School Should Start Later Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of altering school start times is a challenging task that requires a
nuanced approach. The complexity lies in balancing various perspectives, including scientific
research on sleep patterns, educational theories, logistical considerations, and the opinions of
different stakeholders such as students, parents, and educators. The essay must delve into the
potential benefits of a later school start time, such as improved academic performance and
overall well-being, while also addressing potential drawbacks, such as adjusting extracurricular
schedules and potential resistance from traditionalists.
Navigating through a myriad of studies and expert opinions on sleep science, educational
psychology, and organizational dynamics adds another layer of difficulty. The writer must
synthesize this information coherently, presenting a well-rounded argument that acknowledges
both the advantages and disadvantages of changing the current school start times.
Furthermore, addressing the concerns and counterarguments of various stakeholders adds an
extra challenge. The essay needs to anticipate and respond to potential objections, fostering a
balanced and persuasive narrative. It requires the skill to present compelling evidence, anecdotes,
and expert opinions to support the argument while acknowledging the complexity of the issue.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of adjusting school start times involves navigating a
complex landscape of scientific research, educational theory, and stakeholder perspectives. It
demands a careful synthesis of information, a balanced presentation of arguments, and a
thoughtful response to potential objections. Crafting such an essay requires a writer to engage
with multiple facets of the issue, making it a task that demands critical thinking and effective
communication.

Starbucks Persuasion
To most feeble minded individuals, wearing you coffee would be a travesty. It
signifies a mistake. A ruined garment. A wasted opportunity. Alas, let one not be
restricted to the confines of society, try to think outside of the box. Wearing your
coffee from Starbucks may actually be beneficial. In fact, it is, according to an
innovative new startup. The Joule CaffeineBracelet brings constant, consistent energy
to the body without taking a sip of that beloved, brown bean nectar.

Why people put up with the mediocre flavors, the ridiculous amount of calories and
the often moody customer service of Starbucks is beyond the imagination. Perhaps it

Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
Fun Home is the graphic memoir, that the Broadway musical that it was based on.
You have your own musical playlist to listen to while reading. A graphic memoir, is
an autobiography or semi autobiography in the medium of comic book form. Fun
Home, is a lot darker and more apparent with the harsher themes of abuse, and
suicide. Fun Home, is about the famous cartoonist Alison Bechdel s early childhood
days and through her college days. Fun Home is a pun, as her father work at a
funeral home, which the Alison nicknames Fun Home , but it also parallels her real

Bechdel plays around the expectations of storytelling of Fun Home. That we see,
the child Allison uses vocabulary that an adult would use. We see that Bechdel has
a lot of letters written from her family, especially her father. We see that the
narrator Allison knows this and even play into it, as we see Alison s childhood
journal accounts, we know that child Alison did not talk like a proper adult. That
the narrator is deciphering, what child Alison, was pretending and lying about in
her journal. She even recalls early on, that with her father she I remember most

Nature Is Composed Of Animals, Plants, Landscapes And
Many
Nature is composed of animals, plants, landscapes and many other features of the
world that are distinct to all human creations. Nature has been set apart as something
untouched and free of human touch. Natural resources refer to all the materials that
are available in our Planet earth. They are basically utilized by people to satisfy their
physiological needs, including shelter, clothing, air, water. People are unique
creatures who have survived and reproduced in a myriad of environments due to
cultural adaptations. These adaptations have allowed humans to colonize nearly
every ecosystem type on Earth. Not only but also these innovations allowed people to
grow exponentially for millions of years.

the production of food. Researchers show that earth s natural resources are limited,
but today these resources are exploited to meet the nation s needs. Darwin s theory
of natural selection is invoked to argue that humans are conditioned by nature to
struggle for access to limited resources emphasizing on the fact that nature remains
unpredictable. Although the quality of life has improved over the past decades,
the negative effects on our planet are unquestionable. The value that people place
on the environment play a very important role in whether we are a part of nature or
apart from nature. As the population grows, natural resources are being used at a
very fast rate. Some people believe that public land should be managed by the
conservation of the environment and its resources. Meaning that this resources
should be used by humans and managed in a responsible manner. These group of
people see value in all the goods and services nature can provide. Ensuring that all

Dramatic Ironry In O. Henry s Lamb To The Slaughter
Short stories are an exeptional use of literary elements to an audience of all ages.
Lamb to the Slaugher, by O. Henry, expresses many literary elements such as
imagery and dramatic irony. Gift of the Magi is also an amazing use with
foreshadowing and diction. Lamb to the Slaughter uses the elements better than Gift
of the Magi in many different ways, starting with it s precise characters. Lamb to the
slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s
experience with her husband. Dramatic ironyis a very critical part of the story,
especially while evaluating the situation. Personally, I think it s right here on the
premises. Probably right under our very noses. What you think Jack? (Roald Dahl9).
She killed her husband with a frozen lamb leg after discussing troubling news that
was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also her husband s coworkers.
The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him. Mary asked
them of a favor to eat the lambleg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right
under their noses when they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the
most crucial part of the story come alive. Mary walked up behind him and without
any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down
as hard as she could on the back of his head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could have just
said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it elaborates and explains how it
happened.
Gulf War Syndrome Essay
Gulf War Syndrome
One part of being an American, is giving yourself to your country when deemed
necessary. In 1991, the United States took action in the Gulf War, where many US
solders were sent. In fact, a total of 697,000 solders took part in the Gulf War. And
of that amount, 6% (about 45,000) veterans have reported an ailment related to this
war. Much chaos arose from these sicknesses, and from this a syndrome was born.
The syndrome is called the Gulf WarSyndrome. Wether this is myth or not has been
throughly researched, but how can one claim 45,000 veterans to be falsely accusing
an ailment they believe to be at fault of the Gulf War?
There are many different sides of these syndrome, and much hype about who s right

These scenario may seemed far fetched, but unfortunately there are many more stories
as outrageous and even more so. Another unfortunate symptom is birth defects. 67%
of the Gulf War veterans babies are born deformed.
Humans weren t the only ones which were effected by this syndrome. What were
once battle fields for the Gulf War, were later used for agricultural purposes. Sheep
particularly were raised in these areas. Many sheep died mysteriously, and other
sheep became very sick. To prevent more sick sheep, agricultural organophosphates
are carefully established on the known degree of toxicity of each compound. The
organophosphorous used is Bayer 21/99, which is a popular compound that inhibits
treated animals from the skin and digestive tract. Sheep are also more susceptible to
poisoning then cattle and most other emaciated animals. Pre treatment consisted of
weighing, ear tagging, and the collection of blood samples for a baseline red cell
count. It is shown that animals which have been treated have a much higher tolerance
to poisons and a less likely to have more ailments. Symptoms include: Irregular gait
with generalized muscular weakness and severe diarrhea. Slight increase in salivation
and isolated diarrhea. Irregular gait with generalized muscular weakness and severe
diarrhea.

Odysseus Journey Depicted In Homer s Odyssey
Journey s have been important throughout the world and in history. Columbus s
journey is an example because if he didn t take the journey and step out of his
comfort zone the Americas would not be a place that we call home. People who
learn from a powerful experience become intelligent in many ways. In the Odysseyby
Homer, the author uses Odysseusto show that people can overcome obstacles in their
way to get to an important destination. With in the Journey by Mary Oliver, the
author conveys that if people are struck with negativity and go outside their comfort
zone, they use strength to gain more self positivity and strength. The Odyssey shows
that journeys are important because Odysseus journeys were used to get home faster.

