Fiji Community Observation Report
Additionally, Fiji presents numerous opportunities to volunteer in the community and conduct
research within marine eco systems. One passion of mine has always been assisting the
disadvantaged and understanding the steps that I can personally take to reduce the various global
disparities. In particular, I am extremely fascinated with aquatic species and those on the edge of
extinction or in extreme danger. As a child, one of my most treasured experiences was when I had
the incredible opportunity to swim with dolphins in Turks and Caicos, and learned about their habit
and imminent threats. Specifically, in Fiji, 5 out of the 7 species of marine turtles are severely
endangered due to over exploitation and immense habitat destruction. Compared... Show more

A concept derived from meditation, mindfulness concerns being present and observant in a
nonjudgmental way. The essence of being mindful revolves around noticing new things; not being
consumed in past thoughts or future worries. When an individual is introduced to a new
environment, the brain cannot help noticing and reflecting on the novel stimuli. However, once this
natural mindfulness wears off, individuals form routines and habits that promote ignorance to their
surroundings. Therefore, a trip that forces me to be engaged and mindfully involved in my own life
will become a valuable souvenir to take home, long after the vacation has ceased. The distinct
remoteness and unknown associated with Fiji makes it the ultimate destination to increase my

Essay On Front Range
Although Front Range Community College is a fantastic school and much improvement has
been made, Front Range could make an improvement by having a higher standard for teacher
regulations. This could be monitored and improved by, a teacher workshop, monitoring number
of complaints, holding a class interview, having a probation period, and monitor pass and fail
percentage. Over the years of schooling I ve had quite a few horrid teachers and if there had been a
system like I stated above, I would ve got what I paid for. I know personally after paying four
hundred a class, I want a teacher who knows what they are actually doing and if kids fail or if
there are complaints then I believe there should be some type of consequence.
For starters, I believe that teachers should be required to take a teacher workshop course about the
class prior to teaching. This will allow them for personal growth on the particular ... Show more

Teacher regulations are a subject that has yet to be touched. If teachers attended a teacher
workshop it would give them the ability to get a refresher on the matter and would excel them with
their teaching. Monitoring the number of complaints in a classroom could be a useful tool, find out
if this subject suits the teacher. Having a physical interview with the students could give real live
opinions that would be falsely transmitted through paper. Probation periods for teachers would
make them work harder and make them feel better after they accomplished getting the job. Pass and
fail percentage is a subject that shouldn t be taken lightly, teachers should know that they need to
work hard and make sure every student is getting the proper teaching that they paid for. All in all,
Front Range is a fantastic school and all the improvements made have been a necessity but teacher
regulations are an improvement that should be looked upon and

Claudia Macteer s Point Of View Changes Throughout The Novel
The point of view changes throughout the book. There is an omniscient point of view, but the
book also gives Claudia MacTeer s point of view. There are many other characters that give their
point of view throughout the story, but other than Claudia; the other main point of view given is
Pecola Breedlove s point of view. This story revolves around the end of the Great Depression. It
begins describing the familyas being a poorer black family. Claudia and Frieda MacTeer have to

Heroic Perspective
Challenging elements of the heroic and tragic perspective from a cultural and political level raise
tensions in culture and individuals. An artist, for example, will create their entire lives but go
through different stages of expressions that make art in both an heroic and tragic perspective. The
artist will continue to do work for when it s still interesting to them and to others, until not is when
they develop change for new meaning in their lives. They create continuously in various ways
because they don t stop shaping their lives as they different periods depending on how the time
element and society differs around them. Life has no object meaning and individual will get

Following this is the death of Greek tragedy as we see the dionysian be eliminated from the
greek world and the three waves of exhaustion. Relating back to Homer s stylized poems that
initially created the greek world into a tragic culture perspective demonstrated an individual
lived in someone else s world or fantasy. Poems were being incorporated into the society and
structured based on these meanings in a hierarchical authority. Nietzsche found it sad that these
poems were used and people lived in someone else s world instead of their own. For example, in
society a hard working person such a farmer who would do all the manual labor while the
aristocrats decided upon the ways how institutions should be structured was living in someone
else s world. The poor worked hard and the rich stayed rich; which continues today if Nietzsche
saw it now. A world of heroes is unstable, who engaged in agonistic struggle in a moral, political
and cultural level. The culture didn t change much as most us live in someone else s world, not
making our own decisions in life. Power isn t available for some individuals that they could not
redefine it or assert it. Consequences leading to an individual aspect and the elements that lead up
to the elimination of the Dionysian from the Greek world. Nietzsche states, Greek tragedy met
her death in a different way from all the older sister arts: she died tragically by her own hand, after
irresolvable conflicts, while the other died happy and peaceful at an advanced age . Main reason
tragedy dies is because metaphysics eliminates the dionysian. Real implications relating to agon of
instability from heroic and tragic culture because they keep getting caught up between the tension
of apollonian and dionysian as it demonstrates irresolvable conflicts. Exhaustion proved it led to the
death of tragedy as truth will exist. Instability

Nuclear Contamination And The Atomic Bomb Testing
We retired early that evening, and slept well. With the pressure we had been under now
somewhat abated, we awoke the next morning rested and refreshed, ready for whatever the day
might bring. Stapleya and Wisceya were eager to see the wonders of Las Vegas. Estelle and Jill
had told them enough to pique their curiosity, although the fur girls insisted it was impossible
and we must be kidding them. Compared to their home world, I am sure our entire planet
seemed like an impossibility, so why they would balk at one more impossible thing, I could not
say. We pulled out of the motel parking lot before dawn and drove straight down Interstate 15
without stopping except to buy fuel or to answer nature s call. Although we had eschewed
Interstate highways in prior day s travels, we really had no choice now. Besides, we had no
reason to suspect Alex would be looking for us here. Passing through the St. George area, Estelle
remarked on the nuclear contamination in the area from the atomic bomb testing, and the many
diverse cases of cancer in the people living here then. Our extraterrestrial visitors became curious
as to those events which led us into a long discussion of warfare on Earth and the horrors it had
brought, and the worries and politics of Nuclear power. This occupied our conversation for many
miles as we lamented the missed potential, the waste and the suffering brought forth by the Nuclear
genie. We reached the Las Vegas metropolitan area without incident. Before leaving

Cuban and U.S. Relations
From the time, Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba tensions ran high between the Cuban
government and the United States government. Relations between Cuba and the United States grew
during Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations. Not as much during the Eisenhower
administration as the Kennedy administration did tensions between between the two countries
intensify. Kennedy faced many a different situations as President. He faced such situations like the
Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Tensions have mounted high for a long time

The training of the exiles took place towards the end of Eisenhower s term as President of the
United States. He took very few steps in the direction of having the exiles return to Cuba to
overthrow Castro. The training took place when President Eisenhower was leaving office and
President elect Kennedy was coming into office. Upon coming into office, President Kennedy
was told of the training of Cuban exiles in Guatemala by CIA director Allen Dulles. Kennedy
gave his approval for the training of the exiles to continue. He later went to the Joint Chiefs of
Staff to evaluate the situation. They came to the conclusion that even though the CIA was training
the exiles they wouldn t have a very good chance of succeeding in overthrowing the dictator of
Cuba. They felt that even to have a chance of success they would need the people still living in
Cuba, who were unhappy with the government, to rebel at the same time they were to come ashore
(Think Quest). After Kennedy had a meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff the President Guatemala
ordered the CIA and the Cuban exiles out of his country. Kennedy was forced to make a quick
decision. The president was then informed that the Cubans were receiving a shipment of fighter
crafts from the Soviets. After this President Kennedy got this news he gave the green light for the

