The Importance Of The Fourth Amendment
A The Fourth Amendment in the Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791. This Amendment
protects people from the police searching their homes and private property without a properly
executed search warrant. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and
effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue,
but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized ( Annenberg Classroom, 2006). B The Fourth
Amendment protects people against unreasonable searches and seizures by government officials. A
search can mean everything from a frisking by a police officer to a blood test to a search of an
individual s home or car. A seizure occurs when the government takes control of an individual or
something in his or her possession. Items that are seized often are used as evidence when the
individual is charged with a crime ( Annenberg Classroom, 2006). This amendment is meant for
agents of the government, it does not apply to people who do not belong to the government. ... Show

But it does not restrict all searches. For example, courts have ruled that school officials may search
school lockers and require that students who participate in extracurricular activities undergo random
drug testing ( Annenberg Classroom, 2006). This amendment gives people a right to privacy. This
amendment can be bypassed by police if they have a reasonable cause to search, which is typically
when people feel like their rights are being

Argumentative Essay On Boy Scouts
Scouting will continue to teach respect and dignity to all people regardless of their ethnic background
their skin color or their religious believes. The challenge in America is many scouting organizations
belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which may or may not except other
religions. However there are many scouting organizations that are not sponsored by the church those
organizations will welcome boys from all backgrounds.
When you think about how scouts can help improve humanity you have to look at the things they are
accomplishing every year. They will raise money to support their organization however they often
work hand in hand in the local community. Each year Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts participate in trash
cleanup activities, building projects with Habitat for Humanity, food drives to support the homeless,
and parades. Add a young age scouts are taught to become a part of their community and they must
take care of their community by cleaning up after themselves and to leave an area better than they
found it. You will have young men and boys blending in to a scalp unit from all different backgrounds
and cultures they will learn how to help one another. A child is never born knowing how to

The Role Of Fate In The Other Wes Moore
Certain life situations can have tremendous affects on a person`s mentality, intuition, and outlook on
life. Their integrity, or lackadaisical efforts can reflect on their actions that impact their future. In the
book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, the narrator told the story of another man who shared the
same name, a similar address and faced akin obstacles, but both of their futures were the complete
antithesis of each other. The real question that ponders my mind is how did two men with similar lives
end up with different fates? Throughout my read of this novel both Wes Moore`s faced extreme highs
and devastating low points, but what defined their different destiny s were the expectations and
intentions others pushed for them, the opportunities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Monday Wednesday 8:30pm
Patriot s vs. People s Howard Zinn s, Peoples History of the US and Larry Schweikart s, Patriots
History of the US are two analytical views on history that most people would consider politically
conflicting. Zinn s Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart s book is
greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known
historians turned their focus on writing two historical pieces that would fill in the historical holes that
weren t being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning that made for a
great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really
dismissed the common white mans history and focused his approach on a multiple minority
perspective. Schweikart s book is very different in the sense he takes aim at Zinn as he targets words
like great discovery and war on terror which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart s book really
reads like old history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this
nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. No matter who shares the views of the political
perspectives or condemns them because of its bias stances both historians felt responsible in writing
the history of the United States.
Zinn did not believe in an unbiased approach to history

Canadian Multiculturalism Act And The Canadian Charter Of...
Introduction
Multiculturalism has always been perceived as one of the integral components of Canadian Culture .
Under the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, Canadian citizens are free to exercise their religious and
cultural practices . However, niqab ban takes effect in some public aspects of Canada . Supporters of
the ban believes that wearing niqab is not a part of the Canadian Culture and should be banned in
order to free Muslim Women from oppression . Niqab ban, however, infringes on the religious and
cultural freedom instilled in the Canadian Multiculturalism Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights
and Freedom and is unlawful . A careful examination on Canadian culture and laws, the origins and
arguments of the ban, and its implications is needed in order to further understand the issue.
The Canadian Culture
Canada has never acknowledged itself as a homogeneous nation but rather rooted in diversity . The
government assume a neutral role in regards to religion and accommodation, keeping in mind the goal
of integration based on differences . Immigrants are placed in a different situation where they are
expected to adopt and assimilate elements of the Canadian culture and at the same time still try to
keep their own cultural identity . Canada is known for encouraging diversity and has a positive
perspective on minority group s traditional practices . The Multiculturalism Act is supposed to give
the same and fair recognition and accommodation for non dominant groups .

