Examples Of Writer Misconceptions
The Common Misconceptions of a Writer C.J. Hawkings There are many misconceptions about
writers that people believe. Many of these misconceptions come from movies. Every writer knows
these misconceptions aren t correct. It is easy to believe things that aren t the truth. It is difficult to
decipher fact from fiction. Ahead, bear witness to the misconceptions that people often believe . Be
prepared to learn the cold hard truth behind both. These truths might surprise and get people to think
twice. Hopefully, they consider changing their views and their beliefs. Misconceptions What is the
first thing you think of when you think writer ? Do you think piles of notebooks? Pens and pencils?

they live in a rundown apartment of their own. This is where they only own the bare necessities.
Brushes with Fame: Okay, brushes with fame are known to happen but they are rare. Some people are

Key Life Events
In James 4:14 (NIV) God says What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and
vanishes . Even as a 28 year old I can see the reality of these words. My life is short, and it is
important to make the years I have on earth count. In order to make sure I am spending my time on
earth wisely, it can be beneficial to reflect on past events from my life. In this essay I will discuss
some positive events from my timeline, key transitions that changed my life in a positive way,
negative events in my life, and key transitions that changed my life in a negative way, and finally I
will discuss what I discovered about myself through this mapping exercise. In addition I will also
explain how I feel, and give a short summary of my life. The most positive events in my life line map

Discussing this subject is like peeling back old wounds. They may be healed, but they will always be
there. It is not something that can be undone, but I can use this event as an opportunity to learn, grow
and motivation to change for the future. After rehashing this subject, it is extra motivation for me to
stay committed in my own marriage, and do whatever is necessary to make my marriage strong. I also
discovered how much a perspective can change with enough time. Like I mentioned previously
moving out of my mom s place did not seem like a positive event at the time, but looking back I
realize just what a pivotal step that was. I would have never received the blessings and the good that
came out of that negative situation. I also realized that my timeline is continual and that there will be
future events on my timeline which seem negative at the time. It might take some time and patience to
see the good that God can make out of a tough

The Test Of Patients Admitted At The Massachusetts General...
2. a) The study used a consecutive non randomized, non probability sampling method. The study
selected records of patients admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) between
September 1997 and August 2008 in a consecutive manner until a specific number was obtained. In
this study, the number was 297. The study excluded 62 records that did not fit the sampling
requirements. The final sample was n = 235 (Salinas et al., 2012). When using consecutive sampling
techniques, the researcher includes all patients who agree to participate, provided that they meet
specific pre established criteria. The researcher will stop the selection process when the desired
sample is achieved. This sampling technique is similar to the convenience sampling technique except,
that it aims to represent the whole cohort of the population (Fain, 2013). It is considered the most
reliable non probability sampling technique. This sampling method is more credible and possesses a
higher validity level than any other non probability sampling method. It also decreases the possibility
of researcher s bias. However, this sampling technique faces the same issue of all the non probability
sampling techniques as the possibility of bias is always present (Fain, 2013). Another drawback of the
consecutive sampling technique lies within the possibility that the response rate and the type of
individuals responding may influence the findings. The responding individuals may have life
circumstances or personal

The Negative Effects Of Binge Drinking In College
Binge drinking in college can negatively impact your college experience by increasing the possibility
of physical and sexual assault, injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and academic problems. Social
influence has a major impact on the amount of alcohol college students consume. In particular, this
paper will discuss how direct offers, perceived descriptive norms, injunctive norms, and exposure to
alcohol content on social media networks increase the amount of alcohol college students consume.
Direct offers can range anywhere from a simple gesture to persistent encouragement from others.
Meisel and Alfai s research sample consisted of 156 college students who have consumed alcohol in
the last 30 days. There were 99 females and 57 males between the ages of 18 and 24. The study s
participants included Asians, Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, African Americans, and Caucasians, who
were the majority of the participants. First, the participants were asked to list 10 goals to focus on over
the next couple of months. Then they were asked to rate their top five goals on a scale of 0 10 based
on importance. After rating their goals they were asked: How many times they have been offered a
drink in the past year? Finally, the students had to fill out the Daily Drinking Questionnaire which was
used to assess the quantity of alcohol consumed in the past month and the frequency of heavy drinking
episodes (4 drinks per occasion for females and 5 drinks per occasion for males) (Meisel Alfai, 2015).
The study s results discovered that direct offers have less of an influence on students with higher
levels of goal meaning. Even though the students with higher levels of goal meaning are less likely to
be influenced, direct offers are still shown to have a major impact on increased college drinking. In
relation to college drinking, perceived descriptive norms refer to the perception of how much or how
frequently others drink (Rinker Neighbors, 2013). Rinker and Neighbors research participants
consisted of 1095 culturally diverse college students including, Caucasians, Asians, African
Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans. There were also slightly more female
than male participants and a

My Mother As A Hero
Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a lovely
image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to touch her
child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but, furthermore, I
admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and me. Although my
mother did not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening to her stories about
Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that fearless fighter who
protected me and guided me through hardships.
Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep for
weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of light.
Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night shifts she
would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the sun to rise, and for
my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have been the ones to teach
me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or to at least act brave. Not
having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize that I cannot depend on
anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own fear.
Going through life I stuck to acting brave.