Analysis Of Thomas Hardy s Of The D
Author Thomas Hardy is typically distinguished for following a trend in which all
his fiction is characterized by chance being the incarnation of the blind forces
controlling human destiny. As J Clipper once said, Hardy reflected Nietzsche s
agonized cry that God is dead , in his novels. His view of life was that since there is
no God to give meaning to life, Man is alone in the Universe, no better and no
worse than other creatures who live or have lived for a brief moment on this speck
called Earth. The Universe and fate is essentially malevolent and benevolent. Hardy
believes that God, whether he once was once a presence or not, has disappeared
entirely from the world. People are left to defend themselves and cope in a society...

that her mother does. In a similar way, Hardy uses Tess s father John Durbyfield to

the nobility that exists in their bloodline, he believes that their life will soon be
catastrophically changed. Don t you really know, Durbyfield, that you are the lineal

if they were upset at their teammates for not doing their part and getting overly upset
at the other team for playing good soccer is not good sportsmanship. At the end of the
game, whether you have lost or have won you always shake hands with the other
team. It is always necessary to let the other team know that it was a good well
played game whatever the outcome was. A person with good sportsmanship would
clearly accept that fact. People that do have good sportsmanship are more easy to be

and not just for the win. Don t get me wrong, it is always better to win, but
everyone loses at least once in his or her lives. Lastly, I think that dedication is
another key component to playing yet again, not just soccer, but any sport. Having
a teammate that isn t dedicated is like having an employee not show up to work
every other day. You need that person to be there to get the job done. If you miss
days of practice or even games, those are days that everyone is running an hour

Fast Food And The Food Industry
The majority of Americans enjoy fast food like bees enjoy their honey. Fast food is
hard not to love due to families experiencing fast paced days, parents who work
more than 20 hours a week, and having children with picky appetites can be rough.
For most American families, it can be a challenge to not consider eating fast food
more than once a week. The fast foodindustry has grown tremendously through the
years. The one restaurant that is known all over the world for their golden arches
and their big macs is McDonalds. With knowledge and personal experiences, I can
say that McDonalds is by far the worst fast food restaurantin America. I believe this
due to how unhealthy the food is for our bodies, the disturbing facts about the happy
meals, the poor service, and the non cleanliness of the restaurant.
Fast food might be easy and cheap but people do not realize how harmful the food
is for their bodies. The problem is the food that is served at these types of
restaurants, especially McDonalds, are high in fat, salt, processed, and can have
harmful ingredients included in the food. While home cooked food takes time to
plan and make people know what they are eating, that isn t the case at McDonalds:
McDonald s burgers retain its fresh appearance for a very long time. This can easily
fool customers who do not have a hint of this alteration in their burgers. The use of
excessive preservatives is harmful for your health which McDonalds seems to
overlook for gaining more and more

Hashimoto Thyroiditis also known as Hashimoto s disease named after Hakarum
Hashimoto back in 1912, is an Autoimmune Lymphocytic infiltration of the thyroid
gland by antithyroid autoantibodies. It is highly likely for a person to develop
Hypothyroidism as a result of the autoantibodies attacking the thyroid and keeping
the thyroid from producing the amount of hormones our bodies need. As stated in
the Ear, Nose and Throat Journal Approximately 5% of the general population has
hypothyroidism, with Hashimoto thyroiditis the most common cause. (2) The
journal also goes on to say how women are affected disproportionately with a ratio

Genre Analysis Of Mabel
One genre of podcast that I find intriguing for various nostalgic and inexplicably
self punitive reasons, is that which explores the eeriness of the world, reminiscent

the remote countryside. In the first episode of Mabel, The Letters, Anna tries to get

with unsettling music, which is a common motif that continues throughout the

from the perspective of a neighbour, Boudet includes a cheesy gunshot sound effect
that takes away from the gravity of the moment. There are also a number of
moments where unsettling music is played for a significant period of time, around
15 20 seconds, after Boudet reveals a key part of the story that in my opinion, felt
awkwardly lengthy. While I found the music itself to be effective in evoking feelings
of unease, the timing of certain musical elements and sound effects was not quite

Melting Pot Anna Quindlen
Melting Pot or Anti Melting Pot? Surprisingly, the melting pot is a unclear piece of
the American Identity. The melting pot is an idea about how people (immigrants) all
over the world come in one place and share their different cultures. America is one
example of a melting pot since immigrants all over the world visit, live and share
thoughts and ideas to create one big unique culture. While most Americans are proud
of the United Statesto be a country of big culture, some Americans do not like the
notion of immigrants coming from other countries to live in America. Although many
writers demonstrate that the melting potexists, some authors show that there are
Americans who don t want the United States to become a melting pot. To examine...

These Americans want to keep their culture unmixed with other ethnic groups. For
instance, White Americans once segregated African Americans. Not only are African
Americans segregated, but other races are segregated as well. Daniel Thames, a
author from the Washington News states, But yet, you witness this persistence of
segregation [in all races], the fragmentation, all these fights over resources, this finger
pointing. You would have to be blind not to see it (Thames 2). It seems although there
are indeed immigrants from other countries, that actually makes competition for
resources (such as jobs) for Americans harder. Therefore, some Americans are not
interested in seeing another immigrants culture. In fact, some Americans may dislike
immigrants for taking resources from them. . Metaphorically, this represents
Americans trying to put a lid over the melting pot, so that no races enter the pot. Only
white Americans would exist inside the pot. In addition, Noy s situation is similar to
a situation called nativism. Nativism is the political idea where people born
established in a country are more important than immigrants. The atmosphere of Noy
s story is similar to nativism. Noy s classmates and neighbors appeared to be superior
and more important. Nativism was actually common throughout United States history.
Name Of The Rose
The movie, The Name of the Rose is about apprentice Adso of Melk and his
mentor, Franciscan friar William of Baskerville. These two men traveled to a
Benedictine abbey to discuss the poverty of Christ. While at the abbey, there was a
series of mysterious murders that continued to take place one after another. The
abbey requested that William and Adso help to solve the mystery of why these
murders were taking place. Through many trials and setbacks, William discovered
that a secretive book was being passed from person to person. He learned that when
a person touched the book with their hands, they later digested the poisonous ink.
This poisonous ink that got on the victims hands was the cause of all the murders.
Therefore, the movie does not have an accurate plot, however the historical

