The Edible Woman By Margaret Atwood And Mrs. Dalloway Essay
There are several different types of Narration and narrator roles in narratives, with each having a
different effect upon the novel. However, each of these different narrator and narration types have
their own advantages and limitations in regards the narrative. Each role, ranging from first to third
person, has its own unique advantages, including the personal insight into a characters, which can be
found in first person, to the understanding of several different points of view, as seen in third person,
and so on. Each role contrasts the other, exploring the novel, and understanding the characters, in
different ways to produce a different effect within the novel. Some of these contrasting, and differing
elements, can be found in The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood and Mrs Dalloway, by Virginia
Woolf, where there is shown a clear difference between one narration style and another. These can
range from first person and third person narrator, a shifting and alternating narration, as can be seen in
Atwood s The Edible Woman, to 3rd person omniscient narrator, , and an indirect interior monologue
narration style, as can be seen in Mrs Dalloway by Woolf. Each text provides a different insight and
perspective into a narrative form, from narrator roles to Narration type, that helps bring the story to
life for the audience of the novel, and each has its own limitations and advantages to do with telling
the story.

A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share...
A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share a certain style or basic musical language
(van der Merwe 1989, p.3). The two articles that I will be comparing are Genres, Subgenres, Sub
Subgenres and More by Kembrew McLeod (2001) and On the Value of Popular Music by S. Firth
(1996). Categorizing music is especially challenging when it comes to fitting it into sub genres. As we
move through the ages, and technology and communication becomes more complex, newer and
unique genres are emerging. At first glance the more specific subgenres cause dispute and thoughts of
hipster emerge. Nonetheless, upon further inquiry, each of them makes cultural sense to be part of our
ever growing society. The two articles that I will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates bias, as it is not the same with male artists. Nevertheless, he discusses it is not definite
and that valid decisions in relation to popular music can be confusing as preferences are subject to
change Society tends to have emotional reaction to music as opposed to labeling which genre a song
will entail. It is genre rules which determine how musical forms are taken to convey meaning and
value, which determine the aptness of different sorts of judgment which determine the competence of
people... (Firth.1996, p 95). He concludes by establishing that popular music affects both social and
individual notions.
McLeod, Kembrew (2001) in his article Genres, Subgenres, Sub Subgenres and More identifies Firth s
opinion on how popular music and genres being constructed must be viewed with a
commercial/cultural process . McLeod focusing mainly on the Electronic/Dance genre, makes an
adamant claim that introduction of new subgenre names into electronic/dance music communities is
equalled by no other type of music thus that genre has been the biggest growing. Like Firth (1996),
McLeod projects the idea of gender in music implying women as the minority relative to genre. The
overwhelming majority of musical artists in the electronic/dance music scenes in the late 1980s and
the 1990s were male. Men have been in important positions

The Link Between English Reading And Mathematics
I noted that historically, any link between English reading (Arts) and Mathematics skills (Science)
seems to have been at best a tenuous one. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow
(Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with
mutual hostility and dislike... If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of that
time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of reading
comprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed.
Thankfully, changes in opinion did occur over time and by the 1990 s interest in children s maths
skills also led to an increase in research into the association between ... Show more content on

He subsequently explains that it is the format for instruction that presents the difficulty. He
demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as
numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can
proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is
presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can
use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve
problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical
problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden,
implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked
contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes
that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however
any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure.
From research I have encountered thus far I must agree that good reading comprehension is essential
for interpreting mathematical texts. Baker (1995) and Christen and Murphy

Power Outage In Chicago
Living in Chicago, which is known as Windy City, a natural disaster that would impact our
community would be a power outage. Last year our community experienced several power outages
due to strong winds. According to Nies McEwen (2015), nurses aside of their personal duty of
developing a disaster plan for home and family, they have a duty towards their community where they
can assist by developing plans for disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery for the
facilities where they work or communities where they live. Collaborating with other health and social