Math in Special Education Essay
There s no denying that education is constantly changing, but what s truly astounding is the difference
that can be throughout the years in math. More is changing in math classrooms than the tools that are
used. The expectations that 21st century students face are completely transforming the approach that s
being taken in classrooms across America. The United States wants to make sure its students are ready
to compete on a global level, and teachers are stepping up to the plate. The National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) has led the movement for education reform in mathematics. The
NCTM began in the mid 1970 s and was a public voice of mathematics education that supported

Students need to understand the reasoning behind the way math works, these standards put this into
practice. A second groundbreaking document released by the National Council of Teachers
Mathematics was Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics. This set of standards present[s] a
vision of what teaching should entail to support the changes in curriculum set out in the Curriculum
and Evaluation Standards. This document spells out what teachers need to know to teach toward new
goals for mathematics education and how teaching should be evaluated for the purpose of
improvement (Burris). It was essential for this change because it changed how mathematics was
taught. Teachers now had new goals and had different processes of evaluation, which in the end,
resulted in a greater improvement for themselves, and also great academic achievement for students.
The NCTM followed with the 1995 release of Assessment Standards for Teaching Mathematics.
NCTM produced this important document because new assessment strategies and practices needed to
be developed that will enable teachers and others to assess students performance in a manner that
reflects the NCTM reform vision for school mathematics (Burris). This allowed teachers to give better
assessments to their students, which led to them being able to better asses themselves. It was easier for

Then they point out the lack of description could confuse the readers/ viewers, because they don t
know whether to read the images from left to right or vice versa. This analysis is a strong argument,
because it is very important when doing a photo essay to be concise and clear as possible so that the
readers/ viewers would not be confused as to what the writer is trying to convey or show them. It is
also important to show a chronological order. Another strong argument is when they make note that
Hoffman doesn t explicitly mention about race. However, a photo essay as a mode of Ethnography

around the bodies. Moreover, the comments on the body scar and how to differentiate between the

by an audio interview. It is true just simply gazing at the body, the scar cannot convey the information
to the gazers. Therefore, a communication needs to occur between the gazers and participants to get
the full story of the person. Overall, they seem to pose questions a lot, each time they formulate an
argument. This is remarkable, because it makes their arguments stronger. They also compare between

but Mississippian rocks on southern parts of the plateau include thick limestones (Phalen 1). Both
series are represented in the Johnstown quadrangle. The Pennsylvanian series, however, covers most

Espionage In WW2
Rough Draft
Espionage in World War 2 to Post War was a rampant epidemic that involved high levels of trickery,
psychological tactics, and incognito infiltration; consequently, many different countries were involved
in retrieving various pieces of information that could have been detrimental had the Axis or Allies
retained these blueprints, documents, and possibly voice recordings. In World War 2 every piece of
evidence was needed. The war efforts in various countries were at somewhat of a hault considering
how similar every territories technology was. A new spin on an old tactic was needed to gain upper

Greek Architecture And The Architecture
Ancient Greek architects pushed for the excellence and beauty seen in their works and it has left a
lifetime of legacy behind them. Greek Architecture is one of the earliest forms of architecture and it is
one that has influenced architects for centuries. Ancient Greece was a collection of hundreds of city
states contributed throughout the Mediterranean and Black seas. Greek life was dominated by religion
and politics. The religious temples and political buildings of the time were the biggest and most
beautiful in history. The architecture was produced by Hellenic people on the Greek mainland, the
Peloponnese, Aegean Islands, Anatolia, and Italy. It has flourished since it was produced and has been
influencing other countries for centuries. Ancient Greek architects perfected the use of columns which
was seen on all of their temples and government buildings. These columns came in three particular
orders that were created during different times periods. The three defined orders are the Doric order,
Ionic order, and Corinthian order. These orders serve the basis of Classic architecture. The Doric order
was the earliest order of Greek architecture. This particular order was not overly decorative and served
the sole purpose of being effective and supporting the buildings. In Doric temples, columns have no
base and they look simple but strong. On the top of the columns, there is a capital and a square block
under the architrave. During the Archaic period in Greece, which was from

