The Anatomy Of Corporate Fraud Essay
Article Critique #1 The first article researched was The Anatomy of Corporate Fraud: A comparative
Analysis of High Profile American and European Corporate Scandals. The abstract discusses the
analysis conducted on the three major American accounting scandals; Enron, WorldCom, and
HealthSouth, and compares to the three major European accounting scandals; Parmalat, Royal Ahold,
and Vivendi Universal. Bahram Soltani (2014), also discusses within the abstract the different areas
reviewed regarding why the accounting scandals occurred; ethical climate, tone at the top, bubble
economy and market control, fraudulent financial reporting, accountability, control, auditing,
governance, and management compensation (p. 251). Between 2001 and 2003 there were several
corporate accounting scandals that occurred that took the world by surprise. A lot of investors lost a lot
of money and several employees lost their jobs. These accounting scandals occurred due to
management misconduct, fraud, and scams that occurred within these companies. Within the United
States, the big cases typically viewed are the Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth cases, however, it is
forgotten that Europe experienced a similar situation with Parmalat, Royal Ahold, and Vivendi
Universal. Soltani (2014), discusses the importance of understanding the motivation and causes of
financial corporate scandals. Soltani (2014) notes three research questions associated with this article:

The Importance Of Chemical Weapons
The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) defines chemical weapons as Any toxic chemical or its
precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its
chemical action (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, n.d.). Chemical weapons
have been around for a long time since ancient times, in fact some chemical weapons such as chlorine
were frequently used during World War I (War of nerves, 2006) (Pitschmann, 2014). Over the years
with the increase of industrialization and the advancements in technology chemical weapons have
become easier to make, since the materials needed to make chemical weapons are now more
accessible to the public and industries (War of nerves, 2006). This not only has allowed some states to
improve their chemical warfare programs, but it has also increased the proliferation and it has allowed
terrorists to be able to developed chemical weapons and conduct successful chemical terrorists attacks
(War of nerves, 2006). Chlorine can be obtained easily and a chemical attack using chlorine can have
serious consequences because it could affect many people (Pitschmann, 2014). It is important to
recognize that the chemical weapons that are usually employed by terrorist organizations are not as
developed as the warfare chemical weapons that are developed by nation states (Pitschmann, 2014).
Due to the lack of expertise, resources, infrastructure, and ineffective delivery methods, chemical

A Human Papillomavirus Vaccine
asil: A human papillomavirus vaccine
[GENERAL INTRODUCTION] The modern world is considerably lucky in the fact that vaccinations
have been created and made readily available thanks to Edward Jenner and his development of the
first vaccine for smallpox in 1796. Since the 18th century, there have been about fifty different
vaccines created to protect humans against bacterial and viral diseases. A vaccine is a substance that
can be administered through needle injections, by mouth, or by aerosol to stimulate the production of
antibodies and supply immunity against one or a few diseases. The vaccine is prepared from the
causative agent of a disease and is used to act as an antigen without activating the disease. There are
many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vaccinations to an individual are extremely beneficial, but there are many individuals who do not
believe in vaccines, too. This is when the vaccine herd effect becomes a vital role in vulnerable
populations at a high risk for obtaining infection. The vaccine herd effect, refers to the indirect
protection of unvaccinated persons, whereby an increase in the prevalence of immunity by the vaccine
prevents circulation of infectious agents in susceptible populations. (Kim, et al. 2011) The herd effect
has been a major reason for the abolition of smallpox and the protection against influenza and
pneumococcal disease since the vaccinated individuals have spread the vaccine benefits to
unvaccinated people. Early vaccinations were primarily attenuated or inactivated, but over time and
with advancements in immunology, biochemistry, and molecule biology, there have been new
strategies implemented in the development of vaccines. An article in the Brazilian Journal of Medical
and Biological Research discusses the use of recombinant proteins which allows the targeting of
immune responses focused against protective antigens. There are, a variety of expression systems with
different advantages, allowing the production of large quantities of proteins depending on the required
characteristics. Live recombinant bacteria or viral vectors effectively stimulate the immune system as
in natural infections and have intrinsic adjuvant properties. (Nascimento and Leite, 2012). The

