How Did You Use Horizontal Integration
Social Studies MP4 Project on John D. Rockefeller
Q: What was your early childhood like?
A: Well, to start off, I was born in Richford, New York. Later as a kid when I was fourteen years old, I
moved with my family to Cleveland, Ohio. I began some small business ventures when I was sixteen.
My first real office job was an assistant bookkeeper with Hewitt and Turtle. Then, at age 20, I worked
as a commission merchant in hay, meats and other goods with a business partner.
Q: What was the start of your oil career life like?
A: I established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio in June 1870. Soon, my company was one of the
most profitable ones in Ohio. After a while, I decided to turn away from my other jobs and give all my
time and effort into my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not a process that happened overnight and it took lots of effort. As we got more successful, we
started buying out our competition. This is one of the main ways we created a monopoly. We were
even so prosperous, that our enemies, Pratt and Rodgers realized there was no point competing against
us, and proposed a secret deal with us to be acquired into our company.
Q: Why did you use horizontal integration?
A: Horizontal integration was one of the main ways that I succeeded. One of the ways that I used
horizontal integration was to buy railroads to ship my oil to where it needed to go for more money and
profit. I also bought out my opponents for more money and less competition. This is how I started my
monopoly.
Q: Can you tell us about your habit of giving away dimes?
A: Well, haha, later in my life I started carrying around a bag of dimes, and I gave one away to every
person I met. I loved seeing children get the brand new coin with the happiness on their faces. I
always told them that they should not spend it and put it towards their savings. In my whole life, I
gave away about $300,000 worth of dimes. This means that I gave around 300,000 different people
dimes in my whole life. So if I gave a dime to twenty different people a day, it would have taken me

Scholasticism And Biblical Symbolism In The Chartres...
During the gothic period, many philosophers started to embrace the theory of scholasticism. Scholastic
philosophy began to take root in schools all across Europe, and this exposure shaped the arts of that
period. From music to architecture, these philosophies changed the paradigms of the artists and the
audience. Religion still being the backbone of art in this time period, cathedrals began to take on these
different art forms and processes of the gothic era. Biblical Symbolism is a key to religious art and
architecture that teaches lessons and embraces catholic ideals. Chartres Cathedral, an icon for gothic
architecture, has a style that emulates this concept of symbolism that was shaped scholasticism. In the
analysis of the west façade of the Chartres Cathedral, one can recognize how scholastic philosophy
influenced and shaped the biblical symbolism and images shown in the Chartres Cathedral.
Scholasticism is the philosophical systems and speculative tendencies of various medieval Christian
thinkers, who, working against a background of fixed religious dogma, sought to solve general
philosophical problems. These problems included: faith and reason, potentiality and actuality, realism
and nominalism, and the provability of the existence of God. Initially under the influence of the
mystical tradition of patristic philosophy, and especially Augustinianism, and later under that of
Aristotle. Virtually all medieval philosophers of any significance were theologians, and their

Child Labor During The Second Industrial Revolution
During the Second Industrial Revolution many people were getting jobs because of the growing
industrialization. By the mid 1800 s child labor started to be a major issue. Child labor became a
bigger issue once machines in factories replaced hand labor. Starting in Britain and spreading
throughout Europe and North American many new business and factories started to open. When the
factories started to open they needed more workers for cheap labor. During the Industrial Revolution
child labor increased because of the need for cheap labor, the new inventions and technologies, and
the lack of workers. During the Second American Revolution there was a major increase in the use of
child labor. One of the main reasons child labor increased was because of cheap labor. On a typical
day the children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset. They worked eleven to twelve hours per
day, six days a week. Throughout the day they would get less than one hour for a break. On average
they earned about a dollar every week. Some of the children that were employed were as young as five
years old and were paid these low wages until the age of sixteen. ... Show more content on

owners justified their absence of payroll by saying that they gave the orphans food, shelter and

Describe and Evaluate the Negative Social, Cultural or...
Describe and evaluate the negative social, cultural or environmental impact caused by tourism in a
destination of your choice. Analyse the causes of this impact and judge to what extent sustainable
tourism strategies and methods could eliminate or ameliorate them and thereby secure the long term
future of the destination.
The negative effects of tourism are widely publicised in a number of destinations worldwide; however
it is often underdeveloped nations that are home to natural wonders of the world which attract huge
tourism levels. This is significant as these underdeveloped nations often rely on the tourist industry as
a main source of income and therefore a source of economic development. Increasing tourism levels

Accessed March 22 2010).
The environmental, cultural impact in the shape of damage to the temples can be explained by the way
the tourist experience is consumed in Angkor. The wearing of shoes and touching of the sculptures by
millions of tourists is causing huge erosion problems. We are very concerned by this unprecedented,
uncontrolled acceleration, which is damaging the monuments and the local environment. Teruo Jinnai,
UNESCO s top official in Cambodia ( Justine Smith (25th Feb 2007) Tourism invasion threatens to
ruin Angkor Wat, The Guardian, Accessed March 23).Passes to the ancient sites are sold in one day

Archaeological Park (n.d) Accessed March 25). Visible damage to the temples has arisen from large
numbers of daily visitors or short stays include congestion of facilities in and around the temples. It
can be argued that the cause of erosion and damage to the temples lies in economic and political
motivation of the Cambodian government to maintain and increase tourist revenue. The consideration
of thresholds and carrying capacity could to a great extent reduce such negative impacts as over and
consequent negative social and cultural impacts on the Angkor temples. Carrying capacity can be
defined as the maximum number of people who can use a site without an unacceptable alteration in
the physical environment and without an

Clarice Starling In Silence Essay
Even as the decades pass on and society is deemed by the public as becoming more progressive in it s
understanding of the Other, violence related to sexuality is a topic that continues to permeate horror
films. The subject of the horror/slasher genre begins to shift by the late eighties and early nineties on
the image of the serial killer. This shift changed the monster of the horror movie from a masked killer
wielding a phallic weapon to a representation of, as Mark Seltzer describes it, the monster among us.
It is through this shift that the Final Girl character is evolved as well, especially in terms of Jonathan
Demme s film The Silence of the Lambs. Clarice Starling in Silence can be classified as a Final Girl
due to her survival at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is seen clearly in the opening sequence where she walks through the academy and is being gazed
at by all of the men there. The film makes ample use of E. Ann Kaplan s theory of the male gaze, as
Clover points out that who is captured on screen is there in order to be identifiable in the audience,
that this identification along gender lines authorizes impulses toward violence in males and
encourages impulses toward victimization in females. The male characters, camera, and audience all
objectify Clarice as the film progresses, which places her a position that is understood to be passive or
submissive. Clarice subverts this idea through her position as an FBI trainee becoming involved in the
Buffalo Bill case and interviewing Hannibal Lecter. Her characterization is distinctly masculine in a
similar way to Laurie Strode s, she is levelheaded and resourceful and uses her planning skills to
gauge whatever situation she finds herself in. Thus the position Clarice inhabits changes from one of
passivity to one of action. Once the woman on screen becomes powerful, the audience s identification
switches to inhabit a masculinized female

