Contextual Interpretation Of Religion In Shakespeare s Hamlet
Contextual Interpretations Of Religion
In Shakespeare s Hamlet At the time of Shakespeare s writing The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of
Denmark (hereby referred to as Hamlet), the two most commonly practiced denominations of
Christianity in Europe were Catholicism and Protestantism. Within the play itself, Shakespeare
references the traditions and ideas of both religions freely, creating cause for debate among modern
scholars as to what part, if any, religious context plays in Hamlet. The influence of both religions is
evident; however, as Shakespeare mixes the two, difficulties arise in finding a clear interpretation of
the opposing religious contexts. The idea of Catholicism as the foremost religion in Shakespeare s
Hamlet arises as a direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period, Denmark was considered a Protestant (and more specifically, Lutheran)
nation. It has never been made clear whether or not Shakespeare intended to mirror the true to life
Denmark in his work, but the references can be easily inferred. One of the most important pieces of
evidence related to Protestantism in Hamlet is in reference to the University of Wittenberg, which
Hamlet, Horatio, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern attend during the course of the work. Wittenberg, the
city in which their university is located, is widely known as the birthplace of Protestantism and was
made famous in part by Martin Luther s Protestant Reformation and the nailing of the 95 Theses to the
door of the All Saints Church. The university itself also has significant ties to Protestantism; Martin
Luther himself was a professor at the University of Wittenberg and it was during his tenure as
Wittenberg s Doctor of Bible that Luther conceived of his famous 95 Theses. In addition, the
University of Wittenberg served as a center of the Protestant Reformation movement in Europe.
Therefore, it can be inferred that during their time at the university, Hamlet and his acquaintances
would likely have been very heavily exposed to and quite possibly even expected to serve the

Effectiveness of the Criminal Trial Process as a Means of...
The effectiveness of the criminal trial process as a means of achieving justice
The criminal trial process aims to provide justice for all those involved, while it succeeds in the
majority of cases, it effectiveness is influenced and reduced by certain factors. These include the legal
representation involved in a case and the availability of legal aid, the capacity of the jury assessing the
trial, the credibility of scientific evidence and the impact of social media on the trial process. Due to
such flaws the criminal trial process is not always an effective means of achieving justice.
There is often unfair advantages in the trial process as not all members of society have the same
access to legal representatives or availability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may also be due to the credibility of scientific evidence, for example the scientific evidence of
DNA is hard to disprove in court as members of society are made to believe through the influence of
social media that if there is DNA evidence present the accused is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
While DNA has helped solve many cases and been used in court during the criminal trial process to
prove and disprove an accused innocence it also adds to the flaws in the efficiency of the trial process.
There are cases in which the accused had been wrongfully convicted due to DNA results, such as the
case of Farah Jama where a man was wrongfully convicted of rape through the evidence of DNA
alone. Farah Jama was convicted of raping a woman in a nightclub in 2006, in 2008 before a jury he
was sentenced to six years jail by Judge Paul Lacava. Farah was found guilty of rape solely on the
basis of DNA, adding to the suggestion that the jury is persuaded by the DNA evidence. In early 2009
a solicitor took on Jamas case, asking for the retesting of the key DNA sample, the scientist who
retested the sample expressed doubts to its reliability. Jamas was later acquitted and it is highly likely
that he was convicted of a crime that never took place. This was a miscarriage of justice which raises
the question whether or not scientific

Who Killed Jonbenet Ramsey Unsolved
The Ramsey family has always been big suspects. The death of JonBenet Ramsey has confused the
world and remains unsolved. JonBenet Ramsey was in beauty pageants and she is named after her
father John Ramsey. JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered on December 26, 1996 at the age of 6
years old. She is buried by her mother who died in 2006, and her half sister Elizabeth Ramsey who
died in 1992 due to a car crash. Her parents became suspects in 1997. After research the Ramsey
family was said to be not related to the actual murderer. (JonBenet Ramsey Murder Fast Facts) When
they looked at JonBenet thoroughly, they said that she had a fractured skull possibly from a flashlight.
Was possibly assaulted, and strangled by a garrote made from one of Patsy s paint brushes. (JonBenet
Ramsey Biography) To this day no one knows who killed JonBenet, but there are multiple suspects.
The most popular suspects are: the mother, father, brother, town drifter, electrician, school teacher, and
the housekeeper. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible Suspects) ... Show more content on

This reason was because she always got upset and JonBenet when she wetted her bed. Another reason
is because it is said that sometimes Patsy Ramsey would flip a switch in a room, and slam JonBenet s
head against a hard surface. Sometimes including a bathtub or a headboard. Some investigators also
think that Patsy could have killed her daughter because the rope around JonBenet s neck was made by
a homemade garrote determined to have been fashioned out of a paintbrush taken from Patsy s paint
kit that laid near JonBenet when she was found. A very big possibility is that the letter left on the
staircase steps could have been from Patsy after realizing that she had killed JonBenet. When
investigators looked around for possible evidence they found that the pen that had been used to write
the note was from inside the house. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible

The Term s Use Of Obscene In The English-Speaking World
The word s use is considered obscene in social contexts, but is common in some informal and familiar
situations. It is unclear whether the word has always been considered vulgar, and, if not, when it first
came to be used to describe (often in an extremely angry, hostile or belligerent manner) unpleasant
circumstances or people in an intentionally offensive way, such as in the term motherfucker, one of its
more common usages in some parts of the English speaking world. In the modern English speaking
world, the word fuck is often considered highly offensive. Most English speaking countries censor it
on television and radio. Andrea Millwood Hargrave s 2000 study of the attitudes of the British public

