The Jesuits Research Paper
The Jesuits, also known as the Society of Jesus, are an all male Roman Catholic order that was
founded by Ignatius Loyola in 1540. The primary message of the Jesuits are to find God in all things ,
and to make men and women for others . Each Jesuit takes a vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
The current pope of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, is a Jesuit. The Jesuit order is committed to
doing justice all around the world. In Cleveland the Jesuits can be found at Gesu Grade School, St.
Ignatius High School, and John Carroll University. In Cleveland, the Jesuit order founded St. Ignatius
in 1886. All three Jesuit schools in the Cleveland area are highly active in serving those who need
help, especially those in the inner city. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jesuits and Marianist have many similarities and differences among their communities. In the
Marianist community they too are very much involved in wide variety of people such as, education,
parishes, and spirituality centers. Just as the Jesuits are focused on diversity, so are the Marinist. The
Marianist community consisted of Priest and Brothers which eventually spread to the Sisters, while
the Jesuits are mainly made up of just Priests and Brothers. The mission of the Marianist is to seek the
gospel through service and the lives of others. With the guidance of Mary, the Marianist work together
to find faith to help serve others for their dignity, liberation, and justice. The Marianist look at Mary as
a model of faith and guidance to help carry out God s plan to serve others. Mary is their model of
faith, just as Jesus is the Jesuits model of faith. Marianist put the presence of Jesus among not only
themselves but for others. Both Jesuits and Marianists value living, praying, and supporting the
community which strengthens the world, mainly those in poverty. The Marianists has a similar
mission statement to the Jesuits as they both live in a community as equals. The difference between
each of the mission statements are that the Marianists minister with the youth and solidarity of the
poor. Both religious orders contribute to today s society by making Cleveland a better place through
work of God and His

Genghis Khan Dbq
The grasslands of Central Asia are known as steppes. In ancient times the only people that lived there
were pastoralists. These were nomadic people who survived by herding animals who fed on grass, the
only plants that grew there. The land and harsh environment taught these nomadic people to be harsh
and do what was necessary The people of this land were viewed as uncivilized and barbaric by settled
people. However, one such group ,known as the Mongols, soon conquered much of what was the
known world. They amassed a power to rival and overtake the existing Chinese military and they
created an era of peace within China for 300 years. Maybe these people weren t so barbaric and
uncivilized after all.
In the year 1167 a boy was born who would change the outlook on the Mongols forever. He was

Temuchin achieved the leadership position he had fought for, the people gave him the name Genghis

tricks, psychological warfare, and extraordinary organization to bring his enemies to their knees. A
quote from the History of the Mongols says that, They send a detachment of captives and men of other
nationalities who are fighting with them to meet the enemy head on, and some of the Tartars
(Mongols) may perhaps accompany them. Other columns of stronger men they dispatch far off to the

Speech On Our Road Sense
Don t we all remember that famous advertisement by a tyre company where a couple enjoying a late
night ride on their bike are almost rammed into by a car which takes a wrong turn and they are saved
just in time because of the superior tyres? Or the one where a careless guy with a baby in a pram is
talking over the mobile phone while he crosses the road and is almost run over a biker but for his good
brakes and tyres? And to top it all, the one with the pram swears at the biker instead of apologizing and
owning up his fault! I could cite a whole book full of such scenarios that aptly describe India s road
sense. The street are indeed filled with idiots, be it out of lack of civic sense or otherwise. And what s
even more annoying is the fact that we tend not to care much about it and take it all in stride as
something very normal. It is said that just knowing what is wrong lays the foundation of the future
right (if any). Here is a compilation of the sad state of our road sense (remember, brevity is a virtue
which really tested me here, trying to come up with as few examples as I could, given our
inconspicuous road sense).

cannot drive slowly at all. I am sure some of them are too delusional to know the difference between

Absurdity in Beckett, Pinter and Shakespeare

Shakespeare Written by: Anas Kamal Khanfar 10507510 Supervised by: Dr.Odeh Odeh In Partial
Fulfillment of the Requirements of the B.A. Degree in English 2nd Semester 2008/2009 Literature
review Life is absurd as a game of chess which is played by a blind man and a sighted man from the
point of view of the observer to the patient. In this paper, absurdity is observed and detected in a
critical point of view that covers Shakespeare s Hamlet , Beckett s Endgame and Pinter s The Birthday
Party . Absurdity in these works is at two levels which are character s absurdity and language s
absurdity. Bradbrook ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The role of Hamlet is absurd in the play in the sense that he keeps his life purposeless. Psychologically
speaking, Hamlet suffers from a psychological illness that prevents him to find his way. Throughout
all the play, he is a floating man who can not make one good or reasonable conclusion. He restricts his
mind in the words of the ghost of his dead father. This psychological state of Hamlet makes him trace
nothing by the means of nothing that he keeps sailing in his ideas in the whole play. Hamlet can not
trust any one except himself because he expects that some of them participate in the conspiracy
against his father. Kott (1967) considers the absurdity in Hamlet s character by examining his
character as a player in revenge drama. He says that a game of murder is totally absurd especially
when the character is involved in game without having any piece of information about the killer
except for the apparition of his father. When Hamlet discovers that his mother marries his uncle, he
starts to theorize and throw statements that empty the anger and depression inside him: Fie on t, ah,
fie! tis an unweeded garden That grows to seed, things rank and gross in nature Posses it merely. That
it should come (to this)! But two months dead, nay, not so much, not two So excellent a king that was

