The Dispute Over The South China Sea Essay
The dispute over the South China Sea denotes the process of power rebalancing while China rising as
a hegemony in East Asia. China craves for more resources and power and decides to effectuate that by
controlling more maritime territory. This act impelled the United State to align with the Philippines to
balance with China. In a realism world, U.S. has adequate reason to intervene for fear for China
becoming too strong a power. Realism assumes that under a balance of power, the overriding aim of
all states is to maximize power and become the only hegemony in the system. States only help
themselves in the anarchic international system. Therefore, China s rise is regarded as a disconcerting
threat to the U.S. s primacy of power in the present international stage. The power shift in East Asia is
creating security dilemmas; the U.S. thus demands more security to its Asian allies including
Philippines, Japan and South Korea. The rapidly rising Chinese power would inevitably challenge the
current international balance of power and appear aggressively in the eyes of weaker power such as
the Philippines. Therefore it seeks help to its ally, the U.S., to counterbalance the power of China.
China intends to gain more resources and to transform current international order to its favor
according to its national interests. The 2010 Chinese White Paper on National Defence states that:
Contradictions continue to surface between developed and developing countries and between

Spanish Futbol Essay
As human beings grow up we begin to develop interests in certain things. Hobbies are a big part of our
lives, it normally is a past time that allows us to unwind and relax, forget about our everyday
problems. It gives us something to enjoy doing. Hobbies can range from many different activities,
whether it is knitting, reading a book, surfing, running, shopping, painting and so forth. There are so
many different types of activities that one can do. These hobbies are usually done on a casual basis;
there is no obligation to do them. However one hobby that is not taken lightly is the love of Spanish
futbol. Now this is a hobby that is taken very seriously, we are talking about a sport that can be
compared to a religion that is how closely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now when we talk about futbol there are so many different levels and divisions, the main level I plan
to focus on is La Liga, which is the highest division in Spanish futbol. The one that follows is La
Segunda Division¸but peoples main focus is La Primera Division because the best of the best play in
this division. As well this is where most of the fuel to the fire is, especially with the rivalry between
Real Madrid and Barcelona. The game becomes much more intense when these two teams are even
mentioned.
In order to grasp a full understanding of the phenomenon with Spanish futbol and La Liga we need to
have some back ground knowledge of how it came to be. A man by the name of Jose Maria Acha first
proposed the idea of Spain having a national futbol team. After much debate of how many teams there
were going to be in La Liga, they came to the agreement that there would be ten, and in 1929 the
Primera Division was established. La Primera Liga is like royalty in futbol, they are the best of the
best futbolistas, and not anyone can be a part of this division. The success of La Liga is all due to the
biggest rivals in soccer history, Real Madrid and F.C. Barcelona who are basically the biggest and
most successful teams in La Primera Division. Both these teams were founding members and have
never been de ranked to Segunda Division. Due to the fact that these teams have been at war for over
eighty years shows us that the spirit of futbol has been

Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through the
similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of God and
Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good and evil, and
choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal with these things
with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon.
The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam
and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best lamb,
while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain becomes
infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage.
Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is?
No, I don t, said Cal. . . .
He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he?
How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410)
This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain
that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel is
missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam and
Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements Cal and
Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of

Terrorism and Riots in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is known for its humor, its accent, beautiful green hills, and their weather. Although
Ireland seems peaceful, more violence happens in the north then you would think. There is terrorism
and riots by the IRA used to prevent the British Catholics from trying to change the island of Ireland
to a catholic country. All this violence started with the Act of Union over 200 years ago.
In Ireland and Great Britain in 1801, the British and Irish governments passed the Act of Union,
combining Ireland and England. During the next two hundred years the islands of Ireland and Great
Britain will change with war, terrorism, and riots in Northern Ireland. During the mid 1800 s the Irish
potato famine broke out, more than one million died and more than two million were displaced.
In 1914 World War One began and British Parliament passed laws making Ireland partially free. Two
years later on Easter Sunday a giant revolt happens that would later be named Easter Rising .
In 1945 World War Two ended. Eleven years after the Second World War ended the Irish Republican
Army, a paramilitary group, began. The IRA formed after a suppressed rebellion fought for
independence. Ireland was split in two parts and twenty six counties. During the 20 year period after
the beginning of the IRA, there had been no stop to the violence. This time will be forever known as
The Troubles.
The Troubles mark a time in which the IRA, PIRA (Provisional Irish Republican Army), and RIRA

Essay on Freedom of the Press
Freedom of the press is part of the five main freedoms represented in the first amendment of the
constitution of the United States. The constitution was ratified in 1791 putting freedom of the press in
full development. Since then many cases have evolved with this freedom, and the freedom had some
role of developing future amendments and technology in modern day. Freedom of the press had a
history even before its ratification, it helped to solve many court cases, and is used throughout modern
times. First of all, this is the definition of freedom of the press from lawbrain.com. Freedom of the

