Female Italian Artists of the Baroque Period
Female Italian Artists of the Baroque Period Many male artists during the Baroque Period were
tremendously successful having received many commissions from a multitude of rich patrons.
Their equally talented female counterparts were not as accepted in the male dominated society.
Although equally talented, the patriarchal mentality of the times ensured a difficult road for some
in the artistic world. The more prominent female artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia
Fontana and Orsola Maddalena Caccia had the advantage of having fathers who were prodigious
artists themselves and provided the training required for them to flourish as great virtuosos in their
own right. I will show and explain some of their known works.
Artemisia Gentileschi was a very talented albeit restricted female artist during the Italian Baroque
period. She was born in Rome on July 8, 1593, to Orazio Gentileschi and Prudentia Montoni. Her
father, Orazio, was a great and highly sought after artist for his work in frescoes, altarpieces and
portraits. A most notable patron was Pope Paul V. Orazio was surprised at his daughter s talent
for painting and ensured that he gave her the proper training. She has also had the distinct
advantage of being surrounded by a variety of local and foreign artists. As young as twelve years
old, Artemisia was able to expertly grind and mix her father s pigments and assist him in small
commissions. Her first known dated painting was Susanna and the Elders, completed

Racism In Australia
Australia is a nation of immigrants. It has become a vibrant diverse place where tolerance
equality are both accepted expected by its people as part of their way of life. It is also considered as
one of the world s most culturally diverse countries. In fact, it was the egalitarian streak in Australia
s national character that facilitated the development of contemporary multiculturalism of Australia.
Immigration Nation showed how Australia transformed from a country which aims to exclude all
non European races, to one of the most multicultural places on earth. Australia made massive
changes in terms of policies acceptance towards migrants over the years.

long journey from a society based on racial prejudice intolerance to a contemporary multicultural
Australia embracing diversity. Unquestionably, multiculturalism is the key factor in defining the
Australian identity. Hence, it is important that we strive to improve ensure that multiculturalism in

The Ways We Lie, By Ericsson
Most of the people lies and doublespeak when they are desperate to escape from situations that
they can t say the truth. For example, a dad can t say that his wife died to his children because
they can be shocked in a young age. In this book, The Ways We Lie , Ericsson talks about the
types of lies and how they are used. The other book, The World of Doublespeak, Lutz shows the
types of double speaking and the examples. A lieis a false statement or action especially made with
the intent to deceive and doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t.
Both of them are saying the false statement to someone but doublespeak is making the people to be
understood in several ways. Whereas, lying is just saying a false statement, doublespeak is half

For example The white lie assumes that the truth will cause more damage than a simple, harmless
untruth. (Ericsson 121). By saying a white lie, it can relieve the anxiety of a person who actually
has a big damage in his/her body. Lying can cause a negative effect because people who
misunderstood might occur problems which might be risky. However, lying can be very
effective. In life, there are certain stations where you just have to lie. In society, just by people
changing their clothings can make other people think differently. When I put on a suit to go to

Doak realizes there are many people with muscle diseases who are far worse off than she. But,
she says, In my mind, I used to be able to do things that now I can t. It s still bothersome, Sandy
Doak, victim of Central Core Disease. Central Core Disease, or CCD, affects one the body s most
major systems muscular, in a way that everyday people cannot imagine from infancy to adults.
Patients with Central Core Disease go through more than muscle weakness but also more
complications that come along with this disease. Central Core Disease affects the muscle system,
and although it is typically not progressive, it can also cause poor fetal movement, scoliosis, hip
dislocation and joint contractures. The muscle system is very important to... Show more content on

There are main ways of diagnosing this disease physically; early onset and later onset. In early
onset, doctors look for hypotonia poor fetal movement, respiratory insufficiency; delayed motor
milestones, scoliosis, congenital hip dislocation, high arched palate, foot deformities and joint
contractures, such as spondylocostal dysostosis. For later onset, which is more rare, they look for
mild symmetric myopathy, mildly affected facial muscles and occasional involvement of the
extraocular muscles, (Quinlivan 3). With the early onset diagnosis, physical therapy would
benefit from the patients experiencing hypotonia, scoliosis and joint contractures. Respiratory
support, breathing exercises and chest physiotherapy would be used for those with breathing
problems caused from Malignant Hyperthermia. Iannaccone also recommends consultations with
a nutritionist to make sure patients are getting enough fluid, potassium and calcium, because a
lack of any of these can contribute to cramping episodes, (Wahl 3). Getting calcium back into
your body is a major key while having this disease, as your body s regular circulation of calcium
is off. As of right now, there is no cure for Central Core Disease, only supportive and
rehabilitation measures. MDA s current commitment to research in CCD, as of Jan. 25, 2010, is
$1,156,989, spread over seven grants, (Wahl 1). In the past six years, the research has grown and

Holden Caulfield Depression
Today, 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression, over 5% of the entire population on
Earth (Healthline). While 5% may not seem like much, it is absolutely appalling to think that any
one person deserves to feel depressed. Despite being apart of the human mind ever since creation,
doctors and psychologists today are still struggling to understand what causes the mindto break
down to a state of utter sadness and self loathing. Even more troubling is the fact that not many
people, primarily parents, are exposed to the utter damage that the disorder may cause to their
children. Unlike physical disorders, injuries, or other illnesses that attack the body, depression
attacks the mind. Depression can take the brightest day and turn it... Show more content on

Despite being a fictional character, the mental issues Holden faces throughout the novel have
stood the test of time, and are now more prevalent than ever before. Whether it s a rough break
up, the loss of a loved one, or parental negligence, every single person has hit a low at one point
in their life. The problem is, much like in the case of our Holden Caulfield, that these people
may not receive the proper care and attention required to avoid slipping deeper. That is why
millions of people, teenagers and adults alike, suffer from depression of many different types
and severities. This story provides only a glimpse into what goes on inside the mind of a
growing teenager suffering from the disorder. At the time of release, the 1950s, it is reported
that depression was considered a rarity, and a taboo one at that. Mental illnesses were not treated
nearly as well back then as they are today. In the 50s, Holden s only solution would be to see a
psychoanalyst, which readers do see at the very end of the story. However today, with depression
and suicide at an all time high, Holden would be treated much differently. In the modern world of
medicine and psychological support, Holden would be most likely been able to be treated with
antidepressant medication like Lexapro or Zoloft, pills that would slowly help his mental state be

