Essay about Investigative Plan
Unit 7: Criminal Justice Operations
Scott L. Mankewitz
Kaplan University
CJ 499: Criminal Justice Capstone
Professor Jennifer Hulvat 1 July 2012
As the newly elected Chief of Police for the City of Scottsville, TX, my first task is to create and
implement a plan to deal with the recent spate of multiple daytime robberies. To complete this task,
we will develop a comprehensive investigation plan, determine our technological needs, analyze and
synthesize the crime data, determine which investigative unit(s) will be assigned the task, and
determine what our supply and equipment needs are.

10) Conduct surveillance operations in downtown area using plain clothes officers
and detectives and uniformed officers in an attempt to funnel the suspects into a
manageable area to apprehend. By using uniformed officers in certain areas of
downtown the suspects may determine a softer target that is under surveillance
by plain clothed officers and detectives where the suspect could be apprehended
with limited possibility of civilian casualties.
Technological Assistance
The technological needs for an operation such as this are many. It would be easy to supply all of the
needed equipment if there were no budgetary restraints.
However, the budget of the Scottsville Police Department is small and there is not enough tax revenue
generated to provide all of the needed equipment. Therefore, this operation will be conducted using
equipment already in the department s supply. Any additional equipment needed will be borrowed
from neighboring departments or, hopefully, provided by the local business owners. The department s
computer system is state of the art and was purchased using federal funding from the Department of
Homeland Security 2010 Preparedness Grant to local agencies to combat terrorism and illegal
immigration due to our close proximity to the U.S. and Mexican

Living In A Residential Community Analysis
Living in a residential community seems pretty similar to living in a dorm in college, which was not a
problem for me. Pros are being able to meet new people and having a stronger sense of independence.
Also, because you re surrounded by other DIS students, everyone is in a similar situation and is
probably experiencing the same concerns; it would be nice to have other students to talk with about
similar struggles or triumphs. The biggest cons would probably be feeling like you have no time to
yourself as well as possibly not interacting enough with Danish locals. As a roommate, I m a mostly
clean and quiet person. I m also a heavy sleeper and I love to sleep in but I can also rally pretty early if
I need to. My greatest contribution to my

Social Relations Between Economic Organizations And The...
1.1 Introduction.
From what process(es) does the code, the simulacrum, the object as a sign, emerge?
According to Baudrillard, Symbolic Exchange is a form of exchange which both maintains and
organizes divergent social relations and hierarchies [1]. The difference between Symbolic Exchange
and other types of exchange, is that the value of an exchanged object does not value the act of
exchanging it [1].
Fascination surrounding the dynamics of production, distribution, and consumption have been focal
points in the dialogue of politics since Plato s archetypal philosophies [2]. New life was delivered into
these issues in the modern world, through stringent analysis and critique by Karl Marx, within his
exploration regarding the relationship between economic organizations and the distribution between
power in society. Although, in spite of Marx s prediction regarding capitalism s looming collapse [3],
capitalism continues to expand [4]. Jean Baudrillard s concept of Symbolic Exchange portrays a
formidable role in comprehending why Karl Marx s prediction in regards to the disintegration of
Capitalism has not come to fruition. Baudrillard adds to the preexisting Marxian notion of use value
and exchange value proposing that, in contemporary consumer orientated society, various
commodities inhibit a symbolic value which comprises their status , and thus, their power [1].

Baudrillard argues that our perceived social reality is merely a

Causes Of Jim Crow Laws
During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion. They
were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or African
American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the African
Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this conflict
was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still slaves. White
people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race, color of their skin, or
culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861, the Civil War started. The
main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it, depending on what side you were on
(according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted slavery to keep going, but the people in the
North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and four years of severe and cruel fighting the war
ended. There was no more slavery, the North had won. If the South had won the war there would
probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most
important factor for the laws. With them losing the war, now the people of the South had political,
economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Due to the fact that the South lost the war, there slaves
were now free and now had political freedom. Now the African Americans could run for political

Analysis Of Title VII Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
First of all, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal regulation prohibiting employers from
discriminating against employees based on national origin, race, sex, color, and religion (Follett,
Ward, Welch, 1993). This act applies to employers with 15 or more employees and serves as a
mechanism to ensure equality within the workplace (Fraley, 2013). This case is a violation of Title VII
from the aspect of retaliation. Retaliation occurs when an individual is treated differently after such
things as, filing a complaint or engaging in a legally protected activity. It can range from demotion,
terminations, salary reduction, or any negative job action. Second, the plaintiff should receive

1 Corinthians Authorship
The date and authorship of 1 Corinthians, in general, is highly uncontested. Most biblical scholars are
comfortable setting the probable date for the writing of 1 Corinthians at 54 56 A.D. and the author as
the apostle Paul. There is a lot of support in the Bible and also historical reinforcement that uphold
this date and authorship for the book of 1 Corinthians. The only major area of contention in regards to
the letter of 1 Corinthians is in its integrity. Some scholars would argue that the letter is a combination
of multiple letters written by Paul that over time were stitched together to form 1 Corinthians, while
others would propose that Paul wrote the letter over an extended period as he received new
information about what was happening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was written while Paul was in Ephesus. Paul had spent approximately eighteen months in 50 to 51
A.D. in the city of Corinth, where he was instrumental in starting up the Corinthian church. This was
one of the longest times he spent with a church during his missionary journeys. After leaving the
Corinthian church, Paul stayed in contact with them. The letters of 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians are
not the only correspondence that transpired between Paul and the church, though they are the only two
letters that are still in existence today. Scholars are confident there were at least four letters, with 1
Corinthians being the second letter Paul sent. The first letter is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5: 9 10.
The third letter was sent between 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians. It is mentioned in 2 Corinthians 2:
4 11 and 2 Corinthians 7: 5 13. Paul also communicated with the Corinthian church through
messengers, who kept him informed over what was transpiring in the church body. He also made
another trip to visit the church, stayed with them for three months, and then made his way to
Jerusalem with the offering he had collected for the Jerusalem

