Romantic poetry conjures in the mind of many people images of sweet, pastoral landscapes populated
by picturesque citizens who live in quaint houses in rustic villages, with sheep grazing on green
swathed hills, while a young swain plights his troth to his fair young maiden, who reclines demurely
amidst the clover and smiles sunnily. William Wordsworth is perhaps the archetypal Romantic poet;
his most famous poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud , would seem on first reading to support the

by natural piety (line 9); not does wish or even simply wishes , but could wish , which implies not
only desire but envy. Does the speaker himself believe the affirmations he has made in the first six
lines?
As always with Wordsworth, the poem is not about what it seems at first glance. The child is father to
the man (line 7) is true in a basic sense: everything the man is comes from what the child was. A child
has natural, or unforced and hence automatic, piety; he must, simply because he has not yet acquired
the cultural baggage that modifies, cultivates and un naturalizes his being. Growing up is the process
of socialization the gaining of prejudices that block out unnecessary or extraneous thoughts, feelings
and images. Eventually enough prejudices are acquired that a reader can say Isn t that nice? , wipe
away a crocodile tear, and dismiss a poem that might be disturbing. The child, having not yet acquired
these prejudices, is closer to the fonts of meaning and truth; the child finds easily, even carelessly,
what the adult, by growing up, has lost forever. And here is the envy mentioned above almost a
resentment.
This resentment is evident in other of Wordsworth s works. In We Are Seven , for example, a young
girl maintains that there are seven children in her family, although two are dead; the narrator tries
insistently almost stridently to convince her that, with two dead, her parents have only five children.

Los Angeles Riots Case Study
Introduction In this new decade where political correctness trumps common sense, civil unrest often
leads to violent unrest.
Los Angeles Riots On March 3, 1991, Rodney King, an African American taxi driver on parole for a
robbery conviction, led two California Highway Patrol Officers, Tim and Melanie Singer (husband
and wife) on a high speed chase on the freeway in Los Angeles, California. He had been drinking
King refused to pull over and reached high speeds. He later said that this was because he didn t want
to get in trouble for violating his parole. During the chase, King drove at speeds from 55 to 88 miles
per hour and several police cars and a helicopter joined the pursuit.

Angeles is still showing the effects of the riots today with sixty six percent of Black men and sixty
eight percent of Black women facing unemployment. In the ten years after the 1992 Los Angeles riots,

Essay on Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth...
Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Centuries The pagans from the northern regions came
with a naval force to Britain like stinging hornets and … robbed, tore and slaughtered … even priests
and deacons, and companies of monks and nuns
Originating from the sparsely populated, barren and virtually resourceless land of the Scandinavian
peninsulas, the Vikings set out, in the late 8th century to capture the wealth and resources of their
trading partners. Throughout the 8th, 9th and 10th centuries the Northmen brutally killed and ... Show

Each Viking race, striving to capture the perceived wealth and fertile lands of their European trading
partners, so different to the barren and resourceless peninsulas of Scandinavia, efficiently moved
throughout areas of Europe, violently conquering as they travelled. The Norwegians moved towards
Western Europe, invading countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Greenland, Iceland and Newfoundland.
The Danish invaded to the South, conquering areas such as the Frankish empire, Seville and Southern
Gaul. The Swedish raiders moved towards the East, invading parts of Russia, Constantinople,
Baghdad, and it is suggested moved even as far as Western China. (David M. Wilson, The Vikings and
Their Origins (New York: A W Publishers inc. 1980), 65 71) United by a common Language, the
Scandinavian people are portrayed by history as little more than violent thieves, who used force to
invade Europe, and terrorised the continent for well over a century.
The Viking attacks throughout Europe were perhaps best characterised by two things: the inhumane
violence and savagery of the attacks, and also the swiftness, stealth and incredible mobility of the
people. Many records of Viking attacks create

Theme Of Motivation In Othello
Motivation is the key to the human mind, and its survival. In the Shakespearian tragedy
Othello, Iago s mind is perhaps the most perplexing of them all. However, his reason is not completely
obscured and hidden. The motivations of Iago lies in his symptoms of a societally induced inferiority
superiority complex, his supreme ego drives the plot and leaves destruction in its wake. The three key
elements to his motivation are his sense of supremacy and superiority, his own perceived status versus
his inferiority, and the lifestyle and privileges afforded to him from the power structures of society.
The most prevalent part of his motivation is his ego and air of superiority. Iago has a white
supremacist and thus racist attitude, as he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has a perceived and strengthened the notion to Brabantio, that Desdemona deserves someone
better, one whom is of her own caste and complexion (and thus race) in society. His desires for racial
segregation are due to a white supremacist mindset. He believes she will turn from her mixed race
relationship with Othello and instead love a man of her (and his) own race, thinking himself and
others of his own race as superior, and the race that should be naturally loved. It s already clear from
the beginning, even before his plan, that he is racist, due to his use of the slur moor , use of racial
stereotypes like the mention of immoral magic, thick lips and savagery, and his comparison of Othello
to various animal imagery, as he stated,