People with this disorder have growth issues. They also have round faces with full cheeks,
hypertelorism, epicanthal folds, and apparently low set ears .Most cases of cri du chat syndrome are
not inherited. The deletion occurs most often as a random event during the forming of the reproductive
cells or in the early fetal development. Affected people typically have no history of the disorder in
their family. 1 of every 50,000 babies are diagnosed at birth with Cri du Chat. All races are equally
likely to develop this syndrome. It is more likely in females by a 4:3 ratio. In recent studies it was
discovered that the application of genetic molecular methods introduced advances in the diagnosis and
typification of the cri du chat syndrome. There is no cure nor treatment for this because it s a
chromosome deletion problem. Children with this syndrome have poor fine and gross motor skills. To
help with this issue you can take physical ,occupational, and speech therapy. This will help with
walking, writing, speech, and more. Women are fertile and can deliver affected offspring, with an
estimated recurrence risk of 50%. Recurrence for a de novo case is 1% or

Benefits Of Federal Payroll Taxes
Everyone complains about taxes that are automatically withdrawn from their paychecks, but very few
know what actually happens with that money. Although people complain that the money goes straight
into some governor s pocket, the truth is that it goes to several government run programs. The 2 main
federal payroll taxes on wages are knows as Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes. The
federal payroll taxes are broken down into Social Security tax and Medicare Tax. Social Security tax
is there to provide income for retirees, the survivors of deceased workers, and people with disabilities.
This tax is split between employees and employers. Medicare tax takes care of health programs.

Career And Technical Education Programs
Career and Technical Education programs, known in the profession simply as CTE, provide students
an opportunity to prepare for a wide range of careers. Students are exposed many disciplines including
health care, agriculture, business, and graphic design. Through these programs students get to explore
various career paths and get hands on training, which will help them to be more employable as they
transition into the workforce.
Holland (2013) notes that, Despite stubbornly high unemployment, many employers complain that
they can t find qualified candidates. Often, the mismatch results from applicants inadequate
communication skills.
As Holland points out, the need for skilled workers is extensive. In a time when unemployment rates
are high there are plenty of people willing to work, but because of a shortage in literacy skills and
experience, there are not many people able to work in these positions. Students who participate in
CTE programs may be more prepared to enter the workforce because of the hands on experience they
receive in the classroom and through co curricular programs such as DECA or FFA.
In addition to not having experience, students are not employable because of their lack of
communication skills. Students who are not literate are not able to communicate in writing with
clients, coworkers, or a supervisor. An inability to express oneself effectively and coherently will
render an individual unemployable. Why students are unable to

American Imperialism In The Philippines Research Paper
Mikayla White 10/20/17 Period 6 American Imperialism in the Philippines Before the Spanish
American war occurred, the Philippines were under the control of Spain; after, they were at the mercy
of America and their decision on whether or not to annex them. Unfortunately, America decided to
annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain and it would also
open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not have annexed the
Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became allies instead, and while
annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs. Additionally, Americans feared that
annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an American Empire. One reason that America
decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure that France or Germany couldn t trade with them.
However, if America decided to create an alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still
been able to trade with the Filipinos. This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a
trading partner; which America could have made a good commercial profit from. As William Jennings
Bryan said: It is not necessary to own people in order to trade with them (Doc. D). Instead of annexing

Cardiovascular Disease Is The Number One Killer
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States, causing about 610,000 deaths
yearly (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Cardiovascular disease is defined as a
group of disorders damaging the heart and blood vessels, usually involving the blockage of vessels,
which in turn harm the heart (WHO, 2015). A 2011 American Heart Association statement predicted
that without intervention, 40% of United States adults will have at least one form of Cardiovascular
disease by 2030. A large portion of these deaths by cardiovascular disease is due to the sedentary
population. To better prevent cardiovascular disease, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans
Advisory Committee stated that adults should complete about 150 minutes of moderate intensity
physical activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity weekly (Barry, Blair, Church,
Hooker, Sui, Warren, 2010). Research has shown that meeting these recommendations is linked with
lower cardiovascular disease risk, as well as reduced risk of mortality. The Center for Disease Control
and Prevention estimates that only about 20.3% of Americans meet these guidelines. These statistics
show that the majority of the United States population does not get nearly the amount of physical
activity they need. However, even though many people are not doing the recommended amount of
physical activity, this may not mean that they are living a sedentary life. Living a sedentary lifestyle is

Phillis Wheatley Research Papers
Phillis Wheatley was the the first African American writer to have her books published in the United
States. Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral written by Wheatley was viewed as a model
for the importance of education with religious aspects, as it was often seen throughout her poetry.
Formulated mainly of neoclassical elegiac poetry, Poems on Various Subjects triggered several
discussions concerning the length to which Wheatley can be deemed a minor poet or whether she
wrote to express politics and moral trouble. Born in West Africa, Phillis Wheatley was bought at a
slave auction in 1791 by the wife of a Boston trader. During that time it was routine to rename the

