Theme Of Vengeance In The Oresteia
Orestes has to kill her (Zeitlin, 476). The view of vengeance in Aeschylus s The
Oresteia also depends on the situation the person enacting the vengeance is in
beforehand.
Another component that changes the view of vengeance is what situation the
character is in; meaning how the murderer is related to the victim and the position
they are in at the time or before. Clytemnestra is in a situation where her husband kills
their daughter and she can either retaliate or live with the fact that Iphigenia is dead.
She chooses to kill her husband and she does not have any support other than that
of Aegisthus. Orestes is basically forced into killing his mother and Aegisthus by
Apollo and people around him like his sister Electra and the Chorus as well as his
friend Pylades. In the beginning of Liberation Bearers, Orestes comes back and
encounters his sister Electra at their father s grave. During their reacquaintance,
Orestes tells Electra that he has been ordered to kill Clytemnestra and Aegisthus
by Apollo, ...if I failed to kill my father s killers.......to kill the two of them as they
killed him, in the same way. He said that otherwise I d pay the debt with my own
life, and it would be a life of torment that would never end (Aeschylus, Liberation
Bearers lines 307 313). He has this threat hanging over his head and any time he
starts to waver, his friend Pylades, his sister, and the chorus encouraged him. the
third and last storm battering their house. In the end, Orestes does in fact come
third and as a saviour. Before entering the palace he rehearses the piece of deceit by
which he wraps his mother and Aegisthus in their own toils. As he puts it before
his sister and the confederate chorus of Trojan captives, he will not give Aegisthus
time to ask from where he has come , this shows that he has a lot of support behind
him in this endeavor in addition to the support of Apollo (Clay, 4). After he kills his
mother and her lover, he has to wash his hands of the blood and, to be cured, he
must journey to the oracle of Delphi (Burke, 382). Orestes kills his mother,
subsequently he begins to see the furies that are coming after him (Burke, 382).
The Furies that are now pursuing him punish blood guilt (Burke, 382)
Analysis Of Dance And The Dance World
To speak about the impacts that bellydance has on dance and the dance world, it s
history must be explained. Belly dance is one of the oldest, if not the oldest dance
form known to have existed. The origin of this dance is said to be in Egypt, Turkey
and India. Much debate goes on about where people believe that it came from but
the truth is, with so many forms of this dance sprouting from the main, there is no
specific enough place where this style of dance can be said to have originated. The
origin of the name belly danceis said to be from the French phrase; danse du ventre ,
meaning dance of the stomach. The more traditional name is Middle Eastern dance,
but over time the western world has given it a new name. This dance originates...

Women are able to just feel the rhythm when they dance because the music is
within them. The fact that many of the first paintings of dance are ones found in
sacred sites such as the temples and tombs of Egypt, Greece and India, it may make
sense to say that dance was initially performed in light of spiritual occasions. These
dances are not ones for our own entertainment, but more so to worship the human
body, a rite of passage or to just get together. It is said that bellydanceis a sort of
language. To master this art; hours, days, months and maybe even years of practice
may be necessary.
The idea that belly dance began with goddess worshipping ceremonies is that if
women were to practice this form of dance, they will be more likely to become
fertile. This idea is one that many people may find difficult to relate but if someone
tries hard enough, it will come to them and they may be able to try it for themselves.
The fluid body movements make it easier for the woman to prepare herself for
childbirth. The movements make is possible for the expecting mother to have overall
shorter labors and less need for interventions such as C Section. While in the stomach,
the growing baby gets more oxygen and nutrients delivered , through these belly
dance movements that the mother is creating with her body. The mother also
becomes more fit
Spinal Cord Protective Structures
Protective Structures of the Brain and Spinal Cord
The brain and spinal cord are surrounded and protected by three different sets of
structures/tissues.
1.Bony skull (cranial cavity) and vertebral column (vertebral canal)
2.Meninges connective tissue coverings dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater
3.Cerebrospinal fluid filled cavity subarachnoid space, cisterns and ventricles of brain
and central canal of spinal cord.
The outermost coverings are the bony skull (cranium) and the vertebral column;
within the cranial cavity and vertebral canal of which are located the brain and spinal
cord, respectively. Within these, the brain and spinal cord are surrounded by three
connective tissue membranes or coverings dura mater, arachnoid ... Show more

It also holds venous sinuses between its two layers to drain the venous blood out of
the cranial cavity and brain.
The middle arachnoid mater (meaning spider web membrane) is thin and has an
underlying meshwork of subarachnoid space containing major blood vessels, their
branches and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The arachnoid membrane forms protrusions
called arachnoid villi/ granulations that project into the dural venous sinuses for
drainage of the CSF. The CSF forms a watery cushion that provides additional
protection, allows buoyancy of the brain making it lighter in weight and acts as
lymph for volumetric balance, metabolic and excretory functions.
The inner pia mater (meaning soft mother), is also a very thin vascular layer that is
firmly connected with the neuroglial tissue in the brain and spinal cord. It conveys
the blood vessels and hence nutrition and oxygen into the substance of the brain and
spinal cord. The arachnoid and piamater are together also referred to as
leptomeninges (lepto means thin and delicate) (Table
Similarities And Differences Between Virginia Wolf And...
The similarities and differences between Virginia Wolf and Jean Jacques Rousseau
Jean Jacques Rousseau and Virginia Wolf were among the pioneers of authors who
were not afraid to critically record of the current society they were living, topics
arose such as gender differences in employment or the process of assimilating
through society to be accepted. Rousseau and Wolf have many similarities and
differences in their form of writing and their state of mind when writing their
memorable piece of work, which has been presented for centuries. This essay will
establish the differences between Virginia Wolf and Jean Jacques Rousseau, and it
will also observe the similarities within their work. To answer this question, the
essay will focus on the three readings Fifth Walk by Jean Jacques Rousseau, Mark
on the Wall by Virginia Wolf and a slight mention of Emile by Jean Jacques
Rousseau. It is important to illustrate each reading by the respectful author s to
understand the various similarities and differences between the two. Fifth Walk,
alludes to be a romantical memoir of one of his escapes to nature, where he
highlights his journey such as harvesting gardens and creating a book about the
plants he observed. This writing is different to his other work such as Emile,
during this reading he describes how every person is not free, and regardless what
society perceives individuals to think. Mark on the Wall is a short story, which is in
similar context to both Emile and Fifth Walk. Within the story she is trying to
discover what the mark on the wall, during the process she reflects back on her many
memories that arose when she came in contact to a new object. During her memories,
she mentions society, nature which is similar to both of Rousseau s readings.
This section below describes the similarities between Rousseau and Wolf s work. One
significant similarity between the two authors is the writing form they acquire. When
writing Fifth Walk and Mark on the Wall both authors were incorporating memories
from their unconscious minds. This process was highlighted during both stories when
they were reflecting back on their memories when introducing their new surroundings
and objects to the readers. One of the reflections
Computer Networks And The Network
Computer Networks
Network is between two or more computers connected each other they can exchange
data. For example a network allows computers to share files, users to message each
other. Computer network topology is the way various components of a network for
example (link, connect) which is different systems and nodes are connected and
communicate with each other.
A network is a set of devices, software, and cables that enables the exchange of
information between them. Host devices are computers, servers, laptops, Personal
Digital Assistants (PDAs), or anything a person uses to access the network. A
topology describes the layout of a network. There are several topologies (Star, Ring,
Bus and mesh).
A Computer network consists of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LAN configuration consists of:
O A file server stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the
software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network.
O A workstation computers connected to the file server (Mac or PCs). These are less
powerful than the file server
O Cables used to connect the network interface cards in each computer.
METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN)
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) covers larger geographic areas, such as cities.
Often used by local libraries and government agencies often to connect to citizens and
private industries. WIDE AREA NETWORK(WAN)
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect larger geographic areas, such as London, the
UK, or the world. In this type of network dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite
uplinks may be used.
ADVANTAGES OF NETWORK
Speed. Sharing and transferring files within Networks are very rapid. Thus saving
time, while maintaining the integrity of the file.
Cost. Individually licensed copies of many popular software programs can be
costly. Networkable versions are available at considerable savings. Shared
programs, on a network allows for easier upgrading of the program on one single file
server, instead of upgrading individual workstations.
Security. Sensitive files and programs on a network are passwords protected
(established for specific directories to restrict access to authorized users) or
designated as copy
Those Winter Sundays Literary Devices
Analyzing of the poem Those Winter Sundays
The speaker s has some images of his childhood years with his father in early
Sundays mornings. In the poem Those Winter Sundays the speaker s present attitude
is prompted by his Image, Circumstances, and Memory of his childhood relationship
with his father s First, The speaker s uses clear and powerful images in the poem he
speaks of the cold as Blue black cold (lines 2) to let the readers know what time of
year it was in other words he describes Blue Black Cold (2) is not something you can
feel, but the speaker uses it to so you can get the image of how it looks rather than
just how it feels. However, the speaker also uses another image of his childhood the

