African Americans in Baseball
Michael Rizzo
Murray, Chass (2004). Game Fights Trend of Fewer Blacks. The New York Times
This article is about the declination of blacks in the game of baseball. It begins by talking about how
successful blacks were in baseball from 1981 1997. Blacks such as Tony Gwynn, Tim Raines, and
Gary Sheffield were winning National League Batting Titles 16 out of those 17 years. From 1998
2004, only one black player has won the batting title. As a huge baseball fan, I never knew that stat
and find it very interesting. The article also entails that black players had won the National League
MVP award quite often from 1949 1970. More recently from 1985 2004, black players had won the
MVP 11 times, with Barry Bonds winning 6 of the 11. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Coleman was a big reason why the RBI program, which stands for Reviving Baseball in the Inner
Cities, has become a popular program to grab the attention of blacks at a young age to engage in the
game of baseball. This program has produced a number of current Major League Players such as Carl
Crawford, Coco Crisp and Wil Nieves. About 190 RBI programs have been started domestically and at
military bases around the country. Major League Baseball is also giving Little League Baseball
$250,000 a year to expand their leagues to urban programs. They have also constructed a baseball
academy in Compton, California to try to duplicate the success baseball has had in influencing Latin
American countries to the game. I think that this article, for being almost ten years old, is still pretty
accurate and agree with all of its points. There are still not enough blacks in the game of baseball
today. There are also not enough black managers in Major League Baseball which could have an
impact on the game too. I think that RBI programs across America are gradually starting to help.
Recently, Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees donated over 1 million dollars to open an RBI
program in Harlem, New York. This goes to show that white players are even noticing the problem
and are trying to do something about it. The League has very few black ambassadors today and can
definitely use more to influence young blacks. The most popular players today are either American

United States And The Civil War
US Civil War
United States of America was formed as a result of the revolution that continued from 1776 to 1783.
After that, United States was divided into two wings/ parts that are the southern and the northern parts.
Then conflict between the two aroused because the northern and the southern societies were totally
different of each other in terms of economic structure, social class, politics and other social matters
especially slavery. The civil war, that started in 1861 and ended in 1865, was the result of the
unending conflict between the southern and the northern societies. The main issue that became the
cause of conflict was slavery and the oppression of the labor class in the southern societies of the
United States and the northern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the southern societies comprised of best suited agricultural lands and had complete
hold on the agricultural needs of the states and also exported it to the European countries. In this
society, there was great racial discrimination. The whites were the owners of the lands and they felt no
need to establish the industrial culture because their lands were very profitable for them. Another
reason for this was that the owners did not work and had the slaves that prepared the crop, harvested
it, and supplied it to the markets. In short, slaves were responsible for the take care of the crops and
the owners treated them brutally. They tortured them physically, emotionally, did not provide them
with food and forced them to work all the time (Boritt, 1992). They were also punished harshly for
their little mistakes due to which many slaves died as well. So there was great violation of labor rights
and also human rights that triggered the seeds of hate and rebellion. In addition to it, the northern
societies also supported the elimination of slavery.
Reasons of Inevitability of War
The US civil war was inevitable due to the three main issues that had created wide gap and extreme
stiffness between the two societies of United States. The most important of them was slavery. The
economy of the southern part of United States depended solely on the hard work

UNC Communication Problems
Language and communication problems may lead to patient dissatisfaction, poor comprehension and
adherence, and lower quality of care. This is very important for the
UNC organization and their increasing population of immigrants from Ghana and Nigeria. In Ghana,
more than 250 languages and dialects are spoken (ghanaembassy.nl, n.d.) with 520 being spoken in
Nigeria (ethnologue.com, n.d.). This organization is meeting the CLAS Standards of 5, 6, 7 by
offering language assistance services and ensuring the competence of their interpreters without the use
of family members. As Mr. Brice said in our interview, that sometimes the only comforting thing to a
patient in the hospital, is the sound of the interpreter speaking their language. It allows ... Show more

By decreasing the obesity rate, the patient health outcome is increased through nutrition, healthier
diets, and education. It can lower health care costs because of the potential of decreased chronic
diseases related to obesity. This can have a huge impact on a community struggling under poverty.
Children growing up healthier because of diet changes and education initiatives taught early on can
impact the organization by achieving a health care goal of ultimately improve the long term health of a
community. Another benefit is in the organization s efforts in cultural diversity and the African
American community. Through community education and hospital programs, UNC is meeting the
need for a greater cultural competency for the increased ethnic patient population. In an era of
increasing patient choice, hospitals must focus on improving care to retain patients and increase
patient satisfaction. Cultural competency builds trust and understanding between patients and
providers. Being culturally competent and providing language assistance are valuable tools in the
process to provide quality care for diverse populations. Increased patient morale and trust comes from
being understood, respected and being treated with culturally competent care. Trust translates into a
long term relationship between the patient and the hospital. A more satisfied patient will lead to
positive word of mouth

Hurston Vernacular
One of the most unique aspects of Hurston s novel is her juxtaposition of vernacular and non
vernacular speech. This deliberate division is clearly drawn from the beginning: the first words of the
book read, Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board, while Janie s first words are, Aw,
pretty god, Ah m tryin to soak some uh de tiredness and de dirt outa mah feet (1, 4). As the narrator
herself explains, there are many moments where the character don t know the words for all this, but
[they know] the feeling (80). Illustrating the chasm between what characters feel and how they
express (or don t express) themselves, this theme of unvoiced thought versus spoken word plays a
crucial role in the novel. Through the distinct creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel, the horizon symbolizes one s personal volitions and wishes, illustrating the
potential for a better life. Just as the literal horizon seems to connect the sky and the earth, so Hurston
s metaphorical horizon connects the life that people lead and the life they want to lead. The
importance of free will and therefore, of freely dreaming and wishing, is a central theme in Their Eyes
were Watching God, so important that the acting symbol representing one s personal ambition acts as
figurative bookends to the novel. The book begins by saying that [wishes] sail forever toward the
horizon, and ends by describing that same horizon being pulled in like a great fish net (1, 193).
Through the horizon, Hurston continually highlights the importance of that great American ideal of

A Comparative Essay On Hope
A Comparative Essay on Hope In Troubled Times and
Summary
Written by Bob Goudswaard, David Van Heemst, and Mark Vander Vennen Hope in Troubled Times:
A New Vision for Confronting Global Crises, is a compelling book that captures the attention of any
reader especially when we live in such troubling times. The Forward was written by none other than
Christian Leader Desmond Tutu who opposed the apartheid in South Africa. Despite the cheery title
this book was no easy read what so ever. The book covered topics cush as Worldwide Poverty,
Environmental Degradation and Widespread Terrorism, just to name a few. The authors of this book
had an interesting approach to laying these topics out, going in to great detail. Writing from a more
realist approach the authors claimed not to be optimist, which was evident and at times they seemed
slightly pessimistic. Throughout the book the authors made excellent use of many of our cultural
problems pointing out their ideological roots. But before they did that they took to time to explain in
great lengths what ideology really is and how it came about. It is more than just the dictionary
definition: the body of doctrine, myth or beliefs that guide an individual, social movement, institution,
class, or large group (Dictionary.com). However, the explained how good ideas with good intentions
and legitimate goals can over time become ideological without realizing it. Even goal like the