One anti slavery activist in particular, Selina Hastings, defended the publication in France of her
collections Poems on Various Subjects. King George III was a part of Wheatley s audience but
Wheatley could not attend the meeting because she needed to take care of Mrs. Wheatley who was
deathly ill. After the passing of her owner, Phillis Wheatley became a freed slave. She lost all contact

poetry published failed. Wheatley married another freed slave soon after her own freedom and went

The Issue of Fast-Molding Homemade Bread Essay
Intro
In kitchens across America, and every other country across the world there is the issue of fast molding
homemade bread. Since these homemade breads have little to no chemical or otherwise preservatives
within them, they tend to mold many times faster than average store bought bread. Why cook
homemade bread some may ask? Why not walk on over to the nearest super market and buy the
cheapest brand? Well many of these overused preservatives have negative health effects on people.
People are allergic to a very high percentage of every day preservatives (such as MSG, Mono Sodium
Glutamate.) Ammonium for example is found in many bread and meat products as a preservative. It is
also used in various household cleaners. High amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The Woods Of...
When thinking of the word vampire most people would think that the vampire is a dark and ominous
creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania (Wilson 577). They would possibly say that the
vampires in the stories that they heard of or imagined may live in caves or castles. The vampires may
turn into bats and that they drain humans of their blood. Vampires have to invited into a home by an
owner and they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them they will not show
up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely uncivilized and animalistic. In many
stories and films this was the story that was told of vampires and now it is known as stereotypical
vampires . Today, to keep the vampire genre fresh and new, authors and screenwriters turned the genre
around and created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some vampires are now known as
attractive to lure in their victims, the term vegetarian vampire was introduced in Stephenie Meyer s
Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many other things have changed in the new
vampire genre .
The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some ways from the
very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows. Vampire Academy emerged in
the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that began several years ago. However, it distanced
itself from the others, like Twilight, with very different themes and elements. While

the relevance of the themes to today s society. Especially at this time in my life as I am attempting to

decide because choosing one meant losing all the rest (Plath 77) until finally she misses each
opportunity due to her indecisiveness. In life a person can decide to be just about anything,

happiness and fulfillment. Recently, a trend of advancement in women s role in society appeared as

An Investigation Of Understanding Energy Systems
Energy is required for all kinds of bodily processes including growth and development, repair, the
transport of various substances between cells and of course, muscle contraction. It is this last area that
Exercise Scientists are most interested in when they talk about energy systems.
Whether it s during a 26 mile marathon run or one explosive movement like a tennis serve, skeletal
muscle is powered by one and only one compound... adenosine triphosphate (ATP) (2). However, the
body stores only a small quantity of this energy currency within the cells and its enough to power just
a few seconds of all out exercise (5). So the body must replace or resynthesize ATP on an ongoing
basis. Understanding how it does this is the key to understanding energy systems.
An ATP molecule consists of adenosine and three (tri) inorganic phosphate groups. When a molecule
of ATP is combined with water (a process called hydrolysis), the last phosphate group splits away and
releases energy. The molecule of adenosine triphosphate now becomes adenosine diphosphate or ADP
(2).
Energy is measured in calories To replenish the limited stores of ATP, chemical reactions add a
phosphate group back to ADP to create ATP. This process is called phosphorylation. If this occurs in
the presence of oxygen it is labelled aerobic metabolism or oxidative phosphorylation. If it occurs
without oxygen it is labelled anaerobic metabolism (2).
Energy Sources to Replenish ATP

American Violence – a Critical Film Analysis of No Country...
Rosalind Harrell Film 1010 Final Paper American Violence A Critical Film Analysis of No Country
For Old Men A violent contract killer, a blue collar welder, and a weary sheriff are all players in the
ensemble No Country for Old Men. The Coen Brothers adaptation of the novel written by Cormac
McCarthy is a multi genre, visual buffet about a man s strength of will and dedication. It s about
death, fate and American violence. It is set in 1980 and centers around the chaos of questionable
decision making and killing without a purpose or at the very least killing without ethics. Every Coen
Brother movie has utilized violence as a way to enhance realism, entertainment and narrative. Each of

