Prairie Meadows Scholarship
I would like to pursue a career as an architectural drafter and a drafting engineer. The Prairie Meadows
Scholarship would help me financially and it would make it easier to pay off student loans after college. This is
my dream job. I love taking architectural and engineer drafting classes at school. My parents always told me to
get a job that I would enjoy so I would be happy to go to work. Architecture is something that I enjoy doing and
would like to make a career out of. I have always been fascinated with the way that floor plans are drawn out
and how blueprints are laid out. When I was a kid, I would play with legos and finish building a structure within
an hour or two. I would then take it apart and build something different with the ... Show more content on

When I graduate college, I would love to design a building that would fascinate kids and encourage them to be
an architect. Someday, I want to create a building that will better the city of Altoona. Most importantly, I want
to be known for contributing and giving back to my community. I can give back to my community by designing
the floor plans for houses in my town. I will be able to give each person a personalized floor plan to make every
house different. I would also try to design the floor plans for new buildings and business. As a kid, my parents
taught me to give back to others especially when someone in your community needs help. I would also be able
to give money to charities from the sales of the blueprints that I will make. I know that a great amount of people
give money back to the school districts and I would love to do the same thing. I would love to give money to
the school sports teams to pay for new equipment and traveling expenses. Another way I would like to give
back is by giving the schools money to buy every kid a computer that they can use in class. I want to also give
money to the school to make more architecture classes so the school can inspire more kids like me to be an

911 Attacks Research Paper
911 Attacks On September 11, 2001 an Islamic terrorist group attacked the usa. This group disliked the USA a
lot but they did not have the sufficient power to attack the USA directly. They decided to crash four planes into
memorable places in the USA. The leader of this group was called Osama bin laden.Suprisingly enough it took
usa 10 years to finally catch him after the 911 attacks. He was then sentenced to death and killed. Thousands of
people were killed in the attacks. Luckily the people in 1 plane managed to take it back. The others however
still crashed. Around 13,000 people were killed when the twin towers went down. Every 9/11 we take a moment

A Glance At Modern Society
D Nae Webb
Mrs. Murdock
AP Language and Composition
18 March 2015
Title
At a glance at modern society most would say that it is a close to perfect world. On the contrary, it is far from
perfect; this world is full of war, poverty, and disease. But there more problems on a social level like
stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination causing oppression within society. ... as official policy decision
appear to redefine the importance of human interaction in terms of economic relationship... Ruiz and Mínguez
(2001) observe that such environments prompt immoralities such as poverty, inequality, and exclusion (qtd. in
Lucey, Agnello, and Hawkins 2). Homophobia can be described as an antipathy towards homosexual
individuals. Those individuals are subjected to prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in their social and
political lives. From the foreword of The Bluest Eye by Toni Moorison, Moorison states There can t be anyone,
I am sure, who doesn t know what it feels like to be disliked, even rejected, momentarily or for sustained
periods of time... It may even be that some of us know what it is like to be actually hated hated for things we
have no control over and cannot change. Homosexuality has many misconceptions surrounding the lifestyle;
from disease to personality traits. The social life of those individual was not the only thing affected; their rights
as a human being have been restricted. Laws have been made in certain countries that says a man that has sex

experiencing social inequalities and injustice through equipping counselors with the skills necessary for
becoming agents of change. The author in his 13 chapters examines the social, cultural, and economic systems
responsible for perpetuating injustice and inequality with illustrations underlying the importance of counselors
acceptance of their professional, ethical, and moral responsibility in working with clients in transforming social

Courtney C. Lee is also a past president of both The American Counseling Association and the Association for
Multicultural Counseling and Development respectively.
Scholarly Evaluation:
Lee (2007) in chapters 2, 8 and 10 examined the themes: advancing social justice by challenging socioeconomic
disadvantage; promoting ethnic/racial equality through empowerment based counseling; and social justice and
counseling ethics. Having a limited access to adequate funding inevitably places individuals lives and future
into an uncomfortable position where they have fewer choices and access to benefits which can allow them to
become frustrated. Ethnic minorities have a higher level of poverty existing among them when compared to
other ethnic counterparts. According to the 2002 2003 U.S. statistics, children and women are at a higher risk
than men of being in poverty where women in comparison to males are at a disadvantage in terms of earnings
with their wage constituting 76% of the average wage for males. Consequently, being an ethnic minority, being
female, or being a child puts one at greater than average risk of living in poverty (p. 17). Poverty has also been
found to be correlated with several health and mental health conditions.
Similarly, individuals of lower socioeconomic status experience higher rates of morbidity and mortality in
almost all disease categories when compared to those of

The Influence Of Drug Use And Abuse
Over the course of the last twenty years, drug usage has changed rather dramatically. From the kinds of drugs
used to their potencies to how much is used, there are multiple factors to observe. Some drugs that didn t even
exist or were almost unheard of that long ago are some of the most abused today and are growing in popularity.
In this essay I will be analyzing how people use drugs differently today than they did 20 years ago, in 1997, as
opposed to how it is used today in 2017. In addition to this, we will be looking at how this change is affecting
society and whether or not we re better off than we were in the late 1990s. To begin, Let s observe drug usage
and abuse in 1997. At this time in the U.S, communities and society had begun ... Show more content on

Another newer drug and very dangerous drug to gain popularity is synthesized marijuana. Despite all of this,
many some drug usage and abuse hass decreased since 1997. Cocaine use is one of the few that has gone down
considerably, along with alcohol abuse some. Thanks to several anti tobacco campaigns and similar agendas,
tobacco use amongst Americans is declining by quite a bit, and even more rapidly with teens. To conclude, in
2017 thanks to the efforts of government sponsored campaigns tobacco and alcohol abuse has decreased
dramatically since the 1990s, however newer and more powerful drugs like methamphetamine and synthesized
marijuana have gained in popularity over the course of 20 years, and other drugs including opioids and heroin
the like have grown to become the most dangerous and most used today. Now we will observe the change in
drug abuse from a direct source. When asked if drugs use has increased or decreased since 1997, both of my
subjects agreed it had increased. When I asked what drugs in particular were more popular, the interviewed
went along with the research and said meth, as well as opioids like heroin. In addition to this, both participants
agreed drugs are more dangerous now more than ever. In particular, one participant said heroin was the most
dangerous drug right now, while the other said heroin and synthetic marijuana. To conclude, the

