The Influence Of Algebra
Abstract
Modern Times has brought a wide range of systems and methods of mathematics. The beginning of
mathematics had focused on geometry and forms of mathematics, but then during the 16th and 17th
century, algebra started to be known and practiced. Mathematics begin to get more diverse in early
modern times. Throughout the history of algebra, many mathematicians were very focused on finding
solutions to problems and different methods to carry out mathematics. In early 19th century practices
makes mathematics was based on physical variables. People were concerned with abstract algebra
with situations involving applied mathematics or physics that had expanded to include abstract
algebra. These methods and techniques were able to influence what people do today in different areas
of life. Without algebra solving complicated equations would not be possible, or it would be more
complicated than what it is today. Algebra is a main part in what our world is today and without its ...

These methods and techniques were able to influence what people do today in different areas of life.
Different areas can include the art world, a lot of scientific research, and also the daily lives of the
people of the world and without algebra, many of these things would be either impossible or close to
impossible to finding the answers that we need today (IAC Publishing, LLC, 2017).
Daily Life. Algebra in daily life allows people to calculate things quickly and easily. Algebra allows
people to figure out different prices on common objects like food and clothing to what cellular
provider is cheapest per month. People can sometimes use algebra many times during the day and not
even realize. Algebra has made it easier for people today and allows for simple connections in life to

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Literary Analysis
When viewed holistically, one finds it evident that different paradigms are accepted throughout
different cultures and set the foundation for how life should be conducted. Heroes in literature play an
extensive role in the representation of such values. When delving into the monomyth, constructed by
Joseph Campbell, one may witness the perspective and moral code of the hero ,and marvel at the
means by which they overcome tribulation. Yet, ultimately, the ideals of the era are fortified through
example. The literary works of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight convey both cultural
and paradigm shifts in, one dimensional views of humans to a more complex understanding, from the
days when the Anglo Saxons ruled England to the Late Middle ... Show more content on

King Arthur and his knights cannot understand the magnitude of Gawain s individual change because
they did not accompany him on his journey. His company almost receives the news as a sort of jest as
they laughed loudly at the tale and insisted that that each knight should wear bound about him a
baldric of bright green. (Weston) Although is unintentional, his comrades are mocking his failure, and
are unable to relate to the hero. Ultimately, the medieval society, remains in a state of ignorance
because of what they value. The concepts of love, chivalry, and prestige obscure their view of the
bigger picture which involves trial and personal

Egalitarianism In The 1700s
Starting in the late 1700s there has been an adjustment in the various countries of the Middle East and
North Africa. It is a known fact that in these areas there is a hierarchy of tribal, ethnic, familial;
despite the weakening of the traditional social framework and the erosion of the status of the
traditional tribal, ethnic, and religious notables. While this is still true to this day there have been
many changes from the 1700s to the second colonial areas that have brought about new political
identities particularly the idea of nationalism and egalitarian ideology.
Reformers in Tunisia, Egypt, and the Ottoman Empire tried to institute constitutional reforms but the
economic collapse made this impossible. Many of the states thought that with the acquisition of
technology from Europe there would be revolutions and states ... Show more content on

However, this was not the case many states became impoverished and weak, and the governments had
to become even more reliant on European intrusion. (Rogan, 103) The idea of egalitarianism or
egalitarian ideology became important particularly in Tunisia. This idea came from the Sadiqi College
where young intellectual elites would be studying and benefited from the exposure to Western ideas.
Bashir Sfar believed that the French could benefit the lives of the Tunisians through rural colonization.
However, this idea did not get implemented and the official colonization left Sfar bitter and angry.
Sfar wrote about how France is a wealthy nation and can finance the installation of its citizens without
having to condemn anyone to starvation or flight. (Perkins, 60)

Through the use of effective verbal communication, utilizing the tools provided within this course,
one is able to strengthen the core of any organizational culture. The Marine Corps, among most other

##er Affect And Queer Temporality In Charlotte Bronte s...
Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a bold
social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy that riddled
Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a suppressed and maltreated
orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose husband needs her as much as,
possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface to be a tale meant to empower any
female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte Brontë deigns to shed, and its feeble
rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The
Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre , Carolyn
Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of Brontë s feminism do not embrace women who fail to fulfill
certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely, they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad
and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of
queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic
background, make her intolerably other in relation to the gender conforming, Angelo Saxon
characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death of Bertha represent Charlotte Brontë s
own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. A careful reading of Bertha, her actions, and the
reactions of the

Hitler s Powerful Leadership Essay
Hitler s Powerful Leadership
The setting was perfect as the people of Germany were primed and ready for any leader that would
tickle their ears with what they were wanting to hear. World War I was over (#4) and the people of
Germany were in an economic depression that crippled the country. The German mark had lost so
much value that it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. A good portion of the
youth in Germany were raised in fatherless homes. In an article written by Dr. Alice Hamilton, she
says this about Hitler s youth: They were children during the years of the war when the food blockade
kept them half starved, when fathers were away at the front and mothers distracted with the effort to

In Hitler s attempt to gain political control and power he used coercion through a process of force and
threats to influence people. Coercion is forcing people against their will to do what one wants them to
do. Although threats and force can change behavior, they usually aren t the best approach. The
recipient of the threats can counterattack, leading to an escalating cycle of hostility (Adler Elmhorst
421). Hitler and his Nazis threatened high treason resulting in death if people agreed with reparations
(Chambers et. al 937). Hitler formed and organized the SA (Street Army) police, and the SS, a select
group of bodyguards dressed in black, that helped to carry out his coercion practices on a national
scale. In order to maintain control on a national level, he needed to eliminate his opposition or those
who did not cooperate and stood in his way. Hitler admitted to 74 deaths; subsequent estimates raise
the figure to as many as a thousand (Chambers et. al 939). All of this terrorism was so he could
maintain control with a strong arm, even within his own circle of influence.
Hitler was also a master of using manipulation through a process of deception and propaganda to
influence people. Manipulation is tricking the other party into thinking or acting in the desired way.