(Illinoisfirstamendmentcenter.com). This showed that Adams was proud of what he accomplished but
also saw the power of the press and how people can get manipulated by the press. Before this
newspapers never included criticism and topics against the government. Newspapers played a critical
role after the American Revolution. Journalists criticized the Articles of Confederation and showed
how worthless the American dollar was. Even though the Freedom of the Press was issued in the
constitution, it was soon shut down with the implement of Sedition Act of 1798. Restrictions on the
press were put in place. It was illegal, to write, print, utter or publish, or cause it to be done, or assist
in it, any false, scandalous, and malicious writing against the government of the United States
(constitution.org). Many people disliked it and the Sedition Act was pronounced unconstitutional in
1832. This was the beginning of the Fourth Estate which means the press watching over the
government like a watchdog. As the 19th century progressed the biggest focus of the news was
politics. Slavery, presidential elections, the suffrage movement, temperance, free education and
foreign policy were news and started social change with so many national issues. Soon after pictures

According to Klinge Klinge (1983), German Expressionism is a creative movement that originated in
Germany in the 1920s, before the First World War which consist of many different creative media
such as visual art, literature, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, as well as the cinema because the
world of cinema is also impacted by it. German expressionism is generally defined as the rejection of
Western conventions, and the depiction of reality that is widely distorted for emotional effect. In that
period, it s visual style and themes portrays the social and personal strike felt in Germany. Artists

Furthermore, the direct effect of film producers that relocated from Germany to Hollywood
advancements in style and technique which were initiated through Expressionism in Germany inspired
modern filmmakers from outside Germany and were integrated into their movies and into the
framework of international cinema from the 1930s forward. This influence can be seen in the rest of
Hitchcock s career. Hitchcock`s third movie, The Lodger , was greatly impacted by German
Expressionism which extends to lighting techniques, set designs, and trick camera work to the British
public against the desires of his studio. Films made by Hitchcock has in its turn impacted many other
film producers and so he has been one of the vehicles that spurred German Expressionist techniques

How Did Christian Teachings Affect The Creation Of Human...
To what extend did Christian teachings affect the creation of human rights
Human rights are basic to humanity. They are supposed apply to all people everywhere. Though in our
modern society, we acknowledge the importance of human rights, it took a long time for mankind to
set down the human rights that we all deserve and to reach to where we are now. In this essay, the
focus will be on how much Christian teachings and traditions influenced the creation of human rights.
It s possible to see the influence based on different written laws made toward creation of equal rights.
Such as, the US s Declaration of Independence , the French Declaration of the Rights of Man or the
UN s Declaration of the Human Rights. Christianity s biblical notions support many of the articles
found in those declarations. Christian teachings had an overall significant impact on the development
of modern human right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bible says that man is created according to the image of God, thus, the murder of another man is
of the highest offense. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the
image of God, has God made man . The Mosaic Law also continues to give a lot of examples on how
God expects us to treat each other humanely. Ten Commandments also forbids murder, stealing,
adultery, lying and crave certain things. These rules help us treat each other morally and equally. Other
examples would be to treat immigrants well (Exodus 22:21; Leviticus 19:33 34), help the poor with
their needs (Leviticus 19:10; Deuteronomy 15:7 8), specifically give loans to the poor with no
interests (Exodus 22:25) and to allow indentured servants to retire after 50 years (Leviticus

ECON 4
Government intervention:
Government intervention are actions that interferes with the different activities or decisions made by
the individuals or the organizations in a market in hopes to correct market failures and promote
welfare. This method is usually a good way to organize market activity. When the government chooses
to intervene, it aims at a variety of political or economic priorities, such as better economic growth,
increasing employment, raising wages, raising or reducing prices, better income equality, more profits,
or fixing market failures. The government could only intervene when needed. However, this does not
always work because the government can fail too and it is bureaucratic. Whatever changes in the ...

Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle Tale
Once I read the Norton Anthology section as well as the Washington Irving introduction. I learned a
lot about Mr. Irving, In addition to the romantic literature. Such as the writers of this time being
engaged with certain conflicts and the concerns of the time. Mr. Washington Irving being one of five
most important namely writers. However out of the selection of writings, I am going to analyze the
Rip Van Winkle tale.
This tale was found in papers belonging to a Diedrich Knickerbocker. He was a man with curiosity in
the province of the Dutch. And how the primitive settlers behaved. Although his resources did not
come from books, but from men themselves. Even still his researches resulted in accuracy and has
been established as a history of the Dutch governors province. There really is no questions about the
writings now. And are now historical collections. Yet still his mistakes are not remembered with anger
but sorrow. This is because he never meant to offend one, and this makes his critics appreciate it.

