Intermediate Accounting (Spiceland) Chaper 5 Cases Essay
CASES
Real World Case 5 1
Requirement 1
A bill and hold strategy accelerates the recognition of revenue. In this case, sales that would
normally have occurred in 1998 were recorded in 1997. Assuming a positive gross profit on these
sales, earnings in 1997 is inflated.
Requirement 2
A customer would probably not be expected to pay for goods purchased using this bill and hold
strategy until the goods were actually received. Receivables would therefore increase.
Requirement 3
Sales that would normally have been recorded in 1998 were recorded in 1997. This bill and hold
strategy shifted sales revenue and therefore earnings from 1998 to 1997.

Usually, these remaining uncertainties can be accounted for by estimating and recording
allowances for anticipated returns and bad debts, thus allowing revenue and related costs to be
recognized at point of delivery. But occasionally, an abnormal degree of uncertainty causes point of
delivery revenue recognition not to be appropriate. Revenue recognition after delivery sometimes is
appropriate for installment sales and when a right of return exists.
Judgment Case 5 3
Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average period
members will continue to be members. Even though the fee is nonrefundable, it is not earned until
services are provided. Since there is no contractual period of service, it must be estimated. Mega
would be justified in recognizing only $3 of the initial fee immediately to offset the cost of the
membership card. The payment option chosen by members does not affect the revenue recognition
policy.
The monthly fee should be recognized as revenue upon billing, as long as adequate provision is
made for possible uncollectible amounts.
Judgment Case 5 4
The revenue recognition policy is questionable. The liberal trade in policy causes gross profit to be
overstated on the original sale and understated on the trade in sale. This results from the granting

The Use Of Immunotherapy And Genetic Engineering
Organ transplants save thousands of lives each year and are one of the most significant medical
innovations of the past century. Despite that, each year, the number of patients on the waiting list
continues to grow, while the number of donors and transplants remains stagnant. One solution
scientists are investigating to solve this problem is xenotransplantation, a procedure which involves
the transplantation, implantation, or infusion of live cells, tissues, or organs from a non primate
source into a primate recipient (Samdani). This procedure has the potential to benefit thousands by
providing a treatment for a wide range of debilitating diseases and aiding in the transplantation
process. However, like any other surgical procedure,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only will xenotransplantation cure diseases, but will also serve as a source of organs and
tissues for transplant. Worldwide, very few human organs are available for transplantation, which
results in ailing patients waiting in vain for a suitable donor. According to UNOS, a non profit that
manages the nation s organ transplant system, more than 118,804 Americans are waiting for an
organ transplant as of January 2017 ( Data ). The increasing imbalance between the supply and
demand for organs, therefore opens the door to xenotransplantation as a solution. Xenografts could
serve as an unlimited supply of cells, tissues, and organs (Kleaner). Furthermore,
xenotransplantation can also be used to buy time while potential transplant patients wait for a
suitable donor. Dr. Michler, surgeon in Chief at Montefiore Medical Center, views xenotransplants
as a bridge, buying time of months until [an organ] is found (Tanne). According to Medscape, a
web resource for physicians, most patients perceive xenotransplantation as an acceptable bridge to
transplantation of human organs in life threatening situations (Samdani). Bridge transplants can
ease the current shortage of organs until researchers find a more permanent solution. It provides
patients in dire situations an opportunity to keep holding on to life. Xenotransplantation has proven
advantageous in numerous disciplines of medicine.
Nevertheless, opponents of xenotransplantation such as the Campaign for Reasonable

Who was Helen Keller?
Helen Keller was born in 1880 in Alabama. About two years later she became very ill which
resulted in blindness and deafness. Helen and the family s cook s daughter, Martha Washington,
created signs to communicate. Later, upon a suggestion from Alexander Graham Bell, the Kellers
took Helen to the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston, Massachusetts, where she met Anne

