What is a Drug?
• Drugs are considered to
be such things as
stimulants, narcotics, and
hallucinogens, and often
are used in the medical
field to treat or cure
disease.
Drug and Medicine: Subtle Difference
All medicines are drugs, but reverse is not true
Drug as Medicine?
Use of a chemical
substance in prescribed
quantity as suggested by a
physician used to treat an
illness
Drug Abuse?
When a drug is used in
amplified amount or in an
illegal manner. It is a habit
forming process started
knowingly or unknowingly
but continued for the sake
of pleasure one draws out
of it. It is actually delusion
of reality and ill defined
pleasure.
Drug Addict & Dependence?
When a long use of a drug
permanently alter the function of
brain of the person and taking
drug no longer remains a
voluntary activity. In other words
person who was taking drug
becomes irresistible to the
consumption of the drug. It is a
disease, a compulsive disorder, a
psychological illusion and
weakness.
Most Abused Drugs
Major categories include:
- Alcohol
- Cannabis- Bhang, Marijuana, Ganja, Hashish/charas
- Nicotine and Tobacco
- Opiates (Heroin, Smack, Dode, Bhuki, Opium, Codeine,
Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Hydrocodone ,
Fentanyl, Methadone, inj. Buprenorphin, Morphine
Pentazocine, Pathedine, Cough Syrups, Capsules, Tablets etc.)
These are known as Smack, Brown Sugar, White Lady, "H",
Hard Stuff, Shit, China White, Dolls, Dollies, M, Big H, Black
Tar, Horse, Joy Powder, Mud.
- Depressants (Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines)
- Stimulants (Amphetamines, Cocaine)
- Psychedelics (LSD, Mescaline, Ecstasy)
How it starts
It starts as

• Curiosity
• Tradition
• Challenge
• Work stress
• Peer pressure for trial
• Measure of boldness
• Under a conspiracy
• Societal compulsion
Then aggravates

What changes occur in the victim

Maintenance drug free society.
• It’s a social campaign where everybody must participate actively
• DAPO will be volunteers, however their work will be suitably
rewarded
• All Govt. employees, elected representatives of Panchayti Raj
institutions will be ex-officio DAPO’s
• DAPO’s need to ensure their locality as drug free locality
