Similarities Between Constantine The Great And Qin Shihuangdi
Constantine was called Constantine the Great and Qin Shihuangdi was the emperor of the Qin
dynasty; each of these men was leaders of their country and each is similar and as much as they may
be similar in their title s they were different. Constantine the Great was a man that lead an empire that
persecuted Christians, which he later put an end to the persecution of Christians. Qin Shihuangdi was
a leader in his country, he had interests in magic, he dished out cruel punishments, ruled with strict
laws, and was believed to have created shrewd military policies. Each of these leaders was seen as
good leaders, however, they did use harsh methods to control their people and rule their country. A
tomb for Qin Shihuangdi was constructed, which had terracotta soldiers and horses to protect his tomb
(Hoh, 2001, p. 35). Constantine I, upon his death was buried in Constantinople (Freeman, 2001, p. 1).

A charismatic leader leads by charm and personality and looks to fulfill the company s goals by
devotion. Transformational leaders focus on effecting innovative change, by being committed to their
business vision. Visionary leaders dream about the future and takes those dreams and translate them
into goals that can be achieved and are able to articulate those goals with inspiration that encourages
the commitment to others (Nanjundeswaraswamy Swamy, 2014). There are other types of leadership
styles, however, these three were chosen because of the two leaders in this paper. Either of these
leaders could be said to have had any one of the above leadership styles, based on their history, it
would possibly be fair to say that Constantine s leadership style was one of transformational and Qin
Shihuangdi, could possibly fall into the category of being a visionary

Larceny
Larceny
November 27, 2013
Larceny is defined as the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from his
or her possession with intent to convert them to the takers own use. To say it plainly, larceny is
stealing someone else s property. No matter what reasons there are behind stealing, it is still wrong. I
imagine there are many reasons for a person to decide that it is worth the risk to steal something.
There are certain people who do not think this is wrong to steal someone else s property. A large part
of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming when they steal. Most
people who commit larceny do not look at the big picture and realize what they are doing and how it
affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An employer can prevent fraud in this situation by informing the employees that they do audit the till
at the end of the shift and will find out if there is something wrong going on.
This method of cash larceny is more dangerous because an employee would have to put in a personal
check to cover the balance so the till would balance .
The employee would be no better off than before they stole the cash because their check will
eventually be cashed and that makes no sense to do something like that.
The company could spot the employees check during reconciliation and catch on to what they are
doing even though they are replacing the money it is steal larceny at the time they take the money.
A company can avoid this situation by making it company policy that an employee cannot cash a
check or pay for goods while they are on the clock working.
This policy would make it easier to detect when fraud is actually happening this way.
When people commit larceny there are always lasting effects. One of the major effects of people
committing larceny by shoplifting or embezzling is on the economy. Stores have to make up for the
things that people shoplift so they raise their prices for on the items being stolen therefore causing
higher prices for honest paying people. If shoplifting was to stop all together, then shoplifters would
not have the motive of higher prices as their excuse for

Carol Bhakos Abraham Of Many Faiths Analysis
Liam McConnell Dr. Hall Western Religious Traditions 18 September 2016 Abraham of Many Faiths
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most distinct and well known religions in the world.
They have persisted for generation upon generation and have by far the largest number of followers of
all religions in the world. They also share some interesting similarities in their foundational stories.
Where did these faiths originate, and why do they share many aspects while differing on still more?
Carol Bakhos lays this out very well in The Family of Abraham and explains her thoughts on the
similarities and differences the influential figure of Abraham shares within these three faiths. Abraham
is recognized globally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should not
identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse than
others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have placed
distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of thinking that places
some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more or less as equals. That is
not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their mothers live in the abode of
Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the sole important figure while Ishmael
becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these
religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is
the one giving birth to the first son of Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much
more docile role after being spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same
religions, however, disagree with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar,
rather, Ishmael was the one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two
religions place very clear distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct
branches, intimating that some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all
with this belief and I agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into.
While it is true that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be
regarded

The Night Circus Analysis
The Night Circus shows up without warning. It becomes an instant success. It proves the impossible,
possible. It treats all your senses, either with the black and white tents, or the unique caramel scent in
the air. It welcomes everyone to get lost in clouds, experience impossible feats by illusionists and
acrobats, or stumble upon a more hidden tent with sensations in a bottle. But the most exclusive
characteristic is the fact that it only opens at night. Welcome to Le Cirque des Rêves, but beyond the
circus, there is a competition between two different approaches to magic and illusions. This is an

Compare Beowulf And Forrest Gump
Nowadays many people believe that Beowulf and Forrest Gump are similar because they both
considered as heroes of the time in which they lived. First of all, Beowulf considered as a hero
because he is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is brave, and at the
same time, a decent hero. There is no reason to doubt his merits. Forrest Gump is also considered as a
hero because he thinks about faith, love, honesty, patriotism. He is a kind person who remained
faithful to his family, friends, and his country. He is a man who always carries God in his soul, and
lives according to the laws of Christian love to God and to the nearest ones. Both Beowulf and Forrest
Gump do things that other people consider impossible. Beowulf and Forrest Gump can be compared
as heroes representing their time period and cultures. Beowulf is a medieval heroic epic. The poem
originated on the basis of ancient traditions related to pagan times. The poem represent an early
example of precisely moral heroism, but not the one that is caused by the desire for fame and power.
The main character of the poem, Beowulf, is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of
justice. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others.
His courage is shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane s enemies. By being self
assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the
time Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, I ve never known fear,
as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon
hiding in his tower dares to face me. (ll. 2511 2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the
dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying,
When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which
of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this
monster. (ll. 2525 2534) In his actions, Beowulf s bravery is clearly shown throughout the poem. As
king, Beowulf is the