Working My Pro Shop Assistant Job At Chisago Lakes Golf...
QUESTION Describe a time on any job that you held I which you were faced with problems or
stresses that tested your coping skills?
ANSWER A time I faced a problem with stress was when I was working my pro shop assistant job at
Chisago Lakes Golf Course. I was eighteen years old and helping my boss run a big tournament,
getting stuff ready for the tournament the day before. The morning of the tournament he hurt his back.
He came into work and could not function as well as he needed to run the tournament. I was his right
hand man that summer helping with every day things, so he put me in charge of the tournament and
running the staff to help with the tournament. So, I came into work thinking it was just another day I

QUESTION Tell me about a time when you had to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to
get a job done?
ANSWER A time I went above and beyond the call of duty to get a job done, would be when I worked
as a pro shop assistant at Chisago Lakes Golf Course. I was working the afternoon to close shift on a
Saturday night. I had made plans with my friends to hangout after my shift had ended. I was just about
to close up the shop when I had a customer call the course. He said that he had a grip, but on his golf
club by one of our staff members and he did not put it on to the pleasure that the customer had wanted
it. The customer planned on playing the next morning. I asked the customer if he would be able to
come in that night so I could get it done how he liked it before his round in the morning. He came in
that night and I regripped the club and he was grateful that I did that, when I could have just ignored
the phone and closed the shop to hang out with my friends. After he left the shop, long after I should
have been done with my shift, I wrote down his number. The next day I was working the same
afternoon to close shift. I called him later in the

Racial Identity
Introduction:
As someone who identifies as a multi racial woman, I have found that my racial location in society has
been different based on who I am around. I am of lighter skin, and I have acknowledged I am more
privileged than a woman who is darker than me. As a multi racial woman, I at times have had to make
sure I fit in based on who I was surrounded by. I am aware that in ways I do benefit from white
privilege, but in a lot of ways I am still put into the subordinate group by the dominate racial groups. I
fully became aware of my racial identity as a child, going to a predominately white elementary school.
After my encounters with some of the peers and teachers at this school, I became aware that I was
different , and for the first time not feeling fully accepted into my peer groups.
Dominant/subordinate spectrum:
As stated before I identify as a multi racial woman. I am African American, White, and Lebanese.
Racially I can fall into both subordinate and dominate groups. I am a lighter skinned, multi racial
woman, and in many ways, have been treated differently compared to those who have a darker skin
tone. Because lighter skin is viewed as more acceptable, I have been treated better by the dominant
racial group. The fact that my skin is lighter does put me at the higher end of the dominant spectrum. I
am taken more seriously, because my skin is lighter, I am more legitimate in the eyes of some.
Although my skin is lighter I am still placed into the subordinate

Historical Context Of Oppression
Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way that was very
obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got an education. Now assessing life
and some of the experiences I have had, I don t remember anyone explaining that white privilege had
that exception. With a social worker perspective it helps me understand that different cultural group
are associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in diverse ethnicities of individuals.
Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk factors associated with those identities.
One example that I have had personal experience with was racism. While striving to become a better
person and working to obtain my bachelors degree in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents
of the rural environment were uncomfortable with my identity s being African American and woman. I
often got racially profiled by police and even was called hurtful names by residents due to the color of
my skin and stereotypes. In further support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that
hierarchies continue to marginalize black people, women and immigrants. As a Social Worker it is a
part of our duty to Ethics to encourage dialogue and provide education on stereotypical biases to begin
to see change in the way that diverse groups are viewed and treated. Historical Context of Oppression

Phaedra And Theseus
I think that mostly the main characters in Greek tragedies don t deserve what happens to them, as their
fortunes have already been told by the Gods, but for some of their own actions condemned
themselves. Firstly Phaedra s feelings where controlled by a powerful and vengeful God, Phaedra had
no choice in the feelings she felt for Hippolytus, and the God had made them so strong that she could
almost not control them. She had started to starve herself out to protect her name, and the name of her
children. She would rather die and keep her name intact than succumb to her feeling and have her
name be worth less than dirt. Because of this I don t think it s anywhere near fair to say that Phaedra
deserved what had happened to her. However what she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actions might have been because of godly influence, but too much seemed to be because of his hot
headedness. We see him first acting king like, cool and rational. But quickly after he hears that
Phaedra had died he completely loses all control. He becomes very irrational and stubborn. He reads
the note which Phaedra had left, and without even a thought he accuses Hippolytus of the deed and
curses him with a curse that was given to him by Poseidon himself. He does this without a trial where
Hippolytus could defend himself. He barely lets Hippolytus explain to him on how it couldn t have
been him that had raped Phaedra, but Theseus is blind to his arguments. He questions Hippolytus piety
and his celibacy, and dismisses both as massive lies told by his son. Then when all is explained by
Artemis, he is completely surprised, and hugely regrets his actions. Hippolytus forgives him just
before he dies of his wounds done by the curse, but really Theseus is left with a dead son for no real
good reason, and for which mostly he could have changed by not cursing him. On the other hand,
Aphrodite tells us on what was to happen, and could Theseus really have changed the Gods

