purchased by organization. In 2004 a second centre was established in leased premises in
Brisbane (Queensland) and then Sydney (New South Wales) and Melbourne (Victoria) in the
subsequent two years. A new intention is to establish a new centre in Perth (Western Australia).
Bounce Fitness centre will lead a marketing plan focus on adults 50 to 70 year with a health
concerns and sufficient disposable income to take out memberships. Emphasis will be placed on
female clients. This campaign is for its 4 modern and well equipped fitness centers. Bounce
Fitness Centre will begin by targeting the more established suburbs where there are many original
residents who are generally older, without children at home and are retiring. A wellness program

Jannis Kounellis Research Paper
Jannis Kounellis, born in 1936 in Piraeus, and living in Rome since 1956, is one of the most
influential proponent of radical and revolutionary art of the 60s. Since 1956, he has been active in
Italy, instantly becoming recognized and praised all over the world. Before the Arte Povera has
been defined by the curator and art historian Germano Celant in 1967, Kounellis experimented
within the medium of painting, incorporating found objects and non traditional material into his art,
consequently adopting more performative approach towards his art. By the end of 60s, the time of
the Amalfi Festival (1968), When Attitudes Become Form at the Kunsthalle Bern, and Op Losse
Schroeven at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (both 1969), Kounellis held an individual show
at the Galleria L Attico in Rome (1969).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

indeed a beautiful thing and one of the greatest experiences of my travels! Nothing compares
with the canyon s grandeur. Arizona, with a fascinating Native American history, is called as the
Grand Canyon State . 4.My Dad, Grandpa and myself took a Grand Canyon Helicopter tour over
the different parts of the canyons a journey that I will never forget. The Grand Canyon National

Abstract
The steady MHD axisymmetric flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting nanofluid
impinging on a permeable plate is investigated with heat and mass transfer. An external uniform
magnetic field as well as a uniform inflow; suction or injection; are applied normal to the plate,
which is maintained at a constant temperature and nanoparticles concentration. The effects of heat
(generation/ absorption) and chemical reactions are also taken into account. The nanofluid flow
model incorporates the effects of both Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Numerical solutions
for the governing nonlinear momentum, energy and nanoparticle equations are obtained. The
influence of the physical parameters on the velocity, temperature, nanoparticle fraction, in addition
to rates of heat and mass transfer are presented and

The Heavy Burden Pertaining To Racism Summary
487 The Heavy Burden Pertaining to Racism The concept and debate regarding racial equality
within this society varies cross culturally. There is indeed a heavy burden and a discrepancy with
regards to racism, stemming from a lack of education, towards a lack of opportunities, which leads
to oppression. While Tricia Rose explores how the educational system is under representative when
it comes to minorities and the oppressed, BeyoncГ© took a bold political statement while
juxtaposing her views towards the radical Black Panther movement.
First, Tricia Rose explores the onset of educational equality within this unequal system. She sheds
light on the misconception that wealthy individuals are worthy and have received their knowledge
as well as money in a just way. Conversely, the poor, unprivileged individuals have not obtained just
rewards, where the educational system has created an unnecessary burden for students. This can be
exemplified by the fact that students obtaining an education already have their future carved out. For
instance, while a white affluent individual will have more opportunities pertaining to attaining a
better education and higher grades, a poor African American will not have the same... Show more

While Tricia Rose s speech on educational equality is quite realistic, BeyoncГ© created an
ineffective radical approach to spark violence. The educational system, particularly public schools
should increase their standards in order to provide seamless and equal opportunities to individuals
of all races and demographics. Notwithstanding, powerful individuals such as BeyoncГ© should not
take advantage of sports events in order to attract 100 million viewers with wrongful exposure,
creating unnecessary politically charged ideas. Our society is pervasive with inequality, and it is up
to the system, rather than rappers, to ameliorate education, which will lead to equality rather than

Epiphanies In The Bean Trees
Epiphanies are central to the plots of many novels. In the novel The Bean Trees by Barbara
Kingslover, the main character, Taylor Greer, has an epiphany that changes the course of her
life. After Turtle is traumatized in the park, Taylor withdraws from her and the rest of the world,
believing that no nothing she does truly matters. As Turtle improves, Taylor realizes that her
positive actions do make the world a better place. When Turtle begins to talk again, Taylor has an
epiphany and realizes that every small compassionate action is important and that even she can
help make the world a better place. As a result of her epiphany, Taylor is more willing to help
others. The positive results of Taylor s epiphany are first shown when she decides to fight for
custody of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By fighting to save the most important part of her life, Taylor shows that she has realized what
is truly important. When she decides not to discuss Turtle s future in front of her, as though she
simply property, Taylor s renewed belief in small acts of kindness and the effect they can have
on people, is shown. Once more, she knows that even small acts of compassion can have large
impacts on the lives of others. The effects of Taylor s epiphany are illustrated again when she
agrees to drive Estevan and Esperanza to Oklahoma. Even though she does not want Estevan to
leave, Taylor drives him and Esperanza to Oklahoma, risking fines and jail time in the process.
When Mattie warns Taylor of the dangers of her plan, Taylor says, Just stop it, okay? Estevan
and Esperanza are my friends. And, even if they weren t, I can t see why I shouldn t do this. By
saying this, Taylor s belief in the importance of doing the right thing, even when it is dangerous,
is displayed. Taylor s morals have been transformed: bravery and integrity are now more important
to her than safety and realism. She no longer withdraws from her friends and loved ones like she
did after