Suicide Through Social Media
Rebecca Sedwick, a 12 year old girl, committed suicide after being repeatedly cyberbullied by 15 girls
for many months. Once again, cyberbullying through social media has led to the suicide of a child. (
Phillips, Suzanne ) Social media allows hundreds of ways to communicate with others with electronic
devices. Sometimes communicating with strangers, and sometimes unanimous. This idea of constant
messages, notifications, and texts can be very dangerous when it comes to cyberbullying because the
victim feels like they have no way out, or nowhere to hide. Social media for kids and teens ultimately
has only negative effects because it leads to cyberbullying, a decrease in education, and suicide.

Suicide is not an uncommon result of tormenting through social media. The psychological impact [of

either. Jennifer Holladay states, Our study of upwards of 2,000 middle school students revealed that
cyberbullying victims were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide compared to students not targeted

Life Insurance, Accidental, And Long And Short Term...
Life insurance provides a guarantee of compensation in the case of loss of life in return for a payment
of a premium paid to a company. Life insurance, in different forms, may be offered by many
companies as part of a comprehensive benefits package. It is a significant benefit as it provides family
members with financial assistance and peace of mind in the event of death. There are several different
options for to choose from and deciding what options are best for each will depend on several factors
and the advantages of each option and the goals of each. This paper will define the different insurance
programs that may be available in organization s compensation and benefits package precisely term
life insurance, universal, whole life insurance, accidental death dismemberment, and long and short
term disability insurance. It will further outline the advantages of each.
No one can predict when their death is going to happen and for many this type of conversation may be
one that is uncomfortable. However, when thinking about loved ones left behind it is important to
think about the financial burdens that they may face in one s absence. Therefore, life insurance should
be thought of as income replacement that will be lost due to premature death. The factors an individual
should consider are the expenses required to be maintained such as mortgage, college education,
living expenses and surviving spouse retirement (Failla, 2014). In determining the options that may be

Why We Shouldn T Have Homework
Why Students Shouldn t Have Homework I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that
teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have
found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed
out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris
Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of
homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower
scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly,
students have to wake up from seven until two o clock everyday, ... Show more content on

By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have
to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn t be able to work efficiently
during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they
know they wouldn t have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it
showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount
of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their
homework, therefore they aren t learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the
topic and do not benefit from what they re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost
her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the
mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter s tragic ending
along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more
children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the
majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and
high school due to the amount of

Bigger s Self Realization in Native Son
Although today we live in a nation, which has abolished
slavery, the gap between the whites and the blacks during the early stages of
America s development has plainly carried into the present. In Native Son,
author Richard Wright illustrates this racial gap, in addition to demonstrating
how white oppression upon blacks is capable of producing revengeful individuals,
not to mention being an immoral act in itself. Bigger Thomas is one of those
individuals, who discovers his capacity to rebel through acts of murder against
the white society, which has for long oppressed his family, friends, and himself.

Book three of the novel offers an emotional confusion within the mind of
Bigger, which soon leads him to contrive a self realization. Immediately one
observes that toward no one in the world did he (Bigger) feel any fear
now (254). This is a recent change in Bigger s mind set. He knows that he has
pushed himself to the limits, and he is in control of what he says and does. He
tries firmly to stifle all feeling in him[self] (262) when talking to his
visitors in the jail, because he feared that they would make him feel
remorseful (262). In this manner, he is able to not confuse his thoughts with
any feelings, so he can sort out his ideas. This is the self isolating process,
which occurs mentally, and this enables Bigger to formulate a justification for
his sins. Men do not like to feel that they are guilty of wrong, and if you
make them feel guilt, they will try desperately to justify it on any
grounds (360), which is precisely what Bigger is attempting through mental
detachment. Bigger didn t know I (he) was really alive in this world
until (392) he killed Mary Dalton. Bigger realizes that he committed the
murders in order to establish his existence in this world.

