Fight The Fees Movement Analysis
The various demands mentioned above by the Fight the Fees movement have been supported with
multiple arguments that have been explicitly mentioned within their website. The primary, most
obvious justification for their demands would be the simple fact that Ontario constitutes the highest
tuition rates in all of Canada, as the current framework allows tuition for domestic students to increase
approximately three to five percent annually (Canadian Federation of Students, 2016). This argument
then leads to the discrimination this creates towards students of middle low income households that
are simply unable to afford such high rates. Racism is another issue that is brought up within this
dilemma because it is argued that those who come from racialized or marginalized groups are at
greater risk of facing such realities of financial instability. The group specifically refers to visible
minorities and indigenous communities and the struggles they face within the current white
supremacist and racist Canadian society we live in. Furthermore, the Fight the Fees movement also
advocates on behalf of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large portion of the supporters and advocates are current students and staff from well known
universities such as Ryerson or York University. After campaigning around post secondary schools
using posters, advocates and advertisement such as free agendas at the beginning of the year, the
group was able to increase student support and participation. The most current course of action taken
by the organization was the National Day of Action, on November 2, 2016 (The Canadian Federation
of Students, 2016). This was a day in which the participants would protest at Queen s Park and go all
out to draw attention towards the issues revolving around access to post secondary education within

Patagonia Vision Statement
Patagonia mission and vision statements as provided in Unit 2 Read section.
Mission: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement
solutions to the environmental crisis.
Vision: We prefer the human scale to the corporate, vagabonding to tourism, and the quirky to the
toned down and flattened out.
The understanding of the mission statement of Patagonia is important to understanding its unusual
vision statement. This mission statement describes the company as being environmentally consensus
about the products it is producing. The vision statement on the first read, I would describe a
disconnected, vague, unusual or just do right weird.
If you do some research about the company heritage, it started as a rigging creator for the mountain
climbing market. They, Chouinard Equipment, produced rock cling pitons, eventually, they had re
engineered all the tools used in rock climbing to be strength and lighter in weight (Patagonia, 2017).
As rock climbing became more popular, climber became more sensitive to the destruction of the rock
faces they wanted more sustainable equipment that protected them and the very rock surfaces they
loved to climb. In the 1960s, the company starting carrying clothing, imported from other company,
the entrepreneur in the founders seized another opportunity for the company, known today as
Patagonia. (Patagonia, 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Work Of Louis Pasteur
In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the son of leather tanners provided the clarity needed to
understand the behavior of microbes and applied this understanding to improve people s daily life.
This man, Louis Pasteur, succeeded in his medical investigations and continued to pursue his interest,
despite objections given to him by his peers. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of
chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology
and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in
medical treatment.
Background
On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a
child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art,
and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his
later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time
progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life,
Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son
of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of
hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French
University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur

Analysis Of The Film The Feather
ening scene, contributes to the tone of the entire movie. From right the beginning of the film, the
feather is already floating around in theair. This white feather is a symbolic object that counts as a
sign. The whiteness of itseems to show the purity and innocence Forrest has, and his enthusiastic
personality, where he is determined to do whatever it takes to fulfill his own, and his friends
andfamilies dreams. It also seem to symbolize the famous quote that his mom always said,Life is
like a box of chocolates. You never know what youre gonna get. With thefeather floating to
random places, e.g. on top of cars, on peoples shoulders, on thefloor It shows how random life can
be, and how no one ever knows what lies in theirpath of life, what obstacles they will have to
overcome, and what their destiny is.A very interesting effect the feather is shot from in the opening
scene is that it isa extreme long shot of different parts of the town, allowing the audience to adapt
thesetting of the film into their minds, whilst the feather is shot from multiple angles, sometimes close
up, and sometimes using medium shots. With the words and the townbackground, the feather
interestingly, is still the focal point of the whole shot, andunintentionally, your eyes follow wherever it
is going even when the background ischanged drastically. When the feather is shot in the sky, it is from
a low angle, which shows theimportance of it as a sign, so it feels as if the feather is superior to the

Timothy Treadwell s Techniques In The Film Grizzly Man
The work of Timothy Treadwell, since its beginnings, has been incredibly divisive as people continue
to argue over the effects it had on the bears and their preservation. Werner Herzog aims to highlight
this divide, as well as assert his own views, in the film Grizzly Man. While there is no uncertainty that
Treadwell views the Grizzlies to be misunderstood creature which may be safely interacted with using
certain techniques, Herzog seems to view them as wild, unpredictable animals, suggesting Treadwell s
actions may seem foolish. Through the way in which the film progresses and interviews with differing
perspectives on Treadwell, Herzog is able to effectively communicate his and other s opinions on
Treadwell. Due to the obvious absence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there seems to be some messages about conservation and human interaction with wild
animals, as a filmmaker, and therefore inherently a storyteller, Herzog s fascination is primarily on the
tale of Timothy Treadwell. He clearly had some admiration for the man, as both a videographer and an
adventurer, and saw his life in the natural world worthy of a film. Not only did Herzog want to share
his story with the world, but it also seems he had a personal desire to more deeply explore Treadwell s
psyche and personal life, and the effect that had on his work. Herzog was able to go beyond the media
s representation of Treadwell as a crazed environmentalist and uncovered his demons, including his
problems with women and his drug and alcohol abuse. He paints Treadwell as a much more dynamic
figure than what is apparent by a simple overview of his expeditions which creates a much better
understanding of why he did what he did. It is easy to view the documentary as a criticism of
Treadwell because of the creator s contrasting views, but Herzog did not set out to discredit Treadwell,
he wanted to display his story in it s entirety and provide multiple interpretations of his work, with
Herzog s interpretation being one of

