Political Party Essay
Democratic Party
2. Republican Party
3. Libertarian Party
4. Green Party
5. Constitution Party
1. Democratic Party: In the 1890s this party has favored the progressive and liberal political positions,
and that they act on the Congress, in which means that they act on the debt ceiling. It is also one of the
two major contemporary political parties that here in the United States.
2. Republican Part: There are many ideas, conservatism, economic liberalism, fiscal conservatism, and
social conservatism.

conservatives, abortion, and non interventionist foreign policy.

I also like how they act on the Congress. I don t that there is a habit of short termism because the
leaders/governments are generally elected to serve a certain amount of time and there are many
concerns about getting re elected. This all means that some social, environmental, and economic
problems require longer term solutions.
Republican
I like that there are many different parts of the party. I like that the party has many ideas,
conservatism, economic liberalism, fiscal conservatism, and social conservatism. What I don t like is
that there is a long lasting dominance of democratic and Republican parties. Also, I don t like that the
3rd parties tend to be expressions of discontent with two major parties. Not to mention, the third
parties have a little chance, and there are fears of majority tyranny.
Libertarian
I like that it gives us individual freedom, social liberals, economic conservatives, and non
interventionist foreign policy. I don t like the abortion that this party has because (to me) abortion is
just like murder and I don t agree with it, so that is the only thing that I don t really like.

Healthcare Disparity Among The Hispanics
Healthcare Disparity among the Hispanics
Overview of the Population The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (2015) provided an overview of
the Hispanic population, in which they reported the Office of Management and Budget s (OMB)
categorization of the population. Specifically, OMB defines Hispanics as a population which
comprises of Cubans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, South and Central Americans as well as people from
other Spanish cultures (CDC, 2015). According to a report compiled by the CNN Library (2015),
Hispanics are the largest minority group in the United States. In fact, the size of the Hispanic group in
the United States is only second to the size of the Hispanic group in Mexico. The report further
explained that there were approximately 54 million Hispanic people in the United States by 2013. The
number showed a 2.1% increase in the Hispanic population between 2012 and 2013 (CNN Library,
2015). The total Hispanic population in 2013 constituted about 17% of the United States total
population. Gonzalez Barrera and Lopez (2013) inferred that people of Mexican origin constituted the
largest number of Hispanics in the United States. They maintained that there were approximately 33.7
million Hispanics from Mexico in the United States by 2012 (Gonzalez Barrera Lopez, 2013). The
Mexican Hispanics population is represented by people who are born in the United States and
immigrants from Mexico.

The Decepticon
If you have not heard of Transformers, then you have been living under a rock. Transformers:
Revenge of The Fallen had brought in $200 million the first week it came out. You may be wondering
who is the director behind this extraordinary movie? The answer to that is Michael Bay, and he has
directed many outstanding movies. With Transformers it has now been 2 years since the Autobots
have save the Earth from the Decepticons, they are now working with the military to protect the earth.
While they are doing that Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is now off to college and he is trying to live a
normal college student life. An older Decepticon name The Fallen is up to no good and wants revenge.
Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) learn the history of the Transformers and with that
knowledge they help the Autobots defeat the Decepticons again. With seeing all of The Transformer
movies Michael Bay uses a lot of ethos, and pathos with making his movies exciting to see.
The primary audience of this movie would be the military. Optimus Prime and his Autobot friends
explain to the people in the military what is going on so they can be prepared for when The Fallen and
his Decepticons come. The Autobots and the military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Watching the movie over again and breaking it down bits by pieces I am now more aware of the
rhetorical analysis that is in the movie. Transformers is definitely a draining movie, so many emotions
run through your body it is impossible to control them when watching the film. Lastly the credibility
is phenomenal in this movie, because Michael Bay did not just give living things trust but he also gave
it to the robots. The Autobots gain the militaries trust and that allows them to believe in each other. It
is rare for you to see robots and humans standing hand to hand fighting to protect the

How Did Washington s Farewell Address Dbq
At the end of his second presidential administration, after forty five years serving America, President
Washington did not want to leave without imparting some final guidance and wisdom. To do so,
Washington, working from drafts written by James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote a letter to
the American people titled The Address of Gen. Washington to the People of America, on his
Declining the Presidency of the United States and more popularly known as Washington s Farewell
Address.
In his Farewell Address, President Washington first expressed his zeal for America and his reasons for
declining a third term as President. Immediately following these introductory comments, however,
Washington, driven by concern for the welfare of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first indispensable supports that Washington addressed are religion and morality. Where is the
security for property, for reputation, for life, Washington asked, if the sense of religious obligation
desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice? And let us with
caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Washington went so
far as to say that a person cannot claim to be a patriot if he should try to subvert religion and morality.
[R]eason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of
religious principle. ... [M]orality is a necessary spring of popular government. ... Who, that is a sincere
friend to it, can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?
Following his discussion of religion and morality, Washington briefly touched upon a very important
source of strength and security : public credit. Washington warned against incurring too much debt,
but also warned that sometimes a smaller expenditure to prepare for danger prevents a much larger
expenditure

Natural Science Vs Religion
Natural science and religion are two areas of knowledge that perceive knowledge using ways of
knowing differently to pursue its knowledge, an example of that would be Charles Darwin and his
theory of natural selection and evolution. In natural science, the theory of natural selection is derived
from studying the common features in the bone structure of vertebrate limbs despite its varied use.
Therefore, using deductive reasoning, they established the evolution theory which states that humans
evolved from apes due to the fact that human and apes have similar features and that human has
evolved due to adaptation and survival of genes. However, religion, using not only intuition and
emotions but also reason disagrees with the claim of evolution.

Persuasion Is The Act Of Changing Individuals
Persuasion is the act of changing individuals attitudes or behaviours; this is all around us in everyday
life especially in the media. Persuasion has shown to be effective however there are some attempts
that fail, in this essay I will explain why persuasion doesn t always work. The factors I will look at are
reactance, counterarguing, avoidance, forewarning and attitude inoculation.
Reactance theory can explain why some persuasion attempts fail. This suggests that a persistent
attempt to persuade can actually backfire, because the individual feels that the persuasive message is
directly threatening their personal freedom. This threat to their personal freedom will often produce a
defiant response which is called the boomerang effect. The individual reacts against the intended
message and takes on a totally different attitude because they become irritated and their reaction is to
go against the persuader, especially if the individual has strong pre existing attitudes. There is research
to support this by Rex A. Wright, Virginia Wadley, Maria Danner, and Priscilla Phillips. A sample of
21 female undergraduates were asked to make an independent assessment of the attractiveness of 2
men. In the experiment, they were or were not given an opinion statement that threatened their
freedom, in conditions of either no pressure, mild pressure or high pressure. The results found that
when participants freedom was not restricted, then there was a persuasion effect. However, when the