After Marvin Wolfgang s research, many see the point of the idea of the three strike system, only
severely punishing criminals after their third felony. California, who was one of the first states to
adopt this law, saw their crime rate significantly drop within a decade. Since then many other states
have adopted the same system. The theorists in today s society are deciding that we should resort to
deterrence, and rational punishment as opposed rehabilitation. We are resorting the ideas of James. Q.
Wilson, who believes that deviants know that if they re caught they will be punished. This is Wilson s
new realism (Images of Deviance and Social Control 84). Even more prevalent though, in today s
society is the pathological perspective. A large amount of medical discoveries are being made today to
help prevent, or control diseases. People are starting to become more and more comfortable with the
idea of the pathological perspective. One of the most recent findings is hyperkinesis. A child who
experiences symptoms such as hyperactivity (excessive motor activity), short attention span, and
restless or fidgety behavior is to be diseased rather than bad (Images of Deviance and Social Control

being funded in order to find the causes to deviance. The pathological perspective is the most accepted
theory for deviance today. Deviance

Rome And Persia Comparative Essay
Persia and Rome were epicenters for trade, military power, and agricultural prowess. The social and
economic structure of Persia and Rome, during their rise and falls, placed a heavy emphasis on
warrior status, the agricultural community, religion, and established trade routes. Both societies were
very unique in how they did business with their people and other empires. During Rome s rise their
social structure was based on military merit and/or the wealth of their farm land. During Persia s rise
their social structure was based largely upon military status and their role in religious affairs. If one
was a priest in the Persian empire then they were higher than a soldier. However, the social and
economic structures of both empires were very different during the rise and fall. Rome and Persia had
a warrior status based class system during their rise. However, they had a very different system during
their fall. A military leader was held very high up in society in Persia, however the priest were held
even higher. The ways that a soldier or a noble would move up the social ladder would be if they

Romeo and Juliet have been wounded but by Cupid s arrow, which have made them fall in love. Friar
Laurence tell Romeo to speak plainly and simply. If Romeo does not clearly say how he has sinned,
then the friar cannot clearly accept Romeo s confession and clear Romeo s soul. Romeo says that the
friar should plainly know that Romeo has fallen in love with Lord Capulet s daughter and she loves
him back. The friar must marry them to each other. Romeo promises to tell the friar about how he and
Juliet fell in love, but now says Romeo ... This I pray : That thou consent to marry us today. The friar
cannot believe what he is hearing. he asks Romeo how Romeo could so suddenly have changed from
loving Rosaline to loving Juliet. The friar says that young men love with their eyes, not their hearts.
Friar Laurence says that Romeo washed his face with many tears crying for Rosaline. Romeo wasted
salt on a love never tasted. The friar says the sun has not even had time to evaporate Romeo s sighs

Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln
What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so significant? How
will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported the Civil war as he felt
that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even though the states had the right
to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and he grew up with a family that
attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on
African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters, white men. The most significant truth I
learned from Killing Lincoln was that there are horrible people from all walks of life; however, blind
hatred should not be condoned. Blind hatred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln while he was unarmed and sitting next to his wife
watching a play. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a conscience, but to
others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil War, he was a martyr for
their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was essentially over, Booth killed because
he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers. He did not murder to satisfy a sick
perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth went to church, he was well educated, he
was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of someone who should not have been a felon, but he
was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he fervently supported his opinions, which is not
necessarily an evil action, but with freedom comes the potential for great actions of differing morals.
He was politically motivated to assassinate Lincoln, he was not insane. He believed that the best
country in the world was the United States before the Civil War, and like Lincoln did with his
presidency and the Emancipation Proclamation, he made great efforts to enact changes in radical
ways. However, I believe that the killing of another human

Saint Augustine s Confessions And The City Of God
Saint Augustine (354 430 C.E.) is often considered the greatest of all Christianity s founders. His
theology is vital to the doctrine of the clinical church and years yet to come. His abilities as a preacher
and commentator brought about his fast development in the church hierarchy to come the bishop of
Hippo in northern Africa. Saint Augustine best regarded works are his autobiographical Confessions
and The city of God. These two writings deliver a Christian interpretation to events and reasoning to
slavery. In 410 A.D., Alaric and his Goths sacked or raided Rome. Many blamed Christianity for
Rome s fall. People would suggest that the pagan gods were irritated due to the fact Christianity had
been promoted through the empire. Augustine s wrote The City of God as a response to people who
believed that. The point Augustine made when regarding to the sack of Rome is that the city s own
lust of domination, claiming territory and enslaving other nations, led to their own domination. He
pointed out that the barbarian invaders had spared most of the churches and that even pagans had
taken refuge in the Christian churches. This sheds a positive light on the sack of Rome, claiming that
many of its enemies received redemption and became useful citizens of the city. Essentially he thought
that, Rome was sacrificed so that the influence of God could be spread among the city s enemies. He
also believed that those who blame Christ for disasters but not for the benefits they have

