The Ethical Treatment Of Circus Animals
The circus can be dated back to as far as 1782 in Paris, France where people came to enjoy family
friendly entertainment. The circus has always included tricks and stunts by not only people but also
highly trained animals. For decades now, people have considered the treatment of animal
performances in the circuscruel and unjust. Protesters argue that animals are stripped from their
native lands and forced to preform shows, meanwhile being treated harshly and abused by the
human circus performers. Tigers, elephants, and other animals are trained and forced to entertain
audiences by standing on their heads, jumping through hoops, and doing balance tricks. Spectators
have considered this a spiteful treatment of animals, for it is often physically challenging and
frightening to the animal performers. There have been reports of circus trainers abusing animal
performers with whips, muzzles, and other painful tools. Today, protestors are fighting for animal s
rights and against the use of animals in circuses . Protesters are objecting to animal circus
performers, purely because of the belief that these animals are being forced to do impossible stunts,
are in confined areas, and are abused with painful tools. One of the biggest frustrations of protesters
is the fact that circus animals are held in constant confinement. Protest organization The People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) explains how circus animals in confinement during
travel, are forced to inside inhumane

Cause And Importance Of Communication Technology
Communications have been part of technology since late 1900 were when the internet became
appeal worldwide. Communications technology was a method for people to store data, host
business, interact and have accessibility to resources. Communication technology then became a
trade for information technologies to develop fast growing social media sites that allowed people
to connect with families, friends, and people in general worldwide. In recent years, much
controversial if social media remains a safe place for people worldwide to connect or an unsafe
place that had impact individuals psychological and emotions. To most, communicationtools such
as text messages, email, websites, chat, and social media sites are methods to stay in contact and
connect with families, friends, and acquaintances worldwide. However, now all communication
tools are just not used to connect with loved ones; it has become a hot spot for people to attack
others through the internet. Cyberbullying has become a comfort zone for people to be behind
their technology screen in their personal space to act revenge, criticize, verbal assault, and make
threats to others. While cyber bullyingcontinues to impact innocent lives across worldwide, high
profile death cases are linked to cyberbullying and are the cause of using communication technology
tools.

Measuring the Rate of Rotation in a Simple Electric Motor
Have you ever wondered how an electric motor works? If you have wondered and never got an
explanation this experiment will show you how it works. The objective of this project is to
measure the rate of rotation varying in the size of the magnets. For this project I will need 4 C
batteries, a permanent marker, laser tachometer, a metric ruler, scissors, a screwdriver, copper
wire, wire cutters, electrical tape and Neodymium magnets. This experiment is a simple example of
how nearly every electric motor works. It shows you how magnets and electricity can be used to
generate movement. There have been many people that have perfected the electric motor through
time. Nikola Teslawas the first to invent the AC (alternating current) induction motor in 1888. The
AC (alternating current) created magnetic poles that reversed themselves without mechanical aid,
and caused the revolving part of the electromagnet to spin around the motor. The concept that Tesla
used in his motors are still used today. Electric motors rely on the force of an electromagnet, as
does every electric motor. An electromagnet is created when a current flows through the copper
wire. The electromagnet forms a magnetic fieldaround the coil. A magnetic field is the area around
a magnet where its force can be detected. This magnetic field causes another force which is called
polarity. Polarity describes two areas (north and south poles) of the magnet were the force of the
magnet is the strongest.

The Impact Of Immigration On The Uk
Summary
This reports explores whether immigrants to the UK who are unable to speak English are less
likely to integrate into British society and the wider implications it has on society.
Recommendations for policy are, rather predictably, centred on teaching English to those who need
it. Whilst simple, this seems to be the most effective solution because, if successful, it will prevent
the development of areas where a significant proportion are unable to speak English. Moreover,
engaging in a positive manner, rather than coercive, will encourage social cohesion. Additionally,
often knowledge of a language fuels understanding of a culture. Thus this measure has the potential
to deal with the issues well.
Introduction
Integration and social cohesion are undoubtably integral to British society, and with increasing
immigration it is an important issue to explore. It is undeniable that communication is a vital tool
in enabling people to integrate into communities and thus the presence of those unable to speak
English can be problematic. Research highlights that employment rates for those non proficient in
English are understandably low, and also points out that there a several areas where communities
seem particularly segregated as many are unable to speak the language. In light of this, it is highly
recommended that the government allocates resources to teach people an acceptable standard of
English, which would promote increased involvement with British society and would do

Nuclear power plants generate a mass of electricity using steam generators. The plants are very
controversial concerning their safety with the environment and its role with unstable reactants
like uranium and plutonium. On March 12, 1979, someone at the Three Mile Island s second
reactor, or TMI 2 for short, left a relief valve wide open leading large amounts of nuclear reactant

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Research Paper
How would you react to someone criticizing your religion? Would you hate them or defend them,
in the name of the First Amendment? This is a question people have been pondering after
listening to Ayaan Hirsi Ali s various interviews and speeches. Ayaan is a Somali born woman
who fled to the Netherlands when she was around 23, to escape the marriage her father had
arranged for her to her cousin. She is known as a big criticizer of the religionof Islam, and this is
largely in part because of her own experiences (which you will learn about later in this paper).
Ayaan possesses many qualities that would make people follow a leader: she shows bravery and
perseverance in continuing to speak out about her opinions on Islam, even though many people...

And as soon as you really take note of it, you re going to have to ask yourself, What have I got to
do with this? . ). She also delves into unsafe territory in saying what she says, which she
acknowledges: People have been warning about this backlash for 30 years. (Bethune). This
shows just how persistent she is (though many people, even other Muslims here in America,
have sent her death threats because of her speeches). These are not just good traits to have for a
leader, but anyone could have these. Being brave, persevering, and persisting are all great skills
to have in this world. They will help you with many things: getting good grades, a job, a raise,
etc. If students like us will take away anything from learning about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it should be
that you should not be afraid to speak your mind, and to not judge a book by it s cover (because
Ayaan used to be a devout Muslim but is now an outspoken atheist). Everyone disagrees about
Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam, and that not everyone is bad just because of
their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no two people are exactly the same: One
person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone else may say that Ayaan is being too
harsh to others. Whatever you may believe, you should know that Ayaan Hirsi Ali has changed the
way people think about religion and the restriction of speech

Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Abstract In today s workforce, there is a silent fear
lurking amongst blue and white collar workers alike. There is a worldwide threat of machines
beating people out of jobs that many have invested time and money to acquire. As leaders and
positions of management we are the soothsayers to those masses. What can we as leaders be
prepared to do to satiate the worried minds of the ones that depend on the existence of these
positions? Would it be more detrimental or beneficial to society to reduce the human workforce
and put so many bodies out of work? Does protecting the bottom line conflict with social
responsibility? how management can incorporate a more utilitarian approach and stay in the

Relationship Between ASL And FSL
American Sign Language is the primary language of communication amongst the Deaf community
in the United States. American Sign Language, more commonly referred to as ASL, is intriguing
to many with the ability to hear. Any form of sign language can draw attention from most
bystanders. The use of bodily language as a singular form of communication is vastly different for
those who use body language as an aid for understanding a spoken conversation. Many hearing
people use body language absent mindedly, from opening a one s stance to display dominance, to
crossing arms to display uncertainty or insecurity. However, those who use sign language purposely
adjust their body language in coherence with what they are saying. For example, in ASL, one...

