Lethal Injections and the Involvement of Medical Personnel
Death penalty, or capital punishment, is the execution of a person as a punishment for a crime.
Throughout history, the death penalty has been a prominent part of society. In ancient Mesopotamia,
the death penalty was seen as retribution for certain crimes, and to this day, is now a common practice
in the United States. Before, when the United States were still colonies, the death penalty had been
carried out by hanging and other various methods but today in the modern age, the Unites States
method of execution in most states is lethal injection (Issitt). Unlike previous methods, such as
electrocution and the firing squad, the lethal injection is virtually painlessly due to certain drugs being
injected into the patient that put the patient to sleep during the process. Due to its medical nature,
medical personnel, such as anesthesiologists are needed to administer the drugs, but is it ethical for
them to participate in the execution of people?
Throughout the process of a lethal injection, there are many drugs inserted into the prisoner. Before
the drugs are administered, the prisoner is first brought into a room, that looks very much like a
hospital room, with all the medical equipment inside. Within the room, there is a cardiac monitor, and
other medical items. The inmate is then strapped to trolley, much like the one below: And hooked up

Apollo Moon Landing Is A Hoax
Since 1969, some people said that Apollo moon landing could be a hoax. Then, tons of people and
scientists leave their comments and personal opinions on this particular topic. Both side s supporter
has different evidence to support what they believe. It is not reasonable to believe it was a hoax
because of the physical evidence that supports it. The following information present that the

The moon is the easiest celestial object to find in the sky (Choi, 2017), most of the sociality often

Earth about 384 thousand km and the surface is solid (NASA, n.d). Nowadays, the population is
dramatically increasing every year; some of the research indicates that Mars could live and solve
population issue. Whereas NASA s scientist had proven that the moon is not a suitable place for
people living because there is lack of water. In the world, most of the people think the moon is a

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational
system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning
from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He
describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to
finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had
created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he
implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians
to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his
students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way
for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a
university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find
spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect
of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where
men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). To put it

A Study On Forensic Forensics
explain that these challenges are the result of frequent updates to the operating system and the
constant attempts to communicate externally. Accordingly, it is imperative that forensic examiners
employ proper evidence handling of mobile devices to prevent contamination and/or data destruction.
For this reason, forensic examiners should employ a mobile forensic process that will provide the
necessary procedures to follow for conducting a forensically sound investigation. As a result, the
process model for mobile forensics will encompass four phases. Ayers et al. (2014) describes these
phases as:
Preservation, which encompasses searching, recognition, documentation, and collection of digital
evidence to ensure admissibility in a court of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reporting, this provides a detailed report describing procedures, observations, and results. For this
reason, it is imperative that the forensic examiner maintains all documentation, notes, images, and
steps taken in a clear and concise manner that can be repeated by another forensic examiner.
Strengths and Weaknesses
There are a few advantages of the forensic methodology regarding mobile forensics. One of the
advantages is the ability to search a digital device that 64% of Americans utilize on a daily basis. As a
result, this media permits forensic examiners to acquire, analyze, and examine texts, emails, phone
calls, images, and internet history. Also, since current smartphones are heavily employed for GPS,
location tracking is also possible. Additionally, there have been advances in forensic tools that are
exclusive for mobile forensics that were developed by companies like Cellebrite and MSAB (XRY
tool).
However, even though there are specialized forensic tools available, they are not completely reliable.
Gogolin (2013) attributes this to the misperception that a mobile forensic tool can be reliably
employed for every device, when in fact it may not support as many devices as advertised.
Additionally, Raghav and Saxena (2009) describe several challenges that examiners may encounter,
for example:
is the mobile device functional or has it been damaged (water or physical damage);
the type of mobile device (smartphone or

A Sphere Poem
In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and
developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and
personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver ,
Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem.
Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity.
The Petrarchan sonnet describes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as
well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the
sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due
to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense
and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards
to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used
within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a
way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer
and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of
misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within

The Ancient Songs, Stories And Art Of Native People
Patty Loew writes the ancient songs, stories and art of Native people are filled with symbolism and
wisdom. In order to understand the cultural meaning of the people, places, and events that shaped their
lives, we must not only read history, but also listen to it (Loew 11). When we listen to history, it can be
recognized by means of how the author acknowledges that written accounts of people and their lives
does in fact offer a valuable source of information, but it diminishes in comparison to what could
actually be learned from those who actually come from that history. Additionally, in order to actually
listen to history it s important to read it but it also means that we must be able to understand it. If we
can understand history, we can use our understandings of history to apply it to history over time.
History is important when listening to the past because of the fact that it gives people an
understanding of how people s cultures have evolved over time. This also allows us to learn from the
past and hopefully prevent making the same mistakes again in the future. Passing stories down is
another important component in order to listen to history due to the fact that oral history has allowed
us to construct the past and get more crucial details. Throughout the book there are several examples
of how the author listened to history in order to write her book. From the first chapter in Indian
Nations of Wisconsin, Loew allows us to listen to history by means of discussing

