The Effects Of Social Media On Society Essay
Social media has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. Most people engage
with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or
negative. Are we as a society becoming more concerned with Facebook friends than we are with the
people we interact with face to face in our daily lives? What will the longterm effects of today s social
media use be? There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as many dangers that come with
the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming
sites, and blogs. Social media has both negative and positive effects on society, it is up to the user to
decide what impact they want to make. In order to make the right choices, we must dig in and research
this topic thoroughly. Recent research has documented how technology, and social networking sites
(SNS; e.g., Facebook, Instagram) in particular, have given rise to a growing obsession with impression
management and self presentation online. Whether it s searching for the perfect Instagram photo filter
or carefully crafting a humblebrag Facebook status about a recent publication, users frequently engage
in selective self presentation strategies to portray an ideal self through social media (Chou Edge, 2012;
Manago, Graham, Greenfield, Salimkhan, 2008). In turn, we seek out social approval and positive
feedback in the form of comments and likes. With steep increases in the

An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor
The percentage of people who say they believe in God, pray, frequently go to religious services,
embrace minimal religious practices or find their faith meaningful has declined over the last 50 years.
A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even
fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded.
This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor,
wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She, in her short stories and books of
fiction, did not describe beautiful rooms or people living happily ever after; she wrote about the
human condition in the American South and the state of religious conviction. She wrote about
unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white
trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where
the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. She believed the
South was haunted by religion but as a group were literally swimming in mediocrity, cynicism and
emptiness a rough and tumble nihilism. They might say their faith mattered or attended services, but
many were just lying to their neighbors and themselves. To her, they were just checking the box with a
faith bordering on tepid and pathetic. She felt, given their current status, they would not know a

Essay on Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a biochemical process in which plant, algae, and some bacteria harness the energy of
light to produce food. Nearly all living things depend on energy produced from photosynthesis for
their nourishment, making it vital to life on Earth. It is also responsible for producing the oxygen that
makes up a large portion of the Earth¡¦s atmosphere. Factors that affect photosynthesis are light
intensity and wave length, carbon dioxide concentration, and temperature.
Plants are autotrophs that mean they are able to synthesize food directly from inorganic compounds,
instead of relying on other organisms. They use carbon dioxide gas and water to produce sugars and

The surface of the leaf is uniformly coated with a water resistant waxy cuticle that protects the leaf
from excessive absorption of light and evaporation of water. The transparent, colourless epidermis
layer allows light to pass through to the mesophyll cells where most of the photosynthesis takes place.
To metabolic pathways involved in photosynthesis are light reaction and dark reaction. The first stage
of the photosynthetic system is the light dependent reaction, which converts solar energy into
chemical energy. Light absorbed by chlorophyll or other photosynthetic pigments is used to drive a
transfer of electrons and hydrogen from water to and acceptor called NADP , reducing it to the form
of NADPH by adding a pair of electrons and a single proton. The water or some other donor molecule
is split in the process. The light reaction also generates ADP, a process called photophosphorylation.
ATP is a versatile source of chemical energy used in most biological processes. The light reaction
produces no carbohydrates such as sugars.
In photosynthesis, the dark reactions are chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and other
compounds into glucose. These reactions unlike light dependent reactions do not need light to occur.
These reactions take the products of the light dependent reactions and perform further chemical
processes on

Hearsay Testimonies Case Summary
Testimonies from children who have experienced sexual assault can mean the difference between
guilty and not guilty verdicts for the defendant. Often times child victims are psychologically and
even physically harmed jeopardizing their statements during the trial. There are a number of reasons
for children to be unable to give full accounts of what has occurred to them. For the purpose of
protecting child victims and making sure they are heard the courts have implemented innovations that
make testifying less traumatic for children and allow for a more accurate description of the assault.
Hearsay testimonies are one of the innovations that have been shown to give child victims of sexual
assault the chance to be fully heard. Victims directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Effect of Hearsay Witness Age in a Child Sexual assault case from the journal Psychology, Public
Policy, and Law, authors Jonathan M. Golding, Mary C Alexander, and Terri L. Stewart discuss how
jurors view hearsay witnesses and if the age of the hearsay witness effects their perception of the
credibility of hearsay witness. A study was done with male and female participants, who read a
fictional court case summary about a sexual assault. The court case summary involved a 7, 16, or 25
year old hearsay witness testifying on behalf of a 6 or 15 year old victim. (Golding, Alexander,
Stewart, 1999) The case included the testimony of one primary witness, a hearsay witness, or a
clinical psychologist. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) The authors begin by explaining the
purpose of child hearsay testimonies and when hearsay witnesses are permitted, a child s words are
hearsay if (a) the child s words were intended by the child to describe something that happened, (b)
the child s words were spoken prior to the court proceeding at which the words are repeated by
someone who heard the child speak, and (c) the child s words are offered in court to prove that what
the child said actually happened. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) hearsay isn t always permitted
in order to keep the trail from becoming unfair. The authors discuss different studies that have been
done on hearsay testimonies and whether these studies have shown hearsay to be reliable and
warranted. One study that is described ended with jurors believing the hearsay witness just as much as
the victim testifying on her own behalf, the reasons for this, as the article explains, is the mock jurors
may have seen the hearsay witness as a surrogate who is simply retelling the child s story (Golding,
Alexander, Stewart, 1999) second jurors may feel the need to punish someone because sexual assault
is seen as such a horrible crime, third the hearsay

How Does Tragic Love As The Struggle For Freedom In Romeo...
Kottman, Paul A. Defying the Stars: Tragic Love as the Struggle for Freedom in Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare Quarterly 63.1 (2012): 1 38.
This article discusses how in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the title character s each achieve
freedom and self realization through their love for one another. I will use this article to make claims
that R and Julie in Warm Bodies achieve the same things through their actions and their love, as their
Shakespearean counterparts do. I will use the arguments made in this article to support my own claims
about how Warm Bodies uses the zombie apocalypse to construct a reality in which love literally can
change the world.