The Key Role Of The Commercial Rating Agencies
The pivotal role that the three large US credit rating agencies Moody s, Standard Poor s (S P) and
Fitch played in the recent subprime mortgage lending and the following financial crisis has led to
extended regulation of these agencies and requires significantly more regulation. Credit rating
agencies and the ratings they supply are critical information resource for investors. An error in the
credit rating process has a huge impact on buyers and sellers of credit. It also affects the overall
performance of the financial markets.
Oligopoly of the credit rating agencies
The rating industry is known as an oligopoly, because there are only three significant credit agencies
in the US Moody s, Standard Poor s (S P) and Fitch. In an industry run by oligopoly, perfect
competition does not exist. Because each company has a large market share, they are said to have
market power, a situation where one or more of the participants is able to set the price or other
outcomes in some general or specialized market. The oligopolists have the ability to dictate the
market. In oligopolistic market one company may fear that if the other company rises price, rivals will
refuse to reciprocate and will take a substantial amount of its customers, leading to the firm s large
drop in sales. Since the transactors in bond markets are mostly institutional bond managers, financial
institutions should have the ability to receive the bond creditworthiness information from a broader

effects in health of people. For example it can lead to premature deaths and pollutants are the major
causes for ninety percent of the respiratory diseases, and when these diseases become intense they give
rise to the formation of cancer cells.Pollution indirectly affects the growth development rate of the

Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis
Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a fifteen
year old boy in which he refers to himself as South on the ridge on Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1).
Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a walk one day
during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running. He picks up the
motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle, he admired it very
much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him, he saw the owner of
the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the owner up, then realizing that
he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stafford s idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. South of the bridge of
Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the roads,
while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old boy, as many
can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial opening line, stating that
he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to crossing the bridge to being seventeen. Following
after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a motorcycle on the side of the road with the
engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. I
admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed where it lay (Stafford
Line 6 8). He became particularly attracted to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a
friend. The overall theme clarify s the aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event
in the poem shows his still younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only
fifteen. The line I was fifteen was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers

Jimmy Santiago Baca Human Rights Violation
Human rights are one of the most important things a person can own in life. Human rights
describe equal rights and freedom for anyone and everyone regardless of race, color, sex, language,
religion or political affiliation. One should not be deprived of their rights because everyone are
inherinted to their own rights, and no one should be able to take that away from anyone.
Without them a person is nothing. You can t live life or even survive in this world without your
rights. No matter your religion, gender, ethnicity or color. The theme of this essay is about the
violation of human rights. Everyone is equally intitled to their rights without discrimination. One
should know just how important human rights are and how no one has a right to take it away
from anyone . Our rights are incorruptable, indestructable and everlasting.
The books relate to each other by having the same point. All three books talk about how
human rights got violated and infringed on. Human beings aren t being treated like human
beings, and these injustices need to stop. From reading the three books one has come to the
conclusion that all books have characters that had their rights extinguished. From Being
accused of crimes one didn t commit to unfair inprisonment. According to Jimmy Santiago Baca,
in his book titled A Place to Stand , he talks about how he was an easy target for the police
because of his circumstances. He writes The police always accused me

How Does Elie Wiesel Lose Faith In Night

Period 1
Faith is Lost in the Night The horrible accounts of the holocaust are vividly captured by Elie Wiesel in
Night, an award winning work by a Holocaust survivor. It describes his time in the Holocaust and
helps the reader fully understand the pain he went through. In the text, Elie continuously mentions
how he is losing his faith to god. It is evident that he has nearly, if not completely lost his faith during
the events of the holocaust. In the memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel s faith changes because of the absence
of God, the dehumanization of the prisoners, and all of the death that surrounds him. A main factor to
the loss of Elie s faith is the absence of God. Many times in the memoir, Elie is ... Show more content

He was then beaten by some others and eventually died of a blow to the head. This caused turmoil in
Elie s life because all of his faith and will to live stemmed from his father. After his father s death he
had nothing to look forward to and nothing to be faithful for. Because of this, he lost all of his faith
and will to live. It is remarkable that Elie was able to survive without any faith because that is what
pushed him to live on. Death was the prominent reason Elie lost his faith in the memoir. The absence
of God, the dehumanization of the prisoners, and all of the death that surrounds him causes Elie
Wiesel to lose faith in the memoir Night. Once Elie knew that god had betrayed him and the other
Jews, he began to lose his faith. After being tortured to an unbelievable extent and treated like dogs he
lost yet even more faith. Finally, when his father, his source of faith, dies he completely loses all hope
and will to live. Elie s faith changed drastically from the beginning to the end of the memoir because
he had to live through the horrors of the

