Drug abuse is a common problem that is ruining not only the individuals but offering a global issue. People experiment with drugs for many different reasons. Many first try drugs out of curiosity, to have a good time, because friends are doing it, or in an effort to improve athletic performance or ease another problem, such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Use doesn't automatically lead to abuse, and there is no specific level at which drug use moves from casual to problematic. It varies by individual. Addiction is less about the amount of substance consumed or the frequency, and more to do with the consequences of drug use. No matter how often or how little you’re consuming, if your drug use is causing problems in your life, at work, school, home, or in your relationship, you likely have a drug abuse or addiction problem. And if you are having this problem you are actually in trouble.

My name is Megan Johnson. My presentation is on Drug Addiction. The warning signs, Effects on the brain, and how it is possible to recover from addiction.
drug abuse- what is it? most common stimulants, cocaine abuse, aderall abuse, meth abuse, physiology of drug abuse, physical signs of drug abuse, treatment
Drug addiction is a chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that is compulsive, or difficult to control, despite harmful consequences.
Brain changes that occur over time with drug use challenge an addicted person’s self-control and interfere with their ability to resist intense urges to take drugs. This is why drug addiction is also a relapsing disease.
Relapse is the return to drug use after an attempt to stop. Relapse indicates the need for more or different treatment.
Most drugs affect the brain's reward circuit by flooding it with the chemical messenger dopamine. This overstimulation of the reward circuit causes the intensely pleasurable "high" that leads people to take a drug again and again.

We'll look at how he maintains his well-being. the health issues he has faced, and his approach to ageing .
Early Life and Career
Childhood and Athletic Beginnings
Tom Selleck was born on January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Sherman Oaks, California. From an early age, he was involved in sports, particularly basketball. which played a significant role in his physical development. His athletic pursuits continued into college. where he attended the University of Southern California (USC) on a basketball scholarship. This early involvement in sports laid a strong foundation for his physical health and disciplined lifestyle.
Transition to Acting
Selleck's transition from an athlete to an actor came with its physical demands. His first significant role in "Magnum P.I." required him to perform various stunts and maintain a fit appearance. This role, which he played from 1980 to 1988. necessitated a rigorous fitness routine to meet the show's demands. setting the stage for his long-term commitment to health and wellness.
Fitness Regimen

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection
Anti ulcer drugs and their Advance pharmacology ||
Anti-ulcer drugs are medications used to prevent and treat ulcers in the stomach and upper part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcers). These ulcers are often caused by an imbalance between stomach acid and the mucosal lining, which protects the stomach lining.
||Scope: Overview of various classes of anti-ulcer drugs, their mechanisms of action, indications, side effects, and clinical considerations.
The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS

6. What Is drug / substance
USE, MISUSE and ABUSE ?
• Drug Use: A drug when taken for medical
treatment as per the prescription of the doctor
constitutes drug use.
• Drug Misuse: When drugs are not taken as per
the direction and doses prescribed by a doctor, it
is called misuse.
7. • Drug Abuse: When an individual with or
without a prescription intentionally takes a
substance or prescription drug in an amount
or frequency other than what is intended to
treat, it is known as ‘drug abuse.’
What Is drug / substance
USE, MISUSE and ABUSE ?
8. DRUG ABUSE
• Any type of drug can be abused.
• Drugs with medical uses can be abused in the following
ways:
• Too Much: Increased dose of any drug taken without
medical advice.
• Too Often: Drug taken too frequently without medical
advice.
• Too Long: Drug is taken for an extended period of time,
longer than the prescribed.
• Wrong Use: Drug taken for reasons other than medical, or
taken without medical advice.
• Wrong Combination: If a drug is taken in combination with
11. LET’S HEAR A STORY
Rajan, and Parvez, students of Class
XII are good friends. Rajan used to
live in the hostel and once got a bad
cold and cough. The doctor
prescribed him a cough syrup. Rajan
was soon cured. When Rajan was ill,
Parvez used to visit his room
regularly to know about his health.
Once during such a visit, while Rajan was
taking his medicine he mentioned its
good taste to Parvez. Later, whenever
Parvez came to Rajan’s room, he would
taste the cough syrup and soon acquired
such a strong taste for it that he went and
bought the cough syrup for himself from
the chemist. Now he has started
consuming the syrup everyday and does
not feel comfortable if he misses it even
on one day.
12. LET’S ANALYSE THE STORY
•Whether taking cough
syrup by Rajan is use or
abuse?
•Whether taking cough
syrup by Parvez is use or
abuse?
13. LET’S ANALYSE THE STORY
•Do you think Parvez did
something wrong when he
tasted cough syrup, although
he did not need it ?
•Why does Parvez feel
uncomfortable when he
does not take cough
syrup?
14. THE FAULT PARVEZ DID
often, casual first use or experimentation
with drugs leads to addiction and
dependence that involve increasing
tolerance, development of withdrawal
symptoms and disruption of
psychological, occupational and social
functioning
15. • Addiction is a disease
that affects your brain
and behaviour
• When you’re addicted
to drugs, you can’t resist
the urge to use them, no
matter how much harm
the drugs may cause.
16. • Tolerance refers to a condition
where the user needs increasing
amount of the drug to
experience the same effect.
Smaller quantity that was
sufficient earlier becomes
ineffective, and hence the user
is forced to increase the amount
of drug intake at regular
intervals.
• Dependence the body becomes
so used to functioning under
the influence of drug that it is
not able to function normally if
17. • Withdrawal syndrome.
When the drug is
withdrawn, several
physiologic reactions
occur. This symptoms
range from mild tremors
to convulsions, severe
agitation and fits,
depending on the type of
drug abuse.
.
18.
19. WHY DO PEOPLE USE DRUG?
Lack of basic
knowledge about the
drug/ substance
effects
Curiosity and the urge
to try something new
Desire to fit in
“not able to say NO”
Low self esteem,
stress, family
problem
relatively easy
availability of
drugs
Desire to look cool
or grown up.
(Media glamorizing
substance usage)
family history of
substance abuse
Belief that drug will
help them overcome
sadness, anxiety etc
20. No one starts taking
substances with the aim of
getting addicted to them.
Very few young people
realize that
experimentation can lead
to addiction.
Attitudes related to
smoking, drinking and
substance abuse are
formed during early
adolescence, so this is an
important age to invest in
prevention efforts
21. SIGN AND SYMPTOM OF DRUG ABUSE
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS
• Reddening and puffiness of eyes,
• Running nose, congestion,
coughing.
• Pupil large or smaller than usual
• Messy appearance, lack of
cleanliness
• Drowsiness and lethargy
• Loss of appetite, significant
weight loss or gain
• Fresh numerous injection marks
on body, blood stains on clothes
22. SIGN AND SYMPTOM OF DRUG ABUSE
BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS
• Decline in performance
• Changing mood, temper tantrums,
hostility
• Loss of interest in sports and daily
routine
• Withdrawal from family environment
and non-participation in family work.
• More time spent in personal room, in
the bathroom or away from home
• Sudden lowering of grades in schools,
absenteeism
23. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
There is no harm in trying just drugs
once, because one can stop after that.
Almost all drug addicts start by trying just once.
Once the drug is taken, the user is always
amenable to further drug intake, which becomes
a part of his/her habit.
24. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
Drugs sharpen thinking and lead
to greater concentration
Drugs induce dullness and adversely affect
normal functioning of body and mind.
25. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
Will power alone can help a drug
addict stop taking drugs
Addiction transforms into a disease. which
requires medical and psychiatric treatment
26. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
Drug use makes one ‘cool’ and
better accepted by peers
It may seem that use of drugs
helps in wining more friends but this is a myth as
these peers are not true friends or well wishers.
Furthermore, over a period of time, drug
dependence makes one asocial and isolated
27. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
Drugs helps people forget their
problems.
Very often the opposite is found to be true. People
bring up forgotten problems under intoxication.
Drugs only adds on other problems
28. COMMON MYTHS RELATED TO
SUBSTANCE/ DRUG ABUSE
Drugs increase creativity and
make the user more imaginative
Drug addict loses clarity and becomes incoherent
in action.