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh s Bohemia Lies By The Sea
Vincent van Gogh s, Wheat Field with Cypresses, and Anselm Kiefer s, Bohemia Lies by the Sea, are
astonishing pieces of art located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both artists put a large amount of
thought and time in the creation of their work with the intentions of conveying specific understandings
to the viewers. Although they may appear extremely different at first glance, they are in fact very
similar, whether it is in process, intention, or in context. Both of these pieces are very significant to the
history and development of art throughout time and have inspired several artists across the world. In

enormous size alone will seize the viewer s attention. The landscape that the painting portrays is a vast
field bisected by a rutted road receding in dramatically deep perspective towards a high horizon line.
In Kiefer s painting, the field is covered with poppies conveyed in a manner persistent with its deep
perspective. The poppies are an emblem of military veterans, whose presence is perhaps suggested by
occasional drips of paint the color of dried blood. Also representing remembrance and forgetting, the
orange and pink poppy flowers embody the only bright colors in the painting. The rest of the piece is
made of analogous shades of green, blue, and gray. The piece grabs the viewer not by its aesthetic
beauty, but by the physicality of its extremely thick, unbalanced, jagged layers of paint and material
that project off the canvas in layers heavy both in meaning and in the actual density of their
application. In regards to the title; Bohemia Lies by the Sea, It references the poem by the Austrian

Blindness In Carver s Cathedral
The idea of blindness in Carver s Cathedral gains additional meaning throughout the story as we learn
more about the character Robert and the blind man himself. The story begins in first person, depicting
Roberts disdain for the blind and his smallness of character. As a juxtaposition we are introduced to
the blind man who is evolved in character, and has a substantially important relationship with Roberts
s wife. As the story progresses and Robert has more interaction with the blind man, he himself begins
to evolve through time spent while his wife is asleep. As the story comes to an end, the blind man has
affected the character of Robert to the point that his inward blindness has been exposed. This story

The narrator asks the blind man if he would like to smoke marijuana with him, during this Robert
acknowledges his preconceived ideas by assuming the blind man smokes when he does not. Robert
says, I thought I knew that much and that much about blind people (Carver, 187). Here, he must
acknowledge he is previous notion was incorrect, and that is the furthest step we have yet to see the
narrator take. The blind man staying up with him that evening shows him reaching out and attempting
to help Robert evolve. As the blind man says I am always learning something. Learning never ends
(Carver, 188). This represents Roberts learning and growing as a person. The true transformation is
depicted through the describing of the Cathedral. Robert attempts two times to describe a cathedral but
cannot find the words or description to it justice. The blind man leads him to draw it and made him
close his eyes. Now Robert is seeing in a new way. No longer through his eyes, but from within.
Robert describes this as like nothing else in my life up to now (Carver, 190). Together, one man eyes
closed trying to see from within, one man blind but able to see from within, they draw the Cathedral.
Robert kept his eyes closed for a long time after this. As he points out, my eyes were still closed and I
thought I d keep them that way for a little longer (Carver, 190 ). When the story finishes, Robert says I

that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the

However, despite several efforts, unfortunately we cannot have a lot of expectations from start ups

effective venture capital market that constitutes, so far, the essential fuel for this sector. While in USA
social venturists as well as venture capitalists are very active, in Italy too little attention is given to
social innovation, which contrarily is arousing into the other communitarian countries more and more
interest and that recently the EU has promoted with its Social Business Initiative .
In particular, the just mentioned strategy by European Union aims to set up all those measures useful
to fight poverty and social exclusions, and meanwhile, through SBI, the Brussels based organism
wants to strengthen growth, employment and competitiveness, creating simultaneously a more

Referring to this initiative, it comes to light that social enterprises and, more generally, all the actors

should apply business strategies to tackle important social goals such as ameliorate society or

