Zapit Components
As stated in the syllabus for EMG4005 Business Research Skills and Application, the objective of the
Week 7 assignment is to write meaningful paragraphs describing the industry and the target market
which would provide readers to assess the feasibility of the proposed business. Only two out of the

My Love Of My Life
I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my voice for
the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is James Brown!
He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes always sparkled, and
his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo. Finally, I have a chance to
work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I went to the music department at
my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room the people inside were staring at me,
baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks. Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest
chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned under my weight. The people looked at empty
spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally, James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During
break time I rushed to the bathroom. When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we
do with her? We can t put her on stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in
the backstage to sing and have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this,
suggested another. But who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I
understood, they couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. There were hardly any clothes
that fit me, my eyes were small, my thick dry lips had skin peeling off,

The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay
The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long
been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation
steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people.
The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom
and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children
in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by
indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African
descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a
continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia.
From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial
society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed
laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven
years, each servant was then entitled to freedom and the opportunity to work in the colony to best
achieve individual benefits and the success offered by the New World. The early generations of these
servants turned freemen posed little problem to their former masters as they constituted to small a
segment of the population to

The Demand For Iphone Despite Competition From Samsung And...
The purpose of this paper is to show continued interest in the Apple iPhone despite competition from
Samsung and other competitors. The demand for iPhone 6s was record breaking according to Apple
(Apple. 2015).
Sales of the most recent iPhone 6s continue, but in certain situations have not been meeting financial
market expert projections. Investment firm Morgan Stanley implied the decline in sales were due to
higher prices in foreign markets due to fluctuations in currency values (CNET, 2016).
Trends from the past ten years have shown steadily declining sales for clothing. Teenagers are not as
fixated on fashion in previous years; instead, they want to spend their money on electronics and other
services (Lutz, 2015). My research will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In early 2003, the dominant smartphone provider, Blackberry, was focused mostly on business with its
convergent device that included email, web browsing and text messaging (Zeigler, C. 2009). It later
gained mass market adoption but to note, there were minimal competitors in the market at that time.
The Apple iPhone released in 2007, was the first to feature an entirely functional web browser, Safari
(also is on Mac OS X) and interaction without a physical keyboard. Instead, the iPhone made use of a
muti touch capacitive touchscreen, to generate an on screen keyboard. Since its release, the iPhone s
sales have increased year over year since its initial launch in 2007 (Statistic. (n.d.). Retrieved February

skyrocketed.
As stated in its PR releases, Apple s goal is to define the future of mobile devices and related services

Mohawk Indian Tribe Who were the Mohawk Indian tribe? They were members if the Iroquois
Confederacy . They originated in present day New York. The name Mohawk means man eaters but
there is no proof that the tribe were cannibals. The early Dutch and English settlers used the word
Mohawk to describe most of the New England tribes. Some people in the Mohawk tribe referred
themselves as Kanienkhaka, which means people of the people of flint . The Mohawks lived in the
great lakes and parts of what is now Canada and the state of New York. They were known as the

Kellogg s Failure Essay
Introduction
This project report talks about the reasons for the failure of Kellogg s in India and what strategies it
can take up in future to build itself as a brand in India.
Kellogg s created a new category of branded breakfast cereal products throughout the world. Over the
longer period of time, it has successfully been able to change eating habits of consumers and has
converted various nations as corn flakes eating nations. After capturing over 40% US s ready to eat
market in breakfast cereals alone, Kelloggs introduced its flagship products into Indian markets in
1994. India at that time has over 950 million inhabitants, 250 of whom were middle class.
The Indians found the notion of having cereal as a breakfast a new one as consumers ... Show more

Premium pricing policy
The competitive brands in the market were selling the similar product at 1/3rd price of Kellogg s and
hence Kellogg failed to attract price conscious Indian households. Even after losing its market share,
Kellogg s failed to understand the nuance of Indian market.
4. Wrong promotion
Kellogg in its initial advertisements questioned the nutrition quotient of Indian breakfast and
suggested that Indian food was not very good for health. This deeply offended the emotions of Indian
ladies who had been serving traditional breakfast for ages to their families.
5. Inadequate market research
Kellogg s executives overestimated the target segment of Indian market. They came with the figure of
950 million people as if everyone eats breakfast in Indian, everyone who eats breakfast would
potentially want to eat corn flakes. What Kellogg didn t know, as Homi Bhabha, director of Harvard s
Faculty of Arts and Sciences Humanities center stated at the time, was that Indians, rather like the
Chinese, think that to start the day with something cold, like cold milk on your cereal, is a shock to the
system. You start it with warm milk. Thus kellogg failed to provide the product that catered to Indian

Leadership And Hofstede s Five Dimensions
Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions

December 7, 2014 Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions In my experience, working in a team
environment not only means working together collaboratively, but also means being sensitive to
cultural differences and outlooks within the team. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist,
devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s Cultural
Dimensions, n.d.). This essay will discuss these five dimensions and how they relate to leadership, as
well as presenting arguments on which combination of these dimensions makes the most ... Show

(Geert Hofstede, n.d.). A high score in this dimension represents a society that accepts an unequal
distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more
readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.).
Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their leadership
structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social status of the leader is
very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Low Power
Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of power, and in turn employees will
not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but how accessible that leader is for
collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010).
Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and
represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert Hofstede,
n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal connection with
each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends. (Geert Hofstede, n.d.).
The positive from an individualist mindset is the self reliance and enjoyment of individual challenges
that can contribute positively to the whole (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures

veteran s office is very blunt and upfront. The male in the office especially are blunt and do not care

differences came in the proportion of talk on stereotypically gendered topics. Women reported
discussing personal problems, doubts, and fears, family problems, and intimate relationships more
than men, while men reported discussing sports more than women. 1 The males and females differed
in speech acts as most of the men talked about sports while most of the women talked about their

Effects Of Collagen Supplement
Collagen Supplement Side Effects With all the talk about how collagen will keep you young or reduce
joint pain, one has to wonder if collagen supplements safe? Is It Safe? It is very rare that anyone has a
reaction to collagen unless the individual has a food allergy that the collagen is synthesized from.
Collagen can be made from cow, pork, fish, shellfish or chicken. If you are allergic to any of these
protein sources, do not take the supplement. It is not worth risking an allergic reaction that can result
in anything from hives to breathing difficulties or anaphylactic shock when there are other products

