Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music
It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another
completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of art,
different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of music. A
brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the music of Claude Debussy and his widespread
influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic music (a title he
personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely new realm of
harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of extended
harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a unique sound
completely different from his contemporaries. One of the genres his music inspired was Jazz. Debussy
s usage of harmony and modulation was highly influential on many of the Jazz greats including Duke

Somewhat unconventional, Debussy employed several techniques that composers before him had
explored, but he delved with a level of detail that none had accomplished previously. Thoroughly
aware of the diatonic system, Debussy sought to build upon it. He had a fascination with exotic
harmonies as demonstrated through his work. At its core, the diatonic system is used to classify
harmonies in a particular key (or set of keys), but Debussy added altered and extended harmonies such
as 9ths and 13ths that provided extra coloring to his chords. Sharpening 9ths, 11ths and 13ths created
tension, flattening them created even more tension, and leaving them natural provided stronger
consonance. His treatment of diatonic harmony strongly correlated to his implementation with
bitonality and polytonality. Debussy would superimpose major or minor triads on top of 7th chords to
extend his harmonies and suggest multiple key

Statement Of Purpose In Molecular Biology
For all my life, due to rapid increase in the number of cancer patients and my fear of it, I was thinking
about a new way to find a drug that can treat it without major side effects. That s why I planned to
study pharmacy to be aware of cancer biology and latest approaches for it s treatment. Then I decided
to continue my studies and to get my masters in the field of Molecular Biology so I can perform
researches and try to find a new treatment for this disease. since my financial abilities is not well
established, I was searching how to win a scholarship and what are the requirements to get, and I
found that scholarships are very competitive. So, I worked to be qualified to be accepted into one of

Additionally, I was working in my field of interest Molecular Biology trying to explore a new method
for treating cancer. I found a mechanism using gene therapy techniques by applying chemical

the annual scientific conferences and I got the 8th position. But, unfortunately we have not the ability

Anorexia and Bulimia
Bulimia and anorexia is a growing epidemic in America. Bulimia and Anorexia can start at any age,
but is most common between the ages of 11 17 years old. Of all the individuals that experience this
illness only 50% of all of them are ever cured, and another 6% that suffer from this horrible illness
will experience death. This illness has become very deadly to our young adults.
Bulimia and anorexia can cause a distorted image in a persons mind because they truly believe they
are overweight. In their minds they are beyond doubt obese. Even if the person weighs only 95
pounds. This sickness has the person thinking they are overweight. This could bring about a severe

Some of the symptoms for anorexia and bulimia are not very noticeable. A signs of this behavioral is a
person s refusal to eat, or the person being very picky about what they eat. The
Also another symptom could be if the person is on a continuous diet and exercise all the time.
(Erichsen) In addition if the person is sensitive to the cold weather or cold items this could be a sign
too. People that have fear of gaining weight or becoming fat can as well become sufferers of this
illness. The person that eats a lot of food, but their weight still stays the same can experience this
problem. If a person goes to the bathroom after meals this could be a problem. If there are signs of
vomiting or a smell of vomiting.(internet3)
Many girls worry about their bodyweight, but that does not mean that they are anorexia or bulimia.
Some of the boys and girls that have this illness can look in a mirror and see themselves as fat, but the
real picture is that they are as thin as a sheet of paper. (Moe15) Some girls become anorexia so they
can lose their menstruation cycle.(Moe10) This allows them to experience swelling of the lower legs
and feet, or loss of sensation in the hands or feet due to dehydration.

The Threat Of Homeland Security
Homeland Security was created to protect not only the persons living and infrastructures within the
U.S. but outside as well. Though its existence, homeland security has done a spectacular job due to the
fact that the country is still standing. There are many persons and countries that would love to see
America fall flat on its face. Through corrective policy action and growth within our intelligence
functions we are now as strong as we were before. Nonetheless, Homeland security may still have its
flaws. In recent events, we have seen mass riots such as that in Ferguson, Mo and lone wolfs attacks in
the U.S. This has caused the activation of our National Guard. The military plays a large part in
overseas accomplishments and also plays a part within our borders. For military members to be
utilized on U.S soil they must first be activated by way of Title 10 orders. Before this can happen, the
in state governor must first place a request for military support. That request is then routed to congress
for approval. Military presence is used more so in augmentation on a temporary basis until local
authorities gather enough forces to disperse the situation. The military also has a larger role to play in
securing our homeland. If you look up and the sky you see a lot of space with these small lines in it
that streak across the sky. These are most likely our fighter jets patrolling our friendly skies. This was
pivotal in the response during 9/11. Our fighters were able to shoot

Reverend Dimmesdale s Slip In The Scarlet Letter
Reverend Dimmesdale s Slip Oh how the mighty fall. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s THE SCARLET
LETTER we see this man of God, this mighty Reverend who was viewed in an almost aristocratic
way plunge head deep into a pit of guilt and self pity, because he is scared to admit he is Hester s
secret lover, and our good reverend eventually drives himself mad with sorrow and meets his end.
This can be confirmed by a line for a paper written about Dimmesdale s feelings throughout the book
Dimmesdale alone knows that he is the man signified by this A for adultery and A for Arthur. This
scarlet letter is indeed a letter, an item of private correspondence between lovers (Valenti, 10). WE