Essay On Acromegaly
Acromegaly is a relatively uncommon but serious disorder. Usually Acromegaly is a
benign tumor on the pituitary gland. The disorder causes the gland to secrete excess
growth hormone which the body doesn t need. Acromegaly translates into acro

unusual over development of the hands, feet, and facial bones (jaw, brow ridge, and

ages of 6 and 17 that play sports (Kelley). This enormous number not only represents
children playing a sport but it also represents something that each of those kids have
in common: they each have a coach. There are three key things involved in every

successful for the rest of their lives. They teach them how to exercise, how to
compete, how to work on a team, how to work toward a goal, and how to develop
and manage relationships. No relationship, however, is more important than that
between a coach and his/her player. A coach can be a player s role model and
inspiration but, unfortunately, a coach can also be a player s work enemy and can
ruin a sport for an athlete. Likewise, a player can either make a season enjoyable
for his/her coach or can make the season miserable. I will explore the importance of
the relationship between coaches and players and the effect that it can have on both
parties.
The relationship that a player has with his/her coach is many times underestimated in
how important it truly is.
Habits Of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey
Summary of Main Points in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
This book on 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was written in 1989, is still a great
book today. Stephen R. Covey talked about great habits that we need to encrypt in
our daily living to be effective at work, home and as a person. He explained how the
habits is based on developing our independence. The first habit he talked about was
being proactive in our lives. To be proactive we need to have self awareness of our
actions. We need to take responsibility for the choices we make and take responsible
for those choices.
Second habit is to begin with the end in mind. This is where you develop a vision
of what you want to become and our conscience will decide what values will guide
you and everything that you do should have an end.
Third habit is to put first things first. This is where we need to have discipline to
our day so we make sure that we focus on what is the most important to the least
important. This is where our will power will come into effect so we don t act on our
desires or impulses.
Habit four is the win win thought process. To be successful you need to look at the
problem between you and the other party and approach it with a mutual solution. To
do this it requires understanding and being understood. This way everyone can be
satisfied with the outcome of the solution.
The fifth habit was, seek first to understand them to understood. One important skill
that we need to use is our listening
Failing Forward Essay example
Zack Ray Ms. Paulson TAG 9 28 May 2013 Failing Forward Failing forward is a
very important thing to know how to do for personal growth and leadership. Every
great leader and successful person has learned how to fail forward. To Fail forward
there are fifteen steps. I believe that these steps are fairly accurate, but I m not
really an expert on leadership myself I say these steps are accurate because for
each step he gave specific examples of how certain people used one of these steps
and eventually becomes successful. For example, in chapter two, Maxwell talks
about Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick fil A. First Truett and his brother Ben

Eventually all the original monkeys were replaced, and no monkeys had received
the cold shower, so none of them would climb the pole, but none of them knew
why. These monkeys represented failure in the workplace, and how people are
prone to get into ruts, or continue to make the same mistake over and over again.
This chapter is about changing your response to failure by accepting responsibility.
The monkeys, at the end had no reason not to climb the pole, so none of them were
accepting responsibility. The final example is showing how it takes many failures
to be successful. There are two groups in a clay sculpture class. One group is
graded on quantity of the clay. Fifty pounds of clay is an A, forty pounds of clay is
a B and so on. The other group is graded on quality of the clay sculptures made.
This group was only graded on how well one piece of pottery was made. Can you
guess which group created better quality pottery? Contrary to what you might think,
the first group made better quality clay sculptures. This demonstrates that people
learn more from failing than not failing at all. Throughout this book Maxwell talks
about how if you do not fail often, then you are not being creative or adventurous
enough. This can be applied to businesses, where most people fail around five or
six times before actually succeeding, or just to your own hobby, like sports. All in
all the stories in this book are very important to the book. This I think is
The Legacy Of Theodore Roosevelt
The White House has seen many Great men come and go, some leaving more of a
mark in history and others fading into the background. Theodore roosevelt, I can
honestly say was one of the the most influential and active presidents we ve ever
been graced to have. Being the voice of the people, aided our country in
environmental concerns, Excelling in foreign policies and winning the nobel peace
prize. He had an incredibly fulfilling and prosperous life. Theodore Rooseveltwas one
of most dynamic Presidents in all of American history.
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City, to
Theodore Roosevelt, and Martha Bulloch. He had an older sister Anna and later he
would obtain a younger brother and sister, Elliot and Corinne. His family had
owned a successful plate glass import business. As a young boy, Theodore
Roosevelt (or teddy) as his family so frequently called him ( of which he wasn t
very fond), spent a lot of time inside his family s home. He was home schooled

for animals, but by his teens though, with the encouragement of his father Theodore
developed strenuous exercise routines that had included weightlifting and boxing.
Later Roosevelt happily went to Harvard, but unfortunately after only 2 years of
being there his father passed away. The pain of losing his father fueled his passion
and he graduated and moved on to Columbia law school. Roosevelt didn

Reading Response #4 Schaberg s article How Mary Magdalene Became a Whore is
trying to figure out how Mary Magdalene became a whore in the eyes of the
audience. Schaberg proves her point by using examples from the Gospels to depict
how such a claim could have taken place. The problem that the author runs into is
that with the Gospels writings, it is hard telling how to comprehend it as to whether
or not Mary Magdalene is in fact a whore. Schaberg proposes that Mary Magdalene
is actually an importance to early Christian faith and that the Gospels lack of Mary
Magdalene being mentioned creates a cloak that claims her to be a whore in which
hides the fact that she was actually loyal, courageous ... Show more content on

Rather than focusing on her loyalty and passion, the reader instead focuses on sin
and repentance. She had been there at the cross and at the tomb, yet nobody sees
this as passion. They instead see it as a type of anointation to admit her sins a
repent. According to some sources in the Bible, it is also claimed that Mary
Magdalene was the first to see Jesus after the resurrection. I feel that Schaberg is
trying to point out that if Mary Magdalene was a whore, then it would be highly
unlikely that Jesus would first appear before her. The last bit of evidence that
Schaberg points out is that the Gospels have purposely not told us about Mary
Magdalene in a more in depth description. She had been travelling with Jesus and his
disciples, yet the only mentions of her are at the tomb and at the resurrection of Jesus.
I feel that Mary Magdalene was purposely left out because if they built her up to be
a leader or a character with absolute importance, then the males would become
humiliated; plus there was no sort of gender equality back then either, so a woman
was either left out of the story or considered to be inferior to

can be measured by the number of offenders admitted into the facility or system. The
most recent data and information provided was 14,500 juveniles were estimated aged
to be housed in adult corrections. Some where still housed in public and private

Due to them being young they are at a much greater risk of harm than those housed in
a juvenile facility. The idea that juveniles within the criminal justicesystem is itself
flawed.Due to the fact that to act as though a juvenile delinquent is in the same
mind as a adult offender, is to say they share in mind and matureness. The youth
must be treated fairly , not punished, and the judge should act as a wise and kind
parent. That can express that youth may commit crimes, but they are still in the
growth and development stages in their lives for molding and changes to take place.
In the process of sending juveniles offender into an adult facility leave the notion that
the justice system has the best interest of the community, for where, the juvenile

Similes In George Elliott Clarke s The Wisdom Of Shelley
The Wisdom Of Shelley by George Elliott Clarke is a beautifully written poem with
a darker meaning. There are many interesting things hiding within the poem but there
are a few specific ones I will mention. First, there are many different poetic devices
used within this short poem. This includes imagery, similes, and repetition. Second,
the symbol of this poem is the rosewhich is mentioned a few times throughout the
poem. Third, the theme for The Wisdom Of Shelley is deception. Each of these points
contributes to my understanding of the poem in its own way. There are many
poetic devices used throughout The Wisdom Of Shelley . Repetition of words was
the first thing that really jumped out at me. Clarke repeats the words words words
words (4), and loved loved loved (15). What I believe this represents is how the
character X only says empty words to what I presume is his family. If you need to
repeat the word loved three times, then it starts to feel like you are only saying the
words to make the other person happy.
The first few lines of the poem say You come down, after / five winters, X, / bristlin
with roses (1 3) and this can be taken as X has been gone for five years showing no
signs of returning. He suddenly shows up with roses one day and expects all to be
forgotten and forgiven. The presumed child does not want to forgive him and forget
about what happened. This really sets the mood and tone for what is going to happen
in the poem. Since it is

