Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Case Study
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also formerly known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy
(RSD), is a result of an abnormality or impairment within the central or peripheral nervous system.
There are two types of CRPS, CRPS I and CRPS II. CRPS I is often a result of tissue injuries which
do not involve nerve damage. CRPS II is the same as CRPS I but with nerve damage. Though doctors
are not positive what the cause is, however they speculate that some triggers to CRPS include damage
done to nerve fibers that carry pain signals and dilated or leaking fluid from blood vessels into
surrounding tissues (NINDS, 2015). This syndrome often affects an extremity, to include arms, legs,
hands, and/or feet. The most common symptoms which can occur are ... Show more content on

The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association (RSDSA) is currently funding five ongoing
research projects. These include a 20 year study of CRPS impact on long term health, 2½ year study
for recovery and patient priority perspectives, an international study to develop a severity score,
funding for research to provide a direction and approach to basic and clinical research, and a pilot
study at Stanford University to treat CRPS with low dose naltrexone (Charlesworth, 2015). Scientists
are studying new approaches to treat CRPS and also to help prevent it by studying cellular and
molecular changes in the sensory neurons.
With there being no cure and little treatment options, most of patients money goes into pain
management medication. So far, it has been determined that the best course of action to manage CRPS
is through medication and sometimes sympathetic nerve blocks. Financially, that is the most expensive
cost with CRPS along with any doctor s visits. Because it could cause more damage to do surgery, it is
out of the question for that to be a financial issue. CRPS is possibly one of the least expensive
conditions to have as far as treatment

Comparing The Egyptians And The Mesopotamians Essay

Comparing the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians
Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were neolithic civilizations. They both grew crops and they both
relied on agriculture and had many rulers as time went on. We start at Egypt
In 3100 B.C and Mesopotamians at 5000 B.C (1). The Nile river was a key place for the start of the
Ancient Egyptian empire. Egyptians themselves were located near lower Egypt closeby the Nile Delta.
They then slowly moved up around upper egypt. With clear fertile and rich soil, agriculture was most
efficient and made the Ancient Egyptians very rich. Mesopotamians also had their own rivers known
as the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers which were rich in soil for farming. Mesopotamians were located
around Zagros Mountains and located inside the Persian gulf. Mesopotamians were Mediterraneans.
Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were very alike. Equal rights between men and women existed in
both of the empires societies. (2). This is important because the demographics of females were not
small in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia. Also, the religion of both empires were polytheistic
(Meaning many gods ) (2). Because the gods controlled Egypt and Mesopotamia through land and
power, people dedicated a large portion of their time to the gods. An example is that temples

The Marfan Syndrome
Marfan syndrome is a genetic illness with significant morbidity and death (1). Prevalence appears to
be similar across the world, regardless of gender, and the estimate in the European countries is 1 in
10,000 (2). The average expectancy used to be 32 years, but improved surgery increase life
expectancy to approach that of the entire population (3). The level to which individuals are affected
differs and those with the syndrome tend to be tall, thin and with long legs, arms, fingers as well as
toes (4). It is important to discuss the symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of the
syndrome. Apart from this, Marfan syndrome has several symptoms. However, the most prominent
indicators affect the skeletal, cardiac, and optical systems. The entire fibrous connective can also be
affected (4). Other signs include extreme nearsightedness, an abnormally curved spine, flat feet,
excessively limbs, and extraordinary and overcrowded teeth. The central cause of the condition is a
deficiency in the gene that enables the human body to produce the fibrillin protein, which provides the
connective tissue the strength and power to support the body organ (4). Along with this, an individual
inherits the abnormal from parents who had the disorder, and the condition can occur in men and
women in all races as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Shakespeare s Soliloquies
Hamlet s Soliloquy
The purpose of a soliloquy is to outline the thoughts and feelings of a certain character at a point in the
play. It reveals the innermost beliefs of the character and offers an unbiased perspective as it is merely
the character talking to the audience, albeit not directly, and not to any other characters who may
cause the character to withhold their true opinions. Therefore, Hamlet s first soliloquy (act 1, scene 2)
is essential to the play as it highlights his inner conflict caused by the events of the play. It reveals his
true feelings and as such emphasizes the difference between his public appearance, his attitude
towards Claudius in the previous scene is less confrontational than here where he is ... Show more

Hamlet communicates that his father was a divine, almost god like character, so excellent a king , who
was so loving to my mother . He also illustrates the contrast between the new king and the old and as
such his mother s choice, Hyperion to a satyr . This example of extreme contrast increases the
importance of Hamlet s father and yet also makes a mockery of Claudius character; one which, to this
point, the audience could have seen as strong and domineering.
When Hamlet says, Frailty, thy name is woman , he is personifying frailty as the entire of the female
race. The actions of his mother have lead him to believe that all women are capable of acting in this
wicked way and that all women are weak. Alongside the image of his father that is communicated,
Hamlet is saying, and therefore feeling, that the people that he could look up to in life have departed
and that his entire world has been altered, It is not nor it cannot come to good .
The distressed nature of Hamlet s mind is also communicated well by the imagery that is used
throughout the soliloquy. At the start, Hamlet says that he wants his too solid flesh to ...melt, thaw, and
resolve itself into a dew . This goes alongside the later lines, How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable
seem to me all the uses of this world , where the build up of adjectives, one after the other, serves to

Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing electrons with four
other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds formed. These Carbon covalent
bonds are extremely strong and account for two of diamond s most prominent physical properties
among all elements, hardness and a high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the
fact that diamond is a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many
strong covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result, melting
diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Having strong covalent bonds,
diamond also has a high level of hardness due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil), as the friction
against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite to rub off onto the paper. It is
this layered structure and the weak bonding between the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of
graphite, thus, creating graphite s self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be
used at very high or low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die
extrusion lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural graphite
can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other specific works.
From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can the reason as to
why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each Carbon atom bonds to three other
Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in
each Carbon atom form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in
the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through their own Carbon
layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity. Being a good conductor of electricity
graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc
furnaces.
Due to graphite s layered structure,

Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich...
Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich or poor. In Prosperity and Violence, the Political
Economy of Development, Harvard academic Robert H. Bates gives insight on the relationship
between political order and economic growth. By analyzing the revolution of agrarian societies to
industrial societies, he argues that as these transitions occur, violence is often used to strengthen the
system of production.
In spite of Third World countries similar pre industrial history and early policies aimed at
industrializing, Third World countries have not had the same growth as most European countries.
Bates analyzes the process of development and concludes that this time period as an important
variable in a countries development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the monarch had to relinquish power to the people, it was in the monarchs advantage.
They led persuared them to buy into the monarchs desire for war and as a result the monarch received
more money from the people. Bates argues that some institutions in European states were forged by
war. The absence of this threat would prevent the new juridical states from developing parallel
institutions. In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin
based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin
networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person,
property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the
economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to,
the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private
creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were
safe. This resulted in economic growth and, therefore, tax revenue.
Another key argument Bates presents is the importance of investing to promote economic
development. Without a proficient state to control violence, people in societies will mainly focus on
consumption instead of investment. It is almost human nature to think

Should People Be Allowed To Offer Incentives Essay
There are many reasons why people participate in charitable events, one reason of which is the
incentives or rewards being offered for their deeds. In today s society, it is morally acceptable to offer
incentives in exchange for charitable events because in the long run nobody gets hurt. Offering
incentives as means for participation is an inescapable part of life in today s world, are mutually
beneficial, and can set lifelong habits, therefore, making incentives a positive effect in society.
Within society today, incentives are being offered in many different forms. They can be offered by the
government in form of a tax write off, schools by points towards a grade, or parents through candy. In
any case, incentives are being offered already and charities have every right to use ... Show more

Since people are reward driven, when an incentive is being offered for helping someone else, they are
more likely to do that deed. For example, if a school was offering a can food drive and in exchange for
one can of food a student obtained one point on a test. Students would take advantage of the
opportunity to help others while also helping themselves. The food bank will be benefited by
receiving more cans, and the students will get points added to a test while becoming aware of the
hunger around them. Incentives offer an extra push for people to give to charities because some people
are materialistic and do not know the emotional reward that comes with helping others out of the
goodness of their heart. When both sides are benefited there is no harm done resulting in a win win
situation. However, the ethical argument that offering incentives corrupts altruism is not practical in
today s world. It is not reasonable because charities need donations in any way possible and if they
decide the only practicable way to meet their goals is to offer incentives than it is morally

John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay
In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third
meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the
individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and no
two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s
assumption crumbles. All photographs communicate one absolute truth.
Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective within
a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth, however, is
beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph becomes
ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and weather
captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph. Berger does
not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes landscapes because
they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or weather of a landscape, but
the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to apply meaning to landscapes is
that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and psychology to create a mythical truth, or a
personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal and singular, thus escaping Berger s
imagination.
If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the
meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph?
Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph;
thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph
must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed
Berger any room for a personal reading.

Cultural Heritage Of The French Tourism
Tourism in France is an important activity, both for the French who choose to spend their holidays,
and foreigners who come to stay. Thus, since 1990, France became the first tourist destination in the
world. The tourist attraction of France is due to the large number and wide variety of points of interest,
diversity of landscapes, the rich cultural and artistic heritage, the temperate climate and ease of access
and transport infrastructure, but also the important equipment in the country and varied reception
facilities (hotels, amusement parks...). Thus, each department is a French tourist department with
several points of interest. France has a rich well known cultural heritage, favored by many sites listed
as World Heritage of UNESCO. The French tourism has many different facets and positive economic
impacts and France makes every effort to maintain the liveliness of this important asset. The history of
tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in Hyeres, becoming a common winter

Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the time, created the first tourism office, with the
desire to promote those places that must be contemplated and visited by many. The intellectual vision
that covers his entourage will then change since we will be more aware of our surroundings. We

