Integrated Social Sciences Personal Statement
One aspect that drew me to the Integrated Social Sciences program is how well rounded the
curriculum is. My goal in life is to become a travel writer, and having a wide breadth of knowledge
will only help me achieve that. The flexibility in learning and development through this program is
important to me not only because of my professional aspirations but my personal ones as well.
Learning about other cultures and people has always been an interest of mine, being raised in a multi
ethnic household I searched for familiarity in an environment that was atypical of my own. This led to
an unrelenting curiosity in the world that persists to this day, and is what drives me towards higher
learning. Having previously worked and studied in computer science fields, although finding the
topics interesting, I realized that they did not fulfill my need for a wider breadth of knowledge.
Through the ISS major, I would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have experienced this multiple times throughout my life in both aspects, and this is a subject that I
feel very strongly on. Working in the STEM fields, where there is a predominance of men, I
experienced both classmates and professors treating me with disregard or open hostility. There was
often times a clear sense that I was not welcome. I have also experienced sexual assault multiple times
in my personal life, and I know several other women who have as well. Looking back, I wish I would
have had the strength and experience to stand up for myself in both situations. While I cannot change
the past, I can change the future, and in taking social science classes I hope to gain knowledge that
will enable me to help women around the world deal with discrimination. Because I have been
through these situations I realize how hard taking a stand can be, but I hope to be a driving force in
changing the conditions for women

My Experience At University Of Melbourne
I have been a student at University of Melbourne for 4 semesters, and over the commerce course of
my study I have developed and grown more than I thought possible. Business Case Analysis has not
only given me great experience, but also helped me boost my skills and knowledge through the
semester through interactive learning and teamwork. In this course, I have learned how to approach a
problem, particularly in business sector, while also professionally maintaining collaborative work in
teams. This reflection will firstly analyse my experience in solving cases, and as I go along, I
recognized my strengths and weaknesses from my team members and myself. After that, I will discuss
my skills that have developed during the course and its impact to my future career as business
practitioner. At the end of the reflection, further improvement of the course will be considered. I
remember the first and second class, the feeling of being hit with the harsh and abrupt reality that I
need to work absolutely hard this semester. But at that time, I was not afraid. Instead, I feel challenged
and enthusiastic for what I need to overcome in this subject. I read several cases from international
case competition and compare the best solutions from the winner of that competition, with an
intention to be more prepared for the first case. For the first case, our group faced a difficult challenge
in identifying the strategy to unfold the issue of death spiral for Vector Limited. The energy

camp. Word gets out around the guards that Louie is an ex olympic runner and makes him race other
Japanese runners. Even at this point and Louie being in terrible condition he is able to beat the runners
easily, but when he wins he gets beaten (20). This continued to happen to Louie and Phil until Phil got

informed if any prisoners attempt escape all prisoners in the camp will be killed. Three weeks later,
Louie and several other men are informed they are being taken to another POW camp called Omori

Analysis Of Generation Debt By Anya Kamenetz
In the excerpt from her book, Generation Debt, Anya Kamenetz discusses the major problems
affecting people of her generation due to an enormous debt. In an attempt to inform, as well as to
mend the situation, Kamenetz s claims were constructed in a fashion that would draw the attention of
readers help them understand where she stands in the midst of this predicament. To do this, her
messages were developed through the use of several rhetorical devices and strategies such as
allusions, anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and metaphors. At the start of the excerpt, Kamenetz utilizes
an allusion to relate two significant events in American history. In the excerpt, she refers to the attack
of September 11, 2001 and claims, My generation was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does not help when the attack could have been the reason behind the possibility for a new global
war (Kamenetz 733). By alluding to Pearl Harbor, an attack that forever marked (Kamenetz 732) a
generation before, Kamenetz was able to show that her generation, while already under an intense
pressure, was given another problem that scarred them forever. While personal stories and historical
references played a major role in developing her message, Kamenetz also uses rhetorical questions in
the excerpt. She questioned why everything America has always its children no longer holds true
(Kamenetz 732) and how things would turn out if people of the generation does worse than our
parents (Kamenetz 733). The questions allow the reader to think about her claims and accusations as
they progress through the excerpt. She addresses a young adult audience who are experiencing the
same problems, and accuses the older generation as the source of the problem as a means to allow
readers to recognize the reality of the situation. Additionally, Kamenetz uses figurative language,
specifically metaphors, as another source for strengthening her message. Growing up, she was taught
to expect the world on a plate , but she knew that she would be stuck with the check (Kamenetz 733).
Relating to that metaphor, Kamenetz explains that it is going to be young

Annotation Of Sappho s Fragment 16
The Greeks produced some of the greatest literature in the Archaic Age; stories were dauntless,
delightful, and passionate whilst sustaining a worldly and rich composition. Poetry became one of the
arts that grew favorable to the citizens of Greece due to the mellow melody of the art while preserving
the significant principles and values of their culture. The poem Fragment 16, written by the illustrious
poet of the Archaic Age ca. 600 BCE, Sappho, expresses the admiration of Anactoria and her
commendable beauty. This poem, translated by Jim Powell, is an example of one of Sappho s
renowned lyric poetry, demonstrating the intricate practice of love and passion. Lyric poetry is the art
of expressing the poet s private emotions and affairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Archaic Age, beauty is sought by the citizens of Greece all throughout the various forms of
artistic expression. For example, Greek sculptures before the Archaic Age were widely influenced by
the mesopotamians and egyptians, with rigid postures and ceremonious gestures. However, in the
Archaic Age, we see a little more change throughout the art of sculpting in Greece. Greek sculptors
began incorporating lively, athletic, and healthy attributes to the work of art, such as the Anavysos
Kouros, (page 52) a Greek korari sculpture based by the Archaic Age. Health and beauty in art was
commenced in the Hellenic Era, almost as much as the religious aspect of the art. In addition,
Architecture grew of the idea of beauty and beautiful buildings. Greek temples became very intricate
with design and beautifully delicate with aesthetic ethics incorporated into their fundamental
principles. Developments such as the post beam triangle construction, pediments, cornice, and
stylobate was implemented to integrate beauty into their architecture. An example of this art would be
the Temple of Aphaia, (page 49) Aegina, created in 510