Pop Rocks Research Paper
Pop Rocks are a fun candy that have been enjoyed over the years. As soon as you put them in your
mouth, you start to hear and feel the popping! The question you might be asking is what exactly are
Pop Rocks? Everyone has eaten the popping candy, but have you ever wondered what makes them
pop? You might be wondering how Pop Rocks are even made or if they are dangerous.
Most hard candy is consisted of sugar, corn syrup, water, and flavoring. You heat the ingredients
together and boil the mixture to get off all of the water. Then, you let the temperature rise. The
temperature that the hard candy is heated at is 300 degrees Fahrenheit. After the temperature is raised,
you are left with is a pure sugar syrup. When it cools, you have hard candy. Pop Rocks are made by,
combining the hot sugar substances with carbon dioxide gas. Once it cools, you release the pressure
and the candy shatters, but the pieces still contain the high pressure bubbles. If you look at Pop Rocks

There are theories that drinking Coke with Pop Rocks will make your stomach explode. Mythbusters
proved that this is incorrect. In their very first episode, they used a pig stomach and combined a six
pack of Coke and six packets of Pop Rocks. There was a lot of fizz, but it did not burst the stomach.
On a scale from one to ten on dangerousness, Pop Rocks come in at about a two. It is very rare, but
there is a potential risk of ulcers and loss of teeth. This can only happen in extreme cases. Originally
invented in 1956 by William A. Mitchell, a chemist at the General Foods company looking for a way
to make instant carbonated soda by somehow trapping carbon dioxide into candy tablets. But when the
instant soda experiment didn t turn out, the formula was forgotten and put away. Twenty years later,
another chemist came across the formula, reworked it a little, and turned it into Pop

The Poisonwood Bible as a Catalog of Romanticism Essay
The Poisonwood Bible as a Catalog of Romanticism
In The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver, the romantic standards that are associated with
literature during the American Renaissance are evident. This popular novel, a New York Times
Bestseller, embodies the concept of Romanticism with its gothic darkness, themes of loss and
nostalgia, and a strong captivity narrative. The presence of a wise child and recurring double language
are essential to the plot of the story. Nathan Price s misguided mission to save souls in the Congo is
transformed into an evil that invades a type of Paradise and so, the reader realizes immediately that
this twisted attempt to Christianize the savages will result in a fall of epic proportions. The ... Show

Much like Natty Bumpo in The Last of the Mohicans, Nathan sets out to expand the boundaries, not of
America, but of Christianity. His inroads into the frontier have destructive repercussions that are
disguised as progress. Just like James Fenimore Cooper, this author deals with the ideal boundary that
is the frontier and the difference between the civilized and cultivated and the wild and Lawless
(Fiedler 179). Kingsolver adds to this list, however, the Christian and heathen in much the same way.
Nathan Price refuses to see the beauty of the system that is in place and struggles to bend Africa to his
will; however, the real story lies in the women.
Captivity is a strong theme running throughout American Romantic literature. This novel is a
wilderness romance with strong undercurrents of captivity and escape. Not long after arriving in the
Congo, their minds are already focused on escape. The jungle is a paradise, but a dark, gothic one
where evil lies in wait in the form of venomous snakes, flesh eating ants, and the poisonwood tree.
Just as surely as the slaves in Uncle Tom s Cabin were searching for escape from captivity, so too are
these women and children, and their escape is equally fraught with danger. The entire time that they
live in the village, they imagine that a return to America will release them from their heartache, but
this does not prove to be the case for any of them. Africa takes the life of one sister, holds on to

A Theology Of Leadership For Christ s Church
Theology is an attempt to explain God and his relationship to our world and humanity, while
leadership is the human endeavor or capacity to lead or guide others through an operation, activity,
task, or even through life. To build a theology of leadership is to build on the interrelation between
these two. In order to develop a true theology of leadership, thoughtful reflection on Biblical scripture
and the leadership of those called by God must be examined. What I assert is that of all the models
that we have examined that Servant Leadership is a theology of leadership for Christ centered pastoral
leadership within Christ s church.
Northouse defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to
achieve a common goal. Leadership as it works through those in pastoral leadership in the church then
is a process whereby an individual who has been influenced by the works of Christ as they have
journeyed the path of faith and come to embrace and embody Christ and the gospel message within
their own life then in acceptance of Christ s call upon their life goes out to influence, invite, and
empower others to embrace and embody the gospel in their own lives.
For the not yet established church it was Christ who was the original influencer of a ragtag group of
disciples and followers who came to embrace and embody His gospel message and through which
Christ would build His church. So who better to look to when looking at leadership and

The Success Of Primerica Financial Service
Primerica
We can learn a lot by analyzing, evaluating, discussing, and exploring the methods of high level
companies and their strategy to reach success. Primerica Financial Service is a company that provides
life insurance and investments that help and serve the middle income costumer with the best life
insurance. They called it term life insurance. Primerica has a different approach compared to other
companies; they want to offer the best life insurance to the costumer. Primerica s main goal is to help
other people. It is important to evaluate our own companies without bias and determinate ourselves to
reach excellence.
As a costumer, agent, and assistance manager, I can evaluate Primerica from many different
perspectives. Besides I have also worked in the company called Transamerica, rivalry of Primerica but
they are both very similar in structure.
One of the key points that we have to understand is that the majority of clients of Primerica are middle
income costumers. This means the majority of people don t have a financial knowledge and they don t
have a culture of life insurance habits. Another key point is that agents in Primerica have to have a
license to be able to work as financial advisors, but the majority of them never went to the university
to get some level of financial knowledge.
Primerica is an organization with a MLM (multilevel marketing) strategy. This keeps their employees

