Essay On Gladiator
Gladiators were fierce warriors not often afraid of death even though it was likely. Did you know the
death rate was about 17%? Although they were famous then and still are now, they had to start
somewhere.
Gladiators were, by definition, a professional fighter who specialised with particular weapons and
fought before the public in large purpose built arenas (Gladiator, Cartwright) Majority of fighters were
either slaves, former slaves, or condemned prisoners(Gladiator, Cartwright), although not all were
brought in chains (10 Things, Andrews). These warriors were often desperate men or skilled ex
soldier(10 Things, Andrews). Knights and even senators participated in these events to show off their
gladiatorial pedigrees(10 Things, Andrews). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Textbooks Prices
During the Spring semester of 2017, I completed my Applied Field Experience in the state s largest
student run nonprofit organization, New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG). I worked
on the Making Textbooks More Affordable campaign, which addressed the problem of prohibitively
high textbooks prices.
A survey that involved more than 2,000 college students in 33 states and 156 different campuses finds
out that average student spends $1,200 each year on textbooks and supplies alone, which equals to 39
percent of tuition and fees at a community college, and 14 percent of tuition and fees at a four year
public university (Bidwell, 2014). Moreover, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
the price of textbook has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, students still have to endure the excessively high price of textbooks. So, how to reduce the
price of textbooks fundamentally should be taken into consideration.
NJPIRG came up with the idea of Open and Affordable Textbook (OAT) Project since 2014. They
asserted that universities should found the project by letting professors adopting open and free
textbooks for their classes, so students can save money on textbooks. Open textbooks are defined as
textbooks have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed while
download for no cost. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and
universities to assess their quality (Open Textbook Library). Many colleges and universities in
America have successful open textbooks program for reference, including the University of
Massachusetts Amherst, Kansas State University, Tacoma Community College and the University of
Maryland, and so on.
After two years of effort, NJPIRG successfully persuade the Rutgers University to launch the OAT
Project to protect students interest. In spring 2017, the first cycle of the OAT Project was implemented
by Rutgers Library. According to the library, thirty two grants of $1,000 each were awarded to faculty
and instructors across the system who chose to adopt, remix, or create a free or low cost textbook, as
an alternative to traditional course materials (Rutgers

Evaluation of a Social Psychological Theory of Aggression...
Evaluation of a Social Psychological Theory of Aggression
One of the most influential approaches to aggression is the social learning theory approach, put
forward by Albert Bandura. According to this approach, most behaviour including aggressive
behaviour is learned. Albert Bandura believed that aggression is learned through a process called
behaviour modelling. He argued that individuals, especially children learn aggressive responses from
observing others, either personality or through the media and environment. He stated that many
individuals believed that aggression would produce reinforcements. These reinforcements can
formulate into reduction of tension, gaining financial rewards, or gaining ... Show more content on

He believed environmental experiences also had an influence on the social learning of violence in
children. He reported that individuals that lived in high crime rate areas were more likely to act
violently than those who lived in low crime areas. He also believed television was a source of
behaviour modelling. Today films and television shows illustrate violence graphically. Violence is
often expressed as an acceptable behaviour. Since aggression is a prominent feature of many shows,
children who have a high amount of exposure to the media may show a high degree of hostility
themselves in imitation of the aggression they have witnessed.
Bandura carried out a study on aggressive behaviour towards the Bobo doll. In the first stage of the
study, children who had observed an adult model attack a Bobo doll were divided into three groups.
Group 1 went straight into the playroom; Group 2 saw the model being rewarded for their aggression
against the doll, while group 3 saw the adult model punished. In the second stage of the study, after
the children had played with the doll, all the children were offered rewards to behave as the adult
model had done.
The results showed, in the first stage of the, group 3 children showed significantly less aggressive
behaviour towards the dolls than group 1 and 2. In the second stage of the study, there was no
difference between the groups in the

Laughter In The Birds
Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function,
Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling
The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the harm
and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy, a
specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter
within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present day. It
dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedy was purely satirical. At the time, humor was
found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has gone through
tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy from all those
years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the perfect
example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the comedic
element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day.
In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy, seeks
to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three ideas quite
clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it plays a huge
role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even suggesting that laughter
needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling statement: You would hardly
appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others. Laughter appears to stand in need of an
echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6). Throughout the book, Bergson brings up
his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of evolution. Laughter