Advertising And Marketing Operations Of Pharmaceutical...
For decades, the business dealings of pharmaceutical companies and physicians has been identified as
a potential conflict of interest. Providers have an obligation to their patients, and society as a whole
through their work. It is my belief that the majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and
the majority of Americans agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be
overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible monetary value.
Patients should reasonably expect that their providers are making medical decisions based upon sound
medical knowledge and not advertising material. We will explore the role of a practitioner that gives
rise to conflicts of interest and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a competitive
mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging Business Ethics Issues in a recent
and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell, Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as
we discuss the provider pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is
a public figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that bears
social responsibility in response to regulation.
In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal gain over the
responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same instance, the pharmaceutical
company would not experience the same conflict of interest per se when it is operating within business
parameters to influence the physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical
company would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such practices when
leveraged as a business entity. Especially if actions are classified as marketing expenses aimed at
informing rather than influencing provider actions. What is personal gain in this conflict of interest?
The debate over what constitutes a personal gain has continually been evaluated for decades. In 1967
Ruge described the

The Outrageousness of The Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn is considered to be one of the biggest blunders in American military
history. It is also believed to be one of the most unfair decisions made by the military because of the
fact that it was extremely discriminatory to the Native Americans that lived in the region of the Black
Hills in South Dakota. The rights of Native Americans has been an ongoing issue ever since the
pilgrims started making their settlements on Indian land. Indians had finally had enough of the
Americans taking their land and in June of 1876, a bloody battle took place that would never be
forgotten.
Before the battle was even thought of, the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Native Americans were
outraged that the new settlers were starting to violate their sacred lands. They lived in and around the
Black Hills in South Dakota and near Montana. They were native to that land and believed it was their
birthright. They didn t want it for the gold or precious minerals in the mountains. Their ancestors had
lived there in generations before and they wanted their children to live there for generations to
come. The Sioux had signed a treaty with the American government saying that their sacred grounds in
the Black Hills would be respected, which they were, up until gold was found in the area and
American citizens flocked to the sacred lands of the Indians to strike it rich in the Black Hills.
Although the treaty had promised them rights to the lands, the U.S. government ordered the Native

The Effect Of Ballistics On Forensic Science
Early forms of ballistics came in the motions of throwing rocks. After more dignified methods came

profile of a killer Essay examples
During the last decade the world has witnessed a staggering elevation in serial killings.
To give some insight into the scale of the problem posed by the serial killer, in the United States can
be gained from examining the statistics for just one year. In 1989 (the last year for which detailed
figures are available) there were 21,500 recorded homicides, of which some 5,000 are unsolved.
Unofficial sources believe that as many as a hundred serial killers may be at large at any given time.
Add to this the number of known victims of serial killers, then between 3,500 and 5,000 people are
killed by serial murderers every year. (Lane and Gregg 3)
These numerous multiple murders, often without consequence and justice, have shocked civilized ...

Characteristics of a serial killer are imperative in demarcating the type of person capable of
committing a serial murder. quot; Most known serial killers are 25 35 years old quot; (Falk 85). quot;It
is also significant that the victims of serial murderers are not concentrated in any age range quot; (Falk
85). quot;Serial killings are almost always committed by white males instead of blacks because class
resentment is far more likely to occur to a person with a good education than someone without an
appreciation of how society works quot; (Falk 85).
To truly understand the phenomenon of serial murder one must know what motivates a person to
commit such a horrendous crime. Patterns of serial killing fall broadly into two categories of
motivation: quot;Extrinsic, where the impulse to kill is located outside the killer s psyche that is, he
perceives a rational reason for murder in outside situations and events quot; (Fox and Levin 12).
quot;More frequently the motivation is intrinsic to the psyche of the killer, whether or not that
motivation is apparent to an independent observer quot; (Fox and Levin 12). Closer psychological
analysis of known cases indicates that serial murders fit into one of four main types according to the
predominate homicidal motivation: Visionaries, Missionaries, Hedonists, and Power Seekers.
Visionaries include killers who act in response to quot;voices quot; and alter egos, where

The Arabic Language is One of the Oldest and Most Difficult
The Arabic Language In the world there are many languages, some are difficult and some are simple;
some are ancient, some are modern. One of the oldest and hardest languages in the world is the Arabic
language because it has difficult grammar and every word or vocabulary word has many meanings.
The Arabic language began in the 8th century B.C, but it developed twelve centuries later in 4 A.D.
The first people to speak this language are the Christians, but after four hundred years later the
Muslims spoke the same language because they lived together in the same area. (The Middle East) In
the website Ask.com it states that, The Middle East, also known as West Asia, is conveniently located
where the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia meet. According to the USC School of Education
more than two hundred eighty million people in twenty six countries speak the Arabic language, but
not everyone uses the same accent. There are similarities and differences in how the Muslims and
Christians use the Arabic language in the Bible and the Quran, and there are similarities and
differences in how they use the language in the Middle East.
In some ways people use the Arabic language in the Bible and Quran in the same way. One way they
use the language the same way is that they use the same type of writing. For example in the English
language there is cursive and print writing . Another way people use the arabic language is according

Examples Of Sentences
Just how do we start that perfect sentence? It can be a tough decision. Sentence beginnings are like
first impressions, and we want to make sure they re right. And while there s no single correct way to
start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring.
So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some
examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For
example:
John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers for
John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They returned
home and put away the groceries.
What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a noun
followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing the
impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content on

Smiling, the man at the cash register gave them a discount. Returning home, the two put the groceries
away.
See how much better this flows? Here, we ve left the simple noun verb structure for the first sentence,
but, in the second, we ve used smiling as a participial or transitional word. And in the third, we ve
emphasized the action of returning home, rather than the two boys.
Let s look at some other ways to rearrange simple sentence beginnings (e.g. common noun verb
constructions) and add some variety to our work. Remember, our goal here is not only to minimize the
use of simple sentence openings it s to become better writers!