Examples Of Narcissistic Defence
Narcissistic defence
Narcissistic defences are often seen in psychotic individuals, people who are out of touch with reality,
they are the most prominent defences. Here I have selected projection and denial as the two
narcissistic defence mechanisms in relation to Moses Sithole.
Projection
When referring to projection we define it as, perceiving and reacting to unacceptable inner impulses
and their derivate as though they were outside the self (Kaplan Sadock s, 2015, p.161). We can
speculate that Moses, put his feelings of being falsely accused of raping Buyiswa Doris Swakamisaas
a wrong doing on to all his victims (as they all reminded him of her doing wrong unto him), so
therefore he saw them as doing wrong unto him so he needed to ... Show more content on

Through Moses, life he denied ever rapping Buyiswa Doris Swakamisa, his first rap victim who took
him to court. He maintained his innocence through the trial, furthermore when put on trial for the 40
rapes; 38 murders and five robberies he pleaded not guilty for all the charges. We could speculate that
capable of such horrible things, could not accept the painful reality of how he hurt these victims, but
projecting his feelings onto them. He denies the truth so that he is able to live with himself and be
okay, because if Moses truelly accepted what he did to 78 families, as a human being I would
speculate that he wouldn t be able to live with himself. Robbing those women of ever becoming a
sister, a mother, a grandmother. He took each and every one of those women s lives because he could
not accept or didn t want to accept the reality that he rapped Buyiswa Doris Swakamisa and went to
jail for it (where he fell a victim to his own crime i.e. in his interview he spoke of how he was raped
while in prison) and on releases many women had to be objectified to his denial, of not being able to
accept that this is the human being he has

Comparing Pride In Othello And Oedipus The King
Tragedies that befall a true hero in a play sometimes are caused by that person s pride. Oedipus and
Othello show readers the true character of being a tragic hero and show how pride can lead to
devastating consequences. Pride s effect on individuals can be subtle from the start, and more often
than not will manifest itself fully when that person realizes, from their actions, the consequences of
being prideful. Sophocles and Shakespeare both write about prideful men in their plays Oedipus Rex
and The Tragedy of Othello. The prideful actions each man takes, which they believe to be noble,
causes their lives and the lives of the people around them to be ruined by tragedy. From these tragic
tales, we can compare the way each man rose to power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello also goes through change; from a man who constantly is aware of how reputation dictates a
man position in society to a man full of shame from losing said reputation because of the terrible
actions he takes in a fit of rage. Othello s change was mainly due to him listening to the lies Iago told
about Desdemona and Cassio. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and compatriot, was a
villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he lost all self control and
committed a horrible act. Unlike Oedipus, Othello could have chosen his own fate. He was not bound
by any gods will and could have inquired more about the so called truths Iago was telling him about
his wife, but by listening to Iago, and like Oedipus, he also loses those things most important to him.
First, he loses his love Desdemona by suffocating her. Even though he was her killer, they both shared
a love that she wanted to save; and from her deathbed, she forgave him by lying about who was her
killer. When asked by Emilia, O, who hath done this deed (1535), Desdemona replies, Nobody I
myself (1535). The second loss to Othello, like Oedipus, was his reputation and position in society.
Since the truth about Desdemona s death was known, Othello was stripped

Indigenous African Religions
South Africans have always prided themselves on how rich and diverse their country is. This beautiful
country consists of many different cultures each so diverse but yet influencing each other in such an
immense way. In this essay I will be critically analyzing both the San hunter gatherers and the Bantu
speaking farmers in every aspect of their unique cultures; how these two groups met and how they
influenced each other. I will also discuss the influence the Colonists had on indigenous African
cultures and if it is appropriate to refer to all the indigenous cultures as one collective group of people

mostly it was by men. This group of people did not believe in ancestral spirits and had no special way
of burial. The San people had an egalitarian social structure with no kings and chiefs, all living equally
on the land they believed everybody owned. The San where humble peaceful people, using only what
they needed. The Bantu speaking farmers. The Bantu speaking farmers came to southern Africa
around the 10th century as a strong group of people, with more developed weapons and social
structures. They believed in one Supreme Being, who created and maintained everything, they did not
worship this Supreme Being. They did however believe in ancestral spirits who greatly influenced
their lives. If the ancestral spirits would become angry they would offer them beer and/or animal
sacrifice followed by a communal meal with extended family to keep the spirits happy. As far as
rituals go the Bantu speaking people have life cycle rituals for example birth, they believe that a child
is born from the spirit realm into its new home. Because this is considered dangerous the woman
giving birth need to be in isolation for ten days accompanied by married women. Another life cycle
ritual is initiation for adolescents who are entering adulthood by teaching boys to be good husbands
and warriors and girls to be good wives and homemakers.

Amish Cultural Values And Beliefs
The Amish are a secluded religious group with the majority living in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
They avoid modernization and the typical American lifestyle. This writer is from Indiana and
remembers seeing a slow moving large black object early one morning moving across an interstate
overpass. It was beautiful and fascinating as the giant horse was solid black, the carriage was black
and the gentleman was wearing all black. The sun was just rising and it woke this writer up while
driving with heavy eyes. This paper seeks to explore Amish cultural values, beliefs, and attitudes in
order to provide culturally competent nursing health care. It is imperative for nurses to provide
culturally competent care because nurses serve as patient advocates. This role includes respecting the
rights and dignity of all patients. Nurses are not necessarily as culturally diverse as the populations
they serve, so it is important to learn about different cultures such as the Amish.