He becomes demonic and is tempted to do some strange, wild, wicked thing or other, at once in
violation of his nature and emanating from some unknown and profounder part of it (CE 1:217).
Anticipating Freud s view of the mind an unconscious of sexual, aggressive, and otherwise tabooed
impulses precariously restrained by a socialized conscience Hawthorne writes of a total change of
dynasty and moral code in Dimmesdale s interior kingdom (CE 1:217). His ruling superego has been
dethroned, and unconscious forces formerly held in check by conscience and will are unleashed and
seize control. Within his own mental universe, Dimmesdale has indeed, as he fears, sold himself to the

Binary Oppositions Vs. Evil
Have you ever tried to examine a piece of writing? Did you see a connection between characters,
plots, themes? One thing you might not have noticed is binary oppositions. Now all readers will see
some universal oppositions such as good vs. evil, but as Corey Martin said in his paper there are many
oppositions in literature, some are noticeable, some are not. Now why would a reader want to look for
binary oppositions in literature? Quite simply binary oppositions add some familiarity to the work, but
at the same time the reader has to analyze the work in order to understand it, which enhances
analytical skills present in them. Now does that mean that all good works of literature have to have
many binary oppositions for it to be fully developed? No, the author can have as few as one and the
piece of literature will still make sense and be developed. Readers may get confused between binary
oppositions and themes. A theme is the main idea the author is trying to get across in a story. Binary
oppositions help develop the theme, but they are not the theme themselves. For example let s use
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The theme is simply young love. But Shakespeare used
oppositions such as love and hate, and violence and peace to build on his theme. In Euripides tragedy,
Medea, the main character Medea was taken away from her homeland and from her family and
brought to a strange world by her husband Jason. Jason used her to get the golden fleece, as this was

Loss Of Children In The Stone Boy By Gina Berriault
The Stone Boy
Way too often we see kids who are neglected emotionally after a tragic event, and how negatively it
effects them later on. It forces them to give up their innocent childhood. That is exactly what happens
in Gina Berriault s short story The Stone Boy . The story is about a 9 year old boy who accidently
shoots his older brother dead. The boy shows no emotion, whatsoever, and it is clear the grownups do
not understand him, so he is labeled with words like cruel . He does not understand his feelings and he
loses his identity when his mother rejects him in a way no mother should. So he is left alone,
beginning to believe that he is actually cruel.
When we first meet Arnold, he is an innocent 9 year old child. There is nothing unusual about ... Show

When the accident happens, we see Arnold go into some state of shock and his actions after this point
are described as mechanically . This is a way for Arnold to shut off his feelings so he does not have to
feel the great grief of the loss of his brother. The Sheriff and the parents misinterpret his way of
dealing with his sorrow, and instead they label the boy as cruel. Arnold is already in between identities
because of the accident, which threw him out of the childish innocence, so he needs his parent s
guidance and comfort more than ever. He is very insecure, and in the interview, he relies completely
on his father s answers. However, when his parents believe he is cruel, he thinks it must be right, so he
takes on this new identity.
This new identity is described in the title as the stone boy , but this is not at all the boy we meet in the
beginning, so Arnold goes through quite a change in the short story.
There is also a transformation in Arnold s identity from day to night. In the daytime, we see a kid who
does not show any emotions. He does not seem to regret his brother s

Studio Shaft Essay
What made Shaft different? What really sets studio Shaft apart from others is its director Akiyuki
Shinbo. He revolutionized the studio into what it is today. As a director Shinbo brings such an
imaginative style to all of his, and subsequently Shaft s work. The big things Shinbo does different
then other studios is first off what he chooses to create. While the studio realizes heavily on original
anime which boosted success as discussed below in advertising, the works they adapt into anime are
carefully chosen. They are not always popular by themselves, and are not aimed at very broad
audiences. In fact they are all aimed at very niche audiences, such as Bakemonogatari which was
aimed towards to teenage boys. This creates a basis for a dedicated audience, willing to purchase
merchandise of the anime. Shaft also with Shinbo s unique art style is incredibly recognizable. Every
show they produce follow a set style of how the backgrounds are focused on more than most anime, or
the way in which characters move that isn t always humanoid.
Why did their effective advertising work When working with original anime or original anything for
that matter such as television shows, there lays a distinct advantage in the advertising world that Shaft

While gathering a cultish sort of following can be much more profitable. This means market your
product to people willing to buy it, not just think it s cool. This kind of mentality can be not only
applied to anime, to help other studios. However it can be applied to the entertainment industry as a
whole. Also if something has a brand name and a style to it, people will be more likely to consume it.
So hopefully other anime studios can learn a better way to sell their anime, in order to create a bigger

Evaluation Of User Requirement Analysis Of Data Warehouse...
Evaluation of User Requirement Analysis in Data Warehouse Design
1.0 Introduction
A data warehouse (DW) can be acknowledged as one of the most complex information system
modules available and it is a system that periodically retrieves and consolidates data from the sources
into a dimensional or normalized data store. It is an integrated, subject oriented, nonvolatile and a time
variant collection of data in support of management s decisions (Inmon, 1993).
1.1 Data Warehouse Design Process
When considering the suggestions of various authors who are well known in the field, such as William
Inmon and Ralph Kimball the DW design process can be divided into three main stages (Figure 1).
The first phase which is DW planning is aimed at determining the scope and the objectives of the DW.
The second phase will be concentrating on individual data marts (DM) and will be repeated for each
DM to be implemented. And according to the Figure 1, the second phase can be further divided into
five distinct main phases. The final phase will focus on performance optimization and keeping the DW
schema up to date. This paper will be focusing only on the requirement analysis phase.
In DW lifecycle, one of the most crucial phases that might affect all other phases of DW development
is the Requirement Analysis phase. It is a process of collecting requirements from end user. The goal
of this phase is to identify organizational objectives and elaborate requirements that could measure