Timeless Beowulf, Tireless Executives
Timeless Beowulf, Tireless Executives The literary masterpiece Beowulf compiles the life of Beowulf
as living the supreme military life. The concepts and themes of the story are considered timeless
because comparisons can be drawn from Beowulf s life to the lives of the people of today. Consider
the fact that Beowulf lives a detached life, which validates him being a wise and strong leader. This
also leaves him a man who must face his death grasping the fact that he has foolishly abstained from
having a devoted relationship with another person. In his tenacious quest for fame and glory, Beowulf
is evocative of concurrent young executives in that they classify their profession above all other facets

After the ban of Tobacco in 1644 by the last Ming emperor Huaizhun the already addicted Chinese
people had to find something new to smoke and as opium was already smoked mixed together with
tobacco before the ban, many of the smokers changed to opium smoking itself or also Arsenic, that is
also a drug.
So as the Opium smoking was already widely spread across China, it was already slowly destroying
the health and the cohesion of the nation, but it was still a problem only within China.
Even though Chinese European trade already existed in the seventeenth century a law for the trade

The complain made the Emperor angry as the English man broke several regulations within the
command structure and this lead to decreasing the Chinese European to only Canton.
The Canton System was basically about that the European merchants had to stay in Canton, that they
had to bargain with Chinese intermediaries and that their only payment are in silver bullion. The
outcome of the system was a negative trade balance for the European countries that traded with China
and also a huge silver loss for them, what in the end was also the reason for the East India Company to
start the trading of opium in China to compensate their loss.
When the trade monopoly of the East India Company started to end in 1834 and the United Kingdom
declared that they want a free trade in China, the Chinese authority ignored their wish to close the
Canton System.
So the East India Company had to illegally sell their Opium in China, illegally in the way that they
violated the Canton System as they did not only stay in Canton and also since they lost their trade
monopoly their selling of Opium lead to much more selling of Opium by various merchants, what in
the end lead to an overflowing amount of illegal Opium in

There are themes about destiny, free will, and the universal theme of good versus evil.
While the plot tries to tell a compelling tale with many intriguing ideas, unfortunately, the

The Value Of Life
What is it about human life that makes it valuable? Some people believe that life is valuable even
before birth. Before we are given a name or our gender has been identified, we are valued. As
children, we are taught that we are valuable and that life is valuable. However, what makes human life
valuable? The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two people; a
fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief about the value
of life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our mistakes to our
strengths, we are all valuable.
Roger Ebert was a popular film critic who tragically died from thyroid cancer in 2013. Before he

sometime in 2006, Ebert took his last bite and sip, and he spoke his last word (Jones 50). Ebert learned

The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was
considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation
in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers
and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life.
As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then
pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting
material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself.
Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato,
Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all
philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett)
After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles,
known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the
cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens
attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual
high point in Greek history. (Barrett)
Pericles was an incredibly influential statesman that ushered in

I will use is within the subfield of the cultural studies approach, known as visual culture. This
approach is focused on art history/the fine arts approach meaning that it is influenced by art history
and focuses on the visual art. Visual culture is the aspect of culture that is expressed in visual images.
The rose window expresses visual culture through the fleur de lis symbols painted on the window.
When you translate fleur de lis to English, it means, flower of the lily . The fleur de lis has many
different meanings but traditionally it has been used to represent French royalty as well as
representing perfection and life (The Fleur De Lis). This can be related to the stained glass window
since the fleur de lis symbols are painted on the top half of the window along with the scene of the
birth of baby Jesus. The visual culture approach not only focuses on art history and visual art, but four
ways in which images participate in religious practices. These four ways include communication,
communion, commemoration, and imagination. The main way that sticks out to me most is the
commemoration category. This category focuses on images that remember important people, places,
and ideas that are being celebrated and remembered. There are a few important people who are being
expressed in this window such as Mary, baby Jesus, and

Analysis Of The Movie The Snow Queen
My daughter and I went to the play The Snow Queen at the Marquis Theater in Northville, Michigan
on December 10, 2016. The Marquis Theater is a beautifully restored historic landmark. Upon
entering, you are transported back to an earlier time. The lobby features the original french doors, the
stained glass windows, and the old fashioned ticket booth. The theatre is a victorian design that has
two aisle ways with red upholstered seats on the left, right, and middle. The theater is quaint in size
but that only adds to the magical allusion that is created when you watch The Snow Queen.
The Snow Queen is produced by Chrisina Zayti who also is the technical director for the play. She is
an Eastern Michigan Alumni and has been at the Marquis Theatre for quite some time. Yasmine Jaffri
is the director and writer and works with Elaine Liverance who is the musical director, accompanist,
and composer for the show. The Snow Queen has five main characters and many supporting character
that are mostly children. The character of Snow Queen, the antagonist, was acted by Esther Jentzen
another Eastern alumni who was making her debut on the Marquis Theatre s stage. Gina Karkoski
plays Bebe the protagonist in the story and best friends to Louie, who is played by Emilee
Theofanopoulos. The last main character is Rizzle played by Joshua Garreston is a reindeer that helps
Bebe on her quest to find Louie. There are three casts that perform in the play; we saw cast A.

SARAH VOWELL
In these two stories, both authors depict the condition of his/her parent/child relationship in spatial
terms and their perception of gradual changes by expressing the hardship of understanding affection
from each of their father during their childhood. Although these two are connected, each author has
different conditions in terms of relationship with their own father and ways of describing to depict
their stories. After analyzing each story, I believe that Brad Manning s Arm Wrestling with My Father
wins over Sarah Vowell s Shooting Dad in terms of sharing with the readers about his relationship
with his father more vividly. Brad Manning s Arm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She shares her thoughts of seeing the gun as a killing machine, while her father sees them as her
favorite tool. This proves that Vowell had always been tough minded the moment she had her hands
down and decided that guns were not for her. Where else, her twin sister, Amy, shares her father s
enthusiasm for firearms, making her feel sort of like and outcast in the family. Later in the story,
Vowell realizes that they do share some similarities, although both of them have totally different
passions. This was shown by her during the event of accompanying her dad to shoot off his dad s
cannon at Montana. She later finds out that she ...was no longer his adversary (SV 139) and stated that
she ...was his accomplice (SV 139). She depicts the irony of the whole situation by admitting to
readers that she was indeed, liking it. ... what s worse, I was liking it. (SV 139). She also compares the
loud sound of the gun when she was little to the sound of her dad s cannon and finds herself finally
embracing her dad s passion instead of rejecting it like before. When her dad dies, Sarah vows that she
is willing to embrace her dad s death by shooting his ashes off from his cannon during the start of
Hunting Season. In the story, Sarah proves to maintain her independence, personality and