Analysis Of The Poem The Ballad Of Jed Clampett
Originally named The Muleskinners, The Hamilton County Bluegrass band was founded by a group of
university students in Auckland in 1962.[9] For the young members, their first encounter with
bluegrass would be the theme song The Ballad of Jed Clampett from the television show The Beverly
Hillbillies. The show was one of the few American shows airing on New Zealand television at the
time. The Flatt and Scruggs theme tune and Scruggs style banjo influenced player Paul Trenwith, who
said that s how I wanted to learn banjo, and we found out there was a whole music genre that went
with that, so we chased that up. [10] Television was one of the key ways that the bluegrass genre was
and still is transmitted internationally. The dominance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The albums of the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band included typical bluegrass fare, recording covers
of genre pioneers Bill Monroe and Flatt Scruggs. Their concert repertoire included covers of bluegrass
standards such as Salty Dog Blues , Uncle Pen , Kentucky Waltz and Orange Blossom Special, a song
for which they became known for.[13] These songs referenced rural life and locations, whether
explicitly such as Kentucky Waltz or within the lyrics, referencing hunting or barn dances. In 1967,
the band performed Reno and Smiley s Barefoot Nellie, a song with rural themes and humorous lyrics
such as Nellie put on her Sunday dress Thought that it would look the best Made out of an old feed
sack Cow feed wrote on the back [14] Adopting an American accent, the recording of Barefoot Nellie
features high lonesome harmony and solos on the banjo, mandolin and fiddle, with band members
displaying virtuosic mastery of their instruments. These covers featured on their albums amongst
traditional songs and an assortment of their own original music, however much of their original music
didn t emerge until their 1971 album For You. Most likely due to the obscurity of the albums at the
time, there is little to no lyrical or musical information or description to be found regarding these
original recordings. The band also looked to other influences, recording their own interpretations of
popular songs, such

Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson Essay
Famed Confederate General Thomas Stonewall Jackson s legacy is hardly easy to define. His is most
remembered for cunning speed and brutality in battle and many consider him without equal. The same
strategies Jackson used in the Shenandoah Valley campaign were scrutinized by both Rommel and
Patton for inspiration in WWII. Jackson s personal discipline carried over into his command. Although
his men were often barefoot and near starvation, he pushed them forward into battle, not wishing to
sacrifice the element of surprise. Many of his battles were actually waged on Sundays which
contradicts Jackson s steadfast devotion to Christianity that many attribute to fanaticism.
As a Virginian, however, he felt more loyal to his state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After West Point, Jackson served in the Mexican American War where he would meet his friend and
future commander, General Robert E. Lee. When the war ended, he bounced from Fort Hamilton in
New York and Fort Meade in Florida. Eventually, though, he resigned his commission to accept a
teaching position at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia in 1851. During this time, he
married and lost a wife in childbirth and remarried again. If not for the onset of the Civil War, he may
have remained at VMI and most likely faded into obscurity. Jackson s first duty as an officer in the
Confederate States of America came from President Jefferson Davis who ordered him to organize
Harper s Ferry, the infamous site of John Brown s bloody raid in 1859. When Jackson arrived, he was
taken aback by the disorganization and drunkenness of the troops and immediately determined to
reestablish order. Jackson accomplished this task in less than a week and gained approval from
General Robert E. Lee. Jackson continued to establish order but was relieved of his command when
Jefferson Davis decided to replace him with Joseph E. Johnston because he felt Johnston held more
stature and military experience. Later, this would prove a mistake since the South was unable to hold
Harper s Ferry from the Union. Harper Ferry s loss of Jackson proved the battlefield s gain. Jackson s

Rhetorical Analysis Of Carrie Chapman Catt s Commencement...
The rhetorical essay has been a tradition in public speaking since Ancient Greece. Meant to persuade
an audience to believe an idea or to embrace a way of thinking, public speakers have utilized this
technique for centuries to inspire change in those who listen to it. Carrie Chapman Catt s
commencement speech to the 1936 graduating class at Sweet Briar College is a speech that
exemplifies the key devices and methods of persuasion in rhetoric, as well as inspiring her audience, a
girls only institution of higher learning, to work hard not only to improve their own lives, but to create
a world greater than their own for generations to come. Carrie Chapman Catt delivered a highly
effective commencement speech using the rhetorical devices logos, ... Show more content on

A large part of the pathos used is in the form of loaded language, which is used to make her audience
understand the severity of the oppression women faced during the Women s Century. Throughout her
address, Catt used the rhetorical device of emotional diction to continuously imprint upon the
audience a mixed feeling; disgust toward the mistreatment the women of that time faced, and
gratefulness for the change that suffrage leaders, like Carrie Chapman Catt herself, gave to the women
that sat in the audience the day she gave her speech. The words suffered, epithet, and humiliating,
were strategically placed at points in Catt s essay to add emphasis to her many emotional appeals to
her. Few instances of humor are used to make the tone of the speech less melancholic, in addition to
providing examples of the different ways women during that time discovered loopholes and
challenged the rigid rules and customs involving women. One anecdote that perfectly encompasses
this strategy pertains to a woman who attended town meetings in place of her husband, and discovered
that by starting her opinions with my husband thinks , she could bypass the social custom that women
could not speak in public. Although this is not an overly humorous story, it does aid in alleviating

Veroid Virus
A virulent virus is more severe, the cell of the living host is completely taken over by the viral
genome. Once inside the host cell, the viral genome replicates and kills the host cell upon exit. An
example of this is HIV. HIV is a virus that presents immunodeficiency, the immune system being
comprised results in a weakened ability to fight off infection. HIV is transmitted through blood and
some bodily fluids (NHS 2014). The virion RNA integrates with the host DNA producing replications
of the viral RNA, these replications form buds on the outer membrane of the host cell, these detach
from the host cell and find new cells to infect, the host cell is eventually destroyed.
High severity of a virus can cause major economic problems such as