Performance Appraisal and Employee Motivation
1.1. INTRODUCTION: Organization is run and steered by people. It is through people that
goals are set and objectives are realized. Today s working culture demands a great deal of
commitment and effort from the employees, who in turn naturally expect a great deal more from
their employers. The development of much more participative style of management in many
organizations is a positive step towards meeting such heightened expectations. This participative
style can be expressed in a variety of practical ways. For e.g.: work teams, quality circles, and of
course regular performance appraisals. The performance of the organization is dependent on sum
total of the performance of its employees. Thus the success of... Show more content on

Accurate Performance Review + Increase in salary Increase in motivation If nothing else, the
existence of an appraisal program indicates to an employee that in the organization is genuinely
interested in their individual performance and development. This alone can have a positive
influence on the employee motivation, sense of worth, commitment and belonging. The strength
and prevalence of this natural human desire for individual recognition shouldn t be overlooked.
Absenteeism and turnover rates in some organizations might be greatly reduced if more attention
were paid to it. Regular performance appraisal, at least, is a good start. In an organization it is
necessary to measure the performance of their employees and success of any organization can
almost always be tracked back to the level of motivation among its employees. So the study was
done to measure the impact of motivation after performance appraisal.
1.2. NEED OF THE STUDY: Performance appraisal is the important aspect in the organization to
evaluate the employee performance. It is needed for an organization to take decision regarding
salary revision, confirmation, promotion, transfer and demotion. It gives feedback information

Brookes University as an important milestone of my academic career. In this session I decided to
prepare research and analysis project and I chose the following topic: The business and financial
performance of an organization over a three year Period .
Reasons of choosing Specific Topic, Sector And Company: One of the most imperative reasons
that I chose this topic was that this topic was easier to understand. During my ACCA studies I read
different tools and techniques relating to the business and financial analysis so I was in a better
position to work on this area of topic. Another reason for selecting this topic was that I want to

On the basis of these tools and techniques, I will conclude the business and financial performance of
the company.
Research Questions:
What are the necessary skills i.e. analytical, technological required for preparation of this project?
How much time should be assigned to each part?
How will I gather the data related to the company which is reliable?
What are the internal strengths, weaknesses and external opportunities and threats faced by the

What is the impact of political, economic, social and technological factors on the performance of
the company?
How will I reach out a conclusion with the help of these tools and techniques? (Shane Johnson,

Overall Approach for the preparation of research and analysis project I planned my research
according to the limited amount of time available to me. I selected accounting and business

The Hanging
The story The Hanging is very depressing because of the tone of the story. It is also because of
the way the narrator describes everything around him and the actions of the other characters.
Like it says a puny wisp of a man, with a shaven head and vague liquid eyes . This is also
depressing because there is a man about to get hanged, and as the police officer realizes that he
is still human. This man is not dying, he is alive just as we were alive . This is what really
makes this story sad, cruel, and it even makes you think because everyone is human no matter
what they have done because we are all alive. Throughout the story the The hanging it really
becomes a miserable act of how the characters actions take a toll on the story. Like

Hilary Clinton s End
The circus that has captivated our attention for over a year has finally ceased. On Tuesday night,
the Presidential Election came to an end, with Trump coming out victorious. The three articles by
the New York Times depict how the majority of America felt before and after the election.
The first article, written the day before the election by Michael Barbaro, Ashley Parker and Amy
Chozick, was titled, Optimism From Hilary Clinton and Darkness From Donald Trump at Campaign
s End . The title of this piece oozed the confidence that Hilary Clinton would win the Presidential
Election. The article portrays the election as over, with Hilary Clinton coming out victorious.
Throughout the piece the authors used a story telling tone. For instance, they used embellishing
words like, frenzied, clashing, sprawling (Barbaro). The New York Times certainty of Hilary
winning is shown through multiple quotes. To illustrate this, the authors write about... Show more

years, you can hear the emotion seeping out in the words they choose. One example of this is when
they write, Trump s election was met with a mix of shock, uncertainty and some congratulations

Confucianism And The Conflicts Of The Han Dynasty Of...
The Han Dynasty of Ancient China was one of the most prominent and long lasting societies of the
time. However, they were not untouched by the ravages of the world, and despite their Confucius
roots, there was a war to be fought. The Salt and Iron debate is an example of how the
Confucianism of the time affected the strategy of the war. Should the government stick to their
principles, or protect their empire? When is the time to say enough is enough ?
In order to understand the debate, we must understand those who are arguing. The Scholars spent
years studying the word and policy of Confucius, then toured China spreading his ideas to every
household. The Confucius Scholars opposed the Salt and Iron policies of the Chinese government.

They asked why their people should have to suffer if it wasn t necessary. The bureaucrats were
also beginning to consider the possibility of fighting back, and to do so they would need soldier
and costly weaponry. Fighting back was becoming more attractive because of the severe cost of
bribing the Xiongnu, who were taking goods like gold, silk, and Princesses. There was a major
loss happening, and the only way to keep the country floating was through the monopolies. The
bureaucrats try explaining this to the Scholars, but are vehemently argued against because the trade
is steeped in greed.
In my opinion, the bureaucrats make a stronger case for the continuation of the Salt and Iron
monopolies. There must be an army, and walls to protect the country. If they aren t going to
fight, like the Scholars want, then there also needs to be money for bribes. If there is no money,
there is no way to protect the people of China. It is a situation where you have decided if your
morals come before the safety of those you care about. How far are you willing to go to protect
your people? The Scholars aren t willing to go all the way, and people will die because of it. Not
everyone has the same beliefs, so displaying them will not save you. The Scholars did not consider
the real harm that comes to the citizens when they cannot express themselves fully, not to mention
the harm

Correctional Officers are a very important part of the Justice System because it keeps high profile

living area and there are three additional floors that overlook the central living space that you
reach by inside stairs. Each level contains approximately 10 individual cells. Some information
was not available to us (the public) as it is confidential. Information such as how many Officers
work in a pod per shift. The inmates are served their meals in the central living space and it the
Correctional Officers job to count everything they take. Items such as jam containers, plastic knives
and forks are made into weapons by the ingenious inmates. After they are given their meals and
have had time to go to the gym, they are then put back into their cell for the night.
Working in a Correctional Facility is a very stressful environment. Everything is done by the

Since their skin is typically drier, they may not have the physical need to shower as often as they

The process of a daily sponge bath ensures that seniors who spend a lot of time in the bed are
properly lotioned and checked for bed sores. A full shower should be given at least once a week,
however, to prevent the build up of lotion and body oils. Perhaps most importantly, bathing and
showering a senior who is bedridden is an opportunity to share a gentle human touch. Moving
the arms and legs around and providing a short massage provides relief for still muscles. The
creaming of the body also provides essential human contact. For many seniors who spend most
of their time in a bed, this may be the only physical contact they get in the day. For seniors who
are able to provide much of their own bathing but simply need support, a shower is the last stand
of independence. It is time when they can just let the water wash away their cares for a moment.

