Conceptual Framework At The University Of Phoenix College...
COE Conceptual Framework Writepoint Paper
The College of Education Conceptual Framework are guidelines and expectations set up for all
faculty and students at the University of Phoenix College of Education. The framework provides a
guiding structure for designing, implementing, and evaluating programs at University of Phoenix.
The framework revolves around seven key themes that support expectations for teaching and
learning at the University of Phoenix. As future teachers the COE Conceptual Framework sets clear
expectations of skills and experiences students need to master to become successful in the
classroom.
The COE Conceptual Framework is separated into seven themes that promote knowledge, skills,
dispositions, and lifelong learning as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Especially in such a culturally diverse country as the United States, the College of Education has a
very diverse student body and as students transition into becoming teachers having gained skills
with diversity issues will help greatly in dealing with diversity in the classroom.
Along with dealing with diversity future teachers will have to collaborate and communicate
effectively with fellow teachers and administration at the school. Participating in collaborative
activities will prepare students for being effective communicators in the classroom. Learning new
technologies will greatly benefit future teachers with effective communication tools in the
classroom and the workplace. Technology can be used to present new information as well as
document performance for assessment.
Assessment of performance is paramount in the workplace and the framework helps faculty ensure
they are teaching students to be able to effectively engage in reflection of performance and
implement strategies of improving effectiveness of instruction. Not only must students learn this
necessary skill, but faculty must also reflect on their instruction and assess their performance so
they can implement strategies on becoming better educators as

Social Cultural Reality Theory in Action
72251 Intercultural Communication
Assignment 1
Melissa Peters
ID: 3304924
Short answers
Q. 1. Challenge DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000) definition of culture using Richards
(1999) or Anae (1997). How do DeVito et al look at membership within a cultureand how does
Richards see it differently?
DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000, p.99) definition of culture is very limited when describing
modern cultures of globalised human society. Perhaps where people are isolated to villages, towns
or countries with little communication with the outside world, the definition would be completely
workable. But now, due to access of information, global trade, travel and immigration etc the world
is becoming more and more an eclectic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social amp; Cultural reality theory in action
Melissa Peters
Bachelor of Arts Student, Open Polytechnic
Introduction
How is it we know when to laugh, cry or shout? Or when it would be rude or inappropriate to do
so? Why is it we value integrity, honesty, respect...or not? And where do our religious or spiritual
beliefs and practices come from?
This essay looks at theories of social construction and their part in the development of cultural and
societal realities. We look at constructivism as a means of learning social norms, values, beliefs etc
using examples from the production Tapu (Smith and Haami, 2000). In particular we ll address the
theories of emotional construction and rule governing.
So what is social construction?
Social construction is the idea that our understanding of reality derives from interaction with others.
It refers to the way we create meaning and understanding to build collectively held beliefs. These
beliefs are called social constructions or constructs .
In the 1967 book, The Social Construction of Reality, Berger and Luckmann argue that all
knowledge, including the most basic, taken for granted common sense knowledge of everyday
reality, is derived from and maintained by social interactions. (Wikipedia, 2012).
Culture is a vital aspect of

Prevalence, Pathology And Associated Risk Factors For...
Prevalence, pathology and associated risk factors for Dictyocaulus filaria infection among
slaughtered sheep.
Introduction
Sheep are an important part of the global agricultural economy. Domestic sheep provide a wide
array of raw materials. Wool is one of the first textiles although in the late 20th century wool prices
began to fall as the result of the popularity and cheap prices for synthetic fabrics . Sheep meat and
milk are the earliest staple proteins consumed by human civilization after the transition from
hunting and gathering to agriculture. Byproducts from the slaughter of sheep are also of value;
sheep tallow can be used in candle and soap making while, sheep bone and cartilage has been used
to furnish carved items such as dice and buttons .
Parasitic nematodes cause diseases of major economic importance in sheep .The lungworm ,
Dictyocaulus filaria , represents one of these nematodes inhabits bronchi and bronchioles and
cause parasitic bronchitis (commonly known as husk) particularly in young sheep ( Holzhauer et
al., 2011). Dictyocaulus filaria has direct life cycle, embryonated eggs are coughed up or
swallowed and hatch in the small intestine then first stage larvae are passed in faeces. Under
favorable environmental conditions, first stage larvae moult to second stage larvae and then
infective en sheathed third stage larvae that actively move from faeces to herbage and are ingested
by the grazing sheep. Following ingestion, third stage larvae ex sheath in

What Does Pearl Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the character Pearl is not only a major character,
but also a constant symbol of redemption. She is the punishment for Dimmesdale and Hester s sin
as well as their path to salvation. Most importantly, however, Pearl is the scarlet letter itself. Pearl
s behavior and influence establish her role as a key symbol and a means to the evolution of the
other characters.
Throughout The Scarlet Letter, Pearl serves as a punishment to Dimmesdale and Hester for their
adultery. She is described as an elf child with an impish grin , demonstrating her wild and devious
nature. In Mirror Imagery in The Scarlet Letter , Michael L. Lasser states that Hester thinks Pearl
must be disordered and even essentially evil (274). Pearl s mischievous ... Show more content on