Violence In Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
McCarthy s novel, Blood Meridian, is an interesting story about a boy who grows up in the chaos of
the world, but unlike most authors, McCarthy, creates a more complete image of humanity. McCarthy
includes violence and barbarism as a natural part of who we are as humans. The protagonist, the kid,
grew up with a father who was a drunken teacher who did not care for him or teach him how to read
or write. The kid was not taken care of, wasn t shown love, and wasn t given love; therefore he did not
know how to care or what being taken care of was. In the very first pages of the novel, McCarthy
constructs a violent image of the kid by stating, ... in him broods already a taste for violence
(McCarthy 3). McCarthy uses this quote as a starting point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The gang and the judge seem to be killing for economic incentives and personal pleasure, which the
kid partakes in but then eventually grows out of. The kid s and the reader s attention and development
for compassion, care, or basic morality develop as McCarthy draws attention to the senseless violence
that is taking place around the kid. The kid is shown giving mercy twice in this novel, and not
celebrating the death of innocence like the other, especially the judge; McCarthy shows the judge s
submission to violence when he states, war is god (261). For me, I understood this statement from the
judge as if he was staying that war is ultimate, all powerful, or the last or fundamental level of things.
Politically I do agree that war is god. The power of coercion is ultimate and paramount to any other
for of power. For example, if I wanted a dollar from another person who did not want to give it to me,
I could try to persuade them or bribe them, but if that doesn t work, my ability to over power them,
and hurt them will ultimately force them to acquiesce. However this ideology of war is god spiritually
and mentally is detrimental to the development of compassion, care, or any kind of moral
development. This is where the audience and the kid begin to see a stark difference between
themselves and the judge. Although McCarthy doesn t reveal how the kid came about a sense of
compassion or care or the power if goodness, he does highlight the power of violence. I think that
McCarthy believes and has hope in humanity, as displayed through the moral development of the kid,
but I think he also understands and is trying to display the nature of violence that is in us even at a
young age, as if to make an argument for the necessity of compassion and a nurturing

Reliability Of The Measurement Instrument Essay
4.3 Reliability analysis To evaluate the reliability of the measurement instrument it was developed an
internal consistency analysis through Cronbach s alpha. It is an index that takes values between 0 and
1, used to verify if the instrument is reliable and performs stable and consistent measurements
(Santesmases, 2009). Cronbach s alpha estimates the lower limit of the reliability coefficient and it is
expressed through Formula 2. (2) Where k is the number of items in the test; Si2 is the items variance
(from 1...i) and S2sum is the total test variance. This means that the reliability depends on the test
length and the covariance among its items (Santesmases, 2009). It is important to mention that it was
decided to apply a pilot test to 40 customers, with the purpose of measuring the questionnaire s
internal consistency. In the first version, the test was integrated by 22 items distributed in five
dimensions and after being undergone to Cronbach s alpha validity test, the instrument was redesigned
to 20 items, as is shown in Graphic 4. Graphic 4. Items and dimensions of final questionnaire

The Effects Of Alcohol Abuse And Binge Drinking
College students will always encounter some type of problem during their college experience. A
problem can be something simple such as a lack of adequate parking or more complex such as sexual
harassment. A new report from Student Monitor asked college students to identify the biggest
problems on campus, and their top three answers were cost of education, stress, and alcohol abuse,
(Jacobs, 2014, p.1). College students will be affected by a number of problems during their college
career. As a professional in student affairs it is our duty to help students decrease their problems and
help them have a successful experience. Andrews University is experiencing one of the top three
biggest social issues on their campus, alcohol abuse and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be due to the fact that when students attend a four year college they most often are exposed
to new experiences, friends, and they may also have less parental supervision. Attending college can
be a major transition for young adults which in return can lead to trying new things such as, alcohol.
It is my job to change this social issue that has become a major problem on campus. The first step I
am going to take is make awareness of developing and enforcing alcohol campus policies. Colleges
and universities are mandated by the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989 to put into
practice a program to prevent the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students. (Marshall et
al, 2011). This is a great way to inform students about their college or university campus rules
regarding alcohol. Andrews University has policies set however, since alcohol abuse and binge
drinking is a major concern on campus, I will have to develop and reinforce these polices. When
developing and changing these policies it is important to remember to include the entire student body
as well as the surrounding community. Campuses typically have a diverse student population therefore
it is important to target approaches specifically to various groups (Anderson et al, 1997). For example,
messages and certain approaches regarding alcohol abuse will be different

In Canada, there are too many false negative results, according to Jim Wilson, President of the
Canadian Lyme disease Foundation and this standpoint is also recognized by Health Canada.
(Magnotta, 2015). The human body takes several weeks for humans to create antibodies at detectable
levels. This limits the detection of the various genotypes of the borrelia bacteria, from the procedures
used, which in effect, is allowing late stage serology to occur. According to Dr. Ralph Hawkins, who

Physicians in Canada have not been properly exposed to the symptoms of clinical Lyme disease;
therefore it has become difficult to diagnose a patient with clinical Lyme disease. Professional
organizations, such as International Lyme and associated disease society, and Lyme literate medical
doctors, have acknowledged the uncommonness of Lyme disease in Canada (Magnotta, 2015). Canada
has been highlighted with concerns of misdiagnosis and the increased cost in public health care. The
lack of research and resources in Canada, have caused physicians to dismiss the clinical symptoms of
Lyme disease, and diagnose patients with a variety of other illnesses, such as fibromyalgia, chronic

requires hospitals and clinics to do excessive amounts of testing and the patient is sent to different
specialists. These chronic illnesses are associated with bacteria, but the Canadian health system needs
to recognize that the underlying diagnoses are infections, where Lyme disease

Shinto And Buddhism Similarities
Among East Asian religions Shinto and Buddhism tend to revolve around the same sphere of life. This
concept is mostly due to Japan borrowing many religious beliefs and practices from China which led
to a synthesis between Shinto and Buddhism. However, when it comes to Shinto shrines and Buddhist
temples there are remarkable differences and similarities between their ways of worship and
appearance. When it comes to Shinto there is no historical founder, no official scriptures, and no