Abstract: Association rule mining can be used to extract patterns of a website visitors behaviour. This
data can be used to improve web marketing (e business) techniques or to improve the web surfing
experience. Here we are applying association rule on web usage log file of an institution. We are using
association rule as interesting measures and verifying their values in two different period of time. We
will see how this comparison brings extra important information about association rules generation
and helps a webmaster make more and more accurate decisions about the website development and
enhancements. Here our main aim is to remove user unwanted uninterested rules and to replace them
with new and most favourable patterns or we can say by association rules. In this paper we are
describing association rules mining approach.
Keywords: Web usage mining, association rules, interestingness measures, E business.

most mysterious writer of the 20th century. He was born in New York in 1919, where he first attended

Importance Of Biostatistics And A Critique
Importance of Biostatistics and a Critique
Biostatistics is an integral component of numerous developments particularly in technology and
modern medicine today. With biostatistics, we can gather data, analyze it, create a hypothesis, test its
validity and make a conclusion. This is essential because if we can make an inference from a sample
that represents a large population, not only we are able to save time, cost and effort but we are able to
arrive to a conclusion that could help us develop alternative treatments or tools in the future. For
instance, in concept practice 4, we assessed the usefulness of the iPhone rhinoplasty app for the
preoperative assessment of surgery. In this concept practice, we learned how to use hypothesis ...

A mean plot provides a visual comparison of means and standard deviations which includes centers
and spreads (Daddysman, Multiple Sample Studies: Summaries and Estimation, 2017). A box plot is a
graphical representation of the five number summary...the minimum, 1st quartile range, median, 3rd
quartile range, and the maximum (Daddysman, One Sample Studies: Summaries, 2017). And a
scatterplot graphically represents two variable relationships...describing its form, direction and
strength (Daddysman, Simple Linear Regression: Inference and Reporting, 2017). For instance, based
on our graph in concept practice 9, we ve learned the relationship between our slope and our two
variables number of logins and the HBA1c results. As the number of logins increase by 1 unit, the
hbA1c results decrease by .0067. Each graphical summary is important in understanding and
comparing two variables to describe gathered data, determining differences and arriving to a
conclusion.
Biostatistics also taught us how to recognize study designs and write a summary and critique. This is
helpful because it identifies positive and negative aspects of the study and an opportunity for other
people to replicate the study and improve it. For instance, on the 26th of June 2017, I submitted a
summary and critique about hand washing. This article was a replication of a previous study and an

Review Of James Fallows Learning To Love The New Media
Arguing that modern journalism is merging with the entertainment and online realms, James Fallows,
in Learning to Love the New Media, compares and contrasts today s modern press with the media of
years past. The media s role, Fallows believes, has always been to inform the public of information
without sole concern for profit; however, due to industry deregulation and the advent of the Internet,
journalists are increasingly writing stories targeted for public desire rather than for civic service.
According to some, this shift in journalistic intention is causing American news to present fewer
viable solutions to real world problems and has ultimately made it less objective. Fallows, considering
the past, highlights how historical

Face Everything And Rise
Face Everything And Rise Strength (n.) ~ the quality or state of being strong. Life pushes us to be our
best through the many tests and trials. These trials teach us lessons, along with making us stronger.
Each and everyone s tests are different. Such as peer pressure, problems with self image or even
learning how to carry on after a loved one has passed. During the Autumn of seventh grade my
Grandfather passed away and even though I m sad about this it s made me stronger. It was a hard test,
but without the lessons I learned I wouldn t be who I am today. In the end the term oil we face is
worthwhile. It s not the breaths you take that matter, but the moments that take your breath away. To
me and countless others this is an important motto for life. When my Papa Jim passed away, I was
taught to live by these words. When our journey is over the shiny new sports car, big houses or even
your social rank won t matter. The memories you made on your adventure of life will be the only thing
you and anyone else cares about. Papa Jim was the grandparent I took to the most on my Dad s side.
He the one who loved me like his own. My Grandmother took some time getting used to me given that
I wasn t her biological child and she didn t want to get attached for the fear of losing me. Whereas, the
first time I met Papa Jim he gave me a big hug and took me on his tractor to see his bunnies. No
matter what I was going to be his granddaughter. This memory will be something that

San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson, Ferguson,...
Subsequent research focusing more solely on the San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson,
Ferguson, Colucci, and Dungan (1988) provides evidence that some degree of crustal assimilation has
had an impact on the evolution of magmas in the volcanic complex. The evidence for this is the high
δ^18O observed in fresh non glassy rock units. Taylor and Sheppard (1986) argue that the differences
in characteristics among rock units of the complex cannot be explained by the closed system
fractionalization of an unaltered mantle melt. The concentrations of the oxygen isotopes suggest that
the magmas that formed these igneous rocks have undergone some contamination with a crustal
component containing a higher concentration of 18O (Davidson et al., 1988). The occasional presence
of granitic xenoliths in the lavas and tuffs, such as the Pellado unit, are also indicative of some level of
crustal contamination. These xenoliths are enriched in large ion lithophiles and have similar
concentrations of REE as the underlying basement material and are therefore believed to be pieces of
the underlying basement of the volcanic complex (Davidson et al., 1988). For the granites to be
included into the melts as they rise through the crustal material indicates there is some degree of
interaction between melts and crustal material. In addition to alteration by crustal contamination, the
magmas of the San Pedro Pellado Complex were also likely subject to alteration by magma mixing

In the 1893 edition of the Locomotive Firemen s Magazine, William Graham Sumner published a
piece on social Darwinism called the Fruits of Evolution . In this article William Sumner applies
Darwin s law of evolution to labor. He believes that because of the processes of evolution human
intellect has become more robust and should be cultivated within the classroom. He argues that those
who command the largest educational advantages control those of inferior opportunities . By
examining the works of other authors Sumner s law of evolution has proven to be false.