The Fault In Our Stars Character Analysis
The Fault in Our Stars depicts Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16 year old girl diagnosed with terminal
thyroid cancer. The book chronicles her relationship with Augustus Waters, who has also been
diagnosed with cancer. Throughout the novel, Hazel constantly struggles with her identity in relation
to her disease. She is conflicted whether to accept the prescribed image society has of her or to
embrace her true inner self. Through a period of self realization, she eventually comes to terms with
and redefines her identity. Although society may define an individual s self image, The Fault in Our
Stars demonstrates that identity is defined by the inner self, rather than external forces; in turn, that
self perception deeply impacts one s perspective on life.
Despite the adversity they face, the characters in The Fault in Our Stars identity lies within their inner
selves, and is not defined by societal expectations. Hazel expresses her frustration with the lesser
standard that is expected of cancer patients, saying According to Maslow, I was...unable to feel secure
in my health and therefore unable to reach for love and respect and art...which is utter horseshit: The
urge to make art or contemplate philosophy does not go away when you are sick (Green 213).
According to society, cancer patients, and those who are not secure in their health are restricted from
experiencing life at its fullest. The outside world sees Hazel in singular terms, as a cancer kid , unable
to reach for greatness;

Differences Between Theatre And Movie
In today s busy world, people usually struggle to find time for fun and a way of relaxation but when it
happens, they often spend it on entertainment. One of those forms of entertainment is watching stage
or film productions. Theatre and film have lots of aspects in common and depend on each other,
however, they involve differences. People choose between theater and film based on factors and their
own preferences. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast between those two forms of art.
First of all, theater as well, as the film is the form of entertainment. Theater was one of the first forms
of arts that made people feel emotion: sadness, laughter, thoughtfulness while being entertained. By
watching actors perform on the stage the viewers live and feel every moment and emotion. The
amusement that comes with life performance is extremely inspiring and motivating. The point of
entertainment is to capture the attention of the audience and that s what ... Show more content on

One of which is the type of performance. Theater is known for performances that are unedited and
raw, therefore actors have to rehearse the script frequent numbers of times in order to avoid bloopers.
During play the most focus is on actors and acting, rather than visuals; the stage cannot be edited or
enhanced. In stage acting, actors have to deal with a lot of stress they have to be stage ready no matter
what. Actors have to have oratory skill as well since they have to perform in front of the crowd.
However, when it comes to creating movies actors are allowed to have bloopers, since it is possible to
edit it out. Actors do not have to rehearse the script as many as theater actors do. Actors of film are
performing in front of the camera, not the live audience. Filmmaking is focused a lot on the visually in
order to make it look more attention capturing. Movies are enhanced visually and can have special

Political Identities in Malaysia since Its Independence in...
Q: Since gaining independence in 1957, which social cleavages have been important in shaping the
identities of political parties in Malaysia?
As is the case for many (relatively) new democracies, Malaysia s electoral backdrop has been
influenced by competing social cleavages since gaining its independence in 1957. But which social
cleavages have been important in shaping the identities of political parties in Malaysia? This essay
highlights which social cleavages have played an instrumental part in maintaining the identities of
each of the major parties within Malaysia, and which cleavage dimension has been politicised to
create the strongest electoral division. It will first assess to what extent social cleavages in Malaysia
have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The resulting cleavage structure is the product of complex relations of crosscutting and reinforcing
cleavages largely defining the setup of a party system which outlines political platforms, individual
party behaviour, and the potential for coalition forming.
To assess which cleavage structures have typically divided voters within a given party system, the
party system must have been frozen whereby the party system has effectively politicised a certain
issue dimension where political parties emerge from and have maintained their relevance in the system
due to the salience of such issues. For many Western democracies, Lipset and Rokkan assessed that
two revolutions have been responsible for structuring certain cleavages in party systems: the national
revolution was responsible for politicising the differences of the centre/periphery and the
religious/secular while the industrial revolution characterised the urban/rural and capital/labour
divides.
However, Malaysia is a relatively new democracy. There has never been a national revolution which
divided the centre/periphery and the religious/secular, nor was it the case of urban/rural and
capital/labour divides of the industrial revolution at least not to the point of freezing the party system.
So how can we apply the model put forth by Lipset and Rokkan to account for the politicisation of
social cleavages in Malaysia? Ufen writes that the structures of party systems mirror real social

Essay On Social Commentary In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Suffering amongst societies classes: Social commentary in The Time Machine
Would one travel into the future if one could? H.G. Wells is the author of the science fiction novel The

millions of peoples point of view. This was H.G. Wells first novel and is follows societies classes

Wells uses symbolism to show the importance of the Morlocks and Elois.
The Elois represent the richer class. He made the Elois appear fragile, as do the wealthy. He says, The
upper world class ...the favored aristocracy (Wells 61). During the industrial revolution the wealthy
did not work but stayed wealthy. Another symbol is the Morlocks, he says Morlocks their mechanical
servants (Wells 67). The lower class is represented by Morlocks. The factory workers were merely
peasants. Their unattractiveness showed their poorness. The poor worked for the rich, making their
luxuries.
H.G. Wells uses imagery to show the difference in class amongst the Morlocks and Elois. He
describes, a queer ape like figure, its head held down in a peculiar manner... (Wells 53). The Morlocks
are very unappealing because of their horrid visual appearance. They do not look remotely similar to
the human man. The Morlocks are the lower class habitats and this shows they did not have the luxury
of looking good. Wells uses terms such as human rats and human spiders . Since the Morlocks
consume the Elois, Wells thinks of them more as animals instead of humans. On the contrary, the Elois
are the opposite. Wells says, The mouths were small, with bright red, rather thin lips, the eyes were
large and mild. (Wells 27). The Elois look much more appealing and human like. Wells describe them
wearing robes and sandals. Not only do they look different they also remind the time traveler of
children. The Eloi

Civil Courts Vs Syariah Court Case Analysis
The issue of jurisdictional conflict between the civil courts and the Syariah courts has been standing
unresolved for so many years. Notwithstanding the amendment made to Article 121(1A) of the
Federal Constitution in 1988, the battle between the two courts remains unsettled. The root cause of
this issue is the existence of a grey area between Article 121 (1) and Article 121(1A) of the Federal
Constitution after the 1988 amendment. Undoubtedly, the aim of the amendment which created Article
121(1A) was in many ways to avoid in the future for any conflict between the decisions of the civil
courts and the Syariah courts. However, it turns to have caused even more uncertainty, conflict and
confusion in our legal system than ever was the case.