The Symbols Of Swastika
10 things you probably didn t know about SWASTIKA
Before Hitler the Nazi Germany made it popular during the World War II by using this symbol as their
emblem, this symbol related to something entirely different, it had different meanings in various
civilizations, having its traces as back as 10,000 BC, the swastika symbolizes as of positivity
prosperity to most of the civilization. It is one of the most important and widespread symbols in
ancient religion and today s modern world as well.
Here are 10 interesting things that you probably didn t know about Swastika.
1. It s Origin.
Swastika basically comes from a Sanskrit word meaning That which is good or all is good but also is
translated to lucky or auspicious object , more of a very positive symbol. There are evidence that
prove that it dates back to the Neolithic era. Among the earliest cultures utilizing swastika is the
Neolithic Vinča culture of South East Europe which now are Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and
Herzegovina. More use of the Swastika can be traced back to Ancient India, during the Indus ... Show

Navajo meaning whirling logs. Similarly it s called Wan in China, Manji in Japan, Fylfot in England
and Tetraskelion or Tetragammadion in Greece. In Thailand, the word Sawaddi is normally used as a

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Trophy Hunting
Imagine your posterity growing up in a world without the Big Five. The Big Five are the game
animals, Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Elephant and Cape Buffalo. These animals are significant
because they are the hardest to hunt, making their way to the top of hunter bucket lists. Trophy
hunting is the selective hunting of wild game for human recreation. The trophy parts of the animals are
kept to be displayed while the carcass is left behind. Trophy hunting is unnecessary and does little to
help threatened species. Trophy Hunting is detrimental to the overall populations of species. Only
12.3% of contribution to wildlife conservationists comes from Trophy Hunters who claim they are

In Africa, a village of the name Sankuyo earned $600,000 from the 120 animals that were allowed to
be victims of trophy hunting(Onishi). Without trophy hunting, there will not be as much money owned
by these African villages and the villages will slowly decline to poverty. To add to this argument, lions
have been seen entering the villages, where the ban has been placed, to find food because they would
normally eat the elephant carcusses left by trophy hunters. The people of these villages are claiming to
be poisoning those animals who trespass in order to save their own crops. Are humans really that
much more important than these innocent animals?
Trophy Hunting should be banned. There is overwhelming evidence that supports trophy hunting as a
negative influence to our environment. Ban Trophy Hunting now, before it wipes a whole species of
our planet. The upcoming generations of children on this planet deserve the right to lay eyes on an
elephant or a lion, etc. With the continuation of Trophy Hunting, these animals have a less likely
chance to survive to 10 years from now (Scientific American). Therefore, Trophy Hunting should be
banned so the Big Five can have a chance to survive

Dislocation Case Studies
Superior dislocations: Also called, central dislocations can result from a direct blow to a partially
opened mouth. This type of trauma can lead to upward migration of the condylar head which in turn
can result in fracture of the glenoid fossa with condyle dislocation into the middle skull base.
Furthermore, this type of dislocation can result in more serious injuries like facial nerve injury,
intracranial hematomas, cerebral contusion, leakage of CSF, and impairment to the eighth cranial
nerve which is can lead to deafness. Lateral dislocations: Those are usually commonly accompanied
with mandible fractures. The condylar head is expelled in a lateral and superior direction and can often
be palpated in the temporal space. Case presentation: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainly, the clinical features of mandibular injuries include pain and difficulty in jaw movement.
Anterior dislocations: show a palpable depression in the periauricular region caused by the migration
of the condylar head. Unilateral dislocations: Result in a shift of the mandible away from the
dislocation. Mandibular prognathism along with pain in the TMJ area can be seen when both of the
condyles are anteriorly dislocated. Patients with suspected mandible dislocations and especially
superior dislocations, must undergo a very careful examination of the CNS, specifically the Fifth and
Seventh cranial nerves. During the physical examination the EAC must be inspected and hearing
should be tested in case of posterior dislocation In cases of lateral mandible dislocation the condyle
can be palpated in the temporal space. The oral cavity should be checked for any gingival injuries. In
order to eliminate mandibular fracture, a tongue blade test can be used. The tongue blade should be
placed between the posterior teeth, and the patient is instructed to bite on the blade. The patient should
be able to stabilize the tongue blade strong enough for the examiner to twist it until it breaks, if not
then a mandibular fracture can be

Analysis Of The Film There Will Be Blood
The film There Will Be Blood is a drama directed by Paul Anderson in 2007. It s widely known for the
performance of Day Lewis who plays Daniel Plainview, the cinematography, and the screenplay. Set
in the early 1900s the plot follows a wealth driven man whose goal is to take over the oil industry with
his oil drilling company. Daniel Plainview and his company surveys land for oil and once found they
offer the landowners signing bonuses and royalties to build on their property. In the beginning, Daniel
is approached by a man who claims to have a significant amount of oil under his families grounds.
From here on the film, There Will Be Blood, exhibits a story of a road to riches that both creates and
destroys the future. There Will Be Blood displays all the elements of artistic form discussed in class.
First, the plot and characters. The plot is of a man whose mission is wealth while along the way he s
met with religious problems, family issues, and more. The writers also perfectly executed their cast of
characters for the plot. For example, Eli Sunday, played by Paul Dano. Eli gave a sense of hope and
kindness in film through his religious beliefs and goals of helping others. This was a nice contrast to
the violence and greed that Daniel and his company brought along. Another critical character to the
plot was H.W., Daniel s non biological son. H.W., played by Dillon Freasier, was an important
addition to the conflicts that arise for Daniel. Specifically, Daniel is met

Essay on Briggs Stratton Case Analysis
Briggs Stratton Case Analysis Introduction History Stephen F. Briggs and Harold M. Stratton founded
Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee in 1908. Briggs was an inventor and Stratton was a
successful businessman. The first product developed by Briggs was too expensive to produce and the
partners were out of money. In 1909, Briggs filed a patent for a gas engine igniter to replace the
existing magneto system in automobiles. This product was the beginning of Briggs and Stratton
becoming the largest US producer of switches and locks for automobiles. Briggs and Stratton tried
other products in the 1920 s, but they were not competitive with the Model T. Eventually, Briggs and

Japanese manufacturers, Daihatsu and Mitsubishi. These alliances should allow Briggs and Stratton to

Stratton s latest addition to their product line. These engines are targeted to the premium market for
commercial lawn care. There is not much competition in this segment. Honda seems to be the biggest
competitor and does not have a large portion of this market. Briggs and Stratton are planning to grow
this product through the international markets. The Diamond Series is considered a high growth and
high profit product and it is in the rapid growth life cycle phase. Overall, Briggs and Stratton have
three very attractive products in their product profile. This data trend seems to mean Briggs and