Hayden remembers his father waking up early on Sunday morning hands that ached
from labor in the weekday (4) his father would call for him early that morning and
Hayden would put on his clothes to get his day started with his father rather if it
was helping his father start a fire to keep the house warm, he would get up and
help his father fearing the chronic anger of that house. (8). I feel that the speaker is
reminiscing over how his father used to get him up early on Sunday mornings to
help with anything his father needed help with. I remember when I was a young
boy, my father would make me get up early on Saturday morning to help him cut
some yards he used to tell me early birds catch the worms back then I couldn t
understand why he was making me get up and go to work with him, but now I see
that he was only doing that to make me a man and also there was offices that I had
to do. The speaker attitude is most likely the same he is looking back when he was
younger seeing what his father was making him do was to make him a man and to
show him that he had to work to survive. Conclusion, The author Robert Hayden
feels that he will never know how much his father has done for him as a child. Not to
mention that his father went unrecognized for the acts he has done for his family.
Although, looking back the speaker is presently promoted by his image,
circumstances, and memory of his childhood
Disadvantages Of Modern Government
There is an on going debate as to the effectiveness and merits of the modern systems
of governments. It has been contested and argued as to whether a democratic system
of government is the best choice for a nation. If a democratic institution is decided
upon as the best course of action for said country, then the question becomes, which
type of democratic governmentis going to be set up. There are three types of
democratic government: presidential, semi presidential, and parliamentary. They
each have their own advantages and pit falls to be conscious and aware of but for the
scope of this paper, the objective is to define the advantages that are inherent in the
system of democracy that is the parliamentary systemthat has been set up in the...

Parliamentarianism is seen as less associated with corruption. Along with being seen
as less corrupt, it is seen as more stable than the other forms of government (Linz, p.
86) Going back to the American example, most of the citizens acknowledge that
there are a moderately high number of corrupt government officials and certain
citizens will state that the entire system is corrupt. A key difference of a
parliamentary system is the fact that elections can be called at any time to remove
people form office without creating a constitutional crisis (Linz, p. 86). This is not
the case in a parliamentary system. The spreading out of the power among different
post and offices has helped to somewhat eliminate the amount of power a person can
hold and also to limit the influence of that office. It seems, however, that a
parliamentary type system does a better job of containing or suppressing the
corruption. Corruption is one of the most destructive forces to a government. If the
government or regime becomes so corrupt that the people no longer respect the
institution or recognize it, they may lead a revolution that could result in a new
regime being set up, such as an authoritarian regime or even a totalitarian one. These
scenarios are extreme but are an actual possibility if the corrupt becomes widespread
and goes unchecked. In short, corruption can lead to chaos in the government and
chaos in
Andrew Crowe Monologue
Inspector Male, I just wanted to reach out and let you know the amazing efforts of
Andrew Crowe and Greg MacArthur on Monday December 28th. Sorry for the long
winded e mail but I think it s necessary.
Background: Sue Visser contacted me several months ago and purchased several
#K9HERO pups. She then went around to 50 different landmarks in Guelph and
took photos with #K9HRERO to help promote our Where is #K9HERO now
Twitter Social Media Campaign. She then brought me a thumb drive with the 50

knew and that one of the dogs she bought was going to be a gift when she went to
Sick Kids the next day where he is being treated for leukemia. At that time he was
very sick and had been hospitalized for a longtime. Sue told me Rohan s dream was
to grow up and be a race car driver or K9 officer.
A few days later she came back to the station to personally tell me how much Rohan
enjoyed the #K9HERO. She told me that they hoped he d be released in the next
few weeks so that he could come home for a bit. I asked her to let me know when
Rohan would be home so that we could try to plan a surprise home visit.

ASPCA Advertisement Analysis
Many ASPCA advertisements use a combination of different appeals to recruit
people, specifically pet owners, to donate to their important cause, which is saving
and rescuing endangered, neglected, and abused animals. The many different
strategies that the ASPCA advertisements use are ethos, pathos, logos, warm colors,
a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a
reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. I think that this is an
effective advertisement due to all of the strategies that they do use. In this
commercial it starts of with a sad song performed by Sarah McLachlan, and a fact that
every hour an animal is beaten or abused . This is a very good attention getter using
the appeal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because people will imagine that happening to their own loving pet and it
pulls on their heartstrings to help. People do not want to see animals, which are
pets hurting like they are in this commercial. They fear for these animals and want
them to feel that love that they give to their own animal. They use three different
but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The advertisement tells us
that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into
perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos
because they used someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA.
If it is someone we know, we as humans are more likely to listen to what they have
to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos. Pathos was used in many forms
in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that scrolled across
our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the
pictures showed. The words the Sarah said as well played into the appeal of pathos,
by saying these animals NEED your help . This appeal is the one that is suppose to
pull on ones emotions and it does just that in this
The Body Language
The term kinesics was coined by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell in 1952 and refers
to the interpretation of body movements, facial expressions, and gestures.
Understanding the grammar of kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful
longitudinal observations and are situationally dependent. To add to the issues not
everyone has the same body language, however, some nonverbal behaviors are
believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal.
Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative
offering a range of possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. For example
nail biting is obviously nervous behavior that I think all people recognize. However,
Joe Navarro claims that bouncing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It records memories of behaviors and is responsible for what we call emotions. The
hippocampus, amygdala, and hypothalamus are the main components of the limbic
brain. The limbic brain is where make value judgments that influence on our behavior.
It is thought that this part of the brain reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or
eliminate.
The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These
developed hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of
language, abstract thought, and consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless
learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic, and neocortex do not operate
independently. They have many connections with one another.
Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists
have suggested that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic
system remains the predominate explanation (both in neuroscience and popular
culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a flawed and inadequate theory of the
emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has trouble explaining
why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with cognition
and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is
assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many
researchers seem to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts.
Congenital Heart Disease
Etiology is essentially the cause of a disease or an otherwise abnormal condition.
This term is generally used by doctors and various other medical staff who study
disease. S S is an acronym for the term sudden and serious. This basically describes
conditions that require immediate medical attention and can end up being fatal
without immediate action.
Congenital heart disease in newborns is a very common birth defect and effects
roughly 1 in 100 or 1% of the babies born in the United States. Some of the heart
defects that are a part of congenital heart defects include, hypoplastic left heart
syndrome (HLHS), pulmonary atresia (PA), Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Total
anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPV/TAPVR), tricuspid atresia and many
more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tricuspid atresia is treated from birth and involve a combination of operations
within the first two years of life. Initially a cardia catheterization procedure is done
to evaluate the defects. Then generally 3 operations are done, including a Blalock
Taussig shunt, Glenn Shunt (done at 4 6 months of age) which replaces the initial
shunt, and finally a Fontan procedure (done at 2 3 years of age) which forms a
second that directs blood from the inferior vena cava to the right pulmonary artery.
The Glenn shunt is left in place. Aortic Valve Stenosis is a heart defect that is
either congenital or acquired. The disease itself can be described basically as the
inability of the valve to open completely. Atrial Septal defect is caused by an
opening the atrial septum, there are 2 ways it can be caused, including a congenital

