review is Stonewall: The riots that sparked the gay revolution by David Carter. It was published by St.
Martin s Press, with a copyright date of 2004. I bought the book at Half price Books for $6.99 My
book s topic was the Stonewall riots in New York. The Stonewall riots were a series of impulsive,
violent protests by members of the gay community against a police raid that took place in the early
morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood
of Manhattan, New York City. They are widely considered to have established the single most
significant event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for gay rights in the
United States.
Very few places welcomed openly gay people in the 1950s and 1960s. Those that did were often bars.

The Theme Of Round About By Ogden Nash
Round About Ogden Nash s poem, Round About, expresses a clear theme of time. Humans value
every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second of time. Although humans existence is just a
spec in time, time is everlasting. It goes on forever. In that huge amount of time, humans only exist in
the smallest portion of it. Specifically, Ogden Nash uses plenty of repetition throughout the poem. For
example, round about (Nash 7), around (11), and again (20). Ogden Nash includes this repetition to
convey that time repeats itself. Never ending time keeps occurring. Each and every day is just like the
day before. Each morning one wakes up, once again. By repeating words that have to do with the
repetition of time, it gets in the reader´s head that time repeats itself. Nash also uses rhyme to convey
the theme of time. Some examples are, Past (3), vast (4), ring around (11), swing around (12),
astounded (37), and merry go rounded (38). By using these rhymes, Nash is hinting towards time
going around and around. He is comparing time to objects that have a circular motion, that showing
time is going in a continuous circle. For example, merry go rounds are fun rides that go around in a
circle. Time is being compared to a joyful ride that goes in a circular motion, and only in that motion.

that Muslims received throughout the poem, is more intolerant than tolerant, although there are a few
times where the tolerance between the Christians and Muslims can be seen. El Cid, takes from the
Muslims without question. His tactics for taking from them can be seen as inhuman as well as
extremely violent. The Muslims are also categorized with the cattle which demonstrates the level with
which the Christians thought of them as, He captured Moorish men and Moorish women, and all the

This generates the idea that the Christians created a negative depiction of the Muslim people solely
based on their religion and no other reasons. They only listen to the voice of Christianity and all others
are subordinate and need to be defeated. Religious intolerance is not only depicted by El Cid.
Hildegard also insinuates her intolerance towards other religions as well. Hildegard s letter all show
her reliance and praise on God. Through her visions she is able to share his wisdom and knowledge of
the holy church. Her letter to Bernard of Clairvaux provides the beginning of her ideas of intolerance.
Bernard of Clairvaux was a leading supporter behind the Second Crusade. The crusades are directly
correlated to intolerance. Although, writing to him does not necessarily suggest that she is intolerant
towards other religions, the statements that she says in her letter signify her support of the movement.
In later letters, she continues her appeal to the people she is writing too, that Christianity is the
religion that they must follow and she can help them with her visions. She suggests to the people who
seek her help, that God is the answer to all of their problems. They can be saved through the power of
God and she can help them achieve the answers they are looking for since she has a connection with