Derived from French Sign Language, ASL has grammar that differs greatly from American English
or even British English. The close relationship between ASL and FSL is because of the first school
for the deaf opened in the United States. The school was founded by a Frenchman whose native
language was French Sign Language. (Tabak) Now many schools for the deaf have been opened
throughout the United States, yet the connections between ASL and FSL remain strong.
Undoubtedly, ASL is a singular language and like any two separate languages, a language barrier
can result between hearing English speaking parents and their deaf children. John Tabak, the author
of Significant Gestures a book on the education system for deaf children, discussed the language
barrier generally between hearing parents and deaf or hard of hearing children. The deaf students
would head to school every morning and spend most of their day conversing in sign, a language that
is all their own, but when the students were sent home the would be subjected to broken
communication through signs, oral speech, lip reading, and writing. Often the written
communication of deaf children is different from hearing students. As ASL is a separate language
from English, it follows an entirely secular grammatical system. Tabak eloquently summed up the
difficulties facing the deaf education system, and the relatively innovative approaches being
implemented to adjust them. He mentions that there was a time when deaf students at Austine
School in Vermont were forced to communicate orally with all peers and teachers. Now students at
Austines can use ASL, which is a language belonging entirely to the Deaf community here in the
United States. Hence the importance of ASL being recognized as its own language and not a
subsection of English as many hearing people

Achieving Project Goals Simulation
How completing the simulation change my perspective of project management
The completion of the stimulation has a critical impact on how I view the general outlook of project
management in the society. Project management is a multifaceted activity that desires and requires
diverse knowledge and skills from the concerned people. The simulation project had many
considerations that took after manipulation of the natural skills and materials into meeting the
elephant project. The directives that were of immense importance came from the knowledge and
skills gained from the course materials and comparative approaches involved throughout the study
period (Choudhury, 1988).
After completing the project, I learnt immense skills and knowledge as regards going beyond
extremes of time and activity in order to meet the objected and non objected calls of the project.
The project on elephants had to be covered within the initial scope that was set during the creation
of the project. In order to fulfill the needs and specifications of the project, the workers had to
increase more of their attention, concentration, and determination. I perceive a project as a tedious
and cheap avenue that can be accomplished if equitable plans have been set before its initialization.
After completing the project, I developed innate skills and knowledge as regards management of
challenges that

Legal Liberalism Calls For Equality
Legal liberalism calls for equality before the law; it was a manner to ensure that there shall be
equality before all citizens, protecting them from unjust statutes or acts the state may incorporate.
However, despite the protections in our constitution, there are instances in American history where
the Supreme Court has endorsed other branches to violate or limit its citizens economic freedom. In
this essay I will cite court cases and documents that incited conflict, most notably substantive due
process and liberty of contract. In light of these cases it prompted a massive transformation in
constitutional jurisprudence such as Equal protections clause, right to privacy, and criminal
defendants rights that moved the nation towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reaction, the butchers filed a lawsuit claiming that this Louisiana law violated their fundamental
rights to pursue happiness and to pursue their calling as butchers. They argued that the right was
protected under the privileges or immunities clause of the 14th amendment, which had been ratified
in 1848. In a 5 4 decision, the supreme Court conflicted with the butchers reasoning. The Supreme
Court ruled that the monopoly inflicted by the state did not violate the 13th and 14th amendments
(privilege and immunities clause); in other words, the claim did not forbid limits on the rights to
use one s property (Lecture). Essentially, the Supreme Court rendered the privileges and immunities
clause of the 14th amendment insignificant. In the Field and Bradley dissent, they argue that the
purpose of the immunities clause was to limit state action, Bradley went so far as to incorporating
the Bill of Rights into the dissent. The Slaughter house case is one of the Supreme Court s worst
decisions plus an example of the U.S. violating its Constitution. The 14th amendment, privileges
and immunities clause states: No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the
privileges or immunities of citizens of the

Walt Disney Influence
Walt Disney s first animated film was Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs in 1937. Over the years
Walt Disney came out with family friendly movies such as, Sleeping Beauty (1959), Pocahontas
(1995), Aladdin (1992), and Cinderella (1950). Walt Disney influenced many people in many ways
with his work. The critic Robert Hughes credited him with inventing Pop art. Hughes wrote, When
in Fantasia, Mickey Mouseclambered up to the (real) podium and shook hands with the (real)
conductor Leopold Stokowski. He also helped reinvent graphic design. He did this by, introducing
the soft, round, bold, colorful forms that decades later would be adopted and adapted by a
vanguard of fine artist.
Walt Disney s films are an informal way for children to learn lessons. This can be compared to the
McGuffey reader. At the end of both stories and films there is a lesson that is taught. In Walt
Disney s Pinocchio, the lesson is to tell the truth and in Cinderella the lesson is to be kind. Walt
Disney films are also based on American history or fairy tales that he Americanized. Some would

why set these films in eras that problematize race in this way? The Princess and the Frog was