The Current State Of Health Care System Essay
Introduction The current state of United States health care system is one of the most polarizing
subjects of debate among scholars and other health care professionals across the globe. This can be
attributed to the fact that at one extreme end, there are some who argue that that Americans have the
best system of health care in the world (MePhee, 2013). Perhaps the availability of the state of the art
facilities and free medical technology that have become highly symbolic of the various industries in
the United States have motivated the idea of the country s health care system being unparalleled to
others. However, there is a common belief that the fight for universal health care can only be
successful if its current state of health care is described as a failure in the modern era as emphasized
by MePhee (2013). As a matter of fact Wise and Yashiro, 2006 assert that there some individuals who
describe the America s system as being fragmented and inefficient, considering the staggering
statistics regarding how Americans spend more on health care compared to other countries in the
world. Additionally, they suffer from massive insurance costs and uneven quality of care, and thus
understanding the debate about the two diametrically opposed viewpoints requires an in depth
understanding of the current health care issues in the United States (Rashidian, Joudaki, Vian,
Baradaran, 2012). Essentially, this paper will identify one common health care issue, particularly

Sherry Turkle s Analysis
We cannot all write like Lincoln or Shakespeare, but even the least gifted among of us has this
incredible instrument, our voice, to communicate the range of human emotion. Why would we deprive
ourselves of that? (Sherry Turkle). Before there was ever technology, the average human would go out
and interact with each other rather than being connected digitally at the park. According to a research
database, for every 100 people, 96 of them own a cellular device in which they use. As the years go by
people walk from place to place with their heads face down towards their phone for the sensation of a
ring from another individual. Turkle was once optimistic about the improvement that would come

With a text. . . I can answer on my own time. I can respond. I can ignore it. So it really works with my
mood. I m not bound to anything, no commitment. . . I have control over the conversation and also
more control over what I say. (Audrey 377). Where this is wrong is that people think if they should
respond or not. They have this frame of mind where they can ignore it and hold it off for later. It gives
the interpretation that people think they re able to control every aspect of the world but when reality
hits them, they re so delicate and weak. It is ridiculous how the average person goes to their device
because of a sense of vulnerability. Sherry Turkle adds to the argument by saying I see a vulnerability
in this generation, so quick to say, Please don t call. (Turkle 385). My point is this: emails and text
messages feel emotionless as you can take your time with them, and respond at a later time to think of
what you want to say taking away the presently feel an interaction would. However, that isn t
something that someone can do in real life. Phone calls have become our second option if not last
while texting or emailing, is our go to choice of communication due to the fact that it minimizes the
feeling that a phone call would give to another. Indeed it s a slippery slope because when it comes to
technology like this, we re not aware of our surroundings leaving the most important things like our
loved ones. Humans need to keep a good relation with each other personally rather than doing it from
a text message. We have been given a gift with technology, and it s time for people to learn that they
must take responsibility when it comes to this ease of access, or it can take over the human mind and
the way we interact with each other. There are many things that are deteriorating the way we interact

Compare And Contrast Sancho Panza And Don Quixote
The dynamic of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza is one of the ways Cervantes entices his readers. He
creates a stark contrast between these two characters right off the bat and creates a rapport that leaves
readers laughing. He establishes the contrast in stature and mental state and creates two characters
that, in time, learn to love and complement each other greatly.
Don Quixote is a character who read so many books on chivalry, he was so absorbed in these books
that his nights were spent reading from dusk till dawn...until the lack of sleep and the excess of
reading withered his brain, and he went mad (Cervantes p.26). considering it desirable and necessary,

bedclothes, and injustices. While Don Quixote represents illusion and imagination, Sancho Panza
represents reality. They complement each other in a dualistic way. They foil each other in such a way
that they might be seen as two halves of a whole. They represent a person who needs to have

drunken euphoria. The thick aroma of cigarette smoke and sweat lingers in the balmy summer air as
dazed Berliners saunter side by side, their raucous voices drowned out by the steady bass beat of
nearby discotheques. For more than a decade Berlin has been synonymous with the idea of a city that
never sleeps with its concrete corridors ever shifting to the beat of its own drum. However in the
recent years, Berlin s cultural scene has begun to branch off from this history of debauchery as
inhabitants of the city have begun to innovate and modernize in ways radically different from its
conventional past. Originally Germany was a nation founded in the economic viability of perfecting
and improving the technology and services of their predecessors. For much of their economic history,
this policy has proved to be extremely cost effective, as Germany has quickly risen to the top of the
European Union with a steady and contained growth rate. However with the mounting rise of
globalization, Germany has begun to find itself at an economic crossroads of sorts, as their methods of
layered improvement on existing technologies can longer compete with the long term effectiveness of
pure technical innovation abroad. As a result, this has led to birth of a nascent startup culture within
the heart

Magna Carta Magna Carta, or The Great Charter , was issued by King John of England as an answer
to the political crisis he faced in 1215, Magna Carta made it so that by principle that everybody, even
the king, was subject to the law. The Magna Carta influenced the Constitution in a variety of ways.