Essay on Historians Interest in Elizabeth and Her Successors
Historians Interest in Elizabeth and Her Successors
Elizabeth Tudor is considered by many to be the greatest monarch in English history. When she
became queen in 1558, she was twenty five years old, a survivor of scandal and danger, and
considered illegitimate by most Europeans. She inherited a bankrupt nation, torn by religious discord,
a weakened pawn between the great powers of France and Spain. She was only the third queen to rule
England in her own right; the other two examples, her cousin Lady Jane Grey and half sister Mary I,
were disastrous. Even her supporters believed her position dangerous and uncertain. Although there
was widely held discomfort with England having a female ruler, ... Show more content on

The complex issue of who might have been chosen as a husband for Elizabeth has greatly interested
historians, as there was no shortage of candidates. However, candidates had to be approved by both
Elizabeth and her council, which proved harder than they had imagined. Potential partners fell into
two categories: Englishmen and foreigners. There were unfortunately drawbacks in both categories. If
Elizabeth were to marry an Englishman he would be of non royal stock as there were no remaining
male Tudor relations of a marriageable age. However, Mary s marriage to Philip II of Spain meant
now that many at Court disliked the prospect of the Queen marrying a foreigner. Although Mary had
signed a pre nuptial contract limiting Philip s powers, she was reluctant to enforce it and the common
opinion was that this led to the loss of Calais. The xenophobic feelings of the council (and public)
were heightened in 1554 1558 and they were determined that this situation would not arise again,
where Britain would not become A satellite of the bridegroom s domains.....the new king s territories.
(Keith Randell.) Some historians believe that having witnessed this situation, Elizabeth herself wished
to be avoid risking the loss of control that Mary experienced (C. Jordan) and this may have made her
reluctant to seriously

Subaru Car Research Paper
Subaru cars are no ordinary cars they are high performance cars. Therefore, performance cars need
performance replacement parts to ensure that the performance of the car is maintained. When any part
or accessory of your Subaru car is worn out or damaged, always insist on replacing it with a genuine
Subaru part. Getting genuine Subaru parts is the best thing you can do for your vehicle. No matter the
destination, with high performance Subaru parts, you can enjoy your every ride to the fullest. The
genuine parts are designed to handle any kind of duress, be it physical or climatic. Therefore,
whenever any parts that need replacement, replace them with high performance genuine parts and do
not compromise the performance of your vehicle. Most Subaru cars have a boxer engine, a flat laying
engine, that delivers an impressive amount of power. The flat laying engine layout also factors toward
the better balance and fuel economy of the Subaru vehicles. Now, you would not want to give up the
exceptional power, balance and fuel economy of your Subaru car with inferior Subaru parts...right?
For that reason, it is always in your best interest to go for genuine Subaru parts. Aftermarket Subaru
parts are available on the market, but it is not prudent to seek them. If you do not know the concept of
aftermarket parts, let us explain it to you. Aftermarket parts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

parts or OEM Subaru parts go through severe quality checks; aftermarket Subaru parts do not go

safely inside a 300 meter wide crater. From Tranquility Base came the first transmission from the
lunar surface that the American craft known as the Eagle had landed. While the return trip would be
just as dangerous as the 8 days travelled to the moon, the main objective was completed, and the
world knew that American now led the space race. (Phys.org) In 1957 the Soviet s surprised the world

There is a vast amount of contest surrounding the issues of whether Australian workplaces are family
friendly and are able to both accommodate and promote a healthy work life balance for employees.
This essay will discuss these issues by using evidence gathered from an array of both academic and
secondary sources, with particular consideration being paid to the notion and ideal of a family friendly
workplace existing within Australia. The first aspect that will be discussed is the concept of a family
friendly workplace and specific examples of Australian workplaces that implement such practices will

51). As a part of their representation and constant struggle for the rights of workers and their families,
the Australian Council of Trade Unions has addressed the need to have family friendly policies and
practices, with an emphasis on work hours, introduced into Australian workplaces under law.
Although Trade Unions play a fundamental role in the provision of family friendly policies, the public
sector has been known to demonstrate a higher level of acceptance and willingness towards
implementing family friendly initiatives, as opposed to the private sector (Ravenswood Markey 2011,
p. 500). This suggests that organisational factors have an immense impact upon the unions ability to
influence workplace policies, no matter what they are in relation to. A study conducted by
Ravenswood Markey (2011) demonstrated evidence that family friendly policies and the influence of
a union is far more imaginable and favourable within workplaces that fall into the category of the
public sector (Ravenswood Markey 2011, p. 500). For organisations to be willing and amiable in
moving towards implementing family friendly policies, there first needs to be a strong union in place
and the existence of collective bargaining relationships with management for this to be a possibility

Texas Bottomland Wetlands
Bottomland hardwoods are wetlands found along rivers and streams which sometimes flood beyond
their channels into hardwood forested floodplains. These wetlands, which include forests, swamps,
ponds, and water channels, are considered some of the most important habitats in Texas wildlife.
Soil type and adaptation of that soil. What is different about wetland soil? How can we recognize it?
The Texas bottomland hardwood soil is highly fertile due to the nearby water resources. These
wetlands are able to control the soil erosion in order to prevent flood damage and maintain water
quality. The soil is often a deep brown or brownish red color.