The Appeal Of Pathos In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
The best novels are the ones that connects with the reader and just toys with their emotions, as if they
too were also in the story by using pathos, the most powerful appeal. This holds true with Truman
Capote s, In Cold Blood and his writing appealing to the reader s emotions in the portrayal of Perry
Edward Smith and Richard Dick Eugene Hickock, the two murders with an addition of Capote
showing a great deal of favoritism to Perry over Dick. Throughout the novel, Capote uses tone and
diction to allure the reader into the novel s world and into every character s life, just as if we knew
their whole backstory. We see two heartless, cold blooded killers that slain the innocent family of the
Clutters with the intent to leave no witnesses and to rob them of their hard earned money but Capote
deceives the reader s emotions throughout the entirety of the book to humanize straight killers and
make them likable. We often see a murderer as a psychopath without any emotion but it is hard to
label Smith and Hickock one because Capote brings the reader into their lives in a way that we would
feel sorry and have pity for them. Capote makes the reader relate to Smith and Hickock by describing
their families and showing insight into the killers dreams and aspirations so we could perceive them as
people and forget that they ended the future of the Clutters. Perry was a lonely child growing up and
had a drunkard mother that forced him into foster care where he was abused and bullied

Us soldiers were never given the length in time we were going to be at this camp. Our time here was
spent building parts of wooden castles that we were to take with us to the battle field. The smell of
freshly cut wood once again made me and the other soldiers anxious to go into battle. While building
and preparing ourselves for battle, some of us soldiers spoke of the land that Duke William had
promised us when we conquered England. At one point it felt like I was never going to receive that
land as for the days kept going by and no news of moving out had been spoken of. As the days went
on, I noticed they started to become cooler. Finally late September, Duke Williams received the news
that Harald Hardrada and Tostig launched their invasion of Northumbria. Our day to invasion of the

Introductory Psychology Writing Assignment
Praise
Praising a child is what adults do en route for reinforcing a behavior the adult wants that child to
continue doing. Operant conditioning is when one behaves a certain way and then is reinforced or
punished for their actions. Praise is a form of positive reinforcement, when introducing an incentive
that will likely increase or maintain a desired result. People are split as to whether or not praise is
helpful to a child s development. Some believe Praise inhibits motive and increases the child s
uncertainty in their own abilities. On the other hand, there are people who believe praise is a useful
tool for adults to teach children how to behave in modern society.
Alfie Kohn wrote an article titled Five Reasons to Stop Saying Good Job. In this article he states his
beliefs about praise and how it is not a beneficial tool. Kohn feels that praise is in fact hurting today s
children. He explains his five reasons on why praise should not be used(Kohn, 2001).
Kohn s first reason is that praise is used to manipulate the children. Kohn says that praise is sugar
coated control (Kohn, 110, 2001) adults use to pressure their child into good behavior. Kohn s second
reason is that praising children creates praise junkies (Kohn, 111, 2001). He believes that the child will
no longer perform an activity for the proper reasons, instead of doing a difficult task to be able to say
that they could their motives altered to only desire the

The ABC method means that all the individual activities part of a process can be accurately cost. This
is what Super Bakery needs to set the value of the company based on the activities of individual assets
(management, staff, manufacturing and warehouse). The activity based cost system allows the
company to identify where high (and low) costs are being incurred and the cause. How can a company
survive with a 20% growth rate in twenty year duration? The desire to change was required and ABC
is the best cost system for Super Bakery. The ABC method helps with future product planning and the
cost of all activities associated with a product or service can be accurately determined before it is

The objective was to move from the concept of job cost system that the company mimicked. The
notion of job order is a disadvantage to Super Bakery. The order cost of its customers was at a fixed
cost. The problem exist as the orders with high margins subsidized low margins. Profit margins are not
recognized by the cash flow produced by order. A process cost system could be used by the company
but will impose disadvantages. Process costing advantages include the ability for companies to create

Design Patterns
Literature Review
Chapter One
Introduction
What is a Design Pattern?
A design pattern solves a problem within a given context. The solution that is offered by implementing
a pattern results in a system design structure, which balances the concerns of the design problem in a
manner most appropriate for the given context. In Understanding and Using Patterns in Software
Development , Dirk Riehle and Heinz Zullighaven offer a rather nice definition of what a design
pattern is:
A pattern is the abstraction from a concrete form which keeps recurring in specific non arbitrary
contexts.
The ability to write good patterns is very difficult. A pattern should not only convey the facts about a
system, but it should also tell a story about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The patterns described in the GoF book are illustrated in C++; a programming language that has been
declining in use over the last number of years, which limits the learning of patterns in today s
development environment where the dominant programming language taught and used, as far as
patterns are concerned is Java, although patterns can be implemented in any object orientated
programming language.
The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack a
comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use of the pattern in
question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in isolation to each other which hinders
the illustration of pattern interaction and thus the full benefit to those wishing to learn how to
implement design patterns.
Allen Holub produced a book Holub on Patterns Learning Design Patterns by Looking at Code ,
which detailed the use of design patterns while developing a game called Game of Life. The Game of
Life is a cellular automation program, which begins with cells that are classed as either alive or dead .
The idea is then that each cell follows a set of rules to determine which whether it can live or whether
it must die .
Holubs book, published in 2004 addressed some of the shortcomings of the GoF publication, such as
the patterns were now demonstrated in Java, which has become the favoured language of the software
development industry,

Christopher Innes The Historical Avant-Garde
The Historical Avant Garde expressed new ways of art and reformed the traditional sense of art.
Christopher Innes used three words that described the Avant Garde: populism, primitivism, and
philosophy. These components can be seen in the figures 1 3 that help define some known movements
of the Avant Garde. The movements that are particularly focused in these figures is Dada,
Expressionism, and Surrealism. Each image displays an aesthetic characteristic of the Avant Garde, as
well as defining what the movements stood for. In addition, the visual imagery of these figures
illustrates a new method of art, in attempt to create a better art. To begin, the Avant Garde opposed the

Primitivism held a contrast to western forms, and one of the non western forms that was seen was
spirituality. Not only this but in Murder: The Women s Hope, the characters are dressed in savage
appearance, which is not usually the typical attire in a traditional bourgeoisie play (Kokoschka 220).
This can also be seen in Figure 3, and it would explain why the women s breasts are exposed and why
the man is not wearing a shirt as well. This perspective is one of the elements of the Avant Garde, as it
is something considered new as well as going against the anti establishment of the traditional theatre.
Furthermore, the Avant Garde opposed mainstream theatre, and many of the Avant Garde movements
went against theatre. This was done by having using more interaction with their audience, creating
cultural changes, and holding more physical