Historical And Cultural Context In The Great Gatsby By F....
Contexts often help readers to understand and perceive the text the way it was intended by the author
to be perceived. When studying any piece of literature, it is important that there is a basic
understanding of historical and cultural contexts since it plays a crucial part in enhancing the reader s
interpretation or reading of the text. A reader s knowledge and understanding of historical and cultural
contexts can influence and enhance their interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald s famous classic novel,
The Great Gatsby. A basic understanding of American historical and cultural contexts such as the
Prohibition era, the Jazz Age, Cornelius Vanderbilt and the American Dream, allows a reader to

Understanding the Prohibition era, the prosperity it brought, and it s effects on the American society
during the 1920s enhances my interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Having knowledge about the
Prohibition era allows me to experience the novel through a lens that shows how Fitzgerald portrayed
the 1920s as a time of decayed values. The Prohibition era, dated between mid 1920 to early 1933,
was period in American history when the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors
were banned and forbidden because of the increase in violence and illegal activities. During the
Prohibition, there was a sudden rise in capitalism through illegal sale and production of liquor, which
is known as bootlegging . The character of Jay Gatsby is an example of how Fitzgerald depicted the
decayed values of the 1920s. In the novel, Tom Buchanan accused Gatsby of having little stunts in his
drug stores , he was adamant that Gatsby sold grain alcohol over the counter arguing that its probably
where all of his wealth came from and picked him for a bootlegger (page 109).

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to
portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of
the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple
butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When
looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the
supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is
an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to
understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was
like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The
latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people
knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had
lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life.
Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and
downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook
beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another

hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although

Gametogenesis Lab Report
1. Introduction
Gametogenesis refers to the production of haploid sex cells within an organism. The haploid sex cells
are composed of half of the genetic material of that from the germ line of the parents. The process of
gametogenesis could not take place without two specific organs, the ovary and the testis. These two
organs, the gonads, are composed of germ cells where meiosis occurs. Meiosis is the method that
makes the germ cells haploid. In both males and females, this phenomenon can be observed. In males,
the genetic material is passed to offspring through a process known as spermatogenesis, and in
females genetic material is passed to offspring through the process of oogenesis. However, these two

Illegal Immigration Reform

Post the Civil Rights movements in the United States it is visible the upswing in wars; it went form

is much confusion as to how immigration law works in reality. Most people get confused thinking that
because United States is a country built of Immigrants however immigrants have experienced

The first, Illegal Immigration Reform Responsibility Act passed in 1996 by president Bill Clinton,
which covers many aspects of immigration, and the responsibilities placed upon those enforcing the
law as well as immigrants. Basically, this act addresses border patrol and its process. The anti terrorist
and the effective terrorist act became a huge step forward to continue the fight against terrorism.
However, this law endangers democracy by creating an authoritarian style of government. Moreover,
the Patriots act signed by president W. Bush in 2001, this act is an antiterrorist law enacted by
congress as a response to the 911, terrorist attack. These policies are very different from previous
policies because they impact families drastically. In other words, those policies contribute to the
destruction of families. There are many ways to get deported for example: visa expiration, fail to
renew for green card, crimes acts, and traffic violations. The National Origin act passed in 1924 it is a

Casteist View On Casteism
Being casteist and being Christian is an oxymoronic statement, however, it is a heinous reality in the
Indian Church. Even though theologically, Caste and the Church do not go together, casteism is a
dominant discourse, a guiding force, and a potent reality in the Indian Church. Patrick Gnanapragasm
observes that, In some quarters, sadly, Christian identity and caste identity seem to converge and play
a casteist role, which is avowedly anti Christian. Caste is a dominant discourse, which discriminates
and marginalizes people on the basis of their birth. Oxford dictionary defines casteism as adherence to
a caste and prejudice or discriminations on the grounds of caste.
The category of being Christian and being Casteist does not sync together, however, casteism is an
atrocious reality in the Indian Church. Even though officially the Indian Church condemns casteism, it
permeates in the functional realms of the Church. One can observe the discriminations and