What were his views on governmental structure?
Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin is one of the more important figures in American history. He
was one of the Founding Fathers and was also the oldest person to sign the Declaration of
Independence. He is also known as the Father of Electricity because of his many experiments with
electricity as well as his other inventions which include: the lightning rod and the stove. Franklin was
for small government, and little government intervention into our daily lives. He played a key role in
urging compromise, most notably over the issue of representation. He had originally urged for a
unicameral legislature.
Alexander Hamilton Alexander Hamilton is also one of the Founding Fathers with major significance.
He was the leader of the Federalist party. He established a national bank, and he was the first
Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton set the foundation for the financial system in this country. The
best way to describe Hamilton s views on the government is to say that they were the opposite of
Thomas Jefferson s. Hamilton favored a strong central or national government and favored a tariff
system that would help manufacturers who were both northern and urban. Hamilton s views were

Tequila Research Paper
Tequila was actually first known as Mezcal wine but in order to distinguish between the different
Mezcal wines in south mexico, it was named tequila because this particular wine came from Tequila,
Jalisco. This regional Mezcal wine known as tequila was made from the Blue Agave Plant
surrounding the city of Tequila. These plants could also be found northwest of the Guadalajara and in
the highlands of Los Altos. Shortly after tequila became its official name, Mexico began mass
producing and exporting bottles of tequila to the United States via El Paso, Texas and New Mexico.
Then in 1911, due to the Mexican Revolution and an increased sense of patriotism, tequila became the
most popular drink in Mexico. Doctors even began prescribing Tequila, ... Show more content on

It starts with the trimming of quiotes, or stalks, from the center of the plant then the leaves from the
piña (the succulent core of the plant) are cut away. After being harvested, the leaves are slowly baked
to turn the fructans into fructose. Then those leaves are either shredded or mashed under a large stone
wheel and the extracted agave juice is then poured into large wooden or stainless steel vats for several
days to ferment, producing what is called a wort, or mosto, with low alcohol content. Then it can be
distilled twice; the first time it is distilled it produces what is called ordinario, and the second time
produces a clear silver tequila. The silver tequila can be bottled right away or pumped into wooden
barrels to age and develop a more mellow flavor and amber color. The flavor of the tequila will either
be sweeter and fruitier tasting or earthy depending on if the leaves were harvested from the highlands
or lowlands, respectively. The barrels are usually made from white oak originating from the US,
Canada, or France. Some companies char the barrels before aging the tequila to infuse a smoky flavor,
while others reuse barrels that were used for other liquors such as whiskey or wine. After being aged
in the barrels for at least a year, it is then transferred into stainless steel vats to

Edward Teach s Early Life
Edward Teach, who was most commonly known as Blackbeard, was one of the most devilish and most
notorious pirate ever known. Teach was only a pirate for about two years, but he still got the label. It
wasn t just his travels or treasure that made him one of the most famous pirates, but his looks played a
huge part. Blackbeard s few adventures, and crazy punishments are just a few things that made him
the infamous Blackbeard historians know today. Teach s early life is mostly unknown, and his year of
birth isn t completely known. Researchers think he was born in the early 1680 s, or 1680 itself in
Bristol or Jamaica. Blackbeard died in 1718, right at the end of the Gold Age of Piracy. What
happened before he started pirating in 1701 hasn t been discovered yet. There weren t any journal
writings, or stories of what he did in his early life. In 1701 Blackbeard became a pirateer, which is an

He mostly went around taking over and capturing ships to make deals with others. Teach wouldn t go
around stealing gold, then hide it on a remote island. One of the things he was actually involved in
was the Charleston Blockade. There he, along with some other pirates, blockaded the harbor. There
were many ships that wanted to leave, and the pirates attacked all of them. Any ship wanting exist or
entry in that area was not allowed to get their wish. During this time Blackbeard took some crew
members and held them as prisoners. He would have a landing party, and again trade them for medical
supplies to treat his crew. Ones who didn t listen were seized for ransom. Edward Teach was also a
part of the Spanish Succession from 1701 to to 1713. During this time he would rob ships in the New
Providence area. He captured ships containing cargo of flour, wine, and gold. When he was done with
the Spanish Succession he went a few years with assorted options, and then he became the monstrous,

The Use Of Film Techniques In The Film Industry
So you ve finally decided to follow your heart and are ready to take the movie industry by the scruff of
the neck. You ve saved up on some cash and have that burning desire urging you on and fueling your
being. However, just as you take that first step, a harsh reality dawns; you haven t got a clue on where
to start in terms of film equipment. So what does your average filmmaker need for proper shooting?
Well, let s find out; here s a look at the essential equipment for filmmaking:
1) HD Camera
Arguably the most important weapon in the artillery of any filmmaker, a good camera is of the essence
and can mean the difference between a scrappy movie and a word class success. So what does a good
camera look like? Well, there are quite a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For light modifiers, go for diffusers, reflectors and bounce cards.
4) Monopod or tripod?
While a tripod makes a great support solution where shooting is centralized, a monopod is a better
alternative especially if you re just starting out and don t have more than one camera to spare. They
enhance portability a great deal compared to their three legged counterparts. The Benro A48FD Series
4 is an excellent option at $ 89.
5) Viewfinder
The Hoodman Compact HoodLoupe is one great example of the best affordable viewfinders the
market has to offer. This collapsible viewfinder comes in handy on those occasions when your camera
s LCD screen is obstructed by too much light.
It offers a perfect companion for the Canon brand and aside from providing anti glare duties, the
HoodLoupe maximizes the visible shooting field and is extremely portable. Its market value ranges
between $ 70 and $ 100.
6) Microphones
Now that we ve got our video sorted out let s now turn our attention to the audio part. And first up is
one of the most popular microphones in the business: the $ 90 priced Rode VideoMic Go. This boom