The Writing Style of Elie Wiesel Essay
The Writing Style of Elie Wiesel In the memoir Night, Elie Wiesel uses a distinct writing style to
relate to his readers what emotions he experienced and how he changed while in the concentration
camps of Buna, during the Holocaust. He uses techniques like irony, contrast, and an unrealistic
way of describing what happens to accomplish this. By applying these techniques, Wiesel projects a
tone of bitterness, confusion and grief into his story. Through his writing Wiesel gives us a window
into the complete abandonment of reason he adopted and lived in during the Holocaust. Wiesel uses
a black irony to emphasize the absence of normality in the concentration camps. As Eliezer marches
into Auschwitz he notices a sign with the caption,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he uses ambiguous details to describe how the man dies, only saying, Falling back
onto the ground, his face stained with soup... then he moved no more (57). The very descriptive
explanation of when and where the bombing occurred is not as important as the moment the
man dies, yet Wiesel chooses to describe the less important event more than the other. By not
telling us how the man dies he leaves us wondering and makes us conclude how and even if the
prisoner dies. By making us examine the death of the prisoner more closely we are left with a
deeper impression of the event. The sudden change from a peaceful day of rest to one of chaos
is another way of showing the confusion Eliezer feels. The scene of the dying man resonates in
our mind and shows us the horrors of the concentration camps. Wiesel also beautifully illustrates
the desperation of the prisoners in Buna by telling us about a man who would risk death just to
have a bit of extra soup (57). One last writing technique Wiesel employs is an almost unrealistic
quality to the way he describes some events. As Eliezer travels to a new camp he is forced to stay
in a shed, cramped together, one on top of another with the rest of the Jews. There he hears the
sound of a violin, in this dark shed, where the

We Must Focus On Gay Asian Men
What is gaysian? A gaysian is typically a term used to describe any gay man who is also asian.
This term however does extended to lesbians, but for this essay we will focus on gay asian men.
This topic is very personal to me because I am also a gay asian male. Being gaysian puts one into
two very different minority groups in america, you are both homosexual and asain with each of
their own obstacles and stereotypes attached. With this combination however there are very
specific issues that arise. Gaysain face many challenges and issues in america due to being who
they are. In this paper we will look at the history of these challenges and issues and further analyze
them from what we learned in class.
First off I would like to look at stereotypes which surround gaysians and break them down into
their root parts. As with any group of people, gaysians have their own set of stereotypes that are
attached to their identity. Such stereotypes include being feminine, submissive, haveing small
pinieses and being eternal bottoms. Worst of all there is a common thought that they are always
looking for a white man or sugar daddy. I would first like to analyze and break these stereotypes
down. Such stereotypes are made worse by problematic media representation of gay males from
asian cultural backgrounds .
The stereotype of always being feminine goes hand in hand with the demasculinization of all asian
men. The demasculinization of asian men actually goes back to racial profiling and

Seminar Questions On A Thousand Miles For Freedom
Seminar Three Source Evaluation 1.Who created the source? Did the author produce the source
for personal use, for one or more individuals, or for a large audience? What is the source s
purpose? If the source is recollecting an event, how long after the event is the retelling? William
and Ellen Craft created this source, which is called Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom.
William and Ellen came up with a brilliant idea, which was to have Ellen pretend to be a White
male because her skin was to fair. William would act her slave just to escape to freedom. The
audience is for a large group of people especially salve to give them hope and inspiration to
escape to freedom. Also as for the ex slaves all things is possible when you see freedom knocking

himself how to write, with an adventure like this you would want to share this right? It took time
(years) thinking this through because is nearing possible to escape deep in the South running
thousands of miles. Craft waited 12 ears later he decided to share their story. 2.Who is the
original audience? Was the source meant to be public or private? The original audience would
still consider this public for all salves and ex salves in the 1860 s. Moreover, this narrative was
produced without white assistance... Although William narrates their tale, Ellen emerges as a clear

Big data encompasses a wide range of tremendous data generated from various sources such as
mobile device, digital repository, and enterprise application. Big Data is a broader concept then
just data that happens to be big. It is a new paradigm of collecting, storing, handling and extracting
meaning from varieties of data. Big data categorized mainly in 3Vs as follows.
a.Data volume
b.Data variety
c.Data velocity
Data Volume: This defines the available size of data that has been growing every day with multiple
sources from companies, individuals, smart devices, and applications. Recently, rapid growth of
smart devices and social networking, and smart phones send variety of information to network
infrastructure. Larger size of data increased the volume of data that has to be analyzed and
petabytes is common in big data structure.
Data Variety: This define the different types, structures, and format of data that has been gathered
from databases, excel tables, pure text, audio, video, web, GPS data, sensor data, relational
databases, documents, SMS, pdf, flash and so forth. Structure can no longer be imposed in the past
to keep control over analysis. Evolving nature of technology introduced new data format and

Mattel Mattel Strategic Plan
Customer focused strategic planning not always prevent issues from occurring like with Mattel, the
company is still suffering from the seriousness of product recall issues (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Despite Mattel s best efforts not all manufacturing companies overseas are keeping up with Mattel s
high standards (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). China s manufacturing companies say that Mattelis not
providing quality toyplans (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Regardless of who is right or wrong, the
responsibility falls on Mattel, the name on the toy (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Mattel is responsible
for holding their manufacturing companies to high standards (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Unfortunately, not every product produced is going to succeed when it comes to the safety of
children (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). However, the responsibility lies on Mattel to test all products
before and after manufacturing (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Skipping on cost can end up costing an
organization in the long run with recalls (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The power is in the hands of the
consumer to read up on these toys for safety before buying (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The consumer
is also responsible for only buying age appropriate toys for their children (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Mattel s tactical plan is to provide safe, affordable, toys that turn a financial profit (Mukherjee
Pandit, 2009). Next, Mattel wants to adhere to consumers needs and wants by providing safe, age
appropriate toys

Australian Corporation Law
Directors are agents of the company that are selected to act in the best interest of the corporation.
The duties of director s under Australia s Corporation Law will be discussed. The history,
evolution and the future of director s duties will be observed and discussed as well as the
consequences they face if the law is infringed.
Companies hire directors to act on their behalf and manage the corporation based on their values

Judaism s Views On Religion
In order to continue to be viable within society, the beliefs and practices of a religious tradition
must remain dynamic.
Due to society s current changing attitudes, Judaism needs to modify its beliefs and practices to in
order to remain viable and significant to its followers, as well as the rest of the world. By
remaining dynamic, Judaism is able to appeal to individuals by guiding them on beliefs, ethics and
laws of the religious tradition while still remaining relevant to current society. Despite these
changes to maintain its relevance, the true essence of Judaism is still preserved.
Some variants of Judaism such as the Orthodoxy are not very enthusiastic about this statement and
don t essentially agree with it. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The variants allow men and women to sit together during the service. As well as having male
rabbis, Progressive and Conservative also allow and encourage women to become rabbis,
therefore women are able to lead synagogue services. They believe males and females to be
equally important in matters of the church. This belief is also reflected in the prayer book of
Progressive Judaism which has replaced masculine names for God such as King and Lord for
Eternal One and Sovereign etc., so that there is no type of gender inclusive language that would
indicate prejudice, but instead promotes the notion of equality.
Modern Society s current vernacular language is English, contrariwise, the Orthodox synagogue
service is preached entirely in Hebrew by the Rabbi with his delivery facing away from the
congregation. This completely ignores modern society s views on what the vernacular language is
or should be.
In Progressive Judaism however, the rabbi preaches the sermon according to the language of the
people, which is most cases is English, while delivering his sermon towards the congregation. The
Progressive Service caters more for the people, as more individuals are able to equally participate
in all aspects of the Synagogue service as they are able to understand what is being thought.
Conservative Judaism believes in following the traditional value of teaching in Hebrew for they
regard the language as irreplaceable and utterly important to Judaism. With this being said