Introduction Extreme sports (also called action sport and adventure sport) are a media term for certain
activities perceived as having a high level of inherent danger. These activities often involve speed,
height, high level of physical exertion, highly specialized gear or spectacular stunts. At present date,
there are no careful studies or statistics of deaths to separate activities with low or normal level of
danger from those with high level of danger. While use of the term extreme sport has spread far and
wide to describe a multitude of different activities, exactly which sports are considered extreme is
debatable. There are however several characteristics common to most extreme sports. Extreme sports

Winter X Games have been held at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, and they will continue to

sponsors and star studded athletes. However, their marketing ideas add to that because of the number
of fans who attend the actual events. As the Journal of Sport Management (2006) explains, Generation
X and Generation Y are the two most highly valued by marketers. This creates a broad approach on
marketing towards that certain demographic, which is why the Winter X Games marketing and
economic outlook is so out of the box . The Winter X Games inaugural year, 1997, was televised to

Advantages Of Direct Democracy
Direct Democracy There is a lot of controversy over which government is the best, and honestly I don
t think there really is a best form of government but I believe there that some are better than others.
Direct Democracy definitely has its flaws, it is the best option open to us at this time. It gives the
people the power to get what they want. America is already a form of Democracy, it s a Representative
Democracy. So direct Democracy is not too far fetched.
Direct democracy, also known as pure democracy, is where the people vote to on or form consensus
on policy initiatives directly. The word democracy literally means rule by the people . The United
States today is a representative democracy. Which is a democracy in which the people ... Show more

From 1995 to 2005 swiss citizens voted over 30 different times, while the french citizens only voted
twice. In direct democracies the citizens have most of the power.
We want rights, freedom, and equality. But we also need some sort of structure. As people we need a
say in how we live our lives but we cannot just do as we please. We can t have the government gaining
too much power but we need to still be controlled. Harmony in all aspects is what we are sought after,
we want and need a balance. Direct democracy is a way to get citizens involved and united. It helps
keep the government transparent, you cannot make promises to the people and then not keep them
because you run the risk of the people removing you from power. It holds everyone accountable, the
officials to do what they promised and to fix the problems within society and the people to keep their
government going in the right direction. The individual is foolish, the species is wise. (Burke).
Together we are better. There are also some pros to having a direct democracy, when the people want
to see change, they appeal and they vote. Which would truly be a government for the people, by the
people , protecting our interests. There is a checks and balances system that makes sure the power gets
distributed. Democracy also promotes equality, allows for change, doesn t put too much power in the

The Classical Types Of Love
Love is a special emotion that most individuals strives for. Part of a human s nature is to love and long
for another individual. This feeling has existed since the beginning and will continue to exist until the
end. The term love, however, is very broad. To understand more easily what the term means, the
Ancient Greeks came up with three terms to symbolize the three main types of love. The three
classical types of love are very important to understand, as they will continue to exist until the world
ends. The selected poems read reflect three classical types of love.
One type of love that is present in the selected poems is agape love. Agape love is an unconditional
love that is all about sacrifice. Agape love in the highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker in this poem shows the highest form of agape love by offering the sacrifice of his life to
defend his country, to which he honors all. Another type of love that is important within the selected
poems is storge love. Storge love is a type of love between family and friends. Two examples of this
kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each
other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or
something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also
says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes,
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8)
Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to
suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. Shakespeare makes it very clear that storge
love is very passionate, serious, and not to be taken lightly. As written in this poem, storge love is
unconditional

The proposed bill, Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act of 2013, is the thoughtful way to

six years after the Great Recession, there are approximately 8 million people unemployed and unable

foreign exchange markets gives China rapid growth. Yuan increasing becomes more important in as
the means of exchange. For instance, in 2011 Japan and China, the second and third largest world
economies, came up with plans to promote the direct exchange of their currencies . They want to by
pass the need to use dollar . Moreover, this becomes the trend for the economies around the world to
do currency swap agreements. They agreements would lead to the end of Dollar Hegemony and the
start of new international financial architecture . (Yu 2013) United States should wait until China takes
the action to devalue yuan by itself which will happen in the near future judging

Big Pharma Research Paper
Big Pharma: An Unethical Reputation The Pharmaceutical industry has been in the spotlight for
decades due to the fact that they have a reputation for being unethical in its marketing strategies. In
The Washington Post Shannon Brownlee (2008) states, We try never to forget that medicine is for the
people. It is not for the profits. The profits follow. This honorable statement is completely lost in today
s world of pharmaceutical marketing tactics. These tactics are often deceptive and biased. Big Pharma
consistently forgets their moral purpose and focuses primarily on the almighty dollar. Big Pharma is

Big Pharma has not had much say whether or not their ethics code would change. The pharmaceutical
industry is getting a major overhaul of their sales and marketing strategies. The International
Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA), started their changes by adding
into their code of ethics and by vowing to publicize all names of companies that wrongfully market
their products. According to an article in Medicine, Health Care, and Philosophy, Badcott (2013)
states, Under the international group s newly revised code of ethics, pharmaceutical representatives
cannot lavish expensive gifts on doctors to influence prescribing practices. Still permitted are lesser
gifts such as pens or stethescopes. In order for a code of ethics to be effective there must be
repercussions when the rules are broken. This seems to be the main issue that Big Pharma is having
trouble with. They made the change in policy, but who is enforcing it? An ethical code is not useful if
they are not effectively implemented and communicated. Badcott (2014) goes on to say, While
PhRMA has no rule to punish violators, the IFPMA pledges to immediately post information about
incidents including the name of the company involved on its Web site. While public shaming is a step
in the right direction for holding the industry accountable, is it enough to make a difference? The

Red Cat Research Paper
The coat of the domestic cat is very diverse, considering all the patterns and colors that a cat can have.
From the hairless sphinx to the rough and tumble calico, genetics play a large part in determining a cat
s coat length, color, and feel. Melanin seems to play an influential role in the makings of the color of a
cat coat because it is what causes the color of hair and eyes.
The coat of a female cat is more likely to be diverse because they have two X chromosomes. The male
only has one X chromosome, which makes some of the combinations for coats, like calico or
tortoiseshell, almost impossible to occur. The Red gene (O) is carried on the X chromosome; for this
reason it is sex linked. Males normally only have one X chromosome and so if a male carries the Red
gene at all, he will be Red. Females have two X chromosomes; if both X chromosomes carry the Red
gene, then the cat will be Red. (Cat Colors FAQ: Cat Color Genetics. Cat Fanciers Chat,
www.fanciers.com/other faqs/color genetics.html) Most cats are not one solid color because of the
genetic diversity.
There are at least eight different loci that are involved in making up a cat s coat color. A combination
of different genotypes and phenotypes often lead to many different cat coat colors. The first coat color
gene in the domestic cat was characterized only recently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cushing s Syndrome Thesis
Cushing s Syndrome
Cushing s syndrome (also known as Cushing s disease) is a disorder of the endocrine system. The
disease is caused by the excess production, or in some cases excess consumption, of the hormone
cortisol. The disease can be caused by tumors on the pituitary gland, adrenal gland complications, and
the usage of corticosteroids. Cushing s syndrome is difficult to diagnose due to its rarity, and there is
no specific test to diagnose it. Symptoms of Cushing s syndrome include obesity, moon face , slow