History And Purpose Of NAFTA
Conflict has always been an influential part of the history of man. Conflicts associated with trade,
are some of the most common products of human existence. It simply means to trade something for
something else and some ended up unhappy in the end. The items traded might be goods, services,
relationships, methods or ideas. Although once the initial terms of a transaction have been settled,
often disputes arise after the fact. Believe it or not Paid in full does not mean that the relationship
ends for neither the buyer nor the seller. A buyer might say This is not what you told me you were

The Negative Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence
On average, an American encounters approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of
eighteen. However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns
regarding whether television and video game brutality has a negative effect on the public by
promoting cruelty, dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research
conducted on the issue are unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other.
In fact, statistics demonstrate how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly
throughout time, despite the growing video gamepopularity. Lastly, in society, people look for
anything to transfer the blame, especially in regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s
community. As a matter of fact, by reviewing the extensive research the conclusion was drawn
stating, exposure has no effect on barbarity. Therefore, television and video game ferocity does not
have a negative effect on the population.
Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically, the studies conducted fail
to assess accurate information essential in the process of proving cause and effect. Not to
mention, previous studies that revealed a link between the two factors only focused on short term
effects and did not take other factors into account. In reality, children get riled up over images

Sexual Harassment And Gender Harassment
1.Introduction
It is perhaps an exaggeration to recommend that no hypothetical work has been done around the
area of Sexual Harassment, as the primary systematic attempt to outline theoretical space of Sexual
Harassment and build up a complete classification system had started in the year 1980 (Fitzgerald
et al. 2010). Sexual Harassment is defined as the unprompted male conduct that asserts a women s
sex role over her function as employee or intimidation of a sexual nature or the inappropriate
promises of rewards in return for sexual favors (Fitzgerald 1990). In most of the modern
cultures, it is very illegal and illegitimate to intimidate a person because of person s sex. Sexual
harassment is an issue which has been prevailing in the current workplace and is a major
attribute that prompts the effectiveness of an organization as it plays a main role in the
happiness of the employees which in turn results in goals of overall company to be achieved
(Reese et al. 2004). Employers should make this a top priority and see that it is not effecting the
performance of employees to achieve the goals of the organization (Collier 1995). Information had
been gathered through a survey which included females from two diverse cultures who worked in
a public sector company. The results showed that inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment
were co related and harassment based on gender was a bridge amongst the two behaviors. In
addition, these practices tend to happen again and

To Kill a Mockingbird Essay examples
Children look up to their elders for wisdom and advice. They rely on someone experienced and
with authority for guidance on how to live their lives. However, sometimes the people who are
accountable for youth mislead them; they may have good intentions, but are not mature enough to
exemplify their values and morals, or they simply are ignorant. In the novelTo Kill a Mockingbird,
Aunt Alexandra plays a negative role: she is a proper, southern lady with a strict code of
behaviour and etiquette, but is too closed minded and obstreperous to change her ways or view
the world from others perspectives. Calpurnia takes on the position of a positive role model by

...you can scrub Walter Cunningham till he shines, you can put him in shoes and a suit, but he ll

These words indicate not only a vituperative nature, but arrogance and obstinacy. She believes white
people are better than black people. She refuses to consider anything positive about people she
finds reprehensible; she is steadfast on her opinions about people and would rather not get to know
them. She is also quite domineering and officious; she often meddles with Atticus fatherly role:
...it s bad enough he lets you all run wild... (Lee, 83), Aunt Alexandra put him up to this... (Lee,
134).
This grandiloquence is a manifestation of hypocrisy in the novel because her behaviour towards
others is atrocious, yet she expects the best manners from Scout. Calpurnia is a much more
positive caregiver, as she is a strict disciplinarian, but to a lesser degree than Aunt Alexandra.
Likewise she is not a hypocrite; she could comment on the ways of white people because she has
been raised in a white environment.

Introduction My history day topic for 2016 is the Louisiana purchase: the deal between France
and the United States and the westward expansions to this new land. A historical event that took
place in the year of 1803, where america was a new land a young republic if you will where
pioneers had just broken form a king and started a new land with hopes of expanding from shining
sea to shining sea, the specific event that happened was that Thomas Jefferson( the president at that
time) bought land from France but more specifically he bought 828,000 thousand acres of land

The Tenants Of A Foolproof Governmental System
What are the tenants of a foolproof governmental system? How does one man or a group lead a
much larger society to prosper and grow? These are hard questions to answer, but there have been
a few key figures in history who have tried to answer them. Among the earliest texts on this topic,
Confucius Analects give some key insights into the topic. He seems to think the key to this perfect
government is for the leader and the people to be a gentleman . Plato brings a more detailed view
on the topic with his The Republic. He decides that the key is to have everyone specialized in the
job they have the most aptitude in. Then comes Machiavelli and his The Prince, with his
seemingly pessimistic view on life, to give stricter rules for the leader to follow. He says to always
be prepared in war and to put up a façade of virtuewhile doing what needs to be done in the
background. Once someone takes all three of these texts into context, they can begin to form a
picture how ancient and even modern governments are and have been run. Although, one has to
keep in mind that each of these men also thought they had the definite answer to this perfect society,
so keep studying their and even more modern works. Confuciusmain attribute for a model
government was a model leader that the people could follow and try to mimic. This leader should
be virtuous and a gentleman while studying history and ritual. He explains that one is virtuous If he
treats worthy persons as worthy and is

Water is one of the most important natural resources for the life in our planet, which is why all
nations in the world make afford to prevent the contamination for this precious liquid. It is

