Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having been based in
the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in border security and checkpoints.
In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine.
In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US
Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She backs these
arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few statistical evidence. As a
result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but weak when it comes to logos and ethos.

polycarbonate plastic containers. The bottles specifically chosen for testing were those that were used
by children. The migration of BPA occurs in polycarbonate plastics (i.e. water bottles and baby
bottles). Toxicology reports show society the importance of evaluating these products before purchase
and consumption as a consumer. For a particular experiment, researchers used Daphnia Magna, a
small flea that cleans and absorbs particles that infect the solution they are placed in, and bred them in
the polycarbonate containers. A control group was created using water bottles without the infection of
these creatures. A GC MS machine to detect the level of BPA released by each polycarbonate plastic
then evaluated the water. An increase in the reproduction of BPA was detected when the Daphnia
Magna were bred inside the container. Although these organisms effected the leaching of Bisphenol A,
the GC MS was able to detect, through the control group, that BPA is released without DM. An Eco

evolving and maturing as we encounter different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political
socialization include our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and
beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment contributes to
our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the fundamentals of American
government and politics, and lastly the media continuously shapes our view of the government. All
three of these agents, are crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many

This is a rhetorical analysis of Lieutenant General George S. Patton s Speech to the Third United
States Army. It was a very successful speech given to the troops of the United States Third Army in
1944 before the invasion of France. After examining the genre, purpose of this speech, General Patton
s audience, and how General Patton used ethos, logos, and pathos we can see why this iconic speech
was so successful.
First we will take a look at the genre of this piece. The genre is very important in literature because
they are like guidelines that outline what your piece should have in it. For example if someone wanted

across. You would not for instance look at a series of papers under the Lab Report genre for ideas on