Social Inequality And Gender Inequality Essay
Social inequality is defined as the set of unequal opportunities for different social classes or statuses
for various individuals within a group or society. It usually refers to people of distinct genders, ages,
and ethnicities. Many American s have experienced some type of social inequality throughout their
lifetime. America s gaping inequality is seen everywhere from education to the workforce. Society
tends to oversee inequality based on race, gender, and other social characteristics . Americans believe
that racial discrimination no longer hinders or affects the advancement of minorities. Racial and ethnic
actions are still being taken towards minorities in education, employment, housing, arrests, and many
other issues of society. Social inequality and discrimination towards minorities is clear in everyday
society. This can be seen by the way inequality is still persistent among the social classes. Among
these classes formed by society, minorities tend to be one of the most affected. This is noticed by the
way education remains segregated, the wage inequality, and the constant cycle of poverty. Many have
used their voice to shine light on these issues, articles and authors such as Social Inequality and
Educational Disadvantage by the Russel Sage Foundation argue the lack of equal assortment of
resources between the rich and the poor is leaving them with the disparity of proper resources, and

Essay on Abuses in the Food Industry
Oppression has always been a concept that humanity has turned its head too. Whether that means a
country is being governed by a dictatorship, an individual race being discriminated against, or
immigrants in a country not being able to find adequate working environment. Even today, big
businesses and individual supervisors are oppressing many people, specifically immigrants in the
lowest jobs available. Books like Fast Food Nation and documentaries like Food Inc. have brought
light to the situation of the grotesque, dangerous, and immoral environment in which many people are
forced to work within the American food system. Situations like the ones discussed in Fast Food
Nation also brings to attention the ethical principles of the labor ... Show more content on

If this worker were to slip his/her hand while slicing the carotid artery, there could be very severe
consequences or injuries for the individual worker, or anybody working close by (Schlosser 236).
Workers are required to preform these mind numbing tasks for 8 hours per day. Because there is little
room for mechanical improvement in processing cattle due to their inconsistency in size and weight,
companies are still reliant on physical labor to process the meat (Schlosser 239). This shows that the
methods that are used today have not changed drastically from the methods that people had to use
nearly half a century ago. Within the factories, most of the workforce consists of illegal immigrants,
whom are unable to find jobs anywhere else. The documentary Food Inc. discusses this problem in a
scene looking at working conditions in slaughterhouses. The documentary articulates that, being a
meat packer in the 1950′s was like being an auto mechanic. It was considered to be a decent job with a
decent wage, benefits, and a pension plan. Now, it is the most dangerous job and employs many
immigrants. The documentary shows a scene where these illegal immigrant workers were recruited by
the meat companies, and shuttled in to work by company owned vans. Because these individuals

Joy Luck Club Mother Daughter Relationships
The mother daughter relationships represented in Amy Tan s novel The Joy Luck Club are influenced
by many existing factors. Lena St. Clair, Ying Ying St. Clair s daughter, is a Chinese American adult
who lives with her forceful husband, Harold. Ying Ying is a Chinese mother who travelled to America
to live a better life after experiencing many hardships in China. Throughout the novel, the relationship
between Lena and Ying Ying is represented as weak and distant. These characters are prevented from
having a healthy relationship because they do not support each other, they possess similar
characteristics, and they are strong. The weak and distant mother daughter relationship is formed by

After Ying Ying narrates her life story, which was filled with mostly pain and sorrow, she states, I will
gather together my past and look. I will see a thing that has already happened. The pain that cut my
spirit loose. I will hold that pain in my hand until it becomes hard and shiny, more clear (252). Ying
Ying wishes to gather together my past and look, indicating that she will not look down upon and
regret her past but only look back and reflect on her past. Ying Ying understands that these events
caused pain which cut my spirit loose ; She is referring to her strong and fierce spirit which makes her
feel as if she is living again. She wishes to hold the pain, rather than toss it away and ignore it. She
wants to study this pain as it turns hard, and shiny, more clear, meaning that she wants to study it until
it becomes understandable. Ying Ying also states, I will use this sharp pain to penetrate my daughter s
tough skin and cut her spirit loose. She will fight me, because this is the nature of two tigers (252).
Ying Ying plans to take advantage of the sharp pain which she experienced throughout her lifetime to
metaphorically cut Lena s tiger spirit loose, which is also known as a strong, fierce, and fighter spirit.
Her tough skin will be hard to penetrate because she is resistant and headstrong, but this only
motivates Ying Ying because

Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Essay
Silsbee enjoyed designing buildings that were inspired by the Victorian movement. Thus, his buildings
were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design. Wright enjoyed designing buildings that
were more progressive with low pitched roofs and an open floor plan. He described his own work as
gracefully picturesque compared to the other brutalities of his time. In 1888, Wright began working
for the Adler and Sullivan firm. The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings for the
inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and soon became an
apprentice in the firm. However, while working at this firm, he did not get along with the other
draftsmen. Sullivan knew of this, took care of Wright, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fallingwater is a house designed by Wright in 1935 that can be found South of Pittsburgh. This
innovative house was built over a waterfall. It was originally a house for businessman Edgar J.
Kaufmann and Liliane Kaufmann, but now it stands as a National Historic Landmark. While it only
took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between
Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and doubted
his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor had, Kaufmann
sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design. Once Wright
heard this, he grew offended and threatened to leave the project if his drawings weren t returned.
Kaufmann gave in to Wright s demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s report within
a stone wall of the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with supporting the West
terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West terrace because there was a
noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the cantilever. Unfortunately for
Kaufmann, Wright discovered this and secretly removed the top course of stones. After about a month,
Kaufmann told Wright what he had done. In return, Wright showed Kaufmann what he himself had
done and how for the past month the cantilever has held

1.1 Explain why working in partnership with others is important for children and young people
Partnership is driven by a desire for collaborative advantage and can offer many positive outcomes,
like benefits for staff and services such as less replication between different service providers. It helps
them see others point of view and it keeps them from being selfish, it helps young people interact with
others to achieve a goal, and it helps them develop socially. It s important to work in partnership with