ABA Intervention
It is important to establish and maintain effective communication, professionalism, and a scientific
relationship with clients. It is essential to always preserve the relationship because it is vital to the
client s success of treatment. It is also imperative to consider the way in which information is
delivered to clients and their family or caregivers. One must eliminate jargoning while attempting to
communicate with clients. The use of scientific terminology of a particular study can become lost
when engaging with a client or family members. By eliminating jargoning we are reaching them in a
way that is easily understood by those not proficient in those terms of the field. Those that understand
the intervention are more likely to adhere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When evaluating a client you are wondering and determining the type of treatment or intervention you
would like to introduce. As each client is different, what works for client A may not be effective with
client B. In determining the type of intervention there should be a certain level of research along with
the gained professional and educational knowledge obtained. While researching treatments there are
bound to be a multitude of fad treatments. It is important to research and steer away from alternate
treatments also known as AltTs. These treatments are those that attempt to mimic ABA interventions
but are not scientifically found. There has been little or no research provided, they have no scientific
data, or they may be unsupported. Very few if any have cohesive research studies on entire treatment
packages. Using any of these treatments would be deemed unethical. That is why research is key. A lot
of AltTs disguise themselves as ABA; when in fact ABA is a science and science is the intellectual and
practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and
natural world through observation and experiment. ABA seeks to understand and alter behaviors by
observation, study, and proven scientific techniques. Using such treatments could, potentially, do more
harm than good. We must remember to respect our practice and bestow our best interest and maintain

Technology Giant- Adobe Corporation
In 2013, technology giant Adobe Corporation faced the biggest security disaster in its history;
computer hackers stole three million customer credit card records including source codes from various
Adobe products. This disaster shows what may happen to technology companies and how they may
face reputational challenge as well as financial risk if computer system is not secured. Security
disasters between Adobe and cloud computing environments have numerous differences. Security
disasters in cloud computing environments can destroy all of the user data which can eventually
destroy the business of that particular company. Cloud computing extends the context of technology
beyond the imagination; it can be described as a large number of connected computers which can be
accessed through the internet which has numerous benefits, such as storing data, collaborating with a
team, saving time and saving money. As technological business is evolving rapidly, security concerns
become the biggest headache for corporate leaders and also become a large area to research.
Eventually, most of the corporate data centers are being replaced by this new computing environment
and have become a most cost effective enterprise computer network for all kinds of users from
corporate to personal. An increased number of cloud computing networks have huge security
challenges. Giant technology companies like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are aware of the

Societal Norms Of Teenage Pregnancy
Societal norms discourage sexual behavior in teenagers, however, it is found that many high school
students have had sex; and many times, there are no types of contraception used. According to
Mollborn (2017), it is found that 1 in 7 of these teenage girls become mothers. Teenage pregnancy has
many negative lifelong implications. When a teenager becomes pregnant they are forced to make
some very tough choices, and no matter which decision they make about the outcome of their
pregnancy, their life will be changed forever. There is a domino effect that takes place when a teen

By allowing a wanting person to adopt the baby, the teen keeps their own freedom for their day to day
life, however, the feeling of freedom may not be the key to happiness forever. The biological bond
between the mother and child is not broken when a baby is given up for adoption, this is evident in the
number of individuals seeking reconnection with their biological families increasing. The most life
changing choice the pregnant teen could make is either raising the baby herself, getting rid of the baby
permanently, or giving the baby to another family to raise. No matter what choice the expecting teen
makes, her life and the life of the baby s father has been changed forever. Support is the greatest
requirement when making life changing decisions. Not all teenagers that find themselves pregnant
have support from family and friends. Some teens may even be fearful of the consequences they may
face when those around them find out they are expecting. Depending on the teen s location, it is not
always possible to meet face to face with a support person or group which could help them connect
with people going through the same thing. There are phone support groups in place but this is not
always a very successful communication link when making such a major decision. Each teenager has
their own individual needs and without knowing them

Culture Is Unique And Unparalleled
Culture is the establishment on which somebody bases his or her life. It is the world around us and
what we do within it. It is part of the identity that describes us, the experiences that make us, us.
Individuals originate from an ethnic foundation all around the globe. In this paper, I will clarify the
genuine importance of culture, state different culture s people practice and provide a few examples
from the movie Namesake.
Every culture is unique. Over the years, it is noticeable that culture has been declining in many
countries. Individuals ethical qualities are underneath typical societal principles which is the reason
the more established eras are insulted by the way things are presently and feel exasperates towards
society. However, in India culture still runs strong. India s astounding diversity of culture is unique
and unparalleled. Hinduism is the religion of the larger part of individuals in India. Their religion is
intensely rehearsed and enforced. Praying and family values are extremely important prices of Indian
culture. They pray to multiple gods and goddesses and fast on certain religious holidays. Fasting is a
kind of ritual meant to purify the body and the mind and build up the nature of separation and
composure. Faithful Hindus observe fasting in uncommon events as a sign of admiration to their own
divine beings. In an Indian culture, after a person dies, it is considered impure to touch its body. After
the individual is dead the relatives wears all

Bernini and Borromini: The Two Faces of the Baroque
Rivalry pushes man to become better, to improve, to try and reach incredible levels of perfection. In
art, rivalry between geniuses has often resulted in masterpiece. Indeed, it was a rivalry between two
men that shaped beautiful and modern nature of seventeenth century Baroque Rome. The story of
Bernini and Borromini, and their impacts on Baroque architecture, is one of the most dominant
periods of time in the history of Rome.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini spent their professional lives locked in a complex
rivalry that spans the duration of the seventeenth century. The profound differences between the lives
and personalities of these two, reflected in work still evident in Rome today, have been a hotbed for
debate and praise. Always a competition, Bernini and Borromini have produced some of the most
beautiful staples in Roman architecture, sculpture and space. The stark contrast in fundamental design
principle, shown most prominently in the sites of Borromini s San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, and ...

The Dangers of Tanning Essay
Spring is finally here, and Spring Break and the Senior Prom are around corner. The teenagers and the
college kids are planning a drive to the tanning salons or a day at the beach. The media has instilled in
women that tan skin is a sign of youth and sex appeal. Some people go to the tanning salons and
others spend hours outside in the sun to achieve the sun goddess look. Many don t realize the dangers
that come with the sun or a box with light bulbs that has more UVA radiation than the sun does. From

The Structure of a Financial Crisis Essay
The Structure of a Financial Crisis
INTRODUCTION
The year 2001 had been unlucky for Turkey. Apart from the crisis in 1994 and November 2000, the
country had to face another financial crisis, causing problems in the management of its economy. Why
does a country delve deep into financial crisis? What are the possible immediate triggers for both the
current and potential new crises? What precautions should be taken for the key issues like the fragility
of the financial and banking system, belated reforms and privatisation, rampant corruption, exchange
rate policy? And how can the governments satisfy the markets and people to undertake these reforms?

