Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee
If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty,
incompetence or conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer
s business, or if he has been guilty of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in
a matter of substance, the law recognizes the employer s right summarily to dismiss
the delinquent employee.
This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal,
continues to be referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be
dismissed without notice or compensation. Just cause can be defined as, employee
conduct that amounts to a fundamental breach of the employment contract. Just cause
can be found through any one of the following ... Show more content on

The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their
performance.
Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to
dismiss an incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the
special case of an employee who has worked for numerous years in the position and is
then seemingly guaranteed the job for life. College administrators frequently claim
that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the curriculum more effectively to
accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student demand. Which
is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system,
saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4
Situations as above, makes people question why professors with tenure are able to
get away with being incompetent, but other employees need to be careful and avoid it.
The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of
dismissal on grounds of incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen
s Bench ruling of Boulet v. Federated Co operatives Limited; the decision delivered
June 25th, 2001. This case became known for establishing the set of criteria in which
Short Essay On Islamic Philosophy
This paper is designed about the discussion on what is philosophy and what is
Islamic philosophy and philosophy itself. In first discussion is explain about the
philosophy and the second discussion is discuss about the Islamic Philosophy.
Generally, philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as
those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason and so forth.
First and foremost, the term of philosophy is derived from combination two Greek
words which is Philos and Sophia which means love or pursuit and wisdom or
knowledge or hikmah , so it is called as love of knowledge . Those who love of
wisdom known as philosopher. The consideration of philosopher is always seeking
the wisdom or truth without any prejudice. Wisdom also can be regarded as full of
beneficial knowledge without any injustice and it had been mentioned many ways
in the Quran verses, one of them from the verses 31:12 We bestowed (in the past)
Wisdom on Luqman: Show (thy) gratitude to Allah. Any who is (so) grateful does
so to the profit of his own soul: but if any is ungrateful, verily Allah is free of all
wants, Worthy of all praise.
Generally, the classification philosophy is discussed about metaphysic, epistemology,
logic, ethic and aesthetics. It all about nature of things and the mother of knowledge
(matter scientiarum). Actually, metaphysic derived from Greek word which meta
means after , so metaphysic mean after physic . Metaphysic is the study of
Essay On George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
George Orwell s, Nineteen Eighty Four describes the dystopian society of Oceania
which resembles several aspects of Nazi Germany when under the reign of Adolf
Hitler. The novel and Nazi Germany have several similar characteristics. Both
Oceania and Nazi Germany are ruled by dictators under a totalitarianistic government.
These dictators, Adolf Hitlerand Big Brother, use many different tactics and
techniques to make sure they keep control of the citizens under their rule. The first
strategy they both implemented was propaganda. Propaganda plays a huge role in
controlling the people of these societies. Another way that these civilizations are
similar is the way that they both censored, edited, or eliminated the newspapers,
books, and media to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Big Brother and the Party in Nineteen Eighty Four the Nazis implemented
organizations to push their youth toward their ideas. Membership was voluntary
at first, but the pressure to join was intense. Young people were accused of being
anti Nazi if they refused. Regular camps encouraged obedience to the Nazi state
rather than to parents. The youth were constantly pushed to invite friends, parents,
or anyone that was pro Nazi to join organizations. Girls were taught to produce
children for the master race. With the use of the media, the youth were fed a
constant diet of Nazi ideology (Hutchison). The Nazis controlled the youth of
Germany with clear roles that were established for young men and women to
follow. Organizations were set up to compel children to be good Nazis. Children
were encouraged to spy on their friends, neighbours, and families. The use of
propaganda by the Nazis reinforced the ideas given to the young. This site provided
me with a lot of information on the youth programs and groups that the Nazis had
and used. It also helped me make a historical parallel between Oceania and Nazi
Eve Adam And Eve
Eve Adam
Adam and Eve is a well know story in the book of Genesis. There are many
versions of this religious story, and many interpretation that go along with it.
Focusing on the Hebrew versions of Genesis 1 and 2, comparing the two similar
creation stories of Eve Adam, and look into how the Early Christianity New
Testament affected the way woman were seen as well as treated. In the book Eve
Adam by Kvam Schearing and Ziegler, it focuses on Genesis 1; the stories of
Creation.
On the sixth day Elohim (God) creates humankind in his image. The first man and
woman are created simultaneously and jointly receive Elohim s command to be
fruitful, to multiply, and to subdue and have dominion over the earth. Their creation,
Elohim remarks, is very good. On the seventh day, Elohim rests. (Eve 16)
When interpreting this paragraph a few things come to mind. One, Elohim is
considered perfect because he is God. So humankind being created in his perfect
image creates the idea that humans are perfect like Elohim. As one looks further into
the passage it specifically says that man and woman were created together. Meaning
that man and woman were equally created. Then after man and women were created
simultaneously, Elohim wanted the man and women to multiply and be fruitful.
Meaning that the man and woman had an equal gender roles with creating life through
out the Earth that Elohim had created for them. As one continues on reading The
Book of Genesis, another creation
Human Dissection Essay
Though dissections have been occurring since humans first began seeking
knowledge, it has often been done in secret. Among them (means of obtaining
human subjects for dissection) are the bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from
graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses, hospitals and prisons, the bodies of
suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the purpose of dissection
(Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the late 13th
century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed
criminals was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of
the church to human dissections, especially the Roman empire. As per research of

Andreas Vesalius was the most influential component of the field of anatomy in
modern time. After the time he graduated from the University of Padua he became a
professor but demanded he be allowed to dissect which was untraditional because of
the traditional lecture with barber surgeon dissection format. He travelled around
Europe doing public dissections where he began noticing his observations did not
match the material he was taught. In 1543 he published the results of his
disagreements with Galen, a new method, and a new philosophy in De humani
corporis fabrica... Vesalius showed that the liver was not five lobed but one mass, that
men did not have one less rib and women one more, that nerves were not hollow, and
that bones were a dynamic foundation of the human body (Ede 124). One of the most
important aspects was the illustrations. It contains over 600 engravings. The different
volumes address the skeleton, the muscles, the vascular and the nervous systems, the
abdomen, the thorax, and the brain. The book devoted to the muscles contained a
series of images showing successively uncovered muscular layers. Notably, the human
figures were presented in natural, rather than schematic, poses (Dominiczak p. 5).
This rejection of the traditional paved the way for future

Themes are discussing time, for example, in the poem Heart it includes words like
dawn and night in the poem Fire it includes seasons such as summer, autumn,
winter, and spring to express the time. In the poem Heart she tries to forget she has
dreamed of the stars while in fire it states that she sits and remembers about the
dreams. In both poems they discuss the way the writers feel in each poem, in the
Heart she feels as if she was trapped, and in fire she feels as if she did not do as many
things as she wanted in her time.
Claudia Taylor Research Paper
Claudia Taylor was born into a rich family in Karnack, Texas. She was given the
nickname Lady Bird by her nanny because of her beauty. Her father owned several
stores and a cotton mill, which was how the family earned money. Claudia learned
much from her father as her mother died when Claudia was only five years old.
Her father instructed her about how to run a business. Claudia was a smart young
lady who was able to graduate from high school at the age of 15. She also attended
the University of Texas where she earned two different degrees. After graduation, she
met a young man named Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ). LBJ knew right away that he
wanted to marry Claudia, but she refused and insisted they keep dating. LBJ finally

Caliban And Demmigods
Caliban the Human Monster and the Demigods Caliban is a one of the main
characters in William Shakespeare s play The Tempest. Being the sole habitant on
the island of Prospero throughout a majority of the play, Caliban is illustrated as a
human with monster like characteristics. Caliban can be also be compared to the
demigods of Greek Mythology since Calibanand the demigods are both complex, yet
parallel, characters. Numerous times throughout The Tempest, Shakespeare uses the
magic behind the island to show Caliban s powers; likewise, demigod has godlike
powers. Similar to demigods, Caliban is a half human son with assumed powers,
demands revenge by manipulating or persuasion, and both have emotional and
physical vulnerabilities related to their human side. Rebellion is another feature these
two share to an extent.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creation of Caliban could definitely be considered when comparing to a
demigod since demigods are created between a mortal human and god parent.
Demigods are known for their strength and courage, resemble much like man
(Blackboard 1) Demigods may have distinguished themselves in life by their
existence over other mortals and believe in this power to rule over man. As
Caliban lived by himself on a deserted island, he developed his own perceptions of
himself as a monster human and also believed he became leader over man. Caliban s
speech in Act III Scene II proves his close connection with the magic island, Sounds
and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not. Sometimes a thousand twangling
instruments (Shakespeare 55). Demigods also connect with their land and close
surroundings. They use powers to create storms, disasters, and also peace using the
power of nature in reaction to their frustrations and also happiness (Blackboard
Swot Analysis Of Hijing Hyundai
Building Distribution Channels One of the most important challenges for Beijing
Hyundai was to develop distribution channels, and to decide where channels should
be expanded geographically. Beijing Hyundai decided to adopt the 4S Shop model,
but had to decide where the company should locate the shops. The company classified
the China market into seven regions, north, south, east, northeast, central, southwest,
and northwest. These seven regions were then regrouped into two major categories,
an all cities expansion group (north, south, and east) and a core cities expansion
group (northeast, central, southwest, and northwest). The company then established a
sequential channel expansion strategy, following a hub and spoke pattern, for each of
the two groups of regions. With the hub and spoke approach for the all cities
expansion group, Beijing Hyundai‟s distribution channels made inroads into
major hub cities in the north, south, and east, identified based on the consideration of

