Managing Pain During The Acute Care Setting
Everyone experiences pain differently, its etiology, source, and type of pain is unique to each
patient. Pain is defined as a complex, multidimensional phenomenon that originates from sensory
stimuli, which has obvious motivation affective properties, demands attention, disrupts thought and
behavior and results in activity aimed to stop the pain(Blanchard, 2010). Managing pain in the acute
care setting has become one of the greatest challenges nurses and healthcare providers face.
Unsatisfactorily managed pain can contribute to several adverse outcomes for hospitalized patients
including reduced mobility, stimulation of unhealthy stress response, infection, creates barriers, and
additional complications. As pain treatment becomes more aggressive, so too does our attention to
reassessment of pain after intervention to ensure both safe and effective pain management(Gordon,
2014).
In 1992, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research provided guidelines for the management
of acute postoperative pain. The goals of the pain management guidelines are to reduce pain,
complications, and length of hospital stay, to educate patients in communicating unrelieved pain;
and to enhance patient satisfaction with pain management practices (Good, 1998). From these
guidelines, Marion Good, PhD, RN, helped develop a middle range theory for Acute Pain
Management for adults who can learn, set goals, and communicate symptoms. The theory does not
pertain to individuals such as elderly,

Indian Consumers Spending Patterns On Frozen Desserts
Indian Consumers Spending Patterns on Frozen Desserts VishakhaRaut AniketAmbardekar
Abstract The research paper talks about how product attributes and demographic variables affect
the decisions of consumers to re purchase frozen desserts. The data was collected from sixty
three respondents across various age groups, income levels, gender, etc. Vadilal s, Amul and
Mother Diary have a higher usage rate as compared to other brands. Frozen desserts are
generally preferred during special occasions than regular use. Moreover, there were relationships
between re purchase decision and demographics. INTRODUCTION Frozen desserts is the
universal name given to desserts that are made by freezing liquids, semi solids and sometimes
even solids. They can be based on flavoured water i.e. shave ice, sorbets, snow cones, etc., on
fruit purees like sorbet, on milk and cream i.e. ice creams, on custards, on mousse and many
others. The term Frozen Dessert is often used for products that are identical to the taste and
texture of ice cream but do not meet the legalized definition of the term. Frozen Desserts are often
made with vegetable oil i.e.mellorine as opposed to milk or cream. In the recent past there has
been a substantial evolution in the category of ice cream and frozen desserts. A decade ago this
category was limited to traditional flavours of ice creams such as vanilla, chocolate, kesarpista,
mango, elaichi, butterscotch, kulfi, etc. In the recent years, this category has grown and

A Comparison of Pride in King Lear and The Duchess of...
The Sin of Pride Exposed in King Lear, and The Duchess of Malfi
In this brief monograph, we shall be hunting down and examining various creatures from the
bestiary of Medieval/Renaissance thought. Among these are the fierce lion of imperious,
egotistical power, a pair of fantastic peacocks, one of vanity, one of preening social status, and the
docile lamb of humility. The lion and the peacocks are of the species known as pride, while the
lamb is of an entirely different, in fact antithetical race, that of humility and forgiveness. The
textual regions we shall be exploring include the diverse expanses, from palace to heath, of William
Shakespeare, the dark, sinister Italy of John Webster, and the perfumed lady s chambers of Ben ...

Only pride bows to flattery, and Kent is in essence telling Lear that his pride is getting the better of
him.
Another aspect of pride which appears in King Lear, as well as Webster s The Duchessof Malfi, is
that of the preoccupation with reputation and social status. In the latter play, it can be seen in
Ferdinand s speech to the Duchess in act III, scene ii, in which he tells her an allegorical story
about reputation, love, and death (See appendix). Given the Duke s choleric disposition and
unnaturally obsessive fixation on his sister s sexual activity, it is not altogether certain how far
his speech is motivated by pride and how much it is a product of another mortal sin (not treated
here), lust. All the same, it is indicative of an overall world view in which pride of place is
woven into the social fabric of the time. (Indeed, things are not so very different today, 400 years
later Plus ca change...)
The Duchess offers up her own little allegorical tale at the end of act IV, scene iii in which she
relates the fable of the salmon and the dogfish to her murderer to be, Bosola (see appendix). This
speech is the perfect companion piece and point/counterpoint style retort to Ferdinand s paranoid
parable. Where Ferdinand casts death as a mere supporting character in his story, the Duchess more
rightly sees death, the net, as the great leveler, bringing an end to the foolish, proud scorn of great
men for those born

The Importance Of High School Life
Reminiscing the anecdote of my high school life had shaped me to be a responsible person.
Missing a place for further education after completing grade 10 was a complete failure. I had to go
back to the village and live as a villager with norm subsistence lifestyle. My family s perception
towards me is for me to pass grade 6 exam to the high school(8 10), and then to national high school
and eventually to collegeor university. When I do this, I will promote my family s name as well as
my clan s name.
My family envisaged me on this path when I started school. Their expectation is that after
completing all my studies, I will eventually find a job in an urban place (town or city) and then
provide for their needs. I will then pay for my siblings schools fees, my cousin s school fees and
give money to them.
I was obligated culturally to support my family and the clan which is compulsory in order to be
given a share of wealth in the clan. I need to provide for all these obligations so that I will have a
land with the clan s consent. I was the eldest in the family and automatically qualify me to be the
leader in the family. This was the tradition for first born male to take charge of family s
responsibilities.
The leadership expectation towards me was high (Pavlovich, 2017). I was to be responsible in my
family affairs when I grow up.
This was a big challenge when the expectation was not met as a school dropout. Competing for
space in tertiary education and eventually finding