The Boy On The Wooden Box
Surviving The War Could you ever picture yourself being in one of the World Wars? Well, neither did
Leon Leyson. I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent reading project.
The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a Holocaust survivor and the
youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On The Wooden Box in 2013, with
the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the
United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the
war are shared.
In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in Kraków, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their
names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not
work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred
into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was
placed in the center of Kraków. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza
and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon
and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to
go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to make it to the United States, after the war
ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib Lejzon to the American

NHL s lockout
September 16, 2004 the National Hockey League had a labour dispute that led to a lockout. The
dispute was about the end of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The National Football
League has a working salary cap for the teams in their league. NHL is trying to establish the same type
of system that the NFL has. The negotiation between the NHL Players association and the NHL did
not come easy. The disagreements were that NHL clubs spent too much on player s salary. The clubs
spent over 76 percent of their revenue on the players. With the salary cap the NHL was trying to

unstable to outside countries and the public in America.
The Consequences of the lockout the season is increasing popularity in other sports and recreational
activities. NHL lockout is one of the reasons people turn to different ways to spend their time like
Texas hold em. The popularity of Texas hold em has definitely benefited from the lockout replacing
stud poker as the most commonly played card game in the United States. Televised events like Worlds
Championship Poker gained TV ratings due to the helping of the NHL lockout. That is one of the
reasons TV networks like ESPN is not bidding for a new contract with the NHL. Instead they have to
make individual networks that specializes in the NHL i.e. OLN. Canadian sports such as Canadian
Football League has bulster in fan support because they had no hockey to lean on.

revenue income on paying players salary. General counsel Bob Goodnow of the NHLPA was so

The Supreme Court Extends 2nd Amendment Rights to the...
The Supreme Court ruled on June 28th that the 2nd Amendment s protection of the right to bear arms
applies on state and city levels. The 5 4 decision along ideological lines echoed 2008 s decision to
strike down DC s handgun ban, citing the 14th Amendment as a major factor in the decision to extend
the federal right to own a hand gun for personal protection down to local levels. Though it officially
returned McDonald v. City of Chicago to the lower courts for a decision, it is expected that Chicago s
28 year old handgun ban will be overturned, and that legislation against handgun restrictions in other
states will be legally challenged for years to come. During this project, I watched and reports about the

That clip was then followed by a quote from Justice John Paul Stevens dissenting opinion as well as a
short statement by Congresswoman Dianne Feinstein (D CA) which was made during Elena Kegan s
confirmation hearing. The reporter drew attention to the fact that the court did not strike down
Chicago s hand gun ban, but rather sent it back to a lower court noting the fact that legal analysts
expect lower courts to overturn the law in light of Supreme Court decision. Smith then drew attention
to the fact that the right to own handguns does not, in the estimation of the Court, overturn restrictions
on waiting periods or assault weapons. The Supreme Court s 2nd Amendment Decision,
Correspondent James Rosen, June 28, 2010 After this initial report, Smith introduced James Rosen a
reporter in Washington DC. Rosen equated this case to Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade,
in that it is a momentous victory for 2nd amendment advocates. Mr. Rosen then discussed the majority
opinion written by Alito balancing it by showing a clip of Paul Helmke from the Brady Center to
Prevent Gun Violence, in which he said that this ruling does not affect the things which they are
fighting against. Helmke emphasized that the ruling applies only to the right to own handguns, and
does not appear to effect waiting periods and restrictions on military grade assault

Spain played a particularly large role during the early years of the nation, with England and France
also attempting to impose their will upon the Dutch. Victories against the Spaniards in the decades
following 1587 claimed many lands and helped to separate the Dutch as an independently governed
nation. Recognition by the English and French of Holland as individual also helped this cause. From
1621 1648 the Dutch were once again at war with Spain. At the onset of this war, the outcome did not
look well for the Netherlands, as Spain had captured Breda, an important fortress in the south.
Following this, however, the Dutch began to take back key pieces of land in the south and had several
pivotal naval victories against the Spanish. Included in these naval victories were Piet Heyn s
celebrated capture of the Spanish silver fleet, off the coast of Cuba, and the destruction of a Spanish
fleet in the Downs, off the English coast (Michael J. Wintle, n.d.). Following the signing of a treaty in
1648, the Spaniards now formally recognized the Netherlands as an independent state. The Dutch once
again experienced naval success in the 1670s against French forces. This time, the Netherlands
succeeded in driving away France, and pushing England out of its territories. Throughout the next

Compare And Contrast Benjamin Franklin And John Winthrop
John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin both played pivotal roles in their structuring government, yet
were very different in their philosophical views. Winthrop, a Puritan, founded his ideals based on a
firm belief in one almighty God. Whereas Franklin, also a believer in a supreme being, founded his
ideals on a more scientific ideal. Both men had different visions of government along with a different
view of humanity.
Franklin agreed and signed the Declaration of Independence that stated, We hold these truths to be self