How Technology Has Broadened The Spectrum Of
Applications
4.EMERGING DEVICES
The continuous scaling of CMOS technology has broadened the spectrum of
applications. Complex architectures can be now realized on a single chip. The
integration of existing and new technologies with CMOS extends the scope of
implementation.
Figure 3 : Relationship among More Moore, More than Moore, and Beyond CMOS
4.1More than Moore
The functional diversification of the semiconductor based devices by non digital
components is More than Moore implementation. These non digital functionalities
may not scale at the same rate as the digital components. The non digital components
are capable of interacting with outside world through sensors and actuators. This
integration of functions like analog and mixed signal processing, addition of passive,
power components and bio chips increases the range of applications such as
communications, automotive, biomedical and security. As integration grows so does
the challenges, it demands the need for multidisciplinary research programs to run in
pace with growing scientific fields.
4.2More Moore
The expansion of the CMOS by conventional dimensional scaling to reduce the cost
per function and improved performance is More Moore. This also comes with
resource scarcity such as power availability and reduced flexibility in interconnects.
Power dissipation becomes a critical problem in such devices due to large logic
circuits. Since the battery capacity has not improved much but the amount of logic in
SoC almost doubles
Kantianism Vs Utilitarianism
Would utilitarianism be more beneficial to our society than kantianism?
Utilitarianism is based on the principle of maximizing utility through the available set
of actions. Kantianism also known as deontological theories, is the principle to treat
everyone respectfully as a means to an end and not a mere of means. Utilitarianismis
on the basis of actions available that will produce the most utility. For an act to be
right it must maximize utility. An example would be if you had baked brownies
for a party and during the car ride there you ate them all as an egoist would;
however you may have put your personal desires aside and waited to give them to all
your friends as a utilitarian would. Utilitarianism is a selfless approach whereas
kantianism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, a colleague of mine chose utilitarianism to live by because all in all the
most utility would be maximized. However, kantianism does not budge under
pressure whereas utilitarian beliefs can bend if it means maximizing the most
utility such as; if I promise to protect you and the best way to protect you is to lie
then I according to utilitarianism it is okay to lie. Is that to say that kantianism is
the more practical choice because no moral rules are being bent. There is general
sense of right and wrong from person to person but ultimately it is just that, a
personal decision. Morals are not embedded into our being. Moral justification
coincides with society norms and values. Kantianism follows our american
precepts such as tell the truth , keep your promises , do unto others as you would
have them do unto you and lastly two wrongs do not make a right these phrases
hold some vitality to them. These are drilled into us as children but somehow
manage to be lost in translation as we get older. In reality, we tend to have
utilitarian habits such as if I am a teenager and my mother asks me whether I ve
drunk alcohol before. I may lie to keep my mother happy if that decision maximizes

These are the people who will be use the good or product. They influence the buying

I would tread the waters of global expansion and would first expand with our
neighbors to the south, Mexico. Some of the economic issues that I would run into
would be the low income revenue that families in Mexico face. The infrastructure in
Mexico is well developed in major cities but that is about it. Other cities have poor to
non existent infrastructure. The way I would mitigate these issues would be place
my businesses in tourist cities (I.E. Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Quintana Roo,
Monterrey, and Etc.) and international airports.
The social culture difference that I would have to take into consideration are that
many Mexicans only speak English. I would have to get bilingual workers that spoke
both Spanish and English. I would also take into consideration the narco culture that
they are currently living in. Many drug gangs are running the country and I would
have to mitigate that so my workers would be safe.
Technological issues would be minimal. Mexico is well off when it comes to internet
technology. Almost every home in major cities now have Wi Fi connection. My
business would also be able to provide this service. They also have cell phone service
readily available in these major cities. I would have minimal political legal issues.

Dr Van Helsing In Dracula
Dracula: The Secret Identity of Van Helsing
In Bram Stoker s 1879 novel, Dracula, after the vampire, Count Dracula, runs loose
in the streets of London our main characters Jonathan and Mina Harker, Dr. Seward,
and Lucy Westenra team up to free themselves from his reign of terror. In the midst
of their struggle, Dr. Seward calls upon a former professor of his for help, a

been described as an older, dutch man who is incredibly smart, and well versed in
the supernatural, though he speaks poor English. From his first appearance onward

Dr.Van Helsing claims that when Dracula was alive there was no branch of
knowledge of his time that he did not essay (Stoker 320). Clearly, Dracula shares a
passion for science and learning with Dr.Van Helsing. The most bizarre interest
between them however is Dr.Van Helsing s obsession with vampires. Such a morbid
interest would be strange for a man during the Victorian Era, unless Dr.Van Helsing
himself was a vampire. All things considered, if Dracula had a secret identity surely
he would create a persona that would allow him to pursue his interests.
More evidence that supports my hypothesis is the timeline of the story. Dr.Van
Helsing first appears in the story when he is summoned by his former student,
Dr.Seaward, to help save Lucy Westenra s life after being bitten by a vampire.
Conveniently, Dr.Van Helsing is able to stop everything he s doing and travel to
London, where the Count is headed as well. While the protagonists are waiting for
Dr.Van Helsing s arrival, Dracula has been feeding on the living, which is known to

Nhs For National Health Services Essay
NHS stands for National Health Service.NHS was launched by health secretary
Aneurin Bevan(1897 1960) at Park hospital in Manchester on July 5 1948.It was
created out of the longheld debate that good healthcare should be available to
all, regardless of their wealth. Before the establishment of NHS,the provision of
healthcare was very limited. The poor people did not have access to healthcare
services as they couldn t afford it and mostly people depended on religious
practices to cure their diseases. Before NHS,one s health was determined by one s
wealth as health services were very expensive.Since its launch in 1948, the NHS
has grown to become the world s largest funded health service provided to all.The
main objective of the NHS is to provide standard care to people. For that to happen,
health professional should have certain qualities.Right values and attitude, key
skills, knowledge and strong work ethic are the necessary requirements of a
healthcare professional.Healthcare professionals can also use reflective practices
for personal and professional development in their respective field.Reflective
practice is a way of learning from your own personal experiences and then improve
the way you work in your respective field. At the time of its foundation,NHS was
based on three core principles; that it meets the needs of everyone, that it be free at
the point of delivery and lastly it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay. These

Review Of Obstetric Myths Vs Research Realities
Review of research literature In Goer, Henci (1995) book Obstetric Myths Vs
Research Realities the author reveals the roles of midwives in women delivery and
how different it from the roles of an Obstetrician in a hospital setting. According to
the author the midwifery attitude towards child birth is that of the mother being the
central role in the whole scenario of child birth. The mother is the maestro in the
orchestra and the midwife job is nothing less than support and guidance. The
midwifery view is more of empowering the mother in leading the child delivery
process. According to the author treatment starts with what the mother can do i.e.
the mother s potential powers and this compliments the midwifery practice. On the
other hand, the author sees the medical approach to delivery very much opposite
to what has been discussed as that of midwifery approach. The obstetrician sees the
mother as incapable of making sound decisions on behalf of herself due to the
enormous stressful situation she is going through. The author sees that the medical
approach strips mother of her power to deliver naturally and that obgyn is
obligated to intervene as baby delivery is a medical procedure and requires medical
attention. Here the approaches are very different especially when it comes to
providing care, where medical approach is more focused on medication for treating
pain while midwives see that medication is too risky and unnecessary while
alternative treatments do exist and

Teaching the Philosophy of Science with Non Scientific Examples
ABSTRACT: This essay explores the benefits of utilizing non scientific examples
and analogies in teaching philosophy of science courses, or general introductory
courses. These examples can help resolve two basic difficulties faced by most
instructors, especially when teaching lower level courses: first, they can prompt
students to take an active interest in the class material, since the examples will
involve aspects of the culture well known to the students; second, these familiar, less
threatening examples will lessen the students collective anxieties and open them up
to learning the material more easily. To demonstrate this strategy of constructing and
employing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this essay, one possible strategy for overcoming this obstacle, which has been
culled from personal experience, will be recommended by way of demonstration. In
short, the suggestion is to devise examples and analogies from outside the realm of
science and its history, but which can serve to both highlight and augment the actual
scientific cases typically offered, as well as provide an interesting test bed for the
exploration of philosophical concepts. If these examples are tailored to reflect the
interests of the students, most notably by drawing upon the humanities and popular
culture, then a marked increase in class enthusiasm and participation will be the
likely result. In short, these non scientific analogies can help explain the nature and
purpose of a philosophical/scientific concept. In what follows, consequently, we will
develop a lengthy example which will demonstrate this very strategy: the
philosophical concept will be Thomas Kuhn s notion of a scientific paradigm , the key
element in his theory of scientific revolutions; and the non scientific topic adapted to
explain this theory will be the history of musical styles and the structure of musical
compositions.