Car Warranty
If your car had a warranty when you purchased it, it probably gave you some peace of mind. The
warranty might have even helped encourage you to purchase the car that you chose. Therefore, the last
thing that you probably want is to find out that your warranty is not valid later on when you need it.
For example, some people end up voiding their car warranties without even realizing it. These are a
few tips that can help you avoid issues with your car s warranty, however.
1. Keep Up With Your Car s Maintenance Schedule
For one thing, your car should have a manufacturer specific car maintenance schedule that lists when
you are supposed to have certain maintenance tasks done, such as changing the oil or flushing out the
fluids and replacing them. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This might be required by your warranty. Plus, someone who has experience in working with your
type of car can be more likely to be competent and to do a great job with the maintenance and repairs
of your vehicle.
3. Make Sure You Use OEM Parts
Another thing that you might be required to do in order to maintain your car s warranty is to replace
any parts that are faulty with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Even though you might
sometimes be able to save some money by choosing aftermarket parts instead of OEM parts, you ll
probably find that it s not worth the potential cost savings when it could put you in jeopardy of
voiding your car s warranty.
Luckily, in most cases, it s not too difficult to maintain your car s warranty. If you follow these tips,
you shouldn t have anything to worry about. Of course, different car warranties do vary, so if you have
any specific questions about your vehicle, it s a good idea to check your warranty information or to
contact your dealer or a certified mechanic who has experience in working on cars of your make and

Essay On Native American Equality
The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and
now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of
London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and
break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always
means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the
ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to
gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans
arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the
authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native
American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. The scientists did not give, and
appealed to the Supreme Court, but were refused. Now, with a change in the tide, the power rests in
the hands of the once overlooked Kumeyaay Tribe who assert, We ... Show more content on

people, who early Americans relied on, were not only persecuted, forced on reservations, but also
deemed merciless savages. The foundation of the United States was structured to be all inclusive for
those who built it, making them equal and others pushed into shadow. The white settlers gained their
freedom by turning the tides on Britain and now the Native Americans are, subtly, turning those tides

Freedom A Fatal Contradiction
In the PBS series, Freedom: A History of Us, journalist Katie Couric narrates the story of The United
States America. One of the episodes is dedicated to US s history with slavery, titled, A Fatal
Contradiction. Couric points out that although the US was founded on the ideal of personal freedom,
that at that time in our history that wasn t the case. Leading to the contradiction which is the
inspiration for the title of the episode. The reality is that there were four million slaves in the United
States, directly going against the concept of freedom that America was founded on.
American slavery started in colonial times. Northern ships would sail tobacco grown in the south to
England, trading for guns, textiles, among other things. From there they d set sail to Africa, trading
what goods they had for the bondage of some of the black population, even women and children.
Finally, the ships would sail back to the south of America to sell the slaves. The conditions on these

remove slavery were different, some wanted gradual reform others immediate, although they all
agreed that slavery was terrible. This led to the founding of two thousand groups with the intent of
spreading abolitionism. Of the population, there are three particularly worth noting now. William
Lloyd Garrison, the founder of the American Anti Slavery Society. He, was for immediate abolition,
speaking out against what he sees as unjust. Harriet Tubman, a black escaped slave living in
Maryland, who dedicated her live to helping others to escape as she did, partly through her use of
being a member in the Underground Railroad. Frederick Douglass, who himself was a slave in his past
and later wrote a book titled, Narrative of The Life of Frederick Douglass which became a key piece

Summary Of Margaret Atwood s The Victory Burlesk
Madeleine Davies had once said that Margaret Atwood s female bodies are inevitably coded bodies
that tell the story of the subject s experience within a political economy that seeks to consume them,
convert them into consumers in turn, shrink them, neutralize them, silence them, and contain them
physically or metaphorically. (Davies 60). In Margaret Atwood s short story, The Victory Burlesk,
Atwood is showing just that; Atwood is demonstrating how a woman is shrunken, silenced, and
contained. This short story is bringing attention to how people feel shame for women in realization of
reality, and how there is a focus on the Good Woman and the Bad Woman , how Bad Woman are
represented.
The Victory Burlesk is a story in which a woman is on stage and reveals herself as an elderly woman,
putting on a show for one another to watch, a show in which people in the audience began to feel
shame about. I could feel shame washing through me. (Atwood 20 21), there is a woman on the stage,
making herself vulnerable for everyone to see, and yet others are shameful in this situation. Why do
others feel shame? Because there is a realization that this woman is real. That that is a actual body up
there, one that no one wants to sexualize anymore due to her age and appearance. But also because
they are not properly showing the representation of how women are shown on stage. Difference can
make one feel uncomfortable, to the point they feel shame for another person. It was seen as if

This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix Arizona Analysis
In Sherman Alexie s short story, This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona we follow Victor and
Thomas along to their journey of change and revelation. Shortly after being laid off his job, Victor
gets the fatal news that his father, has died. Since Victor had been abandoned by his father at a young
age his character is negative, frustrated, angry, and confused. Having found out both things within the
same week made his outlook on life very pessimistic. Thomas, on the other hand, is the storyteller on
the reservation that nobody wants to listen to. He is lonely, positive, but has lived a sad life. After their
journey together, Victor finds out more about his dad s lifestyle and personality and builds a bond with
Thomas that would have never happened without the journey to Arizona. He goes from being
confused and angry, to happy and at peace with himself and his father. Thomas also experiences the
same emotions by the end of the journey. While they technically are not friends towards the end of the
story, they will be forever bonded by this journey and he helped his friendship with Victor get a little
deeper. Thanks to Thomas, Victor changes his perception of his dad and while doing so, helped
himself get close to someone from back at home. Author Sherman Alexie uses the journey to Arizona
to reveal and demonstrate change and the protagonist s lifestyle. While Victor lives a torn and
confused life because of his father s absence, his outlook on his father changes

Stacey took the blame for T.J. s cheat sheet. In my opinion, Stacey showed a big amount of courage

What Is The Theme Of Fire In Fahrenheit 451
As I came to finish the critically acclaimed book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, I noticed the author
repeatedly mentioning fire to symbolize various topics throughout the novel. Of course, fire was
referenced multiple times all throughout the novel because the main character, Montag, is a fireman
who burns books. However, in the beginning and the middle of the novel, Bradbury brought up fire to
represent Montag s suppression, while towards the end, he contradicts himself and uses fire to show
Montag s liberation and the hope fire brings. Even though the contradictory uses of fire confused me
at first, I then realized that the author was using it to contrast between how something thought to be
dangerous can act to be advantageous. The thought

Analysis Of John Locke s The Of The Golden Era Essay
During the course of history there has been brilliant men who have accomplished amazing feats that
help cement their names for centuries. Aristotle was a man who opened the gate to the world of
science. Marco Aurelius was a man with all the traits of a phenomenal thinker and leader, and so he is
regarded as the Emperor of the Golden Era . Leonardo da Vinci opened the door to the Renaissance
and William Shakespeare treated us to the best writings and plays in the English language. Likewise,
John Locke is a man who accomplished what many men could not. He single handedly developed a
political system that had a focus on liberty, his work would help influence many men from both sides
of the Atlantic. Aside from being a brilliant political theorist, Locke was an author who wrote many
outstanding writings. He is remembered as being one of the best English philosophers of all time, and
rightfully so. He was a man who opposed the unpleasant rule of absolutism and helped situate the age
of enlightenment as an intellectual movement that sought to solve, social, economic and political
problems. John Locke was born on August 29th 1632 in Wrington, Somerset in England. The son of
John Locke Sr, and Agnes Keene, Locke Sr was an attorney and clerk to the Justices of the Peace in
Somerset, who enjoyed his work despite being held in small respect . After his son birth, the family