The Software Development Life Cycle Essay
The waterfall method is a linear, sequential, non iterative process for software development first
mentioned by Herbert Benington in 1956. The software development life cycle (SDLC) is defined by
Ruparelia as a conceptual framework or process that considers the structure of the stages in volved in
the development of an application from its initial feasibility study through to its deploy ment in the
field and maintenance (Ruparelia, 2010, p. 8). This method is so named waterfall because the stages of
the SDLC cascade down through the stages of product consideration, re quirements, analysis, design,
development, testing, implementation and review/maintenance. In the 1970s, Winston Royce built on
the waterfall model to incorporate iteration and stage review. Royce s intent was to address the central
role that the design phase plays in minimizing risks by being re visited several times (Ruparelia, 2010,
p. 8). This later form of the waterfall model assumes that continual feedback is required to ensure
additional updates/improvements are implemented, and is therefore necessitated by the requisite
updates that subsequent testing phases bring to light. The most significant difference between the
original waterfall method of Benington and Royce s modified form is the need to re iterate and
validate that no further updates/revisions are required in prior stages before moving on to the next
phase. In some circumstances, there may even be a need to skip a previous phase to

Discoveries In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
Discoveries are an intricate concept, which are influenced by many interconnected elements showing
the significance of an individual s experience of confronting and provocative discoveries to affirm or
challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience. Through physical and mental
exploration, the ability to recognise the importance of discoveries is the underlying factor that
determines the individual s ability to positively or negatively transform and come to a new perspective
of themselves and those around them. This notion is indicative in William Shakespeare s 1611
tragicomedy The Tempest , Siegfried Sassoon s 1918 collection of war poetry Counter Attack and
Other Poems and Caravaggio s 1602 painting The Incredulity of Saint Thomas. All three demonstrate
the experience of confronting and provocative discoveries that involve the potential to affirm or
challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience, and the ultimate implications of
these discoveries on the characters.
Shakespeare s The Tempest reveals the underlying importance of confronting and provocative
elements in the process of discovery and the role it plays in an individual s ability to transform. The
protagonist Prospero s daughter, Miranda, acts as a euphemism for naïve innocence as a result of her
isolation on the island, physically detached from the rest of civilisation. When Miranda witnesses the
shipwreck, she demonstrates her awe and wonder, and her instinctive

Gary s House by Debra Oswald
Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change. Jim Rohns quote highlights the basis
of Debra Oswald s play Gary s house, and also Miroshav Holubs poem The Door. This essay will
explore the notion that change causes people to shift their thinking and actions after significant
catalysts. Gary s House illustrates many of the issues and predicaments confronted by the characters
and how their alteration in behaviour can have a beneficial outcome for them or others around them.
The concept of The Door is based on the idea of taking risks and embracing change. The poet uses
persuasive techniques to encourage and provoke the audience to take action.
In Debra Oswald s play Gary s House, the audience is introduced to crucial character, Christine.
Christine plays a meaningful role in this play as she has a distinct change in thinking and actions. In
the beginning of the play, it suggests that Christine is lonely and has a nomadic lifestyle in the stage
directions A country town motel room . The composer uses this setting to indicate that Christine is
travelling and doesn t commit to one place or situation. Further into the play we recognize that
Christine Drifted between foster homes and this is why she doesn t guarantee commitment. In addition
to this Christine quotes, And that poor baby. What chance has it got? Rule number one never have
kids. If you re damaged like Gary and me. This shows that what happened in the past affects her, as
she believes she or

The statement that famine is an unavoidable act of God and can only be helped by sending food relief
is only true in terms of an inefficient society. Famine in developed countries is absolutely unheard of.
The free market will not allow famine to occur because if a country is producing efficiently, it will be
actively involved in trade with other countries or other regions. Take the example of the two farmers
above. These villages are able to trade freely and would develop businesses that provide good and
services to each other, as well as save and reinvest in their villages. If such an act occurred in which
village one was unable to produce wheat, the price of wheat would increase to support the reduction in
supply. The market would reach an equilibrium in which the demand would meet supply at a certain
price. This equilibrium will prevent a shortage of wheat on the market. Wheat will become more
valuable and the demand will go down. Depending on what kind of demand exists outside of the
wheat producing village, the village may be able to get more corn or other services in exchange for its
more valuable wheat. However, if the government of the nation above has implemented a price ceiling
policy on the price of wheat in an effort to make wheat affordable to everyone, famine could strike. In
this instance, some occurrence would prevent village

Coconut Oil For A Saponification Of Organic Chemistry In...
Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification reaction
in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the reaction. An
extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically coconuts. When
laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives of students and
laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that could potentially be used
in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been determined that vegetable oil would
be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate.
If college and high school laboratories would switch to a vegetable based oil instead of the more
standard coconut oil, then students and staff with allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall
laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a consistently high reaction rate.
I. INTRODUCTION
The saponification reaction is one of the most basic foundational blocks for any chemistry major. The
reaction is typically around one hour and consists of the mixings of a fatty oil such as coconut oil,
vegetable oil, bio waste oils (used cooking oil), or other oils and a base such as sodium hydroxide. The
set up for the laboratory experiment is very important, you need to have a continuous stirring vassal
due to the long stir time that takes up the majority of the