Opec s Growth And Business
Synopsis
OPEC was founded in 1960 with 5 counties and the goals to be a dependable oil
market for themselves, and to stimulate economic growth in other countries.
Leading up to the 1970 s OPEC s growth and business was relatively unnoticed until
an Iranian revolution and Arab oil embargo pushed oil prices to new levels.
Changing consumer opinions about oil and over supply led to a market crash in
1986; but from 1990 through to 2000 prices strengthened from increases in
technology and a more global market. In 2008 the stock market crisis rippled
through all industries and even caused the oil market to suffer. Oil prices then
rebounded and at June 2014 oil prices set a record high. OPEC currently has just
under 40% of the market share and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because so much of Canada s economy is based off of profits from oil production,
the dollar is largely influenced by oil prices. OPEC s cartel based influence over
international oil prices means that they also have a strong influence over the
Canadian economy. A brief period of time, referred to as the honeymoon period ,
occurred when both Canadian businesses and consumers were highly profitable.
All non oil businesses would have felt this gain because their cost of business
would have decreased, and as labour from ex oil workers became more available,
labour would have become cheaper. With the decrease in oil, the price of goods
decreases, and new alternatives can be sought after that was previously too
expensive due to transportation. International trade also increases because the cost
of moving goods decreases. The honeymoon period ends when all citizens and
businesses feel the lower income from oil. This is likely accompanied by a falling
Canadian dollar, which will lead to gains for export companies, but losses for import
companies. Trade agreements also lose their attraction to foreign governments
because a key resource is no longer profitable.
Overview This paper will discuss the current situation of OPEC having an absolute
advantage over oil production, how OPEC s petroleum monopoly affects Canada s
economy and it s effect in oil based job industries. It will discuss how OPEC has a
significant amount of power over the Canadian
The Exchange Of Information Has Taken On Many Forms...
The exchange of information has taken on many forms throughout human history.
From oral traditions to the development of the printing press, knowledge was always
revered. With the advent of digital technologies, communication has gone through
changes in transmission, size, and importance. These changes are leading to an over
saturation of information, where knowledge is being replaced by short snippets of
data, and where our memory systems are transforming into systems of organization.
The digitization of communication is making it difficult to keep up with the
introduction of new information. Information overload, described as an overexposure
to incoming information, has resulted in our average attention span decreasing from

Just as capitalism requires the continued search for efficiencies, our interactions with
technology must also become as efficient as possible. This shift from an industrial
economy to a knowledge economy has led to the creation of the information worker.
These information workers are defined as a social group who rely heavily on
computer use, which according to Geert Lovink (2011), is a result of our economy
viewing computer use as an empowering activity resulting in more skills and
increased social mobility (p. 35). The capitalist mode of production casts the
computer illiterate as unprofitable. Google, Twitter, and Facebook, which lead this
knowledge economy, persuade their audiences to stay connected, and to participate in
virtual worlds in an effort generate endless amounts of data, which this economy
treats as currency. Those who do not participate are alienated, which reinforces the
need to be constantly connected. This transition to digital communication, which
maintains a sense of immediacy, lacks the interaction that encompasses face to face
communication. Prior to the written word, orality was the dominant form of
imparting knowledge. Prior to digital communication, oral communication, which
could be performed in small groups, encouraged knowledge to be dispersed and
shared, which, according to Ekeocha and Brennan (2008), increased the recall rate
Royal Ideology in Ancient Israel
Royal Ideology in Ancient Israel One of the main themes present in the rise of
monarchy in Ancient Israel has to be the concept of royal ideology. Royal Ideology
is the practice of believing that the king is considered to be at the same level of
power as Yahweh, and vice versa. Throughout our studies of Ancient Israel there are
many pieces of evidence to support this idea, and it had a great influence on the
monarchal structure that developed throughout the time. Dealing with this subject
matter, focusing on Wisdom is undoubtedly one of the prime methods of being able
to interpret these Old Testament texts. One of the clearest themes to emerge when
dealing with royal ideology in Ancient Israel is the acknowledgment of the king as...

kingship were extensive indeed. They were finally limited, as all else in Israel s
life, only by the prime ingredient of Yahwism in all periods and expressions: no
other gods beside Yahweh. There are many different themes common on the
subject of Kingship in Israel that are highlighted throughout scholarly analysis of
the subject. Sages of the time, thought to have written Proverbs, believed that the
king was a person way beyond the normal run of things. This piece from Proverbs
30:29 31 is a prime example: Three things have an excellent bearing, and four
move with dignity: A mighty lion among the beasts, and he will not turn back from
before anything a greyhound or a he goat; and a king, his people a band of soldiers.
In the sage s judgment, lion, greyhound, he goat, and king, all four were considered
to be extraordinary, and the king, the goal of this number saying, was the most
excellent of all. Yet, however amazing or even imponderable he might be for the
sages, they were still able to affirm certain themes which were held in common with
other bodies of Israelite literature. Another expression/theme of Royal Ideology is the
expectation that the King would guarantee
The Pros And Cons Of Human Gene Therapy
Human gene therapy is when genetic material is introduced into human cells to treat
a genetic disease. Instead of traditionally treating the symptoms, gene therapy aims to
treat the disease s root cause by directly altering genes and correcting defects.
Therefore, gene therapy is only viable for certain diseases. Disorders from mutations
in single genes are the most treatable, whereas disorders that involve many genes and
environmental factors are trickier.
There are two types of gene therapy: somatic gene therapy (SGT) and germline gene
therapy (GGT). SGT involves treating a single individual by transferring therapeutic
genes into somatic cells, most commonly bone marrow. GGT inserts genes into
reproductive cells or embryos to fix genetic defects in the germ line. In other words,
the genetic makeup of future generations is changed to prevent the recurrence of
certain genetic disorders. Although gene therapy as a whole is controversial,
germline gene therapy especially raises ethical concerns because it is capable of
manipulating the human genome of a germ line. First, the risk is without the consent
of future generations, and second, it may dangerously lead to genetic enhancement.
Genetic enhancement has its own set of ethical issues, ranging from eugenics and
social discrimination to messing with nature. Therefore, the potential consequences
of gene therapy have raised a hotly contested bioethical question of whether gene
therapy should be allowed in the future.

Life and Death
When a woman gets pregnant, she and her partner make a serious decision whether
they should give birth to the unborn child or abort it. However, sometimes every
couple can have a different outlook about giving birth or aborting because every male
and female has his or her ways of thinking. In Hills Like White Elephants, the author,
Ernest Hemingwaytells a story of an American man and his girlfriend, Jig, who have
a disagreement in the train station on the subject of whether to keep the unborn child
or to abort. However, the author uses binary oppositionof life and death to portray the
polemic argument a couple encounters regarding abortion. As a symbol for the binary
opposition of life and death, he represents the couple s expressions,... Show more

For example, Jig says, Then what will we do afterward (401)? Literally, this
statement shows Jig s concerns about what will happen after the operation, like the
emotions she will feel, because abortion is something that can leave emotional
damage on her after the operation. However, symbolically, Jigs concerned feelings
suggest that Jig is not quite sure about abortion. Therefore, Jig s feelings can be a
representation of life because if a woman is sure about abortion, she will do the
operation. As a result, one can conclude that Jig is just wasting time with her unsure
feelings to postpone the abortion.
However, The American s feeling suggests to the readers his agreement on
abortion, which symbolizes death. As the American states to Jig, I know we will.
You don t have to be afraid. I ve knows lots of people that have done it (402). The
American states his feeling after Jig states, And you think then we ll be all right
and be happy (402). Literally, the American wants Jig to have an abortion because
he does not want to settle down and raise a family. Instead, he wanted to continue
his trip around the world. As the author states, He did say anything but looked at the
bags... There were labels on them from all the hotels where they had spent nights
(403). The bag that has all the labels from all the hotels brings evidence that the
American likes living his life by having trips and not by making a family. Therefore,

Nancy Bell
I read the poem The Yarn of Nancy Bell by W.S. Gilbert. The poem tells a
gruesome yet humorous story about a naval man who ends up losing his sanity
from a cannibalistic experience after a ship accident. The speaker of the poem is a
character who is retelling a story that they have heard from someone else. As for the
story, the characters are the ten surviving crew members of the Nancy Bell ship
which include the man, the cook, the captain, a shipmate, a boatswain, a
midshipman, and the captain s gig crew. The setting took place on the shore from
Deal to Ramsgate in the beginning with the narrator and then in the Indian Sea for
the rest of the story where the characters were stranded. The story is fictional since it

Why Bears Are Attractive To Humans
Humans think the bears are attractive in many way. First, I think they are attractive to
humans
because they are rare . In the world, there is just 8 species are left, and it is even hard
to have a
chance to look at it. So I think this reason made people s curiosity more bigger and
later the
thinking turns to attractive because they will gradually think the bear is really special
because it
is hard to see. Second reason is cute . Different from its personality and weapon that
included
in body it has cute appearance. So people are feeling appeal from it.