Banquo s Influence On Macbeth
Sometimes a thunder god can help out a mischief god. Often times throughout history and ancient
mythology, a person viewed as evil has a counter part that is viewed as good. For example, Thor, the
Norse god of weather/thunder was considered to be a good guy. However, his brother Loki, the Norse
god of mischief, was considered to be a bad guy. Thor had to help keep his brother in line throughout
their childhood because if he did not, Loki would get in trouble. Loki would go around playing tricks
on the other gods and their children. He loved making himself laugh as well as making others laugh.
However, sometimes he pushed things too far. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Banquo and
Macbeth share some qualities with Thor and Loki. Thor tried to help Loki just like Banquo tries to
help Macbeth. Banquo is a person that is seen as a leader because of his level headedness, just like
Thor was a leader among the Norse gods. Like Loki, Macbeth pushes things too far. He commits
multiple murders and lies through his teeth countless times. He even has his friend Banquo killed.

his friend murdered. He even sees Banquo s ghost and has a little fit in front of a lot of people. Seeing
Banquo s ghost has made Macbeth paranoid and question everything he does. He is not as confident as
he used to be. It is obvious that Banquo still has an impact on Macbeth even after he has died because

Descriptive Essay On My Summer Camp
My First Summer Camp
It was the last day of my first summer camp. The night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all
their gear and leaves the coast of the Puget Sound, and return to the suburbs where most of the kids in
my troop lived. This day, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great
gathering of all the patrols at camp in a large grass covered area bordering a beach and then the Puget
Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees and was overlooked by a very large cabin like
building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops in camp. The cabin like building was a dark
brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log. The inside was
very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various troops at camp.
Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the troops, so it
was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for a trophy (a
carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST PLACE). Each
troop usually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my troop (of around 25

Analysis Of `` On Political Labels `` By Christopher...
On Political Labels by Christopher Borick and Four Words That Will Decide the Election by David
Green both deal with how language is used in politics. Borick s essay is a more historical and
informative of the origins of political language and key words, while Green s essay is a game plan for
the Democrats to defeat the Republicans by using their own rhetoric against them. David Green makes
great points in his essay, but because of his left wing bias and his overall view of Republicans being
almost idiots discredit his essay. This is because of the multiple schools of thought that aren t taken
into account for in his essay. Borick s historical analysis of political terms gives the reader a greater
understanding on the rebuttals the Democrats and Republicans can use, but his overall naïve tone on
politics today makes his essay almost utopian or unrealistic. Since both essays were written before the
2012 election, they have some outdated views because of our current changing political climate. The
current political climate has made the Democratic Party is leaning more European Socialist, while the
Republican Party is being dominated by any reactionary movement that is prides itself on nationalism
and anti immigration rhetoric. On Political Labels explains the evolution of the words: liberal and
conservative. He goes into detail that back in the 19th century and early 20th century a liberal was one
that believed in less regulation and less government in your personal

Statement Of Purpose For Electronic And Computer Engineering
Robert A. Heinlein once said, One man s magic is another man s engineering. With saying I would
like to be open about myself as to why I wish to pursue electronic and computer engineering at
HKUST.Being one of the world s best places to pursue engineering for undergraduate and I am very
excited by the core curriculum. I would love a practical and research oriented course with equal
theoretical knowledge. I am expecting classes to be different from how they are back home.HKUST
has always been my dream college. Moreover, many seniors have suggested me to apply to
HKUST.Studying at HKUST is not only about the education you get there, it s a family in which I

deeply involved in making these circuits. When the circuit works, the amount of joy I get is

Present Day Protest Summary
Tufekci uses different strategies to convince her audience that present day protest, no longer has the
same effect they did before social media. She proposes this theory by stating that social media has
changed the game for protest. Tufekci gives examples of different type of protest throughout American
history to show the effect it has on society. For example, the Women March of 2017, March on
Washington of 1963, Antiwar Protest 2003, and the Tea Party protest of 2009. All these protests
impacted America in different ways. Tufekci was able to grasp her audience attention by appealing to

Post-Civil War America
Post Civil War America
The highest court in the United States (the Supreme Court) made a ruling in 1857 that Africans
(blacks) had no rights, could not become U.S citizens, and that Congress had no powers to abolish
slavery. The aftermath of the ruling saw the United States suffer one of the bloodiest wars in world
history the Civil War. In less than ten years since the ruling was made, Congress together with the
Northern states addressed the biases in the ruling. The biases were addressed through the amendment
of the constitution and the civil rights statute. Through the 13th Amendment, slavery was abolished in
all parts of the United States. The 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1866 guaranteed
citizenship for all qualified, natural born, and naturalized Americans, inclusive of former slaves and
free blacks. The civil rights statute, in addition, authorized the transfer of cases from state to federal
courts in cases where citizens rights could not be enforced through state systems of justice. The 14th
Amendment also prohibited states from infringing the rights enjoyed by American citizens, as well as,
ensuring every citizen had the right to due process and equal protection of the law (Kaczorowski,

Why You Want Your Crowdfunding Campaign
Be Realistic If You Want Your Crowdfunding Campaign to Be a Hit
Like any great food dish, a successful crowdfunding campaign requires the right mix of ingredients.
And just as a chef wouldn t expect one three egg omelete to satiate an entire night s worth of diners, a
half baked crowdfunding campaign is unlikely to lead to a windfall of millions of dollars in cash.
To start determining the right amount or a realistic amount to try to raise in a crowdfunding campaign,
an entrepreneur needs to first determine what type of crowdfunding they want to pursue. Two of the
more popular types are rewards based and equity crowdfunding, but these two styles have significant
differences.
Let s be clear... Reward and investment based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of crowdfunding are still quite new so the data is limited, but for those raising money
from ordinary investors using the $1 million cap, the average business has raised about $700,000,
according to Entrepreneur.
Prior to these allowances for equity crowdfunding, only wealthy investors were able to contribute to
these types of campaigns, which averaged a little over $400,000 per company, according to a
September 2015 article from Crowd101.
Serving a Treat with Rewards Based Crowdfunding
Rewards based crowdfunding offers an alluring alternative to equity crowdfunding because
entrepreneurs can hold onto their ownership stakes and offer contributors a reward instead. These
rewards could be anything to entice donors, such as providing the full product itself or offering a small
giveaway like a t shirt.
While this type of crowdfunding may sound sweeter, it could be more difficult to use this method as
the main source of capital.
On rewards based crowdfunding site Kickstarter, for example, the average campaign has raised a little
over $8100 dollars, and the success rate is only 36%, meaning those that don t reach their funding goal
don t receive the capital.
For those that did meet their goal, the average campaign raised just over $20,000, which is certainly a
step up but still below the levels of equity crowdfunding campaigns.