Human impacts in habitat, pollution, chemicals, etc...; Why should we protect wetlands? How can we

These wetlands can be protected if humans reduce pollution amounts. Many wetlands are affected by
pesticides and fertilizers, among other pollutants, clogging up the waters. Another thing which is
harming wetlands is when people drain them or get rid of them to make way for open land. People can
help by either joining a cause which preserves wetlands or by making sure rivers and streams become
pollution free zones so that the organisms living there can continue to survive.

How Did Barack Obama Civil Rights Change
Changes
Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America on November 4,
2008. He was the first black man to be elected to office. Due to the Civil Rights Movement and
abolishment of slavery, African Americans gained many new freedoms and possibilities. African
Americans gained the right to vote, the right to get a quality education, and they were seen as equals to
the whites. This all eventually lead to the election of Barack Obama.
In 1863, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which abolished slavery in most
states and in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was passed. Is was not until the signing of the 13th
amendment that slavery was officially abolished in all fifty states. This allowed African Americans to
be free. They could now work for pay and own their own house without the fear and threat of slavery.
In 1965, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had an intense meeting, where the contents of the Voting Rights
Act was being discussed and finalized. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. went back to Washington DC and
witnessed this Act become a bill. The Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Johnson in

Skin Cell Revelletion
Exfoliation is the key to getting skin that looks fresh, bright, and smooth.
As our skin ages, the rate of skin cell regeneration begins to diminish. The result is a dreary, dull skin
tone. Proper exfoliation is essential to retain a healthy, radiant glow. But, not all forms of exfoliation
are the same, and various skin types will need a personalized approach to exfoliation.
Most people know why it s important to routinely exfoliate skin. However, not everyone does it
properly. The following are a few guidelines to get you on the right path for younger, fresher looking
skin.
1. If Your Skin Is Irritated Or Sensitive, Exfoliating Daily Is Not Necessary

Immediately after using a washcloth, generously apply a thick moisturizer to soothe, replenish and

People with overly sensitive skin should avoid excessive scrubbing, which can result in undue

product to a small area on your face to test for any irritation or skin sensitivities.
2. Exfoliating Gloves
Exfoliating gloves were created to use with or without exfoliate scrubs, and the majority of them are
great to use on any part of your body. They are particularly useful for exfoliating your legs, as well as
other larger areas of your skin where using a washcloth or small sponge may take too much time.
Simply apply the cleanser to the gloves and gently begin to scrub the area of your skin you wish to
exfoliate. Completely rinse the gloves after you are finished and let them air dry naturally.

Summary Of Jane Goodall s Memoir With Phillip Berman,...
Coming to Terms in Faith Jane Goodall s memoir with Phillip Berman, Reason for Hope talks about
how a women s journey to come to terms with faith through the experiences in Tanzania. Her journey
toward this goal started from her religious childhood, which led her with chimpanzees at the Gombe
Forest in Tanzania. By believing in her faith into traveling to Tanzania, Jane saw the good in
chimpanzees and humans and developed faith in them. When Jane was growing up, she grew up in a
religious family. From that she always been fascinated to become a martyr, (Goodall 126) which is
when a person chooses to die instead of denying a strongly held belief. During World War II, she hated
Joseph Stalin because he was controlling the communist country of Russia. She wanted to support the
Christians that are in Russia. Jane explains in her memoir Reasons for Hope, This daydreaming made
me come to terms with human brutality, suffering, courage idealism and even faith. (Goodall 26). This
childhood dream of being in the star role helped her forget her worries about what she is going to do
in the future. This is amazing for Jane because not many people at her age that have the courage to
step up for what they believe that is right. Although Ms. Goodall realized the human brutality and
suffering of humanity that also included faith, this knowledge benefited her when she set foot in the
African continent of Tanzania. When Jane Goodall arrived in the Gombe Forest in Tanzania, she was

You Can Never Predict What Life Is Going At You
You can never predict what life is going to throw at you. Until I was about 9 years old, I lived in
Groves, Texas which was located by the Gulf of Mexico. Groves was a small town, so small that I had
to go to school in Port Arthur, the city right next to Groves. I had a small house and a big backyard
with lots of trees. My dad also kept a small ship and a boat in our yard, and I always thought about
what it might be like to board the ship. My days would be spent playing with my little sister and
hanging out in the yard, exploring every inch of our lawn. One hot September day, I was in my fourth

so packed I had to move in awkward positions to get comfortable and use cardboard boxes as pillows.
We could not afford to pull over for potty breaks so my parents had my sister and I pee in a jar. Gross

We were given two cots since there were four family members and we huddled our way to the middle

A common method of dispute resolution that avoids many of the challenges associated with litigation
is alternative dispute resolution. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is a term that encompasses
many different methods of dispute resolution other than litigation. ADR involves resolving disputes
outside of the judicial process, though the judiciary can require parties to participate in specific types
of ADR, such as arbitration, for some types of conflicts. Moreover, some ADR methods vest power to
resolve the dispute in a neutral party, while other strategies vest that power in the parties themselves.
In a negotiation, there is no neutral party charged with ensuring that rules are followed, that the