What Are Foreigners Common Challenges
Foreigners Common Challenges In United States
In all aspects regarding socio cultural Identity, Immigrants are always being in the
spotlight of a controversial debate. Many of those debates still focus on the negative
images that portray qualified foreigners as miserable, uneducated, unmannerly
manners, and unreasonable. The United States has many things to offer to help build
a powerful chance of growth and to create an authentic pattern of multiculturalism. To
do so, the reality of globalization in America means to create a good atmosphere for
all foreigners, but it poses many challenges such as language, food, and
accommodations. In fact, newcomers in America face the difference between other

Also, the American accent is a very subtle test to always point out foreigners who
are still working on how to communicate eloquently because English always took
the first place in all transactions in the world. To be very practical, a foreigner
should increase its level of adoption to be more receptive around him. But people
must have to give some support between each community to learn how to
communicate, how do not judge the immigrants especially in the United States
where most communities come from somewhere instead of trying to assimilate all
those beautiful cultures and shared common goals. As has been noted, behind the
incredible satisfaction that has foreigners to join the US, there is still a lack of
enthusiasm to like ethnic foods and the differences between the most like and less
like. The adoption of some cuisines based on different countries like Chinese,
Italian or Japanese are really adapted because of the American s taste. For example,
the first thing we will be conducted to eat is a burger in a Mc Donald s the most

The Government Under Its Welfare Program
1.Introduction
In this essay we compare two policies which are proposed by the government under
its welfare program in order to encourage the consumption of other goods. There are
3 groups of individuals, consuming two baskets of goods, food beverages, and others.
The restriction faced by the government is that the utility cannot be changed, which
means keeping the consumers equally happy as they were without these policies
without changing the welfare. The aim of both policies is to increase the
consumption of other goods because the government believes that it would improve
the standard of living for the families and hence encourage the couples to create
families.
The purpose of this coursework is to assess which policy option is more effective in
achieving the government s targets. This paper will be based on technical approach
and scientific methods such as optimization, consumer theory, Slutsky decomposition
and appropriate graphs presented that are applied to accurately illustrate and analyse
the impact of the policies. Findings of this investigation have revealed that both
policies are not implementable and not consistent. But policy 2 is more effective
and is seen as clear winner when implemented since it is the only policy that
ultimately increases the consumption of other goods, however still needs some
intervention in terms of its improvement, whereas policy 1 is never effective as the
net effect is 0. Eventually this paper will draw a conclusion by reaching

metaphors such as For violent fires soon burn out themselves; (Act 2, Scene 1.

to say the fire will burn itself out. Meaning that Richard s actions during his rule
will cause the end of his reign. Richard s actions while ruling will cause the end

Essay On Lifting The Embargo
The Economic Impacts of the Embargo:
From the reasons behind the voices asking for lifting the embargo on Cuba is its
Economic impacts on the U.S. economy. Some politician s opinion is that beside the
failure of the embargo in achieving democracy in Cuba and removing Castro regime,
the embargo harms the U.S. economy as well. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce
opposes the embargo, stating that the U.S. policies impose real costs, and according
to a study by Taxes A M University in 2010, removing restrictions on the agricultural
products exported to Cuba and lifting travel ban would increase the U.S. exports by
$365 million and create 6000 new jobs in the United States. Also, some experts
believe that lifting the embargo would benefit agriculture, telecommunications,
tourism, and construction sectors.
Conversely, 90 percent of the Cuban economy is state owned and all the foreign trade
is channeled through the government agencies, lifting the embargo would benefit the
Cuban government and Castro regime not the people. Moreover, some economists
said that lifting the embargo would have a small effect on the U.S. economy.

many Americans who want to visit Cuba pay a lot of money or travel through a third

religious activities, or humanitarian work, and it doesn t include tourism. So, lifting
the embargo would allow many American tourists to travel to Cuba freely with lower
The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity
In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa
Yeung Nin Wa (2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the
new millennium and homage to past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion
and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads as a waltz throughout the entirety of the
film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan moves to the city with his
wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives in his
apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his
loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from
business, and both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective
spouses.
Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each
other s spouse reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The
protagonists constantly push each other s boundaries of propriety; their combined
desire for affection is an extension of the abandonment they feel from their spouses.

The research compiled here will attempt primarily to answer the following questions
for the layman: What is digital music distribution and why is it significant? Who are
the stakeholders in digital music distribution? and What are the primary drivers of the
imminent changes in the music industry? Formal reference material on this subject is
in short supply. As a result, opinions, facts, and statements made by stakeholders and
industry observers have been gathered from various articles published both in print

Xiao Ke Triple Heater
Xiao Ke portrays a number of diseases as it illustrates a Triple Heater (San Jiao)
imbalance, affecting primarily the Lungs, Spleen, and the Kidneys. The Triple
Heater mechanism distributes Qi into the organs, and deposits essential Qi into the
bladder shu points so they can receive the Qi. When there is damage to the Triple
Heater process, the heat dries up the water, then consuming the zang fu organs,
creating many complications. Therefore, to treat the internal organs, you must first
treat the San Jiao. The objective of this paper is to explore Xiao Ke in relation to the

The Science Of The Earth Essay
Introduction
The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth
science among others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of
planetary science while it possesses holistic and reductionist approaches in the
science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with lithosphere, atmosphere,
biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed by the
scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics,
chronology, biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.
Deliberations
According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by
geomagnetic storms have been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were
rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields
while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were witnessed due to activities that
happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s magnetic fields,
coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity
reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in
their frequency as magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the

Erasmus Programme And Its Impact On European Identity
The European Identity can be defined as a set of values shared by all the citizens
of the European Union. Then European Identity is supported European art, culture,
citizenship, common education for all EU members and more. (Dr Loredana,
2013). In this essay, it will explain the history of European Identity and explore the
definition of European Identity in relation to the Erasmus Programme, then I will
discuss the contribution of Erasmus Programme in developing the European
Identity. Nowadays Erasmus Programme is very popular as many universities
provide this programme, therefore, this essay will consider the pros and cons of
Erasmus Programme in the development of a European Identity. The argument will
be supported by authors such as Papatsiba (2009) and Jacobone and Moro (2014)
that agreed that Erasmus Programme indeed does develop European Identity. In
contrast, Sigalas (2010) and Wilson (2011) will argue Erasmus Programme does not
have a huge impact on European Identity. The declaration of European Identity
occurred on 14 December 1973 in Copenhagen, it is published by the Nine Member
Countries of the European Communities, which are Germany, France, Italy, the
Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The European Identity was created because everything such as the economy, social
and political broke down during the long process of World War I and to the final of
World War II. Therefore with European Identity, it was like a
The Reader Movie Vs Book
Thesis: The novel The Reader by Bernhard Schlink and the motion picture adapted
from the novel are diverse in many different ways. While both the film and the
novel explore Hana s character and explore her relationship with Michael, many
differences can be seen. In the movie and novel, The Reader, the director and the
author battle the idea of love and justification in Michael and Hana s relationship and
envision Hana s characterto be drastically different.
Topic 1: Hana and Michael s Relationship
Why did you behave as if you didn t know me (47)
This is the first glimpse of how the director and author view Hana and Michael s
relationship. Not only does the director cut out the text You don t have the power to

In the book, the scene illustrates the power and control Hana has or is trying to
gain back in their relationship. The belt scene in the movie, however, is Hana
slapping Michael after he forces her to kiss her. It seems that every action Hana did
in the movie was justified when in the book some actions and scenes including the
belt scene seemed unrationed. The director again is trying to express that Hana is not
as controlling and manipulative as she is in the book.
Topic 2: Hana s character
She had a very strong, feminine body (15), The body beneath it strong and reliable
(71)
It is apparent in the movie that Hana s character doesn t follow Schlink s
description of Hana. Rather than Hana looking like a strong woman with broad
shoulders, the audience see s a gentle, almost fragile type of Hana. The director may
be showcasing that they don t believe that Michael is all truthful in his retelling of
the story. This idea is also consistent with the fact that Hana doesn t show aspects of a
guard figure, and causes the audience to question whether she really did or wanted to