Sports Science And Anti Doping Essay
In November 2015, a historian received email from Nikita Kamaev, who is the chief director of the
Russian Anti Doping Agency. It said I am writing to you as a result of your experience, within the
field of sports science and anti doping problems. I need to put in a book concerning truth story of sport
medical specialty and doping in Russia since in 1987. Kamaev explained that he was longing for a
author and publisher, and he needed the historian s interest. Three months later, Kamaev died of an

no one spends time to investigate why he does what he does, and for what reasons thousands of people

Bin Laden, throughout his piece, frequently used Ibn Taymiyya quotes to add a religious legitimacy to
his claim, what s problematic is that Ibn Taymiyyah was a controversial Sufi that was imprisoned
several times, one of which was for being accused of anthropomorphism (ascribing human
characteristics to God) and for having criticized, contemptuously, the legitimacy of dogmatic theology
(Laoust). Ibn Taymiyya clearly stands in opposition to al Qaeda s Salafists jihadists doctrine, which
empathizes the principle of the absoluteness of God and his image. One of Ibn Taymiyya s quotes Bin
Laden used was if the danger to religion from not fighting is greater than that of fighting, then it is a
duty to fight even if the intentions of some of the fighters are not pure (Zaman 443), this quote goes
against Prophet Muhammad s teachings and emphasis on good intention, he once said actions are
according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended , in this case, if some of the fighters
would participate in fighting the USA for the sake of killing soldiers (bad intention), then they are
simply considered murders, and such actions should obviously not be encouraged in the name of

What is a ballerina? A ballerina is one who practices the art of ballet. Many ballerinas go through
hardships, but the most devastating is an injury. According to (Schwarz 2000) who states,
Psychologists trying to understand the factors that put athletes and performers at risk for injuries have
found that professional ballet dancers get hurt just as often and suffer just as serious injuries as
athletes in contact sports .(para.1) Not only is it physical, but an injury to a ballerina becomes
emotional. There are many ballerinas, but this is the story of one particular one. I began ballet at the

Advantages Of Traditional Public Administration
New Public Management is an alternative to the traditional public administration . Discuss.
ABSTRACT
The newly elected Government of Mauritius clearly laid down its ambitions regarding Public
Administration in the Government Programme 2015 2019. The public sector will be re organised and
reformed to make it more productive, transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector
Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good
Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it sounded just as the usual
rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after
finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad.
Instead of staying idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the
government calls to go out for a cleansing that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good
governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech, 2015). The Mauritian government

Quality And Quality Of Health Care
Quality in health care is making sure that the patient that is being attended to, is receiving the right
care at the right time. Quality means different thing to different people. Some weigh quality on the
amount of time it takes for them to be seen. Some say it is the way that they are treated and spoken
too. Quality can also be measured by some by the amount of time that they spend with the physician.
Quality plays a major role in every occupation. It is extremely important in the health care field. In
health care you are dealing with individuals lives and their well being. The slightest mishap could

Methane is the primary greenhouse gas produced during rice cultivation. Methane, contributes only a
fraction of total greenhouse gases, but stores far more heat than CO2, as a result it is considered to be
far more damaging over a 100 year period. In agriculture it is produced as a result of fields being
flooded, resulting in the decomposition of organic material, depleting oxygen in the soil and water,
causing anaerobic conditions (Dickie et al. 2014). Water management is one of the most important
factors affecting and causing GHG emissions. In 2010, worldwide methane emissions from rice
cultivation accounted for 11 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector and a
third of emissions from crops, making it the crop with the highest GHG footprint (FAOSTAT, 2013).
Numerous strategies exist for reducing the emissions from rice cultivation, the majority involve
management of water and organic inputs (Yagi et al. 1997). Cycling wetting and drying periods during
rice cultivation has been identified as one of the most effective practices for reducing methane
emissions, often referred to as alternate wetting and drying (AWD) (Arunrat Pumijumnong, 2017).

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Charity
In 2001, Frank Baird founded the charity event Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men s
March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence in an effort to engage more men in the fight
against sexual violence and domestic abuse in the United States and abroad (Walk a Mile in Her
Shoes, n.d.). Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a mile long charity walk where men literally walk, jog, run,
and occasionally trip in high heels, customarily red (the classic emblem for the walk). However, all
types of traditional women s shoes are fine, and anyone who cannot wear heels or has special needs,
such as a wheelchair, is encouraged to participate and help raise awareness of this pressing issue while
also raising money for community resources that help survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
Several Walk a Mile in Her Shoes charity walks have been successfully held in locations like Logan
and Orem, UT. I have personally volunteered as a Blister Sister during Park City s recent Walk a Mile
in Her Shoes event which benefitted the Peace House. However, the most populous county in Utah,
Salt Lake County, has never held a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event and I think 2014 is the perfect
time to bring this celebrated event to Salt Lake City. Like other Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events,
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Salt Lake City! will raise funds for a local non profit organization
dedicated to eliminating sexual violence in our state the Rape Recovery Center of Utah.