Social System in Gabriel Marquez’s Chronicle of a Death...
Social System in Gabriel Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Albert Camus s The Stranger
Like father, like son the old saying goes. And naturally this is so, for if the parent lacks morals,
logically the child will too. Just as parents shape their children, authority figures shape their societies.
Authority figures have great impact on the common people, for if they act in dishonest or fraudulent
manners, the society considers it acceptable to do the same. Such reflections between authority figures
and society are seen throughout Gabriel Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Albert Camus s
The Stranger. With societies constantly looking to authority figures for guidance, Marquez and Camus

Thus, the community does not prepare to show the bishop their support for the Church, but instead in
hopes that the gifts would bring individual benefits. Through Marquez s narration, a reader realizes the
facade that the society creates. By immediately establishing the religious community as a self seeking
body, Marquez paves the way for a parallelism between the authority figures and society.
The religious authority figures referred to within Marquez s novel, specifically the bishop, prove their
hypocrisy according to the morals of Christianity/Catholicism. Commonly accepted, Christianity
teaches a person the qualities of forgiveness, acceptance, and love. Thus, a strong religious leader
teaches his people this behavior andguides the community to live by such ideals. Ironically, the bishop
in Chronicle of A Death Foretold exhibits great apathy toward his people. For some reason that
remains unmentioned throughout the novel, the bishop has an aversion to the Caribbean island. In fact,

The Secret Of Failure Essay
OK, finally we ve reached the end of the story...
You must often read the title of a book or a seminar, How to be successful? , The secret of success? ,

Back to this novel title... Book of Fail . Have you ever failed? Everyday? Now do you know the secret
of failure? What is the biggest secret of failure? You want to know the true failure story of big people?
From my 11 years of failure, I m going to share with you the secrets of failure...
Because the secret of success is too mainstream, this is the secret of failure!!! Secret #1
Failure = Learning process
BAM!!! This is Thomas Edison s 1564th failed experiment...
Argh! We failed again, Sir! Edison s assistant complains.
We didn t fail, man! Edison shouts, we learnt!
Yupz, Thomas Alva Edison...Don s facorite idol had a very positive mindset and mental attitude.

And one more story...a true story, not a hoax...
One time, an IBM employee made a mistake so the company lost $10 million. Suddenly, Tom Watson
(owner of IBM) called the employee to go to his room. I die today, the employee thought.
Entered Tom Watson s room, the employee felt desperate, I m deeply sorry, Sir, I failed. I m willing to
be fired.
Wanna know what Tom Watson said? Fired?!? $10 million was your study cost...now learn from it,
and back to your desk!
After the tragedy, the employee got a valuable lesson, and IBM then got hundreds of millions of

Variola Minor Disease
Cause of Disease
Smallpox can be caused by two different viruses called variola major and variola minor. The most
deadly out of the two is variole major and it is estimated that 30% of the people who get the disease
die. However, variola minor is a lot less deadly and causes death to around 1% of people infected with
the disease.
Transmission of Smallpox
The main reason to why smallpox is so dangerous is because it is an airborne disease meaning that it
can be spread by coughing and sneezing and therefore can be spread quickly. The transmission of
smallpox can also occur due to direct contact with any bodily fluids including blood as well as sharing
or touching contaminated surfaces.
Although humans can catch the smallpox virus, the disease

Harriet Beecher Stowe
Harriet Beecher Stowe is the person I choose for my civil war essay. I choose her for many reasons.
One of the reasons is her background is pretty interesting because she had ten siblings. Another reason
I choose her was because she wanted to end slavery which I think was very important back then. She
also wrote a book about slavery that opened the eyes of people to the problems involving slavery.
These are the reasons I choose Harriet Beecher Stowe. Harriet Beecher Stowe was born in Linchfiled,
1811 and died in 1896. She came from a family of seven brothers and three girls and her as the sixth
child. Her sister s names were Catharine Esther Beecher, Mary Foote Beecher Perkins, and Isabella
Holmes Beecher Hooker and her brother s names ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harriet always loved to read. She read her favorite book, Sir Walter Scott s Lvanhoe seven times in
one month at age 12. She also loved to write. Harriet believed that the purpose in life was to write. In
1852, Harriet wrote the bestseller Uncle Tom s Cabin . This book was about the injustices of slavery. It
was first published in an antislavery newspaper in 40 installments. The first day it appeared in book
form, it sold 3,000 copies also in 1852. By the outbreak of the Civil War, Harriet s book sold over
$3,000,000. Still to this day she has been the most famous Beecher in her family. Some more
interesting facts I have about her family are that Harriet worked at her sister s school. It was there that
she met a handsome man named Calvin E. Stowe. He was a college professor and Harriet ended up
falling in love with him. They married and had seven children. Prior to her children she wrote short
stories to earn money for her and her husband. After the kids were born she still went on writing
novels, essays, children s books, biographies and more. When Harriet would write, she would write at
the kitchen table while the kids ran in and out of the

The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction Essay
A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually
murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in
detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters
like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate
as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a
different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and
delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a
male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession,
therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. The two detectives differ in two
ways; first, they differ in financial status, secondly they differ on how they use violence in their
investigations.
The first difference between an amateur detective and a private detective is their financial statuses. An
amateur detective is an individual who has another job or rather a ... Show more content on

In addition, most of them are always poor. A good example is in the Simple Art of Murder by
Raymond Chandler. Raymond writes that, He is a relatively poor man, or he would not be a detective

short story Trouble is My Business by Phillip Marlowe. This story presents a needy private detective.
When he is hired, he confesses that, I started to get up from my chair, then remembered that business
had been bad for a month and that I needed the money (Marlowe 255). This is an example of a hard

Microbiota Transplant Essay
Fecal Transplantation Therapy (Presentation Outline by Samantha McClenahan)
Slide 1: What is FMT and why is it preformed?
Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a procedure in which fecal matter, or stool, is collected from a
tested donor, mixed with a saline or other solution, strained, and placed in a patient, by colonoscopy,
endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or enema.
The purpose of fecal transplant is to replace good bacteria that has been killed or suppressed, usually
by the use of antibiotics, causing bad bacteria, specifically Clostridium difficile, or C. diff., to over
populate the colon.
C. difficile colitis may be associated with diarrhea, abdominal cramping and sometimes fever and
dehydration from diarrhea may lead to death.