Home Is Right For A New Home
When searching for a new home, whether you are moving to a new city or simply
moving to a home in the same city, there are many things to consider. The number of
bedrooms and bathrooms, the neighborhood, the square footage, and many other
factors need to be considered. For many people, one issue is whether a two story or
a one story home is right for them. While neither plan is perfect for every family,
there are advantages and disadvantages to either option.
Two Story Homes
One of the greatest advantages to a two story home is that you can fit a larger
home on a smaller lot. This allows you to have more outdoor space or a larger
home than your neighbors with one story homes, whose lot size is similar to yours.
Of course, increased outdoor space or increased square footage could be a
disadvantage when it comes to maintenance.
Two story homes also often allow for greater privacy. In some homes, one bedroom,
generally the master bedroom, is on a different level than the other bedrooms. This
allows you to have a little privacy from the children. If you have an adult child or in
laws living with you, the room on a separate level can also be nice to give that
person or those people a little more privacy. For some families, though, having the
master bedroom on a different level from the other bedrooms is not ideal. If you
have a baby or toddler, you may want the child s room near yours just in case the
child starts to cry at night. There may be other reasons you do not want

The military classics of China represent a long and historical culture of the Chinese
people. They represent the societal concerns and developments of China and within
these texts are recurring tenets that occupied the philosophy of China. Five tenets will

philosophy of Confucianismpermeates throughout the Chinese history and society
beginning with Han Wudi s reign. Confucian influence found within the texts of the

Confucianism can be found once more in this strategy as the goal was to kill as
few people as possible, since the goal of warfare wasn t to kill people. Sun tzu
favored a primary objective of subjugating other states without fighting thus
diplomatic coercion was the idea method. He stressed avoiding prolonged warfare.
He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value prolonged
warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is
inflicted. The writers like Wei Liao tzu focused on speed, deception, concentration
of force, assaulting weak points while avoiding strengths as strategic ways of
forcing the opponent to acquiesce. Brute force warfare was disdain for a maneuver
that provided a quick end to a conflict thus achieving the desired goals without excess
killing.
Confucian ideals permeate through the military texts and the five tenets analyzed as
examples of the relationship between the military texts and Confucianism. The
writers of these texts were bound culturally to the Confucian ideals as they wrote the
texts. This relationship emphasized peace more than pacifism. Benevolence and
righteousness can be seen through the various examples showing how the Confucian

People constantly evaluate the rewards and costs of their relationship as well as the
rewards and costs of interaction with another individual. Rewards and costs can be
tangible, such as money or gifts, or psychological, such as social support or
intellectual stimulation (Unger amp; Johnson 604). According to Unger and Johnson,
if the reward/cost balance is more favorable than that of other potential relationships,
the person will remain in the relationship, if the costs outweigh the rewards and an
alternative relationship with more favorable outcomes is available, the person will
leave the existing relationship in favor of the alternative (604). Yet each reward and
cost is different to each individual. To better understand reward and costs is to better
understand each individual.
The primary theorists, John Thibaut and Harold Kelley, made a list of assumptions
that the Social Exchange theory is based on. This list falls into two categories; one
that focuses on individuals, and one that describes the social exchange between two
people (Unger amp; Johnson 604). The assumptions that the Social Exchange theory
makes are about human nature and the nature of relationships. The first, as mentioned
earlier, is that of reward and punishment. Humans seek rewards and avoid

Defining Shylock from William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
For hundreds of years, the Jews had lived in their ancestral home Palestine but when
they were exiled in about the year 400AD, they scattered throughout Europe and
formed a Diaspora: a community of exiled people. When the Roman Empire
deteriorated, many of the Jews returned to Palestine, and were ruled by the Turks,
then the British, eventually got their own state in 1946.
In 1066, when Jews came over to Britain with William the conqueror, they had to

The overall mistreatment of Shylock and other Jews throughout the play is quite
evident. When Shylock is talking to Antonio, he says:
...Suff rance is the badge of all our tribe; you call me misbeliever, cut throat dog, and
spit upon my Jewish gabardine
Also, in the courtroom scene, even the judge, who is supposed to represent justice
and fairness, is biased against him he says to Antonio,
I feel sorry for thee; thou art come to answer a stony adversary...
This shows the magnitude of the prejudice against Jews at the time in Venice.
Shylock s attitude to money is one of greed. He obsesses about the amount of
money he has, and seems to place it as a top priority, even above his family. He may
react this way to money because he is only allowed to do one job, and therefore will

with Antonio to ...lend...money...not as to thy friends...but...to thine enemy, who if he

is so determined to receive his bond; he hates Antonio with a vengeance, and has
agreed the bond over one of the most precious things in his life: his money.

Unbearable Lightness By Portia De Foss
In the book Unbearable lightness: a story of loss and gain , author Portia De Rossi
takes her audience through her life explaining how she dealt with Anorexia and
Bulimia while trying to achieve her dreams in the public eye. She takes you into
her mind and lets you know her thoughts and goals. She shares what herself and
thousands of other people struggle through everyday. She explains how her
constant need for perfection almost ruined her life. Portia, or formally known
before fame as Amanda Rodgers, moved from her home in Australia to Los Angeles
to achieve her lifelong dream of being a model and actress. From a young age, she
explains she was always setting herself at the highest standard, never wanting to be
average. Average. It was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was constantly submerged in perfect individuals who strived for greatness and
fame. When she first landed her first role on Ally McBeal she decided to get a
nutritionist. She began a healthy diet that ultimately led to her rapid deterioration.
Portia would make slight alterations to her nutritionists diet plan, Suzanne had set
my calorie intake for optimum weight loss at 1400 calories a day. I reset it to
1000, problem solved (131, De Rossi). She would constantly tell herself that a
slight change could only benefit her but the small changes she made to her
lifestyle quickly added up. A diet of 1,000 calories a day gradually decreases
making its way to 900, 750, and eventually 500 calories a day. Everything she ate
was precisely measured out to ensure her caloric intake was nothing higher or
lower than desired. Not only did she moniter foods but also the potential items she
could accidentally ingest such at lip balm or lip gloss. On top of her extremely
unambiguous diet, she became infatuated with working out. Not only did she work
out 2 3 times daily but she went as far to place a treadmill in her dressing room, At
lunch i had walked on the treadmill in my dressing room for an hour (4, De Rossi).
She continued with her low calorie, high cardio routine for months while rapidly
losing weight, each pound lost considered an achievement. Everytime she was told
she looked too skinny she took it as a compliment other than a subtle gesture that
Similarities Between The Thirteen British Colonies
The thirteen British colonies share many similarities as the building blocks of the
United States of America we have today. As much as they are similar, they are
separated by different origins and histories. Arranged by their geographic locations,
the colonies can be organized into New England, Middle, and Southern colonies, each
having a specific pattern of development. In the cases of politics, religion, legal
systems, and economy, the thirteen are very much alike. Before settling in America,
all the original colonists lived under Britain s rule. Forms of Protestantism were
practiced throughout the colonies. All trading followed mercantilism rules. At
various degrees, all colonies fought the Natives due to land ownership. Salutary

An Reflection On The Impression Formation
INTRODUCTION:
Impression is a long lasting image of a person created in our minds which can last
long for years. There are a lot of research done by Solomon Asch (1946), Bruner
Taiguri (1954), Rosenberg, Nelson Vivekanathan (1968) to understand Impression
Formation. According to Solomon Asch (1946) at a glance of any personan
impression of his personality can instantly form. Even by looking or talking with
that person a whole story about his entire character can be told. These impressions
can be formed quickly and easily which can enhance or distress our opinion on a
person. Our ongoing observations can t be change but we can neglect it. Even it is
known that this process is not perfect but sometimes it can be extremely sensitive. ...