My First Impression Of Bafa Bafa After Hearing The Rules
Bafa Bafa Reflection My first impression of Bafa Bafa after hearing the rules was that it would be an
enjoyable class activity. Little did I know, that the activity would go much deeper than just being a
class activity. Bafa Bafa simulates the human interactions in the world as we know it. It teaches a
lesson of diversities and miscommunications between them. It permits everyone and anyone to
experience the notion of being foreign or an outcast . In Bafa Bafa, I was a part of the Alpha culture.
In order to collaborate with my classmates, I had to dim my strong feminist attitude in order to play
along in the patriarch culture. I wasn t particularly phased by the close proximity and close contact
interactions as these were already engrained in me. I quickly realized that a connection was forming
between the students that were forming the Alpha culture. Whether this was due to close interactions
or passion of playing an act, I do not know, but the feeling of membership was strong and present. The
rules were even well tolerated and respected, as no deviants were actually really present in the group. I
was observing and becoming part of an in group mentality as referred to in Psychology. I was an
Alpha and by God, I will play this game well and right to be a really good Alpha. My mentality went
from being a class member of EDU 150 to being a member of culture Alpha. I also noticed a change in
regards to culture Beta, my other classmates from EDU 150. When presented at

The Importance Of Environmental Problems In The World
Environmental problems are known to be a Wicked problem because there are so many sides one must
please, and ultimately never solve. From power, transportation, food scarcity; each one of these face
technological and government borders. The fact is it is hard to make people agree, it is truly
remarkable that the United Nations still stands and operates today when so many earlier versions of it
have failed. Still when countries are not at war together, their own country is not revolution, the topic
of the environment takes center stage. Because events like global warming are not one country s
problem, btu everyone s as humans are all connected by the same ocean. Brining in environmentally
friendly buildings, to working with municipalities, schools, and communities to become more green.
How the ever growing population leads to more problems, and above all how one teacher can make a
difference in so many student s lives. The world is forever changing, which is why humans have to
change with it, and what not better time to change when one leaves the comfort of their parents and
embark of to their first grand adventure to university.

Examples Of Microaggression In The Movie Crash
Abstract
This paper explores the 2004 Lions Gate film Crash and the microaggressions that occur to and
between the characters in the movie. The film follows the interweaving lives of several characters
living in Los Angeles as they deal with racism, discrimination, relationships, and loss. Throughout the
film, the characters also begin to come to terms with their own biases and prejudices. The author of
this paper includes the three major types of microaggressions displayed in the film: microassault,
microinsult, and microinvalidation, describes how they occurred, and the effect these
microaggressions had on the victims. Possible counseling implications for each microaggression for
both the perpetrator and the victim are discussed. Throughout this paper, the author s personal feelings
and thoughts related to the microaggressions, and possible implications (oppression and
discrimination) of the microaggressions both intentional and unintentional are explored.
Keywords: Crash, microaggression, microassault, microinsult, microinvalidation, counseling
implications, discrimination.
The Movie Crash Assignment In 2004, Lionsgate Films released the movie Crash to critical acclaim.
The film takes place in modern day Los Angeles and shines a light on the racial and social tensions
between groups of inter related characters (Haggis, 2004). The characters include a district attorney
(Brendan Fraser) and his prejudiced wife (Sandra Bullock), a Middle Eastern store owner (Shaun
Toub), and two inner city friends who make money by stealing and selling cars (Chris Ludacris
Bridges and Larenz Tate). Throughout the film, the various prejudices and microaggressions of these
characters are revealed as they interact and find their lives becoming intertwined. According to Sue
and Sue (2016) microaggressions are brief and commonplace daily verbal or behavioral indignities
that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults that potentially have
harmful or unpleasant psychological impact on the target person or group. Microaggressions tend to
be subtle, unintentional, and indirect, often occur in situations where there are alternative
explanations, and represent unconscious and conscious

Analysis Of Kim And Mauborgne And Their Blue Ocean Strategy
Introduction:
In the early 21st century, the economic and social context became difficult; it is partly due to the
economic crisis but also by the low consumption. Many companies are struggling to find their place or
event to remain sustainable. Faced to this global economic uncertainty and increased taxes that effect
revenues, the customers; me and you, prefer to save rather than consume. Furthermore, the household
income allocated to consumption continues to decline. In addition to that, this situation makes the
consumers more volatile, looking just for the low cost or even a good plan». Meanwhile, companies
are also struggling to maintain the growth. So then they try to drastically cut costs or suggest different
offers without an added value.
Based on this general assumption, the conventional models including porter s strategic management
seem to have had their day. However, other theories have been created to try to change and renew the
components of market. This is the case of Kim and Mauborgne and their blue ocean strategy which
represented a revolution in the competitive market. This strategic paradigm is presented as a
revolution! Its implementation will lead the company adapted to success by creating new demand and
avoiding competition. This strategy seems to be similar to a dream, do not worry! The dream is
overtaken by reality.
This report is a critical review of Blue Ocean strategy. It examines and explains both the blue ocean
and porter s model as a

Don Quixote
What giants? [says] Sancho, amazed, (Cervantes 36). Those giants you see over there with long arms:

In Chapter 7 of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes portrays Don Quixote as an idealistic character
who believes that the windmills are giants, and because of this, it can be said that Don Quixote has a
crazy mind that creates objects to be something they are not. Don Quixote is a chivalric romance and
takes place at the period of the Spanish Inquisition; however, Cervantes Xportrays a lunatic man who
goes on adventures throughout La Mancha, Spain as a knight errant. Throughout this novel shows
Quixote being quixotic. Quixotic deals with extravagant chivalry or romance, followed by seeing
objects impractically. In the story, there are characters who see and think in a ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Flamingo By Jennifer Price
In Jennifer Price s The Plastic Flamingo she illustrates the cultural impact the pink flamingo had on
the United States. Price conforms her idea of the United State s culture by providing important
historical details to better portray and reveal the true passions of America during the rapid rise of the
plastic flamingo. Price s overall view towards the United States would be that Americans are self
conceited and obsessed with wealth. In the first passage Price describes the growing population of the
flamingo, throughout the United states, starting in Miami. Price uses historical context to emphasize
the central idea that flamingos had a rapid growth in a short period of time. She uses the quote, In the
1910s and 1920s, Miami beach s first grand hotel, The Flamingo, had made the bird synonymous with
wealth and pizzazz. to show how the growing fad would start. The quote, Since the 1930s ,
vacationing Americans had been flocking to Florida and returning home with flamingo souvenirs.
illustrates that after the hotel had been built, Americans instantly caught on to flamingos, most likely
because it symbolized wealth. The historical context portrays that Americans are obsessed with wealth
and strive to climb higher on the social ranking ladder. This ultimately reveals Price s view towards
the United States as materialistic and wealth hungry.
In the second passage Price continues the timeline of the flamingo popularity. Price starts off the
paragraph by introducing irony to

Patients get a pressure ulcer for a legion of rationalities. According to Alene Burke of Nursing
Assistant Education, some of the elements why people get them which she cited from Nettina, S.
(2009), are old age, deficient mobility, lack of moisture, and insufficient diet. Moreover, factors like
neurological and other physical problems, friction and shearing, bed and chairs with wrinkled linens
or hard objects and pressure ulcers in the past may similarly predispose pressure ulcer. This
observations implies that in nursing care pressure ulcers are prospected as negligence, however it is
arrogated that pressure ulcers are avoidable on the condition that prime level of care is continuously
rendered to patients and residents. (Burke 2010). Working in a healthcare domain means providing the
most effective and beneficial care for the incompetent patients. Particularly, to those who needs
intimate nursing assistance such as dressing, bathing, eating, toileting and skin care activities (
Wurster 2007).This is especially true if the person is mentally, emotionally, and physically dependent
like the clients in nursing homes. Nurses, health care assistants or support workers and other health
care providers ought to educate themselves for improving quality of care and exceeding specific
benchmarks in regards to pressure sores ( Wurster 2007). All the same the basic

Essay on Naturalism and Realism
Beginning in the late 19th century, two separate movements spread across America know as realism
and naturalism. While the two were very similar in their beliefs and ideals there were still many
apparent distinctions to differentiate the two. Realism and naturalism showed themselves in many
aspects of life, from art and sciences to new math techniques and even religion. However, above all
else these movements may have been most evident in the literature of this time. Reading through
American literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it becomes perceptible which short
stories portray realism and which represent nationalism. Mark Twain s humorous tale, The Notorious

As Bierce explains, The man who was engaged in being hanged was apparently about thirty five years
of age. He was a civilian, if one might judge from his habit, which was a planter. An attention to
specific details is given especially in Part I when the setting is being described. Countless adjectives
are used, giving the reader the understanding of the scene so that they can feel as if they are sitting in
and watching everything mentioned take place. Again, diction is used although not in the same way as
Twain had used it. Instead, a type of southern slang is used, denoting people from the North as Yanks
and to flax as tow. Finally, the last part of this story is made up on the lead character s daydream
which shows that Bierce was focusing on the psychology of the character, another very realist thing to
do in literature. Stephen Crane s ideas varied from those of Twain and Ambrose as shown in his short
story, The Open Boat. In the story, the crewmates of a diminutive boat are caught in a storm. This is
clearly more depressing than the stories of the other two authors cited but it also sanctions nature to
play a substantial role. In naturalism, nature often acts as a force that humanity cannot control. The
storm represents Crane s belief in

Fast Food And The Food Meal Essay
A fast food meal may not be so simple after all considering the ingredients that go into a meal. We
aren t fully aware of what all the ingredients are in our food. We just see either a short or a long list of
words that is just scientific jargon to us. We do become more concerned of what we are eating if there
is a long endless list of contents. One ingredient that we all know if high fructose corn syrup. There
are high amounts of it in our fast food which explains why we can get so addicted to fast food. Earlier
I said most of what a fast food meal is comprised of is sugar, carbs, and sodium. Sugar and fat are the
leading ingredients that give us an energy boost. They make energy dense foods which is what fast
food is an energy dense food. Energy dense foods are inexpensive to produce. Pollan says one reason
that obesity and diabetes become more prevalent the further down the socioeconomic scale you look is
that the industrial food chain has made energy dense foods the cheapest foods in the market (107).
Sugar is pretty cheap and it makes sense to price a meal at a low rate. We can t forget that most of a
meal is also comprised of corn which make it cheaper too. Because they are inexpensive, their price
isn t sky high which makes it ideal for low income families. They are able to afford a high calorie
meal at a low price. This explains why obesity tends to be more prevalent in low income households.
As we can see, the low price of fast food contributes to the weight gain

The Negative Effects Of Homelessness
Homelessness, what is homelessness? Well, there is no official definition of the word homelessness.
According to Health centers funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) use
the following: A homeless person is an individual without permanent housing who may live on the
streets; stay in a shelter, mission, single room occupancy facilities, abandoned building or vehicle; or
in any other unstable or non permanent situation. Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act.
Across America, many people tend to believe that homelessness is not a big deal. What they do not