Porter s 5 Forces Analysis Essay
PORTER S 5 FORCES ANALYSIS: Overall, we found this to be an unattractive industry due to the
following factors:
Rivalry: The airline industry is filled with over 5000 airlines worldwide creating a considerable
amount of competition. Initially, airlines would compete based on price, however, airlines such as the
United Arab Emirates have begun to add unique amenities such as showers and Wifi to attract the
wealthy, luxury seeking client. Moreover, despite Delta being one of the major airlines, there are over
100 airlines in the United States adding to the competitive market and allowing more choice for
customers. These factors ultimately make the airline industry unattractive, both currently and in the
future, as it is difficult to continue adding value that does not stem from price reductions.
Threat of New Entrants: Entering the airline industry has high capital requirements and any new
airline would need to develop customer trust before becoming profitable. Therefore, the threat from
start up airlines is relatively low. However, private jet companies, as well as low cost carriers, are
entering the market segment of Delta which contributes to this being an overall unattractive industry.
As these new competitors solidify their position in Delta s market segment, this industry will remain
unappealing.
Bargaining Power of Consumers: With thousands of airlines worldwide, consumers have the option of
choosing any airline based on price and comfort. Generally, there is little

How Red Effects Human Emotion and Behavior Essay
There is an influence constantly working on our minds, one that we may not have even noticed. It
follows us everywhere, and we can t escape it no matter how hard we try. It doesn t make a sound or
move, it just silently hides in plain sight effecting the way we think. Colors are one of the most
effective yet least thought about influences on our minds. How come seemingly every super hero has a
red suit? Or why are the super villains always wearing black? Why are hospitals never painted red,
and most businesses have white, yellow, and red for their logo colors? The most emotionally intense
color is arguably red. Even though we don t always notice it, red effects our moods, how we perceive

If one competitor is weak and another is strong, wearing red won t change that. But the closer the
levels of the two players, the more the color will have an influence on the other opponent (Ahmed

more mistakes, and even feel guilt or hatred while in the game. Pink, a lighter shade of red, has a
slightly different effect. Though still a shade of red, it has a dramatic difference in how it can make us
feel. Pink sneaks in feeling of love, serenity, and can drain energy. Which is why often times teams
paint their opponents locker rooms pink, in hopes to make them a little more relaxed and drained
before games. Clothing A study at University of Rochester was done on how the color red can effect
how men think of women. In the first test, they held up one of two pictures. Both were pictures of the
same woman, but she was wearing red in one, and blue in the other. In the second test, they held up
one of two pictures as well. The two pictures were exactly alike, but one had a red border around the
picture, and the other had black. On average 85% of the men said the woman with either the red
border or the red shirt was more attractive. They also said they would be willing to do more for and
spend more on the woman in red (someone). This wasn t the case when asked which woman looked

The Cause Of The Stono Rebellion, South Carolina
On Sunday, September 9th, 1739 the British colony of South Carolina was shaken by a slave uprising
that culminated with the death of sixty people (The Stono Rebellion 1739). It was one of the first
organized slave revolts in history (Stono Rebellion 1739). As a result, the Stono Rebellion started to
change viewpoints on slavery. Slave revolts started to become a problem for plantation owners. Due to
this conflict over slave revolts, specifically the Stono Rebellion, South Carolina compromised by
passing the Negro Act of 1740 and other laws regarding slavery. At the time of the Stono Rebellion,
Spanish Florida, a separate entity from the British colonies until 1763, became known as a safe haven
for fugitive slaves (Stono Rebellion 1739). Seeking to cause turmoil in British colonies, Spain passed
a law stating that any escaped slave that reaches Spanish territory (which is now Florida) would be
freed. In response to this new law, a group of slaves led by a Angolan slave named Jemmy, met on
September 9, 1739 near the Stono river to plan an escape to Spanish Florida (The Stono Rebellion
Timeline). They planned to revolt on a Sunday when they had the most freedom from their daily
routine. In preparation for their escape, it was realized that many of the slaves involved in the Stono
Rebellion were from Congo (Stono Rebellion 1739). At the time, Congo was at war with itself making
its people susceptible to being captured and sent into slavery (Stono Rebellion 1739). With this

Cedar trees and their roots are what make the water a brownish red color. One of the most popular

flies by attracting them with a liquid which is like pollen located at the bottom of the pitcher. The
wetlands are an amazing part of the pinelands. They prevent pollution from entering the lakes as well
as preventing floods. This is a major part of the safety of the Pine Barrens. This is where the

My Major At Nicholls State University
SELF EXPLORATION
My major at Nicholls State University is Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science;
however, I plan to transfer to University of Louisiana at Lafayette to pursue a degree in Physics. The
process in which one would solve a problem has always appealed to me. In math, specifically
calculus, derivatives tell me how the original function acts and integrals tell me the relevance of the
original function to the x axis. Using a simple formula to find the answer to a seemingly impossible
problem that involves numbers that geniuses have discovered centuries ago is the most amazing thing
one could possibly do, in my opinion. Also, upon taking my computer science course, I have learned
how to write certain scripts. Writing these scripts has taught me of a connection between the person
and the computer; sort of like a collaboration.
Ten years from now, I can see myself finally being self sufficient; drinking tea in my own apartment
while watching TV and petting my kitty cat. Career wise, I want to work in an office probably creating
a new way to solve some sort of problem. I could see myself in the astrophysics, computer science, or
mathematics field. When I was younger, my dad and I would this game, Space Girl, in which I would
run around the house or outer space and I would jump on his back and flip over his head or, land on
earth. That s when I knew I wanted to work in an area that involved space and aeronautics. When I

Divorce Is A Win And A Loss For Parents And Children
Divorce is a Win and a Loss for Parents and Children The divorce rate in today s society according to
Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is higher than ever. Although people have a legal right to file for divorce, it
is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of a Divorce
Culture , that divorce has become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s society, divorce is
viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for divorce with no stigma.
Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also shows reasons why couples
should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final decision such as their children s
consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce culture as a very serious ethical problem
by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and how their children can be effected by it.
Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem, people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is
for their own satisfaction. We never know what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and
what types of issues they are going through. Whitehead mentions in her article about how abusive and
how demolorizing some relationships can be. In her article, Whitehead states We must assume that
divorce is necessary as a remedy for irretrievably broken marriages, especially those that are marred
by severe abuse such as chronic infidelity, drug addiction, or physical