Affordable Care Act and the Effect on the Economy Essay
Affordable Care Act and the effect on the economy The Affordable Care Act, also called Obama Care,

exactly is the Affordable Care Act? It was a legislation that addressed the idea that all Americans
should have access to affordable health care. The act was passed only after intense political battles in
Congress, and as the legislation lingers through installment enhancements there is a great deal of
doubt developing.
Many were faulted into believing that the health care reform would create 4 million jobs and nearly

Therefore, many businesses will be forced to hire part time or seasonal employees instead of fulltime.
According to many economists, this bill raises many questions as to why jobs will be eliminated along
with reduced wages and hours. According to the Congressional Budget office, this law will reduce the
amount of labor used in the economy by nearly half (The Budget). This is because many businesses
would prefer to hire part time employees or seasonal in order to bypass benefiting the worker. If a
company hires full time employers they will qualify for health benefits, which will result in higher
expenses for the owner, cutting wages and forgoing new hires. An example of this expenditure lies
within the fast food giant stating, The mandate eat up roughly 55 percent of its yearly net income after

Critics analyze the Affordable Care Mandate gives businesses an incentive to cut hours and wages. A

The Giver A Dystopia Essay
In the book The Giver it is trying to keep their community like a utopia. They are trying to accomplish
this goal by keeping it in Sameness . An utopia is a world where there are no problems ( that is what
the community is trying to be ) and an dystopia is a world made up of rules ( world, place, town

people have the right to make their own choice, it is an dystopia. Here are my reasons why I say it is a
dystopia because they do not have the right to live the way they want, they live in a world that is ruled

Mental Illness And Its Effects
Mental illness has always been present, but the views and treatments have drastically changed through
the centuries. In past decades, particularly in and after the 1930s, advances in helping the mentally ill
have increased in this field because of the growth of government funding and medical breakthroughs.
Additionally, society has become more knowledgeable and accepting of the struggles the mentally ill
face; programs and non life threatening treatments have been created since society has become
involved. Today mental illness can be helped and even cured with professional help and medical
attention. Though the world knows more than it did a few years ago, much is yet to be discovered; the
gruesome past of mental illness is still highly present. Mental illness is an uphill battle for all who are
diagnosed, and to understand fully the struggle and persona of the mentally ill, one must look into the
treatments prescribed in the previous century, medical breakthroughs, and treatments of mental illness
today. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the public was looking for fast and easy solutions to
the increasing number of people who were being diagnosed as insane in the American community. As
the mentally ill was already compared to waste , one answer was just to sterilize the insane persons
who were considered unfit to live in society. Starting in 1907 and lasting until 1940, about 18,552
insane individuals would be sterilized in the United States and approximately

Comparing The Searchers And Touch Of Evil
Despite the numerous differences between The Searchers (1956) and Touch of Evil (1958) the
overarching themes and character similarities of the films define them as comparable. Both were
created at the beginning of a phase which saw a great shift of cinematic themes within the industry.
While these themes were changing rapidly in the late 1950s, cinematic techniques were at times
innovative and at times adherent to classical traditions. This essay contextualises these films and
illustrates the differences and similarities in style and content.
Prior to WWII, most films centered on conventional protagonists men and women who had
discernable motives and where everything was black or white. After the war a new set of viewer ideals
were established and Hollywood responded with the anti hero; characters whose actions were
sometimes questionable. In the later half of the 1950s, with the expansion of independent movie
houses, there was a dramatic shift in subject matter. Movies introduced the more taboo themes of sex,
drugs and race. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brad Manner wrote this persuasive essay for his freshman composition course, where he shared his
unique relationship with his father, as the two bonded through ritualistic father son competitive arm
wrestling. His father s arm symbolizes the strength and love he has for his son. However, as the story
progresses into Manner s college years, the symbolical power and strength of his father begins to fade
as his father s unwavering strength weakens with the inevitable and unforgiving progression of ageing.

Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid
There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido
for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a
dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an
emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of
love.
Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy
bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini,
see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use

/ The inward fire eats the soft marrow away (IV. 92 93)
Here, the inward fire most likely refers to Dido s longing desire, as bestowed in her by Cupid, to
pursue Aeneas. However, because their love will be consummated sexually, this desire could literally
be a sense of physical arousal.
As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to
release him from the pain that their love causes.
So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire.
(IV.497 498)
Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease.
As Aeneas leaves, Dido is overcome with a maddened fire.
From far away I shall come after you / With my black fires, and when cold death has parted / Body
from soul I shall be everywhere / A shade to haunt you! (IV.533 536)
Dido is now consumed by her own inward fire and it causes her to pledge to haunt Aeneas with black
fire, a sign of pure evil. She vows that Aeneas will pay for this, (IV.536). Noting the transformation
from the use of inward fire as a medium for desire to a more hysterical, crazed type of passion is
essential in understanding the ultimate failure of romantic and lustful love in the Aeneid.
Finally, as Dido unleashes her own inward fire all

outlets (Glenney 147). This further illustrates the differences in circumstances between Western and
Eastern cyberspace, and leads one to question whether the stronger role of state intervention in Russia
is justified or not. For both China and Russia, the basic idea that Information Security is an instrument
of state power has not yet led to an adequate understanding of how to best utilize it; what interests it
could protect and advance; how to deter its use by others; and the rules to which states should