Why I Am A Liberal Arts Education
A liberal arts education encourages freedom by allowing students to grow individually and
academically. Before I read the summer reading packet, I did not know this. By reading the packet, I
understand what it means to be liberally educated at Loras College. The freedom and growth that I
will experience through the liberal arts at Loras will allow me to become better rounded as an
individual. Because of this, I will have learned how to be a critical thinker and learner, see the whole
picture of why I am learning what I am learning, and connect and use what I have learned to other
aspects of life. I believe that through the liberal arts I will learn how see deeper into what I have
learned, know the true reason of why I am learning what I am learning, expanding my knowledge by
having a well rounded education, and use that in real world situations to better myself and society.
Throughout my educational experience, I have been presented with different educational and social
challenges that I have had to overcome to prepare me for where I am at now at Loras College. My
family has moved to different towns and school districts several times during my 13 years of
education. We moved because of my father s occupations in school administration. By starting as a
teacher then moving up the ranks to being a principal, and eventually becoming a superintendent, my
father has shown me the true meaning of achieving a goal and understanding why my family is where

Exploration of the Political Structure of the Roman Empire
Exploration of the Political Structure of the Roman Empire The public sphere of Rome, which
included religious norms, social settings, as well as some other cultural divides, has been known to
greatly affect the Roman political system throughout, from its inception to its fall. Our world has seen
many great empires and perhaps the most popular one by name is the Roman Empire. A great number
of books have been written on this subject, many movies have been made, and the Roman Empire
remains rich in our minds to this date. The Roman history involves some great moments as it recounts

One of the concepts that arose out of mathematics was economics and the Romans were able to carry
out trade on a better level. This gave a boost to the Roman Empire and the politicians were able to use
mathematics to their advantage. Many of the ideas of economics and politics that the Western world
follows toady have also been derived from Ancient Romans. The Roman s system of the senate is still
employed by many Western countries today. In addition, the Romans were the first ones to introduce
the ideas of interest in business and loans and we all know that the whole economic arena of the world
today works on the principles of interest. Many of the Greek/Roman philosophers, such as Aristotle
and Socrates, also played their role in Roman influence and we see that many Western countries have
their contemporaries who are always building upon the original ideas and concepts. The Roman
influence on art is phenomenal. We find that many of the artists of the Renaissance and the
Enlightenment era used to follow the art techniques of the Romans. Many of the sculptures and murals
painted by Michelangelo (See Illustration 2)[7] are evidence of the fact that he was motivated and
inspired by Roman art. These theories, aspirations, and ideas were passed from the Greeks to the

However, word study and access to Hebrew and Greek are completely new to me. Using the
concordance and Blue Letter Bible to find if the common root words that have been translated are the
same or not was extremely helpful. I previously understood evaluating the surrounding context, but
did not have access or know how to evaluate the keywords in Hebrew or Greek which helps to extend
valuable insight in how the word was used to the original biblical audience. This interpretive
evaluation is clarifying my focus on what theological truths are present, therefore driving properly
aligned application. To take this a step further, I am in prayer now in planning forward how to use this
class learning (observation, literary context, word studies) and teach them to women ministry leaders
at Trinity this coming summer focusing on a section of Scripture. Moreover, I would provide teaching
on the genre and historical background of the Scripture we would be focusing on. And furthermore, I
am praying about providing this learning opportunity for all women at Trinity. Also of great
importance and completely new to me is the 5 Step Interpretive Journey. Specifically, in Step 1
learning to use different interpretive tools to uncover what the text could have meant to the biblical
audience and then carry that into Step 2 in evaluating our cultural differences to that of the biblical
audience. Completing

Optimism And Racism
Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year. This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson
appears to be a charming, quaint sentiment, although a sentiment which is seemingly not applicable to
modern society. However, is it possible that each individual could establish an optimisitc, sanguine
attitude throught all the days of their life? In retrospect, I sincerely believe that this is attainable,
through a conscious, caring attitude to our thoughts.
Genuinely unadulterated optimisim and joy is so recherere in modern society. However, optimisim and
an audcaious thrist for a jovial life is wildly infectious. The significant question still stands. How do
we obtain this unshakeable optimism through the storms of life, through clossal challenges, through
unfair critisim and rejection?
When we see unabashedly optimisic indivudals who rejoice in life and modify the way we look at this
immense, vast, capacious world, we wonder how to procure what they have acquired? We concede.