Analysis Of The Entertainer By Scott Joplin
The Entertainer by Scott Joplin
The Entertainer composed by Scott Joplin, was created because, rag time in the 1902 was extremely
popular between 1897 1917 . Moreover this music piece is resurrected for our entertainment in the
1973 Oscar winning movie The String
The famous song published by John Stark Son of St. Louis, in the summer of December 29, 1902 was
an song created for the lovers of ragtime music and dancers of the two step piece that was popular
during this period. The original piece key signature is C Major but got transposed to F major for Tenor
Saxophone playing. Therefore, the time signature is 4/4 with a tempo of 77 BPM with Mezzo Forte
being the starting dynamic.
One of the many style that you could analyze this ragtime piece is by using AA, BB, A, CC and in the
second time DD. This technique was used in what many commentators would say African
Americans... use.... freedom of speech in order to enhance their identity and presence in the United
States of America , giving in those times a more inferior community, in America, a freedom a way to
communicate. Throughout the song, the tone of the piece gives off a relaxing sound but gets tedious
after a while since there is not much variation between the notes, and is quite repetitive all through the
piece. The rhythm of the song is 4/4 timing which makes the characteristic identity with ragtime in its
two step andate. Highlighted throughout the musical piece, there a waves of ostinato due to the

Susan Sontag s View on Interpretation and its Applications and Analysis Using Bedlam Painting
Number Eight
Interpretation has been a phenomenon existing from the time immemorial. There has been a long
tradition of interpretation, in all occupations. Interpretation of arts and literature has gone to an extent
that it has taken shape of a discipline and has grown as a methodology and an art itself. Eliot even
says, We might remind ourselves that criticism is as inevitable as breathing . Method of Interpretation
has long been a subject of discussion among intellectual circles and it has been subject to a constant
evolution ever since it came into being. Moreover, the conventional methods have always been
circling around the dynamics of relationship of the signifier and the signified, a discourse upon
meaning of a work of art. Sontag has proposed an objection towards the traditional methods of such

The Ethics Of Living Jim Crow Stylistic Devices
In The Ethics of Living Jim Crow by Richard Wright, various stylistic devices and rhetorical strategies
are used such as symbolism, and colloquial language. The use of Wright s symbolism of the green
growing things establishes how African Americans were disadvantaged in their upcoming. In this, the
white boys which lived beyond the tracks were able to hide behind trees, hedges, and the sloping
embankments of their lawns. The symbolism of these green things, displays how white people had an
upper advantage in society, having luxurious lives to hide behind. Meanwhile, Wright remarked I didn
t have any trees or hedges to hide behind displaying how African Americans were not protected,
leaving them easily discriminated against and futile against attack. In this, Wright remarks that the
green things grew into an overarching symbol of fear. Furthermore, the use of colloquial language by
white people displayed how they had the freedom to say what they pleased, whereas Wright had to
talk formally to white people using phrases such as Yes, sir , and No, sir, Mr. Pease. Additionally,
Wright had to question every word he said, in an attempt to not to offend a white man, describing how
To have said: Thank you! would have made the white man think that you thought you were receiving
from him a personal service. For such an act I have seen Negroes take a blow in the mouth. Together,
these stylistic choices affect the tone and meaning of the work as they display the unjust

Best Practices and the Sdlc
It has long been accepted that constant change is fundamental to IT. While most IT managers
understand that change is part of the norm, the organizations that employ them often resist it.
Successful IT development calls for having a clear blueprint for proper IT direction of an organization.
By using a System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model and sound best practice methods, an IT
manager can define that blueprint and make the best possible IT decisions.
According to http://www.bigpedia.comthe SDLC relates to models or methodologies that people use

Less than six months after the process started, the best practice tag was awarded to Eglin Air Force
Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. They were allowed to implement their procedures Air Force wide. In
the end, Eglin saved the Air Force six million dollars with its best practice procedures. As the term
best practice has become more popular, some organizations have begun using best practices to refer to
what are in fact rules, causing creativity to hamper.
This will never be the case with Google. Google believes that giving their employees freedom to move
about the company without middle management following them around has actually prompted
creativity. In a interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Google CEO Sergey Brin explained that
Google provides free gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner all prepared by gourmet chefs. They get
free medical care, daycare, and there is even a massage chair in the lobby. All of these benefits spur
creativity, which has made Google one of the World Wide Web pioneers. Google does not use best
practice because they are too rigid and do not allow employees to think outside the box . Some best
practices are needed though. This was the case with Microsoft and Netscape. They used a synchronize
and stabilize method created by David Yoffie and Michael Cusumano to orchestrate a massive
overseeing and managing of source code. This method allowed the two corporations to work
efficiently in a parallel.