Toward the end of that first week I got a stark lesson in politics. Tom Linton, Director of the Division

late in that first week he stopped by my office and asked if I wanted to accompany him on a visit to
New Hanover County Senator John Burney s office in the Legislative Building on the way to the bus

motorboat fuel tax to be assigned to his program for research and development. Burney was handling
the bill in the Senate. The door was open to Burney s office and he was standing with his back to us as
we walked in. Linton, in his usual hail fellow well met manner asked Burney how his [Linton s] motor

turned, faced Linton, stuck his finger at Linton s chest and said, Doctor, I asked you for a favor on a

Characteristics Of Beowulf
Beowulf: A True Christian Hero
A hero is someone who demonstrates acts of courage which is accompanied by a high moral character.
A Christian hero not only demonstrates these qualities, but they also stay true to the will of God and
demonstrate a sense of faith. This requires being selfless, obedient in faith, and most importantly
having tremendous courage. The character Beowulf, in the epic poem by the same name, presents all
these characteristics. Throughout the poem his character matures and ultimately becomes a better
leader, which makes these traits all the more present. Beowulf s quality of leadership and passion for
the well being of others truly defines a Christian hero. Exhibiting selflessness is a characteristics that
plays a great deal in how others perceive you. Beowulf was a type of leader that did not think twice
before helping those in need. In many cases he was willing to sacrifice himself for the better good of
his people, which is the ultimate act of selflessness. But in the very beginning, even before he was
king of his own land he exhibited his selfless nature. He did this by coming to the aid of Hrothgar, the
king of the Danes. The following excerpt, Beowulf kindness is revealed, When he heard about
Grendel, Hygelac thane was on home ground, over i Gretland. There was no one else like him alive. In
his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, highborn and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply
the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and seek out that king, the famous prince
who needed defenders. Nobody tried to keep him from going, no elder denied him,der as he was to
them. (Beowulf; lines 194 203). Beowulf went on to defeat of grendel and his mother, two monsters
ploughing Hrothgar and his people. This act gained him respect his selfless act blossomed into the
blessing of him one day becoming a king himself. Beowulf did not have to come to the aid of the king
but did so anyway. He, from the beginning, wanted to help anyone in need, no one could or would
stop him from accomplishing this goal. He sacrifice his life for the wellbeing of people who were in a
neighboring country, it goes to say that he would obviously seek to go beyond that for his own.

important to us and each has an understanding.
All of these are placed under the heading of normative ethics and also what that means is that are

Women in Athens Sparta
Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens
By: Tony Knuth
12/9/09
Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in
ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city
states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with
these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like
for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. Nevertheless,
researchers have dug through the chronicles of primary sources available in order to provide the most
accurate depiction of Greek women possible. Researchers generally start by ... Show more content on

In addition, CSUN Spartan women did not marry when they were of tender years, but [when] in their
full bloom and ripeness , allowing many of them to pursue their education for the same length of time
as modern students. They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance
art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and
writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men
to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be.
In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land.
In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of
women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or
through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it
would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s
ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic
world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them.
Athenian women s role was identical to that of Spartan women in respect to their importance in
reproduction. Thucydides states that Pericles encouraged procreation and saw a double

Essay On Fluid Consumption In Race
The third question to ponder is whether fluid consumption also impacts how much these extreme
distance runners can take in for nutrients? The first observational study led by Stuempfle, took place
in California, in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was a 161 km race and sixteen runners were recruited
to take part.3 Nutrient intakes were taken during the race. All participants were interviewed before,
during, and after the race. Also, a survey was sent out post race to make sure things were recorded
properly. Nutritionist Pro software is what the researchers used to figure out nutrient composition of
the food and drinks. This study found that race participants who finished the race consumed greater
amounts of fluid (19.8 L) earlier on than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be an important area to do additional research.
Limitations
One of major limitations of all the studies discussed is their dependence on questionnaires filled out
by the athletes, in some cases several weeks later.6 This can lead to inaccurate dietary recall. Most of
the studies did try to compensate for this by allowing the athletes to recheck what they had recorded
and make corrections, but it still leaves a lot of room for error.
Another limitation in these studies is there size. For the elite runners especially, you only have four5
and then three6 men s information recorded. Only one of the studies had over one hundred
participants.2
Conclusion
The answer to whether the athletes are consuming adequate nutrition is somewhat muddled. Based on
the current recommendations4 none of the athletes met all the macronutrient requirements; this would
suggest that the athletes are not getting the required nutrients. Unfortunately, several of these studies
show huge discrepancies in the amounts of macronutrients that recreational runners and the elite
runners consume.5,3 Elite athletes (who are running much faster) may need to consume greater
amounts of macronutrients, so closer to the current recommendations, but for the recreational athletes
(who are running much slower) a different set of guidelines based on their individual

Kellogg s Case Study
Question One:
There are three key sectors of the supply chain, namely; primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The
former encompasses all processes and activities geared towards transforming natural resources into
primary products which are then to be used in manufacturing finished products (Choi, 2011). For
instance, the forestry industry falls under the primary sector bearing in mind the fact that it focuses on
transforming a natural resource, i.e. trees, into a primary product (timber).
On the other hand, the secondary sector is concerned with transforming the primary products
generated from the primary sector into finished products. For instance, Kellogg s is a ... Show more

This gives a candid explanation as to why Kellogg s entered into an agreement with Tesco meant to
allow its products to continue being displayed in the latter s stores. Kellogg s collaboration with
tertiary sector entities can also be attributed to its allure in ensuring it continues to purport successful
business activities. For instance, maintaining good relationships with banks makes it possible for the
entity to acquire additional funds to finance its operations or investment activities (Leeman, 2010).
Question Four: The major benefit that can be realized from the decision of large manufactures like
Kellogg s to outsource some its activities to specialist companies like TDG is that of making the
former s supply chain and distribution channels to become more efficient. The achievement of this
objective is usually facilitated through the emphasis of these specialist entities to employ
computerized systems while purporting stock handling and logistic functions for their clients, with this
enhancing the timely and cost efficient delivery of stock in the larger manufacturers retail stores
(Choi, 2011). Moreover, these specialists assist larger firms such as Kellogg s to minimize the
wastages which normally occur within their supply chains, more so through streamlining their
transportation, distribution and storage systems (Leeman,

any mistakes. When she bows at the end, the judges discuss for a few minutes and then present her
with a 8.5. Not bad for her first routine. After saying a few thank yous she exits the rink and waits

is the figure skating. But several critics are now debating if it even counts as a sport. Figure skating is
a sport because it requires time and effort, people compete to strive, and it contains rules to be a sport.
First off, figure skating is a sport because it requires time and effort. Figure skating is called One of
the hardest sports by many commentators because it requires the skater to be graceful while trying to
not make a mistake. Many people say that Figure skating is just jumping and skating on ice but it is
much more. Figure skating requires the skater to get enough momentum to be able to control the jump

Consumer Decision Making Process
1.0 Introduction This piece of work is about consumer behavior on electric vehicle which included the
five stages of consumer decision making process such as Need Recognition, Information Search,
Evaluation on Alternative, Purchase Decision, and Post purchase decision. Lastly, the five different
concepts which made up by social cultural factors and individual factors. 2.0 Five Stages of Consumer
Decision Making Process 2.1 Need Recognition A problem is recognized when consumer found out a
difference between the actual state and a desired state (Consumer Behave, 2011). For instance, Joel, a