epic, Santiago s circular journey back home is less significant than Odysseus s linear journey home to
his wife and child. Santiago s purpose was to validate his personal legend in finding treasure. The old
woman wanted to know more about his dream. She then gave her interpretation: [Santiago] must go to
the Pyramids in Egypt. [She has] never heard of them, but, if it was a child who showed them to
[him], they exist. There [he] will find a treasure that will make [him] a rich man. (Coelho 14) So
begins his journey that takes him away from home. A shepherd who wants to travel, he seeks treasure
to support his life and livelihood. Along the way, he meets the alchemist who tells him that, before a
[Personal Legend] is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way.
(Coelho 132) The alchemist s teaching guides Santiago as he continues his journey. With each
continuing step, Santiago realizes that his true treasure is back where he started, at home. While his
journey was truly epic, and he overcome many obstacles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A man s determination to get back to his family trumps a man s desire for wealth. Both men were
inspired by people they met on their journey. The prayer given as, an omen from Zeus, (Homer 38)
propels Odysseus to complete his journey, while Santiago s traveling guidance literally took him in
circles with riddles such as, one dies of thirst just when the palm trees appeared on the horizon.
(Coelho 132)
Santiago s journey of a thousand miles ended where he started, home. Odysseus s thousand miles took
him where he fought valiantly to get to, to his home. They each obtained success, but Odysseus s
purpose was more important and powerful than

Kvothe In Patrick Rothfuss s The Name Of The Wind
The lifestyle of a troupe of traveling performers, the meticulous science behind arcane magic, and the
truth of the evil entities known as Chandrian. All of these subjects are touched upon within Patrick
Rothfuss s The Name of the Wind, the first book of a three part fantasy series telling the tale of
Kvothe, a man of brilliance, bravery, beauty, and most of all, bad luck (Alliteration). So far within the
novel, Kvothe (who now goes as Kote) is regaling his legacy to Chronicler for history s sake,
describing the death of his parents at the hands of demons, his punitive years in the alleyways of
Tarbean, and his budding enrollment to the University. Although I have yet to finish the book, I am

One prediction is that Kvothe will meet Denna again: some people say there was a woman , says
Chronicler to Kvothe (Rothfuss 49). Kvothe responds by abruptly (and angrily) cutting him off. As the
beginning of the book actually occurs in the future of most of the story, this comment inclines there is
a woman that drastically affects Kvothe. The reason I believe that woman to be Denna is that she is
the only female so far in the book that Kvothe has shown an interest to. Entire pages were spent
describing how benevolent she is, of her goodness and grace. It would be odd if those descriptions
were meaningless and Kvothe and she were never to meet again. Another prediction is that Master
Hemme will be the one who gets Kvothe kicked out of the University. He is an insidious and spiteful
man, attempting to humiliate Kvothe in front of his class and, when this backfired, trying to expel
Kvothe for not simply rolling over and accepting his fate of being inferior. Master Hemme may not be
well liked in the school, but he does hold a substantial amount of sway within the University. It is
already made clear that Kvothe is expelled from the school at the young age, and because of his
adversity to Hemme, the Master is most likely to

Analysis Of What Dreams May Come
What Dreams May Come Vincent Ward s What Dreams May Come breathed brilliant life into the
tragic story of a family pulled apart by death and the journey one man makes through heaven and even
hell to save his soul mate, based from the book, What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson. This
movie is boldly beautiful and a rollercoaster of feelings that brings you to the emotional edge but
sadly doesn t quite get us all the way over. In the beginning of the movies, events occur rather quickly.
Chris and Annie, unbelievably effective and heartbreakingly performed by Robin Williams and
Annabella Sciorra, meet as there boats collide into each other on a lake; from there the two fall in
love, become married and have two children. The children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His idea in this particular story is that heaven is built in a state of uncertainty. Those who are there see
and experience that things and people that they wish to see or do. The meaning behind thus, is that
Heaven is becoming who you want to be (Ebert). As Albert says in the film Hell is a place for those
who don t know they are dead. Souls who do not accept death or unable to comprehend it are those
who end up in hell. In the movie, as Chris travels the road to hell, he sees that the road is paved with
faces who are bitter and damned. Along the way he also hears the voice of his father who is played by
german director Werner Herzog (Ebert).
Even though the film ends in the common obligatory happily ever after fashion to which doesn t
appeal to the rest of the movie, it is nevertheless a fantastic film. It is truly a wonderful work of art
that translates the book in accurate proportions, which seems to be rare in the hollywood industry.
Like other works of Ward s the film ends with Chris and Anne seeking their destiny. The cathedral in
the ending scene, similar to the other awing images in the film, is breathtaking, however it is upside
down. The film wonderfully explores the ideas of destiny, death, human perception, man s wisdom
and nature. The digital artwork and incredibly touching performances; heighten all