Analysis Of My Life
The small, ethnically decorated room was filled with genuine laughter, echoing through the hallway. It
was the first thing I heard when I entered the room. A loud group of friends sat on the dusty, brown
couch in the middle of the room. The studs on their distressed jeans reflected the ceiling light that
shined into my eyes. The scent of the warm, Turkish coffee they were drinking lingered across the
room. Dozens of motivational posters covered the walls. There was a Moroccan inspired gold and
black trim that hung along the ceiling. I heard the mellow beat of a tabla, which is a popular musical

resources. I m pretty sure our director faces difficulties in bringing up issues facing Middle Eastern
culture and things like that because people don t really care, and we re such a small minority, Tamara

many individuals had to deal with such hatred. Tamara also brought up how many students of Middle
Eastern descent or those who practiced Islam came to the center for counseling and support after the
brutal terrorist attack in France in late 2015. Many students reported being taunted by racist comments
because they wore a hijab or a beard. Despite this unfortunate event, it did bring the community

and appreciate how lucky they were to be part of an organization that created a supportive atmosphere.

Brand Positioning
. POSITIONING Suppose we are asked, who makes the best instant coffee? Next , we are asked, who
makes the next best? there can be a number of brands which are next best, but only one brand that is
the best. In a number of product categories like TVs, cars, personal computers, paints, razorblades,
soaps and so on, we have our favourite brands or marketer. The top slot achieved by the brand in our
mind is called its Positioning. It entered our mind on account of communication through advertising,
word of mouth, product performance and other factors.
Thus, Positioning is the outcome of our perceptions about the brand relative to the competing brands.

It is defined by award winning advertising as well as by the god awful ads that have somehow slipped
through the cracks, got approved, and, not surprisingly, sank into oblivion. It is defined by the
accomplishments of your best employee the shining star in the company who can do no wrong as well
as the mishaps of the worst hire that you ever made. It is also defined by your receptionist and the
music your customers are subjected to when placed on hold. For every grand and finely worded public
statement by the CEO, the brand is also defined by derisory consumer comments overheard in the
hallway or in a chat room on the Internet. Brands are sponges for content, for images, for fleeting
feelings. They become psychological concepts held in the minds of the public, where they may stay

Ancestral Novo National Park Essay
Mesa Verde National Park Located in the southwestern part of Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park
was the home of Ancestral Puebloans from AD 600 to 1300. Located within the park are thousands of
archaeological sites and hundreds of cliff dwellings. Whether you have half of a day or a week at the
park, there are many opportunities to see not only the cliff homes that were built so long ago, but also
to enjoying some truly amazing geographically features in and around the park. When the Ancestral
Pueblo first inhabited this area, they lived on the mesa tops, close to their farmlands, but during the
1190s, they began living in pueblos they built beneath the overhanging cliffs (Cliff Dwelling).
Numerous cliff dwellings have their own names and can be visited while at the park, along with
hiking, and sites on the top of the mesas. The geology of the Mesa Verde is what made it possible for
the Ancestral Pueblo to build their magnificent cliff dwellings in the first place. While this area has

According to the Saenger official website, the Saenger Theatre opened on February 4, 1927. This

especially during the daytime. Now as I walked on the sidewalk. I see on the outside of the building a
timeline of historical events. I could not help admiring the facts posted around the building. They were
vibrant colored pictures detailing some facts about the Saenger and some fascinating historical events.
A notable picture talks about the first talkie to debut at the Saenger which was Lights of New York.

How Did Europeans Lead To The Greed Of Native Americans
Europeans had only brought problems to Native Americans The greed of the Europeans has ruined the
native american culture, The natives have lost all their principals and costums. Native Americans were
slowly obliterated from their lands throughout 1500 to 1800. The English, French and Spanish used a
method of mass murder called extermination. They used whatever it took to exterminate the most
Native Americans possible in a small amount of time. The English would not have done this had it not
been for greed. They wanted the land that the Native Americans had and they wanted it fast. This
greed did accomplish their task of taking land, but it also lead to the death of thousands of Native
Americans. As the European explorers came to America, they brought new diseases. The indians had
no immunity to the sickness that Europeans were bringing to their land. The most common ones were
smallpox, influenza, measles, and chicken pox.[http://ncpedia.org/history/early/contact] The natives
were not used to these diseases, their immune system was not prepared which resulted with the death
of entire villages. sometimes the diseases were transmitted by making simple physical contact with the
colonists. Other times, the sickness would spread as Indians traded with one another. ... Show more

of a successful series that explored this concept. The tone is dramatic. The theme of destiny is

from more development in the areas of structure, pace, and tension, as well as further character

another goal to figure out who killed his parents. This is a worthy goal, but the pilot doesn t focus on
this goal. It s also not clear how the crash is related to his goal of finding those responsible for killing
his parents. Tension and conflict drive a story. Overall, the structure doesn t provide a goal for the
protagonist that intensifies in tension. Thus, identify more clearly what s Mark goal is for the first

proactive and show how he overcomes obstacles. If the series real goal is to track down those who
killed his parents, focus on this. If it s to save earth, then this has to be better explained and Mark has
to have a plan of action. The structure s tag is also too long. The ending with the idea that Mark is

Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell And Vladimir Stalin
The Russian government is one of constant ideological change, from the October Revolutionist Lenin
to the extreme values of Josef Stalin. It can be argued that power always corrupts, as seen in the
character Napoleon from Animal Farm by George Orwell and Vladimir Putin with their characteristics
of corruption, centralizing government to suit their own needs, and the use of fear to keep their power.
To begin, we will elaborate on corruption. In the beginning of the novel, the animals on Animal Farm
conspire on a list of commandments. One of these commandments states, All animals are equal
(Orwell 25). This means that all animals, whether they are a cow, pig, bird, or horse, are equal. But, as
the chapters go on, the pigs increasingly gain power, due to Napoleon being the leader of Animal
Farm. The more power they gain, the less they work and contribute to the farm. The pigs did not
actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge, it was natural
that they should assume the leadership (Orwell Ch. 3). This provides evidence that they did not work,
rather bossed the animals around in the thought that they were superior. This directly relates back to
Mr. Putin. Countless articles and trustworthy sources have reported him as being deeply corrupt . The
New York Times states, The commonplace explanation in the Western media is that Mr. Putin himself
is deeply corrupt indeed, that he sits at the epicenter of Russia s corrupt edifice

Turning Points In Film History
When looking back on the Film history s turning points there are some few events that come to mind
such as the first edited film called Jazz Singer including the transition to sound or to the first feature
film that is presented in colour. Other also mention the use of deep focus from the film called Citizen
Kane While all these events completely revolutionize the development of films, there is one element
that is always overlooked when it comes to film which is the creative use of lighting. By exploiting the
significance of light and shadow Orson Welles Citizen Kane expressed a whole lot of meaning and
established a desired atmosphere which impacted the audience as well as the film genre in a lot of
ways.
Light and shadow was used by Orson Welles not as a requirement but to give certain scenes a meaning
and atmosphere. He used lighting in a meaningful way to make the viewers filled with emotions. Prior
to that moment movies conveyed it s messages from the screen to the audiences through the content

Putting the use of lighting to present certain mood to the audience can be traced back to early
expressionistic movies from early 20 s and 30 s. Horror movie such as Nosferatu , M , and The

Management by Objectives
Management by Objectives
Motivating employees seems to be a challenge for managers Discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of the MBO program and provide at least one example to support your discussion.
Goal Setting Theories have evolved since the 50s and have an impressive documented literature. The
Goal Setting Theory addresses the issues that goal specificity, challenge, and feedback have on
performance (Robbins, 2009, p185). Setting goals and motivating employees are always an important
issue for a manager, however in certain cases it is difficult to make it operational. A more systematic
way to utilize goal setting is with the management by objectives program (MBO), which introduced
the system of SMART method of goals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example I could refer to the Texas state government, who initiated the management by
objectives program in 1978 and ten years later analyzed the results (Lee, 1989, An Analysis of the
Implementation and Effectiveness of Management by Objectives (MBO) in Texas State Government).
As it was already mentioned beforehand this method has also its advantages and disadvantages, but let
s see which they were in this specific case.
On the whole the analysis highlighted that there was a common agreement that the main elements of
the MBO program are practiced at managerial levels. Managers pointed out that their units and
divisions became goal and result oriented, the work objectives were clearly defined and were put in
writing. There were sufficient checkpoints established and opportunities to meet with the superiors to

Macomb County Essay
Macomb Township is located 45 minutes North from Detroit and is in the center of Macomb County.
A population of almost 90,000, Macomb Township is a friendly suburban area with many

even an inline skating rink. The Fall Fun Fest increases Macomb s population with this popular, fun,

Devil Wears Prada Comparison Essay
Everything begins with an idea. But, can we make this idea better? If we add a little sparkle there and
some sequins there, will it be better? The same concept applies to books and film adaptations of such
books. Hollywood feels responsible for making these movies extravagant and bringing the wow factor
. Often times we forget that these movies are based on books, that contain the raw and limitless
thoughts of authors. But, is the book always better than the movie? While comparing The Devil Wears
Prada written by Lauren Weisberger, 2003 and the film adaptation The Devil Wears Prada screenplay
by Aline Brosh McKenna, 2006, these concepts are explored. In The Devil Wears Prada , we are
introduced to the protagonist Andrea Sachs, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it has the same title surely it can t be a different story, right? The movie should be respectful and pay
homage to the original work. Funnily enough, after reading the book and watching the movie, they
could not be more different. There may be people who agree with my opinions, but there may be
people who are fans of the actors from the movie, fans of the author or people that like to complain
about Hollywood, who would like to see how details were manipulated in the movie versus in the
book.
The parallel I am choosing to compare and contrast for plot development is the scene where Andrea
quits her job. In the book, Andrea and Miranda are on their way to a fashion show when Miranda tells
Andrea, she reminds her of herself when she was younger, Andrea is rendered speechless. When they
are at the event, Andrea steps outside to take a smoke when Miranda starts to bombard her phone.
Andrea rushes back and Miranda mocks Andrea s incompetence. Andrea cusses Miranda out and
walks out of the fashion show. Ahn dre ah, you realize what you re doing, do you not? You know that
if you simply leave here like this, I m going to be forced [Miranda] Fuck you, Miranda. Fuck you.
[Andrea]. She gasped audibly while her hand flew to her mouth in shock... (Weisberger, pg.342) This
quote shows how fed up Andrea was, since she essentially tainted her name in the writing world. In
the movie, everything starts the same way as in the book until the point where

How Did Julius Caesar Fall
Gaius Julius Caesar, was born in 100 BC, he was the son of a upper class family. His father s sister
was the wife of General Marius. Caesar married his daughter Cinna, in 76. They had a daughter named
Julia. Then, 8 years later she died. He supported the successful Commander s Pompey and Crassus.
He gained the biggest success of his career by being elected chief priest in 63. Three years later, he
made the first informal threesome. Between 58 and 51 he conquered central and northern Gaul as far
as the Rhine. When he got to the Rhine river, he built a bridge in ten days, which he used to cross the
river. In 55 and 54 he conducted two investigations of Britain. When this was happening, the
threesome began to fall because of resentfulness. When Julia died. The two began to hate each other.
They were also mad because Crassus disappeared. He was killed by the Parthians. ... Show more

Egypt and was killed by the government of the young king, Ptolemy XIII. Caesar followed him to
Egypt. After he and Cleopatra married, he fought the Alexandrian war against the king. The king was
killed in 47. Next, he beat the king Pharmasis in Asia minor. Later, he moved to north Africa. Four
months later, he beat Pompeii sons Cnaeus and Sextus at Thapsus. He went back to Rome to celebrate.