Social Security And Health Insurance Program
At its initiation in 1965, Medicare expected to provide health insurance to Americans age 65 and older
and to younger people with certain disabilities or health conditions. It was a two part plan. Part A
providing payment to the hospital, home health following hospital stays, skilled nursing facility, and
hospice care for the aged and disabled. Part A is paid by payroll deductions with no premiums for
those who contributed. Part B, is an optional medical insurance program for which enrollees pay a
monthly premium. Part B can be used to pay for physician, outpatient hospital, home health, and other
services for the aged and disabled. Although it was considered during the 1930 s as a part of president
Roosevelt new deal. It was believed that the inclusion of the plan could jeopardize the success of
social security and hence was not added at that time. President Truman officially initiated the talks on
national health insurance program, but LBJ finally signed it into law and added it to the Social
security amendment in 1965. Since 1965 Medicare had changed multiple times with extended
eligibility to individuals under age 65 who have long term disabilities or end stage renal disease.
Addition of Part C (Medicare+Choice), also known as Medicare Advantage, drug benefit inclusion or
Medicare Part D, the most recent Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The responsibility for
overseeing Medicare and it funding lies with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Essay about The Character of Prospero in Shakespeare s...
The Character of Prospero in The Tempest
The presence of Prospero is felt continuously in The Tempest, even in those scenes in which he does
not appear personally. He is the manipulator of the action of the play, and occupies the center of the
stage very markedly, especially if one compares his position with that of the central characters of, say,
most of Shakespeare s history plays. For in the latter plays, England itself becomes the hero the
English crown, in its resistance to civil war and factionalism, and therefore there is usually no one
character of quite the same stature as Prospero.
In Latin, the name Prospero would mean, I hope for. That which a member of English Renaissance
society would generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It might be better to describe the process the characters all go through as initiation, not simply
education.
The point is that Prospero also learns. While he is master all through the play, he has learned well
before its opening that a Prince cannot abdicate his responsibilities. It will be recalled that Prospero
had lost his Dukedom in Milan in part because he neglected his everyday duties in favor of his more
abstract and theoretical studies. A Prince, Duke, or King cannot abdicate his responsibilities. Prospero
had been wrong when he had tried to do so, and in a way had himself been punished by exile. But
during his exile he has mastered both his own nature and his surroundings, and has learned what his
duty is as a ruler. He is doing only what he should when he resumes his position as the ruler of Milan.
In other Shakespearean plays, any ruler who abdicates or surrenders power, such as King Lear or
Richard II especially if he surrenders power voluntarily as did Lear always comes to grief, and his act
may lead not only to his own destruction but to the ruin of the political order of the state, as nearly
happens in King Lear. The theory of kingship held by many Elizabethans implied that once God had
appointed his viceregent in the person of a ruler, it was not for the ruler to attempt to modify

Orting, Washington Essay
The town of Orting is built in the valley of Mount Rainer in western Washington. Located 30 miles
from the volcano, Orting is built upon deposits of 500 year old lahar erupted from the volcano. Mount
Rainier is an active stratovolcano of andesitic rock, located along the convergent plate boundary
where the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate meet. Mount Rainier is the most prominent
mountain in the contiguous United States and is approximately 500,000 years old (The Cardinal).
Although Mount Rainier is considered to be an active volcano because of its lahar flow, it is currently
in resting state. The last eruption of this massive volcano occurred more than 115 years ago in 1884.
The eruptions of Mount Rainier produce lahar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seismometers and tilt meters are also used to detect volcanic activity and give advanced warning in
the Cascade Range. The Bride4Kids campaign is another measure that has been taken in order to keep
the people of the Orting community safe. The bridge connects Orting to the Cascadian Plateau which
allows children to quickly move from a place of caution to safer land. The Bridge4Kids also aims to
educate people on how to remain safe during a mudslide. Protecting Mount Rainier and the
surrounding wildlife in the Cascade Range is Mount Rainier National Park. The Park was established
on March 2, 1899 and was the 5th National Park in the United States (National Park Service U.S. Dept
of Interior). This National park attracts 1.3 million visitors annually seeking adventure in its natural
beauty. The park offers backpacking, camping, nature trails, fishing, and horseback riding, snow
skiing, and climbing. Approximately 10,000 visitors attempt to reach the peak of Mount Rainier every
year. The National Park also has waterfalls, subalpine wildflower meadows, and 26 beautiful glaciers.
Although Orting, Washington has numerous geological hazards because of its location so near to
Mount Rainier, it is a wonderful town that is perfect for young people and families. It has the
convenience of a city, being only 35 miles outside of Seattle, and it has the comfort of a small town
with incredible views of natural

Clyde Aspevig s White Cliffs Of The Missouri
Clyde Aspevig s painting White Cliffs of the Missouri , found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art
collection at the Tacoma Art Museum is an oil painting on canvas that is about 2½ by 3 feet in size.
This piece portrays white cliffs on the Missouri river, found in central Montana along the upper
Missouri River. Lewis and Clark traveled through these cliffs during their expedition in 1805, making
it a historical monument. Lewis kept a journal about this journey and marveled about the beauty of the
sandstone cliffs. I like this painting because of the feeling and memories it reminds me of. The water
and rocks remind me of all my childhood memories of swimming in the water and hiking mountains.
The bright and light colors create a cheerful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This painting is so realistic and painted with such precision and detail that he must ve wanted us to see
this place exactly how he did, with great beauty and light. The local colors are vibrant and cool yet
still make you smile because it reminds you of a warm summer day. The use of two contrasting colors,
the blue of the water and sky and the tan of the cliffs and couds, make the tan color stand out creating
such a visually pleasing and dynamic effect. The organic fluffy clouds and the ripples in the water
convey a peaceful sense to the scene. The pompous cliffs stand solidly contributing to the historical
importance of this location. The artist captures the illusion of depth through atmospheric perspective;
as the object gets farther it encompasses less detailed contributing to the descriptive nature of it. Since
the left side of the painting is much heavier than the right this painting is asymmetrical. Your eye tends
to gravitate towards the cliffs on the left because of their size and bright color which emphasize the
cliffs. This emphasis creates a focal point that the viewer is immediately compelled to look at.
A work that I am not particularly fond, also found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art exhibit is Rain
and Runoff an oil on linen by Ed Mell. This piece was at the Tacoma art museum and is also about 2½
x 3 feet in size. The subject of this painting is an abstract illustration of rain and its runoff, but because
of the abstract nature it is hard to make out the rain and other objects in this painting. The common
theme of his artworks has to do with weather and