Chinese Influence in Japan
In the early seventh century, Japan borrowed heavily from China, taking many ideas and
philosophies. It was instituted by Prince Shotoku, the crown regent in Japan at the time. He sent
emissaries to China during the reign of the Tang Dynasty, in a movement known as the Taika
Reforms. During this time, Japan was influenced by China to unify the country in order to design a
more developed country, evident with new infrastructure being created and a new system of
government implemented.
To begin with, Chinese influence in Japan gave the idea of infrastructure available to the people.

Sex Through The Centuries By Emily Dickinson
Sex through the Centuries
When writing a poem that asks or pleads for sex one must be careful to disguise it so as to not
scare off the person for whom it is intended. The two poems listed below accomplish this by
asking for sex without blatantly asking for sex. The earlier writing from 1606 Come, My Celia,
Let us prove by Ben Jonson shows more eloquence and wordplay than the more recent poem Wild
Nights Wild Nights by Emily Dickinson. This is partly because of the way that people spoke at that
point in time, and partly to disguise the meaning with subtlety. The more recent poem shows less
eloquence, but it does have a double meaning. They are both, however, deceptive on the surface
with underlying sexual messages in their context.
A comparison of Come, My Celia, Let us prove by Ben Jonson and Wild Nights Wild Nights by
Emily Dickinson shows that love and desire are not a new thing, but that they have existed for a
long time. The message is the same, but the way that they are expressed differs. Both of these
poems are about the urgency of a romantic encounter that the authors wish to happen. Come, My
Celia, Let us prove was originally a song in the play Volpone (1605), where Volpone
unsuccessfully attempts to seduce Celia by offering gifts and pleasure. Edwin S. Lindsey,
University of Chattanooga, writes Celia, the beautiful wife of old Corvino, is betrayed into the
hands of the crafty and wanton old Volpone. He tries to seduce her, using all the lures of wealth,

Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And...
Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1
Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014
P1
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and
web functionality.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its
customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more
expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all)
as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT)
although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure.
Web Hosting Services
Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their
websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone
trying to access it via a server.
Domain Structure
The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of
numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this
makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a
website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various
resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos.

governance. There have been several institutions in the country established to fight corruption in the

According to this amendment the organization had to seek government approval to investigate and
file a case, therefore it limited the operational capacity of the commission. Based on the complaints
from the lawmakers from all over the country, an amendment was made that allowed the
commission to be more independent and not subjected to the government approvals for their
investigation. Although the commission is independent by law, in practice the politicians and civil
society have turned their attention to the selection process of the commission leadership. (Global

However, due to the elections in December 2008, many cases were dropped. In 2010 a set of

[edit] Solution
Once the Karnaugh Map has been constructed and the groups derived, the solution can be found by
eliminating extra variables within groups using the axioms of boolean algebra. It can be implied
that rather than eliminating the variables that change within a grouping, the minimal function can
be derived by noting which variables stay the same.
For the Red grouping: * The variable A maintains the same state (1) in the whole encircling,
therefore it should be included in the term for the red encircling. * Variable B does not maintain
the same state (it shifts from 1 to 0), and should therefore be excluded. * C does not change: it is
always 0. Because C is 0, it has to be negated before it is included (thus, ). * D changes, so it is
excluded as well.
Thus the first term in the Boolean sum of products expression is
For the Green grouping we see that A and B maintain the same state, but C and D change. B is 0
and has to be negated before it can be included. Thus the second term is
In the same way, the Blue grouping gives the term
The solutions of each grouping are combined into:

A Broadway Dream Book Analysis
Picture it. Broadway during the 1920s. Florenz Ziegfeld produces a revue called Ziegfeld s
Follies. Girls appear in elaborate costumes bordering on the risque. Gangsters are running rampant
from Al Capone to Bugs Moran to Machine Gun Kelly. This is the world in which Agnes Bobbie
Storey finds herself.
Agnes family lived in Leaholme until the war nearly closed their inn, forcing them to find work
in London. Shortly afterward, her father dies of Spanish Influenza, and Agnes is forced to find a
job to help support her family. She manages to land a job at a restaurant belonging to a friend of
her father. It is here that she wins The Most Beautiful Barmaid in London contest. This sparks
Andre Charlot to offer her a spot in his revue that is traveling to Broadway. She immediately
accepts, thus beginning her love affair with fame, success, and New York City.
A Broadway Dream by Jane Hill is a fiction based on the historical person by the name of Bobbie
Storey. Amazon has this correctly classified as historical fiction or biographical fiction; however,
it was incorrectly classified as romance on OBC. The book is fairly short with only about 200 pages.
It may seem odd, but my favorite part of this story was the ending. I am not familiar with the
history of the 1920s nor the life of Bobbie Storey. Therefore when I read the ending, I was actually
taken aback. To me, the ending contributed to the reality of the story. It s unfortunate that I cannot
share this ending, but I

The Magnificent Life of the Black Hole
The magnificent life of a black hole. The black hole is a mystery that you will want to learn about.
A black hole does many wonderful things in outer space. Black holes in outer space have been a
mystery for years. There are many questions such as how is a black hole born and how does a
black hole grow.
What is a black hole?
A black hole is a dead star in outer space. It is where planets and stars disappear at. The gravity of a
black hole is way too strong ( Aguilar 39). The black hole is a weird object in outer space and a
black hole is formed when two giant stars or more collapse together and basically vacuum
anything that comes near it ( Aguilar 39). It might be gases around the black hole. People call it a

They are also born from something called supernovae and the skies may give a flash like a
supernovae showing or giving a sign such as a black hole is forming or is creating a black hole.
These are a lot of different ways a black hole in outer space is created or is born (Caltech.edu).
How does a black hole grow? Black holes grow by eating other stars (Science Technology from
the U). Black holes sometimes constantly swallow stars because they are too close to the black
hole (Science Technology from the U). First, Scientists found out that black holes grow very big
because they are sucking binary stars, and they also discovered that there are two ways that
causes a black hole to grow super big and they are with gas clouds and with stars (Science
Technology from the U). Secondly, they also grow by sucking in anything that comes near it.
Black holes mostly grow super big by stars because sometimes there is gas and sometimes there
is not. There are a large amount of stars sucked into a black hole. Black holes come in different
sizes such as small, medium, and large. It s hard to measure a black hole (Mack 31). Third, there
is no real surface to measure of a black hole so that makes it hard to measure a black hole (Mack
31). There is only a boundary around the black hole and the boundary around the black hole is
called an event horizon