However, unlike the Transition Economies, Turkey embarked on a prospective plan to privatise a
major part of the public sector in the mid 80 s and laws enacting and enabling the privatisation of the
State Owned Enterprises (SOE) in late 1985, was an important breakthrough. In the 1990 s
privatisation went ahead but caused disappointment in many sectors. Most privatised firms could not
improve their performance and some that succeeded, had been profitable already as SOEs. But that
was not the only problem the country had to face. Turkey had already begun to face significant
problems regarding the Privatisation Policy in the 1990 s. These mentioned problems not only aroused
from the aggregate demand concerning the SOE, and the negative effect of investment but the ongoing
debate carried by the opposing political parties in the Parliament.
The governments have overcome several difficulties and successfully resumed privatisation in the
beginning of the second decade. Though the outcome was promising, the program proceeded more
slowly than the original plan. In 1993 for example, a net revenue of US$ 543 millions was raised
through several privatised firms including two electric companies, two communications equipment
manufacturers, a supermarket chain and four cement factories. In 1994 a total of approximately US$
412 million was

If Stonewall products are perceived less competitive in the market, it would in turn lead to the
adjustment of the human resource demand for production.
Technology advancement enables the company to obtain better competitive advantages through cost
reduction resulted from improved production. Associating with the introduction of new technology,
different profiles of workforce may be required to perform the job. The supply and demand of human
resource must be carefully planned in such scenario. In Stonewall case, senior management may need
to consider what new technology could be adopted for its production.
In the last 3 decades, the enforcement of labour related legislations and regulations is also an external
factor impacts on HR planning. Those legislations govern how a company recruits, selects, promotes,
trains and compensates its employees. As an example, employment equity needs to be considered
during the HR planning process. Besides, the increase of minimum wages will affect company s
decision in expanding its workforce. Moreover, as Stonewall s employees are unionized, it will limit
the flexibility of Stonewall to make drastic decisions to lay off its employees even under very critical
situations. And unionized employees will receive higher wages which will again impact Stonewall s
operational cost.

Police Brutality Over The Years
It feels as if nothing has changed about police brutality over the years. The usual cycle is that juries
acquit the police, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. One of the most broadcasted
cases of police brutality, was the beating of Rodney King. On the night of March 2, 1991, a bystander
named George Holiday, videotaped the moment when five officers used excess force on an African
American man named Rodney King, beating him with batons as he struggled on the ground. Also, it
was recorded that an officer stomped on King s shoulder causing his head to hit hard against the
asphalt. Holiday sent the videotape to a local TV station and soon sent shock waves around the world,
catapulting police brutality and race relations in the United States to center stage. Most viewers who
watched the tape revealed the brutal and senseless beating of a hopeless drunk. After debating for
seven days over the fate of the officers, on April 29, 1992, the clerk announced the final verdict, the
five officers were not guilty. The African American community in Los Angeles were outraged when
they heard the decision that the five officers were found innocent the following year. The decision
triggered three days of violent riots causing 54 people to die, 7,000 people to get arrested and costing
the city millions of dollars for damages. During the riots, blacks would use baseball bats to batter cars

Preservation Of Wetland Conservation Protection Laws,...
Introduction Wetlands are one of the most biologically diverse and productive ecosystems on the
earth. While they only occupy a very small percentage of land area, wetlands can be located all over
the planet, ranging from near the northern and southern poles all the way to the tropics. Many
biological, chemical and physical properties of wetlands allow them to provide various functions to
surrounding ecosystems, and humans have found personal value from several of these ecological
functions. Unfortunately, a history of exploitation of wetland services has led to their destruction and
degradation. The loss of wetland area has consequences for many aspects of the environment that are
tied closely with the functions of wetlands. However, the values of wetlands are now being recognized
worldwide, and have led to the installment and enforcement of wetland conservation, protection laws,
regulations, and management plans [Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007].
Definitions In order to appreciate the many functions and values of wetlands, it is essential to
understand what a wetland actually is. Wetlands can be found in all climate zones, ranging from the
tropics to the tundra, while only occupying 4 6 percent of the earth s land area [Mitra et al., 2005].
Wetlands, as ecotones between terrestrial and aquatic systems, have many unique features that set
them apart from other natural ecosystems, including the presence of standing water for extended

dealing with disruptive situations, which supports student achievement (www.knowconflict.com,
2006). Thus students who practice effective conflict management skills, help to create a positive
environment where students can focus on learning. (www.knowconflict.com, 2006). Additionally,
exposure to conflict resolution skills by disseminating attitudes, knowledge, and skills that deter
violence throughout the school day, may result in more peaceful resolutions of conflict and fewer
episodes of violence both in and out of school (Mauricio, Dillman Carpentier, Horan, 2005).
Items Used
The questions selected are used to not only help identify how students deal with conflict, but how
often they display unconstructive conflict management behaviors as well. Their responses will serve
as a transition into conflict management activities aimed to provide students with the knowledge,
skills, and practice necessary to choose alternative, constructive behaviors when faced with conflict

Switching policy of different companies is different. Like minimum and maximum amount switched
between fund options are different in different companies and switching charges are also different.
Systematic Transfer Plan (STP): This option allows the customers to enter and exit the equity market
not abruptly, at once, but slowly at different times and at different levels. This has the effect of
averaging out the risks associated with the equity market, thus reducing the overall risk you face. In
this option some proportion of the fund value is automatically switched from debt dominated fund to
equity dominated fund on regular basis. Automatic Asset Allocation (AAA): This option helps the
customer to automatically decrease the exposure to equity and increase the exposure to dept, as policy

he tends to be more conservative with his investment. This option provides you the flexibility of
leveraging the returns from equity s market and secure/ book the profits by the way of auto asset

Compare And Contrast New England And Massachusetts Bay...
During the 17th and 18th centuries, many English colonists settled into colonies in America, otherwise
known as the New World . There were many reasons to do so, whether it be for economic benefit or to
avoid religious persecution. These original 13 colonies began developing fast with the help from the
English, growing population wise and government wise. Two specific areas included the New England
and Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake colonies included Maryland and Virginia, while the
colonies of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Bay colony were part
of the New England colonies. These two colonial societies shared a few similarities regarding the
development of their religion and economy, they also had a few differences. Religion plays a major
part in many societies, especially the first 13 colonies. Some colonies were even settled solely to have
freedom of religion and escape from religious persecution. Massachusetts was one example, as the
Puritans first went to Plymouth in 1620 seeking religious freedom. In terms of the New England
colonies overall, they remained Puritan. The idea of religious toleration was restricted to only the
Puritan religion. A goal of theirs was to establish a city on a hill , which they succeeded at by having
an atmosphere of watchfulness and helping each other. John Winthrop, a Puritan, served as the first
Massachusetts Bay Colony governor. Anyone who did not follow this religion were known as

