Symbolism Of Society In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
William Golding s modern classic, Lord of the Flies showcases a group of boys stranded on an island,
in hopes of rescue and survival. This depicts how a society of boys would function if civilization had
not been forced on them. Moreover, this novel shows us Golding s inner kept judgement of the
function of society. The boys first meet together on the island by using what later becomes a symbol
of law; the conch. It is first used as an object to keep order amongst the boys, but later becomes the
center of conflict between two clashing tribes. It represents the battle between order and chaos, and
the outcome is Golding s view of which rules in society. A constant occurrence in the book is the
bullying of the characters, Simon and Piggy. Although these characters contributed greatly to the
development of the group, their actions were never appreciated. They were both outcasts in the tribe,
never listened to, nor included in any conversations. Golding represents these characters as religion
and intelligence, and so the outcast of these boys gives us a window into which parts of society the
author deems are valuable and unnecessary. Jack, the antagonist in the book is portrayed as a vile,
aggressive creature. He and his hunters become obsessed with bloodshed and macabre, and so they
kill to satisfy their needs. What starts as killing pigs for meat as a means of survival, soon turns into an
addiction for blood leading to a bloodbath between the boys. The constant hunger for

Renewable Energy And Natural Gas
Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable
energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of
generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable energy
sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete any
resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can
use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential
than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energy also has fewer negative environmental
impacts since it does not directly release any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This
analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible
decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should
invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table
1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current
generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price
to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing
new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than
renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher
implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related
to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency
than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment, coming from happiness
in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources, i.e. people do not like to
waste time or money. Therefore, natural gas, with

Ethics
Our ethics and concept of social responsibility are important elements of our managerial decision
making process. We believe that individual values are fundamental to ethics.
Ethical approaches (moral principles and values) govern the actions and decisions of each member of
our business organisation. Each approach provides a different, but related, set of principles for judging
our managerial decisions.

The Importance Of Citizenship In The United States
The citizenship clause was adopted through the 14th amendment to the constitution in July of 1868.
The story of the citizenship clause in the United States is the story of the Civil War. In Dred Scott vs.
Sandford, the Supreme Court decision that arguably concluded a war inevitable, the justices found that
black people even those born in the United States were not considered citizens. Black people were
considered an inferior class of people, who had been overpowered by the dominant race and had no
rights but such as those who held the power and the Government might choose to grant them. This
clause represented Congress s reversal of a portion of the Dred Scott vs. Sandford decision which had
declared that African Americans could not become citizens of the United States. After the Civil War,
Congress overruled Dred Scott and passed the 14th Amendment granting birthright citizenship to all
persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof , before this
every state decided the citizenship of a person. The United States and Canada are the only nations that
allow birthright citizenship, no matter the legal status of the parents giving them full United States
citizenship. This clause was originally designed to give birthright citizenship to formerly enslaved
people and their children. But the Supreme Court confirmed in a later ruling, it also gives citizenship
to anyone born in America, even in cases where the parents aren t citizens of

Discrimination Against Women In School Sports
I attended the live streaming showing at the Dohney Campus. The things I learned from the event is
that women are under represented in school sports and in the professional arena. One of the statistics
given was by Mayor Eric Garcetti and he said that women s professional teams make zero dollars per
event compared to men s professional teams making $260,000. And, the reason is because Title 9 does
not apply to NWA because it is a non profit. For me this statement was not surprising but, I would
have thought that there would be some types of laws and regulations against this type of
discrimination. Moreover, Mayor Garcetti, has increased the number of women in high level positions
at City Hall by having at least one woman in each committee. Mayor Garcetti is working on hard on
gender equality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I liked how she was able to connect all the things that women have to do while handling their careers.
She made an obvious point that in the future many women are not going to what to choose between
their careers or having a family. They are going to want to have both and that it is fine. Moreover,
President Johnson did a nice job presenting the statistics found in the Report on the Status of Women
and Girls in California. One of the statistics shared was that Hispanic and Asian women are living
longer but African women are not. This is an area in which we have to work as a community to better
the lives of African American women so they could live longer. She spoke in a very clear tone and was
very enthusiastic about what she was speaking. Overall, the Report on Status of Women and Girls in

realize there is a complication because he can not develop things in his mind as easily as the other

he becomes a danger to other men. Mercy killing in Lennie s situation was the better decision because

