My Birthday Monologue
Hey, Eva, John s voice sings down my phone. Do you have plans tonight?
Just having a quiet night in. Since Alice is at work, I get the remote all to myself.
A little bird told me it was your birthday yesterday, so Patsy and I would like to take you to the
movies.
Sure, what time?
Seven sound okay to you? We re going to the dollar theatre since we re both broke.
Sounds like me. I have a little cash in my purse, should be enough for a ticket at least.
Leave your money at home, this is our treat.
I chew on my lip. When will people get it? I don t like birthdays, and I don t like gifts. A heavy sigh
escapes my lips as I recall Patsy s discontentment over my secrecy for my birthday. Reluctantly, I
say, Okay, I ll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I have admired on several occasions now. I pull my scarf higher to bury my face from the chill
while stuffing my gloved hands into my jacket pockets. The wind has intensified since leaving the
apartment and now howls around my ears, tousling my hair. Yet I stand, staring at the car
nevertheless. Why would Angelo be in this part of the town?
Before retrieving my phone, I remove my glove and call Alice, who answers after three rings. Hey,
babe, what s up?
I drag my hair from my face while retaining my gaze on the Shelby. I m heading down to the
cinema to meet Patsy and John.
Oh, nice. That should keep you out of trouble for a while.
If you re not busy, I thought you could join us.
Not tonight, sorry.
Are you at work still? Sounds like you have music playing in the background.
No, I m out with a friend right now.
Yeah, friend, she says. I know she s with Angelo right now, I m looking at his car. The clattering of
glasses in the background and the sound of people talking filters through the phone. Are you at a
bar or something?
Yes, the bar near my restaurant. Rachael s having boyfriend problems and asked me to help her
out. Not sure what I can do for her though, but she needs my support I guess.

The Party Exited the Courtyard
Minister Mike s party included Skylar, Ethan, Mr Pisher and a meager handful of the remaining
students each of whom tolerated the midday sun as they walked single file around the massive
Palace structure. The once magnificent lush grounds had turned into withering vegetation. Water
was scarce.
The new Government could not afford this luxurious expensive. Those who lived in the region did
not know why the devoted groundskeepers had recently abandoned their post. Soon, it would
become evident as Minister Mike s party continued around Egyptian style Palace.
The Babylon summer Palace was shaped in a U design, so when Minister Mike saw the balcony
above the first wing; he noticed Giselle by herself clutching the railing. She looked nauseated. He
wanted to say something. However, Mike felt it best to leave her alone.
Mike did not see Daniel ducking behind the balcony French door.
The Minister s party rounded the Palace. There they strolled into the three sided courtyard. Marble
terraced steps leaded from an Olympic size swimming pool to the main residence level. The scale
of the Saddam s Babylon Palace would rival those in Europe; mounted above the Babylon ruins, it
was easy to imagine the grand parties hosted poolside.
Now a drained pool sat eroding with desert debris. The diving board was scattered from its
mountings. It gave an eerie appearance to the dismal Palace grounds.
Skylar ascended the steps into the pool, and turn back to the Minister. She mimicked a

How Did Lenin Gain Power
The first two leaders of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin had very different
methods in commanding their country. Differences can be seen in the way they achieved their
political power and how they dealt with their political opponents. Similarities can be seen in the
way that these men were unwilling to share their power. Vladimir Leninachieved his political
power by rallying fellow Bolsheviks to seize government installations and storm the capital. The
plan made Lenin the visible figurehead of the Bolsheviks and the new government that was put into
place. While Lenin overtly planned his seizure of power, Joseph Stalinwas able to achieve his
power behind the scenes. Stalin used position as general secretary of the... Show more content on

Of the delegates who attended the National Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet
Union) in 1934, fully 70 percent had been executed by the time of the National Congress in 1939
(pg. 90). Through this purge, Stalin solidified his control over the communist party and the
country. Lenin differed by allowing his Bolshevik opponents to remain in their posts, but was
mindful of their activities. He took action to prevent these opponents from ousting him form
power. This action can be seen when Lenin, weary of his opponents turning to the Romanov
family for leadership had the entire family executed. A similar characteristic that both of these
leaders shared was their refusal to share power. This can be seen in Stalin s accumulation of
powers as the general secretary, which lead to his complete control of the country. Lenin also
maintained this trait as he actively tried to subvert the leftist that had opposed the coup before it
had occurred. I think that if Lenin had lived another twenty years that the country may have had a
completely different government in place. Lenin was able to guide the party through the civil car
that solidified his power in the new government, but he had a lot of opponents with differing views.
I think it is possible that there could have been another coup to try to

Homeric Seafaring
Surveying the Validity of Homeric Seafaring
Ancient Greeks predominantly lived in on island archipelagos or on the coast of nearby
mainland because mainland Greece is one of Europe s most mountainous countries, which
complicates animal and crop husbandry. Correspondingly, seafaring has always been paramount
in the Aegean, especially for the Greeks, due to ease of transportation, trade networks, and
defensive needs. Mainland Greeks utilized seafaring to bring in necessities cheaper than they
could produce them at home, and they saved time traveling by land, rather than trek the long
way through the mountains. When living on islands, sea travel is a necessity to contact
outsiders and participate in extensive trade. Even Greeks in Homer s epics appear to know the
sea well (Mark 2005, 145). Despite Greek seafaring s prominence, archeological and textual
evidence for seafaring in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Aegean is relatively sparse, with a
near lack of physical boat remains. Filling in holes, such as with literary sources, in the timeline
of Aegean seafaring provides a greater understanding of the development of Greek ships, as well
as the cultural implications of the technology invoked. The most extensive textual source of this
era s seafaring is Homer s epics, but they are epic poetry of the eighth or early seventh century BCE
concerning Greece s heroic, mythical past. Homer s Iliad and Odyssey are set in the Bronze Age, yet
include Iron Age elements (Mark 2005,

Similarities Between Englishment And Nationalism
Explaining the concept of Caribbean identity has proven to be challenging because the Caribbean is
considered to be a melting pot of various ethnic groups and culture. However, in the discourse of the
concept of Caribbean identity, the terms Scottish Enlightenment and nationalism are pivotal to this
discussion. Hence, the author of this paper will describe both terms and explain the similarities
between both concepts.
Scottish Enlightenment
The Scottish Enlightenment is characterized as an upsurge of intellectual and scientific
achievements during the 18th century in Scotland which emphasized reason and thought and the
power of individuals to solve problems. According to Berry (2000) the Scottish Enlightenment
refers to a self conscious movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also claimed that during the Enlightenment period there was growth in the area of literacy
which generated many new ideologies and the opposition of the old regime.
According to Scott and Marshall (2009) the Enlightenment thinkers purported that society was the
natural state of civilization and that individuals are innately social and their capabilities were
insignificant beyond a social framework. Nationalism shares this belief in regard to the concept of
solidarity founded in the preindustrial period (Hutchinson Smith, 1994). Moreover, both the
Scottish Enlightenment and nationalism contributed to national development and was seen in
establishment of buildings and monuments (Hutchinson Smith, 1994).
Furthermore, nationalism, similar to the Scottish Enlightenment contributed to nation building in the
context of recognition and unification of the community by offering an evolutionary view of its
society. Moreover, both nationalism and the Enlightenment altered the mind set of individuals
especially in times of social unrest. The thinkers of the Enlightenment and the cultural nationalists
were moral visionaries and were dedicated to social

Gregory Vii s Foundations
The challenge thrown out by Gregory VII forced the emperors to seek new foundations for their
position. Gregory s great opponent, the emperor Henry IV, had still asserted the traditional
rights of his father. His successors in the 12th century, Henry V (1106 25), Lothar II (1125 37),
Frederick I Barbarossa (1152 90), and Henry VI (1190 97), shifted their ground. To counter the
arguments of church lawyers they grasped the weapons provided by the revival of Roman law. A
new and more exalted conception of the empire was the result. Best known was the addition by
Frederick I Barbarossa, in 1157, of the word sacrum to the name of the empire, which then became
the Sacrum Imperium (Holy Empire) as a counterbalance to the Sancta Ecclesia (Holy Church).
Equally characteristic was the canonization of Charlemagne by Frederick s antipope Paschal III in
1165. In this way Frederick emphasized continuity with the Frankish past and asserted his rights as
Charlemagne s successor. They derived, he argued, not from conferment by the popeor by the
Roman people but from Frankish conquest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Against Pope Innocent III s claims to confer the imperial crown, imperial lawyers asserted that
he who is chosen by the election of the princes alone is the true emperor, even before he has been
confirmed by the pope. Nor is it surprising that, confronted with the universal claims of the papacy,
the Hohenstaufen emperors asserted rights no less universal. Though in day to day politics, in
their relations with the kings of France or of England, for example, there is no sign that they were
seeking world dominion, nevertheless the new imperialism soon called forth protests from all sides
from England and France, from Denmark and Hungary. Who, asked John of Salisbury, appointed
the Germans to be judges over the

