Mastering interpretive mode 2

The translation unit can be a single word, phrase, sentence, or larger text segment. Using larger translation units increases the chance of an idiomatic translation. The notion of a translation unit is useful for relating parts of the text to the whole and looking at accountability of passages. Key functions of a translation unit are to be a syntactic bearer, information carrier, and stylistic marker. The sentence is generally considered the key functional translation unit.
Educational objectives
Educational objectives are statements that describe the changes in learner behavior desired as a result of instruction. Objectives should be written in measurable terms, be reasonable in number, and describe what learners will know or be able to do. Bloom's taxonomy classifies objectives into three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The cognitive domain involves knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The affective domain encompasses receiving, responding, valuing, organization and characterization. The psychomotor domain ranges from perception to origination and involves physical skills.
Translation as a Cognitive Activity

Catford viewed translation as unidirectional, from the source language to the target language. He examined issues like extent, meaning, language levels, and finding equivalents in the target language. Catford differentiated between full translation, where every part of the source text is replaced, and partial translation, where some parts may be left untranslated.

Design Evolution
- 1. Stephanie Wright Interpretive sign designs Goal : to inspire and encourage parents to learn more about The Daily CAFÉ literacy model and to use the strategies to help their kids become better readers. Audience : Parents who want to help their kids become better readers. Message : Help your kids become better readers.
- 4. Changes : I decided to change my picture for starters. I was going for more of an abstract picture of “CAFÉ” and lost sight of who my audience was, parents. They need something more concrete, hence the child reading. I love the “help your kids”… and kept this on all my slides, including my final design. I decided to make a list rather than a paragraph because I though it was easier to focus on. As for the “Be Inspired”, that’s how I want parents to feel, so I put it in my design.
- 6. Changes: I decided to put a title with a lot of contrast. I changed my picture too to explore different images. I kept the list of ways to “help your kids”, but added a couple more. I contrasted “be inspired” with the picture, but wasn’t too happy with how it came up. I have the same message, but am trying to connect “The Daily CAFÉ” with my sign so it doesn’t look lost.
- 8. Changes: I experimented with color on this design! I liked it, but enjoy the black, whites, and greys more. I changed my picture. I love this picture! I basically kept all of my same words, but moved them around. I would like to find another word that could be with inspired to make this design even more powerful to parents.
- 10. Changes: This is my final design. I am very happy with it and I think it really sends the message I am trying to send. I stuck with the same picture as my last design, but changed a few other things. I thought the word confident really went well with inspired, so I added that. I also used some size contrast to show the powerful words. I also changed my colors to the grey color scheme, I think it’s simple and clean. I feel like I found a way to integrate the title into the message. Overall, I’m so happy with the way this final design turned out.