Initial infection treated with an antibiotic that specifically targets the C. difficile organism. Antibiotics
used for the treatment of this infection include metronidazole, vancomycin and fidaxomycin.
Current treatment for FMT is the use of antibiotics; however, the relapse rate it high with over half a
million cases in the use and 15,000 related deaths occurring annually.
In 30 percent of treated individuals, the infection returns within a few days or weeks after finishing the
antibiotic course.
In 2013, the New England Journal of Medicine showed that fecal transplantation is more effective
than oral vancomycin in preventing further recurrences in individuals who have already had recurrent
C. difficile colitis.
As of 2013, fecal transplantation is currently not routinely performed for indications other than
recurrent C. difficile colitis. More research studies are still needed to determine if fecal transplantation
should be performed for other clinical indications. Fecal transplantation for other clinical indications
should be considered experimental, and performed only as part of a research study where your safety

The Epidemic of Affluenza is Sweeping Through America Essay
An epidemic is sweeping all through America. This epidemic has affected just about every individual

is nearly impossible to cure. Medication is useless against it. There is not outright proven immunity to
prevent one from receiving this nasty disease. It can cause symptoms such as stress, overwork, waste,

It seems as if they have everything they might possibly want. Through the years, they have become
obsessed with trying to fulfill themselves and find happiness. They believe buying one more item
would give them eternal happiness yet fails miserably. The pursuit of happiness through wealth is a
common symptom in the affluent which has become an insane obsession.
At the end of the day, the affluent are still not satisfied with their wealth or material items. Source D
provides a great example. Even though the couple has purchased everything they could possibly want,
they still feel something is missing. What they are missing is not a tangible object. It is not something
one could go to a store and buy. They cannot obtain happiness in a nice little box on a store shelf.
There is no price on happiness. Source A believes happiness is desirable in itself and never for the
sake of something else. Nothing can supplement happiness. True happiness is something final and self
sufficient. People with affluenza can never find this happiness through the constant purchasing of
more stuff. Happiness is achieved in many different ways for different individuals but not through
wealth. For example, the mother in Source I begins to understand this when she becomes older one

Analysis Of Malala And The Sealand Lady s Speech
Persuasive Appeals Assignment The first appeal that will be analyzed is logos, the appeal to logic. In
Malala s speech, the constant use of many statistics and facts made the speech much more reasonable
and sensible. For example: And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent
attack in Quetta . Also, Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been
injured. These quotes establish logic in the sense that if one uses statistics or facts, it shows that they
ve done their research and they are aware of the issues happening globally. In the Sealand Lady s
speech, the use of reasoning and common sense is evidently shown through quotes like It is not
pleasant to kill any creature, she agreed, but to pretend that one can live without doing so is self
deception and The essential quality of life is living; the essential quality of living is change; change is
evolution: and we are a part of it. These quotes show that death is inevitable for life to form and
although it s not pleasant, it still has to happen. In addition, whoever is an enemy of change is
essentially an enemy of life because the two fit hand in hand. To conclude, the use of logos in Malala s
speech and the Sealand lady s speech was effective. The second appeal is pathos, the appeal to
emotions. In Malala s speech, her personal experiences were effective in making the readers or
listeners feel sympathetic. For example, she greets everyone

Food Intake 3 Days
The Encyclopedia of Women s Health (2004) defines nutrition as the sum of processes involved with
the consumption of food. The human body depends on nutrients from carbohydrates, proteins, fats,
water, and fiber to function. Nutrition, exercise, and an appropriate diet work cohesively to maintain
that the body is working productively and at full capacity. This week s assignment required the
recording of daily food intakes for a span of three days. Data from each meal was inputted into the

The body needs lipids to generate energy, but a surplus in lipid intake contributes to the development
of heart disease (Nall, 2011). The honey baked ham and chicken that my family enjoyed did have a
fatty film of saturated fat. I also tend to cook with milk and butter that is another saturated fat. On top
of my bread pudding on Saturday was a tablespoon scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Personal Intake
After reviewing foods that provide the body with protein, carbohydrates, and lipids, it was imperative
to review my own personal intakes. My personal intake for the duration of the study was 2011kcal
with my recommended DRI at 2204 kcal. Most of my daily intakes were within the recommended
range, but there are areas within my diet that I need to adjust.
Protein
My protein DRI was to stay within 55 193g of which I consumed 72 g still within the recommend
range for my individual parameters. Proteins are essential for growth, tissue repair, and enzyme
protection (Cespedes, 2012). This project was eye opening as I realized the need to manage and
balance what I eat with my physical activity to offset my consumption intakes.
Complete Protein
It is noteworthy that majority of the meals I consumed centered on complete proteins. Some meals had
both complete protein and incomplete protein such as rice and corn. A complete protein source affords

Video Games As An Art Form Essay
A Case for Video Games as an Art Form Video games are a profound art form, incorporating trades
and mediums that span the artistic spectrum and beyond. To refute this is to ignore decades of rich
history, disregard hours of artful labor, and discredit the immeasurable devotion of many whom
worked to perfect this art form. Although video games may not suit every individual s tastes, one
cannot claim with credibility they possess no artistic merit. My awareness of this concept is
longstanding. From my most juvenile years, I have been captivated by this genre. To be a child and
hold in the palm of your hand what feels like a window to an exhilarating adventure in a limitless
universe is, in short, a riveting experience. However, the rush is not exclusive to children. This digital
magic is a far cry from tag and hopscotch. An enthralling escape from our mundane world entrances a
wide demographic, earning it a greater value than a mere downtime occupant. Video games have
developed a belittling reputation that they do not deserve. The voluntarily ignorant have unjustly
assigned them this connotation. Naturally, with any change, resistance occurs. The innovation that
video games introduced to the arts is unprecedented. That said, it is evident that not all artists are
willing to accept something so radically novel. Even so, why is it that any creator would not welcome
a new creative realm with less limits than ever before? There is but one discernable answer:
Intimidation. It is