Film Analysis Of swallowtail Butterfly
In this paper, I ll mainly focus on movie Swallowtail Butterfly (1996) and discuss it
from three perspectives: its artistic filming style and techniques, passive kokusaika
and it influenced by exotic culture. Despite some similarities with other movies,
Swallowtail Butterfly is trying to set itself apart from convention by highlighting its
unique artistic value and presenting unconventional perspective of a trendy topic. If I
regard the appreciation of Swallowtail Butterfly as an evolutionary process, the first
thing I realize might be its very artistic filming style. Shunji Iwaiadopts some film
techniques which often appear in the movies of 6th generation directors. But
unlike 6th generation directors who constantly pursue realism in their movie, by
the use of color, music and composition, Shunji Iwai injects considerable artistic
value into this movie and he makes use of the artistic value to achieve an utopian
vision of Yen Town. The artistic filming style and utopian vision of Yen Town

Netflix s Dominance Of Our Homes And Screens
Abstract
Netflix started the campaign on a positive note by capturing a larger customer base
with DVD by mail business. The success was short lived due to increasing logistics
and inventory cost. Also with the advent of digital era, DVD by mail fell out of favor.
Netflix figured out the loophole and decided to tap into the online streaming market
with content marketing. With exciting new features, constant updates and recent
expansion of customer base by providing its streaming services in India, Netflix has

from Amazon Prime and Amazon Instant Video, both of which were offered by

evolve its business model and differentiate itself in order to capture value and regain
profitability. The evolved business model focused on content marketing. Here are few
ways the video streaming and DVD by mail giant is winning at content marketing.

its Recommended For You sections on the website and app. This allowed the users
greater engagement with the content based on their individual interests and allowed
Netflix to market specific content to the customers.

Taking a Look at Professional Procrastination
By definition, the act of procrastinating is to postpone an event until a later time. We
as humans have all delayed something in our lives, either related to school, work, or
social activities. Although anything in life has the potential to be postponed or put
off until the last minute, procrastination is more commonly seen in schools and
colleges among students. There are several reasons why students put off assignments,
but, the main reason is that they do not take pleasure in doing their homework. Even
though some students are unsuccessful in their dawdling, many students are often
successful and benefit from saving coursework until the last minute . Taking a look at
this process, we can see that procrastinating may actually save time and energy.
The first step in the procrastination process is to make a conscious decision to
postpone a project until a later date. Upon receiving a homework assignment,
students will often look over what they will be asked to do. If they are discontented
by what they are presented with, thoughts such as I do not want to do this or I will
do this later will spring up in their brain. After a student has either of the previous
thoughts, they then put the assignment in their folder or binder and do not touch it
until later. Frequently a student has no motivation to begin an essay, for example,
right after receiving the prompt because there is no pressure to complete it in a short
time. Since there is no drive to work on the essay, the
Hunger Games Analysis
Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel about the adventures of
Katniss Everdeen, who is forced to battle against other children in a fight to the death
tournament. Throughout the novel, Katniss appears to be saved by luck in many
near death situations. She is fortunate when her backpack protects her from a knife
and when she chooses a tree with a tracker jacker nest. Many believe Katniss
survives because she has never ending luck in the arena. This assumption may be
true; however, the other tributes aid Katniss throughout the games. She becomes
dependent on other people to make decisions easier for her. Luck does not play a role
in Katniss survival because the other tributes actions save her in life threatening
situations.
The first incident where Katniss appears to be lucky is at the start of the games.
After the gong rings, Katniss heads towards the Cornucopia, even though
Haymitch tells her not to. She finds an orange backpack and runs to it. Another
tribute also grabs it and he becomes an issue for Katniss. They start to fight for the
backpack and Katniss almost loses the fight until she see[s] the knife in his back
(150). The boy is dead and is killed by the girl from District Two, Clove. Katniss
quickly realizes that she is now the next target to die. Eventually, she escapes and
runs into the forest where she is far away from the other tributes. Katniss seems
lucky that she gets out of the Cornucopia alive because the Cornucopia is where most
of the tributes die on the first day.
Katniss escapes the Cornucopia not from luck, but because of Clove. When Clove
throws the knife into the boy s back, it gives Katniss an opportunity to grab the
pack. Because she kills the boy, Clove unintentionally gives Katniss the pack that
contains survival items. Later on, Katniss uses the supplies to help her adapt in the
arena. Clove s actions also save Katniss from being killed on day one of the games
because the boy Clove killed could have killed Katniss. There is a good chance
Katniss would be dead if Clove did not kill the boy. It is not her bravery, skills, or
even luck that saves Katniss in the early moments of the games; it was Clove s
actions that leads to Katniss surviving the first day of

Vindication Of Woman
The Vindication of the Rights of Woman postulates a revolutionary idea certainly for
the era in which it was published that in the struggle for the rights and equality of
man, one must also give such heed to the rights of women. Mary Wollstonecraft
adheres to the fact that the more specious slavery which chains the very soul of
woman, keeping her forever under the bondage of ignorance is the cornerstone of a
system of female inequality during the eighteenth century. In this essay, I will focus
on the statement:
Would men but generously snap our chains, and be content with rational fellowship,
instead of slavish obedience, they would find us more observant daughters, more
affectionate sisters, more faithful wives, more reasonable mothers in a word, better
citizens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst not literally true, the symbolic language which Wollstonecraft uses, forces the
reader to understand the man/woman relationship as purely hierarchical; man has
dominion over his wife, his mother and daughter, perhaps even other women.
Wollstonecraft likens the woman as property where all are aiming to procure respect
on account of their property: and property, once gained, will procure the respect due
only to talents and virtue . Such a relationship must seem harsh to the modern reader.
However, Wollstonecraft s dichotomy of husband to wife with owner to slave is
nothing further than the application of household duty. Controversially,
Wollstonecraft believes True happiness, I mean all the contentment, and virtuous
satisfaction that can be snatched in this imperfect state, must arise from well
regulated affections; and an affection includes a duty , referring to the mothering role
of the wife, as the father looks on to appreciate his child being nursed. This duty it
seems, are the chains that render women

Does The Prime Minister Have Too Much Power
The downfall of Canada and its democracy lays in the hands of the prime minister.
Second to the governor general the prime minister holds the single highest power an
individual in parliament can obtain. The unrestricted power given to them, discussed

Canadaand its ideologies are being skewed and altered to benefit the prime minister.
Throughout the paper we will examine the defective parliamentary system,
addressing the specific powers that enable the prime ministers to silence Parliament.
Although various arguments are made throughout the paper, the focus will be on the
overwhelming evidence supporting the thesis that the prime minister has too much

Texas Constitution Vs Us Constitution Essay
The Texas Constitution and the United States Constitution have many similarities and
differences. For example, they both have a Bill of Rights and both work hard to be
sure to protect the rights of their citizens. They both deal with the privacy of their
citizens but the Texas constitution is very verbose while the U.S. Constitutionis very
brief and to the point. The Texas Constitution also outlines strict laws regarding the
states spending requirements.
Both the Texas and the U.S. Constitution have a Bill of Rights, checks and balances,
and have divided government via lower and higher powers. The U.S. Constitution
was created to give the government power, in contrast the Texas constitution made
sure that the main government does not have too much power over the Texas
citizens. The founding fathers of the Texas constitution were wary of the government
wielding too much power so they wanted to be careful to protect themselves. A
similaritiy between the U.S. and Texas Constitutions include the fact that both have a

years in loneliness; just to end up trapped again as she was taken to jail. In the
cold, gloomy farm house kitchen Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hales quickly started an
investigation of their own. Their investigation was conveyed through
characterization, symbolism, and irony. Through characterization Mrs. Hale and
Mrs. Peters bonded quickly and trusted each other to keep the secret of the
evidence concealed. The nervous stitching of the quilt was fixed by Mrs. Hale bad
sewing always made me fidgety. However, we know Mrs. Hale was trying to protect

women knew at that point who the murderer was, but neither said a word aloud, nor

research problem, the purpose of the study, provided definitions, assumptions and
limitations to the study, and presented four research questions for this feasibility
study: 1. What are the operating costs associated with raising natural grass fed
cattle? 2. Can the North Platte area sustain a natural grass fed cattle ranch? 3. Will

within five years? Chapter 2 reviewed literature gathered by the researcher to conduct
the feasibility study. This literature examines 10 aspects of establishing and operating
a natural grass fed cattle ranch. Scholarly research indicated that cattle breed, land
management, and disease control are the three most
The Skeleton Key Quotes
The Skeleton Key is a movie about the belief in the magic centered practice of
Hoodoo. The movie s protagonist, Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic.
Caroline views the people and culture of New Orleans through an etic lens. For
example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching the mansion,
she noticed all of the Hoodoo artifacts and freaked out. She had no idea of what she
walked into and wanted to quickly get away. She makes many ethnocentric
judgements of the people and culture. During the course of the film, Caroline s belief
starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her
current belief system. Towards the end of the film she was immersed in the culture of