What Is FCM-Based Image Segmentation
Many papers address image segmentation; however, this section only reviews
papers that have tried to improve on FCM based image segmentation. In its
original design, the FCM algorithm assigns a membership value to each pixel and
each image cluster. For image I with a grayscale range of for the ith pixel ( in k
dimensional space , the cluster centers are defined as . Parameter C denotes a
positive value ( ) and is the membership value assigned to the ith pixel in the jth
cluster. The respective objective function in FCM is defined as [23]:... Show more

Moreover, parameter , which is considered for the second term and significantly
affects performance, must be adjusted manually and requires prior knowledge of
noises. All the aforementioned methods are highly capable of spherical clustering,
but fail to deliver an appropriate performance for non spherical data [26]. To solve
this problem, the fuzzy based clustering kernel is used to map the data points to
Hilbert high dimensional space through the kernel functions. Yang and Tsai [27]
proposed an FCM variant based on a Gaussian kernel (GKFCM). In their method, a
parameter named is calculated in each iteration and replaced in the cluster. As for
FCM S1 and FCM S2, this method can also be applied to forms GFKCM1 and
GKFCM2, which use the mean and median filters, respectively. In this method, is
estimated using the kernel functions. Replacing with can improve the results
compared to those of FCM S1 and FCM S2. Regardless, an appropriate estimation of
requires the cluster centers to bewell separated, which is not always possible. Hence,
the algorithm should run a large number of iterations to achieve convergence. To
solve the problem of parameter adjustment, Krindis and Chatiz [28] proposed the
Fuzzy Local Information C Means (FLICM) algorithm. In this method, the introduced
parameter, the trade off weighted fuzzy factor, is determined by combining the local
spatial information with the gray level
Manners Are Manners Matter
Manners Matter
People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each
other, and just walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent
situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them,
whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether
the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see
the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is
becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed.
Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not
anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials
were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was
unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I
brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick
home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they
made the right choice.
Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward
another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For
example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and
respect. An individual who provided help will feel absolutely delighted and feel that
is was worthwhile to give the person the help he
Discussion. Overview. This Study Explored The Attitudes
Discussion
Overview
This study explored the attitudes and experiences of dog owners who have had their
dog neutered. Little research has explored owner attitudes and experiences of dog
neutering, with the only Australian study of this nature being conducted over two
decades ago.6 Moreover, most research on this topic has used quantitative methods
where participants stated whether they agreed or disagreed with particular statements.
An exception is the qualitative study of Downes et al4 which examined enabling and
disabling factors in the decision of dog owners to neuter their pet.4 Regardless of
research methodology, most studies have focused on factors that influence owners
decision to, or not to, neuter their dog and the relationship of ... Show more content on

Previous literature has reported that owners consistently select neutering
configurations that include administration of pain medication before, during and after
the procedure over configurations that do not include pain control.12 Thus, while
participants were concerned about cost, it is not a major factor in dog neutering, as
pet welfare and wellbeing generally outweigh cost. It is interesting to contrast this
finding with that of Stowe14 who found that veterinarians are concerned about cost
and make a judgment that most pet owners cannot afford veterinary care or may not
have the willingness or capacity to pay for the best of care.14 Therefore, our findings
suggest that veterinarians may underestimate client willingness to pay for veterinary
treatment. Further research in this area is warranted.

Trends Facing Wall Street
Two important trends facing Wall Street are its expansion of LGBT employee rights
over the past decade and its entrance into non traditional banking centers. These
trends are interrelated and deeply affect the LGBT community. As Wall Street has
greatly improved its treatment of LGBT employees, it has an opportunity to share this
accepting attitude as it expands into new markets.
The 1980s were notorious for rampant homophobia on Wall Street, where traders
routinely screamed faggot on the trading floor and a closeted culture prevailed
throughout firms. In 1983, a small group of gay bankers formed an anonymous
support group entitled the New York Bankers Trust. Bankers Trust meetings were
held in private homes and mailings were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article discussed visible changes inside Wall Street, including LGBTnetworks,
gay recruiting, diversity training, and improved policing of non discrimination
policies. Since 2006, this change has accelerated, with many banks offering gross
up wages to make up for the unfair tax treatment of gay couples. New York banks
have pursued LGBT friendly policies outside the confines of their offices as well.
Large financial donors were pivotal in passing New York State s 2011 same sex
marriage bill. In addition, many banks have publicly supported the Coalition for
Workplace Fairness , which advocates for nationwide legislation to promote LGBT
equality in Federal laws.
I attended pre MBA diversity events at many banks this summer and saw the
acceptance of Wall Street first hand. I met senior bank executives who attended
LGBT pride celebrations and recruited me to come to their bank. I believe openly
gay and lesbian employees can have successful careers on Wall Street thanks to the
changes that have taken place over the past decade. As this change has been
cemented on Wall Street, it can provide broader benefits to society.
As banks expand into emerging markets and non traditional banking centers, there is
an opportunity to promote gay rights in these areas, as they have done in New York
State. For example, Goldman Sach s fastest growing North American office is Salt
Lake City. The state of Utah does not offer discrimination protections to LGBT

Benefits of Volunteering
Benefits of volunteering
19 October 2005
Volunteering has a meaningful, positive impact on your community. But did you
know that it can have many benefits for you too? Here are some reasons to volunteer:
Learn or develop a new skill
Volunteering is the perfect vehicle to discover something you are really good at and
develop a new skill. As Mahatma Gandhi said, Live as if you were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever. It is never too late to learn new skills and no
reason why you should stop adding to your knowledge just because you are in
employment or have finished education. Planning and implementing a major
fundraising event can develop goal setting, planning and budgeting skills. Supervising

Sometimes a volunteer experience can lead you to something you never even thought
about or help you discover a hobby or interest you were unaware of. You can
strengthen your personal/professional mission and vision by exploring opportunities
and expanding your horizons.
New experiences
Volunteeringis a brilliant way to get life experience. Whether you build a library or
mail flyers to raise awareness for a local charity, you will experience the real world
through hands on work. This guide section has established that volunteers can do
almost anything and with the new millenium has dawned an era of infinite volunteer
opportunities. For example, it is possible to volunteer in developing countries and
see the direct impact of your actions on some of the most vulnerable people of the
world. You could skydive for charity, a chance to experience the ultimate thrill and
raise funds to help the charity continue its work.
Meeting a diverse range of people
Volunteering brings together a diverse range of people from all backgrounds and
walks of life. Both the recipients of your volunteer efforts and your co workers can
be a rich source of inspiration and an excellent way to develop your interpersonal
skills. Volunteering also offers an incredible networking opportunity. Not only will
you develop lasting personal and professional relationships but it is also a great way
to learn about people from all walks of life,

Analysis Of La Clemenza Di Tito
For this assignment, I attended the concert, La Clemenza di Tito, performed by the
Maryland Opera Studio. La Clemenza di Tito was intentionally written as a political
propaganda for the Prague coronation of Leopold II as the King of Bohemia to praise
the goodness, clemency and wisdom of Leopold II (Waldoff 265 266). The operawas
created by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartand first released to the public in 1791.
According to the website, Mozart.com, the plot takes place in ancient Rome where
the Emperor, Tito, rejected Vitellia s love and wished to marry his friend s sister.
However, Vitellia resented Tito and used Tito s friend, Sesto, to avenge. Since
Sesto was in love with Vitellia, he promised to assassinate his friend in order to get
Vitellia s heart. Unfortunately, Sesto failed and was given a death sentence. At the
end, Tito decided to have mercy and pardons Sesto and Vitellia (Mozart.com 1).
After listening to the opera in person, I have found several aspects of the opera that
are different compared to the YouTube performance that I watched prior to the
concert. In the concert, the vocals dominated over the orchestra and I could hear the
script more clearly. However, in the video the vocals and the orchestra are in the
same range, making the parts mixed together and I could not listen to some parts of
the script. This might occur because of the video quality rather than the actual
performance. The vocal range of the performers was higher than that of the video
because the

Bush wants tests to be used to tell if in fact the student has taken in the standard
amount of knowledge they should have while in that grade. Getting eighty out of one
hundred questions would not be bad neither. That is because often times, questions
are thrown in that may not have necessarily been something the student would have
learned during his third grade year but rather his fourth grade year. If the student
does answer those questions correctly the student is advanced and know more than
the standard amount of information that was taught to them. Under Bush?s plan, if
a large amount of students are not meeting state standards of what they should be
learning, then tax money will be yanked away from that school. In this case, it is
crucial that all teachers do their job in teaching children the standard information
required to be known by a specific grade or skill level. If the standard information
is taught thoroughly and correctly then it should be easy for the student to take a
standardized test and come out equal to or ahead of set standards. A Norm

who have already taken the same exam, called the ?norming group.?