Physics of Color Vision and Color Blindness Essay
What is Color?
To understand what color is, we first need to understand what light is. Light, as perceived by humans,
is simply electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between roughly 380 nm and 740 nm.
Wavelengths below 380 nm and above 740 nm cannot be seem by the human eye. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just below 380 nm is known as ultraviolet radiation. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just above 740 nm is known as infrared radiation. The sun, black lights
and fluorescent lamps are all sources of ultraviolet light. Heat is a source of infrared radiation, which
is how thermal vision works.
Electromagnetic radiation between the wavelengths of 380 nm and 740 nm constitute light and the

Based on our current knowledge, there is no observable physical explanation (in our brains or
elsewhere) as to how a 650 nm ray of light becomes red . As it stands, there s no proof that one day
you couldn t wake up with your visible color spectrum flipped. For more information on the debate
between physics and psychological interpretation of sensory experiences, search for the term qualia .
Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)...
The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can
only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently.
The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels
of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated
and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors
used to discriminate color.
The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of
electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and
red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is
distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells

The Hebrew Bible
In the course of human history, few books have fascinated scholars to the extent of the Hebrew Bible.
This is not to say that biblical scholarship has been static. Instead, it has evolved over the course of
many centuries of scrutiny, both of preceding scholarship and the Bible itself. Scholarship relating to
the Hebrew Bible, then, is often grouped into two categories: the work of the ancient interpreters and
that of modern scholarship. Operating from two very different sets of assumptions, there are many
similarities and differences that can be found between the ways the ancient interpreters and modern
scholars read and understand the Bible. The ancient interpreters, according to Kugel, were Jews and
early Christians living and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text clearly states that if man eats of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, he will instantly
die. However, according to Genesis 5:5, Adam lived a total of 930 years. Ancient interpreters viewed
this not as a contradiction or error, but rather an instance which can be clarified by using other
passages (such as Psalm 90:4, which equates 1 day to 1000 years in the sight of the Lord.) This is
discussed in the book of Jubilees, an apocryphal work attributed to the ancient interpreters. Thus, the
ancient interpreters did not view Genesis 2:15 17 as contradictory or troubling, but rather drew upon
their foundational assumptions to aid their understanding of a text.
Modern scholars, however, have very a different understanding of the same text. Since the Bible
contains no cryptic meaning, the issue of Adam s death cannot be explained using other biblical texts.
This, then, must be an error which exists within the text. Modern scholars noticed something else,
however, which caused them to closely examine the language used in Genesis 1 3. The portrayal of
God in Genesis 1 differed greatly from the portrayal in Genesis 2 3. This led to another key difference

The Teapot Dome Scandal
The 1920s included the Jazz Age and Harlem Renaissance. During this time period African Americans
escaped racial oppression in the South by migrating to the North, this was later called the Great
Migration. African Americans sought improved life in the North, more social equality, and they
wanted better and more opportunity for employment. African Americans formally experienced the Jim
Crow laws and brutal racism in the south, such as the Ku Klux Klan that frequently killed African
Americans in order to maintain a social organization and end Radical Reconstruction. This migration
aided the creation of the New Negro Movement. This movement was designed to renew African
American culture amidst the United States. Moreover, the movement allowed for African Americans

In The Underdogs written by Mariano Azuela, the protagonist, Demetrio Macias is symbolized as the

fighting for what they felt they truly deserved, but, ironically, later becomes what he was fighting

general who destroyed villiages and killed innocent victims, he shows his compassion who helped

The Choices Made Effect The Future
After graduating high school, life actually begins. The choices made effect the future, a big choice to
make is whether to go into the military. The military force closest to civilians is the National Guard.
National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is also true.
Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when deciding a future
in the National Guard. Humans only have so long to live, time wasted is time that cannot be

Guard members serve. Since civilians do not hold drills on weekends or go to mandatory meetings
they can hold a job because their schedule is more manageable (National Guard Members Struggle to
Keep Civilian Jobs). Family is less of an issue because civilians are not withheld by a contract to leave
the state by the federal government. All of the factors point that civilians are better equipped to save
time. Civilians might be better in the department of saving time but money is a different story. During
training, National Guard forces are paid as if they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the
training is over, the money declines for reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active
members. The pay is around two hundred to three hundred dollars for reserve members, and one
thousand five hundred dollars to two thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a
month (What will I get paid). The pay of the National Guard might not be exciting, but the military
truly shines in the area of education. At a local college, such as Brigham Young University of Idaho, it
would cost around twenty one thousand dollars for schooling (GI Bill Comparison Tool). However,
the National Guard can pay for all of it if the member drills and

Monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharide. The purpose for known carbohydrates is to know
how to determine which sugar is either a monosaccharide, disaccharide, or polysaccharide by
combining the mixture with either benedict or iodine solution. The purpose for unknown substances is
to test different products to determine which kind of carbohydrates they contain. The experimental
data shows that after testing everyday foods, after soaking the food in water and adding benedict

there was an immediate, obvious change in the iodine, then the product was made of polysaccharide.
If nothing changed with either than the product had disaccharides. If there were multiple changes then
the product had a good mix of monosaccharides and polysaccharides. The result of this lab were that
monosaccharide reacts with benedict. Polysaccharide react with iodine. Lastly disaccharide reacted
with neither. Monosaccharide react with benedict because it turns orange when heated. Polysaccharide