Machiavelli s The Prince
Niccolo Machiavelli s advice towards leaders in his book The Prince is both relevant and not
relevant today in many ways. The European leader that I have chosen to prove what advice
Machiavelli gave in The Prince is relevant and what is not, is Edward Heath. Some of Edwards
work relates to the advice given by Machiavelli while many of it is the pure opposite of
Machiavelli s advice. Edward Heath was prime Minister for the Conservative Party from June
1970 through March 1975. While he was in ruling, in 1972 unemployment began to rise
considerably in Europe. In order to to help this crisis and reduce the amount of unemployment
Heath inflated the economy which eventually made everything worse. Machiavelli said, He who

whose actions clash with the times will not be successful. Machiavelli is trying to say that when a

Many years later people figured out that it is to be untrue. What Edward did, has caused a great
deal of damage to the country. Edward was dishonest. Machiavelli talks about being dishonest many
times in his book, The Prince. Machiavelli quotes in his book, A wise lord cannot, nor ought he
to, keep his promises when such observance would place him at a disadvantage, and when the
reasons for which he gave his word no longer exist. Machiavelli is basically saying it s ok to be
dishonest and not keep your promise in order to be a great leader. This is not true because
Edward lied and that did not make him a powerful or a better leader, it just made him the very
opposite. Being dishonest is one thing that is not true or relevant to being a successful leader

The Importance Of Reading In Education
The United States is increasingly becoming a nation of nonreaders. In 2013, it was reported that
32 million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty one percent of the adults
that same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally, nineteen percent of the high school
graduates could not read (Maddie Crum. The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The
Huffington Post). This is alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will
suffer from illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon readingin future years. If
we continue to neglect reading as a nation the literacyrate of children will decrease. Due to many
parents having reading difficulties themselves, they do not read to their kids at a young age.
Often these parents do not encourage reading. According to the U.S Department of Education,
when there is a low amount of parent support at home the classroom reading score is below the
national average by 46 points. When there is a high amount of parental support at home the
classroom reading score is above the national average by 28 points (NEA Facts about Children s
Literacy ). Children with low parental support come to school behind their classmates who
experienced reading at a young age. When parents read to their children they learn early reading
skills, such as reading from left to right, the meaning of words, and it increases their vocabulary.

Listeria monocytogenes is a dangerous bacterium capable of contaminating food products if not

paper will thoroughly examine the origin of this federal policy, the influences on its creation and its
amendments. The stakeholders influencing the construction as well as the impacts this policy has

37 The purpose of this latest amendment was to ultimately improve the oversight and
compliance activities of R.T.E foods with respect to their potential to support the growth of
Listeria. For example, it is now a requirement that environmental monitoring programs are
incorporated in to all plants and are used in the production of R.T.E food products. 38
Furthermore, the definition of R.T.E foods was updated and expanded upon with regards to
which foods display the potential to grow of L. monocytogenes and a more detailed list of foods
prone to contamination. 39 This policy revision also focused aimed to provide an even greater
focus to at protecting the high risk members of society, specifically the infants, pregnant women
and the elderly. 40 This aspect of the 2011 policy decision was greatly influenced by the
European cases of listeriosis regarding the decision to utilize more efficient risk communication

41 The majority of European cases have been attributed to elderly population, as they are
exceedingly prone to becoming ill. Therefore, this provided even more need to center the policy on
these at risk groups.

Importance Of Abolition Of Child Labour
The effective abolition of child labour is one of the most urgent challenges of our time. Today,
we have a better grasp of the size and the shape of the problem. More than 200 million child
labourers worldwide, some 180 million are now suspected to be toiling in the worst forms of child
labour those activities that the global community has unanimously agreed are inexcusable under
any circumstances and must be eliminated without de lay. The persistence on such a scale of this
violation of children s basic human rights casts a shadow over us all. The past decade has seen an
unprecedented convergence of thought and action around this cause, in recognition of the fact that
the abolition of child labour is an issue at the heart of social and economic development and not at
its margins. The ILO s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour(IPEC) has,
over its ten years of existence, become the largest single technical cooperation programme of the
Organization. The ILO will mark the first World Day against Child Labour on 12 June 2002.

relatively well known for adult workers,11 but more needs to be learned about the short and long
term effects of different types of work on girls and boys of various ages and health status.12 Such
understanding is needed in order to decide what types of work to prohibit for children under the

Yes Money Can Make You Happy By Cass R. Sunstein
Undoubtedly, money is and has been arguably the most important aspect of any society in the
world. Money is an essential piece of every day life because of the fact that nearly everything comes
with a price tag. With how important the aspect of money has become, there have been arguments
about whether money can truly make an individual happy. This particular topic has been highly
controversial with multiple different stands on the effect of money on happiness. With that being
said, money does influence people and makes them happier because they can live comfortably
without worry, it allows for many dreams to become realities, and it provides the opportunity to
give back and help others. First, money increases the happiness of people because... Show more

In many instances, people cannot give back because they desperately need the money themselves.
An increase in prosperity would present the opportunity to provide for themselves along with help
support people who are not as fortunate as them. To support the claim that giving back to others
produces happiness, Cass Sunstein, from the article Yes, Money Can Make You Happy writes, In
one study, the best prediction of people s happiness was not how much they devoted to personal
spending, but instead how much they gave to others (Sunstein 271). The study that was completed
produced findings that displayed a relationship between sharing with others and personal happiness.
Michael Norton also presented similar feelings during his TED talk presentation titled, How to Buy
Happiness. In this video presentation he describes a study that recorded the feelings of
undergraduate college students when it came to spending money. The method involved giving
these students money with the freedom of spending the money on themselves or on others. As a
result of the study, Norton shared, When we called people back at the end of the day, people who
spent money on other people got happier, while people who spent the money on themselves did not
change (Norton). Norton illustrates the benefit of spending money prosocially. Both of these
sources agree with each other