The Legendary Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe s legend remains as the ultimate blonde bombshell and as one of the most
recognizable faces ever to grace the silver screen. Born June 1, 1926 she was baptized Norma Jean
Baker. Her turbulent youth was due to an absentee father and a mentally unstable mother. By 1933 she
went to live with her mother s best friend, Grace McKee, and she was the first to give Norma Jean the
idea of becoming a movie star.
Despite her new found love of cinema and hollywood celebrities, her childhood continued to be
chaotic. After 1935 she moved through a number of foster homes, and she was even sexually abused.
At the end of 1942 Norma Jean married her first husband James Dougherty While he was overseas
fighting in World War II, Norma Jean got a factory job. Soon after a photograph of her at work
appeared in a military magazine and she began her modeling career.
She became a sought after model and her success caught the attention of an executive at 20th Century
Fox. He helped make Norma Jean a star by altering her appearance and changing her name to prepare
her for Hollywood. Marilyn Monroe was chosen as her name because of her resemblance to Broadway
actress Marilyn Miller and because Monroe had been her mother s maiden name.
Her acting career started with small roles. One of her first appearances was as a brunette in the Marx

Argumentative Essay On Propaganda

act of controlling the public s mindsets and opinions was still being practiced ever since mankind
came to be. People with ideas want to influence their beliefs on others. Propaganda goes way back to
the early times. In 1622, Pope Gregory XIII settled De Propaganda Fide which translates to the
Congregation for Propagating the Faith, which was a committee of cardinals of the Roman Catholic
Church. The De Propaganda Fide was intended to disperse Catholicism into Christian beliefs.
Propaganda remained a religious term throughout the 18th and part of the 19th century. Propaganda
began as ideologies inculcated by the Catholic Church. The people were persuaded by their faith
rather than on the reason. In 1939, Propaganda was the seed that rooted World War II. Truth is, World

The King In Oedipus The King
In the popular Greek tragedy Oedipus the King, the plot shows how a single bad trait can lead to the
fall of a once great man. The author Sophocles portrays the story of the titular where a hero rises to
fame after solving the city of Thebes great riddle. The solution to the riddle frees Thebes of its curse
from the Sphinx and relieves the city s misery. Although Oedipus is praised and crowned king for
freeing the city, he is not entirely a good man. Oedipus is very arrogant, which causes him to make
several bad decisions. Through the story of Oedipus the King, Sophocles warns readers not to let
arrogance blind them from reality, for it will eventually result in tremendous suffering.
At the beginning of this Greek drama, Oedipus is blind due to his arrogance. For example, when the
city is in shambles and the Chorus marches around the altar praying to the gods, Oedipus walks in and
says to them, You pray to the gods? Let me grant your prayers (245). He believes he can answer the
people of Thebes prayers. Additionally, Oedipus is convinced he has god like powers because of his
role as king and his previous success in solving the Sphinx s riddle. His past leads him to believe he is
always right, which is exactly what happens when he encounters the prophet. Oedipus says, Blind, /
lost in the night, endless night that nursed you! / You can t hurt me or anyone else who sees the light /
you can never touch me (425 28). Oedipus attacks the prophet with insults for saying that he was the
one that killed Laius. Again, Oedipus reveals his exaggerated sense of his own abilities and believes
that it is impossible for him to be wrong. Oedipus considers himself to be one of the fortunate who are
able to see the light (427) and cannot be steered in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, in King
Oedipus case, his high ego leads to his great demise.
As this drama progresses, Oedipus begins connecting the dots and restoring his vision. When Jocasta
explains how her husband died to Oedipus, he says, I have a terrible fear the blind seer can see (823).
Oedipus is now suspecting that the prophecy is true because of the similarities between Laius death
and the man he had killed. He begins to stop worrying about his ego and

The Consequences Of The European Colonization Of Native...
European Colonization was rapidly expanded after Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer arrived
in the Americas. The start of the Colonization is dated to 1492. The European Colonization of the
Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the arrival of
Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases, violence and
dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the Native Americans
was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox, measles and influenza.
This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight these diseases as they did
not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic diseases and started dying
quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Thus, within a century, diseases
have reduced indigenous populations by as much as 95% making matters worse. The Epidemic took
years to exhaust itself and may have killed 90% of the people in coastal New England. This made a
huge difference to American History. (Mann, 1491) The drastic death of so many Native Americans
decimated the supply of labors who were working under the Europeans in the Americas. One of the
reasons for death was that most Native Americans were not experienced for many bacterial diseases
so, they had little or no knowledge on how to combat them. The practice where family and friends
gathered with the shaman at

A Certain Night Questions
A Certain Night Questions
Knowledge and Understanding 1. As it is quite obvious in the story, the narrator does not think that
these men and women deserve to die. This is abundant when in the very last line of the story the
narrator states, when will it be light? 2. Throughout the story, the narrator describes the communists as
young, brave and handsome, although they are powerless martyrs. The narrator makes the nationalist
seem murderous looking, and cunning, malicious and smug. The chief executioner has a revolting
moustache, and an evil voice , as well as an ugly and vicious face, which seemed to symbolize the
cruelty of all the rulers to the oppressed. This made it easy enough to distinguish between the ... Show