Short Essay On A Car
A dozen years ago, I had this idea: a clear plastic enclosure and mounting brackets for your car so you
could change bumper stickers whenever you wanted, and not end up wallpapering your trunk with all
the important things you want to express. Yeah, I never went anywhere with that. But when an email
about Talelight showed up in my inbox, I was immediately excited. The digital age had finally caught
up with bumper stickers! It makes sense, of course, that display technology has advanced to the point
where this could work. And it s not to say that other folks haven t tried similar ideas in the past like
big fat LED screens mounted in rear windows. But the folks at Talelight really seem to have taken the
idea, and the safety concerns, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process for getting stickers onto the device is easy, but not without some controls, again for
safety. You can purchase stickers on Talelight s online store, or design your own if you have the
graphics chops (which really isn t hard at all). You do have to go through a submit/approve process on
their website so they can be careful about trademarked or obscene images, but that usually takes
between 10 minutes and a couple hours, depending on the time of day. You can also put your own
stickers up for sale in their sticker store as a way to generate revenue. Once you have stickers in your
library on the Talelight website, you pick which ones you want on your device and schedule how they
ll display. Then, just go start up your car (the device only runs when the car is on), open the Talelight
app (iOS and Android), and sync. That s it! nd the device is pretty rugged. It s light enough that, with
the provided mounting tape, it really stays put, even with some rough driving. The port where the
USB power cable plugs in is tightly gasketed to prevent water intrusion; indeed, the Talelight folks
claim it s designed to IP 65 waterproof standards. The bottom line for me is that this is a very cool
gadget. I ve always loved the idea of bumper stickers, but I hesitated using them because I was loath
to either damage my car or be stuck (pun intended) with just one or two messages forever. This

The Lasting Effect Of Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust
Many religious conflicts are built from prejudice. However, only few will have a lasting effect on the
world s history. In Germany in the year 1933, a man named Adolf Hitler rose to power. His mission
would be to exterminate all minorities, but most importantly, the Jews. Holocaust is a word of Greek
origin meaning sacrifice by fire . But as we now know in history, the Holocaust was the genocide of
six million Jews by Hitler and the Nazi regime. Over the time of Hitler s reign, the Jewish population
would be stripped of their rights, dignity, and most preciously their lives.
At the end of WWI, Germany was directly blamed for causing the great conflict. Many Germans could
not accept this blame, and believed designed by the Jewish people as part of a greater conspiracy.
Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The Nazi rise to power ended
the Weimar Republic, the German democracy that was established after World War I. The Nazi state,
also called The Third Reich, quickly became a regime in which citizens had no guaranteed basic
rights. Hitler s first objective was to eliminate political opposition. The assault against the Jews began
with a boycott of Jewish businesses. A week later the Nazis dismissed Jews from civil service, and by
the end of the month the participation of Jews in German schools was restricted. In May 1933,
thousands of Nazi students and professors stormed university libraries and bookstores in cities
throughout Germany to

A Case Study On Entrepreneurship And Business Failure Essay
John Labatt Blows In and Out of the Windy City, A Case Study in Entrepreneurship and Business
Failure, 1889 1896 , a 2014 article by Matthew Bellamy clearly illustrates multiple aspects working
against the Labatt Brewery in its attempt to jump into American saloons in the nineteenth century.
Being the first Canadian Brewery to tackle an expansion undertaking provided an interesting study for
the author. The article discusses the brewery s history and compares the different possibilities that lead
to the downfall of the company s American Expansion. Debating with the readers whether the failure
was caused by environmental factors or strong personality traits, by not understanding the American
consumer base or by not planning for new expenses Bellamy covers many possible angles as to where
the collapse could have faulted. Initially looking at how to define a business failure, the author
synthesizes for the audience generally accepted symptoms: market share erosion, persistent low or
negative profitability, shrinking critical resources, or the loss of legitimacy (Bellamy, 2014.) When
comparing this information to an article by Michael Porter from 2008 titled The Five Competitive
Forces that Shape Strategy , there is some overlay in information. Interestingly enough, multiple of
these aspects are seen through the company s attempted expansion as well as in other companies who
also failed. When searching for what John Labatt s, of Labatt Brewery, overall goal was in the

Sustainability and Business Need to Come Together
Sustainability and business are not always looked as a good functioning pair. Businesses often struggle
to implement sustainability measures, as they think that it is costing money to shareholders/investors.
However, due to increasing pressure from the public, businesses are being forced to reconsidering at
adopting sustainability and good business practice. In today s interconnected global economy, the long
term goals and success of business are inevitably connected by embedding the environmental, social
and governance issues into corporate management, operations and supply chain. While corporate
sustainability recognizes that, though the corporate growth and profitability are vital, it also requires
the corporation to pursue societal goals, particularly those relating to sustainable development like;
safeguarding environmental, social equality and economic development. (Wilson, 2003) Corporate
sustainability can also be named as a new and evolving corporate management paradigm. The term
paradigm is used extensively, where the corporate sustainability is an alternative to the traditional
growth and profit maximization model. Sustainability is good for businesses both as a long term
strategy to improve employee trust, and as a short term abide to government legislation. Businesses
with sustainability practices are also more attractive to the ethical investors, and recover the costs of
managing sustainability through government grants and from increased sales. Ethical