There has been different studies that shows that skills of impression management
work effectively. It even helps in creating optimistic first impression of a person but
it also cannot be true always. For example, it s not always necessary that good first
impression of a student (intelligent) on the first day of school would be same, it can
vary or change according to his performance in the class.
The question is why there is always different character in a person. And even when
they have same character what make them different from each other. According to
Solomon Asch (1946) every individual have different characteristics. For example, a
person can have different characteristics like he/she is intelligent, energetic, have
great sense of humor, is very fast in his work, courageous, punctual and humble with
his fellows. This can create an impression of that person in our mind. A combination
of a person character make an impression of him/her on others. But the main question
asked by Solomon Asch (1946) We ask: How do the several characteristics function
together to produce an impression of one person? What principles regulate this
process?
According to Asch (1946) the variety and way to which one goes elsewhere form the
first information given by the trait is variable but some traits have much more
Dna Damage, Repair, And Dna Methylation Essay
Introduction:
Modification of damaged DNA seems to be an understudied subject, there is much to
understand on the restoration of DNA damage, repair and DNA methylation.
Genomic DNA can be modified by methylation but much of it is affected on a gene
when silenced. When epigenetic modification has been implicated with cancer and
aging it causes DNA methylation to also have an impact on the double strand of
DNA analysis. Modification as such provoke deteriorating changes like aging found
in multicellular organisms and DNA damage may magnify biochemical pathways
that regulate a cells growth or control DNA replication with DNA repair. In the
article DNA Damage, Homology Directed Repair, and DNA Methylation written by
Concetta Cuozzo, Antonio Porcellini, Tiziana Angrisano, et al. they hypothesize how
DNA damage and gene silencing may induce a DNA double strand break within a
genome as well as when DNA methylation is induced by homologous recombination
that it may somewhat mark its reparation through a DNA segment and protect its
cells against any unregulated gene expression that may be followed by DNA damage.
The experiments used to demonstration how gene conversion can modify methylation
pattern of repaired DNA and when that occurs methylation is able to silence the
recombined gene. When exploring the molecular mechanisms that link DNA damage
and the silencing gene then there is an induced double strand break that can be found
at a specific location or DNA sequence in where the

Hegemonic Masculinity
Hegemonic masculinity is a social construction which suggests to society that men
must be stronger than the feminine of the species in every way. By definition,
hegemonic masculinity is the dominance of men over women, where men must
sustain this dominance in any way. Defining what the hegemonic masculine ideal is
in Canada is difficult as we are a very young, multicultural country, so the notion of
the ideal manis a warped characterization of the ideal American male. This paper
seeks to prove that hegemonic masculinityis a social construction which is detrimental
to society. The negative effects of hegemonic masculinity on men include; male
violence, misogyny, and homophobia which are inextricably linked to how we define
manhood as a culture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving up the idea of boy will be boys, especially in the case of violence is key to
resolving some of the issues. That is, when two boys are hitting each other this is
a violent act, and they should be taught that it is not the answer. As well,
associating boys with words such as power, dominance, aggression and guns,
should be changed because it will have boys feel as though they have to be a
certain way to be a real man and that includes aggressive behaviours. Another
solution to ending violence in masculinity would be to stop comparing it to
femininity. As the narrator in Tough Guise 2 reiterated, if a man gives the
appearance of being kind and gentle he should not be referred to as a pussy or a fag
; this type of behaviour not only instills homophobia but also proves more than
anything that kindness is should be seen as a womanly

tribute in the reaping day and promises her sister Primrose Everdeen and later on in
part II Rue a district 11 girl who she was allies with. Katniss learns that she must be
dependent on others to have a chance to win. The books give a great description with
her relationship with Peeta, Rue, Haymitch, the tribute victors, and familyand friends
she loves. Katniss had to depend on other people for survival an example would be
when she was trapped on a tree by the careers. This is where Rue points out the

Cut Down The Dog Population By Spaying Or Neutering
Cut Down the Dog Population by Spaying or Neutering Every day in America and
across the world litter on top of litter of unwanted puppies are given birth to by dogs
un expectantly. There is one common solution to this issue that majority of
veterinarians share with pets owners during their pets doctor visits; it is
recommended that all dogowners be responsible by either spaying or neuteringtheir
pets by 6 months old and/or before they enter heat for females or reach maturity for
males, and begin having the desire to want to mate.
The statistics are outrageous when it comes to the number of abandoned and
neglected animals that are homeless or have to live out their lives in shelters all
because owners take it upon themselves not to have their furry friends operated on.
An estimated 11,000 pets in this country are euthanized daily, according to a Pet
Smart Charities study that s half of the 8 million pets that land in shelters each year.
Not all of these pets start out homeless. Half of U.S. pet owners who ve had a
pregnant dog or cat say the pregnancy happened by accident, according to statistics
from the study (NAPS). This is only the number of unwanted animals that are
actually caught; let us not forget about the feral animals on the street.
By spaying or neutering a dog this will absolutely cut down on the number of
animals that are brought to animal control each day. If knowing that a puppy from
the litter that your dog gave birth to will most likely be euthanized
What Does The Yellow Symbolize In The Great Gatsby
Laura Emberson

Literary Analysis Final Copy
16 April 2015
Symbolism in The Great Gatsby Symbolism prevails above all other things
throughout F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby. The author s use of symbolism
creates many themes throughout the story. Some of the main themes recognized
throughout the story are those regarding lies and deceit, marriage, money, religion,
and isolation. The symbols creating these themes are represented with colors. The
author uses color throughout the story to symbolize deceit, innocence, envy,
lifelessness, and sadness.
The color yellow is used to symbolize deceit. Gatsby s yellow car is used to represent
his deceiving life. He wants everyone to perceive him as a well off, impressive ...

