Smallpox Effects On American Soldiers
The Spanish soldiers didn t just bring sharp, damaging weapons, but also pain and suffering in the
form of plague and disease. The most significant of these tragic disease were most definitely
smallpox, measles and the mumps. Smallpox is a crowd disease. Once it strikes a low density
population it soon becomes extinct in that population as it does not have enough hosts. Thus, in
American Indian populations, smallpoxwould strike, the population would plummet, and the
disease would die out. The population would begin to recover and about a generation later,
smallpox would strike again (Navajo, December 2009). All three had devastating effects and took
millions of lives. Records dating back to the 1500 s confirm that there was a terrible smallpox
epidemic immediately after the Spanish had arrived.

The Most Common And Well Known Variation Of Md Is Duchenne
The most common and well known variation of MD is Duchenne MD (DMD). The person in
history who gets the credit for first studying and publishing details on this type of MD is rather
complicated. The disease is actually named after Gulliaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne.
Duchenne first described his details of the disease in the late 1800s. Since the disease is named
after him, it is highly accepted that he was the first; however, there are many that simply do not
agree on the matter. It has now come to light that a doctor from the United Kingdom named
Edward Meryon actually wrote his own account on the disease a decade before Duchenne. This
type accounts for about half of all MD cases 2. Scott Giles stated that the incidence of DMD is...

The enlarged calf muscle may be the next noticeable trait of a DMD patient. The patient s calf s
look like they have muscle, but this enlargement of the calves is actually fat. This is referred to
as pseudo hypertrophy, and patients with pseudo hypertrophy of the calves usually walk on their
toes due to the contracture. Another initial sign of DMD would be waddling gait 1. This form of
walking looks like a duck in a sense. It is where the alternating steps are overstated and the hips are
elevated more than normal.
Usually once atrophy of the hip musculature is noticed, shoulder weakness in noticed also. Those
inflicted with DMD will also have trouble with overhead activates, and keeping the shoulders
flexed for long periods of time. Scott M. Giles actually lists the following muscles affected by
DMD: Shoulder girdle musculature, pectorals, deltoids, rectus abdominals, gluteals, hamstrings,
and calf muscles 6. DMD patients continue to lose control and strength in their lower extremity
musculature and eventually have so much trouble walking they are confined to a wheelchair.
There is not a set age where this occurs, but the average is around twelve years old. The DMD
muscles involved in eating, drinking, and of the eye are not touched by the disease. They usually
do not have any hearing deficits or stroke disorders 1.
There are several additional complications with DMD. It

Sophie Madeleine Germain Research Paper
Sophie Germain was fiercely independent and intelligent throughout her life. She is an inspiration
to women in mathematics due to her courage, determination, and love for the subject. She fought
to make a name for herself in the world of mathematics during a time when it was dominated by
men. Her constant persistence and devotion lead to many great mathematical findings and
discoveries. She was instrumental in the field of number theory. but also contributed a theory of
elasticity and made great contributions to what we know about prime numbers. The life of Sophie
Germain began in Paris, France on April 1st, 1776. This was about a decade before the French
Revolution began and a century after the Scientific Revolution. She was born into the family of
merchants of Marie Madeleine Germain and Ambroise FranТ«ois Germain. She... Show more

She found a sanctuary within her father s library away from the political tensions at the time. In

The Hip-Hop Influence On Kormac s Music
Kormac has been releasing music as a solo artist since 2007 in the form of The Scratch Marchin ,
Good Lord and Showtime EPs worldwide. Following that was the release of his debut LP
Wordplay. The success of Wordplay led to Kormac being booked for larger shows both in
Ireland and abroad. In his own words he wanted a new way to present his sampled based
productions in a live setting. He set about recruiting his own ensemble and Kormac s Big Band
was born. He found a brass section and complemented that core with an ever evolving group
consisting of bass, drums, electronics, guitars, synths, turntables, singers and MCs. Having a
large ensemble of musicians on the stage is great for live performances but how has having
different musicians available to him shaped his sound? Before I worked with a 10 piece band, I
was writing to write and now I know that if I got a 3 or 4 piece brass section there, then that is an

Academic Preparation, Cognitive Performance, And Social...
The IEP team should focus on academic preparation, cognitive performance, and social skills
performance when the transition begins. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA
04) recommends age sixteen, but it often varies across states.
Firstly, they should consider academic preparation and performance. Students with intellectual
disabilities often lag behind in class activities and development of academic skills. Delays are
evident in language skills, math, and reading comprehension (Friend, 2014, Pg. 240). Such
challenges in math and reading often transfer to other courses such as science, which require these
skills.
Cognitive performance is also a necessary area upon which the IEP team should focus. Students