At the beginning of the movie, Caroline is a disbeliever. On her way to be
interviewed for the role of Ben s carer, she visits a gas station that has brick dust
lining the entrance. While trying to pay for the gas she interrupts a ritual at the
back of the gas station. She also discovers a room in Violet s attic containing
Hoodoo paraphernalia. These events mark Caroline s initiation into the existence
of Hoodoo. The next phase marks her increasing awareness of Hoodoo practices
and its associated beliefs. During this phase, she has a number of conversations
with her former roommate, who explains the differences between Hoodoo and
Voodoo and that Hoodoo cannot harm someone if they do not believe in it. That
is, without belief, Hoodoo loses its potency. Her roommate s aunt owns a Hoodoo
shop, where Caroline later acquires the components for the spell she performs on
Ben and also learns that brick dust is used in Hoodoo magic to provide a protective
barrier to stop someone with ill intent from crossing a threshold. When Caroline s
spell works on Ben, it allows him to ask her for help in leaving and also allows him
to indicate Violet as the person responsible for his condition. Caroline s willingness
to be Ben s advocate and potential savior makes her begin to believe in the power
of Hoodoo, if only on behalf of her patient. To test Violet s intent, Caroline uses
brick dust to line the threshold of her room and engineers a situation where she
invites Violet into her room. Violet s wish to do her harm is confirmed when Violet
is unable to cross the threshold. This also confirms the protective power of the brick
dust and Caroline s growing belief in Hoodoo. Later, when Violet is chasing
Caroline, Caroline uses brick dust along the doorways throughout the house to form a
Natural Glow Research Paper
I used to think that in order to achieve the glow , it was all about the skincare. So I
bought the most expensive skin care products and sure, my skin looked good, but it
was still lacking that natural glow. So I went on a mission; a mission to find the
secret to the question, how do I achieve that glow from within?
Now, let me preface it by saying that I m not a doctor and everything I ll share is
based on my own research and what has worked for me, but I am constantly trying
new health and beauty products/ideas/routines. With that being said, let me share
with you my findings thus far, because I want all of us to feel and look our best. I
hope you will join me on this journey to achieve and maintain that true glow from
within.
There are three important things that I ve found always work for me: diet, exercise,
and sleep. Simple enough, right? Yes, it is that simple, and today I will focus on the
first ingredient to healthy and glowing skin: diet. ... Show more content on

Mt Vesuvius Research Paper
There is no possible way the image above will help historians better understand the
events following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. First of all, this picture
was of before the volcano erupted, when the clouds of hot ash were billowing above
this city of Pompeii. Any ideas that historians came up with ――from just looking
at this picture―― about the events following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius,
would be inferences, because it is impossible to get information about what happened
after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius from looking at a picture of what the city of
Pompeiilooked like before the eruption. This image is a secondary source, since it
computer generated, and they didn t have computers at the time of Pompeii. A primary
Examples Of Insecurity In Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak
There are times in your life where you feel insecure, either you feel lonely or
betrayed. The times when you feel insecure you feel down or like the world s
going to end because you re not the form of perfect . In this generation, they re
people who seem to have a perfect life, perfect everything. But when you feel
insecure, they are ups and downs and hurdles over the insecurity. There are times
when I do feel insecure but then when I think about how life precious is, how
people commit suicide over something so stupid, it s a big problem. You shouldn t
worry about insecurities because they bring you down and you have a full life to
live still. Insecurity is a big problem in today s world, generation. By having

American girl on the outside for Robert to like her, but if Robert really likes her,
he shouldn t care about appearances or how a girl looks, he should focus on

Mrs. Ryan and the Priest Influence Jackie s Attitude To...
How do Mrs. Ryan and the priest influence Jackie s attitude to religion?
First Confession is the story of how Jackie, a seven year old boy, makes his first
confession before his first communion. The story takes place in Ireland at the
beginning of the 20th century and is based on O Connor s own childhood. It is
interesting to see how two opposite characters, Mrs. Ryan and the priest, can influence
so much the kid s thoughts: Mrs. Ryan instills him fear while the priest helps him to
overcome this fear.
Mrs. Ryan is the women encharged of preparing Jackie and his class mates to take

to bypass confession by staying at home the day he was going to confess at school.
But that wasn t enough to escape from it, even though he was scared to death.
Jackies second link to religion was the priest with whom he made his first
confession. Jackie immediately likes the priest as he defends him from his sister
Nora the moment he meets him. After calling Nora a vixen and Jackie a poor man
and big hefty fellow , Jackie thinks he is intelligent above ordinary , and immediately
tells him his major sin. Although it takes him a while to react, the priest seems to
understand Jackie when he s told that he planned to kill his grandmother with a
kitchen knife, and shows interest in the kids plans. This makes Jackie feel close to
the priest and really comfortable, to the extent of being sorry of having to leave. He
thought he was the most interesting character he d ever met in the religious line , and

MACHINE QUICK RETURN MECHANISM 2.1 Objective The objective of this
experiment is to investigate the performance of a whitworth quick turn motion and
to verify that the motion does have a quick return stroke and a slow cutting or
forward stroke. 2.2 Theory Definition of a mechanism Mechanisms are a simplified
model, usually in the form of a line diagram, which is used to reproduce exactly the
motion occurring in a machine. The purpose if this reproduction is to enable the
nature of the motion to be investigated without the encumbrance of the various
solid bodies which forms the machine elements. 2.3 Whitworth s quick return
mechanism WHITWORTH S MECHANISM The above diagram shows the
mechanism as used on the apparatus. Link 1 on the top diagram is extended to
point A. attach to point A is another link with pivot. The other end of this link
terminated in a slider. In a machine tool where this mechanism is used the cutting
tool is attached to this slider. The link POA rotates about an O. The mechanism is
driven by crank PC which rotates at about C with constant velocity. The slider at P
slides along POA as the crank is turned. Its path is shown by the dashed circle,
centered on C and through P. Clearly when P is at P1 the slider S is at the outer
extremity of its travel .When P is at P2 the slider S is at the inner extremity of its
travel. Now as PC rotates with constant velocity the time taken to go from P1 to P2
is less than that taken to go from P2 to P1. However
White Collar Crime Is Now Becoming More Widely
Introduction
In today s society, white collar crime is now becoming more widely known
because of the advancement of technological devices and brilliant minds. In fact,
over 730,000 counts of suspected financial wrongoing were recorded in America
last year, according to recent data from the Treasury Department s Financial
Crimes Enforcement Network (The Economist, 2009). White Collar Crime is a
term reportedly coined in 1939 is now synonymous with the full range of frauds
committed by business and government professionals including one of the many
called Check Kiting (FBI, 2010). White collar crime is described by the federal
bureau investigation (FBI) in three words: Lying, cheating, and stealing which is
exactly the kind of people that Scott in this case analysis has to deal with. In this
case, the Operations Manager, Scott at a small bank has the duties of overseeing
transactions and defining clients who use bad checks. While going through the daily
routine, he finds that his wife s friend, who is the chief financial officer of the bank,
appears to be involved in check kiting. According to the business dictionary, check
Kiting is a form of check fraud, in which checks are issued against funds that a bank
has credited into an account for deposited, uncleared checks. With careful timing of
deposits and withdrawals, this scam can be turned into a large sum. Furthermore, In
addition to knowing the suspect, Scott also is aware the CFO is also involved in an