Whole Foods has already bought its largest competitor, Wild Oats, which has shown to be
profitable. By promoting organic foods Whole Foods can increase sales and attract new
customers by introducing them to the Whole Foods experience. Whole Foods would benefit not
only by promoting itself but the industry in general. In addition to promoting organic foods, they
could enhance their brand image and loyalty by continuing their community service efforts. If
the industry continues to grow and they continue to bring about brand awareness and loyalty,
Whole Foods could strengthen its market share and profitability. The key threats that Whole
Foods faces include: local grocers increasing their organic food options, the size of Whole Foods
stores deterring customers, and the price of organic foods. Local grocers could potentially take
away from Whole Foods sales by stealing the customers that want to get in and get out. If
customers can get the organic foods they want at a smaller grocery store, some customers may
switch to them. This is where the size of Whole Foods stores becomes a threat to themselves. If
they continue to buy and build large stores they could potentially deter some of their consumers to
the smaller grocers in the area. Also what is a threat now is the high price of organic foods.
Consumers must pay a premium for these items because they cost more to produce. Whole Foods

Step F: Observe and record the reaction results with the limewater.
The lime water turned into white opaque color, and gas bubbles and white precipitate was formed,
as placed the open end of the gas delivery tube(reaction between Alka Seltzer tablet + water) into
the limewater.
Part 4
Step C: Record your observations of your breath with the limewater.
As I blow gently into the limewater with a straw, the limewater turned into opaque white color.
Conclusion:
The purpose of this experiment is to investigate some physical and chemical properties of gases and
to use these properties to identify these gases when they are encountered.
I could learn how to identity Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and hydrogen and oxygen
mixture when they are present through this experiment. Before conducting this experiment, I
should know the combustion chemical reaction first to predict right results. The most interesting
thing was the experiment for gases of hydrogen and oxygen mixture. Through the reaction
between hydrogen and oxygen, H2O is produced. H2O is water as we know. So I just expected that
flame would blow out due to the water vapor. But it was wrong. The flame grew bigger with a pop
and a flash.
To reduce error for this experiment, it was crucial to collect right amounts of gases from the
reaction and handle it quickly for the next step due to properties of gases.

Social Unity In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
Social Unity in Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath
The unity of mankind is a theme that has been often reflected in literature, in politics, and in
philosophy. Throughout history, it has been articulated by such luminaries as John Donne, who
famously wrote that no man is an island ; Ralph Waldo Emerson, who developed the concept of the
Oversoul; and more recently John Steinbeck, who as an author brought the theme of social unity
into a new, popularly accessible light. Regarded as an exceedingly influential figure in American
literature, Steinbeck saw man as a part of a whole, often against a background of the disintegration
of larger social and economic units and systems ( Biography of John Steinbeck 12). This view is

Socrates Impact On Greek Civilization
The Greek civilization had a magnificent influence in history. Scientific methods, the Latin
alphabet, extravagant art, democracy and philosophy were all created during this era. Philosophy
brought new ideas and ways of thinking. Although, several people had a major impact on Greek
civilization Socrates, Alexander of Macedon and Solon all influenced the way we live today.
Socrates, born in Athens in the 5th century BCE, marks a watershed in ancient Greek philosophy.
Compared to the others he had the greatest impact on Greek civilization. Socrates challenged and
question the norm. He taught that no one desires what is bad, and so if anyone does something that
truly is bad, it must be unwillingly or out of ignorance; consequently, all virtue

Life In Pompeii
Life Before the Eruption
The year was 79 A.D. The people of Pompeii were going about their daily lives, when suddenly,
the entire top of the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded. Within days, the entire metropolis
was buried under twenty feet of stones and ash as lethal gas filled the air, causing approximately
22,000 casualties. Because Pompeii was so well preserved by the stones and ash, it provides
insight on what daily life in Pompeii was like. From the archeologists findings we can tell that
some aspects of their lives resemble ours. Like us, the citizens of Pompeii ate on the run, had
similar values and interests, and had many roles to play in their households.

Many artifacts found in the ruins imply this. For example, many of the glasses found in the
ruins had a blue stain in the bottom of them. While it may not seem significant, the blue stain
actually tells us the people of Pompeii liked wine like many adults do today. Another thing we
know about the people of Pompeii is that they ate a lot of bread. In every bakery excavated by
the archeologists, bread pans were found. And from the type of pan we can also tell the bread in
the ruins is the same type of bread sold in Italy today. Weird, huh! We can also tell that the
women liked to wear makeup and pearls were in style back then from the ruins. Now that we ve
discussed their interests, let s discuss their values. Many of the people in the ruins died holding
their children, money, or jewelry ( The Buried City 38). That is how we know what they valued
most.
Yet another way the Romans of Pompeii resemble us is the way they had many roles to play in
their households. Like many of us the citizens of ancient Pompeii were Jacks of all trades.

Different Types of Nuclear Energy Essay
As a source of energy, nuclear energy provides a safer alternative, for the production of energy
for large scale consumption. There are two different types of nuclear energy; nuclear fission and
nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission is the process in which a nucleus spits into two or more smaller
nuclei. Nuclear fusion is the process in which two nuclei fuse together to form a larger nuclei.
Nuclear reactors can become unstable creating an uncontrollable nuclear reaction. The effects of
this can be seen in Chernobyl. Reactors have been designed safer after this disaster.

The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which
then turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common
source of electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both
safer and easier to build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A
nuclear reactor s main components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the
coolant. These components are all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight
rods, these are called the fuel rods. The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and
control rods. The coolant absorbs excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor.
Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects
those outside from the large quantities of gamma radiation given off.
Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy
than fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs
temperatures of 20 million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity.
This nuclear waste takes centuries to become safe. Klaus Rolf, a member of Ruhr University in
Bochum, Germany, believes he can make radioactive waste safe in decades instead of centuries.
Rolf claims to have cult the half life of sodium by 1%. This was done by

John Ross Trope In Social Work
Ross in this influential work speaks of the holes that we dig ourselves into every day and,
consequently, how we can dig ourselves out of them. Each hole that humanity, both collectively and
individually, is a mental, physical and social construct; because Few tropes have been more
ubiquitous in Canadian criticism of the last two decades or more than the trope of construction

incarcerated in its own ideas about how the world should work, humans lose sight of how it actually
does, sometimes without even knowing it. One example of this social hole that

Power In Crime And Punishment Crime And Punishment By...
According to Foucault, power does not belong to the individual, but to the system, to the
institution. In his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon
mechanism, a mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual
individual in the role of the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power
over the observed. Due to the unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no
blind spots for the observed to hide in. The private space is replaced by the public one.
Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the observed never knows for sure if they are being
watched or not, as they can t see the observer (Foucault 200 205). Foucault further argues that this
system is followed by any government institution, placing the society under permanent observation.
Individuals might try to evade the system, but achieving liberation and freedom is not something
that anyone could do. Dostoevsky s famous novel, Crime and... Show more content on