The Overpopulation Of Pets
According to webmd.com, 46% of people that took a survey claim that they are dog people. They are obviously
very popular pets, but we should all know that millions of dogs go into shelters every year and most of them
must be put down due to not finding a home. This is caused by overpopulation of dogs from individuals
meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of shelters. Puppies bought from breeders are not spayed or
neutered and this leads to the reproduction of more puppies. The Animal Population Control article from the
American Humane service states, pet overpopulation encompasses two factors. (1) allowing dogs to reproduce
with little chance to find homes for the offspring and (2) pets being relinquished by owners who can no longer

Driving Under Influences Laws
tougher because the rules are not enforced enough and are not doing their job. These people have gotten their
licenses taken away and do not even follow the rules afterwards. This piece of information does not tell how
many people are caught without their licenses but it is most likely true that there are many drivers who get away
freely from any cops knowing they are driving without a license. The next point has to do with the leniency of
the state s Driving Under Influences laws. More specifically, South Dakota s laws. South Dakota s DUI
penalties include no minimum jail time or fine for a first or second offense, no administrative license
suspension, and no ignition interlock requirement. It had the number one fatality rate for 1995 to 2013, ... Show

The first point in of topic is the issues with repeat offenders. Repeat offenders are an issue because in the past,
repeat DUI offenders might have been given minimal jail time or prohibition, along with their driver s license
being suspended. Sometimes, the punishment could include a certain amount of community service. The NTSB,
National Transportation Safety Board, has called for states to eliminate community service as a punishment, in
part because it keeps prosecutions of offenders records and makes repeat offenses more likely. Treatment for
alcohol abuse works in some but not all cases. It is certainly worth trying, but in many cases repeat offenders
are not interested in being helped. They will go through a treatment program if it is required by law, but positive
effects may be short lived. These facts about the repeat offenders not wanting to go through treatment programs
and not being interested in being helped at all are a major key aspect of why we should have DUI laws that are
more strict than they are today because if they do not want any help like treatment for alcohol abuse or go
through a treatment program because then they are more likely to not help the community around them in any
way. If they were interested in getting helped, there may be a lower risk of car crashes in that area. In the DUI
laws were tougher there, they would probably not want to get in any more car crashes because if they did, they
would have to pay a higher fee and even do more community work if those laws were implemented. If someone
were to be caught driving under an influence, your license could be banned like mentioned before and also
could have your car taken away temporarily. These things should teach a person a couple of lessons but if
caught again, there could be more of a punishment than before. If someone were to receive a second DUI
offense in ten years,

Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges
Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges is widely
known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is
no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative
account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an
encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its
importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which
the reader later finds out, created by a secret society, Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its ... Show more

No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot seem to
find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in Iraq or Asia
Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the
narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the
narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be.
This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator
believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension
between what the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is
fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia
Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real
authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader
continues, the story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator
goes through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As

Culturally Targeted Educational Intervention to Increase Colorectal Health Awareness among African
Americans. This study will be examined following an objective critique of the research conducted and reported.
This analysis will show areas that could be improved and avoided in future studies and reports.
This study was conducted to increase colonoscopy screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) in African Americans
as well as increase knowledge of CRC and decrease cancer fatalism. This study did clearly state the four study
objectives based off of their literature review. The literature review showed several studies with increased ...

The authors continued with the study by allowing a larger immediate intervention group and a dramatically
smaller delayed control group than envisioned. The delayed control group was only 8% of the total participants
in this study. The authors provided a concise explanation of the differences in the immediate intervention and
the delayed control group. The data analysis stated they used descriptive statistics for the sample data obtained.
The results as described by the author did have several possible unidentifiable errors particularly in the control
group. The results were discussed with relation to their objectives and the literature review however the analysis
was highly focused on the success of the study and only slightly addressed the limitations of such a small
control group in proportion to the immediate intervention group. The authors went in depth on the ethical
consideration and justification for continuing with the study with the uneven participant groups. The conclusion
of the study demonstrated the authors confidence in the cultural targeting of education for CRC and the
resulting increase in colonoscopy in African Americans.
This study was conducted in a reasonable manner and the limitations were clearly outlined by the author.

Analysis Of The Article The Self Of The Age Of...
Writing 2
Yijia Chen
In the article, The self in the age of Information, Kenneth Gergen argues that under the information era,
technology leads people to lose the self and reflect this lost on the writing. Discussing the same period, Jeremy
Rifkin in the chapter A Postmodern Stage showed a more positive perspective about the change.
To support his argument, Gergen elaborates damages in the community and institution that nurtured
independent self, the direct erosion to solitary self. In the pre modern world, people due to the lack of
communication and transportation tools, have fewer opportunities to get in touch with various people outside.
Therefore, people form consistent relationships with others, which derive a strong sense of being somebody
everyone is familiar with. However, the advances in communication enable people to move household often
and be in contact with a wider range of friends leading to average weakening bonds with more and fast
changing friends. As a result of the decrease in deep relationships, in Gergen s notion, people receive less sense
of identification. Moreover, the multi voices raised today and the suspicions over speakers motivations confuse
people from faith to distrust.
Other than environmental factors, Gergen addresses the erosion of the essential self directly undermine the
intelligibility of the tradition self. People can t make independent and rational decision because of the
conflicting stands they held in the same time and if

Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third Essays
Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third
In the play Richard III , Richard s trickery and manipulation ultimately leads to his downfall. His goals are
based on what he can get from others and how they can help him, not on helping himself. This paper shows
how Richard uses his skills of trickery and manipulation to not only move up on the hierarchy, but to actually
get elected king. He uses his trickery to get Anne his wife to help move up his position on the hierarchy; he uses
his trickery to get elected and to get his men to fight for him and not for the better of the country.
Throughout the play Richard uses his trickery to persuade people to see things his way. In his conversation with