Death and Time in Slaughterhouse-Five
Death and Time in Slaughterhouse Five
We all wish we could travel through time, going back to correct our stupid mistakes or zooming ahead
to see the future. In Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse Five, however, time travel does not seem
so helpful. Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut s main character, has come unstuck in time. He bounces back and
forth between his past, present, and future lives in a roller coaster time trip that proves both senseless
and numbing. Examining Billy s time traveling, his life on Tralfamadore, and the novel s
schizophrenic structure shows that time travel is actually a metaphor for our human tendency to avoid
facing the unpleasant reality of death.
Because he cannot control time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are plenty of other moments of time, they reason, when that person is alive. Therefore, death
can be overlooked as a chronological inconvenience.
This philosophy of life and death they instill in Billy himself, speaking to him in a disembodied voice
which floats down into the zoo cage which serves as his home:
We spend eternity looking at pleasant moments like today at the zoo. Isn t this a nice moment? Yes.
[Billy answered] That s the one thing Earthlings might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: Ignore
the awful times, and concentrate on the good ones. (117)
But ignoring death and its suffering is exactly what Billy should not be doing, Vonnegut suggests. To
do so makes him, like the Tralfamadorians, alien and inhuman. He has no sense of his own mortality,
an awareness he needs in order to understand that, as Stephen Marten has observed, life is valuable not
because it is infinite but because it is so scarce (11).
Curiously, Vonnegut uses the Tralfamadorian idea that books, like life, should have no beginning, no
middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects (88). As he states on the title page of , his
novel is written somewhat in the telegraphic, schizophrenic manner of the tales of the planet
Tralfamadore (i). True to his promise, the book has no orderly plot but

Quality Of Earnings For Major Corporations
This paper examines the quality of earnings for major corporations. The quality of earnings is an
ongoing operation of corporations and other business alike, because the value of a business is the
current and future earnings of the firm (Schroeder et al, 2011). These earnings are usually updated
quarterly by a firm s financial analyst, which provide this for investors and other users of financial
information to make decisions about a firm s financial position in the market. However, there are some
differences in the quality of earnings throughout various industries, countries and by competitors. This
paper evaluates the quality of earnings for one major corporation for an assessment of its current and
future earnings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), Section 404 plays an important role in a firm s earnings
quality, reliability and relevance (Singer You, 2011). Additionally, they stated that the implementation
of the regulation helped firms reduce intentional misstatements and contributes to the earnings
reliability. During the process of evaluating the quality of earnings, there are some warning signs that
should be considered, in order to detect potential fraud or misstatement. These warning signs will be
discussed further, later in this paper. First, the quality of earnings will be discussed. Second, the
analysis of a major corporation to measure its quality of earnings. Lastly, warning signs will show
vulnerable areas where financial data can be manipulated. Prior to the measurements of quality of
earnings, there are two definitions that should be recognized; earnings quality and earnings

its economic income, which is attributable to high sales and low costs (Schroeder et al, 2011).
Earnings management is an attempt to use accounting techniques to produce financial reports and

Similarities Between Bhutto And Catt
Both the Address by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and and Carrie Chapman Catt s Address to the
Congress on Women s suffrage explain the importance of women s rights. Bhutto and Catt use similar
techniques to convey their message and convince the audience of its importance. Bhutto and Catt use
the persuasive techniques of pathos, and logos. Bhutto uses pathos to appeal to the audience s
emotions, where the daughters are more malnourished than the sons, for the daughters get to eat the
leftovers ( Bhutto). She offers real world examples about how society immorally treats women, while
using a depressing tone, making the reader feel sorrowful and compassionate for women. Catt used
pathos to make the audience feel compassion for women, when she asks, do you realize that... a

It shows that even the most prestigious women are debased when it comes to political power. Bhutto
and Catt effectively used pathos to stimulate the audience s pity for women, and can connect their

persuade the importance of women s rights. Bhutto used statistical information, comparing boys and
girls treatment in different countries, today two thirds of the world s illiterate population are women (
Bhutto). By the use of logos Bhutto proves her claim of the need of gender equality, and appeals to the
audience s reasoning. Catt uses logos by discussing the hypocrisy of the founding fathers, who left
Great Britain because of taxation without representation, yet did not mention women suffrage in the
constitution. For example, Our founding fathers declared that all americans shall be represented, yet
women are denied suffrage. Not one American has arisen to question their logic in 141 years ( Catt

Electrical Motor Control II Project
Electrical Motors Control II Project The class I am now taking is Electrical Motors Control II. Motor
controls. A motor controller is a device or group of devices that serves to govern in some
predetermined manner the performance of an electric motor. A motor controller might include a
manual or automatic process for starting and stopping the motor, selecting forward or reverse rotation.
This project was put together by me, Olen and Melvin. Constructing a motor control panel consists of
many factors, such as; meeting the customer s specifications, desired operations, state and local
regulations. Every electric motor has to have some sort of way to control it. The motors will have
various ways to be started, stopped, reversed, and even ways to control the speed of the motors. These
features can be complex depending on the task that the motor will be performing. By being able to do
these things with the motors in various ways, helps make the task at hand a much simpler and less
time consuming process. Allowing workers to get their job completed more efficiently. In this project
that we were instructed to build we started with 240 volts AC power. We ran from the main three
phase power to three fuses, then to our starter and overloads then onto our first motor. We repeated the
process of Motor 1 for the second motor as we ran to three different fuses than that of the first motor.
When then ran from the fuses to a transformer to step the voltage down. From the transformer we

Abstract
Power over Ethernet or PoE is a technology that dispense electrical power and data transmission to
devices, such as IP cameras or phones, access points wireless or bluetooth. PoE devices that are placed
in remote locations stop not only the need for power outlets, but also cut down the installation costs
and enable the network devices to be adaptable in that region. Consumers and vendors of IP phones
were either supplying local power through an AC (alternating current) electrical outlet or using non

the popularity of the PoE. it is very easy to use PoE with a variety of other devices.
On one hand, we have Power over Ethernet PSE (Power Supplying Equipment) which supplies PoE
PD devices with electricity via the data cable and is also a source of voltage. It may use either End
Span or Mid Span. The end span method basically means that there is a hardware device such as a
PoE capable switch at the beginning of the twisted pair cable. A PoE capable switch simply defines a
switch that has the capability of transmitting DC voltage over the twisted pair cable along with data.
Figure 1: Power supplied from LAN equipment with end span PSE
The other method, known as Mid span, provides power on the twisted pair cable at some point after
the switch/router but before the device you are powering. An example of a Mid span device would be
something like a Single Port PoE injector (Planet3 Wireless, 2005). A Single Port PoE injector has a
port for the incoming Ethernet cable, a cord for the