9. Health care workers are at risk of being exposed to blood borne pathogens through needle stick and
other sharp object injuries. The pathogens of primary concern are the human immunodeficiency virus,
hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus. When a needle stick injury occurs, workers report the incident
to their supervisor. This information is forwarded to county health departments and ultimately to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A CDC researcher used these data to compare
needle stick injuries in community hospitals and tertiary care hospitals. Is this a paired or independent
comparison? Explain your answer.
Paired comparisons may be from one individual before and after samples or from different individuals
who have been matched for some characteristic, e.g. sex, age, height etc. In this question, we are
looking at healthcare workers . The needle stick observations of healthcare workers share a link that
makes them similar to one another and allows the researcher to compare needle stick injuries in
various settings, e.g. all healthcare facilities including in community and tertiary care hospitals.

Essay on The Inevitabilty of the American Revolution
In the early 1620 s, the New England region was first settled by a group of adventurers. These settlers
left England, their native country, by the permission of King Charles the First. At their own expense
they transported themselves to America, and, with great risk and difficulty, settled among other
peoples native to the land. In a very surprising manner, the settlers formed new colonies in the
wilderness and these establishments grew and prospered. Before they had departed England, the
colonists terms of freedom and their relation to the mother country were fully settled; they were to
remain subject to the King and dependent on the kingdom of Great Britain. In return, they were to
receive protection. They would also enjoy the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, the differences between the colonies and Britain became quite distinguishable and
apparent. The ancestors of the early adventurers experienced a different sort of liberty and patriotism
in America than in its parent state. Suddenly though, this sense of self rule came to an abrupt end.
Britain began challenging the autonomous rule that they had indirectly granted the colonies. John
Locke argued that all individuals possessed certain natural rights such as life, liberty, and property
(Greene, 96). It was the responsibility of the government to protect those inalienable rights. When
Britain began imposing sanctions that limited the colonists natural rights, it violated its responsibility
to its dependents. Therefore, Locke s theory provided an intellectual justification for resistance to
British authority. Furthermore, Locke believed that if the government failed in preserving the natural
rights of the individual then rebellion is justified (Greene, 96). Due to the development of powerful
colonial cities, the end of salutary neglect of the colonies by Britain, and the increasing tension
between Britain and the colonies, the American Revolution was inevitable.
What was once considered a territory of rural communities and towns grew to states consisting of
large urban cities. As the society of the states became more complex and integrated, dependence upon
the parent country began to dwindle. As the states matured, their inhabitants were no

Religious Factors Have A Great Deal Of Influence On...
Religious factors have had a great deal of influence on politics in Latin American countries. In most
countries religion has helped to set the value structure of their society by helping to frame what the
citizens should expect out of their lives and what they should expect from the government. Today here
are a variety of religions practiced in Latin America including Catholicism, Protestantism, Voodoo,
Santería, Judaism, as well as indigenous religions. In order to combat religion s influence on Latin
American politics the anti clericalism movement began in colonial times. Anti clericalism is defined as
the opposition to the clergy for its real or alleged influence in both political and social affairs
(Britannica, 2009). It should be noted that although anti clericalism is often associated with anti
Catholicism, anti Christianity, anti deism, irreligiosity, and atheism they are not the same. Butler
(2009) noted that we could hold the Catholic responsible for encouraging the association between anti
clericalism and anti Catholicism to their followers. Secularism is also often associated with anti
clericalism, which rejects all forms of religion in civil affairs. Fallaw (2009) notes that it is hard to tell
where anti clericalism and secularism began and end. According to Bantjes, 2009 anti clericalism s
target was the privileged status of a clerical caste who are viewed as hypocritical and immoral.
Historically religion and politics have been intertwined in government in

Diversity Is Like A Salad
Diversity in America is like a salad. Each piece of the lettuce holds its own identity but the whole
salad is mixed together and held in one bowl. Likewise each person has a distinct difference from one
another, but we are all living in the same country.
1. Why did you decide to take this course?
Being that I am a young African American female I wanted to go to a prestigious college with a
mixture of different cultures. Learning about my culture along with other ones was an important part
of growing up. When I came across this class I really was interested in what it had to offer. Not
knowing what I want to specifically focus on in the psychology field I decided to dig deeper in the
cross culture diversity section by taking this class.
2. Recall the incident in which you first became aware of differences. What was your reaction? Were
you the focus of attention, or were others? How did that affect how you reacted to the situation?
At a young age I started to notice the differences between the races and cultures. Why wasn t my hair
like the other kids at the school? Why was my skin much darker? I was constantly teased and called
names like brownie or blackie. I felt as if I were the ugly duckling. I stuck out like a sore thumb being
that I was one of the few African American children that were in 4th grade. Finally, I decided I didn t
want to be different, I asked my mom to make my hair look like the other little girls in class. In fact it
got to the point where I began