First Midwestern was a well known bank and has a good relationship with Wisconsin for several

Also as mentioned above they were not fully aware of the side agreement of buying back the finished

which I suggest they shouldn t do. Because the price of the gems went down and also the issuing bank
who bought the drafts from Midwestern are unable to collect the money from the buyers. As
Wisconsin denied the side agreement with the Vietnamese buyers and there was no clause present for
that in the drafts, Midwestern cannot claim the money.

fulfill the requirement of the contract. The risks that Wisconsin faced when they agree to accept the
letter of guarantee and ship the goods under it includes currency risk, commercial risk, risk of
nonpayment.
One of the commercial risk involved the quality of goods delivered. When the Wisconsin made its first

the delivered goods did not match the expectations of buyers. The other commercial risk Wisconsin

How The Show Dancing With The Stars ( New Zealand ) Essay
According to Lealand and Martin (2001), despite outer differences, each element of television is
connected in a way. For example, the schedule provides a controlled grid to organise strands genres,
genre groupings connect across programmes and programmes connect to nearby programmes
(Lealand Martin, 2001). Moreover, every individual element of a television programme connects, in
some way, to the producers purpose of the show (Lealand Martin, 2001; Horrocks, 2004). Thus, each
feature of a programme is considered in terms of the appeal to its target audience and genre. This
essay will analyse how the TV3 show Dancing with the Stars (New Zealand) is structured and
produced to suit the purpose of the show and appeal to the target audience. Furthermore, reinforcing
the idea that programmes have a motive for every individual element in their structure. Firstly, the
genre of Dancing with the Stars, time slot in schedule, and the aspects of its television station have
influence in the show s target audience and purpose (Creeber, 2008). This influence of target audience
can also be seen when analysing the structure of the show. Furthermore, the producer uses various
production techniques to appeal to the audience. Thus, by looking at the different aspects of Dancing
with the Stars it s clear to see the relationship between the production and structure of the show, with
the intended audience. Moreover, the show effectively validates the sense that every aspect of

Behavior Modification And Operant Conditioning
The effort to complete a successful change in behavior is known as behavior modification. The whole
definition of the term as discovered by psychologist B.F Skinner for the best way to understand
behavior is to look at the causes of an action and its consequences. He called this approach operant
conditioning(McLeod). The name which went on to be distinguishable from the term classical
conditioning which is commonly referenced to the study of Pavlov s dog. Behavior
modification/operant condition is drastically different from this in that the have several techniques
both positive and negative to insure a positive change in condition. Does this always work? The
experiment and the results are proof in case for each individual study . B.F Skinner first showed us
operant conditioning through the use of animals (rats/pigeons) to show how the effects of
positive/negative reinforces as techniques help the progression of a modification in behavior (also
known as operant conditioning). Which do you suppose is more effective a positive reinforcement or a
negative reinforcement in operant conditioning? B.F Skinner developed three different type of
responses to signify the importance of his study ; Neutral Operants, Reinforcers, and Punishers
(McLeod). They are defined as below: Netural Operants responses from the environment that neither
increase or decrease the probability of a behavior being repeated.(McLeod) Reinforcers there are two
types: positive and negative.

Regression Method Essay
The traditional method for the determination of the time lag resorts to a limited portion of the
downstream pressure rise curve to perform the required extrapolation to the time axis. When a
numerical model is available, an alternative method to obtain the membrane properties is to fit the
variation of the pressure change in the downstream reservoir as a function of time using a nonlinear
least squares method [30]. By minimizing the sum of squares of the differences between the
experimental data and the numerical model, the optimal combination of S and D can be obtained. The
nonlinear regression method has three advantages in diminishing the noise effect: 1) it uses the whole

The details of the CV system used in this work are described elsewhere [15,16]. The design of the
downstream compartment allows varying the volume for gas accumulation from 77.6×10 6 m3 to
1009.7×10 6 m3; at the same time, the effects of resistance to gas accumulation reported in ref. [31
33] are minimized. The absolute pressure transducer (MKS model 627B11TBC1B) to monitor gas
accumulation operates in a range of 0 to 1333 Pa (10 torr), with an accuracy of 0.0133 Pa (0.0001 torr)
and a maximum error of 0.12% of the pressure reading. This level of precision is typical of the best
precision from pressure transducers currently available on the market. Prior to each experiment, the
system is evacuated using a rotary vacuum pump (Edwards model RV3) for at least 48 h, and just
before the experiment, leak tests for both upstream and downstream sides of the membrane are
performed. During the leak tests, the vacuum pump is disconnected from the system and gas
accumulation (if any) in the downstream reservoir is monitored for a period of time (from 20 minutes
to 1 hour depending on the duration of the experiment). The membrane used in the tests was a solution
cast, high molecular polyphenylene oxide (PPO) film prepared by a spin coating technique. The
details of membrane preparation are described elsewhere [34]. Other relevant experimental parameters

My Visit At A New Church
For this assignment, I decided to write about my visit to a portable church.
As a matter of fact, this assignment had come at a perfect time in my life. For quite some time, I had
been looking for an excuse to visit a new church. I did not feel like I was getting enough substance, or
the meat and potatoes and I was hungry for more. I had always thought about visiting other but I could
never get myself to walk through the doors. In the eyes of the philosopher Plato, I was sitting
complacently in the cave.
But that was when my mom suggested visiting a portable church, inside a local movie theater to be
specific. The church I had grown up in was large and extremely conservative. I had grown accustomed
to the rows of wooden pews that creaked every time a person shifted their position, and the beautiful
stain windows that sparkled when the light hit them at the right angle. The thought of stepping inside a
worldly building that smelled like buttered popcorn and had sticky floors to worship was not only an
uncomfortable thought but also it felt disgraceful.
Our church had always taught us to wear our finest clothes out of respect for entering God s home and
all I could picture in my head of the people I had never met from the portable church included images
of t shirts, shorts, flip flops and jumbo tubs of popcorn and extra large Diet Colas. When I was
walking towards the entrance of the theater, I felt extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I was not