The color gray is used to describe the desolate valley of ashes, which then makes
anyone or anything else associated with the color gray lifeless as well. George
Wilson is described as being covered in ashen dust along with everything else in the
valley of ashes which suggests that he has lost hope in his marriage with Myrtle
and is depressed as a result. More than once, it is suggested that Dr. TJ Eckelburg s
eyes are the all seeing eyes of God. The association of Eckelburg to God may lead
readers to associate the valley of ashes to a place such as purgatory, where lifeless,
hopeless souls remain under the eyes of God, hoping to one day be freed. The
religious references made in the book obviously suggest that one of the themes is
religion or perhaps the lack of it. The only mention of God is in reference to eyes on
a billboard, which suggests that maybe the obsession with wealth and fortune has
surpassed the importance of
Diels Alder Reaction
The Diels Alder Reaction is an addition reaction between a 1,3 diene and a
dienophile. In this reaction, furan, the diene, reacted with maleic anhydride, the
dienophile, to form exo 7 oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept anhydride, the adduct. The adduct
was recovered via vacuum filtration, and the melting point, 1H NMR and 12C NMR
Spectroscopywas obtained. This Diels Alder Reaction yielded an exo adduct as
opposed to an endo product.
In more detail, the Diels Alder reaction is the reaction in which the dienophile adds
to the alkenes on the diene. The reaction forms a new 6 membered ring and new C
C sigma bonds. The reaction involves breaking 3 pi bonds, and forming 2 new C C
sigma bonds and one new C=C double bond. The reaction is concerted, meaning all ...

the most downfield because it was the most deshielded because it is double bonded

upfield because it is not bonded directly to any electron withdrawing groups or

I Jehovah your God will curse all who threaten you and bless the people who are

showed him and he was seventy five years old, and Lot his nephew went with him
out of Ha ran. Back then to uproot and re locate was unheard of, the roads they
traveled were wrought with thieves and criminals. To put it in perspective, think of
walking outside of your home with nothing but the clothes on your back, a Rolex
watch on your wrist and you are surrounded by thugs and scary characters. Now
imagine that scenario but with great boldness and confidence that nothing will harm
you. That is the attitude Abraham had when leaving his home at seventy five years
old, he knew God would take care of him and his family. The faith of the Jewish
people stem from stories such as this, their great confidence in their God is awe
inspiring and almost mysterious. (Source Number 2.)
Onto our next subject, we will look at the Greeks and the influence they have had on
Architecture in Western Civilization. A simple observation of the Acropolis and you
can see familiar designs and influence in western architecture from the columns to
the moldings found in buildings today for example, the White House is filled with
columns and moldings imitating Greek design. It s easy to see why we have adopted
the strong yet elegant designs of the Greeks, the designs are sturdy

The United States Air Force is the organization that I was a part of for many years
and I have the best understanding of. The Air Force has been much more selective
throughout the last few years as to who they will let enlist. Before you begin the
process on enlisting, an individual must be between 17 and 39 years of age, be a U.S.
citizen or legal permanent resident and have a high school diploma or GED with at
least 15 college credits. After meeting the first few requirements, you must take the
Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, which covers four areas
critical to the Air Force mission: arithmetic reasoning, work knowledge, paragraph
comprehension and mathematics knowledge. This test helps determine whether you
have the mental aptitude to withstand the demands of the Air Force and identifies
your strengths to determine the careers best suited for your future success. Once you
have taken the ASVAB, your recruiter will make an appointment for you at a nearby

Why Polytechnic Students Take Up Part Time Jobs
Executive Summary
The main aim of this report is to present the various reasons why polytechnic
students take up part time jobs and develop an analysis. Data for the report was
obtained through a survey with 15 questions and given to 60 respondents.
From the survey findings, it was discovered that a large percentage of polytechnic
students are taking up part time jobs. Reasons for taking up part time jobs are to
earn extra income, daily allowances and for experience. Despite having lessons
during weekdays, some of the polytechnic students still work during weekdays. But
still, majority of the respondents work on Fridays and weekends.
Most of the respondents enjoy working and feel that taking up part time jobs will

This can be reflected by the survey results itself. Of the 60 respondents, 83% (50
respondents) of them take up part time jobs currently.
There are many reasons as to why polytechnic students take up part time jobs.
Among all the others, the main reason is to earn extra income for their daily
lifestyle activities. This reason is chosen by 42% (25 respondents) of the
respondents. Other reasons are for daily allowance (18%), experience (20%) and for
productive use of time (18%). Polytechnic students have no uniforms when attending
lessons unlike secondary schools and junior colleges. The students will then have to
spend money on clothes and apparels. This can be the main reason why polytechnic
students need to have extra income more than students from secondary school and
junior colleges.
Also, survey also shows that more than half (52%) of the respondents are not
receiving monthly allowance from their parents. With no monthly allowance, it is a
must for them to work for money to cover their expenses. As for the rest (48%) of the
respondents who are still receiving allowance from their parents, 69% (20
respondents) of them receive $101 $200.This amount is insufficient for polytechnic
students therefore they need to work for extra income which constitutes such a huge
percentage of the reasons on why they take up part time
Music and Race Essay
Although artists do not create certain music to cure diseases or to make scientific
or technological discoveries, music is one thing society can never live without. To
both artists and their listeners, music provides an indispensible beauty that helps
fulfill lives, and connect to nature. Music expresses the human condition in the
purest way and affects everyone at a personal level. Plato, a well known classical
Greek philosopher once said, If you want to measure the spiritual depth of society,
make sure to mark its music. Generally performer collaborate songs to represent the
popular pop culture, and social issues, and wish for their society as well as their

The main theme of the blues was built upon racism in the surrounding. The music
expressed the bad treatment, and starvation that blacks received from the dominant
race. An example of the music is by Ma Rainey, who was one of the earliest
connections between the male country blues artists that roamed the backroads of
the South and their female equivalent; she made her professional debut in 1900 at
the age of l4 at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia. She was one of the
first to feature the blues on stage. Ma Rainey said from Chain Gang Blues :
Many days of sorrow, many nights of woe,
Many days of sorrow, many nights of woe,
And a ball and chain, everywhere I go.
Nowadays the blues revolve around the meaning of sadness but doesn t have a true
message of fighting for survival or deprivation of freedom. In the process of
searching for the modern day blues, it was discovered that the music is compiled by
mostly Caucasian artist compared to the past where it was conceived by blacks to
prompt their practices and beliefs.
Disco is a genre of dance music that gained its popularity during the middle to late

used as a reaction by New York City s blacks as well

  • 5. Dramatic Ironry In O. Henry s Lamb To The Slaughter Short stories are an exeptional use of literary elements to an audience of all ages. Lamb to the Slaugher, by O. Henry, expresses many literary elements such as imagery and dramatic irony. Gift of the Magi is also an amazing use with foreshadowing and diction. Lamb to the Slaughter uses the elements better than Gift of the Magi in many different ways, starting with it s precise characters. Lamb to the slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s experience with her husband. Dramatic ironyis a very critical part of the story, especially while evaluating the situation. Personally, I think it s right here on the premises. Probably right under our very noses. What you think Jack? (Roald Dahl9). She killed her husband with a frozen lamb leg after discussing troubling news that was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also her husband s coworkers. The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him. Mary asked them of a favor to eat the lambleg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right under their noses when they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the most crucial part of the story come alive. Mary walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could have just said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it elaborates and explains how it happened.