Netflix And Hulu Comparison
Netflix and Hulu plus are pretty similar, both have video streaming and entertain people, but Netflix is
way better in many ways. Hulu has recent seasons and more seasons of shows. Netflix has more TV
shows and movies. Netflix also has no commercials. While Hulu people have to wait 2 minutes for the
show to come back on. People can also, rent DVDs on Netflix. These some examples on why Netflix
is way better than Hulu Plus. One reason Netflix is better than Hulu plus is that it has a lot of TV
shows and movies people can choose from. A person can spend hours just flipping through shows, and
if they do not feel like watching a show, they can watch a movie instead. Netflix has shows that have
already ended or do not show any more on regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure People have the most recent episodes on Hulu, but they can also go to the show s website and
watch it there. Hulu may have more seasons of show on Netflix. Hulu also has shows, that Netflix
does not have for example the show Community. It is a great show it is very funny, but it is not on
Netflix. For people to watch it they have to go to Hulu or stream somewhere else. It s pretty much the
only thing good about Hulu plus. Another reason Netflix is way better than Netflix, is that they do not
have commercials/ads. People can sit around at home and binge watch their show without any
interruptions. When a person is watching their favorite show and getting really into it, they do not
have to be interrupted by a commercial for baby s diapers. They do not have to wait two minutes of
the same commercial playing over and over every commercial break.
Hulu, on the other hand has commercials. It is terrible right when the ad is done they show a little bit
of the show and there is an ad again. A two minute ad is not big deal, but it could get really annoying
especially if the ad buffers and just keeps buffering. Unless they have like ad blocker on your
computer, but nobody has time for that and sometimes people do not stream on their computers, so
they cannot put an ad blocker on their streaming

Lifestyle Of Living In Prison
When a person is diagnosed with diabetes they must develop an entirely new lifestyle. In life a person
has the freedom to eat what they want and when they want, but when diagnosed as a diabetic that all
changes. Being diabetic is like being in prison. A diabetic and a prisoner must develop to a new
lifestyle, cope with the lack of certain privileges and rights, and handle monitoring their blood sugar
levels all day like being watched by the patrol guards.
First, a diabetic has a new lifestyle of constant finger pricks and insulin injections to get acquainted
with. The ability to develop a new schedule and activities of living as a diabetic is at times painful and
hard. The ordinary life of going day by day not worried about what a person eats gets torn right out
from underneath them. Diabetics have a hard time coping with the totally new way of living. Being
diabetic is like being a prisoner in one s own body. A prisoner also must develop a new lifestyle. Being
behind bars in a small, cold, and damp room is totally different than being able to lay in a comfy bed
or sit on a fluffy sofa. Prisoners are placed on a certain schedule as well, but for reasons such as time
to shower, or time to go to the yard. Being in prison can tear a person s lifestyle apart because they are
unable to go home to their house or do everyday things like shop, or even spend time with their kids.
Being diabetic is a rough situation for people that have never dealt with any sort of health conditions.

What Is The Figurative Language In The Odyssey

(12) In this quote, Homer using figurative language simile to emphasize that Zeus s thundering is like
a whistle to him. He s not afraid of any Gods. We can see because Zeus was known as the ruler of the

among them because this means war to them, but Odysseus and his people are not his opponents.

Please provide a summary of what paraphilia you researched in this weeks DB and assignment. The
paraphilia that I choose to dicuss is transvestic fetishism which has two parts for the diagnosis they are
a) over a period of at least 6 months, in a heterosexual male, recurrent, intense sexually arousing
fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving cross dressing and b) the fantasies, sexual urges, or
behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important
areas of functioning. There mey be an increased risk for sexual acting out for example, subjects have

behavior based on self induced cerebral anoxia by hanging or suffocation during masturbation. In one
study results indicated that 36 men and 5 women ever having experienced sexual arousal from actual
cross dressing behavior, results suggest that sexual arousal to cross dressing is rare, but could be
associated with potentially criminal paraphilic sexual behavior such as voyeuristic and exhibitionistic
acts, and there was a non significant trend suggesting that childhood sexual victimization was related
to transvestic fetishism. Was there any research located linking bullying and paraphilia? Explain

