No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch Essay examples
Dog Food Fried, Flipped and Devoured
Eating dog food may not be seen as the easiest thing to stomach because the smell, texture and by
products found within the mixture are thought of as awful and revolting. In Ann Hodgman s No
Wonder They Call Me a Bitch , although the title may suggest otherwise, different types of dogfood
are discussed. In this essay, Hodgman aims to inform her readers about the inequality in different
types of dog food, as well as to entertain and amuse. Hodgman is writing to a broad audience, one of
dog lovers and owners, as well as those that may be curious as to what is really in dog food, or
more generally the packaging and processing of mass produced food of any kind. Language,
description and humor are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the author discusses a lite dog food and how the most positive part of the meal was
that it didn t make her fat (313). There is also a small amount of irony in the essay through the idea
of a taste testing going on, although it is not the pleasant experience of its connotation. The effect
of this hilarity creates a stronger contrast between the subject of the essay and comedic tone of the
writer.
In using the different techniques of language, description and humor, the author effectively
creates a bond with the reader, while at the same time informing and entertaining. At the core of
this essay, Hodgman is looking at how we view not only our dog s processed and packaged food,
but ours as well. Implied in the text are the questions regarding how well we take care of our
pets and ourselves. I think that the largest unknown within the essay is the question of how she
made it through the smell, texture and appearance of all this dog food. This leaves us being
reminded that if you re determined, there will be a way to make it through the mock bone
marrows and the Butcher s Blends and perhaps find a little bit more in food, and in life, than oily
nuggets and canned by products. (553)

Techniques Used In The Film Full Metal Jacket
You climb like old people fuck Private Pyle , Well any fucking time sweetheart! These two quotes
from the movie Full Metal Jacket are common techniques that most directors of war genre films
use to either grasp the attention of the audience or emphasize the scrounginess of war. War in many
cases takes the perception of life out of many soldiers. When soldiers return home, they are
desensitized to killing. Wargenre films use fast cutting scenes, captivating descriptions of scenery ,
and aggressive degrading language to promote the negative connotations of war.
Like many war films, fury doesn t stray far from the norm. The director uses aggressive and vulgar
language, combined with fast cutting and high paced shooting scenes, to convey many messages to
us the viewer. In one specific scene where the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, The Yellow Birds, Kevin Powers is a master at Keeping our attention on a specific
event. He uses long strung sentences to give us a perfect picture of what is going on at one
specific moment. In one of the opening chapters the narrator expands on one idea about the
topography and landscape, The war tried to kill us in the spring. As grass greened the plains of
Nineveh and the weather warmed, we patrolled the low slung hills beyond the cities and towns.
We moved over them and through the tall grass on faith, kneading paths into the windswept
growth like pioneers. While we slept, the war rubbed its thousand ribs against the ground in
prayer. This passage paints a clear picture in our minds about what the war zone looked like. Like
many war genre novels, The Yellow Birds doesn t fall far from the tree. The same techniques are

Mind Map Analysis
I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other
discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which
shows the strength of the word Terrorism and the problems that have occurred because of it. It
was interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of
people mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While
there were many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the
mind map. One of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is
friends with many of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also
works at the school, and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that
she was there. This was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting I
could not imagine the stress and fear that my peer must have endured. I also saw a bubble with
KKK written inside of it. This stood out to me because I go to school in Charlottesville, which is

A bubble that stood out to me was Middle East. While many people may think of the Middle
East when the word terrorism is in mind, it puts a negative connotation on the entire region. This
goes for other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the
words Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going
back to the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I
had already completed one year of school and had an overall positive opinion of the city. The
current reputation is racist and violent; while I don t agree with this, it has made me question

Mexican Culture Research Paper
What makes a culture distinctive? What shapes a culture s development throughout history? For
many cultures, one of the main answers is religion. Religion has, for millennia, formed the
backbone of most societies, and it often shapes people s identity. Mexico is no different. The
connection of religion and culturein Mexico is made clear through its current demographics, its
history, and its festivals.
Religion is a part of most people s lives in Mexico. In the 2010 census, approximately 90% of the
population claimed to be at least nominally religious: 82.7% of the population identified as Roman
Catholic, with another 9% claiming an affiliation with another religion ( Mexico, n.d.). The practice
of Catholicism in the country varies greatly, from groups that follow a rigid interpretation of
Catholic doctrine to indigenous groups who practice syncretistic religions, or the mixing of
Catholic practices with traditional, indigenous rituals. For these indigenous cultures, religion helps

One of the most important festivals is the Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe, or the Day of the
Virgin of Guadalupe. This is celebrated on December 12 by most of the population, even those
who are only nominally religious. On this holiday, people remember the day the Virgin of
Guadalupe reportedly appeared to a man named Juan Diego in 1531 (Cline, 2015). People across
the country celebrate with dancing, food, and music and many even make a pilgrimage across
the country to celebrate at the basilica in Mexico City. The Virgin of Guadalupe is the country s
patron saint, and her image has been used throughout Mexican history, not only as a religious icon
but also as a sign of patriotism ( Everything You Need to Know about la Virgen de Guadalupe,
2013). The devotion to the Guadalupe has remained constant over the years, even as other aspects

3.1Austria
Austria is member of the European Union since 1995 and entered the Euro Zone in 1999. The

Focussing on the development from 2011 on, the first half of 2011 is marked of economic recovery,
supported by market regulations like Basel III and the OeNB supplying large amounts of long term
liquidity, leading to a decreasing unemployment rate. In the second half of the year geopolitical
tensions like an earthquake in Japan, growth in debt in several Euro countries, tensions in the bond
and interbank market led to uncertainty in the global financial markets which negatively influenced
the Austrian labour market pushing the unemployment rate on a level of 4.3%.
2012 is considered to be a year of economic slowdown. Decreasing exports, less domestic
investments and consumption led to less demand for la bour and increased the unemployment rate
from 4.0% to 5.0%.
In 2013 a slight increase of the Austrian economy can be spotted inter alia in increasing domestic
consumption. On the other hand more foreign workers are entering the Austrian labour market due
to worse situations in their home countries, making the unemployment rate rise to 5.6%.
The upcoming years 2014 and 2015 are marked by slow economic growth and an ongoing increase
of the Austrian labour force leading the unem ployment rate to settle down around 5.6%. Figure 2

In this paper we are going to analyze the quality of water affected by the parameter. The quality of
water is not equal and constant. Water quality is affected by different type of parameters such as
Colour, Turbidity, Total dissolved solids, Taste and odour, PH is the physical parameters. Chloride,
calcium, magnesium, sulphate, total hardness is the chemical parameters.
5.1 Colour
Colour is measured in Hazen units. Colour can originate from organic matter in the soil through or

spectrum of visible radiation by substances in dissolved in water, colloidal substances, and
suspended particles present in water.
5.2 Turbidity
Turbidity is dirtiness of water and is measured by a light scattering technique. Turbidity is a
measure of how particles suspended in water affect water clarity.
5.3 PH
PH is a measure of a solution s acidity. In water, small numbers of water molecules (H2O) will
break apart or disassociate into hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH ). Other compounds