Scribes also portrayed the stories of the book with vibrant illustrations. The

Essay On Gunpowder
Gunpowder otherwise known as black powder is infamously known for its
notorious chemical explosive capabilities. The physical reaction of the powder to an
open flame, is argued to be the earliest known chemical explosives in the history of
human evolution. The invention of gunpowder originates back to the 142 AD ancient
Han Dynasty alchemist, Wei Boyang. Like all Chinese alchemists, Boyang wanted to
discover an elixir of life that would render the user immortal. In his elixir, Wei
Boyang utilised the exact 3 ingredients in gunpowder, resulting in the accidental
discovery of gunpowder. Although Boyang was the first to ever write about the 3
ingredients of gunpowder, he did not realize what the reactions could do. His first

The discipline of chemistry can explain the unique reaction that gunpowder has.
Essentially, black powder has a fuel, an oxidizer, and a stabilizer. The carbon fuels
in the charcoal burn to create energy to be used while strictly needing a constant
supply of oxygen to do so. Potassium Nitrate is an oxidiser, which provides more
oxygen to the burning fuels resulting in a more vigorous chemical reaction, then
creating more energy in the process. Sulphur stabilisers this reaction between the
Potassium Nitrate and the Charcoal Potassium. The nitrate, sulphur, and carbon react
together to form nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases and potassium sulphide, the
expanding gases that give the propelling actions.
Gunpowder revolutionized the Chinese military. Flying fire arrows, mines,
flamethrowers, rockets, grenades and cannons gave the Chinese the upper hand in
expansion into countries like Mongolia. The early development of gunpowder
weapons also meant that the military had to shift from Calvary into more infantry
based. Horseback riding with loud and unpredictable heavy weapons made it
difficult for horses and its riders to fight during battles. The first fire lances , were
first recorded to have been used at the siege of De an in 1132 by Song forces
against the Jin, arrows were attached with a burning tube of gunpowder attached to
the shaft. Flying fire arrows were miniature rockets. Later in 1127 AD, McGill
University professor Robin Yates, states that the
The Novel Legend, There Are A Wide Variety Of
Characters...
In Marie Lu s dystopian book Legend, there are a wide variety of characters with
varying and backgrounds. Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and
outlaw Daniel (nicknamed Day), many side characters are also introduced and
developed throughout the course of the book. All of these characters possess
interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while most of the
characters names fit them, some do not.
To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same
name, which in turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the
exact meaning of Juno is not fully known, but it may be related to an Indo European
root that translates to youth . Additionally, Juno was the queen of the heavens in
Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and marriage, as well as
the goddess of finance. June s name does a good job reflecting her personality, and
matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at
the point in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the

not protect specifically women or marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what
is right, and the shift in what she perceives as right drives the main plot between her

June is completely loyal to the Republic. When she
Circadian Rhythm Dysregulation
Pregnancy is suppose to be the happiest moment of the women s lives; however,
sometimes it does not happen that way. Unfortunately, during this time future moms
live, in fact, a sentimental roller coaster during pregnancy. This instability occurs due
to the sudden alteration of the hormonal levels that prepare the woman s body to
receive the unborn baby. As a result, some women may struggle with the pregnancy
symptoms such as confusion, fear, and depression. According to the Journal of
Women s Health, researchers propose that circadian rhythm dysregulation plays a role
in mood disorders and reproductive hormones may modulate circadian rhythm
amplitude and phase. The dramatic fluctuations in reproductive hormones that occur
during pregnancy and the transition from pregnancy to postpartum occur together
with alterations in diurnal melatonin timing and quantity. They hypothesize that the
changes in reproductive hormones occurring during pregnancy may alter circadian
rhythms and thereby precipitate depressive symptoms in vulnerable women. Since
many women struggle with depression during their pregnancy, experts are always
researching to help... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unplanned pregnancy, especially for teenagers or single women can be extremely
stressful especially if they come from a very conservative family, who does not
accept sex before marriage. Moreover, domestic violence may be another cause of
depression during pregnancy. Unfortunately, many women get sexually, physically,
and emotionally abused by their partners. Another reason for depression in pregnant
women may just be because of their family or even personal history of depression in
the past. For those reasons, many women struggle with depression during their
Louis Armstrong and His Music Essay
Louis Armstrong and His Music The essence of jazz making something new out of
something old, making something personal out of something shared has no finer
exemplar than Armstrong. (Hasse par. 3) During the 1920 s a young African
American man, otherwise known as Louis Armstrong, helped create and represent a
new twist on popular music. This music that became so famous and well loved
today is also referred to as jazz. Louis Armstronghad a very successful jazz career
performing and composing popular jazz hits in the 1920 s.

(which is short for satchel mouth referring to the size of his mouth) or Pops , had
a sense of humor, natural and unassuming manner, and positive disposition that
made everyone around him feel good. ( Louis Armstrong par. 1) New Orleans had
a very diverse population. Both European and African origins made many different
cultural influences. (Bergreen par. 2) Jazz was very popular in the 1920 s. People
had money to spend on entertainment like dance halls and clubs. Radios and records
were popular so people did not have to travel far to hear music they enjoyed.
(Matthews par. 4) All sorts of new dances came about and people loved them. The
Charleston, tap dance, and other swinging dances all derived from fads of African
Americans. ( Harlem Renaissance par. 9) Famous songs from Armstrong in the 20 s
include Big Butter and Egg Man , Hotter Than That , Struttin With Some Barbeque ,
Potato Head Blues , and S.O.L. Blues . (Hasse par. 1)

Test...
Literature Review: Positivity of Common Core Standards
A literature review discusses published information in a particular subject area, and
sometimes the information in a particular subject area within a certain time frame
(The Writing Center, 2014). A literature review will almost always have an organized
pattern and will combine both summary and synthesis (The Writing Center, 2014).
Why are literature reviews written? The answer is straightforward; they provide a
handy guide to a particular topic (The Writing Center, 2014). According The
Writing Center at The University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill (2014)
sometimes a researcher will not have time to conduct a predominant search of a
topic; this makes literature reviews relevant because they give an overview or act as
a stepping stone. This essay will provide a literature review for the research question:
Do Common Core standards positively affect student test scores?
Uncertainties in the Research Many uncertainties arise when doing research; it is
important to read various articles and look for gaps or ambiguities so see what
needs to be focused on. For example, reading through four to five articles about the
positivity Common Core has on student test scores did not provide a great deal of
information about the positivity theses standards have on scores. The articles provide
information describing what Common Core does who and what it affects, as well as
more negativity than positivity. The articles also provide

Predictions are the hardest part of tracking tornadoes, meteorologists and atmospheric
scientists predict tornadoes through the measurement of temperature, air speed and
pressure conditions to monitor atmospheric conditions. Cool right? Atmospheric
scientists study the weather and climate and how it may affect us humans. To predict
storms and tornadoes, most meteorologist use special equipment such as weather
balloons, radars, and satellites to gather information about the tornado/storm. With the
data given from the equipment, meteorologist are able to predict storm paths. When
using equipment like the doppler radar, scientists have to identify if tornadoes may
form. When looking at a doppler radar, a tornado may look like a hook, that s... Show

A rain free base is a dark cumulous cloud base with no precipitation below it, rain
free bases usually mark the updraft of a thunderstorm. An inflow band is when low
cumulus clouds start to outstretch from the storm, when this usually happens, the
storm will be starting to gather low level winds from about 7 miles away, this
shows that there may be a swirling motion happening. A beaver tail cloud is a flat
cloud that usually expands from the east edge of a rain free base, if the flat cloud
goes around the south edge of the rain free base, this may pose as a swirling
motion. What is a wall cloud? Well, a wall cloud is a cloud that is lowering while
connected to the rain free base. Wall clouds produce tornadoes that can last up to
10 20 minutes. A condensation funnel is made up of drops of water and once it
starts to extend down from the base of the thunderstorm, if ever it touches the
ground it forms into a tornado, if not, it is still a regular funnel. A rear flank
downdraft is a rush of air that s going down behind the storm that descends with a
tornado. The rear flank downdraft causes the hook echo on a doppler radar. For a
funnel cloud to form, a convection of hot air has to set a motion within the clouds to

Technology and Education Essay
Technology and Education
Technology has always influenced education, even when the most advanced
technology available was a chalkboard. In the early 1800s, a technological invention
was introduced to classrooms that would prove to have a profound impact on
teaching....What was this technological wonder? The chalkboard![1] Now, more than
200 years later, technology is still finding it s way into the classroom, but in more
modern ways. Some of ways that technology enhances today s classrooms are through
the appropriation of grant money to fund further research on technology in the
classroom, the use of technology to increase civic awareness and through the use of

In the past, these lessons were reserved for older students who, it was thought, could
dredge through boring and dusty old books and court cases to learn about
government. Today, however, students and teachers have a new source of
information the Internet. As more and younger students are accessing the Internet,
new doors are being opened to teachers looking to instill civic responsibility in their
pupils. However, as stated in Technology in the Classroom... There is so much
information available that students can soon become overwhelmed or, worse yet,
completely duped by Web sites that speciously appear to be accurate and honest
sources (Braun 1997).[3] Teachers, when instructing students to use the Internet,
should show them how to search for material and critically review it in order to
ensure that it is factual and honest. Another option is Webquest, an inquiry based
curriculum design for online problem solving that has become very popular.[4]
Teachers who wish to utilize these resources can do so by having students look up
laws and court decisions online and create presentations or recreate the court cases in
order to illustrate their comprehension of the material, as well as show their thoughts
on the subject. Students today have options available to them that were never
available before, both in the classroom and in the library.

