Gun Control Argumentative Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of gun control can be a challenging endeavor, as it involves
navigating through a highly contentious and emotionally charged debate. The complexity arises
from the myriad perspectives and deeply rooted beliefs held by individuals on both sides of the
issue. To construct a compelling argumentative essay, one must thoroughly research and
comprehend the historical, legal, social, and ethical aspects of gun control.
The task demands a nuanced understanding of statistical data, legislative measures, and the
constitutional underpinnings of the Second Amendment. Addressing the varying cultural
attitudes towards firearms and their impact on public safety adds another layer of intricacy.
Furthermore, exploring the psychological dimensions of gun ownership and its influence on
individual rights versus collective security requires careful consideration.
In constructing a persuasive argument, it is crucial to anticipate counterarguments and effectively
refute them, demonstrating a comprehensive grasp of the subject matter. Balancing factual
information with empathetic consideration for differing viewpoints is essential to foster a well-
rounded and convincing essay.
Additionally, the language used should be precise, avoiding inflammatory rhetoric, while still
conveying the urgency and importance of the issue. Striking this delicate balance ensures that
the essay remains intellectually rigorous and respectful of diverse opinions.
In conclusion, the difficulty in writing a comprehensive and convincing essay on the topic of
gun control lies in navigating a landscape rife with passionate opinions, legal intricacies, and
social complexities. Successfully tackling this subject requires meticulous research, analytical
prowess, and an ability to articulate a well-reasoned argument. For those seeking assistance with
similar essays or any other academic writing challenges, resources such asHelpWriting.net

The Bel Canto Opera Performance
When students study to sing Italian bel canto opera, it s better to use the work
which performed by people who is original singer to imitate and practice. However,
there are still a series of problems will happen for non Italian students when they are
study singing the opera, for example Semiramide. Bel raggio lusinghier. Even
according to the video soundtrack to imitate, the overall effect artistic and
performances is not satisfactory. The problems are pronunciation hesitation, slurred
speech, unknown the meaning of the text. All of these problems will reduce the bel
canto opera artistry.
в—ЏThe Italian VowelCharacteristics and Pronunciation of Requirements
Generally, Italian is easier to pronounce than Chinese, German, Spanish and
Portuguese. From the view of opera Semiramide. Bel raggio lusinghier, each note
corresponding to the following voice usually is a consonant plus a vowel, and most of
the letters is only one fixed pronunciation, can be represented by the corresponding
IPA. While the other letters are dependent on neighboring pronounce letter
combinations, only a few letters pronounce have some changes. In general, this piece

families to stay together while sticking to these guidelines. They also support
people to enable them to live a happy life as possible. Social workers work as part of

My Favorite Part About The Lake
Beep! Beep! We hop out of the car, set up our tent, and unpacked everything. My
family and I are in Vermont camping with our cousins and their friends. Dad and
mom are starting dinner while Rachel, Grant, Evan, and I are unpacking all of our
things. We have been coming to Emerald Lake for three years now. My cousins
have been doing it for longer. Our campsite is at the top of a mountain and on the
bottom of the mountain, there is a path that leads to a lake. My favorite part about
the lake is there is an island in the middle, and on the island there is a rope swing. I
love going off it, but it always takes me a while to get enough courage to jump off.
Almost everyone jumps off. Even the youngest children who are eight years old.

We continue to play the game.
The quiet time at the campsite is ten o clock, and it is now ten o clock. The parents
come back over and tell us we need to head back to our own campsites. My mom,
sister, and I will go and brush our teeth in the bathroom first, while the boys stay at
the campsite. In the bathroom, we see all the other girls getting ready to go to bed.
There are only two sinks in the bathroom, so we have to share the sink with
everyone. The bathroom smells like the outside mixed with a gross bathroom smell.
Once we finished brushing our teeth, we head on back to the campsite, and then the
boys go to the bathroom.
Rachel and I are sharing our own little tent by ouself, and Mom, Dad, Grant, and
Evan share a big tent. Rachel and I get changed, then try to get comfortable on top of
our mattresses. Whenever we go camping, Rachel calls the warmest and comfiest
sleeping bag, and everyone else just gets a normal sleeping bag. Inside the tent, the
temperature is not that cold, so I only wear my feet pajamas without a sweatshirt.
Rachel and I say good night and try and fall asleep. I twist, I turn, I squirm, but I do
not get comfortable. Everything was quiet until, bursts of laughter uproared from
silence. What is wrong with them!? I ask myself. Rachel, I think those people are
drunk... I tell Rachel. No ding dong, I m pretty sure that was Jacob and Jillian. Oops!

A Report On The Plane
When most people hear an airplane in the air they may look up and see just
another airplane. They don t think about how the airplane evolved. They also don
t consider any of the material it requires to achieve this most amazing feat. It s just
another aircraft carrying people or items to their destination. The journey began,
as most of us have been taught, in 1903 by the Wright brothers when they flew
their airplane for the first time. The aircraft was crudely constructed, using modern
materials for the time. Some of these materials included wood for the air frame,
muslin fabric for covers, and aluminum for the engine crank case (Smithsonian
National Air and Space Museum). In today s aircraft some of the same materials
are used especially aluminum. This case study will focus on one item used within
many small engine aircraft; a servo bracket. A servo bracket sounds like an
insignificant piece of hardware but in fact a servo bracket is a very important part
of the airplane, with a very long life cycle. The servo bracket holds the servo which
is connected directly to the airplane s control system, thus putting the bracket under
continuous tension and stress. The bracket itself is not responsible for the entire
strain of the control system, this is accomplished by using much more rigid braces,
and the braces take the brunt of the stress. The bracket s construction has to be from
material that is formable, light and semi strong. The materials must be machine
formable in order

Alexie s suspension for throwing a book at his teacher, Mr. P shows up at his
house and talks about why Alexie threw a book at him. Mr. P explains why he
forgives Alexie, When I first started teaching here, that s what we did to the rowdy
ones, you know? We beat them. That s how we were taught to teach you. We were
supposed to kill the Indian to save the child (Alexie 35). Mr. P exposes the ugly
past and how his decisions back then are stuck with him. He feels incredibly guilty
that he tried to kill the Native American in his students. This quote, also shows
how Mr. P s past is making him make the decision to explain himself to Alexie.
Another time in Hope Against Hope that demonstrates the past having a large
impact is when Mr. P talks about Alexie s future. After Mr. P explains what he
means by killing the Native American inside he begins to talk about Alexie s sister
and her hidden secret with writing. Mr. P says that it is never too late to change
your life and become who you want to be and that if he and his sister wanted to,
they could do whatever they wanted, You have to leave this reservation [...] I mean
you have to leave the rez forever (42). This quote shows that if Alexie wants to
make something out of himself, he needs to leave. Not just for a small trip or a

Essay about Drug Testing For Missouri Welfare Recipients
On 30 January 2011, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill and sent it
to the senate that would require drug testing for those receiving state Temporary
Assistance for Needy Family (TANF) funds. Funding from food stamps, medicare,
and public housing would not be affected by this bill (Keller House). According to
Columbia Tribune reporter Rudi Keller, the bill is very similar to the Arizona law
which is the only other state that testswelfare recipients. Missouri and Arizona would
use a questionare and interview which would determine which applicants to test. The
two states are also similar in their caseload of 45,017 people on assistance in Arizona
and 42,885 in Missouri. The state would not be obligated to provide treatment... Show

According to Keller s article, the law would protect children. It would discourage
parents from using drugs which would create a better home environment. It would
also ensure that state money would be used for supporting families, not
recreational drugs (Keller). Rep. John McCaherty said The bill will show the state
expects TANF recipients to be responsible with public money. (Qtd. in Keller). The
idea behind those that support this legislation is that the state is responsible for
ensureing that taxpayer s money doesn t ultimately end up buying illegal
substances and drug testing is an effective means to ensure this. As with all
political issues, there are those on the other side of the fence. People oppose this
legistlation for various reasons: from constitutionality to cost. According to a study
done by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), welfare recipients are no
more likely to use drugs. Furthermore, placing a requirement to be tested may place
a stigma upon those receiving welfare which would be counterproductive to their
relief (Drug Testing). An editorial by Henry Waters in the Columbia Daily Tribune,
the bill is the government attempting to punish a class of people who are presumed
worthless (Waters). Another reason people oppose this legislation is the cost. The
ACLU study reports the average cost of a drug test at $42 per person. There are less
invasive and cheaper methods to
The Life of Nicholas Tesla
Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Tesla) was not only an inventor; he was an engineer,
physicist, visionary, and most known for, brilliant. Tesla was born July 10th 1856,
in Smilijan, Austrian Empire, which is now modern day Croatia and moved to the
United States in 1884 to continue his career in engineering. Tesla s parents were
both Serbian, his father was an Orthodox priest, writer and poet, while his mother
was a creative and had the talent to construct things, especially her electronic every
day household items. His father wanted him to become a priest but Tesla followed
the mind set and footsteps of his mother and went above and beyond with his skills
and knowledge. Like normal high school students, Tesla studied mathematics and
physics at the University of Prague. What made Tesla stand out from other students
was his incredible mind and memory. He supposedly had an eidetic memory
(photographic memory), where he would have the ability to recall problems and
text with ease, like reading a book and replaying a scene through the mind. Not only
was his memory extraordinary, he contained the ability to perform calculus
integration in his head, as well as learning eight different languages. Tesla s brain
contained abilities out of this world that modern day technology cannot replicate.
The ideas and creations visualized in his head, stayed in his head; he formed its
mechanics and mathematical specifications without the use of a pencil and paper.

