Effective Public Health Communication in an Interconnected World: Enhancing R...The Rockefeller Foundation
The public health communication community has more tools and mechanisms at its disposal than ever before, but we are also facing increasingly complex public health challenges ushered in by globalization, urbanization, conflict, and connective technologies. We are connected in unprecedented ways, but despite this fact there remains a lack of consistent and coherent communication among responders, within health systems and across the public domain.
In light of this persistent problem, KYNE and News Deeply, supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, convened a meeting on Effective Public Health Communication in an Interconnected World: Enhancing Resilience to Health Crises, held at the Bellagio Center in Bellagio, Italy, in October 2015. At the convening, 18 experts in communication, public health, and emergency response came together to detail areas of alignment and gaps.
This report seeks to distill those lessons learned and contribute to the research base on public health communication in times of crisis, by detailing key takeaways from the convening. News Deeply also conducted interviews with participants, as well as external reviews with community organizations and leaders, to inform the body of the report. In addition, we have synthesized case studies from three participants across different regional contexts: the 2013–15 Ebola crisis in West Africa, the SARS epidemic of 2003 in Singapore, and the 2015 Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City.

Creating A Culture Of Storytelling from NTEN's 2010 Nonprofit Technology Conf...Roger Burks
We know that storytelling is the most powerful way to get your organization's message out there, heard and remembered. We know that compelling stories inspire action and change. But how do you get your organization to commit to storytelling?
In this session - a continuation of last year's Better Online Storytelling panel - we'll explore successful, specific techniques to get your organization started finding and telling its best stories. From stories to emails, blogs to social media, you can create a culture of storytelling.
From presentations to sales pitches, storytelling can help your teams in all aspects of their career, no matter what industry you are in. This PPT will show them how they can become great storytellers by choosing the most effective stories from their life or career, and presenting them in an engaging and impactful way.
Telling Your Story to Motivate Donors and Advocates for Your CauseRachel Kubicki
This presentation focuses on the importance of great story telling and also provides step by step instructions for creating your story. Included you will find examples, quotes for inspiration, and more. This is intended for board members, nonprofit executives, fundraisers and volunteers. The goal is to equip you with a strong story that attracts and motivates others to engage with your nonprofit.
You can speak with confidence. If you follow the pointers
and tips in these coming pages, I have no doubt you’ll
become an accomplished public speaker. That may sound
like a bold assertion but I’m absolutely convinced it’s true.
Everybody can learn to speak well.
Despite this, many people are scared of getting up to talk
in front of an audience. There’s even a technical term for
this: glossophobia. It’s so common that it’s believed to
affect up to 75 per cent of the population, with an
estimated 10 per cent of those at the more extreme end of
the spectrum. If you are one of the many who make up this
number, it may strike you that your glossophobia is
insurmountable. It isn’t. With the right preparation and
support, you can overcome your barriers and stumbling
blocks. In the following chapters I will help you look at
speaking in a fresh way that will dissipate much of the
anxiety and put you in control. I say ‘much’, rather than
‘all’, because some nerves are a good thing. Harnessed in
the right way, they bring the necessary energy to your
performance. They help you to focus and connect.
One of the fundamentals of successful public speaking is
to understand that, no matter how good at it you become,
it’s always the audience that is the star. They’re the focus.
Not you. Later on in this book, I’ll explain how this works
and how to use it to your advantage – because by truly
understanding this, you can boost your self-confidence and
performance. I’ll also be exploring why public speaking is
most definitely not one-way traffic. The best speeches
mirror a conversation, and actively provoke interaction and
reaction.

Edge Talk transcript from 7 October 2016NHS Horizons
The #EdgeTalks on 7 October featured Kathryn Perera (Head of Transformation, Horizons) who ran a masterclass in crafting public narrative and its role in leadership development, building capacity and strengthening our own resolve to act effectively with others to drive change.
In preparation for Fab Change Day 2016, Kathryn guided us through developing our own public narrative which can be used to support local Fab Change Day activities. What you learnt about was the power of social movements and how this has supported local and national groups to lead change. We also had the chance to hear Fab Change Day stories as well as having the opportunity to share our own stories and making connections.
To join the conversation and share your stories please post on Twitter using #edgetalks
Similar to Storytelling for Action - Unite for Sight 2011 (18)
Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.

35. Storytelling is at the heart of who we are “ Her name is Laurene. She lives in a church. She is 10 years old. “ She is among thousands of children who have taken refuge in urban Goma's gritty neighborhoods rather than risk dangers in the camps. They're being housed in churches, schools, community centers and other public buildings - but they're neither getting the food nor most of the other assistance that those in the camps are receiving. “ Mercy Corps has stepped up to fill the void and meet at least three of their most critical needs: clean water, sanitation and hygiene…but it's not easy to explain why we didn't bring food today. “ So Laurene sits quietly on a church pew, in the place she now calls home, and waits for something to eat.”