Family With Schizophrenia Analysis
My immediate reaction was that of empathy for the children and their family members. It requires a
lot of strength, determination and resilience to combat an illness such as Schizophrenia. A parent
wants to do everything they can to protect their child and unfortunately these are areas in which they
have little control. The feelings and emotions displayed by the parents and children were gut
wrenching. The documentary clearly depicted the effects of a mental illness on the family system and
its environment. The documentary also highlighted the shortcomings of our behavioral system, along
with the strengths. It was great to see at the end of the video that some of the children had made

The parents had to be aware of the items in their homes to ensure the safety of all family members. In
one example, the parents were even living in two separate homes which caused a schism in the family
relationship. The stress also effected the communication amongst family as there was arguing,
blaming, and accusations. The work and school environments were also explored as one parent had
taken a leave of absence from their job due to the high needs of their daughter. The children s school
environment was also effected as they had to miss several weeks of school due to hospitalizations.
This caused the grades of the children to suffer and also hindered their ability to have normal routines
. Another psychosocial factor explored was that of the development of the children; it highlighted the
parents experiences with the child as an infant and spoke about the low propensity for children under
the age of 18 to be diagnosed with schizophrenia.
The documentary, Living with Schizophrenia, also discussed many of the components of the
psychosocial environment. Furthermore, it added it information about drug use and also highlighted
the experiences of an adult, with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, who is living independently and
attempting to maintain employment and their own household. Many spoke of the difficulties of trying
to sustain full time employment and the role their mental illness played in sometimes hindering their

mental illnesses that breakdowns or disturbs the process of memory, awareness, consciousness,

Exploring Different Types of Video Games Essay
Video games in today s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be
played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There are several other types of
genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like
the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that is well known than a
game they have never even heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it
unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons people sway to
certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people
who want a good game under that category. The top three most ... Show more content on

Unlike action/adventure games, people don t have to run to a particular spot in the game to get that
special item they wanted, instead, they just simply unlock it when he or she has accomplished the
necessary requirements to get the item.
Action/Adventure categories of games are very unique. These types of games generally feature long
term obstacles that must be overcome using a tool or object that is acquired at the beginning of the
game. These types of games are generally a more item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat
game. Games such as Assassins Creed and Ratchet and Clank are perfect examples of this category of
games. Assassins Creed is a bit more puzzle solving and more stealth like than Ratchet and Clank
whereas Ratchet and Clank is more of an action pack filled game with more item gathering and small
obstacles along the way encountering combat in every turn that is made. Another famous
action/adventure game would be Super Mario. The perfect storyline of saving a princess and while
looking for her one would encounter different but strong enemies in each level he or she would go in;
along the way he or she would also benefit from picking up certain items and having to complete
certain obstacles to obtain that item that does later on become very handy when used it at the right
time. Role playing games play similar to action/adventure games but has a much more difficult way of
how the game is completed.

Lymphatic System
Lymph nodes when we are health
The lymphatic system is collected of lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and organs. The functions of this
system include the absorption of excess fluid and its return to the blood stream, absorption of fat (in
the villi of the small intestine) and the immune system function.
The lymphatic system is made up of groups of lymph nodes throughout the body, which are connected
by a network of lymph vessels.
The lymphatic system:
acts as a one way drainage system transporting fluid from body tissues into the blood circulation

Lymph fluid
This is the liquid that flows through the lymph vessels and the lymph nodes. It forms when excess
liquid, from the fluid that surrounds all our body tissues, drains into small lymph vessels.
Lymph vessels are a network of tubes that go all over the body. Some are tiny channels just under the
skin, which can be easily damaged if the skin is broken. Small lymph vessels join together to form
larger lymph vessels, which pass through lymph nodes. The fluid then travels through larger lymph
tubes and drains into the bloodstream.

of the soldiers and had burned into his mind the scaring imagery of someone he knew choking to
death because of the deadly mist that was all around them. Owens poem is very genuine since he had
participated in the bloody savagery that was World War 1. The poem begins with a detailed description
of the lifestyle and poor conditions that the soldiers had to endure on a day to day basis which led
them to age incredibly quickly. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock kneed, coughing like

conditions they were living in were beyond imagination (Owen, p.723). This first quote is where we
get the impression that the speaker was there during the events since he uses we to explain how they
went through the sludge. This imagery helps to display how hard it must have been to move yet