How Does Chesnutt Present The Theme Of Character Foils In...
In The Marrow of Tradition, Chesnutt uses the ideas of character doubles to represent the idea of race
vs respect. By creating these doubles he creates a theme of duality throughout the book that reflects
upon the racism during the time period the book is written about. Chesnutt insinuates the idea of race
versus respect in a dualital manner that compliments each character s respective differences while still
showing the reader exactly why each pair of character foils are two sides of the same coin through
various examples throughout the book, such as Tom and Ellis, and Olivia and Janet. An example of
race vs. respect given in the book was the relation of Tom Delamere and Lee Ellis. Both of these

In the story, Janet and her mother are expelled from the family by Mrs. Ochiltree. Even though the
fortune was left to her mother by her father, Mrs. Ochiltree stole the will and the money Samuel
Merkell left Julia, and she hid the will to protect Olivia s inheritance. All of these actions were
motivated by the fact that Janet was the illegitimate black child. Janet and Olivia have similar motives
in this story, but even so, the way they are treated is completely different. Olivia was able to live the
easy life because she received the stolen fortune as she was the white child. Janet on the other hand
was forced to live a hard life, working her way back up from the ground as she was half black. Despite
coming from the same father, their lifestyle is completely overturned simply because of race. Because
Janet was born black, she is disrespected and disowned from the family. Because Olivia was born
white, she is able many family members care for her, such asMrs. Ochiltree who just gives her
everything. This injustice is what the motif of doubles is bringing to light. All in all, Chesnutt uses the

Honore de Balzac and Gustave Flaubert s Writings on Capitalism
The Revolution in France, during the 19th century, gave power to the people for the first time in
France. French citizens now had faith that they could form a strong, independent country; but what
they did not realize was that there must be some form of financial or monetary backbone present for a
country to excel on its own in the modern world. This gave way to the rise of capitalism and all its
follies, debaucheries, and mainly the exploitive nature it excites in people. Two authors, who were
writing and observing these changes during this time in France, Honore de Balzac, and Gustave
Flaubert, exemplify the demoralization of a people caused by the onslaught of ... Show more content

Eugene s actions are exploitive because he has no regard for the well being of his family by asking for
their life savings. Eugene also does not take into account how he is going to recover the sums he
unethically acquires. However, capitalism s influence does not stop with Eugene in this instance. The
idea of needing expensive clothes and flashy attire influences his sister Laura that she should use her
sewing and clothes making skills in order to save Eugene some money, and therefore have a better
chance of Parisian high society accepting him. Eugene says that his sister has become as crafty as a
thief (87), which comments on the changes within her caused by the minute exposure to modern,
capitalistic, ideals. However, really Laura is stealing from herself by willingly exploiting her own
labor without compensation of any sort. Here, along with the ever present portrayal of Goriot s
daughters bamboozling him for money, Balzac illustrates the most pathetic and demoralizing form of
exploitation: when one exploits or unfairly takes advantage of their own family in a way that can lead
them to starvation or even death.
Pere Goriot and Eugene are not only involved with family exploitation, but they are also taking

When Kingston was little, she was so afraid of speaking English that she was silent in American

Infertility In The Handmaid s Tale By Margaret Atwood
Infertility is the incapability or failure conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse or due
to an impairment a person s capacity to reproduce either as an individual or with his/her partner. While
infertility can cause issues in men and women, women are more susceptible to having issues
conceiving naturally. 1 in 8 women (or 12% of married couples) have trouble getting pregnant or
sustaining a pregnancy (2006 2010 National Survey of Family Growth, CDC). There is a process in
which three stages such as ovulation, fertilization, and implantation that a women s body must go
through to get pregnant. When there are issues in these stages, infertility is diagnosed and examined
by a doctor therefore, making it hard to conceive a baby naturally. Throughout this paper, I will
explain three common causes of infertility in females like endometriosis, sexual transmitted diseases,
and poor nutrition. In the story The Handmaid s Tale, by Margaret Atwood, women are infertile
because of pollution, STD s, and radiation. If in fact, radiation caused the women of Gilead to be
infertile it could possible because the radiation caused a chemical or hormonal imbalance. With that
being said, the world we live in today, the leading causes of infertility in the U.S. is endometriosis.
Infertile women are 6 to 8 times more likely to have endometriosis than fertile women (Verkauf BS).

Certainly, violence stood out like an oasis in a barren desert when Wolverine s hand is covered in

Correspondingly, systematic violence is a concept which intensely develops through the film. The
mutants captured are mentally and physically abused to create children with their powers and they will
be used as killing machines. As a matter of fact, before the mutant genocide, they helped humans
when they were in a life and death situation and now the people are paying them by killing the whole
mutant population. According to The Five Faces of Oppression written by Young states that Some
groups live with the knowledge that they most fear random, unprovoked attacks / which have no
motive but to damage, humiliate and destroy the person (Young 61). The whole X Men team, which
consisted of mutants is gone since the Reavers are killing the mutants and creating genetically
engineered children with the same abilities as the mutants in order to use them as their secret weapon.
In order, for the mutants to survive the genocide they need to stay together. Previously, without a