Classical Management Theorists
Frederick Taylor and Henri Fayol were both theorists of the classical management movement. The
classical approach was the framework to what management is all about. Therefore it can be said that
they laid the foundation for many theorists. Frederick Taylor was an important theorist of the early
20th century and he made many important contributions to management. He proposed the principles
of scientific management which he believed would improve industrial efficiency. He believed
management could be formulated as a discipline. Taylor s principles of scientific management
focused on cooperation between management and the workers as well as improving the technical
skills of the workers (Hodgetts, 1995). His approach is often referred to... Show more content on

There is an almost equal division of work and responsibility between the management and the
workmen. The management takes over all the work they are better fitted than the workmen, while
in the past almost all of the work and the greater part of the responsibility were thrown upon the
men. (Hodgetts, 1995).
Taylor s scientific management focused on increasing productivity, whereas Fayol s administrative
management theory focuses on ways to make the organisation more effective and efficient.
Scientific management focused on employees as individuals and their tasks, general administrative
management theory dealt with total management organization. According to Pindur Rogers, 1995,
General management theory was a much broader theory concerned with administrative
management functions and is considered the forerunner of modern organization theory.
For Henri Fayol, management was not so much as a way of devising systems to increase
productivity but it was concerned with the integration of the different functions of the organisation
such as production, sales, finance and so on (Wren, 1994).
According to Fayol the success of an organization depended more on the administrative skills of the
manager than on

General Grain Theory Case Study
The third part of the general strain theory is the removal of positively valued stimuli. The
removal of positively valued stimuli could include many things. Some things that could be
involved in negative stimuli could be the death of a family member/friend, the loss of a
relationship, the loss of a substance that one might be addicted to, (coffee, drugs, videogames
etc.) the loss of previously owned money, or even the loss of a cell phone. The removal of
positively valued stimuli could include anything that was valued and then is taken away by some
force (Bernard, Snipes, and Gerould, 2010, p. 164 165). In the case of the Walmart shooting, one
can speculate that anything could have been taken from Willis, whether it was his job, friends,
family member, or maybe even his phone. This could have caused some type of strain in Willis s

Considering that Willis was stationed at the air base in Grand Folks since 2013, one could
speculate that Willis was missing his family. Willis saw his family two weeks before his crime.
The family of the airman explained how happy Willis was when visiting his family. The family
also explained that they did not see anything wrong with his mental state and was in disbelief that
Willis had committed such a terrible crime (NBC News 2015). Dude to these facts, one could
imagine that Willis could have missed his family a great deal. Willis could have been so homesick
that he would rather die than live away from his family. The final part of the general strain theory is
the presentation of negative stimuli. The presentation of negative stimuli causes strain and negative
feelings to be experienced. Negative stimuli could be considered anything from the realization of

As many family members including grandma and grandpa, reach the age of retirement, her legal
status and annual income will play a role in determining whether or not she ll be able to qualify for
the 401K retirement plan that offers the most benefits. This has become the case for millions of
working Americans in modern time as qualifications increase the accessibility to these benefits has
diminished. Today, there are far more people working than previous years as unemployment rates

Passing the Retirement and Tax Reform would only hurt the economical situation severely.
According to Warren S. Hersch in the article Message to Congress: Leave our products alone ,
he states that, This reform would not only hurt the U.S Economy by costing it about $583
billion dollars. A few of the major concerns today that people still have include the controversy
between whether or not members of Congress are against the idea of passing this act and why
Congress continues to push away the idea of passing this act from the NAIFA. The NAIFA is
working to pass a reform that only applies to a specific portion of America and would result in an
economic blunder. If the government is already so in debt, needful of tax money, where would
they get the money to fund for all of this? Instead of causing financial trouble for some people as a
nation, the government should focus on coming together and employing minorities. By doing so,
this would allow the NAIFA to focus on constructing a new plan and hopefully finding a solution to
work towards the debt

The Hidden Characteristics Of The Renaissance
The Baroque style is the product of the obsession with perfection from the Renaissance and the
strangeness of the Mannerists. These two periods combine with each other and what you get is the
Baroque. The Renaissance had hidden meanings and complex theologies hidden in their paintings.
The Baroque simplified that formula and made art more accessible to people, no hidden meanings
and no hidden symbols. Not only did it have this but the Baroquejust did not simply tell a story but
a moment in time from that story. This moment in time technique not only allowed for some
showmanship in skill but allowed the viewer to take part of the moment with usually and empty
space for the viewer. Because of this does the viewer remain just that, a viewer or do we become
part narrative? This interaction between the viewer and the art is no longer like the outside and
miniscule feeling one gets from looking at the perfection of Renaissance masters. And it is
definitely not like the strange exchange and confusion that comes from the harsh mannerists. But
rather, the Baroque offers the viewer a space in the scene, an interaction. It is often warm and
inviting when appropriate and allows even uneducated people to understand what is going on. The
Baroque has more of a human quality than a divine one. The use of spot lighting by certain artists
such as Caravaggioand his followers allow the story to become the most important and the
interaction between the viewer and the art becomes a story of its

Hodgkin s Disease Research Paper
Risk Factors Scientists have found a number of risk factors that may influence the probability of
someone getting Hodgkin s disease, but it is still not clear how these factors increase the risk (4).
For example, some researchers think that infections with the Epstein Barr virus may sometimes
cause damage to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in the B lymphocytes, which leads to the
creation of Reed Sternberg cells (4). DNA is the set of instructions sent to the genes that dictates
cell functions. Some genes are responsible for controlling when cells grow, divide, and die (4).

Advantages Of Exercise Machines
When it comes to training and working out in the gym, we all have our own personal favourite
exercises and/or pieces of equipment for training. There are some people out there that
absolutely adore treadmills and pieces of cardio equipment, whilst there are others that can t
stand them. Some people like dumbbells, some like barbells, some like chest press machines,
some like leg press machines, the list can go on and on. If you really want to start an argument
and watch people get especially heated however, get a group of fitness enthusiasts together, and
ask them whether free weights are better than isolation machines. Some people will swear that
free weights and free weight exercises are the best, whilst others will be adamant that gym
isolation machines are the more beneficial of the two. So, if one set of people is telling you one

Play, By Marc Leblanc
When describing the characteristics of play, Huizinga (1995) pointed out that engaging in the
activity of play is not essential, yet engaging in the act of play is a voluntary activity. It is an
activity that can start and stop at any time and often carried out during leisure time. He also
mentioned that playonly gets urgent when the enjoyment of play becomes a need. Thus, playing is
enjoyable.
Games are compelling because it provides players several uses such as allowing players to pass
time, to procrastinate, to cheer oneself up or to play just for enjoyment (Phillips et al. 1995). As an
entertainment source, games allow people to enter a world of fantasy and escape the boredom of

goals that adds up to the bigger objective in the game. Goals could be in numerical form such as

there are games that have no explicit winning conditions. These are usually sand box games like
Grand Theft Auto V or simulation games like The Sims series, whereby players have a wide

The main film style in Tootsie is seeing TV on TV. Since much of the film setting is the recording
of the soap opera it is shot sometimes where the audience is seeing what is going on through a
screen on TV or its shot as though you are watching the soap opera as the soap opera and not as
part of the movie.
Compared to later films with men dressing as women for some purpose or another Tootsie set the
trend. Like Mrs. Doubtfire a man dresses as a woman for a reason. This creates humor as well as
sympathy in some ways that the man must go that far to achieve what he is after.
I found the Tootsie to be a very entertaining film. Besides the fact that it was funny to see what he
had to go through to appear as a woman but as the woman she was very outspoken. On the show
he took everyone by surprise because it was a soft spoken older woman speaking her mind that
stood up to everyone.
I think this film was great because first of all it was genuinely funny. Second, the film takes a man
that discovers that being a woman has made him a better man. Finally

According To Ellis s Preface, Explain What Is So...
Honors US History I: Summer Reading Assignment Chapter Summary Questions Preface: The
Generation 1. According to Ellis s preface, explain what is so phenomenal about the founding of
the United States? One reason why the founding of the US is so phenomenal is because the
founding fathers were able to create a nation with a government, out of people who were against
any type of political power (due to all previous corrupted rulers). There were also many people
who were against the idea of a band of national advocates. (Ellis 9). People divided and scattered
came together as a nation which is a miracle in itself. 2. Analyze what the author calls the paradox

4. Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to build a
nation? In your opinion, which problem was most pressing? Explain. One problem was that no man
had ever created a republican government with a country as large as the US; so no higher
authorities had faith in the creation of this republican nation. Another apparent obstacle was that the
legacy of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment
of governmental authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority.
Also, the states in the new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together
(other than wars). Lastly, there were many black peoples growing rapidly amongst racist whites.
In my opinion, the contradiction between the legacy of the Revolution and building a nation with
an authority strikes as the most pressing because the people the people as a whole become angry
and stubborn when something they have fought/are fighting for is crushed. Chapter 1: The Duel 5.
According to Ellis s explanation, why did Hamilton and Burr duel in the first place? Burr
challenged Hamilton to a duel, and Hamilton accepted it with all his pride and honor. Burr was
justified in challenging Hamilton because of their many differences in politics and character. One