The Function Of Mate Guarding Of The Field Crickets
The function of mate guarding in the field crickets, Gryllus bimaculatus
Abstract:
In insect species with indirect sperm transfer, sperm is packed in a spermatophore that is either
externally attached to the female s genital opening or introduced into her bursa copulatrix. Sperm
transfer is not immediate in these species, and consequently mate guarding has been suggested to
function as a mechanism of guarding sperm until it is released from the spermatophore into the female
(i.e. spermatophore guarding). Spermatophore guarding is relatively common in insect species with
external spermatophores (e.g. Orthoptera; Alcock 1994; Simmons 2001), but supposedly absent in
species with internal spermatophores and rapid sperm release (Simmons 2001). This study focuses on
two hypothesis associated with mate guarding a tactic of many species that adjust their reproductive
behaviour according to the apparent risk of sperm competition. The phenomenon of mate guard to
consider sperm competition levels and evolution of internal spermatophore guard is wide spread in
insects and other animals. We analyse two hypothesis one the rival exclusion followed by the next
spermatophore renewal hypothesis. Results showed that as rival was introduced to the arena of mating
of the distinctive original male (guard) in many cases showed a strong aggressive behaviour regardless
of whether successively avert the rival. In the second hypothesis certainly majority of the incidents

of the ground. Moreover, historical and archival researches were detrimental to the process of data
recollection. Other techniques included the recording of human remains before and after the
excavations by taking photographs in situ (Congram, Flavel and Maeyama 2014). Features and other
non organic remains were equally analyzed and recorded for further analysis. Other useful techniques
included geographical information based on the location and position of the graves, as well as drawing
scales of the corpses positions in them (Congram, Flavel and Maeyama 2014). Furthermore,
anthropological analysis was paramount. Through anthropological studies conducted in the lab, as
well as at the field, forensic anthropologists and archeologists were able to recreate a complete
compilation of oral histories based on municipal records and official documents. Also, testimonies of
the victims family members, and interviews with former prisoners gave a profound insight that
advanced the investigation. Other methods worth mentioning were DNA analysis, but due to its
limitations and time constraints, DNA analysis was not conducted on every exhumed body. This
research method was carried out at the expense of family members with economic means who set up
to identify their dead relatives; it was not sufficiently plausible during the investigation as a result of
time constraints. Significant qualitative and quantitative data were collected during this investigation,
and these became extremely relevant to determine causes of death of the corpses found in mass burial
grounds. All the data collected and the methods used during the research, provided a solid
understanding of the circumstances of the deaths of the victims, along with concise evidence that

The Impact Of Negative Impact On Aboriginal And Torres...
Australia is one of the country that has grown to be the most diverse in the world. Many people come
from different country, different ethnic background and different beliefs/religions. We want to enrich
children s experiences of diversity. At the same time we want our children to also experience, learn
and explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander because they are the Australia original inhabitants.
One of our local Aboriginal Communities is located at Inala, Queensland. The organisation that
managed the community is called Inala Elders A TSI Corporation. The Organisation (Our Community,

Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:______________________________________________________ The
Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act, in short: The Brady Act, was United States legislation that
was passed by Congress in 1993. The Brady Act required a five day waiting period and criminal
background check, performed by state and local law enforcement, for the purchase of a handgun. The
Brady Act was instituted to curtail handgun violence and decrease the probability of a handgun ending
up in a criminal s hands. The legislation was heavily pushed by Senator James Brady and his wife,
Sarah Brady, after Sen. Brady was seriously injured by a gunshot wound during the attempted
assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981. The five day waiting period went into effect on
February 28, 1994, and was strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA
indicated the Brady Act was unconstitutional and a violation of the 10th Amendment. Lawsuits in
several states were heard, and finally the Brady Act was deemed unconstitutional in 1997 by the U.S.
Supreme Court, in the case of Printz v. United States. At that time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI), instituted the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS) which would allow
for instant background checks of handgun purchasers, and provisions were made to the Brady Act to
satisfy the court. The NCIS became operational on November 30, 1998. The Brady Campaign
indicates over 2.6 million prohibited gun purchases have

Rise Of Fascism

Date
Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged
during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end of
the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions
which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the
Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascism is, and always will be,
inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the
Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the
emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany.
The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist,
expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy and
raised living standards. Indeed, Gentile comments that fascism in both Italy and Germany wanted to
conquer new countries and spread the empire of the totalitarian new civilization all over the New
Europe (Gentile 181). The direct actions of both Mussolini and Hitler in ... Show more content on

Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Adapted from content excerpted from the American Express® OPEN Small Business Network
Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it, you run the risk
of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on opportunities to expand. When you
are devising or revising your bookkeeping routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to
help you manage your business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As long
as your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can and should be as simple as possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for how to keep your
books in an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check for the total. Write
cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this from taxable income. Alternatively, you
can keep a petty cash record by writing a check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid
out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory
holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small ticket items for example, as in a stationary store you might want to
use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by having a POS
(point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on
paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item
purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable
tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later
date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts
receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable
record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