In the past, the acceptance of homosexuality was extremely difficult, as it has now been

family and John become friendly, leading to Homer wanting to invite him and his wife for dinner
next time. However, Marge eventually tells Homer that John is gay; Homer is completely shocked
and instantaneously, his attitude and demeanor changes toward John. The hyper irony behind this
episode is a reflection of the way American society is portrayed; through the television show, the
depiction of homosexuality aids American society to take charge of whom they are as an

Fountainhead Essay Outline
Ayn Rand, the author of the book Fountainhead, had very strong and insightful beliefs. One such
belief, as quoted by Ayn Rand, pertains to the idea of people that do not follow trends. She
believes that throughout history there have been people that decided to step off of the path that
everyone was on, in order to create their vision that no one has had before. The second someone
does something different many people start to think they are crazy and do not think their ideas are
practical. Although the inventors face much opposition, they still manage to come out on top. Ayn

people continued to love her not only as an actor, but as a singer too. A few years ago, Miley

provocative outfits. Ayn Rand states that when people start to go off the path that everyone else is

Defendant Hankins filed a motion to correct an illegal sentence on appeal after pleading guilty to
felony charges because he argued a Kansas trial court wrongfully considered a deferred judgment
from Oklahoma in his sentencing calculation. The State argued that Kansas law required such
deferred judgments from other states to be included in sentencing determinations. The Supreme
Court of Kansas disagreed with the Court of Appeals dismissal of Hankins motion, finding that
there was a discrepancy between Kansas and Oklahoma s statutory standards for an entry of a
judgment of guilt. Under Kansas law, the Court concluded, a conviction requires a judgment of
guilt. However, under Oklahoma law, an entry of judgment will not be entered for an offender who

Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy Essay
Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy
By Ashlyn R. Thomas
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s gripping tale, The Scarlet Letter, a revered Puritan minister suffers from
cowardly guilt and hypocrisy after he commits adultery in this novel staged in the seventeenth
century. Arthur Dimmesdale, who hides himself in the shame of his lover, Hester
Prynne, protects his reputation among the Puritan people. The scaffold, a public symbol of
disgrace, contrasts with the pastor s silent sin of adultery. When Hester became a symbol of sin
among the people and wore the scarlet letter as punishment, Dimmesdale bears a sinner s masked
mark in his heart. As a result of his concealed sin, Dimmesdale suffers from guilt and hypocrisy.

Shrieking aloud like those suffering souls who turn away from the face of God, Dimmesdale felt
little relief from the iron chains of guilt and hypocrisy. Longing to free his guilty soul, Dimmesdale
stood on the scaffold imagining Hester s disgrace. Illustrating his inner conflicts, Dimmesdale had
expressed himself by screaming aloud.
Immediate horror encompassed him because he is afraid of being discovered by the town. Alone
in the abyss of darkness, upon the pedestal of shame, Dimmesdale found little relief in his private
confession in the second scaffold scene.
Finally, a few days later, Dimmesdale confesses his sin publicly in the third scaffold scene,
showing his repentance and thereby finding relief from guilt and hypocrisy. Allowing his sin to
fester in his heart for over seven years, Dimmesdale, now a dying man from sin, decided to
ascend the scaffold. Dimmesdale, understanding that he, a dying man, sought mercy and
forgiveness, and climbed the pedestal in guilty remorse. Ye that have loved me! ye, that have
deemed me holy! behold me here, the one sinner of the world! At last I stand upon the spot where
seven years since, I should have stood! 3 Beckoning Hester and their child, Pearl, to his side,
Dimmesdale s voice strengthened. As he confesses, the people recognized Dimmesdale bore the

Argumentative Speech About Fraternities
What comes into your mind when you hear the word fraternity ? If you will be given the chance to

everyone have their own perspective when it comes to fraternities. However, originally, fraternities
or fraternal organizations were meant to be an organized society of men associated together in an
environment of companionship and brotherhood. They must be dedicated to the intellectual,
physical, moral, religious, and social development of its members. There are many attributes that
fraternities may or may not have, depending on their structure and purpose. Fraternities can have

But sometimes, the real essence of having fraternities is being repudiated because of some immoral
acts done within the organization. In the Philippines, the existence of fraternities are not
prohibited. In fact, some are existing as legal organizations carrying the purpose of being an asset
within the community. But in a setting like this in our country where powerful people abuses those
who are not in position to make their stands, where the real meaning of brotherhood is disregarded,
I believe that this is not an appropriate country to dwell with fraternities. The government should
abolish fraternities for they take away the significance of education and morality in the Philippines.
It is argued that the establishments of fraternities bring a very good sense of brotherhood and
companionship that leads to a well organized community. Fraternities started existing wayback
because of the strong desire of people in the Middles Ages to show companionship. Undeniably,
they are really intended for good purposes and until now the arguments between the pros and cons
of such organizations exist. First are for those

you were poor and did not know from where you would be getting your next meal? What would it
be like to be forced to live in a workhouse? These are some of the questions you might ask yourself
if you were living in early nineteenth century

The Importance of the Origin of Our Food
Today s average supermarket has become a place of optimal convenience for the average

most have become a one stop shop for people. You can find anything from clothes, tools, toys,

A Brief Note On Industrial Products And Safety
Industrial Products and Safety When you are on the job, there is nothing of greater importance
than your safety and that of your crew. Safety becomes even more critical when the dangers of
height, machinery, chemicals, and power tools are added into the equation. Further, there are
times when the job site is in a public location, adding a plethora of safety hazards into the mix.
Ensure you are fully equipped with highly visible alerts and warning signs, devices, and barriers.
The better a work site is controlled, the safer it is for all involved, and don t forget about the
elements. Whether it s the sun, rain or freezing snow and ice, mother nature can turn an average
day on the site into a major work hazard. The proper safety equipment not only reduces the
number of workplace accidents and injuries, but it is required by state and federal employee
safety laws and regulations issued by OSHA, ANSI, and the FDA. From eyes and ears and from
head to foot, quality protective and safety equipment is one area that can never be overlooked in
your quest to protect your employees, reduce insurance premiums, eliminate lawsuits, and keep a
happy, healthy crew operational. With over 40 years of experience in the construction/industrial
tool and supply industry, Fasttoolnow, has considered all of the variables when it comes to