Why Was John Diefenbaker A Good Leader
Diefenbakers changes to immigration is why he should be remembered as the
Canadian Prime Minister who best defended human rights. Upon becoming the
Prime Minister of Canada, John diefenbakers intention was to unify and create
equality for all Canadians. I have one love Canada; one purpose Canada s greatness;
one aim Canadian unity from the Atlantic to the Pacific. (George par.1). Canadawas
Diefenbakers main focus, because John diefenbaker had such a great passion to see
Canada unified, this made Diefenbaker a good leader. From the moment he was
elected, Diefenbaker put the freedom, equality and rights of Canadians on the nations
agenda. Therefore Diefenbaker was a successful human rights defender because even

Diefenbaker believed that if you were Canadian, no matter your race, gender,
ethnicity or abilities, you are accredited to your rights. For this reason John
Diefenbaker was a successful human rights defender. Not only did Diefenbaker
make effective changes to the Canadian Immigration Policy, he fought for what he
believed was right as well. For instance Diefenbaker created The Canadian Bill of
Rights for the protection of fundamental human rights, he strongly opposed the
action of Japanese internment and took a stand against it. John Diefenbaker
achieved plenty more than what was previously stated. Very much so that,
Diefenbaker had a freedom award named after him, that would be awarded to
individuals or groups who have shown courage and leadership in defending rights.
Therefore, Diefenbaker was recognized as a successful prime minister who
defended human rights and we should continue to remember him like so. If this new
Immigration Policy had not been as successful as it was, Diefenbakers legacy would
not be memorable. Diefenbakers changes to immigration was for the better of
Canada. The change to a more open and inclusive Immigration Policy in 1967 has
had significant effects on shaping the social democratic fabric of Canadian society,

Dental Cost Essay
Topic: The Canadian government should cover dental costs
Thesis Statement: Dental care costs should be covered under the umbrella of
Canada s publicly funded health care system because oral health is linked to our
overall health, the current insurance scheme widens the gap between the rich and
poor, and the dire need for universal dental coverage is rather a major social and
health care issue that has to be acted upon by the Canadian government for the
Canadians. If you haven t figured out enough reasons to take good care of your mouth
, teeth and gums, the relationship between your oral health and your overall health

Dental insurance coverage is a key determinant on whether to seek care or not. The
exclusion of our mouths from the rest of our body parts and not receiving the care
it requires is quite impossible to rationalize (McClymont, 2015). Dental care is
essential in the maintenance of good oral health and in the identification of
symptoms of systemic conditions that most likely are manifested through the
mouth. As striking and conspicuous as it may sound, Canada has indeed a type of
health care system wherein mouth is excepted as a part of the body. As a matter of
fact, our lips, tongues, and throats are securely covered while our teeth and gums
are left out from the privilege. The most common infectious disease in the world
are dental diseases, and the fact that many health issues can be first diagnosed
through the oral cavity validates its importance and co relevance to the rest of our
body. Studies have linked poor oral health such as severity of gum infection to
AIDS, first stages of osteoporosis, reveal nutritional deficiencies, immune disorders,
cancer, and so on and so forth. Xerostomia or dry mouth for an instance is often a
symptom of undetected diabetes. Diabetic patients have higher risks of gum
infection caused by increased blood sugar, thickening of blood vessels resulting to
hindered healing process that is why they are obligated to undergo pre medication as

ACADEMIC FREEDOM
Freedom fighter, Nelson Mandela, once said Education is the most powerful weapon
which you can use to change the world. This statement by Mandela is a pointer to the
reason why he fought for academic freedom in South Africa before independence.
Threats from a nation s government, institutional bureaucrats and of course academics
themselves to academic freedom and to institutional autonomy of universities tend to
limit knowledge among students. The independence of the mind is a condition for
the independence of a nation (Sall, 2006).
Of course there is nothing wrong with institutions, especially universities adopting
specific policies regarding its academia. For instance, there is nothing wrong in Africa
Nazarene University having Christian related units being university common courses.
However, when institutions have policies (like it was in South Africa) to hinder
locally related literature and history, then individual learning and subsequently that of
a nation is limited. Kerr Mapanje (2003) assert that Banda s authoritarian rule that
forced an immediate and crude expropriation of Malawian nationalism inhibited the
elaboration of a more subtle discourse of academic freedom. Nonetheless, Malawi
was not unique. A popular
My Home
My home, a place where memories are born and a place of comfortability. From
being little at three years old to coming age of nine; I was told we were going to
move. My mother planned on moving for a while and was putting our house for
sale. My mother s boyfriend William wanted us to move to Miami, Florida where
his brother lived. His brother told him we could stay over his home to get a feel
for the place. I was not fond of the idea of moving as I ll be leaving behind my
friends I ve known for many years and the memories made here. The days go by as
we started moving our things to the storage facility to empty the house. We only
had a few minor necessities and our clothes to take to Miami. Looking inside our
house, there was just the plain tile floor with cracks and the brown washed walls
with line marks as the couches rubbed against them. I peered into the hallway as
the three rooms being my mom s, sister, and mine was empty from top to bottom
stripped of color and comfort. The house sat quiet, undisturbed. The emptiness of
the house made me feel bitter as I was leaving a part of me that lived here for
years.. I was awoken by my mother at dawn telling me to grab my things as we were
heading on the road to Miami. My sister came behind her holding her pillow and
blanket with her eyes hanging low as though she was squinting. We got into the truck
that had a u haul attached to it containing our belongings. I got into the back seat with
my sister stretching the blanket over

Should Textbooks Replace Textbooks Essay

Textbooks should be replaced by Online Resources We live in the era of 21st century,
and it is the time to take the step in whole world with technological advances.
Nowadays, most of the children love to use the internet for many purposes, but still
they carry heavy backpacks with lots of textbooks. There are many reason for why
textbooks should be replaced by today s latest technological tools. Textbooks have
become a burden for all students across the world. As technology advances, leaning
styles have become more technology dependent which makes the students more
accustomed to technological devices. Some schools have traditional thinking that
textbooks are the only way to go perfectly, but on the other hand online resources are
more sensible alternative. School districts should replace textbooks with online
resources in order to reduce stress for the students, save the district resources, and
endure a longer period of time than textbooks. Although online resources can be
frustrating and slow if it is overloaded with applications, they are much easier to
use for a student. Textbooks pressurize considerable weight on a student s back; as
a result, it leads to medical conditions such as scoliosis. The most important reason
for what young children have back pains is to carry heavy backpack with heavy
textbooks. As stated by Daily Herald, Kids who wear their backpacks over one

The For A Healthcare Administration Degree
There are many professions that individuals can seek with a Healthcare
Administration degree. Social workers, mental health therapist, case managers and
long term facilitators are just some of them. The expectant growth for healthcare
occupations from 2014 to 2024 is 19 percent. This is a higher growth rate than with
other occupations. With the continued reform to federal health insurance, which
makes it easier for people to access insurance and the aging population, this could add
2.3 million jobs. Depending on the professionthat someone is seeking, the
educational requirements can differ significantly. The professions on the lower
end of the pay scale require a high school diploma or equivalent to a postsecondary
non degree award. Professions on the medium range of the pay scale require an
Associate to Bachelor s degree. The higher paying professions require a Doctoral or
Professional degree to a Master s degree. The more time that someone dedicates to
their education, will move them higher on the pay scale. The personality traits that
are required include helping others, talking with others and teaching. Individuals with
these personalities will do well in jobs that need you to be dependable, be able to
handle stress well, be very flexible, have a concern for others and have integrity. The
skill set that is required include empathetic listening, giving undivided attention to the

Essay about Theological Virtue of Charity
Saint Thomas Aquinas is one of the people accredited for having brought theology
into the limelight. However, though theology existed long before the emergence of
philosophers and fathers if the church, individualistic drives such as those of Aquinas
brought a deeper understanding into the mysteries of theology. Modern day theology
would not have gotten any bearing without the impact of philosophers and scholars
who simplified the understanding of theological concepts. While it cannot be
independently verified what the motivation was behind the interest in theology, it is
clear that theology is what it is because of the input of the philosophers and scholars
(Thomas Pegis, 1997). Aquinas, being motivated into the world of theology,... Show

Aquinas sought to use the same writings and thoughts to further his agenda for
making clear his thoughts. Aristotle based his arguments on the goodness of man.
He noted that the man has to develop from within an aspect of being admired based
on the characters that are not as controversial. In essence, he meant that it is critical
for people to leave a life that is a mirror to others and other generations to come.
Aquinas borrowed this concept of the understanding of man to outline the essence of
theological value of ethics. In his arguments, Aquinas noted that for one to achieve
some level of charity from the perspective of theology, two things were critical. Faith
and hope, according to him covered a wide area in understanding or attaining some
charity and moral standards. Virtues, according to Aquinas are the driving force
towards achieving some certain telo . Human beings are ever in pursuit of happiness
and as such are always motivated to identify such things that bring about wellbeing.
To this end, Aristotle talked about Beatitudes as a means through which human
beings derive their happiness. According to Aquinas, virtues that are theological in
nature drive the human race towards the supernatural while the other virtues drive
people to achieve some specific ends. The theological values that include faith, hope
and charity drive people to God. In essence, he sought to distinguish the theological
virtues and the other virtues. The distinction was that the two