Social science teaches that a person s self identity is a reflection of that which other people put on

Separation Anxiety As A Medical Condition

Opposing views The number of those suffering from separation anxiety has increased. The
disorder may have primed those who suffer from it to other forms of anxiety. Such as panic
disorders which is a psychiatric disorder in which debilitating anxiety and fear arise frequently and
without reasonable cause and agoraphobia which is Fear of places and situations that might cause

have different views on separation anxiety and where it belongs in children development. Some
Psychiatrist believes that separation anxiety is a result from the unconscious conflicts that are
internal (Bowlby N.D.). Viewing it from this point of view the fear of losing a mother by
separation is not regarding real danger. Freud considers the main experience of separation from
protecting the mother or caregiver the prototype situation of anxiety and compares it to generating
fear of separation experiences. In his opinion anxiety originates from two factors: physiological
fact begins at the time of birth but then first traumatic situation is separation from mother

Wearable Health Monitoring Devices Can Be Enhanced By...
There is an explosive growth in wearable computing devices over the past couple of years mostly
due to technological advances in smart devices. Although most of these are self care monitoring
devices the need for assisted living where a patient can be monitored continuously using these
devices are emerging fast. In a typical tracking system, various vital biological signals, fall risks
and changes in predetermined healthconditions are collected via sensors and shared with medical
professionals for intervention if necessary. Most popular applications of self care monitoring
include daily activity monitoring, emergency and fall detection, and rehabilitation. Despite these
useful applications, the paradigms such as autonomy, context awareness, and spontaneous
interactions are not well integrated into these existing systems yet.
Existing wearable health monitoring devices can be enhanced by adding adaptive biofeedback and
control capability. This will transform the current wearable health monitoring devices from a
passive monitoring device to a real time treatment assistive device. Such a device is capable of not
only collecting, storing, and monitoring raw and synthesised data similar to the current wearable
healthcare devices, but can also provide autonomous reconfiguration, controlled treatment processes
by using collected data to provide intelligent local and remote feedback with decision making.

home by members of the terrorist group Front de liberation du Quebec. The FLQ Manifesto
called for non democratic separation to be brought about by acts of terror. From 1963 to 1967,
the FLQ planted 35 bombs; from 1968 to 1970 they planted over 50 bombs. By the fall of 1970
the terrorist acts of the FLQ cells had claimed 6 lives. The kidnappers demands included the
release of a number of convicted or detained FLQ members and the broadcasting of the FLQ
Manifesto. The Manifesto was read on Radio Canada. Then, on October 10th, the Quebec minister
of justice guaranteed safe passage to anywhere in the world for the kidnappers in exchange for the

Under the sweeping authority of the act, 465 Canadians were so rounded up. A day later, on
Saturday October 17th, the body of Pierre Laporte was found stuffed in the trunk of a green
Chevrolet. In Ottawa, government sources said the FLQ assassinated Laporte because War
Measures was enacted. The tension that night was palpable. John Turner, the minister of justice,
looked distraught. In his office, Trudeau ministers Gerard Pelletier and Jean Marchand were
weeping openly at the death of an old friend and colleague. Early in December 1970, police
discovered the location of the kidnappers holding James Cross. He was released after his FLQ
captors were given safe passage to Cuba. Four weeks later Paul Rose and the kidnappers of Pierre
Laporte were found in the corner of a country basement. They were tried and convicted for
kidnapping and murder. The October Crisis was the first time in Canadian history the state itself,
both in Ottawa and in Quebec City, was held to ransom by extremists and terrorists. It was also the
first time, in peace time, that Ottawa invoked War Measures. It was a drastic step to take and one
laced with very dangerous side effects. In the guilt by association atmosphere engendered by War
Measures hysteria, the terrorism and extremism of the separatist FLQ tarnished all separatist
movements in Quebec. Also, Rene

The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay
Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article
discusses the growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in
1994 by Clive Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow
businessmen: Tim Morgan, Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable
airline in western Canada. Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare
but rich in culture to maintain its integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris
Air, the team developed a business plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an
integrative, financial model and business plan which included only three aircraft and features of
being: direct, cost effective, and short haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the
needed capital was raised and the foundation for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was
established and began rapidly integrating into eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success
posed an issue because even though it was centered on culture eventually its concept would fail; the
airline was growing very quickly and that could only mean that it would be difficult to maintain the
intimate focus while staying extremely profitable. Critical Analysis In 1999 many changes occurred
within the Canadian market of aviation. There was merging between successful and struggling
airlines, and even airlines that failed relatively

Uncertainties in Energy Policies Essay
Energy policy and plans are laid out with two kinds of objectives viz. Means objectives and Final
objectives. The final objectives are ultimate goals of reducing the negative impacts of climate
change and creating a sustainable human environment that is progressive. The means objectives are
intermediate steps laid out to achieve the final objective. There are three means objectives laid out
by MacKay that are commonly accepted viz. Environment/Safety (human dimension), Energy
security and Economic development. The Environment/Safety involves factors such as Green
House Gases (GHG s), NOx, SOx, ash, Hg, volatile organic compounds (VOC s), Particulate matter

Any such modeling in whole or part requires caution and humility, and the results are specific to the
model and its assumptions. They should not be endowed with a precision and certainty that is
simply impossible to achieve. The chief uncertainties with the impacts of climate change are
ignorance of time factor, technological advances, economics, policy, planning and society. These
include the difficulties of estimating the costs of technologies several decades into the future, as
well as the way in which fossil fuel prices evolve in the future. It is also hard to know how people
will respond to price changes.
Majority of current data uses time factors of different definitions that make such data hard to relate
from a reference line. For example is it possible to define the pre industrial era levels for health and
longevity of human life compared to current with respect to air pollution levels. Most data uses
probabilistic models to speculate for the variation in time. However, such models involve many
assumptions that inherently have uncertainties.
Technological advancements are hard to predict. The potential for, and costs of, technologies and
measures to cut emissions across different sectors is studied to weigh the impacts. Consider the
case nuclear fusion which is being researched extensively since past 30 years or so but is still

Hiring Independent Contractors
Engaging independent contractors can be beneficial to employers in various aspects especially to
small business owners. Although hiring independent contractors require higher pay, employers
are more likely to save money by doing so. Because when businesses hire them, they may not be
eligible for benefits such as health insurance or paid for taking time off work, they are not
provided coverage by the worker s compensation insurance, and they will be responsible for
submitting their own income taxes. In addition, it also lowers the administrative costs because
payroll taxes, CPP and EI do not have to be withheld or remitted. Whereas, when employers hire an
employee, there are various expenses that come along, including the cost of employer contributed...