Amish are humble in behavior and language and they avoid drawing attention to themselves,
therefore, an individual psychological study is usually avoided (Knabb, Vogt, Newgren, 2011). It
seems that the Amish do not easily wish to seek mental health services as well as medical services in
general. Most likely there is the same sense of stigma associated with mental health care as it is
experienced in traditional American

A Research Study On Clinical Research
1. Describe the type(s) of internship(s) you are seeking this summer.
This summer, I have been seeking clinical research internships. These include any research that is
conducted in a hospital setting and correlates to patients. I would be developing my research skills in a
laboratory setting while also developing intrapersonal skills working with patients. The research that I
have conducted at the University of Richmond has been invaluable; however, I plan on applying to an
MD/PhD program and I feel that clinical research would be a more valuable experience for this
upcoming summer.
I have applied to a clinical research internship at Stanford University that focuses on training
undergraduate students who are perusing a MD/PhD. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internship will provide me with a challenging opportunity to develop skills pertaining to clinical
research that will further benefit me on my career path.
I have also looked into clinical research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania through an
inquiry form outlining my interests. This has the ability to match me to various laboratories. This was
not an official application, but my information has been passed along to faculty mentors at the
Hospital.
2. Why do you want to intern this summer?
I believe the summer is the perfect opportunity to jump into something new and challenging in order
to develop one s intellect and character. My ultimate career goal is to become a physician scientist and
I feel using the summer to gain clinical skills earlier on will positively impact my career trajectory.
During my undergraduate experience, I have not had many opportunities to conduct clinical research,
but I am eager to learn new skills immerse myself in learning opportunities. Furthermore, an
internship can provide me with unique networking opportunities to learn not only from my internship
mentor, but other physician scientists and interns as well. Currently, I do not have the place to gain
such connections but I am eager to form them.
My experience at Richmond has allowed me to hone basic research skills, volunteer in a clinical
setting, and

Who Is The Most Powerful Greek Women
The Powerful Women of Greek Mythology
Women in Greek Mythology were not portrayed as powerless by any means. They were the opposite
of powerless. I have chosen just a handful of women figures of Greek Mythology. These women range
from the Amazons to Hera, the queen of gods.
The Amazons were fierce female warriors who were believed to be greatly skilled as horse riders, and
with bows, arrows, and swords. The most famous Amazon is Wonder Woman, the princess of
Themiscyra. She was shown to possess all of the skills mentioned above, along with other skills.
These female warriors are now debated as to whether they have ever existed or if they were just a
myth. They were depicted as having been involved in the fall of Troy in the Trojan War. The warriors
are also depicted in the foundation legend of Athens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

concerned with avenging her mother due to Hera s casting Leto out of Mount Olympus after she
became pregnant with Artemis and Apollo. There are a few myths where Artemis is shown as
powerful and vengeful. Once, Aktaionas, the son of Autonois and Aristaeus, happened to see Artemis
naked, in the time she was taking her bath. The goddess, fearing that the incident would spread,

Literature Review on Childhood Obesity Essay
Literature Review on Childhood Obesity By: Obesity is a growing problem among U.S. children. In
1994, one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 was overweight. This is double the rate of 30
years ago (National Center for Health Statistics, 1999). This adverse trend has potentially profound
effects on children s health, including their long term health. The terms obese and overweight often
are used interchangeably. Technically, obesity is the upper end of overweight. Obesity is clinically
diagnosed as: greater than 90th percentile for weight for height; or greater than or equal to the 95th
percentile Body Mass Index (BMI), age and sex specific. The gold standard is becoming the BMI,
since this is also used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researches studies differ on whether obese consume more energy (calories) than non obese
individuals. Some show they do consume more; others show they may consumer fewer calories. The
big difference may be in the type of nutrients that they consume, such as fat. For example, Gazzaniga,
found that the percentage of body fat was positively correlated with total dietary fat. Still, other
researchers suggest that the reasons are metabolic in origin and that obese individuals process foods
differently resulting in an increase in body fat. Although how these factors affect obesity are not fully
understood, one thing is clear: Obesity results when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure and is
stored as fat. Ellyn Satter (1987), author of Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense, firmly
believes in the importance of the feeding relationship and its implications for obesity. The feeding
relationship is the interaction that takes place between parents and children around food. Obese
children need to learn to listen to their internal cues of hunger and appetite. Parents and childcare
providers must help them do so. This includes encouraging children to eat according to these cues,
while acknowledging the emotional aspect of feeding and eating. A restrictive diet may make the child
feel deprived and neglected, and exacerbate the overeating problem. Children and adolescents who
watched the most TV were more obese than

Unfair Treatment during the Scottsboro Trials
In the 1930 s teenagers from across the country were leaving their homes to search for jobs due to the
extreme poverty caused by the Great Depression. Whether it was blacks or whites, they were all
affected one way or the other by the nation s economical failure. It became popular for the young men
and women to travel by freight trains to arrive to the places with better job opportunities. Around this
time blacks were still not treated fairly, even in poverty. In the Scottsboro case in Alabama two white
woman prostitutes falsely accused nine African American youths of rape on a freight train car; the
boys were convicted in every trial due to the prejudices of an all white jury, and they had an attorney
with little to no motivation to put any effort into their defense.
The boys of the Scottsboro trials were never treated fairly from the beginning. The whole journey was
filled with misconception. The journey began on the freight train, there was nine African Americans
on a train car and with them, was a group of Caucasian men. It all started with one of the white males
stepping on the hand of one of the blacks. Not too long after, the white males threatened the nine boys
to leave the train car (Doc). After the nine black males refused their threat, a fight broke out between
all of them. All of the members of the white group were thrown off the train, all, but one. The one that
was left on the train went and reported the fight to the train conductor.