They gave the audience hidden messages through their playful acting. The messages reflect our
society s values and conflicts in the face of an ever changing environment. For example, the title
Zootopia is a little misleading. It leads to the imagination of a place where everything is perfect; such
is the word, utopia, which sounds similar to Zootopia. In the movie, an innocent rabbit has big dreams
of making a better world, especially in the metropolitan Zootopia. It claims that every animal, whether
prey or predator, can harmoniously live together, but in fact are separated by invisible boundaries. In
the city itself, the hamsters live in a section while the larger animals live in another section. Our
generation is familiar with such stereotypes, and this movie addresses the issue, but in a humorous
manner; yet it does not make light of the matter. It teaches through humor, not to stereotype people of
a different ethnicity. According to Haesendonck (2015), humor is a device used to deal with complex
political and social issues. How the fox and the rabbit dealt with being treated differently is the whole
point of the story. It inspires the audience to ignore any stereotype and to become whatever they
choose to become great subliminal message. Along with humor, music plays an intricate part in

Changes In Joan Aiken s Short Story Third Wish
Joan Aiken short story, The Third Wish, takes place in the forest of Savernake. Mr.Peters is miserable
about life and wishes for a wife to be beautiful as the forest. Leita once was a swan until Mr.Peters
turns her into a human by a wish. She misses her sister and her old life in the forest. The Forest king is
a person that gives Mr.Peters the three wishes. The Forest king isn t really a substandard guy, but he
does try to depress the narrator and is disrespectful. By using description and feelings/emotions, Joan
Aiken creates the lesson that it takes some time to be use to change.
Change shines through the short story as a central issue impacting all characters in the story. Because
Mr.Peters is so caught up in wishes, he wishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The descriptive sentence, But I miss the old life in the forest, the cool grass the mist rising off the river
at sunrise and the feel of the water sliding over my feathers as my sister and I drifted along the stream,
shows that leita misses her old life in the forest with her sister (1). Mr.Peters is so desperate for wife
and doesn t realise that Leita is miserable and misses her old life. Aiken uses this descriptive imagery
sentence to show how miserable Leita is, as Mr.Peters turns her into a human. Her feelings/emotions is
not the only way she utilizes craft to thrive this idea. The description in the short story shows Leite s
miserableness. Aiken explains how miserable Leita is, even though she is inlove with Mr.Peters. They
feel miserable Leita, what is it? he asked, very troubled. This is my sister, she answered. I can t bear
being separated from her. Now he understood that Leita was really a swan from the forest, and this
made him very sad because when a human being marries a bird it always leads to sorrow (2). These
quotes show the similarities Leita and Mr.Peters are feeling, and makes them even more miserable.
Although some may agree that this feelings/emotions for each other is simply to allow the reader to
feel what kind of experience both of them are going through. The feelings/emotions Leita has for her
sister shows that clearly she misses her sister and her old life. The author also describes Leita in a way
that makes the reader feel miserable for her. Aiken uses feelings/emotions, This is my sister, she
answered. I can t bear being separated from her. to show Leita as dispirit and miserable (2). She is
portrayed as a miserable wife who misses her old life. This shows the pain Leita is feeling as a result
of the adeptness in her life. Along with the descriptive sentences, these feelings/emotions create Aiken

Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie...
Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain. The
story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very great things
in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life. Recently Hollywood
recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was drastically changed in many
ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these changes when the story was
already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all were added to the movie
because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the movie as easily. In the epic
poem Beowulf is made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie they show him as a dishonest
and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for
example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of him fighting the sea monsters he
remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to actually tell the people about this
incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs, when he first comes to Denmark he
messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he has an affair with a younger maiden,
this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t mention anything about Beowulf having
any dishonesty. Another major difference between the poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s
mother is never slain in the

Human Nature And The Mind
Human Nature and The Mind Human nature and the mind have been studied for ages. As humans, we
tend to think, feel, and act in certain ways that are often elucidated by nature and evolution. In fields
such as Psychology, Philosophy, and Science, human nature and the mind have been extensively
studied to develop theories about why humans act, think, and feel that way that we do. It is believed
by some that humans are born a certain way by nature. There are three ways that people tend to
believe humans are born: naturally good, naturally evil, or neutral. A Chinese philosopher named
Mencius is an example of someone who believed that humans are born naturally good. Mencius is
believed to be the most important figure in the development of Confucianism, right after Confucius
himself. Mencius wrote Man s Nature Is Good in the year Circa 300 BCE. This rhetorical piece argues
Mencius s views on the nature of man. Mencius not only believed that humans were born naturally
good, but also that they, ...with proper training, could become perfect (Austin 78). A Chinese scholar
named Hsun Tzu believed almost the exact opposite of Mencius. Although Hsun Tzu was a Confucian
similarly to Mencius, he did not share the belief that humans are born naturally good. Tzu actually
wrote a piece titled Man s Nature Is Evil in which he explains his argument. Tzu believed that humans
need structure, and that ...strict discipline could make human beings good despite their natural
inclinations

By using social media this way in the classroom, students can unite with other cultures and societies to

some families who would prefer to communicate the old fashioned or traditional way. For those

The Effects Of Agriculture On The Environment
Agriculture is very important, but it also harms the environment if not conducted carefully.
Agriculture is harming the quality of groundwater, the amount of nitrogen applied to the soil, and
causing runoff to go into the ocean . Agriculture is a human activity; it harms the carbon cycle and the
water cycle. Modern agricultural practices have started the process of agricultural pollution. This
process causes the degradation of the ecosystem, land, and environment due to the modern day
byproducts of agriculture. (Conserve Energy Future)
Agriculture contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gas emissions which disperse into
the air. According to Will Allen, green farmer extraordinaire, greenhouse gasses along with the
manufacture and use of pesticides and fertilizers, fuel and oil for tractors, equipment, trucking and
shipping, electricity for lighting, cooling, and heating, and emissions of carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide... make a huge impact on the environment. The end result can be between 25 and 30
percent of the U.S. s overall carbon footprint. The relationship between management of agricultural
and the Geoscience data, along with the results of global climate, will be discussed in the following
paragraphs.