Not only of his death, but also by showing her passion for her beliefs. 6. A major theme in the story is
to stand your ground, and fight for what you believe in. In other words, be willing to die for what you
stand for, but proudly. Another theme is showing the absolute cruelty of humans. It is showing the
brutal behaviors humans can portray on one another.
Thinking and Inquiry 1. The tone of this story is dark and bitter. Ting Ling achieves this in the
characters emotions throughout the story. This is also shown through imagery, through the gloomy
vibe of the story. Ting Ling used figurative language and vivid descriptions to make the story come
across as both bitter and dark. 2. The setting of the story contributes to the tone because it is set up
during a dark, cold, windy, snowy night. The overall mood of the story was both gloomy and somber,
which contributes to the tone I think Ting Ling was going for. Everything from the prisoners falling
down in the snow, to the soldiers stomping throughout it, made the tone come alive through the text. 3.
There are many different symbols throughout the story. For the chief executioner, he resembles both
cruelty and oppression whereas the young poet symbolizes innocence and better reform. At the end
when the prisoners are singing to their death, it shows a sense of resistance, which symbolizes the
acceptance of their death. 4. The sound of trampling feet connotes punishment as a

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational
system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning
from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He
describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to
finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had
created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he
implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians
to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his
students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way
for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a
university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find
spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect
of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where
men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). To put it

Alexander The Caribou Is Drinking Out Of The Warm Arctic...
Alexander the caribou is drinking out of the warm arctic ocean with his friends; Owen, and Joshua. It
has been a relatively warm winter month with little snowfall so far this year, then all of a sudden, the
ice cracks separating Alexander from his friends slowly drifting away into the ocean. He attempts to
swim back, but does not make it. In 2002, the George River Caribou Herd (GRCH) population was
between 800,000 900,000 animals but by 2014 the population of caribou was decreased to 14,200
GRCH, in northern Canada. While at first it may appear that animal decline and animal population
loss in Canada/ the northern hemisphere, due to carbon emissions, is not as serious as it seems, but a
closer look reveals that carbon emissions from factories, cars, trains, etc. are a cause of global
warming and that the reduction of private transportation would be a quick efficient solution. By
forcing businesses to pay taxes and restrict the amount of carbon output and the general public to use
less private, and more public transportation, the Earth temperature raising would decline. As a result,
this solution would not only stop the destruction of the animal s; habitats, allowing the population
decline to stop, but also stop all the other effects of global warming, such as worse air qualities, higher
temperatures, and sea levels rising across the world. In Canada and the northern hemisphere of the
world the arctic is melting creating more water than there has ever been in this region of

How Does the Surface Area to Volume Ratio Affect Heat Loss...
Biology Lab Report
BY:
Michael Ryan Pranata 11C |
Background: As heat is a form of thermal energy, they tend to have the behavior of reaching a thermal
equilibrium. This means that when two bodies of different temperatures come in contact with each
other, the hotter ones will transfer heat particles to the body with a colder temperature, with an aim to
reach this thermal equilibrium , whatever the temperature may be. The larger the surface area, means
there can be more paths from the sides of the body that are capable of releasing this heat particles, and
reaching thermal equilibrium faster. This is what happens when a hotter body is subjected to a colder
one.
Research Question:
How does the surface area to volume ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We observe the temperature of the four different flasks starting from the equal initial temperatures,
every ten seconds for one samples all the way to three minutes. From the data observed, the average
rate of heat loss can be derived. This is done by taking the initial and final temperature and dividing
them by the number of seconds (18x as the total number of seconds is 180 and interval of 10 secs).
Controlled: Initial temperature, type of insulation, type of flasks, room temperature, time.
1. We ve decided 77⁰C as our initial temperature for every trial. We ve kept the initial temperature
equal for each trial as this would give us fair and reliable results. If the initial temperatures were kept
different, therefore the data provided will be somewhat unreliable. This is also because as the
temperatures are higher, the rate of heat loss would be faster, as compared to when the initial
temperatures are lower. This would again support the unreliability of the data we would observe.
2. The type of insulation that we ve chosen is the cotton, approximately with the same thickness for
each flask. They will be changed for every trial, because for each trial, as the heat escapes from the
sides of the flask in the form of water vapor, it comes in contact with the cotton, thus making it moist,
and changes the capacity of the cotton to insulate. We have decided to

Cost Of Billboard
What Are the Added Costs of Renting a Billboard?
Other than renting a billboard, there are other costs that must be accounted for. On average, companies
will spend $500 to $1,000 to pay someone to design the billboard. Buying the vinyl material for a
bulletin billboard will cost about $500 for 700 square feet of vinyl. To lower costs, businesses can
always choose to hire a freelancer online to complete the design.
How Do I Rent the Billboard That I Want?
If the business has already found the right spot for their advertisement, the next step is actually renting
the billboard. Normally, the advertiser s name will be listed below or next to the billboard image.