Apollonianism And Dionysianism In The Greek God Brothers
There is two sides to everything, the good and the evil, the wise will say that it is best to have both.
The similarities that both Greek god brothers, Apollo and Dionysus, have with both East of Eden
brothers, Aron and Cal are identical in some aspects. An individual can choose to carry themselves
with behaviors that are either Apollonian or Dionysian, a mixture of both helps find a healthy balance
that will let an individual live a life at its full potential without causing damage to oneself or others.
Aron and Cal have clashing personalities that create a different environment in their lives and their
relationship with their father. Friedrich Nietzsche discussed the Apollonian and Dionysian
philosophies in the essay Apollonianism and Dionysianism, by contrasting and comparing them he
was able to create concepts that can be tied down to how an individual chooses to live and the
outcome they will create with the lifestyle they carry. He believes that the two forces of Apollonianism
and Dionysianism can be unified to have a diversity of characteristics in a person and that way the
artist is born. Nietzsche portrays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theory of Attachment and Attachment Styles Essay examples
Attachment is the emotional bond between humans, which is based on our relationship with a parent
or early caregiver during the years of childhood. There are four different attachment styles secure,
preoccupied, dismissive, and fearful each describing a different way in which individuals interact with
others, approach social and romantic relationships, and deal with life.
Each attachment style is divided along two dimensions the fear of abandonment and the fear of

The preoccupied attachment style is characterized by low fear of closeness and high fear of
abandonment. Individuals classified as preoccupied have a negative model of themselves. Because
preoccupies see themselves as unworthy of love and unsupportive, they tend to strive for self
acceptance by gaining the acceptance of valued others (Bartholomew, 227) and would do everything
to keep people in their life; Preoccupied individuals try to avoid any kind of conflict in order to make
themselves loveable and others happy. Despite the fact that preoccupies often see others as trustworthy
and available, they also feel that others do not care about them as much as they care about others.
Somebody I would classify as preoccupied would be my ex boyfriend. He always felt that other
people around him would not care as much about him as he cared about them. He was worried that I
would not love him as much as he loved me and that I would not return his love. Whenever I broke up
with him, he became upset; he talked to my parents and friends, texted me every day and tried to
convince me to go back to him.
My ex boyfriend tried to avoid any kind of conflict not just with me, but also with his parents just to
keep us happy. However, every time we had a conflict, he either agreed with me or felt bad afterwards
and was afraid that I would not love him anymore.

Mexican American Males and Alcoholism

Mexican American Males and Alcoholism Drinking alcohol is a behavior that diverse ethnicities and
cultures have adapted as a form of leisure, celebration, socialization, or cultural practice. Mexican
American males have engaged in drinking alcohol for all of these reasons. It is important to analyze
the process of acculturation Mexican American experience and how it affects their ability to persuade
and control their alcohol consumption. The stress of adjusting to a new place than the one they have
been accustomed to and have already been accepted in, can lead males to drink alcohol to help them in
coping with their issues. The gravity of extreme alcohol drinking is also ... Show more content on

Lastly, access to alcohol in Mexico is not a difficult obstacle to overcome. Therefore, males who
migrated to the U.S. have already been heavily exposed to alcohol. These points are not to prove that
alcoholism among Mexican American men is caused entirely by the exposure of Mexico s customs,
but to outline the different reasons why a male might fall in alcoholism. A male who migrates to the
U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S. as mentioned
before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation. Dealing with the
stress of leaving behind natal customs to adapt new values and behaviors can result heavy alcohol
consumption. Even though the Mexican culture has already shaped the behavior of drinking in males,
it is still different from the American drinking behaviors. Mexican men drink less frequently, but more
heavily, while Americans drink more frequently, but not so heavily (Gilbert and Cervantes 1987).
Clearly a combination of both as a form of dealing with stress can be catastrophic. During the
acculturation process the greatest amount of stress can be felt when the feeling of loneliness starts to
settle in. When a male feels he is distanced from his Mexican culture and life style, but not accepted
by the new dominant culture he has been trying to adapt, he is more susceptive to alcoholism

Cognitive Theory And Ego Psychology With Young Domestic...
from birth. Originally, in psychoanalytic theory, Freud believed that the ego was derived from the need
to reconcile drives within the constraints of social living (Hutchison, 2015, p. 132). Now, ego
psychologists view the ego as being present from the time of birth. In comparison to cognitive theory,
ego psychologists believe that there are developmental stages in which the ego goes through. While it
is true that the ego does not need to be learned in order to be in existence, it does have to develop and
adjust to new life situations just as one s cognition goes through developmental stages and must adapt
and adjust to new encounters.

In assessing the client through cognitive theory, K appears to be unable to find equilibrium between
her schema of knowing abuse is wrong and not the victim s fault, and her learned experience of being
abused and having these opinion and thoughts towards herself. In hypothetical situations, she knows
and understands that abuse victims are not to blame for their abuse, but she is unable to assimilate that
information into her lived experience of abuse. The social worker would likely assess K as having
cognitive distortions about personal abuse. In the planning process, the social worker must work to
understand why K has the particular assumptions that she is to blame for the abuse. Planning what
interventions and measures to take with K means listening attentively to the ways in which K
understands and verbalizes her understanding of her abuse and the situation. The social worker must
also work with K to outline possible goals that she wishes to get out of the treatment. In intervention,
the social worker helps the client adjust his or her cognitive process to better facilitate the attainment
of goals (Hutchison, 2015, p. 126). Because the social worker identified a cognitive distortion in the
way K views her personal abuse in relation to hypothetical abuse, intervention should be structured in
bringing equilibrium back to K s schemata about abuse. A social worker that uses ego psychology

Presenting Yourself As An Artifice Essay
The passage suggests that leaders need to have a false relationship with their citizens in order to not
become unreal. To forget the true principles of being a leader is astonishing as there is no better way to
be a leader than to possess the qualities of being competent and sincere. For generations it had been
that way but now we re in different times and the way we view things have changed. The idea of
presenting yourself as an artifice is a problem because people can no longer have an intimate
relationship with their citizens as it no longer calls the their attention. A skill like artiface presents the
people with a leader who is dubious and will not have veracity of plans that will steer his citizens in
the right direction. It may be true that lying is fine in certain situations because it provides you an exit
of a problem, but to have every situation as a fraud is a different case that subjects the people into a
world that has no remedy for the damage dishonesty causes. To begin with, leaders who use artifice
for their own benefit will result in the loss of trust from their citizens for they are portraying a
distorted image that will guide them into downfall. Those who have not mastered the art of
entertainment, who fail to create a narrative or do not have one fashioned for them by handlers, are ...