Teachers and parents expect them to adapt to the general education or special education setting for
students without intellectual disabilities. Students with intellectual disabilities require a different
curriculum because they need to learn some survival skills before their transition into adulthood.
Many lessons offered in the general curriculum are not important for such students with intellectual
disabilities, especially because there are other important skills that they need to acquire such as life
skills and behavior development (Friend, 2014, Pg. 259).
Students with intellectual disabilities face the dilemma of high stakes testing. Some students with
intellectual disabilities are expected to complete such tests although the tests are beyond their
capabilities (Friend, 2014, Pg. 259). The expectations set by professionals are too high as students
with intellectual disabilities are expected to learn from the same curriculum as those without
disabilities. In some institutions, they are seen as the cause of school failure to attain federally
mandated goals of sufficient yearly progress. Even though learning the core curriculum is essential
for students with intellectual disabilities, there are several disadvantages of setting the standards
too high.
Students with intellectual disabilities face the challenge of self determination during their transition
from childhood to adulthood. There is a difficulty of understanding the concept of self

Spirit Possession
This week I have been struggling with centering my paper topic. I want to explore the use of
psychedelics in spirit possessions. More specifically, I want to explore the validity of drug
induced shamanistic experiences like in the case of Amazonian Shamans and their use of
Ayahuasca. But I keep running into the problem of shifting my focus into something that doesn t
feel, at least to me, like topics of spirit possession. This is why I have devoted most of my
research into attempting to define the type of spirit possession I am going to be talking about. I
ran across an article by Emma Cohen that tackles this very task, she states that there are two main
forms of possession. One is pathogenic which results from the operation possession concepts result
from the operation of cognitive tools that deal with the representation of contamination (both
positive and negative); the presence of the spirit entity is typically (but not always) manifested in
the form of illness. The other is executive, this type of possession mobilizes cognitive tools that
deal with the world of intentional agents; the spirit entity is typically represented as taking over the
host s executive control, or replacing the host s mind (or intentional agency), thus assuming control
of bodily behaviors. For the purposes of the paper, I think that I am going to be using both models.

ceremonially induced, that recognizes the parasitic spirits and cures or expels them from the

Puerta Del Sol Traditions
Who would ve thought that just by eating grapes at Christmas eve would bring good luck for a
whole year. Here at Colombia such as in many Hispano American countries and Spain, exists the
tradition to eat 12 grapes at the end of the last day of the year, Christmas eve. The ancient
tradition comes back from Spain, where at new year s eve, in Puerta del Sol at Madrid, the
ancient clock at the mail house will chime twelve times, then people will eat 12 grapes, one for
every chime of the bell, also symbolizing good luck for 12 months of the year. The tradition was
born when a group of Madrilian citizens sat down in front of the clock as it chimed while eating
grapes, to mock the ancient tradition of the noble class and important families of saying

A Concrete Human Existence, And The Conditions Of Such...

Thematic Project Outline
Introduction
Thesis.
Existentialists focus on the question that is a concrete human existence, and the conditions of such
existence; they do not dwell on a hypothesis for human essence, instead they stress that this
essence is determined by an individual s own life choices. Although humans live in the world, a
distance is created in order to add meaning to the disinterested world; however, this meaning is
fragile and can be disturbed by tragedy or insight. When this disturbance occurs, and human s
precarious lives crumble, the true nature of the world is revealed; a nature that shows little
importance for humans; this way of thinking created the, post WWII era, worldwide explosion of
ambiguous literature, and the sensory perception of art and music; heavily influenced by the idea of
human worthlessness.
Literature Existentialism, though it had been present since the 19th century, came of age in the mid
20th Century. This was largely through the scholarly and fictional works of the French
existentialists, Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir. The heavily influenced post
WWII movement spurred up a whole new way of thinking. Sartre made the movement popular in
that he defined Existentialism and wrote many works solely centered on his views.
Simone de Beauvoir An important existentialist who spent much of her life alongside Sartre, wrote
about feminism, and existential ethics

A tropical wave emerged into the Atlantic from the west coast of Africa on September 14. After
detaching from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) on September 18,[7] the wave quickly
developed into a tropical depression about 575 mi (925 km) west of the Cabo Verde Islands.[3]
Moving northwestward, the depression intensified according to ships and satellite imagery,[7]
becoming Tropical Storm Faye on September 19.[3] The cyclone then moved westward and was
unable to intensify further due to increasing wind shear,[7] before weakening to a tropical