Interactive Writing Process Analysis
It has come to my understanding that you have mixed feelings about allowing interactive writing in
the classroom. I m going to pose a few questions for you to think about. What single teaching
technique can be used to aid in the development of phonological skills and help children attribute
meaning to print? How can teachers create a lesson that permits whole group instruction and
individual attention at the same time? How can the teacher practice skills without losing the
engagement of the class? How can learning to read and write be enjoyable for students? The answer
to these questions is interactive writing. Let s first start off with some background information on
just what interactive writing is, its purpose and some uses of... Show more content on

The first step in the interactive writing process is to provide active learning experiences. Because
students share countless mutual experiences at school, there s a lot to choose from to write about
during interactive writing. Reading and responding to a story the teacher has read is another way to
share a learning experience. Lastly, allowing students to share personal experiences from their home
life and community initiates a writing experience. Whatever way a teacher decides to start a writing
experience, it s imperative that students are engaged in the process and that the teacher is pulling
from students prior knowledge of an experience they shared together. Establishing the topic comes
next in the interactive writing process. The topic for the interactive writing activity comes by way
of the students joint common experience. Teachers facilitate a discussion with students around their
shared experience as they form sentences they will later put on paper. During this time, the teacher
emboldens students to express themselves in ways that implicitly capture their experience.
Composing the text, or negotiating, follows establishing the topic in the interactive writing
experience. During this step, the teachers and students decide how they will say what they want to
write. The wording and phrasing is a coconstructuve effort between the teacher and students. As
always, the teacher facilitates a discussion to develop a story or a sentence. Once a collective
decision is made, the teacher has the students repeat what they will write numerous times before
beginning to write. This is done so the students remember the sentences and can predict the
following word when it comes time to write. Writing the text, or constructing, is the fourth step of
the interactive writing process. While writing, the teacher and

The Death Of Witchcraft By Richard Godbeer Essay
Ultio, is the Latin word for Revenge, which the witchcraft craze of the 1800 s was indirectly a
result of. Richard Godbeer argues that women and men, alike, were accused of witchcraft by
vengeful neighbors. These vengeful acts, however, were a direct result of tensions in and around
the colonies. In a new land faced by harsh weather, disease, and war with neighboring Native
American tribes, many colonists needed an escape, something they could easily control and defeat.
Accusing neighbors of witchcraft, was not only an act of revenge, but a way for colonists to band
together against a common enemy they could destroy. They essentially created a substitute for their
fears and hatred.
Connecticut had already begun to face a renewal of Indian attacks, and dissention between Quakers
and Anglicans, as Stamford begin to experience witch accusations. Goodbeer mentions, in his
Afterword, that the rhetoric used to describe increasing tensions caused by Indian attacks and
religious conflicts was similar to what was used to describe witches. Portraying them as being
worshipers of Satan. In small communities, like those of the Puritans in the colonies, congressional
members were expected to be friendly, kind and generous at all times. Any deviation from this
norm resulted in aggravated neighbors who would then proceed to call that person a witch. Puritans
were not particularly bothered by those who were healers, or practiced the occults, but rather were
bothered by those who did them

Minimum Wage Impact
The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the
United States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then,
this economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and
employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum
wage. Moreover, literature researchers have also analyzed the impact of the minimum wageon the
economy on social, economic, and professional aspects. Therefore, the following literature reviews
will discuss these aspects which are fast food unionization, the grocery stores wage distribution,
low wage work in five European countries and the USA, minimum wages reduce employment
possibilities, inequality trends, the consequences of doubling the minimum wage, employment
effects of minimum and subminimum wages, certifying voluntary living wage employers,
minimum wage and Mexican and Central American influx, and collective bargaining. First, the
fast food industry is one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact,
the fast food workers demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage
for workers is $8.94 and this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving
proper break times, and missing hours from the paychecks. Additionally, low wages bring down
collective action among the workers, the workers hours are never guaranteed and are sent

With reference to the source, outline two features of the UK constitution (5 marks)
One feature would be that the UK constitution is uncodified which is a unwritten document where
as in the majority of countries there is a codified constitution which is a single document an
example of this would be the American constitution, drafted around 200 years ago, which is written
down on a piece of paper and lays down the rights of American citizens and also the powers of her
government. Another feature would be that the UK constitution derives from a number of sources
one of them being statute law, law passed by government. The fact that our constitution is unwritten
means that there is no system of formal checks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is strength as taking time to evolve is seen as a good aspect because there were no drastic
changes, which enabled a steady and stable transition into more modern times. For example in
the UK, the power of the monarch has decreased over time and is now seen as more ceremonial
and a figurehead. The royal prerogative in the past was able to declare war, however nowadays
parliament make powerful decisions like this one. This changed because society wanted the
views and opinions of everyone to be heard and not the high class people and the monarch as
then the law would be bias and not satisfy everyone. This shows how it has adapted to fit the
needs of society. On the other hand some may same that the UK constitution is out dated and not
suitable for today. For example the Bill of Rights was established in 1689 and still is valid today,
this isn t good as it gives government absolute power, which reveals that the UK has an elective
dictatorship which removes some say from the citizens, this completely contradicts the idea of
having an uncodified constitution.
It is very easy to change the UK constitution because it is flexible, this can be done through an Act
of Parliament e.g. a statute. Where as the US constitution is very rigid and hard to change, this is
changed by higher law. Having a flexible

Enzyme Catalysis And Enzyme Inhibition Essay
Enzyme catalysis and enzyme inhibition are two essential biological mechanisms of organisms. In
this experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP
substrate in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the
rates of the reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then,
the MBP AP assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the
kinetic constants of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes.
Results of the experiment show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded
expected kinetic constants according to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced
kinetics constants that did not resemble a competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the
inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor.
Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed
in a reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to
digest a hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the
substrate binds to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment.
For a specific enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper
manner and produce a functional ES complex. The substrate must have a size, shape, and polarity
compatible with

Career Research Paper Mechanics
Do you love fixing objects that people use daily? I chose mechanics because I have always
found it fun fixing cars that are not running right. It is just the feeling of fixing an object that a
person counts on every day. It feels good, in the sense that I used what I do best to help someone
else. This paper will explore the job description, requirements and salary expectations for
mechanics. First, being a mechanic takes focus. Occupational Outlook Handbook shares, one of
the first steps in a mechanic s handbook is to identify problems (OCO). Mechanics are not just
fixing cars all day. It is full of testing parts, using charts and building experience. A mechanic does
not just go into the shop and immediately know what the problem is. In fact,... Show more content

According to salary.com, some mechanics make as low as fifty nine thousand six hundred
thirty three dollars a year (Salary). While other mechanics can make up to sixty nine thousand
five hundred forty two dollars a year. You will need to be experienced before you can be
qualified. To become qualified, you will need one year of on the job experience. You also have
to complete one year of schooling to become qualified. There is not much shift differential.
Mechanics is a full time job, and you will have to often work overtime. Something to consider is
the injury rate. Mechanics has a higher injury rate than any other occupation. Another thing to
consider is the hazardous things you will encounter. Such as radiator fluid and oil. All of these
things can affect your salary for the good or for the bad. To sum up, it is all about the salary and
the things that can affect how you make it. In conclusion, this paper explored the job
description, requirements and salary expectation for mechanics. This career is a good fit for me
because I love to build and fix things. This is also a career where I can continue to grow throughout
the career. This is also what I have always wanted to do. I feel this career is a good fit for anyone
who wants to be able to grow in the workplace. So I am going to ask you again. Do you love fixing

There is more flexibility for manipulation of the accounting figures. The authors also points out that
this flexibility for manipulation should not be underestimated citing past loans and goodwill

The article also finds after discussing the arguments for and against Historical Cost Accounting that
is could not be a good replacement for FVA and HCA has problems more severe than the problems
with FVA.
The article concludes that the debate about FVA is full of arguments that do not hold up to further
scrutiny and need more economic analysis. The authors concludes that in their view, it is better to
design prudential regulation that accepts FVA as a starting point but sets explicit counter cyclical
capital requirements.
The article concludes that trade off between transparency and financial stability as well as the
interactions between accounting and prudential regulations needs further analysis and suggest areas
for further research which includes whether FVA did in fact contribute to the financial crisis
through contagion effects, and the interactions between FVA and other important elements of the
institutional framework.
The articles also suggests the study should be done to find out the what role HCA may have
played for the banking crisis and the role of, off balance sheet vehicles and retained positions

A Study Area Is The Region Of The U.s. Lake
A study area is the region of the U.S. Lake States, including Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In
the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the
lands are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural
resource extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). However,
such industries are recently weakened by globalization and rising policies on protection of natural
resources. Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only
protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as
important alternatives for local economic growth. Thus, an investigation of the relative impacts of
economic structures on income distributioncan broaden our understanding of the role of each
economic industry in the distributional aspects of gateway communities.
There is no definitive way to define the gateway communities. In this study, I partly follow a
method for Sphere of Influence of gateway communities suggested by the M3West study (Hester,
2013). He used a travel distance that is measured by predefined buffer distance for recreational
commuting from gateway communities to public lands. Thus, I first collect public land data (see
figure 1). Then, I use a sensitivity analysis to select an appropriate travel distance for recreational
commuting based on 5, 10, and 15 mile buffer. From