In the effort of the competition, the White Star Line came up with an idea of creating a massive,
luxurious ship that would later be given the name The Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, or Titanic for short
and as it is well known today. The main goal of this ship was to establish a primary ship for the
traveling to and from the United States in an extravagant style for the most well paying passengers
among their cruise line. This was made known to the public through the pride the Titanic had earned it
s fleet, for it was the largest moving man made object ever recorded before the year 1912 ( Titanic s
Safety Features ). She, the Titanic, was measured to be eight hundred and eighty two feet and nine
inches just in length, ninety two feet and six inches in width (or beam) of the ship, and one hundred
and seventy five feet tall with nine decks on the ship (Source 9). This massive ship was created in just
two years, starting in 1909 and finishing in 1911, making it possible for her to make her maiden and
final voyage in 1912, give or take a year for test runs and sea trials in Ireland. From there, the design

  • 2. Fight The Fees Movement Analysis The various demands mentioned above by the Fight the Fees movement have been supported with multiple arguments that have been explicitly mentioned within their website. The primary, most obvious justification for their demands would be the simple fact that Ontario constitutes the highest tuition rates in all of Canada, as the current framework allows tuition for domestic students to increase approximately three to five percent annually (Canadian Federation of Students, 2016). This argument then leads to the discrimination this creates towards students of middle low income households that are simply unable to afford such high rates. Racism is another issue that is brought up within this dilemma because it is argued that those who come from racialized or marginalized groups are at greater risk of facing such realities of financial instability. The group specifically refers to visible minorities and indigenous communities and the struggles they face within the current white supremacist and racist Canadian society we live in. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in medical treatment. Background On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art, and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life, Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur ... The whiteness of itseems to show the purity and innocence Forrest has, and his enthusiastic personality, where he is determined to do whatever it takes to fulfill his own, and his friends andfamilies dreams. It also seem to symbolize the famous quote that his mom always said,Life is like a box of chocolates. With the words and the townbackground, the feather interestingly, is still the focal point of the whole shot, andunintentionally, your eyes follow wherever it is going even when the background ischanged drastically. When the feather is shot in the sky, it is from a low angle, which shows theimportance of it as a sign, so it feels as if the feather is superior to the ... Timothy Treadwell s Techniques In The Film Grizzly Man The work of Timothy Treadwell, since its beginnings, has been incredibly divisive as people continue to argue over the effects it had on the bears and their preservation. Werner Herzog aims to highlight this divide, as well as assert his own views, in the film Grizzly Man. While there is no uncertainty that Treadwell views the Grizzlies to be misunderstood creature which may be safely interacted with using certain techniques, Herzog seems to view them as wild, unpredictable animals, suggesting Treadwell s actions may seem foolish. Though there seems to be some messages about conservation and human interaction with wild animals, as a filmmaker, and therefore inherently a storyteller, Herzog s fascination is primarily on the tale of Timothy Treadwell. He clearly had some admiration for the man, as both a videographer and an adventurer, and saw his life in the natural world worthy of a film. Not only did Herzog want to share his story with the world, but it also seems he had a personal desire to more deeply explore Treadwell s psyche and personal life, and the effect that had on his work. Herzog was able to go beyond the media s representation of Treadwell as a crazed environmentalist and uncovered his demons, including his problems with women and his drug and alcohol abuse. He paints Treadwell as a much more dynamic figure than what is apparent by a simple overview of his expeditions which creates a much better understanding of why he did what he did. It is easy to view the documentary as a criticism of Treadwell because of the creator s contrasting views, but Herzog did not set out to discredit Treadwell, he wanted to display his story in it s entirety and provide multiple interpretations of his work, with Herzog s interpretation being one of ... Providers have an obligation to their patients, and society as a whole through their work. It is my belief that the majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and the majority of Americans agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible monetary value. In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a competitive mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging Business Ethics Issues in a recent and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell, Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as we discuss the provider pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is a public figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that bears social responsibility in response to regulation. In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal gain over the responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same instance, the pharmaceutical company would not experience the same conflict of interest per se when it is operating within business parameters to influence the physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical company would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such practices when leveraged as a business entity. It is also believed to be one of the most unfair decisions made by the military because of the fact that it was extremely discriminatory to the Native Americans that lived in the region of the Black Hills in South Dakota. The rights of Native Americans has been an ongoing issue ever since the pilgrims started making their settlements on Indian land. Indians had finally had enough of the Americans taking their land and in June of 1876, a bloody battle took place that would never be forgotten. Before the battle was even thought of, the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Native Americans were outraged that the new settlers were starting to violate their sacred lands. They lived in and around the Black Hills in South Dakota and near Montana. They were native to that land and believed it was their birthright. They didn t want it for the gold or precious minerals in the mountains. Their ancestors had lived there in generations before and they wanted their children to live there for generations to come. The Sioux had signed a treaty with the American government saying that their sacred grounds in the Black Hills would be respected, which they were, up until gold was found in the area and American citizens flocked to the sacred lands of the Indians to strike it rich in the Black Hills. And while there s no single correct way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring. So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For example: John went to the store. Anthony went with him. Ibn Taymiyya clearly stands in opposition to al Qaeda s Salafists jihadists doctrine, which empathizes the principle of the absoluteness of God and his image. One of Ibn Taymiyya s quotes Bin Laden used was if the danger to religion from not fighting is greater than that of fighting, then it is a duty to fight even if the intentions of some of the fighters are not pure (Zaman 443), this quote goes against Prophet Muhammad s teachings and emphasis on good intention, he once said actions are according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended , in this case, if some of the fighters would participate in fighting the USA for the sake of killing soldiers (bad intention), then they are simply considered murders, and such actions should obviously not be encouraged in the name of religion, which invalidates Ibn Taymiyya s ... According to (Schwarz 2000) who states, Psychologists trying to understand the factors that put athletes and performers at risk for injuries have found that professional ballet dancers get hurt just as often and suffer just as serious injuries as athletes in contact sports .