Consumer awareness is about consumers' rights and responsibilities when dealing with businesses to avoid exploitation. Consumers can be exploited through false advertising, illiteracy, or lack of information. In response, consumers organized and asked the government to pass consumer protection laws to stop trader malpractices like adulterated foods. The Consumer Protection Act of 1986 established consumer courts at various levels to protect consumer interests and promote their rights.

5. Adulteration of food
 Adulteration is the mixing or removal of chemicals in food and is
usually done for financial gain.
 In India food standards are followed by the codex alimentrarius
standards
 PFA (prevent food adulteration) standards have been developed
to maintain minimum level of quality of foods
 Agmark and BIS standards have been set.
 Educated and wakeful consumers would be the only people to
protect themselves from the Adulterated foods and their harmful
effects

8. Consumer protection act (COPRA)
 Copra was enacted in 1986 for protection and promotion of consumer
interest
 The act provides for the establishment of consumer courts at district state
and national levels
 The act has also setup courts at central and state governments which
focuses exclusively on the rights of the consumers in the act.