Jesus In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Aslan, in the Chronicles of Narnia, represents Jesus for many reasons. One main reason is that Aslan
gives his life to save Edmund in the same way that Jesus sacrificed his own life to save us. Edmund
was known as a traitor and the only way to remove that label was to get blood. Similarly, the only way
to pay the price of sin is for a sinless person to die. Aslan s death itself parallels Jesus . When Aslan
gives himself up for Edmund, the White Witch has him tied up and bound to the table, which is meant
for a traitor. All the creatures on her side mock and beat Aslan. The White Witch calls him Aslan the
Great . In the same way, Jesus gives up his life for us. He is nailed to a cross, which is meant for a
criminal, mocked and beaten. A sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also two girls and two boys, likewise, Noah took two of each animal on the ark. When Lucy
first goes to Narnia she meets Mr. Tumnus who takes her back to his house for tea. He then begins to
play an instrument and while he plays Lucy starts to see creatures dancing in the fire. When she falls
asleep a lion s face jumps out of the fire and fire goes out. This reminds me of when Jesus rebukes
demons and sends them out of people. The White Witch likes to call herself the Queen of Narnia and
think she is more powerful than Aslan but she is not. Likewise, Satan likes to believe that he is more
powerful than Jesus, but he too is not. After Peter, Susan, Lucy, and the Beavers realize that Edmund
is gone and that he most likely is going to the White Witch they frantically pack up and leave the
Beaver s dam. This is similar to when the Israelites flee Egypt in the exodus. Like the Israelites had to
cross the Red Sea, the Pevensies and the Beavers cross the Great River while it is un thawing. The
Witch s wolves are chasing them and drown like the Egyptian soldiers. Mr. Beaver tells Peter, Susan,
and Lucy that only Aslan can save Edmund much like only Jesus can save us. When Aslan goes to the
Witch s castle after he comes back to life, he breathes on the statues to make them come back to life.
This can be taken two different ways. The first is how Jesus brought people back to life. The second is
a metaphor. Our hearts are cold and hard before we know Jesus, like how Narnia is frozen and some of
the creatures are stone, but then Jesus comes into our lives and makes us warm and alive. Like how
when Aslan came to Narnia it became spring. Lastly, the war between Aslan and the White Witch is
like the spiritual warfare going on between God and Satan. She wants the Pevensies and Narnians
killed but Aslan is fighting for

from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in life, we can come
to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at the bottom of
the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own
blood. What exactly determines the words written on this label of hero vs villain? How much comes
from inner predisposition, from personal destiny, from mere interpretation? Is someone obliged to

Nature Emerson Analysis
In Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson, there are many ideas that Emerson explored during the passage.
One is the view we have on the stars. Emerson feels like we do not value the stars as we should. We
would view them in a whole new way if they were only present every a thousand years. We would
have a different opinion of them, and would watch out for them when we knew they would come out.
Another idea that Emerson focuses on in the excerpt is if an individual does have a bad attitude, they
look at nature in a bad way. If they have a good attitude, they look at it in a positive way. One other
idea that Emerson pursues is the idea of the transparent eyeball. We are following the over soul, we
are apart of the spirit. we can see everything, but not everything can see us. The last idea that I will
talk about is the view between adults and children. When children are young, they love to play
outside, be in the cool breeze, or play in the snow. Individuals as they grow to be adults they start to
lose that love. They lose the way nature is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this excerpt his ideas kind of grow to be the same thing. A idea that he talks a lot about in Self
Reliance is accepting yourself. A lot of people find flaws and mistakes in themselves. They get into a
slump, and try to form with society. Accept yourself for who you are, not for what others want you to
be. A second idea that Emerson talks about is finding happiness. He talks about when you put your
and soul into something, it will make you happy. When it turns out good, knowing you have done your
best, is an amazing time where you find happiness. Another idea that he talks about is not worrying
about being judged. Learn after you accept yourself, to not conform with society. Be an individual
who is not scared what others think. Do not let society hold you back from who you are. If you be who
you are individually, you will find life more

There was a specific observation of mention when Child A was in the computer corner playing a water
themed counting game. When estimating the number of objects on the screen, he used his fingers to
count the sea animals, 1, 2,3,4,5, 6 animals and looked at me for confirmation asking, is it 6? . This

Subsequently Child A, within the stages of schema, would experience a new notion of dealing with
numbers. The existing schema does not work as child A has no prior knowledge on counting sea
animals. Thus disequilibrium arises until Child A is able to assimilate and accommodate the
contemporary knowledge and attain equilibrium. Hence, Child A uses his fingers to count aloud and
signify each finger with a specific number. For future recommendation, I would have Child A

David And Goliath Essay
I used to attend a private catholic school back in the Philippines until I came here when I was eight
years old, and I do not remember the story about David and Goliath. Unless my teacher talked about
during religious class then I completely spaced out. However, since learning about the different David
s, it has become one of my favorite stories due to each figure s place in the story line. The story is
about a young brave shepherd named David who saves Israel by challenging and killing a giant named
Goliath with nothing more than a slingshot and a bag of stones ( The Human Form in Michelangelo s
David and Bernini s David , Rybicki). The two David s that stood out to me the most were
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni s and Gian Lorenzo Bernini s. For Michelangelo s
version, he sculpted an idealistic, flawless, and god like character that is focusing his attention on
Goliath and building up that energy to fight with his sling ready in his left hand. As for Bernini s, his
character is not as heavily built as Michelangelo s, however, as it ... Show more content on

the liveliness that is the main characteristic of art during the Baroque era. His statue has expressed
movement which is shows through David bringing back the sling, preparing to injure his enemy.
However, both artists present man in a perfect form by presenting them with beauty, strength, and