111). The medium close up shot of Llewlyn and Carla Jean on the sofa in their very modest trailer
home, puts them perfectly in the frame together so that we get a sense of what their relationship is like
while they exchange simplistic teasing. The dialogue reveals that while curious about what her man
has been up to, Carla Jean also accepts the fact that he is in control and always has their best interest at
heart even if he refuses to elaborate on his prior activities. The overhead shot 3 of Llewelyn and Carla
Jean while they lie in the bed, moves to the left and into a close up that allows us to be able to process
the day s excursion along with him. The weapons in this movie are characters themselves as the
useage of extreme close ups are exercised on them as much as the actual actors. Whether it is Churgh s
unique air pressure gun or Llwelyn s handcrafted sawed off, we get to know each weapon intimately
before it is used to annihilate what is in front of it. At every turn, we rally for Llewlyn s success. We
know he is just trying to get by with his simple but naturally beautiful wif, Carla Jean. We can t
imagine his luck when he stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and discovers an opportunity to
make life easier. Great care is taken with the setting to invoke a reminiscent feeling of Westerns we

Research Paper On Alfred Binet
Alfred Binet was the only child of Moina Allard and Edouard Binet. Binet was born in Nice, France
on July 8, 1857. His father was a physician and mother was an artist. His parents got divorced when
he was a young child. Binet attended a school in Nice until the age of 15. He spent the majority of his
summers going to a boardinghouse in England where he learned to master his fluency in English.
Attending the boardinghouse paid off in the near future because he was able to read the English and
American psychological literature. At the age of fifteen Binet moved with his mother to Paris, France.

Lewis M. Terman, a psychologist at Stanford University, revised it. The fifth edition was released in
2003. The cognitive ability and intelligence test was used to determine whether a child had
developmental or intellectual deficiencies in young children. The test consists of five weighted factors
and both verbal and nonverbal subtests. The factors that were tested were for knowledge, quantitative
reasoning, visual spatial processing, working memory, and fluid reasoning. The score scale has a total
of nine classifications that are used. The test now ranges from moderately impaired or delayed (being
the lowest score) to very gifted or highly advanced (being the highest score). The test now allows
higher age groups to be apart of the test and before it was only used for a specific age group. The test
determines the intellectual capabilities of young children all the way to young adults. The revised test
has different limitations also because it is criticized that they are unable to compare the tests since they
administer a different set of tests to individuals depending on the age of the participant. Also, it is
known that young children usually do not do well on tests because they lack the concentration to
finish this test. The test is available for you to take online on

Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy
Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy
issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by
looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that
problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by
researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government.
When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda.
In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to
know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He
explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas
alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the
government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people
involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues
are made to discuss and take action on.
Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors in
the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. The
President is the actor who sets agendas through veto power and hiring and firing

The Holocaust And The Loss Of The Holocaust
The Holocaust will never be forgotten and it should never be forgotten. There are many people out in
the world that lost family members and friends through the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a very
brutal and stressful time for anyone that had to experience it. There are people out in the world that are
still alive from the Holocaust and they tell stories about what they had to do and also what they had to
deal with during the Holocaust. People may think that it is dumb to not forget about the Holocaust and
we should all forget about it so we can move on from it but we need to know what happened so that
whatever happened in the Holocaust could never happen to us.
It is therefore important to remember the Holocaust because it is an example of how these trends could
evolve into something far more threatening. However, the Holocaust is more than a warning for the
past. The human cost of the lost of six million lives is incalculable; consider what could have been
achieved by those who died, what could have been discovered, written, invented and prevented. There
is a very long list of Holocaust survivors who have positively contributed to society but they represent
a tiny portion of talent and promise of the generations of European jews lost to us. Many did there best
to assimilate wherever they were by simply building new ordinary live for themselves.
Another reason why we should never forget the Holocaust is because in the book The Night it was

The Metro Angeles Department Of City Planning
In determining the development of the current location of the 31 year old Little Tokyo in downtown
Los Angeles I had to rely on different sources, but mainly the Sanborn maps and the Los Angeles

of City Planning s OHR s How to Guide to conducting Historical Research, the Sanborn maps gave
more the much needed information on the historical development of the site (Los Angeles Department