The Terri Schiavo Case Study
What legal impact did this case have on legislation? The Terri Shiavo case had a significant
impact on legislation. After numerous appeals in the court regarding both removing as well as
reinstating ANH (Artificial Nutrition and Hydration), the in 2003, the Florida House and Senate
passed Terri s Law which for the first time in history granted permission to governor to direct a
specific medical act be carried out on the patient. In 2004, the Florida Supreme court declared
Terri s Law as retroactive legislation citing separation of powers and citizens right to privacy as
justification. What ethical issues were involved? The main ethical issue that was involved in the
Terri Shivao case was whether administering Artificial Nutrition and Hydration was morally
obligatory or optional. The other ethical issues that were involved were that of autonomy,
beneficence and non maleficence. Was her autonomy permitted? Why or why not? The principle
of autonomy focuses primarily on the concept of independence and values the ability of the
individual to make rational and logical choices. For those individuals who are incapable of making
sound decisions on their own, the standard of substituted judgement should be followed which
describes the decision that the patient would make for themselves if they were mentally capable of
doing so. Terri Shiavo would not have wanted herself to suffer the pain of her vegetative state, yet
her husband, Michael Schiavo took many years to

Sea Ice Has Evolved Over Time
HISTORY CONTROVERSY FROM THE PAST In order to provide context for the recent
decline of ice in the sea, it is imperative to understand how the sea ice has varied over the past
two centuries. Of particular interest, the period around 1920 1940 showed an increase in almost
twice the global average rate in past 100 years. [ ] The warming during this time can be used to
compare the decline of sea ice observed since 1979, but what will also be discussed is how this
time period was also quite controversial due to its substantial variance between the official views
and views held by other people. The reliability of the sea ice observations during the first half of the
20th century according to some people cannot provide certainty to estimating

Personal Development and Reflective Reasoning in Nursing...
Maybe reflective practices offer us a way of trying to make sense of the uncertainty in our
workplaces and the courage to work competently and ethically at the edge of order and chaos...
(Ghaye, 2000, p.7)
In order to fully understand the personal development and reflective reasoning in relation to your
development in the Nursing field, one will have to define these two terminologies. Personal
development means to include activities that improve awareness, can develop potential that will
ultimately enhance the quality of life. Medical colleges advocate personal development plans as a
basis for continuing professional development. Whereas, reflective reasoning is where a nurse can
apply learning and insights of others into their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be able to reflect one must step outside the experience in order to make the observance
comprehendible Gray (1998). To do this, one must have motivation. When speaking of motivation,
task variety and participation allows each member of the team to use different skills as well as
rotating the less desirable tasks giving a cohesive feeling to the team while motivating them. Bowen
and Lawler (1992), argue practices that empower such as providing organizational information to
employee, bureaucratic control reduction and increased self power all helps to increase employee
motivation. French and Raven (1959) add that motivation is a characteristic that makes one want to
do or carryout a task willingly without being directed.
Leadership is an important role in life and an even more important role in the success of a nurse.
To be a leader one must be creative. Creativity results from engaging in surroundings to seek new
possibilities. For the best outcome of reflection, and the use of creativity, one should be as
impulsive as possible in recording thoughts and feelings. Efficient clinical leaders are supposed to
able to help others to see and understand situations from various outlooks and effective clinical
nurse leaders must be willing to look for new ways of doing things. One theory that can be readily

The As A New Way Of Telling Stories
The use of disguises in the arts has been around since the introduction of the theater. When
eighteenth century Britain latched onto the concept in literature, it took on whole different
meanings. Disguises no longer had to be masks or wardrobe changes, they could be taking on
different personas or creating different characters. Disguises had become a staple in literature, and
authors were creating their own worlds with them. In The Imperfect Enjoyment by John Wilmot,
Earl of Rochester, disguises allowed him to create a persona for his work that allows readers to
separate the author from the persona. In Moll Flandersby Daniel Defoe, Defoe acts as both the fake
character of Moll Flanders and fake editor of her autobiography to create a... Show more content on

However, once readers delve into the poem, the persona becomes even more apparent. The
persona in this piece exudes confidence, even in light of not being able to perform. While the
persona continues to get angry and frustrated over the situation, which Rochester writes in ( And
rage at last confirms me impotent, ), there is still the sense that the persona is disguising a
confidence that Rochester himself possesses (Rochester, 2206). For Rochester to take on this
piece and create such an elaborate persona, it shows his level of understanding of the poem, as
well as his education, both of which would give him reason to be confident. By employing this
in the piece, it allows the writers personality to come through, while still proving to readers that
this is in fact just a persona. The most confident aspect of the piece is Rochester s approach to
the female companion. He unconventionally gives her lines in the poem, such as All this to love
and rapture s due; / Must we not pay a debt to pleasure too? , which not only creates the idea that
the persona did not give up in the poem, but that Rochester is confident in his ability to create
something more powerful from the Avid piece for his persona (Rochester, 2206). The persona
created by Rochester in his work allows him to explore subjects without readers linking them to
him. Defoe is able to use disguises