Whilst I have worked very hard to attain the qualifications necessary for permanent employment with
the DEC, sadly, I am not suited to this type of work in a fulltime capacity because it negatively effects
my health to a point that I cannot manage.
I am so sorry to let you down.
I am happy to discuss my resignation further in person, but do not wish to elaborate in any greater
detail in writing.
I understand that my employment agreement will have terms attached to my resignation of which I am
not familiar. Please advise me what you would like me to do to give you time to find a replacement
and which causes you the least amount of disruption and inconvenience possible.
Kind regards,
Fiona Bell Whittaker

Compare My Last Duchess And The Farmers Bride
Marriage and the Natural World
When examining both Robert Browning s, My Last Duchess, and Charlotte Mew s, The Farmers
Bride, the reader witnesses the poems positions of marriage in the natural world. Within both works, it
is quite evident how each relationship is vastly different from the modern world, yet parallel it at the
same time. Whether it be: the interactions between the two people or the conditions of the marriage, it
is made more than apparent that both can be applied to modern conceptualizations of marriage.
Within My Last Duchess, the reader is introduced to the character of Alfonso, the Duke of Ferrara.
Throughout the poem, Alfonso is talking to an emissary about his late wife (Robert Browning, My
Last Duchess). He then goes on to discuss in detail about how his wife would flirt with every man she
saw, She had a heart how shall I say? Too soon may glad, too easily impressed; she liked whate er she
looked on, and her looks went everywhere (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). From this statement,
it is made apparent that Alfonso and his previous wife didn t have the greatest of relationships, this is
further segmented when he goes on to say that she held no respect for the influence he bore, She
thanked men good! But thanked somehow I know not how as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred
years old name with anybody s gift (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). Just from these two
excerpts alone, it could be assumed that Alfonso and the Duchess

Hurricane Sandy Annotated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliography: Should climate change be a concern because of Hurricane Sandy?
Haddon, Heather. Thanks to Sandy, Surging Interest In Climate Study. Wall Street Journal, 28 Oct.
2015, eastern ed. ProQuest. Accessed 4 Aug. 2017. This article discusses what changes are happening
now with Government spending on trying to improve flood protection from climate change. Haddon
says, States such as New York, California, Oregon and Washington have commissioned research on
how sea level rise can affect their communities, while North Carolina banned the studies from
informing coastal policies in 2012. There isn t an agreement in the U.S. Government yet that more
money needs to be spent on climate change. Surprisingly, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
believes that climate change is a problem, but he doesn t think that climate change affected the
damage done by Hurricane Sandy (Haddon 1). This was a short article and I was hoping for more
from the title. I might use two parts of this article to describe the amount of changes done to reduce
the effects of climate change since Hurricane Sandy.

Franklin Roosevelt Essay
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, (1882 1945), 32nd president of the United States. Roosevelt became
president in March 1933 at the depth of the Great Depression. He was reelected for three more terms,
and died in office in April 1945. He was a fascinating idealist whose confidence helped carry on the
American people during the strains of economic crisis and world war even though he had an attack of
poliomyelitis, which paralyzed his legs in 1921. He was one of America s most touchy leaders.
Though Roosevelt labored hard to end the Depression, he had not very much success. It was not until

Informative Speech On Human Trafficking
Dear ladies and gentlemen of the Human Services Committee,
My name is Brittany McClary and I am here on behalf of the Advocates for Victims of Human
Trafficking Non profit Organization. This organization is located here in Baltimore, Maryland, and
stands to combat human trafficking through prevention awareness, advocacy, and by assisting victims
with resources and services. First and foremost I d like to thank the committee for the honor to give
my testimony today and for considering human trafficking as an issue. I d also like to thank the
committee for inviting students as witnesses. I am here today as an advocate in support of bill S.178
Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015. I have been an advocate for victims within this
organization for the last 5 years ago. I was compelled to join when a dear friend of mine became a
victim after being deceived by a false job advertisement that promised more money and no previous
work experience. This one of the many recruitment tactics that traffickers use to lure victims. This for
a college student seemed like a dream, but for my friend it turned out to be a horrific nightmare that
she was lucky enough to escape and start the process of healing from. But for many victims they are
not able to do so.
The policy aims to protect victims of human trafficking by strengthening the services provided to
assist them. The bill includes many provisions that target specific issues within trafficking. One such

Never Let Me Go, starring Carrie Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield was previewed in
Chicago at the AMC 21 Theater on Thursday, September 16th, 2010. It was, as the website AV Club
put it, a film steeped in misery and despair. If you can handle that warning that this film is definitely a
downer and you re not likely to leave the theater humming a happy tune, there is much to recommend
in this effort from the director of Robin Williams One Hour Photo, Mark Rumanek. Rumanek is
known mainly for his direction of music videos, but, ironically, he and Ben Affleck are talking about

According to some reports, nearly 11% of women and 5% of men in the United States are currently
taking one or more anti depressant medications. These medications can truly be life savers, helping
people get through some of the most difficult times in their lives, and there is certainly no shame in
seeking a little help to get through a challenging period. However, most people are uncomfortable
with the idea of taking a mood altering, prescription medication for their entire lives. Some people are
concerned about the potentially unknown, long term side effects of anti depressants. Others just want
to experience life naturally, without any drugs. There are several factors you need to consider before
you make the decision to discontinue anti depressant therapy. First off, ask yourself if your depression
really has gotten better. How has your mood been, generally speaking? Has your appetite returned to
normal, or are you eating considerably more or less than you normally would? Are you sleeping
better? How is your social life? Make sure that your depression really has lifted and that you haven t
just learned to live with the symptoms of depression. If you ve been stable for at least six months, are
feeling confident, have a good support system in place, and have the desire to stop treatment, it may
be time to ask your doctor about stopping your anti depressant therapy. It is very important that you do
not just stop taking your medicine. Your body has gotten used to your medication and abruptly
stopping it could cause serious withdrawal symptoms, including dizziness, nausea, fainting, and even
a return of your depression. Your doctor will likely wean you off of your medicine by gradually
lowering your dose over a period of time, usually a few weeks to a few months. This can be frustrating
for some people who see depression as a chapter in their life that they are eager to close. However, by
following your dose

When Worlds Collide Essay
In the film When Worlds Collide , the answer to the question How did the American Indigenous
populations impact Spain (and vice versa)? was focused on the changes in wealth, class systems, and
the Spanish conquistadors intentions. The first topic covered in the film is how today s America and
today s world are heavily influenced by the culture, heritage, and history of the Mestizo race and their
Spanish counterparts. The video then explains that the Mestizo race came into existence after the
Spaniards had children with the Natives of the New World . Next, the film highlights the differences
between the cultures of the Spanish and the native indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica. One of the
differences between the two cultures was that the Mesoamericans had a close relationship with nature,

to suffer under the rule of the Spaniards, and the written pleas for the Spanish monarchs to enact laws

case for the mining of the silver mines, because the Spanish ruler (at the time of the discovery of the