Satire Essay
Satire is a great tool used by many writers and actors since ancient times. The earliest example
that we know about is a script from 2nd millennium BC in Ancient Egypt (Definition: Satire) and
since then has evolved into a great part of our society. Satire is used to point out the faults of
human vice in order for change and reform in either of two ways. There is a very bitter Juvenalian

to insult or offend anyone. This is just to show the faults of something and make people realize why
they are wrong. Both encourage change, and both are important.
Arguably, one of the most successful Juvenalian satires ever written is A Modest Proposal by
Jonathan Swift. Swift satirizes many things in the essay, with the most prevalent being the way
that England treats Ireland. Many of the inhabitants living there were poverty stricken and
starving to death. Swift then presents his plan to sell the children for food and that way they
could earn a little bit of cash. He says, I have been assured by a very knowing American ... that a
young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food
(Jonathan Swift). This is a very strong incongruity because eating babies isn t something

A Short Note On Earthquake Alarm Structures Of A Wireless...
IV. EARTHQUAKE ALARM STRUCTURES
The earthquake alarm wireless system is divided into two parts,
1) Transmitter part (sends signal) 2) Receiver part (receive signal)

microcontroller is then send to a Xbee S2.
ADXL335: ADXL335 is a type of 3 axis accelerometer which is very thin, low power and small
and sends voltage outputs to the microcontroller. It is a kind of gadget which can be utilized to
recognize stuns, vibration and it likewise has some different applications, for example, for
gaming, cell phones, picture pivot and cameras.Instead of using some additional temperature
circuits in building this system ADXL335 can be used as it is very efficient and has very less
error. It can measure in 3 xis with a measurement range of В±3g. In this system is connected to
ADC pins for analog to digital conversion.

My Dad Is A Pawn In American Culture
My dad is a pawn, my dad is a bishop, my dad is a knight, sometimes he s a rook, other times he s
a queen, but I am the king.Though very inferior yet without pawns, it is almost impossible to
win a chess game.It serves as a wall, defending and attacking solemnly while adjusting to the
different situations of a game.Coming to the US in 2012,I had a perception of how life would
be due to what I heard and saw, life will be fun, I will have many friends,I will be rich in the
future and I will enjoy the American Life, however, I was caught off guard and the harsh reality
of life rather embraced me. My dad just as a pawn was very careful of the people I called friends
and tried to shield me away from them as much as possible.Commencing life here,I thought

Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest
Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address and Emily Dickinson s
Success is Counted Sweet, are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of
discourses. The Second Inaugural Address, is a great example and definition of what Rhetoric is.
It encompasses all four resources of languages argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices.
Success is Counted Sweet, doesn t cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric;
therefore, it is categorized as a poem. According to the chapter, rhetoric addresses unresolved issues
that do not dictate a particular outcome and in the process it engages our value commitments. (15).

He states how both, the North and South, read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and
neither the North nor South expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it attained.
Lincoln also maintains an optimistic tone throughout the speech and invokes unity with his
parallel structured sentences. Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest, doesn t cover all
four resources of language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional
appeal for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its
value and the desire and want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states,
The distant strains of triumph break, agonizing and clear. What Dickinson means by this is that
gaining success can be the most beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to
reach. This creates an emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making
the people have a desire for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining
success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic devices throughout her poem, which also creates an
emotional appeal for the audience. She uses metaphors to describe success by stating, Success is
counted sweetest. Dickinson also uses her poem to recreate what was occurring at the time of the
war. She speaks of the purple Host which is the representation of the Army and capturing the

Policy And Its Effect On Public Services
Policy and its effect on Public services Economists employed by the government are involved in
implementing policies, which were especially established to meet government s objectives that are
very often multidimensional. There are four very fundamental objectives for viable economy,
including decreasing the unemployment rates in certain regions, lower or stabilise the inflation,
constant economic growth and a satisfactory balance of payments position. The UK economy
continues to suffer from a number of underlying structural weaknesses. The government is now set
on providing the economic framework, which will enhance the opportunity to raise a sustainable
rate of economy growth, (Anderton, 2006). Economic growth also known as... Show more content

There are many questions what arise from the topic of the economic growth. For instance, how can
nations speed up their economic growth? There are many successful strategies to self sustained
economic growth. According to Keynesian policy prescriptions, long term growth can be achieved
through structural policies such as supply side policies, which would improve the long term
performance of the economy. Supply side policies emphasize incentives and tax cuts as a means of
increasing economic growth. Such policy was espoused by President Reagan in the USA, but also
Prime Minister Thatcher in Great Britain, (Nordhaus Samuelson, 2005). Supply side economists
argue, that high taxes lead people to reduce their labour and capital supply. Arthur Laffer has
suggested that the high tax rates might actually lower tax revenues, (Nordhaus Samuelson, 2005).
This Laffer curve preposition holds that high tax rates shrink the tax base because they reduce
economic activity. However, mainstream, economists doubt the Laffer preposition that cutting tax
rates would increase tax revenues, ref. They believed that there s a need for a radical restructuring
of the tax system called supply side tax cut, REF. According to this philosophy, reform should
improve incentives by lowering marginal tax rates . This would lead to lowering tax burden on high
income individuals, but also encourage productivity and supply

Iliopsoa Research Paper
The iliopsoas is actually two muscles, the psoas major and the iliacus. They originate in different
areas, but come together to form a tendon, hence why they are commonly referred to as one
muscle. Unlike many of the anterior thigh muscles, the iliopsoas does not extend the leg at the
knee joint. The psoas major originates from the lumbar vertebrae, and the iliacus originates from
the iliac fossa of the pelvis. They insert together onto the lesser trochanter of the femur. The
iliopsoas flexes the lower limb at the hip joint and assists in lateral rotation at the hip joint. The
psoas major is innervated by anterior rami of L1 3, while the iliacus is innervated by the femoral