Cuba Is A Unique Nation In Which It’S Culture Has Been
Cuba is a unique nation in which it s culture has been defined as a result of incorporating different
customs from various nations over time. Beginning in the 1500s, the Spanish would be the first
migrants to inhabit the island. Not only did the Spanish bring their customs along with them, but
fifteen years after their arrival they also brought African slaves onto the island. Even through the
hardships of slavery and oppression, the African s maintained practices and preserved aspects of their
culture that were eventually incorporated into Cuban culture as a whole. The young nation also saw
various nations and ethnicities, such as Haitians and Americans as time progressed. Like their migrant
predecessors, these individuals would also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the remainder of Indians that were still alive in hiding or under Spanish rule as slaves, the
Spaniards were able to freely impose their culture, eradicating that of the Indians.
After the Indian slave population diminished, the Spanish brought in African slaves to fill the gaps in
the work force. However, like their oppressed predecessors, the slaves eventually rebelled too. With
slavery falling out of fashion across the globe in the late 1800s, Carlos Cespedes, a sugar planter in
Cuba followed suit and freed his slaves in 1868 to help start and fight in a rebellion against the
Spanish crown (Class Notes, 2/21/17). The interesting concept explored in this rebellion concerns the
notion of African slaves and local Cuban s working together. Two parties with different ethnic
backgrounds came together to fight the dictatorial rulers of the country. Through this union and
expression of transculturation as both backgrounds believed in the ideology of equal rights, the
conflict eventually grew in size and became known as the Ten Year s War. Although the Spanish
regained control after the war s end, it signalled a shift in ideology on the island away from the
Spanish crown, and eventually lead to the abolition of slavery and ultimately independence from
Spain. Ethnic Conflict and Tension
The early Christian Church in Spanish controlled Cuba was one of the first groups to call for the
abolition of slavery; however, they approached the concept prior to Cespedes and from a

An Essay About Apollo Flayed
Apollo
According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Apollo is the son of the Olympian Zeus and Titan Leto who is
the goddess of dark nights. Artemis is his twin sister, who is also an Olympian (Hesiod). He is the god
of sun, light, music, and prophecy. Besides, he is also the god for both medicine and healing. Apollo is
associated with medicine and healing through his son, Asclepius. Yet, he could bring ill health and
deadly plague (Houle 34). He is feared as he is able to bring ill health to mortals.
Apollo is often shown in playing the lyre. According to Favorite Greek Myths , Apollo has won couple
musical contests by playing his golden seven strings lyre, which is said to represent the seven planets
(Hyde 17). One time, Phyrgian satyr Marsayas challenges Apollo to a music contest. At the end, Satyr
lost the contest and is flayed alive. The lyre that Apollo plays is invented by Hermes, the messenger of
Zeus. One day, Apollo notices the beautiful musical instrument that Hermes carries and was fascinated

The Sick Role Essay
Throughout history, illness has been defined differently depending on how the wide variety of cultures
perceived it. Early times would use supernatural explanations to understand the cause of illnesses. For
example, their transcendental reasoning may talk about evil spirits, demons, devils, or divine
punishment for committing sins. Modern definition of an illness would be the pain a sick person feels.
It s more focused on scientific clarifications where illness is a biological and mental abnormality with
a common pattern of symptoms that can be treated with the proper medication. If one being healthy is
known as a biological norm, then illness is considered a deviance because of its abnormality. There are
three methods in identifying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sick role assumes that the sick person didn t deliberately make himself or herself sick. However,
people may pretend to be sick and this is another addition to deviant behavior. There are some
criminals who pretends to be crazy when committing a crime so they can avoid serious penalties and
end up with ones that are more lenient. Parson has four main points when it comes to the sick role.
First is the sick person is allowed to be excused from his or usual social roles. How much leniency is
given depends on the severity of the illness. For example, a person with pneumonia has permission to
take days off from work. The employer wouldn t fire this person for taking days off if proper
documentation by the doctor is given and pneumonia is a serious illness that can be viral. Second is
the sick person isn t held accountable for being ill because this is something that the person can t
control. The human body is mysterious, which is why a sick person with strong willpower can survive
from a deadly disease. Third is the sick person doesn t want to be sick and will try whatever means
necessary to not be a deviant, which means being ill. According to the first point, the sick person s
absence from his or her responsibilities is permitted but it s not long lasting because based off of the
third point, the person is supposed to get better so the

Analyzing Bloch s Painting
Bloch uses both analogous and complementary colors in the artwork to convey a message to make the
artwork standout. The artwork uses analogous colors to a calming view to the artwork and to
emphasize the drowsiness of the passengers. The black color of the man s coat is the same as the color
of the woman headwear sitting right next to him. The dark black of the man s coat in headwear are
analogous to the dark shade of green use as the color of the chairs. The dark black and green color is
analogous to the window s color, as the windows are very dark showing that it is dark outside. The

The Catholic And Catholic Church
Catholic Mass
In this spring break, I followed my Christian friend and visited a Catholic Church located in Seattle
and I had a chance to witness on how they conduct their worship in the form of Mass. The Catholic
Church has many practices and rituals such as Last Rites, praying the Rosary, receiving Communion,
Confession, Baptism, and Mass according to the members of this church. Nonetheless, the Mass is the
most crucial ritual as they consider it as the Lord`s Supper. The Mass is the Catholic`s official formal
worship service and is considered to be the most sacred and important worship act in a Catholic
church. According to the Catholics, going to the mass is considered as the only way to fulfill the third

This set the tone for conducting Bible readings and other prayers during the Mass. During the inquiry,
I was informed that each day of worship has its own prayers and readings that are unique as chosen by
the church.
Upon the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist which is the second section of the Mass, all the
saints remained seated as the deacons passed the baskets to them so as to collect offerings that were in
the form of monetary and non monetary. The head deacon brought the offerings to the altar. He was
also carrying cruets that had plain drinking water and grape wine together with a container that had
unconsecrated hosts. The priest poured, into the chalice, wine and added drops of water that
symbolized humanity and divinity union in Christ. Then the priest lifted the hosts as an offering
presented to God. He also did the same using the chalice filled with wine. Ceremonially, the priest
washed his hands similar to how rabbis and priests did prior to ritual slaughters. This according to one
of the leaders in the church was a reenactment of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Sanctus was sung
after which the congregation knelt down for the first time to mark the holiest section of the Mass
known as the Consecration. After the service I learned that Consecration of the wine and bread meant
that they become the blood and body of Jesus according to the transubstantiation miracle. Imperative

Dance, when you re broken open. Dance, if you ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the

excellent point especially when concerning the lives of Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
They both danced through war, they danced through heart ache, and they danced through tears. Even
though Nureyev, born March 17, 1938, lived through an earlier period of time than Baryshnikov, born