Relationship Between Society And One s Own Personhood
According to Harry G. Frankfurt s writings, personhood is bound by one s wills and desires, and
the various ways these influence our actions. His philosophy focuses primarily on the mind and
how it guides out wills. Frankfurt, for example, does not allow for any external influences on
personal identity, nor does he allow the mind s interpretation of the body, resulting in a narrow
view on one s personhood. Susan J. Brison offers an alternative. Her piece, Outliving Oneself:
Trauma, Memory, and Personal Identity, describes the ways our relationships with both our body
and society influence our personhood. Along with Brison, ethicist J. S. Swindell s piece, Facial
Allograft Transplantation, Personal Identity, and Subjectivity, describes the effect facial allograft
surgeries have on the recipients. In this paper, I will examine the relationship between society and
one s own personhood, and argue that it is important to realize how both society and the mind s
relationship with the body influences one s self perceptions and personhood. Frankfurt s theories
on personhood primarily revolve around the relationship the mind establishes with wills and
desires, as well as the preferential treatment some wills receive over others, called second order
volitions. He rejects the belief that a personis an entity with both mental and physical properties, as
this definition would allow for many non human animals to be considered persons (Frankfurt 5). To
Frankfurt, personhood

Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay
Elizabeth 1
To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to
religious uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring
peace for all the people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity
proclaimed by Elizabeth I in 1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of
Parliament, have in part created the religious freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that
this religious uniformity would shape a lot of things that would come to pass later on in life, as
Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that would shape religion and the beliefs on how to
worship that still go on this this current day. One of The act of Supremacy and the act of
uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s independence from Rome, while the
act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made church attendance on Sundays and
holy days something that was obligatory. This very act would go on to shape some of the laws,
and a lot of the thinking behind the way things are still done to this very day. Some of the laws
are influence by the act of uniformity... In this time period different religious beliefs were being
questioned and shaped, and the act of uniformity was designed to create order so that all the
different religious groups could follow a unified religious belief. Elizabeth I ultimate goal was to
create and build a stable, peaceful nation
Elizabeth I was a keen

Why Software Should Be Free By Richard Stallman

In the paper Why Software Should Be Free written by Richard Stallman, he argued that developers
should develop free software. In the paper, Stallman justified his belief of the free software
movement. Stallman believes that free software can be defined with the four essential freedoms: the
freedom to run the program however the users like, the freedom to modify the source code so that it
does different computing, the freedom to distribute copies of the program, and the freedom to
distribute the modified copies to others. In his justifications of his stand on free software, he argues
that people will still have the initiative to develop software even though they know that it will be
freely distributed. Hence, Stallman believes that one of the main goals for the ... Show more content

Stallman first reminded the readers that institutions do not have to be software houses to be able
to pay programmers. Stallman then brought out his own experience of making a living for six
years as a free software developer. Stallman talked about his experience of him being hired from
other institutions to make improvements for free software. He explained that these institutions are
able to fund programmers by using the money from donations from computer manufacturers.
Lastly, Stallman justified that although free software developer realized that they are getting paid
at least half of what they could make elsewhere, they do this because they will be free from
bureaucracy, and they feel good about themselves. They feel good about themselves because they
know their works are for the greater good for humanity. Hence, Stallman once again confirmed that
we do not have to worry that no one will program, since programming is the most fascinating of all

The Causes And Consequences Of Grade Inflation
Grade inflation has been a widespread issue that has been affecting many institutions. It may be in
a way where the instructor raises a students grade by one letter, or by raising a failing grade to a
passing grade. Many colleges and universities to this day use the typical letter grading system which
is A,B,C,D,F. Some universities, on the other hand feel that this grading system is under estimating
students intelligence and abilities. Also, many universities are suffering from the problem of grades
that are expanding. Professors and teachers who over evaluate the quality of the students work or
assignment and consequently assign a gradehigher than what the student deserves mainly cause the
problem. Causes that might cause grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives, target of
getting an A grade and avoiding an F and students being in competition with their classmates.
One of the causes of grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives or high expectations
from parents to their children. Many parents put pressure on their children to get good grades. As
a result, the children demand to get A s to meet one of their parents expectations, which is to good
a good job. They get motivated to only get the best of grades. This later becomes a students
personal motive. The students get motivated by letter grades and believe that an A is the only
acceptable grade and a doorway to a brighter future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Flag Desecration
The flag of the United States of America isn t only just a piece of cloth, it is a symbol of hope
and freedom that represents our entire nation and the brave men and women who serve to
protect it. As American citizens, we must protect our flag from any harm. I love my flag, and
the country that it represents, but I know as much as anyone that America isn t perfect. That is
why if I believe that something is wrong or needs to be changed in our country, then I can speak
up, I can protest, I can make my elected officials hear my voice and listen to what I have to say.
It is my constitutional right and a blessing to do so; but using the flag as a torch is a form of
protest that should be illegal, and that I will not tolerate. It is our duty as American citizens to
protect the flag and remind everyone of the freedoms and liberties that it represents. The American
Flag is a symbol of hope and freedom in our country. It glides high, reminding us of the freedoms
that we have. It gives hope to all of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Adrian Cronauer, a

Stephen King Learning To Write Analysis
Comparing Different Approaches on How to Become a Better Writer
The importance of reading is well described by two highly educated and skilled authors. Reading
to Write by Stephen King and Learning to Read by Malcom X. King s piece looks to encourage
hopeful writers by expounding upon the importance of incessantly reading in order to become a
better writer. X s account goes into how he was able to teach himself to read which opened up
unlimited knowledge to him. He hopes to encourage others to read to defeat ignorance and
prevent being controlled by misinformation and hidden truths. Both authors do their job in
relating their passion for reading and absolutely inspire the reader to pick up a book. King does
this far better by being much more relatable by sharing personal experiences whereas X s
description digresses into his own personal motives far too often to be as effective. King s style
is informal, familiar and yet direct as a means of impressing his wisdom upon the reader. From the

St. Thomas Aquinas Research
St. Thomas Aquinas persuaded me about the existence of God on the grounds that Aquinas five
ways supply logical reasoning. Aquinas first way is that nothing can move itself without a
mover, in other words, in order for an object to move it must have a mover. I concur with Aquinas
assertion, it makes logical sense on the grounds that everything we do necessitates a mover. An
illustration would be a car, in order for a car to move one must drive the car for it to move.
Aquinas concludes that there must be a primary mover (God) that is not itself moved. In addition,
Aquinas second way asserts that it is impossible for natural things to be the absolute and sufficient
sources of their own existence, that there must be an uncaused cause proficient