Older Adults Vital Signs
Vital signs are great indicators to show any abnormalities of a patients health. A nurse assessing
older adult patients need to think about the variations that come with aging; such as bones
becoming more rigid, skin to become more like paper and are more suitable for tears; and their
hearts may not be able to pump bloodas efferent as before (Jensen, 2015). Many challenges can
arise when trying to obtain an older adults vital signs such, as palpating a pulse and taking
temperatures; nurses have to be able to find ways to get around these challenges, and get accurate
results.
Pulse rates decreases with older age. This is because with an older person the metabolic rate is less
than that as of a child ( Alexis, 2010, p. 244). Not only does

Art, Surrealism, and the Grotesque Essay
The term grotesque in art and literature, commonly refers to the juxtaposition of extreme contrasts
such as horror and humor, or beauty and monstrosity, or desire and revulsion. One function of this
juxtaposition of the rational and the irrational is to subdue or normalize the unknown, and thereby
control it.
The simultaneity of mutually exclusive emotional states, and the discomfort it might cause, inspires
a Freudian analytic critical approach because of its focus on controlling repressed desires through
therapeutic rationality.
There are volumes of Freudian art criticism, which typically begin by calling attention to
manifestations, in some work of art, of the darkest desires of the id. Perhaps in no field ... Show

In this discussion, I hope to put a different spin on surrealism and the grotesque by drawing on
the works of Sartre, and if we re not too dizzy from spinning when all is said and done, I shall
have put together a way to investigate the grotesque in Modernist art and contemporary life. After
a summary of the surrealist s use of Freud and a look at Sartre s criticism of surrealism, we will
look at surrealism in Sartre s work and derive an existentialist definition of the grotesque and
examine how this might reconfigure the surrealist goal of liberation. Surrealist art is almost always
analyzed in terms of
Freudian psychoanalytic theory because the surrealists openly announced Freud s study of the
psyche as the inspiration for the practice of surrealism. Andr‚ Breton, author of the many
surrealist Manifestoes and the self appointed spokesman and scribe of the surrealist movement,
eulogized Freud, who died in
1939, by writing that: . . .the death of Freud is enough to render the future of psychoanalytic ideas
uncertain, and threatens once again to turn an exemplary instrument of liberation into an instrument
of oppression (Breton 282).
The liberation to which Breton refers, has to do with the freeing of unconscious expression,

Risk And Implement Falls Prevention Measures
More Staff is Not the Solution to Decrease Patient Falls Falls in an acute care setting lead the list
of injury related deaths and deaths in the elderly. A fall is defined as any event which patients
are found on the floor (observed or unobserved) or an unplanned lowering of the patient to the
floor by staff or visitors (Kalisch, Tschannen, and Lee, 2012, p. 6). Medicare and Medicaid changes
in 2008 list falls as one of the 10 hospitalacquired conditions for which hospitals will no longer be
reimbursed because falls are considered preventable conditions. Joint Commission accredited
hospitals are required to assess for falls risk and implement falls prevention measures. Central to
nursing ethics is the principle of nonmaleficence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients being admitted to hospitals today have multiple co morbidities and are on a number of
medications making them a high risk for falls. Having an awareness of a patients diagnoses,
pertinent history and current medications is key in establishing an appropriate plan of care.
Staffing shortages can lead to omission of tasks such as a complete admission history and falls
risk assessment. As with any assignment, regardless of the amount of patients one is caring for,
prioritization needs to be utilized when completing tasks and making care decisions. Further work
must be done to assist nurses in completing necessary tasks...which may or may not mean
additional staff members (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012, p. 11). Developing strategies such as
computerized reminders and checklists are necessary to ensure complete and appropriate nursing
care is delivered. (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012, p. 11) The lack of proper education on
identification of falls risk and falls prevention measures impact patient falls. Staff turnover and the
use of temporary staff contribute to miscommunication or lack of communication on processes such
as fall prevention measures. Experience levels vary on any given unit. Educational needs
assessments should be routine and include temporary and new staff. Authors Manojlovich, Sidani,
Covell, and Antonakos (2011) define nurse dose as the level of nurses required to provide patient

Thesis Statement For Universal Health Care
Health care is an essential requirement for well being (Maruthappu). All over the world, health
care is a constant concern because of the difficulty maintaining quality and affordability. In the
United States, health care reform has been a huge debate topic. The purpose of health care is to
satisfy the medical needs of an individual. However, many Americans consider health care a
luxury, because millions of low income families cannot afford the same care as the middle or high
class. In this case, the right to quality and affordable health care is not extended to all Americans.
Universal health carewill ensure a higher life expectancy, reduce the cost of medical treatment
through a single payer method, and improve medical treatments.... Show more content on