The galleria is loved by the Japanese and other Asian communities in Los Angeles.
The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural
center has served different historical periods. For instance, during the Second World War, Los Angeles
faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek employment. The
Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been into internment
camps as many southerners settled in downtown and the Little Tokyo was a vacant place that hosted
them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern African American
population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of the World War II, the
Asian community had lost a lot of their land in downtown area. As an oppressed minority, they have
continually struggled to gain back their land and recovered it fully. X Lanes bowling alley or the Little
Tokyo as is called by some is such an essential monument to the Japanese American culture that has
survived in downtown.
While it was not difficult to locate the site using Los Angeles Times, using Sanborn maps was a huge
challenge because of my lack of experience. I had to do multiple searches to find some credible
information. Furthermore, I had to key in some of the developments within the area so as to locate the

Iran And Nuclear Weapons Treaty
Dating back to the 1950s, Iran was interested in having its nuclear program (NTI, September 2015).
Iran received assistance from the United States through the US Atoms for Peace program. This is a
program announced by the United States at the UN in 1953 to share nuclear materials with other
countries and states for peaceful purposes. Although Iran ratified the Non Proliferation of Nuclear
Weapons Treaty (NPT) in 1970, the Shah might already have ambitions for developing nuclear
weapons (NTI, September 2015).
After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, in which the Shah was overthrown, the United States
discontinued its support regarding Iran s development of its nuclear program (Thompson, November
20, 2013). The United States worried that Iran could use the uranium to develop atomic or nuclear
bombs. However, Iran claimed that the nuclear power will be used for peaceful purposes only. In
2003, uranium, the necessary material needed to make nuclear bombs, was found at a plant in the city
of Natanz by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A temporary stop on
nuclear enrichment was made. The enrichment resumed in 2006 after Iran continued its nuclear
program (Thompson, November 20, 2013). The international community started to react against Iran
nuclear program (Thompson, November 20, 2013). A sanction against Iran was passed by the UN
Security Council after Iran did not stop its nuclear program. Sanctions could be said to be both

Who Is Chris Mccandless Responsible
In the Book Into the Wild, John Krakauer seems to Idolize Chris McCandless. Throughout the book,
Krakauer mindlessly adores McCandless and defends his every decision no matter how irresponsible it
is. His predilection towards Chris is completely unreasonable, because McCandless makes some
obviously imbecilic choices. Despite Krakauer trying to justify McCandless leaving home as trying to
find meaning in his life, It sounded like an overconfident teenager going through a rebellious phase.
The book made it seem as if he wanted to earn his own living and didn t want to use his parents
money. McCandless always made it seem as if his parents were the stereotypical snobby rich parents
that always try to spoil their kids, but I think they were just being generous. McCandless said in a
letter to his sister, I m going to have to be real careful not to accept any gifts from them in the future

Theories of Knowledge and Psychological Applications
How individuals are able to obtain knowledge is something that psychologists have studied for a
number of years. The ability to store and retrieve knowledge provides individuals with the propensity
to form logical thought, express emotions and internalize the world around them. In order for a
psychologist to understand the theories of knowledge it is necessary to investigate the aspects of the
theories. In this paper we examine the history , the basic construct, the similarities of the theories and
how those theories relate to psychological therapies. History of the theories

Many new theorists would enter the field of neural network models, but it was the work of Rumelhart,
Hinton, and McClelland that would simplify the way we would view such models (Arbib, 1995). It
was in 1986 that Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland developed their network model. It was and still
is regarded as one of the most notable network theories. This is true because they structured their
theory in a clear, concise, and intelligible manner (Martindale ,1991).
Neural network models have evolved during the past sixty years. The initial theories were extremely
difficult to comprehend and they were not interchangeable with a broad range of topics. Today s
theories are simpler to understand because they are less complex. The theories are capable of
encompassing numerous topics.
The dual coding approach is one that believes that knowledge is a series of complex associative
networks. Within these networks we find imaginal and verbal representations. These verbal and
nonverbal representations are means that facilitate the retrieval and storage of knowledge (Paivio,
1986).
The individual who was at the fore front of the development of the dual coding theory was Allan
Paivio. He did research in the area of verbal and nonverbal representations during the 1960 s.

