This document summarizes several respiratory disorders: Bronchial asthma causes difficult breathing and wheezing due to bronchiolar constriction from smooth muscle contraction in the bronchioles. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing. Mountain sickness occurs in people going to high altitude for the first time, developing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, headache, fatigue and lack of sleep within a day before acclimating. Decompression sickness occurs when a person returns rapidly from a high atmospheric pressure environment like deep sea diving to normal pressure. Symptoms include severe joint pain, numbness, temporary paralysis and muscle cramps.

2. Eupnea
Normal respiratory pattern is called eupnea
Apnea
It is defined as the temporary arrest of breathing.
Hypoxia
It is defined as reduced availability of oxygen to the
tissues.

3. DYSPNEA
Dyspnea means difficulty in breathing

4. Bronchial asthma

Bronchial asthma is the difficult breathing with
wheezing.
(Wheezing refers to whistling type of respiration)
Reason:
Bronchiolar constriction, caused by spastic
contraction of smooth muscles in bronchioles, leading to
obstruction of air passage

5. Bronchial asthma- Symptoms
Shortness of breath.
Tightness of chest.
Wheezing.
Excessive coughing or a cough that keeps you
awake at night

7. Cyanosis
It is defined as the diffused bluish coloration
of skin and mucus membrane.
It is due to the presence of large amount of
reduced hemoglobin in the blood

8. MOUNTAIN SICKNESS
Mountain sickness is the condition characterized
by adverse effects of hypoxia at high altitude.
It is commonly developed in persons going to high
altitude for the first time.
It occurs within a day in these persons, before they
get acclimatized to the altitude.

9. MOUNTAIN SICKNESS-Symptoms
Nausea and vomiting
Increase heart rate and force of contraction
Headache
Depression and Lack of sleep
Weakness and fatigue

10. DECOMPRESSION SICKNESS
 Decompression sickness is the disorder that occurs
when a person returns rapidly to normal surroundings
(atmospheric pressure) from the area of high atmospheric
pressure like deep sea.
 It is also known as dysbarism, compressed air sickness,
caisson disease, bends or diver’s palsy.

11. DECOMPRESSION SICKNESS-Symptoms
Severe pain in tissues, particularly the joints,
Sensation of numbness,
Temporary paralysis
Muscle cramps