Reflection Paper On I Am Invincible
I like to assume I am invincible, that nothing terrible will ever happen to me. It
wasn t until my life started to fall to pieces that I realized I had to try just as hard
as everyone else in this world. Having too much pride, or what some refer to as
tragic flaw, will almost definitely lead to one s downfall. Personally, my problem
was that my understanding of the law was simplistic. All the rules that responsible
citizens follow day in and day out somehow didn t apply to me. I could pick fights,
I could stay out past curfew, I could vandalize others property, and it would never
come back to hurt me. In fact, I was not only hurting myself but all those around me.
My father, my girlfriend, and everyone who was only trying to help me had suffered
through me being the manipulative addict I was.
A sincere saying is that, People who use others as stepping stones , eventually lose
their balance . I have not only stepped, however stomped on a multitude of people
in my life. For instance, I have stolen from my own family s wallets in order to get
my fix. In this past year I have had to reteach myself how to live. I needed
consequences to change. It wasn t until I started to realize I wasn t invincible that I
started to realize the way I was approaching every situation in my life was no longer
going to work. After I spent time in jail, and having time to ponder the decisions I
had made to put me there; I realized my life, as I was living it, was not doing
anything for me. It was getting me nowhere in life, costing absurd amounts of money,
destroying relationships, and making me unhappy. The only thingI have been looking
for my whole life is happiness, chasing it with substances for a temporary fix. In
reality, I was making myself more miserable. Beverly Daniel Tatumstates in her
article, The Complexity of Identity: Who Am I, :
Triggered by the biological changes associated with puberty, the maturation of
cognitive abilities, and changing societal expectations, this process of simultaneous
reflection and observation, the self creation of one s identity, is commonly
experienced in the United States and other Western societies during the period of
adolescence. (par. 6)
My identity came about by all the experiences

participated in a Socratic Discussion using the research of their chosen topic on
genetically modified organisms. They had to write down 3 arguments for and 3
arguments against genetically modifying their organism before the Socratic
discussion. They also prepared notes on their chromebook that they could use
during the seminar if they felt they needed to refer back to them. Following up to
this lesson, I have shown examples of a good Socratic seminar utilizing a video from
YouTube. This gave the students a clear perspective on the expectations set for them.

Witches And The Witch Trials
In Europe from the late fifteenth to early seventeenth centuries many people, both
men and women, were persecuted as witches. The reasons for the persecution of
individuals as witches included gender discrimination, religious fanaticism, an
explanation for the otherwise unexplainable events that took place, and even as a
way for secular officials to gain more wealth. Misogyny being a cause to the witch
trials may have resulted from the new roles of women in society conflicting with the
traditional views of women as sinful, and also accounts for why the majority of
individuals persecuted were women. A religious spark was ignited during the
Protestant Reformationas people became more religiously devoted and wanted to
eliminate threats to their faith, such as witches. Many strange occurrences such as
disease or even non harmful events that were simply unexplainable led people to
believe witches as the causes. Some people may have not even believed another
person to be a witch but may have just wanted wealth and that person s possessions
and declared them a witch for that reason. All these factors contributed to the period
now known as the witch craze, which resulted in the torture and death of many people.
One of the main factors in the persecution of witches comes from the men of the time
s misogynistic attitudes. During this time, women were beginning to take more
prominent roles in society, like the notable humanist Christine de Pizan or The First

Essay on Nicolai Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus
Have you ever wondered who discovered that the sun is the center of our universe?
If so, the answer is Nicolai Copernicus. This man was a well respected as well as well
educated man. He explored many different subjects including mathematics, medicine,
canon law, and his favorite astronomy. The Earth centered universeof Aristotle and
Ptolemy were Western thinking for almost 2000 years until the 16th century when
Copernicus proposed his theory.
Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Thorn, Poland. He was the youngest
son of four children and the son of a prosperous merchant. Following his father s
death, his Uncle Lukas Watzelrode, bishop of Ermland, adopted him. Copernicus
began his studies in Thorn and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This called for Epicycles, an orbit upon another orbit. This meant the planets made a
second revolution in an orbit tangent to the original orbit around the Earth, which
made the system very cluttered and difficult to understand.3 Copernicus did not do
away with the Epicycles, but by moving the sun to the center there were much less
Epicycles which intern made everything easier to understand. He called this system
the Heliocentric System. The sun was the center and the earth was just another planet
that revolved around the sun. The stars where distant objects that do not revolve,
because the earth rotates once in 24 hours the stars appear to revolve around the Earth
in the opposite direction.
Both scholars and the church accepted the Ptolemaic system. Copernicus hesitated to
announce his heliocentric view for fear of a trail for heresy.4 The Ptolemaic system
could easily be believed if one assumed the Christian belief that the Earth was the
center of the universe God created. People were afraid to believe a theory that went
against the Bible s teachings. His friends who were interested in his theories
persuaded him to write at least an abstract for them. He entitled it the Commentariolus
(Commentary). This commentary stated his theory in the form of seven axioms,
reserving the mathematical part for the principle work. From this, the doctrine of the
heliocentric system began to spread.
A few years later Cardinal Schonberg, then Archbishop of Capua urged
How My Faith Changed My Life
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps
covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to
a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9). Through all generations of my family
leading up to today, my family, on my mother and father s sides, all practice the same
faith. All of my family is Catholic, most of my friends growing up were catholic,
and everywhere I looked, my faith was an important part of my life. I went to
private school for nine years; the same one many of my cousins and my siblings
attended. All of the people around me when I was a child prayed and worshiped like
I was taught to do. They were the ones that influenced me to go deeper into my faith.
Through the daily religionclasses and weekly masses, to the teachers and priest that
influenced my morals and values, I look back on those days as times I cherish. I had
learned to open my heart and let others in to take a part in my life. I set boundaries
for myself to be a respectful person and keep my faith. And most importantly, I am a
life worth living as we are all made from the same image of God. Private school is the
reason I am the person I have grown to be today and I will become tomorrow.
In the beginning of my personal journey, I had to learn to open up to the world
around me and accept everyone for who they were and what they believe in. My
limits have been tested over the years with people I thought were closest to me. With

Target Corporation s Dealing with a Data Security Breach
In 2013, Target Corp., the company that prides itself on offering quality, upscale,
and trendy merchandise at lower costs, had anticipated a historic year. However,
after purchasing Canadian retailer Zellers 273 locations and finally executing plans
to expand outside the United States, both company and stockholder optimism
vanished. In late 2013, news of a massive data breach affecting nearly 110 million
consumers turned out devastatingly bad numbers in the fourth quarter some
experts even calling it the second largest retail cyber attack in history. As the
holiday season approached, analysts had expected Target s earnings to be flat
compared to the previous year, 2012, when the Minneapolis based retailer posted
fourth quarter earnings at $921 million. However, after news of the breach and its
ongoing investigation became public, many consumers, uncertain about the extent
of the breach, chose to shop with Target s competitors during the holidays. Target s
best public relations efforts could not completely ease consumer concerns. Sales in
the last week of the holiday season fell by nearly 4 percent, compared to other
retailers, which devastated the traditionally strong retailer as holiday sales account
for 20 to 40 percent of annual sales. Target ended the quarter with $520 million in
earnings, down almost 45 percent from 2012. Breaking News Popular tech security