Pearl is symbolic of nature, exemplified by her birdlike movements and her wild spirit. Since
nature represents God, Pearl is essentially bringing her parents closer to God, and therefore
absolving them of their sin. She reminds Hester to repent when she took some eel grass, and
imitated, as best as she could, on her own bosom, the decoration with which she was so familiar
on her mother s (161). Since green represents nature and God, Pearl aids Hester in realizing that
in order to be closer to God and salvation, she must accept her sin. Although on a macrocosmic
scale Pearl is symbolic of nature, in the scene on the beach she symbolizes the little gray bird
from the sea. She pelts the seabirds with pebbles, but stops because it grieved her to have done
harm to a little being that was as wild as the sea breeze, or as wild as Pearl herself (160). The
gray bird has a white breast, illustrating that although Pearl s behavior is shady, her intentions are
pure. In addition, by representing a bird, Pearl flies between Heaven and Earth, becoming Hester s

The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles
There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude
toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey
on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive
intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law
requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an
International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their
status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex
crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a
child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth.
The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines
pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and
fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person
with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With the latter half of this definition, we
begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual interests in children who have had
no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have their daily life affected by the
feelings that they are having toward

Pierre Trudeau s War Measures Act
Pierre Elliotte Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada during the 1970s, was the man who saved
Quebec from separating from Canada by using the War Measures Act very effectively. At that time,
Quebec was in a bad situation because of a terrorist group called the FLQ (Front de libГ©ration du
QuГ©bec), that had been bombing Quebecsince 1963 and gathering people to carry violent
demonstrations and destruction. The situation got worse by each passing day as the FLQ s
revolutionary movement turned into terrorism. The government faced a tough situation. Pierre
Trudeaucould not see his country getting divided and took a strict action. The government didn t
have any safe options, but Trudeau handled the matter very tactfully by following the right path,...

Though there had been an initial fear of the military in the minds of the people, the soldiers soon
won their hearts by their devotion and effective actions. The War Measures Act banned the FLQ
demonstrations (which were earlier allowed) to prevent violence, preserve order and protect the
people and public places from attacks. The civilians were completely safe as the officers only
swooped down on suspects chosen from lists assembled by the Quebec and Montreal forces, as
told by John English (88). The fear of the government could be seen in the terrorists only after
the implementation of the act, which showed that Canada will respond harshly and not keep
quite. The terrorists, who claimed to be fearless and revolutionary, rushed to seize their
documents and save their lives as soon as the raids began on October 16, 1970. The police
arrested 397 people and disrupted many others who were linked to FLQ or violence that occurred
in the past ( October Crises of 1970 ). The military successfully broke up the strategies of the FLQ,
arrested the terrorists, seized large quantities of weapons, calmed the people and was able to control
the situation and restore

Nostalgic Memories In Yusef Komunyakaa s Facing It Essay
Nostalgic Memories In Facing It Just as farmers brand their livestock in order to claim them as
their own, humans do the same when it comes to important events. There are certain moments in
one s life when an incident is so powerful, emotionally or physically, that it leaves a mark on a
person forever. The branded symbol that is left could be positive or negative, but there is no
doubt that it has caused a wave of all encompassing feeling. And although when looking back at
the past the majority of our memories tend to be viewed with a black and white perception, it is
these rare occurrences when a certain event can be so distinct that it is like experiencing it once
more. This experience that was once felt with the body and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His frequent use of techniques such as alliteration and flashback, as well as his overall construction
of the poem, easily conveys the anguish and torment that comes along with remembering something
that one has tried so hard to forget. Komunyakaa s use of alliteration has helped to slow down time,
in a way: Phrases such as My black face fades (Line 1) take a longer time to read, and therefore, one
has more time to let words sink in. Saying that the character s face is fading not only represents
emotion through word choice and diction but it allows certain words to be read with more force,
which expresses the author s idea that that word has extreme importance to the overall content
and theme of the piece. Komunyakaa also makes clear use of flashback throughout the poem: I
see a booby trap s white flash, A white vet s image floats closer to me В… he s lost his right arm
. Literary devices such as this one provides evidence towards the general tone of the poem: a dreary
and depressing image of a past incident. The way the poem is constructed is also confirmation that
Komunyakaa wants certain words and phrases to be prominent. His use of enjambment forces one
to concentrate on certain thoughts: I turn that wayВ—I m inside causes one to imagine that the
main character is deep inside his train of thought; however, when reading the next line it is obvious
that the literal meaning of the phrase is that the character is

Quinceanera
Quinceanera It is customary for all Latin American cultures to celebrate a coming of age party
for their daughters called a quinceanera. Parents commemorate their beloved daughter s transition
from being a little girl to becoming a fifteen year old young lady by inviting family and friends
to join in this huge event. A modern day young lady is celebrated with a ceremony, grand party
with extravagant decorations, exquisite food, memorable toasts form the godparents, and usually
wrapped up with a funky dance. Every little girl awaits the day when she will be treated and
given the attention of a princess for a day. It was my pleasure to attend my cousin Daira s