Warner King Prince Research Paper
Prince has always believed that machines have changed music into something that doesn t sound real (
The Artist Formerly Known, 1997). He is an original, unique, and independent artist. Prince may also
be one of the most influential artists in the music industry because of his whimsical stage performance

When Prince was five he became interested in music because his father was the head of a swing dance

Armenian Genocide Report
Both articles consisted of two witnesses of the Armenian Genocide in their town. The first eyewitness
goes by the name of Zakar Kloian, who was born in 1900, in the Village of Darman, in Turkey. He
was a naturalized citizen of the United States, with a naturalization certificate issued to him by the
District Court of the United States. On May 15, 1915, all the townspeople were kicked out of their
homes from the Turkish gendarmerie. They were forced to travel on foot towards a destination they
were not familiar of. But several days later, a group of armed mobs attacked the group of Armenians,
which distracted the Turkish gendarmes from watching their group. This made an easy opportunity for
the group of Armenians to make an escape, which some of them did. Zakar was one of those people
who fled safely. The second article was also about a woman who experienced the massacre of the
Armenians. Khanum Palootzian, born in 1898, was also from the Village of Darman. ... Show more

survivors are still alive and telling people what horror they saw. I feel that if the United States and
other major countries of the world accept that the atrocities were done on the Armenians, this matter

the genocide happened, which it did, the Armenians will keep bringing it up year after year in the

Memoirs Of A Geisha Women
Whether or not they were formally recognized or praised, women have always played an integral role
in society. During the early twentieth century, the work of women gradually became more prominent
and previous beliefs on what was appropriate for women were challenged as more women began to
work for their own individual profit and prestige. This is seen in the 2005 film, Memoirs of a Geisha.
Directed by Rob Marshall, Memoirs is the story of how a young peasant girl, named Chiyo, rose up
through the ranks and earned profit and prestige as the geisha, Sayuri. As East Asian countries began
to interact and form relationships with European nations, they were exposed and sometimes adopted to
the new depictions of women that have emerged in the West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Schoppa states, From roughly 1917 1921, the emphasis on individualism and achieving individual
goals was greater than in any time in modern China s history. In a field that had been predominantly
male, Yuliang, as a female artist, challenged the norms that had characterized previous Chinese gender
roles. In her article, Jane Zheng asserts, in the new era, women were expected to use their artistic
talents in certain public roles rather than merely as entertainment for their husbands or for their own
amusement. In the film, Yuliang becomes a well respected painter during her time in Paris and, when
she returns to Shanghai, she is offered a job as an art professor. The achievement of being offered this
position as a woman shows not only her own personal social and economic success, but also how
Chinese women overall, during this time, became more involved in the public sphere and more
independent. Both Memoirs of a Geisha and A Soul Haunted by Painting demonstrate how women at
this time used both their bodies and their work to become successful in their respective societies.
Whether it was through the more traditional occupation of being a geisha or becoming an innovative,
provocative painter, they paved the way for women in the public

Pressure At A Young Age
Since I was in the seventh grade, pressure has always been a part of everything I have done. This has
stemmed from a variety of different sources, mostly standards that I set for myself. Without these
standards, I would never have become the person I am today. The lifestyle I live brings pressure along
with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike others, I was put under a
tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on the court. Pressure may be in
many ways, depending on the person going through a situation where it is present. For me, pressure is
when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot do. Unfortunately, many times, the issue
was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do something, rather than letting someone else do
it for me. This feeling was often a major factor in determining whether or not I wanted to do anything
outside of my comfort zone. Once I entered middle school, pressure began to set in. When I was in the
seventh grade, academics became more difficult, and the work load increased. However, as all of my
friends did, I signed up to play middle school basketball. I was very excited to play for a new coach,
who happened to be at the time Chris Wheelock. After the first week of practice, I was feeling very
good about my chances to be a key contributor to a good team, as well as feeling comfortable with my
coaches and teammates. Then, after one hard practice, I

Viewers Perceptions of On-Air Cursing Essay
This study used a 2 x 2 x 2 design to examine the effects of warning labels, bleeping, and gender on
viewers perceptions and enjoyment of a docu drama. We also examined the individual difference
variable of verbal aggressiveness to test for possible interactions. Overall, the warning labels increased
enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on
either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the
program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Lastly,
verbally aggressive participants perceived the program as more realistic, and the language as less

Another airing of the same program self censored (or quot;bleeped quot;) the profanity. Therefore,
although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered
norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive
norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels
and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the
current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring
on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings
and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will
consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations.