Hiring independent contractors would lead to losing some control over your workers since
employers cannot control how they perform their task because you can t closely monitor their
work, unlike employees. You can guide them to how you want a particular job to be done, but
usually they will run their business their way. Since they enjoy autonomy to decide how to do the
job at their best for which they have been hired. (Forbes, 2006) Independent contractors are hired
as a short term worker, which means that they might not be working with the same company for
another project the next time. Since, they usually operate on a first come, first serve basis, which
can become inconvenient and disruptive for employers if they want to work with the same
contractor for all of their projects. In addition, different contractors may perform their job in a
different manner, which can lead to various results from each contractor. Therefore, hiring
employees would be a better option for such employers. Another disadvantage is that because they
are freelancers and work with various employers, they would only focus on promoting their brands
but not the employers. Furthermore, when an employee is injured at the workplace, employers use
the worker s compensation insurance program to compensate for the injuries so that employees do
not sue them for the damages. However,

Global Wine War 2009-New World Versus Old
Introduction In the 1960s, 1970s or even 1980s, if you ask someone, which countries produce the
best wine in the world? They would have said France, Italy or Spain. However, if you ask someone
the same question nowadays, the answer would be different. The new wine industry players such as
Australia, the United States and Chile are changing the global industry structure, leading the global
industry trend, and challenging the traditional winemakers by introducing innovations at every
stage of the value chain. This article analyzed the development of global wine industry from the

The economic impact of these innovations largely decreased the production costs of the New World
comparing with the Old.
Changed Marketing Model
In addition to the innovations of grape growing and winemaking, New World also innovated in
packaging and marketing.
They developed collapsible plastic bag and replaced cork stoppers with screw caps to reduce
shipping costs, to save storage space and to avoid the defect of corks.
They learned the value of differentiating their products and making them more appealing to palates
unaccustomed to wine. These experiments provided valuable lessons in branding and marketing.
Some experienced marketers such as Coca Cola, NestlГ©, Pillsbury and Seagram entered the wine
industry and left behind the consumer focused attitudes and the sophisticated marketing skills.
The large New World companies typically controlled the full value chain, extracting margins at
every level and retaining bargaining power with increasingly concentrated retailers.
These changes brought more profits, more recognition of consumers, more market share and more
marketing experience to New World companies.
Global Competition between New World and Old With the intensifying competition between New
World and Old, significant changes happened during the last quarter of the 20th century made the
competition increasingly fierce.

Examples Of Realism In Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad
In order to understand the world politics in each way, we have to learn various international
relations theory because it provides a conceptual framework, which is used to analyse international
relations. Realism, liberalism, constructivism are one of the most well known theory. Breaking Bad
is an American television series. It narrates a life of Walter White, a high school chemistry with
lung cancer. He and his former student, Jesse Pinkman, try to produce and sell crystal meth to

that he can make a lot of money from him by producing and selling meth, his security comes
first. In that moment, he does not care about how much money that he can earn in the future
because if he dies, money will not be important anymore. Thus, he tries to convince Walter to

Consequently, they try to make a plan to kill this erratic violent drug dealer. Both do not

Irony In The Open Window By Saki
As Andros Pope had written, The Open Window by Saki is a slice of life story of irony that is
typical of Saki . The characters of Vera and Mrs Sapleton are witty, while that of Framton Nuttel
matches its hypochondriac temper. Jointly they cultivate a story that exemplifies how chaos takes
place in communication due to clever falsification. It ruins Framton s politenes to Mrs Sappleton,
disorders Mrs Sappleton s hospitality to Framton in the name of her old familiarity, distort the
living in that household as dead, mis introduces Mrs Sappleton as a well trodden woman, assures
the whole housekeeping that Framton is mad, and replaces friendship and goodwill by horror and

Injustice In Letter From Birmingham Jail
When injustice is in place we as citizens must react, and this is exactly what Martin Luther King
Jr. did. Letter from Birmingham Jail is a letter written by Martin Luther King Jr. while he was in
jail. King was in jail for partaking in protests against segregation. King s clergymen have recently
called him out for his actions, stating that they are unwise and untimely. King then goes on to state
why he thinks his actions are wise and timely. He then goes on talking about the unjustness in
Birmingham at the time. King at the beginning tried to negotiate with the Birmingham community
to stop segregation, but it ended up going nowhere. He ended up using nonviolent direct action
which this started to make a difference. Martin Luther King Jr. s reasoning and evidence of his
actions are very persuasive. The clergymen stated that King s actions of taking nonviolent direct
actions is wrong and he should have negotiated with Brimingham. King think s that direct actions
like, sit ins and marches, were really the only option. King writes, The purpose of our direct
action program is to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to
negotiation, (Pg 2, Paragraph 6). So, King does agree that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What I Learned In Mathematics Class
Remember being taught something new in a mathematics class and thinking to yourself, when am I
ever going to use this in life? Sure, not every mathematical theory taught in class will be used in
your career, but from my experience, many of the skills learned in mathematics are frequently
utilized each day. While mathematics may not be everyone s favorite subject, I found it to be not
only the subject I use the most outside of school, but the one that I enjoy the most, which is why
mathematics is my favorite subject. As a mathematics major, the concept that most people overlook
is that I did not choose to study mathematics because I do well at it; I chose to study mathematics
because it makes me smarter. In fact, all throughout junior high and high school I was in remedial
mathematics classes and worse, I did not even place into a freshman year mathematics class in high
school. I had to re take 8th grade mathematics. However, something about mathematics excited me.
Maybe it was the fact that mathematics never came easy to me and I wanted to prove to myself that
not only could I pass mathematics classes, I could actually understand and excel at them. For me,
mathematics is not about the arbitrary numbers, trivial solutions, meaningless formulas, or
repetitive computation: it is about the progress of knowledge and human understanding. I believe
that there are two different ways in which the world develops; the first is through the advancement
of history and human

When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the
revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for
business people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border towns all had some
appeal to these persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from
the original route to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route
from Buffalo to Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These
towns would need to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major
problem because the people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them
made their income based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from
not wanting the Canal to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they
depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to
other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore
people weren t able to move through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway
through these areas. The Canal also was a much cheaper source of transportation that was used by
residents, tourists, emigrants, and workers during this time. Evangelical preachers used the artificial

Comparison Of Ethos And Pathos In Advertising
In today s age, advertisements are found in almost every situation. These advertisements are found
in a multitude of different places, including places such as billboards, newspapers, and on the
television. Advertisements are most successful if they incorporate ethos, pathos, and logos into the
message they are trying to present. Ethos is the credibility of an advertisement, pathosis the
emotional appealof an advertisement, and logos is the logic found in the advertisement. This paper
will show the similarities and differences in pathos, logos, and ethos found in two separate
Budweiser advertisements.
Ethos, pathos, and logos are all rhetorical appeals, meaning that they are used to assist the speaker
or writer in harnessing rhetoric. Clark (2016) considers rhetoric as a tool meant for persuasion as
well as for creating effective arguments. Rhetoric became extremely popular during the golden age
of Greece, and most elite young men in Greek city states such as Athens were trained to utilize
rhetoric to their fullest abilities (Clark, 2016). Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, believed that
rhetoricians those who used rhetoric to influence and sway opinions used rhetoric irresponsibly
(Clark, 2016). Rhetoric certainly did not die out with the passing of time and is still found in today
s modern era.
Of these three appeals, pathos is the most prevalent in both advertisements. An inherent form of
pathos in the Budweiser commercial was the relationship between a puppy and

Freedman Research Paper
A freedman or freedwoman is a former slave who has been released from slavery, usually by
legal means. Historically, slaves were freed either by manumission (granted freedom by their
owner) or emancipation (granted freedom as part of a larger group). The life of a freedman
changed in the years 1865 through 1896 in many different ways. Socially the amounts of
segregation intensity increased dramatically. Politically freedman could vote, there was what s
known as The African AmericanCongress , and the 15th amendment was created. Economically
sharecropping was growing in popularity.
Segregation is separating a certain person from a larger group of people based on what they look
like, for instance an african american person vs a white person. Segregation was shown in many
different ways like, signs that would get put up by a drinking fountain with an arrow pointing one
way for whites and an arrow pointing another way for colored people. In 1896 the case Plessy v.