Making Anne believe him was easy due to his skills to trick and manipulate others into thinking his way.
During the whole play Richard s evil ways are easy to see for the reader, but for other characters in the play it
was not so easy. He tricked and persuaded them to elect him king without even mentioning it. When there was
no one else before him on the hierarchy he had them believe he was a holy man that was not suitable for the
throne. This was all a disguise for them to just hand over the throne and practically beg him to be king. This is
best shown in the conversation between Richard, Buckingham, Catesby, Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and citizens
when Richard tells them Alas, why would you heap this care on me? / I am unfit for state and majesty. / I do
beseech you take it not amiss, / I cannot nor I will not yield to you. (Act III, Scene vii p.145) Here Richard is
using reverse psychology to make them think he was such a humble man. When actually he is a power hungry
and very conceited man; he only does things when the outcome benefits him. He doesn t care about others, he
represents everything a king should go against: greed, manipulation, and gaining power. In Richard s last battle
he makes his men believe Richmond and Richmond s men are bad by tricking them. His men do not follow him
because they trust him, but rather, they follow him because they are manipulated

How Did Jazz Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
Jazz and Civil Rights : Hand In Hand
Jazz contributed to the civil rights movement by allowing people to listen to African American opinions through
musical beats and lyrics. Giving the world a new wide spectrum from what they were listening to before.
The current definition of jazz is American music developed from ragtime and blues. In some ways blues and
jazz go hand in hand. These types of music emerged in the Deep American South around the end of the 19th
century, spread north and formed various sub genres. Jazz and blues are connected by their influence from
African beats and culture to traditional African American work songs. These rhythmic a cappella work songs
originated with agricultural slaves, from synchronizing physical movement ... Show more content on

The History of Jazz
The Jazz Age was a post World War I movement in the 1920 s, from which jazz music and dance emerged.
Although the era ended with the beginning of The Great Depression in 1929, Jazz has lived on in American pop
culture. Later on in time jazz was brought back by mostly African Americans. In New Orleans during the late
19th century, brass marching bands gave lengthy performances during funerals and parades this is one way jazz
was used to express others emotions . Musicians had grown bored and begin to improvise, using the syncopated
rhythms of African American vocal music into traditional military tunes. The way Jazz got around was by
musicians being able to move state by state to perform. The music eventually spread north, taking root and
evolving in cities such as Chicago and New York City. With a wide range of audience jazz came to be one of
the most popular musical genres in America. The term jazz or jass derives from a Creole word that means both
African dance and copulation. Also The term jazz referring to peppy dance music first appeared in a March

The Biological Basis Toward Sexual Orientation
The world has come very far with all the dramatic changes we have faced over the years. Wouldn t you agree?
As much change as the world has been through there are still numerous social problems that still exist in society
today. Amongst those numerous social problems, sexual orientation and inequality stand out to me. Research
from biology, psychology, and sociology is where our understanding of sexual orientation comes from. There
are two hypothetical theories researchers have discovered examining the biological basis toward sexual
orientation. One concept is the neurohormonal theory, biologist contend that homosexuality is caused by
abnormal sex hormone levels in utero. The alternative theory is based on behavioral genetics, determining the
source and magnitude of genetic impact on sexual orientation. This theory suggested the concept that gay men
were genetically female. Later this theory was proven to be false. Homosexuality was considered as a pathology
or mental illness. Not every psychologists agreed with that perspective. A researcher by the name of Havelock
Ellis stated that homosexuality was congenital and for that reason it could not be considered as a disease.
Sigmund Freud another theorist had the concept that everyone is born bisexual and that either homosexuality or
heterosexuality is developed through social and personal experience. Ellis and Freud both concurred that
homosexuality was not a mental illness. Despite these researchers opinions in 1973,

English Case Law on Piercing the Corporate Veil
Piercing the corporate veil is a term that is commonly used in corporate law to refer to cases in which the
limited liability of the Corporation becomes unlimited to be able to impose certain responsibilities either to the
particular Corporation or to the shareholders of a corporation. The idea of piercing the corporate veil has been
the answer to social problems that come form the principle that corporations have limited liability. When
studying limited liability in the United Kingdom it can be found that the topic is regulated by case law.
According to what the court has said there are two main events in which the veil can be pierced. This is either
when the corporation is created to evade existing obligations, or when a single economic ... Show more content

In respect to what has just been explained there appears to be a sense between the courts concepts. They started
with a simple concept of the previous existing obligations and evolved through the cases to the concept of the
façade. The problem of this way in which the court has evolved, is that the concept of the façade is not clear
enough. Even though it has been developed in some cases, a clear concept or definition of what the court means
by façade has not been made. The definitions that have been made are pure inductions that the academics like
Kershaw make of the cases.
The other main event in which the court gives place to lift the corporate veil is in the case of the existence of a
single economic unit. This means that a group of two or more corporations (being one the parent one) work as a
single one, even though they are different companies a separate business operation does not exist. The most
important cases that are taken into account when referring to this circumstance are DHN Food Distributors v
Tower Hamlets LBC (1976) (case 1), Woolfson v Strathclyde Regional Council (1978) (case 2) and Adams v
Cape Industries Plc (1990) (case 3). In both, case 1 and 2 the court in accordance to the facts decides that the
veil should be lifted, but it does it for different reasons. In case 1 the judges decide to lift the veil because of the

By 1920, there were 4,500 such stores; by 1930, 15,000. In 1936, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, A P opened a

to try to be the predominant seller of pretty much everything you buy. Each one is trying to become more like
the other Walmart by investing heavily in technology, Amazon by opening physical bookstores and now buying
physical supermarkets. Something similar, says Irwin, is happening in nearly every major industry, benefiting
the biggest and best run organizations, to the detriment of upstarts and second fiddle players.
In the accelerated churning of today s capitalism, changing tastes and expanding choices destroy some jobs and
create others, with net gains in price and quality. But disruption is never restful, and America now faces a
decision unique in its history: Is it tired tired of the turmoil of creative destruction? If so, it had better be ready
to do without creativity. And ready to stop being what it has always been: restless.