Countries in Europe experience taxes increasing year after year , which is what Americans fear
(Post). People believe the U.S. government already provides enough coverage and welfare for
lower income families. A significant portion of Americans does not want their hard earned money
used for unemployed people. Instead of seeing health care coverage as a right, people believe
health care should be paid for ( Right to Health Care ). However, the government uses income
taxes to fund infrastructure, schooling, and the military. Health care coverage is just as important.
The military protects Americans, schools improve their education, but health care saves lives. Low
income families should not have to step away from the ability to live because of their inability to

The Importance Of Rape In The American Civil War
Before the American Civil War, the US was both a provincial and a proprietary colony of England
and directly ruled by the Monarchy. All executive and legislative powers were subjugated to the
statute and royal charters from Britain. The common law had supremacy over punishments, and
local rulings were subject to precedents and stare decisis of superior courts in England.
One sexual crime that was prolific up the civil conflict was rape. There was a statutory
prohibition against abuse, and the punishment could be being banished, fines, public beatings or
marriage between the parties if they were single. There was no provision for the rape of a male.
However, in these moralistic statutes did not extend to slaves who frequently subjected to
sexual exploitation. The law declared slaves to be chattels which were owned and exploited at
the whim of its masters. Rape commonly used to break the will of both male and female slaves
and to increase the slave population for financial gains by masters becoming breeders and selling
the offspring profitably. Challenges to such barbaric behaviors by a slave could result in the
demise of challenger and a separation of families to distant plantations. However, the rape laws and
plantation rules were strictly and severely enforced against the slaves, which saw arbitrary and
cruel punishments being imposed which often was torture and death.
Rape is still as pervasive as it was in the period before the civil war and enactments have target

Sex in the Media Essay
Sex in the Media
One of the most important resources of a business is its advertisement team. Due to the fact that
people can and will buy your product only if they know about it. This is the reason that marketing
and advertisement have the biggest budgets in a business. This is the reason that places such as
Amazon.com spend up to four million dollars on advertisement a year, according to Dream
Biz.com written by Burke Hedges. There is a saying that goes Sex sells is this true? Most people
would argue that it does. Since choosing this topic it has forced me to see everything different.

about these commercials that they have invested over 33 million dollars. They obviously must be
working but advertisements are supposed to expose the consumers to your product. Maybe I?m
just a little uptight when I expect the commercial to tell me something about the product. For
years music videos have been venues in which artist can show off other performing skills may it
be acting or dancing. They were originally created for promotional purposes. These promotions
are generally used to show the artist in a different light. Of course there are commercials for
artist?s records as well. One commercial in particular bothered me. There is an R B artist by the
name of ?Tank? it is obvious that he cares about his appearance because of his well chilled
physique, but he has one commercial where he is working out; doing sets of bench presses, push
up, pull ups and so forth. What bothers me about the commercial is that you don?t hear any of his
music and just watch him work out. From my understanding what the consumer is buying is his
music and not his body. I know that sex sells but it seems to me that advertisers no longer want to
do any work, just slap an attractive body on screen or paper and call it a day.

External Factors Affecting The Air Conditioning System
The efficiency of air conditioning systems varies from one device to another. If periodic
maintenance of the system is regular, the efficiency of the air conditioning is high, and the
indications are that it can work at the maximum load conditions. This gives the system a maximum
life span in addition to an optimum operation at the maximum thermal load conditions. Another
factor that increases the efficiency of air conditioningis the cleanliness of air filter and fins of the
evaporator. Dirty and dusty filters fins lead to multiple failures, including frost along the whole
length of the coil of the entire evaporator up to the compressor beside the fall of condensation water
of the device and the weakness of the air flowing into the room. On the other hand, when the fins of
the condenser located in the external unit are unclean and the fan capacity is very low, this leads to
high pressure, which causes compressor damage due to high pressure, temperature and continuous
work. Furthermore, when the current (watt) consumption is 15 30% less than the normal value of a
system, this indicates that there is a blockage in the cooling circuit or that the cooling system
quantity inside the system is less than the planned one.

Aristotle s Three Artistic Proofs
Persuasion consists of artistic and inartistic proof. This theory comes from the great Greek
philosopher Aristotle. Artistic proof is controlled by the persuader who can control the choice of
evidence, the organization of the persuasion, style of delivery, and language choices. Aristotle
believed that there were three main types of artistic proof, ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is
persuasiondepending on a source s credibility. Pathos uses the emotions to appeal to people.
Lastly, logos uses the idea of logical and rational appeals. By implementing the three artistic
proofs when raising awareness for the disease Lupus it can create great dividends for the cause and