The quadriceps femoris is the main extensor of the knee. This muscle also influences our form in
many other types of movement, depending on how weak or how tight this group of muscles
may be.Because the iliopsoas muscles work when you lift your leg toward your torso, the lying
leg raise is an example of how you can strengthen the iliopsoas. Perform this exercise with or
without weights. To begin, lie on your back with your legs extended.Tight iliopsoas muscles are
associated with lower back discomfort because the muscles pull on the pelvis and affect range of
motion in the lower back. After you work to strengthen the iliopsoas muscles, stretch them to
minimize muscle tension. The iliacus originates in the iliac fossa of the pelvis. The psoas major
unites with the iliacus at the level of the inguinal ligament and crosses the hip joint to insert on the
lesser trochanter of the femur. The iliopsoas is involved in flexion and lateral rotation (supination)
of the thigh. The psoas is a deep seated core muscle connecting the lumbar vertebrae to the femur.
The psoas major is the biggest and strongest player in a group of muscles called the hip flexors:
together they contract to pull the thigh and the torso toward each

Walgreens Essay
History
[edit] Company history
A typical Walgreens Pharmacy.
The Walgreens chain began in 1901, with a drug store on the corner of Bowen Ave and Cottage
Grove, Chicago, Illinois, United States owned by Galesburg native Charles R. Walgreen, Sr.[6]
By 1915, there were five Walgreen drugstores. He added several improvements to the stores such
as soda fountains and luncheon service. He also began to make his own line of drug products
and was then able to control the quality of the items and sell them at lower prices. By 1916, 19
stores were in operation, all in Chicago. And in that same year, all the stores were consolidated
under Walgreen Co. The 1920s was a very successful decade for Walgreens
. In 1921, the company

This development coincided with the invention of the electric blender in the same year.
[edit] Store model
An Uptown Houston Walgreens at a street intersection.
Originally, Walgreens stores were connected to local groceries. In Chicago, which is Walgreens
primary market, they teamed up with either Eagle Food Centers or Dominick s Finer Foods,
usually with a walkthru to the adjoining store and often sharing personnel. This concept was
instated to compete with the popular dual store format used by chief competitor Jewel Osco.
Eventually, they ended the relationship with Eagle and focused primarily on a connection to the
Dominick s stores, which were considered to be of a better quality. PharmX Rexall stepped in and
filled the vacated Walgreen locations joined to Eagle stores.
In its 2009 business model Walgreens locations are always set up as freestanding locations at the
corners of busy, intersecting streets on the prevailing side of the street with the most traffic flow
literally making it a corner drugstore similar to how many independent pharmacies evolved over
the years in the United States. This also usually allows the store to offer additional conveniences
such as a drive through pharmacy and 24 hour shopping

Themes Of Catch 22
Catch 22 s Recurrent Themes as Real World Issues
Heller provides a satirical depiction of military bureaucracy and authoritarianism through the
many antics of a B 25 bombardier, Yossarian. When Catch 22 was first released, its reviews were
polarizing. Some critics praised its raunchy humor and depiction of war, in all of its gruesome
detail. Others loathed its seemingly nonsensical plot structure and repetitiveness. Heller, born in
1923, was part of the G.I. Generation and served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a
bombardier. He flew sixty missions, but one drastically affected Heller. In a flight to Avignon,
after dropping his bombs, his pilot went into a large climb but nearly stalled the plane s engines. In

He would plead insanity, but he cannot due to the Catch 22 principle that requires him to file a
report of insanity; however, this would prove he is actually sane because he fears for his own life.
Yossarianwitnesses the death or disappearance of most of his close friends before the end of the
book, leaving him with nothing to lose. In a final act of defiance, Yossarian proclaims that he is
not flying any more missions. The officers take him into custody and give him an offer: go home to
the United States and spread the good word about the war effort, or be court martialed. He takes
the first offer, but then goes AWOL in a B 25 on a route to Switzerland (Heller). The Catch 22
principle and Yossarian s defiant acts create a picture of the effects of authoritarianism, greed, as
well as military bureaucracy as seen through the eyes of Heller during the 1950s and 1960s.
The Catch 22 principle functions as a literary device repeatedly throughout the book as a
representation of authority s theft of personal freedom. The principle is repeatedly used as a
justification for obscene acts and statements in the book. For example, at one point Military
Police officers raid a brothel frequented by the soldiers and officers. They ransack the building
and destroy everything that is breakable. When Yossarian arrives to the brothel, an old woman is
worried sick about all of the prostitutes and says Catch 22 says they have a right to do

Cyrus The Great Thesis
Cyrus II otherwise known as Cyrus the Great was the first Achaemenid emperor. Cyrus II was
born around 580 B.C. in Anshan, Iran (Persia) in which Cyrus was supposed to have been said
to grow up there. Cyrus is supposedly the grandson of the Median king Astyages. When Cyrus
was born, Astyages had a dream that one day Cyrus would overthrow him as the ruler. As a result
of this dream, he ordered for baby Cyrus to be left in the mountains to die, but he was found by
some herders who then raised him as their own. After 10 years, Astyages heard that the boy that he
had sent to the mountains had not been killed after all, but had lived, so he allowed him to return to
his birth parents. When Cyrus turned twenty one, he finally got to take over the throne and become
the emperor of Anshan. At the time when he had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyrus may not have done this all on his own. The leader of Cilicia, which was part of Asia
Minor, had helped him out when he went to overthrow Croesus. Cyrus was one of the of the
most notorious leaders, conquerors, and administrators of the ancient world. He is credited for
being the one to start and make the Achaemenian Empire prosper. After Cyrus s death his empire
didn t die with him, it actually kept expanding and growing more and more for the next two
centuries. He has been placed high on the pedestal in the minds of many of the Persian peoples,
along with those of the Romans who think very highly of Romulus and Remus who had
supposedly built Rome from the ground up to what it was, and still is today. Cyrus is appreciated
by the Iranian (Persian) society even to this day because of how his life started with him being
taken to the mountains to die, how he overcame many obstacles to build his great empire, how he