  • 2. The Ethical Treatment Of Circus Animals The circus can be dated back to as far as 1782 in Paris, France where people came to enjoy family friendly entertainment. The circus has always included tricks and stunts by not only people but also highly trained animals. For decades now, people have considered the treatment of animal performances in the circuscruel and unjust. Protesters argue that animals are stripped from their native lands and forced to preform shows, meanwhile being treated harshly and abused by the human circus performers. Tigers, elephants, and other animals are trained and forced to entertain audiences by standing on their heads, jumping through hoops, and doing balance tricks. Spectators have considered this a spiteful treatment of animals, for it is often physically challenging and frightening to the animal performers. There have been reports of circus trainers abusing animal performers with whips, muzzles, and other painful tools. Today, protestors are fighting for animal s rights and against the use of animals in circuses . Protesters are objecting to animal circus performers, purely because of the belief that these animals are being forced to do impossible stunts, are in confined areas, and are abused with painful tools. One of the biggest frustrations of protesters is the fact that circus animals are held in constant confinement. Protest organization The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) explains how circus animals in confinement during travel, are forced to inside inhumane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Measuring the Rate of Rotation in a Simple Electric Motor Have you ever wondered how an electric motor works? If you have wondered and never got an explanation this experiment will show you how it works. The objective of this project is to measure the rate of rotation varying in the size of the magnets. For this project I will need 4 C batteries, a permanent marker, laser tachometer, a metric ruler, scissors, a screwdriver, copper wire, wire cutters, electrical tape and Neodymium magnets. This experiment is a simple example of how nearly every electric motor works. It shows you how magnets and electricity can be used to generate movement. There have been many people that have perfected the electric motor through time. Nikola Teslawas the first to invent the AC (alternating current) induction motor in 1888. The AC (alternating current) created magnetic poles that reversed themselves without mechanical aid, and caused the revolving part of the electromagnet to spin around the motor. The concept that Tesla used in his motors are still used today. Electric motors rely on the force of an electromagnet, as does every electric motor. An electromagnet is created when a current flows through the copper wire. The electromagnet forms a magnetic fieldaround the coil. A magnetic field is the area around a magnet where its force can be detected. This magnetic field causes another force which is called polarity. Polarity describes two areas (north and south poles) of the magnet were the force of the magnet is the strongest. The movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Impact Of Immigration On The Uk Summary This reports explores whether immigrants to the UK who are unable to speak English are less likely to integrate into British society and the wider implications it has on society. Recommendations for policy are, rather predictably, centred on teaching English to those who need it. Whilst simple, this seems to be the most effective solution because, if successful, it will prevent the development of areas where a significant proportion are unable to speak English. Moreover, engaging in a positive manner, rather than coercive, will encourage social cohesion. Additionally, often knowledge of a language fuels understanding of a culture. Thus this measure has the potential to deal with the issues well. Introduction Integration and social cohesion are undoubtably integral to British society, and with increasing immigration it is an important issue to explore. It is undeniable that communication is a vital tool in enabling people to integrate into communities and thus the presence of those unable to speak English can be problematic. Research highlights that employment rates for those non proficient in English are understandably low, and also points out that there a several areas where communities seem particularly segregated as many are unable to speak the language. In light of this, it is highly recommended that the government allocates resources to teach people an acceptable standard of English, which would promote increased involvement with British society and would do ... This is a question people have been pondering after listening to Ayaan Hirsi Ali s various interviews and speeches. Ayaan is a Somali born woman who fled to the Netherlands when she was around 23, to escape the marriage her father had arranged for her to her cousin. She is known as a big criticizer of the religionof Islam, and this is largely in part because of her own experiences (which you will learn about later in this paper). This shows just how persistent she is (though many people, even other Muslims here in America, have sent her death threats because of her speeches). These are not just good traits to have for a leader, but anyone could have these. Being brave, persevering, and persisting are all great skills to have in this world. They will help you with many things: getting good grades, a job, a raise, etc. If students like us will take away anything from learning about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it should be that you should not be afraid to speak your mind, and to not judge a book by it s cover (because Ayaan used to be a devout Muslim but is now an outspoken atheist). Everyone disagrees about Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam, and that not everyone is bad just because of their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no two people are exactly the same: One person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone else may say that Ayaan is being too harsh to others. American Sign Language, more commonly referred to as ASL, is intriguing to many with the ability to hear. Any form of sign language can draw attention from most bystanders. The use of bodily language as a singular form of communication is vastly different for those who use body language as an aid for understanding a spoken conversation. Many hearing people use body language absent mindedly, from opening a one s stance to display dominance, to crossing arms to display uncertainty or insecurity. However, those who use sign language purposely adjust their body language in coherence with what they are saying. For example, in ASL, one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Derived from French Sign Language, ASL has grammar that differs greatly from American English or even British English. The close relationship between ASL and FSL is because of the first school for the deaf opened in the United States. The school was founded by a Frenchman whose native language was French Sign Language. (Tabak) Now many schools for the deaf have been opened throughout the United States, yet the connections between ASL and FSL remain strong. Undoubtedly, ASL is a singular language and like any two separate languages, a language barrier can result between hearing English speaking parents and their deaf children. John Tabak, the author of Significant Gestures a book on the education system for deaf children, discussed the language barrier generally between hearing parents and deaf or hard of hearing children. The deaf students would head to school every morning and spend most of their day conversing in sign, a language that is all their own, but when the students were sent home the would be subjected to broken communication through signs, oral speech, lip reading, and writing. Often the written communication of deaf children is different from hearing students. As ASL is a separate language from English, it follows an entirely secular grammatical system. Tabak eloquently summed up the difficulties facing the deaf education system, and the relatively innovative approaches being implemented to adjust them. He mentions that there was a time when deaf students at Austine School in Vermont were forced to communicate orally with all peers and teachers. Now students at Austines can use ASL, which is a language belonging entirely to the Deaf community here in the United States. Hence the importance of ASL being recognized as its own language and not a subsection of English as many hearing people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The directives that were of immense importance came from the knowledge and skills gained from the course materials and comparative approaches involved throughout the study period (Choudhury, 1988). The project on elephants had to be covered within the initial scope that was set during the creation of the project. In order to fulfill the needs and specifications of the project, the workers had to increase more of their attention, concentration, and determination. They argued that the right was protected under the privileges or immunities clause of the 14th amendment, which had been ratified in 1848. In a 5 4 decision, the supreme Court conflicted with the butchers reasoning. The Supreme Court ruled that the monopoly inflicted by the state did not violate the 13th and 14th amendments (privilege and immunities clause); in other words, the claim did not forbid limits on the rights to use one s property (Lecture). Essentially, the Supreme Court rendered the privileges and immunities clause of the 14th amendment insignificant. Over the years Walt Disney came out with family friendly movies such as, Sleeping Beauty (1959), Pocahontas (1995), Aladdin (1992), and Cinderella (1950). Walt Disney influenced many people in many ways with his work. The critic Robert Hughes credited him with inventing Pop art. Hughes wrote, When in Fantasia, Mickey Mouseclambered up to the (real) podium and shook hands with the (real) conductor Leopold Stokowski. He also helped reinvent graphic design. He did this by, introducing the soft, round, bold, colorful forms that decades later would be adopted and adapted by a