How Does Shakespeare Use Natural Imagery In Titus Andronicus
Natural imagery and references to nature are found throughout
The Spanish Tragedy and Titus Andronicus. In Kyd s play Hieronimo s garden serves as the setting for
no less than three important scenes, including the pivotal scene in which the bloody corpse of Horatio
is discovered hanging from a bower by his father. Titus Andronicus also employs a natural setting as
the scene of criminal activity, for Lavinia is savagely raped and mutilated and her husband is
murdered while the two are walking in the forest. Also, Marcus and Titus use pastoral language in
their descriptions of the handless Lavinia, comparing her to a fountain spewing forth blood and to a
tree with its branches lopped
9ff.,·These natural images are not included in the two plays for ornamentation; rather, I feel that Kyd
and Shakespeare include these images because nature had many connotations for their audience. To
most Elizabethans, the natural and unspoiled world was God s handiwork, and nature was seen as a
benificent force in the world. The image of defiled nature which is presented in both The Spanish
Tragedy and Titus Andronicus would undoubtedly have had a shocking dramatic impact on Kyd s and
Shakespeare s audiences. The Renaissance concept of nature differs vastly from that of the
12
13 twentieth century. According to Isabel Rivers, the modern scholar or student approaches
Renaissance literature with an obvious disadvantage because he does not share the same views, beliefs
and preconceptions as the

The Russian Venture Capital Market
An entrepreneur looking to fund his/her startup in Russia can do so in many different ways, including
but not limited to angel investment, venture capital investment, crowdfunding and government
funding. This essay will explain how each of the above mentioned options works and which of the
options is more beneficial for different types of startups, especially in the condition of current adverse
macroeconomic condition. It is notable that even though getting a funding through all of this ways is
possible, the one that guarantees the most stability and support is getting funding through the
government. Unfortunately, due to unstable financial situation venture capital funds are not ready to

Unfortunately, very few of them had survived through the default of 1998, and in 1999 the
government had passed a bill that developed a strategy for funding high risk projects. The result of
this bill was a Venture Investment Fund that formed the structure behind the Russian start up market
and started annual venture fairs, which provided the first ever networking opportunities between the
entrepreneurs and investors in the country. The most promising sector was proven to be IT, with such
companies as Yandex (NASDAQ: YNDX), Rambler, Ozon, Mail Group (LSE: MAIL), and others
being the first recipients of these investments.
Private Equity and Venture Funds
Needless to say, that the adverse macroeconomic situation of Russia is being reflected in the venture
market. First decreases in volumes began all the way in 2013, with increased volatility on the currency
market being the major driver behind all the main key performance indicators. As noted by Sai

Reflection Of A Symphony Orchestra
On November 29, 2017, during a Wednesday night, I attended a Symphony Orchestra. The
performance was played by the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra in Moores Opera House
at the Moores School of Music. The performance was conducted by two different conductors. The first
conductor was Carlos Guillermo Jung, he conducted the first piece which was a piece by Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky called Fantasy which is a Romeo and Juliet Overture. The next conductor was Franz
Anton Krager, he conducted the Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by Camille Saint Saens
which also included Vagram Saradjian, who was a guest cellist performer. The next piece conducted
by Fran Anton Krager was the Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The
performance overall was over two hours, but was very entertaining and captured my attention the
whole time. The first piece that was conducted by Jung called Romeo and Juliet Overture Fantasy,
which is an orchestral work composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was one of the top
composers during the Romantic era who was inspired by the work of Shakespeare. The overture
outlines the plot of Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet. The genre of the piece is overture, the form
is sonata, and the meter is duple or to some people, it may seem like the meter is quadruple.
Throughout the performance, some themes were mostly led by the woodwind section, more
specifically the clarinets and bassoons, and another theme was led by

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (Stds)
STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) are diseases that are transmitted through sexual intercourse
with another domestic partner. Usually STD s are transmitted through oral, anal, vaginal, or other
sexually active bodily contact. Sexually Transmitted Diseases are 100% avoidable. There are many
techniques, but the most effective way is to have sexual intercourse with only one partner in your
whole life, making sure that your partner didn t have sexual involvements with anyone else. Another
method is a condom. A condom fits over the male erect penis, to protect both partners of any diseases
that may possibly exist. It is also vital to buy the right kind of condom. Some condoms are porous,

Cleopatra
Cleopatra had a very extraordinary life. She was born into royalty and became a ruler at a very young
age due to her father s death. She was married four times, first to her two younger brothers, third to
Julius Caesar and fourth to Marc Antony. She had four children with both Julius Caesar and marc
Antony. Cleopatra also had 5 siblings. Later on, in life, Cleopatra committed suicide.
Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt (Cleopatra: The Woman Behind the Name.) Her

Cleopatra chose to go back to Egypt. On her way back to Egypt she made a stop in Cyprus which had
been granted to her younger sister Arsinoe and her younger brother and co ruler Ptolemy XIV, in order
to ensure that she was known as their true ruler. As Cleopatra arrived in Egypt she immediately took
steps to consolidate her rule. A document dated July 26 44 BC, Ptolemy XIV s name appeared, but
after that date he disappeared many say that Cleopatra ordered for him to be poisoned and it is notable
that around this time she dropped the epithet brother loving from her titles. Cleopatra confirmed her
son by Julius Caesar, Caesarion, co regent. Cleopatra also continued to build the Caesareum in honor
of Caesar. In Dendera, Caesarion was depicted in front of images of Cleopatra, asserting him as the
primary ruler (Ancient Egypt Online.) Cleopatra and Marc Antony spent the winter of 41 to 40 BC in
Alexandria. In the spring of 40 BC, Marc Antony left Cleopatra to return home. Marc Antony did not
see her for four years. Fulvia, Antony s ex wife had gotten into a movement against his wife Octavian
over veteran s allotments of land. In the meantime Cleopatra had given birth to twins, a boy and a girl.
Their twin children were officially recognized by Antony and were given names of Alexander Helios
and Cleopatra Selene. Marc Antony gave her much land which was very essential to Egypt. He gave
her Cyprus, the Cilician coast, Phoenicia, Coele Syria, and Judea and Arabia. In 34 BC, Antony had a
campaign into Armenia which had been successful and financially rewarding. Antony celebrated his
triumph with a parade. He presented himself as the New Dionysus. Ptolemy XV (Caesarion) was