Balanced Scorecard Essay
Balanced Scorecard in reality
Balanced scorecard is a measurement system that takes into financial as well as non financial
information into account. This system strongly affects the behaviour of managers and employees
by aligning their goals to the company s vision. Kaplan and Norton argues in The Balanced
Scorecard Measures That Drives Performance, 1992 that no single measure can provide a clear
performance target or focus attention on critical areas, and by observing and working with many
companies they found that senior executives do not rely on one set of measures.
As mentioned above, the balanced scorecard consists of four perspectives and this measures link
together to create a tool for senior managers to assess the overall performance of the company. In
other words, the balanced scorecard contains outcome measures and the performance derivers of
outcome, linked together in cause and effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strategy should be communicated to lower employees, so they have a clear target for actions,
decisions and improvement activities. Therefore information system plays an important role. With
a good information system, unfavourable results can be tracked to the person or activity
responsible. Hewlett Packard uses a metric called breakeven time (BET) to measure the
effectiveness of its product development cycle. ( Klapan and Norton, 1992 )
If companies can improve their operations and satisfy customers, they create a platform to penetrate
new markets or increase their existing market share. Other companies would prefer to
manufacturing new products rather than improving the manufacturing of existing products, it is
important to achieve stability in the manufacturing of new products. If the company chooses to
improve the manufacturing of the existing product, goals must be set for specific

Essay On Centralized Law Enforcement
Over the years, the debate on whether the Department of Law Enforcement in U.S. should be
centralized or not continues to be a contentious issue. Both centralized and decentralized forms of
administration have their own advantages as well as disadvantages. The U.S. currently has a
decentralized police administration structure, which has received equal measure of admiration as
well as criticism. As a member of Congress, my staff assistant s proposal to nationalize law
enforcementthroughout the United States brings with it meaningful insights which need to be
analyzed before coming up with an informed conclusion. This essay will therefore analyze some of
the benefits of such a proposal, as well as the shortcomings, not forgetting how different groups will
perceive it.

This will lead to accountability problems whereby the police can misuse the public funds. The
public need to have their say on police operations in order to promote efficiency. (Gaines Worrall,

corruption activities, abuse of power and indiscipline as the public is not holding them accountable
as much as it should be. Another crucial problem will be exploitation and manipulation from the
central government. Since a centralized police department will be receiving funds and other
resources from the national government, the political leaders at the top of the federal government
might start using their influence and power to manipulate police operations.

Dylan Thomas And The Poetry Of The 1940s
Further David Perkins asserts that: Dylan Thomas was too relentlessly melodious and rhetorical,
making the fifties poets all the more conscious of the morality of plainness. Moreover they could
not recognize their world in the clichГ©s of Thomas Fern Hill or Under Milk Wood , and thus
they were motivated all the more toward an honest realism. That Thomas archetypal symbols
seemed vague and obscure to the point of self indulgence impelled them with stronger conviction
toward lucid, rational discourse (Perkins 423).
In Purity of Diction in English Verse, Davie says of the Movement that: it represented an originally
passionate rejection, by one generation of British poets of all the values of Bohemia (Davie, Purity

Enright s introduction to the Poet s of the 1950s criticized Thomas s poetry on the familiar
ground that it lacked thought: Perhaps the kind of admiration which Thomas received
encouraged him to leave thinking to the New Verse Poets; but poetry is like a human body in
needing bones as well as flesh and blood (Enright, Poet of the 1950s). A similar idea can be
found in Davie s Articulate Energy published in 1955, which looks back to a period in English
history, the eighteenth century , where strong sense was as common as terms as strong feelings .
Davie sees Romantic and Modernist practice as having destroyed meaning and argument into
poetry by over emphasizing the importance of images. He is able to admit that in some poetry
notably that of Ezra Pound such practice has had beneficial effects; but one poet whose pursuit of
images he will not tolerate is Dylan Thomas: a sonnet by Dylan Thomas is unacceptable even on
Hulme s terms. When concrete images are crowded upon each other, they lose their concreteness.