The Metamorphosis of Achilles in Homer s The Iliad
Dr. Frost s comments: With his clear explanation, illustrative quotes, and logical organization, the
student easily proves his thesis, recapped and affirmed very well in the final paragraph.
From the first pages of Homer s The Iliad, Achilles is portrayed as vengeful, proud, and petty. As the
book progresses, the image of Achilles as a spiteful child is sharpened dramatically. Towards the end
of the epic; however, Achilles begins to exhibit qualities that are considered heroic even in today s

Even this early in the epic, it is difficult to believe Achilles would ever settle for a long life without
glory. Somewhat later in the epic; however, this is precisely what Achilles intends to do. When
Agamemnon sends an embassy to entreat the swift runner, Achilles tells them:
...two fates bear me on to the day of death. If I hold out here and lay siege to Troy, My journey home
is gone, but my glory never dies. If I voyage back to the fatherland I love, My pride, my glory dies...
True, but the life that s left me will be long, The stroke of death will not come on me quickly. (9.499
505) Achilles then proceeds to urge the rest of the Greeks to sail home and abandon the war in Troy.
Although this seems to imply that Achilles has given up his youthful brashness, he also mercilessly
insults Agamemnon in the same book. His refusal to let go of his anger and his concern for his own
future indicate a more adolescent or young adult viewpoint, rather than his previous childishness.
The three ambassadors, Odysseus, Telamonian Ajax, and Phoenix, all appeal to Achilles to release his
anger, implying that they look at him as a youth raging at worldly injustices. When Odysseus tells