Congress Most Influential Policy Blunder
Aside from the decision to assign the project to the DOE in the first place, Congress most influential
policy blunder was picking the Yucca Mountain site and leaving no back ups or alternatives through
the NWPAA. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as
Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led
to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make
due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project.
Had the DOE been both capable of and allowed to finish its own siting of the repository it would have
likely kept the decision open until scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what
qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance
standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). This superficial performance standard
was in part responsible for the shut down of Yucca Mountain as its authenticity and scientific accuracy
came into question along with the report of falsified documents. The decision in the NWPAA to pick
Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between
groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear
reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the
entire state against the federal government and other states. Nevada residents are so opposed to the
completion of the facility, polled at 76% in 2007 (Las Vegas Review Journal), that it has become a
requirement of anyone hoping to hold federal office in the state to feel the same sentiment. Because of
this governors, senators, and representatives from Nevada all view the permanent closing of Yucca as
a priority and adamantly oppose motions that would see the facility operational. Congressmen from
Nevada try

The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing
Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as
the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western
states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward
settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil,
plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing
districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public
lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land
grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be
preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management)
Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers,
wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Farmers
say public livestock grazing production is economically beneficial. Wildlife and environmental
activist argue that this grazing harms the wildlife and their ecosystems. The government sees other
ways to use the land that would increase economic benefits. BLM is trying their best to make sure
everyone is happy. I should be allowed to research the controversy that surrounds livestock grazing on
public lands because:

Speech Codes Theory Essay
I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds
of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their
communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be
discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical
commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the
tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with
an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded
principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical
statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the
earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was
to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally
distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had
been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted
and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these
studies were cited in

Financing The Failing U.s. Healthcare System
Financing the Failing U.S. Healthcare System
The three principle parties involved in the U.S. Healthcare system are the consumer, provider and
insurer. The provider includes the hospitals, clinics, doctors, nurses and pharmacies that provides a
service; the consumer is the individual who receives the medical service and supplies the money; and
the insurer is a third party intermediary between the provider and the consumer which accept money
from a pool of consumers and reimburse the providers. Like any transaction, there is a certain degree
of risk associated for members of the different parties. This risk is based upon variables within the
U.S. healthcare model including the method of, and who is reimbursing the providers.
The method of reimbursement determines which party will bear the greater financial risk and can lead
to an excess supply of medical services that drive up prices and provide no additional benefit to
individual consumers because of producer and consumer moral hazard. To maintain a sound
healthcare market government regulation is required in the current U.S. healthcare system because it
would otherwise fail.
The following paragraphs will discuss the methods and effects of reimbursement in the U.S.
healthcare system, which party bears the financial burden, issues of moral hazard and cost control
mechanisms, and the role of government regulation in the healthcare market.
Fixed payments are pre determined amounts that providers receive regardless of the