Is Facebook Making Us Lonely Stephen Marche
Is Facebook Making Us Lonely? In the article Is Facebook making us lonely? published in May 2012,
Stephen Marche reports that the use of social media has detached people from one another, makes
them lonelier, and makes them encourage solitary living. Marche explains that the high use of social
media has increased the quantity in the intensity of human loneliness which can make the users
miserable, unhappy with their lives, deteriorate their health, decrease their confidant, and eventual
causes untimely death. He states that people now live in an accelerating contradiction: the more
connected they become, the lonelier they are. He reports that Facebook is interfering with our real
friendships, distancing us from each other, making us lonelier; and that social networking might be
spreading the isolation it seemed designed to conquer. In addition, Marche states that the effect of
loneliness has created multiple research and increase professional careers. Facebook and other social

Criminal Profiling In Criminal Justice
CRIMINAL PROFILING: BRINGING THE GUILTY TO JUSTICE OR NOT?
Television crime shows like NCIS or CSI and movies like Sherlock Holmes often display the
investigation tool known as criminal profiling. By examining hidden clues at crime scenes the heroes
of the show always manage to successfully track down the guilty suspect and bring them to justice. In
real life, however, things are not that simple. If one is a fan of these shows or shows similar in content,
one may be under the influence that criminal profiling is a relatively new tool in criminal
investigation. Yet, that is not the case. The use of criminal profiling in crime investigations has been
around for well over 100 years (Canter). However, even though this tool has been used ... Show more

Many courts do not allow criminal profiles to be entered as evidence. Canada, the United Kingdom,
and Australia are just a few countries in which criminal profiles have been denied by the court system
(Woskett, Coyle, and Lincoln). As stated early, criminal profiling is not considered to be a scientific
process. This is most likely the main reason that criminal profiles are inadmissible in a courtroom.
Judges and juries are interested in the facts of the crime and since the hypothesis of a criminal profiler
cannot be tested and proven, you cannot label a profile as valid and

Active Portfolio Management Strategy
Definition: In an active portfolio strategy, a manager uses financial and economic indicators along
with various other tools to forecast the market and achieve higher gains than a buy and hold (passive)
portfolio.
Tracking error is a measure of how closely a portfolio follows the index to which it is benchmarked.
The most common measure is the root mean square of the difference between the portfolio and index
returns.
Many portfolios are managed to a benchmark, normally an index. Some portfolios are expected to
replicate, before trading and other costs, the returns of an index exactly (an index fund), while others
are expected to actively manage the portfolio by deviating slightly from the index in order to generate
active returns or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereafter, the investor would either choose a value based or growth based approach.
Active strategies require major adjustments to portfolios, trading to take advantage of interest rate
fluctuations, etc. There are five major active bond portfolio management strategies: 1. Interest rate
anticipation 2. Valuation analysis 3. Credit analysis 4. Yield spread analysis 5. bond swaps
In each strategy, the manager hops to outperform the buy and hold policy by using acumen, skill, etc.
Interest Rate Anticipation
This is the riskiest strategy because the investor must act on uncertain forecasts of future interest rates.
The strategy is designed to preserve capital (lose as little as possible) when interest rates rise (and
bond prices drop) and to receive as much capital appreciation as possible when interest rates drop (and
bond prices rise).
These objectives can be obtained by altering the maturity or duration of their portfolios. Longer
maturity, or longer duration, portfolios will benefit the most from an interest rate decrease and vice
versa. Thus, if a manager expects an increase in interest rates, they would structure portfolio to have
the lowest possible duration.
The problem faced with this type of strategy is the risk of mis estimating interest rate movements. It is

Huey P Long Messiah Of The Masses Analysis
Messiah of the Masses, a delightful American biography, displays Huey P. Long life from childhood to
his downfalls as governor. Long is a misunderstood protagonist, a man that will do anything to be
publicly noticed in Glen Jeansonne s Huey P. Long and the Great Depression (1999). Jeansonne
exposes Huey P. Long s tragic imperfections and great abilities that he creates during his lifetime.
Since Huey Long was an intimated man, he jeopardy his way to become a great governor as he could
have been. Jeansonne argues that Long always put his own interests first (xii). Indeed, he states, Huey
Long who did not play by the rules (6). By him placing himself first, one could state that Long has
crude manners and domineering personality which creates a bad message. For instance, Huey would
snatch food from friends and strangers and devour them (61). A man like Long abuses his power to
achieve what he desires to get elected as governor. Moreover, Long can talk and give promises;
however, he can be mistaken. Jeansonne pleads Longs as an entertainer rather than keeping promises.
Definitely, Jeansonne states, promise it be done... so people can vote... to see if one can do it (44). One

Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is a satire novel from 1813. The story is about a couple named the
Bennets who try to get their five daughters to marry kind and rich gentlemen. The main characters
however are the Bennets second and headstrong daughter Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy, her
aristocratic suitor. Throughout the entire novel, the two lovers must overcome pride and prejudice
before love can bring the novel to its magnificent conclusion . During the novel, there are two
marriage proposals between Darcy and Collins, Mr. Bennets cousin, which are both for Elizabeth.
Both proposals have similarities but also have many differences.
Mr. Collins and Darcy s proposals are similar in three ways: They both are ill timed; they are both
ridiculous, and Elizabeth rejects both of them.
The first reason Mr. Collins and Darcy s proposals are similar is that they both are ill timed. When
Collins proposes to Elizabeth, it is right after she finishes breakfast with her sisters and before she can
do anything else to make herself more presentable. (Austen, Jane. Pride and Prejudice. 3rd ed .Vol.
1.Ch.19 New York: Norton, 2001. Print.) When Darcy proposes to Elizabeth, she is suffering a
headache after she finds out that he was the one who separated her sister Jane and her husband
Bingley and blurts out the proposal without any sympathy for her health. (Austen, Jane. Pride and
Prejudice. 3rd ed. Vol. 2. Ch. 11 New York: Norton, 2001. Print.)