Exploring Biographical Knowledge Into The Daily Routine...
The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily
routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that
impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study,
considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of peoplewith dementia in
a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the
study considered.
Discussion
The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in
dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in
long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities
this study indicates a number of benefits.
First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a
person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of
the resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a
patient. The uniqueness of person s needs and values can only be understood and adequately
addressed by knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life
experiences the staff were able to see not a mean and loud woman but somebody who expresses her
fear of water getting into her ears, or attachment to

Compare And Contrast The Blind Side Movie And Movie
It all depends on who you are, where you come from. The Blind Side is a film based on true
events about a boy named Michael who had a bad family life and nowhere to go. He was
discriminated against because of who he was, the color of his skin and what type of family he
had come from. The Tuohy family picked him up off the streets and took them in as their own. He
was then apart of their family and sent to school. In the film, The Blind Side, the director John Lee
Hancock kept some events the same as the historical event but changed a few details that had
occurred in real life in order to add excitement to the story.
In the story The Blind Side, many of the scenes from the movie are very similar to the happenings
in the historical event. One thing that was similar between the movie and the event was the fact
someone at Briarcrest High School talked people into letting Michel into the school. According to
the article The Blind Side (2009) , the football coach at Briarcrest, Hugh Freeze (referred to as
Burt Cotton in the movie), did encourage his colleagues to accept Michael s application. .
Additionally, the man who played Michael Oher and the actual Michael Oher himself were very
similar characters. In reality, Aaron, who plays him, has an appealing gentle giant presence.
(Gleiberman). In both the movie and real life both men seem to have a gentle, kind personality

If a good cost measurement system was set up, cost plus contracts will demonstrate the
advantages of cost management better than fixed price contracts do. With a robust cost
measurement system, managers are able to know the real revenue drivers, to recognize the most

system s strength lies in differentiating clients value, projects value and operation processes value

benefit more from such a system, because CitySoft would be able to charge different customers

Characterization Of Ramayana Ram
Every one has a Ram within. What is Ram? A person, a hero, a god or just a concept? Ram could
have traits of what we define as Ravana and Sita.
Ramayana is a myth that shows different traits as different characters. People have translated it in
their own ways most commonly Ram to be the hero, the braveness; Sita to be a victim, the weak
one; Ravana to be the villain, the bad side. Everyone could have all of these traits together. It is
how you behave differently to each person in your life. And how you react in every situation.
This paper is trying to explore the different sides to a character through Ramayana.
This paper takes the approach where characters of Ramayana are concepts. It also explores
Characters in different relations; as a son, a husband, a brother, and a king. Concepts meaning traits

Ramayana originate. And as times changed people have adapted the Ramayana according to their

Evaluate the non medical influences on prescribing practice.
Evaluate the non medical influences on prescribing practice. In the UK, nurse prescribing was
born out of the need to increase efficiency in the NHS by making best use of its resources. Nurse
led services are one means of improving healthcare provision and a string of legislative change
has gradually broadened the scope of nurse prescribing in the UK. (Courtenay et al 2007). The role
expansion of nurses to meet efficiency targets has meant that nurse led services in the healthcare

places in the world, we might have looked foolish, fighting against each other. In our perspective,
it was not foolish. We fought brother against brother, friend against friend, Father against son.
War was the only topic on our minds. But for what? The right to keep our laziness, against the
right of freedom, already established years and years ago? Thousands upon thousands of lives
lost, because we were too good to do our own housework? We fought as a union for the millions
of lives lost before us, who were captured, put in chains, and forced to be treated like animals.
Racism was wild among the states, even after the most awful war in American history... Show more

King s story is one that America will never forget. His speeches were powerful. Enough so that
he moved a whole country. Forget mountains, this man was so amazing that he was able to move
millions of people s hearts. That is an incredible feat, and one that will go down in history as the
day America realized that all men ARE created equal. He united thousands upon thousands of
people by showing that he wasn t going to give up his freedom. He taught them peace and how
to work together to accomplish great things. We all have a role of living out the dream of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., whether in our home, school, or community. As Dr. King once said,
Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. (wikipedia.com) Dr. King
knew that if we only showed kindness and love to everyone, there will be no hate and injustice.
We may not know it, but we can play a big part in fulfilling his dream. If you look around today,
you can see that racism is not completely dead. Although it has sufficiently died down, I don t
think racism will be completely gone for a long time and I am sure many others do too. But we
can do our part, by simply not judging others on how they look, their wealth, or their heritage,
but by who they really are on the inside. Dr. King also taught that we should not be putting
people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their heritage. We should not
be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will say. No one has
the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their actions. And
if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? Sadly, Dr. King has not lived to
see his dream become reality. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. He
was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39, by James Earl Ray.
Dr. King was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the cheek. Instantly,

The Mystery Of Economic Growth
Introduction: Economists have always been asked why and how economic growth exists in a
world filled with so much disparity between the richest and the poorest. First we need to define
economic growth as that which is measured by change in real income per capita(Parker, 2015).
Arguably Adam Smith was one of the first economists to develop a sound theory of the classical
free market in his piece The Wealth of Nations written in 1776. Much has changed since the 1700s
across the world horizons. Things aren t as simplistic as we once thought they were. Some
countries have gained exorbitant amounts of wealth, while others have withered away at the
expense of the more privileged. So lies the question of whether or not we can compensate the...

More specifically, countries that focus on physical and human capital accumulation and improving
their total factor productivity should continue to see sustained growth as long as they continue to
innovate. Innovation and constant change is key in order to keep an economy growing.
Information is one resource in this world that we could define as infinite. An economy with an
infinite amount of supply in theory is an economy that will continue to grow. Ultimately, Helpman
concludes that understanding institutions are the missing key to truly understanding growth
economics. In this case we can take the United States, Argentina, South Africa, and South Korea,
and compare specific variables such as investment in education to more accurately predict future
growth. Further analyses of these countries using Helpman s models are done in the Data section
below.
Essentially, Elhanan Helpman argues that GDP is a far too simplistic tool used for measuring
economic growth. Instead we should use a total factor productivity or TFP for short to measure an
economy s strength. TFP takes into account confounding variables that make each country unique
and would in most cases skew GDP. There are too many determinants in a country that factor into
economic grow, and many more indirect determinants or exogenous factors that can sometimes
skew measurements. Each country in the world is unique in every way imaginable. Helpman
argues that new models

Hypothesis For The Egg In Cranberry Juice
In biology class, we wondered what evidence we could gather through shell less eggs so we could
show osmosis and diffusion through the egg inner membranes. My hypothesis for the egg in
cranberry juice was that the color would change to red. My hypothesis for the egg in La Croix
would be that the texture would become rougher and it would become smaller. My hypothesisfor the
eggin syrup was that the color would become brown and the egg would become larger. I believe
with the knowledge I had at the time, that my hypotheses were not convincing because I did not
explain why I thought the eggs were going to change, I just stated it. In a controlled experiment, the
independent variable is the only variable that can be adjusted, while the dependent... Show more

We put our egg into syrup because we wanted to see if the color would change to brown and if
the size would change. The egg started out as whitish or light orange and changed to brown with
bits of white. It changed color because the syrup was trying to diffuse into the egg. However,
because the egg had bits of white, the color only stained the membrane. This means that the
diffusion did not fully occur. The egg initially weighed 88.3g but after the experiment, it had
decreased to 48.39g. I believe this happened because the egg was hypertonic, and so the size
decreased. The texture of the egg started out as squishy and slightly chalky and ended as being
deflated and having a smooth membrane. The texture most likely changed because the texture of
the syrup diffused into it and changed it. The egg deflated most likely because the egg was
hypertonic. These changes show that the egg membrane is selectively permeable because it let
the egg albumen out of the egg, but the syrup was only able to color the egg and not diffuse into
the egg completely. I believe that passive transport happened, but precisely diffusion. If I could do
the lab just on these changes, I would keep the egg in the syrup for longer until it stopped deflating
and then find out