Analysis Of The Crystal Gems Essay
Steven Universe is a TV show on Cartoon Network that centers around a fourteen year old human
gem alien hybrid named Steven and his three gem alien guardians who seek to protect the earth from
their home planet. His mother, Rose Quartz, led a rebellion group called The Crystal Gems against her
home planet to thwart their plans to colonize the Earth. Years later, she died giving birth to Steven. For
a children s show, it has covered many topics, including defying the gender norm, mental illness, and
abusive relationships. The relationship of two characters, Jasper and Lapis Lazuli, is a sensitive topic
of discussion among fans and critics alike. There are three points of view on the subject. They include
that Jasper is the abuser, Lapis is the abuser, and the relationship was mutually abusive. When
considering the characteristics that make a relationship abusive, and how the relationship is being
portrayed in the show, all the evidence points to Lapis Lazuli as the abuser. On the show, the alien
gems practice fusion, which is a process of combining the forms of two (or more) gems to form a
single entity. Fusions are usually used for combative purposes, but can symbolize many types of
relationships ranging to healthy and unhealthy. While Jasper and Lapis Lazuli s relationship was
neither romantic or platonic, their fusion is heavily implied to represent an abusive relationship. Jasper
is a muscular gem soldier who was born on Earth but fought on her home world s side of

Women In The Mummy
The movie I have chosen is The Mummy directed by Stephen Sommers. It takes place in the ancient
city of Hamunaptra. Hamunaptra is known for the ancient burial site for the sons of pharaohs and also
the resting place for the wealth of Egypt. There is were women in the movie. One of them were Anck
Su Namun which was the Pharaoh s mistress. The role she played was to be high priest Imhotep s

his priests attempts to resurrect Anck Su Namun, but just as the ritual was about to be complete,
Pharoah s soldiers stopped him and mummified his priests alive. Imhotep suffered the worst possible

his sarcophagus. If he were to be released from his sarcophagus, he would reborn as a walking disease

Stylistic Devices In Angel Islington s Cathedral
Stylistic Devices
Diction:
As Angel Islington dreams about the fall of Atlantis, he remembered that the huge waves were rising
and crashing over the city; the night sky was rent with forks of white lightning... the city trembled;
fires started near the great amphitheater and spread, quickly, through the city, defying the storm
(Gaiman 271). In Islington s strong diction such as crashing, trembled , defying it emphasizes the
terror and fear in the people as they watch their home collapse. Also, when watching the sky being
pierced with with white lightning and the fire defying nature, illustrates a suspenseful, fearful and
confusing tone in the Atlantean people and the readers because when first meeting the angel, he was
depicted as an ally to Door and Richard. Yet this passage reveals Islington watching from above as
Atlantis sinks beneath the waves adding a suspense and confusion tone that the angel may not be who
he says he is .

Causes And Effects Of Video Games
1 LastName Name Course Professor 5 December 2017 Video Game Addiction and Its Harmful Effects
Playing video games is a pastime that many children enjoy. It has been found that National surveys of
American youth ages 8 to 18 by the Kaiser Family Foundation ... found that in 2005, 49% of children
had a game console in their bedroom (Olson et al. 55). From this information, it can be assumed that
after school about half of the children come home and start playing video games. The duration of time
that children play these video games varies. In recent times it is estimated that, ...adolescent girls
played video games for an average of 5 h a week whereas boys averaged 13 h a week. (Gentile et al.
5). Gaming, therefore, has become more than just a fun activity, it has become an addiction. Addiction
can be defined as ... with an uncontrollable urge, often accompanied by a loss of control, a
preoccupation with use, and a desire to continue with the activity even though it creates problems
(Skoric et al. 568). These children feel the need to play video games, and it is taking over their lives.
This addiction to video games impacts many aspects of a child s life. As a result of this addiction,
video games cause difficulties at school, detrimental impact to relationships and teenage development.
There has been a link between poor school performance and difficulties at school with high usage of

A Girl Like Her shows the bullying done by Avery through a camera lens and what happens in Avery s
house through another camera lens. For example, according to theodysseyonline it says, the difference
between A Girl Like Her and other movies about bullying is that you see both sides to bullying: the
bully and the person being bullied. That means that in the movie it shows you what both the bully and
the victim have to go through. The author is trying to show the feelings of both roles: the bully and the
victim. Another reason why A Girl Like Her has so many point of views is because every character has
their own life story and way of seeing things so it would make sense to show each individual
characters point of view. For example it says in theodysseyonline, this movie allows you to understand
the reason for the bullying through the bullier eyes, and the true side of how a family feels when their
loved one thought suicide was the answer. The author is suggesting that if you want to learn the full
story you need many pov s to shape your understanding. That brings me to the conclusion that more
than one point of view helps you understand the characters story and learn about bullying. All in all,
this is how showing more than one perspective helps raise awareness for bullying and with suicide

The second wave, the Eastern Europe migration took place (1881 1924),this saw many Jews migrating
from Russia and its territories due to the political persecution that they received after the assassination
of, Czar Alexander II In 1881 for which the Jews were blamed , This lead to the deterioration of living
and working conditions for the Jews. Following the assassination, mass rebellions broke out and the
situation in Russia became anarchic and chaotic for everyone. Pogroms broke out everywhere, mainly
in the form of looting; some murders and rapes were also committed. Decades of persecution against
the Jewish population followed. This upheaval of anti Semitism coupled with deplorable economic
conditions was the reason 2 millions of Jews from Eastern Europe came to the USA
In addition laws were passed that punished the Jews for the pogroms. This led to restrictions on
Jewish landownership, prohibited Jews from living in villages, and the number of Jews studying in
secular schools was limited to 10% in the Pale of Settlement and 3 5% everywhere else. These laws
were strictly applied by the police, which lead to the Jews being embittered to the Russian society.
Subsequently In 1891, Jews were systemically expelled from Moscow in 1891

All quadrilaterals do, too, for the same reasons triangles do. Since triangles are essentially half of a
quadrilateral, the angles of a quadrilateral always add up to 360. This means that no matter what sort
you choose rhombus, trapezoid, or just a run of the mill square it will tessellate.
When it comes to the tessellation of pentagons, however, things are not so cut and dry. A regular
pentagon will not tessellate, as each of its angles is 108, and 108 x 5=540, meaning five pentagons
would not be able to join at one point. Four pentagons would also be too large to perfectly meet at a
vertex, as 108 x 4=432, and three pentagons would not be large enough, as 108 x 3=324; close, but no