Energy Drinks In Sports Drinks
Problem and Purpose
The problem is that many people use and rely on sports drinks, many of which contain high levels of
calories coming from sugar. This is a problem not only due to the many headlines on the obesity
epidemic in this country, especially in regards to children, and how too many people eat too much
sugar and this leads to major health problems like obesity and diabetes. I and many others use these
beverages to refuel from an activity and feel more hydrated or just to enjoy, so I wanted to test these
products and other beverages to determine which of the beverages contain the highest concentration of
electrolytes. The purpose of this project is to see if there is the ability to gain enough electrolytes
without the need to use a beverage with high sugar/calorie content.
Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the beverages with the most electrolytes would have the least
amount of calories and the beverages with the least electrolytes will have the most calories because
calories in beverages are usually from sugar while electrolytes are made up of salt, calcium,
potassium. I think this because usually when something is salty (what electrolytes are made of) it
would be less sugary (what calories are made of) and vice versa.

A great many athletes will drink a sports/electrolyte drink after an activity or workout, while others
will just drink these to enjoy or to feel more hydrated. In most of these situations the person drinking

Compare And Contrast The Scientific Revolution And John Locke
Essay#2
The Scientific Revolution resulted in many discoveries and inspired people to think differently. This
led to people changing their views on enlightenment. Some, such as John Locke, thought rights were
the way to go. Others, such as BDM, believed government could ensure happiness. There were even
people, like Voltaire, believed a voice could solve all problems. John Locke was an English thinker
from the seventeenth century who lived through the English Civil War. John Locke was against
powerful government because, unlike others, he believed that people were reasonable and moral. He
also believed in natural rights. Natural rights were rights given to people at birth. They differed from
other rights because natural rights cannot be taken away. There are three natural rights: life, liberty and
the pursuit of happiness. Locke also argued that people formed governments, not to impose order, but
to protect everyone s natural rights. The U.S put these natural rights in their constitution. Because of
these three rights, we don t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

research. Montesquieu studied the governments of England and Italy. He even read about ancient
Chinese and Native American government systems. In his book The Spirit of the Laws he discusses
different forms of government throughout history. His book also includes sharp criticism of absolute
monarchy and explains why he supports dividing powers. Montesquieu s government consisted of

Cocaine Intoxication Essay
Cocaine Intoxication Cocaine intoxication occurs when you snort, smoke or inject too much cocaine.
One becomes restless and overactive shortly after using cocaine, but with excessive use, cocaine
intoxication can lead to death (Adult Health Advisor, 2005). The four stages of cocaine intoxication
are cocaine euphoria, cocaine disphoria, cocaine hallucinosis and cocaine psychosis. It has been noted
that cocaine intoxication closely resembles a psychiatric disorder. In the movie, The Boost , the main
character Lenny Brown goes through each stage of cocaine psychosis and examples of his progression
can be seen in the movie. The first stage of cocaine intoxication is cocaine euphoria which is described

This stage is sometimes referred to as a crash . Other symptoms include anxiety, sadness, apathy,
irritability and sexual indifference. Contrast to cocaine euphoria, individuals feel tired and want sleep,
but cannot fall asleep. Users in this stage also have strong cravings for more cocaine to return to the
increased pleasure and energy in stage one. As the movie moves forward, so does Lenny s experience
with cocaine intoxication. In the bar scene when he is waiting for the dealer with his wife, he is
irritated with the dealer for being late, even though his wife is relatively unaffected by having to wait.
Also, one can see how Lenny craves more cocaine once he is out of the hospital. He was just released
for overdosing on cocaine, but as soon as he gets in the car with his wife, he asks her if she has any.
Another example to show how desperate Lenny is to obtain more cocaine and try to impress people is
by stealing $20,000 from his boss. As one moves into stage three, the symptoms and affects start to
become more severe and dangerous. This third stage is referred to as cocaine hallucinosis. In this
stage, individuals experience hallucinations and delusions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that
occur in the absence of actual stimulation (Kassin, 2004, 654.) In cocaine hallucinosis, users see, hear,

Personal Accomplishments Of A Varsity Soccer Team
Everyone has accomplishments, People experience them young, old and all inbetween. A main
accomplishment in my life has been starting for the varsity lacrosse team here at Clackamas High

some of the best club teams in Oregon. During these experiences I have grown as a person, began
working harder, and learned you can t always control everything. With determination you can do
anything you set your mind to.
When I was younger, I played lacrosse on the Clackamas Youth Select team. The coach for that team
was the varsity high school coach. So i ve played a few years with him as my coach. I always worked
hard at practice and played 100 percent during my games, so when I graduated eighth grade, I
assumed that I would be on varsity as a freshman, but I was in for a surprise.
The weeks before the season officially started the coach got a bunch of the players together to start
training and getting ready. As a freshman, I didn t think that going to all of those training camps were

The Populist Party And The Socialist Party
The Populist Party is often referred to as the party of and for the people, and is labeled as such because
it was, very candidly, founded by the common people, such as farmers and other laborers. While this
party was in power, they had many ambitions and ideas that they sought to spread to others, and
aspired to achieve. To understand the topic completely, one requires a general knowledge of the
formation of the populist party, the elemental beliefs, goals and ideals, and how the downfall of the
party came about, as this will aid in the understanding of the populist party s want of free coinage of
silver and how it would have helped debtors initially, but would have had a comprehensive and
unfavorable effect on the American economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, almost all of the populist party could be put under one label: Debtors. The farmers involved
sought to regulate prices and make them affordable, while industrialists sought to regulate the hours in
a work day. The people were left in great debt and hoped that these actions may soon begin to lift the
economic depression that they were facing. The main idea of the populist party was to unite the
common and poor people so that they may gain power as a group, and allow the aforementioned group
to gain and retain more power and say within the operations and actions of the government. Although
the party began as a group of upset farmers, soon after the movement to create this party had begun, it
caught the attention of others. Some industrial workers, and a few stray others shared similar views as
these southern and western farmers, and decided that they would join the party, in hopes of also
gaining authority, and had hope to attempt to stop the declining economic condition. Although at first,
other political parties saw the populists as humorous, the party began to grow, causing more and more
people to be forced to recognize that the populists were gaining power, and should be taken seriously
(Edwards). It started in Kansas, when William Peffer became the first populist senate member, and
shortly after, the party began to grow. The party soon developed two different branches: Fusionists,