Flipping Pages While Drinking Coffee Essay
Flipping Pages While Drinking Coffee
I never really got into the world of coffee shops especially a coffee shop/bookstore all in one. When I
used to think of Barnes and Noble, I thought of people like my cousin who is somewhat snobbish and
would spend her evenings there reading and drinking her coffee. The other type of person that seemed
like they would fit there is, I guess what one would call, a bookworm or nerd. I know that seems a bit
harsh, but one tends to get stereotypes of things that are unfamiliar to them.
Through visiting Barnes and Noble I realized that my assumptions were entirely wrong. There were
very few snobbish looking people there. A gentleman who works at Barnes and Noble said that one of

compared to the rest of the store. This area contained larger tables with more chairs around them.
There was a group of ladies there who seemed to be having a meeting. After my tour of the store I
went back to my friend and we sat at one of the few tables left. It was quite small and right next to the
coffee shop.
After we sat down I tried to look around to see what type of person was there. It seemed as though
there were many students there. Some of them were studying, while others were socializing. I had
pictured that it would have a quiet atmosphere like that of a library. On the contrary, it was actually
quite noisy around the coffee shop area. As you got farther away from this area though, it tended to
become quieter as people settled down into the comfy couches to read. But as for the area that we

The Enduring Chill
However, The Lame Shall Enter First is not the only story that exemplifies the idea that faith and
intellectualism cannot intermingle. The Enduring Chill does this as well. Through Asbury, O Connor
portrays intellectuals as disrespectful, whiny, and prideful. In the story, Asbury repeats What s wrong
with me is way beyond you ( Enduring 367). This idea that even his problems are better than others
shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the
doctor treating him. For O Connor, this was a way to show her audience her distaste for intellectuals.
Asbury also shows disrespect in regard to his mother. For Asbury, the woman who raised him ruined
his life, showing how intellectualism has affected Asbury. According to A. R. Coulthard, Asbury, the
effete failed writer who comes home to let his mother nurse him while he dies in The Enduring Chill,
constantly demeans his parent s lack of intelligence (Coulthard 248). Even though she is taking care of
him, Asbury degrades her, making her seem like a villain and an idiot, which she is not. These actions
are in direct violation of the church, specifically commandment four of the Ten Commandments,
which is Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord
your God gives you ( The Ten Commandments ). Based on this, it becomes clear how faith and
intellectualism are against each other, as Asbury s intellectual pride makes him

High voltage overhead conductors are not covered by insulation. The conductor material is nearly
always an aluminium alloy, made into several strands and possibly reinforced with steel strands.
Copper was sometimes used for overhead transmission but aluminium is lower in weight for only
marginally reduced performance, and much lower in cost. Overhead conductors are a commodity
supplied by several companies worldwide. Improved conductor material and shapes are regularly used
to allow increased capacity and modernize transmission circuits. Conductor sizes range from 12 mm2
(#6 American wire gauge) to 750 mm2 (1,590,000 circular mils area), with varying resistance and
current carrying capacity. Thicker wires would lead to a relatively small increase in capacity due to the
skin effect, that causes most of the current to flow close to the surface of the wire.
Today, transmission level voltages are usually considered to be 110 kV and above. Lower voltages
such as 66 kV and 33 kV are usually considered

Haiti Economy
The main purpose of this essay is to examine the current economic development and the future
economy of Haiti. Haiti has ranked #1 as the poorest country in the Americas consecutively for the
past decade. It has experienced a lot of political violence throughout history. Some events that have
left an indelible mark are the colonization and the 2010 earthquake. The Republic of Haiti is located in
the Caribbean neighboring the Dominican Republic. Haiti has also encountered rivalry with its
neighboring countries such as the Dominican Republic. The official languages spoken in the nation

eBay should keep a close eye on threats to their company and do what they can to make them
opportunities for change.
Conclusion By implementing their business model, eBay employed three main tactics. First, they
looked to build strategic partnerships, such as PayPal and Half.com. Second, they looked for customer
feedback to constantly make changes and improvements. Finally, they monitored of their internal and
external environments for possible opportunities. By initiating all of these tactics, eBay is able to
adapt to the changing ways while keeping their customers satisfied. To be successful eBay must
continue to mold and change their business model to satisfy customers and keep the level of quality
they employ to the highest degree possible. If eBay is able to work these ideas into their everyday

Kahn, 1990; Lawler, 1986). This paper analyzes motivation theory and identifies solutions to
questions such as...(1) what is motivation and/or employee involvement, (2) how does motivation
affect employment involvement, (3) what affect does employee involvement have towards increasing
organizational effectiveness, and finally (4) what needs to happen to change the trajectory of low
motivation and employee involvement.
The Important Road Ahead: Optimizing Value and Performance
Understanding the motivating basis of a behavior makes it easier to deal with that behavior and
improve performance. Motivation and Employee Involvement are two of the most researched and
often, challenging aspects experienced by organizations and leaders today. Many leaders remain,
despite clear majority of research, ill equipped to motivate their employees or lack understanding of
link between them. Furthermore, studies indicate that the understanding of the importance of
employee involvement by employer is essential to managers because this is a significant predictor of
work behavior among employees (e.g. Manojlovich, Laschinger, Heather, 2002). Thus, to create
responsiveness for operational excellence, the employees representing the organization must be
valued. Creating this balance, it is essential that business designs encompasses offer support and
training for leaders/employees to work well together and appreciate the efforts of each member.