The Spirits of the Dreaming are thought to be the origin of the indigenous people as said above. While
emerging through the barrier between the physical and spiritual world, the Spirits took the features

The Indigenous relied on crafted items and natures given resources to support the economic structure
in their tribes. Tribal trading was a way for resources that were scarce in parts of Australia to be
available. Due to the economic independence of the Indigenous people the skills of trades were
developed over the knowledge of money and traditional economics. The exploitation of their
traditional skills and appeared mastery of labour work eventually grew into employment for the
Indigenous after the colonisation.
This did extend to the fishing skills being used for labouring purposes and trading amongst the
business owner in the late 1990 s.
The function of the economic organisation before mass trading was simply used as a method of
providing, whether it was providing food, water, resources such as wood, rocks or clays and clothing
resources such as animal skins.
Diversity amongst the economics lays in the trading of the products between tribes. Particular tribes in
certain regions lacked access to a wide population of Kangaroo s but may of had a wide availability of
Possum s that could be offered in return for Kangaroo from another tribe. The languages connect to
the trading in the of tribe communication during said trades, and that language knowledge stems from
the need of understanding the dialects to communicate accurately amongst fellow totem

The Glass Menagerie By Tennessee Williams
In literature, stories traditionally revolve around a main protagonist, whom the fate of the other
characters rests upon. The protagonist is often expected to struggle and bear important duties in order
to achieve success. The main antagonist, on the other hand, is usually responsible for the struggles that
the protagonist must overcome, and serves as a threat to the characters. The character of Tom in
Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie, serves as a flawed protagonist. He bears the heavy
responsibility of supporting his family, but also struggles against the boredom and stress of his
everyday life. Despite his positive traits, he clearly shows contempt for each of his family members,
and longs for adventure away from them. Tom s father, whom is only mentioned by the characters, can
be considered an antagonist. His abandonment of his family led to the many difficulties that Tom,
Laura, and Amanda face. As such, he burdens the family and ultimately has influence on Tom s
decision to leave them. Williams uses various literary devices to enhance the theme that one must act
without pity in order to escape life s struggles. The Glass Menagerie takes place in St. Louis, in 1937.
The main protagonist, Tom, works in a shoe factory, and his only source of enjoyment is writing
poetry and watching movies. His sister, Laura, is a crippled woman with little confidence in herself.
Their mother, Amanda, attempts to secure a safe future for Laura, but is ineffective in raising

Silence is better than unmeaning words by Pythagoras has very deep meaning. Silence is defined as
when there is an absence of sound, but there is more to it. During silence a lot of the times people have

In Foer s story when the speaker defines meaning of a particular symbol, he relates the symbol to a

of this usage occurred when I was a boy. My grandmother was driving me to a piano lesson, and the
Volvo s wipers only moved the rain around. She turned down the volume of the second side of the
seventh tape of an audio version of Shoah, put her hand on my cheek, and said, I hope that you never

which indicates whisper. Not only did speaker described the meaning but he connected it to his past

representing a truth with the business and they do have the right to make attacks to get them to make
the change.
6) I absolutely 100% believe that animals have rights because they are alive just like us human beings
are. Animals definitely have emotions and feelings just like we do and can also speak out lout but we
necessarily cannot always figure out what they are trying to portray. I believe since we are human
beings, we should be the ones to make sure animals are safe and can live without being harmed in the
wild or as pets, in other words that can be looked at as our duty.
From the reading of the case and how PETA portrayed KFC being cruel and not handling their
chickens respectfully, I do not think that they protect animal welfare at an acceptable level. They can
definitely make they changes that PETA stated about the business. Either way, many people are going
to have different perspectives about this and may think that what KFC is doing is completely fine
because they are making