Mountain Dew
Corporate background Mountain Dew has been through many changes since it was introduced in
1942. It started out as a yellow green drink in a green bottle that had a rush of citrus flavor and
more sugar and caffeine than any other soft drink. During the introduction of Mountain Dew it
was well known throughout the Eastern seaboard. At this time the objectives was to gain market
share. Mountain Dew became popular because of the stock car racing circuit known as
NASCAR. During the 1960s Mountain Dew s objective was too continued with its heritage from
where it originated and began having characters such as Willie to promote the brand. By the 1970s
the Mountain Dew brand was assigned BBDO, and the objective for the ad agency was to... Show

Also another opportunity is to come up with a new target market to reach new consumers. The
number one threat is the innovation of new drink categories that is stealing away market share
from Mountain Dew. Not being able tot stay competitive in this category can make or break a
company. I think that the major competitors of Mountain Dew are faced with this same issue. I m
sure they are coming up with new ideas to compete with the new products and drink categories.
Target Market Coming up with a target market that is consistent with Mountain Dew varies from
decade to decade. Each Decade brings new cultural trend. Mountain Dew has done an excellent
job at keeping up with these trends and targeting consumers that make their product something
they can relate too. Right now Mountain Dew s target market is male teens 18 years of age.
Also trying to keep the brand appealing and create a cross over appeal among the 20 39 year old
males. The type of buyer that Mountain Dew is targeting is one who has an exhilarating lifestyle
and associated with extreme sports. The characteristics of this buyer would be a male in his teens
that wants to fit in and be associated with sports. Also this buyer wants to make you think he lives
life on the edge and drinks carbonated soft drinks for energy. Mountain Dew s marketing mix is
strong due to the continual growth in sales. The

Alexander I The Czar Of Russia
Alexander I, the czar of Russia, hired Montholon to poison Napoleon. Alexander I probably
would say that Napoleon betrayed the ideals of the French Revolution greatly. Alexander even
once said that Napoleon was the oppressor of Europe and the disturber of the world s peace so he
obviously did not think that what Napoleon was doing was right. Alexander defeated Napoleon
many times in battle including when he tried to invade Russia, so by the time Napoleon was losing
power and exiled, Alexander probably got tired of him, saw him as a nuisance, and wanted to get
rid of him. It is also clear that Alexander the First of Russia hired Montholon to poison Napoleon
because in Montholon s room there was a medal for courage that was awarded to him for

African American Inequality In Literature
Inequality in America is expressed in many ways, for example literature and media. Today, I d like
to focus on American Literature of African American inequality through Narrative Identity.
Narrative can be expressed as a basic human strategy for coming to terms with fundamental
elements of our experience, such as time, process, and change. While Narrative Identity is
identified as is the study of the distinctive nature of narrative and its various structures, elements,
uses, and effects. (Course Notes). I have chosen three authors who expressed their views of racial
inequality through poems and short stories. Frederick Douglas, Zora Neale Hurston, and Langston
Hughesare all African Americandescendants who have personally experienced inequality in
American and has chosen to express their experiences in American Literature. Even though these
authors have shared experiencing inequality, they are all different because of the time in which
their experienced occurred.
Frederick Douglas a former slave later to remembered as a hero, wrote a book about his life
called The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas. In this narrative Frederick Douglas
expresses how African Americans were treated during this time. He goes into detail about his
experiences from an illiterate lost young boy to a self educated confident grown man. Frederick
Douglas was born into slavery 1818. He among many other slaves have no recognition of their
origin. I was born in Tuckahoe, near

Compare and contrast the two main figures of the European...
Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that
his capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. The legacy Napoleon left for France
was strategic paralysis; the legacy the Bismarck left for Germany was unassimilable greatness
(statement made by Henry Kissinger) is in my opinion a correct statement. This statement can
actually be separated into two parts. The first parts relates with the capacities, ambitions and
successes of Bismarck and Napoleon. The second part is about the final result of their reign and
how their reigns could be taken over after such changing of Europe.
Bismarck main objective was to bring together the German states and to form a powerful great

He wanted to create division in Europe, therefore he created crisis here and there, but couldn t
control the outcomes afterwards! Time and again, he would encourage a crisis now in Italy, now in
Poland, later in Germany only to recoil before its ultimate consequence (P.107 Kissinger) or
Napoleon made himself the prisoner of crisis he had himself engineered (P.107 Kissinger). Those
crises would finally result in Italy and Germany as Unification and new difficulties for Napoleon
to cope with. His foreign affaires always came out to be failures and to finally work against him.
Napoleon destroyed by many ways all the other alliances that were made between France and other
great powers, by supporting conflicts that wouldn t even benefit France. He supported the Italians in
the war against Austria, this laid to Italian Unification which made one more power to deal with
afterwards. He finally concluded an armistice with Austria ... without informing his Piedmontese
allies (P.111 Kissinger), creating hatred among the Italians towards his country. Austria was
considered by Napoleon as repugnant , therefore he wouldn t try to collaborate with them: As a

and by being repeatedly annoying. Napoleon alienated Great Britain by annexing Savoy

Should Nuclear Waste Be Stored In South Australia
Should nuclear waste be stored in South Australia?
Should we be letting the rest of the world use our backyard as a dump for nuclear waste? South
Australia is considering to build a nuclear waste dump which would ultimately hold 13% of the
worlds high level nuclear waste. Currently this waste is being held around the world in different
locations, i agree this is not a permanent solution but neither is burying it in the ground. I don t
agree that we should be building a nuclear waste dump in South Australia but instead putting our
time and money towards something more renewable would be a better investment. Nor is it
necessary because in thirty years the world will run on renewable energy.
We are forgetting the crucial what if question. What if there was a radiation leak in the containers
that the waste was transported in, what if radiation was exposed all over South Australia, maybe
even spreading to other states. Taking into consideration the potential risk of radiation across our
community and eco systems. Radiation is a deadly disease that weakens and breaks up DNA, either
damaging cells enough to kill them or causing them to mutate in ways that may eventually lead to
cancer. Not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Interest In Rock Music
Topic: Rock music
Individual Presentation:
What initially made you interested in rock music? [5]
My interest in rock music began when a friend of mine first introduced me to a song by rock
band Muse. At first I thought that it was just like any other songs as it was comprised of the
same riff extended to about 4 minutes with a 2 minute guitar solo/bridge. However, as I
continued to listen to the song over and over again, I grew to appreciate the heavy drumming, the
distorted guitar riff and when I watched a few of their live performances of the song, I was
astonished by the band synergy that they had. There s just so much energy and passion put into
every song they performed. Watching their performances inspired me to the point where I felt like

since I was introduced to the rock genre, I listen to music every time I get the chance to. I listen
to music whenever I leave the house, when I m at home and especially when I do work. I m just a

From How Soccer Explains The World Chapter Summary
The book From How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is written
by Franklin Foer and was published in 2004. The book talks about different aspects of
globalization. Franklin Foer is an American journalist who used to work as an editor of The New
Republic. He belongs to a family of writers as one of his younger brothers is a novelist and the
other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalizationon the
society. He has used soccer to elaborate the main ideas in the text and because of this link between
globalization and soccer, the book has fascinated several sports persons. Furthermore, this text is
branching out into three parts and each part scrutinizes a different aspect of globalization.... Show