Design The Earth Sciences Building At The University Of...
In 2009, Perkins + Will was commissioned to design the Earth Sciences Building (ESB) at the
University of British Columbia. ESB is designed to develop the growing relations between the
Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmosphere, the Department of Statistics, the Pacific Institute for the
Mathematical Sciences, the Dean of Science and the Pacific Museum of the Earth, providing
important chances for shared learning and partnership. Placed along Main Mall, the primary north
south pedestrian route on campus, the building provides opportunity to add visual interest to the
pedestrian experience by displaying the research inside the building; to achieve this, the ground floor
is considered the main public space, and is glazed on all sides to maximize visibility into the building.
Situated across the street is the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, which along with the ESB creates a
museum precinct in this area of the campus. Also, to promote the project goal of science on display , a
double height research lab area operates as a backdrop to integrate exhibits from the Pacific Museum
of the Earth. The building contains faculty and staff offices for each department, research laboratories,
three lecture theatres, and a café. A five storey atrium divides the north and south wings of the
building, providing an organized structure for the departments while simultaneously creating an east
west pedestrian route directly through the building. Unlike the concrete south wing that contains the

Patients With Large Common Bile Duct Stones
This prospective study was performed on 124 patients with large common bile duct stones ( 1 cm)
between August 2014 and August 2016. Our exclusion criteria included: age less than 18 years,
patients with contraindication to ERCP (history of contrast dye anaphylaxis, severe cardiopulmonary
disease, and recent myocardial infarction), acute pancreatitis or cholangitis at the time of the
procedure, previous history of ES, concomitant cholangiocarcinona or stricture, or intrahepatic duct

Patients were randomly assigned to either EPLBD group or ES group after confirming the presence of
large bile duct stones during the initial ERCP. The simple randomization was conducted by means of
random number created in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The endoscopists were blinded before
confirming CBD stones during the initial ERCP. If biliary cannulation failed or precut was done
during the initial ERCP, the patients were excluded.
The medical ethical committee of our medical centers approved the study protocol and all patients
provided written informed consent before entering the study. All patients subjected to complete
assessment including proper history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations (complete blood
count, liver and renal function tests, blood sugar, and serum amylase), and imaging studies

Women Are Controlled And Guided By Patriarchal Male Gaze
Essentially, a woman s place in society s stratification is defined by the outward manifestation of her
person, which is identified first and foremost by her gender. Simone de Beauvoir asserts that women
are characterized as others or as not male . This distinction would not be possible if women were not
recognizable by sight as not male. Due to this, it is relevant to look at film and its associations with
visual representations of the woman and the male gaze. As John Berger recognises men act, women
appear...men look at women...women themselves being looked at . This succinctly defines that the
position of women in patriarchal culture depends on look and elucidates that women exist only in
relation to men. Thus, this essay will explore to what extent women are controlled and guided by the
patriarchal male gaze as is reflected in visual popular culture, in particular, narrative cinema, with
specific reference to Laura Mulvey s essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. In her essay,
Mulvey explores the representation of women in culture, specifically the woman as an icon, displayed
for the gaze and the enjoyment of men and discusses two categories of pleasurable looking: voyeurism
and narcissism. Voyeurism is concerned with deriving pleasure from viewing a distant other, and
projecting one s fantasies onto that person, while narcissism is involved with some form of association
or recognition with one s self in the image of another one is viewing. For Mulvey,

Film As Art And Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue Is The Warmest...
Within my Film Theory essay, the two theories which I will be exploring in depth is Rudolf Arnheim s
essay Film as art and Laura Mulvey s Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema . These two different
theories will be applied in relation to Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013).
Introduction:
In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this
introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. The main
intention that I will explore within my essay is how Mulvey and Arnheim s theories relate in a
contemporary context. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my case
study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often
considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and
audience.
Body of paragraphs:
An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw
similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital within
my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the consideration of the
historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. A thirty two year old
British woman, Laura Mulvey writing in the mid 1970 s a peak point for the movement of second
wave feminism. In contrast with German born Rudolf Arnheim, writing in the early 1930 s in the wake
of sounds introduction to cinema.
The two theories, although from vastly different backgrounds, addressing vastly different issues, align
in consideration of the film I have chosen in my case study Blue is the Warmest Colour. Blue is the
Warmest Colour has been accused by feminists as being a film marketed to women and lesbians made
by men objectifying the women and actresses on screen through the male gaze rather than the female
gaze. The film has also garnered controversy through its sexually explicit scenes. In one scene in
particular, there is a 10 minute sex scene between the protagonist Adele and Emma whereby the two
straight actresses simulated lesbian sex. The actresses since accused the director

Acupuncture, one form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy, has been gradually widely
accepted in the Western society as an alternative treatment for migraine as it is evaluated as more cost
effective and less side effect (Deng et al., 2002).
Acupuncture connotes a set of procedures, which includes anatomical points stimulation on the body
through various techniques. This technique has been studied scientifically and involves using needles
(metallic, solid and thin) to penetrate the skin with stimulation by electrical devices or hands. For
centuries, acupuncture has traditionally been used to treat a number of pain conditions such as

What The Confucian Ideas And Practices Are Essay
In this essay, to make it easier to understand when I begin to address the main problem presented by
the question I will first give a brief outline of what the Confucian ideas and practices are. I will then
do as the question asks and evaluate the critique, I will do this by going on to decide how valid I
believe the critique to be and proposing some responses to it to see how the critique really holds up,
before going on to discuss some alternative critiques and whether I see them to be more valid. So to
begin some context, Confucius was born in 551 B.C.E. as far as the books say, to a class of society
that despite being noble had fell upon hard times. (Yu lan, 1952, P.43) All thinkers during this time the
warring states were looking back to an imagined golden age, when China was a unified empire, the
people were at peace, and people knew and followed the Way or Dao. Most thinkers of this time
looked to achieve this once again. (Yu lan, 1952, p.43) Confucius s main ideas and practices then. To
Confucius the Dao or way, is considered to be nothing more or less than the way a person choices to
live their life. (Cua, Ames, 2003, p.61) The root of Confucius ideas is the idea that there is no
individual or self but that one is one s roles and relationships. For Confucius then the goal of life to
achieve happiness for oneself and the people we believe to make up ourselves via roles and
relationships. (Cua, Ames, 2003, p.61) That is we should focus on bringing