  • 3. Contextual Interpretation Of Religion In Shakespeare s Hamlet Contextual Interpretations Of Religion In Shakespeare s Hamlet At the time of Shakespeare s writing The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (hereby referred to as Hamlet), the two most commonly practiced denominations of Christianity in Europe were Catholicism and Protestantism. Within the play itself, Shakespeare references the traditions and ideas of both religions freely, creating cause for debate among modern scholars as to what part, if any, religious context plays in Hamlet. The influence of both religions is evident; however, as Shakespeare mixes the two, difficulties arise in finding a clear interpretation of the opposing religious contexts. The idea of Catholicism as the foremost religion in Shakespeare s Hamlet arises as a direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time period, Denmark was considered a Protestant (and more specifically, Lutheran) nation. It has never been made clear whether or not Shakespeare intended to mirror the true to life Denmark in his work, but the references can be easily inferred. One of the most important pieces of evidence related to Protestantism in Hamlet is in reference to the University of Wittenberg, which Hamlet, Horatio, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern attend during the course of the work. Wittenberg, the city in which their university is located, is widely known as the birthplace of Protestantism and was made famous in part by Martin Luther s Protestant Reformation and the nailing of the 95 Theses to the door of the All Saints Church. The university itself also has significant ties to Protestantism; Martin Luther himself was a professor at the University of Wittenberg and it was during his tenure as Wittenberg s Doctor of Bible that Luther conceived of his famous 95 Theses. In addition, the University of Wittenberg served as a center of the Protestant Reformation movement in Europe. Therefore, it can be inferred that during their time at the university, Hamlet and his acquaintances would likely have been very heavily exposed to and quite possibly even expected to serve the Protestant ... • 4. Effectiveness of the Criminal Trial Process as a Means of... The effectiveness of the criminal trial process as a means of achieving justice The criminal trial process aims to provide justice for all those involved, while it succeeds in the majority of cases, it effectiveness is influenced and reduced by certain factors. These include the legal representation involved in a case and the availability of legal aid, the capacity of the jury assessing the trial, the credibility of scientific evidence and the impact of social media on the trial process. Due to such flaws the criminal trial process is not always an effective means of achieving justice. There is often unfair advantages in the trial process as not all members of society have the same access to legal representatives or availability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may also be due to the credibility of scientific evidence, for example the scientific evidence of DNA is hard to disprove in court as members of society are made to believe through the influence of social media that if there is DNA evidence present the accused is guilty beyond reasonable doubt. While DNA has helped solve many cases and been used in court during the criminal trial process to prove and disprove an accused innocence it also adds to the flaws in the efficiency of the trial process. There are cases in which the accused had been wrongfully convicted due to DNA results, such as the case of Farah Jama where a man was wrongfully convicted of rape through the evidence of DNA alone. Farah Jama was convicted of raping a woman in a nightclub in 2006, in 2008 before a jury he was sentenced to six years jail by Judge Paul Lacava. Farah was found guilty of rape solely on the basis of DNA, adding to the suggestion that the jury is persuaded by the DNA evidence. In early 2009 a solicitor took on Jamas case, asking for the retesting of the key DNA sample, the scientist who retested the sample expressed doubts to its reliability. Jamas was later acquitted and it is highly likely that he was convicted of a crime that never took place. This was a miscarriage of justice which raises the question whether or not scientific ... • 5. Who Killed Jonbenet Ramsey Unsolved The Ramsey family has always been big suspects. The death of JonBenet Ramsey has confused the world and remains unsolved. JonBenet Ramsey was in beauty pageants and she is named after her father John Ramsey. JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered on December 26, 1996 at the age of 6 years old. She is buried by her mother who died in 2006, and her half sister Elizabeth Ramsey who died in 1992 due to a car crash. Her parents became suspects in 1997. After research the Ramsey family was said to be not related to the actual murderer. (JonBenet Ramsey Murder Fast Facts) When they looked at JonBenet thoroughly, they said that she had a fractured skull possibly from a flashlight. Was possibly assaulted, and strangled by a garrote made from one of Patsy s paint brushes. (JonBenet Ramsey Biography) To this day no one knows who killed JonBenet, but there are multiple suspects. The most popular suspects are: the mother, father, brother, town drifter, electrician, school teacher, and the housekeeper. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible Suspects) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reason was because she always got upset and JonBenet when she wetted her bed. Another reason is because it is said that sometimes Patsy Ramsey would flip a switch in a room, and slam JonBenet s head against a hard surface. Sometimes including a bathtub or a headboard. Some investigators also think that Patsy could have killed her daughter because the rope around JonBenet s neck was made by a homemade garrote determined to have been fashioned out of a paintbrush taken from Patsy s paint kit that laid near JonBenet when she was found. A very big possibility is that the letter left on the staircase steps could have been from Patsy after realizing that she had killed JonBenet. When investigators looked around for possible evidence they found that the pen that had been used to write the note was from inside the house. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible ... • 6. The Term s Use Of Obscene In The English-Speaking World The word s use is considered obscene in social contexts, but is common in some informal and familiar situations. ANSWER A time I went above and beyond the call of duty to get a job done, would be when I worked as a pro shop assistant at Chisago Lakes Golf Course. I was working the afternoon to close shift on a Saturday night. I had made plans with my friends to hangout after my shift had ended. He came in that night and I regripped the club and he was grateful that I did that, when I could have just ignored the phone and closed the shop to hang out with my friends. • 8. Racial Identity Introduction: As someone who identifies as a multi racial woman, I have found that my racial location in society has been different based on who I am around. I am of lighter skin, and I have acknowledged I am more privileged than a woman who is darker than me. As a multi racial woman, I at times have had to make sure I fit in based on who I was surrounded by. I am aware that in ways I do benefit from white privilege, but in a lot of ways I am still put into the subordinate group by the dominate racial groups. I fully became aware of my racial identity as a child, going to a predominately white elementary school. After my encounters with some of the peers and teachers at this school, I became aware that I was different , and for the first time not feeling fully accepted into my peer groups. Dominant/subordinate spectrum: As stated before I identify as a multi racial woman. I am African American, White, and Lebanese. Racially I can fall into both subordinate and dominate groups. I am a lighter skinned, multi racial woman, and in many ways, have been treated differently compared to those who have a darker skin tone. Because lighter skin is viewed as more acceptable, I have been treated better by the dominant racial group. The fact that my skin is lighter does put me at the higher end of the dominant spectrum. I am taken more seriously, because my skin is lighter, I am more legitimate in the eyes of some. Although my skin is lighter I am still placed into the subordinate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Historical Context Of Oppression Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way that was very obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got an education. Now assessing life and some of the experiences I have had, I don t remember anyone explaining that white privilege had that exception. With a social worker perspective it helps me understand that different cultural group are associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in diverse ethnicities of individuals. Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk factors associated with those identities. One example that I have had personal experience with was racism. While striving to become a better person and working to obtain my bachelors degree in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents of the rural environment were uncomfortable with my identity s being African American and woman. I often got racially profiled by police and even was called hurtful names by residents due to the color of my skin and stereotypes. In further support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that hierarchies continue to marginalize black people, women and immigrants. As a Social Worker it is a part of our duty to Ethics to encourage dialogue and provide education on stereotypical biases to begin to see change in the way that diverse groups are viewed and treated. Phaedra And Theseus I think that mostly the main characters in Greek tragedies don t deserve what happens to them, as their fortunes have already been told by the Gods, but for some of their own actions condemned themselves. Firstly Phaedra s feelings where controlled by a powerful and vengeful God, Phaedra had no choice in the feelings she felt for Hippolytus, and the God had made them so strong that she could almost not control them. She had started to starve herself out to protect her name, and the name of her children. • 13. Violence In Mccarthy s Blood Meridian McCarthy s novel, Blood Meridian, is an interesting story about a boy who grows up in the chaos of the world, but unlike most authors, McCarthy, creates a more complete image of humanity. McCarthy includes violence and barbarism as a natural part of who we are as humans. The protagonist, the kid, grew up with a father who was a drunken teacher who did not care for him or teach him how to read or write. The kid was not taken care of, wasn t shown love, and wasn t given love; therefore he did not know how to care or what being taken care of was. The kid s and the reader s attention and development for compassion, care, or basic morality develop as McCarthy draws attention to the senseless violence that is taking place around the kid. The kid is shown giving mercy twice in this novel, and not celebrating the death of innocence like the other, especially the judge; McCarthy shows the judge s submission to violence when he states, war is god (261). For me, I understood this statement from the judge as if he was staying that war is ultimate, all powerful, or the last or fundamental level of things. Politically I do agree that war is god. The power of coercion is ultimate and paramount to any other for of power. For example, if I wanted a dollar from another person who did not want to give it to me, I could try to persuade them or bribe them, but if that doesn t work, my ability to over power them, and hurt them will ultimately force them to acquiesce. However this ideology of war is god spiritually and mentally is detrimental to the development of compassion, care, or any kind of moral development. This is where the audience and the kid begin to see a stark difference between themselves and the judge. Although McCarthy doesn t reveal how the kid came about a sense of compassion or care or the power if goodness, he does highlight the power of violence. I think that McCarthy believes and has hope in humanity, as displayed through the moral development of the kid, but I think he also understands and is trying to display the nature of violence that is in us even at a young age, as if to make an argument for the necessity of compassion and a nurturing ... Reliability Of The Measurement Instrument Essay 4.3 Reliability analysis To evaluate the reliability of the measurement instrument it was developed an internal consistency analysis through Cronbach s alpha. It is an index that takes values between 0 and 1, used to verify if the instrument is reliable and performs stable and consistent measurements (Santesmases, 2009). Cronbach s alpha estimates the lower limit of the reliability coefficient and it is expressed through Formula 2. This means that the reliability depends on the test length and the covariance among its items (Santesmases, 2009). It is important to mention that it was decided to apply a pilot test to 40 customers, with the purpose of measuring the questionnaire s internal consistency. It is my job to change this social issue that has become a major problem on campus. The first step I am going to take is make awareness of developing and enforcing alcohol campus policies. Colleges and universities are mandated by the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989 to put into practice a program to prevent the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students. (Marshall et al, 2011). This is a great way to inform students about their college or university campus rules regarding alcohol. The night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear and leaves the coast of the Puget Sound, and return to the suburbs where most of the kids in my troop lived. This day, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols at camp in a large grass covered area bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees and was overlooked by a very large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops in camp. The cabin like building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log. The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST PLACE). Each troop usually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my troop (of around 25 people) had two. Borick s essay is a more historical and informative of the origins of political language and key words, while Green s essay is a game plan for the Democrats to defeat the Republicans by using their own rhetoric against them. Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)... The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently. The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors used to discriminate color. The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the short story The Scarlet Ibis written by James Hurst. Two brothers Doodle and Brother shared many spontaneous, exciting, and fun filled adventures together, Brother showed Doodle many wonderful things. The actions of Brother, the adventures and sights they shared had a positive effect on Doodles life. One of the many things Brother showed Doodle was Old Women Swamp. Doodle was amazed when he had first seen the swamp, it was the first time Doodle had seen anything so beautiful, and the first time he had been anywhere besides their home porch. Doodle was so taken back by all the beautiful colors and different plants he had seen, that he had started to cry tears of joy. In the quote Doodle was my brother and he was going to cling to me, forever, no matter what I did. • 29. The Hebrew Bible In the course of human history, few books have fascinated scholars to the extent of the Hebrew Bible. This is not to say that biblical scholarship has been static. Instead, it has evolved over the course of many centuries of scrutiny, both of preceding scholarship and the Bible itself. Scholarship relating to the Hebrew Bible, then, is often grouped into two categories: the work of the ancient interpreters and that of modern scholarship. Operating from two very different sets of assumptions, there are many similarities and differences that can be found between the ways the ancient interpreters and modern scholars read and understand the Bible. The ancient interpreters, according to Kugel, were Jews and early Christians living and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text clearly states that if man eats of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, he will instantly die. However, according to Genesis 5:5, Adam lived a total of 930 years. Ancient interpreters viewed this not as a contradiction or error, but rather an instance which can be clarified by using other passages (such as Psalm 90:4, which equates 1 day to 1000 years in the sight of the Lord.) This is discussed in the book of Jubilees, an apocryphal work attributed to the ancient interpreters. Thus, the ancient interpreters did not view Genesis 2:15 17 as contradictory or troubling, but rather drew upon their foundational assumptions to aid their understanding of a text. Modern scholars, however, have very a different understanding of the same text. Since the Bible contains no cryptic meaning, the issue of Adam s death cannot be explained using other biblical texts. This, then, must be an error which exists within the text. Modern scholars noticed something else, however, which caused them to closely examine the language used in Genesis 1 3. The portrayal of God in Genesis 1 differed greatly from the portrayal in Genesis 2 3. This led to another key difference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time period African Americans escaped racial oppression in the South by migrating to the North, this was later called the Great Migration. African Americans formally experienced the Jim Crow laws and brutal racism in the south, such as the Ku Klux Klan that frequently killed African Americans in order to maintain a social organization and end Radical Reconstruction. This migration aided the creation of the New Negro Movement. This movement was designed to renew African American culture amidst the United States. The military force closest to civilians is the National Guard. National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is also true. Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when deciding a future in the National Guard. Since civilians do not hold drills on weekends or go to mandatory meetings they can hold a job because their schedule is more manageable (National Guard Members Struggle to Keep Civilian Jobs). Family is less of an issue because civilians are not withheld by a contract to leave the state by the federal government. All of the factors point that civilians are better equipped to save time. Civilians might be better in the department of saving time but money is a different story. During training, National Guard forces are paid as if they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the training is over, the money declines for reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active members. The pay is around two hundred to three hundred dollars for reserve members, and one thousand five hundred dollars to two thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a month (What will I get paid). In the film, the story takes place on a small private island off of Washington where Nicholas Cage s character, Edward Malus, is looking for his daughter who had vanished. It is filled with twists and turns throughout the film, making it interesting and entertaining. I felt as if the film was well made and had a different storyboard compared to traditional thriller mysteries. He later receives a letter from his ex fiancé, Willow, telling him that her daughter, Rowan, (later finding she was his child) has gone missing and asks him for his help to find her. After arriving to the small secluded island, he meets some of the local residents and starts to have bad feelings about whole community, especially when they were not being helpful. From the first pages of Homer s The Iliad, Achilles is portrayed as vengeful, proud, and petty. As the book progresses, the image of Achilles as a spiteful child is sharpened dramatically. (9.499 505) Achilles then proceeds to urge the rest of the Greeks to sail home and abandon the war in Troy. Although this seems to imply that Achilles has given up his youthful brashness, he also mercilessly insults Agamemnon in the same book. His refusal to let go of his anger and his concern for his own future indicate a more adolescent or young adult viewpoint, rather than his previous childishness. The three ambassadors, Odysseus, Telamonian Ajax, and Phoenix, all appeal to Achilles to release his anger, implying that they look at him as a youth raging at worldly injustices.