Langston Hughes Inspiration
There are countless times as one grows up when you just stop for a second and reminisce on
random things. These memories serve for a very special purpose as the things you do in life
shapes you into the person you will become. Today, many authors and poets make use of their
memories and experiences in their work as a way to reflect back on their lives, raise awareness, or
just simply to tell a story. As a prominent contributor to the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes
was an inspirational poet who highlighted many aspects of the urban life of African Americans
through reflections of his own life and experiences. As a writer, a poet and a prominent activist of
the civil rights movement, Langston Hughes was a man that was not only... Show more content on

Through this mindset, Hughes set out to revolutionize poetry and created such expressive and
inspirational work just by reflecting on his own life. He also takes into account with the existing
racism at this time that was against him and anyone of color. By incorporating his life into his
work, it created a voice for those who were not able to speak up and as a result, life met art (The
Harlem Project).
Throughout his works, especially his poetry, Hughes also draws inspiration from music. He
describes the blues as sad funny songs too sad to be funny and too funny to be sad as the songs
hold laughter and pain, hunger and heartache (Poetry Criticism). This point of view is
noticeably reflected onto his poems when some stanzas are in the form of the typical blues song
(Poetry Criticism). In other words, the stanza had two nearly identical lines followed by a third
that contrasts the first two and this is seen in Same in Blues where he uses the repetition of the
word baby in the first two lines. In his poetry, Hughes captures the voices, experience, emotions
and spirit of the African Americans during this time. His poems have also been influenced by the
Afro American life essays written by W.E.B. DuBois and the black vernacular (DiYanni p.700
705). This is shown in Fine Clothes to the Jew, as Hughes addresses the hardship and struggle of
urban African Americans in Harlem who left the deep south in hopes of achieving their American
Dream. However,

Persuasive Essay On Football Predictionss

Before you do anything else (before you put any money at stake) make sure that you know what

be best if you would read about the subject matter first before you start betting on any team.
The internet is teeming with information on the subject. You can search for articles and websites

Literature Review Theoretical Framework
An Overview:
The literature that I have been gathering and going through since last few weeks, have just mounted
the evidence that Positionality is interpreted uniquely by the diverse group of people.
Positionality always existed; it s only that people have become more responsive to it now.
Every person is unknowingly or knowingly positioning himself in the mind of the other. This can
occur when a person is in the company of his colleagues, his friends, relatives, or even in his own
house! This impact or the impression as we call it casually can be through very subtle signs of the
person s expressions and responses to some particular views, ideas or opinions. Even a person s
appearance through the way he presents himself, contributes enormously in constructing an image
or a position of that particular person in the mind of the other.
Looking at a wider perspective, ones own positionality can prove to be a big hurdle in his/her life.
Positionality stops a person from being creative or thinking outside the box. It makes a person
very rigid very confound. And this in itself is a barrier to your success.
Corporates today are constantly under pressure. The pressure of giving the right

Life Process Of A Cell
Cell Biology
Introduction
The report will look at and discuss the life process of a cell, the functions of the cell and the cells
structure. A cell is the smallest unit of an organism and is the building block of all living things.
Key life processes of a cell
All living things including cells have some life processes in common. There are seven processes
that they need to preform to be classed alive. These are:
1)Movementall living things have movement including plants
2)Respirationthe process of getting energy from food
3)Sensitivitythis allows the living thing to detect changes in the surroundings
4)Growth all living things grow
5)Reproductionto reproduce and make more living things of the same type
6)Excretiongetting rid of waste product
7)Nutritiontaking in and using food
Viruses are not known as living like cells as living things require nutrition and viruses do not. A
virus is not live; it is unable to absorb nutrients, produce or excrete waste; so viruses attach
themselves to living organism known as a host to survive and gain the nutrition they need. They
also need the host to be able to move and reproduce as they unable to do this alone. Viruses have to
inject its viral DNA into the host cell it has invaded in order to get the host to reproduce for it.
Understanding living cells and distinguishing them from viruses
There are two primary types of cells prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The key difference between the
two is that the eukaryotic cells contain

Inflation And Unemployment Rate In The United States
Over the last few years GDP, inflation, and unemployment rates have fluctuated. Currently, they
seem fairly stable. GDP is at a 2.1% growth rate. The trend hasn t changed much over time. It seems
that the only thing that has really shrunk throughout time with GDP is the amount of exports the
US sends out, whereas personal consumption, government spending, and investment added
percentage points to the growth rate. With the growing GDP, unemployment rate appears to be
decreasing. While it is at 4.5%, this is significantly lower than it has been in the past. The growth
of GDP has allowed for new investments in technology and being able to find new ways to produce
goods and services, thus causing problems with unemployment. Despite the fact... Show more

The unemployment rate was going down, but the inflation and GDP growth rate were constantly
fluctuating. Starting in 2003, the GDP growth rate was at a meager 2%, but that quickly jumped
to 7% by 2003. Unemployment went from nearly 6% in 2002 down to roughly 4.5% by 2007.
The rate of inflation, between 2004 and 2006, varied around the 3% mark, hitting a max of 4.7%
and a minimum of roughly 1.7%. The data from the graphs shows that the rates of GDP and
inflation began to drop more significantly as 2007/2008 was approached, and the unemployment
rate began to skyrocket. The recession wasn t a good time for the economy of the United States.
There wasn t much income, prices dropped, even though this didn t benefit consumers much

growth rate of GDP shows that something was not right. By January of 2009, the rate had

people lost their jobs because there wasn t enough money in the economy to keep them around.
Even today there are still a lot of people that are unemployed because they cannot find work. The

If simply looking at this commercial while watching a television show, we just assume that they

ABSTRACT
The Brassica rapa is a rapid growing plant that has a standard form and a mutant rosette form.
Relative to normal plants, the rosette form is shorter and takes longer to flower. The mode of
inheritance of the rosette gene was tested by crossing two true breeding plants, one of each form.
The F1 generation was then cross pollinated to produce an F2 generation. The phenotypes of each
generation were recorded and a chi square test was performed. The F1 offspring were almost

After a week, the phenotypes of the plants were recorded in Table 2. The strongest plant in each
cell was left in the quad, and the others were removed in order to thin the plants.
Pollinating Flowers The plants were continually monitored and watered when needed. At
approximately two weeks from the day the seeds were planted, several flowers were open on the
plants. The plants were then cross pollinated using a pollinating wand. The pollen from one plant
was transferred to another, using approximately eight flowers. This was done three different days
with one day in between. After the third pollination, the unopened buds were removed. The plants
were kept watered, and the new buds and shoots were removed for the next 14 days.
Harvesting Seeds Once 14 days had passed from the day of the third pollination, the quad was
removed from the watering tray and left to dry for a week. Then, the dry seed pods were removed
and cracked open so that the seeds could be collected.
Germinating Seeds A piece of filter paper was moistened and then placed in a petri dish, and any
excess water was poured off. The harvested seeds were then placed in neat rows on the upper two
thirds of the filter paper. The petri dish was then tilted on end in a water reservoir containing
approximately two centimeters of water. The reservoir and dish were then placed under the
fluorescent light to germinate for 48 hours. After the 48 hours, the