Classic Car Investment Essay
In 2015 a 1978 Ferrari sold for more than $35.7 million(Sullivan). Whether you are a car enthusiast or
you just use cars to get back and forth from work this is an amazing number. A car that sold for more
than 20x its original MSRP. How does this happen? Classic car investing is becoming the new stock
market for the wealthy. Buying, storing, then selling cars for a profit sounds like a simple system, but
can you really make money investing in classic cars? Auctions are now being televised and we see
cars selling well over their original price tag. Even with these prices some of the sellers are winners
and others, losers. There has to be a proper strategy for success or the auctions would be pretty empty.

is a lot of money flowing and it is almost guaranteed to sell if accepted. Craig Jackson mentioned that
to participate in the auction an entry fee is needed as well as a 8 10% consignment fee of the final sale
price(Hamer). This will eat into profits with ease. So turn to selling it yourself. Here you can establish
your own retail, but you must find buyers and bicker over the final sale price. This can be stressful and

Everybody and all that I have adored I have lost. How unfortunate. My father and mother, Belle Reve,

Some might argue that the Green House Effect is needed because it allows the earth to trap
greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, which are needed in order for the earth to stay warm and avoid
extremes; however, it has never resulted in year that has been labeled to be the hottest year on record
(Rampell). Some argue that it s just a part of the natural process the has been occurring since the

Effects Of Post Colonial Literature
Colonialism has shaped the lives of about three quarter people in this present day world. Post
colonialism refers to the impact that imperial process has caused to the entire culture from the moment
of colonialization till today. All through the history the continuation of colonising the minds through
imperial rule by the Europeans is the cause of this. The effect of this European imperial domination
has spread its impacts on the contemporary literature as well and it is therefore a major concern for the
world today. The literature of Canada, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, New Zealand, Malta, Sri
lanka, the South Pacific, the Caribbean and African countries, comes in the ambit of post colonial
literatures. One characteristic that can be found in common to all these literature despite of ... Show

However, even after getting Independence from the European colonial rule, the European bourgeoisies
still continues to decolonise the minds of people in post colonial countries through language. One of
the main features of imperial oppression is control over language. The imperial education system
installs a standard version of the metropolitan language as the norm, and marginalizes all variants as
impurities. As a character in Mrs Campbell Praed s nineteenth century Australian novel Policy and
Passion puts it, To be colonial is to talk Australian slang; to be ... everything that is abominable .
Language becomes the medium through which a hierarchical structure of power is perpetuated, and
the medium through which conceptions of truth , order , and reality becomes established. Such power
is rejected in the emergence of an effective post colonial voice. Ngugi wa Thiong o in his book,
decolonising the mind portrays this lamentable condition of post colonies through the example of
Africa. He believed that literature and politics are

The Meanings Of A Word By Gloria Naylor
The essay The Meanings of a Word by Gloria Naylor discusses the many definitions of a word and
how its meaning can change according to context and delivery. She made this point by telling a story
of her childhood and the first time she heard the n word used by a white person in a derogatory,
demeaning way. She described her this situation that took place when she was in third grade and a boy
in front of her in math class called her the n word. She had no idea what it meant to be called that in a
negative way because the people she grew up around only used it as positive and empowering. At the
end of her essay, she once again emphasized how easy it is to change a word into something hateful
simply depending on who says it and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But [she] didn t hear it until it was said by a small pair of lips that had already learned it could be a
way to humiliate [her] (Naylor, 411). This not only supports the fact that the boy had been taught or
heard this word by someone older like a parent, but it is also sad that a nine year old had to be taught
that such a nasty, ugly word was created to make her and people like her feel ashamed and
embarrassed to be black, or that are worth less as human beings, which is absolutely false. That is why
slurs are created though, to make groups of people feel less human . This essay explored the most
infamous slur against the black community. The fact that slurs like this are prevalent in today s society
is extremely upsetting and wrong. There are plenty of racial slurs that are so casually used today, it
makes one s stomach ache in distress. Ableist slurs are even less reprimanded, a high school student
walking through the hall will hear the r word too many times to count during the course of a day. Just
as commonly used are homophobic and anti LGBT slurs. A high school student will hear the f slur and
the q slur plenty of times, and even more will that s so gay or you re so gay be whipped from the
mouth of students without a second thought. It s disheartening.
A sensitive, controversial topic today regarding slurs is the conversation of reclaiming slurs . This idea

Racism In Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Title Analysis The title of Toni Morrison s acclaimed novel Song of Solomon has a few meanings that
can go along with it. The first is an allusion to the biblical book Song of Songs or commonly know as
Song of Solomon which is all about sexual themes and desires and that. The next meaning is a
reference to the protagonist s great grandfather whose name was Solomon and had a song about him in
which Solomon could fly and left his son Jake on the ground and inevitably to a white man s house.
Major Themes Racism: Racism plays a very pivotal role in this work as it shapes a character
thoroughly and even an entire group. Racism is seen to affect Guitar and the Seven Days the most as
Guitar has always hated the white man since he blamed them for the death of his father but becomes
more twisted as the novel progresses as he joins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ancestors and family as a whole and even learns about his great grandfather who was known as a
flying African and was the premise to the song that Pilate sang but was actually sung Solomon done

flying away. Even with Milkman s final confrontation with Guitar he takes his knowledge of his
journey and thinks to himself If you surrendered to the air, you could ride