Fatherlessness In The Father
The purpose of this paper is to examine the growing epidemic of fatherlessness as it affects all aspects
of American society today, as well as the potential role of the corporate body of the Christian church
together with each Christian individually is not only addressing the root of the issue, but ultimately the
symptoms as well. While experts agree that fathers play a crucial role in the physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual well being of children, nonetheless there remains a growing ideology within
our society today, from men and women alike, that touts no legitimate need for fathers to exist within
the family framework. Thus, the poisonous fingers of fatherlessness have clasped a death grip over
every aspect of society. It can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most everyone knows about this role. This is a male; which for whatever reason has left his family
behind. He neglects any and all responsibility for his family, thus he offers little to no financial or
emotional support (Blankenhorn, 1995). According to the US Census Bureau, 47.3% of custodial
mothers received all child support that they were owed and 77.5% received some (Bureau, 2012).
The Shadow Dad The Shadow Dad is a man that has left the home, and is not intentionally involved in
family life or decisions. While some Shadow Dads offer the occasional drop in visit here and there,
40% of their children haven t seen their father in a year (The National Center for Fathering, 2015).
The Shadow Dad offers minimal responsibility as he maintains child support, loves his children, and
causes no trouble. However, he is simply not around, thus leaving an ever deepening painful void as
the children grow (Blankenhorn, 1995).

Mexican American Relations Of The Past And The Present Essay
After thinking well about our class and the sociological symbols of power what first comes to my
mind is the border. Seemingly enough I first had an idea to do my paper on the narcotics trafficking
but I stumbled across a few good articles that support my thesis to my paper. In my paper my goal of
is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of
relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic
power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a
major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants.
A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in
the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided
to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was
facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico
was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as
the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as
education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as
nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This
initiative was able to pass even

Support System In Kewauna s Ambition By Paul Tough
Success: a word that is defined as being good at what you do and how you do it. There are many
elements of success. Some key elements are grit, a support system and commitment. Grit is having the
strength to never give up when things get tough, no matter how tough situations get. Having a support
system is having people by your side helping you get through anything and everything in the best way
they can! Commitment is keeping up with something and sticking with it every step of the way until
the job is done. Kewauna, from Kewauna s Ambition , a portion from How Children Succeed , written
by Paul Tough, showed those three elements: grit by never giving up, having a support system that
included a tutor, family and classmates, and determination while she tried her hardest to do her best
every day while attempting to escape her former lifestyle and being enrolled in a program. While

Angela Merkel The Glass Ceiling
The term glass ceiling is an acknowledged barrier that women and members of minorities face when
they try to climb the ladder of success. They physically can see the next achievement, but ultimately
cannot reach it because of their gender or race. Angela Merkel is a product of East Germany during
the cold war, not only did she have the obstacle of being brought up by a communist regime to
overcome, but she had to prove that being a woman would indeed make her a good leader of the
people of Germany. Sometimes accused of being an anti feminist, Merkel over time developed here
leadership skills to overcome her communist upbringing, major controversies within her own political

Hypocrisy In Canterbury s Canterbury Tales
Canterbury Tales is one of the most important pieces of writing from the Medieval times.Having a
major influence of religion to carry the tales out,While giving the reader an idea of how religion
dominated society during the fourteenth century. The narrative of Canterbury Tales are religious, as the
characters are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. So,throughout the tales there are various evidence of
religious influences, but the two main Religious aspects that are very prominent within the text is
Religious Hypocrisy and Church Corruption. Religious Hypocrisy is when a virtuous person with
moral or religious beliefs or principles, usually in a high religious ranking who does not really possess
those qualities that they claim to have, and usually lives the total opposite way of what they portray to
believe in.There seems to be plenty of Hypocrisy going on in Canterbury tales from majority of the
characters. The old saying practice what you preach,is highly ignored by the Pardoner, who traveled
along the countryside selling official church pardons, which were pieces of paper signed by a bishop
entitling the bearer to forgiveness for their sins. The Pardoner addresses ideas in his sermons such as
greed, selfishness, and other sins.Only to neglect his own teaches and indulge in these sins that he
preaches against. He also is one of those main characters that show us how much Church Corruption

Since everyone is from completely different backgrounds, there is no way to figure out all the reasons
for why they do it. According to Katherine S. Newman, there are five things that all school shooters
have in common. At some point in their life, they were seen as different in some way, shape, or form.
All shooters also suffer from some sort of depression. Because of the depression, they look to be
problem solvers. They want to be known and get the glamour and street credit. They crave the power,
status, and history. They feel as if the glorious feeling of death will cure the quiet, dark, and alone side
that they have. The shooter also broadcasts their intentions and the attacks are never spontaneous. By
giving little hints, they try to gain friends and keep the ones they have safe. They all want to have
social status or revenge on a group that does not want them. (Newman). Although these reasons all
make sense, it is such a broad spectrum of ideas and characteristics. There is no way of knowing the
motive for a persons actions, especially if it is not being looked for or talked about. It is important to
be aware of these characteristics because it is one of the first steps in preventing these horrible events

Security system using Hand gestures using a novel algorithm that can be used for Banking Security. At
the time of robbery in bank, by making a cross hand gesture by any employer or customer, the doors
of the bank will get closed and the nearby police station will be informed about the robbery. It is very
important for every bank to provide security to their customers and employees, so the main purpose of
the project is to provide security to the customers and employees of the bank. At the time of robbery in
bank, the money of the bank and the life of the customers and the employees are at risk, this project
will use hand gesture recognition technique to recognize the special hand gesture of the employees so
that nearby police can be informed about the robbery just by recognizing that special hand gesture. In
this project we will use laptop web camera to acquire image of the gesture.