The Importance Of Body Mass And Speed
Growing up I have always been fascinated with Track and Field. The adrenaline, the time, and speed
were all factors that created interest. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport with a
passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body mass and
height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed?
With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running
depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner can be
a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the runner s body
responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady stride rate and have a
manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to maximize his or her potential.
Background information
Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground
(though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other
animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ).
This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept
mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum
fashion. A characteristic feature of a running body from the viewpoint of spring mass mechanics is
that changes in kinetic and potential energy within a

I Have The Pleasure Of Teaching Maiyuki Druen Essay
I have had the pleasure of teaching Maiyuki Druen for three years; as an 8th grader in Advanced
Geometry, as a sophomore in Math 174 Dual Credit Pre Calculus through Morehead State University,
and currently as a junior in AP Calculus. In 8th grade, Maiyuki chose to arrive at school an hour
earlier in order to take Advanced Geometry at the high school. She was by far the best student in the
class, even though she was in a class of extremely bright freshmen and sophomore high school
students. Constantly pursuing opportunities for herself, as a sophomore, she chose to take a dual credit
class designed for juniors and seniors. She requested special permission in order to take this college
level class as a sophomore, and it was granted based on her stellar academic record. She continues to
push herself academically in my AP Calculus class. She accepts the challenging problems I assign to
the class as an opportunity to further develop her understanding of the mathematics we are studying.
She often spends time analyzing the different approaches to a problem in order to determine the best
course of action, and will diligently work the solution discussing her results with her peers. Often I
will observe her having a discussion about the problem solving process with a fellow student rather
than just conferring about her solution.
While actively engaging in class discussions, she will articulate beautiful solutions in such detail that
even the most struggling students can

The Negative Aspects of Special Rights
Kymlicka believes that nation building is beneficial in developing the identities of the state, he further
goes on to say that we can justify granting special rights to the minorities in a liberal state to protect
them from any injustices (Kymlicka, 2002). Kymlicka does not state exactly what he believes special
rights to be, therefore it is open to many different interpretations. I do not find this argument plausible
because there are many instances in which certain special rights allow the minorities to have more
rights than the majority. This occurs in the case of honour killings and gender equality. Firstly, it
should be noted that the purpose of special rights is to promote equality and ensure all groups have
equal footing. While I agree with this idea in theory, in practice I do not believe it is successful. I
believe this because there are certain cultural traditions that may conflict with others and thus, not
promote equality. For example, honour killings are the homicide of someone by the members of their
family. This occurs when the perpetrator believes that the victim has brought dishonour to the family
by refusing an arranged marriage or engaging in a homosexual relationship, etc. There are a plethora
of reasons behind why someone would commit this type of murder, all of which, are unacceptable in
any civilized society in my opinion. According to Canadian laws and the morals of most Canadian
citizens, murder for any reason is acceptable and against the law.

Essay about The Inadequacy of Paley s Argument from Design
The Inadequacy of the Argument from Design
William Paley s teleological argument (also known as the argument from design) is an attempt to
prove the existence of god. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by an
aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is
dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The
teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but unsound.
The argument fails to apply its own line of reasoning to itself, resulting in infinite regression. Beyond
the scope of its logical flaws, the arguments content lacks accurate comparisons. The argument hinges

Although this type of argument is practical at predicting patterns of re occurring events, they are never
legitimately sound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on end.
Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is not a one
hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe itself.
Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low, the correct
combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution and a reaction
to external stimuli allows life to change naturally.
The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created the
entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture slides, a
committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about who created the
committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed, transcending time
and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the universe. The universe is
as capable of existing forever as a god is.
William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an entity,
it must have been designed. This perceived relation between complexity and design is an inherently

Death Of A Salesman Essay

working only on commission. Exhausted from his work, he also is disturbed by the fact that his well
liked 34 year old son Biff, hasn t lived up to his potential of being a successful businessman. Willy has

The play displayed the social and economic problems occurring in the United States at that time.
Arthur Miller was born into a lower middle class family. His father owned a business of
manufacturing ladies wear that suffered a loss during the Great Depression. According to Sinclair s
article on Death of a Salesman the country came out of the depression when World War II started and
after the War there was an economic boom that increased inner city business and building of
apartment housings. The economic boom brought prosperity for the United States but mostly for the
rich as inflation increased. Typical normal Americans and low paid workers like salesman, shop
workers, unskilled workers, janitors and waiters experienced the bigger hit having a hard time
affording the basic necessities. For these people the American Dream of being successful and well off
became impossible as debt and purchases on credit increased. People were having a hard time trying
to make it with what they already had. Miller used his play to criticize the social and philosophical
failures of Capitalist society. During his writing process, Miller was conflicted with how to portray the
troubles of the character to an audience and didn t quite have the complete story. His encounter with
his uncle Manny Newman, who was a salesman and refused to accept failure and lack of confidence in
his household, inspired Miller to create the character of Willy and transform the incomplete story to