Dramatic Irony In Shakespeare s King Richard III
An unfavourable representation of the king and his court In the beginning of Act 2 Scene1 of
Shakespeare s King Richard III, everyone is in a room in King Edward s palace. Edward sent a
letter to pardon Clarence but it got intercepted by Richard. Which is why, Clarence has just been
executed but no one knows about it. This is the first and only scene that Edward will appear in.
He is sick and expects to die so he is trying to make peace between Queen Elizabeth, her son
Dorset, her brother Rivers, and Hastings, and Buckingham. He needs to ensure that his kingdom
does not fall apart after he passes away and that the power still stays with his family. To achieve
this, Edward gets three of the Woodvilles, Rivers, Queen Elizabeth, and Dorset, to swear an oath
with Hastings. This passage paints a very unflattering picture of the king and his court: an egoistic
king, and two faced nobles, through religious language and dramatic irony. Edward starts off the
scene by congratulating himself with work that he has not yet done when he comments... Show

Edward s character increases the irony because he is so full of himself. This causes him to
believe that he actually reconciled all the quarrelling nobles and brought peace among them. At
the same time, the nobles actions and words are also very misleading compared to what they are
actually thinking. Later it is proven that Edward s reconciliation failed when the Woodville family
didn t claim the throne, but instead Richard did, bringing chaos and starting the War of Bosworth.
Edward tries to portray himself as a powerful and religious king but his big ego prevents him from
seeing how deceitful his court is. Overall, this passage expresses how the appearance of characters

Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver
Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with
societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a
hilarious degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative.
Comedians that engage in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any
other means. Satire disarms the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their
criticisms, and is an especially powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. Last Week
Tonight with John Oliver uses the satirical news format as a means to address the ridiculousness
of beauty pageants as it continues to objectify women in a climate in which social constructs are
shifting towards feminist equality and persuasion of the audience to agree with the commentary.
Considering the context of the Miss America Pageant reflection by John Oliver in his satirical
news program, his goal is to select a particular topic to deconstruct and discuss the inadequacies
with a humoristic flair. The social climate from the early 20th Century introduction of the Miss
America Pageant to current day is vastly different, and while the pageant evolved over the last 90
plus years, the basic tenets remain. Today s woman is considered to be independent, strong,
intelligent and the physical appearance is but a side note. However, the pageant maintains the focus

Abdominal surgery means that your stomach muscles will never be the same again. This is the
main muscle group that supports the torso in the front of the body. If surgery is required on this
area, then there will be a weakness in the torso. Using a waist cincher will protect the area of the

Because the abdominal muscles support the torso, this can create serious problems for some

Speech On Molecular Gastronomy
I What is molecular gastronomy?
A Definition
Ice sphere cocktails, grenadine sirop caviar and disappearing transparent raviolis are all examples
of Molecular gastronomy. This discipline is a mixture of physics and chemistry and is used to
transform the taste and the texture of food. We commonly use the term Molecular Gastronomy in
order to describe a new style of cuisine. Chefs now use tools from the science laboratory, and
unusual ingredients from the food industry to expend their culinary possibilities. Officially, it is the
scientific discipline that explains the chemical and physical transformations and mechanisms that
occur while cooking. It also studies the social, artistic and technical side of gastronomy.

A Questionnaire on the American Samoan Society
In what ways was the traditional leadership of Samoan villages different from typical American
leadership?
On the political level in the United States, most leaders are elected directly or appointed to office
by politicians, although they often come from very wealthy and privileged backgrounds and have
their political careers financed by various special interests. Of course, much of the real leadership
in the country is based on wealth and income, or control of large corporations, bureaucracies and
financial institutions. Samoa has a matai or chief system that traditionally controlled the social,
political and economic order. Those in the lower castes were expected to show respect and
deference to their elders and hereditary rulers, rather than the more modern (post French
Revolution) concept of equal citizenship for all. Chiefs controlled all exchanges and the distribution
of wealth and land, which is also quite different from the capitalistic individualism that lies at the
core of modern American culture, and naturally the U.S. colonizers attempted to undermine this
traditional system.
How did the traditional system of chiefly power reinforce the close knit social system of village life?

Swot Analysis Of Schneider Electric
Schneider Electric Mergers and Acquisitions Strategy
Schneider Electric is an aggressive company when it comes to mergers and acquisitions. It reserves
part of its entire revenue every year to fund and reinforce its strategy in this area, and has constantly
acquired companies throughout its history. Pre 2000 Acquisitions Schneider Electricstarted as a
wartime armaments provider before refocusing itself onto the electrical industry in postwar
Europe. It separated from the iron and steel industry to do so. It acquired Telemecanique in 1988,
Square D in 1991, Merlin Gerin in 1992, and Lexel in 1999. These acquisitions mark the transition
of SE s industry focus from construction to electrical equipment. Advantages These strategic
acquisitions helped Schneider gain advantages in the fields of circuit breakers and switchgear.
Telemechanique for example, was the inventor of the first switch and already had patents in their
name when SE acquired them. They were already present in 11 European countries and the United
States by the time the acquisition happened in 1988. This gave SE geographic advantages in circuit
breaker industry as well. Telemechanique retains its prestigious brand name (Telemechanique
Sensors) to this day. Merlin Gerin s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nine Lives By Ursula K. L Guin Analysis
Have you ever thought of the power that your words hold over people ; Or ever considered how
your body language might change the attitudes of people around you? This is the power of Human
Connection. Human Connection is a quality that everyone should possess . The process of
elaboration of a close , interpersonal homogeneity between two or more people. In the short story
Nine Lives by Ursula K. Le Guin the clones were unaccounted of this essence. The clones
independence and self sustaining behaviors were normal ... to them. They were typhlotic to

Why do i say that ? Because of the fact that the clones were used to themselves and no human

Love the neighbor as you love yourself....The neighbor was the self: the love was perfect all the

Why is this happening ? Why are the clones so emotionally and physically attached to
themselves ? in Nine Lives Le Guin states Any member of it would always receive the support

Cardiovascular Disease Is The Leading Cause Of Death For...
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and has an
average of 610,000 casualties in the United States every year. This could be contributed to the
fact that as adults, we tend to lead a very demanding lifestyle and constantly struggle through a
never ending to do list that diminishes the majority of our day. Inside our home, the office, events
for the holidays, and perhaps even school, our responsibility to take care of ourselves doesn t
quite make the priority cutoff. For one thing, it is my understanding I m supposed to exercise at
least three times a week. About one in every three U.S. adults has reported that no leisure time was

At the same time, with a little research it s never too late to change a bad habit and there is a light
at the end of the tunnel. Significant progress has been made over the last 50 years in understanding
the causes of chronic illnesses, as well as development in areas that provide knowledge to detect,
prevent, and maintain comparable diseases. Improvement in public health and health care have
increased life expectancy by approximately 30 years and has led to dramatic changes in the leading
causes of death. With this information we now have a better understanding of the long term effects
our choices will make and those results have already affected the market around us. Fast food
chains now provide menu selections for their health conscious customers such as nutritional
listings, optional cooking methods, and the use of organic and Non GMO ingredients. Similarly,
patients that suffer from congestive heart failure and smoke may be drawn to the more recent e
cigarette. Although e cigarettes still have years of long term testing in order to determine their
overall hazards and benefits, current research shows that there is potential for smokers to reduce
their health related risks if electronic cigarettes are used in place of tobacco cigarettes when on the
road to the ending tobacco or nicotine use.