Generational Differences In Older Generations
We didn t have birthdays like you growing up. I was gripped from the beginning of this interview to

grandmother, has led a very different life than mine own due to multiple generation gaps and
geographical differences. This interview really enlightened me about the struggles that people went
through in previous years and how their childhoods were so drastically different than ours. What was
really eye opening about this interview was that not only how technology has changed how we live
but the evolution of society that makes older generations seem so distant even though the difference in
years is only around 60 years. Her first memory as a child is running through farms in her bare feet in
rural Wisconsin, which is one of her most fond ones at that. She was a very bright young student,

The Globe Theatre Research Paper
The Globe Theatre became what it is today because of its history. What was its history exactly?
Unfortunately, those are two questions many people don t have an answer to. So, what is the history?
The history of The Globe Theatre comes from a building known as The Theatre. The Theatre, had
been built by James Burbage, in Shoreditch (District in the East End of London) in 1576. The Burbage
s had a 20 year lease of the land where the theater had been built. When the lease was up, the landlord
intended on knocking the theater down. However, with the lease ending, James Burbage built the
theatre in Blackfriars as a replacement. Unfortunately the wealthy people of Blackfriars persuaded the
government to forbid its use for plays. James Burbage died in 1597. The members of the Lord
Chamberlain s Men had to rent a theater. In 1598, they decided to build a theater of their own. The
Burbage s sons got their fathers inheritance, Cuthbert and Richard, which were connected the
Blackfriars, they formed an agreement with Shakespeare and a few other actors, who became partners
for the new Globe. Each member had their own share, the two brothers, Cuthbert and Richard, got a

London during this time. They were also given another choice to change to the Blackfriars for good in
1613, when the Globe burned down to the ground, its roofing had accidentally got set on fire by a

of the theater the members decided to rebuild the Globe better than it had been

Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime
Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that are
not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had
ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of
the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crime tend to impact the severity of
their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of
Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated, unconscious woman behind a
dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is
learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. Neutralisation is the process of
learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the crime. Brock Turner s case is
wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an exception to otherwise proportionate
punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim s statement, media coverage and the
public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association to get
a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently punished.
Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association both stem from the Positivist School of
Criminology meaning that both surmise that punishment should fit the criminal not the crime. This
simply isn t applicable to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry
In the Patrick Henry s speech at the Virginia Convention Patrick Henry tries to persuade the colonist
to fight a war against the English, he does this through several main rhetorical strategies, imagery,
emotional appeal, and allusion. Patrick Henry uses imagery to get the listeners attention, as he relates
the to the dumb sailors who would get killed by the sirons cause they would be caught in their beauty
and singing. Patrick Henry uses emotional appeal to get the listeners on his side, by bringing up
slavery because if they do not fight back they can become slaves. Patrick henry uses allusion so he can
get the listeners to fight back, he butters them up and gives them a couple reasons on why they should
not fight back but then hit them with the news saying that they have to fight back. Patrick Henrys

New York s Bestseller The Other Wes Moore Essay
New York s bestseller The other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore is a story of how two kids with similar
backgrounds including similar names ended up with different outcomes in life. The author Wes Moore
ended with a degree from Oxford University and an internship at the white house while the other Wes
More got sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an off duty police officer. The book goes into
detail on why they ended up so differently and it turns out that it could have been a number of life
changing events and choices. However Malcolm Gladwell who wrote the book Outliers, would argue
that it may have been a result of external factors that would contribute to the success of the author and

Moore s started off with similar backgrounds, the difference between their mothers parenting styles

outcomes. In fact, Gladwell would argue that difference in the mothers cultural legacy, sense of
meaningful work, economic privilege) determine their parenting styles, which in made a difference in
the educational opportunities of their sons. Although both mothers struggle to keep their sons out of

The Importance Of Obeying The Law
The fine line between obeying the law and not obeying it. Obeying the law kind of makes the world
safer. When you don t obey a law and therefore caught doing the crime; you will be charged and
possibly sentenced to a place where you are no longer free to do as you please. When you obey the
law you get to do as you please with your life as long as you follow the laws. Laws are put into motion
to create a safe environment for everyone to live in. No one should have to be worried about their
lives everyday; but there are accidents everyday in which lives are lost. When people aren t following
the law it doesn t mean that they are doing something that could harm someone; it could be something
that wouldn t have no harm no foul. When you don t follow every law it doesn t make you a bad
person. I don t believe everyone follows every law because there are too many laws that we don t
really know. Breaking a law that has done no harm doesn t make you a bad person. When we are born
their isn t an official or someone working for the government at the hospital with documents for you

Analysis Of Aimee Bender s Willful Creatures
Aimee Bender s Willful Creatures is a collection of fifteen short stories each with their own unique
story. Although each story has its own plot and characters, the overall effect produced individually ties
the book together into one single work. Whether the story is about a woman and her potatoes, a girl
who is bullied throughout her life, or a man who has intercourse with single mothers, the problems of
society is enlightened. Bender ultimately shapes her novel into a collection of satirical pieces directed
towards society. Through the individual messages portrayed in the stories, including Dearth,
Debbieland, and Motherfucker, Bender exaggerates and criticizes problems in society. Ultimately, the
satirical aspects of each story connect them with each other and makes Willful Creatures a work of
criteria to humanity. Each story portrays a different assessment of social issues. Take for instance,
Dearth presents a story about a lonely woman and her potatoes that transform into potato children. The
protagonist of Dearth is thrown into a messy motherhood and is forced to deal with taking care of the
newly born potato children ( Willful Creatures ). For a decent amount of the story, the protagonist
resents the potatoes and tries to do whatever she can to get rid of them, such as throwing them outside
or burying them in her yard (Bender 154 and 163). Her neglect and mistreatment of the potatoes are
utilized as a criteria to the ignorance that people feel towards their