Whale Persuasive Speech
To many, the thought of eating whale meat might seem strange, as they are not accustomed to
consuming this kind of meat, while to others eating cow (beef) is a strange and cruel thing to do.
Around the globe, there are different ways that individuals support themselves financially, and
different foods that are consumed. Cultural practices are what sets each group of people apart and
make us unique, neighboring counties should not be allowed to change century long practices as they
see fit. Per the WDC Whaling is cruel and unnecessary and must stop. Commercial whaling is
effectively banned. Trade in whale products is forbidden. Yet, every year, Japan, Norway and Iceland
kill around 1,500 whales between them. They defy international bans and global opinion and they hunt
whales even though there is little demand for the meat. (WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation,
2017) Since the WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, was founded in the US and eating whale is
not a part of its culture, it comes across as cruel. The question that one needs to ask is what difference
is there in catching a whale for food versus catching mackerel or consuming beef? A mackerel is a non
endangered species, but yet it is allowed. Japan and Norway should be allowed to continue their
practices on a cultural exemption. Sovereignty can be defined as supreme and independent power or
authority in government as possessed or claimed by a state or community (Dictionary.com, 2017).

How Did Octavian Rise To Power
Octavian s rise to power was a long journey that did not happen overnight. He was born on September
23rd in 63 BC, in the city of Rome. His original name was Octavius, but changed his name to Gaius
Julius Caesar Octavianus after Caesar was assassinated and to show his authenticity as heir of Julius
Caesar. He was Caesars grand nephew but was treated like a son by Caesar. Although Octavian had a
different relationship with each group of people, he became extremely likeable and the creator of the

people of Rome, Octavian was able to gain social and political power in order to be Rome s first

Brief Summary Of Bread Givers By Sara Smolinsky
Bread Givers is the story of an orthodox Jewish family who immigrate to the lower east side of New
York City. Living in extreme poverty in the early 1900 s Sara Smolinsky, the youngest of the four
Smolinsky daughters narrates the story of her struggles against patriarchy, poverty, and restrictive
Jewish practice at the turn of the century. Sara s father, Reb Smolinsky is a Rabbi and Talmudic
scholar. While Reb spends all of his time studying the Torah so he can get into heaven someday, his
wife and daughters starve and worry about eviction. Accordingly, Reb believes that his wife and
daughters only have value to the point that they contribute to his comfort and happiness. Both verbally

The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid
I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self
made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man
states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit.
This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where
anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or
Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an
economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can
harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the
Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of
their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular
model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of
the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealth from Franklin s
ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of
community and individual growth, and not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States
Representative Alney McLean, used the idea of the self made man to encourage people to better
themselves, gain

Muscles Upper Arm
The muscles of your shoulder are strongly involved whenever you throw a punch. Your anterior
deltoids, located on the front of your shoulders, work with your pectoralis major muscles to push your
arm out towards the opponent. Once you have hit the opponent, your middle trapezius, rhomboids and
latissimus dorsi draw your arm back ready for you to throw another punch.
The Muscles of the Upper Arm
Extending your arm is down to your triceps brachii. This is located on the rear of your upper arm, and
is the powerful muscle that quickly pushes your elbow out so that you can reach your opponent. Your
biceps brachii which are located on the front of your upper arm, are responsible for bending your
elbow as you pull your arm back into your original guard position again, ready to throw more

More Than A Carpenter Summary
More than a Carpenter is written by two men whose names are Josh and Sean McDowell.
First and foremost the beginning chapter, the book speaks of their experience and what lead them to a
search of happiness and meaning in life. During this search, his friend issued him a challenge to
research accurate and logical claims of Jesus Christ proving that he is God s son. Proving that he
occupied a human body living amongst men and women and he died on the cross for the sins of
humanity as well as being buried and resurrected three days later. Overall this book discusses the
answers to the questions many have on the hunt for happiness: Who am I? What is my purpose? What
is my destiny? Chapter two discusses what makes Jesus so different and what makes people
uncomfortable making him the topic of conversation. McDowell happened to run across the actual
meaning of the name Jesus Christ or as some may refer to the deity of Christ. The name Jesus was
derived from the Greek name Jeshua or Joshua meaning Jehoviah Savior or the lord saves. Christ is
also from the Greek language meaning Messiah or Mashiach from the Hebrew language which stands
for the anointed one. Chapter three had an interesting title labeled Lord, Liar, or ... Show more content