Use Of Strategic Hrm Practices When Comparing The Oecd...
Thorough, relegation has taken to broadly similar working diagrams across the whole government.
Spain produces considerably less use of strategic HRM practices when comparing to the OECD
average. A regular liability diagram for management does not exist and statistics are not available
when it comes to HRM issues that management plans and reports on. Nonetheless, organized
progressive planning is in use, and covers a large range of topics related to long term management
issues. When it comes to recruitment, Spain uses a hiring system that is completely related to a career
base. One has to go through a competitive examination that is managed centrally. A time of practical
work is also part of the examination process. Most positions are done internally and some allowed
external recruitment through the direct application process. Even over the years, no change or
improvement has been made towards the use of external recruitment. Spain does not give any statistics
including policies to better the process of hiring of not skilled population.
Compared to the OECD countries, Spain does not make much use of one s performance in their HR
decision making process. Spain does not offer any statistics on how they evaluate their employees,
where Spain only uses assessment for some employees only. Spain only takes into criteria a couple
things with performance, such as activities undertaken, outputs and the effect of cost at work.
Valuation does not have much value to career improvement,

Compare And Contrast The Political Parties Of Mexico
Mexico consists of three main political parties that build the framework for the Federal Government of
Mexico. These three parties are the Institutional Revoluntionary Party (PRI), The National Action
Party (PAN), and the most recent addition, the Democratic Revolutionary (PRD). There are many
similarites between Mexico s political parties and the United States, the PAN leans to the right of the
political spectrum making it Republican, and PRD swings to the left making for a Democratic party.
The most popular of the three, PRI sits right in the middle of the spectrum and has more of a
independent politcal ideology. The Institutional Revoluntionary Party of Mexico, is by far the most
popular political party and has held the office on and off for five ... Show more content on

PAN was founded by Catholics making the party very pro religion. A few of the main goals of the
PAN party are reducing corporate presence in Mexico, allowing for greater access in education and

Mexico are strong supporters of this politcal party due to the fairness of its elections. PAN allows for
anyone from low to high class to run for political figures in the group, unlike PRI system only
allowing for the powerful wealthly citizens to take part. I believe the presence of PAN is more
significant in the manner that they have a positive outlook and influence on society in regards to
political fairness and the support of religion. If I were a citizen of Mexico I would support the PAN
political party because they simply do not rely on votes via corruption and have a more organized

Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools
Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools
are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for
all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee
restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and
the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories.
When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As
Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on
how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food
is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because
of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in
large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as
escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be
exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick
and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving

The vast majority of my earliest memories consist of cheering on my favorite sports teams along with
my father. The weekends were dedicated to watching games, regardless of the sport or level of the

There are various views of women in ministry. Some of these views are very conservative while others
are very liberal and then there are those that trail the middle of the road. There are three major views,
The most conservative view is the traditional view. The traditionalists believe that male and female
were created differently and should hold different roles. They hold strong to Genesis 3:16, Your desire
will be for your husband, and he will rule over you . Another Scripture that this group uses is
1Timothy 2:12, I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man, she must be quiet
(Calagna, Paragraph 4). The second view that is a little less traditional is the complimentarian view or
male leadership view. This view does believe both male and female were created in the image of God,
but the male is still in authority. The women are permitted to teach other women, children, and
sometimes males if they are under the authority of male leadership (Calagna, Paragraph 5). The third
view is pluralism. Those who believe this view understand that at creation Adam and Eve shared equal
authority and submitted to each other. It was the disobedience in the garden that brought about the
curse in which females had to start submitting to males. When Jesus died on the cross, this curse was
broken. Therefore, ministry does not depend on gender but it depends on one s ability and gifts given
from God. (Calagna, Paragraph 1) The view that a person

Third Wave Feminism
Have you ever seen a slut walk? I mean women walk around naked saying that they are not asking for
attention. Feminism originated in New York, 1848. The first wave of feminism in the United States
began with the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women s rights convention, held at the Wesleyan

North America:) Third Wave Feminism started in the mid 90 s. ( Four Waves of Feminism. ) More
women hate third wave feminism than men. Third Wave Feminism claims that North America is a

The Effects Of Language On Language Influences
One of the greatest influential pieces of research within this area of cognitive psychology originates
from Whorf (1956), whom proposed that language influences or determines the way in which an
individual thinks (Whorfian Hypothesis). Subsequently, Miller and McNeil (1969) distinguished three
versions of this hypothesis, simply ladled strong , weak and very weak . The strong hypothesis
emphasizes the role of language when creating cognition, essentially language determines thought.
The weak states that language influences memory perception. Finally, the very weak hypothesis states
that language influences memory.