They allow running text and easy changes between different advertisements. Often, companies can
rent them for a portion of the time each day or during specific time periods like rush hour.
Painted Billboards: While these were once the most popular option, painted billboards have been
increasingly replaced by graphically produced designs.
Scented Billboard: Believe it or not, companies like Bloom have used scented billboards so that
people smell scents like charcoal when they pass by the billboard.
Mobile Billboards: A mobile billboard is often placed on a car or temporarily added to large events.
While they are less common, mobile billboards are often more memorable for consumers.
No matter what a business is looking for, there are many different types of billboards and price ranges
that are available. From national chains to local advertisers, businesses can find the exact advertising
products that they need. Once the business has found the right location, the billboard can help to boost
their brand and increase the buzz surrounding the

How Does Lee Present Scout s Relationship In To Kill A...
They are your competition, yet they support you. They are your enemy, yet when it comes down to it
you end up fighting side by side. They hate you, yet love you more than words could say. Sibling
relationships are among the most complicated and confusing things to understand. Complex sibling
relationships are seen everywhere, whether you are reading or watching televison. To Kill a
Mockingbird is just one example of literature that contains a sibling dynamic effecting the theme.
Harper Lee skillfully tells of the compelling relationship between Jem and Scout, as it unfolds and
contributes to the strong theme, change versus tradition.
Verbarendse 2
Throughout the publication Jem and Scout mature as people, adapt to changes around them, and
develop a close bond.
The theme, change versus tradition, is ever present throughout the storyline. It is first revealed as Jem
begins to grow up and doesn t have time for Scout. This is evident in the following quotation: Jem was
twelve. He was difficult to live with, inconsistent, moody. His appetite was appalling, and he told me
so many times to stop pestering him... (Lee 153) This causes tension between the two and shows that
change is beginning to take place, breaking up the traditional interactions between Jem and ... Show