A Comparison of Susan Hill s The Woman in Black and M.R. James Oh, Whistle,
and I ll Come to You, My Lad
In Susan Hill s introduction to The Woman In Black she mentions M.R. James
short stories as some of the greatest ghost stories ever written. Her appreciation of
James writing is one of the reasons for the many similarities and differences
between the two texts. Hill was greatly inspired by the setting of Oh, Whistle, and I
ll Come to You, My Lad and this results in her novel being a similar reading
experience to James story. One of the most obvious influences on Susan Hill s novel
is the similarity between the title of M.R. James story and one of the chapters in The
Woman In Black , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both writers use the setting effectively to set down the mood of the story.
The main characters in the stories are also very similar, both Parkins ( Oh, Whistle,
and I ll Come to You, My Lad ) and Arthur (The Woman In Black) are young, curious
and non believers of anything to do with the supernatural. Parkins in particular makes
his views very clear:
My own views on such subjects are very strong. I am, in fact, a convinced disbeliever
in what is called the supernatural
It is obvious from this that Parkins feels strongly on the matter of the supernatural,
as does Arthur. The similarities do not end there; they both harbour a desire to
explore and in Oh, Whistle, and I ll Come to You, My Lad it is this desire to explore
which leads to the main element of the story, the unearthing of the whistle and visit of
the ghost. In the novel, Arthur s tendencies to explore lead to him discovering the
graveyard and the ghost. Also both writers use events in the story to shape the
personality of the characters, for example, Parkins begins Oh, Whistle, and I ll
Come to You, My Lad as a strict disbeliever of folk lore and ghosts but ends the story
being forced to believe them after experiencing them himself. Also both characters are
haunted by their experiences, Arthur specifically cannot escape the memories of the
ghost and the
Jim Fowles Mass Advertising As Social Forecast
Advertisement, a person or thing regarded as a means of recommending something.
Advertising has been around as early as the 1700s. Today, we have several basic
advertising appeals to promote products. In the excerpt, Advertising s 15 Basic
Appeals by Jim Fowles, from the book, Mass Advertising As Social Forecast, the
author believes that the power of advertisingis the ability to evoke the needs and
desires of consumers, in hopes of selling a product. Personally, I believe that the
appeals assume that the personality of customers are in need of advice and
reassurance. I don t think that these assumptions are generally accurate according to
everyone s personality. Not everyone relies on advertisements for advisement and

This ad appeals customers by having a desire to get even, mastering the
possibilities, wanting to be admired and respected; to have high social status. I
think the need to aggress and the need for dominance were the most successful
appeals evoked. This advertisement implies that being a man takes power, control,
and attractiveness. This advertisement normalizes objectification, where men are
degraded if they aren t tough. Advertisements like this appeal to the audience s
insecurities where people want to be admired and respected. For instance,
according to the article, this is a basic appeal, Need to dominate the power we lack
is what we can look for in a commercial. I think that this advertisement can be
harmful to some people. If people look for guidance or advisement from an
advertisement they will always be disappointed in themselves. When people
compare themselves to others they will never be pleased with themselves. They will
try to live up to society s expectations, in this case, what makes a man. Everyone has
a different depiction of what makes a man and this advertisement can interfere with

the easiest way to clean these if with a small set of garden tools. Use the shovel to

The parallel continues in regards to the presentation of evidence. In modern child
abuse cases, authorities historically tended to believe what children said because
they did not want to believe that they could make up such harsh accusations.
However, this blind faith in a child s testimony has recently been challenged as
children have been increasingly educated on the warning signs of abuse and are,
therefore, more capable of making fake accusations. Much the same, the authorities
in Salem did not want to believe the girls could make up such severe claims of
witchcraft, even though they had been increasingly made aware of the folklore and,
therefore, able to fake the symptoms. It has also been noted that the girls supposed
fits, if not truly choreographed and acted out, could have been the result of asthma or
even epilepsy. Asthma can be caused by stress, changes in room temperature, or the
presence of mold. However, attacks can also occur randomly without warning.
Therefore, when they do occur, it will look as though the person experiencing the
attack is in critical condition. It has been concluded that, If asthma played a part, it is
not surprising that the girls attacks of choking were common indoors, in damp and
moldy houses, and in the evening, when fires were stoked, rooms became smoky, and
temperatures increased. Furthermore, asthma is most

  • 2. Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been guilty of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes the employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee. This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be dismissed without notice or compensation. Just cause can be defined as, employee conduct that amounts to a fundamental breach of the employment contract. Just cause can be found through any one of the following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their performance. Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an employee who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the job for life. College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system, saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as above, makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being incompetent, but other employees need to be careful and avoid it. The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds of incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v. Federated Co operatives Limited; the decision delivered June 25th, 2001. This case became known for establishing the set of criteria in which

  • 4. Essay On George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four George Orwell s, Nineteen Eighty Four describes the dystopian society of Oceania which resembles several aspects of Nazi Germany when under the reign of Adolf Hitler. The novel and Nazi Germany have several similar characteristics. Both Oceania and Nazi Germany are ruled by dictators under a totalitarianistic government. These dictators, Adolf Hitlerand Big Brother, use many different tactics and techniques to make sure they keep control of the citizens under their rule. The first strategy they both implemented was propaganda. Propaganda plays a huge role in controlling the people of these societies. Another way that these civilizations are similar is the way that they both censored, edited, or eliminated the newspapers, books, and media to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Big Brother and the Party in Nineteen Eighty Four the Nazis implemented organizations to push their youth toward their ideas. Membership was voluntary at first, but the pressure to join was intense. Young people were accused of being anti Nazi if they refused. Regular camps encouraged obedience to the Nazi state rather than to parents. The youth were constantly pushed to invite friends, parents, or anyone that was pro Nazi to join organizations. Girls were taught to produce children for the master race. With the use of the media, the youth were fed a constant diet of Nazi ideology (Hutchison). The Nazis controlled the youth of Germany with clear roles that were established for young men and women to follow. Organizations were set up to compel children to be good Nazis. Children were encouraged to spy on their friends, neighbours, and families. The use of propaganda by the Nazis reinforced the ideas given to the young. This site provided me with a lot of information on the youth programs and groups that the Nazis had and used. It also helped me make a historical parallel between Oceania and Nazi
  • 5. Eve Adam And Eve Eve Adam Adam and Eve is a well know story in the book of Genesis. There are many versions of this religious story, and many interpretation that go along with it. Focusing on the Hebrew versions of Genesis 1 and 2, comparing the two similar creation stories of Eve Adam, and look into how the Early Christianity New Testament affected the way woman were seen as well as treated. In the book Eve Adam by Kvam Schearing and Ziegler, it focuses on Genesis 1; the stories of Creation. On the sixth day Elohim (God) creates humankind in his image. The first man and woman are created simultaneously and jointly receive Elohim s command to be fruitful, to multiply, and to subdue and have dominion over the earth. Their creation, Elohim remarks, is very good. On the seventh day, Elohim rests. (Eve 16) When interpreting this paragraph a few things come to mind. One, Elohim is considered perfect because he is God. So humankind being created in his perfect image creates the idea that humans are perfect like Elohim. As one looks further into the passage it specifically says that man and woman were created together. Meaning that man and woman were equally created. Then after man and women were created simultaneously, Elohim wanted the man and women to multiply and be fruitful. Meaning that the man and woman had an equal gender roles with creating life through out the Earth that Elohim had created for them. As one continues on reading The Book of Genesis, another creation
  • 6. Human Dissection Essay Though dissections have been occurring since humans first began seeking knowledge, it has often been done in secret. Among them (means of obtaining human subjects for dissection) are the bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses, hospitals and prisons, the bodies of suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the purpose of dissection (Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the late 13th century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed criminals was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of the church to human dissections, especially the Roman empire. As per research of Mary Niven Alston,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andreas Vesalius was the most influential component of the field of anatomy in modern time. After the time he graduated from the University of Padua he became a professor but demanded he be allowed to dissect which was untraditional because of the traditional lecture with barber surgeon dissection format. He travelled around Europe doing public dissections where he began noticing his observations did not match the material he was taught. In 1543 he published the results of his disagreements with Galen, a new method, and a new philosophy in De humani corporis fabrica... Vesalius showed that the liver was not five lobed but one mass, that men did not have one less rib and women one more, that nerves were not hollow, and that bones were a dynamic foundation of the human body (Ede 124). One of the most important aspects was the illustrations. It contains over 600 engravings. The different volumes address the skeleton, the muscles, the vascular and the nervous systems, the abdomen, the thorax, and the brain. The book devoted to the muscles contained a series of images showing successively uncovered muscular layers. Notably, the human figures were presented in natural, rather than schematic, poses (Dominiczak p. 5). This rejection of the traditional paved the way for future