As a group, we have close personal connections to people that suffer from this disease. Our efforts
are to raise awareness with students of the symptoms because people who suffer with lupus are
among us every day and we cannot comprehend the struggle that they are going through. When
creating the pamphlets that we will use to educate the masses, we will include stories of people
who suffer from this disease. By including the personal testimonies it will allow students to
understand how lupus affects the victim s everyday life. Once students understand how painful it
to live with this disease, they will be aware of the symptoms and be able to educate others.
Grasping what people with this disease go through and what they suffer from, has motivated our

quest for a cure is. The reasoning is that this is a genetic disease that is affecting 1.5 million

Viability Of The Business Concept
Viability of The Business Concept
The business concept Kayi Davie and Abdallah Bawazir proposed after conducting research was to
create a campsite using the plot of land Bawazir had inherited from his family and start a hospitality
business that would be cheap to operate. They would target the international budget tourists
commonly referred to as backpackers since it is a low cost form of international travel.
Backpackers would rely on public transportation and inexpensive accommodations to reduce costs.
The two entrepreneurs had seen how successful this type of tourism had become in neighboring
countries and desired to replicate this business in Rwanda.
First of all to start their business, they already have a good starting point. ... Show more content on

Some decisions that Kayi and Abdallah had made is to invest $15,000 to build the necessary
utilities and building for the campsite and $4,000 to cover working capital requirements during the
first 18 months.
Breaking Even
If the partners were to charge $12 per night per bed as well as have a profit margin of 30% for
food, 50% on beverages and 50% on hygiene products, and 100% on Internet, they would make a
profit of $20.91 on each customer per night (see Exhibit 1) after getting taxed 18%. With a profit
of $20.91, to break even from their initial investment of $15,000 for the tents, generator,
construction, furniture/bedding, modems, wiring, landscaping, fridge/BBQ/TV, and their working
capital of $4,000 for the first 18 months, they would need at least 909 campers (Exhibit 1) to break
even, assuming every camper stayed for 1 night.
Marketing Options Davie and Bawazir are faced with many options to choose from to attract a
steady flow of customers. The first set of marketing possibilities the entrepreneurs can choose from
is local partnerships around Rwanda. They can collaborate together with businesses that actively
promote Rwanda s backpacking culture and distribute brochures and posters at these locations in
exchange for advertising space at the campsite for $50 per month. With this

Color Blindness Essay
Color Blindness
Many people refer to problems with one s ability to see color as color blindness, however, unless a
person can t see any color at all, color vision problems should be called by another term. Common
terms are abnormal color vision, color deficiency and color vision confusion. Females maybe be
effected by color blindness, but usually they are just carriers. Males are more often affected.
About 8% of males and 0.5% of females are effected by color blindness. Although color blindness
may be a result of another eye disorder, the majority of color blind cases are hereditary and present
at birth. The retina, is a complex nerve system which converts light energy into electrical energy

This is the rarest form of color blindness. This is when no colors can be seen at all. The color
receptors are almost completely gone in this form, however, the white and black receptors
remain intact. However, this condition is often misdiagnosed without proper testing. There are
three basic types of color blindness: deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia. Deuteranopia is a
condition in which people have trouble dealing with green. These people are one of the largest
groups of color blind people. Very often, these people also have a problem with red. These
people can often distinguish red or green when with other colors, but when it is by itself, it is
very difficult. Many people will just see it as white. Protanopia are those seem to need an
abnormal amount of red or have no sense of red color vision. Often, people will see bold red as
black or nonexistent. Some people may see red orange as brown and yellow green as brown. In
other words, neither red or green can often be distinguished for sure. Tritanopia are those who
have trouble distinguishing blue and yellow. This disorder is much less common than the red
green colorblindness, and is usually acquired, not received through heredity. These people may
see both blue and yellow as white. They may even see mint green or pink as an equal to light blue.
Red color blindness is the most common. This is when the red color receptors are nonexistent. These

The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Boston
Massacre was a small riot between the colonists and British soldiers. Evidence supports that the
colonists were to blame for the events that led to the Boston Massacre, which resulted in five
colonial deaths. The colonists used propaganda to invoke anger in the colonists. Document 1,
which is an engraving of the Boston Massacre by Paul Revere depicts the colonists as helpless
bystanders that were shot down by the British soldiers. In the engraving, colonists are shown

Analysis Of Pat Barker As A Memory
A memory has different ways to function that varies from one person to another. The memory
itself is defined as the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information. Trauma is
something else that can be attached to a memory and it is defined as a deeply distressing or
disturbing experience. Memory plays a tremendous role in our lives as well as in our society. A
memory can prevent us from making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of
breakdown. Are all memories worth to be reminded of? In Regeneration by Pat Barker as well as
in The IMIGRANTS by W.G. Sebald we see a flow of narratives that underline traumatic memories.
On this paper, we will focus our attention on Billy Prior, one of the characters in Regeneration, and
Ambros Adelwarth of The Emigrants who are somehow fighting their memories.
Billy Prior and Ambros Adelwarth both represent a strong problem of memory, they both have a
clear memory of their past, but sharing them is one of the problems in the first place. Let begin by
talking about Billy Prior, a conflicted and complicated character being a soldier who had had a
difficult life, both at war and at home as he mentions to Rivers about the front: Look, you might
like to think it s one big happy family out there, but it s not (Regeneration, pg. 53). His
experience in the army was not as happy as he had imagined it could be since he believed that he
did not really fit in his previous job as a clerk in a shipping office, but that he would