Due to the internet and E commerce, data security is even more important due to the possibility of hackers,

Current Specifications
By examining data security in regards to Riordan, it is apparent that very little exists. Riordan`s data security
contains an assortment of random and disorganized systems that contain sensitive data, however none of these
systems are linked, nor are any of them current with respect to memory, speed, and processing power.
Additionally, employee information such as payroll records, completed training, and incidents involving

Due to the lack in data security elements, the following recommendations are suggested: strategy and risk

Persuasive Speech On Naps
Have you ever taken a nap because you are tired, only to wake up and be even more tired? There are reasons
behind this and I will be explaining these reasons to you today. Unless it is the wrong kind of nap, taking naps
can help improve mental abilities and physical health. There are specific kinds of naps. Larger naps can make
you more tired, but shorter naps can give you more energy and make you more away. Taking naps can help you
with being tired, but if you take a two to three hour nap you will wake up even more tired (Source 3). Short
naps can reduce how tired you are. To help, set a time for 45 minutes and sleep until it goes off (Source 2).
Naps don t just help with sleep. They can also help with memory and alertness. Napping can help with mental
abilities. In source 2 it said Mark Rosekind of NASA, who conducted the research, stated that even a 26
minutes nap boosted a pilots mental performance by 34%. A 45 minute nap gave roughly the same mental
boost, but the boost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can get energy to be able to do more with your body. Naps provide energy when the right kind of nap is
taken. It says in the text of Source 2 Winston Churchill who helped lead the Allied Powers to victory during

Napping can help with energy but it can also mess with your sleeping routine so watch how you nap. It says in

pattern of darkness at night and bright light during the day. When a person s internal clock is in sync with his or

job makes for interrupted sleep or sleep at odd hours the internal clock can become confused. Then the person

My Strong Political Identity
In today s day and age, everyone that you talk to seems to have a strong political identity. They are either with
one side or another and have a strong reason as to why they side with the side that they do. I know that this is
not that normal for the times that we are in. I know that being 22 years old that in the eyes of many, I should
really have a side and be able to stand with that side and be able to defend why I stand with that side. Following
the 45th presidential election I have found that it is even more uncommon to not have a strong political stance
and I have been told over and over that I really need to form one and stand with it. I would have to say that I

whichever candidate that I can relate to more, and who I feel will make a positive impact. I would have to say
that prior to this year, I have had no political view what so ever. I did not find a need to gain my own political
opinion, because I couldn t vote till this past election, and without being able to vote I did not see a reason to
truly gain my own political identity. This past semester I took a class called, political psychology. This class is
the first political class that I have taken and it started the process to help me start to form a political view. This
class opened my eyes to both sides and what they truly stand for. I was able to sit and see why different people
agreed with both parties and why they did not agree. This class allowed me to freely and with my own opinion

Customer Service and Voluntears Program by the Disney Company
Introduction Walt Disney has set themselves a goal in their own words it states, Disney s mission is to always
deliver, with integrity, the most exceptional entertainment experiences for people of all ages. We hold our
citizenship efforts to the same high standard. Ultimately, our goal is to be the most admired company in the
world. We believe we can achieve this goal by conducting our business and creating our products in an ethical
manner, and by promoting the happiness and well being of kids and families by inspiring them to join us in
creating a brighter tomorrow. This is of vital importance when referring to Disney and CSR the reason being a
benchmark is required in order to assess the success of any campaign that gets run by Disney. It is easy to see
that Disney has set themselves extremely high targets wanting their CSR projects to be of the same standard as
their day to day business and want to be the best company in the world for CSR. Currently Disney is ranked
number 1 in the world for CSR by Forbes in a four way tie along with Microsoft, BMW and Google. This
means that they have already met one of their goals and even exceeded it by being rated more highly in terms of
CSR rather than their actual business as their current rating on business success is 108th in the world. Even
though part of their goal is already met doesn t mean they can t still aspire to achieve the same standards and in
many ways it shows how invested Disney is donating more than ICBC

Abstract
This article provides a brief introduction to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance encompasses research that
drops the traditional assumptions of expected utility maximization with rational investors in efficient markets.
The two building blocks of behavioral finance are cognitive psychology (how people think) and the limits to
arbitrage (when markets will be inefficient).
The growth of behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true when one is dealing with a large market, such as the Japanese stock market in the late
1980s or the U.S. market for technology stocks in the late 1990s. Arbitrageurs that attempted to short Japanese
stocks in mid1987 and hedge by going long in U.S. stocks were right in the long run, but they lost huge
amounts of money in October 1987 when the U.S. market crashed by more than the Japanese market (because
of Japanese government intervention). If the arbitrageurs have limited funds, they would be forced to cover
their positions just when the relative misvaluations were greatest, resulting in additional buying pressure for
Japanese stocks just when they were most overvalued!
2. Cognitive Biases
Cognitive psychologists have documented many patterns regarding how people behave.
Some of these patterns are as follows:
Heuristics
Heuristics, or rules of thumb, make decision making easier. But they can sometimes lead to biases, especially
when things change. These can lead to suboptimal investment decisions.
When faced with N choices for how to invest retirement money, many people allocate using the
1/N rule. If there are three funds, one third goes into each. If two are stock funds, two thirds goes into equities.

How Does Lynne Ramsay Use Film Techniques Of Eva...
How has Ramsay used film techniques to illustrate Eva s point of view and emotional state in the film? Lynne
Ramsay s We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011) is a thriller drama which follows Eva Khatchadourian, a
widowed mother in distress due to the massacre caused by her psychopathic son. Ramsay uses various film
techniques to portray the perspective and emotional state of Eva in the film. Through colour, sound and music
he expresses her feelings clearly to the audience. Colour was widely explored by Ramsay to depict the
extensive array of feelings of Eva. Two prominent colours were red and yellow. Red is used as the dominant
colour to depict Eva s inability to escape from the guilt and blood caused by the actions of Kevin, her son.