However, there are fifteen types of irregular pentagons that have been found to tile the plane. These
classes of pentagons were discovered at different times, and below is a table containing the formula
for some of them. ∠A E denote an angle, and just simply A E denotes a side. The formulas have
different equalities, with certain angles equalling each other so as to properly make angle amounts that
factor into the 360 needed for tiling, and with different sides being equal or proportional to each other

Earlier the work was based on the specific requirements of the client and it was more of research
based but now the focus on research will be less and it will be more on general requirements.
Therefore the type of work would shift.
The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one
material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the
previous strategy because there was a strong focus on the purchasing function. We believe that in
order to maximize the SC Department resources in accordance with the new structure the positions
and functions of the people with the SC Department will have to be adapted to strengthen the
inventory management function of the company. There company could benefit from having one
person responsible for forecasting demand. Processes should be reviewed to ensure that the SC
Department has sufficient access to information in order to achieve this task. Re buying will also be of
utmost importance now in order to ensure that there is always sufficient inventory to maintain
production going.
Vendor Development.
A vendor base of 350 can prove very beneficial for Spartan. Such a large base of vendor proves that
Spartan has a good market reputation.

The Big Five Personality Traits
Of the Big Five personality traits, I scored highest on neuroticism. I compared myself to my friend.
My friend scored highest on extraversion. I scored lowest on extraversion, whereas my friend scored
lowest on agreeableness. I was somewhat surprised at my results that my friend received. However, I
was not surprised by my results. I am a typically anxious person, so I knew I would probably score
high on neuroticism. However, I thought my friend would score higher on agreeableness. I don t agree
with some of these because I believe that my friend falls a little higher on the agreeableness, while I
believe we both fall a little higher on the openness scale. I also believe there is more to a person s
personality than that. There are several ways in which the uniqueness of each individual can be
portrayed by just a few traits. A lot of times, trait psychologists use the Big Five to measure someone s
personality just because it s a simple, convenient way to do it. Another reason psychologists often use
the Big Five to measure personality traits is because it seems to capture every possible trait that there
could be in a person s personality. According to the book, it s easier to use the Big Five because it s
like a radio: would you rather have dozens of radio stations with decent sound or only a few radio
stations with amazing sound quality? Of course, most people would want the option of having a few
radio stations with the amazing sound quality. Therefore, trait

Class, Money, Pride and Happiness in Pride and Prejudice,...
Happiness can be defined in a plethora of ways such as good fortune, a state of well being, or a
pleasurable, satisfying experience. William Thackeray s Rebecca Sharp stated in the novel Vanity Fair
that she could be a good woman if she had five thousand pounds and she could dawdle about in the
nursery and count the apricots on the wall (VF 414). Marianne Dashwood of Jane Austen s Sense and
Sensibility says that she cannot be happy with a man whose taste did not in every point coincide with
my own (SS 15). Most importantly, Elizabeth Bennet of Austen s Pride and Prejudice states that she
would be happy with someone who has no improper pride and is perfectly amiable (PP 364). While all
of these novels give a glimpse into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right from the beginning we understand that Mrs. Bennet s motive is to marry off her 5
daughters(Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia) to eligible suitors, particularly Mr. Bingley.
Mr. Bennet, being a mixture of quick parts (7), is impartial to this and would rather not visit Mr.
Bingley as Mrs. Bennet alludes that it is customary for the father to visit any potential suitor before the
mother does. With this argument, we see that Mrs. Bennet s happiness is directly linked to the well
being of her daughters. We also see that Mr. and Mrs. Bennet s views of what s right for their
daughters are very different from each other with Mrs. Bennet doing whatever it takes to ensure the
happiness of her daughters while Mr. Bennet is not so proactive in this endeavor.
As the main protagonist of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet s views on happiness are very much
so connected to her sense of pride. Mary Bennet, one of the younger Bennet sisters, states that A
person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves (PP 21).
Throughout the novel we see that Elizabeth sees herself as a headstrong and sensible woman; one who
would never fall to the fallible feelings caused by love and society. She is much like another of Austen
s protagonists, Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility, who states at one point during the novel,
Sometimes one is guided by what they

Good English And Bad By Bill Bryson
Standard English In his article Good English and Bad , Bill Bryson focus on how English rules were
changed throughout history. He stresses that people should not worry about how to use English
correctly too much because English comes from Latin and it is not necessary to follow Latin rules in
English. While in the article Why Good English is Good for You , John Simon stresses how English
must be used in a proper way by following its rules. Simon believes that good English can express one
s idea clearly and people should spread it. Although Bryson and Simon have different perspectives on
the way how people use English, the requirement of standard English rules should vary depending on
different situations. The use of standard English rules should be variable depending on who use it,
such as immigrants in the United States. As we know, most immigrants native languages are not
English. When they communicate with other people in English, immigrants convey their opinions with
their merely familiar words. Perhaps they need to say several times so that they could express their
idea clearly. However, most of the time, native English speaker can easily comprehend immigrants
ideas by catching the main words and predict what immigrants want to say. In the article Why Good
English is Good for You , John Simon shows that Figure out is precisely what a listener or reader
should not have to do (532). In Simon s perspective, when people use correct grammar to write,

My Hero Essay
Flames shot twenty feet into the air. Drums blared, guitars strum, and one tear escaped my eye. This
was the greatest experience of my life, I was finally getting to see my hero, Paul McCartney. While
most kids of the generation look up to the the likes of Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande, I differ. My
hero has integrity, he stands up for what he believes in, even if it s not a popular opinion. Even better
is his ability to inspire, his lyrics and rhetoric make people change for the better. A true hero has the
ability to make people act, not by force, but because they want to.
It is not easy to stand up for what one believes in when he is criticised by the public or media. Being
able to stand against the regular cultural norms and do what is right is a strong identifier of integrity,
and that is what Paul McCartney does. The greatest example of this was in the late 60 s, when Paul
was a Beatle. This was the stadium era, a time for concert goers that was ushered in by The Beatles.
The unfortunate piece of the however, was the fact that this era still involved segregation. Paul and the
Beatles would not stand for this tolerance, the most amazing piece to keep in mind is that at the time
they were just teenagers. They showed integrity when after hearing that a concert of theirs would be
segregated they released this statement We never play to segregated audiences and we aren t going to
start now. I d sooner lose our appearance money, it s embarrassing to admit that these