JEWISH TOLERANCE IN MUSLIM SPAIN AND MEDIEVAL CHRISTIAN SOCIETY
After the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 Jews found themselves in the hands of tolerant Muslims in Al

They began to see Jews as a threat and their tolerance dwindled. Reasons for this sudden change

The Problem Of Drugs And Drugs

I m Not Addicted, Says Every Addict Drugs are substances that can alter a person s physical or

cause hallucinations, and most importantly, relieve stress. There are prescription drugs that are
used by people with medical conditions, but there are also others who abuse illegal drugs or

Based on this information gathered, it is easily identifiable that drugs are exposed to everyone
including young Americans and not only adults. Drugs are introduced to people of all ages for
several reasons, with media being the major source. Although the advertisement of tobacco in
American television and radio is now banned, there are still countless amount of advertisements
for alcohol and pain relieving drugs today. Even if illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine
are not advertised, many television shows and movies have multiple scenes that show the
characters abusing drugs and enjoying its effects. People are more susceptible to taking drugs
because of the constant exposure to media portraying that drugs and alcohol are enjoyable and
will relieve stress from the problems that they might have. In the book A Streetcar Named
Desire, alcohol was consumed as a way to forget about reality and escape. Blanche DuBois, a
main character of this novel, constantly drank alcohol because she believed that it temporarily

The book I selected was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom written by Bill Martin Jr. and John

The Human Society Of San Diego
As we grow up in life, we often wonder what it would be like to have a pet. Some parents will go
out to the far limits to get that one of a kind dog. Others will just tell their children that having an
animal takes responsibility. Whether it is one or the other, we still have that thought in our head.
In this paper, I want to look at one place where a child or parents can get that chance to make that
dream of having a pet at home a reality. I welcome you to the humane societyof San Diego. I often
said to myself, this is where are the stray animals go. Not true, when you take a look some maybe
stray but others come from a home that just plain got tired of them. Let me show you the journey
of what the humane society of San Diego can do when it comes to looking at that pet to come home
with you.
History of the San Diego Human Society As we all know, we must look first at the past of the
humane society. San Diego is just one of many that are around and offer so many. The question
is, where did they get there beginnings from? Well lets go back to March of 1880, when San
Diego was still in it s beginning phases of growing. This was the start of the San Diego humane
society. Looking that far back, you can see that even than the importance of animals were looked at.
From that time it was the start of what would be a huge organization that was solely for the
treatment of the animal. From that day in March, the humane society has made its promise to

†the Advantages of Primary Elections Far Outweigh Their...
Primary elections are elections held previous to a Presidential election to decide upon the
presidential candidate from the two main parties. These are held in each state, each of which
then goes on to sponsor the winning candidate of their primary at the national convention, where
the party s presidential candidate is announced. This method of choosing a candidate came about
due to the McGovem/Fraser Commission of 1968 (where Mayor Daley refused McGovem the
chance to run as he was too liberal). It replaced the old system of decisions being made in smoke
filled rooms where party bosses were all powerful and made the decision.
The alternative to the primary election is the caucus, which is more similar to the original version of

It weeds out the weak candidates, who will lose momentum along the way and fall out of the race.
Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for
presidency.
A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not
otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional democrat
/liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot of
votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not
necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not
widely known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage,
as it meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal.
This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from
expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may
be chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who
is not representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no
influence over this.
Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates

Analysis Of Nancy Marie Brown s The Kitchen
Fedoroff s expertise is not established through highly convoluted scientific jargon. Instead, she
shows her deep understanding of plant biotechnology by explaining difficult scientific topics in
conversational terms. It is unfair to say that the book is a light read, as it certainly requires
concentration to grasp the difficult concepts like transposons and epigenetics. Fortunately, the
book s co author Nancy Marie Brown helps elucidate confusion surrounding these topics. Brown
has been a science writer since 1981 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in writing and a master s
degree in comparative literature from Pennsylvania State University. Since then, she has worked
as a writer and editor for the sciences at her alma mater. Additionally, she is a member of the
National Association of Science Writers. With the assistance of Brown s writing ability,
Fedoroff establishes her qualifications on plant biotechnology and conveys her views clearly
and concisely, making Mendel in the Kitchen: A Scientist s View of Genetically Modified Foods
much more accessible to the public (Nancy Marie Brown). By maintaining a largely fact based
and scientific perspective throughout the book, Fedoroff furthers her credibility. Plant
biotechnology is Fedoroff s life s work, earning her a plethora of honors and awards. Thus, it is
only natural for her to be more in favor of the pro plant biotechnology view she argues for in her
book. However, Fedoroff maintains a neutral stance for the rest of her