My First Grade Classroom At Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School
I spent five hours observing a classroom but it felt like spending time in a new world. I observed a
first grade classroom at Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was my
first opportunity to watch and comprehend a classroom environment with a teacher s mindset. It was
an eye opening experience, I was beginning to see the classroom in components: teaching methods,
lesson plans, philosophies, and common core requirements. Listening for how to give directions rather
than follow them is just one example of my changed focus while in the classroom. Due to my
schedule, I observed the first grade class on three separate days during the morning to afternoon part
of the school day. There were roughly fifteen students, a diverse group which included various
ethnicities and personalities. I feel that I was lucky in being assigned this class because it was
extremely dynamic and I got to witness many activities and strategies in a couple hours. Throughout
this observation report I will most likely quote phrases the teacher said as I found them to be key tools
when dealing with a situation. For the purpose of maintaining confidentiality in this report, I will
change the teacher s name to Ms. Mallard and also create names for any students mentioned hereafter.
Firstly, the actual classroom setting was filled with materials and vibrantly colored. One wall was
made up of windows with shelving space all along the lower half. The windows let in wonderful

Augustus Of Primaporta Analysis
Rome was a very large and powerful city by the first BC but the reign of Augustus transformed it into
an imperial city. In 31 BCE, Augustus became the supreme commander of the Roman Republic.
During the Augustan Revolution, art and architecture pushed a political agenda. Art portraying
Augustus remains common throughout his reign. The art and architecture helped reinforce Augustus
political message that he was the restorer of Rome.
An example of Augustus artistic propaganda is the statue Augustus of Primaporta from 20 BCE. The
statue is a depiction of Augustus as commander of the army. Augustus is depicted as very youthful and
perfect. The statue is very idealized but does include some of Augustus true features. He is dressed in
military clothing while standing in a pose as if he is addressing his troops. Augustus is portrayed
barefoot with cupid riding a dolphin at his side which represents his divinity. His armor also endorses
the political agenda that the gods are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

illustrates Augustus military victories and connection to the gods. The statue of Augustus portrayed as
Pontifex Maximus or chief priest from 12 BCE is also a propaganda driven portrait. August is
displayed with his head covered and wearing a robe. He looks to be dressed for a sacrifice. The statue
is still very idealized with Augustus looking strong and youthful but true features still present. The
statue itself displays that Augustus is not only the ruler of Rome but also the religious leader as

Canadian Wine Industry Essay
The Canadian Wine industry is a relatively small player on the worldwide market with a wine export
value of approximately $54 million in 2013, making up just 0.15% of global wine exports. This is
largely due to Canadian grape grower s inability to compete with producers in countries with more
favourable weather conditions for growing grapes. For example, in 2007 Canada used approximately
8,000 hectares of land to grow grapes compared to the EU s 3.5 million hectares, 2.5 million of which
were in France alone. Despite Canada s land size, there are only a few regions where the climate

Economies of scale are critical for low priced wine production, but not essential for premium priced
wine production, making the premium wine product segmentation a well suited niche for Canada s
wine industry. Ice Wine is produced from grapes that were left to freeze on the vine so Canada s
climate is an ideal environment for wine producers to capture the Ice Wine market. Given Canada s
susceptibility to bad weather, favourable conditions for Ice Wine grape production, and high cost/low
production winery economic model, it is no wonder that the wine industry in Canada has grown
steadily around the Ice Wine high end product segmentation international niche market. Canadian
wine exports totaled 42 million litres in 2013, valued at $54 million; of which 2.2 million litres was
premium wine, valued at $36.3 million. Despite an apparent steady growth, the industry is heavily
influenced by weather and Canada s growing season so revenue decline can be seen in years where
vineyards in Canada produced bad harvests due to weather restrictions. For example, in 2003 2005
Canada experienced severe cold weather conditions, particularly in Ontario, and grape availability was
drastically reduced as a result. This had a significant impact on the wine industry in Canada as a whole

Dr. Greg Forbes
Dr. Greg Forbes
What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is
greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary
powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of
people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a
tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes.
Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so
maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded
the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of
tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex
tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field
manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts
and microbursts. Clearly by his involvement in so many research projects, Forbes had an open and

Indonesi The Largest Economy Of South East Asia
Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia; it has progressed into a decentralized electoral
democracy and has managed to reduce its overall poverty from 17 percent in 2004 to 11 percent in
2014. However, despite their steady economy and major improvements, nearly 40 percent of
Indonesia lives just above the poverty line. Additionally, Indonesian public services and health
standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of
maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the
developing or Third World realm. Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural
resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has fundamentally shaped the economic and political
structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its colonial masters have also
played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has
greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as
outsiders entered. The Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took
a slow process of political expansion and centuries later before they would reach the territorial
boundaries of present day Indonesia. During the 18th century the United East India Company
established itself as a major political and economical power on the island of Java. This Dutch trading

Job Shadowing Reflection Paper
On Wednesday, December 23, 2015 I job shadowed Tara Woodhull for the job shadow part of my

When I entered the store, she was creating her batch of frosting for the day. She made her frosting