Differences And Similarities Between Sunni And Sufi Sect
There are many differences and similarities between the beliefs of Muslims who follow Sunni, Shi ite
and Sufi Islam. Both the Sunni Shi ite sects of Islam were formed in 632 CE and the Sufi Sect was
formed in 675 CE. All three sects originated in the Middle East, worship Allah and use the Qur an as
their sacred text. Immediately after the death of the Prophet Muhammed the Sunni sect was formed
and comprised of believers who did not support the belief that Muhammad s cousin son in law Ali
should be leader. They instead believe that Muhammad did not specifically appoint a successor to take
his place as leader of the Muslim community. They believe that a group of his most prominent

The Application Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Nowadays, new technology is rapidly shaping the way how construction projects are delivered. The
application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is one of these examples. Unlike conventional aerial
measurement by aircraft, it doesn t require expensive aeronautical facility and trivial procedure.
Comparing to other surveying approaches like using the GPS navigation, the UAV systems can
outperform in many large scale projects by saving cost and time. There many explorations to potential

To fulfill that goal, the booming technology like point cloud technology can be utilized with the
UAVs. In construction aspect, the point cloud data is a set of coordinates produced by 3D scanning
process which executed by the UAVs. By software like Geomagic Studio, the point cloud data for the
job site can be converted into 3D topographic, or the sections inside the building can be transformed
into 3D models. By the year 2018, the domestic UAV industry is expected to grow to be a $13.6
billion market (Hanna, 2014). Due to the small payload of the UAVs and the movement attributions in
the flight, the most of unmanned aerial vehicles utilized in the construction site cannot be equipped
with professional cameras. However, the data collected by UAVs still meets the accuracy requirements
for the construction. Comparing to other surveying options like using measure station or GPS
equipment, the data collected by UAV systems can still outperform the data measured by traditional
equipment and techniques in cost and time. Therefore, with proper construction strategy, the UAV
systems with point cloud can be a promising tool for construction. It is important for construction
managers to consider value engineering which means balancing three elements: quality, cost, and
schedule in the construction process. Basically, applying UAV system with point cloud technology can

Elements Of A Personal Protective Equipment Program
Personal Protective Equipment Program
The following report answers questions on a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program project. It
will briefly describe the different components of a PPE Program for a company called ABC Plastics
and outline the elements of a typical program.
Scope and Description of the PPE Program
ABC Plastics Company will access the workplace to identify and evaluate the hazards present or
potential hazards likely to be present which requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
If the hazards are present or likely to be present, we will as far as it is reasonably practicable remove
or eliminate the hazards or exposure through engineering control. Where this is not feasible, we will
select the type of PPE that will protect the employee, require that the PPE is used by the employee and
communicate the selection decision to the employees.
The purpose of this PPE program is to protect our employees by ensuring that the workers are trained
on the use, and maintenance of the appropriate PPE. We will ensure that the PPE is provided, used,
and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition due to the potential hazards from workplace
processes.
As part of the Health and Safety Orientation we will ensure that all employees and contractors are
initially trained in the use of the PPE relevant to their area of occupational responsibility, primary
work area and assigned task at the time of hire. Ongoing and refresher training in PPE will be made

Superhero Influence On American Culture
Comic book industries have been the main establishers for the new American youth culture. This has
also been well used to settle a cultural representation for communism, wartime propaganda, and, to
those adults who thought their child acting rude was caused by comics, a sign of the decline of comic
books, thus making the industry fall into consensus and conformity. Ever since the first comic book

Whether from romance to war or justice to crime, comic books have forever changed popular culture

Besides, there were about three hundred citizens in the small village where the setting took place. The

How Did The Enlightenment Contribute To The American...
How did the Enlightenment contribute to the American Revolution? Well before I answer that
question, you need to know about the Enlightenment. During the Enlightenment, which took place in
the 18th century, philosophers looked for natural laws that governed society and politics. The
Enlightenment began in Europe as many citizens started to question their government and the way it
ran. Some important philosophers during the Enlightenment were John Locke, he believed that people
should be able to revolt where their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. He
also believed in natural rights such as the right to life, the right to be free, and the right to own
property. Another important philosopher was Voltaire , who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Several people believed that there were better ways to rule over a country. For example, Thomas
Hobbes thought that people were born selfish and couldn t handle making their own decisions so they
needed a stronger government; like an absolute monarchy. However, other Enlightenment thinkers
believed the opposite. This made people question the way their government ran and people believed
they deserved more rights. In the end, we gained a democracy. We created the Declaration of
Independence, US Bill of Rights, The US Constitution and may more important documents. Rousseau
helped form the ideas behind some of these important documents. He wrote the Social Contract which
says that the government should rule according to the will of the people. Adam Smith also said that
governments should not interfere with a free market economy. John Locke also believed that people
should be able to rebel against their government if it was not protecting the natural rights of the

Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti
During the Victorian period, the feminism was beginning to take on a stronger voice, marking the start
of this movement. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became
publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian society
that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market , this voice is
evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the goblins
take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and corrupt.
According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates evil
which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all suspicion and
resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman throughout the
poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women. Although it can be argued
that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is evident that their only need is to take
their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and acquired the juices of their fruits, they
have no further need of them (Mermin 291).
The poem begins with an image reflecting that of the Garden of Eden. Much like the serpent, the
goblins call the sisters to their delicious, exotic fruits, which represent the proverbial forbidden fruit
one taste and chaos ensues. Using

to its association with such preferred work attitudes as increased job satisfaction, higher performance,
lower absenteeism and turnover intentions (Yousef, 2000). It has been generally recognized that
organizational commitment is one of the major factors determining organizational performance and

are used for the management techniques that have the most potential to resolve conflicts. Bias is

directed towards the actors in conflict to realize their own interests when various problems threaten or

remains of her former home. She soon discovers a letter left on the escritoire that was dated for the
same day she had arrived. Kathleen reads the mysterious letter and soon realizes it is a letter from her

Organized Crime In The 1920s Essay
After World War I, the attitude of Americans in the United States changed drastically. For the first
time, more people lived in cities than in rural areas (Danzer 640). Trends including superficial fads,
professional sports, new types of music, and the idea of celebrities represented the establishment of
pop culture during the Roaring 20s (Fagnilli 46). Challenging the values and practices of the
traditional American, many individuals, usually young people, introduced casual dating, more
revealing clothing, birth control, and new styles of dancing (Fagnilli 45 46). Although the 1920s were
considered the good times, there was a darker side to this era, including a rise in unemployment,
organized crime, and an irrational fear of communism. In the 1920s, many citizens were left without a
job as unemployment rates increased. During World War 1, the United States had established a butter
to guns policy, meaning they shifted much of the production of consumer goods to production of war
materials (Fagnilli 39). However, most of the nine million people who had worked in war ... Show

The New Negro, By Alain Locke
Throughout Alain Locke s works Values and Imperatives, Pluralism and Intellectual Democracy,
Cultural Relativism and Ideological Peace, The New Negro, and Harlem, I found there to be a number
of reoccurring themes, such as absolutes, imperatives, values, and relativism and their place in
pluralism. I am going to be focusing on all the aforementioned themes and showing how they are all
intertwined into the principles of pluralism. What is an absolute? In Values and Imperatives, Locke
defines them briefly as imperatives of action and as norms of preference and choice. With the use of
that definition comes the question of what an imperative is. In the preface of this piece, the editor
writes that when Locke is referring to imperatives, he means compelling rules, guidelines, and actions.
Our imperatives function as authoritative guidelines. A value, according to Locke, is an emotionally
mediated form of experience, so judgments of value are essentially emotional judgments. For me, this
is somewhat reminiscent of Emerson and his view on experience and values; a man does not
consciously do something without having a belief or value behind it. Locke also goes on to later say in
the same work that values are rooted in attitudes, not in reality, and pertain to ourselves, not to the
world. The editor also writes that when Locke is referring to values, he generally means feelings,
attitudes, beliefs, preferences, attenuations for moral principles, aesthetic

perpetrator is encouraged to come and they have been appointed and attorney. The attorney will be
there to represent their client at this first initial court hearing.
The first court hearing consists of many different things. The first thing that happen is the investigator
is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened during the investigation that were
significant enough to take PC. This is a precaution step to make sure the kids were removed for a
legitimate reason. At this point the judge can sign off on the order of PC or return the kids home to the
perpetrator. The investigator explained this process to me prior to going into the courtroom and she
said the judge never sends the kids back home. The perpetrator can be called to the stand but most of
the time they are not. The next thing that is put in place is a permanency order for the child. The
permanency order is put in place for temporary housing. The last thing that is filed