(para.1) Not only is it physical, but an injury to a ballerina becomes emotional. ABSTRACT The newly elected Government of Mauritius clearly laid down its ambitions regarding Public Administration in the Government Programme 2015 2019. The public sector will be re organised and reformed to make it more productive, transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it sounded just as the usual rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad. Instead of staying idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the government calls to go out for a cleansing that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech, 2015). Methane, contributes only a fraction of total greenhouse gases, but stores far more heat than CO2, as a result it is considered to be far more damaging over a 100 year period. Water management is one of the most important factors affecting and causing GHG emissions. In 2010, worldwide methane emissions from rice cultivation accounted for 11 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector and a third of emissions from crops, making it the crop with the highest GHG footprint (FAOSTAT, 2013). Numerous strategies exist for reducing the emissions from rice cultivation, the majority involve management of water and organic inputs (Yagi et al. 1997). For example, the schedule provides a controlled grid to organise strands genres, genre groupings connect across programmes and programmes connect to nearby programmes (Lealand Martin, 2001). Moreover, every individual element of a television programme connects, in some way, to the producers purpose of the show (Lealand Martin, 2001; Horrocks, 2004). Thus, each feature of a programme is considered in terms of the appeal to its target audience and genre. This essay will analyse how the TV3 show Dancing with the Stars (New Zealand) is structured and produced to suit the purpose of the show and appeal to the target audience. Furthermore, reinforcing the idea that programmes have a motive for every individual element in their structure. Firstly, the genre of Dancing with the Stars, time slot in schedule, and the aspects of its television station have influence in the show s target audience and purpose (Creeber, 2008). This influence of target audience can also be seen when analysing the structure of the show. Furthermore, the producer uses various production techniques to appeal to the audience. Regression Method Essay The traditional method for the determination of the time lag resorts to a limited portion of the downstream pressure rise curve to perform the required extrapolation to the time axis. When a numerical model is available, an alternative method to obtain the membrane properties is to fit the variation of the pressure change in the downstream reservoir as a function of time using a nonlinear least squares method [30]. By minimizing the sum of squares of the differences between the experimental data and the numerical model, the optimal combination of S and D can be obtained. The nonlinear regression method has three advantages in diminishing the noise effect: 1) it uses the whole range of pressure data instead of only the quasi steady state ... The absolute pressure transducer (MKS model 627B11TBC1B) to monitor gas accumulation operates in a range of 0 to 1333 Pa (10 torr), with an accuracy of 0.0133 Pa (0.0001 torr) and a maximum error of 0.12% of the pressure reading. The thought of stepping inside a worldly building that smelled like buttered popcorn and had sticky floors to worship was not only an uncomfortable thought but also it felt disgraceful. Our church had always taught us to wear our finest clothes out of respect for entering God s home and all I could picture in my head of the people I had never met from the portable church included images of t shirts, shorts, flip flops and jumbo tubs of popcorn and extra large Diet Colas. • 41. The Function Of Mate Guarding Of The Field Crickets The function of mate guarding in the field crickets, Gryllus bimaculatus Abstract: In insect species with indirect sperm transfer, sperm is packed in a spermatophore that is either externally attached to the female s genital opening or introduced into her bursa copulatrix. Sperm transfer is not immediate in these species, and consequently mate guarding has been suggested to function as a mechanism of guarding sperm until it is released from the spermatophore into the female (i.e. spermatophore guarding). Spermatophore guarding is relatively common in insect species with external spermatophores (e.g. Orthoptera; Alcock 1994; Simmons 2001), but supposedly absent in species with internal spermatophores and rapid sperm release (Simmons 2001). This study focuses on two hypothesis associated with mate guarding a tactic of many species that adjust their reproductive behaviour according to the apparent risk of sperm competition. The phenomenon of mate guard to consider sperm competition levels and evolution of internal spermatophore guard is wide spread in insects and other animals. We analyse two hypothesis one the rival exclusion followed by the next spermatophore renewal hypothesis. Results showed that as rival was introduced to the arena of mating of the distinctive original male (guard) in many cases showed a strong aggressive behaviour regardless of whether successively avert the rival. Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act Essay EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:______________________________________________________ The Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act, in short: The Brady Act, was United States legislation that was passed by Congress in 1993. The Brady Act required a five day waiting period and criminal background check, performed by state and local law enforcement, for the purchase of a handgun. The Brady Act was instituted to curtail handgun violence and decrease the probability of a handgun ending up in a criminal s hands. The legislation was heavily pushed by Senator James Brady and his wife, Sarah Brady, after Sen. Brady was seriously injured by a gunshot wound during the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981. The five day waiting period went into effect on February 28, 1994, and was strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA indicated the Brady Act was unconstitutional and a violation of the 10th Amendment. Lawsuits in several states were heard, and finally the Brady Act was deemed unconstitutional in 1997 by the U.S. Supreme Court, in the case of Printz v. United States. At that time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), instituted the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS) which would allow for instant background checks of handgun purchasers, and provisions were made to the Brady Act to satisfy the court.