Legal Rights Of The United Nations Essay
The most expected result of lack of ability to exercise one s legal rights would mean that one has
the rights but lacks the power to exercise them. Practically granting of rights is the law s
recognition of the validity of a person s choices. Legal rights give authority for people to act
within the framework of the legal system and makes a human being a subject of the law. Article
3 of the ICCPR mandates member states to promote the realization of the right to self
determination and to respect that right in conformity with the provisions of the Charter of the
United Nations. In Kenya the age of majority is 18 years and most people believe that upon
attaining the age of majority they will be able to make their own decisions which will be
respected. For most people adulthood automatically means the right to become a self determining
individual but this has not been so for women, who have been treated in the past as objects to be
managed as opposed to rightsholders with their own interests and desires.
The previous marriage laws that were in 2014 merged into one document which is the Marriage
Act 2014 had unfair provisions which tended to lean more towards the men. Under the Hindu
Marriage and Divorce Act, the notion of women not being free to make their own decisions comes
out where it is stated under section 3 of the Act that a marriage may be solemnized if the following
conditions are fulfilled;

Essay on 1 Kings
1 Kings
Introduction In 1 Kings 18 19 we are introduced to one of the most magical men in the Bible, and
to one of the greatest miracles. Along with Moses and Jesus, Elijah is among the great miracle
workers of the world. Elijah used miracles to bring Israel up out of shambles, if just for a moment.
He also showed extreme faith and perseverance in the face of great odds. But the true character of
Elijah lies in his name, which literally means, Yahweh is my God (Anderson 246).
Prelude to The Contest
In order to understand chapters 18 and 19 of 1 Kings, one must get some background on its main
character. In 1 Kings 17, we are first introduced to Elijah. At the time, Israel is at one of its lowest
points. King Ahab and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elijah tells Obadiah to go to Ahab and tell him that he wants to meet with him. When the meeting
occurs, Ahab refers to Elijah as the troubler of Israel (1 Kings 18:17). Elijah responds by saying
that Israel has brought the trouble upon themselves by worshiping Baal. This is the first statement
of the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his
people and the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19).
It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament.
One man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of
faith. He declares that the worshipers of Baal will cut a bull into pieces and set it upon the altar
of Baal. As the lone representative of Yahweh, Elijah will then cut up a bull and set it upon the
altar of Yahweh. The prophets are then to call upon Baal to strike the altar with fire. Elijah will
then call upon Yahweh to strike his altar with fire. The true god could then be determined.
The prophets do as instructed and call upon Baal to ignite their altar. They call out and dance, but
nothing happened. All the while Elijah is taunting them, asking them why Baal is not responding.
The failure of Baal to react is made even more dramatic when one recognizes the fact that Baal is
the supposed god of weather,

The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism

The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism
Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the
proof; and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And
let him continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have
reached the uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given
which is the happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464).
Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more
prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the
cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help
the children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do
we spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep
inside we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical
egoism at first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical
egoism is the moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness.
Ethical egoism is the ethical view that one ought to do whatever and only whatever is in one s own
maximum interest, benefit, advantage, or

A Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130
Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130
Shakespeare examines love in two different ways in Sonnets 116 and 130. In the first, love is
treated in its most ideal form as an uncompromising force (indeed, as the greatest force in the
universe); in the latter sonnet, Shakespeare treats love from a more practical aspect: it is viewed
simply and realistically without ornament. Yet both sonnets are justifiable in and of themselves, for
neither misrepresents love or speaks of it slightingly. Indeed, Shakespeare illustrates two qualities of
love in the two sonnets: its potential and its objectivity. This paper will compare and contrast the
two sonnets by Shakespeare and show how they represent two different attitudes to love. In Sonnet
116, Shakespeare defines love by way of truth. He begins not by launching into a discourse on
the nature of love but on the nature of marriage, which, he implies, is built on commitment and
truth: Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments. If two people are honest
and truthful then they will have understood just what is expected of them in their marriage vows
therefore, the poet sees no reason to object. Love follows on truth, he seems to say. In fact, this
must be so for the same principle applies in Sonnet 130. After an entire sonnet of lines in which
the poet denigrates his mistress, he still finally refers to her as is his love despite it all, simply
because she is unique in and of herself and the other half of

Why is it important for children to read at home?
Learning to read is a complex task, and each child learns at his/her own pace. Even though children
truly learn to read at school, it does not diminish the importance of reading at home. Parents spend
so much time choosing all the right schools and making sure teachers are exceeding expectations.
When as parents you have the power to boost your child s learning by simply making books an