The Importance Of Driving In My Life
Anywhere but Here Have you ever wanted to get in your car and just drive until
you find somewhere to start over? I m sure this has crossed the minds of most
people. For me, the first time I got the urge was when I was around eighteen years
old. I had gotten into an argument with my parents and decided to jump in my
little blue Honda and drive off to take my mind off things. I drove down Babcock
Road, and just kept driving. Well I hadn t ever driven into the country area of Palm
Bay before, which is considered the Grant area. I was amazed with how beautiful it
was compared to the dreaded city. It was spacious and peaceful. No sounds of cars
honking and gas pumps beeping, just the trees rustling in the wind and birds
chirping. That was the moment I knew I didn t want to live in this boring, busy
town for the rest of my life. Soon after this, I realized I wasn t alone. Talking with
my friends, I realized that this was a common thought for people my age: to get
out and travel, to see the places they ve read about and even the places they haven
t. A couple of my friends told me that they ve always had this urge to leave and
travel. The one thing almost everyone had in common was they thought this town

The Pros And Cons Of Barack Obama
It s in our nature to make snap connections at the mere mention of a word or idea
mention apple, and someone might respond instantly with orange. Likewise,
mention the Democratic Party of the U.S. and most people will immediately begin
to imagine someone resembling the same spirit and character as the person they
believe to represent it a person who consistently champions for the rights of the less
advantaged (that is to say, citizens living below the poverty line and citizens who
still face discrimination in daily life) and strives for the better progress of a nation
(like raising minimum wage and increasing jobs). For me, one such person is Barack
Obama. Due to his unwavering and diplomatic nature, I believe Barack Obama
represents a true Democrat.
Unfortunately, there are some who would argue against this claim Richard Epstein,
winner of the Bradley Prize (2011) and a senior lecturer at Chicago University, states
that vision and skills are not always doled out in equal measure, and [Obama s] lack
of the latter made him unfit to choose the proper means for meeting the challenges he
set out for himself. Epstein s claims are not without merit, of course, though it would

The game begins like the old Mario Bros. for Nintendo, but with no enemies and a
sudden cliff. You re told the level s unfinished and you re asked to complete the
level for your tutorial. Silhouettes of where to place enemies and blocks are strewn
about, and you re walked through the basics, like shaking to change a unit s
function or hiding power ups in blocks. It s good for the basics, but it doesn t walk
players through the concept of good level design.

Climate Change In The Article Cold Warriors By Gregoire
The article Cold warriors, Gregoire (2008) indicates that climate change leads to
environmental issues and melting ice, and the scientists researches point out climatic
issues in Canada. The author comes up with a point that everyone is responsible for
protecting the environment because people around the world are bearing negative
effects due to climatedegradation. For example, residents in Grise Fiord and Inuit
notice a huge differences, the landscape is becoming warmer, softer and
unpredictable. Moreover, a greater risk of environmental pollution is caused by
climate change. In addition to changes in environment, shrinking glaciers, earlier ice
breakup, later freeze up and less snow caused by warmer temperature bring double

Southern Kingdom Causes
INTRODUCTION
The Southern Kingdom is said to have been exiled by the Babylonians. In this essay
one would seek to focus on tracing the causes that led to the exile of the Southern
kingdom. But before I begin, I would explain, first how the divided kingdom came
about? Second what the Southern Kingdom here means? Third what an exile is and
what led to the causes of the exile of southern kingdom? And finally the Conclusion.
First, the Divided Kingdom. From studies, the Old Testament and other sources have
it that not long after the reign of Saul, David, and Solomon the Kingdom of Israel was
divided into two kingdoms. Despite warnings from many prophets, both kingdoms
repeatedly turn from God. The Divided Kingdom, of the South and North, period
follows the continuing story of Scripture in the books of 1 Kings (chapters 11 22)
and 2 Kings. And this period is recounted in three acts: the division of the kingdom,
the resulting northern kingdom (which takes Israel ), and the resulting southern
kingdom (which takes the name Judah. ). Assyria and Babylon force the divided
kingdoms into exile. Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed.
Second, the Southern Kingdom. The Southern Kingdom (Judah) is one of the divided
kingdom after the reign of King Solomon s United Kingdom ruled by king Rehoboam
. According to J. T. Stevenson (2000), the Southern Kingdom begins with the
promise of kingship from the line of Judah, which had a long tradition, going back
all the way to the prophecy of
Essay On Carvaggio
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was born in Milan, Italy in 1571. The Italian
Baroque artist is commonly referred to as simply Caravaggio, as this was the town
in northern Italy his family moved to in 1576 to escape a plague. Realism,
naturalism, and theatrical use of chiaroscuro are characteristic of his paintings. This
dramatic shift from light to dark became known as tenebrism. He often painted
straight onto canvas with minimal preparation and created scenes that appear to be
an expansion of real space. I begin with a brief biography of Caravaggio, followed by
a purely formal analysis of SalomeReceives the Head of John the Baptist. Next I
provide the story and history behind the subjects of the painting. I conclude with
an analysis of the painting s symbolism and meaning. Caravaggio moved to Rome
in 1592 at the age of twenty one. He was not particularly popular his first few years
of working in Rome. After leaving the workshop of Cavaliere Giuseppe Cesari d
Arpino, Caravaggio painted his first masterpiece: The Cardsharps (c. 1594) and
attracted considerable attention in the art world of Rome. In 1595 Cardinal... Show

The head of John the Baptist rests on the golden platter held by Salome. Beyond
knowing this fact simply because of the title of the painting, it can be inferred it is
John the Baptist because of his unruly hair. Salome looks off to her right, ashamed of
her mother s request and disgusted with the disembodied head. She grips the platter
tightly with both hands and uses her drapery to act as a barrier between her right
hand and the gold plate, as if the thin cloth can protect her flesh from the heinous act
of John the Baptist s murder. Her left hand however, the hand closest to her mother, is
left uncovered. While the request to kill John the Baptist was not her own, by
inviting her mother into the conversation, Salome maintained a direct influence in the

Mary Pickford Research Paper
This thing we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down. This quote
from Mary Pickford explains that if you attempt to achieve something and you don
t succeed in the beginning, you just have to keep trying and you will never fail.
This quote perfectly demonstrates the life of Mary Pickford, because she
encountered many obstacles throughout her life, and never let them stop her from
achieving her goals by maintaining her focused attitude. Mary Pickford was an
important figure in 1920s American History because she stood up for actors and
actresses by fighting for higher wages, and didn t let the conflicts in her life stop her.

The thing making her different from most actresses at this time was her business
attitude and willingness to fight for what she wanted. For many years, Pickford
worked with The Famous Players Company, which was partly responsible for the
high salary of $10,000 she was earning. Eventually, she decided to become an
independent producer, teaming up with actor Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith
and creating United Artists Corporation. After quickly divorcing Owen Moore,
Pickford married Fairbanks in 1920. Pickford was now a top female silent film
star, earning more than most actors and actresses in Hollywood. Mary Pickford
reached her peak popularity by 1929, winning an Academy Award for her film
Coquette. Pickford and Fairbanks became known as the king and queen of
Hollywood This couple became the image of the American dream, known for their

By the 1930s, Mary Pickford s life had changed, and her acting career had slowed

she married actor Charles Rogers. She spent the rest of her life writing books focused

An Argument On An Ontological Argument Essay
NO THANKSGET THE APP Philosophy Essay #2 Beverly Perez Dr. Jacob Tuttle
PHIL 1880 21 // MWF3 4PM 04 December 2015 An ontological argument tries to
show that God exists by appealing only to truths of reasons, which can be known
apart from observation. This is what Anselm attempts to do. Anselm first starts by
establishing that God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined,
acknowledging that God exists in the mind. Based on this his argument can be stated
with the following premises: It is a conceptual truth that God is the greatest possible
being that can be imagined. (God exists as an idea in the mind.) A being that exists as
an idea in the mind and in reality is, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in
the mind. Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine
something greater, but we cannot imagine something that is greater than God.
Therefore, God exists. Premise number one is Anselm s conception of God. Premise
number two is a logical truth, again according to Anselm. Finally, premise number
three simply follows from the previous two premises. In short, Anselm s thinking
behind his argument is because a supreme being exists in the understanding, it must
exist in reality. He defends his argument by comparing a non existent something with
an existent something . An existent something , says Anselm, is greater than a non
existent something . If God were non existent, then we could imagine a God greater
than he, namely an
Character Analysis Of Prince Charming
I think Ella fell for Prince Charming because when she met Prince Charming he
wanted to dance with a girl like her and she fell for him. Ella was at a ball when
they met and Prince Charming stunningly said, would you like to dance with me.
Ella said, YES! Ella also, fell for the prince s handsome, dashing, and bright eyes.
Ella did not know it would turn out bad, until he asked her to marry him and she
said NO. The prince did not approve, locked her up, and his eyes looked cold and
empty now to Ella. Ella thought it was Prince Charmings business to know she did
not want to marry him. But, I still think she fell for him because she got caught up in
is charm.
How was Jed s love for Ella different than Prince Charming s love for her? Jed s love
for Ella is different from Prince Charming s love for her because... Prince
Charming s characteristics are dashing, handsome, and secretive. Jed s
characteristics are sweet, lovable, and a little rude (left Ella without saying, bye ).
Ella fell for the Prince s charm and she also, fell for Jed s kindness. On the other

encouraging, and a great leader. Ella also, had great ideas, for example: not
marrying the prince, escaping the dungeon, and staying strong (never got let
down). In my perspective Ella never let anyone stand on her and she did what she
needed to do. Ella got things done like: cleaning, hard work, and she did all that
with barely any energy. So, I think Ella took like in her own hands because she need