All The Light We Cannot See Analysis

the Light We Cannot See In All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Marie Laure and

These two motifs are integrated into the lives of Marie Laure and Werner and constantly surround
them. The motifs of spirals and radios enhance and support the theme that home is not based on

objects and music that are structured as spirals, which provide her a sense of security. First, when

answer, Marie Laure says yes yes yes. I have found tree snails and garden snails. But I have never

soon finds them comfortable. This is apparent when Hubert Bazin brings Marie Laure to the sea
and crouches and brings her hand to a curved wall which is completely studded with snails.
Hundreds of them. Thousands. Feeling the snails, Marie Laure says, So many , and when
Madame Manec tells Marie Laure and Hubert to leave, Marie Laure says, It s fine, Madame. After

fact that Madame Manec coaxes Marie Laure away from the snails shows that Marie Laure is
reluctant to leave the snails. In addition, marine snails now provide Marie Laure with a sense

A Part Of Epistemology Is The Study Of Knowledge
A part of epistemology is the study of knowledge. The study of knowledge deals with various
questions such as: What is considered as knowledge? How is knowledge acquired? What are the
limits of knowledge? (Steup, 2014). Knowledge can be acquired in two ways as there are two
types of knowledge. One type of knowledge is a posteriori knowledge which is gained through
experience. The other type of knowledge is a priori knowledge which is based on reasoning and
independent of experience. Through the limits of knowledge, the problem of scepticism arises.
Scepticism is concerned with the existence of knowledge. A sceptic is a person who doubts
whether we have any knowledge. It has been suggested that we do not, or cannot, know anything,
or at least that we do not know as much as we think we do. Such a view is called skepticism.
(Turncellito). There are four types of sceptics: Radical, Local, Cartesian and Humean. A radical
sceptic says that we do not and cannot have knowledge, knowledge is therefore unobtainable. A
local sceptic suggests that a person can have knowledge in certain subjects and not in others. For
example, I can have knowledge about my thoughts but not about the thoughts of others.
We will learn about Cartesian scepticism through Descartes First Meditation. Descartes (1641) talks
about how whatever he has considered true until now has come to him through his senses and these
senses have occasionally deceived him. Therefore, he says that it is unwise to completely

The Psychoanalysts of Violence Essay
The film Battle for Algiers can be analyzed thoroughly through Frantz Fanon s and Hannah Arendt s
polar opposite theories on violence. The implication of both theories is represented in the film that
has captured the understanding of both insightful phenomena. Fanon s views on violence are it
unifies individuals into forming a complex unit organism that works together, rinses, in addition it
is presented as an effective and productive mean that support the process of decolonization. In
contract, Arendt s theory detaches the concept of violence from power and emphasizes that the
driven reasons for violence is anti political. Both philosophers present distinctive theories upon the
use of violence; Fanon elucidates his philosophy on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hannah Arendt was regarded as one of significant and persuasive political philosophers of the 20th
century. While as her theories contradict fanon s, her philosophical theory apposes the
naturalization acts of violence, entailing its human nature. Arendt (1969) claims that a society that
acts on violence is a society that lacks power; in her view, force (violence) and power should not
be regarded as one in the practice of politics (1969). In addition, Arendt explains violent revolutions
are destructive and therefore its results are uncontrollable and has negative outcomes for
humankind. In views of change, revolution must accomplish core changes in process of
decolonization that is logical and relating. The fundamental opposition for resorting to violence as
a mean to produce change is the neutralization of violent revolutions as an effect of resorting to it
as a strategic procedure to claim change and justice, this results in preparing the society to act and
be totalitarianism. Moreover, the knowledge and belief that man knows his specified goal is
ultimately good is resulted by his ideology that categorizes it as good, owing to it s part of human
nature, or god s will; Arendt theory believes that religious extremist and violent revolutionaries
contribute to justify immoral procedures to claim their ends (1969). The only real revolution that
Hannah Arendt agrees with Fanon is the justification of the

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? Would it be to the high, rocky terrain

Pyrenees National Park, is something that I trust everyone should witness at least once in their

Problems Faced By Globalization And Technological Advances
Globalisation and technological advances are pushing the managers to solve problems relating
to the functionality of the organisation. Owing to the several different and uncertain
consequences associated with the possible problem solving actions, it is critical for the manager
to choose an effective methodology, whilst considering the structure and dynamics of the
organisation (Fischer, Greiff, and Funke, 2012). From a managerial point of view, taking a
decision to solve problems is not an easy task. The problem solving process in organisations is
often led by uncertainty and vagueness, combined with the managers difficulties in developing
an appropriate problem definition, inadequate method selection or application, lack of
knowledge, or various other internal and external factors (Szarucki, 2013). With the fast paced
work culture, managers tend to ignore minor problems which might later have a serious adverse
effect on the organisation. Based on the suggestions made by Nickerson, Yen, and Mahoney
(2011) for effective problem solving, the first step I would take towards solving an
organisational problem, is to accept the fact that the problem exists. My next target would be
adopting an effective methodology to go about the problem solving process. Current research in
the problem solving techniques points towards a 4 step process, as being effective. Based on the
research carried out by Szarucki (2013) and Hunsaker and Alessandra (2008), I would adopt this 4
phase process,

Scarlet Letter Pearl Character Traits
The characters in The Scarlet Letter are individually viewed differently by the people in the town.
Pearl, the infant in the beginning scaffold scene, is a complex character in the novel that is
subjected to the cruel comments and rude behavior of the townspeople. Although Pearl is shown as
a human character just like all the other characters, Pearls main purpose is to be a living,
complicated symbol for the scarlet letterA that her mother is forced to wear. Along with the letter
A printed on her mother s chest, Pearl is seen as evil and often considered a child of the devil.
Although that observation is based solely on the opinions of the townspeople and the letter her
mother wears, Pearl often acts in a manner that could be described... Show more content on