  • 11. Caliban And Demmigods Caliban the Human Monster and the Demigods Caliban is a one of the main characters in William Shakespeare s play The Tempest. Being the sole habitant on the island of Prospero throughout a majority of the play, Caliban is illustrated as a human with monster like characteristics. Caliban can be also be compared to the demigods of Greek Mythology since Calibanand the demigods are both complex, yet parallel, characters. Numerous times throughout The Tempest, Shakespeare uses the magic behind the island to show Caliban s powers; likewise, demigod has godlike powers. Similar to demigods, Caliban is a half human son with assumed powers, demands revenge by manipulating or persuasion, and both have emotional and physical vulnerabilities related to their human side. They use powers to create storms, disasters, and also peace using the power of nature in reaction to their frustrations and also happiness (Blackboard
  • 12. Swot Analysis Of Hijing Hyundai Building Distribution Channels One of the most important challenges for Beijing Hyundai was to develop distribution channels, and to decide where channels should be expanded geographically. Beijing Hyundai decided to adopt the 4S Shop model, but had to decide where the company should locate the shops. The company classified the China market into seven regions, north, south, east, northeast, central, southwest, and northwest. These seven regions were then regrouped into two major categories, an all cities expansion group (north, south, and east) and a core cities expansion group (northeast, central, southwest, and northwest). The company then established a sequential channel expansion strategy, following a hub and spoke pattern, for each of the two groups of regions. With the hub and spoke approach for the all cities expansion group, Beijing Hyundai‟s distribution channels made inroads into major hub cities in the north, south, and east, identified based on the consideration of income level,... • 13. How Technology Has Broadened The Spectrum Of Applications 4.EMERGING DEVICES The continuous scaling of CMOS technology has broadened the spectrum of applications. Complex architectures can be now realized on a single chip. The integration of existing and new technologies with CMOS extends the scope of implementation. Figure 3 : Relationship among More Moore, More than Moore, and Beyond CMOS 4.1More than Moore The functional diversification of the semiconductor based devices by non digital components is More than Moore implementation. These non digital functionalities may not scale at the same rate as the digital components. The non digital components are capable of interacting with outside world through sensors and actuators. This integration of functions like analog and mixed signal processing, addition of passive, power components and bio chips increases the range of applications such as communications, automotive, biomedical and security. As integration grows so does the challenges, it demands the need for multidisciplinary research programs to run in pace with growing scientific fields. 4.2More Moore The expansion of the CMOS by conventional dimensional scaling to reduce the cost per function and improved performance is More Moore. This also comes with resource scarcity such as power availability and reduced flexibility in interconnects. Power dissipation becomes a critical problem in such devices due to large logic circuits. Since the battery capacity has not improved much but the amount of logic in SoC almost doubles
  • 14. Kantianism Vs Utilitarianism Would utilitarianism be more beneficial to our society than kantianism? Utilitarianism is based on the principle of maximizing utility through the available set of actions. Kantianism also known as deontological theories, is the principle to treat everyone respectfully as a means to an end and not a mere of means. Utilitarianismis on the basis of actions available that will produce the most utility. For an act to be right it must maximize utility. An example would be if you had baked brownies for a party and during the car ride there you ate them all as an egoist would; however you may have put your personal desires aside and waited to give them to all your friends as a utilitarian would. Although, a colleague of mine chose utilitarianism to live by because all in all the most utility would be maximized. However, kantianism does not budge under pressure whereas utilitarian beliefs can bend if it means maximizing the most utility such as; if I promise to protect you and the best way to protect you is to lie then I according to utilitarianism it is okay to lie. Is that to say that kantianism is the more practical choice because no moral rules are being bent. There is general sense of right and wrong from person to person but ultimately it is just that, a personal decision. Morals are not embedded into our being. Moral justification coincides with society norms and values. Kantianism follows our american precepts such as tell the truth , keep your promises , do unto others as you would have them do unto you and lastly two wrongs do not make a right these phrases hold some vitality to them. These are drilled into us as children but somehow manage to be lost in translation as we get older. In reality, we tend to have utilitarian habits such as if I am a teenager and my mother asks me whether I ve drunk alcohol before. I may lie to keep my mother happy if that decision maximizes most

Other cities have poor to non existent infrastructure. The way I would mitigate these issues would be place my businesses in tourist cities (I.E. The social culture difference that I would have to take into consideration are that many Mexicans only speak English. I would have to get bilingual workers that spoke both Spanish and English. Dr.Van Helsing claims that when Dracula was alive there was no branch of knowledge of his time that he did not essay (Stoker 320). Clearly, Dracula shares a passion for science and learning with Dr.Van Helsing. The most bizarre interest between them however is Dr.Van Helsing s obsession with vampires. Such a morbid interest would be strange for a man during the Victorian Era, unless Dr.Van Helsing himself was a vampire. All things considered, if Dracula had a secret identity surely he would create a persona that would allow him to pursue his interests. More evidence that supports my hypothesis is the timeline of the story. Dr.Van Helsing first appears in the story when he is summoned by his former student, Dr.Seaward, to help save Lucy Westenra s life after being bitten by a vampire. Conveniently, Dr.Van Helsing is able to stop everything he s doing and travel to London, where the Count is headed as well. Nhs For National Health Services Essay NHS stands for National Health Service.NHS was launched by health secretary Aneurin Bevan(1897 1960) at Park hospital in Manchester on July 5 1948.It was created out of the longheld debate that good healthcare should be available to all, regardless of their wealth. Before the establishment of NHS,the provision of healthcare was very limited. The poor people did not have access to healthcare services as they couldn t afford it and mostly people depended on religious practices to cure their diseases. Before NHS,one s health was determined by one s wealth as health services were very expensive.Since its launch in 1948, the NHS has grown to become the world s largest funded health service provided to all.The main objective of the NHS is to provide standard care to people. For that to happen, health professional should have certain qualities.Right values and attitude, key skills, knowledge and strong work ethic are the necessary requirements of a healthcare professional.Healthcare professionals can also use reflective practices for personal and professional development in their respective field.Reflective practice is a way of learning from your own personal experiences and then improve the way you work in your respective field. At the time of its foundation,NHS was based on three core principles; that it meets the needs of everyone, that it be free at the point of delivery and lastly it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay. These core principles have pathed the way for current
  • 18. Review Of Obstetric Myths Vs Research Realities Review of research literature In Goer, Henci (1995) book Obstetric Myths Vs Research Realities the author reveals the roles of midwives in women delivery and how different it from the roles of an Obstetrician in a hospital setting. According to the author the midwifery attitude towards child birth is that of the mother being the central role in the whole scenario of child birth. The mother is the maestro in the orchestra and the midwife job is nothing less than support and guidance. The midwifery view is more of empowering the mother in leading the child delivery process. According to the author treatment starts with what the mother can do i.e. the mother s potential powers and this compliments the midwifery practice. On the other hand, the author sees the medical approach to delivery very much opposite to what has been discussed as that of midwifery approach. The obstetrician sees the mother as incapable of making sound decisions on behalf of herself due to the enormous stressful situation she is going through. The author sees that the medical approach strips mother of her power to deliver naturally and that obgyn is obligated to intervene as baby delivery is a medical procedure and requires medical attention. Here the approaches are very different especially when it comes to providing care, where medical approach is more focused on medication for treating pain while midwives see that medication is too risky and unnecessary while alternative treatments do exist and

Teaching the Philosophy of Science with Non Scientific Examples ABSTRACT: This essay explores the benefits of utilizing non scientific examples and analogies in teaching philosophy of science courses, or general introductory courses. These examples can help resolve two basic difficulties faced by most instructors, especially when teaching lower level courses: first, they can prompt students to take an active interest in the class material, since the examples will involve aspects of the culture well known to the students; second, these familiar, less threatening examples will lessen the students collective anxieties and open them up to learning the material more easily. To demonstrate this strategy of constructing and employing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this essay, one possible strategy for overcoming this obstacle, which has been culled from personal experience, will be recommended by way of demonstration. In short, the suggestion is to devise examples and analogies from outside the realm of science and its history, but which can serve to both highlight and augment the actual scientific cases typically offered, as well as provide an interesting test bed for the exploration of philosophical concepts. If these examples are tailored to reflect the interests of the students, most notably by drawing upon the humanities and popular culture, then a marked increase in class enthusiasm and participation will be the likely result. In short, these non scientific analogies can help explain the nature and purpose of a philosophical/scientific concept. In what follows, consequently, we will develop a lengthy example which will demonstrate this very strategy: the philosophical concept will be Thomas Kuhn s notion of a scientific paradigm , the key element in his theory of scientific revolutions; and the non scientific topic adapted to explain this theory will be the history of musical styles and the structure of musical compositions. Leading up to the 1970 s OPEC s growth and business was relatively unnoticed until an Iranian revolution and Arab oil embargo pushed oil prices to new levels. Changing consumer opinions about oil and over supply led to a market crash in 1986; but from 1990 through to 2000 prices strengthened from increases in technology and a more global market. In 2008 the stock market crisis rippled through all industries and even caused the oil market to suffer. Oil prices then rebounded and at June 2014 oil prices set a record high. Because so much of Canada s economy is based off of profits from oil production, the dollar is largely influenced by oil prices. OPEC s cartel based influence over international oil prices means that they also have a strong influence over the Canadian economy. A brief period of time, referred to as the honeymoon period , occurred when both Canadian businesses and consumers were highly profitable. All non oil businesses would have felt this gain because their cost of business would have decreased, and as labour from ex oil workers became more available, labour would have become cheaper. With the decrease in oil, the price of goods decreases, and new alternatives can be sought after that was previously too expensive due to transportation. International trade also increases because the cost of moving goods decreases. The honeymoon period ends when all citizens and businesses feel the lower income from oil. This is likely accompanied by a falling Canadian dollar, which will lead to gains for export companies, but losses for import companies. Trade agreements also lose their attraction to foreign governments because a key resource is no longer profitable. Overview This paper will discuss the current situation of OPEC having an absolute advantage over oil production, how OPEC s petroleum monopoly affects Canada s economy and it s effect in oil based job industries. It will discuss how OPEC has a significant amount of power over the Canadian