One argument, for example, is to investigate how and individuals thinks about time and space, from
this it is suggest that the syntax and morphology of a language can affect how a speaker thinks about
time and space. For example, Whorf suggested that Hopi speakers, think about time and space in a
very different way than English speakers, who have a very linear Newtonian perspective on the topic;
very unlike the Hopi speakers who have a very natural physicist relativistic perspective. The research
here, brings forward the idea that the language we speak does have an influence on the way in which
we think, especially in more abstract topics as time and space Slobin, D. I. (1996).
On the other hand, some psychologist argue that Whorf s study suffers from methodological problems,
which could have an effect on the reliability and validity of the results. Malotki (1983) stated that
when the Hopi speakers talk about time, it may not be as different from the English speakers as Whorf
made it to appear. If there are no actual differences between the languages, then there should be no
intention to posit differences in the thoughts of their speakers, such as Whorf did with the Hopi
people. Pinker (1992) also argued that particular behavioural differences between language groups
have turned out to be artefacts of clumsy translation. Therefore, this piece of research is important in

How Do Tax Laws Affect Young Americans
It sounds morbid, but the truth is there are two things in life that are certain, Death and Tax. In fact,
many before us have died for the right to be heard on many subjects, especially taxation. The old
adage, Taxation without Representation is still prevalent in today s society, especially when dealing
with the young Americans who pay tax and have no voice. Many teens gain employment in high
school and pay tax, even if it is not a permanent job. Young Americans from zero to 18 years olds

A number of laws affect Young Americans, yet they cannot stand up for their rights. Depending on the

The Comfort Of Strangers Essay
The extract from Ian McEwan s novel The Comfort of Strangers tells the story of Robert and his
distant relationship with his family. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him and
his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them. During
their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them play dress
up with their mother s belongings. The extract follows a sequence of events: the first is dress up in the
early afternoon, then, clean up in the late afternoon, followed by dinner. In this extract, Ian McEwan
displays Robert s distant relationship with his sisters, father, and mother by demonstrating the
unreliability of appearances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with their
father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep into my mind,
(McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked deep into [Robert s]
mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father having immense, almost
supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan demonstrates the father s power
by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced represents a timid and quick action
which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene. On the other hand, looked represents a
more authoritative and attention demanding action performed by the father, which causes a shift of
tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all about the sisters, making Robert in some ways
invisible, but now with the father looking directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative
away from Eva and Maria as Robert gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift
from the fun and lighthearted tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious
tone when introducing the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me,
Robert, what have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue
in the extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and
him due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the
question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power. The
father s knowledge of Robert s naïveté that leads Robert to think

Barn Burning Sarty Character Analysis
Blinded by Loyalty
The word loyalty can be broken down into its main term, loyal. To be loyal is to show dedication to an
ideology, individual, or group whom presumably all share the same beliefs. For instance, many people
use either Apple or Android cell phones. It is not that one is better than the other, it is usually just what
a person has grown up using. This can be described as brand loyal. In Barn Burning the family loyalty
theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the dynamic in which the Snopes
family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and a son with underlying values that
differ from those of his family.

Obeying is the basic principle in loyalty, one in which Sarty cannot differ between. For him loyalty is
pleasing his father no matter what the consequence. That is until he can break free from the oppression
of loyalty and finally see that it was loyalty that was blinding his true character. It is not until 20 years
later that Sarty realizes that society wanted only truth, justice (Faulkner 3). It was not society whom
demanded extreme loyalty, it was merely his family and more specifically his power hungry father.
Abner at one point in the story takes it as far as to tell Sarty to stick to his families own blood because
if not then he would have no one else to rely on (Faulkner 3). This shallow threat is yet another attack
on a boy that aims to please his father, but is so caught in the middle of his battle with loyalty and self
that he can be depicted as flying and being removed or suspended from the ground (Kirchdorfer 116).

Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority
Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the
importance of the position increases. ~John Adams
The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is
portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the scene.
How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the society have
on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television shows? Does the
triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are used to resolve?
Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other
by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one
derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea of power does the characters of Scandal act
in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the triggering event in several episodes of Scandal
to determine the type of power and tactic of the main power player.
Literature Review
Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the social
power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt (1969)

Noise Induced Hearing Loss In Firefighters
Noise induced hearing loss is a common and irreversible occupational hazard that affects a large
number of individuals in a variety of professions (Fligor, 2011). In particular, firefighters are routinely
exposed to loud sounds through sirens, air horns, alarms, and tools as well as hazardous chemicals that
can have an ototoxic effect on the auditory system (Kardous Afanuh, 2013). Due the excessive noise
levels most firefighters are exposed to, firefighters view noise exposure and hearing loss as an
inevitable aspect of their career (Kang, Hong, Kim, Yoon, 2015). Consequently, hearing loss is more
prevalent in firefighters than in the general population and presents characteristics that are slightly