Chivalrous Actions in the Battle of Agincourt
Chivalrous Actions in the Battle of Agincourt
The word chivalry is often associated with knights of the medieval ages. This term
was used during the 11th and 12th century. The code of chivalry is a code of
conduct that reflected bravery and service to others. This code of conduct was
expected of the medieval knights. In his book, La Chevalerie, Leon Gautier wrote
the ten commandments of chivalry which were the following: 1. Believe the Church
s teachings and observe all the Church s directions, 2. Defend the Church, 3. Respect
and defend the weak, 4. Love your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The French army knights followed the code of chivalry as they were nearly all
knights. They fought bravely and fairly. The English army was not composed of
brave knights. On the contrary it was composed of yeomen and poor dishonorable
peasants.
The reason for the battle was because the English King Arthur V wanted to recover
his former lands and the lands that he had lost in the Hundred Years War. With a
small army at hand, the English started the battle with a siege of a Harfleur in
Normandy. The fresh did not fight the English and surrendered the gate allowing the
English the entrance. Later on, neither army wanted to start the battle due to military
strategic reasons. The English begin lacking food and other provisions and therefore
they decided to provoke the French army by loosening the first flight of arrows.
Their execution was successful and the French were indeed provoked. The French
army begin the first attack but didn t succeed at breaking the English and they
actually suffered many loses due to the English Archers. After their retreat they
decided to strike again. This time the English archers dropped their bows and began
using the weapons that the French had abandoned in the first attack. These weapons
included, axes, mallets, and swords. It is often said that the winners of the battle of
Agincourt were the English archers but in fact they did not actually use their bows to
cause the most casualties. They used more advantageous weapons in hand to hand

CHANGE, TRANSITION, AND LOSS FILM REVIEW 2
Summary
The Notebook (2004), is a deeply powerful and moving film about the undying love
between a man and woman through the telling of their story of love and loss.
Duke, a resident in a nursing home reads to a fellow resident, an old woman with
Alzheimer s, the love story of Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun. Viewers later
learn that the woman with Alzheimer s is Allie and that Duke is Noah. Prior to the
advancement of her illness, Allie had written their love story in a notebook and told
Noah to read it to her so that she would keep coming back to him . Through the
sharing of their personal experiences of love and grief along with the experiences of
other characters, viewers are able to critically reflect on their own life experiences
of love and loss and the different ways in which these experiences have allowed
change, growth, and transition in one s life.
Losses/Types of Losses Presented
One of the major types of losses presented in the film, The Notebook (2004) is that
of ambiguous loss. According to Harris (2011), ambiguous loss occurs in the
circumstance of relationships and the absence or presence of an aspect of that

Museum
Try, if you would, to recall your last visit to a museum or other similar institution. Did
you immediately accept the information presented to you as fact? Did you stop to
think about how a particular exhibit represents a culture and whether or not it was
accurate? Since their origin, museums were created for the purpose of preservation
and interpretation of the material culturethey exhibit, and have been the most widely
accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other cultures.
That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the
value of museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually
serves to devalue or misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I
have decided to focus in the collections of material culture present in the Beloit
College Logan Museumof Anthropologyand the Smithsonian Museum. First, I begin
by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of museums.
Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures
they display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt
to utilize what I have learned in order to compare the two institutions and identify the
ways in which they have taken steps to keep up with modern museological and
discourse.
To begin, preservation and interpretation, the concepts that form the basis of
museums, originates from the human inclination to acquire
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC,
was formed to help the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under
apartheid. It served many purposes including: to allow individuals to find out the
truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant amnesty from the
government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country
as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC
trials were aired nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to
voice the accounts of violence unleashed on them by the government and an
opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The reconciliation of South Africawas
achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of restoration.
The Gugulethu trial is a prime example of how forgiveness among individuals may
be possible. As seen in the courtroom screening scene of the hysterical mothers of
the victims, these trials could be very emotional for the families of the victims.
Seven young men accused of being hostile terrorists were gunned down by police
officers. The explanation for the orders for shooting the young men were because
they appeared as threats to police as they attempted to arrest the men. When Mbelo
confronts the families, the mother s of the seven men initially reject his apology.
However by the end of the confrontation, one of the victim s son tells Mbelo that he
forgives him. Christopher Mxinwa s
Violence In The Nursing Workplace
Violence in the nursing workplace is often ignored, but is a serious matter. The
nursing workplace area is a challenging field, for not everyone is able or has the
ability to treat people and take care of them to such an extended degree. Violence in
the nursing workplace is usually described by a physical or verbal assaulttowards
nurses. Controlling the violencetowards the nurses is usually complicated and is often
done by calming the patients down by talking to them or in extreme cases
tranquilizers.
Violence towards nurses can often be done by aggression or physical assault,
threatening behaviors and behavior that causes emotional or physical harm. The
violence will not stop, but it could be reduced by passing laws and more security
programs towards the nurses. Reglaments in hospitals are now used to protect the
life of nurses that are affected by patients and their families during the workplace.
In the nursing field there is no perfect way to handle violence because there will

Laws could be passed throughout the states to limit the violence towards nurses.
The biggest solutions that could be helpful could be passing laws and fines to
anyone who physically or verbally harms a nurse who is just trying to help them.
Giving patients and/or their family members tickets or an official warning to stop
their behavior could help control the situation, for nurses should not have to deal
with violence because that will only make the process for the patient longer and also
for the nurse. Violence will continue to be the nurses largest problem in their
workplace. For nurses it will always be hard to deal with patients who do not want to

A Doll s House Research Paper
A Doll s House: The Hopelessness of Marriage Having an optimistic viewpoint is
something that is extremely important in everyone s lives. Despite that, there are
certain aspects of life that simply can only be seen in a pessimistic way if they do
not fit one s expectations. Something that follows this pattern is marriage. If the
husbandand wifedo not have good chemistry, their marriage simply will end in
disaster. One instance of marriage being showcased in this grim manner can be seen
in the play A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen. Despite some hope appearing in the
relationship between Nora and Torvald Helmer, ultimately, the play paints a gloomy
picture on marriage. Ibsen expresses the theme of gender inequalities within marriage

The usage of the tarantella within the play can symbolize the controlling nature of
the husband,Torvald, in the marriage. Nora purposely dances in a way that
displeases him, in an attempt to get him to not find out about a forgery she
committed. Seeing her drastic dancing, Torvald states, No, no, that s all wrong
(204) and attempts to force her to dance in a manner he prefers. This is an example
of the tarantella being used to symbolize an inequality within their marriage. At
this point in the play, Krogstad, a disgruntled employee of Torvald s, placed a
letter blackmailing Nora within his employer s mailbox, so Nora, knowing she
has no power to control Torvald s actions, has to purposely dance the tarantella in a
ferocious way in order to distract her husband from opening his mailbox. Now, if
this marriage was founded on equality, Nora should have been given access to the
mailbox or at least, she should have been able to directly admit her past illegal
forgery for Torvald s sake, rather than resort to dancing in order to distract him. An
alternate meaning for the symbol of the tarantella can be the sexual expectations
and objectifying of women within the marriage, as while attempting to have
sexual intercourse with Nora, Torvald states, I see you still have the tarantella in
your blood it makes you more enchanting than ever (215). Torvald also goes on to

Cellulosic Ethanol Cons
It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in
today s energy production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be
derived from natural, renewable resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter,
even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012). It s now become evident to
those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to
sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have
included exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of
these three, the most promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose.