They may know a word one day but not the next. They may read a word correctly on one page but
then struggle with it on the next page, having to stop and sound it out again. When you listen to a
beginner reader, you hear short, choppy words with little attention to punctuation, this leads to the
reader not being able to full understand and comprehend what they are reading, and instead just
simply reading out each word as its own, instead of part of a sentence. Although teachers are able to
help teach students in the classroom, a teacher is dealing with more than one student and your child
may not get the attention they need, making at home reading all the more important for your child.

wider set of values that we call as the open source way.
Open source tasks, products, or enterprises clench and observe rules of open exchange, cooperative
involvement, fast modeling, opacity, social organization, and community oriented process.
Irrespective of whether a program is open source or not is not the big deal to developers, it finally
concerns for users, too. In short, open source software permits, give users freedoms they would not
differently have.
Idea of Open Source
Suppose that, a program is open source and its source code is freely accessible to its users. Then, its
users and anyone other can have the power to yield this source code, change it as per their
requirement, and dispense their own variants of the program. People also have the power to
dispense as many transcripts of the fresh program as they want. Anyone can utilize the program for
any intent; there are no license fees or different limitations of the software. Image 1 Caption: Open

Paleolithic Kinship
Around 10,000 to 2.5 million years ago, the first period of the Stone Age, the Paleolithic Era,
existed and was known for the nomadic lifestyle that its people lived. The people of the Paleolithic
Era were hunter gatherers who moved constantly in search of animals to hunt and plants to gather.
The Paleolithic people preferred to live off of the resources that existed in abundance in a given
region, rather than producing resources for themselves. For this reason, the Paleolithicpeople were
organized into small kinship societies. Small kinship societies enabled the Paleolithic people to
live in groups and survive from available resources because larger kinship societies require more
resources and living space, which was not ideal. Since the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Due to their nomadic lifestyle, the Paleolithic people lived in huts, simple tent structures, or in

materials used range from wood and animal skins to bone and even stone. The Paleolithic people
used these materials to build simple tools like clubs and scrapers, and even weapons like small
axes, flints, and simple arrowheads, which helped them, live day after day. Aside from their
weapons and tools, the people of the Paleolithic Era made a great discovery when they learned to

According to Berk Meyer (2016) make believe play is an example of the development of
representation in early childhood (p.312). Play detaches from the real life conditions associated
with it: During this observation, when the children were playing in the building area, they knew
that the blocks were an object but that it could represent something else, such as they were
building castles and towers. According to Berk Meyer (2016) by age 3, children can understand
that an object may take on one fictional identity in one pretend game and another fictional
identity in a different pretend game (p.312). Another group of children was playing in the toy
cars area, they were pretending that they were the ones driving the car in a race. This is an
example of sociodramatic play. According to Berk Meyer (2016), a sociodramatic play is the
make believe play with others that is under way by the end of the second year and that increases
rapidly in complexity during early childhood (p.312). Yet, I noticed that during this play time
some children struggle more than others, it was hard for some children to have an understanding
of roles in the game due to the fact that they couldn t follow the plot or where impatient to wait for
their turn. This is a skill that children master at the end of preschool years. Interestingly, despite
that many children were playing in groups, there was this one child, a boy with dark hair

What Is Tacit Knowledge Approach
The tacit knowledge approach highlights understanding the sorts of knowledge that individuals in
an organization have, moving people to transfer knowledge within an organization and managing
key individuals as knowledge creators and carriers. One of the significant capabilities of
competition is managing perceived intangible assets such as knowledgein organization. Besides
managing this intangible asset of enterprises, another vital issue is considered as diffusion of
knowledge within the organization. Knowledge resources can be divided into at least two different
components depending on the possibility of structuring and coding the knowledge. The possibility
to code and the externalization of knowledge is of essential importance to the diffusion of it
according to some researchers, while other again considers the codifying unnecessary or of minor
importance. Structured knowledge is often diffused by different systems for storing and sharing
knowledge and today there has been much scientific interest in the technology of these systems.
The most important feature of the tacit knowledgeapproach is the fundamental principle that
knowledge is basically individual in nature and is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking English 1302 With Texas Tech University Essay
Taking English 1302 with Texas Tech University has been a highly rewarding experience. This
class focuses on literature reviews and researched arguments, but when I signed up for this class I
did not know the difference between the two. Now I know that literature reviews use sources to
inform the reader about current studies on a topic, while researched arguments use sources to
support the author s claim and persuade the reader. During this class I have learned how to write a
literature review/ researched argument as well as many mechanics related to general writing. In
English 1302, I was instructed on how to write a literature review and a researched argument.
While I found literature reviews to be easier than researched arguments, I still learned how to
synthesize sources and their respective information. I realized that I did not need to put in much of
my own commentary compared to an argumentative paper. Initially, I could not see how subtopics
and themes could connect several pieces of writing just as much as the subject of the paper could.
I also used to focus on the authors of sources rather than the connected information written by the
authors, but now I focus on the latter. Taking this course made me realize that I had never used
common ground while writing an argument, but it is very critical for persuasion. For example, in
my researched argument I wrote: ... you, as a consumer, have been affected by robotics in more
ways than you know; robots aid humans in many