Engagement Is The Process Of Building A Relationship With...
Engagement
Engagement is the process of building a relationship with the client. Firstly, I introduced myself
and my role to the client. I told her what services my agency provides and allowed her to explain
why she was seeking our assistance. I asked her what she expected from me and what she would
like me to do for her throughout our time together. I used verbal and nonverbal cues to let her know
I was listening to her. Another purpose of engagement includes making the client feel comfortable
in my presence. After gaining some familiarity of the client, I began to assess her situation.
Assessment
Assessment is the determination of the variables influencing the client s identified problems or
issues. There are generally four steps to the assessment process including identifying your client,
assessing the client from micro, macro, and mezzo perspectives, as well as citing information about
the client and their needs, and determining the client s strengths. I become familiar with what she
does in her free time, what stressors she encounters daily, and her solutions to coping with those
stressors. During this process I use open ended questions to gather various information from the
client. I need as much pertinent information about my client as possible so that I may use the
collected data to create an efficient intervention model. An ecomap is a structural diagram of a client
s most important relationships with people, groups, and organizations. Ecomaps vary in design

The American flag represents multiple forms from innocence and purity, while many can

with Gravity s Rainbow, most of all in the concepts of gravity and sloth, and that they have to be
deliberate together in a physico analysis. For this purpose, I should analyze the certainty
metaphorical role of different concepts of gravity in Gravity s Rainbow, from the seventeenth

The Athletics Team Level Of Sport Competition Essay
West Rimrock University a small, private, liberal arts university in the United States. In the past,
the university was known for having a very large scale master s degree program as well as
offering doctoral degrees. They also were well known for their athletics department; the university
once compete at a NCAA Division Ilevel offering all of their student athletes full aid scholarships
and grants. Their most successful teams on campus were their tennis teams, winning multiple
national titles and defeating other very impressive schools. The other teams however, were
competing at high levels but not like the tennis teams. In 1972, the Educational Amendment Title
IX was passed leaving the school with some hard decisions to be made in regards to how they
spend their money. Keeping the athletics teams at Division I was going to be expensive so by
1973, all but the men and women s tennis teams were going to move to NCAA Division III, a non
scholarship level of sport competition. After the decision was made, the athletics department
suffered a huge loss of participation due to the students feeling like they weren t getting anything
out of being a part of the team without the scholarship. When Dr. Gentry Cook was hired as the
new president of the university in 1979 he made it clear from the start that he wanted to have an
equal balance of having a very strong academically focused university as well as having a
phenomenal athletics department to keep up the school spirit.

Erika Riemann’s Oral Testimony on Life in East Germany...
Erika Riemann s oral testimony on life in East Germany during the Cold War
Erika Riemann was a teenager living in East Germany at the end of World War II. Her oral
testimony describes her experiences as a political prisoner during the cold war. She was arrested in
1945 for drawing a bow on a portrait of Stalin that hung in her school classroom. At the time of her
arrest she was only 14 years old.
After World War II Germanywas left devastated and in ruins. There had been massive destruction
of the country s infrastructure (Bessel 2011), it lacked political structure and economic activity had
plummeted. There was a scarcity of food, fuel and housing and Germany was in no condition to

The arrests were indiscriminate, to the point where an internal review by the soviet authorities
showed that 35,000 people had been wrongfully arrested (Kitchen 2012). Most of these people
were released in 1948; however, there were thousands who were handed over to German
authorities in 1949 to complete their sentences. Approximately 150,000 Germans were interned
between 1945 and 1950, and the death rates in these camps have been estimated to be around 35 40
percent (Bruce 2003, p.6).
Riemann served 8 years and 16 days of her 10 year sentence as a political prisoner. Following her
arrest, she spent time in a castle dungeon at Ludwiglust for questioning. She was forced to confess
to crimes she did not commit, including being part of the Nazi resistance movement. She was then
taken to Bautzen a prison near Dresden, living conditions were awful, and inmates were locked in
cages, the quarters were full of bugs and there were no toilets. She then moved to another prison
fortress, Torgau where many women were raped. From there she was moved to the former Nazi
concentration camp at Sachenhaun just outside of Berlin, which was run by the German police. She
says that at first she had been very happy to be committed to the Germans, as she and other
inmates believed that their cases would be reviewed, and they would be released, however, she
says that what we had to endure under the Germans was worse than everything we had