The Impact Of Technological Advancements On The United States
In the past few decades the technological innovations in the United States had trail behind

positions in the technology fields but due to the small amount of qualified individuals companies
began outsourcing their tech jobs overseas. On a different note, the careers in technology doesn t

The Newly Developed Multinational Personnel Selection System
Question 1: What strengths and what shortcomings do you see in the newly developed multinational
personnel selection system? The company recognizes that there are problems in the existing personnel
selections, so they delegated the committee to address the problem. The new selection shows promise
as it improves the the old selection process. Some of the strengths include: 6 eye method : This 6 eye
method is the newly developed process where three people will be analyzing the qualifications and
suitability of the applicants. Compared with the old assessment conducted by external consulting
firms, this ensure reliability and credibility as the firm can find candidates that they are actually
looking for. This preliminary selection allows the recruiters to focus more on the knowledge, skills,
abilities, and others (KSAOs) of the applicants. As people have different judgments and opinions, this
provides a just screening of the candidates without any biases or prejudices involved. Although time
consuming and costly, this process ensures that all potential and promising candidates will have higher
chance of being selected. Phone interviews: This method has been proven to be very cooperative and
beneficial to many recruiters. Since this is considered as the first direct contact with the applicant
without incurring any travel expenses. In addition, the phone call can encourage the applicant to listen
to a question and respond it in their respective time and manner.

Louisiana State Politics Analysis
Louisiana State Politics
John Kenneth Galbraith once said Nothing is so admirable in politics as a short memory. While in
many ways this is an accurate statement within the political realm of the United States there are many
times that politics is greatly affected by the memories of the past. This is especially true of the
Southern United States. The South has its own perspective and history that impacts the political
environment and unities the region unlike anywhere else in the United States. However, as united as
the South has been on the national level there are vast differences to be found on the state level. This

V.O. Key Jr. stated it best when he wrote ...a people ruled by a military government will retain an
antipathy toward the occupying power. This lingering distrust and backlash against Northern control
and the recently freed slaves is one of, it not the most, pivotal factor in the formation of the South as
distinct political arena with its own views, rules, voting habits, and culture. Many Southerners felt that
to face the terms that congress had demanded for reentry into the Union were tantamount to
submission, degrading, and invited further demands and to bow before them was to lose the honor of
the South. In face of this mentality the North preceded to vote in the Reconstruction acts, import
political supporters from the North, and enforce military control in the Southern states. These
outsiders were known as scalawags and the enforced Republican rule lead to the now freed slaves
being vilified and equivocated with leading the Republican Party. The occurrences of violence against
the newly freed slaves was more endemic than ever before. A reactionary faction arose in Louisiana
that eventually resulted in its government being liquidated and the state placed into a military district
with Texas and under the direction of Union General Sheridan. This resulted in a new state
constitution which was ratified in 1868. The constitution that emerged provided for equal citizenship,
the black franchise, equal public accommodations, and public education. However, this new
government under military control was heavily supported by the African American Republican vote
and faced extreme opposition by the Redeemers and paramilitary groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.
By 1874 the support of Reconstruction was crumbling in the face of the opposition of the South and
the weariness of the North. While New Orleans was a Republican stronghold, the rest of the state was

Importance Of Biostatistics And A Critique
Importance of Biostatistics and a Critique
Biostatistics is an integral component of numerous developments particularly in technology and
modern medicine today. With biostatistics, we can gather data, analyze it, create a hypothesis, test its
validity and make a conclusion. This is essential because if we can make an inference from a sample
that represents a large population, not only we are able to save time, cost and effort but we are able to
arrive to a conclusion that could help us develop alternative treatments or tools in the future. For
instance, in concept practice 4, we assessed the usefulness of the iPhone rhinoplasty app for the
preoperative assessment of surgery. In this concept practice, we learned how to use hypothesis ...