The Hollow Men Stylistics
1.Introduction This paper deals with a stylistic analysis of Eliot s poem The Hollow Men . What
are the stylistic featuresexploited by Eliot to make his poem more expressive is the main problem
that this study tries to investigate. It aims to explore ways in which language use has been
integrated in the selected poems. It is also aimed at analyzing some of the distinctive features that
give the selected poem their identity. To fulfill the aim of the study, it hypothesizes that Eliot
exploits certain linguistic deviations as an essential way to make his poem more expressive. So as
to examine the proposed hypothesis, certain representative examples have been chosen from the

We normally study style because we want to explain something, and in general, literary stylistics
has the goal of explaining the relation between language and artistic function (Leech and Short,

There were many advantages of the North and South in the Civil war. The advantages for the

Merton Model Of Social Deviance
Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that
hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits
that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or
unreasoned conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a
form of retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance,
and sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how
society structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for
which we ought to struggle. The second aspect is institutional... Show more content on

Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to
suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they
putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as

The Obstructions Of The Voting Rights Movement In The...
The United States was born with democratic ideals, and the will to have an impartial government.
But throughout the existence of this nation, there have been several stutters to the goal. Many of
the obstructions to the democratic ideals come in the form of voter suppression, discrimination,
amongst others, which, throughout American history have had a large impact in the way our
government works today. Yet, many believe that events that happened in the past can t repeat
themselves today, although that is far away from the truth. To start with the current problems that
government has had in expressing true democratic values, one must look no farther away than
North Carolina, a perfect example of gerrymandering. This year, the Supreme Court ruled that two
districts, district 1, and district 12, used an exceeding amount of racial bias, effectively violating the
votingrights act of 1965. The problem with gerrymandering is that it s used to skew elections, by
redrawing districts using racially, or partisan information, a party might set up elections so that the
ruling stays in power for an indefinite amount of time, thus stopping other groups to be represented
properly, such as minorities
A problem that compromises our democratic values is voter suppression, although several pieces of

The Food And Drug Administration
In 2000, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a health claim which states that consuming
foods containing plant sterol and stanol esters along with other low cholesterol and saturated fat
foods can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease (Jones, Vanstone, Raeini Sarjaz, St Onge,
2003). Today, many functional foods in the form of margarines, spread, yogurt, and others, have
been enriched with phytosterols and advocated as being able to reduce the risk of coronary heart
disease. Phytosterols have been known for its cholesterollowering effect by blocking absorption of
cholesterol in the intestines. However, there are controversies surrounding the efficacy of
phytosetrol that are enriched in foods in reducing cholesterol levels. Many studies have also
demonstrated the efficacy of phytosterol enriched foods. VГЎsquez Trespalacios and Romero
Palacio (2014) and Amundsen, Ose, Nenseter, and Ntanios (2002) have demonstrated the efficacy
of phytosterol enriched foods in reducing total and LDL cholesterol levels. However, there are
also many studies that show otherwise. For example, Jones et al. (2003) and Weingärtner et al.
(2016) have shown that phytosterol supplemented foods did not have any effect on total and LDL
cholesterol levels. The debate regarding the efficacy of phytosterol in functional foods is crucial as
phytosterol enriched foods can potentially be a solution to a continuous increase in population
suffering from cardiovascular diseases. The