As found in by Hong et al. (2013a), firefighters are more likely to use hearing protection if their
administrators encourage HPD use and use them while they work. Therefore, fire departments can
prevent hearing loss by simply encouraging HPD use. In addition to supporting HPD use, fire
departments should employ hearing conservation programs that include education programs on the
risks of hearing loss and the benefits of HPD use as well as mandatory annual hearing screenings
(Hong et al., 2013a; Meyer, 2012). Education programs and hearing screenings can help in the
prevention of noise induced hearing loss in firefighters by identifying hearing losses early and
informing firefighters of ways to avoid hearing loss before it occurs. Furthermore, fire departments
can select gear and equipment that blocks or reduces noise, air conditioned or closed cab fire trucks to
reduce driving with the windows down, and positioning siren on the front of the truck (Hong Samo,
2007). These measures will prevent noise induced hearing loss by reducing the amount of noise
firefighters are exposed to. While fire departments are not required to implement hearing protection
programs, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released four
recommendations for reducing noise induced hearing loss in firefighters. These recommendations

Be Careful Not to Plagairize Essay

you used to gather information, if you can not locate the author, make sure to scroll down and look
everywhere for an author. If you cannot locate an author, make sure that you appropriately cite the
website in your bibliography. Although it may seem obvious, while you use the Internet to gather

An extremely helpful way to avoid mosaic plagiarism is by keeping track of your ideas and the ideas
that you have gathered from your source(s). It is advisable to write down the ideas that belong to you
and the ideas that you have gathered through your research on separate papers labeled differently.
Inadequate paraphrasing is also an easy way to commit plagiarism. In order to paraphrase, you need to
change more than just a couple of words. When you re write it, if it is too close to the original, then
you are plagiarizing. According to the Harvard Guide of Using Sources, while you write your
paraphrased statement, it may help if you put away the source that you used. If you can not express the
meaning you are intending to convey, you can write the authors statement in verbatim and put the
statement in quotation marks and apply the appropriate citation. Next, you will learn about an Uncited
Paraphrase. When you paraphrase another persons sentence or article, that information still belongs to
them even though you paraphrased it. It is not adequate to just source your material, but you also have
to cite the source even if you have paraphrased extremely well because the idea(s) still belong to the
author(s). A rule of thumb is that if you did not come up with the idea(s) yourself, you need to cite the
source because you were not the person who introduced that piece of article which means you need to
use the appropriate citations. Very similar to an Uncited

Mediating Variables Essay
1) Discuss the concepts of mediating and moderating variables. Be sure to clarify how these concepts
are different and how they are similar.
The reason why one variable effects another does not always occur in isolation, there are both
mediating and moderating variables that may influence a causal relationship.
Mediating Variables They are a necessary third variable between two items. That is, without mediating
variable, b , variable a will not produce a specific effect on variable, c. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
Moderating variables A third variable that can either enhance or suppress a relationship. Its existence
does not cause a specific relationship to occur. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
These concepts are similar in the sense that they both have an effect on the relationship but are
different in the sense that mediating variables are necessary in order for the relationship to exist and
moderating variables merely suppress or enhance the quality of an existing relationship; that is, the
relationship exists on its own but is either enhanced or suppressed by the moderating variable. (Crano
Brewer, 2002)

that St. Basil made a great amount of headway for Christianity at a time (his life spanned 330 to 380
A.D.) when it had the latent potential to expand but was also coming under fire from critics. Upon
further research, I learned that St. Basil firmly believed in trinitarian divinity, speaking out against
both the Arians (who did not believe that Jesus was divine) and modalists (who believe in one God
that takes different forms in order in Jesus and the Holy Spirit). Ultimately, St. Basil s goal in
delivering the homilies was to illuminate the word to the grandeur of the creation and to defend
scripture that was going against the heretics of the day, both noble objectives. In this, as we learned in
class, St. Basil was an apologist, attempting to explain his faith to those who were not as learned and

Dehumanization In The Island Of Dr. Moreau
Dehumanization
In the book Civil War Stories the author Ambrose Bierce wrote about fictional war stories based on his
time in the Army. In all of the stories there is usually dehumanization and almost always a plot twist at
the end. In the book The Island of Doctor Moreau there is a mad scientist who lives on an island trying
to create the perfect beast person. Dr. Moreau dehumanizes a lot in this book in many ways such as
performing horrific surgery on animals. Dehumanization is when you treat someone like they re not a
human, making them seem like they re not worthy of human treatment. That is what the book Civil
War Stories and The Island of Dr. Moreau is about and what dehumanization is. One of the stories in
the book Civil War Stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story is told by a third person narrator. In this story a young boy who is deaf and mute wanders
off alone while playing war against fake people. After his fake war was over he encountered an
animal, it was a rabbit. He got so scared he ran, jumped in between two rocks and cried himself to
sleep. After a few hours passed he woke up and could feel the chills of the night. He walked to an
opening in the area and saw a figure that seemed to be a large animal. He thought it might be a dog or
a pig, maybe even a bear, but he could not name it. They were men, they were soldiers. They did
nothing like humans would do. They crawled, they only used their knees and not their arms. Some
layed motionless, they were dead. Nothing at all about them was human. He thought they were like his
father s slaves that he had ridden before making believe they were his horses. He got on top of one of
the men and immediately the man flung him off. The man turned and lacked a jaw. His throat was a
big red gap with flesh hanging down. The man shook his fist at the child finally making him run away.
Then a fire beyond the belt of the woods suffused the whole landscape. On the boys way back he
realized the fire was burning down his own home. A woman lay dead in the house her forehead ripped
off and her brain stood out of her temple. In this story it shows dehumanization when the boy rides the
soldier like he is an animal. That