Improving Quality Of Video Content Service
Abstract
With the rapid growth of technological advancements globally in the field of Cloud computing, there s
been a tremendous change in the number of customers accessing the cloud. At this point of time the
question which arises is the quality of service i.e. streaming performance provided by cloud service
providers which is a factor of bandwidth. The streaming performance is degraded whenever we
download video content from the cloud because downloading a high quality or popular video requires
large number of peers to combine and then produce the video, for this method the amount of
bandwidth is also too high and costly. This paper mainly concentrates on improving the quality of
video content service by studying the obstacles faced by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of gadgets are totally dependent on cloud for file transfer and storage of data. Not only has it
stored the data it also provides the security for the data present in cloud with less cost. The services
provided by cloud are Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS), Software as a
service (SaaS), Saas users use an application software and databases, the Saas services include
Google, YouTube, drives etc(1). The main purpose of this research is the concern we are having
towards improving the efficiency of the video content traffic because of its majority contribution in
internet traffic.
Presently, File downloading based on automotive mode switch (AMS) algorithm, this approach is an
effective but video content downloading does not always give good performance (3). When AMS
method is used the internet buffering is less but the bandwidth is high and costly (3). Moreover AMS
algorithm uses peers in order to provide the requested video by users (3), if the video is so long then it
would take more peers in order to provide video, when there are more peers there is no proper
scheduling of peers due to which when we want to get some unpopular video the peers provide a low
quality video. By using our proposed method we are going to solve the problem of bandwidth and cost
because agents provide their bandwidth resources constantly at a much lesser price.

The Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorder (...
Gender dysphoria is a complex struggle between a person s physical gender and who he or she
identifies, and this could be an individual physically born as a male that identifies as being female and
vice versa. Biological sex is determined at birth based upon the appearance of the infant, but gender
identity is how the person feels or how they identify themselves, which is where the dysphoria comes
in. It is from highly complex genetic, neurodevelopmental, and psychological factors (Mandal, 2012),
and is not the same as homosexuality or gender nonconformity. Symptoms and signs of gender
dysphoria may vary depending upon age and gender. Gender dysphoria becomes known as a disorder
when it fits certain criteria. Treatment is available when needed. There are speculations on the cause,
but no real answer. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM 5) made changes
to ensure clinical care that is proper and without stigma for individuals with gender dysphoria. The
DSM 5 does provide an overarching diagnosis, but with specific criteria for children and for
adolescents and adults (DSM, 2013). A marked discrepancy between the individual s communicated
gender and his or her natal gender must be ongoing at least six months (Parekh, 2016). Children and
adults must verbalize or show a desire to be the other gender under the guidelines of DSM 5. Children

The Components Of Wine Prices
Components of Wine Prices When people walk in a wine shop or grocery store s wine aisle, there are
often hundreds of wines with different price on display. The consumer may wonder what is the
difference between a thousand dollar wine and a twenty dollar wine. On the bottle of wine, a typical
label shows a lot of information. How to use those informations to evaluate the true value of wine
definitely is a challenge. Even though consumer can easily find the quality rating of wine which
published by various wine writers and critics; however, the wine writers opinion can influence
consumer perceptions. Therefore, analysis the internal and external impact on wine prices helps
consumer make a wise decision. According to a wine marketing research in Australian Marketing
Journal, wine s brand name, geographic region, grape types, fermentation method and vintage date are
the main components that affect wine prices (Ling and Lockshin 19). Knowing where a bottle of wine
comes from, what types of grape used and the reputation of its winery can help consumer have an idea
how much it worth. Wine is produced in many countries throughout the world, but only a few of
countries has developed a wine brand in order to obtain benefits from this industry (Aranda, Gomez
and Molina 2057). Therefore, building brand image is a necessary step for wineries to increase
reputation and competitiveness. Successful wineries focus on providing customer satisfaction in order
to create higher reputation.

Both South Africa and Nigeria were both colonized in the 19th century . Although both places were
separate, and their colonizations occurred at different speeds and at slightly different times the
colonizations of South Africa and Nigeria share many similarities, such as what country colonized
them, and how willing the African places were to accept the new leadership . In South Africa, the
British started by trying to take over the Zulu in the year 1816. Because they were more powerful, and
had more advanced weapons, the British were very successful in their conquests. Dutch farmers,
called Boers, began to slowly settle in South Africa. They were attracted to South Africa because there
was a lot of land on which they could establish farms. The Boers ... Show more content on

In the late 1800s, many valuable resources were discovered in southern Africa. This lead to lots of
people trying to gain control of the important and useful land found there. The Beors were not happy
with the sudden influx of people trying to gain control of their land. They put up a fight against the
invaders of their precious land. In more southern lands, the Zulus began to fight back against the
British who were controlling them. The Zulu king, King Cetshwayo, refused to accept the British rule.
The Zulu fought hard against their oppressors, and almost succeed in their goal to get their land back
from the British, despite their lack of modern weaponry. In 1879, the Zulu lost the Battle of Ulundi,
and important battle against the British. In 1887, the British finally gained complete control of the
Zulu nation. In the northern parts of South Africa, the Boers blamed their problems on the British. The

The Responsibility Of Dorm Directors
One of the number one priorities here at the college is to ensure that we are providing our students
with a safe and secure environment that is conducive for learning. At an institution that provides
Residence Halls for students, it is important to remember that the safety measures extended to those
residence halls also. According to Sokolow (2004), there are three questions that a risk manager has to
address when assessing risks, can the risk can be avoided, can the risk be transferred, or if the risk can
be accepted (p. 90). The purpose of this audit is to identify the policies and practices that are in place
that could potentially be a legal liability for the institution. In order to conduct this risk assessment, we
will utilize the three category assessment: low risk bring searches, moderate risk of personal property,
and high risk of mental health awareness and violence (Sokolow, 2004, p. 88)
Searches
Part of the responsibility of Dorm Directors is to report any illegal activity that may occur on the
premises. A possible infraction may result in a dorm director or campus police performing a search of
the room. There have been numerous complaints from students that there have been illegal searchers
of their rooms. In some of these instances, the students were not present, and those who were present
stated that they did not grant permission for officers to search. The issue with this is that in order for
searches to occur, we have to ensure that they are