  • 3. My Love Of My Life I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my voice for the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is James Brown! He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes always sparkled, and his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo. Finally, I have a chance to work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I went to the music department at my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room the people inside were staring at me, baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks. Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned under my weight. The people looked at empty spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally, James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During break time I rushed to the bathroom. When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we do with her? We can t put her on stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in the backstage to sing and have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this, suggested another. But who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I understood, they couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. • 4. The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people. The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia. From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven years, each servant was then entitled to freedom and the opportunity to work in the colony to best achieve individual benefits and the success offered by the New World. The early generations of these servants turned freemen posed little problem to their former masters as they constituted to small a segment of the population to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The demand for iPhone 6s was record breaking according to Apple (Apple. 2015). Sales of the most recent iPhone 6s continue, but in certain situations have not been meeting financial market expert projections. Investment firm Morgan Stanley implied the decline in sales were due to higher prices in foreign markets due to fluctuations in currency values (CNET, 2016). Kellogg s created a new category of branded breakfast cereal products throughout the world. Over the longer period of time, it has successfully been able to change eating habits of consumers and has converted various nations as corn flakes eating nations. After capturing over 40% US s ready to eat market in breakfast cereals alone, Kelloggs introduced its flagship products into Indian markets in 1994. Wrong promotion Kellogg in its initial advertisements questioned the nutrition quotient of Indian breakfast and suggested that Indian food was not very good for health. This deeply offended the emotions of Indian ladies who had been serving traditional breakfast for ages to their families. 5. Inadequate market research Kellogg s executives overestimated the target segment of Indian market. They came with the figure of 950 million people as if everyone eats breakfast in Indian, everyone who eats breakfast would potentially want to eat corn flakes. What Kellogg didn t know, as Homi Bhabha, director of Harvard s Faculty of Arts and Sciences Humanities center stated at the time, was that Indians, rather like the Chinese, think that to start the day with something cold, like cold milk on your cereal, is a shock to the system. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist, devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). A high score in this dimension represents a society that accepts an unequal distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their leadership structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social status of the leader is very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Low Power Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of power, and in turn employees will not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but how accessible that leader is for collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal connection with each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends. (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Before we are given a name or our gender has been identified, we are valued. As children, we are taught that we are valuable and that life is valuable. However, what makes human life valuable? The answer to this question may come from an analysis of the lives of two people; a fictional character and a real life person, and a comparison to my own personal belief about the value of life. Human life is valuable because of our capacity to learn and grow. From our mistakes to our strengths, we are all valuable. Roger Ebert was a popular film critic who tragically died from thyroid cancer in 2013. Before he passed, he revealed to the public that he had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone several surgeries. Burton Sohn English II Honors 7 April 2015 Word Count: 1360 The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life. As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself. Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato, Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett) After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles, known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual high point in Greek history. This approach is focused on art history/the fine arts approach meaning that it is influenced by art history and focuses on the visual art. Visual culture is the aspect of culture that is expressed in visual images. The rose window expresses visual culture through the fleur de lis symbols painted on the window. When you translate fleur de lis to English, it means, flower of the lily . The fleur de lis has many different meanings but traditionally it has been used to represent French royalty as well as representing perfection and life (The Fleur De Lis). This can be related to the stained glass window since the fleur de lis symbols are painted on the top half of the window along with the scene of the birth of baby Jesus. The visual culture approach not only focuses on art history and visual art, but four ways in which images participate in religious practices. These four ways include communication, communion, commemoration, and imagination. The main way that sticks out to me most is the commemoration category. This category focuses on images that remember important people, places, and ideas that are being celebrated and remembered. She is conflicted whether to accept the prescribed image society has of her or to embrace her true inner self. The Appeal Of Pathos In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood The best novels are the ones that connects with the reader and just toys with their emotions, as if they too were also in the story by using pathos, the most powerful appeal. This holds true with Truman Capote s, In Cold Blood and his writing appealing to the reader s emotions in the portrayal of Perry Edward Smith and Richard Dick Eugene Hickock, the two murders with an addition of Capote showing a great deal of favoritism to Perry over Dick. Throughout the novel, Capote uses tone and diction to allure the reader into the novel s world and into every character s life, just as if we knew their whole backstory. We see two heartless, cold blooded killers that slain the innocent family of the Clutters with the intent to leave no witnesses and to rob them of their hard earned money but Capote deceives the reader s emotions throughout the entirety of the book to humanize straight killers and make them likable. We often see a murderer as a psychopath without any emotion but it is hard to label Smith and Hickock one because Capote brings the reader into their lives in a way that we would feel sorry and have pity for them. Capote makes the reader relate to Smith and Hickock by describing their families and showing insight into the killers dreams and aspirations so we could perceive them as people and forget that they ended the future of the Clutters. The software development life cycle (SDLC) is defined by Ruparelia as a conceptual framework or process that considers the structure of the stages in volved in the development of an application from its initial feasibility study through to its deploy ment in the field and maintenance (Ruparelia, 2010, p. 8). This method is so named waterfall because the stages of the SDLC cascade down through the stages of product consideration, re quirements, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and review/maintenance. In the 1970s, Winston Royce built on the waterfall model to incorporate iteration and stage review. Royce s intent was to address the central role that the design phase plays in minimizing risks by being re visited several times (Ruparelia, 2010, p. 8). This later form of the waterfall model assumes that continual feedback is required to ensure additional updates/improvements are implemented, and is therefore necessitated by the requisite updates that subsequent testing phases bring to light. The most significant difference between the original waterfall method of Benington and Royce s modified form is the need to re iterate and validate that no further updates/revisions are required in prior stages before moving on to the next phase. In some circumstances, there may even be a need to skip a previous phase to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Discoveries In William Shakespeare s The Tempest Discoveries are an intricate concept, which are influenced by many interconnected elements showing the significance of an individual s experience of confronting and provocative discoveries to affirm or challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience. Through physical and mental exploration, the ability to recognise the importance of discoveries is the underlying factor that determines the individual s ability to positively or negatively transform and come to a new perspective of themselves and those around them. This notion is indicative in William Shakespeare s 1611 tragicomedy The Tempest , Siegfried Sassoon s 1918 collection of war poetry Counter Attack and Other Poems and Caravaggio s 1602 painting The Incredulity of Saint Thomas. All three demonstrate the experience of confronting and provocative discoveries that involve the potential to affirm or challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience, and