Essay on Prayer in Public Schools
Prayer in Public Schools
An issue that has been constantly debated for years is whether voluntary prayer in public schools
should be permitted. A student should be allowed to pray voluntarily at the beginning of each school
day based on many reasons. Prayer based on moral beliefs reinforce good citizenship as defined by
our forefathers. A daily reminder of a need for the belief of good over evil is a necessary part of this
society. Daily voluntary school prayer should be re instated in public schools due to three reasons, the
historical basis of the beginning of the United States government, the serious moral decline since
prayer has been outlawed, and the government infringement on the constitutional guarantee of
individual freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for reinstating volunteer prayer in public schools comes from the fact that since prayer
has been prohibited in public schools, the morality of the nation has declined. Since the Supreme
Court outlawed prayer in public schools in 1960, the nation has seen a steady moral decline. There is a
strong correlation between the expulsion of prayer in public schools and moral decline. Between the
years of 1960 and 1990, the divorce rate has more than doubled, teenage pregnancy and teenage
suicide has increased 250%. Child abuse is now at an all time high and since the end of school prayer,
abortions have gone up more than 1000%. Universal principles of a civilized society are mandated by
the Bible and re enforce by prayer. In the words of Ben Franklin, ? When we were subject to danger
from the war with Great Britain, we met daily in this room to pray for Divine protection. Our prayers,
Sir, were heard and graciously answered??Have we now forgotten our powerful Friend? Do we no
longer need his assistance?? The coming together to pray daily provide support, re enforcement and
fellowship to keep minds focused on good instead of evil. Many psychological studies have found that
people who pray daily have spiritual faith in goodness as presented in Christianity suffer less
depression and are less likely to commit suicide. Parents teach their children morals at home. These
lessons of right and