Being safe and secure could attract employees seeking employment. The advantage of this is that it
reduce risks of accidents among inexperienced employees, to attract qualified applicants and retailers
have OHS policies in place. One of disadvantage is that there is a risk of employees are not
compensated.
In addition, recruitment and training could also be address. Recruitment and training ensures that
employees are up to standard when delivering services and producing quality products. One advantage
is that this new recruits are available during shortage of labour which could help in the ease of demand
in sales. One disadvantage is that it is expensive to run such initiatives.
Moreover, increasing wages and giving bonuses is another strategy retailers could use. This initiatives
could attract unemployment s and could also motivate current employees to give their best in
delivering goods and services. The advantage is that employees deliver better services and also they
could know that they are recognized for their work and will not look for other jobs available. One
disadvantage is that when such crisis happens again this workers may demand for their salaries to
increase and if is not met they would seek other jobs available which could lead to labour shortage. It
is better to give sound allowances and increments to individual employees so that they know that their

Chemical Reactions Lab
: During each reaction, something happened. During reaction 1, after adding the nitric acid a red
brown gas was created. The copper first turned green after a few minutes turned into a blue solution.
Reaction 2, When acid was added a blue precipitate formed. Reaction 3, when heated the solution
turned into a black precipitate. I noticed that the darker particles were denser than water. Dark
particles began to settle to the bottom. Reaction 4, Sulfuric acid dissolved the black precipitate back to
clear aqua blue liquid. Reaction 5, noticed a yellowish gas (acid) , as the solution was chunky, murky,
purple then grey. Zinc was over saturated throughout the solution. The use of sulfuric and
hydrochloric acid to clear the zinc particles. This turned the solution clear and left dull copper metal.
The percent recovery of the copper product was 139%. A percent error of 39%. ... Show more content

The law of conservation of mass was proven to show that mistakes during the lab like adding to much
zinc can alter the final sample results. After going through each reaction it was clear that there are
many ways to express chemical reactions, their states, and the transitions made for any transitional
element. I also learned that the use of copper can be vast and recyclable. This will help save the
college money on lab supplies. If we apply the science of the copper cycle to business and global
industries we can make use of matter without

Narrative Essay About Batman
In times of crisis, I look for Batman. Batman has always been there to help me and all people who are
in need. Though he is interiorly fictional , Batman has impacted thousands of lives, Including mine.
These people he has entertained when they have read his stories. He has also inspired these people to
be good citizens.I first learned of Batman when I watched his animated series as a child. I remember
that I was amazed by his black and gray costume. I also loved his villains, and his gadgets. Hours of
my childhood were spent watching Batman in his many adventures. My memory of Batman goes back
so far that I cannot remember a time when I did not know who Batman was. Now that I am an adult I
wonder, Why does Batman appeal to me so much? Could it be his costume. No, I find other super hero
costume far superior. Do Batman s villains draw me to Batman. The villain do entertain me, However,
I do not find them as interesting as Batman. Then why do I love Batman? The admiration I now have
for Batman goes deeper than the superficial aspects of the characters such as his costumes, gadget, or
villains. What instigates my desire to learn as much as I can about the character are his deeper core
elements, such as His tragedy, humanity, and morality.
The tragedy of Batman begins with the death of Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne was the son of the
wealthy Thomas and Martha Wayne. He had all he needed. However, when the Wayne s family
walked home from a visit to the movie theater one night,