As I looked up I noticed a yellow gold iron gate that wrapped around the second floor where
additional seating was available. The stage was very small however, with only enough room for
one white and turquois flower arrangement on each side of the pulpit (the only decoration
pertaining to the party), the pastor, and a projection screen that was placed behind the pastor,
which was used to display the words to the songs. The musicians were on the left side in between
the stage and the pews, all the men were different ages. A middle aged man who seemed to be
the leader was the keyboardist and singer, the base player was a young teenage boy who sat on
the first bench facing the keyboardist, the guitarist was an older man who sat in his wheelchair
also facing the keyboardist, and the drummer, another middle aged man, who had his own little
tower upstairs where he faced the challenge of keeping up with the tempo without being able to
see the leader. Because there were only a few guests present the ceremony was taking longer to
commence than the guests were expecting. There were different groups of people having
conversations laughing silently at each other s jokes, some were sitting on the pews and others
were standing up, but all were scattered. The band was still doing some warm up rounds, you could

Ignorance Is Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville
The world we know, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to
awareness or familiarity, gained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you are born,
your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you grow, your mind becomes aware of things and begins
filling the clear sheet of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledgeis
invaluable. Everyone knows that knowledge is precious, but have you ever wondered: can
knowledge make people unhappy, confused or doubtful? Ignoranceis bliss plays a crucial character,
contemplating that question. Ignorance is bliss; a phrase that is well clarified in the book Giver
and the following films: Fahrenheit 451and Pleasantville.
Ignorance is bliss is well elucidated in the book Giver due to the following statements. The book
Giver illustrates that everyone in the community is happy, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason
why Jonas and Giver are unhappy is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that
have been passed on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is
happiness, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is
death. Before Jonas knew that releasing is death, he agreed on the idea of releasing, but as he
discovers that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him,
representing a shock, and sadness. The statement, Ignorance is bliss is true because

Disadvantages Of Free Range Parenting
Free range parenting is a type of way to help a kids early, young, and adolescent stages of their
life with their skills and abilities as well as for teaching them how to be self supportive and to
learn how to become a responsible young adult to be a better prepared for the future. In free range
parenting their is no specific way of raising your child due to the fact that their can be several
methods but what i do think is that their should be only one way when it comes to parenting. Free
range parenting of course can and may have many negative but also many positive outcomes as
well depending on the type of technique the set of parents are using and by the way their kids are
being raised and treated over the years of their teen life. Every set of parents have their own
technique, tactic, or method when it comes to parenting but at times the way they do it isn t the
correct one to utilize at a child s young age. The three types of free range parenting methods that
their is are the Abusive or neglectful parents, the prepared developmentally parents, and finally the
helicopter type of parents. An extreme kind parenting parentis an abusive or neglectful type of way
that some children get from the parents since they don t get or receive enough support, help, and

Alfred Hitchcock Use Of Suspense Essay
Alfred Hitchcock uses omission to set up suspense and a feeling of skepticism for the viewer.
Lighting, dialogue, and distance all are tools Hitchcock employs to aid in his omission of certain
details. The main asset Hitchcock exploits is the distance L.B. Jeffries is trapped at in comparison
to where the real drama takes place for much of the film. This distance leaves the viewer feeling
perturbed.
Hitchcock utilizes the distance between Jeffries s window, through which most of the film is
shot, and the actions taking place in the apartments all the way across the courtyard to hide the
dialogue between the characters. Jeffries is unable to leave his apartment and since the camera
does not either, the viewer is rendered just as impotent as him. Hitchcock makes it clear that Mr.
Thorwald is on the phone and from the attention drawn to him the viewer is led to believe that
what he is saying could lead to the discovery of what happened to his wife. The aspect of this
scene that adds suspense is the dark lighting making it impossible to see what he is saying. ... Show

specific objects or moments implying their importance, but then gives no further information to

the caution with which it was packed, and Mr. Thorwald s desire to have it taken from his home.
Hitchcock omits what is in the trunk or where it is going. The viewer is then left to their
imagination to decide what it could possibly contain. Another aspect of the film omitted by limited
sight is what is happening with Mrs. Thorwald s jewelry. The viewer is able to see that the jewelry
was left behind, but any indication of what this actually means is left up in the

Gym Class
I tightly gripped the blue, plastic, slippery, twig (hockey stick) in my sweaty, sticky hands when I
swung the tiny, orange, plastic puck into the goal. The opposing team s goalie, with sweat
dripping down his face and fear in his eyes, gave me the dirtiest look anyone could have ever
imagined. I soon realized, I had just won the hockey gameduring gym class. All the confused
stares and silent but noticeable whispers lead me to question what was all the hot gossip. I
achingly trudged down the toxic, smelly stairwell which led me to the reeking, strong smell of
sweat in the girl s locker room. Sounds of giggling, and perfume being spritzed; the loud slamming
of lockers as the girls finish changing their clothes, and the horsing around that... Show more

No Kaelyn... why would I bring two pairs of gym shorts? It s not like I m going to wet myself or

I m freaking out because I forgot my shorts, and all I have are these black sweatpants that I am

Re: Case 03 05, Accounting Issues
Background
Trademark, Inc., a public and growing global corporation, creates, assembles, and disburses their
products through four main divisions of their corporation: Greeting Cards and Stationery,
Calendars, Party Goods, and Specialty Gifts. Their core business comes from their customers in
drug stores and supermarket chains. In the early to mid 1990 s, Trademark saw significant growth
in response to their IPO issuance in 1992, however, since 1994, they have seen a flat and ultimate