Acetaldeunge Lab Report
For example the wave numbers of v (C=O) absorptions for the following compounds:
Formaldehyde (HCHO) 1750 cm 1.
Acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) 1745 cm 1.
Acetone (CH3COCH3) 1715 cm 1.
Introduction of an electronegative group causes I effect which results in the bond order to increase.
Hence the force constant increases and the wave number of absorption rises. MESOMERIC EFFECT
It is responsible for lengthening or the weakening of a bond thus causing lowering of absorption
frequency. Since nitrogen atom is less electronegative than oxygen atom, the electron pair on nitrogen
atom in amide is more labile and hence it participates more in conjugation.
Due to this greater degree of conjugation, the C=O absorption frequency is much less in amides as
compared to that in esters.
FIELD EFFECT In ortho substituted compounds, the lone pair of electrons on two atoms influences
each other through space interactions and changes the vibrational frequencies of both the groups.
This effect is called field effect. Interpretation of spectra
1. N H stretching vibrations (secondary amine) Secondary amines show a single weak band in the
3350 3310 cm 1 region. These bands are shifted to longer wavelengths than primary amines due to
hydrogen bonding. The position, intensity and the breadth of the band indicates whether the group is
free, exhibit intermolecular hydrogen bonding.
2. C H stretching vibrations (Aromatic/Aliphatic) Aromatic C H stretching bands occur between 3100
and 3000 cm 1. Weak combination and overtone bands appear in the 2000 1650 cm 1 region. The
absorption due to C H stretch from methyl or methylene groups occur in the region of 3000 2840 cm 1
3. Ring stretching vibrations (C=C C=N stretching vibrations) Ring stretching vibrations occur in the
general region between 1600 and 1300 cm 1. The relative intensities and the band pattern depend on
the substitution pattern and the nature of the substituent. 4 C N stretching vibrations (secondary
amines) Aromatic amines display strong C N stretching absorption in the 1342 1266 cm 1 region.

Philosophical Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
The novella, Candide, by Voltaire, was published in 1759 during the enlightenment period. Voltaire
wrote this book to satirize the concept of philosophical optimism, or the belief that everything is
always for the best. Throughout the book, the main character, Candide, and various other characters
with differing views on life, travel around the world overcoming many obstacles for the sole purpose
of Candide finding the woman he loved, Cunegonde. Voltaire s characterization of several main
figures in the book demonstrates a new concept: the idea that philosophical optimism leads to a lack of
compassion. In the novella, Candide, Voltaire introduces the idea that philosophical optimism leads to
a lack of compassion through the characterization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pangloss possesses a certain amount of optimism that blinds him from all realistic thought. Pangloss
believes that everything is for the best; this ideal leads to other unrealistic concepts, such as the idea
that certain situations in this world were predetermined, and the only reason anything exists is for
another specific, pre planned thing to occur; whatever horrible thing happens was meant to happen all
along, and is, of course, for the best. For example, when Pangloss and Candide travel to Lisbon, they
are hit with a terrible storm. After one of the sailors on the ship is thrown out and killed, Pangloss
appears largely unfazed, Voltaire describes the situation, He tried to throw himself after him into the
sea; he was prevented by the philosopher Pangloss, who proved to him that the Lisbon roads had been
expressly created for the Anabaptist to be drowned in them (14). This way of thinking presents itself
as incompassion because Pangloss was showing little regard for people facing great trouble, due to his
belief that their problems are essential to other predestined events to occur. Pangloss s absurd set of
values appear again when he and Candide do reach Lisbon. There happens to be an earthquake around
the time of their arrival and many people are killed. When Candide is

Alfred Day Hershey Research Paper
Alfred Day Hershey was born on 4th of December 1908, in Owosso, Michigan. Robert Day Hershey
and Alma Wilbur Hershey were his biological parents. While his father worked for an auto
manufacturer, Alfred attended public schools in Owosso and nearby Lansing. He studied Bachelor of
Science in Bacteriology from Michigan State College in 1930 and he earned his Ph.D. in chemistry
from the same school in 1934. Hershey s interest in bacteriology and the biochemistry of life was
clearly noticeable. His doctoral dissertation was focused on the chemistry of Brucella, the bacteria
responsible for brucellosis, also known as undulant fever. Undulant fever is transmitted to humans
from cattle and causes recurrent fevers and joint pain. After receiving his Ph.D., Hershey took a
position as a research assistant in the Department of Bacteriology at the Washington University School
of Medicine in St. Louis. There he worked with Jacques Jacob Bronfenbrenner, one of the pioneers in
bacteriophage research in the United States. By continuing to search and understand the reproduction
of viruses, the simplest form of life, Alfred Day Hershey made important discoveries about the nature
of deoxyribonucleic acid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1945, he demonstrated that phages have the capability of spontaneous mutation. Faced with a
bacterial culture known to be resistant to phage attack, most, but not all, phages would die. By
mutating, some phages survived to attack the bacteria and replicate. This finding was significant
because it showed that mutations did not occur gradually, but rather occurred immediately and
spontaneously in viruses. He explained that if different strains of phages infected the same bacterial
cell, they could combine or exchange genetic material. It was the first time viruses were shown to
combine genetic material. Hershey called this phenomenon genetic

How Did The Triangular Trade Affect The Spread Of African...
Many wonder about the spread of the African race. The answer to that mystery leads back to the
Transatlantic Slave Trade/Middle Passage. The Transatlantic Slave Trade/ Middle Passage is the
reason for the wide spread of the African society altogether. The first stage included manufactured
goods like clothing, food, and artilleries and transporting them from Europe to Africa. The second
stage was known as the Middle Passage where the enslaved Africans would be shipped to the
Americas. The third and final stage of the trade was the shipment of the produce from the enslaved
Africans to Europe. The fifteenth century is when the trade began, and the Portuguese interests for
Africa turned from its natural resources and into its people who they will pursue as slaves. The
triangular trade included the Americas, England, and Europe. ... Show more content on

Africans were being forced to different lands. The forced removal caused the separation of tribes and
families. Prior to the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Africa was well rounded. The great country was filled
with historical monuments and valuables. The communities were diversified and most were politically
stable. For example, some were kingdoms and others were city states. In some kingdoms like the
empire of Songhai, many advancements were taking place. The people of the kingdom were learning
and engaging in the advancement of art and technology. Also, many would create items using
domestic resources like ivory, gold, and bronze for local trade and use. Many Africans were
resourceful which demonstrates their brilliance and uniqueness. Africans role in the world is more
than significant. Africa has an overwhelming amount of things to offer. The Transatlantic Slave Trade
caused a huge twist in the world for every single country. Europeans greed caused many groups,
colonies, and tribes to internationally