The variation in stopping power value with energy for protons.
A heavy charged particle traversing matter loses energy mainly through the ionization and excitation

As protons move through liquid water, they ionize or excite atoms or molecules of the matter (water)
and deposit a dose or energy along their path. If a charged particle has a greater energy and moving
faster, it has a lower tendency to lose energy along its path in per unit path length.5 Similarly, at
higher energy, protons move relatively faster and thus ionize and excite fewer molecules, therefore, its
stopping power is lower.5 However, as their energy decrease, protons transfer more energy to the
medium and the stopping power would be higher as shown in Figure 1. Consequently, the stopping
power or LET depends on its energy.5 The energy loss increases towards the end of the range, reaches
a maximum, which is called the Bragg peak, and abruptly drop to zero before the protons stop. The
Bragg peak occurs because the interaction cross section of the medium increases as the proton s
energy decreases.1,

The Catcher in the Rye Relative to the 1950 s Essay
The Catcher in the Rye Relative to the 1950 s
The Catcher in the Rye can be strongly considered as one of the greatest novels of all time and Holden
Caufield distinguishes himself as one of the greatest and most diverse characters. His moral system
and his sense of justice force him to detect horrifying flaws in the society in which he lives.
However, this is not his principle difficulty. His principle difficulty is not that he is a rebel, or a
coward, nor that he hates society, it is that he has had many experiences and he remembers everything.
Salinger indicates this through Holden s confusion of time throughout the novel. Experiences at

the madness described before at often times throughout the book and in the end it ends up sending him

but he never really believes it. One time in the book when he displays this madness is,

The Position of Women in Pakistan
What steps should be taken to improve the role of minorities women in Pakistan s economy
No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you. We are victims
of evil customs. It is a crime against humanity that our women are shut up within the four walls of the
houses as prisoners. There is no sanction anywhere for the deplorable condition in which our women
have to live.
― Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Introduction:
The appearance of women in country s evolution and pace of their growth is simply cannot be
neglected but the truth remains that their stature is not being positively bestowed in Pakistan until
now.
As we know, that Pakistan is an underprivileged country and still contending for economic
immobility, safety, education and health commitments for its people. There are endless problems of
exploitation and unfairness in almost every face of life. Unluckily, its judgement for graft is seventh in
the world. Women are one of the most defenseless groups that we directly cannot discount
The important aspects that supremacy women of Pakistan towards prostrate dignity, there are many
perception and details that provide a means to it. For instance:
 They dint bear equal stature at birth; baby boys are consistently desired and greeted into a moderate
family of Pakistan.
 Girls are not considered as dynamic and self assured human beings who can earn a creditable
earning and can live in regard to their own best.

Currently a chest x ray is the most common tool used to detect asbestos related diseases. However, it
is important to note that chest x ray cannot detect asbestos fibers in the lungs, but it can help to
identify any early signs of lung disease caused by exposure to asbestos.
Studies have shown that computed tomography (CT) (a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the
body from different angles; the pictures are created by a computer linked to a x) may be more
effective than traditional chest x rays to detect asbestos related lung abnormalities in individuals who
have been exposed to asbestos.
Lung biopsy, which reveals the microscopic asbestos fibers in pieces of lung tissue removed by
surgery, is the most reliable test to confirm the existence of asbestos related abnormality. Less invasive
test than biopsy Bronchoscopy reveals asbestos fibers in materials that are rinsed out of the lungs. It is
important to note that these tests cannot determine how much asbestos individual were or whether to

Essay On Social Phobia
The happiness and comfort of people stem from their ability to adapt to the environment and people.
To satisfy this need, they must interact positively in their relationships. People who are afraid of
people will have adjustment problems, which will lead to a lack of happiness, a normal daily life, and
the proper functioning of their tasks. This characteristic appears especially when someone is mixing
with people, talking, or doing a certain job in front of people. Then, the person feels scared and
ashamed. In addition, this person may not be able to speak, start stuttering or stammering. Some
people who are afraid to face people sometimes feel some physical symptoms such as increased
sweating, rapid heart palpitations, or dry throat. This kind of fear is called social phobia or social
anxiety, which is the unwarranted fear. Social phobia is a chronic psychological disease that is due to
several different causes.
Wrong dealing parents with their children during childhood is one of the most important reasons that
makes a person suffer from this type of fear, social phobia. Ignorance and lack of adequate attention to
children are one of the wrong dealings made by some parents. This disregard makes kids feel that they
are not worth attention. Thus, they do not have confidence in themselves. Moreover, the lack of
consistency in dealing with children causes them to be unaware of their parents reaction to their
behavior. For example, when parents are asserted in a particular