Although few studies on program warnings had been conducted prior to the 1990s (see, however,

by saying that I will call football, as it is known around the world, soccer. What is often classified as
American Football for this essay will be called football. Some of the controversies that have been
caused between the two are ones such as why is it called football when it s only one player on the
team is allowed to use his feet and is only done on small occasions?, which is more physical? and
issues as simple as which of the two requires more endurance. Most people may look at it one way
when there is also another way to view these two legendary sports as I call them. As there may be
differences between the two, there are also similarities. There are a lot of debates that goes on regards
with football and soccer. Some consider that soccer is another name of football while others may
argue that soccer is entirely different from football. In this paper a compare and contrast the two
famous games, football and soccer will help set a better understanding.
Football can be considered as the name for all the other sport where the players have to play with foot
and ball in order to score. There are a number of football sports such as association football, gridiron
football, and rugby football. Soccer is a commonly used name of association football. The sport that
was to become soccer was born in 1848, which is when the first formal set of rules was drawn up.

Across the range of decisions that groups make, group members need task, relational, and procedural
skills (Gouran, 2003). Problem recognition and framing must be identified first in order fro decisions
to be made. According to (Barge Keyton, 1994) a group cannot make a decision if its members cannot
identify the decision that needs to be made or if they frame a decision inaccurately or inappropriately.
In other words, group members have to agree upon what the decision is really about.
The stepladder technique is one strategy that teams can use to approach problem solving and decision

Industry concentration. It s imperative to choose if there s really a danger of a Monopoly, before the
anti trust law takes any action. For those new to the idea, or the individuals who have constantly heard
it was a terrible thing while never knowing why, a Monopoly is thorough control of the whole supply
of products or of a company in a specific region or market, as indicated by Merriam Webster. This
doesn t generally characterize Disney. Disney does not control the rights to all film, TV, and
amusement establishments, nor does it deliberately step out the opposition. Disney is pursuing the

Disney knows precisely what a crowd of people needs even before they even dream of it. So it bodes
well that Disney is using geek culture as its most up to date promoting apparatus. On the off chance

Men Women and Japanese American Intercultural Communication Analysis of the Mitsubishi Case
Introduction It was my first day in high school. Standing alone in the middle of the play ground
looking for anyone I know or can talk to, my eyes was searching all over the place. A pretty blond girl
standing alone was a scene that, for sure, attracted my attention then. The moment my eyes saw her,
my mind started thinking of ways to talk to her. After some time wasted thinking, I saw a girl I know
approaching the blond. Not willing to waste such opportunity, I marched forward toward them. We
had a nice chat through which I got to know the blond girl. She turned out to be a very nice and
friendly French girl who just arrived to Egypt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In April 1996, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a suit seeking

Men vs. Women The idea of different subcultures for males and females, although they live in the
same country, taught the same values, and eat the same food, is not new. Although men and women
live under the same conditions, they are expected to behave and respond differently. Thus as Maltz
puts it: The different social needs of men and women have led them to sexually differentiated
communication cultures, with each sex learning a different set of skills for manipulating words (Maltz,
p.200). Maltz explains this by saying that each one of us learns his communication culture through the
period of, approximately, age 5 to 15, when boys and girls interact socially primarily with members of
their own sex . Not only boys and girls learn to respond differently, but they learn, self consciously, to
differentiate, with exaggeration, their behavior from the other sex (Maltz, p.203). If we talk in terms of
Hofstede four dimensions of cultural differences, then American men culture could be described a
culture that

Pan Am flight 103 was just a normal routine transatlantic flight that took off from San Francisco and
was en route to London for its first layover. The flight took place on December 21st, 1988. Pan Am
flight 103 was on its transatlantic leg when it was blown into pieces by a bomb. The explosion killed
all 259 passengers on board and took 11 lives on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. Right after the
crash everyone believed it to be a terrorist attack. It took a three year investigation from the FBI until
they found the link to two Liberian nationalists. In 1999, Gaddafi finally handed over the two men for

The Boeing 747 took runaway 27R and began its route to New York Kennedy at 1825 hours Zulu, just
21 minutes after being pushed back from gate Kilo 14. When flight 103 took off they were tracking
the Burnham VOR. As they started to approach the Burnham VOR, the Boeing 747 changed to a

transmitted the aircraft s oceanic clearance but this transmission was not acknowledged (NTSB,

up two different trails of debris from the aircraft explosion. Some debris went as far as the east coast
of England. When the explosion occurred, the winds were between 250 degrees and 260 degrees and
were around 115 kts at FL 310. As the altitude decreased so did the wind strength. At FL 100 the

Sanbar Number Book Report
Behind every relationship, there lies a much more complex scientific explanation of the number of
friends one has. The Dunbar Number is the suggested limit to the number of individuals one can carry
a secure relationship with. Accordingly, this number is one hundred and fifty relationships, where a
person knows and appreciates every other person in this circle and how they relate to each other
within the circle. Although social media can acquaint one to individuals from a wide range of
communities, it does not have the capabilities of forming meaningful relationships, causing a limit to
the number of connections one can have. Nevertheless, the number was around in the past, is relevant