The Sixties Exposed in Takin it to the Streets and The Dharma Bums
One cannot undertake any study of the 1960s in America without hearing about the struggles for social
change. From civil rights to freedom of speech, civil disobedience and nonviolent protest became a
central part of the sixties culture, albeit representative of only a small portion of the population. As
Mario Savio, a Free Speech Movement (FSM) leader, wrote in an essay in 1964: The most exciting
things going on in America today are movements to change America ( Takin it to the Streets, 115). His
essay is critical of those that maintain the status quo and oppose change in America. It seems quite
obvious that change has occurred as a result of the efforts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rebellion against automation and middle class prosperity of the sixties is portrayed in Kerouac s
The Dharma Bums. Ray and the other dharma bums lived on little money and enjoyed nature. Ray
traveled cross country hitchhiking and jumping on trains from California to North Carolina and back
more than once on only a few dollars and while at home in North Carolina for Christmas he sat in the
woods with his dog much of the time and preferred to sleep in a sleeping bag outside on the porch
rather than inside his mother s home. This love of nature and desire to live a very meager lifestyle in
opposition to the working class prosperity seems to be more in opposition to the changing culture,
which was becoming more automated and industry driven, than it was trying to illicit change.
Regarding automation and middle class prosperity, it seems that Kerouac and others feared the loss of
nature to industry as well as one s time to be able to enjoy nature.
The fight against automation was however, somewhat subservient to the goal of social change
regarding individual rights. The civil rights movement sought changes to the system of racial injustice.
Resistance to this movement helped bring about the FSM and the fight for one s rights to free speech
and assembly. The FSM was a movement dedicated to promoting equality and individual rights, yet it
maintained the

Analysis Of The Article What Should The U.s. Do About...
The article What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care by Charles Lister is about what
Charles Lister thinks the United States should do to combat ISIS. It has a prescriptive issue and a
conclusion. A prescriptive issue is a question about how the world should be. A conclusion is an
answer to the question asked by the issue that the author wants the reader to accept. Some significant
ambiguity is also present in Lister s article. Significant ambiguity is a word or statement that is
unclear, and the word s meaning affects the reader s ability to accept the conclusion. I will prove that I
have found the correct issue and conclusion and some significant ambiguity using text from Lister s
article. The issue in the article What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care by Charles
Lister is How should the United States respond to ISIS. Proof of this issue can be found in Lister s
writing. In the first paragraph he states that the United States cannot defeat ISIS militarily. The U.S.
must help improve the sociopolitical issues in the Middle East. These two statements answer the issue
I put forth. The second and third paragraphs discuss how ISIS has not only attracted foreigners to fight
in its jihad; it has also befriended the oppressed Sunni Muslims. The Sunnis, consequently, are
allowing ISIS to work freely in their territory. Paragraph three asks the question are the Sunnis still
loyal to their country, or are they only loyal to their religion

Why Does Area 51 Exist
Introduction Over the years, Area 51 has developed a very mysterious reputation and it is confirmed
that Area 51 is in fact real because President Obama actually acknowledged it in one of his speeches,

all of its experiments, location, and how they keep all the different theories remaining a mystery. In
this paper you will find some information about how Area 51 does exist, and learn about some of its
experiments and what they actually use the compound for.