Life Along the Silk Road Essay
Life Along The Silk Road
During the outward looking rule of China s Tang dynasty (seventh ninth century C. E. ),
sophisticated people in northeastern Iran developed such a taste for expensive, imported Chinese
pottery that they began to imitate it in great quantity for sale to people who could not afford the
real thing. And in northern China there was a vogue for beautiful pottery figurines of camels laden
with caravan goods or ridden by obviously non Chinese merchants, musicians, or entertainers. Non

Camels afford us one glimpse of how this system came into being. The two humped or Bactrian
camel was native to central Asia and Iran and was used as a domestic animal from at least the third
millennium BCE. onward. The one humped camel was native to Saudi Arabia. Physically the two
species share resistance to thirst and to hunger, which probably explains the survival of both of
these comparatively defenseless species in regions too arid or barren to support many predators.
They differ, however, in their resistance to heat. The two humped camel has a long, shaggy coat
during the winter and molts in the spring; one humped breeds have much less hair in their torrid
native climate of Arabia (Oliver).
It is reasonable to assume that two humped pack camels were used from the beginning by travelers
along the Silk Road. Once they got to Mesopotamia, however, they must have suffered terribly
from summer heat. Yet summer was the most likely time of arrival because the several month
journey from northern China usually began in the fall, when the camels were in best condition after
a summer of grazing (William/ Spielvogel 251).
Of course, it must have been evident to traders that Mesopotamia had its own camel, the one
humped animal herded in

Muscular dystrophy is a degenerating disease, in which the skeletal muscles degenerate, lose their

trunk and shoulder, and later affecting the heart muscle. By the age of twenty years individuals
affected with Duchenne dystrophy die.
While there is no known cure, scientists are certain of the genetic make up that causes muscular
dystrophy, an inherited faulty gene. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex
linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive
Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance.
The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is
producing an affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male
producing children, particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular
dystrophy will be carriers; on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a
genetic mutation in the gene, appearing most often for the first time in a family.
Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both
parents are carriers of the defective gene. For this reason the offspring have a 25% chance of being
affected with both malformed genes, resulting in them being affected. The chance increases with
cousin marriages.

How Did Catholics Pose A Significant Threat In England
There is much historical debate as to whether Catholics posed a significant threat in England. Duffy
has found through the study of wills that Catholic views were still seen in a large section of the
population. However, Doran suggests that long and relentless government persecutions forced
many Catholics from their faith. This would indicate that there is uncertainty as to the Catholic
threat domestically and Murphy would certainly argue that due to the increasingly hostile situation
in Europe that the bigger Catholic threat came from abroad. When the Elizabethan Church
Settlement was created Elizabeth attempted to return religious policy to the way it had been at
the end of Henry VIII s reign; there is also an indication the settlement was driven by a need for
political expediency. Elizabeth herself is seen by historians such as C Haigh as a sincere and
committed protestant due to her upbringing; however, she recognised that a large population of
England was still Catholic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reverend Parris And Reverend Hale In The Crucible By...
Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale in The Crucible What is your motivation? Wealth? Power?
Good reputation? How about the truth? In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, all of these desires are
common. Two Puritan ministers, Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale, have one similar
motivation, the people of Salem, but they also have very different motivations, like reputation
and truth, which are exposed as the play unfolds. Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale have a
similar motivation, the people of Salem. While questioning Parris, he exclaims to Mary Warren,
Cast the Devil out! Look him in the face! Trample him! We ll save you, Mary, only stand fast
against him... (Miller 118) Hale, who has returned from a soul searching trip, is trying to get
people to confess to save their lives and suggests to Danforth, Excellency, if you postpone a week,
and publish to the town that you are striving for their confessions, that speak mercy on your part,
not faltering. (Miller 130) Sunstrand argues that, Hale and Parris realize too late that the accused
were victims of the girls hysteria and the townspeople s private grievances. (1) Despite having
some similarities, Hale and Parris also have different motivations.... Show more content on

When word gets out that the girls were dancing in the woods, Parris complains to Abigail that,
...just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very
character. (Miller 11) Parris, fearful of such a thing, tells Abigail that, There is a faction that is
sworn to drive me from my pulpit. Do you understand that? (Miller 10) Lutz explains that,
Interrogating her sparks off Parris fear that unnatural things may be going on, occult practices that
could wreck his career... (1) Unlike Parris self centered motivations, Hale has more truth seeking

Technology Has Changed The World
Technology has changed the world we live in and has had a significant impact on the way society
works and performs their jobs. Constant rises in innovations such as advanced computers,
communications systems, industrial robots, computer assisted manufacturing, and computer
assisted design have created shifts in the structures of many industries. These new technologies and
innovations have been universally introduced and used through various industries to modernize,
reduce costs and to compete more efficiently in both domestic and overseas markets. Changes in
technology have helped to changethe structure of many existing occupations as well as helped to
create new technologically based occupations. In addition, wages for high technology... Show more