  • 2. Lethal Injections And The Involvement Of Medical Personnel Shella Samonte Kegley Health Science Technology 4th Period 27 September 2015 Lethal Injections and the Involvement of Medical Personnel Death penalty, or capital punishment, is the execution of a person as a punishment for a crime. Throughout history, the death penalty has been a prominent part of society. In ancient Mesopotamia, the death penalty was seen as retribution for certain crimes, and to this day, is now a common practice in the United States. Before, when the United States were still colonies, the death penalty had been carried out by hanging and other various methods but today in the modern age, the Unites States method of execution in most states is lethal injection (Issitt). Unlike previous methods, such as electrocution and the firing squad, the lethal injection is virtually painlessly due to certain drugs being injected into the patient that put the patient to sleep during the process. • 4. Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). Accordingly, it is imperative that forensic examiners employ proper evidence handling of mobile devices to prevent contamination and/or data destruction. For this reason, forensic examiners should employ a mobile forensic process that will provide the necessary procedures to follow for conducting a forensically sound investigation. As a result, the process model for mobile forensics will encompass four phases. Ayers et al. (2014) describes these phases as: Preservation, which encompasses searching, recognition, documentation, and collection of digital evidence to ensure admissibility in a court of ... For this reason, it is imperative that the forensic examiner maintains all documentation, notes, images, and steps taken in a clear and concise manner that can be repeated by another forensic examiner. Strengths and Weaknesses There are a few advantages of the forensic methodology regarding mobile forensics. One of the advantages is the ability to search a digital device that 64% of Americans utilize on a daily basis. As a result, this media permits forensic examiners to acquire, analyze, and examine texts, emails, phone calls, images, and internet history. Also, since current smartphones are heavily employed for GPS, location tracking is also possible. Additionally, there have been advances in forensic tools that are exclusive for mobile forensics that were developed by companies like Cellebrite and MSAB (XRY tool). However, even though there are specialized forensic tools available, they are not completely reliable. Gogolin (2013) attributes this to the misperception that a mobile forensic tool can be reliably employed for every device, when in fact it may not support as many devices as advertised. Additionally, Raghav and Saxena (2009) describe several challenges that examiners may encounter, for example: is the mobile device functional or has it been damaged (water or physical damage); the type of mobile device (smartphone or ... • 6. A Sphere Poem In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem. Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity. The Petrarchan sonnet describes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Ancient Songs, Stories And Art Of Native People Patty Loew writes the ancient songs, stories and art of Native people are filled with symbolism and wisdom. In order to understand the cultural meaning of the people, places, and events that shaped their lives, we must not only read history, but also listen to it (Loew 11). When we listen to history, it can be recognized by means of how the author acknowledges that written accounts of people and their lives does in fact offer a valuable source of information, but it diminishes in comparison to what could actually be learned from those who actually come from that history. Additionally, in order to actually listen to history it s important to read it but it also means that we must be able to understand it. If we can understand history, we can use our understandings of history to apply it to history over time. History is important when listening to the past because of the fact that it gives people an understanding of how people s cultures have evolved over time. This also allows us to learn from the past and hopefully prevent making the same mistakes again in the future. Passing stories down is another important component in order to listen to history due to the fact that oral history has allowed us to construct the past and get more crucial details. Throughout the book there are several examples of how the author listened to history in order to write her book. These settlers left England, their native country, by the permission of King Charles the First. At their own expense they transported themselves to America, and, with great risk and difficulty, settled among other peoples native to the land. In a very surprising manner, the settlers formed new colonies in the wilderness and these establishments grew and prospered. Before they had departed England, the colonists terms of freedom and their relation to the mother country were fully settled; they were to remain subject to the King and dependent on the kingdom of Great Britain. In return, they were to receive protection. They would also enjoy the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, the differences between the colonies and Britain became quite distinguishable and apparent. The ancestors of the early adventurers experienced a different sort of liberty and patriotism in America than in its parent state. Suddenly though, this sense of self rule came to an abrupt end. Britain began challenging the autonomous rule that they had indirectly granted the colonies. John Locke argued that all individuals possessed certain natural rights such as life, liberty, and property (Greene, 96). It was the responsibility of the government to protect those inalienable rights. When Britain began imposing sanctions that limited the colonists natural rights, it violated its responsibility to its dependents. Therefore, Locke s theory provided an intellectual justification for resistance to British authority. Furthermore, Locke believed that if the government failed in preserving the natural rights of the individual then rebellion is justified (Greene, 96). Due to the development of powerful colonial cities, the end of salutary neglect of the colonies by Britain, and the increasing tension between Britain and the colonies, the American Revolution was inevitable. What was once considered a territory of rural communities and towns grew to states consisting