It was not just Pearl s aggressive, imaginative form of play that got her in trouble; Pearl was a
bad, misbehaved child. Pearl lacked reference and adaptation to the world into which she was
born. The child could not be made amenable to rules (page 74). Pearl was an outcast, along with
her mother. She did not fit in with the community. How could she fit into a community that
valued order over everything else? Pearl who was a dauntless child (page 83) did not even act
like the other children. After frowning, stamping her and shaking her little hand with a variety
of threatening gestures, suddenly made a rush at the knot of her enemies, (page 83). As Pearl
grows up and the novel goes on, there is more and more evidence that Pearl may just be as evil
as everyone thought to begin with. While Pearl is playing in the flowers one afternoon, she
begins to throw flowers at the scarlet letter on her mother s chest. When Pearl was finally out of
ammunition, she stood still and gazed at Hester. That little laughing image of a demon peeped out
from the deep abyss of Pearl s black eyes (page 79). Pearl is frequently compared to demons or

into three branches to make sure no individual or group will have too much power. They are the
Executive (President and about 5,000,000 workers), Legislative (Senate and House of
Representatives), and Judicial (Supreme Court and lower courts). These ensure the government is
effective and citizens rights are protected, each branch has their own power and responsibilities,

Tobacco Products Cause And Effects
Introduction
Tobacco products, specifically cigarettes, are products that usually cause a slow, painful death. If
death is not eventually caused as a direct result of tobacco products, they can still result in various
other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline,
but also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or
health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both categories. Cigarettes and other items
such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness
each year in the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents,
and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on tobacco products.
Addiction
All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug
nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these products. Nicotine is absorbed into the
bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled,
smoked, or chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate
the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce adrenaline within the human body.
This adrenaline, also known as the hormone epinephrine, prompts the central nervous system of the
individual to increase things such as blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate (DrugFacts:

The Impact Of Japanese American Internment
On February 10 1942, After the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt

the internment, many news articles had been written. For this essay, I have found two news articles
that are connected to the constitutional issues that arose because of Executive order 9066. The
news articles are from the Los Angeles times and New York Times. Both articles covered the

Democratic leaders planned to force votes before the session ends on a measure recommended by
the interior department s setting up a three man commission to compensate evacuees for real estate

Factors Affecting The Generic Drug Industry
Spending growth in generic drugs has slowed considerably from 42% in 2011 to 10% currently.
IMS Health predicts the growth to maximize at 90% of the prescription market (Salazar, 2015).
Though there is not much room between generic drugs currently representing 83% of prescription
drugs and the predicted 90% maximum, the next twelve months appear a safe investment period for
the generic drugindustry when considering the currently growth rate. Many factors influence
success in the generic drug industry; among the influences is the need for an alternative to
higher priced brand name drugs. This was the original purpose of generic drugs. Initially,
generics offered a considerable price benefit over brand drugs with a reduction of at least 60%
for specialty drugs and 80% for oral prescriptions (Taylor, 2015). Recently, the rising cost of
generics has drawn much scrutiny. Many factors contribute to the increased cost of generics.
According to Salazar, increased product quality regulations, less new products entering the market,
inflation, and the increased number of former prescription drugs being offered over the counter
have all lead to higher generic drug pricing. An additional motive for the increased cost of generics
may be pure greed. Price hikes as exorbitant as 5000% have occurred in recent months in some
generic drugs. Taylor attributes the price hikes to the increased need for innovation and the lack of
competition in generic drug manufacturers. These

Analysis Of Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony

Music 101
Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony No.1, Classical Symphony, a favorite to many, is a major piece of
the orchestral repertoire. The piece was composed from 1916 to 1917 and was in a new genre; neo
classism. This new genre was due the reaction to the expressionism and the perceived formlessness
of the late romantic music during the time period (Whittall). In fact, the Classical Symphony is one
of the earliest works of music using the aesthetic of the neo classical movement, and it is possibly
the earliest symphony to do so (Green). Despite being written in the early 20th century during the
midst of the Russian revolution, Prokfiev stayed true to the important aspects of pre romantic
instrumentation and structural, harmonic, and melodic styles. As previously stated, the Classical
Symphony was written in the midst of the Russian Revolutions in 1917. These revolutions were
the cause of major turning points in Russian history and Prokofiev was stuck at the heart of it in
Petrograd, the current day Saint Petersburg. Trouble during this period would begin with protests
of thousands , escalating with food fights and fires until tsar Nicholas was abdicated (Nice, 130).
During this chain of events, Prokofiev would find himself taking refuge from time to time behind
projecting walls when the shooting became too intense (Nice, 130). Lenin s return, massive strikes
and the first of the Bolsheviks attempts to seize power in July

I Am No Taller Than Three Feet
I stand no taller than three feet, even with the monster sized boots hiding my feet from the frigid
air on the lake. The bright orange hat falls over my eyes as I struggle to keep up with my dad. I
slip a bit on the ice and let out a shrill scream before getting ready to hit the ground, but I don t
feel any pain. I open my eyes to see that my superhero had swooped me up and saved the day. I
wrap my slender arms around his neck, hugging him. He carries me the rest of the way to the
small lakeside restaurant. When he sets me down on the ground again, my boots make a loud
bang on the wooden floor. A few heads turn towards us. One specific person that I notice is an old
man who s grey hair hangs a bit too long. His scruffy looking beard reminds me of my grandfather.
I waddle after my dad to the tall stools by the counter. I try to climb up by myself but I am much
too short. Dad picks me up again and sets me on the seat. He helps me unzip my jacket so that I
don t get too hot in the heated room. I look over at my dad and smile. It is the first time that we get
to go ice fishing for what seems like years but it s really only been about two weeks. He smiles
back as a waiter comes up to us. My dad asks if I d rather drink hot cocoa or chocolate milk. Hot
cocoa please, Dad. He orders for me and the waiter leaves to get it.
Do you want a burger, mac n cheese, or chicken strips, Princess? I smile and think about it for a
little bit.
Chicken strips sound yummy! The old man