Native Americans And The Americans
1.The initial contact between Native Americans and the Europeans was far more unique than any other
racial interaction because the Native Americans were already residing in the United States. As for
other ethnic groups, they were foreign to the new soil in Northern America. At first, the Native
Americans held hospitality towards the arriving Europeans, whereas, the Europeans did not hold any
hospitality towards the arriving immigrants. The Europeans response to the Native Americans
hospitality was to slaughter and exploit the entire race for the mere profit of land access.
2.Certain myths about Native Americans make them feel as if there is no progress within their
community. Within the media, Native Americans are often portrayed towards living in archaic
conditions with structures such as teepees. These images often lead people to think that the Native
community has not evolved with the white society. Thus, when images of Native chiefs and princess s
are shown they offend them because they are only represented by the white supremacist viewpoint.
These images make people believe that the Natives are stuck at a certain time period. Whenever
images like the Nobel Savage are introduced it causes many within the Native community to get
fueled with anger because it is not true, for Natives had already developed civilizations amongst their
own people with equality for all. The Nobel Savage ideal portrays them as vulnerable people, when in
fact; Native Americans were capable of

  • 2. The Jesuits Research Paper The Jesuits, also known as the Society of Jesus, are an all male Roman Catholic order that was founded by Ignatius Loyola in 1540. The primary message of the Jesuits are to find God in all things , and to make men and women for others . Each Jesuit takes a vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The current pope of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, is a Jesuit. The Jesuit order is committed to doing justice all around the world. In Cleveland the Jesuits can be found at Gesu Grade School, St. Ignatius High School, and John Carroll University. In Cleveland, the Jesuit order founded St. Ignatius in 1886. The Jesuits and Marianist have many similarities and differences among their communities. In the Marianist community they too are very much involved in wide variety of people such as, education, parishes, and spirituality centers. Just as the Jesuits are focused on diversity, so are the Marinist. The Marianist community consisted of Priest and Brothers which eventually spread to the Sisters, while the Jesuits are mainly made up of just Priests and Brothers. The mission of the Marianist is to seek the gospel through service and the lives of others. With the guidance of Mary, the Marianist work together to find faith to help serve others for their dignity, liberation, and justice. The Marianist look at Mary as a model of faith and guidance to help carry out God s plan to serve others. Mary is their model of faith, just as Jesus is the Jesuits model of faith. Marianist put the presence of Jesus among not only themselves but for others. Both Jesuits and Marianists value living, praying, and supporting the community which strengthens the world, mainly those in poverty. The Marianists has a similar mission statement to the Jesuits as they both live in a community as equals. The difference between each of the mission statements are that the Marianists minister with the youth and solidarity of the poor. Both religious orders contribute to today s society by making Cleveland a better place through work of God and His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Genghis Khan Dbq The grasslands of Central Asia are known as steppes. In ancient times the only people that lived there were pastoralists. These were nomadic people who survived by herding animals who fed on grass, the only plants that grew there. The land and harsh environment taught these nomadic people to be harsh and do what was necessary The people of this land were viewed as uncivilized and barbaric by settled people. However, one such group ,known as the Mongols, soon conquered much of what was the known world. They amassed a power to rival and overtake the existing Chinese military and they created an era of peace within China for 300 years. Maybe these people weren t so barbaric and uncivilized after all. In the year 1167 a boy was born who would change the outlook on the Mongols forever. He was named Temuchin, but he is more commonly known today as Genghis Khan. For ... In the year 1206, Temuchin achieved the leadership position he had fought for, the people gave him the name Genghis Khan which means great leader . A quote from the History of the Mongols says that, They send a detachment of captives and men of other nationalities who are fighting with them to meet the enemy head on, and some of the Tartars (Mongols) may perhaps accompany them. • 4. Speech On Our Road Sense Don t we all remember that famous advertisement by a tyre company where a couple enjoying a late night ride on their bike are almost rammed into by a car which takes a wrong turn and they are saved just in time because of the superior tyres? Or the one where a careless guy with a baby in a pram is talking over the mobile phone while he crosses the road and is almost run over a biker but for his good brakes and tyres? And to top it all, the one with the pram swears at the biker instead of apologizing and owning up his fault! I could cite a whole book full of such scenarios that aptly describe India s road sense. The street are indeed filled with idiots, be it out of lack of civic sense or otherwise. And what s even more annoying is the fact that we tend not to care much about it and take it all in stride as something very normal. It is said that just knowing what is wrong lays the foundation of the future right (if any). Here is a compilation of the sad state of our road sense (remember, brevity is a virtue which really tested me here, trying to come up with as few examples as I could, given our inconspicuous road sense). HORN NOT OK PLEASE! In this lovely country of ours, no driver of an automobile worth his salt would shy away from the incessant urge to blissfully honk away as if it is a measure of his oh so keen driving ... Absurdity in Beckett, Pinter and Shakespeare An Najah National University Faculty of Arts Department of English Absurdity in Beckett, Pinter and Shakespeare Written by: Anas Kamal Khanfar 10507510 Supervised by: Dr.Odeh Odeh In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of the B.A. Degree in English 2nd Semester 2008/2009 Literature review Life is absurd as a game of chess which is played by a blind man and a sighted man from the point of view of the observer to the patient. In this paper, absurdity is observed and detected in a critical point of view that covers Shakespeare s Hamlet , Beckett s Endgame and Pinter s The Birthday Party . Absurdity in these works is at two levels which are character s absurdity and language s absurdity. Bradbrook ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The role of Hamlet is absurd in the play in the sense that he keeps his life purposeless. Psychologically speaking, Hamlet suffers from a psychological illness that prevents him to find his way. Throughout all the play, he is a floating man who can not make one good or reasonable conclusion. He restricts his mind in the words of the ghost of his dead father. This psychological state of Hamlet makes him trace nothing by the means of nothing that he keeps sailing in his ideas in the whole play. Hamlet can not trust any one except himself because he expects that some of them participate in the conspiracy against his father. Kott (1967) considers the absurdity in Hamlet s character by examining his character as a player in revenge drama. He says that a game of murder is totally absurd especially when the character is involved in game without having any piece of information about the killer except for the apparition of his father. When Hamlet discovers that his mother marries his uncle, he starts to theorize and throw statements that empty