The most compelling evidence of this is in Pokemon Red/Blue where as you enter Lavender

This actually caused a lot of controversy in the media in Japan with rumors of children committing

The European Exploration Of America
The discovery of America opened up the door for many people to find a new home and also a
new identity. The European explorers of the late 15th and 16th centuries did not discover
America; the native people had already lived and flourished there for many years. The European
exploration of America is notable because it is the start of the mentality among Americans the
fuels the need to travel from home in order to find oneself. Since the beginning, the settlers in
America have been people who left home to find a new life where they could live successful
lives. While this is a theme in all types of literature, it is one that is especially prevalent in
American literature because the settlers were an entire people who left their home in search of
something better. Some of those people left to find themselves in their religion or to find new ways
to make money, but all in all the discovery of America was also the discovery of a new people. The
sensation of discovery fueled the early explorers, the settlers, the revolutionaries, the
transcendentalists, and American people to this day. The beginning of this trend in American
literature was when the first Europeans found the Americas.
Christopher Columbus is regarded as the man who discovered America, when is reality he only
discovered the Caribbean. Author and Professor Gerald Vizenor believes the appropriate this to say
is that Columbus found the Americas because the land mass already had many people living on it

The Crucial Role Of Feminism In Mainstream Media
The mainstream media, such as national news broadcasting stations, magazines, and social media
sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, play a crucial role in the promotion and
encouragement of feminism. According to Andy Zeisler in a Quick Take article in Time magazine,
Feminism, for better and for worse, has become trendy, (Zeisler np). According to the beliefs
expressed in an article by Debra Baker in the NWSA Journal, media has mistreated feminism. She

By definition in the Meriam Webster Dictionary, equality means, the quality or state of being
equal or of the same measure, quantity, amount, or number as another, ( Equality np). On the
other hand, equity is defined as, justice according to natural law or right; specifically: freedom
from bias or favoritism; dealing fairly and equally with all concerned, ( Equity np). Most
feminists, without even realizing their error, are fighting for equity instead of fighting for
equality. With reference to the SGBA e Learning Resource: Rising to the Challenge, we can
understand a direct distinction between equality and equity. Equity, as we have seen, involves
trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy full, healthy lives, (Clow np). From
context, the term equity should be associated with giving people what they need for a happy
lifestyle. Equality, in contrast, aims to ensure that everyone gets the same things in order to enjoy
full, healthy lives. Like equity, equality aims to promote fairness and justice, but it can only work
if everyone starts from the same place and needs the same things, (Clow np). It is impossible to
provide everyone in the world, male and female, the same circumstances. This has become a
challenge for those who associate themselves with finding equality for all. It is physical impossible
because we are born in different circumstances, with incomparable talents and strengths. Barbara
Clow, Yvonne Hanson, and Jennifer Bernier, authors of the module Distinguish between Equality
and Equity, prove an important point as they contrast equality and equity. They use an analogy of
the failure of providing equality to competitors in a race at a track meet. The concept of equality
would have us treat the runners in exactly the same way, ensuring that they all start at the same
place on the track. But we know that runners in the inside

The Two Franks and Their Architecture Essay
Different architects have different styles because they are trying to get at different things.
Architecture is not just about making something beautiful anymore, it is about trying to get across
a set of ideas about how we inhabit space. Two of the most famous architects of the twentieth
century, one from each side, the early part and the later part up until today each designed a
museum with money donated by the Guggenheim foundation. One of these is in New York City, it

This is a very functional approach. I am only going to talk about the outside of Frank Geary s
museum because I have never been there, and I have only seen pictures on the internet. This
building is surprisingly attractive because the other building that we saw in class of his, his
house in Santa Monica, had a great deal of ugliness, to use an official term. His house in Santa
Monica was supposed to look unfinished, with an emphasis on the materials used in
construction. This building, however, looks as if it has been wrapped in silver. It looks very
futuristic, and angular, so it could be functional as a museum as a museum because people will
know it holds modern art. I like the way that it catches reflections, almost mirroring the
surrounding buildings. So, in these two examples we see very different approaches to
architecture. One has an impressive inside and the other one has an appealing outside. Also, both
seem to be departures for the architects from their normal modes Wright s building doesn t blend
in with nature, and Geary s doesn t look deconstructed into small parts. Now if only they could has
worked together on one project, then we would have a museum that would be perfect inside and
out. The Falling Water House that was built by Frank Lloyd Wright is an embodiment of organic
architecture. It has a stone face that was the same tonal feeling of the rock that surrounds the
building. There is a feeling that is inspired in the

Streetcar Named Desire was published just after World War II. When the play came out, the country
had just emerged from the war after struggling through the Great Depression of the 1930 s, and

In a tragedy, the protagonist confronts failure, usually through fate or outside circumstances. In
this play, Blanche is the protagonist and Stanley is her antagonist who causes her tragic end or

which arises because of her loneliness which she endures after her husband s tragic death, her
lack of self awareness, low self esteem, and that she has sold herself through dependence on men

Positive And Negative Effects On Social Media
The Oxford dictionary defines privacy as the state or condition of being free from being
observed or disturbed by other people (2017). It should not come as a surprise that websites
designed to share pictures, ideas, and what is for dinner, leave individuals feeling that their
privacy has been invaded. It is also not surprising that some people are oblivious to the effects of
what they post online. It is safe to say the loss of privacy can be self imposed for societies need
to collaborate and socialized is the reason social media sites were created in the first place. Jeff
Jarvis tells the need for publicness or the need to be public is strong upon our society today
(Berkman, 2012). In today s technology age, when everything can be found in just a matter of
clicks, it is easy to overshare. Yet the information that is published or posted on social media
sites is not the only information that is gathered and stored. Many social media sites such as
Facebook, collect data behind the scenes and sell it to marketing firms and other data collection
firms. Every like or when signing into other sites using Facebook credentials, something new is
learned about the user. Infringement of privacy, whether self imposed or not, can have both
positive and negative effects on an individual in a social media environment. There is enormous

Gosnold, Juan Ponce de Leon, and the pilgrims. John Smith colonized James towne in 1670,
Henry Hudson explored Northern Canada in 1610, Robert La Salle explored canada in 1666
/ explored the ohio region in 1669, and the Pilgrims left for massachusetts in search of religious
freedom in 1620. The Colonists migrated to New England, the southern state of America,
Canada, and the Caribbean/ Central South America. In the early 1600 s wealthy english
merchants began to pool their resources to form joint stock companies with America called the
London Virginia Company which was looking for gold. After the colonists emigrated to other
places, more and more europeans started to emigrate. Its first years were extremely difficult,
with very high death rates from disease and starvation, wars with local Indians, and little gold.
The colony survived and flourished by turning to tobacco as a cash crop. Many Jamestown
settlers who moved from Europe were desperate men, although they came from elite families,
they were younger sons who would not inherit their father s estates. In 1609, a ship bound for
Jamestown foundered in a storm and landed on Bermuda. The admiral of the ship, George
Somers, claimed the island for the English crown. The English also began to colonize small
islands in the Caribbean, an incursion into the Spanish American empire. These was about 21,000
african american people brought to the 13 colonies from 1621 1700. In the 17th century, a group
of British colonies had taken over the east coast and the states taken over were called as the 13

The Pros And Cons Of Organ Donation
At the age of two, a young boy named Jason became seriously ill from a heart condition. With the
many hospital visits and meetings with doctors, Jason s family knew he would need a new
heart, but they also knew it would not be easy to attain. After being on the transplant waiting list
for more than a year, Jason finally received a heart at the age of five. Jason s parents were
ecstatic stating, The new heart not only gave our son a chance to live, it changed our lives forever
(OneLegacy, 2017). With the help of a giving donor, Jason was given a second chance at life,
something many individuals in his situation do not get. The gap between organs needed and organs
being donated is alarmingly huge in today s society. Organ donationis a big issue and there is not
just one way to solve it. To some, the problem can be solved by simply thinking morally and
choosing to help those around you. To others, the problem lies within the care from medical staff.
In order to get these issues across, Snyder, Van Assche et al., and Kluge, authors of pieces within
the ethical discipline use anecdotal evidenceto persuade an audience to think morally about organ
donation. In contrast, Berntzen BjГёrke and Jacoby et al., authors of articles within the psychology
discipline, use testimonial evidence to express to the audience that an issue with the organ donation
process comes from the treatment of patients from medical staff. Both disciplines acknowledge
organ donation as an issue, but using

Paper On Infertility
Infertility
Infertility is a well known issue in today s society. Most women will not be able to conceive a
child in their life time due to infertility challenges. About 10 percent of women in the United
States ages 15 to 44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (Davis, 2013). Men with low sperm counts and
medical issues also help contribute to the increased percentage of infertility cases. Individuals are
putting off having children so they can be in a better financial or career situation but in doing so;
they risk their peak of fertility (White, 2015). Age, health issues, stress, and poor diets are all
contributing factors and should be taken into consideration ... Show more content on