Slavery And Southern Honor Essay examples
Parallels
To southern men, honor was everything. I dictated their standing in society, whether or not they could
own slaves; it basically was a secret caste system. A man held in the highest honor experienced a good
life from a social stance in the south. The honor system used in the south was related to the language
used by southern gentlemen.# Honor and Slavery by Kenneth S. Greenburg attempts to explain the
vernacular and customs used by men in the antebellum south. It would be hard for a person in today s
society to understand the way honor was shown; it would have even been a challenge for men living
in the Northern United States to understand at that time.# As Greenburg states, Since the language of
honor was the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greenberg talks about how John invited a man to dinner, only to forget his invitation later. When the
man showed up for dinner, John had to refuse him, saying Sir I am not at home. # This could have
easily led to a duel because John was obviously lying to his unintended guest. If the man wanted to
accuse John of lying and most likely challenge him to a duel all that he would have had to do was give
him the lie. It was an official way of announcing that another person was without honor because he
had just lied.# Being given a lie may not sound serious to someone today but in the Old South it was a
very serious accusation and it threatened the integrity of a man. Most would have preferred death to
being unmasked and admitting a lie. Jefferson Davis would kill or be killed rather than accept the
affront. # To be unmasked was to have an entire life of lies exposed because it is assumed that most
honorable men have lied throughout their lives. P.T. Barnum is another example of the seriousness of
lying. The south did not care if his Feejee Mermaid was a fake they only cared that P.T. Barnum was
lying to them about it being real.# Often times, lying resulted in a duel. Dueling was considered the
proper way for two gentlemen to settle a disagreement and it also proved their honor.# However
dueling was not always full of hatred and anger.# Often times duelists would exchange gifts and fire
shots in the air, not at

I attended the Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble directed by Alex Parker on Tuesday,
November 10th. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones, trumpets, drums, a piano, and bass. The
concert showcased many individual talents by including solo s or duet s in every song. The program
consisted of seven songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big Dipper by Thad Jones
and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones consisted of a duet by
Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece
was in major. It had a happy feel to it and made you want to get up and dance. It was moderato in
tempo, meaning it was an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a quick crescendo from mezzo
piano, or medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet had the melody and the rest of
the instruments were the background music for most of the piece however, the rest of the ensemble
had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt as if I was in the 1950 s listening to
swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike and brassy. Jones incorporated many accents and
staccato markings throughout the composition. The song had many contrasts with pitches and
dynamics. Most of the crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be directly related to the amount of
instruments being played. If there was just one instrument playing and they started to increase in
volume, the other

experiencing her last connection to the human world where she states I m only half here. I m only half

Estelle s bad faith in this case is represented by her inability to accept not only the fact that since she is
a sum of her actions she is indeed fully wicked but, it is also in her refusal to accept the fact that
although a person may not know what she has done it does not mean that the part of her seen from that

He later is attempting to convince Inez that he is not a coward and states Can one possibly be a
coward when one s deliberately courted danger at every turn? And can one judge a life by a single
action. (No Exit 43). If it were the case that this was the only time Garcin were acting like a coward it
may not be possible to fully judge him based upon one action but, Inez points out that For thirty years
you dreamt you were a hero and condoned a thousand petty lapses. (No Exit 43). Inez is arguing that
Garcin has always been lying to himself and has been dreaming that he was a hero but, has actually
just been self deceiving himself whenever he did something cowardly which she points out by saying
he condoned a thousand petty lapses which is referring to perhaps smaller cowardly acts that he has
done throughout his life that he refused to accept as indicating he was a coward. Then even past that
she states Then a day came when you were up against it, the red light of real danger and you took the
train to Mexico. (No Exit 43) Inez perfectly points out how Garcin has always been acting in bad faith
up until the last actions he ever took. By denying the fact that he is a coward and not the hero he
attempts to paint himself as it reveals that Garcin lived a life full of inauthenticity since he has never
accepted the fact that he is a coward because his actions are that of a coward. Garcin then tries
defending himself one last time against Inez as he argues I died to soon. I wasn t allowed time to to do
my deeds. (No Exit 43) he is attempting to blame the fact that he died too soon as the reason he was
never able to act as the hero he tries to show himself as. This argument is directly counteracted by
existentialism which is pointed out by Inez when she says One always dies too soon... And yet one s
life is complete at that moment... You are your life, and nothing else.

Talisman should investigate about how independent Kurdistan is from the rest of Iraq, if there is any

the Iraqi government. It is as I mentioned an unstable region, so there is a great chance of conflicts.
Talisman should clear out how the shares after oil discovery will be divided, since that they are not

To The Lighthouse Essay
Pause, reflect, and the reader may see at once the opposing yet relative perceptions made between life,
love, marriage and death in Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse. In this novel, Woolf seems to capture
perfectly the very essence of life, while conveying life s significance as communicated to the reader in
light tones of consciousness arranged with the play of visual imagery. That is, each character in the
novel plays an intrinsic role in that the individuality of other characters can be seen only through the
former s psyche. Moreover, every aspect of this novel plays a significant role in its creation. For
instance; the saturation of the present by the past, the atmospheres conjoining personalities and

legacy. It lasted over six centuries, and was the globe s first research center. Her founders were
Alexander the Great and Ptolemy II Soter, but it was organized by Aristotle s student Demetrius of
Phaleron. The library was abundance with books and scholars from all over the world. Even though
the library was confuted and damaged, there are some pieces that have survived like Letter of Aristeas
that where possibly a translation of the Hebrew Bible. The library of Alexandria was an integrated

When Alexander s father had to leave for combat, Alexander at age sixteen show his country he was
intelligent, young nevertheless capable to rule Macedonia. From thereon the legend of the conqueror
and great military genius began. In 331 B.C. Alexander entered Egypt and saved the Egyptians from
the Persian rule that had taken over around two centuries before Alexander s rescue. He was crowned
the pharaoh of Egypt and blessed as the son of Amun. Architects had no chalk for making the lines of
the city, so they used flour instead. Suddenly, an infinite number of birds rose like a great black cloud
from the nearby waters. They swooped down and ate all the flour. The founding of Alexandria began
with an omen.
In 323 B.C. Alexander died, he was possibly poisoned or ill; subsequently he never saw Alexandria
and its precious library. Afterwards his most trusted general Ptolemy II Soter took charge of Egypt and
the project to construct the city waiting to be built. He made it the new capital of Egypt. Ptolemy
wanted every piece there existed in result there were books donated and bought; it even had Aristotle s
books. There was no issue on who had written the book; a law was established that anyone who
entered the port of Alexandria would be search and the library would obtain the books. Geometry