Challenge To Royal Policies And Authority In Early Stuart...
The trend of challenge to Royal policies and authority in Early Stuart England (1603 49) was
significant because it resulted in Civil War and the overthrow of monarchical government.
This trend was influenced by political, social and economic forces. The political forces were mainly
over the debate between absolutism and constitutionalism. Social forces involved a conflict within
the Church of England between Arminianism/Laudianism and Puritanism. Underlying the political
and social forces were economic forces which have been subject to considerable debate among
historians.
Elizabeth died in 1603 and she was succeeded by her Protestant relative, King James VI of
Scotland. Though her reign had seen problems over religion, the 1559 Religious Settlement
remained intact and England had become more influenced on the world scene. English had become
the leading Protestant power in Europe.
James I became the King of England in 1603. He was determined to rule England wisely and he
had successfully ruled the troublesome Scots where many others had failed in the past. However,
he increased financial problems and difficulties in managing parliament. Even though James I
misunderstood some aspects of the governing of his reign and kept England at peace until 1624. In
Scotland, James I was known for his acceptance of different ... Show more content on

queried the whole concept of Parliament being in opposition to Royal authority that Members of

least 1638, where an opposition to Royal policies does then take

Disadvantages Of Free Trade
First, free trade is the economic policy of not discriminating against imports from and exports to
foreign jurisdictions. Sellers and Buyers from separate economies may deliberately trade without
the domestic government applying quotas, tariffs, prohibitions, or subsidies on their goods and
services. With emphasis, free tradeis the opposite of economic isolationism or trade protectionism.
Not to mention, governments with free trade agreements (FTAs) do not necessarily disregard all
control of taxation of exports and imports. In modern international trade, hardly any so called FTAs
fit the textbook definition of free trade (Investopedia, 2017).
Correspondingly, International trade is the foundation upon which American prosperity rests. Free
trade policies have built a level of competition in today s open market that engen ders continual
modernization and leads to better paying jobs, better products, new markets, and increased savings
and investment. Also, free trade allows more goods and services to reach American consumers at
lower prices, thereby considerably increasing their standard of living. Likewise, the benefits of
free trade continue well beyond American households. Not to men tion, free trade helps spread the
value of freedom, foster economic development in poor coun tries, and reinforce the rule of law.
The national debate over trade related issues too often dis regards these important benefits (Froning,
2000).
With emphasis, the positive effects of an open

Research Paper On Millet
I did my artist on Jean François Millet. Millet was born in a farming community called the
village of Gruchy, in GrГ©ville Hague, Normandy. Jean lived a long life; his birthday was
October 4, 1814 and died January 20, 1875 (age 60). At the time when Jean was alive, his work
was considered a political advertisement. Many thought he was trying to persuade others to one
political side through his artwork. People did not approve of his artwork and therefore rejected it.
We now know that in reality, he was trying to bring light to peasants. His style of art was unique
and he had a special talent for giving his figures a unique sense of dignity and majesty.
His style of art he created was painting. Painting is defined as the process or art of ... Show more

The dimensions of the paintings are 7 1/4 by 11 1/4 in. (18.4 by 28.5 cm). The medium of the
drawing is not identified, but from speculation I assume that he used either charcoal or pencil.
The subject matter of this drawing is newly shorn young lambs. This art piece was in preparation
for a painting that was going to be called the Salon of 1853. One of the elements of art he used
was curved lines, straight lines, and thin lines. These elements are used in many different ways.
The first way element used was a curved line on the sheep s body. The second element, a straight
line, was used for various parts of the painting. The last element was used for details on the
sheep and the grass. These elements created texture and detail. The viewer s eye is mostly
drawn to the sheep because there is only two other things in the drawing. The artist is portraying
a laid back and relaxed mood. Since the sheep are newborn, they look very dazed and lost but
also very calm. In all, my feeling on this artist is overall very good. His painting are deep and
bring out the darker parts of the world and sheds some light on them. I view him this way
because of the way he says things. My favorite quote from Jean is, I want to put strongly and
completely all that is necessary, for things weakly said might as well not be said at all, (Jean
Francois Millet). This is such a strong statement that it couldn t be said any better.

Using the Plays “Much Ado About Nothing” and “the

Using the plays Much Ado About Nothing and The Rover , discuss and compare each play s
treatment of women.
The Renaissance comedy, Much Ado About Nothing , written by Shakespeare in 1600 during the
Elizabethan era, addresses male inconstancy and female persecution; how women are controlled by
the prevailing patriarchal system. Hero, the conventional heroine, is a shrinking violet , who suffers
character assassination through male actions. The Rover , written in 1677 for the Restoration
society of Charles II where men were hedonistic, uncommitted and brimming with bravado, also
explores gender conflicts. However playwright, Aphra Behn, in this Restoration comedy, critically

Hypocritically he assumes the role of victim, accusing her of leaving a cob web door to catch flies
. However Behn offers the audience a scintilla of justification from this attempted rape, Wilmore
blaming the cursed sack he has drunken which might excuse him from the Restoration crowd, if not
later audiences.
Worse is to come in 4/2 when the masked Florinda hides in Blunt s lodgings from her brother.
While Wilmore is afforded drunken stupor as an excuse, Blunt s actions are motivated by
misogynistic revenge. Blunt s hatred for Lucetta the prostitute turns Florinda into an opportunity to
wreak his righteous revenge on womankind . Frederick s involvement also implicates the cavaliers
behaviour as he joins Blunt. Even Belvile s honourable status is doubted, Frederick referring to him
as a cormorant at whore and bacon . It is unsurprising that 18th century productions censored Blunt
s most vicious imagery to protect public tastes. The atmosphere becomes graver still as Florinda s
brother ironically wins the lottery using the length of their swords; an explicit phallic connotation,
to take Florinda first.
Even the Restoration audience recognises Behn challenging male hypocrisies, by creating a
situation where the patriarchal protector himself is responsible for the loss of female virtue. The
swiftness with which Florinda accepts their apologies I heartily forgive you all provides the males,
especially Blunt, with undeserving