Views On Death And Dying In Western Culture
1. Reflect on Miller s (2015, p.599) Views on Death and Dying in Western Culture : These perceptions
dealing with aging and death in Western societies are unfortunately very true and I find some of them
disappointing. I think it is sad that we have come to the point of seeing our health almost as if it s not
important. It makes me upset that some ignore their health situation because they are in denial, do not
want to seem weak, or believe that they will lose their self worth. Also, it seems that some may
believe that they can control their death or sickness by taking advantage of new medical advances. It
is completely disregarding the power of God and choosing to designate the power to their physicians.

Film Analysis Of Singing In The Rain
Singin in the Rain was originally released in 1952, until it concealed by another prestigious film
called, An American in Paris . Singin in the Rain has gradually grown in popularity and appeal. The
case of Singing in the Rain demonstrates how the popular film, which has endured in value over the
years to achieve canonical status as a classic, changes in its meaning. I feel it is important to define the
word classic as it will be used here. Classic is a term that is thrown around and generally used to
describe something that is old or nostalgic. Many people will define an old car or a past era or an
entire genre of music as classical. In the case of Singin in the Rain, classic not only alludes to the film
s nostalgia but to the film as a definition for an entire genre of cinema. The film s meanings have gone
under a good amount of revision since it was first made too. Interpreting therefore amounts to much
more than depriving a film s theme, however it makes the film an object of inquiry in its own right.
The film takes place in 1927 and tells the story of Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, a famous on
screen romantic pair. Kelly plays Don, who is able to successfully transition into films with sound, but
his partner Lina (Jean Hagen) has a rough time. Lina is the blonde bombshell with the voice like

Shel Silverstein s The Giving Tree
Have you ever thought about what love means to you? Love is different for everyone. The story I read
shows us several different ways of what love is and how to show it.The tree had many different types
of love for the boy.In The Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein uses the characters of the tree and the boy to
explain the themes of love and happiness.
There are thousands of ways to show love.In the book, The Giving Tree, the tree shows its love for the
boy through the act of giving. But I have no money. I have only leaves and apples. Take my apples,
Boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and you will be happy. I wish that I could
give you something. But I have nothing left. I am just an old stump.I am sorry... Well, said the tree,
straightening herself up as she could, well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit
down, sit down and rest. All the tree wants is to show the boy she loves him, throughout the story she
shows us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tree gets its happiness when he makes the boy happy. Cut down my trunk and make a boat, said
the tree. Then you can sail away... and be happy. I have no house, said the tree. The forest is my house,
but you may cut off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy. Everything the tree has,
was given to the boy to make him happy. When the boy would come and plead for supplies, the tree
would not think twice about her decisions. If they would hurt her, or leave her with less, all she would
think about was how could I provide for this boy, how can I show him I love him and want to make
him happy.I bet you have someone so special to you, that all you want to do is make them happy. For
most of us, this would be our family. To the tree this was its family. Can you imagine having family
that doesn t love you. I can t. Even though the boy doesn t show love to the tree, the tree is still willing
to make the boy happy. That is true

Embryonic Stem Cells Persuasive Essay
Many, as of currently incurable diseases plague the Earth. Thanks to technological advancements and
better understandings of cells, scientists believe that it may be possible to cure diseases by the use of
embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are cells obtained from an embryo when they are only a
few days old. Because they have only begun to differentiate, these cells have the capability of
developing into any cell in the human body, and that s why they can be used for the progression of
medicine. Scientists hope to cure some diseases but if that isn t possible they at least hope to create
treatments using them.
The stem cell of the embryo can divide for long periods of time and still have the ability to produce all
cell type in an organism. Their ability to do so is why scientists are trying to find ways to use them to
cure or treat diseases. They think that they can programed to repair or replace the disease ridden cells
of an infected patient Some diseases that they think can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the study is designed primarily to test the safety of the treatment, researchers will looks for
signs of improvement in the patients vision. The company hopes the approach will work for many
conditions, including the leading cause of blindness among the elderly.
I think this marks the beginning of a new era for stem cell research, Robert Lanza, the company s
chief scientific officer, wrote in an email. After a decade of intense controversy, the field is finally
ready to prove itself and to actually start helping patients suffering from a range of horrific diseases. It
also shows the new readiness of the FDA to work with researchers to move exciting new stem cell
therapies out of the laboratory and into the clinic. Later this month they plan on cluding and gathering
the result of the

therapeutic alliance as the collaborate work between the client and the counselor (p. 584). Which in
other words will be the set of rules/bounds/task or contract between the therapist and the client to