the anger and depression inside him: Fie on t, ah, fie! tis an unweeded garden That grows to seed, things rank and gross in nature Posses it merely. That it should come (to this)! But two months dead, nay, not so much, not two So excellent a king that was to this Hyperion to a satyr so loving to my mother (I, ii, 135 140) ... • 6. Examples Of Narcissistic Defence Narcissistic defence Narcissistic defences are often seen in psychotic individuals, people who are out of touch with reality, they are the most prominent defences. Here I have selected projection and denial as the two narcissistic defence mechanisms in relation to Moses Sithole. Projection When referring to projection we define it as, perceiving and reacting to unacceptable inner impulses and their derivate as though they were outside the self (Kaplan Sadock s, 2015, p.161). We can speculate that Moses, put his feelings of being falsely accused of raping Buyiswa Doris Swakamisaas a wrong doing on to all his victims (as they all reminded him of her doing wrong unto him), so therefore he saw them as doing wrong unto him so he needed to ... He maintained his innocence through the trial, furthermore when put on trial for the 40 rapes; 38 murders and five robberies he pleaded not guilty for all the charges. We could speculate that capable of such horrible things, could not accept the painful reality of how he hurt these victims, but projecting his feelings onto them. He denies the truth so that he is able to live with himself and be okay, because if Moses truelly accepted what he did to 78 families, as a human being I would speculate that he wouldn t be able to live with himself. He took each and every one of those women s lives because he could not accept or didn t want to accept the reality that he rapped Buyiswa Doris Swakamisa and went to jail for it (where he fell a victim to his own crime i.e. in his interview he spoke of how he was raped while in prison) and on releases many women had to be objectified to his denial, of not being able to accept that this is the human being he has ... • 8. Comparing Pride In Othello And Oedipus The King Tragedies that befall a true hero in a play sometimes are caused by that person s pride. Oedipus and Othello show readers the true character of being a tragic hero and show how pride can lead to devastating consequences. Pride s effect on individuals can be subtle from the start, and more often than not will manifest itself fully when that person realizes, from their actions, the consequences of being prideful. Sophocles and Shakespeare both write about prideful men in their plays Oedipus Rex and The Tragedy of Othello. The prideful actions each man takes, which they believe to be noble, causes their lives and the lives of the people around them to be ruined by tragedy. From these tragic tales, we can compare the way each man rose to power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Othello also goes through change; from a man who constantly is aware of how reputation dictates a man position in society to a man full of shame from losing said reputation because of the terrible actions he takes in a fit of rage. Othello s change was mainly due to him listening to the lies Iago told about Desdemona and Cassio. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and compatriot, was a villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he lost all self control and committed a horrible act. Unlike Oedipus, Othello could have chosen his own fate. He was not bound by any gods will and could have inquired more about the so called truths Iago was telling him about his wife, but by listening to Iago, and like Oedipus, he also loses those things most important to him. First, he loses his love Desdemona by suffocating her. Even though he was her killer, they both shared a love that she wanted to save; and from her deathbed, she forgave him by lying about who was her killer. When asked by Emilia, O, who hath done this deed (1535), Desdemona replies, Nobody I myself (1535). The second loss to Othello, like Oedipus, was his reputation and position in society. The Bantu speaking farmers came to southern Africa around the 10th century as a strong group of people, with more developed weapons and social structures. They believed in one Supreme Being, who created and maintained everything, they did not worship this Supreme Being. They did however believe in ancestral spirits who greatly influenced their lives. If the ancestral spirits would become angry they would offer them beer and/or animal sacrifice followed by a communal meal with extended family to keep the spirits happy. As far as rituals go the Bantu speaking people have life cycle rituals for example birth, they believe that a child is born from the spirit realm into its new home. Because this is considered dangerous the woman giving birth need to be in isolation for ten days accompanied by married women. • 10. Amish Cultural Values And Beliefs The Amish are a secluded religious group with the majority living in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. They avoid modernization and the typical American lifestyle. This writer is from Indiana and remembers seeing a slow moving large black object early one morning moving across an interstate overpass. It was beautiful and fascinating as the giant horse was solid black, the carriage was black and the gentleman was wearing all black. The sun was just rising and it woke this writer up while driving with heavy eyes. This paper seeks to explore Amish cultural values, beliefs, and attitudes in order to provide culturally competent nursing health care. It is imperative for nurses to provide culturally competent care because nurses serve as patient advocates. This role includes respecting the rights and dignity of all patients. Amish are humble in behavior and language and they avoid drawing attention to themselves, therefore, an individual psychological study is usually avoided (Knabb, Vogt, Newgren, 2011). Although the author has proposed clear demonstrations which indicate that dinosaurs were endotherm, the lecturer takes issue which what has been proposed by the author and believes that these evidence cannot prove the claim. According to the passage, dinosaurs were endotherm because they some of them lived in the polar region and only endotherm animals could live in such a cold environment. I have chosen just a handful of women figures of Greek Mythology. These women range from the Amazons to Hera, the queen of gods. The Amazons were fierce female warriors who were believed to be greatly skilled as horse riders, and with bows, arrows, and swords. The most famous Amazon is Wonder Woman, the princess of Themiscyra. She was shown to possess all of the skills mentioned above, along with other skills. These female warriors are now debated as to whether they have ever existed or if they were just a myth. • 14. Literature Review on Childhood Obesity Essay Literature Review on Childhood Obesity By: Obesity is a growing problem among U.S. children. In 1994, one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 was overweight. This is double the rate of 30 years ago (National Center for Health Statistics, 1999). This adverse trend has potentially profound effects on children s health, including their long term health. The terms obese and overweight often are used interchangeably. Technically, obesity is the upper end of overweight. Researches studies differ on whether obese consume more energy (calories) than non obese individuals. Some show they do consume more; others show they may consumer fewer calories. The big difference may be in the type of nutrients that they consume, such as fat. For example, Gazzaniga, found that the percentage of body fat was positively correlated with total dietary fat. Still, other researchers suggest that the reasons are metabolic in origin and that obese individuals process foods differently resulting in an increase in body fat. Although how these factors affect obesity are not fully understood, one thing is clear: Obesity results when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure and is stored as fat. Ellyn Satter (1987), author of Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense, firmly believes in the importance of the feeding relationship and its implications for obesity. The feeding relationship is the interaction that takes place between parents and children around food. Obese children need to learn to listen to their internal cues of hunger and appetite. Parents and childcare providers must help them do so. This includes encouraging children to eat according to these cues, while acknowledging the emotional aspect of feeding and eating. A restrictive diet may make the child feel deprived and neglected, and exacerbate the overeating problem. Children and adolescents who watched the most TV were more obese than ... Whether it was blacks or whites, they were all affected one way or the other by the nation s economical failure. It became popular for the young men and women to travel by freight trains to arrive to the places with better job opportunities. Around this time blacks were still not treated fairly, even in poverty. In the Scottsboro case in Alabama two white woman prostitutes falsely accused nine African American youths of rape on a freight train car; the boys were convicted in every trial due to the prejudices of an all white jury, and they had an attorney with little to no motivation to put any effort into their defense. The boys of the Scottsboro trials were never treated fairly from the beginning. The whole journey was filled with misconception. The journey began on the freight train, there was nine African Americans on a train car and with them, was a group of Caucasian men. It all started with one of the white males stepping on the hand of one of the blacks. Not too long after, the white males threatened the nine boys to leave the train car (Doc). • 20. Apollonianism And Dionysianism In The Greek God Brothers There is two sides to everything, the good and the evil, the wise will say that it is best to have both. The similarities that both Greek god brothers, Apollo and Dionysus, have with both East of Eden brothers, Aron and Cal are identical in some aspects. An individual can choose to carry themselves with behaviors that are either Apollonian or Dionysian, a mixture of both helps find a healthy balance that will let an individual live a life at its full potential without causing damage to oneself or others. Aron and Cal have clashing personalities that create a different environment in their lives and their relationship with their father. Friedrich Nietzsche discussed the Apollonian and Dionysian philosophies in the essay Apollonianism and Dionysianism, by contrasting and comparing them he was able to create concepts that can be tied down to how an individual chooses to live and the outcome they will create with the lifestyle they carry. The preoccupied attachment style is characterized by low fear of closeness and high fear of abandonment. Individuals classified as preoccupied have a negative model of themselves. Because preoccupies see themselves as unworthy of love and unsupportive, they tend to strive for self acceptance by gaining the acceptance of valued others (Bartholomew, 227) and would do everything to keep people in their life; Preoccupied individuals try to avoid any kind of conflict in order to make themselves loveable and others happy. Despite the fact that preoccupies often see others as trustworthy and available, they also feel that others do not care about them as much as they care about others. Somebody I would classify as preoccupied would be my ex boyfriend. He always felt that other people around him would not care as much about him as he cared about them. It is important to analyze the process of acculturation Mexican American experience and how it affects their ability to persuade and control their alcohol consumption. Therefore, males who migrated to the U.S. have already been heavily exposed to alcohol. These points are not to prove that alcoholism among Mexican American men is caused entirely by the exposure of Mexico s customs, but to outline the different reasons why a male might fall in alcoholism. A male who migrates to the U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S. as mentioned before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation. Dealing with the stress of leaving behind natal customs to adapt new values and behaviors can result heavy alcohol consumption. Even though the Mexican culture has already shaped the behavior of drinking in males, it is still different from the American drinking behaviors. Mexican men drink less frequently, but more heavily, while Americans drink more frequently, but not so heavily (Gilbert and Cervantes 1987). Clearly a combination of both as a form of dealing with stress can be catastrophic. During the acculturation process the greatest amount of stress can be felt when the feeling of loneliness starts to settle in. In comparison to cognitive theory, ego psychologists believe that there are developmental stages in which the ego goes through. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport with a passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body mass and height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed? With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner can be a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the runner s body responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady stride rate and have a manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to maximize his or her potential. Background information Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground (though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ). This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum fashion. The Negative Aspects of Special Rights Kymlicka believes that nation building is beneficial in developing the identities of the state, he further goes on to say that we can justify granting special rights to the minorities in a liberal state to protect them from any injustices (Kymlicka, 2002). Kymlicka does not state exactly what he believes special rights to be, therefore it is open to many different interpretations. I do not find this argument plausible because there are many instances in which certain special rights allow the minorities to have more rights than the majority. This occurs in the case of honour killings and gender equality. Firstly, it should be noted that the purpose of special rights is to promote equality and ensure all groups have equal footing. While I agree with this idea in theory, in practice I do not believe it is successful. I believe this because there are certain cultural traditions that may conflict with others and thus, not promote equality. For example, honour killings are the homicide of someone by the members of their family. This occurs when the perpetrator believes that the victim has brought dishonour to the family by refusing an arranged marriage or engaging in a homosexual relationship, etc. There are a plethora of reasons behind why someone would commit this type of murder, all of which, are unacceptable in any civilized society in my opinion. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by an aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but unsound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on end. Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is not a one hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe itself. Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low, the correct combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution and a reaction to external stimuli allows life to change naturally. The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created the entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture slides, a committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about who created the committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed, transcending time and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the universe. The universe is as capable of existing forever as a god is. William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an entity, it must have been designed.