What Are The Ethical Issues In Journalism
Journalism is both old and new. The profession has been around for hundreds of years, but it is always
changing and reinventing itself. With these changes, the question of what is right and what is wrong is
not always clear, but journalists still must attempt to answer those questions.
Reporters, editors and anyone else practicing journalism must be held to a high standard of ethics
across the board. Journalists owe it to the public to practice this high standard of reporting, as
journalists work to serve the public.
Listed below are several principles a journalist must keep in mind when practicing journalism in order
to be ethical.
Always tell the truth
The most basic skill required to be a good journalist is to have the capability to ... Show more content

The public that those reporters serve deserves to have a complete knowledge of a situation.
Show compassion when needed
Journalists may come across topics that are emotionally straining and difficult to cover, such as a
person s death or a natural disaster. In their coverage, journalists may choose to interview people who
are still reeling from such a tragedy. If they choose to do this, journalists must remember to be
courteous to their sources while also maintaining a professional boundary. Take the sources protection
into consideration. Make it clear that you are a reporter. Explain why their comments could be
valuable to the story.
Be independent from all
The sources do not write the story, the reporter does. If a source tries to stop a fact from going into
print or being broadcasted on the evening news, try to understand why that source would want that.
Could the fact harm their career if it is made public? Could the fact coming to light make way for
helpful reforms to a broken system? Is sharing the fact libelous? High ranking newsroom employees,
such as a desk editor or news director, should be involved in this debate and analysis of the sources
request with the reporter. News outlets have the right editorial independence.
Journalists must also be wary of sources who are trying to use them to get a story published the way
they want it. Reporters should always have some level of skepticism when

Myoglobin In Aquatic Mammals
Unlike a terrestrial habitat, an aquatic habitat is surrounded by dense water that only contains a low
concentration of dissolved oxygen. This low concentration of oxygen varies in other aquatic habitats.
For example, pools have less oxygen content than riffles of streams. Even though both terrestrial and
aquatic mammals share the same gas exchange system aquatic mammals have well adapted to the
aquatic habitat so survive. Aquatic mammals possess a protein called myoglobin, which is a protein
that stores oxygen and is found in the skeletal muscles . When diving mammals such as dolphins dive,
oxygen to the important organs is limited. The myoglobin present in aquatic mammals is different to
the myoglobin present in terrestrial mammals such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that they are not limited to living only in an aquatic habitat or a terrestrial habitat unlike
fish. Fish can only live in an aquatic habitat and have no special adaptations to live in a terrestrial
habitat. A fish s gas exchange system requires water to support the fish s filaments and to hold the
lamellae apart so that surface area can be kept large. If a fish were to live in a terrestrial habitat they
would be permanently exposed to air. This air would then make the filaments and the lamellae stick
together which would then greatly decrease the surface area to volume ratio. As a result, the efficiency
of gases diffusing would reduce. Fish s gills would desiccate without the water to keep them moist so
the respiratory gases would not be able to dissolve so it can diffuse into the blood. However, due to the
process of counter current flow, fish can take in more of the oxygen that is in water. This leads to a
greatly efficient gas exchange. Mammals can avoid desiccation of their gas exchange system as the air
they breathe in is warmed and moistened by the nasal passages as it enters the nostrils and the mouth.
This allows the mammals to live in terrestrial or aquatic

According to the theory observed by the researchers, the criminal justice system not only has
emphasized the interests of the offenders but has put the victims secondary to those offenders.
Individuals can experience many types of victimizations which include domestic violence, theft, and
child abuse. The perception of the masses in our society about these crimes and others are not always
valid or accurate. The perceptions that are driven by those of the media include myths about certain
crimes and the distinguishing characteristics of some of those that have been victimized. Some
examples of these perceptions that are held by our society are people are to blame for their own
victimizations, they might deserve this kind of treatment because of who they are or where they live
and lastly, individuals usually recover from being victimized rather quickly. These perceptions are to
blame for negative reactions that victims receive from the public and the criminal justice system. I
think due to shows like America s Most Wanted has really curbed society s perceptions of victims and
criminals. These types of shows have diminished the stereotypical mentality that has existed here in
America for centuries and that is people are not to blame for being victimized because of their status

Concrete Filled Tubular ( Cft ) Column
The steel tube in a concrete filled tubular (CFT) column acts as both lateral and longitudinal
reinforcement, and is thus subjected to hoop tension and biaxial stresses of longitudinal compression.
At the same time, concrete is tri axially stressed. Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column has become
popular as structural member in buildings due to their excellent performance for structural
characteristics, which include high ductility, stiffness, and high strength. The advantages of the
Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column over other composite members are that the filled in concrete
prolongs local buckling of the steel tube wall, the steel tube provides formwork for the concrete, the
tube prevents excessive concrete spalling and composite columns add more stiffness to a frame
compared to old style steel frame construction. According to past study on the concentric compression
behavior of Concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns, the ultimate axial strength of Concrete filled
tubular (CFT) columns is largely affected by the thickness of the steel tube and the shape of its cross
section Although confining effect in square columns show a small increase in axial strength due to
triaxial effects, although it has large wall thicknesses. On the other hand, the axial load and
deformation behavior of columns is remarkably affected by the cross sectional shape, diameter/width
to thickness ratio (D/t) of the steel tube, and the strength of the filled concrete.

Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence
History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that
invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that.
The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in
early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as
Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had
previously invaded Britain.
The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in
their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most

Odin was the ?All father? of all the gods and was extremely wise. He exchanged one of his eyes for
wisdom. Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and
beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother).
England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of
them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time.
This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people
and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time
worshipping gods like we still do today.
In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like
most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress
warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of
red, green, yellow, brown and blue.
Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On
top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear
socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and
chain mail to protect themselves.

question: Under the CWA, does a discharge of pollutants occur when polluted water flows from one
portion of a river that is navigable water of the United States, through a concrete channel or other

polluted water from one part of a water body into another part of the same body is not a discharge of

water runoff that exceeded pollutant levels to discharge into rivers that flows into the ocean. The case

This has been promoted as a technological approach to support and assist in diagnosis, monitoring
management, and the treatment of patients by using telecommunication (Kayyali, Hesso, Ejiko, Gebra,
2017). As with all technology there are advantages and disadvantages. This paper will describe the
advantages and disadvantages of telehealth as a form of healthcare. Advantages of Telehealth
Convenience One advantage of using telehealth for ones health care needs is the fact that patients do
not need to have a primary care provider. In the United States alone, one quarter of patients do not
have complete access to a primary care provider or do not have one at all (Polinski, Barker, Gagliano,
Sussman, Brennan, Shrank, 2016) . With how busy American s are today, have convenient and
accessible care can be difficult. Telehealth will ease the patients access to care. Telehealth allows
healthcare professionals to provide medical services at a distance, all while using video imaging and
other technology just as they would in an office setting. Recent studies have found that the quality of

Essay on Psalm 27
Psalm 27
Psalm twenty seven was superscribed before being anointed . It indicates when it was made, which
was before David was anointed king over all of Israel. David is showing his gratitude for the salvation
and the elevation received through God s protection and showing his devotion to the Lord through this
Psalm. In it he makes the request to be permitted to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his
life. He expresses how much God means to him by worshiping Him with all his heart and soul
(Makrakis, 161).
It is a prayer of Praise from David that expresses his confidence in the Lord, followed by a description
of how God will protect him from his enemies. Because he is a devout worshiper of God, God will