And of that amount, 6% (about 45,000) veterans have reported an ailment related to this war. Much chaos arose from these sicknesses, and from this a syndrome was born. The syndrome is called the Gulf WarSyndrome. Wether this is myth or not has been throughly researched, but how can one claim 45,000 veterans to be falsely accusing an ailment they believe to be at fault of the Gulf War? There are many different sides of these syndrome, and much hype about who s right and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These scenario may seemed far fetched, but unfortunately there are many more stories as outrageous and even more so. Another unfortunate symptom is birth defects. 67% of the Gulf War veterans babies are born deformed. Humans weren t the only ones which were effected by this syndrome. What were once battle fields for the Gulf War, were later used for agricultural purposes. Sheep particularly were raised in these areas. Many sheep died mysteriously, and other sheep became very sick. To prevent more sick sheep, agricultural organophosphates are carefully established on the known degree of toxicity of each compound. The organophosphorous used is Bayer 21/99, which is a popular compound that inhibits treated animals from the skin and digestive tract. Sheep are also more susceptible to poisoning then cattle and most other emaciated animals. Pre treatment consisted of weighing, ear tagging, and the collection of blood samples for a baseline red cell count. It is shown that animals which have been treated have a much higher tolerance to poisons and a less likely to have more ailments. Symptoms include: Irregular gait with generalized muscular weakness and severe diarrhea. Slight increase in salivation and isolated diarrhea. • 8. Analysis Of Thomas Hardy s Of The D Author Thomas Hardy is typically distinguished for following a trend in which all his fiction is characterized by chance being the incarnation of the blind forces controlling human destiny. As J Clipper once said, Hardy reflected Nietzsche s agonized cry that God is dead , in his novels. His view of life was that since there is no God to give meaning to life, Man is alone in the Universe, no better and no worse than other creatures who live or have lived for a brief moment on this speck called Earth. The Universe and fate is essentially malevolent and benevolent. Hardy believes that God, whether he once was once a presence or not, has disappeared entirely from the world. Did you say the stars were worlds, Tess? Yes. All like ours? I don t know, but I think so. They sometimes seem to be like the apples on our stubbard tree. Most of them splendid and sound a few blighted. Which do we live on a Splendid one or a blighted one? A blighted one. (Hardy 54) Tess is raised in an environment that encourages a belief in a kind of predetermination and fatality, demonstrated by the fact that her mother often consults the complete fortune teller, an old book of astrological guidance. Tess however has been educated, and thus does not subscribe to the same beliefs that her mother does. In a similar way, Hardy uses Tess s father John Durbyfield to illustrate the power of fate to change one s life. In chapter one, when John is told of the nobility that exists in their bloodline, he believes that their life will soon be catastrophically changed. Don t you really know, Durbyfield, that you are the lineal representative of the

Your legs are so sore, it feels like you can t take another stride, your so out of breath from chasing the ball around, and your so exhausted from last nights practice, your bed seems to be the most attractive thing to you right now. Three hour practices of straight running, push ups, and sit ups has its pros and cons. Even at times when you feel like you need a break, pushing yourself through it is what makes you a better player. Where as if they were upset at their teammates for not doing their part and getting overly upset at the other team for playing good soccer is not good sportsmanship. At the end of the game, whether you have lost or have won you always shake hands with the other team. It is always necessary to let the other team know that it was a good well played game whatever the outcome was. A person with good sportsmanship would clearly accept that fact. People that do have good sportsmanship are more easy to be around. It s almost like they re carefree and just play soccer for the fun of the game and not just for the win. Don t get me wrong, it is always better to win, but everyone loses at least once in his or her lives. Lastly, I think that dedication is another key component to playing yet again, not just soccer, but any sport. Having a teammate that isn t dedicated is like having an employee not show up to work every other day. You need that person to be there to get the job done. If you miss days of practice or even games, those are days that everyone is running an hour more than you and are gaining more endurance. Fast food is hard not to love due to families experiencing fast paced days, parents who work more than 20 hours a week, and having children with picky appetites can be rough. For most American families, it can be a challenge to not consider eating fast food more than once a week. The fast foodindustry has grown tremendously through the years. The one restaurant that is known all over the world for their golden arches and their big macs is McDonalds. With knowledge and personal experiences, I can say that McDonalds is by far the worst fast food restaurantin America. I believe this due to how unhealthy the food is for our bodies, the disturbing facts about the happy meals, the poor service, and the non cleanliness of the restaurant. Fast food might be easy and cheap but people do not realize how harmful the food is for their bodies. The problem is the food that is served at these types of restaurants, especially McDonalds, are high in fat, salt, processed, and can have harmful ingredients included in the food. While home cooked food takes time to plan and make people know what they are eating, that isn t the case at McDonalds: McDonald s burgers retain its fresh appearance for a very long time. This can easily fool customers who do not have a hint of this alteration in their burgers. The use of excessive preservatives is harmful for your health which McDonalds seems to overlook for gaining more and more

There are also a number of moments where unsettling music is played for a significant period of time, around 15 20 seconds, after Boudet reveals a key part of the story that in my opinion, felt awkwardly lengthy. It seems although there are indeed immigrants from other countries, that actually makes competition for resources (such as jobs) for Americans harder. Therefore, some Americans are not interested in seeing another immigrants culture. In fact, some Americans may dislike immigrants for taking resources from them. . Metaphorically, this represents Americans trying to put a lid over the melting pot, so that no races enter the pot. Only white Americans would exist inside the pot. • 20. Relationship Between Coaches And Coaches Relationships between Players and Coaches According to ESPN, 61 percent of boys and 34 percent of girls say that sports are a big part of who they are. Additionally, there are over 21 million kids between the ages of 6 and 17 that play sports (Kelley). This enormous number not only represents children playing a sport but it also represents something that each of those kids have in common: they each have a coach. There are three key things involved in every sport: the players, the competition, and the coaches. Each of these parts of the sport are important and necessary. Sports are not only a great way to exercise and keep fit, but they also teach kids a lot of important qualities that they will need to be successful for the rest of their lives. They teach them how to exercise, how to compete, how to work on a team, how to work toward a goal, and how to develop and manage relationships. No relationship, however, is more important than that between a coach and his/her player. A coach can be a player s role model and inspiration but, unfortunately, a coach can also be a player s work enemy and can ruin a sport for an athlete. Likewise, a player can either make a season enjoyable for his/her coach or can make the season miserable. I will explore the importance of the relationship between coaches and players and the effect that it can have on both parties. The relationship that a player has with his/her coach is many times underestimated in how important it truly is.

Covey talked about great habits that we need to encrypt in our daily living to be effective at work, home and as a person. He explained how the habits is based on developing our independence. The first habit he talked about was being proactive in our lives. To be proactive we need to have self awareness of our actions. We need to take responsibility for the choices we make and take responsible for those choices. Second habit is to begin with the end in mind. This is where you develop a vision of what you want to become and our conscience will decide what values will guide you and everything that you do should have an end. Third habit is to put first things first. This is where we need to have discipline to our day so we make sure that we focus on what is the most important to the least important. This is where our will power will come into effect so we don t act on our desires or impulses. Habit four is the win win thought process. This chapter is about changing your response to failure by accepting responsibility. The monkeys, at the end had no reason not to climb the pole, so none of them were accepting responsibility. The final example is showing how it takes many failures to be successful. There are two groups in a clay sculpture class. One group is graded on quantity of the clay. Contrary to what you might think, the first group made better quality clay sculptures. This demonstrates that people learn more from failing than not failing at all. Schaberg proves her point by using examples from the Gospels to depict how such a claim could have taken place. The problem that the author runs into is that with the Gospels writings, it is hard telling how to comprehend it as to whether or not Mary Magdalene is in fact a whore. Schaberg proposes that Mary Magdalene is actually an importance to early Christian faith and that the Gospels lack of Mary Magdalene being mentioned creates a cloak that claims her to be a whore in which hides the fact that she was actually loyal, courageous ... According to some sources in the Bible, it is also claimed that Mary Magdalene was the first to see Jesus after the resurrection. I feel that Schaberg is trying to point out that if Mary Magdalene was a whore, then it would be highly unlikely that Jesus would first appear before her. The last bit of evidence that Schaberg points out is that the Gospels have purposely not told us about Mary Magdalene in a more in depth description. She had been travelling with Jesus and his disciples, yet the only mentions of her are at the tomb and at the resurrection of Jesus. I feel that Mary Magdalene was purposely left out because if they built her up to be a leader or a character with absolute importance, then the males would become humiliated; plus there was no sort of gender equality back then either, so a woman was either left out of the story or considered to be inferior to