Nureyev is known as the father of modern dance while Baryshnikov formulated ways of representing
modern dance as not just classical or traditional but conformed it more to the recent generation.
Although their styles of dance are notable to mention of these adept dancers it is also imperative to
mention their contributions to the ever expanding dance world. It all commenced with them defecting
to other countries. If they would have remained in Russia, their contributions would be non existent.
However, the process of defecting was not an easy task. It did not have the fun of sipping coffee while
reading the newspaper on an airplane waiting patiently to reach your vacation spot. Defecting was a
life and death situation for them. For instance, Nureyev was at a tour to Paris with the company in
1961. Being tired of being so heavily enslaved by the KGB telling him where to go and what to do,
Nureyev escaped. With the help of loyal friends, who clearly saw his desperation, they achieved in

The Core Components Of An Authoritarian Regime
1. The core components of an authoritarian regime are the lack of accessibility for citizens to voice
their opinions, and more importantly, to participate in politics through formal channels (Mintz, Close
and Croci 256 258). Authoritarian regimes also share an absence of government accountability for any
or all decisions due to a wide range of power (Mintz, Close and Croci 256 258). This is in stark
contrast to democratic regimes where government accountability is held with the utmost importance

power to proactively work part and parcel of a political community, a country, thereby grows through
the collective understanding of other citizens concerns as well as from their allowed regular
involvement in government discussions where the end decision can affect the citizens under that
regime. Effectively demonstrating the differences of an authoritarian regime with a democratic one.

The Importance Of Love For Family
The ideal choice would always to be able to have both, but like the famous saying goes, you can t

relatives and significant others, but respect is something that can be earned by all. To have love
without respect, rather, is possessive and unhealthy. In addition, love can also push people act and
behave differently than they would normally. Through life, many will encounter many different people
and form many different bonds. However, only few will grow to truly love all the people they meet
within their lifetime. Of course, one would believe that love for family members and relatives will be
unconditional, and selfless. Moreover, if one is to look back the relationships that is between those
family members, there is a big realization. These particular relationships that are formed, especially
with the elder generations, we have an undeniable respect and admiration for them. This may have not
been the initial purpose but is still an effect of establishing boundaries. Boundaries are essential for
any relationship that one may have with any other individual. A line that shall not be crossed, if you
will. Thus, whether it is a parent, an aunt, or any loved one, one will know how far to go with that said

Albeit, marketing in the United States has a grave influence on the choice for synthetic drugs. It has
been known by many that the pharmaceutical industry has marketed medicines that do not produce the
results based on their claims. In addition, consumers have become increasingly unsettled with the high
cost of synthetic medications (Spilsbury 14 19). It is a combination of these factors and others that are
leading Americans back to their roots of natural healing medicine. As with synthetic medicines,
traditional plant medicine has its own handicap. Without regulation of natural medicines, consistency
of plant potency, efficacy, toxicity and safety are ambiguous. Consumers may falsely assume the
natural products are safe (Lewis 186.) As mentioned earlier, synthetic drugs usually contain a single
component extracted from a plant source. The original plant is complex in nature and consists of
various naturally occurring chemicals. Therefore, understanding any negative side effects from
treatment of the primary plant source would be more complicated. Modern medicine is scientifically

Statement of Purpose for My Passion for Culinary Arts
Culinary art is a momentous part of my life. When I was around the age of nine I was living with both
my mom and dad. I was always in the kitchen helping my mom cook dinner. I made baked ziti,
empanadas, sweet potato pie, and other foods. When I was in high school, I lived with my father, and
after my older siblings grew up it was just me and my little sister so I was responsible for cooking the
meals. I was cooking for my family an average of seven days a week and I was never tired or bored, I
enjoyed it. I developed a strong passion for culinary arts. I am passionate about it because it excites
me, inspires me, and encourages me to open a restaurant.
To begin with, the culinary arts is my passion because it excites me. The culinary arts is a competitive
field and I love the thrill of competition. It allows me to reach the height of my potential, in addition,
compare my skills with other people who have the same passion as I do. While I m cooking my senses
explode when the collaboration of components create sensational textures, aromas, and colors. When I

The Day After Roswell By Philip J. Corso
No child had such an oversized balloon shaped head. It didn t even look human, although it had
human like features (18). This is a description of an extraterrestrial from the Roswell incident in the
book The Day After Roswell written by Col. Philip J. Corso (Ret.) with WIlliam J. Birnes. This book
is quite the interesting read to say the least. Extraterrestrials, flying saucers, and foreign technology
are some of the complications in Corso s autobiography during his time in military intelligence
working at The Pentagon. Corso describes everything between the events of a flying saucer crash that
occurred in Roswell, NM. on July 4, 1947 to the modern day technology that the United States has

He was head of the project. Corso was diving much deeper than just the surface of a U.F.O. conspiracy
theory. If anyone s story should be believed it should be Corso s. It is easy to dismiss many of the

worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe.
This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the
Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off
from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story
secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of
the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military
decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make
something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in
order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. If they denied it like it was nothing, then the
media thought it was nothing. Eventually tabloids would buy the stories and then the credibility was
lost. This built an alien

Example of Traditional Iranian Hospitality
Iran has a glorious history and for more than three thousand years Persia was a melting pot of
civilizations and demographic movements between Asia and Europe. Under Cyrus the Great, it
became the center of the world s first empire. Successive invasions by the Greeks, Arabs, Mongols
and Turks developed the nation s culture through rich and diverse philosophical, artistic, scientific and
religious influences.... (Anonymous)
There is considerable evidence for commercial hospitality that dates back to at least 2000 B.C. (Driver
and miles, 1952). Iranians were always famous for their hospitality; one of the interesting elements in
Iranian hospitality history is the existence of caravanserais. Before the birth of the motor engines and
other modern means of transportation that carry cargo and travelers, businessmen used to transport
their merchandise by the help of animals that were so time consuming. These people needed a place to
rest in between their journey, so the kings of those time decided to build places for the travelers
convenience in between the big cities and the holy places. These resting places were called
caravanserais (http://www.isfahan.ir/) According to the online WikiPedia encyclopedia,
A caravanserai, means home or shelter for caravans ( caravan meaning a group or convoy of soldiers,
traders or pilgrims engaged in long