He implements music in contrast to the mood of Eva to express to the audience her emotional state. A wide
array of blues music were often utilised to contrast Eva s mood. Ham N Eggs by Lonnie Donegan was used
when Eva was driving to the jail from work. Her mood highly contrasts with the uplifting tone of the music as
she has just visited her son in jail. Music was also used to give hints as to the actions of Eva. As Eva was
frantically searching Kevin s room, the song In My Room by The Beach Boys began playing. The blues song
contained lyrics such as, There s a world where I can go and tell my secrets to In my room, in my room. In this
world I lock out all my worries and my fears. The lyrics show that Eva was searching for any clues to help her
discern the actions and attitude of Kevin. She found nothing to help her determine Kevin s attitude which was
ironic to lyrics. Another example of ironic use of music was during Eva s work Christmas party where Colin
asks her to dance. Eva shyly rejects the dance and Colin whispers an insult to her. The cheerful song Last
Christmas by Wham! is gradually increased in volume to rival Eva s hurt feelings. Ramsay s recurring use of
music in aims of ironically contrasting Eva s melancholic state, is clearly expressed to the

California Psychological Inventory Essay
The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) is a sophisticated assessment developed to not only measure
personality but also to predict how people will react in different situation. It is a more indepth version of MBTI.
The purpose of this test is to provide a portrait of both personal and work related characteristics. It is a self
report inventory, and a personality assessment. It is empirically derived by test taker s drives, motivations,
interpersonal style, and ways of leading. CPI used common factors that are easier to be understood by test
takers to measure their interpersonal skills, self management skills, motivation and thinking styles, and personal
characteristics. Your CPI report is divided into four parts, however, we will only discuss the first, second and
the last part of the result in the report. First. The first part of the CPI report explains the reliability of the
protocol. The purpose of this component is to assure you that there is no evidence of invalidity from your CPI
report because you did not input too many responses that are atypical or random. This also show that you did
not overly favorite a self portrait or unduly criticize your self representation. Second. The second part of the
CPI report provides you a classification for type and a classification for level along with the corresponding
scores. CPI report uses T score to make sense your scores which means that CPI compares your score with
other individuals scores in the U.S. You will see raw

TV Rating Research
The main purpose of doing this research on the relationship between fantasy football participation and TV
rating is if playing fantasy football helps influences people to watch televised games of the National Football
League (NFL). The main reason of me doing this research is because I truly believe in this study and I have past
experience of being part of the human beings that have helped the NFL on their TV ratings.
With this research topic I will be answering three research question. My primary research question: Does
having a high percent of NFL players that are in starting lineups spark an increase in TV ratings in those games?
Second research question: Having NFL players that are on high winning teams increase TV ratings? Third
research question: A game with a small margin of victory increase TV ratings.
Research Question One
Does having a high percent of NFL players that are in starting lineups spark an increase in TV ratings in those
games? To find results you have to look at players that were starting in fifty percent to ninety percent of
leagues. Also need to look at results from Sunday night football, Monday night football, NFL on CBS, and NFL
on ESPN. I found some great tables to help picture the results.

depends what channel it s shown on. For NBC, studies show that there were notable conclusion between the
winning percentage and NFL players but this was only shown with NFL players starting greater than ninety
percent of leagues. ESPN was the opposite. They had notable results with players starting in greater than fifty

Why Cartoon Villains Speak In Foreign Accents Summary
The information that a child learns at a young age translates into their adult lives, too. In the article Why Do
Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? , author Isabel Fattal details sociolinguist Calvin Gidney s studies
by using his research to explain how repeatedly associating foreign accents with villains could have a negative
effect on how children think and engage with diversity in the United States. The author s usage of evidence was
thorough. In agreeance to the author, I do believe that media can affect the way that a child perceives diversity
because children are credulous, which makes them easier to deceive. Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in

This article only presented one side of the argument without acknowledging the other side, which leaves
loopholes and leeway in their argument to speculate other reasons for why foreign accents are given to villains.
Nevertheless, the article contained an ample amount of details and evidence. The author argues that this
correlation can render a negative connotation to kids as they start to comprehend diversity. To be diverse means
to be different. Children can sometimes use the character s accent to distinguish who the protagonist and
antagonist are. Notably, the article reads, The common denominator in all of these vague foreign accents is the
binary distinction of like us versus not like us. Villainy is marked just by sounding different (Fattal). I agree
with the author s statement. Just by looking at two different people you can already notice the distinctive
features between them. One conversation with a stranger could also determine if they are like me or not based
on the way that they talk. However, as children grow they start to learn right from wrong, and they might think
a person that does not talk like them is the

Aspects Of Body Image
Body image is the perception that a person has of their physical self and the thoughts and feelings that result
from that perception. These feelings can be positive, negative or both and are influenced by individual and
environmental factors. Many modern celebrities are known for being excessive sharers on social media.
For instance, the Kardashians are notorious for posting daily glamorous and often lingerie clad images on
Instagram that attract several million likes. But it s not just images of attractive celebrities that flood social
media. Friends, acquaintances and strangers post images of themselves too, often editing them to disguise face
blemishes, make cheeks rosier or to make their nose look smaller. When people look at these attractive images
on social media, research shows they often compare their own appearance to those images and think they re less
attractive than the images they see.We know these comparisons can make women unhappy with their
appearance and put them in a bad mood. Given body dissatisfaction is an important predictor for eating
disorders, we need to know if some types of comparisons are worse for people s body image than others. (

But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort of
relationship, not only for the dominated , but also for the dominating , as such an obsession with ruling over
another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would not have taken as drastic a
measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful result to emphasize on the harmful
aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict rhyme scheme and has a conversational rhythm.
It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably conveys the conflict within himself between what he says
and what he really is a murderer! Furthermore, this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for
the partner who lets himself/herself be controlled by the other either. In La Belle Dame Sans Merci , the knight
says, And that is why I sojourn here/Alone and palely loitering/Though the sedge has wither d from the
lake/And no birds sing , the sad condition of the knight here emphasizes on the downbeat to this type of love
and the sad, lonely image (from winter) is used to create a greater impact on the reader.