vanguard of fine artist. The Writing Style of Elie Wiesel Essay The Writing Style of Elie Wiesel In the memoir Night, Elie Wiesel uses a distinct writing style to relate to his readers what emotions he experienced and how he changed while in the concentration camps of Buna, during the Holocaust. He uses techniques like irony, contrast, and an unrealistic way of describing what happens to accomplish this. By applying these techniques, Wiesel projects a tone of bitterness, confusion and grief into his story. Through his writing Wiesel gives us a window into the complete abandonment of reason he adopted and lived in during the Holocaust. Wiesel uses a black irony to emphasize the absence of normality in the concentration camps. As Eliezer marches into Auschwitz he notices a sign with the caption,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, he uses ambiguous details to describe how the man dies, only saying, Falling back onto the ground, his face stained with soup... then he moved no more (57). The very descriptive explanation of when and where the bombing occurred is not as important as the moment the man dies, yet Wiesel chooses to describe the less important event more than the other. By not telling us how the man dies he leaves us wondering and makes us conclude how and even if the prisoner dies. By making us examine the death of the prisoner more closely we are left with a deeper impression of the event. The sudden change from a peaceful day of rest to one of chaos is another way of showing the confusion Eliezer feels. The scene of the dying man resonates in our mind and shows us the horrors of the concentration camps. Wiesel also beautifully illustrates the desperation of the prisoners in Buna by telling us about a man who would risk death just to have a bit of extra soup (57). One last writing technique Wiesel employs is an almost unrealistic quality to the way he describes some events. Being gaysian puts one into two very different minority groups in america, you are both homosexual and asain with each of their own obstacles and stereotypes attached. With this combination however there are very specific issues that arise. Gaysain face many challenges and issues in america due to being who they are. In this paper we will look at the history of these challenges and issues and further analyze them from what we learned in class. First off I would like to look at stereotypes which surround gaysians and break them down into their root parts. As with any group of people, gaysians have their own set of stereotypes that are attached to their identity. Such stereotypes include being feminine, submissive, haveing small pinieses and being eternal bottoms. Worst of all there is a common thought that they are always looking for a white man or sugar daddy. I would first like to analyze and break these stereotypes down. Such stereotypes are made worse by problematic media representation of gay males from asian cultural backgrounds . This belief is also reflected in the prayer book of Progressive Judaism which has replaced masculine names for God such as King and Lord for Eternal One and Sovereign etc., so that there is no type of gender inclusive language that would indicate prejudice, but instead promotes the notion of equality. Modern Society s current vernacular language is English, contrariwise, the Orthodox synagogue service is preached entirely in Hebrew by the Rabbi with his delivery facing away from the congregation. In Progressive Judaism however, the rabbi preaches the sermon according to the language of the people, which is most cases is English, while delivering his sermon towards the congregation. • 28. Sex Through The Centuries By Emily Dickinson Sex through the Centuries When writing a poem that asks or pleads for sex one must be careful to disguise it so as to not scare off the person for whom it is intended. The two poems listed below accomplish this by asking for sex without blatantly asking for sex. The earlier writing from 1606 Come, My Celia, Let us prove by Ben Jonson shows more eloquence and wordplay than the more recent poem Wild Nights Wild Nights by Emily Dickinson. This is partly because of the way that people spoke at that point in time, and partly to disguise the meaning with subtlety. The more recent poem shows less eloquence, but it does have a double meaning. They are both, however, deceptive on the surface with underlying sexual messages in their context. A comparison of Come, My Celia, Let us prove by Ben Jonson and Wild Nights Wild Nights by Emily Dickinson shows that love and desire are not a new thing, but that they have existed for a long time. The message is the same, but the way that they are expressed differs. Both of these poems are about the urgency of a romantic encounter that the authors wish to happen. Come, My Celia, Let us prove was originally a song in the play Volpone (1605), where Volpone unsuccessfully attempts to seduce Celia by offering gifts and pleasure. Edwin S. Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1 Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014 P1 Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and web functionality. Internet Service Providers (ISP) ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure. Web Hosting Services Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone trying to access it via a server. Domain Structure The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a website than to remember its I.P. address. It can be implied that rather than eliminating the variables that change within a grouping, the minimal function can be derived by noting which variables stay the same. For the Red grouping: * The variable A maintains the same state (1) in the whole encircling, therefore it should be included in the term for the red encircling. * Variable B does not maintain the same state (it shifts from 1 to 0), and should therefore be excluded. * C does not change: it is always 0. To support the claim that giving back to others produces happiness, Cass Sunstein, from the article Yes, Money Can Make You Happy writes, In one study, the best prediction of people s happiness was not how much they devoted to personal spending, but instead how much they gave to others (Sunstein 271). The study that was completed produced findings that displayed a relationship between sharing with others and personal happiness. Michael Norton also presented similar feelings during his TED talk presentation titled, How to Buy Happiness. In this video presentation he describes a study that recorded the feelings of undergraduate college students when it came to spending money. The method involved giving these students money with the freedom of spending the money on themselves or on others. As a result of the study, Norton shared, When we called people back at the end of the day, people who spent money on other people got happier, while people who spent the money on themselves did not change (Norton). In 2004, the Florida Supreme court declared Terri s Law as retroactive legislation citing separation of powers and citizens right to privacy as justification. What ethical issues were involved? The main ethical issue that was involved in the Terri Shivao case was whether administering Artificial Nutrition and Hydration was morally obligatory or optional. The other ethical issues that were involved were that of autonomy, beneficence and non maleficence. Was her autonomy permitted? Why or why not? The principle of autonomy focuses primarily on the concept of independence and values the ability of the individual to make rational and logical choices. For those individuals who are incapable of making sound decisions on their own, the standard of substituted judgement should be followed which describes the decision that the patient would make for themselves if they were mentally capable of doing so. Terri Shiavo would not have wanted herself to suffer the pain of her vegetative state, yet her husband, Michael Schiavo took many years to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The As A New Way Of Telling Stories The use of disguises in the arts has been around since the introduction of the theater. When eighteenth century Britain latched onto the concept in literature, it took on whole different meanings. Disguises no longer had to be masks or wardrobe changes, they could be taking on different personas or creating different characters. Disguises had become a staple in literature, and authors were creating their own worlds with them. In The Imperfect Enjoyment by John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, disguises allowed him to create a persona for his work that allows readers to separate the author from the persona. In Moll Flandersby Daniel Defoe, Defoe acts as both the fake character of Moll Flanders and fake editor of her autobiography to create a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, once readers delve into the poem, the persona becomes even more apparent. The persona in this piece exudes confidence, even in light of not being able to perform. While the persona continues to get angry and frustrated over the situation, which Rochester writes in ( And rage at last confirms me impotent, ), there is still the sense that the persona is disguising a confidence that Rochester himself possesses (Rochester, 2206). For Rochester to take on this piece and create such an elaborate persona, it shows his level of understanding of the poem, as well as his education, both of which would give him reason to be confident. By employing this in the piece, it allows the writers personality to come through, while still proving to readers that this is in fact just a persona. The most confident aspect of the piece is Rochester s approach to the female companion. He unconventionally gives her lines in the poem, such as All this to love and rapture s due; / Must we not pay a debt to pleasure too? , which not only creates the idea that the persona did not give up in the poem, but that Rochester is confident in his ability to create something more powerful from the Avid piece for his persona (Rochester, 2206). The persona created by Rochester in his work allows him to explore subjects without readers linking them to him. Defoe is able to use disguises ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