Whatis.com (2004) defines a database as a collection of information that is organized so that it can
easily be accessed, managed, and updated. In my current job at Wellco Tank Trucks, Inc., we do not
use any type of databases in the daily operations of our business. My only job that involved regular
use of a database was at Chilcutt Direct Marketing (CDM) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From

at Chilcutt Direct Marketing spends an average of five hours per day actively using the Marketing
Information Network database. MIN definitely made our jobs at CDM easier but the database would
be much more beneficial to the company if a few changes were made. First, there have been several
updates released for the AS/400 operating system that CDM uses but they are still using the original
version. If they would update their operating system, they would find that the program would be more
user friendly and would be much more dependable. The other improvement that needs I suggest is in
the consistency of functions within the database. For example, if you are in the order entry screen, the
F1 function key is the command for field exit, the F4 key is for deleting and F5 updates the screen. In
the order shipment screen, F1 is the command for delete, F4 is update, and F5 is field exit. This makes
it very difficult to use and very easy to make mistakes. Over the years, other mailing list databases

How to Streamline Student Finances at Your School
This article will explain how school administrators can use one system to manage students financial
aid data. The admissions office, registrar and accounting department can have access to the same data
simultaneously.
A school s accounting procedures and financial management systems can have a significant impact on
the effectiveness and accountability for all funds received by the U.S. Department of Education as
well as the ability of school staff to serve students as quickly and efficiently as possible. As a school
administrator, you probably already understand the complex intricacies of managing student finances.
However, you may not realize how crucial each step can be for streamlining student finances at your
school.
Synchronizing Operations and Responsibilities
When it comes to managing student finances and financial aid, the departments primarily responsible
for keeping things running smoothly are admissions, bursar and accounting. Especially when you re
dealing with financial aid benefits like the Federal Work Study Program, the financial aid department
usually authorizes awards as well as monitors student earnings. However, the bursar s office usually
processes payroll and manages the school s non federal share of Federal Work Study programs.

American Pie Is A Song That Made A Huge Impact On Americans
American Pie is a song that made a huge impact on Americans in any time period. Don McLean sang
about the events from the nineteen fifties through nineteen seventies after Buddy Holly s death. Many
events from those years are controversial. McLean also stated how music changed from these decades.
Rock n Roll used to be popular since the fifties. American Pie by Don McLean describes the transition
in Rock n Roll music from the iconic history of the mid nineteen hundred. Nonetheless, many critics
assume the first line of the chorus relates to McLean s relationship with the Miss America contestant.
According to the Understanding American Pie website, the catchy phrase, So bye bye, Miss American
Pie, refers to, the beauty queen Miss America (Fann 3). During McLean s successful career, he dated
Miss America, which Americans said that she is as American as an apple pie. She represents the
simplicity in American history that carried meaning. Miss America does not correlate with the theme
of the song. The transformation of Rock n Roll music was impacted by different elements instead of
Miss America. The lyric, So bye bye, Miss American Pie, that Americans assume is the Miss America
never cause the change of events and music. Primarily, McLean wrote this song after his Rock n Roll

2.3.2 Combining the two: CST and Online Heuristic
Online Heuristic standalone. The problem with implementing the online heuristic standalone is we
need a set of K initial seed clusters so that the incoming edges can fall into the five cases with equal
probability. But if the online heuristic is applied with empty clusters, then most of the floating in edges
fall in CASE 1 i.e. making a new cluster, then we will have large number of clusters with single edges.
Then after the total number of clusters exceed the number of clusters threshold then the further edges
that fall in CASE 1 will be dropped, resulting in loss of many edges.
Online Heuristic with CST. To solve the above problem, we initially make the seed clusters with the
existing nodes/users using CST and once we have formed K equal size coherent clusters, we switch to
Online Heuristic for real time performance.
Note that the initial K seed clusters can be generated using any offline graph partitioning