Review Of Eric Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front
Death is not the only thing to come out of war. Eric Remarque wanted to show us the facts about
war and he did but he also showed us three things that happen in war with emotions. In this essay I
will go over three things that come out of war other than death which is betrayal, horror, and
friendship. To begin with, betrayal is a strong emotion that can lead to hatred and more emotions.
Kantorek talks the boys into joining the warbecause he thought that it would be fun and a good
experience for them. Another way of betrayal can be the unspoken kind like how when the boys
first go to the front they find coffins and they think that the government has little hopes for people
to survive. The final way of betrayal is physical betrayal like when the boys beat up Himmelstoss
just because they did not like how he treated them. For all those reasons is why I think that betrayal
is a strong emotion that can overwhelm someone with hate.... Show more content on

when Paul falls into a shell hole and a Frenchman falls in and he stabs him but cannot run out of

because of mortars hitting them. For all these reasons is why I say war does not come without
horror and soldiers come back with we now call

Great Neck Community Analysis
The Village of Hempstead and Great Neck in the New York City Metropolitan Area The diverse
parts of a metropolitan region play an important role in its economic development. In the New York
City metropolitan area, the different cities and towns that make up these sectors are marked by
varying community characteristics such as average household income and crime rate. For example,
both considered a suburb of New York City, the village of Great Neck and Hempstead are located in
the Nassau Countyon Long Island. These two suburbs are just a 25 minute drive away from each

The Environmental Performance Of New And Existing Buildings
BREEAM
BREEAM is the British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. It is used to
assess the environmental performance of new and existing buildings.
Standard types of BREEAM assessment scheme exist for common building types:
п‚· Courts
п‚· Eco Homes
п‚· Education
п‚· Healthcare
п‚· Industrial
п‚· Multi residential
п‚· Offices
п‚· Prisons

п‚· Energy use
п‚· Health and well being
п‚· Pollution
п‚· Transport
п‚· Land use and ecology
п‚· Materials
п‚· Water

Building regulations are closely connected to Code, which are the least building standards required
by LAW. The Code flags the future heading of Building Regulations in connection to carbon

home building industry.
From first May 2008 it has been compulsory for all new homes to have a rating against the Code
(this may be a nil rating showing no evaluation was embraced). Likewise, since April 2008 all
new social lodging must be assembled to at least Code level 3. Prerequisites for gathering certain
Code levels will be ventures up about whether to help meet the Government s 2016 focus for all
new homes to be assembled to zero carbon norms.
The Code Scoring System
The Code for Sustainable Homes evaluates homes in nine outline classifications:

Calaveras Vineyards Case
Dear Dr. Lynna Martinez,
After reviewing your projections of Calaveras Vineyards, I used the adjusted present value method
to come up with the value of the company. With this method, I assume that the whole firm is
financed only through equity. Therefore, when calculating the free cash flow, debt was not taken
into account. Despite that, the net present value of interest shields is added back to compensate the
debt in the capital structure. With this method, the company is valued at $9.62 million.
In order to assess Calaveras value, I calculated the free cash flow from 1994 to 1998. The free cash
flow from each year derived from adding Earnings before Interest and Taxes,... Show more content

You were hired back then to develop and implement a strategy to lift the company out of the bulk
wine category and into the premium brand segment of the market. In addition to that, your resume
is stronger than the others. Your education is better than the others and you had a lot of experience
in directing the making of wine. Not only that you trained in family owned winery and distillery,
but you also gained a lot of experience in champagne and white wine technology at the Moet et
Chandon installation in Epernay when you took trips to Europe.
Please note that if you decide to buy the company, you might become more conservative.
Currently, you are the vice president/general manager and winemaker of Calaveras. If you buy
the company as proposed, you will own 85% of the company. This means that you will relate to
the company in two ways; as a manager, and also an owner. Therefore, I am assuming that you
will become more conservative because it s always better to expect less, so you wouldn t forecast
too positively. A reduction in forecasted real growth rate from 2% to 1 1.5% is what I am
expecting you might do.
Thank you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Fortunato Short Story Analysis
This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the
night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term
insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he
has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event
that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk
and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and
eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one
closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening.
The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with
Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words.
Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives
demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that
they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend,
while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill
me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line
of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony
along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can
be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate.
Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In
Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized
that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer.
Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last
words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be
interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in

Lab 3 Observing Osmosis in Living Cells:
Introduction
Background Information
Living cells may be thought of as microscopically small bags of solutions contained within
semipermeable membranes. For the cell to survive, the concentration of solutes within the cell must
stay within a safe range.
A cell placed in a solution more concentrated than itself (a hypertonic solution) will shrink due to
loss of water, and may die of dehydration. A cell placed in a solution more dilute than itself (a
hypotonic solution) will expand as water enters it. Under such conditions the cell may burst.
A cell placed in a solution that is in equilibrium (an isotonic solution) will remain the same and no
water will enter nor leave the cell.
Description of the Experiment
This experiment was conducted to observe the effect of a certain amount of sucrose in a solution
on white potato cylinders. About five or six pieces of potato went into six different solutions that
were in increments of 2 m and were labeled by color. The point of this experiment was to see
which solutions were hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic to a piece of potato.
Expectations/Hypothesis of the Experimental Outcome
I think that the potatoes with no change will be in an isotonic solution, the potatoes in a hypertonic
solution will shrink, and the