Canadas Brain Drain Issue Essay
Canadas Brain Drain Issue What is a brain drain? It is the emigration of highly educated and skilled
Canadians to the United States. Does Canada suffer from a Brain Drain? This is a question that
economists have been trying to answer for a decade now and have conducted different studies
resulting to different conclusions about this issue. There are some economists that believe that yes
Canada is suffering from a brain drain if not now it will be soon, amongst those economists are Don
DeVortez and Samuel Laryea who prepared a study of C.D howe Institute. They claimed that Brain
Drain is real and is costing Canada Tax Payers millions of dollars. Then on the other side of the debate
we have economists like John Helliwell, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believes in the queen bee theory, that one real talented leader, can create all kinds of enterprise and
wealth said the CEO of a major corporation in Western Canada. If you lose that one person or that
small group of people to places that they would rather be, they re not going to come back and you re
going to lose a tremendous amount of wealth creation He was responding to Helliwell s theory saying
that the flow of migrants from Canada to the United States, whether overall or only among the highly
educated, are less than a quarter as large as those in the 1960 s. The CEO is trying to say that maybe
the flow of migrants are less but we are losing key players and that in the long run it will definitely
hurt our nation. If the talent is moving away from Canada because of better benefits less tax then the
companies will follow the people that drive success and hence the low number of migrants will
eventually add up to millions of dollars of loss, and at this point millions of dollars is definitely a
problem that the government needs to address and fast.
Helliwell argues that over the last 30 years, there has been a steady continuation of the century long
downward trend in the number of Canadian born residents in the United

Tributes For The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a first person point of view story about a sixteen year old
woman named Katniss Everdeen struggling to survive in a future dystopian world. This new nation,
Panem, is viewed as a utopia by residents of the Capitol, but it is instead seen as a harsh war zone by
many of the Capitol s twelve outlying districts. Years ago, the districts attempted a rebellion against
the Capitol, but unfortunately failed, resulting in many deaths and extreme penalties. As punishment
for this war, the Capitol requires one male and one female tribute from each district to participate in
the Hunger Games, an annual event that requires the twenty four tributes to fight to the death until one
tribute remains and is crowned the

A Schenkerian Analysis of Preludio from Bach s Unaccompanied Violin Partita No. 3
A single creative genius lies behind all of Bach s music in all genres...his work exhibits a stylistic
uniformity that transcends the differences between all the genres in which he composed...In short,
Bach s music in all the genres sounds like it is by Bach. Joel Lester
Very few theorists touch upon the topic of motivic and structural coherence in Bach s dance suites.
The keyboard and lute suites deservedly have more published analyses than the string suites
considering there are simply more of them leaving the cello and violin suites pristine and practically
untouched, and unjustifiably so. The most obscure are the violin suites, particularly the ... Show more

The de emphasis of the returning 3 as a passing tone from 4 to 2 lends importance to the incomplete
upper neighbor A, supported by IV. This self contained tonal area stretches over half of the Preludio. A
reprise of an opening passage at the initiation of the A prolongation gestures its independence from its
surrounding, indeed a smaller organism enveloped within the larger animal. This is evident through
the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a
long term goal from the beginning. The first 58 measures properly set the stage for the emergence of
IV. The first step on the path to IV is the movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first
moving to G# (m.39) through F# (m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G#
is employed first in the top voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to
the incoming C# (m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. The C#, in a sense, is a midway stopping point from E major
on its way to A major. A# in measure 53 leads to B, creating yet another third progression G# A# B.
The B is to be read not as V of E but as II of A, unfolding to tonic through two consecutive fifths B E
A [EX.2]. As we shall see, the contour of the bass forecasts what is to come; additionally this prelude
within the Preludio presents the material for further elaboration and development.
Now firmly in A, a memorable passage

Abercrombie And Fitch s High Quality Merchandise
Abercrombie Fitch
ANF
Abercrombie Fitch is an American company founded in 1892 and is known for its high quality
merchandise. Abercrombie Fitch (ANF) has developed from a sporting goods store that sold guns,
fishing rods, and other outdoor activity goods to a top performer in the retail industry. ANF continues
to assess their financial situation and their marketing position as the firm continues to struggle to
expand its brand with a high price margin. The company is a successful retail brand in America;
however, it faces challenges to expand its growth domestically and internationally, and issues with
brand expansion.
The company portfolio consists of four chains that generate revenue from clothing and fragrance sales

With a strong economy, clothing firms expect an increase in demand, as there are no substitutes.
However, in a downfall economy and a price increase by one firm, will driver consumers to a cheaper
firm. ANF has a market share of 3.3% in the retail apparel market and thus, isn t a major player.
Typically in this market, if a firm wants to grow, it must take away market share from its competitors,
therefore, branding is a major driver for revenue.
Due to high level of competition and a steady trend in growth, the specialty apparel industry
experiences same sales growth due to the shift in consumer preference if a firm increases prices. The
Abercrombie Fitch has few strengths compared to competitors. ANF has a strong brand recognition,
which gives it advantage in barriers to entry against new rivals trying to create an image for
themselves. Its international growth, over 1000 stores globally, have helped increase revenue for the
firm. However, the competitive market leaves little room for increasing price margins. For example, it
is understandable for a customer to leave an ANF store and walk into a competitor store and buy
apparel at a cheaper price. As competition grows, companies must spend more money in marketing to
expand market share. ANF has seen tremendous growth, especially in 2005. The industry has seen a
growth of 26% in 2005, however, a 2% increase the following year. The strong performance in 2005
has given

A Research On Social Media
Forrester Research provided the research behind Social Technographics. Their research identified six
types of the social media users and how they interact in the online environment. The Social
Technographics ladder presented in Figure 3.3. of our reading depicts a ladder with different
participation groups at each rung. These groups include: creators, conversationalists, critics, collectors,
joiners, spectators, and inactives. It is worth noting that these groups are not exclusive, meaning a user
could fit into multiple categories for different interactions (Tuten Solomon, 2013, p. 74). Skittles is a
poplar candy brand known for their wacky advertising. It is no wonder that their social media
marketing would be just as wacky and popular. Skittles must be very aware to the different categories
of the ladder to be so successful in their social media marketing efforts. Creators are the content
creators. Their content is shared with other users and adds to the social media experience. User
generated content can include: video, photos, blogs, vlogs, comments, podcasts, forums, product
reviews, wiki contributions, and consumer created advertising. Creators are distinguished as users who
provide content for other users interact with and constitute 24 percent of social media participants
(Tuten Solomon, 2013, p. 74) Skittles has a promotion on their Facebook page that appeals to
contributors. If a user posts a photo to the page, they can become Skittles Best Fan Forever for