  • 2. Theme Of Vengeance In The Oresteia Orestes has to kill her (Zeitlin, 476). The view of vengeance in Aeschylus s The Oresteia also depends on the situation the person enacting the vengeance is in beforehand. Another component that changes the view of vengeance is what situation the character is in; meaning how the murderer is related to the victim and the position they are in at the time or before. Clytemnestra is in a situation where her husband kills their daughter and she can either retaliate or live with the fact that Iphigenia is dead. She chooses to kill her husband and she does not have any support other than that of Aegisthus. Orestes is basically forced into killing his mother and Aegisthus by Apollo and people around him like his sister Electra and the Chorus as well as his friend Pylades. In the beginning of Liberation Bearers, Orestes comes back and encounters his sister Electra at their father s grave. During their reacquaintance, Orestes tells Electra that he has been ordered to kill Clytemnestra and Aegisthus by Apollo, ...if I failed to kill my father s killers.......to kill the two of them as they killed him, in the same way. He said that otherwise I d pay the debt with my own life, and it would be a life of torment that would never end (Aeschylus, Liberation Bearers lines 307 313). He has this threat hanging over his head and any time he starts to waver, his friend Pylades, his sister, and the chorus encouraged him. the third and last storm battering their house. In the end, Orestes does in fact come third and as a saviour. Before entering the palace he rehearses the piece of deceit by which he wraps his mother and Aegisthus in their own toils. As he puts it before his sister and the confederate chorus of Trojan captives, he will not give Aegisthus time to ask from where he has come , this shows that he has a lot of support behind him in this endeavor in addition to the support of Apollo (Clay, 4). After he kills his mother and her lover, he has to wash his hands of the blood and, to be cured, he must journey to the oracle of Delphi (Burke, 382). Orestes kills his mother, subsequently he begins to see the furies that are coming after him (Burke, 382). The Furies that are now pursuing him punish blood guilt (Burke, 382)
  • 3. Analysis Of Dance And The Dance World To speak about the impacts that bellydance has on dance and the dance world, it s history must be explained. Belly dance is one of the oldest, if not the oldest dance form known to have existed. The origin of this dance is said to be in Egypt, Turkey and India. Much debate goes on about where people believe that it came from but the truth is, with so many forms of this dance sprouting from the main, there is no specific enough place where this style of dance can be said to have originated. The origin of the name belly danceis said to be from the French phrase; danse du ventre , meaning dance of the stomach. The more traditional name is Middle Eastern dance, but over time the western world has given it a new name. This dance originates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are able to just feel the rhythm when they dance because the music is within them. The fact that many of the first paintings of dance are ones found in sacred sites such as the temples and tombs of Egypt, Greece and India, it may make sense to say that dance was initially performed in light of spiritual occasions. These dances are not ones for our own entertainment, but more so to worship the human body, a rite of passage or to just get together. It is said that bellydanceis a sort of language. To master this art; hours, days, months and maybe even years of practice may be necessary. The idea that belly dance began with goddess worshipping ceremonies is that if women were to practice this form of dance, they will be more likely to become fertile. This idea is one that many people may find difficult to relate but if someone tries hard enough, it will come to them and they may be able to try it for themselves. The fluid body movements make it easier for the woman to prepare herself for childbirth. The movements make is possible for the expecting mother to have overall shorter labors and less need for interventions such as C Section. While in the stomach, the growing baby gets more oxygen and nutrients delivered , through these belly dance movements that the mother is creating with her body. The mother also becomes more fit

It also holds venous sinuses between its two layers to drain the venous blood out of the cranial cavity and brain. The middle arachnoid mater (meaning spider web membrane) is thin and has an underlying meshwork of subarachnoid space containing major blood vessels, their branches and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The arachnoid membrane forms protrusions called arachnoid villi/ granulations that project into the dural venous sinuses for drainage of the CSF. The CSF forms a watery cushion that provides additional protection, allows buoyancy of the brain making it lighter in weight and acts as lymph for volumetric balance, metabolic and excretory functions. The inner pia mater (meaning soft mother), is also a very thin vascular layer that is firmly connected with the neuroglial tissue in the brain and spinal cord. It conveys the blood vessels and hence nutrition and oxygen into the substance of the brain and spinal cord. The arachnoid and piamater are together also referred to as leptomeninges (lepto means thin and delicate) (Table

  • 7. Those Winter Sundays Literary Devices Analyzing of the poem Those Winter Sundays The speaker s has some images of his childhood years with his father in early Sundays mornings. In the poem Those Winter Sundays the speaker s present attitude is prompted by his Image, Circumstances, and Memory of his childhood relationship with his father s First, The speaker s uses clear and powerful images in the poem he speaks of the cold as Blue black cold (lines 2) to let the readers know what time of year it was in other words he describes Blue Black Cold (2) is not something you can feel, but the speaker uses it to so you can get the image of how it looks rather than just how it feels. However, the speaker also uses another image of his childhood the Fire Blaze (5). The speaker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hayden remembers his father waking up early on Sunday morning hands that ached from labor in the weekday (4) his father would call for him early that morning and Hayden would put on his clothes to get his day started with his father rather if it was helping his father start a fire to keep the house warm, he would get up and help his father fearing the chronic anger of that house. (8). I feel that the speaker is reminiscing over how his father used to get him up early on Sunday mornings to help with anything his father needed help with. I remember when I was a young boy, my father would make me get up early on Saturday morning to help him cut some yards he used to tell me early birds catch the worms back then I couldn t understand why he was making me get up and go to work with him, but now I see that he was only doing that to make me a man and also there was offices that I had to do. The speaker attitude is most likely the same he is looking back when he was younger seeing what his father was making him do was to make him a man and to show him that he had to work to survive. Conclusion, The author Robert Hayden feels that he will never know how much his father has done for him as a child. Not to mention that his father went unrecognized for the acts he has done for his family. Although, looking back the speaker is presently promoted by his image, circumstances, and memory of his childhood
  • 8. Disadvantages Of Modern Government There is an on going debate as to the effectiveness and merits of the modern systems of governments. It has been contested and argued as to whether a democratic system of government is the best choice for a nation. If a democratic institution is decided upon as the best course of action for said country, then the question becomes, which type of democratic governmentis going to be set up. There are three types of democratic government: presidential, semi presidential, and parliamentary. They each have their own advantages and pit falls to be conscious and aware of but for the scope of this paper, the objective is to define the advantages that are inherent in the system of democracy that is the parliamentary systemthat has been set up in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parliamentarianism is seen as less associated with corruption. Along with being seen as less corrupt, it is seen as more stable than the other forms of government (Linz, p. 86) Going back to the American example, most of the citizens acknowledge that there are a moderately high number of corrupt government officials and certain citizens will state that the entire system is corrupt. A key difference of a parliamentary system is the fact that elections can be called at any time to remove people form office without creating a constitutional crisis (Linz, p. 86). This is not the case in a parliamentary system. The spreading out of the power among different post and offices has helped to somewhat eliminate the amount of power a person can hold and also to limit the influence of that office. It seems, however, that a parliamentary type system does a better job of containing or suppressing the corruption. Corruption is one of the most destructive forces to a government. If the government or regime becomes so corrupt that the people no longer respect the institution or recognize it, they may lead a revolution that could result in a new regime being set up, such as an authoritarian regime or even a totalitarian one. These scenarios are extreme but are an actual possibility if the corrupt becomes widespread and goes unchecked. In short, corruption can lead to chaos in the government and chaos in
  • 9. Andrew Crowe Monologue Inspector Male, I just wanted to reach out and let you know the amazing efforts of Andrew Crowe and Greg MacArthur on Monday December 28th. Sorry for the long winded e mail but I think it s necessary. Background: Sue Visser contacted me several months ago and purchased several #K9HERO pups. She then went around to 50 different landmarks in Guelph and took photos with #K9HRERO to help promote our Where is #K9HERO now Twitter Social Media Campaign. She then brought me a thumb drive with the 50 pics for us to use. As we chatted she told me about Rohan, a 7 years old boy she knew and that one of the dogs she bought was going to be a gift when she went to Sick Kids the next day where he is being treated for leukemia. At that time he was very sick and had been hospitalized for a longtime. Sue told me Rohan s dream was to grow up and be a race car driver or K9 officer. A few days later she came back to the station to personally tell me how much Rohan enjoyed the #K9HERO. She told me that they hoped he d be released in the next few weeks so that he could come home for a bit. I asked her to let me know when Rohan would be home so that we could try to plan a surprise home visit. • 10. ASPCA Advertisement Analysis Many ASPCA advertisements use a combination of different appeals to recruit people, specifically pet owners, to donate to their important cause, which is saving and rescuing endangered, neglected, and abused animals. The many different strategies that the ASPCA advertisements use are ethos, pathos, logos, warm colors, a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. I think that this is an effective advertisement due to all of the strategies that they do use. In this commercial it starts of with a sad song performed by Sarah McLachlan, and a fact that every hour an animal is beaten or abused . This is a very good attention getter using the appeal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because people will imagine that happening to their own loving pet and it pulls on their heartstrings to help. People do not want to see animals, which are pets hurting like they are in this commercial. They fear for these animals and want them to feel that love that they give to their own animal. They use three different but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The advertisement tells us that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos because they used someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA. If it is someone we know, we as humans are more likely to listen to what they have to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos. Pathos was used in many forms in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that scrolled across our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the pictures showed. The words the Sarah said as well played into the appeal of pathos, by saying these animals NEED your help . Understanding the grammar of kinesics can be difficult because it requires careful longitudinal observations and are situationally dependent. To add to the issues not everyone has the same body language, however, some nonverbal behaviors are believed to originate from the limbic brain and are universal. Much of the interpretation of kinesics seems to be in some cases speculative offering a range of possibilities and other interpretations are obvious. It records memories of behaviors and is responsible for what we call emotions. The hippocampus, amygdala, and hypothalamus are the main components of the limbic brain. The limbic brain is where make value judgments that influence on our behavior. It is thought that this part of the brain reacts reflexively and is difficult to disguise or eliminate. The neocortex first appeared in primates and is most developed in humans. These developed hemispheres are thought to be responsible for the development of language, abstract thought, and consciousness. The neocortex has almost limitless learning abilities. However, the reptilian, limbic, and neocortex do not operate independently. They have many connections with one another. Terms for these parts of the brain originated in the 1940s, and some neuroscientists have suggested that the concept should be abandoned. However, while the limbic system remains the predominate explanation (both in neuroscience and popular culture) of how the brain makes emotion, it is a flawed and inadequate theory of the emotional brain (LeDoux 2003). The limbic system theory has trouble explaining why damage to limbic areas like the hippocampus can result in deficits with cognition and memory. When the limbic system is activated in a purely cognitive task it is assumed that there must have been some emotional component to the task. Many researchers seem to think this explanation is based in tradition rather than facts.

Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan moves to the city with his wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives in his apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his loneliness and marital strife. We as humans have all delayed something in our lives, either related to school, work, or social activities. Although anything in life has the potential to be postponed or put off until the last minute, procrastination is more commonly seen in schools and colleges among students. There are several reasons why students put off assignments, but, the main reason is that they do not take pleasure in doing their homework. Even though some students are unsuccessful in their dawdling, many students are often successful and benefit from saving coursework until the last minute . Taking a look at this process, we can see that procrastinating may actually save time and energy. The first step in the procrastination process is to make a conscious decision to postpone a project until a later date. Upon receiving a homework assignment, students will often look over what they will be asked to do. If they are discontented by what they are presented with, thoughts such as I do not want to do this or I will do this later will spring up in their brain. After a student has either of the previous thoughts, they then put the assignment in their folder or binder and do not touch it until later. Frequently a student has no motivation to begin an essay, for example, right after receiving the prompt because there is no pressure to complete it in a short time. Since there is no drive to work on the essay, the

Hunger Games Analysis Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel about the adventures of Katniss Everdeen, who is forced to battle against other children in a fight to the death tournament. Throughout the novel, Katniss appears to be saved by luck in many near death situations. She is fortunate when her backpack protects her from a knife and when she chooses a tree with a tracker jacker nest. Many believe Katniss survives because she has never ending luck in the arena. This assumption may be true; however, the other tributes aid Katniss throughout the games. She becomes dependent on other people to make decisions easier for her. Luck does not play a role in Katniss survival because the other tributes actions save her in life threatening situations. The first incident where Katniss appears to be lucky is at the start of the games. After the gong rings, Katniss heads towards the Cornucopia, even though Haymitch tells her not to. She finds an orange backpack and runs to it. Another tribute also grabs it and he becomes an issue for Katniss. They start to fight for the backpack and Katniss almost loses the fight until she see[s] the knife in his back (150). The boy is dead and is killed by the girl from District Two, Clove. Katniss quickly realizes that she is now the next target to die. Eventually, she escapes and runs into the forest where she is far away from the other tributes. Katniss seems lucky that she gets out of the Cornucopia alive because the Cornucopia is where most of the tributes die on the first day. Katniss escapes the Cornucopia not from luck, but because of Clove. When Clove throws the knife into the boy s back, it gives Katniss an opportunity to grab the pack. Because she kills the boy, Clove unintentionally gives Katniss the pack that contains survival items. Later on, Katniss uses the supplies to help her adapt in the arena. Clove s actions also save Katniss from being killed on day one of the games because the boy Clove killed could have killed Katniss. There is a good chance Katniss would be dead if Clove did not kill the boy. Mary Wollstonecraft adheres to the fact that the more specious slavery which chains the very soul of woman, keeping her forever under the bondage of ignorance is the cornerstone of a system of female inequality during the eighteenth century. In this essay, I will focus on the statement: Would men but generously snap our chains, and be content with rational fellowship, instead of slavish obedience, they would find us more observant daughters, more affectionate sisters, more faithful wives, more reasonable mothers in a word, better citizens. ... Whilst not literally true, the symbolic language which Wollstonecraft uses, forces the reader to understand the man/woman relationship as purely hierarchical; man has dominion over his wife, his mother and daughter, perhaps even other women. Wollstonecraft likens the woman as property where all are aiming to procure respect on account of their property: and property, once gained, will procure the respect due only to talents and virtue . Such a relationship must seem harsh to the modern reader. However, Wollstonecraft s dichotomy of husband to wife with owner to slave is nothing further than the application of household duty. Controversially, Wollstonecraft believes True happiness, I mean all the contentment, and virtuous satisfaction that can be snatched in this imperfect state, must arise from well regulated affections; and an affection includes a duty , referring to the mothering role of the wife, as the father looks on to appreciate his child being nursed. This duty it seems, are the chains that render women

These events mark Caroline s initiation into the existence of Hoodoo. The next phase marks her increasing awareness of Hoodoo practices and its associated beliefs. During this phase, she has a number of conversations with her former roommate, who explains the differences between Hoodoo and Voodoo and that Hoodoo cannot harm someone if they do not believe in it. That is, without belief, Hoodoo loses its potency. Her roommate s aunt owns a Hoodoo shop, where Caroline later acquires the components for the spell she performs on Ben and also learns that brick dust is used in Hoodoo magic to provide a protective barrier to stop someone with ill intent from crossing a threshold. • 50. Witches And The Witch Trials In Europe from the late fifteenth to early seventeenth centuries many people, both men and women, were persecuted as witches. The reasons for the persecution of individuals as witches included gender discrimination, religious fanaticism, an explanation for the otherwise unexplainable events that took place, and even as a way for secular officials to gain more wealth. Misogyny being a cause to the witch trials may have resulted from the new roles of women in society conflicting with the traditional views of women as sinful, and also accounts for why the majority of individuals persecuted were women. A religious spark was ignited during the Protestant Reformationas people became more religiously devoted and wanted to eliminate threats to their faith, such as witches. Many strange occurrences such as disease or even non harmful events that were simply unexplainable led people to believe witches as the causes. Some people may have not even believed another person to be a witch but may have just wanted wealth and that person s possessions and declared them a witch for that reason. All these factors contributed to the period now known as the witch craze, which resulted in the torture and death of many people. One of the main factors in the persecution of witches comes from the men of the time s misogynistic attitudes. During this time, women were beginning to take more prominent roles in society, like the notable humanist Christine de Pizan or The First Lady of the Renaissance,

The Earth centered universeof Aristotle and Ptolemy were Western thinking for almost 2000 years until the 16th century when Copernicus proposed his theory. Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Thorn, Poland. He was the youngest son of four children and the son of a prosperous merchant. He called this system the Heliocentric System. The sun was the center and the earth was just another planet that revolved around the sun. He entitled it the Commentariolus (Commentary). This commentary stated his theory in the form of seven axioms, reserving the mathematical part for the principle work. From this, the doctrine of the heliocentric system began to spread. A few years later Cardinal Schonberg, then Archbishop of Capua urged