Alexis De Tocqueville s Democracy In America
Alexis De Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America while visiting the country from France. During
his stay, he observed the government and its strengths and flaws. He recorded his findings and
published them in Democracy in America. His book details many aspects of the American
government, but is most notably known for his opinion on the tyranny of the majority and the
potential despotism that could arise. Tocqueville s concerns for the American government could be
seen as addressed in the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. Tocqueville expresses the fear of a
tyranny of the majority in a democracy. Tocqueville describes the idea of a majority by stating, it is the
very essence of democratic government that the majority has absolute sway, for in a democracy
nothing resists the majority, (Vol. 1, PT 2, Chapter 7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ratification of this amendment applied the Bill of Rights to the states. In doing so, Tocqueville s
concern of a tyranny of the majority at the state level is now combatted. He established his view that
the creation of the United States Constitution involved more intelligence than the development of state
constitutions. He believed that the national constitution discussed factions in a more effective way.
With the enumerated regulations on factions now applying to the states, the possibility of the majority
gaining too much power is now diminishing. The lack of protections within the states is now no more.
The Fourteenth Amendment protects the rights of the people without giving administrative power to
the federal government, but gives more power to the federal government. Though the federal
government is gaining some power, decentralization of the administration persists. This eliminates the
fear that the majority can do away with the minority s rights, as well as have centralized power that
includes legislative and implementation

Characteristics Of Gun Shootings
When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators
and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore,
rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in
handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based
on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can
present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit
characteristics. The muzzle to distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the
shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a crime scene an investigator must gather evidence
at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class characteristics of a
firearm, bullet or shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and
DNA evidence.
Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun
powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate
and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber handgun,
which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. The automatic pistol

From Unilineal Cultural Evolution to Functionalism Several anthropological theories emerged during
the early twentieth century. Arguably, the most important of these was Functionalism. Bronislaw

development of this theory. Malinowski suggested that individuals have certain physiological needs
and that cultures develop to meet those needs. Malinowski saw those needs as being nutrition,

She described cultures as being of four types Apollonian, Dionysian, Paranoid and Meglomaniac.
Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied.
The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret Mead
was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she would eclipse
the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the Pacific Island of
Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this field study, she
produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she investigated the
relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents in Samoa to those
of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of the girls she studied in
Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive atmosphere of Samoan culture
produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own more repressed American culture.
The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more
quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. The
methodology developed by these pioneers is still in use by anthropologists today. That is, participant

Essentially, the main ideology of Shintoism is that nature possesses ethereal qualities; Nature
represents something much bigger than what individuals normally would perceive. Mikage lives with
the Tanabes for a couple of months and she begins feeling more comfortable in her own skin. She is
able to exercise her love of cooking and she is able to mature into a more independent adult. Yuichi
suggests that she should make new address cards. While they are preparing the cards, Mikage notices
how Outside, a warm wind came roaring up, a spring storm (Yoshimoto 28). The wind illustrates
Mikage s continuation to allow people to assist with her life decisions, however, the warm[th] of the
wind suggests that the people in her life, Eriko and Yuichi, are guiding her to the path that Mikage
needs to be on. Yoshimoto writes about the spring storm to metaphorically show that although, storms
often bring destruction and loss, spring is a sign of restoring something completely new (28). Often,
spring represents the renewal and rebirth of nature. Yoshimoto uses the storm to emphasis that, like
storms , people are unpredictable and they are constantly recreating and destroying parts of
themselves. In a way, Mikage is essentially reborn; she is eliminating

Religious Market Hypothesis
In contrast, places such as the United States have been relatively tolerant of other religions while
maintaining a relatively Christian identity. The United States from its birth as the thirteen colonies has
been relatively accepting of other Christian denominations. Norris and Inglehart try to make a similar
point, but they mistakenly claim that the United States was formed as a religious refuge in their
Religious Participation Hypothesis (Norris and Inglehart 2008, 225 226). This was simply not the case
according to history. The United States was formed as a means of profit. The first settlers who came to
the new world were not seeking religious refuge, but rather wanted to start over in terms of religion.
They believed that they were called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is impossible to collect data from the 16th and 17th centuries, but current religious revolutions are
still occurring. Tracking the religiosity of some countries can be difficult due to government
regulations. Syria, for example, would not be an easy place to obtain data concerning religiosity of the
contemporaries. Some places such as Turkmenistan consider data to be government secrets. In places
where government interference causes the inability to collect data, the religious markets hypothesis
becomes relevant. The religious markets hypothesis includes government control of religion. Because
governments would be obstructing access to data on religious affiliations, research can be done to
determine if that country is under a theocracy, dictatorship, or tyrannical regime. If so, it is possible
that the religiosity of that country is being determined by the culture formed by the government itself.
This can be tested by determining the predominant religion of the area. Surveying refugees or
migrants from that country can provide some data, but unfortunately, many contemporaries would
probably not respond truthfully or at all because of the fear of retribution against themselves or family
still within the country of origin. The evaluation of the major religion may have to be determined by
evaluating the political leadership s religion and then tracing that down through the