The Letter From A Birmingham Jail
As an African American growing up in a multi generational household I appreciated the stories my grandparents
told me about the Civil Rights Movement through their eyes. They acknowledged that Martin Luther King was
not just for people of color; but all human beings who were being treated unjustly. He is known for many
speeches, but The Letter from a Birmingham Jail written in 1963 was phenomenal in my opinion; this letter,
written in response to A Call for Unity, (Carpenter et. el, 1963 ) an article written by eight, white, Alabama
clergymen, was to serve as a response to those who believed that King acted inappropriately for coming to
Birmingham, Alabama, as an outsider, for creating immense tension with his demonstrations, and for the
inopportune timing of his marches. Even though, the clergymen agreed that social injustice did exist, it was
their opinion that these types of matter should be handled in the judicial system rather than in the streets. It
astonishes me how an individual can be so articulate and use various references to state his case. Furthermore,
when he does give the reader reference; whether it s religious base or past history from different era; he uses the
material to correlate with his current predicament. This is an era were no internet was available. While I was
reading the letter I kept wondering if he was a social worker in his pass life because he truly displays the six
principles of the National Association of Social Work (NASW, 2008 p. 2)

  • 2. Prairie Meadows Scholarship I would like to pursue a career as an architectural drafter and a drafting engineer. The Prairie Meadows Scholarship would help me financially and it would make it easier to pay off student loans after college. This is my dream job. I love taking architectural and engineer drafting classes at school. My parents always told me to get a job that I would enjoy so I would be happy to go to work. Architecture is something that I enjoy doing and would like to make a career out of. I have always been fascinated with the way that floor plans are drawn out and how blueprints are laid out. When I was a kid, I would play with legos and finish building a structure within an hour or two. I would then take it apart and build something different with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I graduate college, I would love to design a building that would fascinate kids and encourage them to be an architect. Someday, I want to create a building that will better the city of Altoona. Most importantly, I want to be known for contributing and giving back to my community. I can give back to my community by designing the floor plans for houses in my town. I will be able to give each person a personalized floor plan to make every house different. I would also try to design the floor plans for new buildings and business. As a kid, my parents taught me to give back to others especially when someone in your community needs help. I would also be able to give money to charities from the sales of the blueprints that I will make. I know that a great amount of people give money back to the school districts and I would love to do the same thing. I would love to give money to the school sports teams to pay for new equipment and traveling expenses. Another way I would like to give back is by giving the schools money to buy every kid a computer that they can use in class. I want to also give money to the school to make more architecture classes so the school can inspire more kids like me to be an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Glance At Modern Society D Nae Webb Mrs. Murdock AP Language and Composition 18 March 2015 Title At a glance at modern society most would say that it is a close to perfect world. On the contrary, it is far from perfect; this world is full of war, poverty, and disease. But there more problems on a social level like stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination causing oppression within society. ... as official policy decision appear to redefine the importance of human interaction in terms of economic relationship... Ruiz and Mínguez (2001) observe that such environments prompt immoralities such as poverty, inequality, and exclusion (qtd. in Lucey, Agnello, and Hawkins 2). Homophobia can be described as an antipathy towards homosexual individuals. Those individuals are subjected to prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in their social and political lives. From the foreword of The Bluest Eye by Toni Moorison, Moorison states There can t be anyone, I am sure, who doesn t know what it feels like to be disliked, even rejected, momentarily or for sustained periods of time... It may even be that some of us know what it is like to be actually hated hated for things we have no control over and cannot change. Lee is also a past president of both The American Counseling Association and the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development respectively. Scholarly Evaluation: Lee (2007) in chapters 2, 8 and 10 examined the themes: advancing social justice by challenging socioeconomic disadvantage; promoting ethnic/racial equality through empowerment based counseling; and social justice and counseling ethics. Having a limited access to adequate funding inevitably places individuals lives and future into an uncomfortable position where they have fewer choices and access to benefits which can allow them to become frustrated. Ethnic minorities have a higher level of poverty existing among them when compared to other ethnic counterparts. According to the 2002 2003 U.S. statistics, children and women are at a higher risk than men of being in poverty where women in comparison to males are at a disadvantage in terms of earnings with their wage constituting 76% of the average wage for males. Consequently, being an ethnic minority, being female, or being a child puts one at greater than average risk of living in poverty (p. 17). Poverty has also been found to be correlated with several health and mental health conditions. • 7. The Influence Of Drug Use And Abuse Over the course of the last twenty years, drug usage has changed rather dramatically. From the kinds of drugs used to their potencies to how much is used, there are multiple factors to observe. Some drugs that didn t even exist or were almost unheard of that long ago are some of the most abused today and are growing in popularity. In this essay I will be analyzing how people use drugs differently today than they did 20 years ago, in 1997, as opposed to how it is used today in 2017. In addition to this, we will be looking at how this change is affecting society and whether or not we re better off than we were in the late 1990s. To begin, Let s observe drug usage and abuse in 1997. At this time in the U.S, communities and society had begun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another newer drug and very dangerous drug to gain popularity is synthesized marijuana. Despite all of this, many some drug usage and abuse hass decreased since 1997. Cocaine use is one of the few that has gone down considerably, along with alcohol abuse some. Thanks to several anti tobacco campaigns and similar agendas, tobacco use amongst Americans is declining by quite a bit, and even more rapidly with teens. To conclude, in 2017 thanks to the efforts of government sponsored campaigns tobacco and alcohol abuse has decreased dramatically since the 1990s, however newer and more powerful drugs like methamphetamine and synthesized marijuana have gained in popularity over the course of 20 years, and other drugs including opioids and heroin the like have grown to become the most dangerous and most used today. Now we will observe the change in drug abuse from a direct source. When asked if drugs use has increased or decreased since 1997, both of my subjects agreed it had increased. When I asked what drugs in particular were more popular, the interviewed went along with the research and said meth, as well as opioids like heroin. In addition to this, both participants agreed drugs are more dangerous now more than ever. In particular, one participant said heroin was the most dangerous drug right now, while the other said heroin and synthetic marijuana. To conclude, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Overpopulation Of Pets According to webmd.com, 46% of people that took a survey claim that they are dog people. They are obviously very popular pets, but we should all know that millions of dogs go into shelters every year and most of them must be put down due to not finding a home. This is caused by overpopulation of dogs from individuals meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of shelters. Puppies bought from