Maintaining a healthy body decreases our risk of not only becoming infertile but also decreases
our chance of contracting a disease or an infection. Having to consider infertility options such as
IVF or a surrogate may be hard for couples to come to terms with, but the options are out there
and medical practices are improving these options every day. One may feel as if they are being
targeted by The Lord when complications arise but it s with the power of prayer that we move
past this. Involving The Lord in every life altering decision should be our number one priority.
He has a plan for us but He also gave us free will to make our own decisions. We must choose to
let go of the negative and allow the Holy Spirit to change us. Doubt and unbelief will only keep
us from receiving this kind of healing. Keeping faith and praying everyday will show The Lord
how much we trust in Him to bring a child into our

The Importance Of Creationism In Schools
Creationism does not explain how the earth was created, therefore it should not be taught as a
science and should not be taught in schools. My thesis is important, because schools are trying to
stop teaching evolution because they believe it is not the way life on earth started. The teaching
of evolution in schools is important, because it teaches students the correct reason for how life on
earth started. The articles that I collected for my research, where academic journals from the
library data base and had a stand point towards science. My paper will give the reader a broader
view point on why creationismshould not be taught in schools and how evolutionshould remain in
schools.
Creationism has been a controversial topic in our school systems and schools in some states are
fighting to have it taught instead of evolution as a science. Creationism is the belief that all living
organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how
the earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore
creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. The teachers are
the people that have to deal with this topic the most because of all the pressure they get from school
administrators, parents and the community. Some science teachers have been told not to teach
about evolution, but they did it nevertheless. One of the most famous cases was the

The Hillsborough Stadium Disaster
Disasters come in many shapes and sizes. While many are unavoidable, such as natural disasters,
disasters with a largely human element can be prevented. While disasters often seem unpredictable,
the clues are often there in front of us so long as we have the ability to recognize them and the
ability to do something about them. This analysis explores the advantage an ergonomic approach
provides in uncovering these clues and how that approach can provide creative solutions that
benefit both the individual component and overall system function symbiotically.
To illustrate these points this exploration utilizes the context of the Hillsborough stadium disaster.
This disaster involved the crushing deaths of 96 individuals at a football game at Hillsborough
stadium in 1989 (Taylor, 1989). There are many easily identifiable factors that contributed to this
disaster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these characteristics fall under the guise of an emergent property of a system. An emergent
property is defined as ... conjoint actions [that] cannot be characterised by the sum of any individual
causes (Johnson, 2006). An alternative way to understand emergent properties is that they are
properties that would not exist in singularity, but only exist when in the right context, interacting
with one or multiple elements of the system.
An emergent property to the Hillsborough system is a basic as a crowd. A crowd does not exist
on its own, but rather comes to exist when it is comprised of many types of stakeholders
(spectators, stewards, police, and more) in the context of a specific space (the stadium). An
ergonomist is clearly not required to identify a crowd as being a component of the system, but an
ergonomic approach can reveal the properties of that crowd and how it impacts the

Characteristics Of Saint Teresa Of Avila
Saint Teresa of Avila
1.a Three Characteristics
1. Saint Teresa of Avila was born on the 28th of march in 1515. She lived in Avila, Gotarrendura
which was a small town in Spain. It was very poor with a low population. She grew up in the 1500
s which was a poor time in the world and Teresa s parents couldn t afford a good lifestyle for her.
2. Around less then 20 years when she was born Christopher Columbus opened the Western
Hemisphere to European colonisation, then two years after she was born Martin Luther started a
Protestant Reformation. There was a lot of change going on in the world but Teresa stayed peaceful
and undisturbed.
3. Her father was very religious and very strict. He told Teresa never to lie and that made Teresa
always scared that she was going to do something wrong. This made her life difficult for her

a life of prayer. She also set up convents and many women with no place to live and nuns who
found it hard to pray would go to them, which inspired them to follow a life of prayer.
1.D How faith was important to her
Faith was important to Saint Teresa because she never gave up. When she was growing up she
went in and out of loving her religious life, but also sinning because she was caught up with
friends and popularity. She always found her way back to her religious life. When she became sick

Wrongful Convictions
Cornelius Dupree Jr.: A Case of Wrongful Conviction.

April 2011
Every year in the United States of America, millions of crimes are committed that violate and harm
the individual rights, properties, and freedoms that are not only guaranteed to American citizens of
this country, but also naturally inherent to mankind as whole. Based on the founding principles of
our country, which are derived from the Constitution of these United States, justice is dealt
accordingly to the perpetrators of these crimes. While this justice is usually fair, due to certain
rights given to those who may be charged with crimes, sometimes an error is made. A simple

The 26 year old woman, on the other hand, had pointed them out and identified them as the
perpetrators. Dupree was subsequently charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one
count of rape, and put on trial. During litigation, both victims had testified that Dupree was one of
the men who carjacked them in November. Disregarding the fact that the two defendants were not
originally noticed in police lineups by the male victim, and despite the woman s repeated mixing
up of the two defendants identities in court, the jury somehow thought the defense of mistaken
identity was not possible, and thus both men were found guilty of aggravated robbery. The jury
decided to not indict Dupree on charges of abduction or rape because they had felt any further
convictions would not have been very significant; he was already given a sentence of 75 years in
prison. After the initial trial, Dupree s attempts of appealing the decision were rejected three times,
because he would not admit to being a sex offender. Throughout his time in incarceration, Dupree
maintained his innocence; even turning down two opportunities for early parole, because he would
not admit guilt and confess to a crime he did not commit. In 2006, his case was picked up by The
Texas Innocence Project, and by July of 2007, the Innocent Project team requested permission from
the state of Texas to test for DNA evidence from pubic

Basketball Identity
What is an identity, an interest or a talent that defines me in an essential way? As a little kid who
s only thought was to have fun, all I cared about at first was playing video games and watching
cartoons, but that wasn t my interest as it became boring to me. Needing something new in my
life, one day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the TV, I
said sure, so they turned on the TV and put on a documentary. At first, I was disinterested and
wanted to go back to my usual habits, but I stayed and watched, I realized that the documentary
contained the answer to my question and that answer was basketball as it became an identity
that defined me in an essential way because it changed how I felt, how I thought, and how I
lived. Out of all the things in the world, basketball became my guidance, it spoke to me in a way
where it wasn t just an interest, but a window of discovering who I am, what I love, and what I
want to become. In that window of time I would watch every basketball gameand practice my skills
as a player. Watching NBA players give their hearts out to the game of basketball brought me joy as
well as the confidence and determination to playand improve my skills to be just like them. My
favorite player was Kobe Bryant because he would play every game at the highest level he could
play at and he had a killer work ethic that a person would only dream of having. I would set an

Abstract
This paper will examine five emerging trends associated with the future of higher education. Within
the United States higher education has become commercialized. Obtaining a college degree has
been marketed as a necessity for anyone seeking a successful future. The increased demand results
in increased costs, both for the institution and the student. University administrators recognize the
increased demand for a college education and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third category includes private for profit institutions that offer predominately on line course
instruction. No matter what category the institution falls under, various trends are impacting higher
education and threaten to redefine the traditional mission. What follows is a discussion of five such
trends and an examination of the potential impact upon students, faculty, staff, parents and the
institutions.
The Cost of Higher Education The cost of higher education is on the rise. Within the United States,
nearly every state has reduced funding to higher education. As a result, institutions are challenged
with replacing the lost revenue and in most cases this is accomplished by increasing tuition. In
addition the cost of benefits for faculty and staff is increasing. Dew (2012) found that as health care
costs increase and both private and state sponsored pension funds decrease, institutions are
increasingly dipping into their own revenues to support benefit packages. In another effort to
reduce costs, universities continue to reduce the number of full time faculty and replace them with
adjunct faculty and graduate assistants both of which are exempt from benefits. As tenured faculty
members retire, universities elect to fill the position with part time faculty in lieu of high salaried
tenured professors. Increased costs have a cascading effect on other initiatives as well. State budget
cuts threaten research universities by reducing the funds

The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston Essay
In the novel The Woman Warrior Maxine Hong Kingston uses ghosts to represent a battle
between American and Chinese cultures. The two cultures have different views of what a ghost
is. The Chinese believe the ghost spirits may be of people dead or alive. Chinese culture
recognizes foreigners and unfamiliar people as ghosts because, like American ghosts, they are
mysterious creatures of the unknown. Americans view ghosts as spirits of the dead that either help
or haunt people. American ghosts may or may not be real. There spirits are there but physical
appearance is a mystery. Chinese culture has many interpretations ghosts. One way they are seen as