Pros And Cons Of Authoritarian Leadership
There are several different styles of leadership that can be used by a leader, whether if it is within the
public services or not. Each style works at different points of a situation; therefore, a leader must be
able to change between the required leadership style to ensure that a task is completed to the best of a
team s ability. It is unlikely that only one type of leadership would be required during a task, so if a
leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed.
Authoritarian
Authoritarian leadership; also known as autocratic leadership; is an extremely direct style of
leadership where the leader remains in control the whole time and tells the other team members what
they must do. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation, therefore this
could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to use authoritarian
when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the team must work to, or
the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very demanding which people may not
be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response from a team as it mainly relies on
intimidation to work efficiently.
Authoritarian leadership is mainly seen within the military (British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal
Navy) where discipline is a major factor of their training and day to day life.
There are both pros and cons with using authoritarian leadership, depending on

Filibuster In The Senate Essay
Christian Sandoval PA 200 4/2/2016 Filibuster In the Senate The US Constitution created the simple
format of Majority Rule and Minority right. The minority has the right to express their beliefs, it is the
majority that creates the legislation. However, the minority s has the power of filibustering and the
ability to block legislation. In the video by Moyers Company the video talks about the subject of how
the rules of filibuster in the senate have changed throughout the years and the different senate
majorities have made those different changes. Filibusters create partisanship and are frustrating,
especially to the majority party, but they are necessary and acceptable tool for the lawmakers to use
against the majority. Filibusters can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority party is not able to be as powerful with their choices and ideology as they want. This
allows for all parties and hopefully all of the population a rather equal representation in the
government. It works as a check and balance to the House of Representatives who has overruled the
use of the filibuster. The reason being that a bill passed by the House must also go through the Senate.
The filibuster is a tool not to just be thrown around lightly by the minority party ,however, because at
some point on down the line they will be the majority party and it could come back to hurt them. A lot
of the time an actual filibuster does not have to be used by the minority however. The threat of the
filibuster is sometimes enough to get the job done. Although there have being propositions to change
the filibuster rules in order to make them a burden on the filibustering speaker in the long run when
the ruling party changes to minority it can be troublesome for them. Few years back Senator Reid
from Nevada wanted to make changes to the filibustering tactics this tactic as it applies to executive
nominees but, because next time Republicans are in charge there are no guarantees that they would
restrict themselves in this

Internet Esteem And Its Effects Of Internet Adolescents
Higher self esteem results in better academic performance, well being and coping strategies among
adolescents (Trzesniewski et al., 2003). On the other hand, low level of self esteem has negative
effects. These include isolation, loneliness, depression and substance abuse. Thus, it is very important
to have high level of self esteem among adolescents so that they can live a better life ahead. There are
many research studies done that emphasis on internet addiction and its effect on adolescents. There
results include effect on their academic performance, well being, self esteem and increase family
conflicts. According to one of the research done by Young (1998), it reported that individuals who
have high internet addiction among adolescents have low levels of self esteem. In addition, low self
esteem is also found to be one of the reasons for internet addiction in adolescents and indulge
themselves more into social networking sites, so that their sense of self worth increases (Greenberg,
Lewis Dodd, 1999). Thus, self esteem is considered to be as an antecedent of internet addiction as well
as the consequence of it. FAMILY COMMUNICATION PATTERN AND INTERNET ADDCITION
Family by its nature is a social unit wherein children grow up and it acts like the socialization agent.
Children receive their earliest and most consistent socialization here in the family. In a family it is
very important as to how parents cater the needs of their children and how children take care of them

How Students Adopt Social Media
Introduction
This study will examine how HPU students adopt social media, and if there are any difference
between an early American adopter versus an early Scandinavian adopter. The literature review will
guide this study by give an understanding of how new innovations in social media are being adopted
by the use of Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The first three sections of the literature review will
provide information of the American and Scandinavian culture, with the focus on the differences in the
use of technology between them. The forth section will provide Social Media and Facebook, which is
essential in understanding this study. In sum, this literature review consists of the following sections:

The definitions explain that culture as human made and that it is learned, it highlights subjective
elements such as values, beliefs and behaviors. However, culture is a term that is difficult to define
and it is difficult to identify all the factors that it encompasses (Davey, 2011). Culture includes gender,
sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status, and cultural background (Peters Williams, 2009). Other
terms such as mainstream, minority, ethnicity religion and race are used to describe how a group of
people, a community or a nation lives in their social and physical environment (Schinke Hanrahan,
2009).
2.2 American Culture and Technology
From a historic viewpoint, the American culture has dominated global culture based on its
technological leadership of Web based and consumer technology (Ashby, 2006). While these
innovations are adopted outside the United States, in America it becomes less and more global.
Cortada (2009) explains that American Web sites, applications and high tech gadgets are dispersed
worldwide, which results that it becomes less US centric, even though they remain influenced by
American culture. By using Facebook in this thesis, one sees that this technology is clearly a part of
American culture, but worldwide adoption causes them to become less American. Nye (1997)
explained, Machines are social constructions which Americans long have