For instance, green marketer should position the EV as an environmental friendly and how it could
benefit the consumer and environment or position it in terms of quality, price and place. 3.2 Designing
Persuasive Message The message is the thought, idea, attitude, image, or other information that the
sender wishes to convey to the intended audience (Schiffman amp; Kanuk, 2010). Consumer may be
attracted by the message due to it is simple and straight forward. They wish to gain some information
through the message instead of looking at the image (Perner, 2008). Moreover, through the verbal and
nonverbal form, it can tell the consumer about the benefit of the car. Thus, the advertisement must be
written extensively on clear, and easy to understand data communication. For instance, the benefit of
purchasing an EV, low operation cost, zero emission, and the distance it can travel compared with
others (Autoblog, 2011). Refer to appendix 1.0 3.3 Product Positioning Product positioning is the
consumer perception of a product compared to its competition (Lake, 2011). Consumer may affected
by the product positioning while making decision due to they will compare the technology, price,
features, benefits, etc with other type of vehicle. Besides, this concept will help consumer to determine
the differences of the product (Ries amp;Trout, 2011). Thus, marketer has to effectively differentiate

The Battle of Lone Pine was an attack diverting the Turkish army allowing the ANZAC s to reach

Literature Review On Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation
Literature Review
Introduction
Every day, men and women suffer from a stroke, when the arteries that bring blood to the brain are
clogged, essentially suffocating the brain. This then damages the brain, leaving the victim unable to
walk or speak properly. Oftentimes, these stroke patients can become hemiparetic, meaning that part
of their brain was damaged, and half of their body became disabled or unusable. However,
neuroscientists and physical therapists have developed a way to train the gait of these hemiparetic
stroke patients, allowing them to walk properly again, using Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation(Cha,
2013, Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010, Schneider, Suh, Thaut, 2010). As brain plasticity is damaged
severely during stroke, therapists must consider increasing the plasticity of the brain using repetition,
which RAS utilizes(Cesqui, 2017, Gloag, 1985, Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010,Särkämö, 2008,
Schneider, 2010, Suh). Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation utilizes repetitive rhythms in order to develop
specific connections between the auditory and motor functions (Cha, 2013, Habib, 2009, McIntosh,
2010, Schneider, Suh, Thaut, 2010). The direct links between the auditory and motor functions
become critical in RAS, as the stimulation of the auditory functions directly benefit the motor areas of
the brain throughout RAS, benefiting gait in hemiparetic stroke patients (Cha, 2013, Gloag,
1985,Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010, Morris, 2009, Särkämö, 2008, Schneider, 2010, Suh, Thaut,
2010).

Then he achieved building the first pyramid by placing large series of stone on top of each other.
Arnold states, From the earliest 3rd dynasty step pyramids in Egypt that they were built with
accreditation walls or layers . [3] The accreditation layers were sloped inside at an angle. It was
probably done to provide structural durability. Each part of the pyramid between two steps is referred
to as a mastaba. Each accreditation wall or layer shaped one step of the step pyramid and defined the
base of the next mastaba by reducing the height of the wall layer by layer. [3]
Intended to hold his mummified body, Pharaoh Djoser s Step Pyramid at Saqqara began as a
traditional, flat roofed mastaba. But by the end of his 19 year reign, in 2611 B.C.E, it had risen to six
stepped layers and stood 62 meters high. It was the largest building of its time. Extensive use of stone,
wood, reeds, or other materials made the tomb more durable than its mud brick structure. The Step
Pyramid complex was enclosed by a 10 meters wall and included courtyards, temples, and chapels
covering nearly 40 acres (16 hectares) the size of a large town in the third millennium B.C.
As in earlier mastaba tombs, the Step Pyramid s burial chambers were underground, hidden in a maze
of tunnels. However the tomb was stolen, and only left from the third king of Egypt s 3rd dynasty,

Analysis Of Hills Like White Elephants

Final Essay: Hills Like White Elephants
Jig s Abortion through the Historical and Textual Lens I know you wouldn t mind it, Jig. It s really not
anything. It s just to let the air in (Hemingway 213). In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White
Elephants, an abortion is debated through subtleties, similes, and symbols. The abortion is never
explicitly mentioned, but instead Hemingway leaves the reader to conclude what this simple operation
really is (213). With no decisive decision on the termination of the pregnancy revealed at the
conclusion of the story, the reader is left to conjecture what decision, if any, Jig settled upon. Many
critics are resolute in their reasoning that Jig would have the abortion performed, but a smaller
population believes Jig decided to forgo the procedure. Through examination of the history of abortion
as well as Hemingway s personal history, his sympathy and respect towards women in Hills Like
White Elephants and other writings, and textual analysis of symbols and word choice, it is evident that
Jig resolves not to have the abortion. Abortion has been long been a subject of legal and moral
controversy. Today, abortion is legal in 75% on the world and no less controversial ( Abortion Laws
Worldwide ). In 1927, however, when Hills Like White Elephants was published, abortion was much
more restricted. In the United States nearly every state had antiabortion laws by 1910 (Doan 51).

Judith Plaskow Judith Plaskow began her study of feminism while pursuing a Phd at Yale and
continued on to cofound B not Esh, a Jewish feminist spirituality collective, as well as author many
theological books (Braude, 2004, pg 219). She grew up in a Reform Judaism household and as a child
focused on ethical monotheism , which lead to her study of the Holocaust and the development of a
self image of victimhood (2004, pg 220). It was Naomi Weisstein, a psychologist, who spoke to
Plaskow women s group at Yale that really spurred her to reconsider her own ambitions in life (2004,
pg 221). In her discovery of feminism, Plaskow felt that she was able to move past her self identity as

Christ is the main leader of the Goddess Movement, although she grew up in a rather conservative
Christian family (Braude, 2004, pg 97 98). Upon entering Yale, her political views were opposite

to the idea of a Goddess, rather than the male images of God she was accustomed to (2004, pg 102).
This Goddess allowed women to have an affirmation of their power, body and will (2004, pg 103).

All people have a particular idea of themselves. The idea of who they are and who they are not. The
way people lead an everyday life within an environment and interactions with other human beings
make them feel closer connected to some groups of people and different from others. How feeling

how membership of group can make us see differences and get to know who we are and where we

If there is no chance of changing identity due it was given to us race gender etc and people feel their

King Pyrrhus Epicus Battle
You have won the battle, but what has been lost? A Pyrrhic victory is when something in won, but
with great loss in order to do so. This term came from the King of Pyrrhus battle in Asculum, and his
quote: If I should ever conquer again in this fashion, it would be my ruin . This term can be used to
describe many battles throughout history, but it is important to understand the original Pyrrhic victory.
King Pyrrhus of Epicus had a great army, with noble reason to fight, but he was fighting too
formidable a foe. King Pyrrhus army was very large. It consisted of between 25,000 30,000 trained
individuals. This army included footmen, archers, slingers, horsemen, and elephants. Elephants had
never been used in battle against the Romans before, and they had likely never seen them. This army
won King Pyrrhus several battles, although in his battle in Asculum, where he defeated the Romans,
he lost many of his men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But unlike many men of this time, Pyrrhus was a kind ruler who treated his subjects well. King
Pyrrhus envisioned conquest of the Romans, because all others would fall after that, since the Romans
were the strongest nation. In a discussion with one of his diplomats, King Pyrrhus speaks of this. The
Romans, sir, are reported to be great warriors and conquerors of many warlike nations; if God permits
us to overcome them, how should we use our victory? to which King Pyrrhus replied, You ask a thing
evident of itself. Once the Romans are conquered there is neither Greek nor barbarian city that will
resist us, but we shall presently be masters of all