The Theme Of Lies And Truths In The Drawer Boy
After reading the novel The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey the universal theme that I believe is
portrayed is lies, and truths. These themes are developed by confusion regarding the truth,
confronting the truth, and the consequences that lying can have. The books theme is something
that readers can relate towards in their own everyday lives, making it a universal theme. The
play begins with the introduction of the characters Angus, Morgan, and Miles. Angus and
Morgan are two best friends who own a farm in Ontario, and Miles is an actor who is in a play
about farming. As the story continues the reader gets a deeper look into the life of the farmers
and sees that they haven t lived an easy life. One day Miles arrives at the farm looking to learn
more about farm life for a play that he is starring in. He ends up being invited to stay at the farm
to help out so that he can see what working on a farm is all about. One of the first farm chores
that Miles does is driving a tractor. However, he told Morgan that he had driven a tractor before
when he hadn t and ended up backing up over Morgan. This is one event in the story where the
universal theme of lies is displayed. When Miles lied about knowing how to drive the tractor, the
consequence was backing over Morgan. Although his injuries were not very severe Miles lie could
ve resulted in a much worse outcome. Another example of the universal theme in the novel is when
Morgan lies to Angus about what happened many years ago during

Annotated Bibliography On The Security Essay
security, although these schemes are still not semantically secure. So far, deterministic PEKS
schemes can guarantee semantic security only if the keyword space has a high min entropy.
Otherwise, an adversary can extract the encrypted keyword by a simple encrypt and test attack.
Hence, deterministic PEKS schemes are applicable to applications where the keyword space is
of a high min entropy. III. PROBLEM DEFINITION One of the prominent works to accelerate
the search over encrypted keywords in the public key setting is deterministic encryption
introduced by Bellare et al. An encryption scheme is deterministic if the encryption algorithm is
deterministic. Bellare et al. focus on enabling search over encrypted keywords to be as efficient
as the search for unencrypted keywords, such that a ciphertext containing a given keyword can be
retrieved in time complexity logarithmic in the total number of all ciphertexts. This is reasonable
because the encrypted keywords can form a tree like structure when stored according to their
binary values. Search on encrypted data has been extensively investigated in recent years. From a
cryptographic perspective, the existing works fall into two categories, i.e., symmetric searchable
encryption and public key searchable encryption. The disadvantages of the system is, Existing
semantically secure PEKS schemes take search time linear with the total number of all cipher texts.
This makes retrieval from large scale databases prohibitive. Therefore,

Understanding the Motivation off Alcibiades
Alcibiades was a highly motivated individual with a drive to gain power by any means necessary.
Alcibiades upbringing conditioned him, one might say entitled him, to power and influence, and
his self serving actions had the sole objectives of surpassing his predecessors and achieving glory.
To understand the motivation of Alcibiades, we must look to his upbringing and character to
examine his sense of entitlement. Alcibiades was born into an aristocratic Athenian family so he
would have been pro oligarchy; he was the son of Cleinias (Thuc 5.43) who was slain at the battle
of Coroneia (Plut. Alcibiades 1). After the death of his father, Alcibiades was placed under the
guardianship of Pericles (Plut. Alcibiades 1), who was leader of the state and the most influential
man of his day (Thuc 1.127). The connection that Alcibiades shared with Pericles, enabled him to
enjoy the company of influential figures throughout Athens, and consequently; they desired him. It
was said, many well born men were swarming around Alcibiades and seeking his company (Plut.
Alcibiades 4), being held in such high regard by the elite would have boosted his sense of self
importance, gained him influence and bring about great personal fame (Thu. 6.16). Alcibiades was
a pleasure seeker who surrounded himself with admirers that enthralled him with flattery and favors
(Plut. Alcibiades 4), these indulgences soon lead to him rebelling against anyone who would try to
influence or admonish him (Plut.

Jack Kerouac’s On The Road
Impact of Dean on Sal s Identity in On the Road

looks around the unfamiliar room, Sal realizes that he doesn t understand his own identity. Identity
lost, he states I was half way across America, at the dividing line between the East of my youth
and the West of my future. He has lost the calming influence of his aunt, and Dean and partners are
not around to feed his wild streak. The only clues to his identity are to be found in the strange motel
room. This appeal to emotion gives the reader personal hints to identify with.

Without exception, it changes every time he encounters new circumstances and surroundings. On
the way to visit Old Bull Lee in New Orleans during part II, chapter 6, Sal is driving while Dean
and Mary Lou are asleep. He is alone with time to think to himself, and he does not know what he
is doing or where he is going. The style of the passage intrigues the reader; All alone in the night
I had my own thoughts and held the car to the white line in the holy road. Dean is no longer
mentally present to lead him and feed his identity. Sal has no one to show him the way and he is
forced to cling to his physical surroundings for comfort. His entire existence centers around
following the straight line in the road. In chapter 7, after the stay with Old Bull, Dean is ready to
leave and hit the road again. Sal is compelled to go with him although he would really like to stay
with Bull awhile. Again, Kerouac uses emotion to move the reader, because most people have been
torn between following one of two friends at some point.
In chapter 8 of part two, Dean steals gas and oil as Sal runs into the station and takes bread and
cheese while the owners are in back eating dinner. Sal seems to be adapting his personality to that
of Dean s. Earlier in the novel, when Montana Slim asks him to steal from strangers in alley ways,
Sal doesn t seem to want anything to do with it. This schizophrenic behavior appears throughout the
book, prohibiting one from understanding who Sal is