For instance, Harari talks about a gossip theory. In this theory, the Sapiens ability to talk about one
another behind each other s back is, believe it or not, essential for bands of people to work together.
This new skill meant that people could form new bonds of trust after they received reliable
information or gossip. Furthermore, this was how small groups of people turned into large tribes
because this use of gossip to form trust allowed for a tighter and more sophisticated type of
cooperation (Harari 24). One might ask, well how is this connected to the Dunbar Number? Well, the
number of people who can occupy a group has a clear limit. If the number of individuals exceeds the
natural limit, all social order could diminish. The limit of people in a group that has come together
through gossip is one hundred and fifty people. In other words, there is no one for someone to know
on an intimate level, or gossip about more than 150 people, which also happens to be the Dunbar
number (Harari 27). Outside of this hundred and fifty, everyone else is a stranger. Likewise, this
number as a form of cooperation can be witnessed in more recent history as

Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay
Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in
an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency,
decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of
health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an
important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is
very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite
considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics
health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now
kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical
history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of
medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow
patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email
access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of
information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake,

Society s Dependency On Technology
Today, technology is a ruling factor among our society.
Technology is involved in every aspect of our lives.
Our dependence on technology has been taken to a whole other level, we are now incredibly
dependent on technology.
We may be too dependent on technology, but our dependence does not necessarily impact us in
negative ways. II. Some say the increasing need for technology, specifically social media, causes
social isolation. Since so much time is spent on technology, these days, people tend to forget about the
outside world around them (Ramey).
Americans aged 18 and older spend more than 11 hours a day watching TV, listening to the radio or
using smartphones and other electronic devices (Richter). B. However, communication has been
greatly improved by advancing technology.
Because of technology, it has become more convenient to communicate with those we desire to speak
with much more often ( Benefits of Technology ).
Modern technology has made it simple to discover our old friends and discover new people to network

The Importance of Knowledge
In this article we ll try to shed some light on knowledge from Islamic perspective. Generally speaking,
the Arabic word for knowledge is ilm, which, in most cases, indicates to Islamic knowledge or matters
related to Sheree ah (Islamic Law). Although, some of the Quranic verses in this article refer to
Islamic knowledge, yet they are general in their meaning, and thus can be used to refer to learning in
general.
The importance of education is a none disputable matter. Education is the knowledge of putting one s
potentials to maximum use. One can safely say that a human being is not in the proper sense till he/she

At the battle of Badr in which the Prophet gained victory over his opponents, seventy people of the
enemy rank were taken prisoner. These prisoners of war were literate people. In order to benefit from
their education the Prophet declared that if one prisoner teaches ten Muslims how to read and write,
this will serve as his ransom and he will be set free. We can freely say that this was the first school in
the history of Islam established by the Prophet himself with all its teachers being non Muslims.
Furthermore, they were all war prisoners.
On the one hand Islam places great emphasis on learning, on the other, all those factors which are
necessary to make progress in learning have been provided by Allaah. One of these special factors is
the freedom of research. One example of it is that in Makkah, the birthplace of the Prophet dates were
not grown. Afterwards the Prophet migrated to Madeenah, the city of dates. One day the Prophet saw
that some people were atop the date trees busy in doing something. On being asked what they were
engaged in, they replied that they were pollinating.
The Prophet suggested them not to do so. The following year date yield was considerably very low.
The Prophet enquired them of the reason. They told him that

The Impact Of Western Imperialism In East Asia
Jun Woo Kang
Mr. Tirkey
IB MYP World History
April 29th, 2016
The western imperialism in East Asia begins with European interactions into what was at the moment
called East Indies. This began during the 15th century in search of trade routes leading to the Age of
Exploration of the European empires which were in the flourishing cultural and intellectual
developments with Renaissance. By the early 16th century, European merchants greatly expanded
Western European influence and established numerous trade posts with the countries in Asia,
benefiting the European countries economically. This trend originated from the Portuguese breaking
the monopoly of the Arabs and Italians of trade between Asia and Europe by the discovery of sea route
between the two continents. As a direct result, Western empires introduced their different ideologies to
the East such as their Christian beliefs, and their new weaponries. Before the Industrial Revolution in
the end of 19th century, demand for oriental goods such as spices, silk and tea remained the driving
force behind European imperialism, and the European dominance in East Asia endured with already
established trading posts between the two continents. However, industrialization dramatically ... Show

Theme Of Exile In The Seafarer

Relating to both The Seafarer and The Wanderer, The Wife s Lament also uses imagery to create the
theme of exile within its work. Here the poet uses spacial imagery by saying the valleys are dark, the
hills high (line 30). This use of spacial imagery depicts the image of the wife being separated from her
husband who abandoned her. Also as seen in both poems, The Wife s Lament also has the imagery that
has a cold feeling, relating to isolation. Visual imagery is shown in line forty eight saying, Under a
rocky cliff, rimed with frost (WL). All three of these poems relate to one another with similar types of
imagery in each work and also the feeling of coldness to portray the image of isolation and
abandonment. Within each of these poems, tone is used to build the theme of exile. In The Seafarer
which is set upon the sea, the speaker starts the poem off in a mourning and a tone of desperation. In
line twenty six, the seaman speaks of himself as, ..a soul left drowning in desolation (S) which means
he is anguished in misery or loneliness. Towards the middle of the poem the seaman has a tonal shift,
how my heart (line 33) where he is reflecting on how life could have been. In The Wanderer, the
warrior lost his king and describes himself as, lonely and wretched (line 9) because he has lost his