Secondly, the difference between actual and estimated returns is less than 5%, (FASB ASC 250 10

and uses real life scenarios that have occurred in the government. An example of a real life event
is when in the show they had the government shutdown in Pawnee which was inspired by the real

local California politics and attended Los Angeles City Council meetings to have a better

The Importance Of The Land Of Opportunity In America
Land of Opportunity for Everyone. The United States is a very diverse country, which makes it
the most unique out of every other place in the world. What helps this wonderful country of
opportunity become what it is to this day is because of the immigrants who traveled here.
Coming from a family of immigrants I know first hand what my grandparents and parents had to
go through to earn the life they gave me today. Immigrants are an important part in our society.
They do the work that most people don t want to do. As in, work in factories, construction sites,
and on farms. Immigrants help run a high demand country, so why get rid of them? They have a
purpose here. Everyone around the world knows that America is the Land of Opportunity .
People work so hard just to come here and start a new life. They all want to experience the
American Dream . To us, this is a normal lifestyle. If you look at immigrants situations closely,
you see their country s trouble and how over there they have it much worse. Wouldn t you want to
give them an opportunity where you and they know is better? So many countries in Europe are
having a hard time and people want to escape that and move to the States to start fresh. My
grandparents moved to Chicago from Poland when my mom was 19. They worked tremendously
hard to make enough money to make sure they were set for the future. They are lucky that they got

Analysis Of Up The Wall By Bruce Dawe
Bruce Dawe, one of the most influential Australian poets of his time was known for using his
poems as a way to efficiently discuss the matters in society of his time and how this follows
through generation, thus becoming a significant matter for his modern audience. Both Dawe s
poems The Not So Good Earth and Up The Wall have successfully demonstrated the issues of the
complacency of our society towards the world around us and their issues and the disconnection
this thenceforth creates in everyday life and how this impacts the individual. Dawe s poem, Up
The Wall, truly validates the impact of the suburban, everyday lifestyle on the individual and how
the loneliness this creates can push someone to the edge. Dawe s use of onomatopoeia with the
abrupt words of shrieked and screams really imposes that internal struggle the woman was
experiencing. The use of direct dialogue, spoken by the women when she speaks, they nearly drove

Through the use of a simile, like a horizon he argues that the individual s lifestyle has no sense of
change and their day is always the same routine, which evokes the acceptance and no thought for
change. The dialogue of the final sestet from the two people conversing outside of the household
is deeply ironic due to the detection of disconnectedness from the outside world, indicating the
lack of dialogue, as no one is aware of her misery. Dawe uses repetition in this dialogue, quiet...
too quiet which reiterates the detachment from society and the fragility of our humanity and what
has become of us as a whole. Through Up The Wall, Bruce Dawe effectively demonstrates the
issues of the complacent society our world has become and how ordinary life has affected
individuals in a way that we have become completely detached from our

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Essay
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the first of several novels in the C.S. Lewis s
Chronicles of Narnia. These books tell stories of another universe that is called Narnia. Here
there are many unearthly things from talking animals and evil witches. The Lion, the Witch, and
the Wardrobe is the story of four young siblings who discover this new world by entering a
wardrobe. Little did they know, they were destined to become the new royalty of Narnia but only
after going through many battles. In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis analyzes
the character Lucy, the theme of good versus evil, and the parallels of Narnia to other literature

Even early on in their friendship Lucy not only trusted a stranger faun, she believed in his
goodness too (Emerson). When Mr. Tumnus began to tell Lucy of all of the evil plans he was
supposed to follow, she replied to him in disbelief by saying, I think you are the nicest Faun I ve
ever met and I m sure you wouldn t do anything of the sort (Lewis 19). Lucy s will to see the
good in him ultimately influence Mr. Tumnus to risk his life for hers (Emerson). During Lucy s
adventure she goes through several tests of her character. The first test she encounters is trying
to convince her siblings that Narnia does exist (Emerson). The first time she tried to show them
Narnia, the wardrobe did not lead to anything unlike it had when she entered it before (Lewis
25). Many at this time would think that they had dreamed or imagined Narnia, but not Lucy. She
knew what she had seen and felt and would not allow others to bully her into thinking otherwise
(Emerson). Her siblings did not believe her and ridiculed her by making fun of her saying it was
all just a hoax and that she was just a little girl who had an imagination (Lewis 25). Later on in
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Lucy s second test arrives. She is the only one who is
willing to take responsibility for everything that had taken place in Narnia such as Edmund, her
brother, being captured and also helping the Narnians escape the injustices from the White Witch.