Persuasive Essay On Drinking And Driving
Drunk Driving Kills Drunk driving is a dangerous problem that continues to take hundreds of lives
each year. Is drinking and driving worth one s life? This one decision, which may not seem
important at the time, can end badly. Drunk driving is a huge problem in America. Driving under
the influence of alcoholis a serious cause to road accidentsand deaths. Drunk driving is dangerous
for not only the person under the influence, but for the drivers and passengers as well. An
intoxicated person endangers everyone on the road. Many people that drink and drive are under
aged teens. Underage drinking is a tremendous problem in the United States. In the article of
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, many young people drink alcohol by the age
of fifteen. Thirty three percent of teens have had at least one drink. In 2015, 7.7 million teen s
ages 13 20 reported that they drank alcohol in the past month. Many teens consume ninety
percent of alcohol by binge drinking. Binge drinking is an excessive amount of alcohol in a
short period of time. An image of a picture shows how drinking and driving can be dangerous.
The visual argument shown is of a solider in his mid thirties, putting up a sign saying, Don t

not been recognized. For his job well done, I am willing to make those aspects known. The Life of
James Madison James Madison, also known as The Father on the Constitution , contributed to
quite a few intellectual events in the United States. Madison was an intelligent man with bright
ideas that helped this country become the one it is today. With all his appearances to debates,

government we have today and some of our basic rights. James Madison s life and times, before,
during, and after presidency is now becoming more well known and interpreted. James Madison
was born on March 16, 1751, in Port Conway, Virginia, to Colonel James Madison Sr. and
Eleanor Rose Conway. Madison and his siblings grew up into the Christian religion since his

Comparison Of Mountains Of Collioure By Andre Derain
What I initially noticed when looking at the landscape painting Mountains of Collioure(1908), by
Andre Derain was that the brushstroke is like of the impressionists, in which the strokes are short
and thin, as well as seldom use of the color black. It is also highly contrasted in color, with many
hues of various colors. I also notice that if it were painted by a kid it makes sense that the paintings
colors would not match the natural colors of the actual subject matter within the painting. The
mountains are off colored from the natural colorusing different tones and shades of orange and blue,
while the trees are somewhat natural, with the use of darkened orange, and intermediate hues such

Work Environment and Health
One of the most important aspects of any company is the working conditions and environment
comfort of the workers. Workers whose environmental is not designed to suit the kind of task they
perform tend to develop health conditions that may affect their lives. Data entry using the keyboard
in a computer is one of the tasks which require a well established and a comfortable environment.
Failure to provide this may result in several ill health conditions. One of such condition is carpal
tunnel syndrome. This discussion will, therefore, focus on the factors those results to such
conditions and the possible ways to make a working environment for individuals ... Show more

There is also a need for an individual to ensure that a person takes a regular break to give a hand
opportunity to relax and release from the constant straining. The positioning of the computer,
especially the mouse, should be in a flat and comfortable place that ensures a soft and a swift
movement that reduces any chances of strains by the hand. This will also help individuals to work
for a long time without feeling any pain in hand. Based on the research on the repeated stress injury,
the company needs to improve the working environment for the data entry operations. In this case,
there is a need to develop the kinds of furniture in the office to ensure that they suit the task
performance in that environment. The furniture should make sure that the monitor is well positions
to enable the operator to sit upright. The mouse should also be placed in a position that allows the
person to relax his hands while typing and while handling the mouse. These improvements are
aimed at increasing productivity of workers without affecting their health in the office. In
conclusion, the increasing rate of poor health conditions in the rooms due to improper office
environment setup is a problem that might result in low productivity among the workers. It is
therefore important to ensure that the management provides good furniture that prevents too much
straining by their employees.