Fear in Wordsworth s My heart leaps up when I behold, We Are Seven, Tintern Abbey, and Resolution and Independence Fear in Wordsworth s My heart leaps up when I behold , We Are Seven , Tintern Abbey , and Resolution and Independence Romantic poetry conjures in the mind of many people images of sweet, pastoral landscapes populated by picturesque citizens who live in quaint houses in rustic villages, with sheep grazing on green swathed hills, while a young swain plights his troth to his fair young maiden, who reclines demurely amidst the clover and smiles sunnily. William Wordsworth is perhaps the archetypal Romantic poet; his most famous poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud , would seem on first reading to support the traditional, ... Does the speaker himself believe the affirmations he has made in the first six lines? As always with Wordsworth, the poem is not about what it seems at first glance. The child is father to the man (line 7) is true in a basic sense: everything the man is comes from what the child was. A child has natural, or unforced and hence automatic, piety; he must, simply because he has not yet acquired the cultural baggage that modifies, cultivates and un naturalizes his being. Growing up is the process of socialization the gaining of prejudices that block out unnecessary or extraneous thoughts, feelings and images. Eventually enough prejudices are acquired that a reader can say Isn t that nice? , wipe away a crocodile tear, and dismiss a poem that might be disturbing. The child, having not yet acquired these prejudices, is closer to the fonts of meaning and truth; the child finds easily, even carelessly, what the adult, by growing up, has lost forever. And here is the envy mentioned above almost a resentment. This resentment is evident in other of Wordsworth s works. In We Are Seven , for example, a young girl maintains that there are seven children in her family, although two are dead; the narrator tries insistently almost stridently to convince her that, with two dead, her parents have only five children. • 3. Los Angeles Riots Case Study Introduction In this new decade where political correctness trumps common sense, civil unrest often leads to violent unrest. Los Angeles Riots On March 3, 1991, Rodney King, an African American taxi driver on parole for a robbery conviction, led two California Highway Patrol Officers, Tim and Melanie Singer (husband and wife) on a high speed chase on the freeway in Los Angeles, California. He had been drinking King refused to pull over and reached high speeds. He later said that this was because he didn t want to get in trouble for violating his parole. During the chase, King drove at speeds from 55 to 88 miles per hour and several police cars and a helicopter joined the pursuit. Rodney King was cornered, along with his two passengers ... Los Angeles is still showing the effects of the riots today with sixty six percent of Black men and sixty eight percent of Black women facing unemployment. Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Centuries The pagans from the northern regions came with a naval force to Britain like stinging hornets and … robbed, tore and slaughtered … even priests and deacons, and companies of monks and nuns Originating from the sparsely populated, barren and virtually resourceless land of the Scandinavian peninsulas, the Vikings set out, in the late 8th century to capture the wealth and resources of their trading partners. Each Viking race, striving to capture the perceived wealth and fertile lands of their European trading partners, so different to the barren and resourceless peninsulas of Scandinavia, efficiently moved throughout areas of Europe, violently conquering as they travelled. The Norwegians moved towards Western Europe, invading countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Greenland, Iceland and Newfoundland. The Danish invaded to the South, conquering areas such as the Frankish empire, Seville and Southern Gaul. The Swedish raiders moved towards the East, invading parts of Russia, Constantinople, Baghdad, and it is suggested moved even as far as Western China. (David M. Wilson, The Vikings and Their Origins (New York: A W Publishers inc. 1980), 65 71) United by a common Language, the Scandinavian people are portrayed by history as little more than violent thieves, who used force to invade Europe, and terrorised the continent for well over a century. The Viking attacks throughout Europe were perhaps best characterised by two things: the inhumane violence and savagery of the attacks, and also the swiftness, stealth and incredible mobility of the people. • 5. Theme Of Motivation In Othello Motivation is the key to the human mind, and its survival. In the Shakespearian tragedy Othello, Iago s mind is perhaps the most perplexing of them all. However, his reason is not completely obscured and hidden. The motivations of Iago lies in his symptoms of a societally induced inferiority superiority complex, his supreme ego drives the plot and leaves destruction in its wake. The three key elements to his motivation are his sense of supremacy and superiority, his own perceived status versus his inferiority, and the lifestyle and privileges afforded to him from the power structures of society. The most prevalent part of his motivation is his ego and air of superiority. Iago has a white supremacist and thus racist attitude, as he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has a perceived and strengthened the notion to Brabantio, that Desdemona deserves someone better, one whom is of her own caste and complexion (and thus race) in society. His desires for racial segregation are due to a white supremacist mindset. He believes she will turn from her mixed race relationship with Othello and instead love a man of her (and his) own race, thinking himself and others of his own race as superior, and the race that should be naturally loved. It s already clear from the beginning, even before his plan, that he is racist, due to his use of the slur moor , use of racial stereotypes like the mention of immoral magic, thick lips and savagery, and his comparison of Othello to various animal imagery, as he stated, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe (...) the devil will make a grandsire of you. This data can be used to improve web marketing (e business) techniques or to improve the web surfing experience. Here we are applying association rule on web usage log file of an institution. We are using association rule as interesting measures and verifying their values in two different period of time. We will see how this comparison brings extra important information about association rules generation and helps a webmaster make more and more accurate decisions about the website development and enhancements. Here our main aim is to remove user unwanted uninterested rules and to replace them with new and most favourable patterns or we can say by association rules. In this paper we are describing association rules mining approach. Keywords: Web usage mining, association rules, interestingness measures, E business. • 8. Importance Of Biostatistics And A Critique Importance of Biostatistics and a Critique Biostatistics is an integral component of numerous developments particularly in technology and modern medicine today. With biostatistics, we can gather data, analyze it, create a hypothesis, test its validity and make a conclusion. This is essential because if we can make an inference from a sample that represents a large population, not only we are able to save time, cost and effort but we are able to arrive to a conclusion that could help us develop alternative treatments or tools in the future. For instance, in concept practice 4, we assessed the usefulness of the iPhone rhinoplasty app for the preoperative assessment of surgery. In this concept practice, we learned how to use hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A mean plot provides a visual comparison of means and standard deviations which includes centers and spreads (Daddysman, Multiple Sample Studies: Summaries and Estimation, 2017). A box plot is a graphical representation of the five number summary...the minimum, 1st quartile range, median, 3rd quartile range, and the maximum (Daddysman, One Sample Studies: Summaries, 2017). And a scatterplot graphically represents two variable relationships...describing its form, direction and strength (Daddysman, Simple Linear Regression: Inference and Reporting, 2017). For instance, based