The Sandwich Generation Essay
Amy Tan begins by announcing, I am not a scholar of English...I cannot give you much more than
personal opinions on the English language and its variations in this country and others. How does this
opening set up your expectations for the rest of the essay? Why do you think she chose to begin by
denying her own authority?
The introduction Tan decided to use presents the reader with a strong sense of the kind of individual
she is. By saying I am not a scholar of English , Tan is revealing how humble she is. Amy Tan has
written many novels and essays (some of which have been nationally recognized). Yet, she starts off
her essay by stating that this is just a product of her opinion and that it is in no way superior to any
others opinion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a writer, this exposure to all of these Englishes has affected her greatly. She no longer focuses on
writing to the readers who can understand English perfectly. Tan s understanding of the multifaceted
Englishes present in our nation allow her to get her message across to a larger audience.
How does writing for a literary audience affect the language Tan primarily uses in the essay? What
kind of English do you think she believes her audience speaks? Why? Support your answer with
quotations from the text. Tan is aware that the literary audience will have a higher expectation of her
writing. Therefore, she does not write in the manner in which her mother would speak ( broken
English ). However, throughout her essay, any reader, whether an English scholar or student would
easily be able to understand what Tan is trying to convey through her writing. In her essay Tan states:
Fortunately, for reasons I won t get into today, I later decided I should envision a reader for the stories
I would write. And the reader I decided upon was my mother. Tan s writing fully expresses the nature
of her thoughts and

Deviance In Psychology
Entry 7
Drugs were not acceptable for cool girls. Drugs however, were acceptable and even encouraged for
boys. I know one female who smoked pot, all the other cool females ostracized her, called her a
druggie . I know one guy who refused to try pot, and the cool guys called him a wuss (that means
wimp), and didn t ask him out to party anymore (pg 145).
The limit of what is socially acceptable for each gender to participate in seems to not exist for males,
however for females, reaching this point does not require much deviance. Deviance is defined as any
violation of norms. It is clear that the use of drugs is very gender specific, and if identify as other than
a male, informal sanctions are certain to occur from peers and parents. On ... Show more content on

This is the feeling of disorientation upon venturing into a very different and unknown culture. The
difference between locations is referred to as cultural variation. This term relates to behaviors such as
ethnocentric attitudes, xenocentrism, and cultural relativism among others. The sight of the seemingly
countless designer possessions most peers owned in the same state where she resides showed how
drastically different two cultures can be within a distance of a few miles. Her shock was the product of
being exposed to two opposing cultures in a state she previously believed was culturally very similar
throughout. As a toddler, I made a similar move from the city of Chicago to Deerfield, and while I
have no memory of the cultural transition, upon inquiring my parents, the differences were vaguely
similar to the specific one s the girl in the passage noticed. Reasoning for as to why the girl felt more
poor within the suburbs as compared to the city can be explained by relative poverty. This means what
is considered to be the poverty line or poor in one area may differ from the poverty line within another
area. Essentially, the area one lives is is generally relative to resources accessible to them, which is
relative to their social class/stratification. While the family of the girl may have been a middle or
upper middle class family within the city, her social class significantly dropped once

Don Cortez Research Paper
We have taken the city of Tenochtitlan on August thirteenth year of our lord 1521. Many people died
in the siege because of the long hard fought battle. The city is nearly destroyed from Don Cortez s
soldiers that came in and took all the spoils from the Indians. The Emperor was sent his spoils of a
fifth of the treasures, which I am sure he will be glad to receive. There is however some reluctance of
the men here after this battle. Don Cortez acts as if he runs this entire continent now. The allegations
Velazquez has sent through Bishop Juan Rodriguez de Fonseca have reached our shores and his fears
that Don Cortez wishes to rule this land. For me it is becoming more and more apparent that these
allegations may in fact be true, but