I don t that there is a habit of short termism because the leaders/governments are generally elected to serve a certain amount of time and there are many concerns about getting re elected. This all means that some social, environmental, and economic problems require longer term solutions. Republican I like that there are many different parts of the party. I like that the party has many ideas, conservatism, economic liberalism, fiscal conservatism, and social conservatism. What I don t like is that there is a long lasting dominance of democratic and Republican parties. Also, I don t like that the 3rd parties tend to be expressions of discontent with two major parties. Not to mention, the third parties have a little chance, and there are fears of majority tyranny. Libertarian I like that it gives us individual freedom, social liberals, economic conservatives, and non interventionist foreign policy. Healthcare Disparity Among The Hispanics Healthcare Disparity among the Hispanics Overview of the Population The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (2015) provided an overview of the Hispanic population, in which they reported the Office of Management and Budget s (OMB) categorization of the population. Specifically, OMB defines Hispanics as a population which comprises of Cubans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, South and Central Americans as well as people from other Spanish cultures (CDC, 2015). According to a report compiled by the CNN Library (2015), Hispanics are the largest minority group in the United States. In fact, the size of the Hispanic group in the United States is only second to the size of the Hispanic group in Mexico. The report further explained that there were approximately 54 million Hispanic people in the United States by 2013. The number showed a 2.1% increase in the Hispanic population between 2012 and 2013 (CNN Library, 2015). The total Hispanic population in 2013 constituted about 17% of the United States total population. Gonzalez Barrera and Lopez (2013) inferred that people of Mexican origin constituted the largest number of Hispanics in the United States. They maintained that there were approximately 33.7 million Hispanics from Mexico in the United States by 2012 (Gonzalez Barrera Lopez, 2013). • 4. The Decepticon If you have not heard of Transformers, then you have been living under a rock. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen had brought in $200 million the first week it came out. You may be wondering who is the director behind this extraordinary movie? The answer to that is Michael Bay, and he has directed many outstanding movies. With Transformers it has now been 2 years since the Autobots have save the Earth from the Decepticons, they are now working with the military to protect the earth. While they are doing that Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is now off to college and he is trying to live a normal college student life. An older Decepticon name The Fallen is up to no good and wants revenge. Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) learn the history of the Transformers and with that knowledge they help the Autobots defeat the Decepticons again. With seeing all of The Transformer movies Michael Bay uses a lot of ethos, and pathos with making his movies exciting to see. The primary audience of this movie would be the military. Optimus Prime and his Autobot friends explain to the people in the military what is going on so they can be prepared for when The Fallen and his Decepticons come. The Autobots and the military ... Transformers is definitely a draining movie, so many emotions run through your body it is impossible to control them when watching the film. The Autobots gain the militaries trust and that allows them to believe in each other. It is rare for you to see robots and humans standing hand to hand fighting to protect the ... How Did Washington s Farewell Address Dbq At the end of his second presidential administration, after forty five years serving America, President Washington did not want to leave without imparting some final guidance and wisdom. To do so, Washington, working from drafts written by James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote a letter to the American people titled The Address of Gen. Washington to the People of America, on his Declining the Presidency of the United States and more popularly known as Washington s Farewell Address. Natural Science Vs Religion Natural science and religion are two areas of knowledge that perceive knowledge using ways of knowing differently to pursue its knowledge, an example of that would be Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection and evolution. In natural science, the theory of natural selection is derived from studying the common features in the bone structure of vertebrate limbs despite its varied use. Therefore, using deductive reasoning, they established the evolution theory which states that humans evolved from apes due to the fact that human and apes have similar features and that human has evolved due to adaptation and survival of genes. • 8. Persuasion Is The Act Of Changing Individuals Persuasion is the act of changing individuals attitudes or behaviours; this is all around us in everyday life especially in the media. Persuasion has shown to be effective however there are some attempts that fail, in this essay I will explain why persuasion doesn t always work. The factors I will look at are reactance, counterarguing, avoidance, forewarning and attitude inoculation. Reactance theory can explain why some persuasion attempts fail. This suggests that a persistent attempt to persuade can actually backfire, because the individual feels that the persuasive message is directly threatening their personal freedom. This threat to their personal freedom will often produce a defiant response which is called the boomerang effect. The individual reacts against the intended message and takes on a totally different attitude because they become irritated and their reaction is to go against the persuader, especially if the individual has strong pre existing attitudes. There is research to support this by Rex A. Wright, Virginia Wadley, Maria Danner, and Priscilla Phillips. A sample of 21 female undergraduates were asked to make an independent assessment of the attractiveness of 2 men. In the experiment, they were or were not given an opinion statement that threatened their freedom, in conditions of either no pressure, mild pressure or high pressure. The results found that when participants freedom was not restricted, then there was a persuasion effect. However, when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages Of Direct Democracy Direct Democracy There is a lot of controversy over which government is the best, and honestly I don t think there really is a best form of government but I believe there that some are better than others. Direct Democracy definitely has its flaws, it is the best option open to us at this time. It gives the people the power to get what they want. America is already a form of Democracy, it s a Representative Democracy. So direct Democracy is not too far fetched. Direct democracy, also known as pure democracy, is where the people vote to on or form consensus on policy initiatives directly. The word democracy literally means rule by the people . From 1995 to 2005 swiss citizens voted over 30 different times, while the french citizens only voted twice. In direct democracies the citizens have most of the power. We want rights, freedom, and equality. But we also need some sort of structure. As people we need a say in how we live our lives but we cannot just do as we please. We can t have the government gaining too much power but we need to still be controlled. Harmony in all aspects is what we are sought after, we want and need a balance. Direct democracy is a way to get citizens involved and united. It helps keep the government transparent, you cannot make promises to the people and then not keep them because you run the risk of the people removing you from power. It holds everyone accountable, the officials to do what they promised and to fix the problems within society and the people to keep their government going in the right direction. The individual is foolish, the species is wise. (Burke). Together we are better. There are also some pros to having a direct democracy, when the people want to see change, they appeal and they vote. Which would truly be a government for the people, by the people , protecting our interests. There is a checks and balances system that makes sure the power gets distributed. Democracy also promotes equality, allows for change, doesn t put too much power in the hands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two examples of this kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes, Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark, That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8) Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. • 15. Red Cat Research Paper The coat of the domestic cat is very diverse, considering all the patterns and colors that a cat can have. From the hairless sphinx to the rough and tumble calico, genetics play a large part in determining a cat s coat length, color, and feel. Melanin seems to play an influential role in the makings of the color of a cat coat because it is what causes the color of hair and eyes. The coat of a female cat is more likely to be diverse because they have two X chromosomes. The male only has one X chromosome, which makes some of the combinations for coats, like calico or tortoiseshell, almost impossible to occur. The Red gene (O) is carried on the X chromosome; for this reason it is sex linked. Males normally only have one X chromosome and so if a male carries the Red gene at all, he will be Red. Females have two X chromosomes; if both X chromosomes carry the Red gene, then the cat will be Red. (Cat Colors FAQ: Cat Color Genetics. Cat Fanciers Chat, www.fanciers.com/other faqs/color genetics.html) Most cats are not one solid color because of the genetic diversity. America s gaping inequality is seen everywhere from education to the workforce. Society tends to oversee inequality