Invisible City Themes
Invisible City documents the lives of two teenagers living in Regent Park, and the impact they cause
on those around them. (Davis, 2009). The teenagers, Mikey and Kendell, are individuals struggling
with various issues. Essentially, the documentary chronicles the ups and downs of their lives, in an
environment that is constantly trying to diminish them (Davis, 2009). With that being said, there are
two main themes found within the documentary. The first theme focuses on the strife that these
teenagers, and those within their lives, endure. The second one feeds off this strife, and demonstrates
the potential of Mikey and Kendell. Aspects of both themes have been discussed in our class lectures,
because they relate to major societal problems. Overall, these themes outline the obstacles the
teenagers face in their youth, and the possibility for a better future, both of which include prominent
topics in our class lectures.
In more specific terms, the theme regarding strife is defined by the various hardships these teenagers
presently encounter such as race, crime, education, family issues, and poverty, all of which can be
related to our class lectures. Firstly, race is a basic component in the strife that these teenagers
experience. In Canada, those who are black are considered to be part of a minority group. Thus, they
are usually at a disadvantage in a mostly white society. An example of this is found in the
documentary, where the boys mention that they have been stopped by police for no ... Show more

Doctors Without Borders Research Papers
The organization I choose is Doctors Without Borders my reasoning behind choosing this organization
is because I like what they stand for when I was growing up I was always fond of helping people and
before deciding to join the military I wanted to be a doctor and the goal was to help as many people as
possible, but the people I wanted to help where not just Americans but also I wanted to help others in

should stand for which is helping everyone without discriminating against age, sex, race, or political
affiliation no matter what they provide professional medical care to all patients. The services they

Argumentative Essay On Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery has become a worldwide epidemic in today s world. The number of plastic surgeries
continues to increase since 2010. In today s day and age, plastic surgery is one of the most popular and
requested procedures. Females are opting to have plastic surgery because they dislike their body
image. Society has impacted many people by brain washing them to believe that a person s body has
to be perfect. In order for one to be considered beautiful, television and media influence people s
perceptions of beauty.
The definition of plastic surgery can be resumed as the process of rearing parts of the body. This
process is typically recognized by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for
cosmetic reasons. When idealizing plastic surgery, majority of the people think of it only as a change
of personal appearance. For example, breast augmentation or liposuction. Plastic surgery aides people
who have gotten burned, by replacing the burned skin with other tissue from another part of the body.
Usually, plastic surgery can be associated with individuals that tend to be self conscious or have low
self esteem. Acquiring cosmetic surgeries can significantly boost a person s confidence and self image.
Normally, beautifying procedures are seen to improve psychological damage. Plastic surgery can be
beneficial for mental health. Although this may be true, plastic surgery has become an addiction. The
perception of beauty should not be held at the hands of surgery.
The motives behind surgery can vary; it can go from the removal of birthmarks and unattractive
looking scars, to the riddance of breasts deformities. Recently, a study showed, how Reconstructive
breast augmentation is generally performed to correct asymmetry caused by congenital errors, trauma
or disease, Poland s Syndrome and tuberous breast deformity (Singh, 58). Normally, woman with
breast deformities, such as, large breasts or cysts, deal with many problems like pain in the back,
shoulders, and loin. In this types of situations, breast reduction helps reduce the pain while helping
them fix their posture, and allowing them to live a normal, fulfilling life.
Furthermore, another research shows that one of the of

Essay on What Factors Affect Voter Turnout and Election...
Voter turnout, as well as election results, depend upon and are effected by several different factors.
Everything from family status to beliefs about abortion can determine how a person will vote. In my
presentation, however, I focused on three aspects that effect voter turnout and elections. I found, in my
research, that a voter s age, sex and party identification greatly factor into how a person will cast his or
her vote.
Men and women differ greatly in many aspects of life, and voting is one of them. In the 1992
Presidential elections, women were found by the U.S. Census Current Population Reports to have
voted two percent more than men did. Of the 62% of women who did vote, more were found to have
supported Bill Clinton rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
this low voting rate was attributed to a general lack of feeling of responsibility. As young adults age,
marry, and become parents, their sense of community and responsibility increases, while their apathy
toward voting decreases, (Abramson 116). Another reason for low voter turnout numbers for 18 to 24
year olds is their generally low levels of party loyalties. Not having strong party ties decreases one s
incentive to vote.
Registration and voting organizations such as MTV s Rock the Vote have been accredited with
increasing young Americans voter turnout numbers. Rock the Vote s primary focus, since its founding
in 1990, has been increasing voter registration within the nation s youngest age group. The
organization frequently hosts Get Out the Vote drives on college campuses and on concert tours in
order to reach young people. since its beginning, support for Rock the Vote has been massive, and in
1992 it was recognized for influencing more than one million young voters to participate in electing
their President.
Voter turnout for other age groups also increased in 1992, but those numbers were not considered to
be a significant rise because age groups with citizens over 45 years old already have generally high
turnout. According to the U.S. Census Current Population Reports, the 45 to 64 years old age group
was reported to have 75.3% of registered voters actually voting, while those in the 65 years or older

Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Repetition serves several different narrative functions in the Epic of Gilagmesh. It connects three parts
of the epic together using the city of Uruk and, most importantly, the rampart that encircles the city.
Repetition also gives subtle hints of shifting perspectives. At the beginning of the epic the reader is
invited to marvel at the city of Uruk from the height of the wall. The walls of the city act as a framing
device, enclosing various aspects of civilization: social, politics and religion. In Tablet IV the
repetitive format of the stanzas and the presence of the city of Uruk helps convey the emotional state
of the hero and changes in his character. At the end of the epic the mirroring of the beginning of the
epic conveys the final step of wisdom that Gilgamesh takes and suggest that, despite his mortality, his
deeds have permanence. The opening lines 1 23 from Tablet 1 of the poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh,
introduce us to the ancient Sumerian hero, Gilgamesh. These lines are arresting for their directness
and simplicity; they briefly outline the ensuing tales of Gilgamesh s adventures and achievements and
emphasize the hero s extraordinarily vigorous and powerful nature. The introduction hints at a more
personal journey, one in which the hero came a far road, was weary, found peace (1,9) suggesting that
Gilgamesh discovered a way to understand the tragedy and perplexity of human existence. The
narrator calls to the reader s attention, inviting the reader to Climb