Although, the author has written this book in a very humorous way and used sarcasm in certain
instances that makes a person smile while reading it, however many serious issues such as the
acceptability of globalization, how it has caused what the author defines as an American cultural
cleavage and why overall globalization failed are being discussed. The tone of the author has
generally been subtle and like mentioned before, he has used humor to lighten up the mood. The
strategy of using a friendly tone, using professional language and difficult vocabulary and
combining it with sports to address a serious problem makes this writing very interesting and
persuading but, soccer is perhaps a topic too narrow to represent

Filippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
One of the world s most famous architects and engineers was born in the Italian city state of
Florence sometime in 1377. Although he had a huge influence on building design and
construction, and on art, we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless,
he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided
information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most
important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze (the Dome of the FlorenceCathedral), was finished in 1436
and remains as one of the greatest symbols of the period. Before he started building this
revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the architecture of Roman buildings and monuments....

Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced
technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular
weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as
some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition,
Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to
last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going
to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the
bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of
the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the
greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing
herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make
up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a
spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to
keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome
that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period.

Xenophobia In Elie Wiesel s Night
Xenophobia marches across the planet
Despite the xenophobic and racist beliefs to be completely irrational primarily because God
created human as imago Dei, which means that we are all His children, at the certain periods of
the history of humanity and in some circumstances these beliefs may seem logical from people s
subjective point of view (Rydgren, 2004). It may happen because of the lack of information or due
to the cognitive limitations that make people massively follow a charismatic leader and adhere to
the suggested ideology. Unfortunately, xenophobia always causes a tragedy whether it is