toxic materials that continues to destroy our environment. She is clearly optimistic to encourage every

attacked it as misrepresenting science. It was written in 1958, Carson says that her own bitter
experience brought her attention to write a book concerning the problems our nature is facing. It took
her four years to make the book, and though she is a great writer, some magazine publishers turned her
down. These publishers feared that they might lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was mentioned in these lines, The town lay in the midst of a checkerboard of prosperous farms, with
fields of grain and hillsides of orchards where, in spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the
green field. In autumn, oak and maple and birch set up blaze of color that flamed and flickered across
a backdrop of pines. Then foxes barked in the hills and deer silently crossed the fields, half hidden in
the midst of the fall mornings. Unfortunately, this beauty didn t last long, Carson began to tell how we
are destroying nature by polluting it, Carson says, Then a strange blight crept over the area and
everything began to change. Some evil spell had settled on the community: mysterious maladies swept
the flocks of chickens; the cattle and sheep sickened and died. The evil spell she was referring to was a
symbol for pollution. Carson also said that, there were change, a change that affected our environment
negatively. These changes involves the depth of our animals, and probably, the cause of their death of
our own animals were pesticides, used to spray into the plants that they

Buffalo Soldiers Research Paper
Buffalo Soldiers were made up of former slaves, freemen and black Civil War Soldiers. Buffalo
Soldiers got their names from the Indians because of the way they looked. Their short curly hair and
their dark faces reminded Indians of buffalo. Another reason they were called Buffalo Soldiers is
because of their fierce way of fighting reminded the Indians of the way the buffalo fought. The last
reason they were called the Buffalo Soldiers was because they often wore thick coats made of buffalo
hide in the cold of winter. In 1867 there were four black regiments: the 9th and 10th Cavalry units and
the 24th and 25th Infantry units called the Buffalo Soldiers. The first black regiment to get the name

They were also keepers of law and order in general, and they were active in building roads and
military structures. One of the first black man to graduate from West Point was Henry O. Flipper. He
then became the commander of the 10th regiment at Fort Sill, which lay Indian Territory. The oldest
Buffalo Soldier ever was Mark Matthews who died on September 6, 2005. He is interred at Arlington
National Cemetery and was 111 years old. Buffalo soldiers fought in the Indian Wars which occurred
between 1622 and 1924. Buffalo Soldiers fought in the Southwest and on the Plains. Buffalo Soldiers
often distinguished themselves in spite of old horses, meager ammunition, and faulty equipment. As
settlers moved into the Southwest, the black regiments had to fight against outlaws and Apaches. In
1886, during the Apache Wars, the 10th Regiment pursued Geronimo into the Pitino Mountains of
Mexico. In addition to controlling the Indians of the Plains and Southwest, the soldiers policed cattle

Shane In The Walking Dead
The TV series makes people see the character still had somewhere to go, Kirkman is very upset over
killing Shane in volume 1 because he didn t know how popular The Walking Dead would become
nowadays. While the effect of supporting characters faded into the background in season 2, Shane was
always a special prominence of each episode. By watching the TV series, the audiences understand
why he becomes Rick s opponent as the change is step by step than in the comics. The writers make
use of this chance to explore more with Shane and the audiences get to see him spiral rapidly out of
control. For instance, at the start of season 2 Shane leaves Otis, a neighborhood of Hershel Greene, to
be killed by zombies. This scene begins his conscience into