Essay On The Battle Of The Bulge
Battle of the Bulge By the time World War II ended, numerous battles were won and lost by both
sides. Millions of soldiers were killed defending their countries. One of the most famous battles
was the Battle of the Bulge. The result of this battle would all but end any hope for Adolf Hitler
to win World War II. The essay will cover the events leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, how
this battle was fought, the casualties, and what happened after this battle was over. This will
give a better understanding, some expertise, and awareness of how important this battle was to
the Allied forces. The Battle of the Bulge is said to be Adolf Hitler s final, desperate gamble of
the war (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was
because by this time in World War II, Adolf Hitler was running low on supplies. Knowing that
this war could end for him soon, he made a frantic effort to try and win the war. Since he was
low on supplies his goal was to reach the post city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allied front and
their much needed supply lines along the way (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th,
1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was an important battle that needed to be won, and it is said
to be the largest and perhaps the most savage land battle fought by the Americans in World War
Two (The Battle of the Bulge: Hitler s Final Gamble, 2005). This battle started on December 16,
1944. This started with the surprise

Dove and Manchester United
Merit One
Introduction
I have been asked to produce a clear set of notes to go with my presentation of Dove and
Manchester United fully comparing the effectiveness of the marketing concepts and principals.
First of all I am going to start comparing the similarities of the aims of the two businesses. This is
that Manchester United wants to become the best football club on and off the pitch. Dove has a
similar aim which is trying to grow its brand of the real beauty campaign for women. This will be
effective for both branding companies as they will become one of the top sellers when it comes to
future high standards.
Promotion
Same Manchester United and Dove communicate the promotion of their product by using the media
like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manchester united, however, have to base their product pricing at a fixed rate with the competitors
club/ business because fans will not be happy and will end up in an argument. The pricing
depends on the individual name and number on the back of the t shirt like for example Ronaldo
number 7 would be at the highest fixed rate as he is the best player for Manchester united. The
prices vary from ВЈ46 57 after that.
Appropriate Dove s pricing is appropriate as it is used as a daily product so spending ВЈ2 15 for a
product is reasonable in this case.
Manchester united s pricing is also appropriate as they are popular to their fans especially and
they have set their aim of becoming the best football club on and off the pitch so this would lead to
gaining more profit.
Product
Type Dove manufactures their products for beauty range of women. These are not just a limited
type of women; these are women of all shapes and sizes, ethnicity and age over 40. The beauty
products of Dove are required for every household as it is a leading brand product but it is also a
product that helps allow women to pamper themselves and look after their skin.
Manchester united, on the other hand, manufactures and sells their products to fans of the football
club as this

Why Is It Important To Work In The Military
ВЁTo serve in the modern military... is to treat the necessary service and sacrifice of war with
sacred honorВЁ (ВЁJ.D VanceВЁ). This quote was said by J.D Vance while talking about the
necessary needs for the military. Members of the U.S military is to maintain the U.S national
defense. Although some service members work in occupations specific to the military, such as a
fighter pilot, infantry men. Many work in occupations that also exists in civilian workplace such as
nurses, doctors, and lawyers (ВЁbureau of labor statisticsВЁ). The united statesmilitary would be a
great opportunity because it allows people to work outdoors, it s also great physical labor, and
creates fantastic employment opportunities.
Some benefits of being in the army reserves is that people get to work outdoors. In the reserves
everyone performs special training. What they mean by that is that everyone gets up early and jogs
three to five miles. Then everyone goes into completing the rope course. (ВЁThey have installation

go over kombat plans. National training exercises combine to make three different components.
The first component is running. When anyone joins the military, no matter what branch you are
required to run three to five miles everyday. They also learn how to fight, cause when it comes
down to it and both people dont have a weapon you need to know how to put someone down.
Also get to learn how to disarm someone. This is good to know cause in case anyone ever needs to

Cause And Effects Of Texting And Driving
Does it seem like everywhere you go people are preoccupied with texting? Often people are seen
with the cell phone in one hand and texting while walking, in a restaurant eating with friends,
working or shopping. It has become a part of everyday life. The convenience and the need to stay
connected has made texting a useful method of communicating, that has increased dramatically
with teenagers. According to Dr. Delgado, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at
Perelman School of Medicine, Adolescents report that texting is the most common way that
they stay in contact with friends, sending an average of a hundred texts per day (para. 1). This
includes texting while driving. The effects of distracted driving from texting include legal
penalties, increase in insurance premiums, motor vehicle crashes, and even death. Texting while
driving has become a major problem in the United State and a simple LOL can have serious
consequences. The main cause of the texting craze is the ability to send and receive quick
messages. It is simpler than making a phone call and getting caught up in a conversion when your
time is limited. It also allows you to share and respond instantly so there is a sense of always
being connected to peers. Texting has become more popular than talking on the phone or even face
to face. So much so that texting has become the way that adolescents forge social bonds, and
texting between adolescents often serves to promote social cohesion in peer groups