The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that
they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would
lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other
countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil
supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In
addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars
on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change.
Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations.
Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With
more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources)
and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other
expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions
compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and
lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low
costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized
to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By
using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries
will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would
have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian,
Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations,
meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of
Analysis Of James Baldwin s Blues For Mister Charlie
James Baldwin in his play Blues for Mister Charlie describes the racial hatred
between the white town and the black town. The play concerns with Richard, a
black man who returns to the South with a gun to recover from drug addiction and
start a new life. Richard carries a gun with him as he returns, but he passes the gun
to his father voluntarily. At the end, Richard was killed by a white man named Lyle
for his provocative behavior. Why is Richard carrying a gun and why did he gives it
to Meridian? Richard is afraid of being exposed as weak and vulnerable because it
will compromise his felt sense of masculinity; therefore, he carries a gun to make his
appearance as a strong man who would never bow down to oppression. Richard was

Unfortunately, he continues to experience discrimination which weakened his
masculinity. Self blame and low self esteem caused his drug addiction. He uses
drugs to mask his vulnerability, and he carries a gun to prove his masculinity.
After struggling in the North, Richard moved back to the Southern town of his
birth to recover from the addiction. He was aware of the racial violence caused by
the Jim Crow Laws. Richard was afraid to end up like his mother, so he carried a
gun with him as he goes back to the South for protection. When his grandmother
found out that he has had the gun for a long time, Richard insists in keeping the
gun and he commanded her not to tell his father, Meridian of the gun. However,
after the interactions with Juanita and Lyle, Richard gives the gun to his father
voluntarily. What causes Richard to change his mind and give the gun to his
father? Given Richard s provocative behavior toward Lyle, one might suggests that
Richard pass the gun to Meridian because he wants to be defenseless. He offends
Lyle hoping that he will retaliates and eventually ends his life. But why would he
want to die? Perhaps because he fails to pursue his dream to become a blues singer
in the place where African American can succeed. In addition, his drug addiction had
made his life a mess and Richard choose to be defenseless just to end the suffering of
discrimination. Instead of passing the gun to people
The Element That Changed The World
The Element That Changed the World
In world history an event with the span of only two days seems insignificant in
comparison to the other 4.5 billion years, but it is hard to imagine a life without
these days being deemed insignificant. Thirty years ago an explosion directly
changed the lives of over 135,000 people and indirectly affected the rest of the
world. The effects of Chernobyl have been powerful throughout the past three
decades, and have influenced different aspects of our political society as well as
social reforms in the Soviet Union. Not only did the explosion bring awareness to
environmental concerns, but it also altered the course of the everyday citizens under
the control of the USSR. Chernobyl had some disastrous and ... Show more content

Throughout the time of nuclear power, scientist have been debating whether or not it
was worth the risk for nuclear power. Most people agree that [it has] the capacity to
turn the earth into a desert or make the desert bloom (4). Nuclear power is ideal in
terms that it is efficient and cost effective, but it also has some downfalls. The
process creates a lot of nuclear waste that is highly radioactive without a good place
of disposing it, not to mention the inherently dangerous risks involved with nuclear
power plants, such as explosions.
The power plant at Chernobyl had 4 RBMK 1000 pressurized reactors that were
cooled by water, and fueled by splitting uranium atoms. These reactors used graphite
blocks that act as moderators to slow down and control the output of neutrons
released during nuclear fission. Since nuclear fission and fusion produce a lot of
thermal energy, water is used to cool the reactor s core. The now boiling water creates
steam which is tunneled through two steam powered turbines to produce near 1,000
megawatts of electricity.
The cooling systems of the reactors are extremely important to the stability of the
complex. If the cooling system were to malfunction, there are series of back up
cooling systems to prevent a meltdown caused by the high intensity heat produced by
the uranium. If there were no cooling system at all, the graphite would turn into a
radioactive molten core that would risk seeping in the ground soil, and

more knowledgeable on my comprehension of text complexity and its relationship to
producing reading measures for our students. In the video, text complexity was
broken up into three parts. The parts were as follows; qualitative, quantitative, and

such as think quality, think human connotation. Quantitative is determined the aspect
of the text, such as word length and frequency. In addition, it is evaluated by

The Effects Of Colonialism And Western Powers On Africa
Africa has a complex history that has contributed to its current state, that to some
seems hopeless and for others an opportunity for rebuilding and renewal in the
continent. With the influences of colonialism and western powers the complete
system of African cultures have been restructured and globalized. This has had
negative and positive effects on the people of Africa, its economy and government.
After colonialism, relationships between states have still remained and Western
powers are a dominate force in the direction of their economy. Alongside this, there
are many other influences that are internal and not external that is contributing to the
issues within Africa. One of the main problems that we see is corruption in the
government and leadership. This is one of the most serious issues within Africa,
which could possibly be the root of a myriad of afflictions that face the people.
However, there are those who are trying to combat the corruption and bring renewal
to the countries within this immense continent. These are the people who are aware
of the taxing history and the current transition to independence that many countries
are trying to figure out. Moreover, the government is a vital part of society and sets
the tone for what will be accomplished within a country as a whole. Due to
corruption in this vital area, much of Africa has faced economic hardships that leave
many people without food security, basic sanitary needs and other systemic problems.

Essay about Hair Dying
Hair Dying
As people look around the different cities of our fair country, one might notice that
many people nowadays are coloring their hair to cover grey or just for the fun of it.
One difference among the younger generation and the older generation is the colors
that are chosen for their hair. The younger generation of this day and age seem to
prefer wild colors such as Infra Red, Mystic Heather, Deadly Nightshade, Tiger Lily,
etc, as self expression compared to the older generation choosing natural shades to
cover the signs of aging. This can be seen in the rising number of young people that
are seen around with these types of wild colors. Not all young people choose the
wild colors over natural shades because some choose the ... Show more content on

The website states that these celebrities use the hair colors often. This site is
evidence that the trend of dying one s hair a wild shade exists in the United States.
Other companies are also taking part in the wild hair color business so as to keep up
with the current competition. Companies such as BWild, Hot Head, and even Jerome
Russell are participating in the trend of wild hair color to accommodate both the
younger and the older population.
On the other hand, classic companies such as Clairol, Dark Lovely and L Oreal still
offer the majority of the natural hair colors that one can buy in a store such as Wal
Mart. These companies can have a productive future as long as they are able to
keep up with all other forms of competition. As to my current knowledge, none of
these companies offer outrageous colors such as Pillarbox Red, or AfterMidnight.
Sticking to the traditional colors is not a bad thing because there is still a business
in natural hair colors. People still like to color their hair so it looks like the color
they used to have or a lighter or darker shade of the color they presently have. The
largest group to purchase hair color products in the older generation is women. They
might do this because they see grey coming in or are trying a new look out.
CNN.com knew that hair coloring was a big trend as early as 1996. (Klensch, 1996).
They predicted that the trend would continue on into 1997 but it

Two migrant workers, George and Lennie, have been let off of a bus a ways away
from the California ranch where they are due to start work. George is a small, dark
man with sharp, strong features. Lennie, his companion, is his opposite, a massive
man with a shapeless face. To slake their thirst, the two stop in a clearing by a pool
and decide to stay for the night. As the two talk, it becomes clear that Lennie is
deeply devoted to George and reliant upon him for protection and guidance. George

Core The core layer is the backbone layer of the network running at high speed
switching, transferring large amounts of data and also handling the requests of the
distribution layer . This layer has high speed devices; the most implementations have
layer 3 switches or high end routers. Its key characteristics are: redundancy, fast
transport of large amounts of data, high reliability and availability, low latency. The
core layer should not do any packet manipulation.
The distribution layer acts as a services and control border between the access and
core layers. This layer is the place where routing and packet manipulation, policy
enforcement, access control are performed. The distribution also has high redundant
connectivity, both toward the access layer and also the core layer. In this section,

Continental Drift Alfred Wegener, has scientists all over the world wracking their
brains. Some say he s crazy and most don t believe him. But what if he s right?
GEOLOGIC ASSOCIATION, FRANKFURT Wegener has startled scientists with his
discovery of Pangaea. According to him, he believes that all the continents were once
joined together as one land mass. Then apparently, it started to drift apart as years
went on.
If we are to believe this hypothesis, we must forget everything we have learned in
the last 70 years and start all over again, said an American scientist. We re all scared
that he s true and some much braver. Surprisingly, determined Wegener has proof of
Pangaea.

The areas on the continents where they were all once connected to Antarctica have
evidence of debris from glaciers. Wegener had noted that the fossils he found on
certain sections of the earth did not match it s climate. Furthermore, there is evidence
of glacier scratches or scarring in South Africa.
When asked how he came up with such a remarkable theory. He replied and said
that he wrote a letter to his future wife saying Doesn t the east coast of South
America fit exactly against the west coast of Africa, as if they had once been
joined? This is an idea I ll have to pursue. Shortly after this he came across scientific
sheets promoting this theory that said they were once connected by a continent sized
land bridge that had since sunk into the sea. Fascinated by this he had done more
research himself and came up with the theory of Continental Drift.
Climatologist Wladimir Koppen said, if it turns out that sense and meaning are now
becoming evident in the whole history of the Earth s development, why should we
hesitate to toss the old views overboard? So now that you ve been informed of
Wegener s theory, you can choose to believe it or not. But like Koppen said, Why

The Olympics began in ancient Olympia Greece, which lies 10km east of Pirgos,
in a valley between Mt. Kronos, the Alfios river, and the Kladeos. This area was
inhabited by the Pisans, whose King was Oinomaus. His daughter Hippodameia had
married Pelops, and it has been said that the first games were held in their honor
around 1000 B.C. Through the years the games began to attract interest in nearby
towns. In 776 B.C. , the leader of the Eleians, Iphitos, rededicated the games to the
honor of Zeus, (the most important god in the ancient Greek pantheon). As a result
of the religious nature of the games, all wars would cease during the contests. The