Differences Between Morgenthau And Kant
A school of thought, as defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a point of view held by a
particular group. Schools of thought relating to world politics are theories that have been the center
and cause of countless debates. Two of the most well known and influential schools of thought in
the realm of international politics are realism and liberalism. While the ideas making up both
systems have been around for centuries, each school has been since furthered and analyzed by
international relationsexperts and philosophers. Two notable figures of realism and liberalism are
Hans Morgenthauand Immanuel Kant, respectively, who formed basic principles that became the
center of each school of thought. There are several key differences between Morgenthau and Kant.
Some of these lie in their opposing views on international systems, states as actors in international
affairs, and ethical issues. Others revolve around government systems and the concept of human
nature.
Hans Morgenthau, a philosopher of realist thought, believed individual states to be the most
important actors on the international stage. He argues that states are self interested forces
constantly vying with other states for dominance; that they re vying with them for power. Power
refers to anything that establishes and maintains the control of man over man. States are
consistently consumed with the process of maintaining the power they already have and acquiring
more. In Politics Among Nations, Morgenthau

My Personal Philosophy Of Innovation
Nursing Innovation and Leadership: A Personal Philosophy To embrace the person that you are, in
a time and place where everyone seems to be telling you that you should be everything but the
person that you are, is a daunting but worthwhile challenge. I believe that it is in the acceptance of
our true selves, imperfections and all, that we gain the ability to view others through a lens colored
with compassion and acceptance. It is then that we can become a leader who is self aware and
emotionally competent.
Personal Philosophy of Innovation My personal philosophy of innovation encompasses many ideas.
It is not only thinking outside of the box, but questioning why the box is even necessary. It is about
creating opportunity out of disappointment, being open to different, and unafraid of being
vulnerable. It is about breathing, living, and embodying the change that you want to see in the
world and exploring new paths in achieving that change. Innovation is being courageously defiant
in the face of the universe shouting You can t and replying with a resounding Watch me .
Personal Definition of Innovation I believe that innovation is the process of examining a new and
different method that cause one internally and/or spiritually look at something as you have never
seen it before, and the creation of a new meaning to the way that we relate to and interact with
people, the environment, health, and nursing.

The Many Themes in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio Essay
The Many Themes in Winesburg, Ohio
Winesburg, Ohio is a compilation of short tales written by Sherwood Anderson and published as a
whole in 1919. The short tales formulate the common themes for the novel as follows: isolation and
loneliness, discovery, inhibition, and cultural failure.
In order to examine these themes, Anderson s history must be understood and examined to provide
illumination upon why Anderson came to such beliefs about human life. Sherwood Anderson was
born on September 13, 1876, in Camden, Ohio. In 1884, Anderson and his family moved to the
small town of Clyde, Ohio. Clyde, Ohio, is the model for the town of Winesburg. Anderson hated
his father because of the lack of love shown to his mother and ... Show more content on

At the end of the story Adventure, Anderson writes began trying to force herself to face bravely
the fact that many people must live and die alone, even in Winesburg (Anderson, Sherwood). The
themes of loneliness and isolation are expressed by describing the characters as grotesques. The
grotesques are the people who have become obsessed with an idea or mannerism, such that, they
have lost contact with their fellow Man. Anderson sets the course for the theme of isolation in the
first three chapters, excluding The Book of the Grotesque.
The first chapter is called Hands and involves the sad story of Wing Biddlebaum. Because
Biddlebaum is accused of having molested students that he taught, his hands embody the shame
that he carries. Fearing that the presence of his hands will be misinterpreted, Biddlebaum hides his
expressive hands. By creating the symbol of hands in this chapter, Anderson creates an effective
symbol to express the theme of isolation in the novel. Because a person s physical hands are used
to communicate feeling, Hands is a tale about one of the sources of isolation, the inability to
communicate feeling.
Paper Pills is the second chapter of the novel and deals with another cause of isolation, the inability
to communicate thought. Because Doctor Reefy is afraid of communicating directly to another
person, he writes his thoughts on little pieces of paper to prevent his

Studies
Reflecting on several previous studies that have been carried out to compare the performance of
the two NIDS, indicated Snort to be efficient in various issues. For instance, the comparison of
Snort version 2.8.5.2 to Suricata version 1.0.2 was a clear indication of the strength of each system

created using the Metaspoilt framework. The results characterized Snort being efficient with system
properties as compared to Suricata, but when functioning in a multi CPU setting Suricata was extra
efficient as a result of fewer false negatives

The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl
The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters
are from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them
out of their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito.
One day Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment,
so they go and try to find a pearlto then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent,
shiny, big, and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the
pearl buyers will buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I
think what drives Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being
cheated with the value of the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To
begin, what drives Kino is fear of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the
pearl to supply all the things he desires. First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is
worth more than what the pearl buyers are willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can
give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he
said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is
worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct amount of money for the pearl. Following,
Kino