  • 2. The Dispute Over The South China Sea Essay The dispute over the South China Sea denotes the process of power rebalancing while China rising as a hegemony in East Asia. China craves for more resources and power and decides to effectuate that by controlling more maritime territory. This act impelled the United State to align with the Philippines to balance with China. In a realism world, U.S. has adequate reason to intervene for fear for China becoming too strong a power. Realism assumes that under a balance of power, the overriding aim of all states is to maximize power and become the only hegemony in the system. States only help themselves in the anarchic international system. Therefore, China s rise is regarded as a disconcerting threat to the U.S. s primacy of power in the present international stage. The power shift in East Asia is creating security dilemmas; the U.S. thus demands more security to its Asian allies including Philippines, Japan and South Korea. The rapidly rising Chinese power would inevitably challenge the current international balance of power and appear aggressively in the eyes of weaker power such as the Philippines. Therefore it seeks help to its ally, the U.S., to counterbalance the power of China. China intends to gain more resources and to transform current international order to its favor according to its national interests. The 2010 Chinese White Paper on National Defence states that: Contradictions continue to surface between developed and developing countries and between traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hobbies can range from many different activities, whether it is knitting, reading a book, surfing, running, shopping, painting and so forth. There are so many different types of activities that one can do. These hobbies are usually done on a casual basis; there is no obligation to do them. Now when we talk about futbol there are so many different levels and divisions, the main level I plan to focus on is La Liga, which is the highest division in Spanish futbol. The one that follows is La Segunda Division¸but peoples main focus is La Primera Division because the best of the best play in this division. As well this is where most of the fuel to the fire is, especially with the rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona. The game becomes much more intense when these two teams are even mentioned. In order to grasp a full understanding of the phenomenon with Spanish futbol and La Liga we need to have some back ground knowledge of how it came to be. A man by the name of Jose Maria Acha first proposed the idea of Spain having a national futbol team. After much debate of how many teams there were going to be in La Liga, they came to the agreement that there would be ten, and in 1929 the Primera Division was established. La Primera Liga is like royalty in futbol, they are the best of the best futbolistas, and not anyone can be a part of this division. The success of La Liga is all due to the biggest rivals in soccer history, Real Madrid and F.C. Barcelona who are basically the biggest and most successful teams in La Primera Division. Both these teams were founding members and have never been de ranked to Segunda Division. Due to the fact that these teams have been at war for over eighty years shows us that the spirit of futbol has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through the similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of God and Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good and evil, and choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal with these things with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon. The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best lamb, while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain becomes infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage. Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is? No, I don t, said Cal. . . . He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he? How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410) This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel is missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam and Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements Cal and Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of ... • 24. Saint Augustine s Confessions And The City Of God Saint Augustine (354 430 C.E.) is often considered the greatest of all Christianity s founders. His theology is vital to the doctrine of the clinical church and years yet to come. His abilities as a preacher and commentator brought about his fast development in the church hierarchy to come the bishop of Hippo in northern Africa. Saint Augustine best regarded works are his autobiographical Confessions and The city of God. These two writings deliver a Christian interpretation to events and reasoning to slavery. In 410 A.D., Alaric and his Goths sacked or raided Rome. Many blamed Christianity for Rome s fall. People would suggest that the pagan gods were irritated due to the fact Christianity had been promoted through the empire. Augustine s wrote The City of God as a response to people who believed that. The point Augustine made when regarding to the sack of Rome is that the city s own lust of domination, claiming territory and enslaving other nations, led to their own domination. He pointed out that the barbarian invaders had spared most of the churches and that even pagans had taken refuge in the Christian churches. This sheds a positive light on the sack of Rome, claiming that many of its enemies received redemption and became useful citizens of the city. Essentially he thought that, Rome was sacrificed so that the influence of God could be spread among the city s enemies. The Prohibition era, dated between mid 1920 to early 1933, was period in American history when the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors were banned and forbidden because of the increase in violence and illegal activities. • 26. Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose... The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was like on the frontier. The author Sophocles portrays the story of the titular where a hero rises to fame after solving the city of Thebes great riddle. The solution to the riddle frees Thebes of its curse from the Sphinx and relieves the city s misery. Although Oedipus is praised and crowned king for freeing the city, he is not entirely a good man. Oedipus is very arrogant, which causes him to make several bad decisions. Through the story of Oedipus the King, Sophocles warns readers not to let arrogance blind them from reality, for it will eventually result in tremendous suffering. At the beginning of this Greek drama, Oedipus is blind due to his arrogance. For example, when the city is in shambles and the Chorus marches around the altar praying to the gods, Oedipus walks in and says to them, You pray to the gods? Let me grant your prayers (245). He believes he can answer the people of Thebes prayers. Additionally, Oedipus is convinced he has god like powers because of his role as king and his previous success in solving the Sphinx s riddle. His past leads him to believe he is always right, which is exactly what happens when he encounters the prophet. Oedipus says, Blind, / lost in the night, endless night that nursed you! / You can t hurt me or anyone else who sees the light / you can never touch me (425 28). Oedipus attacks the prophet with insults for saying that he was the one that killed Laius. Again, Oedipus reveals his exaggerated sense of his own abilities and believes that it is impossible for him to be wrong. Oedipus considers himself to be one of the fortunate who are able to see the light (427) and cannot be steered in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, in King Oedipus case, his high ego leads to his great demise. As this drama progresses, Oedipus begins connecting the dots and restoring his vision. When Jocasta explains how her husband died to Oedipus, he says, I have a terrible fear the blind seer can see (823). The start of the Colonization is dated to 1492. The European Colonization of the Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the arrival of Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases, violence and dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the Native Americans was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox, measles and influenza. This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight these diseases as they did not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic diseases and started dying quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. This means that when two bodies of different temperatures come in contact with each other, the hotter ones will transfer heat particles to the body with a colder temperature, with an aim to reach this thermal equilibrium , whatever the temperature may be. The larger the surface area, means there can be more paths from the sides of the body that are capable of releasing this heat particles, and reaching thermal equilibrium faster. This is what happens when a hotter body is subjected to a colder one. Research Question: How does the surface area to volume ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We observe the temperature of the four different flasks starting from the equal initial temperatures, every ten seconds for one samples all the way to three minutes. From the data observed, the average rate of heat loss can be derived. This is done by taking the initial and final temperature and dividing them by the number of seconds (18x as the total number of seconds is 180 and interval of 10 secs). Controlled: Initial temperature, type of insulation, type of flasks, room temperature, time. 1. We ve decided 77⁰C as our initial temperature for every trial. We ve kept the initial temperature equal for each trial as this would give us fair and reliable results. If the initial temperatures were kept different, therefore the data provided will be somewhat unreliable. This is also because as the temperatures are higher, the rate of heat loss would be faster, as compared to when the initial temperatures are lower. This would again support the unreliability of the data we would observe. 2. The type of insulation that we ve chosen is the cotton, approximately with the same thickness for each flask. They will be changed for every trial, because for each trial, as the heat escapes from the sides of the flask in the form of water vapor, it comes in contact with the cotton, thus making it moist, and changes the capacity of the cotton to insulate.