The pentathlon was said to be invented by Jason, who combined the five events and
awarded the first prize to a friend, Peleus, who placed second in everything except for
wrestling, which he placed first. The pentathlon was a combination of light events:
jumping, running, javelin and heavy events: discus and wrestling. While it remains
unknown how the decision of the winner was made, it is believed that the last two
winners confronted each other in wrestling, with the winner declared pentathlon
victor. Speed, strength, skill, and endurance are all qualities necessary to participate
in the pentathlon. A quote from Aristotle, The pentathletes are the best, because they
are naturally endowed with both strength and speed (Foundation of the Hellenic
World [FHW], 1). Boxing, added in 688 B.C., was first mentioned in Homeric poems,
and was held in honor of Patroclus. It is said that Apollo, who defeated and killed
Phorbus, was the inventor of the boxing event. The ancient boxing differed in many
ways from the modern boxing that we are used to. While having no time limit to the
fight, opponents fought until one raised his hand in defeat, or fell knocked out or
dead. An effective tactic of ancient boxing was positioning your opponent to face the
sun, blinding him with the glare. When a match would stalemate, the contestants had
the option of klimax, which meant both men stood still and allowed his opponent a
blow without making an attempt to avoid it. For

Unfortunately, before the tour they had to let go of the original bassist, Brent Wilson.
When the tour finally ended, Panic was finally able to return to Las Vegas, their
home. To their delight, it was announced that Panic would record from the Palms
Casino Resort, in Las Vegas. In January 2008, a cover for their new album was
released, but to long time fans confusion, the exclamation mark was removed from
the band name. The album entitled Pretty. Odd. was dropped on March 21st,
2008. On the first day of release, the album sold a smashing total of 54,000 times,
the first week sales were over 139,000. The record hit No. 2 on the US Billboard
200 . I think it s the most fun and the happiest we ve since we started , Ross stated.
Over a year after the overwhelming success of Pretty. Odd., the news swept like
wildfire that Jon Walker (the replacement for Brent Wilson) and original band
member Ryan Ross had left the group. Ryan and Jon felt they needed to take some
time to themselves. On February 1st, 2011, Panic released the first track on their
third studio album, The Ballad Of Mona Lisa , and their first song without Ross and
Walker, but introduced Ian Crawford and Dallon Weekes. On March 22nd, 2011, the
album named Vices Virtues was officially released, thus returning the exclamation in
Panic! at the Disco.

The first five hours starts with the INTASC Standards 10. The INTASTC Standard 10 states that the teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. The Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium is an association of state educationagencies and national educational organizations dedicated to the improvement of the preparation, licensing, and on going professional development of educators. An effective educator must be able to mix content knowledge with the specific assets and desires of students to guarantee that all students absorb and achieve at high levels. We were assigned to interview a counselor, social worker, school psychologist, school nurse, or special education teacher regarding their experiences in working with at risk child and youth. I chose to interview a social worker because a social worker job is to shield vulnerable people, develop relationships and where possible help families to stay together while sticking to these guidelines. They also support people to enable them to live a happy life as possible. Social workers work as part of multi disciplinary teams with other professions such as
  • 4. My Favorite Part About The Lake Beep! Beep! We hop out of the car, set up our tent, and unpacked everything. My family and I are in Vermont camping with our cousins and their friends. Dad and mom are starting dinner while Rachel, Grant, Evan, and I are unpacking all of our things. We have been coming to Emerald Lake for three years now. My cousins have been doing it for longer. Our campsite is at the top of a mountain and on the bottom of the mountain, there is a path that leads to a lake. My favorite part about the lake is there is an island in the middle, and on the island there is a rope swing. I love going off it, but it always takes me a while to get enough courage to jump off. Almost everyone jumps off. Even the youngest children who are eight years old. Mom calls... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We continue to play the game. The quiet time at the campsite is ten o clock, and it is now ten o clock. The parents come back over and tell us we need to head back to our own campsites. My mom, sister, and I will go and brush our teeth in the bathroom first, while the boys stay at the campsite. In the bathroom, we see all the other girls getting ready to go to bed. There are only two sinks in the bathroom, so we have to share the sink with everyone. The bathroom smells like the outside mixed with a gross bathroom smell. Once we finished brushing our teeth, we head on back to the campsite, and then the boys go to the bathroom. Rachel and I are sharing our own little tent by ouself, and Mom, Dad, Grant, and Evan share a big tent. Rachel and I get changed, then try to get comfortable on top of our mattresses. Whenever we go camping, Rachel calls the warmest and comfiest sleeping bag, and everyone else just gets a normal sleeping bag. Inside the tent, the temperature is not that cold, so I only wear my feet pajamas without a sweatshirt. Rachel and I say good night and try and fall asleep. I twist, I turn, I squirm, but I do not get comfortable. Everything was quiet until, bursts of laughter uproared from silence. What is wrong with them!? I ask myself. Rachel, I think those people are drunk... I tell Rachel. No ding dong, I m pretty sure that was Jacob and Jillian. Oops! Jacob and Jillian are Uncle Rob s friends who came with us.I felt my face
  • 5. A Report On The Plane When most people hear an airplane in the air they may look up and see just another airplane. They don t think about how the airplane evolved. They also don t consider any of the material it requires to achieve this most amazing feat. It s just another aircraft carrying people or items to their destination. The journey began, as most of us have been taught, in 1903 by the Wright brothers when they flew their airplane for the first time. The aircraft was crudely constructed, using modern materials for the time. Some of these materials included wood for the air frame, muslin fabric for covers, and aluminum for the engine crank case (Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum). In today s aircraft some of the same materials are used especially aluminum. This case study will focus on one item used within many small engine aircraft; a servo bracket. A servo bracket sounds like an insignificant piece of hardware but in fact a servo bracket is a very important part of the airplane, with a very long life cycle. The servo bracket holds the servo which is connected directly to the airplane s control system, thus putting the bracket under continuous tension and stress. The bracket itself is not responsible for the entire strain of the control system, this is accomplished by using much more rigid braces, and the braces take the brunt of the stress. The bracket s construction has to be from material that is formable, light and semi strong. The materials must be machine formable in order