Essay about Crime in Latin America
Prisons for a long time have been a gateway to try to save society, when the only thing that it s doing
is hurting the social order because it s creating more problems that are not being treated from the
beginning. Crime has become a big problem during these hard times with the poor economy, but it has
especially affected Latin America because of all the problems that overcrowded prisons have brought
forward. In Latin America Brazil and Mexico are the two largest countries that have been affected
with having the highest percentage of crimes, inmates in prisons, and concerns with overcrowded
prisons. And these increase with the high crime rates in Latin America that are rising due to drug
trafficking wars in Brazil and Mexico. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this tends to not be possible because Brazil and Mexico are having troubles trying to sustain their
facilities. For example, in Brazil President Fernando Henrique Cardoso secured that he would increase
federal funding from $4.5 million to $33 million by 2001 so that Brazilian prisons can use it to build
more facilities. No matter what was promised many still doubt that this money for prisons will solve
them 2 main concerns that Brazil faces which is overcrowded prisons and corruption. As in now, there
are about 200,000 inmates in a system built to hold fewer than half that number. This is a clear
example of that issues that they have to work with in the country (BBC News).
Moreover, there are not details about a budget or the funding they receive in the Mexican prisons. The
only information available is that they spend about 130 pesos per day to care for 1 of the 210,000
inmates. This converts to 27 million pesos spent daily and about 9.93 billion pesos per year (Suverza
1). Plus, it s about 6.56 million pesos per day just to make sure they get fed and clothed. And the
documents say this misuse of funds directly affects by authorities to fight crime. The lack of security
is due to a lack of resources for the anticipation and prevention of acts by criminal organizations, and
poor funding for investigation and efficiently processing the most serious of crimes (Suverza

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the
genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my
personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as
well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will
look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the
performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at
The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a
Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what
to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty
people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in
front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of
baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to

Abortion is Murder Essay example
The battle over abortion began with the case of Roe versus Wade on January 22, 1973. This conflict
has quickly become one of the most predominant matters of society. By analyzing philosophical
theories, biological facts, and psychological affects of abortion, one is able to conclude that abortion is
murder. Through education and awareness programs, abortion can be acknowledged as immoral and
unethical, thus preventing such crimes from being committed. This process of education starts with
the recent history of the battle over abortion in our country. Roe versus Wade began an entire series of
major events that relate to abortion. Many of these events have swayed the public view on abortion
towards both the pro life and pro choice sides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many opinions that coincide with the argument about whether or not abortion is murder. A
common factor that many people consider when deciding their viewpoint is to determine whether or
not they believe unborn children classify as living beings. The first step of this process is to define the
meaning of personhood. Pro lifers agree that personhood begins at the moment of conception;
however, the majority of those with a pro choice viewpoint would argue that this is not the case. The
pro choice population breaks down personhood into three categories: human life, human being, and
human person.
According to their definitions, a child has human life when he or she develops tissue, and is
considered to be a human being once he or she is born. Also according to this system of classification,
human person is obtained with the development of personality and feelings. Therefore the common
pro life belief is that life begins at the moment of conception, as opposed to the common pro choice
belief that conception is merely the forming of a zygote and human personhood develops over time,
but not before birth. Both of these opinions are defendable and so we must look for scientific evidence
in order to determine which opinion is most accurate.
Observing philosophical views of abortion may be

