The Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) is a clinical tool used to assess gait, balance, and fall risk. It evaluates walking ability during both normal and more challenging tasks. The DGI consists of 8 functional walking tests that are scored on a scale of 0-3, with a total possible score of 24. Scores of 19 or lower are predictive of falls in the elderly, while scores over 22 indicate safe mobility. The DGI has shown high reliability and validity in evaluating dynamic balance in people with chronic stroke.