Little War On The Prairie Analysis The past can affect one s decisions in the future, Little War on the Prairie explains how Minnesota s actions impact Minnesota residents everyday, Hope Against Hope describes how family history can control one s decisions, and Smoke Signals demonstrates how one action changes everything In Little War on the Prairie , the podcast describes how Minnesotans, at the time, drove Native Americans out of the state and now, most Minnesotans choose to ignore the subject. Tim Tyson describes how ignoring the state s history is destroying our state s identity, [T]here s a delusion at work about who we were. And that s why we have a hard time about who we are. After one week of Sherman Alexie s suspension for throwing a book at his teacher, Mr. P shows up at his house and talks about why Alexie threw a book at him. Mr. P explains why he forgives Alexie, When I first started teaching here, that s what we did to the rowdy ones, you know? We beat them. That s how we were taught to teach you. We were supposed to kill the Indian to save the child (Alexie 35). Mr. P exposes the ugly past and how his decisions back then are stuck with him. He feels incredibly guilty that he tried to kill the Native American in his students. This quote, also shows how Mr. P s past is making him make the decision to explain himself to Alexie. Another time in Hope Against Hope that demonstrates the past having a large impact is when Mr. P talks about Alexie s future. After Mr. P explains what he means by killing the Native American inside he begins to talk about Alexie s sister and her hidden secret with writing. Mr. P says that it is never too late to change your life and become who you want to be and that if he and his sister wanted to, they could do whatever they wanted, You have to leave this reservation [...] I mean you have to leave the rez forever (42). This quote shows that if Alexie wants to make something out of himself, he needs to leave. Not just for a small trip or a vacation, but for
  • 7. Essay about Drug Testing For Missouri Welfare Recipients On 30 January 2011, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill and sent it to the senate that would require drug testing for those receiving state Temporary Assistance for Needy Family (TANF) funds. Funding from food stamps, medicare, and public housing would not be affected by this bill (Keller House). According to Columbia Tribune reporter Rudi Keller, the bill is very similar to the Arizona law which is the only other state that testswelfare recipients. Missouri and Arizona would use a questionare and interview which would determine which applicants to test. The two states are also similar in their caseload of 45,017 people on assistance in Arizona and 42,885 in Missouri. The state would not be obligated to provide treatment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Keller s article, the law would protect children. It would discourage parents from using drugs which would create a better home environment. It would also ensure that state money would be used for supporting families, not recreational drugs (Keller). Rep. John McCaherty said The bill will show the state expects TANF recipients to be responsible with public money. (Qtd. in Keller). The idea behind those that support this legislation is that the state is responsible for ensureing that taxpayer s money doesn t ultimately end up buying illegal substances and drug testing is an effective means to ensure this. As with all political issues, there are those on the other side of the fence. People oppose this legistlation for various reasons: from constitutionality to cost. According to a study done by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), welfare recipients are no more likely to use drugs. Furthermore, placing a requirement to be tested may place a stigma upon those receiving welfare which would be counterproductive to their relief (Drug Testing). An editorial by Henry Waters in the Columbia Daily Tribune, the bill is the government attempting to punish a class of people who are presumed worthless (Waters). Another reason people oppose this legislation is the cost. The ACLU study reports the average cost of a drug test at $42 per person. There are less invasive and cheaper methods to
  • 8. The Life of Nicholas Tesla Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Tesla) was not only an inventor; he was an engineer, physicist, visionary, and most known for, brilliant. Tesla was born July 10th 1856, in Smilijan, Austrian Empire, which is now modern day Croatia and moved to the United States in 1884 to continue his career in engineering. Tesla s parents were both Serbian, his father was an Orthodox priest, writer and poet, while his mother was a creative and had the talent to construct things, especially her electronic every day household items. His father wanted him to become a priest but Tesla followed the mind set and footsteps of his mother and went above and beyond with his skills and knowledge. Like normal high school students, Tesla studied mathematics and physics at the University of Prague. What made Tesla stand out from other students was his incredible mind and memory. He supposedly had an eidetic memory (photographic memory), where he would have the ability to recall problems and text with ease, like reading a book and replaying a scene through the mind. Not only was his memory extraordinary, he contained the ability to perform calculus integration in his head, as well as learning eight different languages. Tesla s brain contained abilities out of this world that modern day technology cannot replicate. The ideas and creations visualized in his head, stayed in his head; he formed its mechanics and mathematical specifications without the use of a pencil and paper. One of the creations pulled off by
  • 9. Why Was John Diefenbaker A Good Leader Diefenbakers changes to immigration is why he should be remembered as the Canadian Prime Minister who best defended human rights. Upon becoming the Prime Minister of Canada, John diefenbakers intention was to unify and create equality for all Canadians. I have one love Canada; one purpose Canada s greatness; one aim Canadian unity from the Atlantic to the Pacific. (George par.1). Canadawas Diefenbakers main focus, because John diefenbaker had such a great passion to see Canada unified, this made Diefenbaker a good leader. From the moment he was elected, Diefenbaker put the freedom, equality and rights of Canadians on the nations agenda. Therefore Diefenbaker was a successful human rights defender because even though he faced many obstacles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diefenbaker believed that if you were Canadian, no matter your race, gender, ethnicity or abilities, you are accredited to your rights. For this reason John Diefenbaker was a successful human rights defender. Not only did Diefenbaker make effective changes to the Canadian Immigration Policy, he fought for what he believed was right as well. For instance Diefenbaker created The Canadian Bill of Rights for the protection of fundamental human rights, he strongly opposed the action of Japanese internment and took a stand against it. John Diefenbaker achieved plenty more than what was previously stated. Very much so that, Diefenbaker had a freedom award named after him, that would be awarded to individuals or groups who have shown courage and leadership in defending rights. Therefore, Diefenbaker was recognized as a successful prime minister who defended human rights and we should continue to remember him like so. If this new Immigration Policy had not been as successful as it was, Diefenbakers legacy would not be memorable. Diefenbakers changes to immigration was for the better of Canada. The change to a more open and inclusive Immigration Policy in 1967 has had significant effects on shaping the social democratic fabric of Canadian society, (Simmons
  • 10. Dental Cost Essay Topic: The Canadian government should cover dental costs Thesis Statement: Dental care costs should be covered under the umbrella of Canada s publicly funded health care system because oral health is linked to our overall health, the current insurance scheme widens the gap between the rich and poor, and the dire need for universal dental coverage is rather a major social and health care issue that has to be acted upon by the Canadian government for the Canadians. If you haven t figured out enough reasons to take good care of your mouth , teeth and gums, the relationship between your oral health and your overall health provides even more, because choosing to practice a good oral hygiene equates to making an investment in your overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dental insurance coverage is a key determinant on whether to seek care or not. The exclusion of our mouths from the rest of our body parts and not receiving the care it requires is quite impossible to rationalize (McClymont, 2015). Dental care is essential in the maintenance of good oral health and in the identification of symptoms of systemic conditions that most likely are manifested through the mouth. As striking and conspicuous as it may sound, Canada has indeed a type of health care system wherein mouth is excepted as a part of the body. As a matter of fact, our lips, tongues, and throats are securely covered while our teeth and gums are left out from the privilege. The most common infectious disease in the world are dental diseases, and the fact that many health issues can be first diagnosed through the oral cavity validates its importance and co relevance to the rest of our body. Studies have linked poor oral health such as severity of gum infection to AIDS, first stages of osteoporosis, reveal nutritional deficiencies, immune disorders, cancer, and so on and so forth. Xerostomia or dry mouth for an instance is often a symptom of undetected diabetes. Diabetic patients have higher risks of gum infection caused by increased blood sugar, thickening of blood vessels resulting to hindered healing process that is why they are obligated to undergo pre medication as a form

Academic Freedom For A Bachelor s Degree Computer Science Chiwar, William Suleman Admission No. ******** Term Paper (UCC *****) Academic Freedom In Partial Fulfillment for a Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science Africa Nazarene University, Nairobi For Mrs. Muchai February 16, 2015 ACADEMIC FREEDOM Freedom fighter, Nelson Mandela, once said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. This statement by Mandela is a pointer to the reason why he fought for academic freedom in South Africa before independence. Threats from a nation s government, institutional bureaucrats and of course academics themselves to academic freedom and to institutional autonomy of universities tend to limit knowledge among students. The independence of the mind is a condition for the independence of a nation (Sall, 2006). Of course there is nothing wrong with institutions, especially universities adopting specific policies regarding its academia. For instance, there is nothing wrong in Africa Nazarene University having Christian related units being university common courses. However, when institutions have policies (like it was in South Africa) to hinder locally related literature and history, then individual learning and subsequently that of a nation is limited. Kerr Mapanje (2003) assert that Banda s authoritarian rule that forced an immediate and crude expropriation of Malawian nationalism inhibited the elaboration of a more subtle discourse of academic freedom. Nonetheless, Malawi was not unique. A popular

His brother told him we could stay over his home to get a feel for the place. I was not fond of the idea of moving as I ll be leaving behind my friends I ve known for many years and the memories made here. The days go by as we started moving our things to the storage facility to empty the house. We only had a few minor necessities and our clothes to take to Miami. Looking inside our house, there was just the plain tile floor with cracks and the brown washed walls with line marks as the couches rubbed against them. I peered into the hallway as the three rooms being my mom s, sister, and mine was empty from top to bottom stripped of color and comfort. The house sat quiet, undisturbed. The emptiness of the house made me feel bitter as I was leaving a part of me that lived here for years.. Nowadays, most of the children love to use the internet for many purposes, but still they carry heavy backpacks with lots of textbooks. There are many reason for why textbooks should be replaced by today s latest technological tools. Textbooks have become a burden for all students across the world. As technology advances, leaning styles have become more technology dependent which makes the students more accustomed to technological devices. Some schools have traditional thinking that textbooks are the only way to go perfectly, but on the other hand online resources are more sensible alternative. School districts should replace textbooks with online resources in order to reduce stress for the students, save the district resources, and endure a longer period of time than textbooks. Although online resources can be frustrating and slow if it is overloaded with applications, they are much easier to use for a student. However, though theology existed long before the emergence of philosophers and fathers if the church, individualistic drives such as those of Aquinas brought a deeper understanding into the mysteries of theology. Modern day theology would not have gotten any bearing without the impact of philosophers and scholars who simplified the understanding of theological concepts. While it cannot be independently verified what the motivation was behind the interest in theology, it is clear that theology is what it is because of the input of the philosophers and scholars (Thomas Pegis, 1997). He noted that the man has to develop from within an aspect of being admired based on the characters that are not as controversial. In essence, he meant that it is critical for people to leave a life that is a mirror to others and other generations to come. Aquinas borrowed this concept of the understanding of man to outline the essence of theological value of ethics. In his arguments, Aquinas noted that for one to achieve some level of charity from the perspective of theology, two things were critical. Faith and hope, according to him covered a wide area in understanding or attaining some charity and moral standards. I m sure this has crossed the minds of most people. For me, the first time I got the urge was when I was around eighteen years old. In this essay one would seek to focus on tracing the causes that led to the exile of the Southern kingdom. But before I begin, I would explain, first how the divided kingdom came about? Second what the Southern Kingdom here means? Third what an exile is and what led to the causes of the exile of southern kingdom? And finally the Conclusion. First, the Divided Kingdom. From studies, the Old Testament and other sources have it that not long after the reign of Saul, David, and Solomon the Kingdom of Israel was divided into two kingdoms. Despite warnings from many prophets, both kingdoms repeatedly turn from God. The Divided Kingdom, of the South and North, period follows the continuing story of Scripture in the books of 1 Kings (chapters 11 22) and 2 Kings. And this period is recounted in three acts: the division of the kingdom, the resulting northern kingdom (which takes Israel ), and the resulting southern kingdom (which takes the name Judah. ). Assyria and Babylon force the divided kingdoms into exile. Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed. Second, the Southern Kingdom. The Southern Kingdom (Judah) is one of the divided kingdom after the reign of King Solomon s United Kingdom ruled by king Rehoboam . According to J. T. Stevenson (2000), the Southern Kingdom begins with the promise of kingship from the line of Judah, which had a long tradition, going back all the way to the prophecy of