One passion of mine has always been assisting the disadvantaged and understanding the steps that I can personally take to reduce the various global disparities. In particular, I am extremely fascinated with aquatic species and those on the edge of extinction or in extreme danger. As a child, one of my most treasured experiences was when I had the incredible opportunity to swim with dolphins in Turks and Caicos, and learned about their habit and imminent threats. Specifically, in Fiji, 5 out of the 7 species of marine turtles are severely endangered due to over exploitation and immense habitat destruction. Compared... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, once this natural mindfulness wears off, individuals form routines and habits that promote ignorance to their surroundings. • 3. Essay On Front Range Although Front Range Community College is a fantastic school and much improvement has been made, Front Range could make an improvement by having a higher standard for teacher regulations. This could be monitored and improved by, a teacher workshop, monitoring number of complaints, holding a class interview, having a probation period, and monitor pass and fail percentage. Over the years of schooling I ve had quite a few horrid teachers and if there had been a system like I stated above, I would ve got what I paid for. I know personally after paying four hundred a class, I want a teacher who knows what they are actually doing and if kids fail or if there are complaints then I believe there should be some type of consequence. Having a physical interview with the students could give real live opinions that would be falsely transmitted through paper. Probation periods for teachers would make them work harder and make them feel better after they accomplished getting the job. Pass and fail percentage is a subject that shouldn t be taken lightly, teachers should know that they need to work hard and make sure every student is getting the proper teaching that they paid for. Relating back to Homer s stylized poems that initially created the greek world into a tragic culture perspective demonstrated an individual lived in someone else s world or fantasy. Poems were being incorporated into the society and structured based on these meanings in a hierarchical authority. Nietzsche found it sad that these poems were used and people lived in someone else s world instead of their own. For example, in society a hard working person such a farmer who would do all the manual labor while the aristocrats decided upon the ways how institutions should be structured was living in someone else s world. The poor worked hard and the rich stayed rich; which continues today if Nietzsche saw it now. A world of heroes is unstable, who engaged in agonistic struggle in a moral, political and cultural level. Nietzsche states, Greek tragedy met her death in a different way from all the older sister arts: she died tragically by her own hand, after irresolvable conflicts, while the other died happy and peaceful at an advanced age . Upon coming into office, President Kennedy was told of the training of Cuban exiles in Guatemala by CIA director Allen Dulles. Kennedy gave his approval for the training of the exiles to continue. He later went to the Joint Chiefs of Staff to evaluate the situation. In Ottawa, government sources said the FLQ assassinated Laporte because War Measures was enacted. The tension that night was palpable. John Turner, the minister of justice, looked distraught. In his office, Trudeau ministers Gerard Pelletier and Jean Marchand were weeping openly at the death of an old friend and colleague. Early in December 1970, police discovered the location of the kidnappers holding James Cross. He was released after his FLQ captors were given safe passage to Cuba. Four weeks later Paul Rose and the kidnappers of Pierre Laporte were found in the corner of a country basement. They were tried and convicted for kidnapping and murder. The October Crisis was the first time in Canadian history the state itself, both in Ottawa and in Quebec City, was held to ransom by extremists and terrorists. It was also the first time, in peace time, that Ottawa invoked War Measures. It was a drastic step to take and one laced with very dangerous side effects. • 22. The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article discusses the growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in 1994 by Clive Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow businessmen: Tim Morgan, Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable airline in western Canada. Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare but rich in culture to maintain its integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris Air, the team developed a business plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an integrative, financial model and business plan which included only three aircraft and features of being: direct, cost effective, and short haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the needed capital was raised and the foundation for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was established and began rapidly integrating into eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success posed an issue because even though it was centered on culture eventually its concept would fail; the airline was growing very quickly and that could only mean that it would be difficult to maintain the intimate focus while staying extremely profitable. Critical Analysis In 1999 many changes occurred within the Canadian market of aviation. There was merging between successful and struggling airlines, and even airlines that failed relatively ... These include the difficulties of estimating the costs of technologies several decades into the future, as well as the way in which fossil fuel prices evolve in the future. It is also hard to know how people will respond to price changes. Majority of current data uses time factors of different definitions that make such data hard to relate from a reference line. For example is it possible to define the pre industrial era levels for health and longevity of human life compared to current with respect to air pollution levels. Most data uses probabilistic models to speculate for the variation in time. However, such models involve many assumptions that inherently have uncertainties. Whether the Canal was being used for business people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border towns all had some appeal to these persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. Ethos is the credibility of an advertisement, pathosis the emotional appealof an advertisement, and logos is the logic found in the advertisement. This paper will show the similarities and differences in pathos, logos, and ethos found in two separate Budweiser advertisements. Ethos, pathos, and logos are all rhetorical appeals, meaning that they are used to assist the speaker or writer in harnessing rhetoric. Clark (2016) considers rhetoric as a tool meant for persuasion as well as for creating effective arguments. Rhetoric became extremely popular during the golden age of Greece, and most elite young men in Greek city states such as Athens were trained to utilize rhetoric to their fullest abilities (Clark, 2016). Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, believed that rhetoricians those who used rhetoric to influence and sway opinions used rhetoric irresponsibly (Clark, 2016). Dr. King also taught that we should not be putting people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their heritage. We should not be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will say. No one has the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their actions. And if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? Sadly, Dr. King has not lived to see his dream become reality. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. He was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39, by James Earl Ray. Dr. King was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the cheek. Instantly, ... • 41. The Mystery Of Economic Growth Introduction: Economists have always been asked why and how economic growth exists in a world filled with so much disparity between the richest and the poorest. First we need to define economic growth as that which is measured by change in real income per capita(Parker, 2015). Arguably Adam Smith was one of the first economists to develop a sound theory of the classical free market in his piece The Wealth of Nations written in 1776. Much has changed since the 1700s across the world horizons. Things aren t as simplistic as we once thought they were. Some countries have gained exorbitant amounts of wealth, while others have withered away at the expense of the more privileged. So lies the question of whether or not we can compensate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, countries that focus on physical and human capital accumulation and improving their total factor productivity should continue to see sustained growth as long as they continue to innovate. Innovation and constant change is key in order to keep an economy growing. Information is one resource in this world that we could define as infinite. An economy with an infinite amount of supply in theory is an economy that will continue to grow. Ultimately, Helpman concludes that understanding institutions are the missing key to truly understanding growth economics. In this case we can take the United States, Argentina, South Africa, and South Korea, and compare specific variables such as investment in education to more accurately predict future growth. Further analyses of these countries using Helpman s models are done in the Data section below. Essentially, Elhanan Helpman argues that GDP is a far too simplistic tool used for measuring economic growth. Instead we should use a total factor productivity or TFP for short to measure an economy s strength. TFP takes into account confounding variables that make each country unique and would in most cases skew GDP. There are too many determinants in a country that factor into economic grow, and many more indirect determinants or exogenous factors that can sometimes skew measurements. Each country in the world is unique in every way imaginable. Helpman argues that new models ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Hypothesis For The Egg In Cranberry Juice In biology class, we wondered what evidence we could gather through shell less eggs so we could show osmosis and diffusion through the egg inner membranes. My hypothesis for the egg in cranberry juice was that the color would change to red. My hypothesis for the egg in La Croix would be that the texture would become rougher and it would become smaller. My hypothesisfor the eggin syrup was that the color would become brown and the egg would become larger. I believe with the knowledge I had at the time, that my hypotheses were not convincing because I did not explain why I thought the eggs were going to change, I just stated it. In a controlled experiment, the independent variable is the only variable that can be adjusted, while the dependent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We put our egg into syrup because we wanted to see if the color would change to brown and if the size would change. The egg started out as whitish or light orange and changed to brown with bits of white. It changed color because the syrup was trying to diffuse into the egg. However, because the egg had bits of white, the color only stained the membrane. This means that the diffusion did not fully occur. The egg initially weighed 88.3g but after the experiment, it had decreased to 48.39g. I believe this happened because the egg was hypertonic, and so the size decreased. The texture of the egg started out as squishy and slightly chalky and ended as being deflated and having a smooth membrane. The texture most likely changed because the texture of the syrup diffused into it and changed it. The egg deflated most likely because the egg was hypertonic. These changes show that the egg membrane is selectively permeable because it let the egg albumen out of the egg, but the syrup was only able to color the egg and not diffuse into the egg completely. I believe that passive transport happened, but precisely diffusion. If I could do the lab just on these changes, I would keep the egg in the syrup for longer until it stopped deflating and then find out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Mountain Dew Corporate background Mountain Dew has been through many changes since it was introduced in 1942. It started out as a yellow green drink in a green bottle that had a rush of citrus flavor and more sugar and caffeine than any other soft drink. During the introduction of Mountain Dew it was well known throughout the Eastern seaboard. At this time the objectives was to gain market share. Mountain Dew became popular because of the stock car racing circuit known as NASCAR. The number one threat is the innovation of new drink categories that is stealing away market share from Mountain Dew. Not being able tot stay competitive in this category can make or break a company. I think that the major competitors of Mountain Dew are faced with this same issue. I m sure they are coming up with new ideas to compete with the new products and drink categories. Target Market Coming up with a target market that is consistent with Mountain Dew varies from decade to decade. Each Decade brings new cultural trend. Mountain Dew has done an excellent job at keeping up with these trends and targeting consumers that make their product something they can relate too. Right now Mountain Dew s target market is male teens 18 years of age. Also trying to keep the brand appealing and create a cross over appeal among the 20 39 year old males. The type of buyer that Mountain Dew is targeting is one who has an exhilarating lifestyle and associated with extreme sports. The characteristics of this buyer would be a male in his teens that wants to fit in and be associated with sports. Alexander I probably would say that Napoleon betrayed the ideals of the French Revolution greatly. Alexander even once said that Napoleon was the oppressor of Europe and the disturber of the world s peace so he obviously did not think that what Napoleon was doing was right. Alexander defeated Napoleon many times in battle including when he tried to invade Russia, so by the time Napoleon was losing power and exiled, Alexander probably got tired of him, saw him as a nuisance, and wanted to get rid of him. • 45. African American Inequality In Literature Inequality in America is expressed in many ways, for example literature and media. Today, I d like to focus on American Literature of African American inequality through Narrative Identity. Narrative can be expressed as a basic human strategy for coming to terms with fundamental elements of our experience, such as time, process, and change. While Narrative Identity is identified as is the study of the distinctive nature of narrative and its various structures, elements, uses, and effects. (Course Notes). I have chosen three authors who expressed their views of racial inequality through poems and short stories. Frederick Douglas, Zora Neale Hurston, and Langston Hughesare all African Americandescendants who have personally experienced inequality in American and has chosen to express their experiences in American Literature. Even though these authors have shared experiencing inequality, they are all different because of the time in which their experienced occurred. Frederick Douglas a former slave later to remembered as a hero, wrote a book about his life called The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas. In this narrative Frederick Douglas expresses how African Americans were treated during this time. He goes into detail about his experiences from an illiterate lost young boy to a self educated confident grown man. Frederick Douglas was born into slavery 1818. • 46. Compare and contrast the two main figures of the European... Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that his capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. The legacy Napoleon left for France was strategic paralysis; the legacy the Bismarck left for Germany was unassimilable greatness (statement made by Henry Kissinger) is in my opinion a correct statement. This statement can actually be separated into two parts. The first parts relates with the capacities, ambitions and successes of Bismarck and Napoleon. The second part is about the final result of their reign and how their reigns could be taken over after such changing of Europe. South Australia is considering to build a nuclear waste dump which would ultimately hold 13% of the worlds high level nuclear waste. Currently this waste is being held around the world in different locations, i agree this is not a permanent solution but neither is burying it in the ground. I don t agree that we should be building a nuclear waste dump in South Australia but instead putting our time and money towards something more renewable would be a better investment. Nor is it necessary because in thirty years the world will run on renewable energy. We are forgetting the crucial what if question. What if there was a radiation leak in the containers that the waste was transported in, what if radiation was exposed all over South Australia, maybe even spreading to other states. • 48. My Interest In Rock Music Topic: Rock music Individual Presentation: What initially made you interested in rock music? [5] My interest in rock music began when a friend of mine first introduced me to a song by rock band Muse. At first I thought that it was just like any other songs as it was comprised of the same riff extended to about 4 minutes with a 2 minute guitar solo/bridge. However, as I continued to listen to the song over and over again, I grew to appreciate the heavy drumming, the distorted guitar riff and when I watched a few of their live performances of the song, I was astonished by the band synergy that they had. There s just so much energy and passion put into every song they performed. Watching their performances inspired me to the point where I felt like In what way has rock music affected your daily life? Although he had a huge influence on building design and construction, and on art, we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze (the Dome of the FlorenceCathedral), was finished in 1436 and remains as one of the greatest symbols of the period. Before he started building this revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the architecture of Roman buildings and monuments.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