Similarities Between Constantine The Great And Qin Shihuangdi Constantine was called Constantine the Great and Qin Shihuangdi was the emperor of the Qin dynasty; each of these men was leaders of their country and each is similar and as much as they may be similar in their title s they were different. Constantine the Great was a man that lead an empire that persecuted Christians, which he later put an end to the persecution of Christians. Qin Shihuangdi was a leader in his country, he had interests in magic, he dished out cruel punishments, ruled with strict laws, and was believed to have created shrewd military policies. Each of these leaders was seen as good leaders, however, they did use harsh methods to control their people and rule their country. A tomb for Qin Shihuangdi was constructed, which had terracotta soldiers and horses to protect his tomb (Hoh, 2001, p. 35). Larceny Larceny November 27, 2013 Larceny is defined as the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from his or her possession with intent to convert them to the takers own use. To say it plainly, larceny is stealing someone else s property. No matter what reasons there are behind stealing, it is still wrong. I imagine there are many reasons for a person to decide that it is worth the risk to steal something. There are certain people who do not think this is wrong to steal someone else s property. A large part of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming when they steal. Most people who commit larceny do not look at the big picture and realize what they are doing and how it affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An employer can prevent fraud in this situation by informing the employees that they do audit the till at the end of the shift and will find out if there is something wrong going on. This method of cash larceny is more dangerous because an employee would have to put in a personal check to cover the balance so the till would balance . The employee would be no better off than before they stole the cash because their check will eventually be cashed and that makes no sense to do something like that. The company could spot the employees check during reconciliation and catch on to what they are doing even though they are replacing the money it is steal larceny at the time they take the money. A company can avoid this situation by making it company policy that an employee cannot cash a check or pay for goods while they are on the clock working. This policy would make it easier to detect when fraud is actually happening this way. When people commit larceny there are always lasting effects. One of the major effects of people committing larceny by shoplifting or embezzling is on the economy. Stores have to make up for the things that people shoplift so they raise their prices for on the items being stolen therefore causing higher prices for honest paying people. • 5. Carol Bhakos Abraham Of Many Faiths Analysis Liam McConnell Dr. Hall Western Religious Traditions 18 September 2016 Abraham of Many Faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most distinct and well known religions in the world. They have persisted for generation upon generation and have by far the largest number of followers of all religions in the world. They also share some interesting similarities in their foundational stories. Where did these faiths originate, and why do they share many aspects while differing on still more? Carol Bakhos lays this out very well in The Family of Abraham and explains her thoughts on the similarities and differences the influential figure of Abraham shares within these three faiths. Abraham is recognized globally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, over the course of two chapters, Bhakos discusses two reservations put into one: we should not identify Ishmael and Isaac or Sarah and Hagar as separate lineages, with some being worse than others. What Bakhos is trying to explain is that over time, Judaism and Christianity have placed distinctions between Isaac/Ishmael and Sarah/Hagar, effectively forming a way of thinking that places some people over others, while in Islam both sets of people are treated more or less as equals. That is not the case in Islam, however, where both sons, along with their mothers live in the abode of Abraham, (Bakhos 153). In Judaism and Christianity, Isaac is the sole important figure while Ishmael becomes somewhat irrelevant after Hagar is cast out by Abraham on the orders of Sarah. Both of these religions also portray Hagar as, at first, an insolent woman who looks down on Sarah because she is the one giving birth to the first son of Abraham, but they both later come back and give her a much more docile role after being spoken to by the angel in the wilderness. Other texts from these same religions, however, disagree with this and even go so far as to say Sarah was never even mad at Hagar, rather, Ishmael was the one that caused her to throw them out. Regardless, however, these two religions place very clear distinctions between the four people and effectively make two distinct branches, intimating that some people in the family line are better than others. I do not agree at all with this belief and I agree with Bakhos in that it should not be something people put their faith into. While it is true that all four people have different roles and have varying levels of importance to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, I believe that the view of Islam that all these individuals should be regarded ... • 7. Compare Beowulf And Forrest Gump Nowadays many people believe that Beowulf and Forrest Gump are similar because they both considered as heroes of the time in which they lived. First of all, Beowulf considered as a hero because he is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is brave, and at the same time, a decent hero. There is no reason to doubt his merits. Forrest Gump is also considered as a hero because he thinks about faith, love, honesty, patriotism. He is a kind person who remained faithful to his family, friends, and his country. He is a man who always carries God in his soul, and lives according to the laws of Christian love to God and to the nearest ones. Both Beowulf and Forrest Gump do things that other people consider impossible. Beowulf and Forrest Gump can be compared as heroes representing their time period and cultures. Beowulf is a medieval heroic epic. The poem originated on the basis of ancient traditions related to pagan times. The poem represent an early example of precisely moral heroism, but not the one that is caused by the desire for fame and power. The main character of the poem, Beowulf, is capable of sacrificing himself and courage in the name of justice. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to protect others. His courage is shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane s enemies. By being self assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the time Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, I ve never known fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me. (ll. 2511 2515). He feels no fear, is confident in fighting the dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his bravery by saying, When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this monster. (ll. 2525 2534) In his actions, Beowulf s bravery is clearly shown throughout the poem. The Poisonwood Bible as a Catalog of Romanticism Essay The Poisonwood Bible as a Catalog of Romanticism In The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver, the romantic standards that are associated with literature during the American Renaissance are evident. This popular novel, a New York Times Bestseller, embodies the concept of Romanticism with its gothic darkness, themes of loss and nostalgia, and a strong captivity narrative. The presence of a wise child and recurring double language are essential to the plot of the story. • 10. A Theology Of Leadership For Christ s Church Theology is an attempt to explain God and his relationship to our world and humanity, while leadership is the human endeavor or capacity to lead or guide others through an operation, activity, task, or even through life. To build a theology of leadership is to build on the interrelation between these two. In order to develop a true theology of leadership, thoughtful reflection on Biblical scripture and the leadership of those called by God must be examined. What I assert is that of all the models that we have examined that Servant Leadership is a theology of leadership for Christ centered pastoral leadership within Christ s church. Northouse defines leadership as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Leadership as it works through those in pastoral leadership in the church then is a process whereby an individual who has been influenced by the works of Christ as they have journeyed the path of faith and come to embrace and embody Christ and the gospel message within their own life then in acceptance of Christ s call upon their life goes out to influence, invite, and empower others to embrace and embody the gospel in their own lives. For the not yet established church it was Christ who was the original influencer of a ragtag group of disciples and followers who came to embrace and embody His gospel message and through which Christ would build His church. Through Marquez s narration, a reader realizes the facade that the society creates. By immediately establishing the religious community as a self seeking body, Marquez paves the way for a parallelism between the authority figures and society. The religious authority figures referred to within Marquez s novel, specifically the bishop, prove their hypocrisy according to the morals of Christianity/Catholicism. Commonly accepted, Christianity teaches a person the qualities of forgiveness, acceptance, and love. Thus, a strong religious leader teaches his people this behavior andguides the community to live by such