David was so thankful that the Lord loved him, and that is what kept him from giving up. He had so
much faith even through the tough times, and because of that God blessed him a great deal. In the
second verse, David says, When evil doers drew night unto me to eat my flesh, my oppressors and
mine enemies themselves weakened and fell. By evildoers, enemies, and oppressors he means Saul s
party. They fell dead and became weak in the war against the Philistines. God forsook the people
trying to persecute David, because they have forsaken God (Makrakis, 161 162). His enemies could
never do him harm, because time and time again the Lord delivered him. David took his stand trusting
on the highlands of faith, and because of that God always had His angels guarding David. David
continues his prayer by saying, Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear:
though war shall rise against me, in this I will be confident. In other words, In spite of this I am
trustful. David was sure that he was on victory s side, because Samuel had anointed him king. God
had promised him the throne; therefore, Saul and his army could not prevent him from sitting on the
throne. His future was in good hands; it was in God s hands. David was not afraid to make requests to
the Lord, because he knew that God would grant him his requests. He presented this request, One
thing I have asked of the Lord, this is

From the standpoint of the labor process, these functions can be grouped around the design and
assembly of printed circuit boards and related components, the final assembly of systems (called box
build) and logistics and inventory related work (Lüthje, Schumm and Sproll 2002). Contract
manufacturers are serving a growing range of product markets from Personal Computers and servers,
over Internet routers and switching gear, to communications equipment (especially mobile phones),
consumer products such as computer game or television sets, industrial and automotive electronics, as
well as space and aircraft electronics.
The wide range of manufacturing services and products that contract manufacturers provide
distinguishes them from traditional subcontractors, or board stuffers , in the electronics industries.
Whereas such firms perform labor intensive assembly processes strictly controlled by the brand name
owner (also called OEM), CM companies develop and manage complex production processes, often
cross national in scope (Sturgeon 1997 and 1999). Contract manufacturing is also different from more
sophisticated sub supply arrangements in the IT industry, particularly from Original Design
Manufacturing (ODM). As opposed to contract manufacturing, ODM companies own the

The Green Revolution
The world s worst recorded food disaster occurred in 1943 in British ruled India. Known as the Bengal
Famine, an estimated 4 million people died of hunger that year in eastern India (which included today
s Bangladesh). Initially, this catastrophe was attributed to an acute shortfall in food production in the
area. However, Indian economist Amartya Sen (recipient of the Nobel Prize for Economics, 1998) has
established that while food shortage was a contributor to the problem, a more potent factor was the
result of hysteria related to World War II, which made food supply a low priority for the British rulers.

Theory Of Tests Of Passive Sufficiency Essay
KPE160H1F FUNDAMENTALS OF HUMAN MOVEMENT
ASSIGNMENT #1
1. Theory of Tests of Passive Sufficiency (3 marks)
a. In order to test the passive sufficiency of a bi articular structure, such as a muscle, both joints which
that structure crosses must first be identified. Additionally, the movements of those two joints which
will constrain that structure must be identified. Next, one joint must be selected, and placed into the
position that may constrain the structure. At the same time, the other joint must be placed in the
position which will not put further strain on that structure. The selected joint must then be measured
for its range of motion. Next, the same must be done with the selected joint, but in contrast, the other
joint must be placed in the position which WILL further constrain the bi articular structure. Once that
has been done, the selected joint s range of motion must be measured once more.
If the range of motion of the selected joint is equal when the other joint is in both positions, the bi
articular structure is passively sufficient. If the range of motion of the selected joint is smaller in the
selected joint when the other joint is in a position that will put further strain on the bi articular
structure, that structure is not passively sufficient.
b. The rectus femoris crosses both the hip and knee. In order to test its passive sufficiency, either of
the joints ranges of motion could be measured. In this example, range of motion will be measured at

Analysis Of Requiem For The American Dream
The film Requiem for the American Dream is a documentary that informs its audience, the American
middle class, that the American Dream has died. The film was produced over a four year period and
was later turned into a book containing three times as much material as the film and became a New
York Times bestseller of the same name (Gold 2016). Considering the length of time this took to
create, and the topics it covers, it is relatively short at only 73 minutes. Despite the time constraint, the
film conveys its message in a way that is understandable to the audience. The principle filmmakers are
Kelly Nyks, Peter Hutchison, and Jared Scott, all of which have worked with Chomsky in past
ventures according to the website IMDb.com. The star of this documentary is Noam Chomsky, while
he is on screen he is shown seated, with a relaxed manner, offscreen he is the narrator. The video has
ten parts that describe how the American Dream has died, beginning with the concept Reducing
Democracy where Chomsky tells viewers that the founding fathers drafted the U.S. Constitution with
the intention to protect wealthy individuals against too much democracy. Next, he addresses Shaping
of Ideology this highlights a memo, sent from Lewis F. Powell Jr. in 1971 detailing the attack on the
American economic system, stressing that the young are being taken away from the ideology of the
status quo (citation needed). Following that is Redesign the Economy this part is about how before the

The Challenges Of Virtual Team Collaboration
The challenges of virtual team collaboration are numerous and significant. However, several
organizational best practices exist, which companies can employ to maximize virtual team
development and collaboration. By applying these practices, organizations can overcome virtual team
challenges, such as time, distance, size, diversity, communication, and specialization. The
organizational best practices fall into four primary categories, namely Executive support, HR
Practices, Leadership Strength, and Team Structure (Gratton Erickson, 2007).
Executive Support: Investing in Signature relationship practices
The success or failure of virtual team collaboration in organizations is often reflected in the
philosophies and support of its executives. For example, when company executives demonstrate
collaborative behaviors and create collaborative environments where social interactions thrive, virtual
team collaboration also thrives. Executives achieve this by establishing, encouraging, and maintaining
strong social interactions throughout the organization. These practices are often tailored to the unique
culture of the organization and are effective because of its unique signature or fit to the organization.
By investing in signature relationship practices, executives can encourage collaboration across the
organization (Gratton Erickson, 2007).