Sociolinguistics and Development of Israel’s Arab Minority
The objective of this report is to give a concise study regarding the Arab minority in Israel. It will
trace some significant issues that have impacted the overall linguistic reality, nevertheless the
marginalization of Arabs in that small but complex country. It will track the language policy adopted
in that country, the educational, political, practical, social, ideological reasons that have lead to the
Arabic status in Israel. Spolsky and shohamy(1999a:41)suggest an obvious difference among three
things, language practices language ideology and language policy.
Language practices are the actual use of linguistic repertoire, that is, the options among language
varieties and languages accessible to a society. Language ideology is ... Show more content on

As a result, this situation of Hebrew becoming the national language has created a linguistic and social
dominance across all domains. This superstratum of Hebrew in Israel can be seen in most of the
domains such as governmental departments and institutions, advertisements, the media, court
procedures and education.
This linguistic reality, has added to the negative social attitudes towards the Arabic minority, the
economic status of a minority language is likely to be a key element in language vitality. Palestinians
in Israel, who constitute an indigenous and national minority, are considered a minority of low socio
economic status (Smooha, 2005) this in return has created hegemony amongst the majority towards
the Arab minority in the state of Israel (unit glossary)
Furthermore, this linguistic reality, has enforced endogamy, where Arab Israelis, have to create state of
affairs to maintain and develop the Arabic language by encouraging community activities such,
literature events such as poetry, readings, and other literature competitions, further attention to
elementary and secondary school in their towns and villages, and continuous discussions and debates
regarding the Arabic language policy to further improve and relinquish its status..
The social reality mentioned above has contributed towards the negative economic, social and
political status, which in return, has further marginalized and

Role of Intelligence in India’s Security
RN KAO MEMORIAL LECTURE BY SHRI NARESH CHANDRA
India s Security Challenges in the next decade Role of Intelligence
I feel greatly honoured and privileged to have been asked to deliver the R. N. Kao Memorial Lecture
this year. I believe, it is the sixth in the series started in 2007 by Shri Tharakan, the then Secretary, R
amp;AW . It feels good to be following the five distinguished speakers who have delivered the lecture
in previous years.
Before this distinguished gathering, it is hardly necessary to enumerate the achievements of Shri
Ramji Kao, one of the most celebrated civil servants of our time and the architect of our secret service.
He was given charge of organizing the R amp;AW in September, 1968. Shri Kao had been ... Show

Proper intelligence input is essential to taking informed decisions on issues of national security.
Intelligence agencies are important arms of the State for meeting external challenges and for the
proper management of internal security.
In brief, our national security objectives are: (i) preservation of territorial and maritime integrity of the
country; (ii) having friendly relations with all countries; (iii) providing for sustained economic and
social development accessible to all; (iv) creating credible capacities to meet conventional and non
conventional threats and challenges emerging from space and cyber space; and (v) nurturing the
values of secularism and democracy. These objectives set the agenda for our policies and programmes
and bring out the challenges that we face in the future for the successful prosecution of these
objectives.
To consider the security environment in which we have to fashion our policies, we find that the global
strategic context is changing rapidly, driven by the speed of technology development, realignment of
forces with the recent decline in the markets of the West along with emerging economic strength and
rise of China and India. Many see in this a strategic shift from the West to the East, but one has to be
realistic and not assume that this shift is going to indefinitely endure. Even today, the