Zoos Should Be Banned
Imagine walking through the zoo as a child, thinking how awesome it is to see all of those big
interesting animals you would never get to encounter in the wild. Now think of walking
through the zoo when you are older seeing these same animals in a very different light. Instead
of seeing animals happily living their lives you see animals wandering aimlessly around their
small enclosures looking bored to tears and depressed. Is it fair that we keep these animals
cooped up specifically for our own entertainment? What right do we have to capture, contain, and
breed these precious animals as we please? Why should we get to control their lives when they
could obviously be living a better life elsewhere? Often these questions are meet with responses
of conservation and education, but in reality those defenses have little backing. No animal
should be forced to live in captivity for its whole life, which is why zoos should be banned since
they are truly unjust to the animals living in them. The first and most obvious sign of being
treated unjustly is the size of the animals enclosures. Sure the enclosures may seem large at a
glance, but they are definitely not measuring up to the miles and miles of freedom that the animal
would have in the wild. Especially for traveling animals such as elephants this creates a large
problem. These animals are known to travel approximately thirty miles per day in the wild, and
have no chance of doing that in the spaces they are confined to in zoos

Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love...
Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has
a bit of him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the
pretentious triviality of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13
14), and the lack of confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of
epigraph from Dante s Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock
sharing his feelings with his listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a
similar fate as himself, so to does Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never
turn back and descend the stair (line 39). Prufrock s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized
not only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire
can be seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the
ethereal, inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but
further, to say exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis
leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not
have all the time in the world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of
desire, as in the rhyme of lines 79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further
hinders the expression of his desire. And we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images
in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self
confidence to express his desires. Yet after the social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade,
the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to
turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is largely reflecting on these issues himself rather
than to another listener one notices that he is unable to even mention his desires to himself, so

Applying Different Analytical Approaches For Films Dog...
Applying different analytical approaches to films
Dog soldiers
Critical approaches:
The sound used in dog soldiers was very dramatic and is non diegetic. The editing was fast paced
and added dramatic tension to the setting of the film; the setting was quite dark throughout the
film and as it was set in an isolated house in a forest this also helped to add to the dramatic effect.
In terms of cinematography, there was a large amount of point of view shots and certain points of
the film were in black and white. Accelerated hot reverse shot shows energy of conversation and
can see the characters emotion and reactions. Zoom into window towards woman, slow motion fire
chasing the car and explosion. Camerawork medium shots, close ups, handheld camera views,
over the shoulder and pan of men around the table. The technical elements identified to help find
out what the genre of the film would be, the fact that it includes a lot of violence, blood and
intense scenes would lead most audiences to believe it was a thriller or horror type film. Another
convention is that is evident in dog soldiers is fantasy; this is because it includes werewolves, who
are not proven to be real, there are also some elements of comedy.
Fire light gave a very gloomy/dangerous environment, around Ryan soldiers appeared tired/sweaty

Bourdieu Habitus Concept
Introduction The French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu approaches the concept of power using a
similar concept with Foucault which they presume that power is that there are always structures
that are formed by human relationships which dictates how people should behave. These
structures influence the individual social life. However, Foucault criticized that he has concept
that is radical and broader making it difficult to identify any social context of where the action of
exercise of power occurs (Gaventa, 2003). Unlike Bourdieu who narrows down it in terms of
symbolically mediated interaction between the Habitus and social structure (Bourdieu, 1991).

It is extremely difficult for the average person to understand how a religion that cannot agree on a
name for their God could survive. The survival of Judaism for almost 4,000 years with half of its
history existing without a homeland, a temple or a common geographical location can be credit to
their teaching of the Torah. The word Torah is derived from the verb to guide or to teach 3.
Historically Judaism has survived by the older generation teaching the younger generation the heart
of their faith carried and communicated through the way, the path and the teachings of the Torah.
Torah technically refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. These five books are called

A Look into Psychology
Psychology is known to be the scientific study of the human s mind and behavior. Psychology is

The Things That Makes One Tick
In other words, what are the things that makes one tick? That brings us to choose certain paths,
even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks
can be thought of mistakes. A professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Dan Ariely,
studied this issue up close. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both
explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without
any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it
again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like,
procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been
aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into
irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we
make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how
we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks
louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making
promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. But as soon as we spot materialistic
things, our emotions come rush in bringing us to the hot state. When we ignore our long term goals
for the immediate fulfilment, we are in fact

The Impacts Of Globalization In China
Globalisation refers to the integration between different countries and economies and the
increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity . China
is the world s second largest economy and is the fastest growing economy over the past decades,
hence known as an emerging economy, by sustaining an average rate of growth of around 10%
GDP p.a (2014). Hence, with the transition from a purely planned to a market driven or free
market economy has also facilitated progress in development, trade and increases in per capita
income paving the way for poverty reduction. The impacts of globalisation have enabled the
Chinese government to adopt various strategies in response, and consequently have had
significant impacts on the Chinese economy to promote _______ and _______. China has
sustained a high rate of average annual growth in real GDP 10.1% between 1998 and 2008. The
growth rate peaked at 14.2% in 2007 but slowed to 9.2% due to the impact of the Global
Financial Crisis (GFC) on China s exports and inflows of foreign investments. Hence, in 2015,
China s growth was 6.9%, falling to 6.7% in 2016 and forecast at 6.7% in 2017. Despite these
recent slowdowns, the Chinese economy has seen a rapid rise in overall economic performance
over the past years due to the introduction of globalisation. The Chinese government has capitalised
on growth opportunities through policies promoting trade and foreign investment. Through the