Executives can also influence virtual team development through their actions and

Ethan Frome Naturalism Analysis
Literature has opened up into deeper thinking as the timeline progressed in the early 1900s, naturalism
was an offspring of the event. This theme plays a role into a philosophical standpoint, where certain
concepts of life are scrutinized and/or built up to certain events with probable inclusion of
supernatural principles. The substance that builds the structure of the book Ethan Frome is based of
Naturalism, and what will be observed is how Naturalism can disrupt human communication as
witnessed in the novel.
Naturalism shaped how the individuals live in the story. It open rights up in the prologue as the
narrator describes the isolation prone, depressing vibe the town possesses. Through hardships of
society, Ethan is pressured to marry Zeena because he feared he will be lonely, and he never had a
chance to occupy his dream job as an engineer. This leads to a depression found in Ethan s life,
depression as one of the primary traits of naturalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The obstacle, Ethan being Married to Zeena, erases the possibility of Ethan and Mattie having a
proper relationship, which causes a dysfunctional being between these individuals. How the
relationship unfolds between Ethan and Mattie is the main focus that Wharton projects throughout the
novel.
Naturalism usually disrupts the communication between individuals of what wants to be expressed,
with the help of the concepts mentioned above in this novel. A lack of communication between Ethan
and Zeena s marriage forms, and during this lack of communication Ethan and Mattie grow stronger
feelings for each other that become constricted. Mattie loves Ethan as well because he is kind to her.
As this communication diminishes, Zeena suspects Ethan s

Sexual Double Entendre Definition
The notion that a word as innocuous as boobies can be described as lewd or crude is ridiculous in and
of itself, but the fact that it got two students suspended is beyond absurd. And the school s initial
reasoning for suspension being disrespect, defiance and disruption is a clearly bogus one for simply
wearing a bracelet that offended a faculty member s fragile sensibilities. Then the school changing the
reasoning for suspension to be that the word boobies has a Sexual double entendre is just them
grasping for straws as nearly every word can be a sexual double entendre depending on the context in
which it s used and really why should anybody care if it is anyway. Even if the school contains a

The Olympics Of The 1936 Olympic Games
The 1936 Olympic games in Berlin came as a bolt from the blue; the whole world was caught
unaware, as everyone expected the games to be a huge catastrophe. Despite the fact that Germany was
in great amount of debt after world war one, the Nazis took advantage of the Olympics to promote a
new, strong, and united Germany. But behind closed doors, Germany was establishing racist policies
as well as flourishing its militarism. It s apparent that, Adolf Hitler Nazi dictatorship obscured its
discriminatory, militaristic character while hosting the 1936 Olympics; furthermore, in preparation for
the Olympics, the Nazis made elaborate planning to advance the Nazi cause inside and outside of
Germany without surfacing their chauvinistic character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The International Olympic Committee decision to present Germany the
games was before Germany s major turning point in politics. In 1933 Germany experienced a change
of political leadership; democracy was eradicated, and totalitarianism took its place. Nazi party leader
Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and quickly claimed all aspects of German life. At first,
Hitler was not passionate about hosting the Olympics until the propaganda minister convinced Hitler
that the success of German athletes in the games would reveal Germans (Aryans) dominance to the
world. He argued that spectacular Nazi Games would show to the world that Germans are sports
enthusiasts capable of staging a magnificent athletic festival. Beside visitors would go home to their
countries believing they had nothing to fear from Nazi Germany. Therefore, Hitler emphasized on
recruiting German athletes and extending sports facilities for Olympics competitions. Ultimately the
Nazi party burned the candle at both ends to ensure successful games. In April 1933, a new racist
policy was established: Jewish or part Jewish and Romani athletes were thoroughly disbarred from
German sport facilities and associations. Numerous regulations and rules were created by the Nazis to
shut out Jews from all aspects of German society. Some of the Jews eliminated from the Olympic
team were in fact