Descriptive Essay About The Cemetery
The cemetery I chose to visit and explore was the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. On the way to
the cemetery I couldn t help but feel anxious. When I began to drive past the cemetery to its entrance,
all I could see were miles and miles of headstones. It was eerie to say the least. As a kid, whenever my
family would drive by a cemetery, my siblings and I would hold our breath until we passed so as to
not breathe in the wandering, lost souls. Actually going into a cemetery to look around seemed
counterintuitive, I wasn t sure if I would be able to hold my breath for that long. It didn t help that
right when I entered those black gates that separated the living from the dead, clouds of smoke and ash
permeated the air around me due to bodies being cremated on site. ... Show more content on

The fear I held as a child that my body would become a vessel for other souls to enter was intensified.
This was my first impression of my first time in a cemetery and I was not off to a good start. As I
grabbed a map to find my way around, I began to dread the walk through the cemetery and having to
see all the lives lost, especially those who lost their lives before they even really began. However, to
my surprise, as I made my way through the graveyard this feeling of sadness slipped away. The sun
began to shine through the clouds of gray and illuminated both the cemetery and my mood. I was
delighted to notice that many of the tombstones I encountered read that these lives that were lost were
not taken too soon. Most of the people had lived over eighty years and were buried next to fellow
family members who also lived just as long. It was nice to see that many people were laid to rest next
to family so they wouldn t have to enter the next life

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Analysis
In Gina Wisker s article Vampires and School Girls: High School Jinks on the Hellmouth , she makes
the point that Buffy is a new kind of women within vampire fictions. She supports this point by
showing how Buffy is not a stereotypical helpless woman in a vampire film; Buffy is a strong
independent woman who kills vampires and other creatures. While Wisker makes a very strong
argument, this idea of a new kind of women could be extended to Willow and a new kind of men
shown in Xander and Giles.
In the first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer , the viewer sees Willow as a stereotypical woman in
monster films. She was kidnapped and did not know how to defend herself, but throughout the rest of
the show Willow develops as a strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated earlier, men are normally the hero s but Xander represents a new kind of man. The dynamic
of the man being the hero is flipped once again; Xander is a man that acts as a side kick to the main
hero, who is a female. Xander tries his best to help Buffy throughout the film but he since he does not
have any supernatural powers, like Buffy and Willow, there is not much he can do. Even though he
does not have powers, this does not mean that he is weak. The most important part about Xander is
that he sees beyond the supernatural and stays strong and supportive throughout the series. Xander
keeps his hopes in the hardest situation and keeps the group tougher and positive. He will even
sacrifice himself in order to keep the people he loves safe. He continuously fixes things for the group,
and later on he goes on to cotinine his education and get a job as a carpenter. Xander represents a kind
of man that may not take all the spot light but is still strong, level headed and the heart of the group.
Possibly the best thing about Xander is that fact that he is normal. By just staying true who he is he
helps his friends and saves the world, more than once.
Another kind of man in Buffy the Vampire Slayer , is portrayed by Giles. Giles is a watcher assigned
to watch and teach Buffy how to become a slayer. He helps to teach Buffy and get her ready for the
battles

MARTIN SCORSESE A Comparative Analysis Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed Martin Charles
Scorsese was born November 17, 1942. Suffering from asthma, he spent most of his time watching

influenced generations of filmmakers. He is an American director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and
film historian, whose career spans more than 53 years. Scorsese s body of work addresses such themes
as Sicilian American identity, Roman Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption, machismo, modern
crime, and gang conflict. Many of his films are also notable for their depiction of violence and liberal
use of profanity. Part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking, he is widely regarded as one of the

Makeup Industry Analysis Paper
For the black woman struggling to find the right shade of makeup have no fear! It has always been
very difficult to find shades of foundation that represent the numerous numbers of shades the melanin
filled woman, or man, comes in. The beauty industry is now expanding! Each of these products has
been evaluated first hand by friends, family, top beauty gurus, and me. I will evaluate the price,
product coverage, and color spectrum of each product. The price determines affordability and product
quality. Product coverage tells how much surface area the makeup will cover and how much product is
used to achieve that coverage. The final and perhaps most important quality of a foundation brand is
the color spectrum available. If a brand only limits itself to the skin tones of a light skin African
American or even a tanned Caucasian then that brand is not considered POC, People of Color,
friendly. Product range matters, especially when trying to reach a large audience. Starting with Kat
Von D s Lock it Foundation, this foundation is for those who are trying to look their absolute best 24

used is very small. The consumer can choose to add more layers of foundation if desired, but this
product will last at least a year after purchase. With its 24 hour claim the consumer never has to worry
about reapplying their makeup or worrying about patchy