  • 6. Social Relations Between Economic Organizations And The... 1.1 Introduction. From what process(es) does the code, the simulacrum, the object as a sign, emerge? According to Baudrillard, Symbolic Exchange is a form of exchange which both maintains and organizes divergent social relations and hierarchies [1]. The difference between Symbolic Exchange and other types of exchange, is that the value of an exchanged object does not value the act of exchanging it [1]. Fascination surrounding the dynamics of production, distribution, and consumption have been focal points in the dialogue of politics since Plato s archetypal philosophies [2]. New life was delivered into these issues in the modern world, through stringent analysis and critique by Karl Marx, within his exploration regarding the relationship between economic organizations and the distribution between power in society. Although, in spite of Marx s prediction regarding capitalism s looming collapse [3], capitalism continues to expand [4]. Jean Baudrillard s concept of Symbolic Exchange portrays a formidable role in comprehending why Karl Marx s prediction in regards to the disintegration of Capitalism has not come to fruition. Baudrillard adds to the preexisting Marxian notion of use value and exchange value proposing that, in contemporary consumer orientated society, various commodities inhibit a symbolic value which comprises their status , and thus, their power [1]. 1.2 Simulacrum, Simulation, and Sign. Baudrillard argues that our perceived social reality is merely a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Causes Of Jim Crow Laws During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion. They were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or African American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the African Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this conflict was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still slaves. White people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race, color of their skin, or culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861, the Civil War started. The main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it, depending on what side you were on (according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted slavery to keep going, but the people in the North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and four years of severe and cruel fighting the war ended. There was no more slavery, the North had won. If the South had won the war there would probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most important factor for the laws. With them losing the war, now the people of the South had political, economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Due to the fact that the South lost the war, there slaves were now free and now had political freedom. Now the African Americans could run for political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Title VII Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 First of all, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal regulation prohibiting employers from discriminating against employees based on national origin, race, sex, color, and religion (Follett, Ward, Welch, 1993). This act applies to employers with 15 or more employees and serves as a mechanism to ensure equality within the workplace (Fraley, 2013). This case is a violation of Title VII from the aspect of retaliation. • 9. 1 Corinthians Authorship The date and authorship of 1 Corinthians, in general, is highly uncontested. Most biblical scholars are comfortable setting the probable date for the writing of 1 Corinthians at 54 56 A.D. and the author as the apostle Paul. There is a lot of support in the Bible and also historical reinforcement that uphold this date and authorship for the book of 1 Corinthians. The only major area of contention in regards to the letter of 1 Corinthians is in its integrity. Some scholars would argue that the letter is a combination of multiple letters written by Paul that over time were stitched together to form 1 Corinthians, while others would propose that Paul wrote the letter over an extended period as he received new information about what was happening ... • 10. Essay on Historians Interest in Elizabeth and Her Successors Historians Interest in Elizabeth and Her Successors Elizabeth Tudor is considered by many to be the greatest monarch in English history. When she became queen in 1558, she was twenty five years old, a survivor of scandal and danger, and considered illegitimate by most Europeans. She inherited a bankrupt nation, torn by religious discord, a weakened pawn between the great powers of France and Spain. She was only the third queen to rule England in her own right; the other two examples, her cousin Lady Jane Grey and half sister Mary I, were disastrous. The complex issue of who might have been chosen as a husband for Elizabeth has greatly interested historians, as there was no shortage of candidates. However, candidates had to be approved by both Elizabeth and her council, which proved harder than they had imagined. Potential partners fell into two categories: Englishmen and foreigners. There were unfortunately drawbacks in both categories. If Elizabeth were to marry an Englishman he would be of non royal stock as there were no remaining male Tudor relations of a marriageable age. However, Mary s marriage to Philip II of Spain meant now that many at Court disliked the prospect of the Queen marrying a foreigner. Although Mary had signed a pre nuptial contract limiting Philip s powers, she was reluctant to enforce it and the common opinion was that this led to the loss of Calais. The xenophobic feelings of the council (and public) were heightened in 1554 1558 and they were determined that this situation would not arise again, where Britain would not become A satellite of the bridegroom s domains.....the new king s territories. (Keith Randell.) Some historians believe that having witnessed this situation, Elizabeth herself wished to be avoid risking the loss of control that Mary experienced (C. As a part of their representation and constant struggle for the rights of workers and their families, the Australian Council of Trade Unions has addressed the need to have family friendly policies and practices, with an emphasis on work hours, introduced into Australian workplaces under law. Although Trade Unions play a fundamental role in the provision of family friendly policies, the public sector has been known to demonstrate a higher level of acceptance and willingness towards implementing family friendly initiatives, as opposed to the private sector (Ravenswood Markey 2011, p. 500). This suggests that organisational factors have an immense impact upon the unions ability to influence workplace policies, no matter what they are in relation to. A study conducted by Ravenswood Markey (2011) demonstrated evidence that family friendly policies and the influence of a union is far more imaginable and favourable within workplaces that fall into the category of the public sector (Ravenswood Markey 2011, p. 500). For organisations to be willing and amiable in moving towards implementing family friendly policies, there first needs to be a strong union in place and the existence of collective bargaining relationships with management for this to be a possibility (Ravenswood Markey 2011 p. 501). Coming to Terms in Faith Jane Goodall s memoir with Phillip Berman, Reason for Hope talks about how a women s journey to come to terms with faith through the experiences in Tanzania. Her journey toward this goal started from her religious childhood, which led her with chimpanzees at the Gombe Forest in Tanzania. By believing in her faith into traveling to Tanzania, Jane saw the good in chimpanzees and humans and developed faith in them. When Jane was growing up, she grew up in a religious family. ADR involves resolving disputes outside of the judicial process, though the judiciary can require parties to participate in specific types of ADR, such as arbitration, for some types of conflicts. In a negotiation, there is no neutral party charged with ensuring that rules are followed, that the negotiation strategy is fair, or that the overall outcome is sound. Porter s 5 Forces Analysis Essay PORTER S 5 FORCES ANALYSIS: Overall, we found this to be an unattractive industry due to the following factors: Rivalry: The airline industry is filled with over 5000 airlines worldwide creating a considerable amount of competition. Initially, airlines would compete based on price, however, airlines such as the United Arab Emirates have begun to add unique amenities such as showers and Wifi to attract the wealthy, luxury seeking client. Moreover, despite Delta being one of the major airlines, there are over 100 airlines in the United States adding to the competitive market and allowing more choice for customers. These factors ultimately make the airline industry unattractive, both currently and in the future, as it is difficult to continue adding value that does not stem from price reductions. Threat of New Entrants: Entering the airline industry has high capital requirements and any new airline would need to develop customer trust before becoming profitable. Therefore, the threat from start up airlines is relatively low. However, private jet companies, as well as low cost carriers, are entering the market segment of Delta which contributes to this being an overall unattractive industry. As these new competitors solidify their position in Delta s market segment, this industry will remain unappealing. Slave revolts started to become a problem for plantation owners. Due to this conflict over slave revolts, specifically the Stono Rebellion, South Carolina compromised by passing the Negro Act of 1740 and other laws regarding slavery. At the time of the Stono Rebellion, Spanish Florida, a separate entity from the British colonies until 1763, became known as a safe haven for fugitive slaves (Stono Rebellion 1739). Although people have a legal right to file for divorce, it is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of a Divorce Culture , that divorce has become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s society, divorce is viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for divorce with no stigma. Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also shows reasons why couples should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final decision such as their children s consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce culture as a very serious ethical problem by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and how their children can be effected by it. Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem, people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is for their own satisfaction. We never know what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and what types of issues they are going through.