  • 2. Integrated Social Sciences Personal Statement One aspect that drew me to the Integrated Social Sciences program is how well rounded the curriculum is. My goal in life is to become a travel writer, and having a wide breadth of knowledge will only help me achieve that. The flexibility in learning and development through this program is important to me not only because of my professional aspirations but my personal ones as well. Learning about other cultures and people has always been an interest of mine, being raised in a multi ethnic household I searched for familiarity in an environment that was atypical of my own. This led to an unrelenting curiosity in the world that persists to this day, and is what drives me towards higher learning. Having previously worked and studied in computer science fields, although finding the topics interesting, I realized that they did not fulfill my need for a wider breadth of knowledge. Through the ISS major, I would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have experienced this multiple times throughout my life in both aspects, and this is a subject that I feel very strongly on. Working in the STEM fields, where there is a predominance of men, I experienced both classmates and professors treating me with disregard or open hostility. There was often times a clear sense that I was not welcome. I have also experienced sexual assault multiple times in my personal life, and I know several other women who have as well. Looking back, I wish I would have had the strength and experience to stand up for myself in both situations. While I cannot change the past, I can change the future, and in taking social science classes I hope to gain knowledge that will enable me to help women around the world deal with discrimination. Because I have been through these situations I realize how hard taking a stand can be, but I hope to be a driving force in changing the conditions for women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Experience At University Of Melbourne I have been a student at University of Melbourne for 4 semesters, and over the commerce course of my study I have developed and grown more than I thought possible. Business Case Analysis has not only given me great experience, but also helped me boost my skills and knowledge through the semester through interactive learning and teamwork. In this course, I have learned how to approach a problem, particularly in business sector, while also professionally maintaining collaborative work in teams. This reflection will firstly analyse my experience in solving cases, and as I go along, I recognized my strengths and weaknesses from my team members and myself. After that, I will discuss my skills that have developed during the course and its impact to my future career as business practitioner. At the end of the reflection, further improvement of the course will be considered. I remember the first and second class, the feeling of being hit with the harsh and abrupt reality that I need to work absolutely hard this semester. But at that time, I was not afraid. Instead, I feel challenged and enthusiastic for what I need to overcome in this subject. I read several cases from international case competition and compare the best solutions from the winner of that competition, with an intention to be more prepared for the first case. For the first case, our group faced a difficult challenge in identifying the strategy to unfold the issue of death spiral for Vector Limited. The energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Generation Debt By Anya Kamenetz In the excerpt from her book, Generation Debt, Anya Kamenetz discusses the major problems affecting people of her generation due to an enormous debt. In an attempt to inform, as well as to mend the situation, Kamenetz s claims were constructed in a fashion that would draw the attention of readers help them understand where she stands in the midst of this predicament. To do this, her messages were developed through the use of several rhetorical devices and strategies such as allusions, anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and metaphors. By alluding to Pearl Harbor, an attack that forever marked (Kamenetz 732) a generation before, Kamenetz was able to show that her generation, while already under an intense pressure, was given another problem that scarred them forever. While personal stories and historical references played a major role in developing her message, Kamenetz also uses rhetorical questions in the excerpt. She questioned why everything America has always its children no longer holds true (Kamenetz 732) and how things would turn out if people of the generation does worse than our parents (Kamenetz 733). The questions allow the reader to think about her claims and accusations as they progress through the excerpt. She addresses a young adult audience who are experiencing the same problems, and accuses the older generation as the source of the problem as a means to allow readers to recognize the reality of the situation. Additionally, Kamenetz uses figurative language, specifically metaphors, as another source for strengthening her message. Growing up, she was taught to expect the world on a plate , but she knew that she would be stuck with the check (Kamenetz 733). To add to this argument, lions have been seen entering the villages, where the ban has been placed, to find food because they would normally eat the elephant carcusses left by trophy hunters. The people of these villages are claiming to be poisoning those animals who trespass in order to save their own crops. Are humans really that much more important than these innocent animals? Trophy Hunting should be banned. There is overwhelming evidence that supports trophy hunting as a negative influence to our environment. Ban Trophy Hunting now, before it wipes a whole species of our planet. The upcoming generations of children on this planet deserve the right to lay eyes on an elephant or a lion, etc. With the continuation of Trophy Hunting, these animals have a less likely chance to survive to 10 years from now (Scientific American). • 10. Analysis Of The Film There Will Be Blood The film There Will Be Blood is a drama directed by Paul Anderson in 2007. It s widely known for the performance of Day Lewis who plays Daniel Plainview, the cinematography, and the screenplay. Set in the early 1900s the plot follows a wealth driven man whose goal is to take over the oil industry with his oil drilling company. Daniel Plainview and his company surveys land for oil and once found they offer the landowners signing bonuses and royalties to build on their property. In the beginning, Daniel is approached by a man who claims to have a significant amount of oil under his families grounds. From here on the film, There Will Be Blood, exhibits a story of a road to riches that both creates and destroys the future. There Will Be Blood displays all the elements of artistic form discussed in class. First, the plot and characters. The plot is of a man whose mission is wealth while along the way he s met with religious problems, family issues, and more. The writers also perfectly executed their cast of characters for the plot. For example, Eli Sunday, played by Paul Dano. Eli gave a sense of hope and kindness in film through his religious beliefs and goals of helping others. This was a nice contrast to the violence and greed that Daniel and his company brought along. Another critical character to the plot was H.W., Daniel s non biological son. H.W., played by Dillon Freasier, was an important addition to the conflicts that arise for Daniel. Specifically, Daniel is met ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Death and Time in Slaughterhouse-Five Death and Time in Slaughterhouse Five We all wish we could travel through time, going back to correct our stupid mistakes or zooming ahead to see the future. In Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse Five, however, time travel does not seem so helpful. Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut s main character, has come unstuck in time. He bounces back and forth between his past, present, and future lives in a roller coaster time trip that proves both senseless and numbing. Examining Billy s time traveling, his life on Tralfamadore, and the novel s schizophrenic structure shows that time travel is actually a metaphor for our human tendency to avoid facing the unpleasant reality of death. Because he cannot control time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are plenty of other moments of time, they reason, when that person is alive. Therefore, death can be overlooked as a chronological inconvenience. This philosophy of life and death they instill in Billy himself, speaking to him in a disembodied voice which floats down into the zoo cage which serves as his home: We spend eternity looking at pleasant moments like today at the zoo. Isn t this a nice moment? Yes. [Billy answered] That s the one thing Earthlings might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: Ignore the awful times, and concentrate on the good ones. (117) But ignoring death and its suffering is exactly what Billy should not be doing, Vonnegut suggests. To do so makes him, like the Tralfamadorians, alien and inhuman. The quality of earnings is an ongoing operation of corporations and other business alike, because the value of a business is the current and future earnings of the firm (Schroeder et al, 2011). These earnings are usually updated quarterly by a firm s financial analyst, which provide this for investors and other users of financial information to make decisions about a firm s financial position in the market. However, there are some differences in the quality of earnings throughout various industries, countries and by competitors. A motor controller is a device or group of devices that serves to govern in some predetermined manner the performance of an electric motor. A motor controller might include a manual or automatic process for starting and stopping the motor, selecting forward or reverse rotation. This project was put together by me, Olen and Melvin. Constructing a motor control panel consists of many factors, such as; meeting the customer s specifications, desired operations, state and local regulations. Every electric motor has to have some sort of way to control it. The motors will have various ways to be started, stopped, reversed, and even ways to control the speed of the motors. These features can be complex depending on the task that the motor will be performing. By being able to do these things with the motors in various ways, helps make the task at hand a much simpler and less time consuming process. Allowing workers to get their job completed more efficiently. In this project that we were instructed to build we started with 240 volts AC power. We ran from the main three phase power to three fuses, then to our starter and overloads then onto our first motor. We repeated the process of Motor 1 for the second motor as we ran to three different fuses than that of the first motor. When then ran from the fuses to a transformer to step the voltage down. A fish s gas exchange system requires water to support the fish s filaments and to hold the lamellae apart so that surface area can be kept large. If a fish were to live in a terrestrial habitat they would be permanently exposed to air. This air would then make the filaments and the lamellae stick together which would then greatly decrease the surface area to volume ratio. As a result, the efficiency of gases diffusing would reduce. Fish s gills would desiccate without the water to keep them moist so the respiratory gases would not be able to dissolve so it can diffuse into the blood. However, due to the process of counter current flow, fish can take in more of the oxygen that is in water. This leads to a greatly efficient gas exchange. Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column has become popular as structural member in buildings due to their excellent performance for structural characteristics, which include high ductility, stiffness, and high strength. The advantages of the Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column over other composite members are that the filled in concrete prolongs local buckling of the steel tube wall, the steel tube provides formwork for the concrete, the tube prevents excessive concrete spalling and composite columns add more stiffness to a frame compared to old style steel frame construction. • 34. Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that. The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had previously invaded Britain. The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most of the year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother). England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time. This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time worshipping gods like we still do today. In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of red, green, yellow, brown and blue. Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and chain mail to protect themselves. Using the S. Fla. Water Mgmt. Dist. v. By evildoers, enemies, and oppressors he means Saul s party. They fell dead and became weak in the war against the Philistines. God forsook the people trying to persecute David, because they have forsaken God (Makrakis, 161 162). His enemies could never do him harm, because time and time again the Lord delivered him. In order to test the passive sufficiency of a bi articular structure, such as a muscle, both joints which that structure crosses must first be identified. Additionally, the movements of those two joints which will constrain that structure must be identified. Next, one joint must be selected, and placed into the position that may constrain the structure. At the same time, the other joint must be placed in the position which will not put further strain on that structure. The selected joint must then be measured for its range of motion. Next, the same must be done with the selected joint, but in contrast, the other joint must be placed in the position which WILL further constrain the bi articular structure. Once that has been done, the selected joint s range of motion must be measured once more. If the range of motion of the selected joint is equal when the other joint is in both positions, the bi articular structure is passively sufficient. If the range of motion of the selected joint is smaller in the selected joint when the other joint is in a position that will put further strain on the bi articular structure, that structure is not passively sufficient. b.