ideals. Ironically, the bishop in Chronicle of A Death Foretold exhibits great apathy toward his people. For some reason that remains unmentioned throughout the novel, the bishop has an aversion to the Caribbean island. In fact, he only blesses the town due to mere obligation. For example: And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent attack in Quetta . Also, Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. These quotes establish logic in the sense that if one uses statistics or facts, it shows that they ve done their research and they are aware of the issues happening globally. • 30. Video Games As An Art Form Essay A Case for Video Games as an Art Form Video games are a profound art form, incorporating trades and mediums that span the artistic spectrum and beyond. To refute this is to ignore decades of rich history, disregard hours of artful labor, and discredit the immeasurable devotion of many whom worked to perfect this art form. Although video games may not suit every individual s tastes, one cannot claim with credibility they possess no artistic merit. My awareness of this concept is longstanding. From my most juvenile years, I have been captivated by this genre. To be a child and hold in the palm of your hand what feels like a window to an exhilarating adventure in a limitless universe is, in short, a riveting experience. However, the rush is not exclusive to children. This digital magic is a far cry from tag and hopscotch. An enthralling escape from our mundane world entrances a wide demographic, earning it a greater value than a mere downtime occupant. Video games have developed a belittling reputation that they do not deserve. The voluntarily ignorant have unjustly assigned them this connotation. Naturally, with any change, resistance occurs. The innovation that video games introduced to the arts is unprecedented. That said, it is evident that not all artists are willing to accept something so radically novel. Even so, why is it that any creator would not welcome a new creative realm with less limits than ever before? There is but one discernable answer: Intimidation. It is ... • 34. Jesus In The Chronicles Of Narnia Aslan, in the Chronicles of Narnia, represents Jesus for many reasons. One main reason is that Aslan gives his life to save Edmund in the same way that Jesus sacrificed his own life to save us. Edmund was known as a traitor and the only way to remove that label was to get blood. Similarly, the only way to pay the price of sin is for a sinless person to die. Aslan s death itself parallels Jesus . When Aslan gives himself up for Edmund, the White Witch has him tied up and bound to the table, which is meant for a traitor. All the creatures on her side mock and beat Aslan. The White Witch calls him Aslan the Great . In the same way, Jesus gives up his life for us. He then begins to play an instrument and while he plays Lucy starts to see creatures dancing in the fire. When she falls asleep a lion s face jumps out of the fire and fire goes out. This reminds me of when Jesus rebukes demons and sends them out of people. The White Witch likes to call herself the Queen of Narnia and think she is more powerful than Aslan but she is not. Likewise, Satan likes to believe that he is more powerful than Jesus, but he too is not. After Peter, Susan, Lucy, and the Beavers realize that Edmund is gone and that he most likely is going to the White Witch they frantically pack up and leave the Beaver s dam. This is similar to when the Israelites flee Egypt in the exodus. Like the Israelites had to cross the Red Sea, the Pevensies and the Beavers cross the Great River while it is un thawing. The Witch s wolves are chasing them and drown like the Egyptian soldiers. Mr. Beaver tells Peter, Susan, and Lucy that only Aslan can save Edmund much like only Jesus can save us. When Aslan goes to the Witch s castle after he comes back to life, he breathes on the statues to make them come back to life. This can be taken two different ways. The first is how Jesus brought people back to life. The second is a metaphor. Our hearts are cold and hard before we know Jesus, like how Narnia is frozen and some of the creatures are stone, but then Jesus comes into our lives and makes us warm and alive. Like how when Aslan came to Narnia it became spring. Lastly, the war between Aslan and the White Witch is like the spiritual warfare going on between God and Satan. Don John, coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that rejected him from the very moment of birth. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own blood. What exactly determines the words written on this label of hero vs villain? • 36. Nature Emerson Analysis In Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson, there are many ideas that Emerson explored during the passage. One is the view we have on the stars. Emerson feels like we do not value the stars as we should. We would view them in a whole new way if they were only present every a thousand years. We would have a different opinion of them, and would watch out for them when we knew they would come out. Another idea that Emerson focuses on in the excerpt is if an individual does have a bad attitude, they look at nature in a bad way. If they have a good attitude, they look at it in a positive way. One other idea that Emerson pursues is the idea of the transparent eyeball. We are following the over soul, we are apart of the spirit. we can see everything, but not everything can see us. The last idea that I will talk about is the view between adults and children. When children are young, they love to play outside, be in the cool breeze, or play in the snow. He talks about when you put your and soul into something, it will make you happy. When it turns out good, knowing you have done your best, is an amazing time where you find happiness. Another idea that he talks about is not worrying about being judged. Learn after you accept yourself, to not conform with society. Be an individual who is not scared what others think. David And Goliath Essay I used to attend a private catholic school back in the Philippines until I came here when I was eight years old, and I do not remember the story about David and Goliath. Unless my teacher talked about during religious class then I completely spaced out. However, since learning about the different David s, it has become one of my favorite stories due to each figure s place in the story line. The story is about a young brave shepherd named David who saves Israel by challenging and killing a giant named Goliath with nothing more than a slingshot and a bag of stones ( The Human Form in Michelangelo s David and Bernini s David , Rybicki). The two David s that stood out to me the most were Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni s and Gian Lorenzo Bernini s. Congress Most Influential Policy Blunder Aside from the decision to assign the project to the DOE in the first place, Congress most influential policy blunder was picking the Yucca Mountain site and leaving no back ups or alternatives through the NWPAA. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project. Had the DOE been both capable of and allowed to finish its own siting of the repository it would have likely kept the decision open until scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). This superficial performance standard was in part responsible for the shut down of Yucca Mountain as its authenticity and scientific accuracy came into question along with the report of falsified documents. The decision in the NWPAA to pick Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the entire state against the federal government and other states. Nevada residents are so opposed to the completion of the facility, polled at 76% in 2007 (Las Vegas Review Journal), that it has become a requirement of anyone hoping to hold federal office in the state to feel the same sentiment. • 42. The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil, plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management) Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers, wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Farmers say public livestock grazing production is economically beneficial. Wildlife and environmental activist argue that this grazing harms the wildlife and their ecosystems. The government sees other ways to use the land that would increase economic benefits. BLM is trying their best to make sure everyone is happy. • 43. Speech Codes Theory Essay I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). • 44. Financing The Failing U.s. Healthcare System Financing the Failing U.S. Healthcare System The three principle parties involved in the U.S. Healthcare system are the consumer, provider and insurer. The provider includes the hospitals, clinics, doctors, nurses and pharmacies that provides a service; the consumer is the individual who receives the medical service and supplies the money; and the insurer is a third party intermediary between the provider and the consumer which accept money from a pool of consumers and reimburse the providers. Like any transaction, there is a certain degree of risk associated for members of the different parties. This risk is based upon variables within the U.S. healthcare model including the method of, and who is reimbursing the providers. The method of reimbursement determines which party will bear the greater financial risk and can lead to an excess supply of medical services that drive up prices and provide no additional benefit to individual consumers because of producer and consumer moral hazard. To maintain a sound healthcare market government regulation is required in the current U.S. healthcare system because it would otherwise fail. The following paragraphs will discuss the methods and effects of reimbursement in the U.S. healthcare system, which party bears the financial burden, issues of moral hazard and cost control mechanisms, and the role of government regulation in the healthcare market.