Globalisation In Australia Essay
Globalisation is the process of integration and sharing of goods, capital, labour, services, knowledge,
leisure, sport, ideas, and culture between countries. Globalisation is making a positive contribution to
the world in many ways, such as, increased competition, stabilised security, and more wealth and
economy throughout the world. Globalisation has increased the competition between many retail
stores. When there are multiple producers trying to gain hold of the economy, generally the quality of
goods and services rise as a result. With globalisation, more businesses are starting to cross
international borders introducing a higher standard into the global marketplace, by doing this,
consumers have greater options to choose from. Whilst more companies and businesses come into
Australia it creates more competitors and wider choices to consumers, meaning each company has to
continuously improve their goods or services to create more value for their customers. This also
allows consumers to purchase better products for lower prices. For example, Coles and ... Show more

When our economy relies, and depends mostly on another country s economy, it is very difficult to

fact is that globalisation has cooled and reduced the amount of conflicts that could have turned bad if
the country s financial health didn t rely on the other. In a way, globalisation has helped increase world
security. If China didn t rely on Australia for iron ore, there is a possibility that the two countries could
have extreme conflict, but since they rely on each other for materials, the two countries won t get
involved in conflict as it would affect the countries ability to produce products. Globalisation has

Economic Policy
The new economic policy of the united states should include cutting taxes, reducing governmental
waste, and balance the budget by having a smaller more efficient federal government. It should
include equal opportunity for financial security but not through a government sponsored redistribution
of wealth program.
Cutting taxes across the board including income tax rates, capital gains and estate taxes among others
should provide a growth spurt for the economy. Allowing people and businesses to keep more of their

There are several ways in which the government can cut taxes while maintaining worthwhile
government subsidized programs, which will be discussed in this paper.
To have funded tax cuts the government will have to cut spending by eliminating waste and by
reforming while preserving needed entitlement programs such as Welfare, Social Security and
Medicare though slowing the rate of growth in spending on them. As quoted in a Business Week
editorial quot;Cutting the growth in Medicare spending by $150 billion would help open the way for a
truly balanced budget, lower interest rates and higher economic growth quot; (A Vote for a
Sensible Center 194).
To eliminate waste the government will have to cut programs that are no longer needed and programs
that overlap each other. quot; The federal government today has 163 separate job training programs, 26
food programs and 180 educational programs. The government needs to eliminate some, consolidate
some and change others quot; (The Balance Sheet). The government can also cut waste by cutting the
amount of money that some of the governmental agencies receive for example the quot;Republicans
want to cut funding for the Commerce Department and the department of Urban Development budget