Friday night lights
There is a small town in Iowa. So small that everyone knows everyone. The town likes to prove on
Friday nights that size means nothing. It may be a small town but its football team is a traditional
powerhouse. They have won the state title 2 of out of the last 3 seasons. The team always seems to
have great talent and great relationships with each other.
The team has the talent to do great things again this year, but the relationship between the players isn t
been like what it s been the last few years. There not doing things together, getting in trouble, girls are
getting in the way of things, but most of all there haven t made any goals. The coaches tell them the

Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela...
Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela Cullington After reading Texting and
Writing, by Michaela Cullington, I do not agree with many of her viewpoints. Cullington argues that
texting does not affect a students writing. Textspeak, the abbreviation and shortening of words like
used when writing a text message, does affect the way a student writes because they use the
abbreviations, and their writings tend to lack punctuation. When a writer uses excessive abbreviations
on a regular basis they can get stuck in the writer s head causing them to use them in all of their
writings. Cullington did make good points of her own opinion on texting and writing in her piece, but
I disagree with her and believe that texting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cullington recalled a few examples that teachers found while reading papers, 2 instead of to, ; gr8,
instead of great, ; dat, in place of that, ; g2g, for got to go, ; hbu, instead of how about you, ; cuz, to
replace because, ; and wut, for what, . Textspeak is a dangerous way to write, and once a writer learns
and gets used to writing that way, writing papers for school becomes more and more difficult. A
common acronym is LOL which is an abbreviation for laugh out loud. The abbreviated for LOL would
not be acceptable for an academic paper. Our current generation needs to pay more attention when
writing, and to use correct spelling and not use acronyms to shorten their written ideas. Writing
College, Writing Life s article Learning the Language by Perri Klass talks about how some
professions require abbreviations, which is one of the few times it is accecptable. Abbrevaitons can be
helpful and an easy way to write a few words in just a few letters. Teachers do not like abbreviations
because the writer tends to assume the reader knows what each acronym means, the paper should be
and enjoyable read, not a confusing puzzle. While writing a paper for school teachers do not approve
of abbreviation and acronyms, the writer should just take his or her time to write our each word
correctly. Michaela Cullington believes that texting

The Number Devil Book Report
The Number Devil A Mathematical Adventure is a trade book by Hans Magnus Enzensberger that
talks about the dreams of a boy named Robert. Robert is a typical boy who is in an algebra course. He
hates anything involving numbers and feels intimidated any time that numbers are brought into the
equation so to speak. Robert begins to dream about a Number Devil who starts to teach him the ways
of numbers. Throughout the book, we see the transformation of Robert from a boy who hates working
with numbers to a boy who yearns to learn more about why mathematical properties are true. The
Number Devil slowly begins to introduce to Robert various tricks that he can use in order to solve
problems. The Number Devil begins slowly by talking to Robert ... Show more content on

He started to spend more of his time in doors trying to work out complex math equations and spent
less of his time outdoors doing the things that any boy his age does. While this occurs, the dreams
involving the Number Devil start becoming more complex and involved. Eventually, Robert has
become a very good mathematician and has access to the society of Number Devils . The story ends
with Robert wishing to continue on his journey to mathematical enlightenment. This book, based
solely on appearance, looks best suited for younger readers. Having read the book, I still feel that this
a very good book for younger readers based on the font size of the book and the added illustrations
present. However, some of the content presented in the book could easily be supplemented in an
advanced mathematics course in high school (such as Calculus). I feel that this is a very good book
that can be used in order to introduce younger students to various concepts in mathematics. In
addition, this book can also be used in order to differentiate instruction in more advanced math
courses. Either function is an effective use to teach students more about mathematics in my

How Merger Models Incorporate Managerial Accounting...
Cost Synergies: How Merger Models Incorporate Managerial Accounting Methodologies Introduction
According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary, a synergy is defined as a mutually advantageous
conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants or elements (as resources or efforts) .
When applied exclusively in a business context, synergies are realized improvements in efficiency, as
well as reductions in cost, resulting from the cooperation of two or more entities. These improvements
are derived from the elimination, and consolidation, of redundant activities and tasks between the
operations of disparate business units. In the following paragraphs, I will describe how and when
synergies are used to initiate certain business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supply chain management, human capital management, and a myriad of other functional areas have
become focus areas for synergistic analysis. These types of synergies are commonly referred to as
operating synergies. Conversely, financial synergies, such as debt capacity and tax benefits serve to
increase cash flow or reduce the firms cost of capital. Favorable operating and financial synergies
provide the justification to enact the reorganization of the business through merger activity. Despite
the importance of operating synergies to the organization s overall synergy strategy, this paper will
focus almost exclusively on the financial outcomes of such analyses. How are synergies achieved? In
a nutshell, all synergies can be expressed using the following rudimentary equation: 1 + 1 = 3 The idea
that the sum of the parts is greater than that of the individual components is the driving assumption
behind the synergistic approach to business reorganization. In today s corporate climate, synergies are
at the forefront of acquisitive growth strategies which attempt to supplement internally generated
(organic) growth with targeted acquisitions of existing entities or through business combinations. The
goal of these transactions is to achieve a return on investment that exceeds the returns generated by
each party prior to the deal. These returns can be measured in terms of cost reductions, increased
revenues, and in some instances a

The Emperor Of The King
After Otto had received the imperial crown at Rome (2 February, 962) Liutprand was often entrusted
with important commissions, in 963 when he was sent as ambassador to John XII at the beginning of
the quarrel between the pope and the emperor, owing to the former s alliance with Bérenger s son
Adelbert. Liutprand also took part in the assembly of bishops at Rome, 6 November, 963, which
deposed John XII. Liutprand describes from his point of view these events of 960 64, and sides
entirely with the emperor, condemning the Romans very harshly. After the death of the pope, Leo
VIII, Liutprand again went to Rome with Bishop Otgar of Speyer, as the emperor s envoy, to conduct
the election of a new pope, on which occasion John XIII was chosen. The Bishop of Cremona
undertook another mission to Constantinople by order of the emperor in the summer of 968 to ask the
Byzantine Emperor to bestow his daughter in marriage on Otto s son, later Otto II. In regards to the
Capitulary of the Missi, inhabitants of the district they administered had to provide for their
subsistence, and at times they led the host to battle. The missi were protected by a triple wergeld and
resistance to them was punishable by death. They were to execute justice, to ensure respect for the
king, to control the government of the military dukes and administrative counts (then still royal
officials), to receive their oath of allegiance, to let the king s will be known, at times by distributing

RFID System Analysis
Conventional passive RFID tags contain no internal power source, but instead harvest power from the
RF signal transmitted by the RFID reader system. RFID readers provide sufficient power in the
transmitted RF carrier signal to energize the tag circuitry through the coupled tag antenna. For a high
frequency RFID system, for example, the wavelength of the
13.56 MHz carrier is 22.12 m. The typical parallel resonant circuit of a tag antenna comprises the
inductance, resistance, and capacitance of the antenna loop (see Fig. 5) with resonant frequency.
Frequency = ଵ