on our graph in concept practice 9, we ve learned the relationship between our slope and our two variables number of logins and the HBA1c results. As the number of logins increase by 1 unit, the hbA1c results decrease by .0067. Each graphical summary is important in understanding and comparing two variables to describe gathered data, determining differences and arriving to a conclusion. Biostatistics also taught us how to recognize study designs and write a summary and critique. This is helpful because it identifies positive and negative aspects of the study and an opportunity for other people to replicate the study and improve it. For instance, on the 26th of June 2017, I submitted a summary and critique about hand washing. This article was a replication of a previous study and an extension ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Review Of James Fallows Learning To Love The New Media Arguing that modern journalism is merging with the entertainment and online realms, James Fallows, in Learning to Love the New Media, compares and contrasts today s modern press with the media of years past. The media s role, Fallows believes, has always been to inform the public of information without sole concern for profit; however, due to industry deregulation and the advent of the Internet, journalists are increasingly writing stories targeted for public desire rather than for civic service. According to some, this shift in journalistic intention is causing American news to present fewer viable solutions to real world problems and has ultimately made it less objective. Fallows, considering the past, highlights how historical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Face Everything And Rise Face Everything And Rise Strength (n.) ~ the quality or state of being strong. Life pushes us to be our best through the many tests and trials. These trials teach us lessons, along with making us stronger. Each and everyone s tests are different. Such as peer pressure, problems with self image or even learning how to carry on after a loved one has passed. During the Autumn of seventh grade my Grandfather passed away and even though I m sad about this it s made me stronger. It was a hard test, but without the lessons I learned I wouldn t be who I am today. In the end the term oil we face is worthwhile. It s not the breaths you take that matter, but the moments that take your breath away. To me and countless others this is an important motto for life. When my Papa Jim passed away, I was taught to live by these words. When our journey is over the shiny new sports car, big houses or even your social rank won t matter. The memories you made on your adventure of life will be the only thing you and anyone else cares about. Papa Jim was the grandparent I took to the most on my Dad s side. He the one who loved me like his own. My Grandmother took some time getting used to me given that I wasn t her biological child and she didn t want to get attached for the fear of losing me. Whereas, the first time I met Papa Jim he gave me a big hug and took me on his tractor to see his bunnies. No matter what I was going to be his granddaughter. This memory will be something that ... • 12. San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson, Ferguson,... Subsequent research focusing more solely on the San Pedro Pellado Volcanic Complex by Davidson, Ferguson, Colucci, and Dungan (1988) provides evidence that some degree of crustal assimilation has had an impact on the evolution of magmas in the volcanic complex. The evidence for this is the high δ^18O observed in fresh non glassy rock units. Taylor and Sheppard (1986) argue that the differences in characteristics among rock units of the complex cannot be explained by the closed system fractionalization of an unaltered mantle melt. The concentrations of the oxygen isotopes suggest that the magmas that formed these igneous rocks have undergone some contamination with a crustal component containing a higher concentration of 18O (Davidson et al., 1988). The occasional presence of granitic xenoliths in the lavas and tuffs, such as the Pellado unit, are also indicative of some level of crustal contamination. These xenoliths are enriched in large ion lithophiles and have similar concentrations of REE as the underlying basement material and are therefore believed to be pieces of the underlying basement of the volcanic complex (Davidson et al., 1988). For the granites to be included into the melts as they rise through the crustal material indicates there is some degree of interaction between melts and crustal material. In addition to alteration by crustal contamination, the magmas of the San Pedro Pellado Complex were also likely subject to alteration by magma mixing (Davidson et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1893 edition of the Locomotive Firemen s Magazine, William Graham Sumner published a piece on social Darwinism called the Fruits of Evolution . In this article William Sumner applies Darwin s law of evolution to labor. He believes that because of the processes of evolution human intellect has become more robust and should be cultivated within the classroom. Affordable Care Act and the Effect on the Economy Essay Affordable Care Act and the effect on the economy The Affordable Care Act, also called Obama Care, was signed into law by president Barrack Obama, on March 23, 2010 (Erickson, Scott 1). What exactly is the Affordable Care Act? It was a legislation that addressed the idea that all Americans should have access to affordable health care. The act was passed only after intense political battles in Congress, and as the legislation lingers through installment enhancements there is a great deal of doubt developing. According to many economists, this bill raises many questions as to why jobs will be eliminated along with reduced wages and hours. This is because many businesses would prefer to hire part time employees or seasonal in order to bypass benefiting the worker. In past decades, particularly in and after the 1930s, advances in helping the mentally ill have increased in this field because of the growth of government funding and medical breakthroughs. Additionally, society has become more knowledgeable and accepting of the struggles the mentally ill face; programs and non life threatening treatments have been created since society has become involved. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the public was looking for fast and easy solutions to the increasing number of people who were being diagnosed as insane in the American community. As the mentally ill was already compared to waste , one answer was just to sterilize the insane persons who were considered unfit to live in society. • 17. Comparing The Searchers And Touch Of Evil Despite the numerous differences between The Searchers (1956) and Touch of Evil (1958) the overarching themes and character similarities of the films define them as comparable. Both were created at the beginning of a phase which saw a great shift of cinematic themes within the industry. While these themes were changing rapidly in the late 1950s, cinematic techniques were at times innovative and at times adherent to classical traditions. This essay contextualises these films and illustrates the differences and similarities in style and content. Prior to WWII, most films centered on conventional protagonists men and women who had discernable motives and where everything was black or white. After the war a new set of viewer ideals were established and Hollywood responded with the anti hero; characters whose actions were sometimes questionable. In the later half of the 1950s, with the expansion of independent movie houses, there was a dramatic shift in subject matter. Movies introduced the more taboo themes of sex, drugs and race. ... Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of love. Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini, see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use of the Latin ... As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to release him from the pain that their love causes. So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire. (IV.497 498) Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease. The history of cybercrime in Russia provides an interesting illustration of one of these complications. The 1990s marked a legal and economic collapse in Russia, leading to high unemployment even among the tech savvy, ambitious students of the Soviet education tradition.