  • 2. The Anatomy Of Corporate Fraud Essay Article Critique #1 The first article researched was The Anatomy of Corporate Fraud: A comparative Analysis of High Profile American and European Corporate Scandals. The abstract discusses the analysis conducted on the three major American accounting scandals; Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth, and compares to the three major European accounting scandals; Parmalat, Royal Ahold, and Vivendi Universal. Bahram Soltani (2014), also discusses within the abstract the different areas reviewed regarding why the accounting scandals occurred; ethical climate, tone at the top, bubble economy and market control, fraudulent financial reporting, accountability, control, auditing, governance, and management compensation (p. 251). Between 2001 and 2003 there were several corporate accounting scandals that occurred that took the world by surprise. A lot of investors lost a lot of money and several employees lost their jobs. These accounting scandals occurred due to management misconduct, fraud, and scams that occurred within these companies. Within the United States, the big cases typically viewed are the Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth cases, however, it is forgotten that Europe experienced a similar situation with Parmalat, Royal Ahold, and Vivendi Universal. Soltani (2014), discusses the importance of understanding the motivation and causes of financial corporate scandals. Soltani (2014) notes three research questions associated with this article: 1. The Importance Of Chemical Weapons The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) defines chemical weapons as Any toxic chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its chemical action (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, n.d.). Chemical weapons have been around for a long time since ancient times, in fact some chemical weapons such as chlorine were frequently used during World War I (War of nerves, 2006) (Pitschmann, 2014). Over the years with the increase of industrialization and the advancements in technology chemical weapons have become easier to make, since the materials needed to make chemical weapons are now more accessible to the public and industries (War of nerves, 2006). This not only has allowed some states to improve their chemical warfare programs, but it has also increased the proliferation and it has allowed terrorists to be able to developed chemical weapons and conduct successful chemical terrorists attacks (War of nerves, 2006). Chlorine can be obtained easily and a chemical attack using chlorine can have serious consequences because it could affect many people (Pitschmann, 2014). It is important to recognize that the chemical weapons that are usually employed by terrorist organizations are not as developed as the warfare chemical weapons that are developed by nation states (Pitschmann, 2014). A Human Papillomavirus Vaccine asil: A human papillomavirus vaccine [GENERAL INTRODUCTION] The modern world is considerably lucky in the fact that vaccinations have been created and made readily available thanks to Edward Jenner and his development of the first vaccine for smallpox in 1796. Since the 18th century, there have been about fifty different vaccines created to protect humans against bacterial and viral diseases. A vaccine is a substance that can be administered through needle injections, by mouth, or by aerosol to stimulate the production of antibodies and supply immunity against one or a few diseases. The vaccine is prepared from the causative agent of a disease and is used to act as an antigen without activating the disease. There are many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vaccinations to an individual are extremely beneficial, but there are many individuals who do not believe in vaccines, too. This is when the vaccine herd effect becomes a vital role in vulnerable populations at a high risk for obtaining infection. The vaccine herd effect, refers to the indirect protection of unvaccinated persons, whereby an increase in the prevalence of immunity by the vaccine prevents circulation of infectious agents in susceptible populations. (Kim, et al. 2011) The herd effect has been a major reason for the abolition of smallpox and the protection against influenza and pneumococcal disease since the vaccinated individuals have spread the vaccine benefits to unvaccinated people. Early vaccinations were primarily attenuated or inactivated, but over time and with advancements in immunology, biochemistry, and molecule biology, there have been new strategies implemented in the development of vaccines. An article in the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research discusses the use of recombinant proteins which allows the targeting of immune responses focused against protective antigens. There are, a variety of expression systems with different advantages, allowing the production of large quantities of proteins depending on the required characteristics. Live recombinant bacteria or viral vectors effectively stimulate the immune system as in natural infections and have intrinsic adjuvant properties. (Nascimento and Leite, 2012). The recombinant ... Credit rating agencies and the ratings they supply are critical information resource for investors. An error in the credit rating process has a huge impact on buyers and sellers of credit. Well before I answer that question, you need to know about the Enlightenment. During the Enlightenment, which took place in the 18th century, philosophers looked for natural laws that governed society and politics. The Enlightenment began in Europe as many citizens started to question their government and the way it ran. Some important philosophers during the Enlightenment were John Locke, he believed that people should be able to revolt where their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian society that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market , this voice is evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the goblins take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and corrupt. According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates evil which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all suspicion and resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman throughout the poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women. Although it can be argued that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is evident that their only need is to take their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and acquired the juices of their fruits, they have no further need of them (Mermin 291). Much like the serpent, the goblins call the sisters to their delicious, exotic fruits, which represent the proverbial forbidden fruit one taste and chaos ensues. Using ... For the first time, more people lived in cities than in rural areas (Danzer 640). I am going to be focusing on all the aforementioned themes and showing how they are all intertwined into the principles of pluralism. What is an absolute? In Values and Imperatives, Locke defines them briefly as imperatives of action and as norms of preference and choice. With the use of that definition comes the question of what an imperative is. In the preface of this piece, the editor writes that when Locke is referring to imperatives, he means compelling rules, guidelines, and actions. Our imperatives function as authoritative guidelines. A value, according to Locke, is an emotionally mediated form of experience, so judgments of value are essentially emotional judgments. For me, this is somewhat reminiscent of Emerson and his view on experience and values; a man does not consciously do something without having a belief or value behind it. Locke also goes on to later say in the same work that values are rooted in attitudes, not in reality, and pertain to ourselves, not to the world. The editor also writes that when Locke is referring to values, he generally means feelings, attitudes, beliefs, preferences, attenuations for moral principles, aesthetic ...