Food Additives And Their Harmful Effects On Consumers ...
Food Additives and Their Harmful Effects on Consumers Health In this increasingly health conscious
culture, many Americans are looking for ways to improve their health. Whether this journey includes
adding weight training or subtracting fast food, many travelers alter their footfalls along the way.
Exercise is significant, but a nutritious diet is crucial for reaching the final destination. Because of the
role that food and drinks play in a wholesome lifestyle, many consumers have scrutinized certain
products, looking for the product s advantages or disadvantages. After this search, consumers often
have doubts about the benefits of food additives. C. Curtis, R. Meer, and S. Misner of the University

The warnings against these preservatives continue. Grace Communications Foundation warns that
research from 2006 discovered that those who commonly eat animal products containing nitrites have
a nearly three quarters higher chance of developing lung disease compared to people who abstain from
those products (sustainabletable.org). Sodium phosphate, another preservative, can increase the
chances of developing heart disease when taken above the recommended levels. However, because the
additive is so common many people consume too much and are unaware, Melanie Warner, a freelance
reporter for the New York Times, cautions (113). Consumers should not eat meat products with
additives in them because the additives can cause serious health issue in consumers. However, some
additives can improve a food s nutritional content. Health Research Funding mentions that nutrients
can be additives and improve the product s nutritional value (healthresearchfunding.org). Foods which
previously had very little nutritional value may now contain vitamins and minerals which are
necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Some additives are harmless; however, these food products that have
added nutrients also have many other harmful additives to maintain taste and appearance. Warner
believes that products with additives are made to be tasty and easy to make (117). Processed food
needs to look and taste appealing to stand against

Safeguarding Children Assignment
The specialist skills of the Health Visitor are crucially important in safeguarding children (HM
Government, 2010). In the past decade there has been significant change in nursing and healthcare that
has led to a much wider remit for those involved in working with children and subsequently child
protection (Hall and Elliman, 2006; Department of Health, 2004); indeed Health Visitors are
responding to a national drive to further enhance their contribution to public health (Department of
Health, 2009).
It is against this backdrop that the critical need to develop the leadership role of the Specialist
Community Public Health nurse within the process of recognising and referring child maltreatment
emerges. This requires Team Managers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Programme, which underpins the work of the Health Visitor, is an early intervention and
prevention public health programme that aims to provide an invaluable opportunity to identify
families that are in need of additional support and children who are at risk (Department of Health,
2009, p.6) by providing a progressive universal framework to ensure the promotion of the health and
wellbeing of children, delivered via multi agency support services. The safeguarding process requires
Health Visitors to utilise all four principles of specialist community health nursing (Nursing and
Midwifery Council, 2004) in developing child care services to prevent child maltreatment and in
ensuring rapid and appropriate help for families. Furthermore, the Healthy Child Programme
(Department of Health, 2009) establishes a leadership role for Health Visitors in delivering care
packages to support the most vulnerable children; core principles of the Programme include keeping
children healthy and safe, identification of factors that influence the health and wellbeing of families,
and partnership working with other agencies in order to refer to appropriate specialist services,
signpost to wider support, and provide co ordinated care packages (Department of Health, 2009). With
this in mind, the extent to which

article Picasso s Academic Study of a Cast of a Classical Sculpture(1893 94) and the Sight Size
Technique are two distinct displine. However, the studies of Art and History are two discipline that
intertwine with culture. With that in mind, their writing styles in an article are similar in terms of
information that is displayed, appeal, and credibility. One for example, is that Pruitt and Uraneck start

Pruitt and Uraneck display their topic as account that consist of answering of how, when, where, and
what. The language used to relay information in their account suggest that the two studies focus on