  • 2. African Americans in Baseball Michael Rizzo Murray, Chass (2004). Game Fights Trend of Fewer Blacks. The New York Times This article is about the declination of blacks in the game of baseball. It begins by talking about how successful blacks were in baseball from 1981 1997. Blacks such as Tony Gwynn, Tim Raines, and Gary Sheffield were winning National League Batting Titles 16 out of those 17 years. From 1998 2004, only one black player has won the batting title. As a huge baseball fan, I never knew that stat and find it very interesting. The article also entails that black players had won the National League MVP award quite often from 1949 1970. More recently from 1985 2004, black players had won the MVP 11 times, with Barry Bonds winning 6 of the 11. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coleman was a big reason why the RBI program, which stands for Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities, has become a popular program to grab the attention of blacks at a young age to engage in the game of baseball. This program has produced a number of current Major League Players such as Carl Crawford, Coco Crisp and Wil Nieves. About 190 RBI programs have been started domestically and at military bases around the country. Major League Baseball is also giving Little League Baseball $250,000 a year to expand their leagues to urban programs. They have also constructed a baseball academy in Compton, California to try to duplicate the success baseball has had in influencing Latin American countries to the game. I think that this article, for being almost ten years old, is still pretty accurate and agree with all of its points. There are still not enough blacks in the game of baseball today. There are also not enough black managers in Major League Baseball which could have an impact on the game too. I think that RBI programs across America are gradually starting to help. Recently, Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees donated over 1 million dollars to open an RBI program in Harlem, New York. This goes to show that white players are even noticing the problem and are trying to do something about it. The League has very few black ambassadors today and can definitely use more to influence young blacks. The most popular players today are either American born or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. United States And The Civil War US Civil War United States of America was formed as a result of the revolution that continued from 1776 to 1783. After that, United States was divided into two wings/ parts that are the southern and the northern parts. Then conflict between the two aroused because the northern and the southern societies were totally different of each other in terms of economic structure, social class, politics and other social matters especially slavery. The civil war, that started in 1861 and ended in 1865, was the result of the unending conflict between the southern and the northern societies. The main issue that became the cause of conflict was slavery and the oppression of the labor class in the southern societies of the United States and the northern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the southern societies comprised of best suited agricultural lands and had complete hold on the agricultural needs of the states and also exported it to the European countries. In this society, there was great racial discrimination. The whites were the owners of the lands and they felt no need to establish the industrial culture because their lands were very profitable for them. Another reason for this was that the owners did not work and had the slaves that prepared the crop, harvested it, and supplied it to the markets. In short, slaves were responsible for the take care of the crops and the owners treated them brutally. They tortured them physically, emotionally, did not provide them with food and forced them to work all the time (Boritt, 1992). They were also punished harshly for their little mistakes due to which many slaves died as well. So there was great violation of labor rights and also human rights that triggered the seeds of hate and rebellion. In addition to it, the northern societies also supported the elimination of slavery. Reasons of Inevitability of War The US civil war was inevitable due to the three main issues that had created wide gap and extreme stiffness between the two societies of United States. The most important of them was slavery. The economy of the southern part of United States depended solely on the hard work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is very important for the UNC organization and their increasing population of immigrants from Ghana and Nigeria. In Ghana, more than 250 languages and dialects are spoken (ghanaembassy.nl, n.d.) with 520 being spoken in Nigeria (ethnologue.com, n.d.). This organization is meeting the CLAS Standards of 5, 6, 7 by offering language assistance services and ensuring the competence of their interpreters without the use of family members. Another benefit is in the organization s efforts in cultural diversity and the African American community. Through community education and hospital programs, UNC is meeting the need for a greater cultural competency for the increased ethnic patient population. In an era of increasing patient choice, hospitals must focus on improving care to retain patients and increase patient satisfaction. Cultural competency builds trust and understanding between patients and providers. Being culturally competent and providing language assistance are valuable tools in the process to provide quality care for diverse populations. This deliberate division is clearly drawn from the beginning: the first words of the book read, Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board, while Janie s first words are, Aw, pretty god, Ah m tryin to soak some uh de tiredness and de dirt outa mah feet (1, 4). As the narrator herself explains, there are many moments where the character don t know the words for all this, but [they know] the feeling (80). The importance of free will and therefore, of freely dreaming and wishing, is a central theme in Their Eyes were Watching God, so important that the acting symbol representing one s personal ambition acts as figurative bookends to the novel. The book begins by saying that [wishes] sail forever toward the horizon, and ends by describing that same horizon being pulled in like a great fish net (1, 193). The Forward was written by none other than Christian Leader Desmond Tutu who opposed the apartheid in South Africa. Despite the cheery title this book was no easy read what so ever. The book covered topics cush as Worldwide Poverty, Environmental Degradation and Widespread Terrorism, just to name a few. The authors of this book had an interesting approach to laying these topics out, going in to great detail. Writing from a more realist approach the authors claimed not to be optimist, which was evident and at times they seemed slightly pessimistic. Throughout the book the authors made excellent use of many of our cultural problems pointing out their ideological roots. But before they did that they took to time to explain in great lengths what ideology really is and how it came about. It is more than just the dictionary definition: the body of doctrine, myth or beliefs that guide an individual, social movement, institution, class, or large group (Dictionary.com). The usual cycle is that juries acquit the police, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. One of the most broadcasted cases of police brutality, was the beating of Rodney King. On the night of March 2, 1991, a bystander named George Holiday, videotaped the moment when five officers used excess force on an African American man named Rodney King, beating him with batons as he struggled on the ground. Also, it was recorded that an officer stomped on King s shoulder causing his head to hit hard against the asphalt. Fast forward twenty years and the athletic career I have experienced has been nothing short of successful. Rowing demanded more from me than I had ever demanded of myself and taught me the power of perseverance. It instilled in me that my capabilities have no boundaries and laid the groundwork for my success in business. The sport of rowing is relentless in its power to expose the mental strength of athletes. Since the completion of my experience as a collegiate athlete, I have been driven by a passion to further my career as a professional in sport. With the achievement of obtaining a graduate degree, I know as I create new career goals, I will have the skills necessary to succeed in a new chapter of life. While they only occupy a very small percentage of land area, wetlands can be located all over the planet, ranging from near the northern and southern poles all the way to the tropics. Many biological, chemical and physical properties of wetlands allow them to provide various functions to surrounding ecosystems, and humans have found personal value from several of these ecological functions. Unfortunately, a history of exploitation of wetland services has led to their destruction and degradation. The loss of wetland area has consequences for many aspects of the environment that are tied closely with the functions of wetlands. However, the values of wetlands are now being recognized worldwide, and have led to the installment and enforcement of wetland conservation, protection laws, regulations, and management plans [Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007]. Definitions In order to appreciate the many functions and values of wetlands, it is essential to understand what a wetland actually is. Wetlands can be found in all climate zones, ranging from the tropics to the tundra, while only occupying 4 6 percent of the earth s land area [Mitra et al., 2005]. After the Indian slave population diminished, the Spanish brought in African slaves to fill the gaps in the work force. However, like their oppressed predecessors, the slaves eventually rebelled too. With slavery falling out of fashion across the globe in the late 1800s, Carlos Cespedes, a sugar planter in Cuba followed suit and freed his slaves in 1868 to help start and fight in a rebellion against the Spanish crown (Class Notes, 2/21/17). The interesting concept explored in this rebellion concerns the notion of African slaves and local Cuban s working together. Two parties with different ethnic backgrounds came together to fight the dictatorial rulers of the country. Through this union and expression of transculturation as both backgrounds believed in the ideology of equal rights, the conflict eventually grew in size and became known as the Ten Year s War. Although the Spanish regained control after the war s end, it signalled a shift in ideology on the island away from the Spanish crown, and eventually lead to the abolition of slavery and ultimately independence from Spain. Parson has four main points when it comes to the sick role. First is the sick person is allowed to be excused from his or usual social roles. How much leniency is given depends on the severity of the illness. For example, a person with pneumonia has permission to take days off from work. The employer wouldn t fire this person for taking days off if proper documentation by the doctor is given and pneumonia is a serious illness that can be viral. Second is the sick person isn t held accountable for being ill because this is something that the person can t control. Third is the sick person doesn t want to be sick and will try whatever means necessary to not be a deviant, which means being ill. • 39. The Day After Roswell By Philip J. Corso No child had such an oversized balloon shaped head. It didn t even look human, although it had human like features (18). This is a description of an extraterrestrial from the Roswell incident in the book The Day After Roswell written by Col. Philip J. Corso (Ret.) with WIlliam J. Birnes. This book is quite the interesting read to say the least. Extraterrestrials, flying saucers, and foreign technology are some of the complications in Corso s autobiography during his time in military intelligence working at The Pentagon. Corso describes everything between the events of a flying saucer crash that occurred in Roswell, NM. on July 4, 1947 to the modern day technology that the United States has managed to reverse engineer due to the crash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was head of the project. Corso was diving much deeper than just the surface of a U.F.O. conspiracy theory. If anyone s story should be believed it should be Corso s. It is easy to dismiss many of the eyewitness reports, as after a while everyone was an eyewitness just to get some fame. Corso actually worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe. This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. If they denied it like it was nothing, then the media thought it was nothing. Eventually tabloids would buy the stories and then the credibility was lost. This built an alien ... • 42. Invisible City Themes Invisible City documents the lives of two teenagers living in Regent Park, and the impact they cause on those around them. (Davis, 2009). The teenagers, Mikey and Kendell, are individuals struggling with various issues. Essentially, the documentary chronicles the ups and downs of their lives, in an environment that is constantly trying to diminish them (Davis, 2009). With that being said, there are two main themes found within the documentary. The first theme focuses on the strife that these teenagers, and those within their lives, endure. The second one feeds off this strife, and demonstrates the potential of Mikey and Kendell. Aspects of both themes have been discussed in our class lectures, because they relate to major societal problems. Overall, these themes outline the obstacles the teenagers face in their youth, and the possibility for a better future, both of which include prominent topics in our class lectures. In more specific terms, the theme regarding strife is defined by the various hardships these teenagers presently encounter such as race, crime, education, family issues, and poverty, all of which can be related to our class lectures. Firstly, race is a basic component in the strife that these teenagers experience. In Canada, those who are black are considered to be part of a minority group. Thus, they are usually at a disadvantage in a mostly white society. An example of this is found in the documentary, where the boys mention that they have been stopped by police for no ... • 44. Argumentative Essay On Plastic Surgery Plastic Surgery Plastic Surgery has become a worldwide epidemic in today s world. The number of plastic surgeries continues to increase since 2010. In today s day and age, plastic surgery is one of the most popular and requested procedures. Females are opting to have plastic surgery because they dislike their body image. Society has impacted many people by brain washing them to believe that a person s body has to be perfect. In order for one to be considered beautiful, television and media influence people s perceptions of beauty. The definition of plastic surgery can be resumed as the process of rearing parts of the body. This process is typically recognized by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for cosmetic reasons. When idealizing plastic surgery, majority of the people think of it only as a change of personal appearance. For example, breast augmentation or liposuction. Plastic surgery aides people who have gotten burned, by replacing the burned skin with other tissue from another part of the body. Usually, plastic surgery can be associated with individuals that tend to be self conscious or have low self esteem. Acquiring cosmetic surgeries can significantly boost a person s confidence and self image. Normally, beautifying procedures are seen to improve psychological damage. Plastic surgery can be beneficial for mental health. Although this may be true, plastic surgery has become an addiction. The perception of beauty should not be held at the hands of surgery. The motives behind surgery can vary; it can go from the removal of birthmarks and unattractive looking scars, to the riddance of breasts deformities. Recently, a study showed, how Reconstructive breast augmentation is generally performed to correct asymmetry caused by congenital errors, trauma or disease, Poland s Syndrome and tuberous breast deformity (Singh, 58). Normally, woman with breast deformities, such as, large breasts or cysts, deal with many problems like pain in the back, shoulders, and loin. • 46. Essay on What Factors Affect Voter Turnout and Election... Voter turnout, as well as election results, depend upon and are effected by several different factors. Everything from family status to beliefs about abortion can determine how a person will vote. In my presentation, however, I focused on three aspects that effect voter turnout and elections. I found, in my research, that a voter s age, sex and party identification greatly factor into how a person will cast his or her vote. Men and women differ greatly in many aspects of life, and voting is one of them. In the 1992 Presidential elections, women were found by the U.S. Census Current Population Reports to have voted two percent more than men did. Of the 62% of women who did vote, more were found to have supported Bill Clinton rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... this low voting rate was attributed to a general lack of feeling of responsibility. As young adults age, marry, and become parents, their sense of community and responsibility increases, while their apathy toward voting decreases, (Abramson 116). Another reason for low voter turnout numbers for 18 to 24 year olds is their generally low levels of party loyalties. Not having strong party ties decreases one s incentive to vote. Registration and voting organizations such as MTV s Rock the Vote have been accredited with increasing young Americans voter turnout numbers. Rock the Vote s primary focus, since its founding in 1990, has been increasing voter registration within the nation s youngest age group. The organization frequently hosts Get Out the Vote drives on college campuses and on concert tours in order to reach young people. since its beginning, support for Rock the Vote has been massive, and in 1992 it was recognized for influencing more than one million young voters to participate in electing their President. Voter turnout for other age groups also increased in 1992, but those numbers were not considered to be a significant rise because age groups with citizens over 45 years old already have generally high turnout. According to the U.S. Census Current Population Reports, the 45 to 64 years old age group was reported to have 75.3% of registered voters actually voting, while those in the 65 years or older category ... • 47. Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh Repetition serves several different narrative functions in the Epic of Gilagmesh. It connects three parts of the epic together using the city of Uruk and, most importantly, the rampart that encircles the city. Repetition also gives subtle hints of shifting perspectives. At the beginning of the epic the reader is invited to marvel at the city of Uruk from the height of the wall. The walls of the city act as a framing device, enclosing various aspects of civilization: social, politics and religion. In Tablet IV the repetitive format of the stanzas and the presence of the city of Uruk helps convey the emotional state of the hero and changes in his character. At the end of the epic the mirroring of the beginning of the epic conveys the final step of wisdom that Gilgamesh takes and suggest that, despite his mortality, his deeds have permanence. The opening lines 1 23 from Tablet 1 of the poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh, introduce us to the ancient Sumerian hero, Gilgamesh. These lines are arresting for their directness and simplicity; they briefly outline the ensuing tales of Gilgamesh s adventures and achievements and emphasize the hero s extraordinarily vigorous and powerful nature. The introduction hints at a more personal journey, one in which the hero came a far road, was weary, found peace (1,9) suggesting that Gilgamesh discovered a way to understand the tragedy and perplexity of human existence. The narrator calls to the reader s attention, inviting the reader to Climb ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