From oral traditions to the development of the printing press, knowledge was always revered. With the advent of digital technologies, communication has gone through changes in transmission, size, and importance. These changes are leading to an over saturation of information, where knowledge is being replaced by short snippets of data, and where our memory systems are transforming into systems of organization. The digitization of communication is making it difficult to keep up with the introduction of new information. Just as capitalism requires the continued search for efficiencies, our interactions with technology must also become as efficient as possible. This shift from an industrial economy to a knowledge economy has led to the creation of the information worker. These information workers are defined as a social group who rely heavily on computer use, which according to Geert Lovink (2011), is a result of our economy viewing computer use as an empowering activity resulting in more skills and increased social mobility (p. 35). The capitalist mode of production casts the computer illiterate as unprofitable. Google, Twitter, and Facebook, which lead this knowledge economy, persuade their audiences to stay connected, and to participate in virtual worlds in an effort generate endless amounts of data, which this economy treats as currency. Those who do not participate are alienated, which reinforces the need to be constantly connected. This transition to digital communication, which maintains a sense of immediacy, lacks the interaction that encompasses face to face communication. Prior to the written word, orality was the dominant form of imparting knowledge. Prior to digital communication, oral communication, which could be performed in small groups, encouraged knowledge to be dispersed and shared, which, according to Ekeocha and Brennan (2008), increased the recall rate

Royal Ideology is the practice of believing that the king is considered to be at the same level of power as Yahweh, and vice versa. Throughout our studies of Ancient Israel there are many pieces of evidence to support this idea, and it had a great influence on the monarchal structure that developed throughout the time. They were finally limited, as all else in Israel s life, only by the prime ingredient of Yahwism in all periods and expressions: no other gods beside Yahweh. There are many different themes common on the subject of Kingship in Israel that are highlighted throughout scholarly analysis of the subject. Sages of the time, thought to have written Proverbs, believed that the king was a person way beyond the normal run of things. This piece from Proverbs 30:29 31 is a prime example: Three things have an excellent bearing, and four move with dignity: A mighty lion among the beasts, and he will not turn back from before anything a greyhound or a he goat; and a king, his people a band of soldiers. In the sage s judgment, lion, greyhound, he goat, and king, all four were considered to be extraordinary, and the king, the goal of this number saying, was the most excellent of all. Yet, however amazing or even imponderable he might be for the sages, they were still able to affirm certain themes which were held in common with other bodies of Israelite literature. • 23. The Pros And Cons Of Human Gene Therapy Human gene therapy is when genetic material is introduced into human cells to treat a genetic disease. Instead of traditionally treating the symptoms, gene therapy aims to treat the disease s root cause by directly altering genes and correcting defects. Therefore, gene therapy is only viable for certain diseases. Disorders from mutations in single genes are the most treatable, whereas disorders that involve many genes and environmental factors are trickier. There are two types of gene therapy: somatic gene therapy (SGT) and germline gene therapy (GGT). SGT involves treating a single individual by transferring therapeutic genes into somatic cells, most commonly bone marrow. GGT inserts genes into reproductive cells or embryos to fix genetic defects in the germ line. In other words, the genetic makeup of future generations is changed to prevent the recurrence of certain genetic disorders. Although gene therapy as a whole is controversial, germline gene therapy especially raises ethical concerns because it is capable of manipulating the human genome of a germ line. First, the risk is without the consent of future generations, and second, it may dangerously lead to genetic enhancement. Genetic enhancement has its own set of ethical issues, ranging from eugenics and social discrimination to messing with nature. Therefore, the potential consequences of gene therapy have raised a hotly contested bioethical question of whether gene therapy should be allowed in the future. The

All the aforementioned methods are highly capable of spherical clustering, but fail to deliver an appropriate performance for non spherical data [26]. To solve this problem, the fuzzy based clustering kernel is used to map the data points to Hilbert high dimensional space through the kernel functions. Yang and Tsai [27] proposed an FCM variant based on a Gaussian kernel (GKFCM). In their method, a parameter named is calculated in each iteration and replaced in the cluster. As for FCM S1 and FCM S2, this method can also be applied to forms GFKCM1 and GKFCM2, which use the mean and median filters, respectively. In this method, is estimated using the kernel functions. • 30. Manners Are Manners Matter Manners Matter People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each other, and just walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed. Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the right choice. Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. An individual who provided help will feel absolutely delighted and feel that is was worthwhile to give the person the help he

It is interesting to contrast this finding with that of Stowe14 who found that veterinarians are concerned about cost and make a judgment that most pet owners cannot afford veterinary care or may not have the willingness or capacity to pay for the best of care.14 Therefore, our findings suggest that veterinarians may underestimate client willingness to pay for veterinary treatment. Bush wants tests to be used to tell if in fact the student has taken in the standard amount of knowledge they should have while in that grade. Getting eighty out of one hundred questions would not be bad neither. That is because often times, questions are thrown in that may not have necessarily been something the student would have learned during his third grade year but rather his fourth grade year. If the student does answer those questions correctly the student is advanced and know more than the standard amount of information that was taught to them. Under Bush?s plan, if a large amount of students are not meeting state standards of what they should be learning, then tax money will be yanked away from that school. In this case, it is crucial that all teachers do their job in teaching children the standard information required to be known by a specific grade or skill level. If the standard information is taught thoroughly and correctly then it should be easy for the student to take a standardized test and come out equal to or ahead of set standards. A Norm Referenced test compare a person?s score against the scores of a group of people who have already taken the same exam, called the ?norming group.?

The physical reaction of the powder to an open flame, is argued to be the earliest known chemical explosives in the history of human evolution. The invention of gunpowder originates back to the 142 AD ancient Han Dynasty alchemist, Wei Boyang. Like all Chinese alchemists, Boyang wanted to discover an elixir of life that would render the user immortal. In his elixir, Wei Boyang utilised the exact 3 ingredients in gunpowder, resulting in the accidental discovery of gunpowder. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discipline of chemistry can explain the unique reaction that gunpowder has. Essentially, black powder has a fuel, an oxidizer, and a stabilizer. The carbon fuels in the charcoal burn to create energy to be used while strictly needing a constant supply of oxygen to do so. Potassium Nitrate is an oxidiser, which provides more oxygen to the burning fuels resulting in a more vigorous chemical reaction, then creating more energy in the process. Sulphur stabilisers this reaction between the Potassium Nitrate and the Charcoal Potassium. The nitrate, sulphur, and carbon react together to form nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases and potassium sulphide, the expanding gases that give the propelling actions. Gunpowder revolutionized the Chinese military. Flying fire arrows, mines, flamethrowers, rockets, grenades and cannons gave the Chinese the upper hand in expansion into countries like Mongolia. The early development of gunpowder weapons also meant that the military had to shift from Calvary into more infantry based. Horseback riding with loud and unpredictable heavy weapons made it difficult for horses and its riders to fight during battles. The first fire lances , were first recorded to have been used at the siege of De an in 1132 by Song forces against the Jin, arrows were attached with a burning tube of gunpowder attached to the shaft. Flying fire arrows were miniature rockets. Later in 1127 AD, McGill University professor Robin Yates, states that the

Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and outlaw Daniel (nicknamed Day), many side characters are also introduced and developed throughout the course of the book. All of these characters possess interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while most of the characters names fit them, some do not. To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same name, which in turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the exact meaning of Juno is not fully known, but it may be related to an Indo European root that translates to youth . Additionally, Juno was the queen of the heavens in Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and marriage, as well as the goddess of finance. June s name does a good job reflecting her personality, and matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at the point in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the protectress quality functions as the central plot point in the book. Although June does not protect specifically women or marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what is right, and the shift in what she perceives as right drives the main plot between her and Day, as well as their connections to the Republic. At the beginning of the book, June is completely loyal to the Republic. When she