Using economic theory and information gathered from prior academic research, this paper will
address how technological changes have affected the demand for skilled and unskilled workers.
There has been a long debate throughout various forms of literature related to this topic over
whether technology is destroying or creating jobs. Taking economic theory into consideration, I
have come to the hypothesis that technological changes have shifted the demand for both skilled
and unskilled workers; causing a downward shift in demand for low/unskilled workers and causing
an upward shift in the demand for skilled workers. Based on substitution and scale effects,
technological change creates shifts in labor demand. Because innovation and automation reduces
the cost of capital, this also results in substitution and scale effects.
In this paper, I will first review three sources of economic research related to my topic. I will
summarize their research question, methods and findings. I will then summarize my findings and
present some future points to consider. After assessing the various information gathered from prior
academic research, I have come to the conclusion that overall skill biased technological change
does exist and does in fact affect the demand for skilled and unskilled workers.

Thomas Hobbes Pros And Cons
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of physical violence. During 1600s people started
to look at the world around them differently because of the English Civil War going on. This
caused thinkers called Philosophes to think about government and how it should work. Thomas
Hobbes was one of the philosophes that believed people were evil. Thomas Hobbeslived through the
english civil war and that shaped many of his opinions on humanity. He also tried to answer the
question Why do we have government. Hobbes believed people were selfish and evil and he also
believed that before government people were always at war. One of Hobbes major beliefs about
government was that there should only be one person in power to prevent disagreements, and no...

Hobbes also said that In such condition there is no place for industry... no knowledge of the face
of the earth. He didn t think that it was possible for people to accomplish anything in the state of
nature. Hobbes also believed there would be knowledge in the world because everyone would
be arguing and at war. People were naturally evil in hobbes point of view and that s why people
would never accomplish anything if there were always competing against each other and
wasting there time. Hobbes did not like the idea of living in a state of nature and he saw it as an
opportunity for people to be at war and fight because of the lack of laws. He claimed that During
the time men live without a common power to keep them in awe, they are in that conditions
called war. Hobbes saw the state of nature as a time for wars because there were no rules that
people would fear and people need to have a fear to be in control. People would have no laws to
keep them in control and it wouldn t go well for the society. Hobbes did not think that people
would be civilized without laws and people would be bad and evil towards each