breeders are not spayed or neutered and this leads to the reproduction of more puppies. The Animal Population Control article from the American Humane service states, pet overpopulation encompasses two factors. (1) allowing dogs to reproduce with little chance to find homes for the offspring and (2) pets being relinquished by owners who can no longer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Driving Under Influences Laws tougher because the rules are not enforced enough and are not doing their job. These people have gotten their licenses taken away and do not even follow the rules afterwards. This piece of information does not tell how many people are caught without their licenses but it is most likely true that there are many drivers who get away freely from any cops knowing they are driving without a license. The next point has to do with the leniency of the state s Driving Under Influences laws. More specifically, South Dakota s laws. South Dakota s DUI penalties include no minimum jail time or fine for a first or second offense, no administrative license suspension, and no ignition interlock requirement. It had the number one fatality rate for 1995 to 2013, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first point in of topic is the issues with repeat offenders. Repeat offenders are an issue because in the past, repeat DUI offenders might have been given minimal jail time or prohibition, along with their driver s license being suspended. Sometimes, the punishment could include a certain amount of community service. The NTSB, National Transportation Safety Board, has called for states to eliminate community service as a punishment, in part because it keeps prosecutions of offenders records and makes repeat offenses more likely. Treatment for alcohol abuse works in some but not all cases. It is certainly worth trying, but in many cases repeat offenders are not interested in being helped. They will go through a treatment program if it is required by law, but positive effects may be short lived. These facts about the repeat offenders not wanting to go through treatment programs and not being interested in being helped at all are a major key aspect of why we should have DUI laws that are more strict than they are today because if they do not want any help like treatment for alcohol abuse or go through a treatment program because then they are more likely to not help the community around them in any way. If they were interested in getting helped, there may be a lower risk of car crashes in that area. In the DUI laws were tougher there, they would probably not want to get in any more car crashes because if they did, they would have to pay a higher fee and even do more community work if those laws were implemented. If someone were to be caught driving under an influence, your license could be banned like mentioned before and also could have your car taken away temporarily. These things should teach a person a couple of lessons but if caught again, there could be more of a punishment than before. If someone were to receive a second DUI offense in ten years, ... • 11. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which the reader later finds out, created by a secret society, Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Areas that Could Be Improved and Avoided in Future Studies... In 2010 a study was published by Phyllis D. Morgan, Joshua Fogel, Indira D. Tyler, and John R. Jones titled Culturally Targeted Educational Intervention to Increase Colorectal Health Awareness among African Americans. This study will be examined following an objective critique of the research conducted and reported. This analysis will show areas that could be improved and avoided in future studies and reports. This study was conducted to increase colonoscopy screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) in African Americans as well as increase knowledge of CRC and decrease cancer fatalism. This study did clearly state the four study objectives based off of their literature review. The literature review showed several studies with increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors continued with the study by allowing a larger immediate intervention group and a dramatically smaller delayed control group than envisioned. The delayed control group was only 8% of the total participants in this study. The authors provided a concise explanation of the differences in the immediate intervention and the delayed control group. The data analysis stated they used descriptive statistics for the sample data obtained. The results as described by the author did have several possible unidentifiable errors particularly in the control group. The results were discussed with relation to their objectives and the literature review however the analysis was highly focused on the success of the study and only slightly addressed the limitations of such a small control group in proportion to the immediate intervention group. The authors went in depth on the ethical consideration and justification for continuing with the study with the uneven participant groups. The conclusion of the study demonstrated the authors confidence in the cultural targeting of education for CRC and the resulting increase in colonoscopy in African Americans. This study was conducted in a reasonable manner and the limitations were clearly outlined by the author. However the results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis Of The Article The Self Of The Age Of... Writing 2 Yijia Chen In the article, The self in the age of Information, Kenneth Gergen argues that under the information era, technology leads people to lose the self and reflect this lost on the writing. Discussing the same period, Jeremy Rifkin in the chapter A Postmodern Stage showed a more positive perspective about the change. To support his argument, Gergen elaborates damages in the community and institution that nurtured independent self, the direct erosion to solitary self. In the pre modern world, people due to the lack of communication and transportation tools, have fewer opportunities to get in touch with various people outside. Therefore, people form consistent relationships with others, which derive a strong sense of being somebody everyone is familiar with. However, the advances in communication enable people to move household often and be in contact with a wider range of friends leading to average weakening bonds with more and fast changing friends. As a result of the decrease in deep relationships, in Gergen s notion, people receive less sense of identification. Moreover, the multi voices raised today and the suspicions over speakers motivations confuse people from faith to distrust. • 14. Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third Essays Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third In the play Richard III , Richard s trickery and manipulation ultimately leads to his downfall. His goals are based on what he can get from others and how they can help him, not on helping himself. This paper shows how Richard uses his skills of trickery and manipulation to not only move up on the hierarchy, but to actually get elected king. He uses his trickery to get Anne his wife to help move up his position on the hierarchy; he uses his trickery to get elected and to get his men to fight for him and not for the better of the country. Throughout the play Richard uses his trickery to persuade people to see things his way. In his conversation with Anne, he makes her believe that her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making Anne believe him was easy due to his skills to trick and manipulate others into thinking his way. During the whole play Richard s evil ways are easy to see for the reader, but for other characters in the play it was not so easy. He tricked and persuaded them to elect him king without even mentioning it. When there was no one else before him on the hierarchy he had them believe he was a holy man that was not suitable for the throne. This was all a disguise for them to just hand over the throne and practically beg him to be king. This is best shown in the conversation between Richard, Buckingham, Catesby, Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and citizens when Richard tells them Alas, why would you heap this care on me? / I am unfit for state and majesty. / I do beseech you take it not amiss, / I cannot nor I will not yield to you. (Act III, Scene vii p.145) Here Richard is using reverse psychology to make them think he was such a humble man. When actually he is a power hungry and very conceited man; he only does things when the outcome benefits him. He doesn t care about others, he represents everything a king should go against: greed, manipulation, and gaining power. In Richard s last battle he makes his men believe Richmond and Richmond s men are bad by tricking them. His men do not follow him because they trust him, but rather, they follow him because they are manipulated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Jazz Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement Jazz and Civil Rights : Hand In Hand Jazz contributed to the civil rights movement by allowing people to listen to African American opinions through musical beats and lyrics. Giving the world a new wide spectrum from what they were listening to before. The current definition of jazz is American music developed from ragtime and blues. In some ways blues and jazz go hand in hand. These types of music emerged in the Deep American South around the end of the 19th century, spread north and formed various sub genres. As much change as the world has been through there are still numerous social problems that still exist in society today. Amongst those numerous social problems, sexual orientation and inequality stand out to me. Research from biology, psychology, and sociology is where our understanding of sexual orientation comes from. There are two hypothetical theories researchers have discovered examining the biological basis toward sexual orientation. One concept is the neurohormonal theory, biologist contend that homosexuality is caused by abnormal sex hormone levels in utero. The alternative theory is based on behavioral genetics, determining the source and magnitude of genetic impact on sexual orientation. This theory suggested the concept that gay men were genetically female. Later this theory was proven to be false. Homosexuality was considered as a pathology or mental illness. Not every psychologists agreed with that perspective. A researcher by the name of Havelock Ellis stated that homosexuality was congenital and for that reason it could not be considered as a disease. Sigmund Freud another theorist had the concept that everyone is born bisexual and that either homosexuality or heterosexuality is developed through social and personal experience. They started with a simple concept of the previous existing obligations and evolved through the cases to the concept of the façade. The problem of this way in which the court has evolved, is that the concept of the façade is not clear enough. Even though it has been developed in some cases, a clear concept or definition of what the court means by façade has not been made. The definitions that have been made are pure inductions that the academics like Kershaw make of the cases. The other main event in which the court gives place to lift the corporate veil is in the case of the existence of a single economic unit. In the article Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? , author Isabel Fattal details sociolinguist Calvin Gidney s studies by using his research to explain how repeatedly associating foreign accents with villains could have a negative effect on how children think and engage with diversity in the United States. The author s usage of evidence was thorough. In agreeance to the author, I do believe that media can affect the way that a child perceives diversity because children are credulous, which makes them easier to deceive. Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? is about Calvin Gidney s observations and analysis of language patterns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article only presented one side of the argument without acknowledging the other side, which leaves loopholes and leeway in their argument to speculate other reasons for why foreign accents are given to villains. Nevertheless, the article contained an ample amount of details and evidence. The author argues that this correlation can render a negative connotation to kids as they start to comprehend diversity. To be diverse means to be different. Children can sometimes use the character s accent to distinguish who the protagonist and antagonist are. Notably, the article reads, The common denominator in all of these vague foreign accents is the binary distinction of like us versus not like us. Villainy is marked just by sounding different (Fattal). I agree with the author s statement. Just by looking at two different people you can already notice the distinctive features between them. One conversation with a stranger could also determine if they are like me or not based on the way that they talk. However, as children grow they start to learn right from wrong, and they might think a person that does not talk like them is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, the Kardashians are notorious for posting daily glamorous and often lingerie clad images on Instagram that attract several million likes. But it s not just images of attractive celebrities that flood social media. Friends, acquaintances and strangers post images of themselves too, often editing them to disguise face blemishes, make cheeks rosier or to make their nose look smaller. When people look at these attractive images on social media, research shows they often compare their own appearance to those images and think they re less attractive than the images they see.We know these comparisons can make women unhappy with their appearance and put them in a bad mood. The Themes of Love and Loss in My Last Duchess, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, When we Two Parted, and Villegiature Works Cited Missing The poems, My Last Duchess , La Belle Dame Sans Merci and When We Two Parted and Villegiature by Robert Browning (1812 1889), John Keats (1795 1821), Lord Byron (1788 1824) and Edith Nesbit (1858 1924) respectively, have all been written in the nineteenth century. All these poems deal with the different aspects of love and the different attitudes of lovers towards their beloved, after parting or during times away from each other (Villegiature). Browning s My Last Duchess shows the possessive and dominant type of love where the Duke, who is speaking throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, what people in such relationships fail to realise until it is too late is the downside to this sort of relationship, not only for the dominated , but also for the dominating , as such an obsession with ruling over another eventually led the Duke to murder his wife. Though most people would not have taken as drastic a measure as the Duke, the poet probably uses such a negatively powerful result to emphasize on the harmful aspects of such a relationship. Also, this poem follows a strict rhyme scheme and has a conversational rhythm. It is written in iambic pentameter, which probably conveys the conflict within himself between what he says and what he really is a murderer! Furthermore, this sort of communion does not hold many positive aspects for the partner who lets himself/herself be controlled by the other either. In La Belle Dame Sans Merci , the knight says, And that is why I sojourn here/Alone and palely loitering/Though the sedge has wither d from the lake/And no birds sing , the sad condition of the knight here emphasizes on the downbeat to this type of love and the sad, lonely image (from winter) is used to create a greater impact on the reader. • 40. The Letter From A Birmingham Jail As an African American growing up in a multi generational household I appreciated the stories my grandparents told me about the Civil Rights Movement through their eyes. They acknowledged that Martin Luther King was not just for people of color; but all human beings who were being treated unjustly. He is known for many speeches, but The Letter from a Birmingham Jail written in 1963 was phenomenal in my opinion; this letter, written in response to A Call for Unity, (Carpenter et. el, 1963 ) an article written by eight, white, Alabama clergymen, was to serve as a response to those who believed that King acted inappropriately for coming to Birmingham, Alabama, as an outsider, for creating immense tension with his demonstrations, and for the inopportune timing of his marches. Even though, the clergymen agreed that social injustice did exist, it was their opinion that these types of matter should be handled in the judicial system rather than in the streets. It astonishes me how an individual can be so articulate and use various references to state his case. Furthermore, when he does give the reader reference; whether it s religious base or past history from different era; he uses the material to correlate with his current predicament. This is an era were no internet was available. While I was reading the letter I kept wondering if he was a social worker in his pass life because he truly displays the six principles of the National Association of Social Work (NASW, 2008 p. 2) ...
