Growing up, I loved Jelly Bellies. The colors, flavors and seemingly limitless
combinations had me captivated for hours on long road trips as my family moved
from state to state. Almost without thinking, I would sort them. Blues and greens,
browns and beiges, whites and blacks. The problem with this sorting came when I
would pack all of one color into my mouth, and that with a handful of cherry flavored
beans, I d get an unfortunate cinnamon taste.
I learned early on not to judge a Jelly Bean by its color, and that it was an
unrewarding practice to group together these individual candies because when not
every bean fit into a color category, I forced it to. The same can be said for people.
Each and every one of us are unique individuals, and it is virtually impossible to
effectively sort us into groups even more so as our society progresses. Identifiers

Ethnography is a research method that includes cultures and customs. The way
people interact with one another varies from person to person or group to group.
The interactions between people tell a great deal about their feelings towards a
person. Body language, tone of voice, vocabulary, and the way a person carries
themself reveals much deeper information than just when words are exchanged. For
this project I am going to research the difference between family dinners and
roommate dinners (home away from home). Many people who attend college have
heard the phrase or expression a home away from home or some variation of this.
This phrase was researched through using an actual family and a family of four
teenage girls who currently live together off campus at Indiana University in
Bloomington, Indiana. The dynamic of two different families led to several different
findings throughout the ethnographic research. There was an expected power
dynamic between the actual family, but a very unexpected power dynamic between
the four roommates. The concept of power was then further researched throughout
this project to draw conclusions about men, women, rapport talk, and report talk.
This ethnography research was proposed based off readings from the authors of
Tannen and Kiesling. Tannen discusses the differences between the way men and
women communicate with one another. During this ethnography project, there was

Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 (based on the Gregorian calendar) in
Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. Growing up, he was never really close to his
parents because his biological father died three months before he was born. Then,

War on Drugs sought to control the sale and use of psychoactive drugs as well as

distribution of narcotics (e.g. marijuana, cocaine, heroin); the punitive policies, which
often resulted in hefty fines and prison sentences for violators, ultimately prompted
the emergence of a black market, more potent and lethal drugs, synthetic drugs as
well as led to the increase in organized crime and prison population (Bagley, 1988;
Broden, 2013; Cussen Block, 2000; Elkins, 1990; Friedman, 1991; Henderson, 1990;
MacCoun, 1993; Powell, 2013). Despite the initial intention, there was rarely
sufficient funding allocated towards achieving the latter goals of promoting and

Maxine Kingston, a famous writer whose work is often rooted in her experience as a
first generation Chinese American, wrote pieces that often shed light on how first
generation Americans have figured out how the invisible world the emigrants built
around [their] childhoods fit in solid America (para. 10). In her memoir The Woman
Warrior, the first chapter No Name Woman involves a cautionary tale meant to
discourage young Kingston from engaging in adultery and humiliating the family; the
mother hopes the fear of being forgotten will serve as a deterrent for sexual lewdness.
The chapter dramatizes the cultural differences between Chinaand the United States,
particularly the narrator s internal conflict of identifying what is Chinese tradition
and what is the movies (par.12). Through the mother s initial tale and the narrator s
manifestation of her aunt s life, Kingston creates some sort of dialogue between
China and the United States. Moreover, Kingston employs the story of the dead aunt
to navigate between the contrasting regions by highlighting the differences in

headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders, and current imprisonment.
Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Mansonis no different.
On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing,
criminally involved, 16 year old girl in Ohio ( Manson Family ). She is said to
have sold him for a single pitcher of beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was
only the start of an extremely troubled life. By the age of 9, Manson had gone from
residing with family members to living at reformatory schools. He was beginning
to follow in his mother s footsteps, also committing his first theft at this age
(Henderson). Young Charlie s life would take an even sharper downward turn as
the years progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired
his followers to do the unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a
family (Abbas). However, this one would be far different than any other family to
ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for several young girls whom he
lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race war would
bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would
prevail. During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only
to emerge and take over the world because he thought the African Americans would
be unfit to lead themselves. He even referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate

Sjdanceco s Dance Concert Report
As a beginner dancer at MHS, it is really important to go to dance concerts because
it will help us improve our dancing. The concert I went to was known as
SJDanceco, and this concert was located at Santana Row s park. This event had
started at 10 am and had ended around 5 pm. I had went at 10 am and left around
2pm because it was a really fun experience. I had seen many cool and different
choreographies with different types of dances. On the other hand this concerthas
occurred on 4/23/2017, which is on a sunday. There were approximately 88 91
performance groups that had gathered and performed on this special day. This was
SJDanceco s 15th anniversary, so this could be a reason why there were so many
groups. Even though there were too many choreographers to name, all of their
choreographies were all amazing. Their choreos showed us how much work and
effort they put in, and I believe all of them put in lots and lots of hard work and effort.
When I say wide variety of dancers I also mean dance types because there were tap
dances, upbeat hawaiian dances, upbeat dances, hip hop dances, and many more.
My favorite dances were the upbeat dances because it made the audience get hyped
up and excited for the festival/concert even more than they were before. I personally
believe that every single costume that the performers had worn fit their dances really