Comments on the Arrangement and Structure of The Primal Place
The Primal Place is a book written by Robert Finch about his experiences, thoughts, and feelings
regarding Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The book s 241 pages are divided into 2 large Parts ;
Digging In and Going Out . Within these Parts , there are thirteen chapters. Chapters one through
six are contained in Digging In and chapters seven through thirteen are contained in Going Out .
Each chapter is divided into numerical sections to further organize Finch s thoughts. These various
divisions greatly add to the book s neat and logical structure. The book contains a preface, which

It is clear that he loves the nature and history of Cape Cod. In the preface, Finch states that Cape
Cod created within him a passion for discovery (Finch X) His style is very expressive; he utilizes
long, descriptive sentences.
Delivery:
Most aspects of the books delivery don t help it or harm it in communicating its message.
However, the front and back covers play a role in the book s message. The image depicted on the
front is a beautiful painting of the dunes and beach of Cape Cod. The fact that it is a painting
gives the viewer the sense that it is old and contains rich history. It also may entice the reader to
discover more about the beautiful location.
Personal Response Overall, I enjoyed The Primal Place by Robert Finch. It was probably the book
I enjoyed the most from our nature writing unit. I think he managed to describe nature well and
thoroughly without dragging on for too long. He also seemed less radical than Dillard, Ehlrich,
and Thoreau, which made him more relatable. Also, the topics of his writing are more varied. He
discusses the ecology and history of Cape Cod and relates them well to the present. I could see lots
of Thoreau influence in the book, mainly in the chapter structure. Both Thoreau and Finch often
begin a chapter with smaller observations and extend them to more profound

Jonas Salk did. He unlocked a new door in the medical for the next generation of doctors to find

Brazil Child Labor
We all like to wear the newest most fashionable clothes for a cheap price. What we fail to think

there have only been 1 to 2 cases of fraud which does not call for an extreme tactic of presenting
I.D laws (John,2017). The Daily show dived into how the voting I.D laws was a strategic ideal to
incorporate all these restrictions to stop the Democratic party (John,2017). By going after black

Examples Of Andy In Shawshank Redemption
An individual s personality or persona is created through a combination of events a person
would receive from society, and how the individual absorbs these events gives the bases for that
individual to develop hishers persona. In the novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank
Redemption, Stephen King uses the character Andrew Dufresne to demonstrate the influence
society has on the development of a person s persona or identity. When change of social
environment occurs to an individual, it is natural reaction for the individual to climb the social
chain, so that they may find contentment. The first time Andy talks with Red, and Andy is still
new and is faced with the drastic change in environment and the way of communication being
less formal, thus making Andy look more of a snob to other inmates at Shawshank, an Red s
thoughts Andy had a reputation for being a [snob] and a [cold fish]. (King 20). The words cold
fish and snob are used to clearly describe how the character Andy is seen by others, is used by
King to present the readers a starting point for which the character Andy can build up from and
develop a new persona. Once an individual finds their place in the new environment, society molds
the individual into a working part of the social chain. The day Andy, Red, and a couple of others
were working on the top of a roof, and Andy overheard one of the guards talking about the fortune
he had made, but complaining about the income taxes. Andy agrees with the guard, that

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson
The Future is in Your Hands.
Children grow up naturally emulating the adults around them, for most it is their mother and
father, this is natural and typically a positive thing. There are times, however, when the people
that children emulate are not the best examples society has to offer. In the play Fences Cory
looks up to his dad when it comes to sports. However, by the end of the play the reader starts to
notice that Troy is not the man to look up to. The plot in Fences by August Wilsonis centered
around an African Americanfamily that looks at the world a little differently by that I mean when
Troy was young people believed blacks shouldn t be able to do the things whites can. People
were rude and outspoken about how they felt when it came to sharing public things with blacks.
Now Troy s sons are living in a world that has evolved and is not as racist, the boys can go out
and achieve their dreams, even if they are African American it may be difficult but is still
achievable. Because of the change in the way of life there has been a conflict between the two
boys and their father. Troy may realize that things are different now, but that doesn t change the
fact that it is hard for him to let go of the past. Because Troy was unable to play baseball based on
his race, he believes Cory shouldn t be able to go on and play college football. This raises a big
question, is Troy being unfair or is he trying to look out for his son? The main theme throughout the
play Fences is

Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is an initiative companies voluntarily take part in to give
back to the local and global community. There are numerous domains of corporate social
responsibility, such as environmental conservation and sustainability, diversity and equal
employment opportunity, and volunteer service projects and charitable giving. The number of
companies embracing the practice of corporate social responsibility has increased in recent years,
as the public has formulated higher expectations that companies act responsibly. Numerous
companies have given in to this pressure and have adopted policies to show the public that they
value the different domains of CSR. However, despite this attempt to become more socially
responsible, companies may excel in some areas while they lag in others, leading to a mixture of
both positive and negative CSR within the same company. Daimler is one company that has both

The Theory Of Planned Behavior (TPB)
1.9.1 Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB)
The TPB (Ajzen, 1985; 1991) was developed following an extension of the socio psychological
Theory of Reasoned Action or TRA (Ajzen and Fishbein, 1980; Fishbein and Ajzen, 1975) as a
result of the original model s limitations in dealing with behaviours over which people have
incomplete volitional control. According to the theory, both attitude toward behaviour (Act) and
subjective norms (SN) are immediate determinants of intention to perform behaviour. The TPB
further proposes that intention to perform behaviour is the immediate cause of such behaviour. It
represents motivational components, that is, the extent to which a person will exercise conscious
effort in carrying out any intended behavioural actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Carrie Chapman Catt s Speech To Congress
Carrie Chapman Catt was an extraordinary woman and activist promoting the rights of women for
their political freedoms. Moreover, Catt s background as a principal, teacher, superintendent of
schools, and women s activist gave credibility to her being a well educated and refined woman,
providing the ethos of her claim. (History.com) For this reason, she was more than capable of
advocating for all women of our great country in the fight to allow women the right to a say in their
government by giving them the right to vote. Catt argued in her speech to Congress in 1917 that
Woman suffrage was inevitable. (qtd. in Edinmuller) Through applying ethos, presenting logos, and
most importantly emphasizing pathos lead to the success of Catt s impassioned speech to Congress.

Evolution Of Cannon Essay
The Evolution of Cannons and Ammunition In the mid 19th century, the United States of America
had erupted into a civil war. Weaponry and military tactics were evolving at a rapid pace.
Advancements in weapon systems were increasing the maximum effective range of the weapons,
thus making the standoff distance between fighting forces much greater. To remain relevant the
artillery had no other alternative, but to progress with the other tools of warfare. The days of the
smooth bore cannons for breaching fortified walls and short range combat support were concluding.
New technology and advancements to increase range and lethality were imperative to keep the

The expanding gases from the burning propellant could escape around the projectiles. Prior to mid

cannonballs did not require a fuse. Another variant of solid shot include chain shot; multiple solid
cannonballs, connected by chain, fired simultaneously to cause greater damage. Chain shot was
very effective in naval battles. Solid shot depended upon sheer kinetic force to achieve the desired
effect on the target. Hollow cannonballs or shells were be filled with gunpowder and other items