This quote shows how the Chinese viewed Americans as ghosts. This quote shows how even the
husband, a Chinese man, could look like a ghost. Once he was Americanized he easily blended in
with all of the other Americans. The people look unfamiliar and are mysterious and have an
unknown culture. In the poem Hunger , written by Lee Samantha Chang, the author shows how
lost the Chinese characters feel in an American setting. Min, a Chinese woman who is stuck in
the alien setting of America, tells one of her experiences: Now I sat alone, I was overtaken by
fear. I longed to be back home in Brooklyn, curled up in Tian s big chair, with a Chinese story
book in my hand. (Hunger) Min was anxious because she was in a new environment and was
surrounded by what Kingston would call ghosts. And youВ—and eye not an IВ—/are walking
through it. (Moon and Outgrass lines 6 7) In this line from the poem, Moon and Outgrass shows
how the Chinese were viewed by the American ghosts . As part of her culture, Maxine s mother
tells her stories about ghosts giving her false impressions like when she was telling Maxine, Once
upon a time the world was so thick with ghosts, I could hardly breathe; I could hardly walk,
limping my way around the White Ghosts and their cars. There were Black Ghosts too, but they
were open eyed and full of laughter, more distinct than White Ghosts. (Kingston 97) Leaving

Character Analysis Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front is a 1929 novel written by Erich Remarque. All Quiet on the
Western Front mainly focusses on a few main characters: Paul Bäumer is a German soldier
fighting down in the trenches during World War I. He is also the main character and narrator of
the novel. Stanislaus Katczinsky is Paul s best friend in the army and is known as Kat . The novel
begins with Paul and his friends going to war. After only two weeks of fighting, there are only 80
out of the 150 men still alive.
As the main character and the narrator, Paul is the centre figure in the novel. Through the novel,
his personality is different to how he normally would be because of the way the war forces him to
behave. Before the war, Paul was a very different person to how he is during the war. Before the
war, Paul was a caring and sensitive man. He loved his family and would also write poetry. But
now, like many of the other soldiers, he quickly learns to turn off his mind and to hide his
feelings. He keeps his emotions hidden to keep his sanity and to survive. He is no longer able to
mourn the dead.
Paul joined the war as a young man of only nineteen years old after some intensive urging from
the schoolmaster Kantorek. Paul and many of his friends from school signed up to the army
voluntarily after they listened to the inspiring speeches that was made by their teacher, Kantorek.
Kantorek was a fiercely patriotic man and he convinced many of Paul s friends to enlist to prove