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized ( Annenberg Classroom, 2006). A search can mean everything from a frisking by a police officer to a blood test to a search of an individual s home or car. A seizure occurs when the government takes control of an individual or something in his or her possession. History 2112 Critical Analysis Paper #1 Dr. Pitts James Hamby Monday Wednesday 8:30pm Patriot s vs. People s Howard Zinn s, Peoples History of the US and Larry Schweikart s, Patriots History of the US are two analytical views on history that most people would consider politically conflicting. Zinn s Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart s book is greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known historians turned their focus on writing two historical pieces that would fill in the historical holes that weren t being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning that made for a great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really dismissed the common white mans history and focused his approach on a multiple minority perspective. Schweikart s book is very different in the sense he takes aim at Zinn as he targets words like great discovery and war on terror which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart s book really reads like old history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. While both of these journeys were epic, Santiago s circular journey back home is less significant than Odysseus s linear journey home to his wife and child. Santiago s purpose was to validate his personal legend in finding treasure. The old woman wanted to know more about his dream. She then gave her interpretation: [Santiago] must go to the Pyramids in Egypt. [She has] never heard of them, but, if it was a child who showed them to [him], they exist. There [he] will find a treasure that will make [him] a rich man. (Coelho 14) So begins his journey that takes him away from home. Kvothe In Patrick Rothfuss s The Name Of The Wind The lifestyle of a troupe of traveling performers, the meticulous science behind arcane magic, and the truth of the evil entities known as Chandrian. All of these subjects are touched upon within Patrick Rothfuss s The Name of the Wind, the first book of a three part fantasy series telling the tale of Kvothe, a man of brilliance, bravery, beauty, and most of all, bad luck (Alliteration). So far within the novel, Kvothe (who now goes as Kote) is regaling his legacy to Chronicler for history s sake, describing the death of his parents at the hands of demons, his punitive years in the alleyways of Tarbean, and his budding enrollment to the University. As the beginning of the book actually occurs in the future of most of the story, this comment inclines there is a woman that drastically affects Kvothe. The reason I believe that woman to be Denna is that she is the only female so far in the book that Kvothe has shown an interest to. Entire pages were spent describing how benevolent she is, of her goodness and grace. It would be odd if those descriptions were meaningless and Kvothe and she were never to meet again. Another prediction is that Master Hemme will be the one who gets Kvothe kicked out of the University. He is an insidious and spiteful man, attempting to humiliate Kvothe in front of his class and, when this backfired, trying to expel Kvothe for not simply rolling over and accepting his fate of being inferior. Whale Persuasive Speech To many, the thought of eating whale meat might seem strange, as they are not accustomed to consuming this kind of meat, while to others eating cow (beef) is a strange and cruel thing to do. Around the globe, there are different ways that individuals support themselves financially, and different foods that are consumed. Cultural practices are what sets each group of people apart and make us unique, neighboring counties should not be allowed to change century long practices as they see fit. Per the WDC Whaling is cruel and unnecessary and must stop. Commercial whaling is effectively banned. Trade in whale products is forbidden. Yet, every year, Japan, Norway and Iceland kill around 1,500 whales between them. They defy international bans and global opinion and they hunt whales even though there is little demand for the meat. (WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, 2017) Since the WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, was founded in the US and eating whale is not a part of its culture, it comes across as cruel. The question that one needs to ask is what difference is there in catching a whale for food versus catching mackerel or consuming beef? A mackerel is a non endangered species, but yet it is allowed. • 29. The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealth from Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States Representative Alney McLean, used the idea of the self made man to encourage people to better themselves, gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Singin in the Rain has gradually grown in popularity and appeal. The case of Singing in the Rain demonstrates how the popular film, which has endured in value over the years to achieve canonical status as a classic, changes in its meaning. I feel it is important to define the word classic as it will be used here. Classic is a term that is thrown around and generally used to describe something that is old or nostalgic. Many people will define an old car or a past era or an entire genre of music as classical. In the case of Singin in the Rain, classic not only alludes to the film s nostalgia but to the film as a definition for an entire genre of cinema. The film s meanings have gone under a good amount of revision since it was first made too.