Emily Dickinson Transcendentalism
Emily Dickinson is a well known name in literature not only among connoisseurs of poetry, but
also to the novice reader. She is most commonly known for her macabre and spooky poems about
death or an experience of dying. However, the number of poems Emily wrote about nature and her
spirituality far outnumber the mysterious and eerie. During Emily s lifetime, a new way of thinking
swept across the eastern United States. Transcendentalismwas a budding philosophical idea
popularized in the late 1830 s. The core beliefs of this movement were the focus on the oneness
with the self, nature, and God. From these set beliefs, it becomes easy to see Emily Dickinsonin a
new light. No longer does she appear the dark and dreary loner that she is famous for personifying.
Conversely, she transforms into a being that was far more in tune with nature and her true self.
Emily Dickinson s poetry gives a direct reference to transcendentalism by exploring the
relationships between nature, spirituality, and the true self. Beginning in the mid 1800 s,
transcendentalism was a unique movement specific to the United States. Commonly referred to as
the American Renaissance, the movement began as a rebellion against the staunchness of Christian
life. Coupled with the idea that all humans are innately good and there is oneness in nature and
spirituality, transcendentalism clashed with the Puritan ideals that were prevalent during the era.
New England Transcendentalism originated in the area around Concord, Massachusetts, and from
1830 to 1855 represented a battle between the younger and older generations and the emergence of
a new national culture based on native materials. ( Transcendentalism ). Focused mainly on the
eastern coast, it had a profound influence on many of the times writers and thinkers. Among the
most noted authors that adhered to this up and coming philiosophy was Ralph Waldo Emmerson.
Made famous by several of his speeches and essays, Emmerson brought transcendentalism into the
consciousness of the American public. Calling for all people to look within themselves for spiritual
exploration and finding their true self contrasted drastically with Christianity, which was dominant
in the nation. Emmerson challenged

Tolstoy also explores the themes of how the female gender is portrayed through marriage in the

poet expresses his relationship with his father through waltzing which is a very formal dance.
Although waltzing is supposed to be a popular ballroom type of dancein which the dancers revolve
in perpetual circles, taking one step to each beat, imagery is (deleted material) used in this poem to
express how the poet was manhandled while waltzing with his father because his father had too
much to drink. On the other hand, in the poem Daddy the poet uses metaphors to describe her
father. Plath lets out all of her anger and hatred towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the third stanza of the poem, Roethke points out to the readers that his father was
continuously missing steps while they were waltzing. At every step you missed / my right ear
scraped a buckle. (11 12) . This demonstrates that because of the fact that his father missed steps
since he was drunk, resulted in the poet being physically hurt. This part of the poem reveals that
the father is now becoming abusive. Roethke s use of the word death in the first stanza, right
away implies that the poet was frightened by his father. In the second stanza the poet uses the
word romp which is associated with playing roughly. This also indicates that it was not very safe
for the poet to be waltzing with his father. The mother frowning also demonstrates that she does
not approve of this activity. The last stanza of the poem reaffirms that there was violence present.
Roethke states You beat time on my head / With a palm caked hard by dirt. (13 14) . The father s
hand caked hard by dirt demonstrates that the father was a hard labor worker but the use of the
word beat makes this line

Donald Trump Call To Ban Muslim Immigrants Summary
Within the past few months the American people have witnessed violence from Isis and ultimately
have fallen into a state of fear and confusion in regards to the safety of the nation. In response,
Presidential candidate Donald Trump feels he has the capability to make America great again
(Berman). In Russell Berman s article Donald Trumps Call to Ban Muslim Immigrants, he discusses
Trump s plan to address the issue: a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United
States. Because he is afraid of more attacks occurring in the United States, Trump stands up for

Carburetor Essay
FUEL INJECTION
A fuel injector is a device or technology that introduces the fuel into the combustion unit of an
internal combustion engine. It is an alternative method to carburetor. Fuel is injected into the
cylinder where combustion happen. In order to burn , fuel must be vaporized to be and make sure
the air at correct ratio . This job can be performed by either a carburetor or a fuel injection system.
If there is not enough fuel mixed with the air, the engine runs lean and either will not run or
damages the engine.