In passive RFID systems, readers communicate with tags by modulating the amplitude, phase, or

Ultrasonic sensor is used to measure the distance between the vehicles and determine their speed
based on the mathematical formula: Average speed =

ሺtଶ−tଵሻ km/hr. The above formula gives us the average speed of the vehicle by taking the
parameters for the microcontroller from two different points. The data (distance and time) is subjected
to linear mathematical calculations to obtain the required entity. The equivalent code for the above
mathematical formulae and determining the distance between the two vehicles is shown in code box 1.
The data obtained via ultrasonic sensor are processed by the microcontroller and the resultant is being
displayed on the LCD display system.
The LCD Screens are placed on the turns where the visibility of the incoming vehicles is equivalent to

  • 2. How Did You Use Horizontal Integration Social Studies MP4 Project on John D. Rockefeller Q: What was your early childhood like? A: Well, to start off, I was born in Richford, New York. Later as a kid when I was fourteen years old, I moved with my family to Cleveland, Ohio. I began some small business ventures when I was sixteen. My first real office job was an assistant bookkeeper with Hewitt and Turtle. Then, at age 20, I worked as a commission merchant in hay, meats and other goods with a business partner. Q: What was the start of your oil career life like? A: I established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio in June 1870. Soon, my company was one of the most profitable ones in Ohio. After a while, I decided to turn away from my other jobs and give all my time and effort into my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was not a process that happened overnight and it took lots of effort. As we got more successful, we started buying out our competition. This is one of the main ways we created a monopoly. We were even so prosperous, that our enemies, Pratt and Rodgers realized there was no point competing against us, and proposed a secret deal with us to be acquired into our company. Q: Why did you use horizontal integration? A: Horizontal integration was one of the main ways that I succeeded. One of the ways that I used horizontal integration was to buy railroads to ship my oil to where it needed to go for more money and profit. I also bought out my opponents for more money and less competition. This is how I started my monopoly. Q: Can you tell us about your habit of giving away dimes? A: Well, haha, later in my life I started carrying around a bag of dimes, and I gave one away to every person I met. I loved seeing children get the brand new coin with the happiness on their faces. I always told them that they should not spend it and put it towards their savings. In my whole life, I gave away about $300,000 worth of dimes. This means that I gave around 300,000 different people dimes in my whole life. So if I gave a dime to twenty different people a day, it would have taken me 50 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Scholasticism And Biblical Symbolism In The Chartres... During the gothic period, many philosophers started to embrace the theory of scholasticism. Scholastic philosophy began to take root in schools all across Europe, and this exposure shaped the arts of that period. From music to architecture, these philosophies changed the paradigms of the artists and the audience. Religion still being the backbone of art in this time period, cathedrals began to take on these different art forms and processes of the gothic era. Biblical Symbolism is a key to religious art and architecture that teaches lessons and embraces catholic ideals. Chartres Cathedral, an icon for gothic architecture, has a style that emulates this concept of symbolism that was shaped scholasticism. In the analysis of the west façade of the Chartres Cathedral, one can recognize how scholastic philosophy influenced and shaped the biblical symbolism and images shown in the Chartres Cathedral. Scholasticism is the philosophical systems and speculative tendencies of various medieval Christian thinkers, who, working against a background of fixed religious dogma, sought to solve general philosophical problems. These problems included: faith and reason, potentiality and actuality, realism and nominalism, and the provability of the existence of God. Initially under the influence of the mystical tradition of patristic philosophy, and especially Augustinianism, and later under that of Aristotle. Virtually all medieval philosophers of any significance were theologians, and their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Child Labor During The Second Industrial Revolution During the Second Industrial Revolution many people were getting jobs because of the growing industrialization. By the mid 1800 s child labor started to be a major issue. Child labor became a bigger issue once machines in factories replaced hand labor. Starting in Britain and spreading throughout Europe and North American many new business and factories started to open. When the factories started to open they needed more workers for cheap labor. During the Industrial Revolution child labor increased because of the need for cheap labor, the new inventions and technologies, and the lack of workers. During the Second American Revolution there was a major increase in the use of child labor. One of the main reasons child labor increased was because of cheap labor. On a typical day the children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset. They worked eleven to twelve hours per day, six days a week. Throughout the day they would get less than one hour for a break. On average they earned about a dollar every week. Analyse the causes of this impact and judge to what extent sustainable tourism strategies and methods could eliminate or ameliorate them and thereby secure the long term future of the destination. The negative effects of tourism are widely publicised in a number of destinations worldwide; however it is often underdeveloped nations that are home to natural wonders of the world which attract huge tourism levels. The environmental, cultural impact in the shape of damage to the temples can be explained by the way the tourist experience is consumed in Angkor. The wearing of shoes and touching of the sculptures by millions of tourists is causing huge erosion problems. We are very concerned by this unprecedented, uncontrolled acceleration, which is damaging the monuments and the local environment. Teruo Jinnai, UNESCO s top official in Cambodia ( Justine Smith (25th Feb 2007) Tourism invasion threatens to ruin Angkor Wat, The Guardian, Accessed March 23).Passes to the ancient sites are sold in one day ($20), three day ($40) and seven day ($60) blocks, and visiting hours are 5:00am to 6.00pm (Angkor Archaeological Park (n.d) Accessed March 25). Visible damage to the temples has arisen from large numbers of daily visitors or short stays include congestion of facilities in and around the temples. It can be argued that the cause of erosion and damage to the temples lies in economic and political motivation of the Cambodian government to maintain and increase tourist revenue. The consideration of thresholds and carrying capacity could to a great extent reduce such negative impacts as over and consequent negative social and cultural impacts on the Angkor temples. Carrying capacity can be defined as the maximum number of people who can use a site without an unacceptable alteration in the physical environment and without an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Clarice Starling In Silence Essay Even as the decades pass on and society is deemed by the public as becoming more progressive in it s understanding of the Other, violence related to sexuality is a topic that continues to permeate horror films. The subject of the horror/slasher genre begins to shift by the late eighties and early nineties on the image of the serial killer. This shift changed the monster of the horror movie from a masked killer wielding a phallic weapon to a representation of, as Mark Seltzer describes it, the monster among us. It is through this shift that the Final Girl character is evolved as well, especially in terms of Jonathan Demme s film The Silence of the Lambs. Clarice Starling in Silence can be classified as a Final Girl due to her survival at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is seen clearly in the opening sequence where she walks through the academy and is being gazed at by all of the men there. The film makes ample use of E. Ann Kaplan s theory of the male gaze, as Clover points out that who is captured on screen is there in order to be identifiable in the audience, that this identification along gender lines authorizes impulses toward violence in males and encourages impulses toward victimization in females. The male characters, camera, and audience all objectify Clarice as the film progresses, which places her a position that is understood to be passive or submissive. Clarice subverts this idea through her position as an FBI trainee becoming involved in the Buffalo Bill case and interviewing Hannibal Lecter. Her characterization is distinctly masculine in a similar way to Laurie Strode s, she is levelheaded and resourceful and uses her planning skills to gauge whatever situation she finds herself in. Thus the position Clarice inhabits changes from one of passivity to one of action. Once the woman on screen becomes powerful, the audience s identification switches to inhabit a masculinized female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay On Native American Equality The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. • 10. Summary Of Margaret Atwood s The Victory Burlesk Madeleine Davies had