think about jazz music, movies, and new dances, but what people don t realize, is
that the 1920 s was not always the non stop party and drinking days for everyone.
Many families and individuals faced the struggles of abject poverty and working
conditions, the fear of the Ku Klux Klan, and women wanting women s rights and

managers to respond appropriately to various levels of complex disasters. Past
focusing events, highlight the importance of communication and coordination before
and after disasters. Consequently, citizens expect emergency responders and
government agencies to be accountable for rapidly responding to disasters in an

Once upon a time a colony of penguins was living in the frozen Antarctic on an
iceberg near what we call today Cape Washington. From the first sentence of John
Kotter s bestselling book, Our Iceberg Is Melting, it is difficult to tell that one is
about to read a great fable about how to manage change in business as well as
everyday life. ! The following summary will explain the key moments of the fable
and how they relate to our lives. First, let s introduce some of the more important
penguins the Leadership Council members. Louis, the head of the Leadership
Council, could perhaps be considered the CEO of the penguincolony. Alice is a smart,
aggressive member of the council, and is Fred s loyal confidant. Buddy is a young
penguin council member who may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but brings an
element of trust among the council members. Fred is the most curious of all of the
penguins; although he was an unknown penguin in the beginning, he ultimately
plays a very important role in the change process. Jordan, also known as the
Professor, was the brains of the council; he could perhaps be considered the
researcher of the group. Although the penguins start out simply as individuals, in the
end, they are a well working team capable of effectively managing change. Fred, a
quite curious penguin, studies the wonderful iceberg that the penguins consider
home. He comes across a problem which suggests that their beloved iceberg may be
in danger of

Roman Twelve Tables
The Roman republic had set a specific set of laws that each person was suppose to
abide by. These set of laws were known as the Twelve Tables. After reading the
selections from the Twelve Tables, I gather that the Roman society was very strict
and harsh, and its conception of justice was more based on punishment than it was
on negotiating the situation and coming to a clear resolution. The Romans were
more blunt with their punishments, they saw black and white , no grey area when
making decisions in court, which means that everything was a yes or no, no one
person had the opportunity to talk about any of their crimes, it was straight to
punishment, or if they were found to be not guilty then they were not punished. In
Table IV : Rights of Head of Family, it expresses just how cruel they were, Quickly
kill... a dreadfully deformed child (Spielvogel p. 116). In my opinion, this law is
wicked because no one should be killed just because of the way that they look,
especially if they were born that way and can not help it. Before the Twelve Tables,
there were major problems and struggles. Both of the groups, patricians and
plebeians, were able to vote, but only the patricians were granted the right to be
elected to government positions. They were both able to make legal agreements and
have marriages, but it was forbidden for a patricianand a plebeian to intermarry.There
was conflict amongst Rome because everyone wanted the right to be equal, and they
were not being treated

The Colostomy Procedure
The colostomy procedure has changed the medical world in a major way because it
allowed people with intestinal issues to live a longer life. Having a colostomy
means a portion of your colon (digestive tract) was removed, which left an opening in
your abdominal area; the opening is something many refer to as an ostomy with the
stoma being the correct terminology for the actual opening of the abdominal wall.
This makes the condition more efficient to handle whereas the surgerymakes it
possible for patients to defecate again without passage through the rectum or anus.
Having this surgery does not mean you possess any type of sickness, but that you
had to alter the way your body works due to an incident that did not allow you to
carry out regular human functions. The colostomyhas made it feasible for many
people to lead normal lives even though being gone through something. We are
unsure today who invented this glorious idea, but we do know the 1st known and
successful procedure was done by Dr. M. Pilore, a French surgeon in 1776. Getting

stomach area, damage to the colon or rectum, or incomplete/complete blockage of the

Having a colostomy can be looked upon as something horrible, but it has made
thousands of lives better. Some people after the surgery may have sociological
issues though, and the best way to get over them is by having a sense of humor and
/or a positive outlook on life. Nothing but the way the digestive tract works have
changed with the surgery so patients can lead their normal lives, therefore making the

Federico Garcia Lorca s The House of Bernarda Alba and Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s
House both protest against the confinement of women of their days. Although the
Houses are set differently in Spain of 20th century and Norway of 19th century
respectively, both the plays relate in illuminating their respective female protagonists,
Adela and Nora, as they eventually develop a sense of individuality and self

Causes And Effects Of Solar Storms
A solar storm with that classification can produce long lasting radiation storms
which can damage satellites and even damage influence airline passengers that fly
near the polls. The small radiation doses produced as well by X class flares also
hold the potential to create global transmission problems and worldwide blackouts.
When solar flares are produced from the sun, radiation is emitted across the entire
electromagnetic spectrum, starting at radio waves at the long end of the spectrum to
x ray and gamma rays at the short wavelength end. The beta and gamma radiation

The Importance Of Outdoor Education
Introduction
Outdoor activities can have effects on different groups of people in several ways.
Armour and Sanford (2013) talked about how outdoor education helps with the
positive development of younger children. Whilst Cooley (2014) says how outdoor
education has positive effects on students in higher education and how group work
can be developed through outdoor education (2015)
My portfolio is going to reflect on the experience I gained from my trip to the
Priestley Centre and I will talk about how my experience from this residential can be
used in the future for different activities I may take part in. To start with I am going
to talk about group work and group dynamics by going into detail on Tuckman and
Jenson s (1977) forming, storming, norming and performing theory and the stages
of group development. I will then proceed to talk about learning styles and theories
as well as teaching styles and how these can be used within outdoor education,
talking more specifically about Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984) and Mosston s
Spectrum of Teaching Styles (1990). Moving on to talk about communication and
how this plays a huge role in outdoor activities, this will more specifically focus on
the Johari Window (1955). And then finally on leadershiptheories and how these
affect outdoor education and group work, relating this to Hersey and Blanchard s
situational leadership theory (1993).

The Decolorization Potential of Microorganisms
The decolorization potential of microorganism was assessed by examining its
ability to degrade various textile dyes. All 10 dyes monitored showed
decolorization as follows: Reactive Yellow 84 (complete decolorization in 5 h),
Reactive Green 19A (95% in 24 h) , Reactive Red 120 (complete decolorization in 6
h), Reactive Blue 160 (complete decolorization in 3 h), Reactive Red 31(complete
decolorization in 6 h), Solvent Red 24 (complete decolorization in 8 h), Basic
Green 4 (80% in 24 h), Diamond Green 4 (complete decolorization in 24 h),
Pigment Orange 31 (complete decolorization in 3 h) and RO16 (complete
decolorization in 2 h), while in sterile, cell free medium decolorization did not occur
up to 48 h of incubation suggesting the absence of abiotic decolorization. As RO16
showed complete decolorization in 2 h, this industrially important toxic azo dyewas
taken for further studies. Lysinibacillus sp. RGS could decolorize RO16 rapidly
and thus was found to be better than the bacterial consortium DAS reported by
Jadhav et al (2011). To confirm the decolorization, UV Vis spectroscopic analysis
was carried out. The absorption spectra of RO16 before and after treatment by
Lysinibacillus sp. RGS in visible range were taken. Peak responsible for absorption
maxima of parent dye (495 nm) were completely disappeared in the sample obtained
after decolorization (Fig.S1) confirming the complete removal.