The German Refugee Analysis
Oskar s Struggle: The life of a German immigrant during World War II In the story The German
Refugee, written by Bernard Malamud, Oskar, a Jewish immigrant from Germany struggles to
learn English and cope with the depression of his past. Many German immigrants, especially
those that were Jewish, had to struggle with similar problems like Oskar s. Unfortunately, Oskar
kills himself at the end of the paper, leaving his American dream unfulfilled and succumbing to
the depression that followed him throughout the story. Oskar is a first generation Immigrant
from Germany, leaving his wife in Germany to flee from the persecution of Hitler and the Nazis.
Oskar is well educated, having been a German reporter and critic before he emigrated to the U.S
to give lectures at the Institute of Public Studies once a week. One trait that Oskar struggles with
throughout the story and unfortunately succumbs to at the end, is his depression. His depression
is mainly due to leaving his wife that he loved in Germany and attempting to learn English so
that he does not get embarrassed at the lecture. Also, we learn early on in the story that Oskar
has been struggling with depression since his arrival in America, having attempted suicide in the
first week he was here. Along with being depressed, Oskar is also very lonely, will all of his
friends and family back in Germany and his only friend in America being Martin Goldberg, his
English tutor. Oskar struggles with many of the same things that other Jewish immigrants from
Germany would have. Oskar, like many of them, is fleeing for his life because Germany at the time
was under Nazi rule and Jews across Germany were being sent to concentration camps and being
killed. Also, like many other immigrants from other countries, Oskar has a hard time learning the
English language. Immigrants like Oskar needed to learn the language in order to find their way
around the city, obtain a job, and buy things such as apartments and food. Without the language, the
immigrants are isolated just like Oskar. However, Oskar had some unique experiences unlike other
immigrants that have come to this country. Oskar lives alone, nowhere near a German community,
preventing him from getting help and

holds for the baby! After the entire name is going to be a part and parcel of the baby for the rest of
his life!
In all religions, giving a name for a baby is ritualistic .It can be naamkaran in Hinduism, or
christening or baptism in Christianity, Aqiqah in Islam, or brit milah and Shabbat in Judaism. .It is
done in front of a congregation of relations and close friends assembled in a solemn ceremony. This
ceremony basically reiterates the parentage of the baby and showers importance on the mother for
having brought a new life into the world. The ceremony invokes the blessings of the Almighty
and the elders on the baby. This ceremony is usually flexible in terms of when it is to be carried
out and is done usually in the first few weeks of the baby s birth.
Names for babies can be derived from religious mythologies, from classic and ancient languages,

rapidly altered and changed the city of Manchester during the nineteenth century. Of course there
were positive effects that stemmed from this, but negative effects due to the growth of

Wages thanks mainly to accelerated machinery and improved working conditions have largely
increased. The lavish provision of public parks, baths, and free libraries promotes the health,
happiness and culture of the industrial orders. Far seldomer than before do we hear the murmur
of popular discontent. Sickness and mortality have been reduced to an extent that is almost
incredible (doc 10 Abram s, a journalist and historian, published journal account of the
improvements to industrial Manchester.) Public health was an extremely important issue that
sparked reactions to the polluted water and air, the Corn Laws and the well being of laborers in
filthy conditions. Diseases caused or aggravated by atmospheric impurities produced by
decomposing animal and vegetable substances, by damp and filth, and close and overcrowded
dwellings, prevail among the laboring classes. The annual loss of life from filth and bad
ventilation is greater than the loss from death or wounds in modern wars (doc 6), Most workers
lack clothing, bed, furniture, fuel wholesome food, even potatoes! They spend from twelve to
fourteen hours each day shut up in low ceilinged rooms where with every breath of foul air they
absorb fibers of cotton, wool, or particles of copper, lead or iron. They live suspended between an