the ultimate implications of these discoveries on the characters. Shakespeare s The Tempest reveals the underlying importance of confronting and provocative elements in the process of discovery and the role it plays in an individual s ability to transform. The protagonist Prospero s daughter, Miranda, acts as a euphemism for naïve innocence as a result of her isolation on the island, physically detached from the rest of civilisation. When Miranda witnesses the shipwreck, she demonstrates her awe and wonder, and her instinctive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Gary s House by Debra Oswald Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change. Jim Rohns quote highlights the basis of Debra Oswald s play Gary s house, and also Miroshav Holubs poem The Door. This essay will explore the notion that change causes people to shift their thinking and actions after significant catalysts. Gary s House illustrates many of the issues and predicaments confronted by the characters and how their alteration in behaviour can have a beneficial outcome for them or others around them. The concept of The Door is based on the idea of taking risks and embracing change. The poet uses persuasive techniques to encourage and provoke the audience to take action. In Debra Oswald s play Gary s House, the audience is introduced to crucial character, Christine. Christine plays a meaningful role in this play as she has a distinct change in thinking and actions. In the beginning of the play, it suggests that Christine is lonely and has a nomadic lifestyle in the stage directions A country town motel room . The composer uses this setting to indicate that Christine is travelling and doesn t commit to one place or situation. Further into the play we recognize that Christine Drifted between foster homes and this is why she doesn t guarantee commitment. In addition to this Christine quotes, And that poor baby. What chance has it got? Rule number one never have kids. If you re damaged like Gary and me. This shows that what happened in the past affects her, as she believes she or ... Benefits of Debt Cancellation and Agriculture Pricing Policies Benefits of Debt Cancellation and Agriculture Pricing Policies The authorities recognize that debt relief under the initiative would provide a unique opportunity to free up resources for additional poverty reducing spending. They also recognize that debt relief under the initiative would provide a unique opportunity to free up resources for additional poverty reducing spending. The statement that famine is an unavoidable act of God and can only be helped by sending food relief is only true in terms of an inefficient society. Famine in developed countries is absolutely unheard of. The free market will not allow famine to occur because if a country is producing efficiently, it will be actively involved in trade with other countries or other regions. Take the example of the two farmers above. These villages are able to trade freely and would develop businesses that provide good and services to each other, as well as save and reinvest in their villages. If such an act occurred in which village one was unable to produce wheat, the price of wheat would increase to support the reduction in supply. The market would reach an equilibrium in which the demand would meet supply at a certain price. This equilibrium will prevent a shortage of wheat on the market. Wheat will become more valuable and the demand will go down. Depending on what kind of demand exists outside of the wheat producing village, the village may be able to get more corn or other services in exchange for its more valuable wheat. However, if the government of the nation above has implemented a price ceiling policy on the price of wheat in an effort to make wheat affordable to everyone, famine could strike. In this instance, some occurrence would prevent village ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Coconut Oil For A Saponification Of Organic Chemistry In... Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification reaction in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the reaction. An extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically coconuts. When laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives of students and laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that could potentially be used in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been determined that vegetable oil would be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate. If college and high school laboratories would switch to a vegetable based oil instead of the more standard coconut oil, then students and staff with allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a consistently high reaction rate. I. INTRODUCTION The saponification reaction is one of the most basic foundational blocks for any chemistry major. The reaction is typically around one hour and consists of the mixings of a fatty oil such as coconut oil, vegetable oil, bio waste oils (used cooking oil), or other oils and a base such as sodium hydroxide. The set up for the laboratory experiment is very important, you need to have a continuous stirring vassal due to the long stir time that takes up the majority of the ... • 44. Social Security And Health Insurance Program At its initiation in 1965, Medicare expected to provide health insurance to Americans age 65 and older and to younger people with certain disabilities or health conditions. It was a two part plan. Part A providing payment to the hospital, home health following hospital stays, skilled nursing facility, and hospice care for the aged and disabled. Part A is paid by payroll deductions with no premiums for those who contributed. Part B, is an optional medical insurance program for which enrollees pay a monthly premium. Part B can be used to pay for physician, outpatient hospital, home health, and other services for the aged and disabled. Although it was considered during the 1930 s as a part of president Roosevelt new deal. It was believed that the inclusion of the plan could jeopardize the success of social security and hence was not added at that time. President Truman officially initiated the talks on national health insurance program, but LBJ finally signed it into law and added it to the Social security amendment in 1965. Since 1965 Medicare had changed multiple times with extended eligibility to individuals under age 65 who have long term disabilities or end stage renal disease. • 45. Essay about The Character of Prospero in Shakespeare s... The Character of Prospero in The Tempest The presence of Prospero is felt continuously in The Tempest, even in those scenes in which he does not appear personally. He is the manipulator of the action of the play, and occupies the center of the stage very markedly, especially if one compares his position with that of the central characters of, say, most of Shakespeare s history plays. For in the latter plays, England itself becomes the hero the English crown, in its resistance to civil war and factionalism, and therefore there is usually no one character of quite the same stature as Prospero. In Latin, the name Prospero would mean, I hope for. That which a member of English Renaissance society would generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It might be better to describe the process the characters all go through as initiation, not simply education. The point is that Prospero also learns. While he is master all through the play, he has learned well before its opening that a Prince cannot abdicate his responsibilities. It will be recalled that Prospero had lost his Dukedom in Milan in part because he neglected his everyday duties in favor of his more abstract and theoretical studies. A Prince, Duke, or King cannot abdicate his responsibilities. Prospero had been wrong when he had tried to do so, and in a way had himself been punished by exile. But during his exile he has mastered both his own nature and his surroundings, and has learned what his duty is as a ruler. He is doing only what he should when he resumes his position as the ruler of Milan. In other Shakespearean plays, any ruler who abdicates or surrenders power, such as King Lear or Richard II especially if he surrenders power voluntarily as did Lear always comes to grief, and his act may lead not only to his own destruction but to the ruin of the political order of the state, as nearly happens in King Lear. The theory of kingship held by many Elizabethans implied that once God had appointed his viceregent in the person of a ruler, it was not for the ruler to attempt to modify ... • 47. Clyde Aspevig s White Cliffs Of The Missouri Clyde Aspevig s painting White Cliffs of the Missouri , found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art collection at the Tacoma Art Museum is an oil painting on canvas that is about 2½ by 3 feet in size. This piece portrays white cliffs on the Missouri river, found in central Montana along the upper Missouri River. Lewis and Clark traveled through these cliffs during their expedition in 1805, making it a historical monument. Lewis kept a journal about this journey and marveled about the beauty of the sandstone cliffs. I like this painting because of the feeling and memories it reminds me of. This painting is so realistic and painted with such precision and detail that he must ve wanted us to see this place exactly how he did, with great beauty and light. The local colors are vibrant and cool yet still make you smile because it reminds you of a warm summer day. The use of two contrasting colors, the blue of the water and sky and the tan of the cliffs and couds, make the tan color stand out creating such a visually pleasing and dynamic effect. The organic fluffy clouds and the ripples in the water convey a peaceful sense to the scene. The pompous cliffs stand solidly contributing to the historical importance of this location. The artist captures the illusion of depth through atmospheric perspective; as the object gets farther it encompasses less detailed contributing to the descriptive nature of it. Since the left side of the painting is much heavier than the right this painting is asymmetrical. Your eye tends to gravitate towards the cliffs on the left because of their size and bright color which emphasize the cliffs. This emphasis creates a focal point that the viewer is immediately compelled to look at.