The Sin of Pride Exposed in King Lear, and The Duchess of Malfi In this brief monograph, we shall be hunting down and examining various creatures from the bestiary of Medieval/Renaissance thought. Among these are the fierce lion of imperious, egotistical power, a pair of fantastic peacocks, one of vanity, one of preening social status, and the docile lamb of humility. The lion and the peacocks are of the species known as pride, while the lamb is of an entirely different, in fact antithetical race, that of humility and forgiveness. The textual regions we shall be exploring include the diverse expanses, from palace to heath, of William Shakespeare, the dark, sinister Italy of John Webster, and the perfumed lady s chambers of Ben ... Another aspect of pride which appears in King Lear, as well as Webster s The Duchessof Malfi, is that of the preoccupation with reputation and social status. In the latter play, it can be seen in Ferdinand s speech to the Duchess in act III, scene ii, in which he tells her an allegorical story about reputation, love, and death (See appendix). Given the Duke s choleric disposition and unnaturally obsessive fixation on his sister s sexual activity, it is not altogether certain how far his speech is motivated by pride and how much it is a product of another mortal sin (not treated here), lust. All the same, it is indicative of an overall world view in which pride of place is woven into the social fabric of the time. (Indeed, things are not so very different today, 400 years later Plus ca change...) The Duchess offers up her own little allegorical tale at the end of act IV, scene iii in which she relates the fable of the salmon and the dogfish to her murderer to be, Bosola (see appendix). This speech is the perfect companion piece and point/counterpoint style retort to Ferdinand s paranoid parable. Where Ferdinand casts death as a mere supporting character in his story, the Duchess more rightly sees death, the net, as the great leveler, bringing an end to the foolish, proud scorn of great men for those born ... • 5. The Importance Of High School Life Reminiscing the anecdote of my high school life had shaped me to be a responsible person. Missing a place for further education after completing grade 10 was a complete failure. I had to go back to the village and live as a villager with norm subsistence lifestyle. My family s perception towards me is for me to pass grade 6 exam to the high school(8 10), and then to national high school and eventually to collegeor university. When I do this, I will promote my family s name as well as my clan s name. My family envisaged me on this path when I started school. Their expectation is that after completing all my studies, I will eventually find a job in an urban place (town or city) and then provide for their needs. I will then pay for my siblings schools fees, my cousin s school fees and give money to them. I was obligated culturally to support my family and the clan which is compulsory in order to be given a share of wealth in the clan. I need to provide for all these obligations so that I will have a land with the clan s consent. I was the eldest in the family and automatically qualify me to be the leader in the family. This was the tradition for first born male to take charge of family s responsibilities. The leadership expectation towards me was high (Pavlovich, 2017). • 7. A Part Of Epistemology Is The Study Of Knowledge A part of epistemology is the study of knowledge. The study of knowledge deals with various questions such as: What is considered as knowledge? How is knowledge acquired? What are the limits of knowledge? (Steup, 2014). Knowledge can be acquired in two ways as there are two types of knowledge. One type of knowledge is a posteriori knowledge which is gained through experience. The other type of knowledge is a priori knowledge which is based on reasoning and independent of experience. Through the limits of knowledge, the problem of scepticism arises. Scepticism is concerned with the existence of knowledge. A sceptic is a person who doubts whether we have any knowledge. It has been suggested that we do not, or cannot, know anything, or at least that we do not know as much as we think we do. Such a view is called skepticism. (Turncellito). There are four types of sceptics: Radical, Local, Cartesian and Humean. A radical sceptic says that we do not and cannot have knowledge, knowledge is therefore unobtainable. A local sceptic suggests that a person can have knowledge in certain subjects and not in others. For example, I can have knowledge about my thoughts but not about the thoughts of others. We will learn about Cartesian scepticism through Descartes First Meditation. Descartes (1641) talks about how whatever he has considered true until now has come to him through his senses and these senses have occasionally deceived him. Problems Faced By Globalization And Technological Advances Globalisation and technological advances are pushing the managers to solve problems relating to the functionality of the organisation. Owing to the several different and uncertain consequences associated with the possible problem solving actions, it is critical for the manager to choose an effective methodology, whilst considering the structure and dynamics of the organisation (Fischer, Greiff, and Funke, 2012). From a managerial point of view, taking a decision to solve problems is not an easy task. The problem solving process in organisations is often led by uncertainty and vagueness, combined with the managers difficulties in developing an appropriate problem definition, inadequate method selection or application, lack of knowledge, or various other internal and external factors (Szarucki, 2013). With the fast paced work culture, managers tend to ignore minor problems which might later have a serious adverse effect on the organisation. Based on the suggestions made by Nickerson, Yen, and Mahoney (2011) for effective problem solving, the first step I would take towards solving an organisational problem, is to accept the fact that the problem exists. My next target would be adopting an effective methodology to go about the problem solving process. If death is not eventually caused as a direct result of tobacco products, they can still result in various other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline, but also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both categories. Cigarettes and other items such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness each year in the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents, and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on tobacco products. Addiction All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these products. Nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled, smoked, or chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce adrenaline within the human body. IMS Health predicts the growth to maximize at 90% of the prescription market (Salazar, 2015). Though there is not much room between generic drugs currently representing 83% of prescription drugs and the predicted 90% maximum, the next twelve months appear a safe investment period for the generic drugindustry when considering the currently growth rate. Many factors influence success in the generic drug industry; among the influences is the need for an alternative to higher priced brand name drugs. This was the original purpose of generic drugs. Initially, generics offered a considerable price benefit over brand drugs with a reduction of at least 60% for specialty drugs and 80% for oral prescriptions (Taylor, 2015). Recently, the rising cost of generics has drawn much scrutiny. Many factors contribute to the increased cost of generics. According to Salazar, increased product quality regulations, less new products entering the market, inflation, and the increased number of former prescription drugs being offered over the counter have all lead to higher generic drug pricing. An additional motive for the increased cost of generics may be pure greed. Price hikes as exorbitant as 5000% have occurred in recent months in some generic drugs. Taylor attributes the price hikes to the increased need for innovation and the lack of competition in generic drug manufacturers. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Analysis Of Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony Andrew Burden 4/24/16 Allison Smith (TA) Music 101 Sergei Prokofiev s Symphony No.1, Classical Symphony, a favorite to many, is a major piece of the orchestral repertoire. The piece was composed from 1916 to 1917 and was in a new genre; neo classism. This new genre was due the reaction to the expressionism and the perceived formlessness of the late romantic music during the time period (Whittall). In fact, the Classical Symphony is one of the earliest works of music using the aesthetic of the neo classical movement, and it is possibly the earliest symphony to do so (Green). Despite being written in the early 20th century during the midst of the Russian revolution, Prokfiev stayed true to the important aspects of pre romantic instrumentation and structural, harmonic, and melodic styles. As previously stated, the Classical Symphony was written in the midst of the Russian Revolutions in 1917. These revolutions were the cause of major turning points in Russian history and Prokofiev was stuck at the heart of it in Petrograd, the current day Saint Petersburg. Trouble during this period would begin with protests of thousands , escalating with food fights and fires until tsar Nicholas was abdicated (Nice, 130). To begin with, betrayal is a strong emotion that can lead to hatred and more emotions. Kantorek talks the boys into joining the warbecause he thought that it would be fun and a good experience for them. Another way of betrayal can be the unspoken kind like how when the boys first go to the front they find coffins and they think that the government has little hopes for people to survive. • 28. Calaveras Vinesyard Case Warute Phanthumkmol Calaveras Vineyards Case Dear Dr. Lynna Martinez, After reviewing your projections of Calaveras Vineyards, I used the adjusted present value method to come up with the value of the company. With this method, I assume that the whole firm is financed only through equity. Therefore, when calculating the free cash flow, debt was not taken into account. Despite that, the net present value of interest shields is added back to compensate the debt in the capital structure. With this method, the company is valued at $9.62 million. In order to assess Calaveras value, I calculated the free cash flow from 1994 to 1998. The free cash flow from each year derived from adding Earnings before Interest and Taxes,... Not only that you trained in family owned winery and distillery, but you also gained a lot of experience in champagne and white wine technology at the Moet et Chandon installation in Epernay when you took trips to Europe. Please note that if you decide to buy the company, you might become more conservative. Currently, you are the vice president/general manager and winemaker of Calaveras. If you buy the company as proposed, you will own 85% of the company. This means that you will relate to the company in two ways; as a manager, and also an owner. Therefore, I am assuming that you will become more conservative because it s always better to expect less, so you wouldn t forecast too positively. • 29. Fortunato Short Story Analysis This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening. The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words. Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend, while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate. Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer. Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lab 3 Observing Osmosis in Living Cells: Introduction Background Information Living cells may be thought of as microscopically small bags of solutions contained within semipermeable membranes. A cell placed in a solution more dilute than itself (a hypotonic solution) will expand as water enters it. Under such conditions the cell may burst. A cell placed in a solution that is in equilibrium (an isotonic solution) will remain the same and no water will enter nor leave the cell. Description of the Experiment This experiment was conducted to observe the effect of a certain amount of sucrose in a solution on white potato cylinders. About five or six pieces of potato went into six different solutions that were in increments of 2 m and were labeled by color. • 34. The Theme Of Lies And Truths In The Drawer Boy After reading the novel The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey the universal theme that I believe is portrayed is lies, and truths. These themes are developed by confusion regarding the truth, confronting the truth, and the consequences that lying can have. The books theme is something that readers can relate towards in their own everyday lives, making it a universal theme. The play begins with the introduction of the characters Angus, Morgan, and Miles. Angus and Morgan are two best friends who own a farm in Ontario, and Miles is an actor who is in a play about farming. As the story continues the reader gets a deeper look into the life of the farmers and sees that they haven t lived an easy life. One day Miles arrives at the farm looking to learn more about farm life for a play that he is starring in. He ends up being invited to stay at the farm to help out so that he can see what working on a farm is all about. One of the first farm chores that Miles does is driving a tractor. However, he told Morgan that he had driven a tractor before when he hadn t and ended up backing up over Morgan. This is one event in the story where the universal theme of lies is displayed. When Miles lied about knowing how to drive the tractor, the consequence was backing over Morgan. Although his injuries were not very severe Miles lie could ve resulted in a much worse outcome. Another example of the universal theme in the novel is when Morgan lies to Angus about what happened many years ago during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Annotated Bibliography On The Security Essay security, although these schemes are still not semantically secure. So far, deterministic PEKS schemes can guarantee semantic security only if the keyword space has a high min entropy. Otherwise, an adversary can extract the encrypted keyword by a simple encrypt and test attack. Hence, deterministic PEKS schemes are applicable to applications where the keyword space is of a high min entropy. III. PROBLEM DEFINITION One of the prominent works to accelerate the search over encrypted keywords in the public key setting is deterministic encryption introduced by Bellare et al. An encryption scheme is deterministic if the encryption algorithm is deterministic. Bellare et al. focus on enabling search over encrypted keywords to be as efficient as the search for unencrypted keywords, such that a ciphertext containing a given keyword can be retrieved in time complexity logarithmic in the total number of all ciphertexts. This is reasonable because the encrypted keywords can form a tree like structure when stored according to their binary values. Search on encrypted data has been extensively investigated in recent years. From a cryptographic perspective, the existing works fall into two categories, i.e., symmetric searchable encryption and public key searchable encryption. The disadvantages of the system is, Existing semantically secure PEKS schemes take search time linear with the total number of all cipher texts. This makes retrieval from large scale databases prohibitive. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Understanding the Motivation off Alcibiades Alcibiades was a highly motivated individual with a drive to gain power by any means necessary. Alcibiades upbringing conditioned him, one might say entitled him, to power and influence, and his self serving actions had the sole objectives of surpassing his predecessors and achieving glory. To understand the motivation of Alcibiades, we must look to his upbringing and character to examine his sense of entitlement. Alcibiades was born into an aristocratic Athenian family so he would have been pro oligarchy; he was the son of Cleinias (Thuc 5.43) who was slain at the battle of Coroneia (Plut. Alcibiades 1). After the death of his father, Alcibiades was placed under the guardianship of Pericles (Plut. Alcibiades 1), who was leader of the state and the most influential man of his day (Thuc 1.127). The connection that Alcibiades shared with Pericles, enabled him to enjoy the company of influential figures throughout Athens, and consequently; they desired him. It was said, many well born men were swarming around Alcibiades and seeking his company (Plut. Alcibiades 4), being held in such high regard by the elite would have boosted his sense of self importance, gained him influence and bring about great personal fame (Thu. 6.16). Alcibiades was a pleasure seeker who surrounded himself with admirers that enthralled him with flattery and favors (Plut. Alcibiades 4), these indulgences soon lead to him rebelling against anyone who would try to influence or admonish him (Plut. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The style of the passage intrigues the reader; All alone in the night I had my own thoughts and held the car to the white line in the holy road. Dean is no longer mentally present to lead him and feed his identity. Sal has no one to show him the way and he is forced to cling to his physical surroundings for comfort.