An external uniform magnetic field as well as a uniform inflow; suction or injection; are applied normal to the plate, which is maintained at a constant temperature and nanoparticles concentration. The effects of heat (generation/ absorption) and chemical reactions are also taken into account. The nanofluid flow model incorporates the effects of both Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Numerical solutions for the governing nonlinear momentum, energy and nanoparticle equations are obtained. The influence of the physical parameters on the velocity, temperature, nanoparticle fraction, in addition to rates of heat and mass transfer are presented and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Heavy Burden Pertaining To Racism Summary 487 The Heavy Burden Pertaining to Racism The concept and debate regarding racial equality within this society varies cross culturally. There is indeed a heavy burden and a discrepancy with regards to racism, stemming from a lack of education, towards a lack of opportunities, which leads to oppression. While Tricia Rose explores how the educational system is under representative when it comes to minorities and the oppressed, BeyoncГ© took a bold political statement while juxtaposing her views towards the radical Black Panther movement. First, Tricia Rose explores the onset of educational equality within this unequal system. She sheds light on the misconception that wealthy individuals are worthy and have received their knowledge as well as money in a just way. Conversely, the poor, unprivileged individuals have not obtained just rewards, where the educational system has created an unnecessary burden for students. This can be exemplified by the fact that students obtaining an education already have their future carved out. For instance, while a white affluent individual will have more opportunities pertaining to attaining a better education and higher grades, a poor African American will not have the same... Art, Surrealism, and the Grotesque Essay The term grotesque in art and literature, commonly refers to the juxtaposition of extreme contrasts such as horror and humor, or beauty and monstrosity, or desire and revulsion. One function of this juxtaposition of the rational and the irrational is to subdue or normalize the unknown, and thereby control it. The simultaneity of mutually exclusive emotional states, and the discomfort it might cause, inspires a Freudian analytic critical approach because of its focus on controlling repressed desires through therapeutic rationality. In this discussion, I hope to put a different spin on surrealism and the grotesque by drawing on the works of Sartre, and if we re not too dizzy from spinning when all is said and done, I shall have put together a way to investigate the grotesque in Modernist art and contemporary life. After a summary of the surrealist s use of Freud and a look at Sartre s criticism of surrealism, we will look at surrealism in Sartre s work and derive an existentialist definition of the grotesque and examine how this might reconfigure the surrealist goal of liberation. Surrealist art is almost always analyzed in terms of Freudian psychoanalytic theory because the surrealists openly announced Freud s study of the psyche as the inspiration for the practice of surrealism. Andr‚ Breton, author of the many surrealist Manifestoes and the self appointed spokesman and scribe of the surrealist movement, eulogized Freud, who died in 1939, by writing that: . . .the death of Freud is enough to render the future of psychoanalytic ideas uncertain, and threatens once again to turn an exemplary instrument of liberation into an instrument of oppression (Breton 282). If periodic maintenance of the system is regular, the efficiency of the air conditioning is high, and the indications are that it can work at the maximum load conditions. This gives the system a maximum life span in addition to an optimum operation at the maximum thermal load conditions. Another factor that increases the efficiency of air conditioningis the cleanliness of air filter and fins of the evaporator. Dirty and dusty filters fins lead to multiple failures, including frost along the whole length of the coil of the entire evaporator up to the compressor beside the fall of condensation water of the device and the weakness of the air flowing into the room. On the other hand, when the fins of the condenser located in the external unit are unclean and the fan capacity is very low, this leads to high pressure, which causes compressor damage due to high pressure, temperature and continuous work. In this paper, I want to look at one place where a child or parents can get that chance to make that dream of having a pet at home a reality. I welcome you to the humane societyof San Diego. I often said to myself, this is where are the stray animals go. Not true, when you take a look some maybe stray but others come from a home that just plain got tired of them. Let me show you the journey of what the humane society of San Diego can do when it comes to looking at that pet to come home with you. History of the San Diego Human Society As we all know, we must look first at the past of the humane society. San Diego is just one of many that are around and offer so many. The question is, where did they get there beginnings from? Well lets go back to March of 1880, when San Diego was still in it s beginning phases of growing. This was the start of the San Diego humane society. Looking that far back, you can see that even than the importance of animals were looked at. From that time it was the start of what would be a huge organization that was solely for the treatment of the animal. Primary elections are elections held previous to a Presidential election to decide upon the presidential candidate from the two main parties. These are held in each state, each of which then goes on to sponsor the winning candidate of their primary at the national convention, where the party s presidential candidate is announced. This method of choosing a candidate came about due to the McGovem/Fraser Commission of 1968 (where Mayor Daley refused McGovem the chance to run as he was too liberal). It replaced the old system of decisions being made in smoke filled rooms where party bosses were all powerful and made the decision. It weeds out the weak candidates, who will lose momentum along the way and fall out of the race. Those who cannot handle the campaign for the primary election, would not be cut out for presidency. A last advantage to the primary elections is that it gives a chance to candidates that would not otherwise be in the running for presidential candidacy. What may be an unconventional democrat /liberal who is unpopular within the party may prove a hit with the electorate and gain a lot of votes. The party will get the candidate who is most electable out of the options, even if this is not necessarily someone entirely in line with party ideology. Jimmy Carter, for example, was not widely known until the 1976 primaries when his distance from DC politics played to his advantage, as it meant that he was also distanced from the recent Watergate Scandal. This could also be seen as a disadvantage to the primary election, as it prevents the parties from expressing their wishes towards who the candidate should be, and thus an unworthy candidate may be chosen. Primaries could lead to someone with little experience of governance, or someone who is not representing the party ideal being put forward as candidate and the state parties could have no influence over this. Another disadvantage to the primary election is the pure monetary cost of the campaign. Candidates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead, she shows her deep understanding of plant biotechnology by explaining difficult scientific topics in conversational terms. It is unfair to say that the book is a light read, as it certainly requires concentration to grasp the difficult concepts like transposons and epigenetics. Fortunately, the book s co author Nancy Marie Brown helps elucidate confusion surrounding these topics. The two humped or Bactrian camel was native to central Asia and Iran and was used as a domestic animal from at least the third millennium BCE. onward. The one humped camel was native to Saudi Arabia. Physically the two species share resistance to thirst and to hunger, which probably explains the survival of both of these comparatively defenseless species in regions too arid or barren to support many predators. They differ, however, in their resistance to heat. The two humped camel has a long, shaggy coat during the winter and molts in the spring; one humped breeds have much less hair in their torrid native climate of Arabia (Oliver). It is reasonable to assume that two humped pack camels were used from the beginning by travelers along the Silk Road. Once they got to Mesopotamia, however, they must have suffered terribly from summer heat. Yet summer was the most likely time of arrival because the several month journey from northern China usually began in the fall, when the camels were in best condition after a summer of grazing (William/ Spielvogel 251). By the age of twenty years individuals affected with Duchenne dystrophy die. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance. The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is producing an affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male producing children, particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular dystrophy will be carriers; on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a genetic mutation in the gene, appearing most often for the first time in a family. Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both parents are carriers of the defective gene. For this reason the offspring have a 25% chance of being affected with both malformed genes, resulting in them being affected. The chance increases with cousin marriages. The ... Duffy has found through the study of wills that Catholic views were still seen in a large section of the population. However, Doran suggests that long and relentless government persecutions forced many Catholics from their faith. This would indicate that there is uncertainty as to the Catholic threat domestically and Murphy would certainly argue that due to the increasingly hostile situation in Europe that the bigger Catholic threat came from abroad. When the Elizabethan Church Settlement was created Elizabeth attempted to return religious policy to the way it had been at the end of Henry VIII s reign; there is also an indication the settlement was driven by a need for political expediency.