  • 3. Key Life Events In James 4:14 (NIV) God says What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and vanishes . Even as a 28 year old I can see the reality of these words. My life is short, and it is important to make the years I have on earth count. In order to make sure I am spending my time on earth wisely, it can be beneficial to reflect on past events from my life. In this essay I will discuss some positive events from my timeline, key transitions that changed my life in a positive way, negative events in my life, and key transitions that changed my life in a negative way, and finally I will discuss what I discovered about myself through this mapping exercise. In addition I will also explain how I feel, and give a short summary of my life. The most positive events in my life line map include my time during the period of going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discussing this subject is like peeling back old wounds. They may be healed, but they will always be there. It is not something that can be undone, but I can use this event as an opportunity to learn, grow and motivation to change for the future. After rehashing this subject, it is extra motivation for me to stay committed in my own marriage, and do whatever is necessary to make my marriage strong. I also discovered how much a perspective can change with enough time. Like I mentioned previously moving out of my mom s place did not seem like a positive event at the time, but looking back I realize just what a pivotal step that was. I would have never received the blessings and the good that came out of that negative situation. I also realized that my timeline is continual and that there will be future events on my timeline which seem negative at the time. It might take some time and patience to see the good that God can make out of a tough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Test Of Patients Admitted At The Massachusetts General... 2. a) The study used a consecutive non randomized, non probability sampling method. The study selected records of patients admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) between September 1997 and August 2008 in a consecutive manner until a specific number was obtained. In this study, the number was 297. The study excluded 62 records that did not fit the sampling requirements. The final sample was n = 235 (Salinas et al., 2012). When using consecutive sampling techniques, the researcher includes all patients who agree to participate, provided that they meet specific pre established criteria. The researcher will stop the selection process when the desired sample is achieved. This sampling technique is similar to the convenience sampling technique except, that it aims to represent the whole cohort of the population (Fain, 2013). It is considered the most reliable non probability sampling technique. This sampling method is more credible and possesses a higher validity level than any other non probability sampling method. It also decreases the possibility of researcher s bias. However, this sampling technique faces the same issue of all the non probability sampling techniques as the possibility of bias is always present (Fain, 2013). Another drawback of the consecutive sampling technique lies within the possibility that the response rate and the type of individuals responding may influence the findings. The responding individuals may have life circumstances or personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Negative Effects Of Binge Drinking In College Binge drinking in college can negatively impact your college experience by increasing the possibility of physical and sexual assault, injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and academic problems. Social influence has a major impact on the amount of alcohol college students consume. In particular, this paper will discuss how direct offers, perceived descriptive norms, injunctive norms, and exposure to alcohol content on social media networks increase the amount of alcohol college students consume. Direct offers can range anywhere from a simple gesture to persistent encouragement from others. Meisel and Alfai s research sample consisted of 156 college students who have consumed alcohol in the last 30 days. There were 99 females and 57 males between the ages of 18 and 24. The study s participants included Asians, Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, African Americans, and Caucasians, who were the majority of the participants. First, the participants were asked to list 10 goals to focus on over the next couple of months. Then they were asked to rate their top five goals on a scale of 0 10 based on importance. After rating their goals they were asked: How many times they have been offered a drink in the past year? Finally, the students had to fill out the Daily Drinking Questionnaire which was used to assess the quantity of alcohol consumed in the past month and the frequency of heavy drinking episodes (4 drinks per occasion for females and 5 drinks per occasion for males) (Meisel Alfai, 2015). The study s results discovered that direct offers have less of an influence on students with higher levels of goal meaning. Even though the students with higher levels of goal meaning are less likely to be influenced, direct offers are still shown to have a major impact on increased college drinking. In relation to college drinking, perceived descriptive norms refer to the perception of how much or how frequently others drink (Rinker Neighbors, 2013). Rinker and Neighbors research participants consisted of 1095 culturally diverse college students including, Caucasians, Asians, African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans. There were also slightly more female than male participants and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. My Mother As A Hero Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a lovely image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to touch her child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but, furthermore, I admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and me. Although my mother did not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening to her stories about Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that fearless fighter who protected me and guided me through hardships. Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep for weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of light. Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night shifts she would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the sun to rise, and for my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have been the ones to teach me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or to at least act brave. Not having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize that I cannot depend on anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own fear. A second groundbreaking document released by the National Council of Teachers Mathematics was Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics. This set of standards present[s] a vision of what teaching should entail to support the changes in curriculum set out in the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards. This document spells out what teachers need to know to teach toward new goals for mathematics education and how teaching should be evaluated for the purpose of improvement (Burris). It was essential for this change because it changed how mathematics was taught. Teachers now had new goals and had different processes of evaluation, which in the end, resulted in a greater improvement for themselves, and also great academic achievement for students. The NCTM followed with the 1995 release of Assessment Standards for Teaching Mathematics. NCTM produced this important document because new assessment strategies and practices needed to be developed that will enable teachers and others to assess students performance in a manner that reflects the NCTM reform vision for school mathematics (Burris). Ancient Greek architects perfected the use of columns which was seen on all of their temples and government buildings. These columns came in three particular orders that were created during different times periods. The three defined orders are the Doric order, Ionic order, and Corinthian order. Additionally, Indonesian public services and health standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the developing or Third World realm. Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has fundamentally shaped the economic and political structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its colonial masters have also played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as outsiders entered. The Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took a slow process of political expansion and centuries later before they would reach the territorial boundaries of present day Indonesia. During the 18th century the United East India Company established itself as a major political and economical power on the island of Java. This Dutch trading company ... The SuperOne work area I visited was bigger and had a lot more equipment. Also, there were other people available in the place to help. Tara had no assistant and did all of her decorating herself. When I entered the store, she was creating her batch of frosting for the day. She made her frosting with marshmallow fluff instead of Crisco (which was how I was taught to make frosting). Tocqueville s concerns for the American government could be seen as addressed in the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. Tocqueville expresses the fear of a tyranny of the majority in a democracy. He believed that the national constitution discussed factions in a more effective way. With the enumerated regulations on factions now applying to the states, the possibility of the majority gaining too much power is now diminishing. The lack of protections within the states is now no more. • 39. Characteristics Of Gun Shootings When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore, rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit characteristics. The muzzle to distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a crime scene an investigator must gather evidence at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class characteristics of a firearm, bullet or shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and DNA evidence. Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate and often failed. Margaret Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own more repressed American culture. The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century.