Mesh Dependency And Simp Method
This approach is called Solid Isotropic Material with Penalty (SIMP), in which material is assumed
to be dependent upon density linearly. In accordance to the SIMP technique, the design variables
are a sum of material densities denoted as (ПЃ) that relates the stiffness of an element straight to
the density of that element (James , et al., 2014). According to (Gomes , et al., 2013) the three main
mathematical encounters with SIMP method are mesh dependency, checkboard patterns and local
minima. To compensate for mesh dependency and checkboard patterns instabilities, a well known
sensitivity filter brought forth by Bendose Sigmund is used (Gomes , et al., 2013). The local
minima problem is dealt with by a continuation method with various... Show more content on

In the construction of the topology optimisation problem, a material is assigned a density (ПЃ)
which is associated with a stiffness (E, E(ПЃ,q) = ПЃq E). This material density (ПЃ) can then be
used by each finite element in the initial topology problem design space with E as the stiffness for
the isotropic material. The problems can be solved as void if ПЃ = 0 or associated material if ПЃ
=1. Therefore, if ПЃ tends to be zero, the stiffness in that given element is zero, which means the
element can be deleted because it is no longer important for the structure (Rao, et al., n.d.).
However, if the density reaches one then that element is of dire importance to the structure and
cannot be deleted (Rao, et al., n.d.). If this simple formulation is used, the total elastic energy
measure (U) can be used as the objective function of the optimisation problem. This formulation is
written below: Minimise: U n=1.....,N Subject to: ∑_(N 1)^Nв
–’гЂ–гЂ–ПЃгЂ—_n V_n=V_0
〗 (2.1) 0 ≤ ρn ≤ 1 n = 1......,N This formulation in equation (1) and can also be
extended to suite multiple load case problems by minimising the weight of the total elastic energies.

Challenge DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000) definition of culture using Richards (1999) or Anae (1997). How do DeVito et al look at membership within a cultureand how does Richards see it differently? DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000, p.99) definition of culture is very limited when describing modern cultures of globalised human society. Perhaps where people are isolated to villages, towns or countries with little communication with the outside world, the definition would be completely workable. Essay Social amp; Cultural reality theory in action Melissa Peters Bachelor of Arts Student, Open Polytechnic Introduction How is it we know when to laugh, cry or shout? Or when it would be rude or inappropriate to do so? Why is it we value integrity, honesty, respect...or not? And where do our religious or spiritual beliefs and practices come from? This essay looks at theories of social construction and their part in the development of cultural and societal realities. We look at constructivism as a means of learning social norms, values, beliefs etc using examples from the production Tapu (Smith and Haami, 2000). In particular we ll address the theories of emotional construction and rule governing. So what is social construction? Social construction is the idea that our understanding of reality derives from interaction with others. It refers to the way we create meaning and understanding to build collectively held beliefs. These beliefs are called social constructions or constructs .