  • 2. Symbolism Of Society In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies William Golding s modern classic, Lord of the Flies showcases a group of boys stranded on an island, in hopes of rescue and survival. This depicts how a society of boys would function if civilization had not been forced on them. Moreover, this novel shows us Golding s inner kept judgement of the function of society. The boys first meet together on the island by using what later becomes a symbol of law; the conch. It is first used as an object to keep order amongst the boys, but later becomes the center of conflict between two clashing tribes. It represents the battle between order and chaos, and the outcome is Golding s view of which rules in society. A constant occurrence in the book is the bullying of the characters, Simon and Piggy. Although these characters contributed greatly to the development of the group, their actions were never appreciated. They were both outcasts in the tribe, never listened to, nor included in any conversations. Golding represents these characters as religion and intelligence, and so the outcast of these boys gives us a window into which parts of society the author deems are valuable and unnecessary. Jack, the antagonist in the book is portrayed as a vile, aggressive creature. He and his hunters become obsessed with bloodshed and macabre, and so they kill to satisfy their needs. What starts as killing pigs for meat as a means of survival, soon turns into an addiction for blood leading to a bloodbath between the boys. The constant hunger for ... • 3. Renewable Energy And Natural Gas Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable energy sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete any resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energy also has fewer negative environmental impacts since it does not directly release any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment, coming from happiness in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources, i.e. people do not like to waste time or money. Therefore, natural gas, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Importance Of Citizenship In The United States The citizenship clause was adopted through the 14th amendment to the constitution in July of 1868. The story of the citizenship clause in the United States is the story of the Civil War. In Dred Scott vs. Sandford, the Supreme Court decision that arguably concluded a war inevitable, the justices found that black people even those born in the United States were not considered citizens. Black people were considered an inferior class of people, who had been overpowered by the dominant race and had no rights but such as those who held the power and the Government might choose to grant them. This clause represented Congress s reversal of a portion of the Dred Scott vs. Sandford decision which had declared that African Americans could not become citizens of the United States. After the Civil War, Congress overruled Dred Scott and passed the 14th Amendment granting birthright citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof , before this every state decided the citizenship of a person. The United States and Canada are the only nations that allow birthright citizenship, no matter the legal status of the parents giving them full United States citizenship. This clause was originally designed to give birthright citizenship to formerly enslaved people and their children. But the Supreme Court confirmed in a later ruling, it also gives citizenship to anyone born in America, even in cases where the parents aren t citizens of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The things I learned from the event is that women are under represented in school sports and in the professional arena. One of the statistics given was by Mayor Eric Garcetti and he said that women s professional teams make zero dollars per event compared to men s professional teams making $260,000. And, the reason is because Title 9 does not apply to NWA because it is a non profit. For me this statement was not surprising but, I would have thought that there would be some types of laws and regulations against this type of discrimination. Moreover, Mayor Garcetti, has increased the number of women in high level positions at City Hall by having at least one woman in each committee. Moreover, President Johnson did a nice job presenting the statistics found in the Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California. Through Asbury, O Connor portrays intellectuals as disrespectful, whiny, and prideful. In the story, Asbury repeats What s wrong with me is way beyond you ( Enduring 367). This idea that even his problems are better than others shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the doctor treating him. For O Connor, this was a way to show her audience her distaste for intellectuals. Asbury also shows disrespect in regard to his mother. Coulthard, Asbury, the effete failed writer who comes home to let his mother nurse him while he dies in The Enduring Chill, constantly demeans his parent s lack of intelligence (Coulthard 248). Even though she is taking care of him, Asbury degrades her, making her seem like a villain and an idiot, which she is not. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As protons move through liquid water, they ionize or excite atoms or molecules of the matter (water) and deposit a dose or energy along their path. If a charged particle has a greater energy and moving faster, it has a lower tendency to lose energy along its path in per unit path length.5 Similarly, at higher energy, protons move relatively faster and thus ionize and excite fewer molecules, therefore, its stopping power is lower.5 However, as their energy decrease, protons transfer more energy to the medium and the stopping power would be higher as shown in Figure 1. Consequently, the stopping power or LET depends on its energy.5 The energy loss increases towards the end of the range, reaches a maximum, which is called the Bragg peak, and abruptly drop to zero before the protons stop. The Bragg peak occurs because the interaction cross section of the medium increases as the proton s energy decreases.1, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His moral system and his sense of justice force him to detect horrifying flaws in the society in which he lives. However, this is not his principle difficulty. His principle difficulty is not that he is a rebel, or a coward, nor that he hates society, it is that he has had many experiences and he remembers everything. Each style works at different points of a situation; therefore, a leader must be able to change between the required leadership style to ensure that a task is completed to the best of a team s ability. It is unlikely that only one type of leadership would be required during a task, so if a leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed. Authoritarian Authoritarian leadership; also known as autocratic leadership; is an extremely direct style of leadership where the leader remains in control the whole time and tells the other team members what they must do. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation, therefore this could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to use authoritarian when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the team must work to, or the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very demanding which people may not be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response from a team as it mainly relies on intimidation to work efficiently. The filibuster is a tool not to just be thrown around lightly by the minority party ,however, because at some point on down the line they will be the majority party and it could come back to hurt them. A lot of the time an actual filibuster does not have to be used by the minority however. The threat of the filibuster is sometimes enough to get the job done.