  • 2. Female Italian Artists of the Baroque Period Female Italian Artists of the Baroque Period Many male artists during the Baroque Period were tremendously successful having received many commissions from a multitude of rich patrons. Their equally talented female counterparts were not as accepted in the male dominated society. Although equally talented, the patriarchal mentality of the times ensured a difficult road for some in the artistic world. The more prominent female artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia Fontana and Orsola Maddalena Caccia had the advantage of having fathers who were prodigious artists themselves and provided the training required for them to flourish as great virtuosos in their own right. I will show and explain some of their known works. Artemisia Gentileschi was a very talented albeit restricted female artist during the Italian Baroque period. She was born in Rome on July 8, 1593, to Orazio Gentileschi and Prudentia Montoni. Her father, Orazio, was a great and highly sought after artist for his work in frescoes, altarpieces and portraits. A most notable patron was Pope Paul V. Orazio was surprised at his daughter s talent for painting and ensured that he gave her the proper training. She has also had the distinct advantage of being surrounded by a variety of local and foreign artists. As young as twelve years old, Artemisia was able to expertly grind and mix her father s pigments and assist him in small commissions. Her first known dated painting was Susanna and the Elders, completed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Ways We Lie, By Ericsson Most of the people lies and doublespeak when they are desperate to escape from situations that they can t say the truth. For example, a dad can t say that his wife died to his children because they can be shocked in a young age. In this book, The Ways We Lie , Ericsson talks about the types of lies and how they are used. The other book, The World of Doublespeak, Lutz shows the types of double speaking and the examples. A lieis a false statement or action especially made with the intent to deceive and doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t. Both of them are saying the false statement to someone but doublespeak is making the people to be understood in several ways. Lying can cause a negative effect because people who misunderstood might occur problems which might be risky. However, lying can be very effective. In life, there are certain stations where you just have to lie. In society, just by people changing their clothings can make other people think differently. When I put on a suit to go to see a client, I feel as though I am putting on another face. (Ericsson 122). Central Core Disease, or CCD, affects one the body s most major systems muscular, in a way that everyday people cannot imagine from infancy to adults. Patients with Central Core Disease go through more than muscle weakness but also more complications that come along with this disease. In early onset, doctors look for hypotonia poor fetal movement, respiratory insufficiency; delayed motor milestones, scoliosis, congenital hip dislocation, high arched palate, foot deformities and joint contractures, such as spondylocostal dysostosis. For later onset, which is more rare, they look for mild symmetric myopathy, mildly affected facial muscles and occasional involvement of the extraocular muscles, (Quinlivan 3). With the early onset diagnosis, physical therapy would benefit from the patients experiencing hypotonia, scoliosis and joint contractures. Respiratory support, breathing exercises and chest physiotherapy would be used for those with breathing problems caused from Malignant Hyperthermia. Iannaccone also recommends consultations with a nutritionist to make sure patients are getting enough fluid, potassium and calcium, because a lack of any of these can contribute to cramping episodes, (Wahl 3). Getting calcium back into your body is a major key while having this disease, as your body s regular circulation of calcium is off. As of right now, there is no cure for Central Core Disease, only supportive and rehabilitation measures. While 5% may not seem like much, it is absolutely appalling to think that any one person deserves to feel depressed. Despite being apart of the human mind ever since creation, doctors and psychologists today are still struggling to understand what causes the mindto break down to a state of utter sadness and self loathing. Even more troubling is the fact that not many people, primarily parents, are exposed to the utter damage that the disorder may cause to their children. Unlike physical disorders, injuries, or other illnesses that attack the body, depression attacks the mind. Depression can take the brightest day and turn it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite being a fictional character, the mental issues Holden faces throughout the novel have stood the test of time, and are now more prevalent than ever before. Whether it s a rough break up, the loss of a loved one, or parental negligence, every single person has hit a low at one point in their life. The problem is, much like in the case of our Holden Caulfield, that these people may not receive the proper care and attention required to avoid slipping deeper. That is why millions of people, teenagers and adults alike, suffer from depression of many different types and severities. This story provides only a glimpse into what goes on inside the mind of a growing teenager suffering from the disorder. At the time of release, the 1950s, it is reported that depression was considered a rarity, and a taboo one at that. Mental illnesses were not treated nearly as well back then as they are today. In the 50s, Holden s only solution would be to see a psychoanalyst, which readers do see at the very end of the story. However today, with depression and suicide at an all time high, Holden would be treated much differently. In the modern world of medicine and psychological support, Holden would be most likely been able to be treated with antidepressant medication like Lexapro or Zoloft, pills that would slowly help his mental state be ... • 11. The Negative Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence On average, an American encounters approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of eighteen. However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns regarding whether television and video game brutality has a negative effect on the public by promoting cruelty, dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research conducted on the issue are unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other. In fact, statistics demonstrate how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly throughout time, despite the growing video gamepopularity. Lastly, in society, people look for anything to transfer the blame, especially in regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s community. As a matter of fact, by reviewing the extensive research the conclusion was drawn stating, exposure has no effect on barbarity. Therefore, television and video game ferocity does not have a negative effect on the population. Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically, the studies conducted fail to assess accurate information essential in the process of proving cause and effect. Not to mention, previous studies that revealed a link between the two factors only focused on short term effects and did not take other factors into account. In reality, children get riled up over images they may see and are likely to act out for a short period of time. However, this does not prove overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Sexual Harassment And Gender Harassment 1.Introduction It is perhaps an exaggeration to recommend that no hypothetical work has been done around the area of Sexual Harassment, as the primary systematic attempt to outline theoretical space of Sexual Harassment and build up a complete classification system had started in the year 1980 (Fitzgerald et al. 2010). Sexual Harassment is defined as the unprompted male conduct that asserts a women s sex role over her function as employee or intimidation of a sexual nature or the inappropriate promises of rewards in return for sexual favors (Fitzgerald 1990). In most of the modern cultures, it is very illegal and illegitimate to intimidate a person because of person s sex. Sexual harassment is an issue which has been prevailing in the current workplace and is a major attribute that prompts the effectiveness of an organization as it plays a main role in the happiness of the employees which in turn results in goals of overall company to be achieved (Reese et al. 2004). Employers should make this a top priority and see that it is not effecting the performance of employees to achieve the goals of the organization (Collier 1995). Information had been gathered through a survey which included females from two diverse cultures who worked in a public sector company. The results showed that inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment were co related and harassment based on gender was a bridge amongst the two behaviors. However, sometimes the people who are accountable for youth mislead them; they may have good intentions, but are not mature enough to exemplify their values and morals, or they simply are ignorant. • 16. The Tenants Of A Foolproof Governmental System What are the tenants of a foolproof governmental system? How does one man or a group lead a much larger society to prosper and grow? These are hard questions to answer, but there have been a few key figures in history who have tried to answer them. Among the earliest texts on this topic, Confucius Analects give some key insights into the topic. He seems to think the key to this perfect government is for the leader and the people to be a gentleman . Plato brings a more detailed view on the topic with his The Republic. He decides that the key is to have everyone specialized in the job they have the most aptitude in. Then comes Machiavelli and his The Prince, with his seemingly pessimistic view on life, to give stricter rules for the leader to follow. He says to always be prepared in war and to put up a faГ§ade of virtuewhile doing what needs to be done in the background. Once someone takes all three of these texts into context, they can begin to form a picture how ancient and even modern governments are and have been run. Although, one has to keep in mind that each of these men also thought they had the definite answer to this perfect society, so keep studying their and even more modern works. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods. The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. In his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon mechanism, a mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual individual in the role of the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power over the observed. Due to the unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no blind spots for the observed to hide in. The private space is replaced by the public one. Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the observed never knows for sure if they are being watched or not, as they can t see the observer (Foucault 200 205).