  • 2. Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of art, different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of music. A brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the music of Claude Debussy and his widespread influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic music (a title he personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely new realm of harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of extended harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a unique sound completely different from his contemporaries. One of the genres his music inspired was Jazz. Debussy s usage of harmony and modulation was highly influential on many of the Jazz greats including Duke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Somewhat unconventional, Debussy employed several techniques that composers before him had explored, but he delved with a level of detail that none had accomplished previously. Thoroughly aware of the diatonic system, Debussy sought to build upon it. He had a fascination with exotic harmonies as demonstrated through his work. At its core, the diatonic system is used to classify harmonies in a particular key (or set of keys), but Debussy added altered and extended harmonies such as 9ths and 13ths that provided extra coloring to his chords. Sharpening 9ths, 11ths and 13ths created tension, flattening them created even more tension, and leaving them natural provided stronger consonance. His treatment of diatonic harmony strongly correlated to his implementation with bitonality and polytonality. Debussy would superimpose major or minor triads on top of 7th chords to extend his harmonies and suggest multiple key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Binary Oppositions Vs. Evil Have you ever tried to examine a piece of writing? Did you see a connection between characters, plots, themes? One thing you might not have noticed is binary oppositions. Now all readers will see some universal oppositions such as good vs. evil, but as Corey Martin said in his paper there are many oppositions in literature, some are noticeable, some are not. Now why would a reader want to look for binary oppositions in literature? Quite simply binary oppositions add some familiarity to the work, but at the same time the reader has to analyze the work in order to understand it, which enhances analytical skills present in them. Now does that mean that all good works of literature have to have many binary oppositions for it to be fully developed? No, the author can have as few as one and the piece of literature will still make sense and be developed. Readers may get confused between binary oppositions and themes. A theme is the main idea the author is trying to get across in a story. Binary oppositions help develop the theme, but they are not the theme themselves. For example let s use Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The theme is simply young love. But Shakespeare used oppositions such as love and hate, and violence and peace to build on his theme. In Euripides tragedy, Medea, the main character Medea was taken away from her homeland and from her family and brought to a strange world by her husband Jason. Evaluation of User Requirement Analysis in Data Warehouse Design 1.0 Introduction A data warehouse (DW) can be acknowledged as one of the most complex information system modules available and it is a system that periodically retrieves and consolidates data from the sources into a dimensional or normalized data store. It is an integrated, subject oriented, nonvolatile and a time variant collection of data in support of management s decisions (Inmon, 1993). 1.1 Data Warehouse Design Process When considering the suggestions of various authors who are well known in the field, such as William Inmon and Ralph Kimball the DW design process can be divided into three main stages (Figure 1). The first phase which is DW planning is aimed at determining the scope and the objectives of the DW. The second phase will be concentrating on individual data marts (DM) and will be repeated for each DM to be implemented. And according to the Figure 1, the second phase can be further divided into five distinct main phases. The final phase will focus on performance optimization and keeping the DW schema up to date. This paper will be focusing only on the requirement analysis phase. Price conforms her idea of the United State s culture by providing important historical details to better portray and reveal the true passions of America during the rapid rise of the plastic flamingo. Price s overall view towards the United States would be that Americans are self conceited and obsessed with wealth. In the first passage Price describes the growing population of the flamingo, throughout the United states, starting in Miami. She uses the quote, In the 1910s and 1920s, Miami beach s first grand hotel, The Flamingo, had made the bird synonymous with wealth and pizzazz. to show how the growing fad would start. The quote, Since the 1930s , vacationing Americans had been flocking to Florida and returning home with flamingo souvenirs. illustrates that after the hotel had been built, Americans instantly caught on to flamingos, most likely because it symbolized wealth. The historical context portrays that Americans are obsessed with wealth and strive to climb higher on the social ranking ladder. Sugar and fat are the leading ingredients that give us an energy boost. They make energy dense foods which is what fast food is an energy dense food. Energy dense foods are inexpensive to produce. Pollan says one reason that obesity and diabetes become more prevalent the further down the socioeconomic scale you look is that the industrial food chain has made energy dense foods the cheapest foods in the market (107). Sugar is pretty cheap and it makes sense to price a meal at a low rate. We can t forget that most of a meal is also comprised of corn which make it cheaper too. Because they are inexpensive, their price isn t sky high which makes it ideal for low income families. They are able to afford a high calorie meal at a low price. This explains why obesity tends to be more prevalent in low income households. As we can see, the low price of fast food contributes to the weight gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell And Vladimir Stalin The Russian government is one of constant ideological change, from the October Revolutionist Lenin to the extreme values of Josef Stalin. It can be argued that power always corrupts, as seen in the character Napoleon from Animal Farm by George Orwell and Vladimir Putin with their characteristics of corruption, centralizing government to suit their own needs, and the use of fear to keep their power. To begin, we will elaborate on corruption. In the beginning of the novel, the animals on Animal Farm conspire on a list of commandments. One of these commandments states, All animals are equal (Orwell 25). This means that all animals, whether they are a cow, pig, bird, or horse, are equal. But, as the chapters go on, the pigs increasingly gain power, due to Napoleon being the leader of Animal Farm. The more power they gain, the less they work and contribute to the farm. The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge, it was natural that they should assume the leadership (Orwell Ch. 3). This provides evidence that they did not work, rather bossed the animals around in the thought that they were superior. This directly relates back to Mr. Putin. • 44. Devil Wears Prada Comparison Essay Everything begins with an idea. But, can we make this idea better? If we add a little sparkle there and some sequins there, will it be better? The same concept applies to books and film adaptations of such books. Hollywood feels responsible for making these movies extravagant and bringing the wow factor . Often times we forget that these movies are based on books, that contain the raw and limitless thoughts of authors. But, is the book always better than the movie? While comparing The Devil Wears Prada written by Lauren Weisberger, 2003 and the film adaptation The Devil Wears Prada screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna, 2006, these concepts are explored. In The Devil Wears Prada , we are introduced to the protagonist Andrea Sachs, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it has the same title surely it can t be a different story, right? The movie should be respectful and pay homage to the original work. Funnily enough, after reading the book and watching the movie, they could not be more different. There may be people who agree with my opinions, but there may be people who are fans of the actors from the movie, fans of the author or people that like to complain about Hollywood, who would like to see how details were manipulated in the movie versus in the book. The parallel I am choosing to compare and contrast for plot development is the scene where Andrea quits her job. In the book, Andrea and Miranda are on their way to a fashion show when Miranda tells Andrea, she reminds her of herself when she was younger, Andrea is rendered speechless. When they are at the event, Andrea steps outside to take a smoke when Miranda starts to bombard her phone. Andrea rushes back and Miranda mocks Andrea s incompetence. Andrea cusses Miranda out and walks out of the fashion show. Ahn dre ah, you realize what you re doing, do you not? You know that if you simply leave here like this, I m going to be forced [Miranda] Fuck you, Miranda. Fuck you. [Andrea]. She gasped audibly while her hand flew to her mouth in shock... (Weisberger, pg.342) This quote shows how fed up Andrea was, since she essentially tainted her name in the writing world. In the movie, everything starts the same way as in the book until the point where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Essay on Prayer in Public Schools Prayer in Public Schools An issue that has been constantly debated for years is whether voluntary prayer in public schools should be permitted. A student should be allowed to pray voluntarily at the beginning of each school day based on many reasons. Prayer based on moral beliefs reinforce good citizenship as defined by our forefathers. A daily reminder of a need for the belief of good over evil is a necessary part of this society. Daily voluntary school prayer should be re instated in public schools due to three reasons, the historical basis of the beginning of the United States government, the serious moral decline since prayer has been outlawed, and the government infringement on the constitutional guarantee of individual freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason for reinstating volunteer prayer in public schools comes from the fact that since prayer has been prohibited in public schools, the morality of the nation has declined. Since the Supreme Court outlawed prayer in public schools in 1960, the nation has seen a steady moral decline. There is a strong correlation between the expulsion of prayer in public schools and moral decline. Between the years of 1960 and 1990, the divorce rate has more than doubled, teenage pregnancy and teenage suicide has increased 250%. Child abuse is now at an all time high and since the end of school prayer, abortions have gone up more than 1000%. Universal principles of a civilized society are mandated by the Bible and re enforce by prayer. In the words of Ben Franklin, ? When we were subject to danger from the war with Great Britain, we met daily in this room to pray for Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard and graciously answered??Have we now forgotten our powerful Friend? Do we no longer need his assistance?? The coming together to pray daily provide support, re enforcement and fellowship to keep minds focused on good instead of evil.