  • 2. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Case Study Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also formerly known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), is a result of an abnormality or impairment within the central or peripheral nervous system. There are two types of CRPS, CRPS I and CRPS II. CRPS I is often a result of tissue injuries which do not involve nerve damage. CRPS II is the same as CRPS I but with nerve damage. Though doctors are not positive what the cause is, however they speculate that some triggers to CRPS include damage done to nerve fibers that carry pain signals and dilated or leaking fluid from blood vessels into surrounding tissues (NINDS, 2015). This syndrome often affects an extremity, to include arms, legs, hands, and/or feet. The most common symptoms which can occur are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association (RSDSA) is currently funding five ongoing research projects. These include a 20 year study of CRPS impact on long term health, 2½ year study for recovery and patient priority perspectives, an international study to develop a severity score, funding for research to provide a direction and approach to basic and clinical research, and a pilot study at Stanford University to treat CRPS with low dose naltrexone (Charlesworth, 2015). Scientists are studying new approaches to treat CRPS and also to help prevent it by studying cellular and molecular changes in the sensory neurons. With there being no cure and little treatment options, most of patients money goes into pain management medication. So far, it has been determined that the best course of action to manage CRPS is through medication and sometimes sympathetic nerve blocks. Financially, that is the most expensive cost with CRPS along with any doctor s visits. Because it could cause more damage to do surgery, it is out of the question for that to be a financial issue. CRPS is possibly one of the least expensive conditions to have as far as treatment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing The Egyptians And The Mesopotamians Essay Issa Hawa Hawa 1 Teacher Ms. Smith Pre AP World History Oct 6, 2016 Comparing the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were neolithic civilizations. They both grew crops and they both relied on agriculture and had many rulers as time went on. We start at Egypt In 3100 B.C and Mesopotamians at 5000 B.C (1). The Nile river was a key place for the start of the Ancient Egyptian empire. Egyptians themselves were located near lower Egypt closeby the Nile Delta. They then slowly moved up around upper egypt. With clear fertile and rich soil, agriculture was most efficient and made the Ancient Egyptians very rich. Mesopotamians also had their own rivers known as the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers which were rich in soil for farming. Mesopotamians were located around Zagros Mountains and located inside the Persian gulf. Mesopotamians were Mediterraneans. Egyptians and the Mesopotamians were very alike. Equal rights between men and women existed in both of the empires societies. (2). This is important because the demographics of females were not small in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia. Also, the religion of both empires were polytheistic (Meaning many gods ) (2). Because the gods controlled Egypt and Mesopotamia through land and power, people dedicated a large portion of their time to the gods. An example is that temples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Marfan Syndrome Marfan syndrome is a genetic illness with significant morbidity and death (1). Prevalence appears to be similar across the world, regardless of gender, and the estimate in the European countries is 1 in 10,000 (2). The average expectancy used to be 32 years, but improved surgery increase life expectancy to approach that of the entire population (3). The level to which individuals are affected differs and those with the syndrome tend to be tall, thin and with long legs, arms, fingers as well as toes (4). It is important to discuss the symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of the syndrome. Apart from this, Marfan syndrome has several symptoms. However, the most prominent indicators affect the skeletal, cardiac, and optical systems. The entire fibrous connective can also be affected (4). Other signs include extreme nearsightedness, an abnormally curved spine, flat feet, excessively limbs, and extraordinary and overcrowded teeth. The central cause of the condition is a deficiency in the gene that enables the human body to produce the fibrillin protein, which provides the connective tissue the strength and power to support the body organ (4). Along with this, an individual inherits the abnormal from parents who had the disorder, and the condition can occur in men and women in all races as well as ... • 5. Essay on Shakespeare s Soliloquies Hamlet s Soliloquy The purpose of a soliloquy is to outline the thoughts and feelings of a certain character at a point in the play. It reveals the innermost beliefs of the character and offers an unbiased perspective as it is merely the character talking to the audience, albeit not directly, and not to any other characters who may cause the character to withhold their true opinions. Therefore, Hamlet s first soliloquy (act 1, scene 2) is essential to the play as it highlights his inner conflict caused by the events of the play. It reveals his true feelings and as such emphasizes the difference between his public appearance, his attitude towards Claudius in the previous scene is less confrontational than here where he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamlet communicates that his father was a divine, almost god like character, so excellent a king , who was so loving to my mother . He also illustrates the contrast between the new king and the old and as such his mother s choice, Hyperion to a satyr . This example of extreme contrast increases the importance of Hamlet s father and yet also makes a mockery of Claudius character; one which, to this point, the audience could have seen as strong and domineering. When Hamlet says, Frailty, thy name is woman , he is personifying frailty as the entire of the female race. The actions of his mother have lead him to believe that all women are capable of acting in this wicked way and that all women are weak. Alongside the image of his father that is communicated, Hamlet is saying, and therefore feeling, that the people that he could look up to in life have departed and that his entire world has been altered, It is not nor it cannot come to good . The distressed nature of Hamlet s mind is also communicated well by the imagery that is used throughout the soliloquy. At the start, Hamlet says that he wants his too solid flesh to ...melt, thaw, and resolve itself into a dew . This goes alongside the later lines, How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world , where the build up of adjectives, one after the other, serves to highlight ... Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result, melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Having strong covalent bonds, diamond also has a high level of hardness due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil), as the friction against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite to rub off onto the paper. It is this layered structure and the weak bonding between the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of graphite, thus, creating graphite s self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural graphite can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other specific works. From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can the reason as to why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each Carbon atom bonds to three other Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in each Carbon atom form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through their own Carbon layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity. Being a good conductor of electricity graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc furnaces. Due to graphite s layered structure, ... • 8. Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich... Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich or poor. In Prosperity and Violence, the Political Economy of Development, Harvard academic Robert H. Bates gives insight on the relationship between political order and economic growth. By analyzing the revolution of agrarian societies to industrial societies, he argues that as these transitions occur, violence is often used to strengthen the system of production. In spite of Third World countries similar pre industrial history and early policies aimed at industrializing, Third World countries have not had the same growth as most European countries. Bates analyzes the process of development and concludes that this time period as an important variable in a countries development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the monarch had to relinquish power to the people, it was in the monarchs advantage. They led persuared them to buy into the monarchs desire for war and as a result the monarch received more money from the people. Bates argues that some institutions in European states were forged by war. The absence of this threat would prevent the new juridical states from developing parallel institutions. In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person, property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to, the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were safe. This resulted in economic growth and, therefore, tax revenue. Another key argument Bates presents is the importance of investing to promote economic development. Without a proficient state to control violence, people in societies will mainly focus on consumption instead of investment. It is almost human nature to think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Should People Be Allowed To Offer Incentives Essay There are many reasons why people participate in charitable events, one reason of which is the incentives or rewards being offered for their deeds. In today s society, it is morally acceptable to offer incentives in exchange for charitable events because in the long run nobody gets hurt. Offering incentives as means for participation is an inescapable part of life in today s world, are mutually beneficial, and can set lifelong habits, therefore, making incentives a positive effect in society. Within society today, incentives are being offered in many different forms. They can be offered by the government in form of a tax write off, schools by points towards a grade, or parents through candy. In any case, incentives are being offered already and charities have every right to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since people are reward driven, when an incentive is being offered for helping someone else, they are more likely to do that deed. For example, if a school was offering a can food drive and in exchange for one can of food a student obtained one point on a test. Students would take advantage of the opportunity to help others while also helping themselves. The food bank will be benefited by receiving more cans, and the students will get points added to a test while becoming aware of the hunger around them. Incentives offer an extra push for people to give to charities because some people are materialistic and do not know the emotional reward that comes with helping others out of the goodness of their heart. When both sides are benefited there is no harm done resulting in a win win situation. However, the ethical argument that offering incentives corrupts altruism is not practical in today s world. It is not reasonable because charities need donations in any way possible and if they decide the only practicable way to meet their goals is to offer incentives than it is morally ... • 10. John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and no two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s assumption crumbles. All photographs communicate one absolute truth. Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective within a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth, however, is beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph becomes ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and weather captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph. Berger does not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes landscapes because they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or weather of a landscape, but the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to apply meaning to landscapes is that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and psychology to create a mythical truth, or a personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal and singular, thus escaping Berger s imagination. If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph? Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph; thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed Berger any room for a personal reading. The history of tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in Hyeres, becoming a common winter resort renowned among UK thanks to its relatively mild Mediterranean climate. In 1910 Alexandre Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the time, created the first tourism office, with the desire to promote those places that must be contemplated and visited by many. • 15. The Current State Of Health Care System Essay Introduction The current state of United States health care system is one of the most polarizing subjects of debate among scholars and other health care professionals across the globe. This can be attributed to the fact that at one extreme end, there are some who argue that that Americans have the best system of health care in the world (MePhee, 2013). Perhaps the availability of the state of the art facilities and free medical technology that have become highly symbolic of the various industries in the United States have motivated the idea of the country s health care system being unparalleled to others. However, there is a common belief that the fight for universal health care can only be successful if its current state of health care is described as a failure in the modern era as emphasized by MePhee (2013). As a matter of fact Wise and Yashiro, 2006 assert that there some individuals who describe the America s system as being fragmented and inefficient, considering the staggering statistics regarding how Americans spend more on health care compared to other countries in the world. Additionally, they suffer from massive insurance costs and uneven quality of care, and thus understanding the debate about the two diametrically opposed viewpoints requires an in depth understanding of the current health care issues in the United States (Rashidian, Joudaki, Vian, Baradaran, 2012). Sherry Turkle s Analysis We cannot all write like Lincoln or Shakespeare, but even the least gifted among of us has this incredible instrument, our voice, to communicate the range of human emotion. Why would we deprive ourselves of that? (Sherry Turkle). Before there was ever technology, the average human would go out and interact with each other rather than being connected digitally at the park. According to a research database, for every 100 people, 96 of them own a cellular device in which they use. As the years go by people walk from place to place with their heads face down towards their phone for the sensation of a ring from another individual. I can answer on my own time. I can respond. I can ignore it. So it really works with my mood. I m not bound to anything, no commitment. . . I have control over the conversation and also more control over what I say. (Audrey 377). Where this is wrong is that people think if they should respond or not. They have this frame of mind where they can ignore it and hold it off for later. It gives the interpretation that people think they re able to control every aspect of the world but when reality hits them, they re so delicate and weak. It is ridiculous how the average person goes to their device because of a sense of vulnerability. Sherry Turkle adds to the argument by saying I see a vulnerability in this generation, so quick to say, Please don t call. (Turkle 385). My point is this: emails and text messages feel emotionless as you can take your time with them, and respond at a later time to think of what you want to say taking away the presently feel an interaction would. However, that isn t something that someone can do in real life. Phone calls have become our second option if not last while texting or emailing, is our go to choice of communication due to the fact that it minimizes the feeling that a phone call would give to another. Indeed it s a slippery slope because when it comes to technology like this, we re not aware of our surroundings leaving the most important things like our loved ones. Humans need to keep a good relation with each other personally rather than doing it from a text message. We have been given a gift with technology, and it s time for people to learn that they must take responsibility when it comes to this ease of access, or it can take over the human mind and the way we interact with each other. For more than a decade Berlin has been synonymous with the idea of a city that never sleeps with its concrete corridors ever shifting to the beat of its own drum. However in the recent years, Berlin s cultural scene has begun to branch off from this history of debauchery as inhabitants of the city have begun to innovate and modernize in ways radically different from its conventional past. Originally Germany was a nation founded in the economic viability of perfecting and improving the technology and services of their predecessors. For much of their economic history, this policy has proved to be extremely cost effective, as Germany has quickly risen to the top of the European Union with a steady and contained growth rate. However with the mounting rise of globalization, Germany has begun to find itself at an economic crossroads of sorts, as their methods of layered improvement on existing technologies can longer compete with the long term effectiveness of pure technical innovation abroad.