Introduction Sheep are an important part of the global agricultural economy. Domestic sheep provide a wide array of raw materials. Wool is one of the first textiles although in the late 20th century wool prices began to fall as the result of the popularity and cheap prices for synthetic fabrics . Sheep meat and milk are the earliest staple proteins consumed by human civilization after the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture. Byproducts from the slaughter of sheep are also of value; sheep tallow can be used in candle and soap making while, sheep bone and cartilage has been used to furnish carved items such as dice and buttons . Parasitic nematodes cause diseases of major economic importance in sheep .The lungworm , Dictyocaulus filaria , represents one of these nematodes inhabits bronchi and bronchioles and cause parasitic bronchitis (commonly known as husk) particularly in young sheep ( Holzhauer et al., 2011). Dictyocaulus filaria has direct life cycle, embryonated eggs are coughed up or swallowed and hatch in the small intestine then first stage larvae are passed in faeces. • 6. What Does Pearl Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the character Pearl is not only a major character, but also a constant symbol of redemption. She is the punishment for Dimmesdale and Hester s sin as well as their path to salvation. Most importantly, however, Pearl is the scarlet letter itself. Pearl s behavior and influence establish her role as a key symbol and a means to the evolution of the other characters. Throughout The Scarlet Letter, Pearl serves as a punishment to Dimmesdale and Hester for their adultery. She is described as an elf child with an impish grin , demonstrating her wild and devious nature. In Mirror Imagery in The Scarlet Letter , Michael L. Lasser states that Hester thinks Pearl must be disordered and even essentially evil (274). Pearl s mischievous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pearl is symbolic of nature, exemplified by her birdlike movements and her wild spirit. Since nature represents God, Pearl is essentially bringing her parents closer to God, and therefore absolving them of their sin. She reminds Hester to repent when she took some eel grass, and imitated, as best as she could, on her own bosom, the decoration with which she was so familiar on her mother s (161). Since green represents nature and God, Pearl aids Hester in realizing that in order to be closer to God and salvation, she must accept her sin. Although on a macrocosmic scale Pearl is symbolic of nature, in the scene on the beach she symbolizes the little gray bird from the sea. She pelts the seabirds with pebbles, but stops because it grieved her to have done harm to a little being that was as wild as the sea breeze, or as wild as Pearl herself (160). The gray bird has a white breast, illustrating that although Pearl s behavior is shady, her intentions are pure. In addition, by representing a bird, Pearl flies between Heaven and Earth, becoming Hester s path to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With the latter half of this definition, we begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual interests in children who have had no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have their daily life affected by the feelings that they are having toward ... Pierre Trudeau s War Measures Act Pierre Elliotte Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada during the 1970s, was the man who saved Quebec from separating from Canada by using the War Measures Act very effectively. At that time, Quebec was in a bad situation because of a terrorist group called the FLQ (Front de libГ©ration du QuГ©bec), that had been bombing Quebecsince 1963 and gathering people to carry violent demonstrations and destruction. The situation got worse by each passing day as the FLQ s revolutionary movement turned into terrorism. The government faced a tough situation. Though there had been an initial fear of the military in the minds of the people, the soldiers soon won their hearts by their devotion and effective actions. The War Measures Act banned the FLQ demonstrations (which were earlier allowed) to prevent violence, preserve order and protect the people and public places from attacks. The civilians were completely safe as the officers only swooped down on suspects chosen from lists assembled by the Quebec and Montreal forces, as told by John English (88). The fear of the government could be seen in the terrorists only after the implementation of the act, which showed that Canada will respond harshly and not keep quite. There are certain moments in one s life when an incident is so powerful, emotionally or physically, that it leaves a mark on a person forever. The branded symbol that is left could be positive or negative, but there is no doubt that it has caused a wave of all encompassing feeling. His frequent use of techniques such as alliteration and flashback, as well as his overall construction of the poem, easily conveys the anguish and torment that comes along with remembering something that one has tried so hard to forget. Komunyakaa s use of alliteration has helped to slow down time, in a way: Phrases such as My black face fades (Line 1) take a longer time to read, and therefore, one has more time to let words sink in. Saying that the character s face is fading not only represents emotion through word choice and diction but it allows certain words to be read with more force, which expresses the author s idea that that word has extreme importance to the overall content and theme of the piece. Komunyakaa also makes clear use of flashback throughout the poem: I see a booby trap s white flash, A white vet s image floats closer to me В… he s lost his right arm . Literary devices such as this one provides evidence towards the general tone of the poem: a dreary and depressing image of a past incident. The way the poem is constructed is also confirmation that Komunyakaa wants certain words and phrases to be prominent. His use of enjambment forces one to concentrate on certain thoughts: I turn that wayВ—I m inside causes one to imagine that the main character is deep inside his train of thought; however, when reading the next line it is obvious that the literal meaning of the phrase is that the character is ... Knowledge refers to awareness or familiarity, gained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you are born, your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you grow, your mind becomes aware of things and begins filling the clear sheet of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledgeis invaluable. Ignoranceis bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating that question. Ignorance is bliss; a phrase that is well clarified in the book Giver and the following films: Fahrenheit 451and Pleasantville. Ignorance is bliss is well elucidated in the book Giver due to the following statements. The book Giver illustrates that everyone in the community is happy, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason why Jonas and Giver are unhappy is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been passed on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is happiness, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas knew that releasing is death, he agreed on the idea of releasing, but as he discovers that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, representing a shock, and sadness. Lighting, dialogue, and distance all are tools Hitchcock employs to aid in his omission of certain details. The main asset Hitchcock exploits is the distance L.B. Jeffries is trapped at in comparison to where the real drama takes place for much of the film. This distance leaves the viewer feeling perturbed. Hitchcock utilizes the distance between Jeffries s window, through which most of the film is shot, and the actions taking place in the apartments all the way across the courtyard to hide the dialogue between the characters. Jeffries is unable to leave his apartment and since the camera does not either, the viewer is rendered just as impotent as him. Hitchcock makes it clear that Mr. Thorwald is on the phone and from the attention drawn to him the viewer is led to believe that what he is saying could lead to the discovery of what happened to his wife. Both Dawe s poems The Not So Good Earth and Up The Wall have successfully demonstrated the issues of the complacency of our society towards the world around us and their issues and the disconnection this thenceforth creates in everyday life and how this impacts the individual. Dawe s poem, Up The Wall, truly validates the impact of the suburban, everyday lifestyle on the individual and how the loneliness this creates can push someone to the edge. Dawe s use of onomatopoeia with the abrupt words of shrieked and screams really imposes that internal struggle the woman was experiencing. The use of direct dialogue, spoken by the women when she speaks, they nearly drove me up the wall! although whom she was speaking to was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the use of a simile, like a horizon he argues that the individual s lifestyle has no sense of change and their day is always the same routine, which evokes the acceptance and no thought for change. The dialogue of the final sestet from the two people conversing outside of the household is deeply ironic due to the detection of disconnectedness from the outside world, indicating the lack of dialogue, as no one is aware of her misery. Dawe uses repetition in this dialogue, quiet... too quiet which reiterates the detachment from society and the fragility of our humanity and what has become of us as a whole. Through Up The Wall, Bruce Dawe effectively demonstrates the issues of the complacent society our world has become and how ordinary life has affected individuals in a way that we have become completely detached from our ... • 30. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Essay The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the first of several novels in the C.S. Lewis s Chronicles of Narnia. These books tell stories of another universe that is called Narnia. Here there are many unearthly things from talking animals and evil witches. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the story of four young siblings who discover this new world by entering a wardrobe. Little did they know, they were destined to become the new royalty of Narnia but only after going through many battles. In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis analyzes the character Lucy, the theme of good versus evil, and the parallels of Narnia to other literature and Lewis s life. When Mr. Tumnus began to tell Lucy of all of the evil plans he was supposed to follow, she replied to him in disbelief by saying, I think you are the nicest Faun I ve ever met and I m sure you wouldn t do anything of the sort (Lewis 19). Lucy s will to see the good in him ultimately influence Mr. Tumnus to risk his life for hers (Emerson). During Lucy s adventure she goes through several tests of her character. The first test she encounters is trying to convince her siblings that Narnia does exist (Emerson). The first time she tried to show them Narnia, the wardrobe did not lead to anything unlike it had when she entered it before (Lewis 25). Many at this time would think that they had dreamed or imagined Narnia, but not Lucy. She knew what she had seen and felt and would not allow others to bully her into thinking otherwise (Emerson). Her siblings did not believe her and ridiculed her by making fun of her saying it was all just a hoax and that she was just a little girl who had an imagination (Lewis 25). Later on in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Lucy s second test arrives. She is the only one who is willing to take responsibility for everything that had taken place in Narnia such as Edmund, her brother, being captured and also helping the Narnians escape the injustices from the White Witch. • 32. Zoos Should Be Banned Imagine walking through the zoo as a child, thinking how awesome it is to see all of those big interesting animals you would never get to encounter in the wild. Now think of walking through the zoo when you are older seeing these same animals in a very different light. Instead of seeing animals happily living their lives you see animals wandering aimlessly around their small enclosures looking bored to tears and depressed. Is it fair that we keep these animals cooped up specifically for our own entertainment? What right do we have to capture, contain, and breed these precious animals as we please? Why should we get to control their lives when they could obviously be living a better life elsewhere? Often these questions are meet with responses of conservation and education, but in reality those defenses have little backing. No animal should be forced to live in captivity for its whole life, which is why zoos should be banned since they are truly unjust to the animals living in them. The first and most obvious sign of being treated unjustly is the size of the animals enclosures. Sure the enclosures may seem large at a glance, but they are definitely not measuring up to the miles and miles of freedom that the animal would have in the wild. Especially for traveling animals such as elephants this creates a large problem. These animals are known to travel approximately thirty miles per day in the wild, and have no chance of doing that in the spaces they are confined to in zoos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love... Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has a bit of him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the pretentious triviality of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13 14), and the lack of confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of epigraph from Dante s Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock sharing his feelings with his listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a similar fate as himself, so to does Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never turn back and descend the stair (line 39). Prufrock s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized not only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire can be seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the ethereal, inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but further, to say exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not have all the time in the world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of desire, as in the rhyme of lines 79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further hinders the expression of his desire. And we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self confidence to express his desires. Yet after the social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade, the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is largely reflecting on these issues himself rather than to another listener one notices that he is unable to even mention his desires to himself, so deeply ... Applying different analytical approaches to films Dog soldiers Critical approaches: The sound used in dog soldiers was very dramatic and is non diegetic. The editing was fast paced and added dramatic tension to the setting of the film; the setting was quite dark throughout the film and as it was set in an isolated house in a forest this also helped to add to the dramatic effect. In terms of cinematography, there was a large amount of point of view shots and certain points of the film were in black and white. Accelerated hot reverse shot shows energy of conversation and can see the characters emotion and reactions. Zoom into window towards woman, slow motion fire chasing the car and explosion. Camerawork medium shots, close ups, handheld camera views, over the shoulder and pan of men around the table. The technical elements identified to help find out what the genre of the film would be, the fact that it includes a lot of violence, blood and intense scenes would lead most audiences to believe it was a thriller or horror type film. Another convention is that is evident in dog soldiers is fantasy; this is because it includes werewolves, who are not proven to be real, there are also some elements of comedy. That brings us to choose certain paths, even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks can be thought of mistakes. A professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Dan Ariely, studied this issue up close. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like, procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. But as soon as we spot materialistic things, our emotions come rush in bringing us to the hot state. When we ignore our long term goals for the immediate fulfilment, we are in fact ... In accordance to the SIMP technique, the design variables are a sum of material densities denoted as (ПЃ) that relates the stiffness of an element straight to the density of that element (James , et al., 2014). According to (Gomes , et al., 2013) the three main mathematical encounters with SIMP method are mesh dependency, checkboard patterns and local minima. To compensate for mesh dependency and checkboard patterns instabilities, a well known sensitivity filter brought forth by Bendose Sigmund is used (Gomes , et al., 2013). In the construction of the topology optimisation problem, a material is assigned a density (ПЃ) which is associated with a stiffness (E, E(ПЃ,q) = ПЃq E). This material density (ПЃ) can then be used by each finite element in the initial topology problem design space with E as the stiffness for the isotropic material. The problems can be solved as void if ПЃ = 0 or associated material if ПЃ =1. Therefore, if ПЃ tends to be zero, the stiffness in that given element is zero, which means the element can be deleted because it is no longer important for the structure (Rao, et al., n.d.). However, if the density reaches one then that element is of dire importance to the structure and cannot be deleted (Rao, et al., n.d.).