  • 2. My Birthday Monologue Hey, Eva, John s voice sings down my phone. Do you have plans tonight? Just having a quiet night in. Since Alice is at work, I get the remote all to myself. A little bird told me it was your birthday yesterday, so Patsy and I would like to take you to the movies. A heavy sigh escapes my lips as I recall Patsy s discontentment over my secrecy for my birthday. Reluctantly, I say, Okay, I ll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next to that, a sleek, orange Camaro. Maybe this is a muscle car convention? Further along the line, my feet pause as my eyes gawk at the beautiful, Vista blue Shelby Mustangwith white stripes, a car I have admired on several occasions now. I pull my scarf higher to bury my face from the chill while stuffing my gloved hands into my jacket pockets. The wind has intensified since leaving the apartment and now howls around my ears, tousling my hair. Yet I stand, staring at the car nevertheless. Why would Angelo be in this part of the town? Before retrieving my phone, I remove my glove and call Alice, who answers after three rings. Hey, babe, what s up? I drag my hair from my face while retaining my gaze on the Shelby. I m heading down to the cinema to meet Patsy and John. The clattering of glasses in the background and the sound of people talking filters through the phone. Are you at a bar or something? Yes, the bar near my restaurant. Rachael s having boyfriend problems and asked me to help her out. Not sure what I can do for her though, but she needs my support I guess. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Party Exited the Courtyard Minister Mike s party included Skylar, Ethan, Mr Pisher and a meager handful of the remaining students each of whom tolerated the midday sun as they walked single file around the massive Palace structure. The once magnificent lush grounds had turned into withering vegetation. Water was scarce. The new Government could not afford this luxurious expensive. Those who lived in the region did not know why the devoted groundskeepers had recently abandoned their post. Soon, it would become evident as Minister Mike s party continued around Egyptian style Palace. The Babylon summer Palace was shaped in a U design, so when Minister Mike saw the balcony above the first wing; he noticed Giselle by herself clutching the railing. She looked nauseated. He wanted to say something. However, Mike felt it best to leave her alone. Mike did not see Daniel ducking behind the balcony French door. The Minister s party rounded the Palace. There they strolled into the three sided courtyard. Marble terraced steps leaded from an Olympic size swimming pool to the main residence level. The scale of the Saddam s Babylon Palace would rival those in Europe; mounted above the Babylon ruins, it was easy to imagine the grand parties hosted poolside. Now a drained pool sat eroding with desert debris. The diving board was scattered from its mountings. It gave an eerie appearance to the dismal Palace grounds. Skylar ascended the steps into the pool, and turn back to the Minister. She mimicked a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did Lenin Gain Power The first two leaders of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin had very different methods in commanding their country. Differences can be seen in the way they achieved their political power and how they dealt with their political opponents. Similarities can be seen in the way that these men were unwilling to share their power. Vladimir Leninachieved his political power by rallying fellow Bolsheviks to seize government installations and storm the capital. The plan made Lenin the visible figurehead of the Bolsheviks and the new government that was put into place. While Lenin overtly planned his seizure of power, Joseph Stalinwas able to achieve his power behind the scenes. Stalin used position as general secretary of the... Of the delegates who attended the National Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) in 1934, fully 70 percent had been executed by the time of the National Congress in 1939 (pg. 90). Through this purge, Stalin solidified his control over the communist party and the country. Lenin differed by allowing his Bolshevik opponents to remain in their posts, but was mindful of their activities. He took action to prevent these opponents from ousting him form power. This action can be seen when Lenin, weary of his opponents turning to the Romanov family for leadership had the entire family executed. A similar characteristic that both of these leaders shared was their refusal to share power. This can be seen in Stalin s accumulation of powers as the general secretary, which lead to his complete control of the country. Lenin also maintained this trait as he actively tried to subvert the leftist that had opposed the coup before it had occurred. I think that if Lenin had lived another twenty years that the country may have had a completely different government in place. Lenin was able to guide the party through the civil car that solidified his power in the new government, but he had a lot of opponents with differing views. I think it is possible that there could have been another coup to try to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Homeric Seafaring Surveying the Validity of Homeric Seafaring Ancient Greeks predominantly lived in on island archipelagos or on the coast of nearby mainland because mainland Greece is one of Europe s most mountainous countries, which complicates animal and crop husbandry. Correspondingly, seafaring has always been paramount in the Aegean, especially for the Greeks, due to ease of transportation, trade networks, and defensive needs. Mainland Greeks utilized seafaring to bring in necessities cheaper than they could produce them at home, and they saved time traveling by land, rather than trek the long way through the mountains. When living on islands, sea travel is a necessity to contact outsiders and participate in extensive trade. Even Greeks in Homer s epics appear to know the sea well (Mark 2005, 145). Despite Greek seafaring s prominence, archeological and textual evidence for seafaring in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Aegean is relatively sparse, with a near lack of physical boat remains. Filling in holes, such as with literary sources, in the timeline of Aegean seafaring provides a greater understanding of the development of Greek ships, as well as the cultural implications of the technology invoked. The most extensive textual source of this era s seafaring is Homer s epics, but they are epic poetry of the eighth or early seventh century BCE concerning Greece s heroic, mythical past. Homer s Iliad and Odyssey are set in the Bronze Age, yet include Iron Age elements (Mark 2005, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Similarities Between Englishment And Nationalism Explaining the concept of Caribbean identity has proven to be challenging because the Caribbean is considered to be a melting pot of various ethnic groups and culture. However, in the discourse of the concept of Caribbean identity, the terms Scottish Enlightenment and nationalism are pivotal to this discussion. Hence, the author of this paper will describe both terms and explain the similarities between both concepts. Scottish Enlightenment The Scottish Enlightenment is characterized as an upsurge of intellectual and scientific achievements during the 18th century in Scotland which emphasized reason and thought and the power of individuals to solve problems. According to Berry (2000) the Scottish Enlightenment refers to a self conscious movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also claimed that during the Enlightenment period there was growth in the area of literacy which generated many new ideologies and the opposition of the old regime. According to Scott and Marshall (2009) the Enlightenment thinkers purported that society was the natural state of civilization and that individuals are innately social and their capabilities were insignificant beyond a social framework. Nationalism shares this belief in regard to the concept of solidarity founded in the preindustrial period (Hutchinson Smith, 1994). Moreover, both the Scottish Enlightenment and nationalism contributed to national development and was seen in establishment of buildings and monuments (Hutchinson Smith, 1994). Furthermore, nationalism, similar to the Scottish Enlightenment contributed to nation building in the context of recognition and unification of the community by offering an evolutionary view of its society. Moreover, both nationalism and the Enlightenment altered the mind set of individuals especially in times of social unrest. The thinkers of the Enlightenment and the cultural nationalists were moral visionaries and were dedicated to social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gregory Vii s Foundations The challenge thrown out by Gregory VII forced the emperors to seek new foundations for their position. Gregory s great opponent, the emperor Henry IV, had still asserted the traditional rights of his father. His successors in the 12th century, Henry V (1106 25), Lothar II (1125 37), Frederick I Barbarossa (1152 90), and Henry VI (1190 97), shifted their ground. To counter the arguments of church lawyers they grasped the weapons provided by the revival of Roman law. A new and more exalted conception of the empire was the result. Best known was the addition by Frederick I Barbarossa, in 1157, of the word sacrum to the name of the empire, which then became the Sacrum Imperium (Holy Empire) as a counterbalance to the Sancta Ecclesia (Holy Church). Equally characteristic was the canonization of Charlemagne by Frederick s antipope Paschal III in 1165. In this way Frederick emphasized continuity with the Frankish past and asserted his rights as Charlemagne s successor. They derived, he argued, not from conferment by the popeor by the Roman people but from Frankish conquest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Against Pope Innocent III s claims to confer the imperial crown, imperial lawyers asserted that he who is chosen by the election of the princes alone is the true emperor, even before he has been confirmed by the pope. Nor is it surprising that, confronted with the universal claims of the papacy, the Hohenstaufen emperors asserted rights no less universal. Though in day to day politics, in their relations with the kings of France or of England, for example, there is no sign that they were seeking world dominion, nevertheless the new imperialism soon called forth protests from all sides from England and France, from Denmark and Hungary. • 8. Classical Management Theorists Frederick Taylor and Henri Fayol were both theorists of the classical management movement. The classical approach was the framework to what management is all about. Therefore it can be said that they laid the foundation for many theorists. Frederick Taylor was an important theorist of the early 20th century and he made many important contributions to management. He proposed the principles of scientific management which he believed would improve industrial efficiency. He believed management could be formulated as a discipline. Taylor s principles of scientific management focused on cooperation between management and the workers as well as improving the technical skills of the workers (Hodgetts, 1995). His approach is often referred to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an almost equal division of work and responsibility between the management and the workmen. The management takes over all the work they are better fitted than the workmen, while in the past almost all of the work and the greater part of the responsibility were thrown upon the men. (Hodgetts, 1995). Taylor s scientific management focused on increasing productivity, whereas Fayol s administrative management theory focuses on ways to make the organisation more effective and efficient. Scientific management focused on employees as individuals and their tasks, general administrative management theory dealt with total management organization. According to Pindur Rogers, 1995, General management theory was a much broader theory concerned with administrative management functions and is considered the forerunner of modern organization theory. For Henri Fayol, management was not so much as a way of devising systems to increase productivity but it was concerned with the integration of the different functions of the organisation such as production, sales, finance and so on (Wren, 1994). According to Fayol the success of an organization depended more on the administrative skills of the manager than on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. General Grain Theory Case Study The third part of the general strain theory is the removal of positively valued stimuli. The removal of positively valued stimuli could include many things. Some things that could be involved in negative stimuli could be the death of a family member/friend, the loss of a relationship, the loss of a substance that one might be addicted to, (coffee, drugs, videogames etc.) the loss of previously owned money, or even the loss of a cell phone. The removal of positively valued stimuli could include anything that was valued and then is taken away by some force (Bernard, Snipes, and Gerould, 2010, p. 164 165). In the case of the Walmart shooting, one can speculate that anything could have been taken from Willis, whether it was his job, friends, family member, or maybe even his phone. Considering that Willis was stationed at the air base in Grand Folks since 2013, one could speculate that Willis was missing his family. Willis saw his family two weeks before his crime. The family of the airman explained how happy Willis was when visiting his family. The family also explained that they did not see anything wrong with his mental state and was in disbelief that Willis had committed such a terrible crime (NBC News 2015). Dude to these facts, one could imagine that Willis could have missed his family a great deal. Willis could have been so homesick that he would rather die than live away from his family. The final part of the general strain theory is the presentation of negative stimuli. The presentation of negative stimuli causes strain and negative feelings to be experienced. Negative stimuli could be considered anything from the realization of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Upon reshaping their image, Radio Shack has seen their total net sales and operating revenue for 2009 increased to $4.28 billion compared with $4.22 billion for 2008. Retirement And Tax Reform Retirement and Tax Reform As many family members including grandma and grandpa, reach the age of retirement, her legal status and annual income will play a role in determining whether or not she ll be able to qualify for the 401K retirement plan that offers the most benefits. This has become the case for millions of working Americans in modern time as qualifications increase the accessibility to these benefits has diminished. Today, there are far more people working than previous years as unemployment rates have fallen. Passing the Retirement and Tax Reform would only hurt the economical situation severely. According to Warren S. Hersch in the article Message to Congress: Leave our products alone , he states that, This reform would not only hurt the U.S Economy by costing it about $583 billion dollars. A few of the major concerns today that people still have include the controversy between whether or not members of Congress are against the idea of passing this act and why Congress continues to push away the idea of passing this act from the NAIFA. The NAIFA is working to pass a reform that only applies to a specific portion of America and would result in an economic blunder. • 12. The Hidden Characteristics Of The Renaissance The Baroque style is the product of the obsession with perfection from the Renaissance and the strangeness of the Mannerists. These two periods combine with each other and what you get is the Baroque. The Renaissance had hidden meanings and complex theologies hidden in their paintings. The Baroque simplified that formula and made art more accessible to people, no hidden meanings and no hidden symbols. Not only did it have this but the Baroquejust did not simply tell a story but a moment in time from that story. This moment in time technique not only allowed for some showmanship in skill but allowed the viewer to take part of the moment with usually and empty space for the viewer. Because of this does the viewer remain just that, a viewer or do we become part narrative? This interaction between the viewer and the art is no longer like the outside and miniscule feeling one gets from looking at the perfection of Renaissance masters. And it is definitely not like the strange exchange and confusion that comes from the harsh mannerists. But rather, the Baroque offers the viewer a space in the scene, an interaction. It is often warm and inviting when appropriate and allows even uneducated people to understand what is going on. The Baroque has more of a human quality than a divine one. The use of spot lighting by certain artists such as Caravaggioand his followers allow the story to become the most important and the interaction between the viewer and the art becomes a story of its ... Play, By Marc Leblanc When describing the characteristics of play, Huizinga (1995) pointed out that engaging in the activity of play is not essential, yet engaging in the act of play is a voluntary activity. It is an activity that can start and stop at any time and often carried out during leisure time. He also mentioned that playonly gets urgent when the enjoyment of play becomes a need. Thus, playing is enjoyable. Games are compelling because it provides players several uses such as allowing players to pass time, to procrastinate, to cheer oneself up or to play just for enjoyment (Phillips et al. 1995). One reason why the founding of the US is so phenomenal is because the founding fathers were able to create a nation with a government, out of people who were against any type of political power (due to all previous corrupted rulers). There were also many people who were against the idea of a band of national advocates. (Ellis 9). People divided and scattered came together as a nation which is a miracle in itself. 2. Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to build a nation? In your opinion, which problem was most pressing? Explain. One problem was that no man had ever created a republican government with a country as large as the US; so no higher authorities had faith in the creation of this republican nation. Another apparent obstacle was that the legacy of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment of governmental authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority. Also, the states in the new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together (other than wars). Lastly, there were many black peoples growing rapidly amongst racist whites. In my opinion, the contradiction between the legacy of the Revolution and building a nation with an authority strikes as the most pressing because the people the people as a whole become angry and stubborn when something they have fought/are fighting for is crushed. How can teachers create a lesson that permits whole group instruction and individual attention at the same time? How can the teacher practice skills without losing the engagement of the class? How can learning to read and write be enjoyable for students? The answer to these questions is interactive writing. The first step in the interactive writing process is to provide active learning experiences. Because students share countless mutual experiences at school, there s a lot to choose from to write about during interactive writing. Reading and responding to a story the teacher has read is another way to share a learning experience. Lastly, allowing students to share personal experiences from their home life and community initiates a writing experience. Whatever way a teacher decides to start a writing experience, it s imperative that students are engaged in the process and that the teacher is pulling from students prior knowledge of an experience they shared together. Establishing the topic comes next in the interactive writing process. The topic for the interactive writing activity comes by way of the students joint common experience. Teachers facilitate a discussion with students around their shared experience as they form sentences they will later put on paper. During this time, the teacher emboldens students to express themselves in ways that implicitly capture their experience. Composing the text, or negotiating, follows establishing the topic in the interactive writing experience. During this step, the teachers and students decide how they will say what they want to write. The wording and phrasing is a coconstructuve effort between the teacher and students. As always, the teacher facilitates a discussion to develop a story or a sentence. Once a collective decision is made, the teacher has the students repeat what they will write numerous times before beginning to write. This is done so the students remember the sentences and can predict the following word when it comes time to write. • 23. The Death Of Witchcraft By Richard Godbeer Essay Ultio, is the Latin word for Revenge, which the witchcraft craze of the 1800 s was indirectly a result of. Richard Godbeer argues that women and men, alike, were accused of witchcraft by vengeful neighbors. These vengeful acts, however, were a direct result of tensions in and around the colonies. In a new land faced by harsh weather, disease, and war with neighboring Native American tribes, many colonists needed an escape, something they could easily control and defeat. Accusing neighbors of witchcraft, was not only an act of revenge, but a way for colonists to band together against a common enemy they could destroy. They essentially created a substitute for their fears and hatred. Connecticut had already begun to face a renewal of Indian attacks, and dissention between Quakers and Anglicans, as Stamford begin to experience witch accusations. Goodbeer mentions, in his Afterword, that the rhetoric used to describe increasing tensions caused by Indian attacks and religious conflicts was similar to what was used to describe witches. Portraying them as being worshipers of Satan. In small communities, like those of the Puritans in the colonies, congressional members were expected to be friendly, kind and generous at all times. Any deviation from this norm resulted in aggravated neighbors who would then proceed to call that person a witch. Since then, this economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum wage. First, the fast food industry is one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact, the fast food workers demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage for workers is $8.94 and this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving proper break times, and missing hours from the paychecks. The royal prerogative in the past was able to declare war, however nowadays parliament make powerful decisions like this one. This changed because society wanted the views and opinions of everyone to be heard and not the high class people and the monarch as then the law would be bias and not satisfy everyone. This shows how it has adapted to fit the needs of society. On the other hand some may same that the UK constitution is out dated and not suitable for today. In this experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP substrate in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the rates of the reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then, the MBP AP assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the kinetic constants of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes. Results of the experiment show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded expected kinetic constants according to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced kinetics constants that did not resemble a competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor. Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed in a reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to digest a hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the substrate binds to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment. For a specific enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper manner and produce a functional ES complex. In the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the lands are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural resource extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as important alternatives for local economic growth. The European explorers of the late 15th and 16th centuries did not discover America; the native people had already lived and flourished there for many years. The European exploration of America is notable because it is the start of the mentality among Americans the fuels the need to travel from home in order to find oneself. Since the beginning, the settlers in America have been people who left home to find a new life where they could live successful lives. While this is a theme in all types of literature, it is one that is especially prevalent in American literature because the settlers were an entire people who left their home in search of something better. According to the beliefs expressed in an article by Debra Baker in the NWSA Journal, media has mistreated feminism. She claims, ...the media portray [active, assertive women] has turned all feminists into a frightening fringe element, (Beck 139). By definition in the Meriam Webster Dictionary, equality means, the quality or state of being equal or of the same measure, quantity, amount, or number as another, ( Equality np). On the other hand, equity is defined as, justice according to natural law or right; specifically: freedom from bias or favoritism; dealing fairly and equally with all concerned, ( Equity np). Most feminists, without even realizing their error, are fighting for equity instead of fighting for equality. With reference to the SGBA e Learning Resource: Rising to the Challenge, we can understand a direct distinction between equality and equity. Equity, as we have seen, involves trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy full, healthy lives, (Clow np). From context, the term equity should be associated with giving people what they need for a happy lifestyle. Equality, in contrast, aims to ensure that everyone gets the same things in order to enjoy full, healthy lives. Like equity, equality aims to promote fairness and justice, but it can only work if everyone starts from the same place and needs the same things, (Clow np). It is impossible to provide everyone in the world, male and female, the same circumstances. This has become a challenge for those who associate themselves with finding equality for all. It is physical impossible because we are born in different circumstances, with incomparable talents and strengths. Barbara Clow, Yvonne Hanson, and Jennifer Bernier, authors of the module Distinguish between Equality and Equity, prove an important point as they contrast equality and equity. They use an analogy of the failure of providing equality to competitors in a race at a track meet. The concept of equality would have us treat the runners in exactly the same way, ensuring that they all start at the same place on the track. But we know that runners in the inside ... • 34. The Two Franks and Their Architecture Essay Different architects have different styles because they are trying to get at different things. Architecture is not just about making something beautiful anymore, it is about trying to get across a set of ideas about how we inhabit space. Two of the most famous architects of the twentieth century, one from each side, the early part and the later part up until today each designed a museum with money donated by the Guggenheim foundation. One of these is in New York City, it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The other is in bilbao, Spain, and it was designed by Frank Geary. My purpose of this paper is to interrogate each of these buildings, glorious for different reasons, to show how each architect was expressing their own style.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very functional approach. I am only going to talk about the outside of Frank Geary s museum because I have never been there, and I have only seen pictures on the internet. This building is surprisingly attractive because the other building that we saw in class of his, his house in Santa Monica, had a great deal of ugliness, to use an official term. His house in Santa Monica was supposed to look unfinished, with an emphasis on the materials used in construction. This building, however, looks as if it has been wrapped in silver. It looks very futuristic, and angular, so it could be functional as a museum as a museum because people will know it holds modern art. I like the way that it catches reflections, almost mirroring the surrounding buildings. So, in these two examples we see very different approaches to architecture. One has an impressive inside and the other one has an appealing outside. Also, both seem to be departures for the architects from their normal modes Wright s building doesn t blend in with nature, and Geary s doesn t look deconstructed into small parts. Now if only they could has worked together on one project, then we would have a museum that would be perfect inside and out. The Falling Water House that was built by Frank Lloyd Wright is an embodiment of organic architecture. It has a stone face that was the same tonal feeling of the rock that surrounds the building. Kolin, an English critic and author, hailed Streetcar as: the most creative new play....the one that reveals the most talent, the one that attempts the most truth. Not surprisingly, Streetcar quickly became a staple on the world stage, one of the major theatrical experiences and experiments of the twentieth century (Kolin2). Streetcar Named Desire was published just after World War II. When the play came out, the country had just emerged from the war after struggling through the Great Depression of the 1930 s, and suddenly the national spotlight concentrated on the lower and middle classes as the true bearers of the heroic American spirit. Blanche s Tragic Flaws include her desire which arises because of her loneliness which she endures after her husband s tragic death, her lack of self awareness, low self esteem, and that she has sold herself through dependence on men (Kolin9 10). Blanch is insecure and looks in everywhere for a male protector. She hopes to find a life for herself, including an appropriate husband; at the end of the play, she has realized the painful truth that she cannot even get support or sympathy from her own sister Stella and brother in law, and because of them, she will never find a husband as they put her in a mental asylum. She has learned that Stella and Stanley, in contrast to Old Southern tradition, are totally selfish; they adapt with their lives and cannot be disturbed with her or her problems. It should not come as a surprise that websites designed to share pictures, ideas, and what is for dinner, leave individuals feeling that their privacy has been invaded. It is also not surprising that some people are oblivious to the effects of what they post online. It is safe to say the loss of privacy can be self imposed for societies need to collaborate and socialized is the reason social media sites were created in the first place. Jeff Jarvis tells the need for publicness or the need to be public is strong upon our society today (Berkman, 2012). In today s technology age, when everything can be found in just a matter of clicks, it is easy to overshare. Yet the information that is published or posted on social media sites is not the only information that is gathered and stored. Many social media sites such as Facebook, collect data behind the scenes and sell it to marketing firms and other data collection firms. Every like or when signing into other sites using Facebook credentials, something new is learned about the user. There were many migrations of the colonists before hand too in the 14th and 15th century. Some colonists that came to the states were John Smith, Henry Hudson, Robert La Salle, Sir Walter Raleigh, Bartholomew Gosnold, Juan Ponce de Leon, and the pilgrims. John Smith colonized James towne in 1670, Henry Hudson explored Northern Canada in 1610, Robert La Salle explored canada in 1666 / explored the ohio region in 1669, and the Pilgrims left for massachusetts in search of religious freedom in 1620. The Colonists migrated to New England, the southern state of America, Canada, and the Caribbean/ Central South America. In the early 1600 s wealthy english merchants began to pool their resources to form joint stock companies with America called the London Virginia Company which was looking for gold. After the colonists emigrated to other places, more and more europeans started to emigrate. Its first years were extremely difficult, with very high death rates from disease and starvation, wars with local Indians, and little gold. The colony survived and flourished by turning to tobacco as a cash crop. Many Jamestown settlers who moved from Europe were desperate men, although they came from elite families, they were younger sons who would not inherit their father s estates. In 1609, a ship bound for Jamestown foundered in a storm and landed on Bermuda. The admiral of the ship, George Somers, claimed the island for the English crown. The gap between organs needed and organs being donated is alarmingly huge in today s society. Organ donationis a big issue and there is not just one way to solve it. To some, the problem can be solved by simply thinking morally and choosing to help those around you. To others, the problem lies within the care from medical staff. Creationism is the belief that all living organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how the earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. Based on the founding principles of our country, which are derived from the Constitution of these United States, justice is dealt accordingly to the perpetrators of these crimes. Disregarding the fact that the two defendants were not originally noticed in police lineups by the male victim, and despite the woman s repeated mixing up of the two defendants identities in court, the jury somehow thought the defense of mistaken identity was not possible, and thus both men were found guilty of aggravated robbery. The jury decided to not indict Dupree on charges of abduction or rape because they had felt any further convictions would not have been very significant; he was already given a sentence of 75 years in prison.