A mean plot provides a visual comparison of means and standard deviations which includes centers
and spreads (Daddysman, Multiple Sample Studies: Summaries and Estimation, 2017). A box plot is a
graphical representation of the five number summary...the minimum, 1st quartile range, median, 3rd
quartile range, and the maximum (Daddysman, One Sample Studies: Summaries, 2017). And a
scatterplot graphically represents two variable relationships...describing its form, direction and
strength (Daddysman, Simple Linear Regression: Inference and Reporting, 2017). For instance, based
on our graph in concept practice 9, we ve learned the relationship between our slope and our two
variables number of logins and the HBA1c results. As the number of logins increase by 1 unit, the
hbA1c results decrease by .0067. Each graphical summary is important in understanding and
comparing two variables to describe gathered data, determining differences and arriving to a
conclusion.
Biostatistics also taught us how to recognize study designs and write a summary and critique. This is
helpful because it identifies positive and negative aspects of the study and an opportunity for other
people to replicate the study and improve it. For instance, on the 26th of June 2017, I submitted a
summary and critique about hand washing. This article was a replication of a previous study and an

  • 2. The Edible Woman By Margaret Atwood And Mrs. Dalloway Essay There are several different types of Narration and narrator roles in narratives, with each having a different effect upon the novel. However, each of these different narrator and narration types have their own advantages and limitations in regards the narrative. Each role, ranging from first to third person, has its own unique advantages, including the personal insight into a characters, which can be found in first person, to the understanding of several different points of view, as seen in third person, and so on. Each role contrasts the other, exploring the novel, and understanding the characters, in different ways to produce a different effect within the novel. Some of these contrasting, and differing elements, can be found in The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood and Mrs Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, where there is shown a clear difference between one narration style and another. These can range from first person and third person narrator, a shifting and alternating narration, as can be seen in Atwood s The Edible Woman, to 3rd person omniscient narrator, , and an indirect interior monologue narration style, as can be seen in Mrs Dalloway by Woolf. Each text provides a different insight and perspective into a narrative form, from narrator roles to Narration type, that helps bring the story to life for the audience of the novel, and each has its own limitations and advantages to do with telling the story. • 3. A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share... A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share a certain style or basic musical language (van der Merwe 1989, p.3). Categorizing music is especially challenging when it comes to fitting it into sub genres. As we move through the ages, and technology and communication becomes more complex, newer and unique genres are emerging. At first glance the more specific subgenres cause dispute and thoughts of hipster emerge. Nonetheless, upon further inquiry, each of them makes cultural sense to be part of our ever growing society. The two articles that I will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This creates bias, as it is not the same with male artists. Nevertheless, he discusses it is not definite and that valid decisions in relation to popular music can be confusing as preferences are subject to change Society tends to have emotional reaction to music as opposed to labeling which genre a song will entail. It is genre rules which determine how musical forms are taken to convey meaning and value, which determine the aptness of different sorts of judgment which determine the competence of people... (Firth.1996, p 95). He concludes by establishing that popular music affects both social and individual notions. McLeod, Kembrew (2001) in his article Genres, Subgenres, Sub Subgenres and More identifies Firth s opinion on how popular music and genres being constructed must be viewed with a commercial/cultural process . McLeod focusing mainly on the Electronic/Dance genre, makes an adamant claim that introduction of new subgenre names into electronic/dance music communities is equalled by no other type of music thus that genre has been the biggest growing. Like Firth (1996), McLeod projects the idea of gender in music implying women as the minority relative to genre. The overwhelming majority of musical artists in the electronic/dance music scenes in the late 1980s and the 1990s were male. Men have been in important positions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Link Between English Reading And Mathematics I noted that historically, any link between English reading (Arts) and Mathematics skills (Science) seems to have been at best a tenuous one. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow (Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with mutual hostility and dislike... He demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden, implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure. Often, the mismatch results from applicants inadequate communication skills. As Holland points out, the need for skilled workers is extensive. In a time when unemployment rates are high there are plenty of people willing to work, but because of a shortage in literacy skills and experience, there are not many people able to work in these positions. Students who participate in CTE programs may be more prepared to enter the workforce because of the hands on experience they receive in the classroom and through co curricular programs such as DECA or FFA. American Imperialism In The Philippines Research Paper Mikayla White 10/20/17 Period 6 American Imperialism in the Philippines Before the Spanish American war occurred, the Philippines were under the control of Spain; after, they were at the mercy of America and their decision on whether or not to annex them. Unfortunately, America decided to annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain and it would also open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not have annexed the Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became allies instead, and while annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs. Additionally, Americans feared that annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an American Empire. One reason that America decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure that France or Germany couldn t trade with them. However, if America decided to create an alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still been able to trade with the Filipinos. This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a trading partner; which America could have made a good commercial profit from. Cardiovascular disease is defined as a group of disorders damaging the heart and blood vessels, usually involving the blockage of vessels, which in turn harm the heart (WHO, 2015). A 2011 American Heart Association statement predicted that without intervention, 40% of United States adults will have at least one form of Cardiovascular disease by 2030. A large portion of these deaths by cardiovascular disease is due to the sedentary population. To better prevent cardiovascular disease, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Advisory Committee stated that adults should complete about 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity weekly (Barry, Blair, Church, Hooker, Sui, Warren, 2010). Research has shown that meeting these recommendations is linked with lower cardiovascular disease risk, as well as reduced risk of mortality. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that only about 20.3% of Americans meet these guidelines. These statistics show that the majority of the United States population does not get nearly the amount of physical activity they need. An Investigation Of Understanding Energy Systems Energy is required for all kinds of bodily processes including growth and development, repair, the transport of various substances between cells and of course, muscle contraction. It is this last area that Exercise Scientists are most interested in when they talk about energy systems. Whether it s during a 26 mile marathon run or one explosive movement like a tennis serve, skeletal muscle is powered by one and only one compound... adenosine triphosphate (ATP) (2). However, the body stores only a small quantity of this energy currency within the cells and its enough to power just a few seconds of all out exercise (5). So the body must replace or resynthesize ATP on an ongoing basis. Understanding how it does this is the key to understanding energy systems. An ATP molecule consists of adenosine and three (tri) inorganic phosphate groups. When a molecule of ATP is combined with water (a process called hydrolysis), the last phosphate group splits away and releases energy. The molecule of adenosine triphosphate now becomes adenosine diphosphate or ADP (2). Energy is measured in calories To replenish the limited stores of ATP, chemical reactions add a phosphate group back to ADP to create ATP. This process is called phosphorylation. If this occurs in the presence of oxygen it is labelled aerobic metabolism or oxidative phosphorylation. If it occurs without oxygen it is labelled anaerobic metabolism (2). Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda. In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on. Iran received assistance from the United States through the US Atoms for Peace program. This is a program announced by the United States at the UN in 1953 to share nuclear materials with other countries and states for peaceful purposes. Although Iran ratified the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT) in 1970, the Shah might already have ambitions for developing nuclear weapons (NTI, September 2015). After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, in which the Shah was overthrown, the United States discontinued its support regarding Iran s development of its nuclear program (Thompson, November 20, 2013). The United States worried that Iran could use the uranium to develop atomic or nuclear bombs. However, Iran claimed that the nuclear power will be used for peaceful purposes only. In 2003, uranium, the necessary material needed to make nuclear bombs, was found at a plant in the city of Natanz by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A temporary stop on nuclear enrichment was made. The enrichment resumed in 2006 after Iran continued its nuclear program (Thompson, November 20, 2013). Throughout the book, Krakauer mindlessly adores McCandless and defends his every decision no matter how irresponsible it is. His predilection towards Chris is completely unreasonable, because McCandless makes some obviously imbecilic choices. Despite Krakauer trying to justify McCandless leaving home as trying to find meaning in his life, It sounded like an overconfident teenager going through a rebellious phase. This is true because they structured their theory in a clear, concise, and intelligible manner (Martindale ,1991). Neural network models have evolved during the past sixty years. The initial theories were extremely difficult to comprehend and they were not interchangeable with a broad range of topics. Today s theories are simpler to understand because they are less complex. The theories are capable of encompassing numerous topics. The dual coding approach is one that believes that knowledge is a series of complex associative networks. Within these networks we find imaginal and verbal representations. These verbal and nonverbal representations are means that facilitate the retrieval and storage of knowledge (Paivio, 1986). Many Southerners felt that to face the terms that congress had demanded for reentry into the Union were tantamount to submission, degrading, and invited further demands and to bow before them was to lose the honor of the South. In face of this mentality the North preceded to vote in the Reconstruction acts, import political supporters from the North, and enforce military control in the Southern states. These outsiders were known as scalawags and the enforced Republican rule lead to the now freed slaves being vilified and equivocated with leading the Republican Party. The occurrences of violence against the newly freed slaves was more endemic than ever before. A reactionary faction arose in Louisiana that eventually resulted in its government being liquidated and the state placed into a military district with Texas and under the direction of Union General Sheridan. This resulted in a new state constitution which was ratified in 1868. The constitution that emerged provided for equal citizenship, the black franchise, equal public accommodations, and public education.