The Italian Baroque artist is commonly referred to as simply Caravaggio, as this was the town in northern Italy his family moved to in 1576 to escape a plague. Realism, naturalism, and theatrical use of chiaroscuro are characteristic of his paintings. This dramatic shift from light to dark became known as tenebrism. An Argument On An Ontological Argument Essay NO THANKSGET THE APP Philosophy Essay #2 Beverly Perez Dr. Jacob Tuttle PHIL 1880 21 // MWF3 4PM 04 December 2015 An ontological argument tries to show that God exists by appealing only to truths of reasons, which can be known apart from observation. This is what Anselm attempts to do. Anselm first starts by establishing that God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined, acknowledging that God exists in the mind. Based on this his argument can be stated with the following premises: It is a conceptual truth that God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined. (God exists as an idea in the mind.) A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something greater, but we cannot imagine something that is greater than God. Therefore, God exists. Premise number one is Anselm s conception of God. Premise number two is a logical truth, again according to Anselm. Finally, premise number three simply follows from the previous two premises. In short, Anselm s thinking behind his argument is because a supreme being exists in the understanding, it must exist in reality. He defends his argument by comparing a non existent something with an existent something . An existent something , says Anselm, is greater than a non existent something . If God were non existent, then we could imagine a God greater than he, namely an

They fought bravely and fairly. The English army was not composed of brave knights. On the contrary it was composed of yeomen and poor dishonorable peasants. The reason for the battle was because the English King Arthur V wanted to recover his former lands and the lands that he had lost in the Hundred Years War. With a small army at hand, the English started the battle with a siege of a Harfleur in Normandy. The fresh did not fight the English and surrendered the gate allowing the English the entrance. Later on, neither army wanted to start the battle due to military strategic reasons. The English begin lacking food and other provisions and therefore they decided to provoke the French army by loosening the first flight of arrows. Their execution was successful and the French were indeed provoked. The French army begin the first attack but didn t succeed at breaking the English and they actually suffered many loses due to the English Archers. After their retreat they decided to strike again. Since their origin, museums were created for the purpose of preservation and interpretation of the material culturethey exhibit, and have been the most widely accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other cultures. That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the value of museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually serves to devalue or misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I have decided to focus in the collections of material culture present in the Beloit College Logan Museumof Anthropologyand the Smithsonian Museum. First, I begin by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of museums. Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures they display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt to utilize what I have learned in order to compare the two institutions and identify the ways in which they have taken steps to keep up with modern museological and discourse. To begin, preservation and interpretation, the concepts that form the basis of museums, originates from the human inclination to acquire

The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC, was formed to help the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under apartheid. It served many purposes including: to allow individuals to find out the truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant amnesty from the government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC trials were aired nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to voice the accounts of violence unleashed on them by the government and an opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The reconciliation of South Africawas achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of restoration. The Gugulethu trial is a prime example of how forgiveness among individuals may be possible. As seen in the courtroom screening scene of the hysterical mothers of the victims, these trials could be very emotional for the families of the victims. Seven young men accused of being hostile terrorists were gunned down by police officers. The explanation for the orders for shooting the young men were because they appeared as threats to police as they attempted to arrest the men. Despite that, there are certain aspects of life that simply can only be seen in a pessimistic way if they do not fit one s expectations. Something that follows this pattern is marriage. If the husbandand wifedo not have good chemistry, their marriage simply will end in disaster. One instance of marriage being showcased in this grim manner can be seen in the play A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen. Despite some hope appearing in the relationship between Nora and Torvald Helmer, ultimately, the play paints a gloomy picture on marriage. The usage of the tarantella within the play can symbolize the controlling nature of the husband,Torvald, in the marriage. Nora purposely dances in a way that displeases him, in an attempt to get him to not find out about a forgery she committed. Seeing her drastic dancing, Torvald states, No, no, that s all wrong (204) and attempts to force her to dance in a manner he prefers. This is an example of the tarantella being used to symbolize an inequality within their marriage. At this point in the play, Krogstad, a disgruntled employee of Torvald s, placed a letter blackmailing Nora within his employer s mailbox, so Nora, knowing she has no power to control Torvald s actions, has to purposely dance the tarantella in a ferocious way in order to distract her husband from opening his mailbox. Now, if this marriage was founded on equality, Nora should have been given access to the mailbox or at least, she should have been able to directly admit her past illegal forgery for Torvald s sake, rather than resort to dancing in order to distract him. An alternate meaning for the symbol of the tarantella can be the sexual expectations and objectifying of women within the marriage, as while attempting to have sexual intercourse with Nora, Torvald states, I see you still have the tarantella in your blood it makes you more enchanting than ever (215). Torvald also goes on to talk about his fantasies, and how the tarantella makes him desire her. Nora clearly does not want to have intercourse, but Torvald retaliates with Don t want to ? I m your husband, aren t I? (215). Torvald expects Nora to oblige to his command and objectifies her. In a marriage founded on equality, this objectifying and forcing of someone to follow one s will would simply not occur, as these are examples of inequality between two peoples. It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of

Most people agree that [it has] the capacity to turn the earth into a desert or make the desert bloom (4). Nuclear power is ideal in terms that it is efficient and cost effective, but it also has some downfalls. The process creates a lot of nuclear waste that is highly radioactive without a good place of disposing it, not to mention the inherently dangerous risks involved with nuclear power plants, such as explosions. The power plant at Chernobyl had 4 RBMK 1000 pressurized reactors that were cooled by water, and fueled by splitting uranium atoms. These reactors used graphite blocks that act as moderators to slow down and control the output of neutrons released during nuclear fission. Since nuclear fission and fusion produce a lot of thermal energy, water is used to cool the reactor s core. • 52. Continental Portrait, 1915 Portrait, 1915 Continental Drift Alfred Wegener, has scientists all over the world wracking their brains. Some say he s crazy and most don t believe him. But what if he s right? GEOLOGIC ASSOCIATION, FRANKFURT Wegener has startled scientists with his discovery of Pangaea. According to him, he believes that all the continents were once joined together as one land mass. Then apparently, it started to drift apart as years went on. If we are to believe this hypothesis, we must forget everything we have learned in the last 70 years and start all over again, said an American scientist. We re all scared that he s true and some much braver. Surprisingly, determined Wegener has proof of Pangaea. Wegner had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The areas on the continents where they were all once connected to Antarctica have evidence of debris from glaciers. Wegener had noted that the fossils he found on certain sections of the earth did not match it s climate. Furthermore, there is evidence of glacier scratches or scarring in South Africa. When asked how he came up with such a remarkable theory. He replied and said that he wrote a letter to his future wife saying Doesn t the east coast of South America fit exactly against the west coast of Africa, as if they had once been joined? This is an idea I ll have to pursue. Shortly after this he came across scientific sheets promoting this theory that said they were once connected by a continent sized land bridge that had since sunk into the sea. Fascinated by this he had done more research himself and came up with the theory of Continental Drift. Climatologist Wladimir Koppen said, if it turns out that sense and meaning are now becoming evident in the whole history of the Earth s development, why should we hesitate to toss the old views overboard? So now that you ve been informed of Wegener s theory, you can choose to believe it or not. But like Koppen said, Why
  • 53. Games of the Ancient Olympics Essay Games of the Ancient Olympics The Olympics began in ancient Olympia Greece, which lies 10km east of Pirgos, in a valley between Mt. Kronos, the Alfios river, and the Kladeos. This area was inhabited by the Pisans, whose King was Oinomaus. His daughter Hippodameia had married Pelops, and it has been said that the first games were held in their honor around 1000 B.C. Through the years the games began to attract interest in nearby towns. In 776 B.C. , the leader of the Eleians, Iphitos, rededicated the games to the honor of Zeus, (the most important god in the ancient Greek pantheon). As a result of the religious nature of the games, all wars would cease during the contests. The original games only consisted of one race, one day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pentathlon was said to be invented by Jason, who combined the five events and awarded the first prize to a friend, Peleus, who placed second in everything except for wrestling, which he placed first. The pentathlon was a combination of light events: jumping, running, javelin and heavy events: discus and wrestling. While it remains unknown how the decision of the winner was made, it is believed that the last two winners confronted each other in wrestling, with the winner declared pentathlon victor. Speed, strength, skill, and endurance are all qualities necessary to participate in the pentathlon. A quote from Aristotle, The pentathletes are the best, because they are naturally endowed with both strength and speed (Foundation of the Hellenic World [FHW], 1). Boxing, added in 688 B.C., was first mentioned in Homeric poems, and was held in honor of Patroclus. It is said that Apollo, who defeated and killed Phorbus, was the inventor of the boxing event. The ancient boxing differed in many ways from the modern boxing that we are used to. While having no time limit to the fight, opponents fought until one raised his hand in defeat, or fell knocked out or dead. An effective tactic of ancient boxing was positioning your opponent to face the sun, blinding him with the glare. When a match would stalemate, the contestants had the option of klimax, which meant both men stood still and allowed his opponent a blow without making an attempt to avoid it. For