Magellan s Failure
Jeremy Bravo once said, Great leaders don t set out to be leaders... they set out to make a difference. It
s never about the role. It s always about the goal. Although a remarkable navigator, Magellan never
chose to make a positive impact on his crew s lives. Leading a crew of young men gave him power to
abuse or use, but instead of showing these men a dedicated and concerned leader, Magellan led the
boys to a slow, painful death. Magellan was not worth defending in his last battle because he accepted
inhumane ship conditions within his armada, treated people terribly, and he never fully reached the
goals he promised the king. All of these failures as a leader explain why his crew refused to come to
his rescue. The most putrid part of Magellans s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men were riddled with fatigue and sickness on the boats, and when they staged a mutiny against
Magellan, he did not consider the cause of their complaints. Magellan never even returned back to
Spain alive to bear his failures. The passengers on Magellan s voyage should not have risked their
lives to save him, since he proved time and time again he was a cold hearted leader. After all, the best

Essay about Conflicts in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Joy Luck Club Conflicts Many Misconceptions and Delusions Conflicts play a crucial role in novels.
Without conflict, novels would be uninteresting and very dull. Conflicts are seen in many different
forms, as internal conflicts, when a character must deal with private problems, and external conflicts,
when a character must deal with problems originating from an external source, like another person or
society in general. Some common conflicts seen in other novels are person versus society, as in The
Scarlet Letter when Hester is forced to face her mistake of adultery due to the obsession of the
unforgiving town. An example of an internal conflict is present within Animal Dreams, when Cody
must decide where she belongs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waverly realizes that her mother is only an old woman... getting a little crabby as she waited patiently
for her daughter to invite her in (Tan 204). Waverly finally tells her mother about her life, especially
about Rich, and they begin to get along better. Both must sacrifice a little pride to make the
relationship work, but as they both do so, they grow closer and their relationship becomes stronger as
a result. The second prominent conflict visible within this novel is between Lindo and Suyuan. These
two women are supposedly best friends, yet their constant bickering and competition, which their
children deem as normal , seems to negate this fact. June, Suyuan s daughter, seems to know the truth:
Auntie Lin and my mother were both best friends and arch enemies who spent a lifetime comparing
their children (Tan 27). Waverly also agrees with June s observation of their mothers friendship,
simply stated as such: They were very close, which meant they were ceaselessly tormenting each other
with boasts and secrets (Tan 194). Lindo and Suyuan spent most of their time comparing their cooking
and their children, both believing that they were superior to the other. Suyuan and Lindo both believe
that their own cooking skills greatly exceed the other s. Lindo seems to be the best cook of the two of
them, considering that she learned to cook so well