The most significant of these tragic disease were most definitely smallpox, measles and the mumps. Smallpox is a crowd disease. The person in history who gets the credit for first studying and publishing details on this type of MD is rather complicated. The disease is actually named after Gulliaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne. Duchenne first described his details of the disease in the late 1800s. Since the disease is named after him, it is highly accepted that he was the first; however, there are many that simply do not agree on the matter. It has now come to light that a doctor from the United Kingdom named Edward Meryon actually wrote his own account on the disease a decade before Duchenne. This type accounts for about half of all MD cases 2. Scott Giles stated that the incidence of DMD is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The enlarged calf muscle may be the next noticeable trait of a DMD patient. The patient s calf s look like they have muscle, but this enlargement of the calves is actually fat. This is referred to as pseudo hypertrophy, and patients with pseudo hypertrophy of the calves usually walk on their toes due to the contracture. Another initial sign of DMD would be waddling gait 1. This form of walking looks like a duck in a sense. It is where the alternating steps are overstated and the hips are elevated more than normal. Usually once atrophy of the hip musculature is noticed, shoulder weakness in noticed also. Those inflicted with DMD will also have trouble with overhead activates, and keeping the shoulders flexed for long periods of time. Scott M. Giles actually lists the following muscles affected by DMD: Shoulder girdle musculature, pectorals, deltoids, rectus abdominals, gluteals, hamstrings, and calf muscles 6. DMD patients continue to lose control and strength in their lower extremity musculature and eventually have so much trouble walking they are confined to a wheelchair. There is not a set age where this occurs, but the average is around twelve years old. The DMD muscles involved in eating, drinking, and of the eye are not touched by the disease. More specifically, I want to explore the validity of drug induced shamanistic experiences like in the case of Amazonian Shamans and their use of Ayahuasca. But I keep running into the problem of shifting my focus into something that doesn t feel, at least to me, like topics of spirit possession. This is why I have devoted most of my research into attempting to define the type of spirit possession I am going to be talking about. I ran across an article by Emma Cohen that tackles this very task, she states that there are two main forms of possession. One is pathogenic which results from the operation possession concepts result from the operation of cognitive tools that deal with the representation of contamination (both positive and negative); the presence of the spirit entity is typically (but not always) manifested in the form of illness. The other is executive, this type of possession mobilizes cognitive tools that deal with the world of intentional agents; the spirit entity is typically represented as taking over the host s executive control, or replacing the host s mind (or intentional agency), thus assuming control of bodily behaviors. For the purposes of the paper, I think that I am going to be using both models. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. A Concrete Human Existence, And The Conditions Of Such... Juan Linares Mr. Maust English IV AP 26 September 2015 Thematic Project Outline Introduction Thesis. Existentialists focus on the question that is a concrete human existence, and the conditions of such existence; they do not dwell on a hypothesis for human essence, instead they stress that this essence is determined by an individual s own life choices. Although humans live in the world, a distance is created in order to add meaning to the disinterested world; however, this meaning is fragile and can be disturbed by tragedy or insight. When this disturbance occurs, and human s precarious lives crumble, the true nature of the world is revealed; a nature that shows little importance for humans; this way of thinking created the, post WWII era, worldwide explosion of ambiguous literature, and the sensory perception of art and music; heavily influenced by the idea of human worthlessness. Literature Existentialism, though it had been present since the 19th century, came of age in the mid 20th Century. This was largely through the scholarly and fictional works of the French existentialists, Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir. The heavily influenced post WWII movement spurred up a whole new way of thinking. Sartre made the movement popular in that he defined Existentialism and wrote many works solely centered on his views. Dylan Thomas And The Poetry Of The 1940s Further David Perkins asserts that: Dylan Thomas was too relentlessly melodious and rhetorical, making the fifties poets all the more conscious of the morality of plainness. Moreover they could not recognize their world in the clichГ©s of Thomas Fern Hill or Under Milk Wood , and thus they were motivated all the more toward an honest realism. That Thomas archetypal symbols seemed vague and obscure to the point of self indulgence impelled them with stronger conviction toward lucid, rational discourse (Perkins 423). A similar idea can be found in Davie s Articulate Energy published in 1955, which looks back to a period in English history, the eighteenth century , where strong sense was as common as terms as strong feelings . Davie sees Romantic and Modernist practice as having destroyed meaning and argument into poetry by over emphasizing the importance of images. He is able to admit that in some poetry notably that of Ezra Pound such practice has had beneficial effects; but one poet whose pursuit of images he will not tolerate is Dylan Thomas: a sonnet by Dylan Thomas is unacceptable even on Hulme s terms. This is the first statement of the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his people and the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19). It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament. One man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of faith. The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism Timothy Walter PHI101 5:45PM Research Paper The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the proof; and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And let him continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have reached the uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given which is the happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464). Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help the children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do we spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep inside we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical egoism at first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical egoism is the moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness. • 19. A Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130 Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130 Shakespeare examines love in two different ways in Sonnets 116 and 130. In the first, love is treated in its most ideal form as an uncompromising force (indeed, as the greatest force in the universe); in the latter sonnet, Shakespeare treats love from a more practical aspect: it is viewed simply and realistically without ornament. Yet both sonnets are justifiable in and of themselves, for neither misrepresents love or speaks of it slightingly. Indeed, Shakespeare illustrates two qualities of love in the two sonnets: its potential and its objectivity. This paper will compare and contrast the two sonnets by Shakespeare and show how they represent two different attitudes to love. In Sonnet 116, Shakespeare defines love by way of truth. He begins not by launching into a discourse on the nature of love but on the nature of marriage, which, he implies, is built on commitment and truth: Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments. If two people are honest and truthful then they will have understood just what is expected of them in their marriage vows therefore, the poet sees no reason to object. Love follows on truth, he seems to say. In fact, this must be so for the same principle applies in Sonnet 130. After an entire sonnet of lines in which the poet denigrates his mistress, he still finally refers to her as is his love despite it all, simply because she is unique in and of herself and the other half of ... Play detaches from the real life conditions associated with it: During this observation, when the children were playing in the building area, they knew that the blocks were an object but that it could represent something else, such as they were building castles and towers. According to Berk Meyer (2016) by age 3, children can understand that an object may take on one fictional identity in one pretend game and another fictional identity in a different pretend game (p.312). Another group of children was playing in the toy cars area, they were pretending that they were the ones driving the car in a race. This is an example of sociodramatic play. According to Berk Meyer (2016), a sociodramatic play is the make believe play with others that is under way by the end of the second year and that increases rapidly in complexity during early childhood (p.312). Yet, I noticed that during this play time some children struggle more than others, it was hard for some children to have an understanding of roles in the game due to the fact that they couldn t follow the plot or where impatient to wait for their turn. What Is Tacit Knowledge Approach The tacit knowledge approach highlights understanding the sorts of knowledge that individuals in an organization have, moving people to transfer knowledge within an organization and managing key individuals as knowledge creators and carriers. One of the significant capabilities of competition is managing perceived intangible assets such as knowledgein organization. Besides managing this intangible asset of enterprises, another vital issue is considered as diffusion of knowledge within the organization. Knowledge resources can be divided into at least two different components depending on the possibility of structuring and coding the knowledge. The possibility to code and the externalization of knowledge is of essential importance to the diffusion of it according to some researchers, while other again considers the codifying unnecessary or of minor importance. Structured knowledge is often diffused by different systems for storing and sharing knowledge and today there has been much scientific interest in the technology of these systems. This class focuses on literature reviews and researched arguments, but when I signed up for this class I did not know the difference between the two. Now I know that literature reviews use sources to inform the reader about current studies on a topic, while researched arguments use sources to support the author s claim and persuade the reader. During this class I have learned how to write a literature review/ researched argument as well as many mechanics related to general writing. In English 1302, I was instructed on how to write a literature review and a researched argument. While I found literature reviews to be easier than researched arguments, I still learned how to synthesize sources and their respective information. I realized that I did not need to put in much of my own commentary compared to an argumentative paper. Initially, I could not see how subtopics and themes could connect several pieces of writing just as much as the subject of the paper could. I also used to focus on the authors of sources rather than the connected information written by the authors, but now I focus on the latter. Taking this course made me realize that I had never used common ground while writing an argument, but it is very critical for persuasion. For example, in my researched argument I wrote: ... you, as a consumer, have been affected by robotics in more ways than you know; robots aid humans in many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But throughout the existence of this nation, there have been several stutters to the goal. Many of the obstructions to the democratic ideals come in the form of voter suppression, discrimination, amongst others, which, throughout American history have had a large impact in the way our government works today. Yet, many believe that events that happened in the past can t repeat themselves today, although that is far away from the truth. To start with the current problems that government has had in expressing true democratic values, one must look no farther away than North Carolina, a perfect example of gerrymandering. This year, the Supreme Court ruled that two districts, district 1, and district 12, used an exceeding amount of racial bias, effectively violating the votingrights act of 1965. The problem with gerrymandering is that it s used to skew elections, by redrawing districts using racially, or partisan information, a party might set up elections so that the ruling stays in power for an indefinite amount of time, thus stopping other groups to be represented properly, such as minorities A problem that compromises our democratic values is voter suppression, although several pieces of legislation have tried to take down voter suppression, particularly Jim Crow discrimination that reigned in the south until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 passed.