Tyson Foods Projected Revenues, Current Assets, and...
Tyson Foods
In the last few quarters, Tyson Foods has been facing tremendous pressures from rising food prices
and slumping demand for their products. However, in spite of these issues, Wall Street analysts are
optimistic that the company will realize strong annual growth in the next two years. To fully
understand what is taking place requires carefully examining how current assets and liabilities are
impacting executives strategies. ( Tyson Foods, 2012) ( Tyson Foods, 2013) (Graham, 1976)
This will be accomplished by looking at: next year s revenues forecast (based upon a 20% increase),
working capital recommendations that can be utilized to increase the bottom line results, the effects of
this rise on the firm s working capital policy and lessons learned / areas for further development in the
future. Together, these elements will highlight the underlying strengths and weaknesses of the
company in the long term. It is at this point when specific recommendations can be provided to help
managers effectively deal with these issues. ( Tyson Foods, 2012) ( Tyson Foods, 2013) (Graham,
1976)
Assume next year s forecasted revenues increase by 20%.Â
If the company is able to see an increase in revenues by 20%, it means that Tyson Foods will see an
improvement in the current assets and liabilities by similar amounts. This will help the firm to have a
stronger balance sheet from increased demand for their products. These changes will create higher
costs for feed, chicken,

  • 2. The Effects Of Social Media On Society Essay Social media has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. Are we as a society becoming more concerned with Facebook friends than we are with the people we interact with face to face in our daily lives? What will the longterm effects of today s social media use be? There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as many dangers that come with the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming sites, and blogs. Social media has both negative and positive effects on society, it is up to the user to decide what impact they want to make. In order to make the right choices, we must dig in and research this topic thoroughly. Recent research has documented how technology, and social networking sites (SNS; e.g., Facebook, Instagram) in particular, have given rise to a growing obsession with impression management and self presentation online. Whether it s searching for the perfect Instagram photo filter or carefully crafting a humblebrag Facebook status about a recent publication, users frequently engage in selective self presentation strategies to portray an ideal self through social media (Chou Edge, 2012; Manago, Graham, Greenfield, Salimkhan, 2008). In turn, we seek out social approval and positive feedback in the form of comments and likes. With steep increases in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor The percentage of people who say they believe in God, pray, frequently go to religious services, embrace minimal religious practices or find their faith meaningful has declined over the last 50 years. A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded. This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor, wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She, in her short stories and books of fiction, did not describe beautiful rooms or people living happily ever after; she wrote about the human condition in the American South and the state of religious conviction. She wrote about unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. She believed the South was haunted by religion but as a group were literally swimming in mediocrity, cynicism and emptiness a rough and tumble nihilism. They might say their faith mattered or attended services, but many were just lying to their neighbors and themselves. To her, they were just checking the box with a faith bordering on tepid and pathetic. She felt, given their current status, they would not know a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nearly all living things depend on energy produced from photosynthesis for their nourishment, making it vital to life on Earth. The surface of the leaf is uniformly coated with a water resistant waxy cuticle that protects the leaf from excessive absorption of light and evaporation of water. The transparent, colourless epidermis layer allows light to pass through to the mesophyll cells where most of the photosynthesis takes place. To metabolic pathways involved in photosynthesis are light reaction and dark reaction. The first stage of the photosynthetic system is the light dependent reaction, which converts solar energy into chemical energy. Light absorbed by chlorophyll or other photosynthetic pigments is used to drive a transfer of electrons and hydrogen from water to and acceptor called NADP , reducing it to the form of NADPH by adding a pair of electrons and a single proton. The water or some other donor molecule is split in the process. The light reaction also generates ADP, a process called photophosphorylation. ATP is a versatile source of chemical energy used in most biological processes. The light reaction produces no carbohydrates such as sugars. In photosynthesis, the dark reactions are chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and other compounds into glucose. These reactions unlike light dependent reactions do not need light to occur. These reactions take the products of the light dependent reactions and perform further chemical processes on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often times child victims are psychologically and even physically harmed jeopardizing their statements during the trial. There are a number of reasons for children to be unable to give full accounts of what has occurred to them. For the purpose of protecting child victims and making sure they are heard the courts have implemented innovations that make testifying less traumatic for children and allow for a more accurate description of the assault. The Effect of Hearsay Witness Age in a Child Sexual assault case from the journal Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, authors Jonathan M. Golding, Mary C Alexander, and Terri L. Stewart discuss how jurors view hearsay witnesses and if the age of the hearsay witness effects their perception of the credibility of hearsay witness. A study was done with male and female participants, who read a fictional court case summary about a sexual assault. The court case summary involved a 7, 16, or 25 year old hearsay witness testifying on behalf of a 6 or 15 year old victim. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) The case included the testimony of one primary witness, a hearsay witness, or a clinical psychologist. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) The authors begin by explaining the purpose of child hearsay testimonies and when hearsay witnesses are permitted, a child s words are hearsay if (a) the child s words were intended by the child to describe something that happened, (b) the child s words were spoken prior to the court proceeding at which the words are repeated by someone who heard the child speak, and (c) the child s words are offered in court to prove that what the child said actually happened. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) hearsay isn t always permitted in order to keep the trail from becoming unfair. The authors discuss different studies that have been done on hearsay testimonies and whether these studies have shown hearsay to be reliable and warranted. One study that is described ended with jurors believing the hearsay witness just as much as the victim testifying on her own behalf, the reasons for this, as the article explains, is the mock jurors may have seen the hearsay witness as a surrogate who is simply retelling the child s story (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) second jurors may feel the need to punish someone because sexual assault is seen as such a horrible crime, third the hearsay ... • 7. How Does Shakespeare Use Natural Imagery In Titus Andronicus Natural imagery and references to nature are found throughout The Spanish Tragedy and Titus Andronicus. In Kyd s play Hieronimo s garden serves as the setting for no less than three important scenes, including the pivotal scene in which the bloody corpse of Horatio is discovered hanging from a bower by his father. Titus Andronicus also employs a natural setting as the scene of criminal activity, for Lavinia is savagely raped and mutilated and her husband is murdered while the two are walking in the forest. Also, Marcus and Titus use pastoral language in their descriptions of the handless Lavinia, comparing her to a fountain spewing forth blood and to a tree with its branches lopped 9ff.,·These natural images are not included in the two plays for ornamentation; rather, I feel that Kyd and Shakespeare include these images because nature had many connotations for their audience. To most Elizabethans, the natural and unspoiled world was God s handiwork, and nature was seen as a benificent force in the world. The image of defiled nature which is presented in both The Spanish Tragedy and Titus Andronicus would undoubtedly have had a shocking dramatic impact on Kyd s and Shakespeare s audiences. The Renaissance concept of nature differs vastly from that of the 12 13 twentieth century. According to Isabel Rivers, the modern scholar or student approaches Renaissance literature with an obvious disadvantage because he does not share the same views, beliefs and preconceptions as the ... The purpose of this project is to see if there is the ability to gain enough electrolytes without the need to use a beverage with high sugar/calorie content. Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the beverages with the most electrolytes would have the least amount of calories and the beverages with the least electrolytes will have the most calories because calories in beverages are usually from sugar while electrolytes are made up of salt, calcium, potassium. While experts agree that fathers play a crucial role in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being of children, nonetheless there remains a growing ideology within our society today, from men and women alike, that touts no legitimate need for fathers to exist within the family framework. Thus, the poisonous fingers of fatherlessness have clasped a death grip over every aspect of society. It can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most everyone knows about this role. This is a male; which for whatever reason has left his family behind. He neglects any and all responsibility for his family, thus he offers little to no financial or emotional support (Blankenhorn, 1995). According to the US Census Bureau, 47.3% of custodial mothers received all child support that they were owed and 77.5% received some (Bureau, 2012). The Shadow Dad The Shadow Dad is a man that has left the home, and is not intentionally involved in family life or decisions. While some Shadow Dads offer the occasional drop in visit here and there, 40% of their children haven t seen their father in a year (The National Center for Fathering, 2015). The Shadow Dad offers minimal responsibility as he maintains child support, loves his children, and causes no trouble. However, he is simply not around, thus leaving an ever deepening painful void as the children grow (Blankenhorn, 1995). • 24. Mexican American Relations Of The Past And The Present Essay After thinking well about our class and the sociological symbols of power what first comes to my mind is the border. Seemingly enough I first had an idea to do my paper on the narcotics trafficking but I stumbled across a few good articles that support my thesis to my paper. In my paper my goal of is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants. A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This initiative was able to pass even ... • 25. Support System In Kewauna s Ambition By Paul Tough Success: a word that is defined as being good at what you do and how you do it. There are many elements of success. Some key elements are grit, a support system and commitment. Grit is having the strength to never give up when things get tough, no matter how tough situations get. Having a support system is having people by your side helping you get through anything and everything in the best way they can! Commitment is keeping up with something and sticking with it every step of the way until the job is done. Kewauna, from Kewauna s Ambition , a portion from How Children Succeed , written by Paul Tough, showed those three elements: grit by never giving up, having a support system that included a tutor, family and classmates, and determination while she tried her hardest to do her best every day while attempting to escape her former lifestyle and being enrolled in a program. Newman, there are five things that all school shooters have in common. At some point in their life, they were seen as different in some way, shape, or form. All shooters also suffer from some sort of depression. Because of the depression, they look to be problem solvers. They want to be known and get the glamour and street credit. They crave the power, status, and history. They feel as if the glorious feeling of death will cure the quiet, dark, and alone side that they have. The shooter also broadcasts their intentions and the attacks are never spontaneous. By giving little hints, they try to gain friends and keep the ones they have safe. Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that are not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crime tend to impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated, unconscious woman behind a dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. Neutralisation is the process of learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the crime. Brock Turner s case is wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an exception to otherwise proportionate punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim s statement, media coverage and the public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association to get a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently punished. Although each story has its own plot and characters, the overall effect produced individually ties the book together into one single work. Whether the story is about a woman and her potatoes, a girl who is bullied throughout her life, or a man who has intercourse with single mothers, the problems of society is enlightened. Bender ultimately shapes her novel into a collection of satirical pieces directed towards society. Through the individual messages portrayed in the stories, including Dearth, Debbieland, and Motherfucker, Bender exaggerates and criticizes problems in society. Ultimately, the satirical aspects of each story connect them with each other and makes Willful Creatures a work of criteria to humanity. Each story portrays a different assessment of social issues. Take for instance, Dearth presents a story about a lonely woman and her potatoes that transform into potato children. The protagonist of Dearth is thrown into a messy motherhood and is forced to deal with taking care of the newly born potato children ( Willful Creatures ). For a decent amount of the story, the protagonist resents the potatoes and tries to do whatever she can to get rid of them, such as throwing them outside or burying them in her yard (Bender 154 and 163). • 42. Acetaldeunge Lab Report For example the wave numbers of v (C=O) absorptions for the following compounds: Formaldehyde (HCHO) 1750 cm 1. Acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) 1745 cm 1. Acetone (CH3COCH3) 1715 cm 1. Introduction of an electronegative group causes I effect which results in the bond order to increase. Hence the force constant increases and the wave number of absorption rises. MESOMERIC EFFECT It is responsible for lengthening or the weakening of a bond thus causing lowering of absorption frequency. Since nitrogen atom is less electronegative than oxygen atom, the electron pair on nitrogen atom in amide is more labile and hence it participates more in conjugation. Due to this greater degree of conjugation, the C=O absorption frequency is much less in amides as compared to that in esters. FIELD EFFECT In ortho substituted compounds, the lone pair of electrons on two atoms influences each other through space interactions and changes the vibrational frequencies of both the groups. This effect is called field effect. Interpretation of spectra 1. N H stretching vibrations (secondary amine) Secondary amines show a single weak band in the 3350 3310 cm 1 region. These bands are shifted to longer wavelengths than primary amines due to hydrogen bonding. The position, intensity and the breadth of the band indicates whether the group is free, exhibit intermolecular hydrogen bonding. 2. C H stretching vibrations (Aromatic/Aliphatic) Aromatic C H stretching bands occur between 3100 and 3000 cm 1. Weak combination and overtone bands appear in the 2000 1650 cm 1 region. He explained that if different strains of phages infected the same bacterial cell, they could combine or exchange genetic material.