Although they were famous then and still are now, they had to start somewhere. Gladiators were, by definition, a professional fighter who specialised with particular weapons and fought before the public in large purpose built arenas (Gladiator, Cartwright) Majority of fighters were either slaves, former slaves, or condemned prisoners(Gladiator, Cartwright), although not all were brought in chains (10 Things, Andrews). • 3. The Problem Of Textbooks Prices During the Spring semester of 2017, I completed my Applied Field Experience in the state s largest student run nonprofit organization, New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG). I worked on the Making Textbooks More Affordable campaign, which addressed the problem of prohibitively high textbooks prices. A survey that involved more than 2,000 college students in 33 states and 156 different campuses finds out that average student spends $1,200 each year on textbooks and supplies alone, which equals to 39 percent of tuition and fees at a community college, and 14 percent of tuition and fees at a four year public university (Bidwell, 2014). Moreover, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the price of textbook has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, students still have to endure the excessively high price of textbooks. So, how to reduce the price of textbooks fundamentally should be taken into consideration. NJPIRG came up with the idea of Open and Affordable Textbook (OAT) Project since 2014. They asserted that universities should found the project by letting professors adopting open and free textbooks for their classes, so students can save money on textbooks. Open textbooks are defined as textbooks have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed while download for no cost. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality (Open Textbook Library). Many colleges and universities in America have successful open textbooks program for reference, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Kansas State University, Tacoma Community College and the University of Maryland, and so on. After two years of effort, NJPIRG successfully persuade the Rutgers University to launch the OAT Project to protect students interest. In spring 2017, the first cycle of the OAT Project was implemented by Rutgers Library. According to the library, thirty two grants of $1,000 each were awarded to faculty and instructors across the system who chose to adopt, remix, or create a free or low cost textbook, as an alternative to traditional course materials (Rutgers ... • 4. Evaluation of a Social Psychological Theory of Aggression... Evaluation of a Social Psychological Theory of Aggression One of the most influential approaches to aggression is the social learning theory approach, put forward by Albert Bandura. According to this approach, most behaviour including aggressive behaviour is learned. Albert Bandura believed that aggression is learned through a process called behaviour modelling. He argued that individuals, especially children learn aggressive responses from observing others, either personality or through the media and environment. He stated that many individuals believed that aggression would produce reinforcements. These reinforcements can formulate into reduction of tension, gaining financial rewards, or gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believed environmental experiences also had an influence on the social learning of violence in children. He reported that individuals that lived in high crime rate areas were more likely to act violently than those who lived in low crime areas. He also believed television was a source of behaviour modelling. Today films and television shows illustrate violence graphically. Violence is often expressed as an acceptable behaviour. Since aggression is a prominent feature of many shows, children who have a high amount of exposure to the media may show a high degree of hostility themselves in imitation of the aggression they have witnessed. Bandura carried out a study on aggressive behaviour towards the Bobo doll. In the first stage of the study, children who had observed an adult model attack a Bobo doll were divided into three groups. Group 1 went straight into the playroom; Group 2 saw the model being rewarded for their aggression against the doll, while group 3 saw the adult model punished. In the second stage of the study, after the children had played with the doll, all the children were offered rewards to behave as the adult model had done. The results showed, in the first stage of the, group 3 children showed significantly less aggressive behaviour towards the dolls than group 1 and 2. In the second stage of the study, there was no difference between the groups in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laughter In The Birds Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function, Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the harm and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy, a specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present day. This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the perfect example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the comedic element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day. In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy, seeks to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three ideas quite clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it plays a huge role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even suggesting that laughter needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling statement: You would hardly appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others. Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6). Throughout the book, Bergson brings up his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of evolution. Laughter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of The Poem The Ballad Of Jed Clampett Originally named The Muleskinners, The Hamilton County Bluegrass band was founded by a group of university students in Auckland in 1962.[9] For the young members, their first encounter with bluegrass would be the theme song The Ballad of Jed Clampett from the television show The Beverly Hillbillies. The show was one of the few American shows airing on New Zealand television at the time. The Flatt and Scruggs theme tune and Scruggs style banjo influenced player Paul Trenwith, who said that s how I wanted to learn banjo, and we found out there was a whole music genre that went with that, so we chased that up. The albums of the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band included typical bluegrass fare, recording covers of genre pioneers Bill Monroe and Flatt Scruggs. Their concert repertoire included covers of bluegrass standards such as Salty Dog Blues , Uncle Pen , Kentucky Waltz and Orange Blossom Special, a song for which they became known for.