based on race, gender, and other social characteristics . Americans believe that racial discrimination no longer hinders or affects the advancement of minorities. Racial and ethnic actions are still being taken towards minorities in education, employment, housing, arrests, and many other issues of society. Social inequality and discrimination towards minorities is clear in everyday society. This can be seen by the way inequality is still persistent among the social classes. Among these classes formed by society, minorities tend to be one of the most affected. This is noticed by the way education remains segregated, the wage inequality, and the constant cycle of poverty. Many have used their voice to shine light on these issues, articles and authors such as Social Inequality and Educational Disadvantage by the Russel Sage Foundation argue the lack of equal assortment of resources between the rich and the poor is leaving them with the disparity of proper resources, and Jean Anyon s From Social Class and The Hidden Curriculum of Work in her ... Whether that means a country is being governed by a dictatorship, an individual race being discriminated against, or immigrants in a country not being able to find adequate working environment. Even today, big businesses and individual supervisors are oppressing many people, specifically immigrants in the lowest jobs available. Because there is little room for mechanical improvement in processing cattle due to their inconsistency in size and weight, companies are still reliant on physical labor to process the meat (Schlosser 239). This shows that the methods that are used today have not changed drastically from the methods that people had to use nearly half a century ago. Within the factories, most of the workforce consists of illegal immigrants, whom are unable to find jobs anywhere else. The documentary Food Inc. discusses this problem in a scene looking at working conditions in slaughterhouses. Thus, his buildings were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design. Wright enjoyed designing buildings that were more progressive with low pitched roofs and an open floor plan. The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings for the inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and soon became an apprentice in the firm. While it only took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and doubted his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor had, Kaufmann sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design. Once Wright heard this, he grew offended and threatened to leave the project if his drawings weren t returned. Kaufmann gave in to Wright s demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s report within a stone wall of the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with supporting the West terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West terrace because there was a noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the cantilever. • 31. Women Are Controlled And Guided By Patriarchal Male Gaze Essentially, a woman s place in society s stratification is defined by the outward manifestation of her person, which is identified first and foremost by her gender. Simone de Beauvoir asserts that women are characterized as others or as not male . This distinction would not be possible if women were not recognizable by sight as not male. Due to this, it is relevant to look at film and its associations with visual representations of the woman and the male gaze. As John Berger recognises men act, women appear...men look at women...women themselves being looked at . This succinctly defines that the position of women in patriarchal culture depends on look and elucidates that women exist only in relation to men. Thus, this essay will explore to what extent women are controlled and guided by the patriarchal male gaze as is reflected in visual popular culture, in particular, narrative cinema, with specific reference to Laura Mulvey s essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. In her essay, Mulvey explores the representation of women in culture, specifically the woman as an icon, displayed for the gaze and the enjoyment of men and discusses two categories of pleasurable looking: voyeurism and narcissism. Voyeurism is concerned with deriving pleasure from viewing a distant other, and projecting one s fantasies onto that person, while narcissism is involved with some form of association or recognition with one s self in the image of another one is viewing. Introduction: In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my case study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and audience. Body of paragraphs: An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital within my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the consideration of the historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. I will then do as the question asks and evaluate the critique, I will do this by going on to decide how valid I believe the critique to be and proposing some responses to it to see how the critique really holds up, before going on to discuss some alternative critiques and whether I see them to be more valid. So to begin some context, Confucius was born in 551 B.C.E. as far as the books say, to a class of society that despite being noble had fell upon hard times. (Yu lan, 1952, P.43) All thinkers during this time the warring states were looking back to an imagined golden age, when China was a unified empire, the people were at peace, and people knew and followed the Way or Dao. Most thinkers of this time looked to achieve this once again. (Yu lan, 1952, p.43) Confucius s main ideas and practices then. To Confucius the Dao or way, is considered to be nothing more or less than the way a person choices to live their life. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones consisted of a duet by Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece was in major. • 40. To The Lighthouse Essay Pause, reflect, and the reader may see at once the opposing yet relative perceptions made between life, love, marriage and death in Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse. In this novel, Woolf seems to capture perfectly the very essence of life, while conveying life s significance as communicated to the reader in light tones of consciousness arranged with the play of visual imagery. That is, each character in the novel plays an intrinsic role in that the individuality of other characters can be seen only through the former s psyche. Moreover, every aspect of this novel plays a significant role in its creation. For instance; the saturation of the present by the past, the atmospheres conjoining personalities and separating them, and the moments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was always true. (Woolf 45). To the Lighthouse, then, is really a story of a struggle between two kinds of truth Mr. Ramsay s and Mrs. Ramsay s. For him, truth seems to be concrete, factual; for her, truth seems to be one s endeavor toward truth. To further clarify this claim, I will make reference to a point in the novel in which the reader is able to see just how different Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay perceive life. It is when they are discussing their son Andrew, and what he might accomplish in life: Oh scholarships! she said. Mr. Ramsay thought her foolish for saying that, about a serious thing, like a scholarship. He should be very proud of Andrew if he got a scholarship, he said. She would be just as proud of him if he didn t, she answered (Woolf 74). The differing 3 approaches of Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay, (whether perceived as right or wrong) present a choice between the former and the latter; which is indeed a matter of preference; of ... If you lose that one person or that small group of people to places that they would rather be, they re not going to come back and you re going to lose a tremendous amount of wealth creation He was responding to Helliwell s theory saying that the flow of migrants from Canada to the United States, whether overall or only among the highly educated, are less than a quarter as large as those in the 1960 s. The CEO is trying to say that maybe the flow of migrants are less but we are losing key players and that in the long run it will definitely hurt our nation. If the talent is moving away from Canada because of better benefits less tax then the companies will follow the people that drive success and hence the low number of migrants will eventually add up to millions of dollars of loss, and at this point millions of dollars is definitely a problem that the government needs to address and fast. Joel Lester Very few theorists touch upon the topic of motivic and structural coherence in Bach s dance suites. The de emphasis of the returning 3 as a passing tone from 4 to 2 lends importance to the incomplete upper neighbor A, supported by IV. This self contained tonal area stretches over half of the Preludio. A reprise of an opening passage at the initiation of the A prolongation gestures its independence from its surrounding, indeed a smaller organism enveloped within the larger animal. This is evident through the internal auxiliary cadence to A that accompanies the tonal area IV. In retrospect, the IV is already a long term goal from the beginning. The first 58 measures properly set the stage for the emergence of IV. The first step on the path to IV is the movement to VI as a short term goal. This is done by first moving to G# (m.39) through F# (m.37), creating a third progression E F# G# in the process. The G# is employed first in the top voice as primary tone and then in the bass as pedal point, also the fifth to the incoming C# (m.51) [FIG 4. EX. 1]. The C#, in a sense, is a midway stopping point from E major on its way to A major. A# in measure 53 leads to B, creating yet another third progression G# A# B. The B is to be read not as V of E but as II of A, unfolding to tonic through two consecutive fifths B E A [EX.2]. As we shall see, the contour of the bass forecasts what is to come; additionally this prelude within the Preludio presents the material for further elaboration and development.