  • 2. No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch Essay examples Dog Food Fried, Flipped and Devoured Eating dog food may not be seen as the easiest thing to stomach because the smell, texture and by products found within the mixture are thought of as awful and revolting. In Ann Hodgman s No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch , although the title may suggest otherwise, different types of dogfood are discussed. In this essay, Hodgman aims to inform her readers about the inequality in different types of dog food, as well as to entertain and amuse. Hodgman is writing to a broad audience, one of dog lovers and owners, as well as those that may be curious as to what is really in dog food, or more generally the packaging and processing of mass produced food of any kind. Language, description and humor are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the author discusses a lite dog food and how the most positive part of the meal was that it didn t make her fat (313). There is also a small amount of irony in the essay through the idea of a taste testing going on, although it is not the pleasant experience of its connotation. The effect of this hilarity creates a stronger contrast between the subject of the essay and comedic tone of the writer. In using the different techniques of language, description and humor, the author effectively creates a bond with the reader, while at the same time informing and entertaining. At the core of this essay, Hodgman is looking at how we view not only our dog s processed and packaged food, but ours as well. Implied in the text are the questions regarding how well we take care of our pets and ourselves. I think that the largest unknown within the essay is the question of how she made it through the smell, texture and appearance of all this dog food. This leaves us being reminded that if you re determined, there will be a way to make it through the mock bone marrows and the Butcher s Blends and perhaps find a little bit more in food, and in life, than oily nuggets and canned by products. • 3. Techniques Used In The Film Full Metal Jacket You climb like old people fuck Private Pyle , Well any fucking time sweetheart! These two quotes from the movie Full Metal Jacket are common techniques that most directors of war genre films use to either grasp the attention of the audience or emphasize the scrounginess of war. War in many cases takes the perception of life out of many soldiers. When soldiers return home, they are desensitized to killing. Wargenre films use fast cutting scenes, captivating descriptions of scenery , and aggressive degrading language to promote the negative connotations of war. Like many war films, fury doesn t stray far from the norm. The director uses aggressive and vulgar language, combined with fast cutting and high paced shooting scenes, to convey many messages to us the viewer. In one specific scene where the ... He uses long strung sentences to give us a perfect picture of what is going on at one specific moment. In one of the opening chapters the narrator expands on one idea about the topography and landscape, The war tried to kill us in the spring. As grass greened the plains of Nineveh and the weather warmed, we patrolled the low slung hills beyond the cities and towns. We moved over them and through the tall grass on faith, kneading paths into the windswept growth like pioneers. While we slept, the war rubbed its thousand ribs against the ground in prayer. • 4. Mind Map Analysis I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which shows the strength of the word Terrorism and the problems that have occurred because of it. It was interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of people mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While there were many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the mind map. One of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is friends with many of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also works at the school, and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that she was there. This was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting I could not imagine the stress and fear that my peer must have endured. I also saw a bubble with KKK written inside of it. This stood out to me because I go to school in Charlottesville, which is now famously known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bubble that stood out to me was Middle East. While many people may think of the Middle East when the word terrorism is in mind, it puts a negative connotation on the entire region. This goes for other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the words Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going back to the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I had already completed one year of school and had an overall positive opinion of the city. The current reputation is racist and violent; while I don t agree with this, it has made me question where I am, if I am safe, and what kind of people are around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mexican Culture Research Paper What makes a culture distinctive? What shapes a culture s development throughout history? For many cultures, one of the main answers is religion. Religion has, for millennia, formed the backbone of most societies, and it often shapes people s identity. Mexico is no different. The connection of religion and culturein Mexico is made clear through its current demographics, its history, and its festivals. Religion is a part of most people s lives in Mexico. In the 2010 census, approximately 90% of the population claimed to be at least nominally religious: 82.7% of the population identified as Roman Catholic, with another 9% claiming an affiliation with another religion ( Mexico, n.d.). The practice of Catholicism in the country varies greatly, from groups that follow a rigid interpretation of Catholic doctrine to indigenous groups who practice syncretistic religions, or the mixing of Catholic practices with traditional, indigenous rituals. Focussing on the development from 2011 on, the first half of 2011 is marked of economic recovery, supported by market regulations like Basel III and the OeNB supplying large amounts of long term liquidity, leading to a decreasing unemployment rate. In the second half of the year geopolitical tensions like an earthquake in Japan, growth in debt in several Euro countries, tensions in the bond and interbank market led to uncertainty in the global financial markets which negatively influenced the Austrian labour market pushing the unemployment rate on a level of 4.3%. 2012 is considered to be a year of economic slowdown. Decreasing exports, less domestic investments and consumption led to less demand for la bour and increased the unemployment rate from 4.0% to 5.0%. In 2013 a slight increase of the Austrian economy can be spotted inter alia in increasing domestic consumption. On the other hand more foreign workers are entering the Austrian labour market due to worse situations in their home countries, making the unemployment rate rise to 5.6%. • 8. Relationship Between Society And One s Own Personhood According to Harry G. Frankfurt s writings, personhood is bound by one s wills and desires, and the various ways these influence our actions. His philosophy focuses primarily on the mind and how it guides out wills. Frankfurt, for example, does not allow for any external influences on personal identity, nor does he allow the mind s interpretation of the body, resulting in a narrow view on one s personhood. Susan J. Brison offers an alternative. Her piece, Outliving Oneself: Trauma, Memory, and Personal Identity, describes the ways our relationships with both our body and society influence our personhood. Along with Brison, ethicist J. S. Swindell s piece, Facial Allograft Transplantation, Personal Identity, and Subjectivity, describes the effect facial allograft surgeries have on the recipients. In this paper, I will examine the relationship between society and one s own personhood, and argue that it is important to realize how both society and the mind s relationship with the body influences one s self perceptions and personhood. Frankfurt s theories on personhood primarily revolve around the relationship the mind establishes with wills and desires, as well as the preferential treatment some wills receive over others, called second order volitions. He rejects the belief that a personis an entity with both mental and physical properties, as this definition would allow for many non human animals to be considered persons (Frankfurt 5). To Frankfurt, personhood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay Elizabeth 1 To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to religious uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring peace for all the people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity proclaimed by Elizabeth I in 1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of Parliament, have in part created the religious freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that this religious uniformity would shape a lot of things that would come to pass later on in life, as Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that would shape religion and the beliefs on how to worship that still go on this this current day. One of The act of Supremacy and the act of uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s independence from Rome, while the act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made church attendance on Sundays and holy days something that was obligatory. This very act would go on to shape some of the laws, and a lot of the thinking behind the way things are still done to this very day. Some of the laws are influence by the act of uniformity... In this time period different religious beliefs were being questioned and shaped, and the act of uniformity was designed to create order so that all the different religious groups could follow a unified religious belief. • 11. Why Software Should Be Free By Richard Stallman Vincent Jonany Term Paper INFO 450 06/06/15 In the paper Why Software Should Be Free written by Richard Stallman, he argued that developers should develop free software. In the paper, Stallman justified his belief of the free software movement. Stallman believes that free software can be defined with the four essential freedoms: the freedom to run the program however the users like, the freedom to modify the source code so that it does different computing, the freedom to distribute copies of the program, and the freedom to distribute the modified copies to others. In his justifications of his stand on free software, he argues that people will still have the initiative to develop software even though they know that it will be freely distributed. Hence, Stallman believes that one of the main goals for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stallman first reminded the readers that institutions do not have to be software houses to be able to pay programmers. Stallman then brought out his own experience of making a living for six years as a free software developer. Stallman talked about his experience of him being hired from other institutions to make improvements for free software. • 12. The Causes And Consequences Of Grade Inflation Grade inflation has been a widespread issue that has been affecting many institutions. It may be in a way where the instructor raises a students grade by one letter, or by raising a failing grade to a passing grade. Many colleges and universities to this day use the typical letter grading system which is A,B,C,D,F. Some universities, on the other hand feel that this grading system is under estimating students intelligence and abilities. Also, many universities are suffering from the problem of grades that are expanding. Professors and teachers who over evaluate the quality of the students work or assignment and consequently assign