[13] These songs referenced rural life and locations, whether explicitly such as Kentucky Waltz or within the lyrics, referencing hunting or barn dances. In 1967, the band performed Reno and Smiley s Barefoot Nellie, a song with rural themes and humorous lyrics such as Nellie put on her Sunday dress Thought that it would look the best Made out of an old feed sack Cow feed wrote on the back [14] Adopting an American accent, the recording of Barefoot Nellie features high lonesome harmony and solos on the banjo, mandolin and fiddle, with band members displaying virtuosic mastery of their instruments. These covers featured on their albums amongst traditional songs and an assortment of their own original music, however much of their original music didn t emerge until their 1971 album For You. His is most remembered for cunning speed and brutality in battle and many consider him without equal. The same strategies Jackson used in the Shenandoah Valley campaign were scrutinized by both Rommel and Patton for inspiration in WWII. Jackson s personal discipline carried over into his command. Although his men were often barefoot and near starvation, he pushed them forward into battle, not wishing to sacrifice the element of surprise. During this time, he married and lost a wife in childbirth and remarried again. If not for the onset of the Civil War, he may have remained at VMI and most likely faded into obscurity. Jackson s first duty as an officer in the Confederate States of America came from President Jefferson Davis who ordered him to organize Harper s Ferry, the infamous site of John Brown s bloody raid in 1859. When Jackson arrived, he was taken aback by the disorganization and drunkenness of the troops and immediately determined to reestablish order. Jackson accomplished this task in less than a week and gained approval from General Robert E. Lee. Jackson continued to establish order but was relieved of his command when Jefferson Davis decided to replace him with Joseph E. Meant to persuade an audience to believe an idea or to embrace a way of thinking, public speakers have utilized this technique for centuries to inspire change in those who listen to it. Carrie Chapman Catt s commencement speech to the 1936 graduating class at Sweet Briar College is a speech that exemplifies the key devices and methods of persuasion in rhetoric, as well as inspiring her audience, a girls only institution of higher learning, to work hard not only to improve their own lives, but to create a world greater than their own for generations to come. A large part of the pathos used is in the form of loaded language, which is used to make her audience understand the severity of the oppression women faced during the Women s Century. The words suffered, epithet, and humiliating, were strategically placed at points in Catt s essay to add emphasis to her many emotional appeals to her. Few instances of humor are used to make the tone of the speech less melancholic, in addition to providing examples of the different ways women during that time discovered loopholes and challenged the rigid rules and customs involving women. One anecdote that perfectly encompasses this strategy pertains to a woman who attended town meetings in place of her husband, and discovered that by starting her opinions with my husband thinks , she could bypass the social custom that women could not speak in public. The lifestyle I live brings pressure along with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike others, I was put under a tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on the court. Pressure may be in many ways, depending on the person going through a situation where it is present. For me, pressure is when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot do. Unfortunately, many times, the issue was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do something, rather than letting someone else do it for me. This feeling was often a major factor in determining whether or not I wanted to do anything outside of my comfort zone. Once I entered middle school, pressure began to set in. Pan Am 103 By Max Gaines Pan Am 103 Max Gaines Middle Tennessee State University Abstract Pan Am flight 103 was just a normal routine transatlantic flight that took off from San Francisco and was en route to London for its first layover. The flight took place on December 21st, 1988. Pan Am flight 103 was on its transatlantic leg when it was blown into pieces by a bomb. The explosion killed all 259 passengers on board and took 11 lives on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. Right after the crash everyone believed it to be a terrorist attack. It took a three year investigation from the FBI until they found the link to two Liberian nationalists. In 1999, Gaddafi finally handed over the two men for trial. One of the men was sentenced to life in prison. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (NTSB, 1988) The Boeing 747 took runaway 27R and began its route to New York Kennedy at 1825 hours Zulu, just 21 minutes after being pushed back from gate Kilo 14. When flight 103 took off they were tracking the Burnham VOR. As they started to approach the Burnham VOR, the Boeing 747 changed to a heading of 350 degrees. They were then cleared up to FL 120 and then to their cruising altitude of FL 310. Once the Boeing 747 obtained their cruising altitude of FL 310, they were North West of the Pole Hill VOR about 26 minutes after takeoff. Approximately 7 minutes later, Shanwick Oceanic Control transmitted the aircraft s oceanic clearance but this transmission was not acknowledged (NTSB, 1988). During the second transmission, flight 103 disappeared from the radar. The radar then picked up two different trails of debris from the aircraft explosion. Some debris went as far as the east coast of England. When the explosion occurred, the winds were between 250 degrees and 260 degrees and were around 115 kts at FL 310. As the altitude decreased so did the wind strength. At FL 100 the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Sanbar Number Book Report Behind every relationship, there lies a much more complex scientific explanation of the number of friends one has. The Dunbar Number is the suggested limit to the number of individuals one can carry a secure relationship with. Accordingly, this number is one hundred and fifty relationships, where a person knows and appreciates every other person in this circle and how they relate to each other within the circle. Although social media can acquaint one to individuals from a wide range of communities, it does not have the capabilities of forming meaningful relationships, causing a limit to the number of connections one can have. Nevertheless, the number was around in the past, is relevant today, and will still be prevalent in the future. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Harari talks about a gossip theory. In this theory, the Sapiens ability to talk about one another behind each other s back is, believe it or not, essential for bands of people to work together. This new skill meant that people could form new bonds of trust after they received reliable information or gossip. Furthermore, this was how small groups of people turned into large tribes because this use of gossip to form trust allowed for a tighter and more sophisticated type of cooperation (Harari 24). One might ask, well how is this connected to the Dunbar Number? Well, the number of people who can occupy a group has a clear limit. If the number of individuals exceeds the natural limit, all social order could diminish. The limit of people in a group that has come together through gossip is one hundred and fifty people. In other words, there is no one for someone to know on an intimate level, or gossip about more than 150 people, which also happens to be the Dunbar number (Harari 27). Outside of this hundred and fifty, everyone else is a stranger. Likewise, this number as a form of cooperation can be witnessed in more recent history as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency, decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology is involved in every aspect of our lives. Our dependence on technology has been taken to a whole other level, we are now incredibly dependent on technology. We may be too dependent on technology, but our dependence does not necessarily impact us in negative ways. II. Some say the increasing need for technology, specifically social media, causes social isolation. Since so much time is spent on technology, these days, people tend to forget about the outside world around them (Ramey). Americans aged 18 and older spend more than 11 hours a day watching TV, listening to the radio or using smartphones and other electronic devices (Richter). B. Generally speaking, the Arabic word for knowledge is ilm, which, in most cases, indicates to Islamic knowledge or matters related to Sheree ah (Islamic Law). The importance of education is a none disputable matter. Education is the knowledge of putting one s potentials to maximum use. At the battle of Badr in which the Prophet gained victory over his opponents, seventy people of the enemy rank were taken prisoner. These prisoners of war were literate people. In order to benefit from their education the Prophet declared that if one prisoner teaches ten Muslims how to read and write, this will serve as his ransom and he will be set free. We can freely say that this was the first school in the history of Islam established by the Prophet himself with all its teachers being non Muslims. Furthermore, they were all war prisoners. On the one hand Islam places great emphasis on learning, on the other, all those factors which are necessary to make progress in learning have been provided by Allaah. One of these special factors is the freedom of research. One example of it is that in Makkah, the birthplace of the Prophet dates were not grown. Afterwards the Prophet migrated to Madeenah, the city of dates. One day the Prophet saw that some people were atop the date trees busy in doing something. On being asked what they were engaged in, they replied that they were pollinating. The Prophet suggested them not to do so. The following year date yield was considerably very low. The Prophet enquired them of the reason. They told him that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Impact Of Western Imperialism In East Asia Jun Woo Kang Mr. Tirkey IB MYP World History April 29th, 2016 The western imperialism in East Asia begins with European interactions into what was at the moment called East Indies. This began during the 15th century in search of trade routes leading to the Age of Exploration of the European empires which were in the flourishing cultural and intellectual developments with Renaissance. By the early 16th century, European merchants greatly expanded Western European influence and established numerous trade posts with the countries in Asia, benefiting the European countries economically. This trend originated from the Portuguese breaking the monopoly of the Arabs and Italians of trade between Asia and Europe by the discovery of sea route between the two continents. As a direct result, Western empires introduced their different ideologies to the East such as their Christian beliefs, and their new weaponries. Before the Industrial Revolution in the end of 19th century, demand for oriental goods such as spices, silk and tea remained the driving force behind European imperialism, and the European dominance in East Asia endured with already established trading posts between the two continents. However, industrialization dramatically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theme Of Exile In The Seafarer ia Johnson Mr. Saunders British Literature 28 September, 2017 Medieval Analytical Essay During the period of 449 1485 A.D. or also known as the Medieval Period, life was very socially structured causing distinct social classes and terms of isolation. The Medieval period can also be known as the feudalistic period meaning if a person grew up as a peasant, they would always be a peasant and nothing higher or lower. These poems by unknown authors have the related theme of exile, but also differences such as individual themes of exile embedded within the overall theme. Relating to both The Seafarer and The Wanderer, The Wife s Lament also uses imagery to create the theme of exile within its work. Here the poet uses spacial imagery by saying the valleys are dark, the hills high (line 30). This use of spacial imagery depicts the image of the wife being separated from her husband who abandoned her. Also as seen in both poems, The Wife s Lament also has the imagery that has a cold feeling, relating to isolation. Visual imagery is shown in line forty eight saying, Under a rocky cliff, rimed with frost (WL). All three of these poems relate to one another with similar types of imagery in each work and also the feeling of coldness to portray the image of isolation and abandonment. Within each of these poems, tone is used to build the theme of exile. In The Seafarer which is set upon the sea, the speaker starts the poem off in a mourning and a tone of desperation. In line twenty six, the seaman speaks of himself as, ..a soul left drowning in desolation (S) which means he is anguished in misery or loneliness. Towards the middle of the poem the seaman has a tonal shift, how my heart (line 33) where he is reflecting on how life could have been. In The Wanderer, the warrior lost his king and describes himself as, lonely and wretched (line 9) because he has lost his Lord, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It showed that the Germans were heartless. The battle of Dunkirk was a fight between Germany and the allies. The Germans trapped British and French armies on the beaches of Dunkirk. There were about 330,000 men that were trapped. The beach was unable to allow large boats to get near where the actual men were. Smaller boats were brought in where men boarded on and then soon after got transferred to a larger boat. There were about 800 little ships that were used to save these men that were trapped.