  • 2. Intermediate Accounting (Spiceland) Chaper 5 Cases Essay CASES Real World Case 5 1 Requirement 1 A bill and hold strategy accelerates the recognition of revenue. In this case, sales that would normally have occurred in 1998 were recorded in 1997. Assuming a positive gross profit on these sales, earnings in 1997 is inflated. Requirement 2 A customer would probably not be expected to pay for goods purchased using this bill and hold strategy until the goods were actually received. Receivables would therefore increase. Requirement 3 Sales that would normally have been recorded in 1998 were recorded in 1997. This bill and hold strategy shifted sales revenue and therefore earnings from 1998 to 1997. Usually, these remaining uncertainties can be accounted for by estimating and recording allowances for anticipated returns and bad debts, thus allowing revenue and related costs to be recognized at point of delivery. But occasionally, an abnormal degree of uncertainty causes point of delivery revenue recognition not to be appropriate. Revenue recognition after delivery sometimes is appropriate for installment sales and when a right of return exists. Judgment Case 5 3 Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average period members will continue to be members. Even though the fee is nonrefundable, it is not earned until services are provided. Since there is no contractual period of service, it must be estimated. Mega would be justified in recognizing only $3 of the initial fee immediately to offset the cost of the membership card. The payment option chosen by members does not affect the revenue recognition policy. The monthly fee should be recognized as revenue upon billing, as long as adequate provision is made for possible uncollectible amounts. Judgment Case 5 4 The revenue recognition policy is questionable. The liberal trade in policy causes gross profit to be overstated on the original sale and understated on the trade in sale. Despite that, each year, the number of patients on the waiting list continues to grow, while the number of donors and transplants remains stagnant. One solution scientists are investigating to solve this problem is xenotransplantation, a procedure which involves the transplantation, implantation, or infusion of live cells, tissues, or organs from a non primate source into a primate recipient (Samdani). This procedure has the potential to benefit thousands by providing a treatment for a wide range of debilitating diseases and aiding in the transplantation process. However, like any other surgical procedure,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only will xenotransplantation cure diseases, but will also serve as a source of organs and tissues for transplant. Worldwide, very few human organs are available for transplantation, which results in ailing patients waiting in vain for a suitable donor. According to UNOS, a non profit that manages the nation s organ transplant system, more than 118,804 Americans are waiting for an organ transplant as of January 2017 ( Data ). The increasing imbalance between the supply and demand for organs, therefore opens the door to xenotransplantation as a solution. Xenografts could serve as an unlimited supply of cells, tissues, and organs (Kleaner). Furthermore, xenotransplantation can also be used to buy time while potential transplant patients wait for a suitable donor. Dr. Michler, surgeon in Chief at Montefiore Medical Center, views xenotransplants as a bridge, buying time of months until [an organ] is found (Tanne). According to Medscape, a web resource for physicians, most patients perceive xenotransplantation as an acceptable bridge to transplantation of human organs in life threatening situations (Samdani). Bridge transplants can ease the current shortage of organs until researchers find a more permanent solution. It provides patients in dire situations an opportunity to keep holding on to life. Xenotransplantation has proven advantageous in numerous disciplines of medicine. Nevertheless, opponents of xenotransplantation such as the Campaign for Reasonable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Emily Dickinson Transcendentalism Emily Dickinson is a well known name in literature not only among connoisseurs of poetry, but also to the novice reader. She is most commonly known for her macabre and spooky poems about death or an experience of dying. However, the number of poems Emily wrote about nature and her spirituality far outnumber the mysterious and eerie. During Emily s lifetime, a new way of thinking swept across the eastern United States. Transcendentalismwas a budding philosophical idea popularized in the late 1830 s. The core beliefs of this movement were the focus on the oneness with the self, nature, and God. From these set beliefs, it becomes easy to see Emily Dickinsonin a new light. No longer does she appear the dark and dreary loner that she is famous for personifying. Conversely, she transforms into a being that was far more in tune with nature and her true self. Emily Dickinson s poetry gives a direct reference to transcendentalism by exploring the relationships between nature, spirituality, and the true self. Beginning in the mid 1800 s, transcendentalism was a unique movement specific to the United States. Commonly referred to as the American Renaissance, the movement began as a rebellion against the staunchness of Christian life. Coupled with the idea that all humans are innately good and there is oneness in nature and spirituality, transcendentalism clashed with the Puritan ideals that were prevalent during the era. New England Transcendentalism originated in the area around Concord, Massachusetts, and from 1830 to 1855 represented a battle between the younger and older generations and the emergence of a new national culture based on native materials. ( Transcendentalism ). Focused mainly on the eastern coast, it had a profound influence on many of the times writers and thinkers. Among the most noted authors that adhered to this up and coming philiosophy was Ralph Waldo Emmerson. Made famous by several of his speeches and essays, Emmerson brought transcendentalism into the consciousness of the American public.