once said that Margaret Atwood s female bodies are inevitably coded bodies that tell the story of the subject s experience within a political economy that seeks to consume them, convert them into consumers in turn, shrink them, neutralize them, silence them, and contain them physically or metaphorically. (Davies 60). In Margaret Atwood s short story, The Victory Burlesk, Atwood is showing just that; Atwood is demonstrating how a woman is shrunken, silenced, and contained. This short story is bringing attention to how people feel shame for women in realization of reality, and how there is a focus on the Good Woman and the Bad Woman , how Bad Woman are represented. The Victory Burlesk is a story in which a woman is on stage and reveals herself as an elderly woman, putting on a show for one another to watch, a show in which people in the audience began to feel shame about. I could feel shame washing through me. (Atwood 20 21), there is a woman on the stage, making herself vulnerable for everyone to see, and yet others are shameful in this situation. Why do others feel shame? Because there is a realization that this woman is real. That that is a actual body up there, one that no one wants to sexualize anymore due to her age and appearance. But also because they are not properly showing the representation of how women are shown on stage. Difference can make one feel uncomfortable, to the point they feel shame for another person. Aristotle was a man who opened the gate to the world of science. Marco Aurelius was a man with all the traits of a phenomenal thinker and leader, and so he is regarded as the Emperor of the Golden Era . Leonardo da Vinci opened the door to the Renaissance and William Shakespeare treated us to the best writings and plays in the English language. • 18. Characteristics Of Beowulf Beowulf: A True Christian Hero A hero is someone who demonstrates acts of courage which is accompanied by a high moral character. A Christian hero not only demonstrates these qualities, but they also stay true to the will of God and demonstrate a sense of faith. This requires being selfless, obedient in faith, and most importantly having tremendous courage. The character Beowulf, in the epic poem by the same name, presents all these characteristics. Throughout the poem his character matures and ultimately becomes a better leader, which makes these traits all the more present. Beowulf s quality of leadership and passion for the well being of others truly defines a Christian hero. Exhibiting selflessness is a characteristics that plays a great deal in how others perceive you. Beowulf was a type of leader that did not think twice before helping those in need. In many cases he was willing to sacrifice himself for the better good of his people, which is the ultimate act of selflessness. But in the very beginning, even before he was king of his own land he exhibited his selfless nature. He did this by coming to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. The following excerpt, Beowulf kindness is revealed, When he heard about Grendel, Hygelac thane was on home ground, over i Gretland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, highborn and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and seek out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders. Nobody tried to keep him from going, no elder denied him,der as he was to them. (Beowulf; lines 194 203). Beowulf went on to defeat of grendel and his mother, two monsters ploughing Hrothgar and his people. This act gained him respect his selfless act blossomed into the blessing of him one day becoming a king himself. Beowulf did not have to come to the aid of the king but did so anyway. He, from the beginning, wanted to help anyone in need, no one could or would stop him from accomplishing this goal. He sacrifice his life for the wellbeing of people who were in a neighboring country, it goes to say that he would obviously seek to go beyond that for his own. Heroism is ... • 20. Women in Athens Sparta Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens By: Tony Knuth 12/9/09 Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. Nevertheless, researchers have dug through the chronicles of primary sources available in order to provide the most accurate depiction of Greek women possible. Researchers generally start by ... They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be. In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land. In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them. Athenian women s role was identical to that of Spartan women in respect to their importance in reproduction. Thucydides states that Pericles encouraged procreation and saw a double ... The first observational study led by Stuempfle, took place in California, in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was a 161 km race and sixteen runners were recruited to take part.3 Nutrient intakes were taken during the race. All participants were interviewed before, during, and after the race. Also, a survey was sent out post race to make sure things were recorded properly. Nutritionist Pro software is what the researchers used to figure out nutrient composition of the food and drinks. This would be an important area to do additional research. Limitations One of major limitations of all the studies discussed is their dependence on questionnaires filled out by the athletes, in some cases several weeks later.6 This can lead to inaccurate dietary recall. Most of the studies did try to compensate for this by allowing the athletes to recheck what they had recorded and make corrections, but it still leaves a lot of room for error. Another limitation in these studies is there size. For the elite runners especially, you only have four5 and then three6 men s information recorded. Only one of the studies had over one hundred participants.2 Conclusion The answer to whether the athletes are consuming adequate nutrition is somewhat muddled. Based on the current recommendations4 none of the athletes met all the macronutrient requirements; this would suggest that the athletes are not getting the required nutrients. Unfortunately, several of these studies show huge discrepancies in the amounts of macronutrients that recreational runners and the elite runners consume.5,3 Elite athletes (who are running much faster) may need to consume greater amounts of macronutrients, so closer to the current recommendations, but for the recreational athletes (who are running much slower) a different set of guidelines based on their individual ... For instance, the forestry industry falls under the primary sector bearing in mind the fact that it focuses on transforming a natural resource, i.e. trees, into a primary product (timber). Question Four: The major benefit that can be realized from the decision of large manufactures like Kellogg s to outsource some its activities to specialist companies like TDG is that of making the former s supply chain and distribution channels to become more efficient. The achievement of this objective is usually facilitated through the emphasis of these specialist entities to employ computerized systems while purporting stock handling and logistic functions for their clients, with this enhancing the timely and cost efficient delivery of stock in the larger manufacturers retail stores (Choi, 2011). Moreover, these specialists assist larger firms such as Kellogg s to minimize the wastages which normally occur within their supply chains, more so through streamlining their transportation, distribution and storage systems (Leeman, ... • 32. Literature Review On Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation Literature Review Introduction Every day, men and women suffer from a stroke, when the arteries that bring blood to the brain are clogged, essentially suffocating the brain. This then damages the brain, leaving the victim unable to walk or speak properly. Oftentimes, these stroke patients can become hemiparetic, meaning that part of their brain was damaged, and half of their body became disabled or unusable. However, neuroscientists and physical therapists have developed a way to train the gait of these hemiparetic stroke patients, allowing them to walk properly again, using Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation(Cha, 2013, Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010, Schneider, Suh, Thaut, 2010). As brain plasticity is damaged severely during stroke, therapists must consider increasing the plasticity of the brain using repetition, which RAS utilizes(Cesqui, 2017, Gloag, 1985, Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010,Särkämö, 2008, Schneider, 2010, Suh). Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation utilizes repetitive rhythms in order to develop specific connections between the auditory and motor functions (Cha, 2013, Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010, Schneider, Suh, Thaut, 2010). The direct links between the auditory and motor functions become critical in RAS, as the stimulation of the auditory functions directly benefit the motor areas of the brain throughout RAS, benefiting gait in hemiparetic stroke patients (Cha, 2013, Gloag, 1985,Habib, 2009, McIntosh, 2010, Morris, 2009, Särkämö, 2008, Schneider, 2010, Suh, Thaut, 2010). ... It was probably done to provide structural durability. Each part of the pyramid between two steps is referred to as a mastaba. Each accreditation wall or layer shaped one step of the step pyramid and defined the base of the next mastaba by reducing the height of the wall layer by layer. [3] Intended to hold his mummified body, Pharaoh Djoser s Step Pyramid at Saqqara began as a traditional, flat roofed mastaba. It s really not anything. It s just to let the air in (Hemingway 213). In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, an abortion is debated through subtleties, similes, and symbols. The abortion is never explicitly mentioned, but instead Hemingway leaves the reader to conclude what this simple operation really is (213). With no decisive decision on the termination of the pregnancy revealed at the conclusion of the story, the reader is left to conjecture what decision, if any, Jig settled upon. Many critics are resolute in their reasoning that Jig would have the abortion performed, but a smaller population believes Jig decided to forgo the procedure. Through examination of the history of abortion as well as Hemingway s personal history, his sympathy and respect towards women in Hills Like White Elephants and other writings, and textual analysis of symbols and word choice, it is evident that Jig resolves not to have the abortion. Abortion has been long been a subject of legal and moral controversy. Today, abortion is legal in 75% on the world and no less controversial ( Abortion Laws Worldwide ). It was Naomi Weisstein, a psychologist, who spoke to Plaskow women s group at Yale that really spurred her to reconsider her own ambitions in life (2004, pg 221). In her discovery of feminism, Plaskow felt that she was able to move past her self identity as a victim and began to examine how her womanhood and Jewishness could contribute to the world (2004, pg 222). She began to connect feminism with religion along with her college friend Carol P. Christ and even asked Rosemary Radford Ruether to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christ is the main leader of the Goddess Movement, although she grew up in a rather conservative Christian family (Braude, 2004, pg 97 98). Upon entering Yale, her political views were opposite those of her childhood, however she was still treated more as a female body than a female person (2004, pg 99). Eventually, she was able to make life giving connections between herself and other women at Yale, such as Plaskow (2004, pg 100). Christ tried to find a religion that could nourish her soul, just as her friendships did, however, it was difficult to do so due to the deep embedded sexism in many religions (2004, pg 102). It was Starhawk, a now famous neo pagan, who first introduced Christ to the idea of a Goddess, rather than the male images of God she was accustomed to (2004, pg 102). This Goddess allowed women to have an affirmation of their power, body and will (2004, pg 103). Though she has found great success in her life as an author, Christ had struggled to find employment as a professor due to her not being Christian (2004, pg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way people lead an everyday life within an environment and interactions with other human beings make them feel closer connected to some groups of people and different from others. How feeling similarity and difference in society affects ability to attain a positive sense of self and meaning are an important questions within psychology. Theory of social identity constructed by Tajfel and psychosocial theory of identity created by Erik Erikson are two of theories which give answer to this question. Tajfel explained that only knowing u are part of group without intention to be in group or gaining something is enough for people to feel diversity which leads to discriminating of outgroup and prioritizing ingroup in order to highlight group s status. Tajfel showed how membership of group can make us see differences and get to know who we are and where we belong to by commiting to rules of group. The final stage is comparing own group with other ones. If there is chance of changing identity people tend to move from lower valuated to higher valuated group for example work position. If there is no chance of changing identity due it was given to us race gender etc and people feel their group is devaluated they can take an action. People try to creatively highlight positive characteristics of ingroup comparing to other groups. . The Romans, sir, are reported to be great warriors and conquerors of many warlike nations; if God permits us to overcome them, how should we use our victory? to which King Pyrrhus replied, You ask a thing evident of itself. Comment and Response to Texting and Writing by Michaela Cullington After reading Texting and Writing, by Michaela Cullington, I do not agree with many of her viewpoints. Cullington argues that texting does not affect a students writing. Textspeak, the abbreviation and shortening of words like used when writing a text message, does affect the way a student writes because they use the abbreviations, and their writings tend to lack punctuation. When a writer uses excessive abbreviations on a regular basis they can get stuck in the writer s head causing them to use them in all of their writings. Cullington did make good points of her own opinion on texting and writing in her piece, but I disagree with her and believe that texting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Textspeak is a dangerous way to write, and once a writer learns and gets used to writing that way, writing papers for school becomes more and more difficult. A common acronym is LOL which is an abbreviation for laugh out loud. The abbreviated for LOL would not be acceptable for an academic paper. Our current generation needs to pay more attention when writing, and to use correct spelling and not use acronyms to shorten their written ideas. Writing College, Writing Life s article Learning the Language by Perri Klass talks about how some professions require abbreviations, which is one of the few times it is accecptable. Abbrevaitons can be helpful and an easy way to write a few words in just a few letters. Teachers do not like abbreviations because the writer tends to assume the reader knows what each acronym means, the paper should be and enjoyable read, not a confusing puzzle. Cost Synergies: How Merger Models Incorporate Managerial Accounting Methodologies Introduction According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary, a synergy is defined as a mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants or elements (as resources or efforts) . When applied exclusively in a business context, synergies are realized improvements in efficiency, as well as reductions in cost, resulting from the cooperation of two or more entities. These improvements are derived from the elimination, and consolidation, of redundant activities and tasks between the operations of disparate business units. In the following paragraphs, I will describe how and when synergies are used to initiate certain business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supply chain management, human capital management, and a myriad of other functional areas have become focus areas for synergistic analysis. These types of synergies are commonly referred to as operating synergies. Conversely, financial synergies, such as debt capacity and tax benefits serve to increase cash flow or reduce the firms cost of capital. Favorable operating and financial synergies provide the justification to enact the reorganization of the business through merger activity. Despite the importance of operating synergies to the organization s overall synergy strategy, this paper will focus almost exclusively on the financial outcomes of such analyses. How are synergies achieved? In a nutshell, all synergies can be expressed using the following rudimentary equation: 1 + 1 = 3 The idea that the sum of the parts is greater than that of the individual components is the driving assumption behind the synergistic approach to business reorganization. In today s corporate climate, synergies are at the forefront of acquisitive growth strategies which attempt to supplement internally generated (organic) growth with targeted acquisitions of existing entities or through business combinations. The goal of these transactions is to achieve a return on investment that exceeds the returns generated by each party prior to the deal. These returns can be measured in terms of cost reductions, increased revenues, and in some instances a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Emperor Of The King After Otto had received the imperial crown at Rome (2 February, 962) Liutprand was often entrusted with important commissions, in 963 when he was sent as ambassador to John XII at the beginning of the quarrel between the pope and the emperor, owing to the former s alliance with Bérenger s son Adelbert. Liutprand also took part in the assembly of bishops at Rome, 6 November, 963, which deposed John XII. Liutprand describes from his point of view these events of 960 64, and sides entirely with the emperor, condemning the Romans very harshly. After the death of the pope, Leo VIII, Liutprand again went to Rome with Bishop Otgar of Speyer, as the emperor s envoy, to conduct the election of a new pope, on which occasion John XIII was chosen. The Bishop of Cremona undertook another mission to Constantinople by order of the emperor in the summer of 968 to ask the Byzantine Emperor to bestow his daughter in marriage on Otto s son, later Otto II. In regards to the Capitulary of the Missi, inhabitants of the district they administered had to provide for their subsistence, and at times they led the host to battle. The missi were protected by a triple wergeld and resistance to them was punishable by death. RFID readers provide sufficient power in the transmitted RF carrier signal to energize the tag circuitry through the coupled tag antenna. For a high frequency RFID system, for example, the wavelength of the 13.56 MHz carrier is 22.12 m. The typical parallel resonant circuit of a tag antenna comprises the inductance, resistance, and capacitance of the antenna loop (see Fig. 5) with resonant frequency. Frequency = ଵ ଶπ√ሺ L_ଶ∗Cሻ Hz.