a gradehigher than what the student deserves mainly cause the problem. Causes that might cause grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives, target of getting an A grade and avoiding an F and students being in competition with their classmates. One of the causes of grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives or high expectations from parents to their children. Many parents put pressure on their children to get good grades. Essay On Flag Desecration The flag of the United States of America isn t only just a piece of cloth, it is a symbol of hope and freedom that represents our entire nation and the brave men and women who serve to protect it. As American citizens, we must protect our flag from any harm. I love my flag, and the country that it represents, but I know as much as anyone that America isn t perfect. That is why if I believe that something is wrong or needs to be changed in our country, then I can speak up, I can protest, I can make my elected officials hear my voice and listen to what I have to say. It is my constitutional right and a blessing to do so; but using the flag as a torch is a form of protest that should be illegal, and that I will not tolerate. It is our duty as American citizens to protect the flag and remind everyone of the freedoms and liberties that it represents. The American Flag is a symbol of hope and freedom in our country. Aquinas first way is that nothing can move itself without a mover, in other words, in order for an object to move it must have a mover. I concur with Aquinas assertion, it makes logical sense on the grounds that everything we do necessitates a mover. An illustration would be a car, in order for a car to move one must drive the car for it to move. Aquinas concludes that there must be a primary mover (God) that is not itself moved. These memories serve for a very special purpose as the things you do in life shapes you into the person you will become. Today, many authors and poets make use of their memories and experiences in their work as a way to reflect back on their lives, raise awareness, or just simply to tell a story. As a prominent contributor to the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes was an inspirational poet who highlighted many aspects of the urban life of African Americans through reflections of his own life and experiences. He also takes into account with the existing racism at this time that was against him and anyone of color. By incorporating his life into his work, it created a voice for those who were not able to speak up and as a result, life met art (The Harlem Project). Throughout his works, especially his poetry, Hughes also draws inspiration from music. He describes the blues as sad funny songs too sad to be funny and too funny to be sad as the songs hold laughter and pain, hunger and heartache (Poetry Criticism). This point of view is noticeably reflected onto his poems when some stanzas are in the form of the typical blues song (Poetry Criticism). In other words, the stanza had two nearly identical lines followed by a third that contrasts the first two and this is seen in Same in Blues where he uses the repetition of the word baby in the first two lines. In his poetry, Hughes captures the voices, experience, emotions and spirit of the African Americans during this time. His poems have also been influenced by the Afro American life essays written by W.E.B. DuBois and the black vernacular (DiYanni p.700 705). • 32. Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a hilarious degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative. Comedians that engage in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any other means. Satire disarms the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their criticisms, and is an especially powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver uses the satirical news format as a means to address the ridiculousness of beauty pageants as it continues to objectify women in a climate in which social constructs are shifting towards feminist equality and persuasion of the audience to agree with the commentary. Considering the context of the Miss America Pageant reflection by John Oliver in his satirical news program, his goal is to select a particular topic to deconstruct and discuss the inadequacies with a humoristic flair. The social climate from the early 20th Century introduction of the Miss America Pageant to current day is vastly different, and while the pageant evolved over the last 90 plus years, the basic tenets remain. Today s woman is considered to be independent, strong, intelligent and the physical appearance is but a side note. • 39. A Questionnaire on the American Samoan Society In what ways was the traditional leadership of Samoan villages different from typical American leadership? On the political level in the United States, most leaders are elected directly or appointed to office by politicians, although they often come from very wealthy and privileged backgrounds and have their political careers financed by various special interests. Of course, much of the real leadership in the country is based on wealth and income, or control of large corporations, bureaucracies and financial institutions. Samoa has a matai or chief system that traditionally controlled the social, political and economic order. Those in the lower castes were expected to show respect and deference to their elders and hereditary rulers, rather than the more modern (post French Revolution) concept of equal citizenship for all. Chiefs controlled all exchanges and the distribution of wealth and land, which is also quite different from the capitalistic individualism that lies at the core of modern American culture, and naturally the U.S. colonizers attempted to undermine this traditional system. How did the traditional system of chiefly power reinforce the close knit social system of village life? The trend of challenge to Royal policies and authority in Early Stuart England (1603 49) was significant because it resulted in Civil War and the overthrow of monarchical government. This trend was influenced by political, social and economic forces. The political forces were mainly over the debate between absolutism and constitutionalism. Social forces involved a conflict within the Church of England between Arminianism/Laudianism and Puritanism. Underlying the political and social forces were economic forces which have been subject to considerable debate among historians. Elizabeth died in 1603 and she was succeeded by her Protestant relative, King James VI of Scotland. Though her reign had seen problems over religion, the 1559 Religious Settlement remained intact and England had become more influenced on the world scene. English had become the leading Protestant power in Europe. James I became the King of England in 1603. Sellers and Buyers from separate economies may deliberately trade without the domestic government applying quotas, tariffs, prohibitions, or subsidies on their goods and services. With emphasis, free tradeis the opposite of economic isolationism or trade protectionism. Not to mention, governments with free trade agreements (FTAs) do not necessarily disregard all control of taxation of exports and imports. In modern international trade, hardly any so called FTAs fit the textbook definition of free trade (Investopedia, 2017). Correspondingly, International trade is the foundation upon which American prosperity rests. Free trade policies have built a level of competition in today s open market that engen ders continual modernization and leads to better paying jobs, better products, new markets, and increased savings and investment. Schools of thought relating to world politics are theories that have been the center and cause of countless debates. Two of the most well known and influential schools of thought in the realm of international politics are realism and liberalism. While the ideas making up both systems have been around for centuries, each school has been since furthered and analyzed by international relationsexperts and philosophers. Two notable figures of realism and liberalism are Hans Morgenthauand Immanuel Kant, respectively, who formed basic principles that became the center of each school of thought. There are several key differences between Morgenthau and Kant. Some of these lie in their opposing views on international systems, states as actors in international affairs, and ethical issues. Others revolve around government systems and the concept of human nature. Hans Morgenthau, a philosopher of realist thought, believed individual states to be the most important actors on the international stage. He argues that states are self interested forces constantly vying with other states for dominance; that they re vying with them for power. • 52. Analysis Of Snort The two IDS uses different rulesets and thus a key decision need to be made when using one of them. Emerging Threat (ET) is an open source community that was originally created as sustenance to an open Snort rule set. However, the group produces ruleset that is compatible with both Snort and Suricata currently. The ET rulesets have the capability of producing a professional ruleset (ET Pro). In professional ruleset, each item contains a rule portion that is enhanced for Snort, a rule portion that is enhanced for Suricata and an aware portion that is shared by both engines. The certified rule set for Snort is created by the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team (VRT) (Sikorski Honig, 2012). The rules are sold immediately after release... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Mat Olney reflected on the benefit of multi thread and argued based on internal testing of Snort against Suricata with rules loaded. Suricata runs at 200 MB/Sec while Snort with rules hit 894 MB/Sec with no drops. Studies Reflecting on several previous studies that have been carried out to compare the performance of the two NIDS, indicated Snort to be efficient in various issues. For instance, the comparison of Snort version 2.8.5.2 to Suricata version 1.0.2 was a clear indication of the strength of each system engine when subjected to the protection of the network. Their testbed incorporated the Ubuntu 10.04 which is a Virtual device accommodated on a VMWare Terminal 6.5 virtual setting operating on a 2.8GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon CPU that had a 3GB RAM. The research was examining the quickness of detection and the accurateness of under changing rates of network and CPU usage (Albin, 2011). The control of the CPU used the Cpulimit with Tepreplay controlling the network bandwidth. The alert signals was accomplished by introducing six unknown malware that was created using the Metaspoilt framework. The results characterized Snort being efficient with system properties as compared to Suricata, but when functioning in a multi CPU setting Suricata was extra efficient as a result of fewer false negatives ... • 53. The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters are from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them out of their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito. One day Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment, so they go and try to find a pearlto then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent, shiny, big, and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the pearl buyers will buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I think what drives Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being cheated with the value of the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To begin, what drives Kino is fear of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the pearl to supply all the things he desires. First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is worth more than what the pearl buyers are willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct amount of money for the pearl. Following, Kino ...