of large urban cities. • 10. Religious Factors Have A Great Deal Of Influence On... Religious factors have had a great deal of influence on politics in Latin American countries. In most countries religion has helped to set the value structure of their society by helping to frame what the citizens should expect out of their lives and what they should expect from the government. Today here are a variety of religions practiced in Latin America including Catholicism, Protestantism, Voodoo, Santería, Judaism, as well as indigenous religions. In order to combat religion s influence on Latin American politics the anti clericalism movement began in colonial times. Anti clericalism is defined as the opposition to the clergy for its real or alleged influence in both political and social affairs (Britannica, 2009). It should be noted that although anti clericalism is often associated with anti Catholicism, anti Christianity, anti deism, irreligiosity, and atheism they are not the same. Butler (2009) noted that we could hold the Catholic responsible for encouraging the association between anti clericalism and anti Catholicism to their followers. Secularism is also often associated with anti clericalism, which rejects all forms of religion in civil affairs. Fallaw (2009) notes that it is hard to tell where anti clericalism and secularism began and end. According to Bantjes, 2009 anti clericalism s target was the privileged status of a clerical caste who are viewed as hypocritical and immoral. • 23. Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories. When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of these views are very conservative while others are very liberal and then there are those that trail the middle of the road. There are three major views, The most conservative view is the traditional view. The traditionalists believe that male and female were created differently and should hold different roles. They hold strong to Genesis 3:16, Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you . Another Scripture that this group uses is 1Timothy 2:12, I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man, she must be quiet (Calagna, Paragraph 4). The second view that is a little less traditional is the complimentarian view or male leadership view. This view does believe both male and female were created in the image of God, but the male is still in authority. The women are permitted to teach other women, children, and sometimes males if they are under the authority of male leadership (Calagna, Paragraph 5). The third view is pluralism. Those who believe this view understand that at creation Adam and Eve shared equal authority and submitted to each other. It was the disobedience in the garden that brought about the curse in which females had to start submitting to males. When Jesus died on the cross, this curse was broken. Therefore, ministry does not depend on gender but it depends on one s ability and gifts given from God. (Calagna, Paragraph 1) The view that a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The research here, brings forward the idea that the language we speak does have an influence on the way in which we think, especially in more abstract topics as time and space Slobin, D. I. (1996). On the other hand, some psychologist argue that Whorf s study suffers from methodological problems, which could have an effect on the reliability and validity of the results. Malotki (1983) stated that when the Hopi speakers talk about time, it may not be as different from the English speakers as Whorf made it to appear. If there are no actual differences between the languages, then there should be no intention to posit differences in the thoughts of their speakers, such as Whorf did with the Hopi people. Robert, the narrator, revisits the time that his parents left him and his sisters home alone in his effort to see if his sisters did, in fact, hate him for telling on them. During their parents absence, Robert followed his sisters into their parents room and watched them play dress up with their mother s belongings. After an afternoon of playing in the empty house, Robert and his sisters sit down for dinner with their father in which Robert notes, I glanced up and he looked straight through my eyes, deep into my mind, (McEwan 21 22). McEwan uses hyperbole in describing how the father looked deep into [Robert s] mind , with the use of intrusive language adding to the notion of the father having immense, almost supernatural, power. Robert even refers to his father as God. McEwan demonstrates the father s power by contrasting the verbs glanced and looked . The verb glanced represents a timid and quick action which gives Robert less authority and power in this scene. On the other hand, looked represents a more authoritative and attention demanding action performed by the father, which causes a shift of tone and focus. The first part of the extract is all about the sisters, making Robert in some ways invisible, but now with the father looking directly at Robert, it brings the attention of the narrative away from Eva and Maria as Robert gets singled out for judgment. This change of focus creates a shift from the fun and lighthearted tone earlier on when the sisters were playing dress up to a more serious tone when introducing the father. After Robert s father looks deep into Robert s mind he asks, Tell me, Robert, what have you been doing this afternoon, (McEwan 23). As one of the three points of dialogue in the extract, the father s question creates a significant amount of distance between the children and him due to the formality in his tone. The father s decision to single out Robert from his sisters in the question serves not only to further isolate Robert but also display the father s wisdom and power. In Barn Burning the family loyalty theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the dynamic in which the Snopes family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and a son with underlying values that differ from those of his family. How much power does the society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Education programs and hearing screenings can help in the prevention of noise induced hearing loss in firefighters by identifying hearing losses early and informing firefighters of ways to avoid hearing loss before it occurs. Furthermore, fire departments can select gear and equipment that blocks or reduces noise, air conditioned or closed cab fire trucks to reduce driving with the windows down, and positioning siren on the front of the truck (Hong Samo, 2007).