There are many interesting things hiding within the poem but there are a few specific ones I will mention. First, there are many different poetic devices used within this short poem. This includes imagery, similes, and repetition. Second, the symbol of this poem is the rosewhich is mentioned a few times throughout the poem. Third, the theme for The Wisdom Of Shelley is deception. Each of these points contributes to my understanding of the poem in its own way. There are many poetic devices used throughout The Wisdom Of Shelley . Repetition of words was the first thing that really jumped out at me. Clarke repeats the words words words words (4), and loved loved loved (15). What I believe this represents is how the character X only says empty words to what I presume is his family. If you need to repeat the word loved three times, then it starts to feel like you are only saying the words to make the other person happy. The first few lines of the poem say You come down, after / five winters, X, / bristlin with roses (1 3) and this can be taken as X has been gone for five years showing no signs of returning. He suddenly shows up with roses one day and expects all to be forgotten and forgiven. The presumed child does not want to forgive him and forget about what happened. This really sets the mood and tone for what is going to happen in the poem. Since it is

  • 35. Home Is Right For A New Home When searching for a new home, whether you are moving to a new city or simply moving to a home in the same city, there are many things to consider. The number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the neighborhood, the square footage, and many other factors need to be considered. For many people, one issue is whether a two story or a one story home is right for them. While neither plan is perfect for every family, there are advantages and disadvantages to either option. Two Story Homes One of the greatest advantages to a two story home is that you can fit a larger home on a smaller lot. This allows you to have more outdoor space or a larger home than your neighbors with one story homes, whose lot size is similar to yours. Of course, increased outdoor space or increased square footage could be a disadvantage when it comes to maintenance. Two story homes also often allow for greater privacy. In some homes, one bedroom, generally the master bedroom, is on a different level than the other bedrooms. This allows you to have a little privacy from the children. If you have an adult child or in laws living with you, the room on a separate level can also be nice to give that person or those people a little more privacy. For some families, though, having the master bedroom on a different level from the other bedrooms is not ideal. If you have a baby or toddler, you may want the child s room near yours just in case the child starts to cry at night. There may be other reasons you do not want

He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value prolonged warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is inflicted. People constantly evaluate the rewards and costs of their relationship as well as the rewards and costs of interaction with another individual. Rewards and costs can be tangible, such as money or gifts, or psychological, such as social support or intellectual stimulation (Unger amp; Johnson 604). According to Unger and Johnson, if the reward/cost balance is more favorable than that of other potential relationships, the person will remain in the relationship, if the costs outweigh the rewards and an alternative relationship with more favorable outcomes is available, the person will leave the existing relationship in favor of the alternative (604). Yet each reward and cost is different to each individual. To better understand reward and costs is to better understand each individual. The primary theorists, John Thibaut and Harold Kelley, made a list of assumptions that the Social Exchange theory is based on. This list falls into two categories; one that focuses on individuals, and one that describes the social exchange between two people (Unger amp; Johnson 604). The assumptions that the Social Exchange theory makes are about human nature and the nature of relationships. The first, as mentioned earlier, is that of reward and punishment. This shows the magnitude of the prejudice against Jews at the time in Venice. Shylock s attitude to money is one of greed. He obsesses about the amount of money he has, and seems to place it as a top priority, even above his family. He may react this way to money because he is only allowed to do one job, and therefore will gladly charge Christians high interest because of the way that they have treated him, apparently without guilt. When Shylock enters into the bond with Antonio, he agrees with Antonio to ...lend...money...not as to thy friends...but...to thine enemy, who if he break thou may with better face exact the penalty . This would explain why Shylock is so determined to receive his bond; he hates Antonio with a vengeance, and has agreed the bond over one of the most precious things in his life: his money. There are a lot of research done by Solomon Asch (1946), Bruner Taiguri (1954), Rosenberg, Nelson Vivekanathan (1968) to understand Impression Formation. According to Solomon Asch (1946) at a glance of any personan impression of his personality can instantly form. Even by looking or talking with that person a whole story about his entire character can be told. These impressions can be formed quickly and easily which can enhance or distress our opinion on a person. Our ongoing observations can t be change but we can neglect it. There has been different studies that shows that skills of impression management work effectively. It even helps in creating optimistic first impression of a person but it also cannot be true always. For example, it s not always necessary that good first impression of a student (intelligent) on the first day of school would be same, it can vary or change according to his performance in the class. The question is why there is always different character in a person. And even when they have same character what make them different from each other. According to Solomon Asch (1946) every individual have different characteristics. For example, a person can have different characteristics like he/she is intelligent, energetic, have great sense of humor, is very fast in his work, courageous, punctual and humble with his fellows. This can create an impression of that person in our mind. A combination of a person character make an impression of him/her on others. But the main question asked by Solomon Asch (1946) We ask: How do the several characteristics function together to produce an impression of one person? What principles regulate this process? According to Asch (1946) the variety and way to which one goes elsewhere form the first information given by the trait is variable but some traits have much more

Dna Damage, Repair, And Dna Methylation Essay Introduction: Modification of damaged DNA seems to be an understudied subject, there is much to understand on the restoration of DNA damage, repair and DNA methylation. Genomic DNA can be modified by methylation but much of it is affected on a gene when silenced. When epigenetic modification has been implicated with cancer and aging it causes DNA methylation to also have an impact on the double strand of DNA analysis. Modification as such provoke deteriorating changes like aging found in multicellular organisms and DNA damage may magnify biochemical pathways that regulate a cells growth or control DNA replication with DNA repair. In the article DNA Damage, Homology Directed Repair, and DNA Methylation written by Concetta Cuozzo, Antonio Porcellini, Tiziana Angrisano, et al. they hypothesize how DNA damage and gene silencing may induce a DNA double strand break within a genome as well as when DNA methylation is induced by homologous recombination that it may somewhat mark its reparation through a DNA segment and protect its cells against any unregulated gene expression that may be followed by DNA damage. The experiments used to demonstration how gene conversion can modify methylation pattern of repaired DNA and when that occurs methylation is able to silence the recombined gene. When exploring the molecular mechanisms that link DNA damage and the silencing gene then there is an induced double strand break that can be found at a specific location or DNA sequence in where the

The statistics are outrageous when it comes to the number of abandoned and neglected animals that are homeless or have to live out their lives in shelters all because owners take it upon themselves not to have their furry friends operated on. An estimated 11,000 pets in this country are euthanized daily, according to a Pet Smart Charities study that s half of the 8 million pets that land in shelters each year. Not all of these pets start out homeless. Half of U.S. pet owners who ve had a pregnant dog or cat say the pregnancy happened by accident, according to statistics from the study (NAPS).