It is a known fact that in these areas there is a hierarchy of tribal, ethnic, familial; despite the weakening of the traditional social framework and the erosion of the status of the traditional tribal, ethnic, and religious notables. While this is still true to this day there have been many changes from the 1700s to the second colonial areas that have brought about new political identities particularly the idea of nationalism and egalitarian ideology. Bashir Sfar believed that the French could benefit the lives of the Tunisians through rural colonization. • 9. ##er Affect And Queer Temporality In Charlotte Bronte s... Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a bold social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy that riddled Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a suppressed and maltreated orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose husband needs her as much as, possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface to be a tale meant to empower any female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte Brontë deigns to shed, and its feeble rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre , Carolyn Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of Brontë s feminism do not embrace women who fail to fulfill certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely, they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic background, make her intolerably other in relation to the gender conforming, Angelo Saxon characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death of Bertha represent Charlotte Brontë s own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. World War I was over (#4) and the people of Germany were in an economic depression that crippled the country. The German mark had lost so much value that it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. A good portion of the youth in Germany were raised in fatherless homes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Hitler s attempt to gain political control and power he used coercion through a process of force and threats to influence people. Coercion is forcing people against their will to do what one wants them to do. Although threats and force can change behavior, they usually aren t the best approach. The recipient of the threats can counterattack, leading to an escalating cycle of hostility (Adler Elmhorst 421). Hitler and his Nazis threatened high treason resulting in death if people agreed with reparations (Chambers et. al 937). Hitler formed and organized the SA (Street Army) police, and the SS, a select group of bodyguards dressed in black, that helped to carry out his coercion practices on a national scale. In order to maintain control on a national level, he needed to eliminate his opposition or those who did not cooperate and stood in his way. Hitler admitted to 74 deaths; subsequent estimates raise the figure to as many as a thousand (Chambers et. al 939). All of this terrorism was so he could maintain control with a strong arm, even within his own circle of influence. The messages reflect our society s values and conflicts in the face of an ever changing environment. For example, the title Zootopia is a little misleading. It leads to the imagination of a place where everything is perfect; such is the word, utopia, which sounds similar to Zootopia. In the movie, an innocent rabbit has big dreams of making a better world, especially in the metropolitan Zootopia. It claims that every animal, whether prey or predator, can harmoniously live together, but in fact are separated by invisible boundaries. In the city itself, the hamsters live in a section while the larger animals live in another section. Our generation is familiar with such stereotypes, and this movie addresses the issue, but in a humorous manner; yet it does not make light of the matter. She misses her sister and her old life in the forest. The Forest king is a person that gives Mr.Peters the three wishes. The Forest king isn t really a substandard guy, but he does try to depress the narrator and is disrespectful. The descriptive sentence, But I miss the old life in the forest, the cool grass the mist rising off the river at sunrise and the feel of the water sliding over my feathers as my sister and I drifted along the stream, shows that leita misses her old life in the forest with her sister (1). Mr.Peters is so desperate for wife and doesn t realise that Leita is miserable and misses her old life. Aiken uses this descriptive imagery sentence to show how miserable Leita is, as Mr.Peters turns her into a human. Her feelings/emotions is not the only way she utilizes craft to thrive this idea. The description in the short story shows Leite s miserableness. Aiken explains how miserable Leita is, even though she is inlove with Mr.Peters. They feel miserable Leita, what is it? he asked, very troubled. This is my sister, she answered. I can t bear being separated from her. Now he understood that Leita was really a swan from the forest, and this made him very sad because when a human being marries a bird it always leads to sorrow (2). These quotes show the similarities Leita and Mr.Peters are feeling, and makes them even more miserable. Although some may agree that this feelings/emotions for each other is simply to allow the reader to feel what kind of experience both of them are going through. The feelings/emotions Leita has for her sister shows that clearly she misses her sister and her old life. The author also describes Leita in a way that makes the reader feel miserable for her. Aiken uses feelings/emotions, This is my sister, she answered. I can t bear being separated from her. to show Leita as dispirit and miserable (2). • 14. Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie... Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain. The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life. Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulf is made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs, when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. Another major difference between the poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s mother is never slain in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As humans, we tend to think, feel, and act in certain ways that are often elucidated by nature and evolution. In fields such as Psychology, Philosophy, and Science, human nature and the mind have been extensively studied to develop theories about why humans act, think, and feel that way that we do. It is believed by some that humans are born a certain way by nature. There are three ways that people tend to believe humans are born: naturally good, naturally evil, or neutral. A Chinese philosopher named Mencius is an example of someone who believed that humans are born naturally good. Mencius is believed to be the most important figure in the development of Confucianism, right after Confucius himself. Mencius wrote Man s Nature Is Good in the year Circa 300 BCE. This rhetorical piece argues Mencius s views on the nature of man. Mencius not only believed that humans were born naturally good, but also that they, ...with proper training, could become perfect (Austin 78). A Chinese scholar named Hsun Tzu believed almost the exact opposite of Mencius. Although Hsun Tzu was a Confucian similarly to Mencius, he did not share the belief that humans are born naturally good. Tzu actually wrote a piece titled Man s Nature Is Evil in which he explains his argument. • 22. Compare My Last Duchess And The Farmers Bride Marriage and the Natural World When examining both Robert Browning s, My Last Duchess, and Charlotte Mew s, The Farmers Bride, the reader witnesses the poems positions of marriage in the natural world. Within both works, it is quite evident how each relationship is vastly different from the modern world, yet parallel it at the same time. Whether it be: the interactions between the two people or the conditions of the marriage, it is made more than apparent that both can be applied to modern conceptualizations of marriage. Within My Last Duchess, the reader is introduced to the character of Alfonso, the Duke of Ferrara. Throughout the poem, Alfonso is talking to an emissary about his late wife (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). He then goes on to discuss in detail about how his wife would flirt with every man she saw, She had a heart how shall I say? Too soon may glad, too easily impressed; she liked whate er she looked on, and her looks went everywhere (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). From this statement, it is made apparent that Alfonso and his previous wife didn t have the greatest of relationships, this is further segmented when he goes on to say that she held no respect for the influence he bore, She thanked men good! But thanked somehow I know not how as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). These medications can truly be life savers, helping people get through some of the most difficult times in their lives, and there is certainly no shame in seeking a little help to get through a challenging period. However, most people are uncomfortable with the idea of taking a mood altering, prescription medication for their entire lives. Some people are concerned about the potentially unknown, long term side effects of anti depressants. Others just want to experience life naturally, without any drugs. There are several factors you need to consider before you make the decision to discontinue anti depressant therapy. First off, ask yourself if your depression really has gotten better. How has your mood been, generally speaking? Has your appetite returned to normal, or are you eating considerably more or less than you normally would? Are you sleeping better? How is your social life? Make sure that your depression really has lifted and that you haven t just learned to live with the symptoms of depression. If you ve been stable for at least six months, are feeling confident, have a good support system in place, and have the desire to stop treatment, it may be time to ask your doctor about stopping your anti depressant therapy. It is very important that you do not just stop taking your medicine. Your body has gotten used to your medication and abruptly stopping it could cause serious withdrawal symptoms, including dizziness, nausea, fainting, and even a return of your depression. Your doctor will likely wean you off of your medicine by gradually lowering your dose over a period of time, usually a few weeks to a few months. This can be frustrating for some people who see depression as a chapter in their life that they are eager to close. However, by following your dose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The relationship of two characters, Jasper and Lapis Lazuli, is a sensitive topic of discussion among fans and critics alike. There are three points of view on the subject. They include that Jasper is the abuser, Lapis is the abuser, and the relationship was mutually abusive. When considering the characteristics that make a relationship abusive, and how the relationship is being portrayed in the show, all the