INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of this presentation is to establish
the fundamental elements of communication.

The scriptures are used to underpin the concepts
 explored in effective communication.
METHOD OF DELIVERY

This training session is highly interactive and is
activity based. Participation is required.
ACTIVITIES UDERSTANDING
HOW WE COMMUNICATE
Use two adjectives to describe yourself, use the first
letter of your christian name. (perception)
Right foot, right hand (what you say is not always
 what is understood)
Colour me team work (understanding each other)
Bingo is my name (get to know me)
Conflicts (or misunderstandings)
Change ( what do you think?)
Let us communicate…now we can begin
Who or what is most important?

Think of a person who is most precious and dear to you.
Without this person your life would be different and
perhaps you would not be the same today.

Then, hold the name of that person in your mind.

Identify that person by the noun/pronoun ascribed.
Discussion.
ACTIVITY 2
“Letting Go!”

Trust is at the heart of love. Love is the predominant
message in the bible. When we say we love each other,
is that synonymous with that we trust them?
Ask yourself, “ to what extent do you trust the person
to the right or left of you?” BE HONEST!
Write down the reasons why you do not trust the
person or persons.
WHAT HOLDS US BACK?
Fear…”I just can’t make friends.”
Doubts…”What if they don’t like me?”
Shame…”I know they won’t forget that time when I…”
Lack of Confidence…” I can’t lead because…”
Low self esteem…”I am not good enough”
I thought you said…”s/he always says something and
mean something else, I just don’t get it!”
Bias…I don’t like that person. S/he cannot be on my team
What does the bible say… ?
Discouragement. ‘The story of Elijah and Jezebel.’

Change. ‘Daniel and his abduction.’

Problems. ‘Job.’

Fear. ‘David, in front of Goliath.’

Failure. ‘Barnabas, chosen to replace Judas Iscariot.’
Reality Check.
Check your Attitude!
Ask yourself, be honest.

Where did you get your attitude?
What attitude cannot do for you. ‘Consider Moses
though faithful, he could not cross the river Jordan,
because of his earlier disobedience.’
What attitude can do for you. ‘Joseph’s story. From
the pit, to prison to liberty.’
How to make attitude your greatest asset. ‘ the story
of Ruth with Naomi and Boaz.’
• ACTIVITY 4

  TIME TO TAKE A STAND

Write something positive about the person or
  persons you wrote about earlier.
Affirm them. Start by saying to that
person/persons…”I like you because or I think
  you are good at…”
  Write something good about yourself!
LEARN EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Leadership requires us having effective
 communication skills.

We need to understand another’s perspective.

It is okay to be challenged, it sharpens us.

Listening and acknowledging that you understand is
 golden.
Giving and receiving, leads to mutual gain.
EPAPHRODITUS
Philippians 2:25-30
A brother.“he was a people lover.”
A fellow worker. “he worked tirelessly.”
A fellow soldier. “he took risks.”
A messenger. “ he was a servant leader. Of him
Paul said, he is minister and a messenger and he
was a pioneer. Paul said to hold men like him in
 high regard.”
***What would Paul say of you?”
COMMUNICATION
A beginning…what do you want to say, clear, concise,
appropriate audience, appropriate word choice and
 use?
A middle…channels, medium, process, which and
 when to use?
An end…was it received as intended…how do you
 evaluate feedback?