evidence points to Lapis Lazuli as the abuser. On the show, the alien gems practice fusion, which is a process of combining the forms of two (or more) gems to form a single entity. Fusions are usually used for combative purposes, but can symbolize many types of relationships ranging to healthy and unhealthy. Learning how drastically a curved image represented on a non curved medium is changed never seemed as real to me in sixth grade geography as it did when learning that the image below is comprised completely of regular pentagons. In this exploration, I would like to learn more about how shapes tessellate. I will learn which shapes, regular and irregular, tile on a Euclidean plane, and how tessellations work on a hyperbolic plane. I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All quadrilaterals do, too, for the same reasons triangles do. Since triangles are essentially half of a quadrilateral, the angles of a quadrilateral always add up to 360. This means that no matter what sort you choose rhombus, trapezoid, or just a run of the mill square it will tessellate. When it comes to the tessellation of pentagons, however, things are not so cut and dry. A regular pentagon will not tessellate, as each of its angles is 108, and 108 x 5=540, meaning five pentagons would not be able to join at one point. Four pentagons would also be too large to perfectly meet at a vertex, as 108 x 4=432, and three pentagons would not be large enough, as 108 x 3=324; close, but no cigar. However, there are fifteen types of irregular pentagons that have been found to tile the plane. These classes of pentagons were discovered at different times, and below is a table containing the formula for some of them. ∠A E denote an angle, and just simply A E denotes a side. The formulas have different equalities, with certain angles equalling each other so as to properly make angle amounts that factor into the 360 needed for tiling, and with different sides being equal or proportional to each other so as to facilitate the shape being right for ... • 44. The Big Five Personality Traits Of the Big Five personality traits, I scored highest on neuroticism. I compared myself to my friend. My friend scored highest on extraversion. I scored lowest on extraversion, whereas my friend scored lowest on agreeableness. I was somewhat surprised at my results that my friend received. However, I was not surprised by my results. I am a typically anxious person, so I knew I would probably score high on neuroticism. However, I thought my friend would score higher on agreeableness. I don t agree with some of these because I believe that my friend falls a little higher on the agreeableness, while I believe we both fall a little higher on the openness scale. I also believe there is more to a person s personality than that. There are several ways in which the uniqueness of each individual can be portrayed by just a few traits. A lot of times, trait psychologists use the Big Five to measure someone s personality just because it s a simple, convenient way to do it. Another reason psychologists often use the Big Five to measure personality traits is because it seems to capture every possible trait that there could be in a person s personality. According to the book, it s easier to use the Big Five because it s like a radio: would you rather have dozens of radio stations with decent sound or only a few radio stations with amazing sound quality? Of course, most people would want the option of having a few radio stations with the amazing sound quality. Therefore, trait ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Class, Money, Pride and Happiness in Pride and Prejudice,... Happiness can be defined in a plethora of ways such as good fortune, a state of well being, or a pleasurable, satisfying experience. William Thackeray s Rebecca Sharp stated in the novel Vanity Fair that she could be a good woman if she had five thousand pounds and she could dawdle about in the nursery and count the apricots on the wall (VF 414). Marianne Dashwood of Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility says that she cannot be happy with a man whose taste did not in every point coincide with my own (SS 15). Most importantly, Elizabeth Bennet of Austen s Pride and Prejudice states that she would be happy with someone who has no improper pride and is perfectly amiable (PP 364). While all of these novels give a glimpse into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right from the beginning we understand that Mrs. Bennet s motive is to marry off her 5 daughters(Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia) to eligible suitors, particularly Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bennet, being a mixture of quick parts (7), is impartial to this and would rather not visit Mr. Bingley as Mrs. Bennet alludes that it is customary for the father to visit any potential suitor before the mother does. With this argument, we see that Mrs. Bennet s happiness is directly linked to the well being of her daughters. We also see that Mr. and Mrs. Bennet s views of what s right for their daughters are very different from each other with Mrs. Bennet doing whatever it takes to ensure the happiness of her daughters while Mr. Bennet is not so proactive in this endeavor. As the main protagonist of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet s views on happiness are very much so connected to her sense of pride. Mary Bennet, one of the younger Bennet sisters, states that A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves (PP 21). Throughout the novel we see that Elizabeth sees herself as a headstrong and sensible woman; one who would never fall to the fallible feelings caused by love and society. She is much like another of Austen s protagonists, Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility, who states at one point during the novel, Sometimes one is guided by what they ... • 46. Good English And Bad By Bill Bryson Standard English In his article Good English and Bad , Bill Bryson focus on how English rules were changed throughout history. He stresses that people should not worry about how to use English correctly too much because English comes from Latin and it is not necessary to follow Latin rules in English. While in the article Why Good English is Good for You , John Simon stresses how English must be used in a proper way by following its rules. Simon believes that good English can express one s idea clearly and people should spread it. Although Bryson and Simon have different perspectives on the way how people use English, the requirement of standard English rules should vary depending on different situations. The use of standard English rules should be variable depending on who use it, such as immigrants in the United States. As we know, most immigrants native languages are not English. When they communicate with other people in English, immigrants convey their opinions with their merely familiar words. Perhaps they need to say several times so that they could express their idea clearly. However, most of the time, native English speaker can easily comprehend immigrants ideas by catching the main words and predict what immigrants want to say. • 47. My Hero Essay Flames shot twenty feet into the air. Drums blared, guitars strum, and one tear escaped my eye. This was the greatest experience of my life, I was finally getting to see my hero, Paul McCartney. While most kids of the generation look up to the the likes of Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande, I differ. My hero has integrity, he stands up for what he believes in, even if it s not a popular opinion. Even better is his ability to inspire, his lyrics and rhetoric make people change for the better. A true hero has the ability to make people act, not by force, but because they want to. It is not easy to stand up for what one believes in when he is criticised by the public or media. Being able to stand against the regular cultural norms and do what is right is a strong identifier of integrity, and that is what Paul McCartney does. The greatest example of this was in the late 60 s, when Paul was a Beatle. This was the stadium era, a time for concert goers that was ushered in by The Beatles. The unfortunate piece of the however, was the fact that this era still involved segregation. Paul and the Beatles would not stand for this tolerance, the most amazing piece to keep in mind is that at the time they were just teenagers. They showed integrity when after hearing that a concert of theirs would be segregated they released this statement We never play to segregated audiences and we aren t going to start now. Although a remarkable navigator, Magellan never chose to make a positive impact on his crew s lives. Leading a crew of young men gave him power to abuse or use, but instead of showing these men a dedicated and concerned leader, Magellan led the boys to a slow, painful death. Magellan was not worth defending in his last battle because he accepted inhumane ship conditions within his armada, treated people terribly, and he never fully reached the goals he promised the king. • 51. Essay about Conflicts in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club Joy Luck Club Conflicts Many Misconceptions and Delusions Conflicts play a crucial role in novels. Without conflict, novels would be uninteresting and very dull. Conflicts are seen in many different forms, as internal conflicts, when a character must deal with private problems, and external conflicts, when a character must deal with problems originating from an external source, like another person or society in general. Some common conflicts seen in other novels are person versus society, as in The Scarlet Letter when Hester is forced to face her mistake of adultery due to the obsession of the unforgiving town. Waverly realizes that her mother is only an old woman... getting a little crabby as she waited patiently for her daughter to invite her in (Tan 204). Waverly finally tells her mother about her life, especially about Rich, and they begin to get along better. Both must sacrifice a little pride to make the relationship work, but as they both do so, they grow closer and their relationship becomes stronger as a result. The second prominent conflict visible within this novel is between Lindo and Suyuan. These two women are supposedly best friends, yet their constant bickering and competition, which their children deem as normal , seems to negate this fact. June, Suyuan s daughter, seems to know the truth: Auntie Lin and my mother were both best friends and arch enemies who spent a lifetime comparing their children (Tan 27). Waverly also agrees with June s observation of their mothers friendship, simply stated as such: They were very close, which meant they were ceaselessly tormenting each other with boasts and secrets (Tan 194). Lindo and Suyuan spent most of their time comparing their cooking and their children, both believing that they were superior to the other. Suyuan and Lindo both believe that their own cooking skills greatly exceed the other s. Lindo seems to be the best cook of the two of them, considering that she learned to cook so well ...
